and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar and Perez the father of Hezron and Hezron the father of RamAram |
| 1:4 |
and RamAram the father of Ammin′adabAminadab and Ammin′adabAminadab the father of Nahshon and Nahshon the father of Salmon |
| 1:5 |

| 1:9 |
and Uzzi′ahUzziah the father of Jotham and Jotham the father of Ahaz and Ahaz the father of Hezeki′ahHezekiah |
| 1:10 |
and Hezeki′ahHezekiah the father of Manas′sehManasseh and Manas′sehManasseh the father of Amos and Amos the father of Josi′ahJosiah |
| 1:11 |
and Josi′ahJosiah the father of Jechoni′ahJechoniah and his brothers at the time of the deportation to Babylon |
| 1:12 |
And after the deportation to Babylon: Jechoni′ahJechoniah was the father of SheSalathiel al′ti el and SheSalathiel al′ti el the father of Zerub′babelZerubbabel |
| 1:13 |
and Zerub′babelZerubbabel the father of Abi′udAbiud and Abi′udAbiud the father of Eli′akimEliakim and Eli′akimEliakim the father of Azor |

| 1:16 |
and Jacob the father of Joseph the husband of Mary of whom Jesus was born who is called Christthe Messiah |
| 1:17 |
So all the generations from Abraham to David wereare fourteen generations; and from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations; and from the deportation to Babylon to the ChristMessiah fourteen generations |
| 1:18 |
Now the birth of Jesus Christthe Messiah took place in this way When his mother Mary had been betrothedengaged to Joseph but before they camelived together she was found to be with child offrom the Holy Spirit; |
| 1:19 |
andHer her husband Joseph being a justrighteous man and unwilling to putexpose her to shamepublic resolveddisgrace planned to divorcedismiss her quietly |
| 1:20 |
But asjust when he consideredhad resolved to do this behold an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream sayingand said Joseph son of David do not fearbe afraid to take Mary as your wife for thatthe whichchild is conceived in her is offrom the Holy Spirit; |
| 1:21 |
sheShe will bear a son and you shallare callto his name him Jesus for he will save his people from their sins |
| 1:22 |
All this took place to fulfilfulfill what thehad Lordbeen had spoken by the Lord through the prophet: |
| 1:23 |
BeholdLook athe virgin shall conceive and bear a son and histhey name shall bename calledhim Emman′uEmmanuel el which means God is with us |
| 1:24 |
When Joseph wokeawoke from sleep he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took her as his wife |
| 1:25 |
but knewhad no marital relations with her not until she had borne a son; and he callednamed hishim name Jesus |
| 2:1 |
NowIn whenthe time of King Herod after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king behold wise men from the East came to Jerusalem saying |
| 2:2 |
asking Where is hethe child who has been born king of the Jews For we haveobserved seen his star inat theits Eastrising and have come to worshippay him homage |
| 2:3 |
When King Herod the king heard this he was troubledfrightened and all Jerusalem with him; |
| 2:4 |
and assemblingcalling together all the chief priests and scribes of the people he inquired of them where the ChristMessiah was to be born |
| 2:5 |
They told him In Bethlehem of Judea; for so it ishas been written by the prophet: |
| 2:6 |
And you O Bethlehem in the land of Judah are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who willis governto shepherd my people Israel |
| 2:7 |
Then Herod summonedsecretly called for the wise men secretly and ascertainedlearned from them whatthe exact time when the star had appeared; |
| 2:8 |
andThen he sent them to Bethlehem saying Go and search diligently for the child; and when you have found him bring me word so that I too may comealso go and worshippay him homage |
| 2:9 |
When they had heard the king they wentset their wayout; and lothere ahead of them went the star whichthat they had seen inat theits Eastrising wentuntil before them till it camestopped to rest over the place where the child was |
| 2:10 |
When they saw that the star had stopped they rejoicedwere exceedinglyoverwhelmed with great joy; |
| 2:11 |
andOn goingentering into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they fellknelt down and worshipedpaid him homage Then opening their treasurestreasure chests they offered him gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh |
| 2:12 |
And beinghaving been warned in a dream not to return to Herod they departedleft tofor their own country by another wayroad |
| 2:13 |
Now whenafter they had departedleft behold an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said RiseGet up take the child and his mother and flee to Egypt and remain there tilluntil I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child to destroy him |
| 2:14 |
AndThen heJoseph rosegot andup took the child and his mother by night and departedwent to Egypt |
| 2:15 |
and remained there until the death of Herod This was to fulfilfulfill what thehad Lordbeen had spoken by the Lord through the prophet Out of Egypt I have I called my son |
| 2:16 |
ThenWhen Herod when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men he was ininfuriated a furious rage and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and inaround allBethlehem that region who were two years old or under according to the time whichthat he had ascertainedlearned from the wise men |
| 2:17 |
Then was fulfilled what washad been spoken bythrough the prophet Jeremiah: |
| 2:18 |
A voice was heard in Ramah wailing and loud lamentation Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be consoled because they wereare no more |
| 2:19 |
ButWhen when Herod died behold an angel of the Lord suddenly appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt sayingand said |
| 2:20 |
RiseGet up take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel for those who soughtwere seeking the childs life are dead |
| 2:21 |
AndThen heJoseph rosegot andup took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel |
| 2:22 |
But when he heard that Archela′usArchelaus reignedwas ruling over Judea in place of his father Herod he was afraid to go there andAnd after being warned in a dream he withdrewwent away to the district of Galilee |
| 2:23 |
AndThere he wentmade andhis dwelthome in a citytown called Nazareth so that what washad been spoken bythrough the prophets might be fulfilled He shallwill be called a NazareneNazorean |
| 3:1 |
In those days came John the Baptist preachingappeared in the wilderness of Judea proclaiming |
| 3:2 |
Repent for the kingdom of heaven ishas atcome handnear |
| 3:3 |
ForThis this is hethe whoone was spoken of bywhom the prophet Isaiah spoke when he said The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord make his paths straight |
| 3:4 |
Now John wore aclothing garment of camels hair andwith a leather girdlebelt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey |
| 3:5 |
Then wentthe outpeople toof him Jerusalem and all Judea were going out to him and all the region aboutalong the Jordan |
| 3:7 |
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sad′duceesSadducees coming for baptism he said to them You brood of vipers Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come |
| 3:8 |
Bear fruit thatworthy befitsof repentance |
| 3:9 |
andDo do not presume to say to yourselves We have Abraham as our fatherancestor; for I tell you God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham |
| 3:10 |
Even now the axeax is laidlying toat the root of the trees; every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire |
| 3:11 |
I baptize you with water for repentance but heone who is comingmore afterpowerful methan I is mightiercoming thanafter Ime; whose sandals I am not worthy to carry; hehis sandals He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire |
| 3:12 |
His winnowing fork is in his hand and he will clear his threshing floor and will gather his wheat into the granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire |
| 3:13 |
Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to John to be baptized by him |
| 3:15 |
But Jesus answered him Let it be so now; for thus it is fittingproper for us in this way to fulfilfulfill all righteousness Then he consented |
| 3:16 |
And when Jesus washad been baptized just as he wentcame up immediately from the water andsuddenly behold the heavens were opened to him and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him; |
| 3:17 |
andAnd lo a voice from heaven sayingsaid This is my beloved Son the Beloved with whom I am well pleased |
| 4:2 |
AndHe he fasted forty days and forty nights and afterwardafterwards he was hungryfamished |
| 4:3 |
AndThe the tempter came and said to him If you are the Son of God command these stones to become loaves of bread |
| 4:4 |
But he answered It is written ManOne shalldoes not live by bread alone but by every word that proceedscomes from the mouth of God |
| 4:5 |
Then the devil took him to the holy city and setplaced him on the pinnacle of the temple |
| 4:6 |
andsaying said to him If you are the Son of God throw yourself down; for it is written He will givecommand his angels chargeconcerning of you and On their hands they will bear you up lestso that you strikewill not dash your foot against a stone |
| 4:7 |
Jesus said to him Again it is written YouDo shall not temptput the Lord your God to the test |
| 4:8 |
Again the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and thetheir glory of themsplendor; |
| 4:10 |
Then Jesus said to him BegoneAway with you Satan for it is written YouWorship shall worship the Lord your God and himserve only shallhim you serve |
| 4:11 |
Then the devil left him and beholdsuddenly angels came and ministeredwaited toon him |
| 4:12 |
Now when heJesus heard that John had been arrested he withdrew intoto Galilee; |
| 4:13 |
andHe leavingleft Nazareth heand wentmade andhis dwelthome in Caper′naCapernaum um by the sea in the territory of Zeb′ulunZebulun and Naph′taliNaphtali |
| 4:14 |
so that what washad been spoken bythrough the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: |
| 4:15 |
TheLand of Zebulun land of Zeb′ulunNaphtali andon the landroad ofby Naph′tali toward the sea across the Jordan Galilee of the Gentiles— |
| 4:17 |
From that time Jesus began to preachproclaim saying Repent for the kingdom of heaven ishas atcome handnear |
| 4:18 |
As he walked by the Sea of Galilee he saw two brothers Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; —for they were fishermen |
| 4:19 |
And he said to them Follow me and I will make you fishersfish offor menpeople |
| 4:21 |
AndAs goinghe onwent from there he saw two other brothers James the son of Zeb′edeeZebedee and John his brother John in the boat with Zeb′edee their father Zebedee mending their nets and he called them |
| 4:23 |
AndJesus he went aboutthroughout all Galilee teaching in their synagogues and preachingproclaiming the gospelgood news of the kingdom and healingcuring every disease and every infirmitysickness among the people |
| 4:24 |
So his fame spread throughout all Syria and they brought to him all the sick those who were afflicted with various diseases and pains demoniacs epileptics and paralytics and he healedcured them |
| 4:25 |
And great crowds followed him from Galilee and the Decap′olisDecapolis and Jerusalem and Judea and from beyond the Jordan |
| 5:1 |
SeeingWhen Jesus saw the crowds he went up on the mountain; and whenafter he sat down his disciples came to him |
| 5:2 |
AndThen he openedbegan histo mouthspeak and taught them saying: |
| 5:4 |
Blessed are those who mourn for they shallwill be comforted |
| 5:5 |
Blessed are the meek for they shallwill inherit the earth |
| 5:6 |
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shallwill be satisfiedfilled |
| 5:7 |
Blessed are the merciful for they shallwill obtainreceive mercy |
| 5:8 |
Blessed are the pure in heart for they shallwill see God |
| 5:9 |
Blessed are the peacemakers for they shallwill be called sonschildren of God |
| 5:11 |
Blessed are you when menpeople revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account |
| 5:12 |
Rejoice and be glad for your reward is great in heaven for soin menthe same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you |
| 5:13 |
You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste how shallcan its saltnesssaltiness be restored It is no longer good for anything exceptbut tois be thrown out and troddentrampled under foot by men |
| 5:14 |
You are the light of the world A city setbuilt on a hill cannot be hid |
| 5:15 |
NorNo doone menafter lightlighting a lamp andputs put it under athe bushel basket but on athe standlampstand and it gives light to all in the house |
| 5:16 |
LetIn the same way let your light so shine before menothers so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven |
| 5:17 |
ThinkDo not think that I have come to abolish the law andor the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfilfulfill them |
| 5:18 |
For truly I saytell to you tilluntil heaven and earth pass away not anone iotaletter not one stroke of a dotletter will pass from the law until all is accomplished |
| 5:19 |
WhoeverTherefore thenwhoever relaxesbreaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches menothers soto shalldo the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but hewhoever who does them and teaches them shallwill be called great in the kingdom of heaven |
| 5:21 |
You have heard that it was said to thethose men of oldancient times You shall not killmurder; and whoever killsmurders shall be liable to judgment |
| 5:22 |
But I say to you that everyif oneyou whoare is angry with hisa brother shallor sister you will be liable to judgment; whoeverand insultsif hisyou insult a brother shallor sister you will be liable to the council; and whoeverif saysyou say You fool shallyou will be liable to the hell of fire |
| 5:23 |
So ifwhen you are offering your gift at the altar andif thereyou remember that your brother or sister has something against you |
| 5:24 |
leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother or sister and then come and offer your gift |
| 5:25 |
MakeCome friendsto terms quickly with your accuser while you are goingon withthe himway to court lestwith him or your accuser may hand you over to the judge and the judge to the guard and you will be putthrown ininto prison; |
| 5:26 |
trulyTruly I saytell to you you will never get out tilluntil you have paid the last penny |
| 5:28 |
But I say to you that everyeveryone one who looks at a woman lustfullywith lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart |
| 5:29 |
If your right eye causes you to sin plucktear it out and throw it away; it is better thatfor you to lose one of your members than thatfor your whole body to be thrown into hell |
| 5:30 |
And if your right hand causes you to sin cut it off and throw it away; it is better thatfor you to lose one of your members than thatfor your whole body to go into hell |
| 5:32 |
But I say to you that everyanyone one who divorces his wife except on the ground of unchastity makescauses her anto adulteresscommit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery |
| 5:33 |
Again you have heard that it was said to thethose men of oldancient times You shall not swear falsely but shallcarry performout to the Lordvows what you have swornmade to the Lord |
| 5:37 |
Let whatyour youword say be simplyYes Yes or No No; anything more than this comes from the evil one |
| 5:39 |
But I say to you Do not resist onean whoevildoer is evil But if anyanyone one strikes you on the right cheek turn to him the other also; |
| 5:40 |
and if anyanyone onewants wouldto sue you and take your coat letgive him have your cloak as well; |
| 5:41 |
and if anyanyone one forces you to go one mile go withalso himthe twosecond milesmile |
| 5:42 |
Give to himeveryone who begs from you and do not refuse himanyone who wouldwants to borrow from you |
| 5:45 |
so that you may be sonschildren of your Father who is in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the justrighteous and on the unjustunrighteous |
| 5:46 |
For if you love those who love you what reward havedo you have Do not even the tax collectors do the same |
| 5:47 |
And if you salutegreet only your brethrenbrothers and sisters what more are you doing than others Do not even the Gentiles do the same |
| 5:48 |
YouBe perfect therefore must be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect |
| 6:1 |
Beware of practicing your piety before menothers in order to be seen by them; for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven |
| 6:2 |
ThusSo whenwhenever you give alms do not sound noa trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets so that they may be praised by menothers Truly I saytell to you they have received their reward |
| 6:4 |
so that your alms may be done in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you |
| 6:5 |
And whenwhenever you pray youdo must not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners so that they may be seen by menothers Truly I saytell to you they have received their reward |
| 6:6 |
But whenwhenever you pray go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you |
| 6:7 |
AndWhen inyou are praying do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard forbecause of their many words |
| 6:9 |
Pray then likein this way: Our Father who art in heaven Hallowedhallowed be thyyour name |
| 6:10 |
ThyYour kingdom come ThyYour will be done Onon earth as it is in heaven |
| 6:11 |
Give us this day our daily bread; |
| 6:12 |
And forgive us our debts Asas we also have forgiven our debtors; |
| 6:13 |
And leaddo not bring us notto intothe temptationtime Butof delivertrial but rescue us from the evil one |
| 6:14 |
For if you forgive menothers their trespasses your heavenly Father will also will forgive you; |
| 6:15 |
but if you do not forgive menothers their trespasses neither will your Father forgive your trespasses |
| 6:16 |
And whenwhenever you fast do not look dismal like the hypocrites for they disfigure their faces thatso theiras fastingto mayshow beothers seenthat bythey menare fasting Truly I saytell to you they have received their reward |
| 6:17 |
But when you fast anointput oil on your head and wash your face |
| 6:18 |
so that your fasting may not be seen not by menothers but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you |
| 6:19 |
Do not laystore up for yourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; |
| 6:20 |
but laystore up for yourselves treasures in heaven where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal |
| 6:21 |
For where your treasure is there will your heart will be also |
| 6:22 |
The eye is the lamp of the body So if your eye is soundhealthy your whole body will be full of light; |
| 6:23 |
but if your eye is notunhealthy sound your whole body will be full of darkness If then the light in you is darkness how great is the darkness |
| 6:24 |
No one can serve two masters; for eithera heslave will either hate the one and love the other or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other You cannot serve God and mammonwealth |
| 6:25 |
Therefore I tell you do not beworry anxious about your life what you shallwill eat or what you shallwill drink noror about your body what you shallwill putwear on Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing |
| 6:26 |
Look at the birds of the air:; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns and yet your heavenly Father feeds them Are you not of more value than they |
| 6:27 |
And whichcan any of you by beingworrying anxiousadd cana addsingle onehour cubit to hisyour span of life |
| 6:28 |
And why aredo you anxiousworry about clothing Consider the lilies of the field how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; |
| 6:29 |
yet I tell you even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayedclothed like one of these |
| 6:30 |
But if God so clothes the grass of the field which today is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven will he not much more clothe you—you O men of little faith |
| 6:31 |
Therefore do not beworry anxious saying What shallwill we eat or What shallwill we drink or What shallwill we wear |
| 6:32 |
For it is the Gentiles seekwho strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need them all these things |
| 6:33 |
But seekstrive first hisfor the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shallwill be yoursgiven to you as well |
| 6:34 |
ThereforeSo do not beworry anxious about tomorrow for tomorrow will bebring anxiousworries forof itselfits Letown theTodays days own trouble beis sufficientenough for the daytoday |
| 7:1 |
JudgeDo not judge so that you bemay not be judged |
| 7:2 |
For with the judgment you pronouncemake you will be judged and the measure you give will be the measure you get |
| 7:3 |
Why do you see the speck that is in your brothersneighbors eye but do not notice the log that is in your own eye |
| 7:4 |
Or how can you say to your brotherneighbor Let me take the speck out of your eye whenwhile there is the log is in your own eye |
| 7:5 |
You hypocrite first take the log out of your own eye and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brothersneighbors eye |
| 7:6 |
Do not give dogs what is holy to dogs; and do not throw your pearls before swine lestor they will trample them under foot and turn toand attackmaul you |
| 7:7 |
Ask and it will be given you; seeksearch and you will find; knock and itthe door will be opened tofor you |
| 7:8 |
For everyeveryone one who asks receives and heeveryone who seekssearches finds and tofor himeveryone who knocks itthe door will be opened |
| 7:9 |
OrIs whatthere mananyone ofamong you who if hisyour sonchild asks him for bread will give him a stone |
| 7:10 |
Or if hethe child asks for a fish will give him a serpentsnake |
| 7:11 |
If you then who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him |
| 7:12 |
SoIn whatevereverything youdo wishto thatothers menas you would dohave tothem you do so to themyou; for this is the law and the prophets |
| 7:13 |
Enter bythrough the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the wayroad is easy that leads to destruction and thosethere are many who entertake by it are many |
| 7:14 |
For the gate is narrow and the wayroad is hard that leads to life and thosethere are few who find it are few |
| 7:17 |
SoIn the same way every soundgood tree bears good fruit but the bad tree bears evilbad fruit |
| 7:18 |
A soundgood tree cannot bear evilbad fruit nor can a bad tree bear good fruit |
| 7:21 |
Not everyeveryone one who says to me Lord Lord shallwill enter the kingdom of heaven but heonly the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven |
| 7:22 |
On that day many will say to me Lord Lord did we not prophesy in your name and cast out demons in your name and do many mightydeeds worksof power in your name |
| 7:23 |
AndThen thenI will I declare to them I never knew you; departgo away from me you evildoers |
| 7:24 |
EveryEveryone one then who hears these words of mine and doesacts on them will be like a wise man who built his house uponon the rock; |
| 7:25 |
andThe the rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat uponon that house but it did not fall because it had been founded on the rock |
| 7:26 |
And everyeveryone one who hears these words of mine and does not doact on them will be like a foolish man who built his house uponon the sand; |
| 7:27 |
andThe the rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat against that house and it fell; —and great was theits fall of it |
| 7:28 |
AndNow when Jesus had finished saying these sayingsthings the crowds were astonishedastounded at his teaching |
| 7:29 |
for he taught them as one whohaving had authority and not as their scribes |
| 8:1 |
When heJesus camehad come down from the mountain great crowds followed him; |
| 8:2 |
and beholdthere was a leper who came to him and knelt before him saying Lord if you willchoose you can make me clean |
| 8:3 |
AndHe he stretched out his hand and touched him saying I will;do bechoose Be made clean AndImmediately immediately his leprosy was cleansed |
| 8:4 |
AndThen Jesus said to him See that you say nothing to any oneanyone; but go show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded foras a prooftestimony to the peoplethem |
| 8:5 |
AsWhen he entered Caper′naCapernaum um a centurion came forward to him beseechingappealing to him |
| 8:6 |
and saying Lord my servant is lying paralyzed at home paralyzed in terrible distress |
| 8:7 |
And he said to him I will come and healcure him |
| 8:8 |
ButThe the centurion answered him Lord I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; but only sayspeak the word and my servant will be healed |
| 8:9 |
For I also am a man under authority with soldiers under me; and I say to one Go and he goes and to another Come and he comes and to my slave Do this and hethe slave does it |
| 8:10 |
When Jesus heard him he marveledwas amazed and said to those who followed him Truly I saytell to you notin evenno one in Israel have I found such faith |
| 8:11 |
I tell you many will come from east and west and sitwill ateat table with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven |
| 8:12 |
while the sonsheirs of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness; where there men will weepbe weeping and gnashgnashing theirof teeth |
| 8:13 |
And to the centurion Jesus said Go; belet it be done for you asaccording youto haveyour believedfaith And the servant was healed atin that very momenthour |
| 8:14 |
AndWhen when Jesus entered Peters house he saw his mother in law lying sickin bed with a fever; |
| 8:15 |
he touched her hand and the fever left her and she rosegot up and servedbegan to serve him |
| 8:16 |
That evening they brought to him many who were possessed with demons; and he cast out the spirits with a word and healedcured all who were sick |
| 8:17 |
This was to fulfilfulfill what washad been spoken bythrough the prophet Isaiah He took our infirmities and bore our diseases |
| 8:19 |
AndA a scribe camethen upapproached and said to him Teacher I will follow you wherever you go |
| 8:20 |
And Jesus said to him Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of manMan has nowhere to lay his head |
| 8:21 |
Another of thehis disciples said to him Lord first let me first go and bury my father |
| 8:22 |
But Jesus said to him Follow me and leavelet the dead to bury their own dead |
| 8:24 |
AndA beholdwindstorm there arose a great storm on the sea so great that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep |
| 8:25 |
And they went and woke him up saying Save Lord; wesave us We are perishing |
| 8:26 |
And he said to them Why are you afraid Oyou men of little faith Then he rosegot up and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a greatdead calm |
| 8:27 |
AndThey thewere menamazed marveled saying What sort of man is this that even the winds and the sea obey him |
| 8:28 |
AndWhen when he came to the other side to the country of the Gadarenes two demoniacs met him coming out of the tombs met him They were so fierce that no one could pass that way |
| 8:29 |
AndSuddenly behold they criedshouted out What have you to do with us O Son of God Have you come here to torment us before the time |
| 8:30 |
Now a large herd of many swine was feeding at some distance from them |
| 8:31 |
AndThe the demons begged him If you cast us out send us away into the herd of swine |
| 8:32 |
And he said to them Go So they came out and wententered into the swine; and beholdsuddenly the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and perished in the waterswater |
| 8:33 |
The herdsmenswineherds fledran off and on going into the citytown they told everythingthe andwhole story about what had happened to the demoniacs |
| 8:34 |
AndThen beholdthe allwhole thetown city came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw him they begged him to leave their neighborhood |
| 9:1 |
And after getting into a boat he crossed overthe sea and came to his own city town |
| 9:2 |
And beholdjust theythen broughtsome topeople himwere carrying a paralyticparalyzed man lying on hisa bed; andWhen when Jesus saw their faith he said to the paralytic Take heart my son; your sins are forgiven |
| 9:3 |
AndThen behold some of the scribes said to themselves This man is blaspheming |
| 9:4 |
But Jesus knowingperceiving their thoughts said Why do you think evil in your hearts |
| 9:5 |
For which is easier to say Your sins are forgiven or to say RiseStand up and walk |
| 9:6 |
But so that you may know that the Son of manMan has authority on earth to forgive sins—he then said to the paralytic—RiseStand up take up your bed and go to your home |
| 9:7 |
And he rosestood up and went to his home |
| 9:8 |
When the crowds saw it they were afraidfilled with awe and they glorified God who had given such authority to menhuman beings |
| 9:9 |
As Jesus passedwas onwalking fromalong there he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax officebooth; and he said to him Follow me And he rosegot up and followed him |
| 9:10 |
And as he sat at tabledinner in the house behold many tax collectors and sinners came and satwere downsitting with Jesushim and his disciples |
| 9:11 |
AndWhen when the Pharisees saw this they said to his disciples Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners |
| 9:12 |
But when he heard itthis he said Those who are well have no need of a physician but those who are sick |
| 9:13 |
Go and learn what this means I desire mercy and not sacrifice For I camehave notcome to call not the righteous but sinners |
| 9:14 |
Then the disciples of John came to him saying Why do we and the Pharisees fast often but your disciples do not fast |
| 9:15 |
And Jesus said to them CanThe the wedding guests cannot mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them can they The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them and then they will fast |
| 9:16 |
AndNo no one putssews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garmentcloak for the patch tearspulls away from the garmentcloak and a worse tear is made |
| 9:17 |
Neither is new wine put into old wineskins; ifotherwise it is the skins burst and the wine is spilled and the skins are destroyed; but new wine is put into fresh wineskins and so both are preserved |
| 9:18 |
While he was thussaying speakingthese things to them beholdsuddenly a rulerleader of the synagogue came in and knelt before him saying My daughter has just died; but come and lay your hand on her and she will live |
| 9:19 |
And Jesus rosegot up and followed him with his disciples |
| 9:20 |
AndThen beholdsuddenly a woman who had sufferedbeen suffering from ahemorrhages hemorrhage for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment;cloak |
| 9:21 |
for she said to herself If I only touch his garmentcloak I shallwill be made well |
| 9:23 |
AndWhen when Jesus came to the rulersleaders house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a tumultcommotion |
| 9:24 |
he said DepartGo away; for the girl is not dead but sleeping And they laughed at him |
| 9:25 |
But when the crowd had been put outside he went in and took her by the hand and the girl arosegot up |
| 9:26 |
And the report of this wentspread throughthroughout all that district |
| 9:27 |
AndAs as Jesus passedwent on from there two blind men followed him crying aloudloudly Have mercy on us Son of David |
| 9:29 |
Then he touched their eyes sayingand said According to your faith belet it be done to you |
| 9:30 |
And their eyes were opened AndThen Jesus sternly chargedordered them See that no one knows itof this |
| 9:31 |
But they went away and spread histhe famenews throughabout allhim throughout that district |
| 9:32 |
AsAfter they werehad goinggone away behold a dumb demoniac who was mute was brought to him |
| 9:33 |
And when the demon had been cast out the dumbone manwho had been mute spoke; and the crowds marveledwere sayingamazed and said Never washas anything like this been seen in Israel |
| 9:34 |
But the Pharisees said HeBy caststhe outruler of the demons byhe thecasts princeout ofthe demons |
| 9:35 |
AndThen Jesus went about all the cities and villages teaching in their synagogues and preachingproclaiming the gospelgood news of the kingdom and healingcuring every disease and every infirmitysickness |
| 9:38 |
pray therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest |
| 10:1 |
AndThen heJesus calledsummoned to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits to cast them out and to healcure every disease and every infirmitysickness |
| 10:2 |
TheThese are the names of the twelve apostles are these: first Simon whoalso isknown calledas Peter and Andrew his brother Andrew; James the son of Zeb′edeeZebedee and John his brother John; |
| 10:3 |
Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus and Thaddaeus; |
| 10:4 |
Simon the Cananaean and Judas Iscariot the one who betrayed him |
| 10:5 |
These twelve Jesus sent out chargingwith themthe following instructions: Go nowhere among the Gentiles and enter no town of the Samaritans |
| 10:7 |
AndAs preach as you go sayingproclaim the good news The kingdom of heaven ishas atcome handnear |
| 10:8 |
HealCure the sick raise the dead cleanse the lepers cast out demons You received without payingpayment; give without paypayment |
| 10:9 |
Take no gold noror silver noror copper in your belts |
| 10:10 |
no bag for your journey noror two tunics noror sandals noror a staff; for thelaborers laborerdeserve deservestheir his food |
| 10:11 |
AndWhatever whatever town or village you enter find out who in it is worthy in it and stay withthere him until you departleave |
| 10:12 |
As you enter the house salutegreet it |
| 10:13 |
AndIf if the house is worthy let your peace come upon it; but if it is not worthy let your peace return to you |
| 10:14 |
AndIf ifanyone any one will not receivewelcome you or listen to your words shake off the dust from your feet as you leave that house or town |
| 10:15 |
Truly I saytell to you it shallwill be more tolerable onfor the dayland of judgmentSodom forand Gomorrah on the landday of Sodomjudgment and Gomor′rah than for that town |
| 10:16 |
BeholdSee I sendam sending you out aslike sheep ininto the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves |
| 10:17 |
Beware of men;them for they will deliverhand you upover to councils and flog you in their synagogues; |
| 10:18 |
and you will be dragged before governors and kings forbecause myof sakeme toas beara testimony beforeto them and the Gentiles |
| 10:19 |
When they deliverhand you upover do not beworry anxiousabout how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you inat that hourtime; |
| 10:21 |
Brother will deliverbetray up brother to death and thea father his child and children will rise against parents and have them put to death; |
| 10:22 |
and you will be hated by all forbecause of my namesname sake But hethe one who endures to the end will be saved |
| 10:23 |
When they persecute you in one town flee to the next; for truly I saytell to you you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of manMan comes |
| 10:24 |
A disciple is not above histhe teacher nor a servantslave above histhe master; |
| 10:25 |
it is enough for the disciple to be like histhe teacher and the servantslave like histhe master If they have called the master of the house BeBeelzebul el′zebul how much more will they malign those of his household |
| 10:26 |
So have no fear of them; for nothing is covered up that will not be revealeduncovered orand hiddennothing secret that will not bebecome known |
| 10:27 |
What I tellsay to you in the dark uttertell in the light; and what you hear whispered proclaim uponfrom the housetops |
| 10:28 |
AndDo do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell |
| 10:29 |
Are not two sparrows sold for a penny AndYet not one of them will fall to the ground withoutapart from your FathersFather will |
| 10:30 |
ButAnd even the hairs of your head are all numberedcounted |
| 10:31 |
FearSo do not thereforebe afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows |
| 10:32 |
SoEveryone everytherefore one who acknowledges me before menothers I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven; |
| 10:33 |
but whoever denies me before menothers I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven |
| 10:34 |
Do not think that I have come to bring peace onto the earth; I have not come to bring peace but a sword |
| 10:36 |
and aones mans foes will be thosemembers of hisones own household |
| 10:37 |
HeWhoever who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and hewhoever who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; |
| 10:38 |
and hewhoever who does not take hisup the cross and follow me is not worthy of me |
| 10:39 |
HeThose who findsfind histheir life will lose it and hethose who loseslose histheir life for my sake will find it |
| 10:40 |
HeWhoever whowelcomes receives you receiveswelcomes me and hewhoever whowelcomes receives me receiveswelcomes himthe one who sent me |
| 10:41 |
HeWhoever whowelcomes receives a prophet becausein hethe isname of a prophet shallwill receive a prophets reward; and hewhoever whowelcomes receives a righteous manperson becausein hethe isname of a righteous manperson shallwill receive athe righteousreward mansof rewardthe righteous; |
| 10:42 |
Andand whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones evenin athe cupname of cold water because he is a disciple —truly I saytell to you henone shallof notthese will lose histheir reward |
| 11:1 |
AndNow when Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples he went on from there to teach and preachproclaim his message in their cities |
| 11:2 |
NowWhen when John heard in prison aboutwhat the deedsMessiah ofwas thedoing Christ he sent word by his disciples |
| 11:3 |
and said to him Are you hethe one who is to come or shallare we lookto wait for another |
| 11:4 |
And Jesus answered them Go and tell John what you hear and see: |
| 11:5 |
the blind receive their sight and the lame walk the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear and the dead are raised up and the poor have good news preachedbrought to them |
| 11:6 |
And blessed is heanyone who takes no offense at me |
| 11:7 |
As they went away Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerningabout John: What did you go out into the wilderness to beholdlook at A reed shaken by the wind |
| 11:8 |
WhyWhat then did you go out Toto see aSomeone mandressed clothed in soft raimentrobes BeholdLook those who wear soft raimentrobes are in kingsroyal housespalaces |
| 11:9 |
WhyWhat then did you go out Toto see aA prophet Yes I tell you and more than a prophet |
| 11:10 |
This is hethe ofone about whom it is written BeholdSee I sendam sending my messenger beforeahead thyof faceyou who shallwill prepare thyyour way before theeyou |
| 11:11 |
Truly I saytell to you among those born of women thereno one has risenarisen no one greater than John the Baptist; yet hethe who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he |
| 11:12 |
From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence and menthe ofviolent violence take it by force |
| 11:13 |
For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John came; |
| 11:14 |
and if you are willing to accept it he is Eli′jahElijah who is to come |
| 11:15 |
HeLet whoanyone haswith ears to hear let him hearlisten |
| 11:16 |
But to what shallwill I compare this generation It is like children sitting in the marketmarketplaces places and calling to theirone playmatesanother |
| 11:17 |
We pipedplayed tothe flute for you and you did not dance; we wailed and you did not mourn |
| 11:19 |
the Son of manMan came eating and drinking and they say BeholdLook a glutton and a drunkard a friend of tax collectors and sinners Yet wisdom is justifiedvindicated by her deeds |
| 11:20 |
Then he began to upbraidreproach the cities wherein which most of his mightydeeds worksof power had been done because they did not repent |
| 11:21 |
Woe to you Chora′zinChorazin woeWoe to you BethBethsaida sa′idaFor for if the mightydeeds worksof power done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes |
| 11:22 |
But I tell you it shall be more tolerable on the day of judgment it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon than for you |
| 11:23 |
And you Caper′naCapernaum um will you be exalted to heaven YouNo shallyou will be brought down to Hades For if the mightydeeds worksof power done in you had been done in Sodom it would have remained until this day |
| 11:24 |
But I tell you that it shall be more tolerable on the day of judgment it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom than for you |
| 11:25 |
At that time Jesus declaredsaid I thank theeyou Father Lord of heaven and earth thatbecause thouyou hasthave hidden these things from the wise and understandingthe intelligent and have revealed them to babesinfants; |
| 11:26 |
yeayes Father for such was thyyour gracious will |
| 11:27 |
All things have been deliveredhanded over to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyanyone one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him |
| 11:28 |
Come to me all whoyou laborthat are weary and are carrying heavy ladenburdens and I will give you rest |
| 11:29 |
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowlyhumble in heart and you will find rest for your souls |
| 12:2 |
ButWhen when the Pharisees saw it they said to him Look your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the sabbath |
| 12:3 |
He said to them Have you not read what David did when he was hungry and thosehis whocompanions were withhungry him: |
| 12:4 |
howHe he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the Presence which it was not lawful for him toor eathis norcompanions forto thoseeat who were with him but only for the priests |
| 12:5 |
Or have you not read in the law howthat on the sabbath the priests in the temple profanebreak the sabbath and yet are guiltless |
| 12:7 |
AndBut if you had known what this means I desire mercy and not sacrifice you would not have condemned the guiltless |
| 12:8 |
For the Son of manMan is lord of the sabbath |
| 12:9 |
AndHe heleft wentthat onplace from there and entered their synagogue; |
| 12:10 |
Anda beholdman there was athere man with a withered hand Andand they asked him Is it lawful to healcure on the sabbath so that they might accuse him |
| 12:11 |
He said to them WhatSuppose manone of you ifhas heonly has one sheep and it falls into a pit on the sabbath; will you not lay hold of it and lift it out |
| 12:12 |
OfHow how much more valuevaluable is a manhuman being than a sheep So it is lawful to do good on the sabbath |
| 12:13 |
Then he said to the man Stretch out your hand AndHe the man stretched it out and it was restored wholeas likesound as the other |
| 12:14 |
But the Pharisees went out and tookconspired counsel against him how to destroy him |
| 12:15 |
When Jesus became aware of this withdrewhe fromdeparted thereMany Andcrowds many followed him and he healedcured all of them all |
| 12:16 |
and he ordered them not to make him known |
| 12:17 |
This was to fulfilfulfill what washad been spoken bythrough the prophet Isaiah: |
| 12:18 |
BeholdHere is my servant whom I have chosen my beloved with whom my soul is well pleased I will put my Spirit upon him and he shallwill proclaim justice to the Gentiles |
| 12:19 |
He will not wrangle or cry aloud nor will anyanyone one hear his voice in the streets; |
| 12:20 |
heHe will not break a bruised reed or quench a smoldering wick tilluntil he brings justice to victory; |
| 12:21 |
And and in his name will the Gentiles will hope |
| 12:22 |
Then athey blindbrought andto dumbhim a demoniac who was broughtblind toand himmute; and he healedcured him so that the dumbone manwho spokehad been mute could speak and sawsee |
| 12:23 |
AndAll all the peoplecrowds were amazed and said Can this be the Son of David |
| 12:24 |
But when the Pharisees heard it they said It is only by BeBeelzebul el′zebul the princeruler of the demons that this manfellow casts out the demons |
| 12:25 |
KnowingHe theirknew thoughtswhat hethey were thinking and said to them Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste and no city or house divided against itself will stand; |
| 12:26 |
andIf if Satan casts out Satan he is divided against himself; how then will his kingdom stand |
| 12:27 |
AndIf if I cast out demons by BeBeelzebul el′zebul by whom do your sonsown exorcists cast them out Therefore they shallwill be your judges |
| 12:28 |
But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons then the kingdom of God has come uponto you |
| 12:29 |
Or how can one enter a strong mans house and plunder his goodsproperty unlesswithout he first bindstying up the strong man Then indeed hethe mayhouse plundercan hisbe houseplundered |
| 12:30 |
HeWhoever who is not with me is against me and hewhoever who does not gather with me scatters |
| 12:31 |
Therefore I tell you everypeople sin and blasphemy will be forgiven menfor butevery thesin and blasphemy but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven |
| 12:32 |
AndWhoever whoeverspeaks says a word against the Son of manMan will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven either in this age or in the age to come |
| 12:34 |
You brood of vipers howHow can you speak good things when you are evil For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks |
| 12:35 |
The good manperson brings good things out of hisa good treasure bringsand forththe goodevil andperson thebrings evil manthings out of hisan evil treasure brings forth evil |
| 12:36 |
I tell you on the day of judgment menyou will renderhave to give an account for every careless word theyyou utter; |
| 12:39 |
But he answered them An evil and adulterous generation seeksasks for a sign; but no sign shallwill be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah |
| 12:40 |
For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whalesea monster so willfor the Son of man be three days and three nights the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth |
| 12:41 |
The menpeople of Nin′evehNineveh will ariserise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; forbecause they repented at the preachingproclamation of Jonah and beholdsee something greater than Jonah is here |
| 12:42 |
The queen of the South will ariserise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; forbecause she came from the ends of the earth to hearlisten to the wisdom of Solomon and beholdsee something greater than Solomon is here |
| 12:43 |
When the unclean spirit has gone out of a manperson heit passeswanders through waterless placesregions seekinglooking restfor a resting place but heit finds none |
| 12:44 |
Then heit says I will return to my house from which I came AndWhen whenit he comes heit finds it empty swept and put in order |
| 12:45 |
Then heit goes and brings withalong him seven other spirits more evil than himselfitself and they enter and dwelllive there; and the last state of that manperson becomesis worse than the first So shallwill it be also with this evil generation |
| 12:46 |
While he was still speaking to the peoplecrowds behold his mother and his brothers stoodwere standing outside askingwanting to speak to him |
| 12:48 |
But he replied to the manone who had told him this Jesus replied Who is my mother and who are my brothers |
| 12:49 |
And stretchingpointing outto his hand toward his disciples he said Here are my mother and my brothers |
| 13:2 |
AndSuch great crowds gathered aboutaround him so that he got into a boat and sat there; andwhile the whole crowd stood on the beach |
| 13:3 |
And he told them many things in parables saying: Listen A sower went out to sow |
| 13:4 |
And as he sowed some seeds fell alongon the path and the birds came and devouredate them up |
| 13:5 |
Other seeds fell on rocky ground where they haddid not have much soil and immediately they sprang up quickly since they had no depth of soil |
| 13:6 |
butBut when the sun rose they were scorched; and since they had no root they withered away |
| 13:7 |
Other seeds fell uponamong thorns and the thorns grew up and choked them |
| 13:9 |
HeLet whoanyone haswith ears let him hearlisten |
| 13:10 |
Then the disciples came and saidasked to him Why do you speak to them in parables |
| 13:11 |
AndHe he answered them To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven but to them it has not been given |
| 13:12 |
For to himthose who hashave more will more be given and hethey will have an abundance; but from himthose who hashave notnothing even what hethey hashave will be taken away |
| 13:13 |
ThisThe isreason why I speak to them in parables becauseis that seeing they do not seeperceive and hearing they do not hearlisten nor do they understand |
| 13:14 |
With them indeed is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah whichthat says: You shallwill indeed hearlisten but never understand and you shallwill indeed seelook but never perceive |
| 13:15 |
For this peoples heart has grown dull and their ears are heavyhard of hearing and they have shut their eyes; theyso havethat closedthey lestmight theynot shouldlook perceive with their eyes and hearlisten with their ears and understand with their heart and turn— forand meI towould heal them |
| 13:17 |
Truly I saytell to you many prophets and righteous menpeople longed to see what you see andbut did not see it and to hear what you hear andbut did not hear it |
| 13:19 |
When anyanyone one hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in histhe heart; this is what was sown alongon the path |
| 13:20 |
As for what was sown on rocky ground this is hethe one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; |
| 13:21 |
yet hesuch a person has no root in himself but endures only for a while and when tribulationtrouble or persecution arises on account of the word that person immediately he falls away |
| 13:22 |
As for what was sown among thorns this is hethe one who hears the word but the cares of the world and the delightlure inof richeswealth choke the word and it provesyields unfruitfulnothing |
| 13:23 |
AsBut as for what was sown on good soil this is hethe one who hears the word and understands it; hewho indeed bears fruit and yields in one case a hundredfold in another sixty and in another thirty |
| 13:24 |
AnotherHe parable he put before them sayinganother parable: The kingdom of heaven may be compared to asomeone man who sowed good seed in his field; |
| 13:25 |
but while meneverybody werewas sleepingasleep hisan enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and then went away |
| 13:26 |
So when the plants came up and bore grain then the weeds appeared alsoas well |
| 13:27 |
And the servantsslaves of the householder came and said to him SirMaster did you not sow good seed in your field HowWhere then hasdid itthese weeds come from |
| 13:28 |
He saidanswered to them An enemy has done this The servantsslaves said to him Then do you want us to go and gather them |
| 13:29 |
But he saidreplied No; lestfor in gathering the weeds you rootwould upuproot the wheat along with them |
| 13:30 |
Let both of them grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will tell the reapers GatherCollect the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned but gather the wheat into my barn |
| 13:31 |
AnotherHe parable he put before them sayinganother parable: The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed whichthat asomeone man took and sowed in his field; |
| 13:32 |
it is the smallest of all the seeds but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches |
| 13:33 |
He told them another parable: The kingdom of heaven is like leavenyeast whichthat a woman took and hidmixed in with three measures of flour tilluntil all of it was all leavened |
| 13:34 |
All this Jesus saidtold to the crowds all these things in parables; indeedwithout hea saidparable nothinghe totold them withoutnothing a parable |
| 13:35 |
This was to fulfilfulfill what washad been spoken bythrough the prophet: I will open my mouth to speak in parables; I will utterproclaim what has been hidden sincefrom the foundation of the world |
| 13:36 |
Then he left the crowds and went into the house And his disciples cameapproached to him saying Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field |
| 13:37 |
He answered HeThe one who sows the good seed is the Son of manMan; |
| 13:38 |
the field is the world and the good seed meansare the sonschildren of the kingdom; the weeds are the sonschildren of the evil one |
| 13:39 |
and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the closeend of the age and the reapers are angels |
| 13:40 |
Just as the weeds are gatheredcollected and burned up with fire so will it be at the closeend of the age |
| 13:41 |
The Son of manMan will send his angels and they will gathercollect out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers |
| 13:42 |
and they will throw them into the furnace of fire; where there men will weepbe weeping and gnashgnashing theirof teeth |
| 13:43 |
Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father HeLet whoanyone haswith ears let him hearlisten |
| 13:44 |
The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field which asomeone man found and covered uphid; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field |
| 13:45 |
Again the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; |
| 13:46 |
who on finding one pearl of great value he went and sold all that he had and bought it |
| 13:47 |
Again the kingdom of heaven is like a net whichthat was thrown into the sea and gatheredcaught fish of every kind; |
| 13:48 |
when it was full menthey drew it ashore and sat down and sortedput the good into vesselsbaskets but threw awayout the bad |
| 13:49 |
So it will be at the closeend of the age The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous |
| 13:50 |
and throw them into the furnace of fire; where there men will weepbe weeping and gnashgnashing theirof teeth |
| 13:51 |
Have you understood all this They saidanswered to him Yes |
| 13:52 |
And he said to them Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a householderhousehold who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old |
| 13:53 |
AndWhen when Jesus had finished these parables he wentleft awaythat from there place |
| 13:54 |
andHe comingcame to his ownhometown countryand hebegan taughtto themteach the people in their synagogue so that they were astonishedastounded and said Where did this man get this wisdom and these mightydeeds worksof power |
| 13:57 |
And they took offense at him But Jesus said to them AProphets prophetare is not without honor except in histheir own country and in histheir own house |
| 13:58 |
And he did not do many mightydeeds worksof power there because of their unbelief |
| 14:1 |
At that time Herod the tetrarchruler heard reports about the fame of Jesus; |
| 14:2 |
and he said to his servants This is John the Baptist; he has been raised from the dead; thatand isfor whythis reason these powers are at work in him |
| 14:3 |
For Herod had seizedarrested John and bound him and put him in prison foron theaccount sake of Hero′diHerodias as his brother Philips wife; |
| 14:4 |
because John saidhad tobeen telling him It is not lawful for you to have her |
| 14:5 |
AndThough thoughHerod he wanted to put him to death he feared the peoplecrowd because they heldregarded him toas be a prophet |
| 14:6 |
But when Herods birthday came the daughter of Hero′diHerodias as danced before the company and she pleased Herod |
| 14:7 |
so much that he promised withon an oath to givegrant her whatever she might ask |
| 14:9 |
AndThe the king was sorry;grieved butyet becauseout of regard for his oaths and hisfor the guests he commanded it to be given; |
| 14:11 |
andThe his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl andwho she brought it to her mother |
| 14:12 |
AndHis his disciples came and took the body and buried it; andthen they went and told Jesus |
| 14:13 |
Now when Jesus heard this he withdrew from there in a boat to a lonelydeserted place apartby himself But when the crowds heard it they followed him on foot from the towns |
| 14:14 |
AsWhen he went ashore he saw a great throngcrowd; and he had compassion onfor them and healedcured their sick |
| 14:15 |
When it was evening the disciples came to him and said This is a lonelydeserted place and the dayhour is now overlate; send the crowds away toso that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves |
| 14:16 |
Jesus said to them They need not go away; you give them something to eat |
| 14:17 |
They saidreplied to him We have onlynothing here but five loaves here and two fish |
| 14:19 |
Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass; andTaking taking the five loaves and the two fish he looked up to heaven and blessed and broke the loaves and gave thethem loaves to the disciples and the disciples gave them to the crowds |
| 14:20 |
And they all ate and were satisfiedfilled; Andand they took up twelvewhat basketswas fullleft over of the broken pieces lefttwelve overbaskets full |
| 14:22 |
ThenImmediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go beforeon himahead to the other side while he dismissed the crowds |
| 14:23 |
And after he had dismissed the crowds he went up on the mountain by himself to pray When evening came he was there alone |
| 14:24 |
but the boat by this time wasthe manyboat furlongsbattered distantby from the landwaves beatenwas byfar from the waves;land for the wind was against them |
| 14:25 |
And early in the fourthmorning watch of the night he came towalking toward them walking on the sea |
| 14:26 |
But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terrified saying It is a ghost andAnd they cried out forin fear |
| 14:27 |
But immediately heJesus spoke to them sayingand said Take heart it is I; havedo nonot fearbe afraid |
| 14:28 |
And Peter answered him Lord if it is you bidcommand me to come to you on the water |
| 14:29 |
He said Come So Peter got out of the boat andstarted walkedwalking on the water and came totoward Jesus; |
| 14:30 |
butBut when he sawnoticed the strong wind he wasbecame afraidfrightened and beginning to sink he cried out Lord save me |
| 14:31 |
Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him saying to him OYou man of little faith why did you doubt |
| 14:32 |
AndWhen when they got into the boat the wind ceased |
| 14:34 |
AndWhen when they had crossed over they came to land at Gennes′aretGennesaret |
| 14:35 |
AndAfter when the menpeople of that place recognized him they sent roundword tothroughout allthe that region and brought to him all thatwho were sick to him |
| 14:36 |
and besoughtbegged him that they might only touch even the fringe of his garmentcloak; and asall manywho as touched it were made wellhealed |
| 15:2 |
Why do your disciples transgressbreak the tradition of the elders For they do not wash their hands whenbefore they eat |
| 15:3 |
He answered them And why do you transgressbreak the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition |
| 15:4 |
For God commandedsaid Honor your father and your mother and HeWhoever who speaks evil of father or mother letmust him surely die |
| 15:5 |
But you say Ifthat anywhoever one tells his father or his mother WhatWhatever support you wouldmight have gainedhad from me is given to God hethen that person need not honor histhe father |
| 15:6 |
So for the sake of your tradition you havemake made void the word of God |
| 15:7 |
You hypocrites WellIsaiah didprophesied Isaiahrightly prophesyabout of you when he said: |
| 15:8 |
This people honors me with their lips but their hearthearts isare far from me; |
| 15:9 |
in vain do they worship me teaching human precepts as doctrines the precepts of men |
| 15:10 |
AndThen he called the peoplecrowd to him and said to them HearListen and understand: |
| 15:11 |
it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a manperson but it is what comes out of the mouth thisthat defiles a man |
| 15:12 |
Then the disciples cameapproached and said to him Do you know that the Pharisees weretook offendedoffense when they heard thiswhat sayingyou said |
| 15:13 |
He answered Every plant whichthat my heavenly Father has not planted will be rooteduprooted up |
| 15:14 |
Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind And if aone blind manperson leadsguides aanother blind man both will fall into a pit |
| 15:15 |
But Peter said to him Explain thethis parable to us |
| 15:16 |
AndThen he said Are you also still without understanding |
| 15:17 |
Do you not see that whatever goes into the mouth passesenters into the stomach and sogoes passesout oninto the sewer |
| 15:18 |
But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart and this defilesis awhat mandefiles |
| 15:19 |
For out of the heart come evil thoughtsintentions murder adultery fornication theft false witness slander |
| 15:20 |
These are what defile a man;person but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man |
| 15:21 |
And Jesus wentleft awaythat fromplace there and withdrewwent away to the district of Tyre and Sidon |
| 15:22 |
AndJust beholdthen a Canaanite woman from that region came out and criedstarted shouting Have mercy on me O Lord Son of David; my daughter is severelytormented possessed by a demon |
| 15:23 |
But he did not answer her aat wordall And his disciples came and beggedurged him saying Send her away for she iskeeps cryingshouting after us |
| 15:26 |
AndHe he answered It is not fair to take the childrens breadfood and throw it to the dogs |
| 15:28 |
Then Jesus answered her OWoman woman great is your faith BeLet it be done for you as you desirewish And her daughter was healed instantly |
| 15:29 |
AndAfter Jesus wenthad onleft fromthat thereplace andhe passed along the Sea of Galilee Andand he went up on the mountain andwhere he sat down there |
| 15:30 |
AndGreat great crowds came to him bringing with them the lame the maimed the blind the dumbmute and many others andThey they put them at his feet and he healedcured them |
| 15:31 |
so that the throngcrowd wonderedwas amazed when they saw the dumbmute speaking the maimed whole the lame walking and the blind seeing; andAnd they glorifiedpraised the God of Israel |
| 15:32 |
Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said I have compassion onfor the crowd because they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat; and I amdo unwillingnot want to send them away hungry lestfor they might faint on the way |
| 15:33 |
AndThe the disciples said to him Where are we to get enough bread enough in the desert to feed so great a crowd |
| 15:34 |
And Jesus saidasked to them How many loaves have you They said Seven and a few small fish |
| 15:35 |
AndThen commandingordering the crowd to sit down on the ground |
| 15:36 |
he took the seven loaves and the fish; and havingafter givengiving thanks he broke them and gave them to the disciples and the disciples gave them to the crowds |
| 15:37 |
And they all of them ate and were satisfiedfilled; and they took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces left over seven baskets full |
| 15:38 |
Those who atehad eaten were four thousand men besides women and children |
| 15:39 |
AndAfter sending away the crowds he got into the boat and went to the region of Mag′adanMagadan |
| 16:1 |
AndThe the Pharisees and Sad′duceesSadducees came and to test himJesus they asked him to show them a sign from heaven |
| 16:2 |
He answered them When it is evening you say It will be fair weather; for the sky is red |
| 16:4 |
An evil and adulterous generation seeksasks for a sign but no sign shallwill be given to it except the sign of Jonah SoThen he left them and departedwent away |
| 16:6 |
Jesus said to them TakeWatch heedout and beware of the leavenyeast of the Pharisees and Sad′duceesSadducees |
| 16:7 |
AndThey theysaid discussedto itone amonganother themselvesIt sayingis Webecause we have brought no bread |
| 16:8 |
ButAnd Jesusbecoming aware of thisit Jesus said OYou men of little faith why doare you discusstalking amongabout yourselveshaving the fact that you have no bread |
| 16:9 |
Do you still not yet perceive Do you not remember the five loaves offor the five thousand and how many baskets you gathered |
| 16:10 |
Or the seven loaves offor the four thousand and how many baskets you gathered |
| 16:11 |
How iscould it that you fail to perceive that I didwas not speakspeaking about bread Beware of the leavenyeast of the Pharisees and Sad′duceesSadducees |
| 16:12 |
Then they understood that he didhad not telltold them to beware of the leavenyeast of bread but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sad′duceesSadducees |
| 16:13 |
Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesare′aCaesarea Philippi he asked his disciples Who do menpeople say that the Son of manMan is |
| 16:14 |
And they said Some say John the Baptist but others sayElijah Eli′jah and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets |
| 16:16 |
Simon Peter repliedanswered You are the ChristMessiah the Son of the living God |
| 16:17 |
And Jesus answered him Blessed are you Simon Barson Jonaof Jonah For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you but my Father who is in heaven |
| 16:18 |
And I tell you you are Peter and on this rock I will build my church and the powersgates of deathHades shallwill not prevail against it |
| 16:19 |
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven and whatever you bind on earth shallwill be bound in heaven and whatever you loose on earth shallwill be loosed in heaven |
| 16:20 |
Then he strictlysternly chargedordered the disciples not to tell noanyone one that he was the ChristMessiah |
| 16:21 |
From that time on Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and sufferundergo manygreat thingssuffering fromat the hands of the elders and chief priests and scribes and be killed and on the third day be raised |
| 16:22 |
And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him saying God forbid it Lord This shallmust never happen to you |
| 16:23 |
But he turned and said to Peter Get behind me Satan You are a hindrancestumbling block to me; for you are setting your mind not on thedivine sidethings ofbut Godon buthuman of menthings |
| 16:24 |
Then Jesus told his disciples If any manwant wouldto comebecome aftermy mefollowers let himthem deny himselfthemselves and take up histheir cross and follow me |
| 16:25 |
For whoeverthose wouldwho want to save histheir life will lose it and whoeverthose loseswho hislose their life for my sake will find it |
| 16:26 |
For what will it profit athem man if hethey gainsgain the whole world andbut forfeitsforfeit histheir life Or what shallwill athey man give in return for histheir life |
| 16:27 |
For the Son of manMan is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father and then he will repay everyeveryone man for what he has been done |
| 16:28 |
Truly I saytell to you there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of manMan coming in his kingdom |
| 17:1 |
AndSix afterdays sixlater days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John his brother John and led them up a high mountain apartby themselves |
| 17:2 |
And he was transfigured before them and his face shone like the sun and his garmentsclothes became dazzling white as light |
| 17:3 |
AndSuddenly behold there appeared to them Moses and Eli′jahElijah talking with him |
| 17:4 |
AndThen Peter said to Jesus Lord it is wellgood thatfor weus areto be here; if you wish I will make three boothsdwellings here one for you and one for Moses and one for Eli′jahElijah |
| 17:5 |
HeWhile he was still speaking whensuddenly lo a bright cloud overshadowed them and a voice from the cloud a voice said This is my beloved Son the Beloved; with whomhim I am well pleased; listen to him |
| 17:6 |
When the disciples heard this they fell onto theirthe facesground and were filledovercome withby awefear |
| 17:7 |
But Jesus came and touched them saying RiseGet up and havedo nonot fearbe afraid |
| 17:8 |
And when they liftedlooked up their eyes they saw no one butexcept Jesus onlyhimself alone |
| 17:9 |
AndAs as they were coming down the mountain Jesus commandedordered them Tell no one about the vision until after the Son of manMan ishas been raised from the dead |
| 17:10 |
And the disciples asked him ThenWhy whythen do the scribes say that firstElijah Eli′jah must come first |
| 17:11 |
He replied Eli′jahElijah doesis comeindeed coming and hewill is to restore all things; |
| 17:12 |
but I tell you that Eli′jahElijah has already come and they did not knowrecognize him but they did to him whatever they pleased So also the Son of manMan willis about to suffer at their hands |
| 17:13 |
Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them ofabout John the Baptist |
| 17:14 |
AndWhen when they came to the crowd a man came up to him andknelt kneeling before him said |
| 17:15 |
and said Lord have mercy on my son for he is an epileptic and he suffers terribly; forhe often he falls into the fire and often into the water |
| 17:16 |
And I brought him to your disciples andbut they could not healcure him |
| 17:17 |
And Jesus answered OYou faithless and perverse generation how longmuch amlonger must I to be with you How longmuch amlonger must I toput bearup with you Bring him here to me |
| 17:18 |
And Jesus rebuked himthe demon and theit demon came out of him and the boy was cured instantly |
| 17:20 |
He said to them Because of your little faith For truly I saytell to you if you have faith asthe asize grain of a mustard seed you will say to this mountain Move from here to there and it will move; and nothing will be impossible tofor you |
| 17:22 |
As they were gathering in Galilee Jesus said to them The Son of manMan is going to be deliveredbetrayed into thehuman hands of men |
| 17:23 |
and they will kill him and on the third day he will be raised on the third day And they were greatly distressed |
| 17:24 |
When they camereached toCapernaum Caper′na um the collectors of the halftemple shekel tax wentcame up to Peter and said Does not your teacher not pay the temple tax |
| 17:25 |
He said Yes he does And when he came home Jesus spoke toof himit first sayingasking What do you think Simon From whom do kings of the earth take toll or tribute From their sonschildren or from others |
| 17:26 |
AndWhen whenPeter he said From others Jesus said to him Then the sonschildren are free |
| 17:27 |
However so that we do not to give offense to them go to the sea and cast a hook; and take the first fish that comes up; and when you open its mouth you will find a shekelcoin; take that and give it to them for meyou and for yourselfme |
| 18:1 |
At that time the disciples came to Jesus sayingand asked Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven |
| 18:2 |
AndHe callingcalled to him a child whom he put himamong in the midst of them |
| 18:3 |
and said Truly I saytell to you unless you turnchange and become like children you will never enter the kingdom of heaven |
| 18:4 |
Whoever humblesbecomes himselfhumble like this child he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven |
| 18:5 |
Whoever receiveswelcomes one such child in my name receiveswelcomes me; |
| 18:6 |
butIf whoeverany causesof you put a stumbling block before one of these little ones who believe in me to sin it would be better for himyou toif have a great millstone were fastened roundaround hisyour neck and toyou bewere drowned in the depth of the sea |
| 18:7 |
Woe to the world forbecause temptationsof tostumbling sinblocks ForOccasions itfor isstumbling necessaryare thatbound temptationsto come but woe to the manone by whom the temptationstumbling block comes |
| 18:8 |
AndIf if your hand or your foot causes you to sinstumble cut it off and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life maimed or lame than withto have two hands or two feet and to be thrown into the eternal fire |
| 18:9 |
And if your eye causes you to sinstumble plucktear it out and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life with one eye than withto have two eyes and to be thrown into the hell of fire |
| 18:10 |
SeeTake care that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels alwayscontinually beholdsee the face of my Father who is in heaven |
| 18:12 |
What do you think If a manshepherd has a hundred sheep and one of them has gone astray does he not leave the ninety nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray |
| 18:13 |
And if he finds it truly I saytell to you he rejoices over it more than over the ninety nine that never went astray |
| 18:14 |
So it is not the will of myyour Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perishbe lost |
| 18:15 |
If youranother brothermember of the church sins against you go and tellpoint himout histhe fault betweenwhen the two of you andare him alone If hethe member listens to you you have gainedregained yourthat brotherone |
| 18:16 |
But if heyou doesare not listenlistened to take one or two others along with you so that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses |
| 18:17 |
If hethe member refuses to listen to them tell it to the church; and if hethe offender refuses to listen even to the church let himsuch a one be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector |
| 18:18 |
Truly I saytell to you whatever you bind on earth shallwill be bound in heaven and whatever you loose on earth shallwill be loosed in heaven |
| 18:19 |
Again truly I saytell to you if two of you agree on earth about anything theyyou ask it will be done for themyou by my Father in heaven |
| 18:20 |
For where two or three are gathered in my name thereI am Ithere inamong the midst of them |
| 18:21 |
Then Peter came up and said to him Lord howif oftenanother shallmember myof brotherthe sinchurch sins against me andhow often should I forgive him As many as seven times |
| 18:22 |
Jesus said to him INot doseven nottimes saybut toI tell you seventy seven times but seventy times seven |
| 18:23 |
ThereforeFor this reason the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servantsslaves |
| 18:24 |
When he began the reckoning one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents was brought to him; |
| 18:25 |
and as he could not pay his lord ordered him to be sold together with his wife and children and all thathis hepossessions had and payment to be made |
| 18:26 |
So the servantslave fell on his knees imploringbefore him Lordsaying haveHave patience with me and I will pay you everything |
| 18:27 |
And out of pity for him the lord of that servantslave released him and forgave him the debt |
| 18:28 |
But that same servantslave as he went out came upon one of his fellow servantsslaves who owed him a hundred denarii; and seizing him by the throat he said Pay what you owe |
| 18:29 |
SoThen his fellow servantslave fell down and besoughtpleaded with him Have patience with me and I will pay you |
| 18:30 |
HeBut he refused; andthen he went and putthrew him ininto prison tilluntil he shouldwould pay the debt |
| 18:31 |
When his fellow servantsslaves saw what had takenhappened place they were greatly distressed and they went and reported to their lord all that had taken place |
| 18:32 |
Then his lord summoned him and said to him You wicked servantslave I forgave you all that debt because you besoughtpleaded with me; |
| 18:33 |
andShould shouldyou not you have had mercy on your fellow servantslave as I had mercy on you |
| 18:34 |
And in anger his lord deliveredhanded him over to thebe jailerstortured tilluntil he shouldwould pay all his entire debt |
| 18:35 |
So also my heavenly Father will also do to every one of you if you do not forgive your brother or sister from your heart |
| 19:1 |
NowWhen when Jesus had finished saying these sayingsthings he wentleft away from Galilee and enteredwent to the region of Judea beyond the Jordan; |
| 19:2 |
andLarge large crowds followed him and he healedcured them there |
| 19:3 |
AndSome Pharisees came up to him and testedto test him bythey askingasked Is it lawful for a man to divorce oneshis wife for any cause |
| 19:4 |
He answered Have you not read that hethe one who made them fromat the beginning made them male and female |
| 19:6 |
So they are no longer two but one flesh WhatTherefore thereforewhat God has joined together let notno manone putseparate asunder |
| 19:7 |
They said to him Why then did Moses command oneus to give a certificate of divorcedismissal and to putdivorce her away |
| 19:8 |
He said to them ForIt yourwas hardnessbecause ofyou heartwere so hard hearted that Moses allowed you to divorce your wives but from the beginning it was not so |
| 19:9 |
And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife except for unchastity and marries another commits adultery |
| 19:10 |
TheHis disciples said to him If such is the case of a man with his wife it is better not expedient to marry |
| 19:11 |
But he said to them Not alleveryone men can receiveaccept this sayingteaching but only those to whom it is given |
| 19:12 |
For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by menothers and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven HeLet whoanyone isaccept able to receive this letwho him receive itcan |
| 19:13 |
Then little children were being brought to him in order that he might lay his hands on them and pray The disciples rebukedspoke thesternly peopleto those who brought them; |
| 19:14 |
but Jesus said Let the little children come to me and do not hinderstop them; for it is to such belongsas these that the kingdom of heaven belongs |
| 19:15 |
And he laid his hands on them and went awayon his way |
| 19:16 |
AndThen beholdsomeone one came up to him sayingand said Teacher what good deed must I do to have eternal life |
| 19:17 |
And he said to him Why do you ask me about what is good OneThere there is only one who is good If you wouldwish to enter into life keep the commandments |
| 19:18 |
He said to him Which ones And Jesus said You shall not killmurder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; |
| 19:19 |
Honor your father and mother; andalso You shall love your neighbor as yourself |
| 19:20 |
The young man said to him All these I have observedkept all these; what do I still lack |
| 19:21 |
Jesus said to him If you wouldwish to be perfect go sell whatyour youpossessions possess and give the money to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; andthen come follow me |
| 19:22 |
When the young man heard this word he went away sorrowful;grieving for he had greatmany possessions |
| 19:23 |
AndThen Jesus said to his disciples Truly I saytell to you it will be hard for a rich manperson to enter the kingdom of heaven |
| 19:24 |
Again I tell you it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for asomeone who is rich man to enter the kingdom of God |
| 19:25 |
When the disciples heard this they were greatly astonishedastounded sayingand Whosaid thenThen who can be saved |
| 19:26 |
But Jesus looked at them and said toFor themmortals Withit men this is impossible but withfor God all things are possible |
| 19:27 |
Then Peter said in reply LoLook we have left everything and followed you What then shallwill we have |
| 19:28 |
Jesus said to them Truly I saytell to you inat the newrenewal worldof all things when the Son of manMan shallis sitseated on the throne of his gloriousglory throne you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel |
| 19:29 |
And everyeveryone one who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or landsfields for my names sake will receive a hundredfold and will inherit eternal life |
| 19:30 |
But many thatwho are first will be last and the last will be first |
| 20:1 |
For the kingdom of heaven is like a householderlandowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard |
| 20:2 |
After agreeing with the laborers for athe denariususual adaily daywage he sent them into his vineyard |
| 20:3 |
AndWhen goinghe went out about thenine thirdoclock hour he saw others standing idle in the market placemarketplace; |
| 20:4 |
and he said to them heYou saidalso You go into the vineyard too and whatever is right I will givepay you whatever is right So they went |
| 20:5 |
GoingWhen he went out again about thenoon sixth hour and theabout ninththree houroclock he did the same |
| 20:6 |
And about thefive eleventhoclock hour he went out and found others standing around; and he said to them Why doare you standstanding here idle all day |
| 20:7 |
They said to him Because no one has hired us He said to them You also go into the vineyard too |
| 20:8 |
AndWhen when evening came the owner of the vineyard said to his stewardmanager Call the laborers and paygive them their wagespay beginning with the last upand then going to the first |
| 20:9 |
AndWhen when those hired about thefive eleventhoclock hour came each of them received athe denariususual daily wage |
| 20:10 |
Now when the first came they thought they would receive more; but each of them also received athe denariususual daily wage |
| 20:11 |
And onwhen receivingthey received it they grumbled atagainst the householderlandowner |
| 20:13 |
But he replied to one of them Friend I am doing you no wrong; did you not agree with me for athe denariususual daily wage |
| 20:14 |
Take what belongs to you and go; I choose to give to this last the same as I give to you |
| 20:15 |
Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me Or doare you begrudgeenvious mybecause generosityI am generous |
| 20:16 |
So the last will be first and the first will be last |
| 20:17 |
AndWhile as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem he took the twelve disciples aside andby onthemselves theand way he said to them on the way |
| 20:18 |
BeholdSee we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of manMan will be deliveredhanded over to the chief priests and scribes and they will condemn him to death; |
| 20:19 |
andthen deliverthey will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourgedflogged and crucified; and on the third day he will be raised on the third day |
| 20:20 |
Then the mother of the sons of Zeb′edeeZebedee came up to him with her sons and kneeling before him she asked hima forfavor somethingof him |
| 20:21 |
And he said to her What do you want She said to him CommandDeclare that these two sons of mine maywill sit one at your right hand and one at your left in your kingdom |
| 20:22 |
But Jesus answered You do not know what you are asking Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink They said to him We are able |
| 20:23 |
He said to them You will indeed drink my cup but to sit at my right hand and at my left this is not mine to grant but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father |
| 20:24 |
AndWhen when the ten heard it they were indignantangry atwith the two brothers |
| 20:25 |
But Jesus called them to him and said You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them and their great menones exerciseare authoritytyrants over them |
| 20:26 |
It shallwill not be so among you; but whoever wouldwishes to be great among you must be your servant |
| 20:27 |
and whoever wouldwishes to be first among you must be your slave; |
| 20:28 |
evenjust as the Son of manMan came not to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many |
| 20:29 |
AndAs as they wentwere outleaving of Jericho a greatlarge crowd followed him |
| 20:30 |
AndThere beholdwere two blind men sitting by the roadside whenWhen they heard that Jesus was passing by criedthey outshouted HaveLord have mercy on us Son of David |
| 20:31 |
The crowd rebukedsternly themordered telling them to be silentquiet; but they criedshouted outeven the more Lordloudly haveHave mercy on us Lord Son of David |
| 20:32 |
And Jesus stoppedstood still and called them saying What do you want me to do for you |
| 20:34 |
AndMoved Jesuswith incompassion pityJesus touched their eyes andImmediately immediately they receivedregained their sight and followed him |
| 21:1 |
AndWhen when they drewhad come near to Jerusalem and camehad toreached Beth′phageBethphage toat the Mount of Olives then Jesus sent two disciples |
| 21:2 |
saying to them Go into the village oppositeahead of you and immediately you will find ana assdonkey tied and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to me |
| 21:3 |
If anyanyone one says anything to you youjust shall say this The Lord hasneeds need of them andAnd he will send them immediately |
| 21:4 |
This took place to fulfilfulfill what washad been spoken bythrough the prophet saying |
| 21:5 |
Tell the daughter of Zion BeholdLook your king is coming to you humble and mounted on ana assdonkey and on a colt the foal of ana assdonkey |
| 21:7 |
they brought the assdonkey and the colt and put their garmentscloaks on them and he sat thereonon them |
| 21:8 |
MostA ofvery thelarge crowd spread their garmentscloaks on the road and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road |
| 21:9 |
AndThe the crowds that went beforeahead of him and that followed himwere shoutedshouting Hosanna to the Son of David Blessed is hethe one who comes in the name of the Lord Hosanna in the highest heaven |
| 21:10 |
AndWhen when he entered Jerusalem all the whole city was stirredin sayingturmoil asking Who is this |
| 21:11 |
AndThe the crowds saidwere saying This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth ofin Galilee |
| 21:12 |
AndThen Jesus entered the temple of God and drove out all who soldwere selling and boughtbuying in the temple and he overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold pigeonsdoves |
| 21:13 |
He said to them It is written My house shall be called a house of prayer; but you makeare making it a den of robbers |
| 21:14 |
AndThe the blind and the lame came to him in the temple and he healedcured them |
| 21:15 |
But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderfulamazing things that he did and heard the children crying out in the temple Hosanna to the Son of David they werebecame indignant;angry |
| 21:16 |
and they said to him Do you hear what these are saying And Jesus said to them Yes; have you never read Out of the mouthmouths of babesinfants and sucklingsnursing thoubabies hastyou broughthave perfectprepared praise for yourself |
| 21:17 |
AndHe leavingleft them he went out of the city to Bethany and lodgedspent the night there |
| 21:18 |
In the morning aswhen he wasreturned returning to the city he was hungry |
| 21:19 |
And seeing a fig tree by the waysideside of the road he went to it and found nothing at all on it but leaves onlyThen And he said to it May no fruit ever come from you again And the fig tree withered at once |
| 21:20 |
When the disciples saw it they marveledwere amazed saying How did the fig tree wither at once |
| 21:21 |
And Jesus answered them Truly I saytell to you if you have faith and neverdo not doubt younot only will notyou only do what has been done to the fig tree but even if you say to this mountain Be takenlifted up and castthrown into the sea it will be done |
| 21:22 |
AndWhatever whatever you ask for in prayer with faith you will receive if you have faith |
| 21:23 |
AndWhen when he entered the temple the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching and said By what authority are you doing these things and who gave you this authority |
| 21:24 |
Jesus answeredsaid to them I will also will ask you aone question; and if you tell me the answer then I will also will tell you by what authority I do these things |
| 21:25 |
TheDid the baptism of John whencecome from heaven or was it Fromof heavenhuman ororigin from men And they argued with one another If we say From heaven he will say to us Why then did you not believe him |
| 21:26 |
But if we say FromOf menhuman origin we are afraid of the multitudecrowd; for all holdregard that John wasas a prophet |
| 21:27 |
So they answered Jesus We do not know And he said to them Neither will I tell you by what authority I doam doing these things |
| 21:28 |
What do you think A man had two sons; and he went to the first and said Son go and work in the vineyard today |
| 21:29 |
AndHe he answered I will not; but afterwardlater he repentedchanged his mind and went |
| 21:30 |
AndThe hefather went to the second and said the same; and he answered I go sir; but he did not go |
| 21:31 |
Which of the two did the will of his father They said The first Jesus said to them Truly I saytell to you the tax collectors and the harlotsprostitutes goare going into the kingdom of God beforeahead of you |
| 21:32 |
For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him but the tax collectors and the harlotsprostitutes believed him; and even whenafter you saw it you did not afterwardchange repentyour minds and believe him |
| 21:33 |
HearListen to another parable There was a householderlandowner who planted a vineyard andput set a hedgefence around it and dug a wine press in it and built a towerwatchtower andThen lethe leased it out to tenants and went intoto another country |
| 21:34 |
When the seasonharvest oftime fruithad drewcome near he sent his servantsslaves to the tenants to getcollect his fruit;produce |
| 21:35 |
andBut the tenants tookseized his servantsslaves and beat one killed another and stoned another |
| 21:36 |
Again he sent other servantsslaves more than the first; and they didtreated them in the same toway them |
| 21:37 |
AfterwardFinally he sent his son to them saying They will respect my son |
| 21:38 |
But when the tenants saw the son they said to themselves This is the heir; come let us kill him and haveget his inheritance |
| 21:39 |
AndSo they tookseized him andthrew cast him out of the vineyard and killed him |
| 21:40 |
WhenNow thereforewhen the owner of the vineyard comes what will he do to those tenants |
| 21:41 |
They said to him He will put those wretches to a miserable death and letlease out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruitsproduce inat theirthe seasonsharvest time |
| 21:42 |
Jesus said to them Have you never read in the scriptures: The very stone whichthat the builders rejected has become the head of the cornercornerstone; this was the Lords doing and it is marvelousamazing in our eyes |
| 21:43 |
Therefore I tell you the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nationpeople producingthat produces the fruits of itthe kingdom |
| 21:45 |
When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables they perceivedrealized that he was speaking about them |
| 21:46 |
ButThey whenwanted they tried to arrest him but they feared the multitudescrowds because they heldregarded him toas be a prophet |
| 22:1 |
AndOnce againmore Jesus spoke to them in parables saying: |
| 22:2 |
The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a marriagewedding feastbanquet for his son |
| 22:3 |
andHe sent his servantsslaves to call those who werehad been invited to the marriagewedding feast;banquet but they would not come |
| 22:4 |
Again he sent other servantsslaves saying Tell those who arehave been invited: BeholdLook I have madeprepared ready my dinner my oxen and my fat calves arehave killedbeen slaughtered and everything is ready; come to the marriagewedding feastbanquet |
| 22:5 |
But they made light of it and went offaway one to his farm another to his business |
| 22:6 |
while the rest seized his servantsslaves treatedmistreated them shamefully and killed them |
| 22:7 |
The king was angryenraged andHe he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burned their city |
| 22:8 |
Then he said to his servantsslaves The wedding is ready but those invited were not worthy |
| 22:9 |
Go therefore tointo the thoroughfaresmain streets and invite toeveryone theyou marriagefind feastto asthe manywedding asbanquet you find |
| 22:10 |
AndThose thoseslaves servants went out into the streets and gathered all whom they found both badgood and goodbad; so the wedding hall was filled with guests |
| 22:11 |
But when the king came in to looksee at the guests he sawnoticed there a man there who hadwas nonot wearing a wedding garment;robe |
| 22:12 |
and he said to him Friend how did you get in here without a wedding garmentrobe And he was speechless |
| 22:13 |
Then the king said to the attendants Bind him hand and foot and castthrow him into the outer darkness; where there men will weepbe weeping and gnashgnashing theirof teeth |
| 22:15 |
Then the Pharisees went and tookplotted counsel how to entangleentrap him in hiswhat talkhe said |
| 22:16 |
AndSo they sent their disciples to him along with the Hero′diHerodians ans saying Teacher we know that you are truesincere and teach the way of God truthfullyin accordance with truth and careshow fordeference to no manone; for you do not regard thepeople positionwith ofpartiality men |
| 22:17 |
Tell us then what you think Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesarthe emperor or not |
| 22:18 |
But Jesus aware of their malice said Why putare you putting me to the test you hypocrites |
| 22:19 |
Show me the moneycoin used for the tax And they brought him a coindenarius |
| 22:20 |
AndThen Jesushe said to them Whose likenesshead is this and inscriptionwhose istitle this |
| 22:21 |
They saidanswered CaesarsThe emperors Then he said to them RenderGive therefore to Caesarthe emperor the things that are Caesarsthe emperors and to God the things that are Gods |
| 22:22 |
When they heard itthis they marveledwere amazed; and they left him and went away |
| 22:23 |
The same day Sad′duceessome Sadducees came to him whosaying say that there is no resurrection; and they asked him a question saying |
| 22:24 |
saying Teacher Moses said If a man dies havingchildless no children his brother mustshall marry the widow and raise up children for his brother |
| 22:25 |
Now there were seven brothers among us; the first married and died andchildless havingleaving nothe childrenwidow left his wife to his brother |
| 22:26 |
SoThe toosecond did the secondsame andso also the third down to the seventh |
| 22:27 |
AfterLast themof all the woman herself died |
| 22:28 |
In the resurrection thereforethen towhose whichwife of the seven will she be wife For they all of them had married her |
| 22:29 |
But Jesus answered them You are wrong because you know neither the scriptures nor the power of God |
| 22:32 |
I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob He is God not God of the dead but of the living |
| 22:33 |
And when the crowd heard it they were astonishedastounded at his teaching |
| 22:34 |
ButWhen when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sad′duceesSadducees they camegathered together |
| 22:35 |
Andand one of them a lawyer asked him a question to test him |
| 22:36 |
Teacher which is the great commandment in the law is the greatest |
| 22:37 |
AndHe he said to him You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind |
| 22:38 |
This is the greatgreatest and first commandment |
| 22:39 |
And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself |
| 22:40 |
On these two commandments dependhang all the law and the prophets |
| 22:41 |
Now while the Pharisees were gathered together Jesus asked them athis question: |
| 22:42 |
saying What do you think of the ChristMessiah Whose son is he They said to him The son of David |
| 22:43 |
He said to them How is it then that David inspired by the Spirit calls him Lord saying |
| 22:44 |
The Lord said to my Lord Sit at my right hand tilluntil I put thyyour enemies under thyyour feet |
| 22:45 |
If David thus calls him Lord how iscan he be his son |
| 22:46 |
AndNo no one was able to answergive him aan wordanswer nor from that day did anyanyone one dare to ask him any more questions |
| 23:1 |
Then Jesus said Jesus to the crowds and to his disciples |
| 23:3 |
sotherefore practicedo and observe whatever they tellteach you and follow it; but do not whatdo as they do; for they preach but do not practice what they teach |
| 23:4 |
They bindtie up heavy burdens hard to bear and lay them on mensthe shoulders of others; but they themselves willare notunwilling moveto themlift witha their finger to move them |
| 23:5 |
They do all their deeds to be seen by menothers; for they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long |
| 23:6 |
andThey they love to have the place of honor at feastsbanquets and the best seats in the synagogues |
| 23:7 |
and salutationsto be greeted with respect in the marketmarketplaces places and beingto calledhave rabbipeople bycall menthem rabbi |
| 23:8 |
But you are not to be called rabbi for you have one teacher and you are all brethrenstudents |
| 23:9 |
And call no manone your father on earth for you have one Father—the whoone is in heaven |
| 23:10 |
NeitherNor are you to be called mastersinstructors for you have one masterinstructor the ChristMessiah |
| 23:11 |
HeThe who is greatest among you shallwill be your servant; |
| 23:12 |
whoeverAll exaltswho himselfexalt themselves will be humbled and whoeverall humbleswho himselfhumble themselves will be exalted |
| 23:13 |
But woe to you scribes and Pharisees hypocrites becauseFor you shutlock people out of the kingdom of heaven againstFor men;you fordo younot neithergo enterin yourselves norand allowwhen thoseothers whoare wouldgoing enterin toyou gostop inthem |
| 23:15 |
Woe to you scribes and Pharisees hypocrites forFor you traversecross sea and land to make a single proselyteconvert and whenyou hemake becomesthe anew proselyteconvert you make him twice as much a child of hell as yourselves |
| 23:16 |
Woe to you blind guides who say IfWhoever any one swears by the templesanctuary it is bound by nothing; but ifwhoever any one swears by the gold of the templesanctuary he is bound by histhe oath |
| 23:17 |
You blind fools For which is greater the gold or the templesanctuary that has made the gold sacred |
| 23:18 |
And you say IfWhoever any one swears by the altar it is bound by nothing; but ifwhoever any one swears by the gift that is on the altar he is bound by histhe oath |
| 23:19 |
YouHow blind menyou are For which is greater the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred |
| 23:20 |
So hewhoever who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it; |
| 23:21 |
and hewhoever who swears by the templesanctuary swears by it and by himthe one who dwells in it; |
| 23:22 |
and hewhoever who swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by himthe one who sitsis seated upon it |
| 23:23 |
Woe to you scribes and Pharisees hypocrites forFor you tithe mint and dill and cummin and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith; It is these you ought to have donepracticed without neglecting the others |
| 23:24 |
You blind guides strainingYou strain out a gnat andbut swallowingswallow a camel |
| 23:25 |
Woe to you scribes and Pharisees hypocrites forFor you cleanseclean the outside of the cup and of the plate but inside they are full of extortiongreed and rapacityself indulgence |
| 23:26 |
You blind Pharisee firstFirst cleanseclean the inside of the cup andso of the plate that the outside also may bebecome clean |
| 23:27 |
Woe to you scribes and Pharisees hypocrites forFor you are like whitewashed tombs which outwardlyon appearthe outside look beautiful but withininside they are full of deadthe mens bones of the dead and of all uncleannesskinds of filth |
| 23:28 |
So you also outwardlyon appearthe outside look righteous to menothers but withininside you are full of hypocrisy and iniquitylawlessness |
| 23:29 |
Woe to you scribes and Pharisees hypocrites forFor you build the tombs of the prophets and adorndecorate the monumentsgraves of the righteous |
| 23:30 |
sayingand you say If we had lived in the days of our fathersancestors we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets |
| 23:31 |
Thus you witnesstestify against yourselves that you are sonsdescendants of those who murdered the prophets |
| 23:32 |
Fill up then the measure of your fathersancestors |
| 23:33 |
You serpentssnakes you brood of vipers howHow arecan you to escape being sentenced to hell |
| 23:34 |
Therefore I send you prophets andsages wise men and scribes some of whom you will kill and crucify and some you will scourgeflog in your synagogues and persecutepursue from town to town |
| 23:35 |
so that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth from the blood of innocentrighteous Abel to the blood of Zechari′ahZechariah the son of Barachi′ahBarachiah whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar |
| 23:36 |
Truly I saytell to you all this will come upon this generation |
| 23:37 |
O Jerusalem Jerusalem killingthe city that kills the prophets and stoningstones those who are sent to youit How often wouldhave I havedesired gatheredto gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings and you wouldwere not willing |
| 23:38 |
BeholdSee your house is forsakenleft andto you desolate |
| 23:39 |
For I tell you you will not see me again until you say Blessed is hethe one who comes in the name of the Lord |
| 24:1 |
As Jesus leftcame out of the temple and was going away when his disciples came to point out to him the buildings of the temple |
| 24:2 |
ButThen he answeredasked them You see all these do you not Truly I saytell to you therenot one stone will not be left here one stone upon another; thatall will not be thrown down |
| 24:3 |
AsWhen he satwas sitting on the Mount of Olives the disciples came to him privately saying Tell us when will this be and what will be the sign of your coming and of the closeend of the age |
| 24:4 |
And Jesus answered them TakeBeware heed that no one leads you astray |
| 24:5 |
For many will come in my name saying I am the ChristMessiah and they will lead many astray |
| 24:9 |
Then they will deliverhand you upover to tribulationbe tortured and will put you to death; and you will be hated by all nations forbecause of my namesname sake |
| 24:10 |
AndThen then many will fall away and they will betray one another and hate one another |
| 24:12 |
And because wickednessof isthe multipliedincrease mostof menslawlessness the love of many will grow cold |
| 24:13 |
But hethe one who endures to the end will be saved |
| 24:14 |
And this gospelgood news of the kingdom will be preachedproclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all the nations; and then the end will come |
| 24:15 |
So when you see the desolating sacrilege standing in the holy place as was spoken of by the prophet Daniel standing in the holy place let the reader understand |
| 24:16 |
then let those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains; |
| 24:17 |
letthe himone who is on the housetop must not go down to take what is in histhe house; |
| 24:18 |
andthe letone him who is in the field must not turn back to takeget hisa mantlecoat |
| 24:19 |
AndWoe alasto for those who are withpregnant child and forto those who giveare sucknursing infants in those days |
| 24:21 |
For thenat that time there will be great tribulationsuffering such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now no and never will be |
| 24:22 |
And if those days had not been shortenedcut short no humanone being would be saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortenedcut short |
| 24:23 |
Then if anyanyone one says to you LoLook hereHere is the ChristMessiah or There he is —do not believe it |
| 24:24 |
For false Christsmessiahs and false prophets will ariseappear and showproduce great signs and wondersomens so as to lead astray if possible even the elect |
| 24:25 |
LoTake note I have told you beforehand |
| 24:26 |
So if they say to you LoLook heHe is in the wilderness do not go out; ifIf they say LoLook heHe is in the inner rooms do not believe it |
| 24:27 |
For as the lightning comes from the east and shinesflashes as far as the west so will be the coming of the Son of manMan |
| 24:28 |
Wherever the bodycorpse is there the eaglesvultures will be gathered togethergather |
| 24:29 |
Immediately after the tribulationsuffering of those days the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light; and the stars will fall from heaven and the powers of theheaven heavens will be shaken; |
| 24:30 |
thenThen will appear the sign of the Son of manMan will appear in heaven and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn and they will see the Son of manMan coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory; |
| 24:31 |
andAnd he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call and they will gather his elect from the four winds from one end of heaven to the other |
| 24:34 |
Truly I saytell to you this generation will not pass away tilluntil all these things takehave taken place |
| 24:36 |
But ofabout that day and hour no one knows notneither even the angels of heaven nor the Son but only the Father only |
| 24:37 |
AsFor wereas the days of Noah were so will be the coming of the Son of manMan |
| 24:38 |
For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking marrying and giving in marriage until the day when Noah entered the ark |
| 24:39 |
and they didknew notnothing know until the flood came and swept them all away so too will be the coming of the Son of manMan |
| 24:40 |
Then two men will be in the field; one iswill be taken and one iswill be left |
| 24:41 |
Two women will be grinding atmeal the milltogether; one iswill be taken and one iswill be left |
| 24:42 |
WatchKeep awake therefore for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming |
| 24:43 |
But knowunderstand this: that if the householderowner of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming he would have watchedstayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into |
| 24:44 |
Therefore you also must be ready; for the Son of manMan is coming at an unexpected hour you do not expect |
| 24:45 |
Who then is the faithful and wise servantslave whom his master has setput overin charge of his household to give themthe other slaves their allowance of food at the proper time |
| 24:46 |
Blessed is that servantslave whom his master whenwill hefind comesat willwork findwhen sohe doingarrives |
| 24:47 |
Truly I saytell to you he will setput himthat overone in charge of all his possessions |
| 24:48 |
But if that wicked servantslave says to himself My master is delayed |
| 24:49 |
and he begins to beat his fellow servantsslaves and eats and drinks with thedrunkards drunken |
| 24:50 |
the master of that servantslave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour that he does not know |
| 24:51 |
andHe will punishcut him in pieces and put him with the hypocrites; where there men will weepbe weeping and gnashgnashing theirof teeth |
| 25:1 |
Then the kingdom of heaven shallwill be comparedlike tothis tenTen maidensbridesmaids who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom |
| 25:3 |
ForWhen when the foolish took their lamps they took no oil with them; |
| 25:5 |
As the bridegroom was delayed they all slumberedof them became drowsy and slept |
| 25:6 |
But at midnight there was a cryshout BeholdLook Here is the bridegroom Come out to meet him |
| 25:7 |
Then all those maidensbridesmaids rosegot up and trimmed their lamps |
| 25:8 |
AndThe the foolish said to the wise Give us some of your oil for our lamps are going out |
| 25:9 |
But the wise replied PerhapsNo there will not be enough for usyou and for youus; you had better go rather to the dealers and buy some for yourselves |
| 25:10 |
And while they went to buy it the bridegroom came and those who were ready went in with him tointo the marriagewedding feastbanquet; and the door was shut |
| 25:11 |
AfterwardLater the other maidensbridesmaids came also saying Lord lord open to us |
| 25:12 |
But he replied Truly I saytell to you I do not know you |
| 25:13 |
WatchKeep awake therefore for you know neither the day nor the hour |
| 25:14 |
For it willis be as whenif a man going on a journey calledsummoned his servantsslaves and entrusted his property to them his property; |
| 25:16 |
HeThe one who had received the five talents went off at once and traded with them; and he made five more talents more |
| 25:17 |
SoIn alsothe hesame way the one who had the two talents made two more talents more |
| 25:18 |
But hethe one who had received the one talent went off and dug a hole in the ground and hid his masters money |
| 25:19 |
NowAfter after a long time the master of those servantsslaves came and settled accounts with them |
| 25:20 |
AndThen hethe one who had received the five talents came forward bringing five more talents more saying Master you deliveredhanded over to me five talents; heresee I have made five more talents more |
| 25:21 |
His master said to him Well done good and faithfultrustworthy servantslave; you have been faithfultrustworthy overin a littlefew things I will setput you overin muchcharge of many things; enter into the joy of your master |
| 25:22 |
And hethe alsoone whowith had the two talents also came forward saying Master you deliveredhanded over to me two talents; heresee I have made two more talents more |
| 25:23 |
His master said to him Well done good and faithfultrustworthy servantslave; you have been faithfultrustworthy overin a littlefew things I will setput you overin muchcharge of many things; enter into the joy of your master |
| 25:24 |
HeThen alsothe one who had received the one talent also came forward saying Master I knew that you towere be a hardharsh man reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you did not winnowscatter seed; |
| 25:26 |
But his master answeredreplied him You wicked and slothfullazy servantslave You knew did you that I reap where I havedid not sowedsow and gather where I havedid not winnowedscatter |
| 25:27 |
Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers and aton my comingreturn I shouldwould have received what was my own with interest |
| 25:28 |
So take the talent from him and give it to himthe whoone haswith the ten talents |
| 25:29 |
For to everyall onethose who hashave more will more be given and hethey will have an abundance; but from himthose who hashave notnothing even what hethey hashave will be taken away |
| 25:30 |
AndAs castfor thethis worthless servantslave throw him into the outer darkness; where there men will weepbe weeping and gnashgnashing theirof teeth |
| 25:31 |
When the Son of manMan comes in his glory and all the angels with him then he will sit on the throne of his gloriousglory throne |
| 25:32 |
BeforeAll himthe nations will be gathered allbefore thehim nations and he will separate thempeople one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats |
| 25:33 |
and he will placeput the sheep at his right hand butand the goats at the left |
| 25:34 |
Then the Kingking will say to those at his right hand Come Oyou that are blessed ofby my Father inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; |
| 25:35 |

| 25:36 |
I was naked and you clothedgave me clothing I was sick and you visitedtook care of me I was in prison and you camevisited to me |
| 25:37 |
Then the righteous will answer him Lord when didwas it that we seesaw theeyou hungry and feedgave theeyou food or thirsty and givegave theeyou something to drink |
| 25:38 |
And when didwas it that we seesaw theeyou a stranger and welcomewelcomed theeyou or naked and clothegave theeyou clothing |

| 25:45 |
Then he will answer them Truly I saytell to you just as you did not do it not to one of the least of these you did not do it not to me |
| 25:46 |
And theythese will go away into eternal punishment but the righteous into eternal life |
| 26:1 |
When Jesus had finished saying all these sayingsthings he said to his disciples |
| 26:2 |
You know that after two days the Passover is coming and the Son of manMan will be deliveredhanded upover to be crucified |
| 26:3 |
Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in the palace of the high priest who was called Ca′iaphasCaiaphas |
| 26:4 |
and tookthey counselconspired together in order to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him |
| 26:5 |
But they said Not during the feastfestival lestor there may be a tumultriot among the people |
| 26:6 |
Now whenwhile Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper |
| 26:7 |
a woman came up to him with an alabaster flaskjar of very expensivecostly ointment and she poured it on his head as he sat at the table |
| 26:8 |
But when the disciples saw it they were indignantangry sayingand said Why this waste |
| 26:9 |
For this ointment mightcould have been sold for a large sum and the money given to the poor |
| 26:10 |
But Jesus aware of this said to them Why do you trouble the woman ForShe she has doneperformed a beautifulgood thingservice tofor me |
| 26:12 |
InBy pouring this ointment on my body she has doneprepared it to prepare me for burial |
| 26:13 |
Truly I saytell to you wherever this gospelgood news is preachedproclaimed in the whole world what she has done will be told in memoryremembrance of her |
| 26:15 |
and said What will you give me if I deliverbetray him to you AndThey they paid him thirty pieces of silver |
| 26:16 |
And from that moment he soughtbegan to look for an opportunity to betray him |
| 26:17 |
NowOn on the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus saying Where willdo you havewant us prepareto make the preparations for you to eat the passoverPassover |
| 26:18 |
He said Go into the city to a certain oneman and say to him The Teacher says My time is at handnear; I will keep the passoverPassover at your house with my disciples |
| 26:19 |
AndSo the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and they prepared the passoverPassover meal |
| 26:20 |
When it was evening he sattook athis tableplace with the twelve disciples; |
| 26:21 |
and aswhile they were eating he said Truly I saytell to you one of you will betray me |
| 26:22 |
And they werebecame verygreatly sorrowfuldistressed and began to say to him one after another IsSurely itnot I Lord |
| 26:23 |
He answered HeThe one who has dipped his hand ininto the dishbowl with me will betray me |
| 26:24 |
The Son of manMan goes as it is written of him but woe to that manone by whom the Son of manMan is betrayed It would have been better for that manone ifnot heto hadhave not been born |
| 26:25 |
Judas who betrayed him said IsSurely itnot I MasterRabbi He saidreplied to him You have said so |
| 26:26 |
NowWhile as they were eating Jesus took a loaf of bread and blessedafter andblessing it he broke it and gave it to the disciples and said Take eat; this is my body |
| 26:27 |
AndThen he took a cup and whenafter hegiving had given thanks he gave it to them saying Drink offrom it all of you; |
| 26:29 |
I tell you I shallwill notnever again drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Fathers kingdom |
| 26:30 |
AndWhen when they had sung athe hymn they went out to the Mount of Olives |
| 26:31 |
Then Jesus said to them You will all fallbecome awaydeserters because of me this night; for it is written I will strike the shepherd and the sheep of the flock will be scattered |
| 26:32 |
But after I am raised up I will go beforeahead of you to Galilee |
| 26:33 |
Peter declaredsaid to him Though they all fallbecome awaydeserters because of you I will never falldesert awayyou |
| 26:34 |
Jesus said to him Truly I saytell to you this very night before the cock crows you will deny me three times |
| 26:35 |
Peter said to him Even ifthough I must die with you I will not deny you And so said all the disciples |
| 26:36 |
Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsem′aneGethsemane; and he said to his disciples Sit here while I go yonderover there and pray |
| 26:37 |
AndHe takingtook with him Peter and the two sons of Zeb′edeeZebedee heand began to be sorrowfulgrieved and troubledagitated |
| 26:38 |
Then he said to them MyI soulam isdeeply verygrieved sorrowful even to death; remain here and watchstay awake with me |
| 26:39 |
And going a little farther he fellthrew himself on histhe faceground and prayed My Father if it beis possible let this cup pass from me; neverthelessyet not aswhat I willwant but aswhat thouyou wiltwant |
| 26:40 |
AndThen he came to the disciples and found them sleeping; and he said to Peter So could you not watchstay awake with me one hour |
| 26:41 |
WatchStay awake and pray that you may not entercome into temptationthe time of trial; the spirit indeed is willing but the flesh is weak |
| 26:42 |
Again he went away for the second time he went away and prayed My Father if this cannot pass unless I drink it thyyour will be done |
| 26:43 |
AndAgain again he came and found them sleeping for their eyes were heavy |
| 26:45 |
Then he came to the disciples and said to them Are you still sleeping and taking your rest BeholdSee the hour is at hand and the Son of manMan is betrayed into the hands of sinners |
| 26:46 |
RiseGet up let us be going; seeSee my betrayer is at hand |
| 26:47 |
While he was still speaking Judas came one of the twelve andarrived; with him was a greatlarge crowd with swords and clubs from the chief priests and the elders of the people |
| 26:48 |
Now the betrayer had given them a sign saying The one I shallwill kiss is the man; seizearrest him |
| 26:49 |
AndAt once he came up to Jesus at once and said HailGreetings MasterRabbi Andand he kissed him |
| 26:50 |
Jesus said to him Friend whydo arewhat you are here to do Then they came up and laid hands on Jesus and seizedarrested him |
| 26:51 |
AndSuddenly behold one of those who were with Jesus stretchedput out his hand andon drew his sword drew it and struck the slave of the high priest andcutting cut off his ear |
| 26:54 |
But how then shouldwould the scriptures be fulfilled thatwhich say it must behappen soin this way |
| 26:55 |
At that hour Jesus said to the crowds Have you come out as against a robber with swords and clubs to capturearrest me as though I were a bandit Day after day I sat in the temple teaching and you did not seizearrest me |
| 26:56 |
But all this has taken place so that the scriptures of the prophets mightmay be fulfilled Then all the disciples forsookdeserted him and fled |
| 26:57 |
ThenThose those who had seizedarrested Jesus ledtook him to Ca′iaphasCaiaphas the high priest wherein whose house the scribes and the elders had gathered |
| 26:58 |
But Peter followedwas following him at a distance as far as the courtyard of the high priest; and going inside he sat with the guards in order to see thehow this would end |
| 26:59 |
Now the chief priests and the whole council soughtwere looking for false testimony against Jesus so that they might put him to death |
| 26:62 |
AndThe the high priest stood up and said Have you no answer to make What is it that thesethey men testify against you |
| 26:63 |
But Jesus was silent AndThen the high priest said to him I adjureput you byunder oath before the living God tell us if you are the ChristMessiah the Son of God |
| 26:64 |
Jesus said to him You have said so But I tell you hereafterFrom now on you will see the Son of manMan seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven |
| 26:65 |
Then the high priest tore his robesclothes and said He has utteredblasphemed blasphemy Why do we still need witnesses You have now heard his blasphemy |
| 26:66 |
What is your judgmentverdict They answered He deserves death |
| 26:68 |
saying Prophesy to us you ChristMessiah Who is it that struck you |
| 26:69 |
Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard AndA aservant maidgirl came up to him and said You also were with Jesus the Galilean |
| 26:70 |
But he denied it before all of them all saying I do not know what you meanare talking about |
| 26:71 |
AndWhen when he went out to the porch another maidservant girl saw him and she said to the bystanders This man was with Jesus of Nazareth |
| 26:72 |
AndAgain again he denied it with an oath I do not know the man |
| 26:74 |
Then he began to invoke a curse onand himselfhe andswore toan swearoath I do not know the man AndAt immediatelythat moment the cock crowed |
| 26:75 |
AndThen Peter remembered thewhat sayingJesus ofhad Jesussaid: Before the cock crows you will deny me three times And he went out and wept bitterly |
| 27:1 |
When morning came all the chief priests and the elders of the people tookconferred counseltogether against Jesus in order to putbring himabout tohis death; |
| 27:2 |
andThey they bound him and led him away and deliveredhanded him over to Pilate the governor |
| 27:3 |
When Judas his betrayer saw that heJesus was condemned he repented and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders |
| 27:4 |
sayingHe said I have sinned inby betraying innocent blood TheyBut they said What is that to us See to it yourself |
| 27:5 |
AndThrowing throwing down the pieces of silver in the temple he departed; and he went and hanged himself |
| 27:7 |
SoAfter theyconferring tooktogether counselthey andused boughtthem withto thembuy the potters field as a place to bury strangersforeigners in |
| 27:8 |
ThereforeFor this reason that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day |
| 27:9 |
Then was fulfilled what had been spoken bythrough the prophet Jeremiah saying And they took the thirty pieces of silver the price of himthe one on whom a price had been set byon whom some of the sonspeople of Israel had set a price |
| 27:10 |
and they gave them for the potters field as the Lord directedcommanded me |
| 27:11 |
Now Jesus stood before the governor; and the governor asked him Are you the King of the Jews Jesus said You havesay said so |
| 27:12 |
But when he was accused by the chief priests and elders he madedid nonot answer |
| 27:13 |
Then Pilate said to him Do you not hear how many thingsaccusations they testifymake against you |
| 27:14 |
But he gave him no answer not even to a single charge; so that the governor wonderedwas greatly amazed |
| 27:15 |
Now at the feastfestival the governor was accustomed to release a prisoner for the crowd anyanyone one prisoner whom they wanted |
| 27:16 |
AndAt that time they had then a notorious prisoner called Barab′basJesus Barabbas |
| 27:17 |
So whenafter they had gathered Pilate said to them Whom do you want me to release for you Barab′basJesus Barabbas or Jesus who is called Christthe Messiah |
| 27:18 |
For he knewrealized that it was out of envyjealousy that they had deliveredhanded him upover |
| 27:19 |
BesidesWhile while he was sitting on the judgment seat his wife sent word to him Have nothing to do with that righteousinnocent man for today I have suffered mucha overgreat himdeal todaybecause inof a dream about him |
| 27:20 |
Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the peoplecrowds to ask for Barab′basBarabbas and destroyto have Jesus killed |
| 27:21 |
The governor again said to them Which of the two do you want me to release for you And they said Barab′basBarabbas |
| 27:22 |
Pilate said to them Then what shallshould I do with Jesus who is called Christthe TheyMessiah allAll of them said Let him be crucified |
| 27:23 |
AndThen he saidasked Why what evil has he done But they shouted all the more Let him be crucified |
| 27:24 |
So when Pilate saw that he wascould gainingdo nothing but rather that a riot was beginning he took some water and washed his hands before the crowd saying I am innocent of this mans blood; see to it yourselves |
| 27:25 |
AndThen all the people as a whole answered His blood be on us and on our children |
| 27:26 |
ThenSo he released Barabbas for them; Barab′bas and havingafter scourgedflogging Jesus deliveredhe handed him over to be crucified |
| 27:27 |
Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the praetoriumgovernors headquarters and they gathered the whole battalioncohort beforearound him |
| 27:28 |
AndThey they stripped him and put a scarlet robe uponon him |
| 27:29 |
and plaitingafter twisting some thorns into a crown of thorns they put it on his head andThey put a reed in his right hand Andand kneelingknelt before him theyand mocked him saying Hail King of the Jews |
| 27:30 |
AndThey they spat uponon him and took the reed and struck him on the head |
| 27:31 |
AndAfter whenmocking they had mocked him they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him andThen they led him away to crucify him |
| 27:32 |
As they went out they came upon a man offrom Cyre′neCyrene named Simon; bythey name;compelled this man they compelled to carry his cross |
| 27:33 |
And when they came to a place called Gol′gothaGolgotha which means thePlace place of a skullSkull |
| 27:34 |
they offered him wine to drink mingledmixed with gall; but when he tasted it he would not drink it |
| 27:35 |
And when they had crucified him they divided his garmentsclothes among themthemselves by casting lots; |
| 27:36 |
then they sat down there and kept watch over him there |
| 27:37 |
AndOver over his head they put the charge against him which read This is Jesus the King of the Jews |
| 27:38 |
Then two robbersbandits were crucified with him one on thehis right and one on thehis left |
| 27:39 |
AndThose those who passed by derided him waggingshaking their heads |
| 27:41 |
SoIn alsothe same way the chief priests also along with the scribes and elders mockedwere mocking him saying |
| 27:42 |
He saved others; he cannot save himself He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross now and we will believe in him |
| 27:43 |
He trusts in God; let God deliver him now if he desireswants himto; for he said I am theGods Son of God |
| 27:44 |
AndThe thebandits robbers who were crucified with him also reviledtaunted him in the same way |
| 27:45 |
NowFrom fromnoon theon sixthdarkness hourcame there was darkness over all the whole land until three in the ninthafternoon hour |
| 27:46 |
And about thethree ninthoclock hour Jesus cried with a loud voice Eli Eli la′malema sabachsabachthani tha′ni that is My God my God why hasthave thouyou forsaken me |
| 27:47 |
AndWhen some of the bystanders hearingheard it they said This man is calling Eli′jahfor Elijah |
| 27:48 |
AndAt once one of them at once ran and tookgot a sponge filled it with vinegarsour andwine put it on a reedstick and gave it to him to drink |
| 27:49 |
But the others said Wait let us see whether Eli′jahElijah will come to save him |
| 27:50 |
AndThen Jesus cried again with a loud voice and yieldedbreathed up his spiritlast |
| 27:51 |
AndAt beholdthat moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; andThe the earth shook and the rocks were split; |
| 27:52 |
theThe tombs also were opened and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised |
| 27:53 |
andAfter cominghis resurrection they came out of the tombs afterand hisentered resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many |
| 27:54 |
WhenNow when the centurion and those with him who were with him keeping watch over Jesus saw the earthquake and what took place they were filledterrified with awe and said Truly this man was theGods Son of God |
| 27:55 |
ThereMany women were also many women there looking on from afara whodistance; they had followed Jesus from Galilee ministeringand tohad provided for him; |
| 27:56 |
amongAmong whomthem were Mary Mag′daleneMagdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joseph and the mother of the sons of Zeb′edeeZebedee |
| 27:57 |
When it was evening there came a rich man from Arimathe′aArimathea named Joseph who was also was a disciple of Jesus |
| 27:58 |
He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus; Thenthen Pilate ordered it to be given to him |
| 27:59 |
AndSo Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen shroudcloth |
| 27:60 |
and laid it in his own new tomb which he had hewn in the rock; andHe hethen rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb and departedwent away |
| 27:61 |
Mary Mag′daleneMagdalene and the other Mary were there sitting opposite the sepulchretomb |
| 27:62 |
NextThe next day that is after the day of Preparation the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate |
| 27:63 |
and said Sir we remember howwhat that imposterimpostor said while he was still alive After three days I will rise again |
| 27:64 |
Therefore ordercommand the sepulchretomb to be made secure until the third day; lestotherwise his disciples may go and steal him away and tell the people He has risenbeen raised from the dead and the last frauddeception willwould be worse than the first |
| 27:66 |
So they went with the guard and made the sepulchretomb secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard |
| 28:1 |
NowAfter after the sabbath towardas the dawn of the first day of the week was dawning Mary Mag′daleneMagdalene and the other Mary went to see the sepulchretomb |
| 28:2 |
And beholdsuddenly there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descendeddescending from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat uponon it |
| 28:3 |
His appearance was like lightning and his raimentclothing white as snow |
| 28:4 |
AndFor for fear of him the guards trembledshook and became like dead men |
| 28:5 |
But the angel said to the women Do not be afraid; for I know that you seekare looking for Jesus who was crucified |
| 28:6 |
He is not here; for he has risenbeen raised as he said Come see the place where he lay |
| 28:7 |
Then go quickly and tell his disciples thatHe he has risenbeen raised from the dead and beholdindeed he is going beforeahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him LoThis Iis havemy toldmessage for you |
| 28:8 |
So they departedleft quickly from the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to tell his disciples |
| 28:9 |
AndSuddenly behold Jesus met them and said HailGreetings And they came upto andhim took hold of his feet and worshiped him |
| 28:10 |
Then Jesus said to them Do not be afraid; go and tell my brethrenbrothers to go to Galilee; and there they will see me |
| 28:11 |
While they were going behold some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests alleverything that had takenhappened place |
| 28:12 |
AndAfter whenthe theypriests had assembled with the elders andthey takendevised counsela theyplan gaveto give a large sum of money to the soldiers |
| 28:13 |
andtelling saidthem TellYou peoplemust say His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep |
| 28:14 |
AndIf if this comes to the governors ears we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble |
| 28:15 |
So they took the money and did as they were directed; andAnd this story hasis beenstill spreadtold among the Jews to this day |
| 28:17 |
AndWhen when they saw him they worshiped him; but some doubted |
| 28:20 |
and teaching them to observeobey alleverything that I have commanded you; andAnd loremember I am with you always to the closeend of the age |
