Paul Silva′nusSilvanus and Timothy To the church of the Thessalo′niansThessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace |
| 1:2 |
We give thanks to God always for all of you all constantly mentioning you in our prayers |
| 1:4 |
For we know brethrenbrothers belovedloved by God that he has chosen you; |
| 1:5 |
forbecause our gospel came to you not only in word but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake |
| 1:6 |
And you became imitators of us and of the Lord for you received the word in much affliction with the joy inspiredof by the Holy Spirit; |
| 1:7 |
so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedo′niaMacedonia and in Acha′ia Achaia |
| 1:8 |
For not only has the word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedo′niaMacedonia and Acha′iaAchaia but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere so that we need not say anything |
| 1:9 |
For they themselves report concerning us whatthe akind welcomeof reception we had among you and how you turned to God from idols to serve athe living and true God |
| 2:1 |
For you yourselves know brethrenbrothers that our visitcoming to you was not in vain; |
| 2:2 |
butBut though we had already suffered and been shamefully treated at Philippi as you know we had courageboldness in our God to declare to you the gospel of God in the facemidst of greatmuch opposition conflict |
| 2:3 |
For our appeal does not spring from error or uncleannessimpurity noror isany itattempt madeto with guile; deceive |
| 2:4 |
but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel so we speak not to please menman but to please God who tests our hearts |
| 2:5 |
For we never usedcame eitherwith words of flattery as you know ornor with a cloakpretext for greed as —God is witness; |
| 2:6 |
norNor did we seek glory from menpeople whether from you or from others though we mightcould have made demands as apostles of Christ |
| 2:7 |
But we were gentle among you like a nursenursing mother taking care of her own children |
| 2:9 |
For you remember brothers our labor and toil: brethren; we worked night and day that we might not be a burden to any of you while we preachedproclaimed to you the gospel of God |
| 2:10 |
You are witnesses and God also how holy and righteous and blameless was our behaviorconduct totoward you believers; |
| 2:11 |
forFor you know how like a father with his children we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you |
| 2:12 |
we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you to leadwalk in a lifemanner worthy of God who calls you into his own kingdom and glory |
| 2:14 |
For you brethrenbrothers became imitators of the churches of God in Christ Jesus whichthat are in Judea; forFor you suffered the same things from your own countrymen as they did from the Jews |
| 2:15 |
who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets and drove us out and displease God and oppose all men mankind |
| 2:16 |
by hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles that they maymight be saved—so as always to fill up the measure of their sins But Gods wrath has come upon them at last |
| 2:17 |
But since we were berefttorn ofaway from you brethrenbrothers for a short time in person not in heart we endeavored the more eagerly and with great desire to see you face to face; |
| 3:2 |
and we sent Timothy our brother and Gods servantcoworker in the gospel of Christ to establish and exhort you in your faith and to exhort you |
| 3:3 |
that no one be moved by these afflictions YouFor you yourselves know that thiswe isare todestined befor our lot this |
| 3:4 |
For when we were with you we toldkept telling you beforehand that we were to suffer affliction; just as it has come to pass and just as you know |
| 3:5 |
For this reason when I could bear it no longer I sent thatto Ilearn mightabout know your faith for fear that somehow the tempter had tempted you and that our labor would be in vain |
| 3:7 |
for this reason brethrenbrothers in all our distress and affliction we have been comforted about you through your faith; |
| 3:8 |
forFor now we live if you standare standing fast in the Lord |
| 3:9 |
For what thanksgiving can we renderreturn to God for you for all the joy whichthat we feel for your sake before our God |
| 3:10 |
prayingas we pray most earnestly night and day that we may see you face to face and supply what is lacking in your faith |
| 3:11 |
Now may our God and Father himself and our Lord Jesus direct our way to you; |
| 3:12 |
and may the Lord make you increase and abound in love tofor one another and tofor all men as we do tofor you |
| 3:13 |
so that he may establish your hearts unblamableblameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints |
| 4:1 |
Finally brethrenthen brothers we beseechask and exhorturge you in the Lord Jesus that as you learnedreceived from us how you ought to livewalk and to please God just as you are doing that you do so more and more |
| 4:3 |
For this is the will of God your sanctification: that you abstain from unchastitysexual immorality; |
| 4:4 |
that each one of you know how to takecontrol ahis wifeown forbody himself in holiness and honor |
| 4:5 |
not in the passion of lust like heathenthe Gentiles who do not know God; |
| 4:6 |
that no manone transgress and wrong his brother in this matter because the Lord is an avenger in all these things as we told you beforehand and solemnly forewarnedwarned you |
| 4:7 |
For God has not called us for uncleannessimpurity but in holiness |
| 4:9 |
ButNow concerning brotherly love of the brethren you have no need tofor haveanyone anyto one write to you for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another; |
| 4:10 |
andfor that indeed is what you doare lovedoing to all the brethrenbrothers throughout Macedo′niaMacedonia But we exhorturge you brethrenbrothers to do sothis more and more |
| 4:11 |
and to aspire to live quietly and to mind your own affairs and to work with your hands as we chargedinstructed you; |
| 4:12 |
so that you may commandwalk theproperly respectbefore of outsiders and be dependent on nobodyno one |
| 4:13 |
But we woulddo not havewant you ignorantto brethrenbe concerninguninformed brothers about those who are asleep that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope |
| 4:15 |
For this we declare to you by thea word offrom the Lord that we who are alive who are left until the coming of the Lord shallwill not precede those who have fallen asleep |
| 4:16 |
For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command with the archangelsvoice callof an archangel and with the sound of the trumpet of God And the dead in Christ will rise first; |
| 4:17 |
thenThen we who are alive who are left shallwill be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and so we shallwill always be with the Lord |
| 4:18 |
Therefore comfortencourage one another with these words |
| 5:1 |
ButNow asconcerning to the times and the seasons brethrenbrothers you have no need to have anything written to you |
| 5:2 |
For you yourselves knoware wellfully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night |
| 5:3 |
WhenWhile people sayare saying There is peace and security then sudden destruction will come upon them as travaillabor comespains come upon a pregnant woman with child and therethey will benot no escape |
| 5:4 |
But you are not in darkness brethrenbrothers for that day to surprise you like a thief |
| 5:5 |
For you are all sonschildren of light andchildren sons of the day; weWe are not of the night or of the darkness |
| 5:8 |
But since we belong to the day let us be sober andhaving put on the breastplate of faith and love and for a helmet the hope of salvation |
| 5:10 |
who died for us so that whether we wakeare awake or sleepasleep we might live with him |
| 5:12 |
ButWe weask beseech you brethrenbrothers to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you |
| 5:14 |
And we exhorturge you brethrenbrothers admonish the idlersidle encourage the fainthearted help the weak be patient with them all |
| 5:15 |
See that noneno ofone you repays anyone evil for evil but always seek to do good to one another and to all everyone |
| 5:17 |
pray constantlywithout ceasing |
| 5:20 |
doDo not despise prophesying prophecies |
| 5:22 |
abstainAbstain from every form of evil |
| 5:23 |
MayNow may the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly;completely and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ |
| 5:24 |
He who calls you is faithful; and he will surely do it |
| 5:25 |
BrethrenBrothers pray for us |
| 5:26 |
Greet all the brethrenbrothers with a holy kiss |
| 5:27 |
I adjureput you byunder oath before the Lord thatto have this letter be read to all the brethrenbrothers |
