1:25 And they took in their hands some of the fruit of the land and brought it down to us and brought us word again and said It is a good land whichthat the Lord our God givesis giving us
1:26 Yet you would not go up but rebelled against the command of the Lord your God;
1:27 andAnd you murmured in your tents and said Because the Lord hated us he has brought us forth out of the land of Egypt to give us into the hand of the Amorites to destroy us
1:28 WhitherWhere are we going up Our brethrenbrothers have made our hearts melt saying The people are greater and taller than we; theThe cities are great and fortified up to heaven; andAnd moreoverbesides we have seen the sons of the Anakim there
1:31 and in the wilderness where you have seen how the Lord your God borecarried you as a man bearscarries his son in all the way that you went until you came to this place
1:33 who went before you in the way to seek you out a place to pitch your tents in fire by night and in the cloud by day to show you by what way you should go and in the cloud by day
1:35 Not one of these men of this evil generation shall see the good land whichthat I swore to give to your fathers

1:38 Joshua the son of Nun who stands before you he shall enter; encourageEncourage him for he shall cause Israel to inherit it
1:39 MoreoverAnd as for your little ones who you said would become a prey and your children who thistoday day have no knowledge of good or evil they shall go in there andAnd to them I will give it and they shall possess it
1:41 Then you answered me We have sinned against the Lord; weWe ourselves will go up and fight just as the Lord our God commanded us And every manone of you girdedfastened on his weapons of war and thought it easy to go up into the hill country
1:42 And the Lord said to me Say to them Do not go up or fight for I am not in theyour midst of you; lest you be defeated before your enemies

2:3 You have been goingtraveling aboutaround this mountain country long enough; turnTurn northward
2:4 Andand command the people You are about to pass through the territory of your brethrenbrothers the sonspeople of Esau who live in Se′irSeir; and they will be afraid of you So takebe goodvery heed; careful
2:5 doDo not contend with them; for I will not give you any of their land no not so much as for the sole of the foot to tread on because I have given Mount Se′irSeir to Esau as a possession
2:6 You shall purchase food from them forwith money that you may eat; and you shall also buy water offrom them forwith money that you may drink
2:7 For the Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands; heHe knows your going through this great wilderness; theseThese forty years the Lord your God has been with you; youYou have lacked nothing
2:8 So we went on away from our brethrenbrothers the sonspeople of Esau who live in Se′irSeir away from the Arabah road from Elath and E′zionEzion ge′bergeber And we turned and went in the direction of the wilderness of Moab
2:9 And the Lord said to me Do not harass Moab or contend with them in battle for I will not give you any of their land for a possession because I have given Ar to the sonspeople of Lot for a possession
2:10 The Emim formerly lived there a people great and many and tall as the Anakim;
2:11 likeLike the Anakim they are also knowncounted as Reph′aimRephaim but the Moabites call them Emim
2:12 The Horites also lived in Se′irSeir formerly but the sonspeople of Esau dispossessed them and destroyed them from before them and settled in their stead;place as Israel did to the land of their possession which the Lord gave to them

2:20 ThatIt is also iscounted known as a land of Reph′aim;Rephaim Reph′aimRephaim formerly lived there —but the Ammonites call them Zamzum′mim Zamzummim—
2:21 a people great and many and tall as the Anakim; but the Lord destroyed them before them;the Ammonites and they dispossessed them and settled in their stead; place
2:22 as he did for the sonspeople of Esau who live in Se′irSeir when he destroyed the Horites before them and they dispossessed them and settled in their steadplace even to this day
2:23 As for the Avvim who lived in villages as far as Gaza the Caph′torimCaphtorim who came from Caphtor destroyed them and settled in their stead place
2:24 Rise up takeset out on your journey and go over the valleyValley of the Arnon; beholdBehold I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite king of Heshbon and his land; beginBegin to take possession and contend with him in battle
2:25 This day I will begin to put the dread and fear of you uponon the peoples thatwho are under the whole heaven who shall hear the report of you and shall tremble and be in anguish because of you
2:26 So I sent messengers from the wilderness of Ked′emothKedemoth to Sihon the king of Heshbon with words of peace saying

2:28 You shall sell me food for money that I may eat and give me water for money that I may drink; onlyOnly let me pass through on foot
2:29 as the sons of Esau who live in Se′irSeir and the Moabites who live in Ar did for me until I go over the Jordan into the land whichthat the Lord our God givesis giving to us

3:3 So the Lord our God gave into our hand Og also the king of Bashan and all his people; and we smotestruck him down until he had no survivor was left to him
3:4 And we took all his cities at that time—there was not a city whichthat we did not take from them—sixty cities the whole region of Argob the kingdom of Og in Bashan

3:25 LetPlease let me go over I pray and see the good land beyond the Jordan that goodlygood hill country and Lebanon

3:27 Go up to the top of Pisgah and lift up your eyes westward and northward and southward and eastward and beholdlook at it with your eyes; for you shall not go over this Jordan
3:28 But charge Joshua and encourage and strengthen him; for he shall go over at the head of this people and he shall put them in possession of the land whichthat you shall see

4:8 And what great nation is there that has statutes and ordinancesrules so righteous as all this law whichthat I set before you this daytoday
4:9 Only take heedcare and keep your soul diligently lest you forget the things whichthat your eyes have seen and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life; makeMake them known to your children and your childrens children—
4:10 how on the day that you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb the Lord said to me Gather the people to me that I may let them hear my words so that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live uponon the earth and that they may teach their children so
4:12 Then the Lord spoke to you out of the midst of the fire; youYou heard the sound of words but saw no form; there was only a voice

5:23 And whenas soon as you heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness while the mountain was burning with fire you came near to me all the heads of your tribes and your elders;
5:24 andAnd you said Behold the Lord our God has shown us his glory and greatness and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire; This day we have this day seen God speak with man and man still live
5:25 Now therefore why should we die For this great fire will consume us; ifIf we hear the voice of the Lord our God any more we shall die

7:16 And you shall destroyconsume all the peoples that the Lord your God will give over to you yourYour eye shall not pity them; neither shall you serve their gods for that would be a snare to you
7:17 If you say in your heart These nations are greater than I; howHow can I dispossess them
7:19 the great trials whichthat your eyes saw the signs the wonders the mighty hand and the outstretched arm by which the Lord your God brought you out; soSo will the Lord your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid
7:21 You shall not be in dread of them; for the Lord your God is in theyour midst of you a great and terribleawesome God
7:22 The Lord your God will clear away these nations before you little by little; youYou may not make an end of them at once lest the wild beasts grow too numerous for you
7:24 And he will give their kings into your hand and you shall make their name perish from under heaven; notNo aone man shall be able to stand against you until you have destroyed them
7:25 The gravencarved images of their gods you shall burn with fire; youYou shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them or take it for yourselves lest you be ensnared by it; for it is an abomination to the Lord your God
7:26 And you shall not bring an abominable thing into your house and become accurseddevoted to destruction like it; youYou shall utterly detest and abhor it; for it is andevoted accursedto thingdestruction
8:1 AllThe thewhole commandment whichthat I command you thistoday day you shall be careful to do that you may live and multiply and go in and possess the land whichthat the Lord swore to give to your fathers
8:2 And you shall remember all the whole way whichthat the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness that he might humble you testing you to know what was in your heart whether you would keep his commandments or not
8:3 And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know; that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone but that man lives by everythingevery word that proceedscomes outfrom of the mouth of the Lord
8:4 Your clothing did not wear out uponon you and your foot did not swell these forty years
8:7 For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land a land of brooks of water of fountains and springs flowing forthout in the valleys and hills
8:11 Take heedcare lest you forget the Lord your God by not keeping his commandments and his ordinancesrules and his statutes which I command you this day: today
8:12 lest when you have eaten and are full and have built goodlygood houses and live in them
8:14 then your heart be lifted up and you forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt out of the house of bondage slavery
8:15 who led you through the great and terribleterrifying wilderness with its fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground where there was no water who brought you water out of the flinty rock
8:16 who fed you in the wilderness with manna whichthat your fathers did not know that he might humble you and test you to do you good in the end
8:18 You shall remember the Lord your God for it is he who gives you power to get wealth; that he may confirm his covenant whichthat he swore to your fathers as atit is this day
8:19 And if you forget the Lord your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them I solemnly warn you thistoday day that you shall surely perish
9:1 Hear O Israel;: you are to passcross over the Jordan thistoday day to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselvesyou cities great and fortified up to heaven
9:3 Know therefore thistoday day that he who goes over before you as a devouringconsuming fire is the Lord your God; heHe will destroy them and subdue them before you; soSo you shall drive them out and make them perish quickly as the Lord has promised you
9:4 Do not say in your heart after the Lord your God has thrust them out before you It is because of my righteousness that the Lord has brought me in to possess this land; whereas it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is driving them out before you
9:5 Not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart are you going in to possess their land; but because of the wickedness of these nations the Lord your God is driving them out from before you and that he may confirm the word whichthat the Lord swore to your fathers to Abraham to Isaac and to Jacob
9:6 Know therefore that the Lord your God is not giving you this good land to possess because of your righteousness; for you are a stubborn people
9:7 Remember and do not forget how you provoked the Lord your God to wrath in the wilderness; fromFrom the day you came out of the land of Egypt until you came to this place you have been rebellious against the Lord
9:9 When I went up the mountain to receive the tablestablets of stone the tablestablets of the covenant whichthat the Lord made with you I remained on the mountain forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water
9:10 And the Lord gave me the two tablestablets of stone written with the finger of God; and on them were all the words whichthat the Lord had spoken with you on the mountain out of the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly
9:11 And at the end of forty days and forty nights the Lord gave me the two tablestablets of stone the tablestablets of the covenant
9:12 Then the Lord said to me Arise go down quickly from here; for your people whom you have brought from Egypt have acted corruptly; theyThey have turned aside quickly out of the way whichthat I commanded them; they have made themselves a moltenmetal image
9:13 Furthermore the Lord said to me I have seen this people and behold it is a stubborn people;
9:14 letLet me alone that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under heaven; andAnd I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they
9:15 So I turned and came down from the mountain and the mountain was burning with fire; andAnd the two tablestablets of the covenant were in my two hands
9:16 And I looked and behold you had sinned against the Lord your God; youYou had made yourselves a moltengolden calf; youYou had turned aside quickly from the way whichthat the Lord had commanded you
9:17 So I took hold of the two tablestablets and castthrew them out of my two hands and broke them before your eyes
9:18 Then I lay prostrate before the Lord as before forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water because of all the sin whichthat you had committed in doing what was evil in the sight of the Lord to provoke him to anger
9:19 For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure whichthat the Lord bore against you so that he was ready to destroy you But the Lord hearkenedlistened to me that time also
9:20 And the Lord was so angry with Aaron that he was ready to destroy him; andAnd I prayed for Aaron also at the same time
9:21 Then I took the sinful thing the calf whichthat you had made and burned it with fire and crushed it grinding it very small until it was as fine as dust; andAnd I threw the dust of it into the brook that descendedran outdown offrom the mountain
9:22 At Tab′erahTaberah also and at Massah and at Kib′rothKibroth hatta′avahhattaavah you provoked the Lord to wrath
9:23 And when the Lord sent you from Ka′deshKadesh bar′neabarnea saying Go up and take possession of the land whichthat I have given you then you rebelled against the commandment of the Lord your God and did not believe him or obey his voice
9:26 And I prayed to the Lord O Lord God destroydo not thydestroy your people and thyyour heritage whom thouyou hasthave redeemed through thyyour greatness whom thouyou hasthave brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand
9:27 Remember thyyour servants Abraham Isaac and Jacob; doDo not regard the stubbornness of this people or their wickedness or their sin
9:28 lest the land from which thouyou didstbrought bring us say Because the Lord was not able to bring them into the land whichthat he promised them and because he hated them he has brought them out to slayput them to death in the wilderness
9:29 For they are thyyour people and thyyour heritage whom thouyou didstbrought bring out by thyyour great power and by thyyour outstretched arm
10:1 At that time the Lord said to me HewCut for yourself two tablestablets of stone like the first and come up to me on the mountain and make an ark of wood
10:2 And I will write on the tablestablets the words that were on the first tablestablets whichthat you broke and you shall put them in the ark
10:3 So I made an ark of acacia wood and hewedcut two tablestablets of stone like the first and went up the mountain with the two tablestablets in my hand
10:4 And he wrote on the tablestablets asin at the firstsame writing as before the tenTen commandmentsCommandments whichthat the Lord had spoken to you on the mountain out of the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly; andAnd the Lord gave them to me
10:5 Then I turned and came down from the mountain and put the tablestablets in the ark whichthat I had made; andAnd there they are as the Lord commanded me
10:6 The people of Israel journeyed from BeBeeroth er′oth Bene ja′akanjaakan to Mose′rahMoserah There Aaron died and there he was buried; andAnd his son Elea′zarEleazar ministered as priest in his stead place
10:7 From there they journeyed to Gud′godahGudgodah and from Gud′godahGudgodah to Jot′bathahJotbathah a land with brooks of water
10:9 Therefore Levi has no portion or inheritance with his brothers; theThe Lord is his inheritance as the Lord your God said to him
10:10 I myself stayed on the mountain as at the first time forty days and forty nights and the Lord hearkenedlistened to me that time also; theThe Lord was unwilling to destroy you
10:11 And the Lord said to me Arise go on your journey at the head of the people so that they may go in and possess the land which I swore to their fathers to give them
10:13 and to keep the commandments and statutes of the Lord which I commandam commanding you thistoday day for your good
10:14 Behold to the Lord your God belong heaven and the heaven of heavens the earth with all that is in it;
10:15 yetYet the Lord set his heart in love uponon your fathers and chose their descendantsoffspring after them you above all peoples as atyou are this day
10:17 For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords the great the mighty and the terribleawesome God who is not partial and takes no bribe
10:19 Love the sojourner therefore; for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt
10:20 You shall fear the Lord your God; youYou shall serve him and cleavehold fast to him and by his name you shall swear
10:21 He is your praise; heHe is your God who has done for you these great and terribleterrifying things whichthat your eyes have seen
10:22 Your fathers went down to Egypt seventy persons; and now the Lord your God has made you as numerous as the stars of heaven for multitude
11:1 You shall therefore love the Lord your God and keep his charge his statutes his ordinancesrules and his commandments always
11:2 And consider thistoday day since I am not speaking to your children who have not known or seen it consider the discipline of the Lord your God his greatness his mighty hand and his outstretched arm
11:3 his signs and his deeds whichthat he did in Egypt to Pharaoh the king of Egypt and to all his land;
11:4 and what he did to the army of Egypt to their horses and to their chariots; how he made the water of the Red Sea overflowflow over them as they pursued after you and how the Lord has destroyed them to this day;
11:5 and what he did to you in the wilderness until you came to this place;
11:6 and what he did to Dathan and Abi′ramAbiram the sons of Eli′abEliab son of Reuben; how the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up with their households their tents and every living thing that followed them in the midst of all Israel;
11:7 forFor your eyes have seen all the great work of the Lord whichthat he did
11:8 You shall therefore keep all the whole commandment whichthat I command you thistoday day that you may be strong and go in and take possession of the land whichthat you are going over to possess
11:9 and that you may live long in the land whichthat the Lord swore to your fathers to give to them and to their descendantsoffspring a land flowing with milk and honey
11:10 For the land whichthat you are entering to take possession of it is not like the land of Egypt from which you have come where you sowed your seed and wateredirrigated it with your feet like a garden of vegetables;
11:11 butBut the land whichthat you are going over to possess is a land of hills and valleys which drinks water by the rain from heaven
11:12 a land whichthat the Lord your God cares for; theThe eyes of the Lord your God are always upon it from the beginning of the year to the end of the year
11:13 And if you will indeed obey my commandments whichthat I command you thistoday day to love the Lord your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul
11:15 And he will give grass in your fields for your cattlelivestock and you shall eat and be full
11:16 Take heedcare lest your heart be deceived and you turn aside and serve other gods and worship them ;
11:17 andthen the anger of the Lord will be kindled against you and he will shut up the heavens so that there will be no rain and the land will yield no fruit and you will perish quickly off the good land whichthat the Lord givesis giving you
11:18 You shall therefore lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul; and you shall bind them as a sign uponon your hand and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes
11:19 AndYou you shall teach them to your children talking of them when you are sitting in your house and when you are walking by the way and when you lie down and when you rise
11:20 AndYou you shall write them uponon the doorposts of your house and uponon your gates
11:21 that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land whichthat the Lord swore to your fathers to give them as long as the heavens are above the earth
11:22 For if you will be careful to do all this commandment whichthat I command you to do loving the Lord your God walking in all his ways and cleavingholding fast to him
11:23 then the Lord will drive out all these nations before you and you will dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselves you
11:24 Every place on which the sole of your foot treads shall be yours; yourYour territory shall be from the wilderness andto the Lebanon and from the River the river Euphra′tesEuphrates to the western sea
11:25 No manone shall be able to stand against you; theThe Lord your God will lay the fear of you and the dread of you uponon all the land that you shall tread as he promised you
11:26 BeholdSee I setam setting before you thistoday day a blessing and a curse:
11:27 the blessing if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you this day today
11:28 and the curse if you do not obey the commandments of the Lord your God but turn aside from the way whichthat I commandam commanding you thistoday day to go after other gods whichthat you have not known
11:29 And when the Lord your God brings you into the land whichthat you are entering to take possession of it you shall set the blessing on Mount Ger′izimGerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal
11:30 Are they not beyond the Jordan west of the road toward the going down of the sun in the land of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah overopposite against Gilgal beside the oak of Moreh
11:31 For you are to passcross over the Jordan to go in to take possession of the land whichthat the Lord your God givesis giving you; andAnd when you possess it and live in it
11:32 you shall be careful to do all the statutes and the ordinancesrules whichthat I setam setting before you this daytoday
12:1 These are the statutes and ordinancesrules whichthat you shall be careful to do in the land whichthat the Lord the God of your fathers has given you to possess all the days that you live uponon the earth

12:3 youYou shall tear down their altars and dash in pieces their pillars and burn their Ashe′rimAsherim with fire; youYou shall hewchop down the gravencarved images of their gods and destroy their name out of that place
12:4 You shall not doworship so to the Lord your God in that way
12:5 But you shall seek the place whichthat the Lord your God will choose out of all your tribes to put his name and make his habitation there; thitherThere you shall go
12:6 and thitherthere you shall bring your burnt offerings and your sacrifices your tithes and the offeringcontribution that you present your votivevow offerings your freewill offerings and the firstlingsfirstborn of your herd and of your flock;

12:8 You shall not do according to all that we are doing here thistoday dayeveryone every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes;
12:9 for you have not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance whichthat the Lord your God givesis giving you
12:10 But when you go over the Jordan and live in the land whichthat the Lord your God givesis giving you to inherit and when he gives you rest from all your enemies roundaround about so that you live in safety
