| 1:1 |
Paul an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God according to the promise of the life whichthat is in Christ Jesus |
| 1:3 |
I thank God whom I serve as did my ancestors with a clear conscience as did my fathers when I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day |
| 1:4 |
As I remember your tears I long night and day to see you that I may be filled with joy |
| 1:5 |
I am reminded of your sincere faith a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lo′isLois and your mother Eunice and now I am sure dwells in you as well |
| 1:6 |
HenceFor this reason I remind you to rekindlefan into flame the gift of God thatwhich is withinin you through the laying on of my hands; |
| 1:7 |
for God didgave not give us a spirit not of timidityfear but a spirit of power and love and self control |
| 1:8 |
DoTherefore do not be ashamed then of testifyingthe totestimony about our Lord nor of me his prisoner but share in suffering for the gospel inby the power of God |
| 1:9 |
who saved us and called us withto a holy calling not inbecause virtue of our works but inbecause virtue of his own purpose and the grace which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages ago began |
| 1:10 |
and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel |
| 1:11 |
Forfor thiswhich gospel I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher |
| 1:12 |
andwhich thereforeis why I suffer as I do But I am not ashamed for I know whom I have believed and I am sureconvinced that he is able to guard until that Dayday what has been entrusted to me |
| 1:13 |
Follow the pattern of the sound words whichthat you have heard from me in the faith and love whichthat are in Christ Jesus; |
| 1:14 |
guardBy the truthHoly thatSpirit haswho beendwells entrustedwithin tous youguard by the Holygood Spiritdeposit whoentrusted dwellsto within usyou |
| 1:15 |
You are aware that all who are in Asia turned away from me and among themwhom Phy′gelusare Phygelus and Hermog′enes Hermogenes |
| 1:16 |
May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiph′orusOnesiphorus for he often refreshed me; heand was not ashamed of my chains |
| 1:17 |
but when he arrived in Rome he searched for me eagerlyearnestly and found me— |
| 1:18 |
may the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord on that Dayday—and you well know all the service he rendered at Ephesus |
| 2:1 |
You then my sonchild be strongstrengthened inby the grace that is in Christ Jesus |
| 2:2 |
and what you have heard from me beforein the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also |
| 2:4 |
No soldier on service gets entangled in civilian pursuits since his aim is to satisfyplease the one who enlisted him |
| 2:7 |
Think over what I say for the Lord will grantgive you understanding in everything |
| 2:8 |
Remember Jesus Christ risen from the dead descendedthe fromoffspring of David as preached in my gospel |
| 2:9 |
the gospel for which I am suffering andbound wearingwith fetterschains likeas a criminal But the word of God is not fettered bound |
| 2:10 |
Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with its eternal glory |
| 2:11 |
The saying is suretrustworthy for: If we have died with him we shallwill also live with him; |
| 2:12 |
if we endure we shallwill also reign with him; if we deny him he also will deny us; |
| 2:14 |
Remind them of thisthese things and charge them before theGod Lordnot to avoidquarrel disputing about words which does no good but only ruins the hearers |
| 2:15 |
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved a workmanworker who has no need to be ashamed rightly handling the word of truth |
| 2:16 |
AvoidBut suchavoid godlessirreverent chatterbabble for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness |
| 2:17 |
and their talk will eatspread its way like gangrene Among them are Hymenae′usHymenaeus and Phile′tus Philetus |
| 2:18 |
who have swerved from the truth bysaying holding that the resurrection ishas past already happened They are upsetting the faith of some |
| 2:19 |
But Gods firm foundation stands bearing this seal: The Lord knows those who are his and Let everyeveryone one who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity |
| 2:20 |
InNow in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and earthenwareclay and some for noblehonorable use some for ignoble dishonorable |
| 2:21 |
IfTherefore anyif oneanyone purifiescleanses himself from what is ignobledishonorable then he will be a vessel for noblehonorable use consecratedset andapart as holy useful to the master of the house ready for anyevery good work |
| 2:22 |
So shunflee youthful passions and aimpursue at righteousness faith love and peace along with those who call uponon the Lord from a pure heart |
| 2:23 |
Have nothing to do with stupidfoolish senselessignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels |

| 3:1 |

| 3:9 |
butBut they will not get very far for their folly will be plain to all as was that of those two men |
| 3:10 |
