| 1:7 |
Your country lies desolate your cities are burned with fire; in your very presence aliens devour your land; it is desolate as overthrown by aliensforeigners |
| 1:8 |
And the daughter of Zion is left like a booth in a vineyard like a lodgeshelter in a cucumber field like a besieged city |
| 1:9 |

| 1:10 |

| 1:15 |
When you spreadstretch forthout your hands I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers I will not listen; your hands are full of blood |
| 1:17 |

| 1:18 |
Come now let us reasonargue togetherit out says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet they shall be aslike white as snow; though they are red like crimson they shall become like wool |
| 1:21 |
How the faithful city has become a harlotwhore sheShe that was full of justice Righteousnessrighteousness lodged in her— but now murderers |
| 1:22 |
Your silver has become dross your wine is mixed with water |
| 1:23 |
Your princes are rebels and companions of thieves EveryEveryone one loves a bribe and runs after gifts They do not defend the fatherlessorphan and the widows cause does not come tobefore them |
| 1:24 |
Therefore says the LordSovereign says the Lord of hosts the Mighty One of Israel: Ah I will ventpour out my wrath on my enemies and avenge myself on my foes |
| 1:25 |
I will turn my hand against you; andI will smelt away your dross as with lye and remove all your alloy |
| 1:29 |
For you shall be ashamed of the oaks in which you delighted; and you shall blush for the gardens whichthat you have chosen |
| 1:31 |
AndThe the strong shall become towlike tinder and histheir work like a spark; they and boththeir ofwork them shall burn together with noneno one to quench them |
| 2:1 |
The word whichthat Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem |
| 2:2 |
ItIn shalldays come to passcome in the latter days that the mountain of the Lords house of the Lord shall be established as the highest of the mountains and shall be raised above the hills; and all the nations shall flowstream to it |
| 2:3 |
Many and many peoples shall come and say: Come let us go up to the mountain of the Lord to the house of the God of Jacob; that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths For out of Zion shall go forth theinstruction law and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem |
| 2:4 |
He shall judge between the nations and shall decidearbitrate for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation neither shall they learn war any more |
| 2:6 |
For thouyou hasthave rejectedforsaken thythe ways of your people theO house of Jacob becauseIndeed they are full of diviners from the east and of soothsayers like the Philistines and they strikeclasp hands with foreigners |
| 2:9 |
SoAnd manso ispeople are humbled and meneveryone areis brought low— do not forgive them not |
| 2:10 |
Enter into the rock and hide in the dust from before the terror of the Lord and from the glory of his majesty |
| 2:11 |
The haughty lookseyes of manpeople shall be brought low and the pride of meneveryone shall be humbled; and the Lord alone will be exalted in that day |
| 2:17 |

AndThe the idols shall utterly pass away |
| 2:19 |
AndEnter men shall enter the caves of the rocks and the holes of the ground from before the terror of the Lord and from the glory of his majesty when he rises to terrify the earth |
| 2:20 |
InOn that day menpeople will castthrow forthaway to the moles and to the bats their idols of silver and their idols of gold which they made for themselves to worship to the moles and to the bats |
| 2:21 |
to enter the caverns of the rocks and the clefts ofin the cliffscrags from before the terror of the Lord and from the glory of his majesty when he rises to terrify the earth |
| 2:22 |
Turn away from manmortals who have only breath in whosetheir nostrils is breath for of what account isare hethey |
| 3:1 |
For beholdnow the LordSovereign the Lord of hosts is taking away from Jerusalem and from Judah staysupport and staff— theall wholesupport stay of bread and theall wholesupport stay of water;— |
| 3:2 |
thewarrior mighty man and the soldier the judge and the prophet the diviner and the elder |
| 3:3 |

| 3:5 |
AndThe the people will oppressbe oneoppressed anothereveryone everyby mananother his fellow and everyeveryone manby hisa neighbor; the youth will be insolent to the elder and the base fellow to the honorable |
| 3:6 |
WhenSomeone awill maneven takesseize holda ofrelative hisa brothermember inof the houseclan of his father saying: You have a mantlecloak; you shall be our leader and this heap of ruins shall be under your rule; |
| 3:7 |
inBut thatthe dayother he will speakcry out on that day saying: I will not be a healer; in my house there is neither bread nor mantlecloak; you shall not make me leader of the people |
| 3:8 |
For Jerusalem has stumbled and Judah has fallen; because their speech and their deeds are against the Lord defying his glorious presence |
| 3:9 |
TheirThe partialitylook witnesseson their faces bears witness against them; they proclaim their sin like Sodom they do not hide it Woe to them For they have brought evil uponon themselves |
| 3:10 |
Tell the righteousinnocent thathow itfortunate shallthey beare well with them for they shall eat the fruit of their deedslabors |
| 3:11 |
Woe to the wickedguilty ItHow shallunfortunate bethey illare with him for what histheir hands have done shall be done to himthem |
| 3:13 |
The Lord hasrises takento argue his placecase; to contend he stands to judge histhe peoplepeoples |
| 3:14 |
The Lord enters into judgment with the elders and princes of his people: It is you who have devoured the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses |
| 3:17 |
the Lord will smiteafflict with ascabs scab the heads of the daughters of Zion and the Lord will lay bare their secret parts |
| 3:24 |
Instead of perfume there will be rottennessa stench; and instead of a girdlesash a rope; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a rich robe a girdingbinding of sackcloth; instead of beauty shame |
| 3:25 |
Your men shall fall by the sword and your mightywarriors men in battle |
| 4:1 |
AndSeven seven women shall take hold of one man in that day saying We will eat our own bread and wear our own clothes; onlyjust let us be called by your name; take away our reproachdisgrace |
| 4:2 |
InOn that day the branch of the Lord shall be beautiful and glorious and the fruit of the land shall be the pride and glory of the survivors of Israel |
| 4:3 |
AndWhoever he who is left in Zion and remains in Jerusalem will be called holy everyeveryone one who has been recorded for life in Jerusalem |
| 4:4 |
whenonce the Lord shallhas have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and cleansed the bloodstains of Jerusalem from its midst by a spirit of judgment and by a spirit of burning |
| 4:5 |
Then the Lord will create over the whole site of Mount Zion and over herits assembliesplaces of assembly a cloud by day and smoke and the shining of a flaming fire by night; forIndeed over all the glory there will be a canopy and a pavilion |
| 4:6 |
It will beserve foras a pavilion a shade by day from the heat and for a refuge and a shelter from the storm and rain |
| 5:1 |
Let me sing for my beloved amy love song concerning his vineyard: My beloved had a vineyard on a very fertile hill |
| 5:2 |
He diggeddug it and cleared it of stones and planted it with choice vines; he built a watchtower in the midst of it and hewed out a wine vat in it; and he lookedexpected for it to yield grapes but it yielded wild grapes |
| 5:3 |
And now O inhabitants of Jerusalem and menpeople of Judah judge I pray you between me and my vineyard |
| 5:4 |
What more was there to do for my vineyard that I have not done in it When I lookedexpected for it to yield grapes why did it yield wild grapes |
| 5:6 |
I will make it a waste; it shall not be pruned or hoed and it shall be overgrown with briers and thorns shall grow up; I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it |
| 5:7 |
For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel and the menpeople of Judah are his pleasant planting; and he lookedexpected for justice but beholdsaw bloodshed; for righteousness but beholdheard a cry |
| 5:8 |
WoeAh toyou those who join house to house who add field to field until there is room for no moreone roombut you and you are madeleft to dwelllive alone in the midst of the land |
| 5:10 |
For ten acres of vineyard shall yield but one bath and a homer of seed shall yield buta anmere ephah |
| 5:11 |
WoeAh toyou those who rise early in the morning thatin theypursuit mayof run after strong drink who tarrylinger latein into the evening tillto winebe inflamesinflamed themby wine |
| 5:12 |
Theywhose havefeasts consist of lyre and harp timbreltambourine and flute and wine at their feasts; but theywho do not regard the deeds of the Lord or see the work of his hands |
| 5:13 |
Therefore my people go into exile forwithout want of knowledge; their honorednobles men are dying of hunger and their multitude is parched with thirst |
| 5:14 |
Therefore Sheol has enlarged its appetite and opened its mouth beyond measure; and the nobility of Jerusalem and her multitude go down her throng and heall who exultsexult in her |
| 5:15 |
ManPeople isare bowed down andeveryone menis are brought low and the eyes of the haughty are humbled |
| 5:16 |
But the Lord of hosts is exalted inby justice and the Holy God shows himself holy inby righteousness |
| 5:17 |
Then shall the lambs shall graze as in their pasture fatlings and kids shall feed among the ruins |
| 5:18 |
WoeAh toyou those who drawdrag iniquity along with cords of falsehood who drawdrag sin along as with cart ropes |
| 5:19 |
who say: Let him make haste let him speed his work that we may see it; let the purposeplan of the Holy One of Israel drawhasten nearto andfulfillment let it come that we may know it |
| 5:20 |
WoeAh toyou those who call evil good and good evil who put darkness for light and light for darkness who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter |
| 5:21 |
WoeAh toyou those who are wise in theiryour own eyes and shrewd in theiryour own sight |
| 5:22 |
WoeAh toyou those who are heroes atin drinking wine and valiant menat in mixing strong drink |
| 5:23 |
who acquit the guilty for a bribe and deprive the innocent of histheir rightrights |
| 5:24 |
Therefore as the tongue of fire devours the stubble and as dry grass sinks down in the flame so their root will bebecome asrotten rottenness and their blossom go up like dust; for they have rejected the lawinstruction of the Lord of hosts and have despised the word of the Holy One of Israel |
| 5:25 |
Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against his people and he stretched out his hand against them and smotestruck them; and the mountains quaked; and their corpses were aslike refuse in the midst of the streets For all this his anger ishas not turned away and his hand is stretched out still |
| 5:26 |
He will raise a signal for a nation afarfar offaway and whistle for ita frompeople at the ends of the earth; andHere lothey come swiftly speedily it comes |
| 5:27 |
None of them is weary none stumbles none slumbers or sleeps not a waistclothloincloth is loose not a sandal thong broken; |
| 5:29 |
Their roaring is like a lion like young lions they roar; they growl and seize their prey they carry it off and noneno one can rescue |
| 5:30 |
They will growlroar over it on that day like the roaring of the sea And if one look to the land— beholdonly darkness and distress; and the light isgrows darkeneddark bywith its clouds |
| 6:1 |
In the year that King Uzzi′ahUzziah died I saw the Lord sitting uponon a throne high and lifted uplofty; and the hem of his trainrobe filled the temple |
| 6:2 |
AboveSeraphs himwere stoodin theattendance seraphimabove him; each had six wings: with two hethey covered histheir facefaces and with two hethey covered histheir feet and with two hethey flew |
| 6:4 |
AndThe thepivots foundationson of the thresholds shook at the voicevoices of himthose who called and the house was filled with smoke |
| 6:5 |
And I said: Woe is me For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips and I dwelllive inamong the midst of a people of unclean lips; foryet my eyes have seen the King the Lord of hosts |
| 6:6 |
Then flew one of the seraphimseraphs flew to me havingholding in his hand a burninglive coal whichthat he had been taken with tongs from the altar with a pair of tongs |
| 6:7 |
AndThe heseraph touched my mouth with it and said: BeholdNow that this has touched your lips; your guilt ishas takendeparted away and your sin forgivenis blotted out |
| 6:8 |
AndThen I heard the voice of the Lord saying Whom shall I send and who will go for us ThenAnd I said Here am I; Sendsend me |
| 6:9 |
And he said Go and say to this people: HearKeep andlistening hear but do not understandcomprehend; seekeep andlooking see but do not perceiveunderstand |
| 6:10 |
Make the heartmind of this people fatdull and stop their ears heavy and shut their eyes; lestso that they seemay not look with their eyes and hearlisten with their ears and understandcomprehend with their heartsminds and turn and be healed |
| 6:11 |
Then I said How long O Lord And he said: Until cities lie waste without inhabitant and houses without menpeople and the land is utterly desolate; |
| 6:12 |
anduntil the Lord removessends meneveryone far away and thevast forsakenis placesthe areemptiness many in the midst of the land |
| 6:13 |
AndEven thoughif a tenth part remain in it it will be burned again like a terebinth or an oak whose stump remains standing when it is felled The holy seed is its stump |
| 7:1 |
In the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham son of Uzzi′ahUzziah king of Judah King Rezin the king of SyriaAram and King Pekah the son of Remali′ahRemaliah the king of Israel camewent up to attack Jerusalem tobut wagecould warnot againstmount itan butattack theyagainst could not conquer it |
| 7:2 |
When the house of David washeard toldthat SyriaAram ishad inallied leagueitself with E′phraimEphraim histhe heart of Ahaz and the heart of his people shook as the trees of the forest shake before the wind |
| 7:3 |
AndThen the Lord said to Isaiah Go forthout to meet Ahaz you and She′ar jash′ub your son Shear jashub at the end of the conduit of the upper pool on the highway to the Fullers Field |
| 7:4 |
and say to him Take heed be quiet do not fear and do not let your heart be faint because of these two smoldering stumps of firebrands atbecause of the fierce anger of Rezin and SyriaAram and the son of Remali′ahRemaliah |
| 7:5 |
Because Syria Aram—with E′phraimEphraim and the son of Remali′ah Remaliah—has devisedplotted evil against you saying |
| 7:6 |
Let us go up against Judah and terrifycut itoff Jerusalem and let us conquer it for ourselves and setmake up the son of Ta′beTabeel el as king in the midst of it; |
| 7:7 |
therefore thus says the Lord God: It shall not stand and it shall not come to pass |
| 7:8 |
For the head of SyriaAram is Damascus and the head of Damascus is Rezin Within sixty five years E′phraimEphraim will be brokenshattered to pieces so that it will no longer be a people |
| 7:9 |
AndThe the head of E′phraimEphraim is Samar′iaSamaria and the head of Samar′iaSamaria is the son of Remali′ahRemaliah If you willdo not believestand surelyfirm in faith you shall not bestand establishedat all |
| 7:10 |
Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz saying |
| 7:13 |
AndThen heIsaiah said: Hear then O house of David Is it too little for you to weary menmortals that you weary my God also |
| 7:14 |
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign BeholdLook athe young woman shallis conceivewith child and shall bear a son and shall call his name Imman′uhim elImmanuel |
| 7:15 |
He shall eat curds and honey whenby the time he knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good |
| 7:17 |
The Lord will bring uponon you and uponon your people and uponon your fathersancestral house such days as have not come since the day that E′phraimEphraim departed from Judah—the king of Assyria |
| 7:18 |
InOn that day the Lord will whistle for the fly whichthat is at the sources of the streams of Egypt and for the bee whichthat is in the land of Assyria |
| 7:20 |
InOn that day the Lord will shave with a razor which is hired beyond the River—with the king of Assyria—the head and the hair of the feet and it will sweeptake awayoff the beard alsoas well |
| 7:21 |
InOn that day aone man will keep alive a young cow and two sheep; |
| 7:22 |
and will eat curds because of the abundance of milk whichthat they give he will eat curds; for everyeveryone one that is left in the land willshall eat curds and honey |
| 7:23 |
InOn that day every place where there used to be a thousand vines worth a thousand shekels of silver will become briers and thorns |
| 7:24 |
With bow and arrows menone will comego there for all the land will be briers and thorns; |
| 7:25 |
and as for all the hills whichthat used to be hoed with a hoe you will not comego there for fear of briers and thorns; but they will become a place where cattle are let loose and where sheep tread |
| 8:1 |
Then the Lord said to me Take a large tablet and write uponon it in common characters Belonging to Ma′herMaher shal′alshalal hash′ baz |
| 8:2 |
Andand Ihave gotit attested for me by reliable witnesses Uri′ah the priest Uriah and Zechari′ahZechariah the son of Jeberechi′ahJeberechiah to attest for me |
| 8:3 |
And I went to the prophetess and she conceived and bore a son Then the Lord said to me CallName hishim nameMaher Ma′hershalal shal′alhash hash′baz; |
| 8:4 |
for before the child knows how to crycall My father or My mother the wealth of Damascus and the spoil of Samar′iaSamaria will be carried away beforeby the king of Assyria |
| 8:6 |
Because this people havehas refused the waters of Shilo′ahShiloah that flow gently and melt in fear before Rezin and the son of Remali′ahRemaliah; |
| 8:7 |
therefore behold the Lord is bringing up against themit the mighty flood waters of the River mighty and many the king of Assyria and all his glory; and it will rise overabove all its channels and gooverflow over all its banks; |
| 8:8 |
and it will sweep on into Judah itas willa overflowflood and passpouring onover reachingit evenwill reach up to the neck; and its outspread wings will fill the breadth of your land O Imman′u elImmanuel |
| 8:9 |
BeBand brokentogether you peoples and be dismayed; givelisten ear all you far countries; gird yourselves and be dismayed; gird yourselves and be dismayed |
| 8:10 |
Take counsel together but it willshall comebe brought to noughtnaught; speak a word but it will not stand for God is with us |
| 8:11 |
For the Lord spoke thus to me withwhile his hand was strong hand upon me and warned me not to walk in the way of this people saying: |
| 8:12 |
Do not call conspiracy all that this people callcalls conspiracy and do not fear what theyit fearfears noror be in dread |
| 8:14 |
AndHe he will become a sanctuary and a stone ofone offensestrikes andagainst; afor rockboth houses of stumblingIsrael tohe bothwill housesbecome ofa Israelrock one stumbles over—a trap and a snare tofor the inhabitants of Jerusalem |
| 8:15 |
And many among them shall stumble thereon; they shall fall and be broken; they shall be snared and taken |
| 8:18 |
BeholdSee I and the children whom the Lord has given me are signs and portents in Israel from the Lord of hosts who dwells on Mount Zion |
| 8:19 |
AndNow whenif theypeople say to you Consult the mediumsghosts and the wizardsfamiliar whospirits that chirp and mutter; should not a people consult their Godgods Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living |
| 8:20 |
Tofor the teaching and tofor theinstruction testimony Surely forthose thiswho wordspeak whichlike theythis speakwill therehave is no dawn |
| 8:21 |
They will pass through the land greatly distressed and hungry; and when they are hungry they will be enraged and will curse their king and their Godgods andThey will turn their faces upward; |
| 8:22 |
andor they will look to the earth but beholdwill see only distress and darkness the gloom of anguish; and they will be thrust into thick darkness |
| 9:1 |
But there will be no gloom for herthose thatwho waswere in anguish In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zeb′ulunZebulun and the land of Naph′taliNaphtali but in the latter time he will make glorious the way of the sea the land beyond the Jordan Galilee of the nations |
| 9:2 |
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dweltlived in a land of deep darkness— on them light has light shined |
| 9:3 |
ThouYou hasthave multiplied the nation thouyou hasthave increased its joy; they rejoice before theeyou as with joy at the harvest as menpeople rejoiceexult when theydividing divide the spoilplunder |
| 9:4 |
For the yoke of histheir burden and the staffbar foracross histheir shouldershoulders the rod of histheir oppressor thouyou hasthave broken as on the day of Mid′ianMidian |
| 9:5 |
For everyall bootthe boots of the tramping warriorwarriors inand battleall tumultthe andgarments every garment rolled in blood willshall be burned as fuel for the fire |
| 9:6 |
For to us a child ishas been born tofor us a son is given; andto theus; governmentauthority willrests be upon his shouldershoulders; and hishe nameis willnamed be called Wonderful Counselor Mighty God Everlasting Father Prince of Peace |
| 9:7 |
OfHis theauthority increaseshall ofgrow hiscontinually government and of peace there willshall be noendless endpeace uponfor the throne of David and over his kingdom toHe will establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forthonward and forforevermore evermore The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this |
| 9:8 |
The Lord has sent a word against Jacob and it willfell lighton upon Israel; |
| 9:9 |
and all the people willknew knowit— E′phraimEphraim and the inhabitants of Samar′iaSamaria— whobut say in pride and in arrogance of heart they said: |
| 9:11 |
So the Lord raisesraised adversaries against them and stirsstirred up their enemies |
| 9:12 |
Thethe SyriansArameans on the east and the Philistines on the west devourand they devoured Israel with open mouth For all this his anger ishas not turned away; and his hand is stretched out still |
| 9:13 |
The people did not turn to him who smotestruck them noror seek the Lord of hosts |
| 9:15 |
theelders elder and honoreddignitaries manare is the head and theprophets prophet who teachesteach lies isare the tail; |
| 9:16 |
for those who leadled this people leadled them astray and those who arewere led by them arewere swallowedleft upin confusion |
| 9:17 |
ThereforeThat is why the Lord doesdid not rejoicehave overpity on their young menpeople andor has no compassion on their fatherlessorphans and widows; for everyeveryone onewas is godless and an evildoer and every mouth speaksspoke folly For all this his anger ishas not turned away and his hand is stretched out still |
| 9:18 |
For wickedness burnsburned like a fire itconsuming consumes briers and thorns; it kindleskindled the thickets of the forest and they rollswirled upward in a column of smoke |
| 9:19 |
Through the wrath of the Lord of hosts the land iswas burned and the people arebecame like fuel for the fire; no manone sparesspared his brotheranother |
| 9:20 |
They snatchgorged on the right but are still were hungry and they devourdevoured on the left but arewere not satisfied; eachthey devoursdevoured histhe neighborsflesh fleshof their own kindred; |
| 9:21 |
Manas′sehManasseh E′phraimdevoured Ephraim and E′phraimEphraim Manas′sehManasseh and together they arewere against Judah For all this his anger ishas not turned away; and his hand is stretched out still |
| 10:1 |
WoeAh toyou those who decreemake iniquitous decrees and the writers who keepwrite writingoppressive oppressionstatutes |
| 10:2 |
to turn aside the needy from justice and to rob the poor of my people of their right that widows may be theiryour spoil and that theyyou may make the fatherlessorphans theiryour prey |
| 10:3 |
What will you do on the day of punishment in the stormcalamity whichthat will come from afarfar away To whom will you flee for help and where will you leave your wealth |
| 10:4 |
Nothingso remainsas butnot to crouch among the prisoners or fall among the slain For all this his anger ishas not turned away; and his hand is stretched out still |
| 10:5 |
Ah Assyria the rod of my anger— the staffclub ofin their hands is my fury |
| 10:7 |
But hethis doesis not sowhat intendhe andintends hisnor mind does nothe sohave thinkthis in mind; but it is in his mindheart to destroy and to cut off nations not a few; |
| 10:8 |
forFor he says: Are not my commanders all kings |
| 10:9 |
Is not Calno like Car′chemishCarchemish Is not Hamath like Arpad Is not Samar′iaSamaria like Damascus |
| 10:10 |
As my hand has reached to the kingdoms of the idols whose graven images were greater than those of Jerusalem and Samar′iaSamaria |
| 10:11 |
shall I not do to Jerusalem and her idols aswhat I have done to Samar′iaSamaria and her images |
| 10:14 |
My hand has found like a nest the wealth of the peoples; and as menone gathergathers eggs that have been forsaken so I have gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved a wing or opened theits mouth or chirped |
| 10:15 |
Shall the axeax vaunt itself over himthe one who hewswields with it or the saw magnify itself against himthe one who wieldshandles it As if a rod should wieldraise himthe one who lifts it up or as if a staff should lift himthe one who is not wood |
| 10:16 |
Therefore the LordSovereign the Lord of hosts will send wasting sickness among his stout warriors and under his glory a burning will be kindled like the burning of fire |
| 10:18 |
The glory of his forest and of his fruitful land the Lord will destroy both soul and body and it will be as when aan sickinvalid man wastes away |
| 10:20 |
InOn that day the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the house of Jacob will no more lean uponon himthe thatone smotewho struck them but will lean uponon the Lord the Holy One of Israel in truth |
| 10:22 |
For though your people Israel bewere aslike the sand of the sea only a remnant of them will return Destruction is decreed overflowing with righteousness |
| 10:23 |
For the Lord theGod Lord of hosts will make a full end as decreed in the midst of all the earth |
| 10:24 |
Therefore thus says the Lord theGod Lord of hosts: O my people who dwelllive in Zion bedo not be afraid of the Assyrians when they smitebeat you with thea rod and lift up their staff against you as the Egyptians did |
| 10:26 |

Her merchandise and her hirewages will be dedicated to the Lord; ither profits will not be stored or hoarded but her merchandise will supply abundant food and fine clothing for those who dwelllive beforein the presence of the Lord |
| 24:1 |
BeholdNow the Lord willis about to lay waste the earth and make it desolate and he will twist its surface and scatter its inhabitants |
| 24:4 |
The earth mournsdries up and withers the world languishes and withers; the heavens languish together with the earth |
| 24:5 |
The earth lies polluted under its inhabitants; for they have transgressed the laws violated the statutes broken the everlasting covenant |
| 24:6 |
Therefore a curse devours the earth and its inhabitants suffer for their guilt; therefore the inhabitants of the earth aredwindled scorched and few menpeople are left |
| 24:7 |
The wine mournsdries up the vine languishes all the merry hearted sigh |
| 24:9 |
No morelonger do they drink wine with singing; strong drink is bitter to those who drink it |
| 24:10 |
The city of chaos is broken down every house is shut up so that noneno one can enter |
| 24:13 |
For thus it shall be inon the midstearth ofand the earth among the nations as when an olive tree is beaten as at the gleaning when the vintagegrape harvest is doneended |
| 24:14 |
They lift up their voices they sing for joy; they shout from the west over the majesty of the Lord they shout from the west |
| 24:15 |
Therefore in the east give glory to the Lord; in the coastlands of the sea toglorify the name of the Lord the God of Israel |
| 24:18 |
HeWhoever who flees at the sound of the terror shall fall into the pit; and hewhoever who climbs out of the pit shall be caught in the snare For the windows of heaven are opened and the foundations of the earth tremble |
| 24:19 |
The earth is utterly broken the earth is renttorn asunder the earth is violently shaken |
| 24:20 |
The earth staggers like a drunkendrunkard man it sways like a hut; its transgression lies heavy upon it and it falls and will not rise again |
| 24:21 |
On that day the Lord will punish the host of heaven in heaven and on earth the kings of the earth on the earth |
| 24:22 |
They will be gathered together aslike prisoners in a pit; they will be shut up in a prison and after many days they will be punished |
| 24:23 |
Then the moon will be confoundedabashed and the sun ashamed; for the Lord of hosts will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem and before his elders he will manifest his glory |
| 25:1 |
O Lord thouyou artare my God; I will exalt theeyou I will praise thyyour name; for thouyou hasthave done wonderful things plans formed of old faithful and sure |
| 25:2 |
For thouyou hasthave made the city a heap the fortified city a ruin; the palace of aliens is a city no more it will never be rebuilt |
| 25:3 |
Therefore strong peoples will glorify theeyou; cities of ruthless nations will fear theeyou |
| 25:4 |
For thouyou hasthave been a strongholdrefuge to the poor a strongholdrefuge to the needy in histheir distress a shelter from the stormrainstorm and a shade from the heat; forWhen the blast of the ruthless iswas like a stormwinter against a wallrainstorm |
| 25:5 |
the noise of aliens like heat in a dry place Thouyou dostsubdued subdue the noise of the aliens; as heat bywith the shade of aclouds; cloud so the song of the ruthless iswas stilled |
| 25:6 |
On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of fatrich thingsfood a feast of winewell onaged thewines lees of fatrich thingsfood fullfilled ofwith marrow of winewell onaged thewines leesstrained well refined clear |
| 25:7 |
And he will destroy on this mountain the coveringshroud that is cast over all peoples the veilsheet that is spread over all nations; he will swallow up death forever |
| 25:8 |
HeThen will swallow up death for ever and the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces and the reproachdisgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth; for the Lord has spoken |
| 25:9 |
It will be said on that day Lo this is our God; we have waited for him so that he might save us This is the Lord; for whom we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation |
| 25:10 |
For the hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain andThe MoabMoabites shall be trodden down in histheir place as straw is trodden down in a dung pit |
| 25:11 |
AndThough hethey will spread out histheir hands in the midst of it as aswimmers swimmerspread spreadsout histheir hands out to swim; buttheir thepride Lord will laybe laid low hisdespite pride together with the skillstruggle of histheir hands |
| 25:12 |
AndThe the high fortifications of his walls he will bringbe brought down laylaid low and cast to the ground even to the dust |
| 26:1 |
InOn that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: We have a strong city; he sets up salvationvictory aslike walls and bulwarks |
| 26:2 |
Open the gates so that the righteous nation whichthat keeps faith may enter in |
| 26:3 |
ThouThose dostof steadfast mind you keep him in perfect peace— whosein mindpeace is stayed on thee because hethey truststrust in theeyou |
| 26:4 |
Trust in the Lord forever for everin for the Lord God isyou have an everlasting rock |
| 26:5 |
For he has brought low the inhabitants of the height; the lofty city Hehe lays it low He lays it low to the ground casts it to the dust |
| 26:7 |
The way of the righteous is level; thouO dostJust One you make smooth the path of the righteous |
| 26:8 |
In the path of thyyour judgments O Lord we wait for theeyou; thyyour memorial name isand theyour desirerenown ofare ourthe soulsouls desire |
| 26:9 |
My soul yearns for theeyou in the night my spirit within me earnestly seeks theeyou For when thyyour judgments are in the earth the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness |
| 26:10 |
If favor is shown to the wicked hethey doesdo not learn righteousness; in the land of uprightness hethey dealsdeal perversely and doesdo not see the majesty of the Lord |
| 26:11 |
O Lord thyyour hand is lifted up but they do not see it not Let them see thyyour zeal for thyyour people and be ashamed Let the fire for thyyour adversaries consume them |
| 26:12 |
O Lord thouyou wiltwill ordain peace for us thoufor hastindeed wroughtall forthat uswe allhave ourdone worksyou have done for us |
| 26:13 |
O Lord our God other lords besides theeyou have ruled over us but thywe acknowledge your name alone we acknowledge |
| 26:14 |
TheyThe are dead theydo will not live; they are shades theydo will not arise;rise— tobecause thatyou endhave thoupunished hastand visiteddestroyed them with destruction and wiped out all remembrancememory of them |
| 26:15 |
But thouyou hasthave increased the nation O Lord thouyou hasthave increased the nation; thouyou artare glorified; thouyou hasthave enlarged all the borders of the land |
| 26:16 |
O Lord in distress they sought theeyou they poured out a prayer when thyyour chastening was uponon them |
| 26:17 |
Like a woman with child who writhes and cries out in her pangs when she is near her time so were we because of theeyou O Lord; |
| 26:18 |
we were with child we writhed but we havegave asbirth itonly wereto brought forth wind We have wroughtwon no deliverancevictories inon the earth and theno inhabitantsone ofis theborn worldto haveinhabit notthe fallenworld |
| 26:19 |
ThyYour dead shall live their bodiescorpses shall rise O dwellers in the dust awake and sing for joy For thyyour dew is a radiant dew of light and on the landearth ofwill thegive shadesbirth thouto wiltthose letlong it falldead |
| 26:21 |
For behold the Lord iscomes coming forth out offrom his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity; and the earth will disclose the blood shed uponon herit and will no morelonger cover herits slain |
| 27:1 |
InOn that day the Lord with his hardcruel and great and strong sword will punish Levi′athanLeviathan the fleeing serpent Levi′athanLeviathan the twisting serpent and he will slaykill the dragon that is in the sea |
| 27:2 |
InOn that day: A pleasant vineyard sing ofabout it |
| 27:3 |
I the Lord am its keeper; every moment I water it Lest any one harm it I guard it night and day so that no one can harm it; |
| 27:4 |
I have no wrath WouldIf thatit Igives hadme thorns and briers toI battlewill Imarch wouldto setbattle out against themit I wouldwill burn themit up together |
| 27:5 |
Or else let themit laycling holdto ofme myfor protection let themit make peace with me let themit make peace with me |
| 27:7 |
Has he smittenstruck them down as he smotestruck down those who smotestruck them Or have they been slainkilled as their slayerskillers were slainkilled |
| 27:8 |
MeasureBy byexpulsion measure by exile thouyou didststruggled contendagainst with them; he removed them with his fierce blast he removed them in the day of the east wind |
| 27:9 |
Therefore by this the guilt of Jacob will be expiated and this will be the full fruit of the removal of his sin: when he makes all the stones of the altars like chalkstones crushed to pieces no Ashe′rimsacred poles or incense altars will remain standing |
| 27:10 |
For the fortified city is solitary a habitation deserted and forsaken like the wilderness; there the calfcalves grazesgraze there hethere liesthey lie down and stripsstrip its branches |
| 27:11 |
When its boughs are dry they are broken; women come and make a fire of them For this is a people without discernmentunderstanding; therefore he whothat made them will not have compassion on them he that formed them will show them no favor |
| 27:12 |
InOn that day from the riverLord Euphra′teswill tothresh from the Brookchannel of Egypt the LordEuphrates willto threshthe outWadi theof grainEgypt and you will be gathered one by one O people of Israel |
| 27:13 |
And inon that day a great trumpet will be blown and those who were lost in the land of Assyria and those who were driven out to the land of Egypt will come and worship the Lord on the holy mountain at Jerusalem |
| 28:1 |
WoeAh to the proud crowngarland of the drunkards of E′phraimEphraim and to the fading flower of its glorious beauty which is on the head of thethose bloated with rich valleyfood of those overcome with wine |
| 28:2 |
BeholdSee the Lord has one who is mighty and strong; like a storm of hail a destroying tempest like a storm of mighty overflowing waters; with his hand he will casthurl them down to the earth with violence |
| 28:3 |
TheTrampled under foot will be the proud crowngarland of the drunkards of E′phraim will be trodden under foot;Ephraim |
| 28:4 |
andAnd the fading flower of its glorious beauty which is on the head of thethose bloated with rich valleyfood will be like a first ripe fig before the summer:; whenwhoever a man sees it he eats it up as soon as it iscomes into his hand |
| 28:5 |
In that day the Lord of hosts will be a crowngarland of glory and a diadem of beauty to the remnant of his people; |
| 28:6 |
and a spirit of justice to himthe one who sits in judgment and strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate |
| 28:8 |
ForAll all tables are fullcovered ofwith filthy vomit; no place is without filthinessclean |
| 28:9 |
Whom will he teach knowledge and to whom will he explain the message Those who are weaned from the milk those taken from the breast |
| 28:11 |
NayTruly butwith bystammering menlip of strange lips and with an alien tongue thehe Lord will speak to this people |
| 28:12 |
to whom he has said This is rest; give rest to the weary; and this is repose; yet they would not hear |
| 28:13 |
Therefore the word of the Lord will be to them preceptPrecept upon precept precept upon precept line upon line line upon line here a little there a little; in order that they may go and fall backward and be broken and snared and taken |
| 28:16 |
therefore thus says the Lord God BeholdSee I am laying in Zion for a foundation a stone a tested stone a precious cornerstone of a sure foundation: HeOne who believestrusts will not be in hastepanic |
| 28:17 |
And I will make justice the line and righteousness the plummet; and hail will sweep away the refuge of lies and waters will overwhelm the shelter |
| 28:21 |
For the Lord will rise up as on Mount Pera′zimPerazim he will berage wroth as in the valley of Gibeon; to do his deed—strange is his deed and to work his work—alien is his work |
| 28:22 |
Now therefore do not scoff lestor your bonds will be made strongstronger; for I have heard a decree of destruction from the Lord God of hosts upon the whole land |
| 28:23 |
GiveListen ear and hear my voice; hearkenPay attention and hear my speech |
| 28:24 |
DoesDo hethose who plowsplow for sowing plow continually doesDo hethey continually open and harrow histheir ground |
| 28:25 |
When hethey hashave leveled its surface doesdo hethey not scatter dill sow cummin and putplant in wheat in rows and barley in its proper place and spelt as the border |
| 28:26 |
For hethey isare well instructed aright; histheir God teaches himthem |
| 28:28 |
DoesGrain oneis crushcrushed for bread grainbut Noone he does not thresh it for everforever; whenone he drives histhe cart wheel and horses over it withbut his horses he does not crushpulverize it |
| 29:1 |
HoAh Ariel Ariel the city where David encamped Add year to year; let the feastsfestivals run their round |
| 29:2 |
Yet I will distress Ariel and there shall be moaning and lamentation and sheJerusalem shall be to me like an Ariel |
| 29:3 |
And like David I will encamp against you; roundI about and will besiege you with towers and I will raise siegeworks against you |
| 29:5 |
But the multitude of your foes shall be like small dust and the multitude of thetyrants ruthless like passingflying chaff And in an instant suddenly |
| 29:6 |
you will be visited by the Lord of hosts with thunder and with earthquake and great noise with whirlwind and tempest and the flame of a devouring fire |
| 29:7 |
And the multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel all that fight against her and her stronghold and who distress her shall be like a dream a vision of the night |
| 29:8 |
AsJust as when a hungry manperson dreams heof is eating and awakeswakes withup hisstill hungerhungry not satisfied or as when a thirsty manperson dreams heof is drinking and awakeswakes up faint withstill histhirsty thirst not quenched so shall the multitude of all the nations be that fight against Mount Zion |
| 29:9 |
Stupefy yourselves and be in a stupor blind yourselves and be blind Be drunk but not withfrom wine; stagger but not withfrom strong drink |
| 29:10 |
For the Lord has poured out upon you a spirit of deep sleep; andhe has closed your eyes theyou prophets and covered your heads theyou seers |
| 29:11 |
AndThe the vision of all this has become tofor you like the words of a booksealed thatdocument isIf sealedit Whenis mengiven give it to onethose who can read sayingwith the command Read this hethey sayssay IWe cannot for it is sealed |
| 29:12 |
And whenif theyit giveis thegiven book to onethose who cannot read saying Read this hethey sayssay IWe cannot read |
| 29:13 |
AndThe the Lord said: Because thisthese people draw near with their mouthmouths and honor me with their lips while their hearts are far from me and their fearworship of me is a human commandment of men learned by rote; |
| 29:14 |
thereforeso behold I will again do marvelousamazing things with this people wonderfulshocking and marvelous;amazing andThe the wisdom of their wise men shall perish and the discernment of theirthe discerning men shall be hidhidden |
| 29:15 |
WoeHa toYou those who hide a plan too deep fromfor the Lord their counsel whose deeds are in the dark and who say Who sees us Who knows us |
| 29:16 |
You turn things upside down Shall the potter be regarded as the clay; thatShall the thing made should say of its maker He did not make me; or the thing formed say of himthe one who formed it He has no understanding |
| 29:17 |
IsShall it not yetLebanon in a very little while untilbecome Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field and the fruitful field shall be regarded as a forest |
| 29:18 |
InOn that day the deaf shall hear the words of a bookscroll and out of their gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind shall see |
| 29:19 |
The meek shall obtain fresh joy in the Lord and the poorneediest amongpeople men shall exult in the Holy One of Israel |
| 29:20 |
For the ruthlesstyrant shall comebe tono noughtmore and the scoffer shall cease andto be; all whothose watchalert to do evil shall be cut off— |
| 29:21 |
those who bycause a wordperson make a man out to belose ana offenderlawsuit andwho layset a snaretrap for himthe whoarbiter reproves in the gate and withwithout angrounds emptydeny pleajustice turnto asidethe himone who is in the right |
| 29:22 |
Therefore thus says the Lord who redeemed Abraham concerning the house of Jacob: JacobNo longer shall noJacob more be ashamed no morelonger shall his face grow pale |
| 29:24 |
And those who err in spirit will come to understanding and those who murmurgrumble will accept instruction |
| 30:1 |
WoeOh to the rebellious children says the Lord who carry out a plan but not mine; and who make aan leaguealliance but notagainst of my spiritwill thatadding they may add sin to sin; |
| 30:2 |
who set out to go down to Egypt without asking for my counsel to take refuge in the protection of Pharaoh and to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt; |
| 30:3 |
Therefore shall the protection of Pharaoh turnshall tobecome your shame and the shelter in the shadow of Egypt to your humiliation |
| 30:4 |
For though his officials are at Zo′anZoan and his envoys reach Ha′nesHanes |
| 30:5 |
everyeveryone one comes to shame through a people that cannot profit them that brings neither help nor profit but shame and disgrace |
| 30:6 |
An oracle onconcerning the beastsanimals of the Negeb Through a land of trouble and anguishdistress fromof where come the lioness and theroaring lion theof viper and the flying serpent they carry their riches on the backs of assesdonkeys and their treasures on the humps of camels to a people that cannot profit them |
| 30:8 |
AndGo now go write it before them on a tablet and inscribe it in a book so that it may be for the time to come as a witness for everforever |
| 30:9 |
For they are a rebellious people lyingfaithless sonschildren sonschildren who will not hear the instruction of the Lord; |
| 30:10 |
who say to the seers SeeDo not see; and to the prophets ProphesyDo not prophesy to us what is right; speak to us smooth things prophesy illusions |
| 30:11 |
leave the way turn aside from the path let us hear no more ofabout the Holy One of Israel |
| 30:12 |
Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel: Because you despisereject this word and put your trust in oppression and perversenessdeceit and rely on them; |
| 30:13 |
therefore this iniquity shall bebecome tofor you like a break in a high wall bulging out and about to collapse whose crash comes suddenly in an instant; |
| 30:14 |
and its breaking is like that of a potters vessel whichthat is smashed so ruthlessly that among its fragments not a sherd is found withfor whichtaking to take fire from the hearth or todipping dip up water out of the cistern |
| 30:15 |
For thus said the Lord God the Holy One of Israel: In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength AndBut you wouldrefused not |
| 30:16 |
butand you said No We will speedflee upon horses— therefore you shall speedflee away; and We will ride upon swift steeds— therefore your pursuers shall be swift |
| 30:17 |
A thousand shall flee at the threat of one at the threat of five you shall flee tilluntil you are left like a flagstaff on the top of a mountain like a signal on a hill |
| 30:18 |
Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you; therefore he exaltswill himselfrise up to show mercy to you For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him |
| 30:19 |
YeaTruly O people in Zion whoinhabitants dwellof at Jerusalem; you shall weep no more He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when he hears it he will answer you |
| 30:20 |
AndThough though the Lord may give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction yet your Teacher will not hide himself any more but your eyes shall see your Teacher |
| 30:21 |
And when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left your ears shall hear a word behind you saying This is the way; walk in it when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left |
| 30:22 |
Then you will defile your silver covered gravenidols images and your gold plated molten images You will scatter them aslike uncleanfilthy thingsrags; you will say to them BegoneAway with you |
| 30:23 |
AndHe he will give rain for the seed with which you sow the ground and grain the produce of the ground which will be rich and plenteous InOn that day your cattle will graze in largebroad pastures; |
| 30:24 |
and the oxen and thedonkeys asses that till the ground will eat saltedsilage provender which has been winnowed with shovel and fork |
| 30:25 |
AndOn upon every lofty mountain and every high hill there will be brooks running with water—on ina the day of the great slaughter when the towers fall |
| 30:26 |
Moreover the light of the moon will be aslike the light of the sun and the light of the sun will be sevenfold aslike the light of seven days inon the day when the Lord binds up the hurtinjuries of his people and heals the wounds inflicted by his blow |
| 30:27 |
BeholdSee the name of the Lord comes from far away burning with his anger and in thick rising smoke; his lips are full of indignation and his tongue is like a devouring fire; |
| 30:28 |
his breath is like an overflowing stream that reaches up to the neck;— to sift the nations with the sieve of destruction and to place on the jaws of the peoples a bridle that leads them astray |
| 30:29 |
You shall have a song as in the night when a holy feastfestival is kept; and gladness of heart as when one sets out to the sound of the flute to go to the mountain of the Lord to the Rock of Israel |
| 30:31 |
The AssyriansAssyrian will be terror stricken at the voice of the Lord when he smitesstrikes with his rod |
| 30:32 |
And every stroke of the staff of punishment whichthat the Lord lays upon themhim will be to the sound of timbrels and lyres; battling with brandished arm he will fight with themhim |
| 30:33 |
For ahis burning place has long been prepared; yeatruly for the king it is made ready for the king its pyre made deep and wide with fire and wood in abundance; the breath of the Lord like a stream of brimstonesulfur kindles it |
| 31:1 |
WoeAlas tofor those who go down to Egypt for help and who rely on horses who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the Lord |
| 31:2 |
AndYet yet he too is wise and brings disaster; he does not call back his words but will ariserise against the house of the evildoers and against the helpers of those who work iniquity |
| 31:3 |
The Egyptians are menhuman and not God; and their horses are flesh and not spirit When the Lord stretches out his hand the helper will stumble and hethe whoone is helped will fall and they will all perish together |
| 31:4 |
For thus the Lord said to me As a lion or a young lion growls over hisits prey and —when a band of shepherds is called forthout against himit— is not terrified by their shouting or daunted at their noise so the Lord of hosts will come down to fight upon Mount Zion and upon its hill |
| 31:5 |
Like birds hovering overhead so the Lord of hosts will protect Jerusalem; he will protect and deliver it he will spare and rescue it |
| 31:6 |
Turn back to him from whom you have deeply revoltedbetrayed O people of Israel |
| 31:7 |
For inon that day everyall oneof you shall castthrow away hisyour idols of silver and his idols of gold which your hands have sinfully made for you |
| 31:8 |
AndThen the Assyrian shall fall by a sword not of manmortals; and a sword not of manhumans shall devour him; and he shall flee from the sword and his young men shall be put to forced labor |
| 32:1 |
BeholdSee a king will reign in righteousness and princes will rule inwith justice |
| 32:3 |
Then the eyes of those who seehave sight will not be closed and the ears of those who hearhave hearing will hearkenlisten |
| 32:4 |
The mindminds of the rash will have good judgment and the tonguetongues of the stammerers will speak readily and distinctly |
| 32:5 |
TheA fool will no morelonger be called noble nor thea knavevillain said to be honorable |
| 32:6 |
For thefools foolspeak speaks folly and histheir mindminds plotsplot iniquity: to practice ungodliness to utter error concerning the Lord to leave the craving of the hungry unsatisfied and to deprive the thirsty of drink |
| 32:7 |
The knaveriesvillainies of thevillains knave are evil; hethey devisesdevise wicked devices to ruin the poor with lying words even when the plea of the needy is right |
| 32:8 |
But hethose who isare noble devisesplan noble things and by noble things hethey standsstand |
| 32:9 |
Rise up you women who are at ease hear my voice; you complacent daughters givelisten ear to my speech |
| 32:10 |
In little more than a year you will shudder you complacent womenones; for the vintage will fail the fruit harvest will not come |
| 32:11 |
Tremble you women who are at ease shudder you complacent ones; strip and make yourselves bare and girdput sackcloth uponon your loins |
| 32:12 |
Beat upon your breasts for the pleasant fields for the fruitful vine |
| 32:13 |
for the soil of my people growing up in thorns and briers; yeayes for all the joyous houses in the joyfuljubilant city |
| 32:14 |
For the palace will be forsaken the populous city deserted; the hill and the watchtower will become dens forforever everthe a joy of wild asses a pasture offor flocks; |
| 32:15 |
until thea Spiritspirit from on high is poured uponout us from on highus and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field and the fruitful field is deemed a forest |
| 32:17 |
AndThe the effect of righteousness will be peace and the result of righteousness quietness and trust for everforever |
| 32:19 |
AndThe the forest will utterlydisappear gocompletely down and the city will be utterly laid low |
| 32:20 |
Happy arewill you be who sow beside allevery watersstream who let the feet of the ox and the assdonkey range freefreely |
| 33:1 |
WoeAh to you destroyer who yourself have not been destroyed; you treacherous one with whom noneno one has dealt treacherously When you have ceased to destroy you will be destroyed; and when you have madestopped an end of dealing treacherously you will be dealt with treacherously |
| 33:2 |
O Lord be gracious to us; we wait for theeyou Be our arm every morning our salvation in the time of trouble |
| 33:3 |
At the thunderoussound noiseof tumult peoples fleefled; atbefore theyour liftingmajesty up of thyself nations are scattered; |
| 33:4 |
andSpoil spoilwas is gathered as the caterpillar gathers; as locusts leap menthey leapleaped upon it |
| 33:5 |
The Lord is exalted for he dwells on high; he willfilled fill Zion with justice and righteousness; |
| 33:6 |
and he will be the stability of your times abundance of salvation wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is hisZions treasure |
| 33:7 |
BeholdListen the valiant ones cry withoutin the streets; the envoys of peace weep bitterly |
| 33:8 |
The highways lieare wastedeserted travelers have quit the wayfaringroad manThe ceasestreaty Covenantsis are broken witnessesits oaths are despised thereits obligation is no regard for mandisregarded |
| 33:13 |
Hear you who are far offaway what I have done; and you who are near acknowledge my might |
| 33:14 |
The sinners in Zion are afraid; trembling has seized the godless: Who among us can dwelllive with the devouring fire Who among us can dwelllive with everlasting burningsflames |
| 33:15 |
HeThose who walkswalk righteously and speaksspeak uprightly who despisesdespise the gain of oppressionsoppression who shakeswave hisaway handsa lestbribe theyinstead holdof aaccepting bribeit who stopsstop histheir ears from hearing of bloodshed and shutsshut histheir eyes from looking uponon evil |
| 33:16 |
hethey will dwelllive on the heights; histheir placerefuge of defense will be the fortresses of rocks; histheir breadfood will be givensupplied himtheir his water will be sureassured |
| 33:17 |
Your eyes will see the king in his beauty; they will behold a land that stretches afarfar away |
| 33:18 |
Your mind will muse on the terror: Where is hethe one who counted whereWhere is hethe one who weighed the tribute Where is hethe one who counted the towers |
| 33:19 |
YouNo longer will you see no more the insolent people the people of an obscure speech whichthat you cannot comprehend stammering in a tonguelanguage whichthat you cannot understand |
| 33:20 |

| 36:1 |
In the fourteenth year of King Hezeki′ahHezekiah Sennach′eribKing kingSennacherib of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and tookcaptured them |
| 36:2 |
AndThe the king of Assyria sent the Rab′shakehRabshakeh from Lachish to King Hezeki′ahHezekiah at Jerusalem with a great army AndHe he stood by the conduit of the upper pool on the highway to the Fullers Field |
| 36:3 |
And there came out to him Eli′akimEliakim the son of Hilki′ahHilkiah who was overin charge of the householdpalace and Shebna the secretary and Jo′ahJoah the son of Asaph the recorder |
| 36:4 |
AndThe theRabshakeh Rab′shakeh said to them Say to Hezeki′ahHezekiah: Thus says the great king the king of Assyria: On what do you restbase this confidence of yours |
| 36:6 |
BeholdSee you are relying on Egypt that broken reed of a staff which will pierce the hand of anyanyone man who leans on it Such is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who rely on him |
| 36:7 |
But if you say to me We rely on the Lord our God is it not he whose high places and altars Hezeki′ahHezekiah has removed saying to Judah and to JerusalemYouJerusalem You shall worship before this altar |
| 36:8 |
Come now make a wager with my master the king of Assyria: I will give you two thousand horses if you are able on your part to set riders uponon them |
| 36:11 |
Then Eli′akimEliakim Shebna and Jo′ahJoah said to the Rab′shakehRabshakeh PrayPlease speak to your servants in Aramaic for we understand it; do not speak to us in the language of Judah within the hearing of the people who are on the wall |
| 36:12 |
But the Rab′shakehRabshakeh said Has my master sent me to speak these words to your master and to you and not to the menpeople sitting on the wall who are doomed with you to eat their own dung and drink their own urine |
| 36:13 |
Then the Rab′shakehRabshakeh stood and called out in a loud voice in the language of Judah: Hear the words of the great king the king of Assyria |
| 36:14 |
Thus says the king: Do not let Hezeki′ahHezekiah deceive you for he will not be able to deliver you |
| 36:15 |
Do not let Hezeki′ahHezekiah make you rely on the Lord by saying The Lord will surely deliver us; this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria |
| 36:16 |
Do not listen to Hezeki′ahHezekiah; for thus says the king of Assyria: Make your peace with me and come out to me; then everyeveryone one of you will eat offrom hisyour own vine and everyyour one of his own fig tree and every one of you will drink the water offrom hisyour own cistern; |
| 36:18 |
BewareDo lestnot Hezeki′ahlet Hezekiah mislead you by saying The Lord will deliversave us Has any of the gods of the nations deliveredsaved histheir land out of the hand of the king of Assyria |
| 36:19 |
Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad Where are the gods of Sepharva′imSepharvaim Have they delivered Samar′iaSamaria out of my hand |
| 36:20 |
Who among all the gods of these countries have deliveredsaved their countries out of my hand that the Lord should deliversave Jerusalem out of my hand |
| 36:22 |
Then Eli′akimEliakim the son of Hilki′ahHilkiah who was overin charge of the householdpalace and Shebna the secretary and Jo′ahJoah the son of Asaph the recorder came to Hezeki′ahHezekiah with their clothes renttorn and told him the words of the Rab′shakehRabshakeh |
| 37:1 |
When King Hezeki′ahHezekiah heard it he renttore his clothes and covered himself with sackcloth and went into the house of the Lord |
| 37:2 |
And he sent Eli′akimEliakim who was overin charge of the householdpalace and Shebna the secretary and the senior priests clothedcovered with sackcloth to the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz |
| 37:3 |
They said to him Thus says Hezeki′ahHezekiah This day is a day of distress of rebuke and of disgrace; children have come to the birth and there is no strength to bring them forth |
| 37:4 |
It may be that the Lord your God heard the words of the Rab′shakehRabshakeh whom his master the king of Assyria has sent to mock the living God and will rebuke the words whichthat the Lord your God has heard; therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left |
| 37:5 |
When the servants of King Hezeki′ahHezekiah came to Isaiah |
| 37:7 |
Behold I myself will put a spirit in him so that he shall hear a rumor and return to his own land; and I will makecause him to fall by the sword in his own land |
| 37:8 |
The Rab′shakehRabshakeh returned and found the king of Assyria fighting against Libnah; for he had heard that the king had left Lachish |
| 37:9 |
Now the king heard concerning Tirha′kahKing kingTirhakah of Ethiopia He has set out to fight against you AndWhen when he heard it he sent messengers to Hezeki′ahHezekiah saying |
| 37:10 |
Thus shall you speak to Hezeki′ahKing kingHezekiah of Judah: Do not let your God on whom you rely deceive you by promising that Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria |
| 37:11 |
BeholdSee you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands destroying them utterly AndShall shall you be delivered |
| 37:12 |
Have the gods of the nations delivered them the nations whichthat my fatherspredecessors destroyed Gozan Haran Rezeph and the people of Eden who were in TelTelassar assar |
| 37:13 |
Where is the king of Hamath the king of Arpad the king of the city of Sepharva′imSepharvaim the king of Hena or the king of Ivvah |
| 37:14 |
Hezeki′ahHezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it; andthen Hezeki′ahHezekiah went up to the house of the Lord and spread it before the Lord |
| 37:15 |
And Hezeki′ahHezekiah prayed to the Lord saying: |
| 37:16 |
O Lord of hosts God of Israel who artare enthroned above the cherubim thouyou artare the God thouyou alone of all the kingdoms of the earth; thouyou hasthave made heaven and earth |
| 37:17 |
Incline thyyour ear O Lord and hear; open thyyour eyes O Lord and see; and hear all the words of Sennach′eribSennacherib which he has sent to mock the living God |
| 37:18 |
OfTruly a truth O Lord the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations and their lands |
| 37:19 |
and have casthurled their gods into the fire; forthough they were no gods but the work of menshuman hands —wood and stone;—and thereforeso they were destroyed |
| 37:20 |
So now O Lord our God save us from his hand so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thouyou alone artare the Lord |
| 37:21 |
Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezeki′ahHezekiah saying: Thus says the Lord the God of Israel: Because you have prayed to me concerning Sennach′eribKing kingSennacherib of Assyria |
| 37:22 |
this is the word that the Lord has spoken concerning him: She despises you she scorns you— the virgin daughter of Zion; she wagstosses her head —behind you—your theback daughter of Jerusalem |
| 37:25 |
I dug wells and drank waters and I dried up with the sole of my foot all the streams of Egypt |
| 37:27 |
while their inhabitants shorn of strength are dismayed and confounded; andthey have become like plants of the field and like tender grass like grass on the housetops blighted before it is grown |
| 37:28 |
I know your sittingrising downup and your sitting down your going out and coming in and your raging against me |
| 37:29 |
Because you have raged against me and your arrogance has come to my ears I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth; and I will turn you back on the way by which you came |
| 37:30 |
And this shall be the sign for you: thisThis year eat what grows of itself and in the second year what springs offrom the samethat; then in the third year sow and reap and plant vineyards and eat their fruit |
| 37:31 |
AndThe the surviving remnant of the house of Judah shall again take root downward and bear fruit upward; |
| 37:32 |
for outfrom of Jerusalem a remnant shall go forthout a remnant and outfrom of Mount Zion a band of survivors The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplishdo this |
| 37:33 |
Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the king of Assyria: He shall not come into this city or shoot an arrow there or come before it with a shield or cast up a siege moundramp against it |
| 37:34 |
By the way that he came by the same he shall return; and he shall not come into this city says the Lord |
| 37:36 |
AndThen the angel of the Lord wentset forthout and slewstruck adown one hundred and eighty five thousand in the camp of the Assyrians; and when men arose early in the morning beholddawned thesethey were all dead bodies |
| 37:37 |
Then Sennach′eribKing kingSennacherib of Assyria departedleft and went home and dweltlived at Nin′evehNineveh |
| 37:38 |
AndAs as he was worshiping in the house of his god Nisroch his godsons Adram′melechAdrammelech and Share′zerSharezer hiskilled sons slew him with the sword and they escaped into the land of Ar′aratArarat AndHis E′sar had′don his son reignedEsar inhaddon hissucceeded steadhim |
| 38:1 |
In those days Hezeki′ahHezekiah became sick and was at the point of death AndThe Isaiah the prophet theIsaiah son of Amoz came to him and said to him Thus says the Lord: Set your house in order; for you shall die; you shall not recover |
| 38:2 |
Then Hezeki′ahHezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord: |
| 38:3 |
and said Remember now O Lord I beseechimplore theeyou how I have walked before theeyou in faithfulness and with a whole heart and have done what is good in thyyour sight And Hezeki′ahHezekiah wept bitterly |
| 38:5 |
Go and say to Hezeki′ahHezekiah Thus says the Lord the God of David your fatherancestor David: I have heard your prayer I have seen your tears; behold I will add fifteen years to your life |
| 38:8 |
BeholdSee I will make the shadow cast by the declining sun on the dial of Ahaz turn back ten steps So the sun turned back on the dial the ten steps by which it had declined |
| 38:9 |
A writing of Hezeki′ahKing kingHezekiah of Judah after he had been sick and had recovered from his sickness: |
| 38:10 |
I said: In the noontide of my days I must depart; I am consigned to the gates of Sheol for the rest of my years |
| 38:11 |
I said I shall not see the Lord in the land of the living; I shall look upon manmortals no more among the inhabitants of the world |
| 38:12 |
My dwelling is plucked up and removed from me like a shepherds tent; like a weaver I have rolled up my life; he cuts me off from the loom; from day to night thouyou dost bring me to an end; |
| 38:13 |
I cry for help until morning; like a lion he breaks all my bones; from day to night thouyou dost bring me to an end |
| 38:14 |
Like a swallow or a crane I clamor I moan like a dove My eyes are weary with looking upward O Lord I am oppressed; be thou my security |
| 38:16 |
O Lord by these things menpeople live and in all these is the life of my spirit Oh restore me to health and make me live |
| 38:17 |
LoSurely it was for my welfare that I had great bitterness; but thouyou hasthave held back my life from the pit of destruction for thouyou hasthave cast all my sins behind thyyour back |
| 38:18 |
For Sheol cannot thank theeyou death cannot praise theeyou; those who go down to the pitPit cannot hope for thyyour faithfulness |
| 38:19 |
The living the living hethey thanksthank theeyou as I do this day; thefathers fathermake makes known to the children thyyour faithfulness |
| 38:20 |
The Lord will save me and we will sing to stringed instruments all the days of our lifelives at the house of the Lord |
| 38:21 |
Now Isaiah had said Let them take a cakelump of figs and apply it to the boil so that he may recover |
| 38:22 |
Hezeki′ahHezekiah also had said What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the Lord |
| 39:1 |
At that time Mero′dachKing bal′adanMerodach thebaladan son of Bal′adanBaladan king of Babylon sent envoys with letters and a present to Hezeki′ahHezekiah for he heard that he had been sick and had recovered |
| 39:2 |
AndHezekiah Hezeki′ah welcomed them; and he showed them his treasure house the silver the gold the spices the precious oil his whole armory all that was found in his storehouses There was nothing in his house or in all his realm that Hezeki′ahHezekiah did not show them |
| 39:3 |
Then Isaiah the prophet Isaiah came to King Hezeki′ahHezekiah and said to him What did these men say AndFrom whencewhere did they come to you Hezeki′ahHezekiah saidanswered They have come to me from a far country from Babylon |
| 39:4 |
He said What have they seen in your house Hezeki′ahHezekiah answered They have seen all that is in my house; there is nothing in my storehouses that I did not show them |
| 39:5 |
Then Isaiah said to Hezeki′ahHezekiah Hear the word of the Lord of hosts: |
| 39:6 |
BeholdDays the days are coming when all that is in your house and that which your fathersancestors have stored up tilluntil this day shall be carried to Babylon; nothing shall be left says the Lord |
| 39:7 |
AndSome some of your own sons who are born to you shall be taken away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon |
| 39:8 |
Then Hezekiah said Hezeki′ah to Isaiah The word of the Lord whichthat you have spoken is good For he thought There will be peace and security in my days |
| 40:1 |
Comfort O comfort my people says your God |
| 40:2 |
Speak tenderly to Jerusalem and cry to her that hershe warfarehas isserved endedher term that her iniquitypenalty is pardonedpaid that she has received from the Lords hand double for all her sins |
| 40:3 |
A voice cries out: In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord Makemake straight in the desert a highway for our God |
| 40:5 |
AndThen the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all fleshpeople shall see it together for the mouth of the Lord has spoken |
| 40:6 |
A voice says Cry out And I said What shall I cry All fleshpeople isare grass andtheir allconstancy its beauty is like the flower of the field |
| 40:7 |
The grass withers the flower fades when the breath of the Lord blows upon it; surely the people isare grass |
| 40:8 |
The grass withers the flower fades; but the word of our God will stand for everforever |
| 40:9 |
Get you up to a high mountain O Zion herald of good tidings; lift up your voice with strength O Jerusalem herald of good tidings lift it up feardo not fear; say to the cities of Judah BeholdHere is your God |

| 41:22 |
Let them bring them and tell us what is to happen Tell us the former things what they are so that we may consider them and that we may know their outcome; or declare to us the things to come |

Thus says God the Lord who created the heavens and stretched them out who spread forthout the earth and what comes from it who gives breath to the people upon it and spirit to those who walk in it: |
| 42:7 |
to open the eyes that are blind to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon from the prison those who sit in darkness |

| 42:22 |
But this is a people robbed and plundered they are all of them are trapped in holes and hidden in prisons; they have become a prey with noneno one to rescue a spoil with noneno one to say Restore |

| 43:1 |
But now thus says the Lord he who created you O Jacob he who formed you O Israel: FearDo not fear for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name you are mine |

He was despised and rejected by menothers; a man of sorrowssuffering and acquainted with griefinfirmity; and as one from whom menothers hide their faces he was despised and we esteemedheld him notof no account |

| 57:7 |
Upon a high and lofty mountain you have set your bed and thitherthere you went up to offer sacrifice |
| 57:8 |
Behind the door and the doorpost you have set up your symbol; for in deserting me you have uncovered your bed you have gone up to it you have made it wide; and you have made a bargain for yourself with them you have loved their bed you have lookedgazed on their nakedness |
| 57:9 |
You journeyed to Molech with oil and multiplied your perfumes; you sent your envoys far offaway and sent down even to Sheol |

| 57:14 |
AndIt it shall be said Build up build up prepare the way remove every obstruction from my peoples way |
| 57:15 |
For thus says the high and lofty Oneone who inhabits eternity whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place and also with himthose who isare of a contrite and humble in spirit to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the contrite |
| 57:16 |
For I will not contendcontinually foraccuse ever nor will I always be angry; for fromthen the spirits would grow faint before me proceedseven the spiritsouls andthat I have made the breath of life |
| 57:17 |
Because of thetheir iniquitywicked of his covetousness I was angry; I smotestruck himthem I hid my face and was angry; but hethey wentkept onturning backslidingback into thetheir way of his own heartways |
| 57:18 |
I have seen histheir ways but I will heal himthem; I will lead himthem and requiterepay himthem with comfort creating for histheir mourners the fruit of the lips |

| 58:1 |
CryShout aloudout sparedo not lifthold back Lift up your voice like a trumpet; declareAnnounce to my people their transgressionrebellion to the house of Jacob their sins |
| 58:2 |
Yet day after day they seek me daily and delight to know my ways as if they were a nation that didpracticed righteousness and did not forsake the ordinance of their God; they ask of me righteous judgments they delight to draw near to God |
| 58:3 |
Why havedo we fastedfast andbut thouyou seestdo it not see Why havehumble we humbled ourselves andbut thouyou takestdo nonot knowledgenotice ofLook ityou Beholdserve inyour theown dayinterest ofon your fast youday seek your own pleasure and oppress all your workers |
| 58:4 |
BeholdLook you fast only to quarrel and to fight and to hitstrike with a wicked fist FastingSuch likefasting yoursas thisyou daydo today will not make your voice to be heard on high |
| 58:5 |
Is such the fast that I choose a day for a man to humble himselfoneself Is it to bow down histhe head like a rushbulrush and to spreadlie in sackcloth and ashes under him Will you call this a fast and a day acceptable to the Lord |
| 58:6 |
Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickednessinjustice to undo the thongs of the yoke to let the oppressed go free and to break every yoke |
| 58:7 |
Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked to cover himthem and not to hide yourself from your own fleshkin |
| 58:8 |
Then shall your light shall break forth like the dawn and your healing shall spring up speedilyquickly; your righteousnessvindicator shall go before you the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard |
| 58:9 |
Then you shall call and the Lord will answer; you shall cry for help and he will say Here I am If you takeremove awaythe yoke from theamong midst of you the yoke the pointing of the finger andthe speaking wickednessof evil |
| 58:10 |
if you pouroffer yourselfyour outfood forto the hungry and satisfy the desireneeds of the afflicted then shall your light shall rise in the darkness and your gloom be aslike the noonday |
| 58:11 |
AndThe the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desireneeds within goodparched thingsplaces and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden like a spring of water whose waters never fail not |
| 58:12 |
AndYour your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach the restorer of streets to dwelllive in |
| 58:13 |
If you turnrefrain backfrom yourtrampling foot from the sabbath from doingpursuing your pleasureown interests on my holy day; andif you call the sabbath a delight and the holy day of the Lord honorable; if you honor it not going your own ways orserving seeking your own pleasureinterests or talkingpursuing idlyyour own affairs; |
| 58:14 |
then you shall take delight in the Lord and I will make you ride upon the heights of the earth; I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob your fatherancestor Jacob for the mouth of the Lord has spoken |
| 59:1 |
BeholdSee the Lords hand is not shortenedtoo thatshort itto cannot save ornor his ear too dull thatto it cannot hear; |
| 59:2 |
butRather your iniquities have madebeen abarriers separation between you and your God and your sins have hidhidden his face from you so that he does not hear |
| 59:4 |
No one entersbrings suit justly no one goes to law honestly; they rely on empty pleas they speak lies theyconceiving conceive mischief and bringbegetting forth iniquity |
| 59:5 |
They hatch adders eggs theyand weave the spiders web; hewhoever who eats their eggs dies and fromthe onecrushed whichegg ishatches crushedout a viper is hatched |
| 59:6 |
Their webs willcannot not serve as clothing; menthey willcannot not cover themselves with what they make Their works are works of iniquity and deeds of violence are in their hands |
| 59:7 |
Their feet run to evil and they makerush haste to shed innocent blood; their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity desolation and destruction are in their highways |
| 59:8 |
The way of peace they knowdo not know and there is no justice in their paths; Their roads they have made their roads crooked; no one who goeswalks in them knows peace |
| 59:9 |
Therefore justice is far from us and righteousness does not overtakereach us; we lookwait for light and beholdlo there is darkness; and for brightness but we walk in gloom |
| 59:10 |
We grope forlike the wallblind likealong thea blindwall wegroping grope like those who have no eyes; we stumble at noon as in the twilight among thosethe invigorous fullas vigorthough we arewere like dead men |

| 59:12 |
For our transgressions arebefore multipliedyou beforeare theemany and our sins testify against us; forOur our transgressions indeed are with us and we know our iniquities: |
| 59:13 |
transgressing and denying the Lord and turning away from following our God speakingtalking oppression and revolt conceiving lying words and uttering them from the heart lying words |
| 59:14 |
Justice is turned back and righteousness stands afarat offa distance; for truth hasstumbles fallen in the public squaressquare and uprightness cannot enter |
| 59:15 |
Truth is lacking and hewhoever whoturns departs from evil makesis himselfdespoiled a prey The Lord saw it and it displeased him that there was no justice |
| 59:16 |
He saw that there was no manone and wonderedwas appalled that there was no one to intervene; thenso his own arm brought him victory and his righteousness upheld him |
| 59:17 |
He put on righteousness aslike a breastplate and a helmet of salvation uponon his head; he put on garments of vengeance for clothing and wrapped himself in fury as in a mantle |
| 59:18 |
According to their deeds so will he repay; wrath to his adversaries requital to his enemies; to the coastlands he will render requital |
| 59:19 |

| 63:11 |
Then hethey remembered the days of old of Moses his servant Where is hethe one who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of his flock Where is hethe one who put inwithin the midst of them his holy Spiritspirit |
| 63:12 |

I was ready to be sought out by those who did not ask for me; I was ready to be found by those who did not seek me I said Here I am here I here am I to a nation that did not call on my name |
| 65:2 |
I spreadheld out my hands all the day long to a rebellious people who walk in a way that is not good following their own devices; |
| 65:3 |
a people who provoke me to my face continually sacrificing in gardens and burningoffering incense uponon bricks; |
| 65:4 |
who sit ininside tombs and spend the night in secret places; who eat swines flesh andwith broth of abominable things is in their vessels; |
| 65:5 |

| 65:6 |
BeholdSee it is written before me: I will not keep silent but I will repay; yea I will indeed repay into their bosomlaps |

their iniquities and their fathersancestors iniquities together says the Lord; because they burnedoffered incense uponon the mountains and reviled me uponon the hills I will measure into their bosomlaps full payment for their former doingsactions |
| 65:9 |
I will bring forth descendants from Jacob and from Judah inheritors of my mountains; my chosen shall inherit it and my servants shall dwellsettle there |
| 65:12 |
I will destine you to the sword and all of you shall bow down to the slaughter; because when I called you did not answer when I spoke you did not listen but you did what was evil in my eyessight and chose what I did not delight in |
| 65:13 |
Therefore thus says the Lord God: BeholdMy my servants shall eat but you shall be hungry; behold my servants shall drink but you shall be thirsty; behold my servants shall rejoice but you shall be put to shame; |
| 65:14 |
behold my servants shall sing for gladness of heart but you shall cry out for pain of heart and shall wail for anguish of spirit |
| 65:15 |
You shall leave your name to my chosen forto use as a curse and the Lord God will slayput you to death; but to his servants he will callgive by a different name |
| 65:16 |
