| 1:3 |
Beloved beingalthough I was very eager to write to you ofabout our common salvation I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith whichthat was once for all delivered to the saints |
| 1:4 |
For admissioncertain haspeople beenhave secretlycrept gainedin byunnoticed some who long ago were designated for this condemnation ungodly personspeople who pervert the grace of our God into licentiousnesssensuality and deny our only Master and Lord Jesus Christ |
| 1:5 |
Now I desirewant to remind you thoughalthough you were once forfully allknew fullyit informed that heJesus who saved a people out of the land of Egypt afterward destroyed those who did not believe |
| 1:6 |
And the angels thatwho did not keepstay within their own position of authority but left their proper dwelling havehe beenhas kept by him in eternal chains inunder thegloomy netherdarkness gloom until the judgment of the great day; — |
| 1:7 |
just as Sodom and Gomor′rahGomorrah and the surrounding cities which likewise actedindulged immorallyin sexual immorality and indulgedpursued in unnatural lustdesire serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire |
| 1:8 |
Yet in like manner these menpeople inalso relying on their dreamingsdreams defile the flesh reject authority and revileblaspheme the glorious ones |
| 1:9 |
But when the archangel Michael contending with the devil disputedwas disputing about the body of Moses he did not presume to pronounce a revilingblasphemous judgment upon him but said The Lord rebuke you |
| 1:10 |
But these menpeople revileblaspheme whateverall that they do not understand and they are destroyed by thoseall things that they knowlike byunreasoning instinct as irrational animals dounderstand they are destroyed instinctively |
| 1:11 |
Woe to them For they walkwalked in the way of Cain and abandonabandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaams error and perishperished in Korahs rebellion |
| 1:12 |
These are blemisheshidden onreefs at your love feasts as they boldlyfeast carousewith togetheryou lookingwithout afterfear shepherds feeding themselves; waterless clouds carriedswept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn twice dead uprooted; |
| 1:13 |
wild waves of the sea casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars for whom the nether gloom of utter darkness has been reserved for everforever |
| 1:14 |
It was ofalso about these also that Enoch in the seventh generation from Adam prophesied saying Behold the Lord camecomes with ten thousands of his holy myriads ones |
| 1:15 |
to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness whichthat they have committed in such an ungodly way and of all the harsh things whichthat ungodly sinners have spoken against him |
| 1:16 |
These are grumblers malcontents following their own passionssinful desires; they are loud mouthed boasters flatteringshowing peoplefavoritism to gain advantage |
| 1:17 |
But you must remember beloved the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; |
| 1:18 |
theyThey said to you In the last time there will be scoffers following their own ungodly passions |
| 1:19 |
It is these who setcause up divisions worldly people devoid of the Spirit |
| 1:20 |
But you beloved buildbuilding yourselves up onin your most holy faith; prayand praying in the Holy Spirit; |
| 1:21 |
keep yourselves in the love of God; waitwaiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ untothat leads to eternal life |
| 1:22 |
And convincehave somemercy on those who doubt; |
| 1:23 |
save someothers by snatching them out of the fire; onto someothers haveshow mercy with fear hating even the garment spottedstained by the flesh |
| 1:24 |
Now to him who is able to keep you from fallingstumbling and to present you withoutblameless blemish before the presence of his glory with rejoicinggreat joy |
| 1:25 |
to the only God our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord be glory majesty dominion and authority before all time and now and forforever ever Amen |
