| 1:1 |
InLong manyago andGod variousspoke waysto Godour spokeancestors ofin oldmany toand ourvarious fathersways by the prophets; |
| 1:2 |
but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son whom he appointed the heir of all things through whom he also he created the worldworlds |
| 1:3 |
He reflectsis the gloryreflection of GodGods glory and bears the veryexact stampimprint of hisGods naturevery upholdingbeing theand universehe sustains all things by his powerful word of power When he had made purification for sins he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high |
| 1:4 |
having become as much superior to angels as the name he has obtainedinherited is more excellent than theirs |
| 1:5 |
For to whatwhich angelof the angels did God ever say ThouYou artare my Son; today I have begotten theeyou Or again I will be tohis himFather a father and he shallwill be tomy me a sonSon |
| 1:6 |
And again when he brings the firstfirstborn born into the world he says Let all Gods angels worship him |
| 1:7 |
Of the angels he says WhoHe makes his angels winds and his servants flames of fire |
| 1:8 |
But of the Son he says ThyYour throne O God is forforever and ever and ever the righteous scepter is the scepter of thyyour kingdom |
| 1:9 |
ThouYou hasthave loved righteousness and hated lawlessnesswickedness; therefore God thyyour God has anointed theeyou with the oil of gladness beyond thyyour comradescompanions |
| 1:10 |
And ThouIn the beginning Lord didstyou foundfounded the earth in the beginning and the heavens are the work of thyyour hands; |
| 1:11 |
they will perish but thouyou remainestremain; they will all growwear oldout like a garmentclothing; |
| 1:12 |
like a mantlecloak thouyou wiltwill roll them up and like clothing they will be changed But thouyou artare the same and thyyour years will never end |
| 1:13 |
But to whatwhich angelof the angels has he ever said Sit at my right hand tilluntil I make thyyour enemies a stoolfootstool for thyyour feet |
| 1:14 |
Are they not all ministeringangels spirits in the divine service sent forth to serve for the sake of those who are to obtaininherit salvation |
| 2:1 |
Therefore we must pay thegreater closer attention to what we have heard lestso that we do not drift away from it |
| 2:2 |
For if the message declared bythrough angels was valid and every transgression or disobedience received a just retributionpenalty |
| 2:3 |
how shallcan we escape if we neglect suchso great a great salvation It was declared at first bythrough the Lord and it was attested to us by those who heard him |
| 2:4 |
while God alsoadded borehis witnesstestimony by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his own will |
| 2:5 |
ForNow itGod wasdid not tosubject angelsthe thatcoming God subjected the world toabout come of which we are speaking to angels |
| 2:6 |
ItBut someone has been testified somewhere What isare manhuman beings that thouyou artare mindful of himthem or themortals son of man that thouyou carestcare for himthem |
| 2:7 |
ThouYou didsthave makemade himthem for a little while lower than the angels; thouyou hasthave crowned himthem with glory and honor |
| 2:8 |
puttingsubjecting everythingall inthings subjection under histheir feet Now in puttingsubjecting everythingall inthings subjection to himthem heGod left nothing outside histheir control As it is we do not yet see everything in subjection to himthem |
| 2:9 |
Butbut we do see Jesus who for a little while was made lower than the angels now crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death so that by the grace of God he might taste death for every oneeveryone |
| 2:10 |
ForIt it was fitting that heGod for whom and bythrough whom all things exist in bringing many sonschildren to glory should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through sufferingsufferings |
| 2:11 |
For hethe one who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have all one originFather ThatFor isthis whyreason heJesus is not ashamed to call them brethrenbrothers and sisters |
| 2:12 |
saying I will proclaim thyyour name to my brethrenbrothers and sisters in the midst of the congregation I will praise theeyou |
| 2:13 |
And again I will put my trust in him And again Here am I and the children whom God has given me |
| 2:14 |
Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood he himself likewise partookshared of the same naturethings so that through death he might destroy himthe one who has the power of death that is the devil |
| 2:15 |
and deliverfree all those who throughall feartheir oflives death were subjectheld toin lifelongslavery bondageby the fear of death |
| 2:16 |
For surely it is notclear with angels that he isdid concernednot come to help angels but with the descendants of Abraham |
| 2:17 |
Therefore he had to bebecome made like his brethrenbrothers and sisters in every respect so that he might becomebe a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God to make expiationa sacrifice of atonement for the sins of the people |
| 2:18 |
ForBecause because he himself haswas sufferedtested andby beenwhat temptedhe suffered he is able to help those who are temptedbeing tested |
| 3:1 |
Therefore holybrothers brethrenand whosisters shareholy partners in a heavenly callcalling consider that Jesus the apostle and high priest of our confession |
| 3:2 |
He was faithful to himthe one who appointed him just as Moses also was faithful in all Gods house |
| 3:3 |
Yet Jesus hasis been counted worthy of as much more glory than Moses just as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself |
| 3:4 |
For every house is built by somesomeone one but the builder of all things is God |
| 3:5 |
Now Moses was faithful in all Gods house as a servant to testify to the things that werewould to be spoken later |
| 3:6 |
but Christ however was faithful over Gods house as a son Andand we are his house if we hold fastfirm ourthe confidence and the pride inthat ourbelong to hope |
| 3:7 |
Therefore as the Holy Spirit says Today whenif you hear his voice |
| 3:8 |
do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion as on the day of testing in the wilderness |
| 3:9 |
where your fathersancestors put me to the test andthough sawthey had seen my works for forty years |
| 3:10 |
for forty years Therefore I was provokedangry with that generation and I said They always go astray in their hearts; and they have not known my ways |
| 3:11 |
As I swore in my wrathanger I swore They shallwill nevernot enter my rest |
| 3:12 |
Take care brethrenbrothers lestand theresisters bethat innone any of you may have an evil unbelieving heart leadingthat youturns to fall away from the living God |
| 3:13 |
But exhort one another every day as long as it is called today so that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin |
| 3:14 |
For we sharehave inbecome partners of Christ if only we hold our first confidence firm to the end |
| 3:15 |
whileAs it is said Today whenif you hear his voice do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion |
| 3:16 |
WhoNow who were they thatwho heard and yet were rebellious Was it not all those who left Egypt under the leadership of Moses |
| 3:17 |
AndBut with whom was he provokedangry forty years Was it not with those who sinned whose bodies fell in the wilderness |
| 3:18 |
And to whom did he swear that they shouldwould nevernot enter his rest butif not to those who were disobedient |
| 4:1 |
Therefore while the promise of entering his rest remainsis still open let us feartake lestcare anythat none of you beshould judgedseem to have failed to reach it |
| 4:2 |
For indeed the good news came to us just as to them; but the message which they heard did not benefit them because itthey didwere not meetunited withby faith inwith thethose hearerswho listened |
| 4:3 |
For we who have believed enter that rest just as heGod has said As I swore in my wrathanger I swore They shall nevernot enter my rest althoughthough his works were finished fromat the foundation of the world |
| 4:4 |
For hein hasone somewhereplace spokenit ofspeaks about the seventh day inas thisfollows way And God rested on the seventh day from all his works |
| 4:5 |
And again in this place heit saidsays They shall nevernot enter my rest |
| 4:6 |
Since therefore it remains open for some to enter it and those who formerly received the good news failed to enter because of disobedience |
| 4:7 |
again he sets a certain day Today —today—saying through David somuch longlater afterward in the words already quoted Today whenif you hear his voice do not harden your hearts |
| 4:8 |
For if Joshua had given them rest God would not speak later ofabout another day |
| 4:9 |
So then there remains a sabbath rest still remains for the people of God; |
| 4:10 |
for whoeverthose enterswho enter Gods rest also ceasescease from histheir labors as God did from his |
| 4:11 |
Let us therefore strivemake every effort to enter that rest so that no one may fall bythrough thesuch samedisobedience sortas of disobedience theirs |
| 4:12 |
ForIndeed the word of God is living and active sharper than any two edged sword piercing tountil theit divisiondivides of soul andfrom spirit of joints andfrom marrow; andit discerningis able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart |
| 4:13 |
And before him no creature is hidden but all are opennaked and laid bare to the eyes of himthe withone to whom we havemust torender doan account |
| 4:14 |
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens Jesus the Son of God let us hold fast to our confession |
| 4:15 |
For we havedo not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses but we have one who in every respect has been temptedtested as we are yet without sin |
| 4:16 |
Let us thentherefore withapproach confidence draw near to the throne of grace with boldness so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need |
| 5:1 |
ForEvery every high priest chosen from among menmortals is appointedput toin actcharge on behalf of menthings inpertaining relation to God on their behalf to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins |
| 5:2 |
He canis able to deal gently with the ignorant and wayward since he himself is besetsubject withto weakness; |
| 5:3 |
Becauseand because of this he ismust bound to offer sacrifice for his own sins as well as for those of the people |
| 5:4 |
And one does not presume to take thethis honor uponbut himselftakes butit heonly iswhen called by God just as Aaron was |
| 5:5 |
So also Christ did not exaltglorify himself toin bebecoming made a high priest but was appointed by himthe one who said to him ThouYou artare my Son today I have begotten theeyou; |
| 5:6 |
as he says also in another place ThouYou artare a priest forforever everaccording afterto the order of Melchiz′edekMelchizedek |
| 5:7 |
In the days of his flesh Jesus offered up prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to himthe one who was able to save him from death and he was heard forbecause of his godlyreverent fearsubmission |
| 5:9 |
and beinghaving been made perfect he became the source of eternal salvation tofor all who obey him |
| 5:10 |
beinghaving been designated by God a high priest afteraccording to the order of Melchiz′edekMelchizedek |
| 5:11 |
About this we have much to say whichthat is hard to explain since you have become dull ofin hearingunderstanding |
| 5:12 |
For though by this time you ought to be teachers you need somesomeone one to teach you again the firstbasic principleselements of Godsthe wordoracles of God You need milk not solid food; |
| 5:13 |
for everyeveryone one who lives on milk being still an infant is unskilled in the word of righteousness for he is a child |
| 5:14 |
But solid food is for the mature for those whowhose faculties have theirbeen faculties trained by practice to distinguish good from evil |
| 6:1 |
Therefore let us leavego theon elementarytoward doctrineperfection ofleaving Christbehind andthe gobasic onteaching toabout maturityChrist and not laying again athe foundation: of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God |
| 6:2 |
with instruction about ablutionsbaptisms the laying on of hands the resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment |
| 6:3 |
And this we will do this if God permits |
| 6:4 |
For it is impossible to restore again to repentance those who have once been enlightened whoand have tasted the heavenly gift and have becomeshared partakersin of the Holy Spirit |
| 6:6 |
ifand they then commithave apostasyfallen away since on their own they crucifyare crucifying again the Son of God onand theirare ownholding account and hold him up to contempt |
| 6:7 |
ForGround landthat whichdrinks hasup drunk the rain thatfalling oftenon fallsit uponrepeatedly it and bringsthat forthproduces vegetationa crop useful to those for whosewhom sake it is cultivated receives a blessing from God |
| 6:8 |
But if it bearsproduces thorns and thistles it is worthless and nearon tothe verge of being cursed; its end is to be burned over |
| 6:9 |
ThoughEven though we speak thus yet in yourthis caseway beloved we feelare sureconfident of better things in your case things that belong to salvation |
| 6:10 |
For God is not so unjust; ashe towill not overlook your work and the love whichthat you showed for his sake in serving the saints as you still do |
| 6:11 |
And we desirewant each one of you to show the same earnestnessdiligence inso realizingas to realize the full assurance of hope untilto the very end |
| 6:12 |
so that you may not bebecome sluggish but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises |
| 6:13 |
ForWhen when God made a promise to Abraham sincebecause he had no one greater by whom to swear he swore by himself |
| 6:14 |
saying Surely I will surely bless you and multiply you |
| 6:16 |
MenHuman indeedbeings of course swear by asomeone greater than themselves and inan alloath theirgiven disputesas confirmation puts an oathend isto finalall fordispute confirmation |
| 6:17 |
SoIn the same way when God desired to show even more convincinglyclearly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose he interposedguaranteed withit by an oath |
| 6:18 |
so that through two unchangeable things in which it is impossible that God shouldwould prove false we who have fledtaken for refuge might havebe strongstrongly encouragementencouraged to seize the hope set before us |
| 6:19 |
We have this ashope a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul a hope that enters into the inner shrine behind the curtain |
| 6:20 |
where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf has entered having become a high priest forforever everaccording afterto the order of Melchiz′edekMelchizedek |
| 7:1 |
ForThis thisKing Melchiz′edekMelchizedek king of Salem priest of the Most High God met Abraham as he was returning from thedefeating slaughter of the kings and blessed him; |
| 7:2 |
and to him Abraham apportioned aone tenth part of everything HeHis isname firstin bythe translationfirst ofplace hismeans name king of righteousness; andnext then he is also king of Salem that is king of peace |
| 7:3 |
HeWithout isfather without father or mother orwithout genealogy andhaving has neither beginning of days nor end of life but resembling the Son of God he continuesremains a priest for everforever |
| 7:4 |
See how great he is Even Abraham the patriarch gave him a tithetenth of the spoils |
| 7:5 |
And those descendants of Levi who receive the priestly office have a commandment in the law to takecollect tithes from the people that is from their brethrenkindred though these also are descended from Abraham |
| 7:6 |
But this man who hasdoes not belong to their genealogyancestry receivedcollected tithes from Abraham and blessed him who had received the promises |
| 7:8 |
HereIn the one case tithes are received by those who are mortal men; therein the other by one of whom it is testified that he lives |
| 7:10 |
for he was still in the loins of his ancestor when Melchiz′edekMelchizedek met him |
| 7:11 |
Now if perfection had been attainable through the Levit′icallevitical priesthood —for under it the people received the law under this priesthood—what further need would there have been forto speak of another priest toarising ariseaccording afterto the order of Melchiz′edekMelchizedek rather than one namedaccording afterto the order of Aaron |
| 7:13 |
ForNow the one of whom these things are spoken belonged to another tribe from which no one has ever served at the altar |
| 7:15 |
ThisIt becomesis even more evidentobvious when another priest arises inresembling theMelchizedek likeness of Melchiz′edek |
| 7:16 |
one who has become a priest not accordingthrough to a legal requirement concerning bodilyphysical descent but bythrough the power of an indestructible life |
| 7:17 |
For it is witnessedattested of him ThouYou artare a priest forforever everaccording afterto the order of Melchiz′edekMelchizedek |
| 7:18 |
OnThere is on the one hand athe formerabrogation commandmentof isan setearlier asidecommandment because ofit itswas weaknessweak and uselessnessineffectual |
| 7:19 |
for the law made nothing perfect; there is on the other hand the introduction of a better hope is introduced through which we drawapproach near to God |
| 7:20 |
AndThis it was notconfirmed with an oath; for others who became priests took their office without an oath |
| 7:21 |
Thosebut whothis formerlyone became priestsa tookpriest theirwith office without an oath butbecause thisof the one waswho addressedsaid withto anhim oath The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind ThouYou artare a priest forforever ever— |
| 7:22 |
Thisaccordingly makes Jesus has also become the suretyguarantee of a better covenant |
| 7:23 |
TheFurthermore the former priests were many in number because they were prevented by death from continuing in office; |
| 7:24 |
but he holds his priesthood permanently because he continues forforever ever |
| 7:25 |
Consequently he is able for all time to save those who drawapproach near to God through him since he always lives to make intercession for them |
| 7:26 |
For it was fitting that we should have such a high priest holy blameless unstainedundefiled separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens |
| 7:27 |
HeUnlike hasthe noother needhigh likepriests thosehe highhas priestsno need to offer sacrifices dailyday after day first for his own sins and then for those of the people; this he did this once for all when he offered up himself |
| 7:28 |
IndeedFor the law appoints menas inhigh theirpriests weaknessthose aswho highare priestssubject to weakness but the word of the oath which came later than the law appoints a Son who has been made perfect for everforever |
| 8:1 |
Now the main point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaventhe heavens |
| 8:2 |
a minister in the sanctuary and the true tent whichthat isthe setLord upand not byany manmortal buthas byset theup Lord |
| 8:5 |
They serveoffer worship in a copysanctuary that is a sketch and shadow of the heavenly sanctuaryone; for Moses when Moseshe was about to erect the tent he was instructedwarned by God saying See that you make everything according to the pattern whichthat was shown you on the mountain |
| 8:6 |
But asJesus ithas isnow Christ has obtained a ministrymore whichexcellent isministry asand muchto morethat excellentdegree thanhe theis old as the covenantmediator heof mediatesa is better sincecovenant itwhich ishas been enacted onthrough better promises |
| 8:7 |
For if that first covenant had been faultless there would have been no occasionneed to look for a second one |
| 8:8 |
ForGod he finds fault with them when he says: The days willare comesurely coming says the Lord when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah; |
| 8:9 |
not like the covenant that I made with their fathersancestors on the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; for they did not continue in my covenant and so I paidhad no heedconcern tofor them says the Lord |
| 8:10 |
This is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days says the Lord: I will put my laws intoin their minds and write them on their hearts and I will be their God and they shall be my people |
| 8:11 |
And they shall not teach every one hisanother fellow or everysay oneto hiseach brotherother saying Know the Lord for allthey shall all know me from the least of them to the greatest |
| 8:13 |
In speaking of a new covenant he treatshas made the first asone obsolete And what is becoming obsolete and growing old iswill readysoon to vanish awaydisappear |
| 9:2 |
For a tent was preparedconstructed the outerfirst one in which were the lampstand and the table and the bread of the Presence; itthis is called the Holy Place |
| 9:3 |
Behind the second curtain stoodwas a tent called the Holy of Holies |
| 9:4 |
havingIn it stood the golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant coveredoverlaid on all sides with gold in which containedthere were a golden urn holding the manna and Aarons rod that budded and the tablestablets of the covenant; |
| 9:5 |
above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat Of these things we cannot speak now speak in detail |
| 9:6 |
TheseSuch preparations having thus been made the priests go continually into the outerfirst tent performingto carry out their ritual duties; |
| 9:7 |
but into the second only the high priest goes into the second and he but once a year and not without taking the blood whichthat he offers for himself and for the errorssins ofcommitted unintentionally by the people |
| 9:8 |
By this the Holy Spirit indicates that the way into the sanctuary ishas not yet openedbeen disclosed as long as the outerfirst tent is still standing |
| 9:9 |
whichThis is symbolica forsymbol of the present agetime Accordingduring towhich this arrangement gifts and sacrifices are offered whichthat cannot perfect the conscience of the worshiper |
| 9:10 |
but deal only with food and drink and various ablutionsbaptisms regulations for the body imposed until the time ofcomes reformationto set things right |
| 9:11 |
But when Christ appearedcame as a high priest of the good things that have come then through the greater and more perfect tent not made with hands that is not of this creation |
| 9:12 |
he entered once for all into the Holy Place taking not with the blood of goats and calves but with his own blood thus securingobtaining an eternal redemption |
| 9:13 |
For if the sprinkling of defiled persons with the blood of goats and bulls and with the sprinkling of the ashes of a heifer sanctifies forthose thewho purificationhave ofbeen thedefiled so that their flesh is purified |
| 9:14 |
how much more shallwill the blood of Christ who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God purify yourour conscience from dead works to serveworship the living God |
| 9:15 |
ThereforeFor this reason he is the mediator of a new covenant so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance sincebecause a death has occurred whichthat redeems them from the transgressions under the first covenant |
| 9:16 |
ForWhere where a will is involved the death of the one who made it must be established |
| 9:18 |
Hence not even the first covenant was notinaugurated ratified without blood |
| 9:19 |
For when every commandment ofhad thebeen lawtold hadto beenall declaredthe people by Moses toin allaccordance with the peoplelaw he took the blood of calves and goats with water and scarlet wool and hyssop and sprinkled both the bookscroll itself and all the people |
| 9:20 |
saying This is the blood of the covenant whichthat God commandedhas ordained for you |
| 9:23 |
Thus it was necessary for the copiessketches of the heavenly things to be purified with these rites but the heavenly things themselves withneed better sacrifices than these |
| 9:24 |
For Christ hasdid entered not intoenter a sanctuary made withby human hands a mere copy of the true one but he entered into heaven itself now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf |
| 9:25 |
Nor was it to offer himself repeatedlyagain and again as the high priest enters the Holy Place yearlyyear after year with blood that is not his own; |
| 9:26 |
for then he would have had to suffer repeatedlyagain and again since the foundation of the world But as it is he has appeared once for all at the end of the age to putremove away sin by the sacrifice of himself |
| 9:27 |
And just as it is appointed for menmortals to die once and after that comesthe judgment |
| 10:1 |
ForSince since the law has butonly a shadow of the good things to come insteadand ofnot the true form of these realities it can never by the same sacrifices whichthat are continually offered year after year make perfect those who drawapproach near |
| 10:2 |
Otherwise would they not have ceased tobeing be offered Ifsince the worshipers hadcleansed once beenfor cleansedall they would no longer have any consciousness of sin |
| 10:4 |
For it is impossible thatfor the blood of bulls and goats shouldto take away sins |
| 10:5 |
Consequently when Christ came into the world he said Sacrifices and offerings thouyou hasthave not desired but a body hastyou thouhave prepared for me; |
| 10:6 |
in burnt offerings and sin offerings thouyou hasthave taken no pleasure |
| 10:7 |
Then I said LoSee God I have come to do thyyour will O God asin itthe isscroll written of methe inbook theit rollis written of the bookme |
| 10:8 |
When he said above ThouYou hasthave neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings these are offered according to the law |
| 10:9 |
then he added LoSee I have come to do thyyour will He abolishes the first in order to establish the second |
| 10:10 |
And it is by thatGods will that we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all |
| 10:11 |
And every priest stands dailyday after day at his service offering repeatedlyagain and again the same sacrifices whichthat can never take away sins |
| 10:13 |
and since then tohas waitbeen waiting until his enemies shouldwould be made a stoolfootstool for his feet |
| 10:15 |
And the Holy Spirit also bearstestifies witness to us; for after saying |
| 10:16 |
This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days says the Lord: I will put my laws onin their hearts and I will write them on their minds |
| 10:17 |
then he also adds I will remember their sins and their misdeedslawless deeds no more |
| 10:19 |
Therefore brethrenmy friends since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus |
| 10:20 |
by the new and living way whichthat he opened for us through the curtain that is through his flesh |
| 10:22 |
let us drawapproach near with a true heart in full assurance of faith with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water |
| 10:23 |
Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering for he who has promised is faithful; |
| 10:24 |
andAnd let us consider how to stirprovoke up one another to love and good worksdeeds |
| 10:25 |
not neglecting to meet together as is the habit of some but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day drawing nearapproaching |
| 10:26 |
For if we willfully persist in sin deliberately after receivinghaving received the knowledge of the truth there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins |
| 10:27 |
but a fearful prospect of judgment and a fury of fire whichthat will consume the adversaries |
| 10:28 |
AAnyone man who has violated the law of Moses dies without mercy aton the testimony of two or three witnesses |
| 10:29 |
How much worse punishment do you think will be deserved by thethose man who hashave spurned the Son of God and profaned the blood of the covenant by which hethey waswere sanctified and outraged the Spirit of grace |
| 10:30 |
For we know himthe one who said Vengeance is mine I will repay And again The Lord will judge his people |
| 10:32 |
But recall thethose formerearlier days when after you werehad been enlightened you endured a hard struggle with sufferings |
| 10:33 |
sometimes being publicly exposed to abuse and afflictionpersecution and sometimes being partners with those so treated |
| 10:34 |
For you had compassion onfor thethose prisonerswho were in prison and you joyfullycheerfully accepted the plundering of your propertypossessions sinceknowing you knew that you yourselves hadpossessed asomething better possession and anmore abidinglasting one |
| 10:35 |
ThereforeDo do not throwtherefore awayabandon yourthat confidence whichof hasyours; it brings a great reward |
| 10:36 |
For you have need of endurance so that when you mayhave dodone the will of God andyou may receive what iswas promised |
| 10:37 |
For yet in a very little while and the one who is coming onewill shall come and shallwill not tarrydelay; |
| 10:38 |
but my righteous one shallwill live by faith andMy if he shrinks back my soul hastakes no pleasure in himanyone who shrinks back |
| 10:39 |
But we are not ofamong those who shrink back and so are destroyedlost but ofamong those who have faith and keepso theirare soulssaved |
| 11:2 |
ForIndeed by itfaith theour menancestors of old received divine approval |
| 11:3 |
By faith we understand that the worldworlds waswere createdprepared by the word of God so that what is seen was made outfrom of things whichthat doare not appearvisible |
| 11:4 |
By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than CainCains throughThrough whichthis he received approval as righteous God bearinghimself witnessgiving byapproval acceptingto his gifts; he died but through his faith he is still speakingspeaks |
| 11:5 |
By faith Enoch was taken up so that he shoulddid not seeexperience death; and he was not found because God had taken him NowFor it was attested before he was taken heaway wasthat attestedhe ashad having pleased God |
| 11:6 |
And without faith it is impossible to please himGod Forfor whoever would drawapproach nearhim to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him |
| 11:7 |
By faith Noah being warned by God concerningabout events as yet unseen tookrespected heedthe warning and constructedbuilt an ark forto thesave saving of his household; by this he condemned the world and became an heir ofto the righteousness whichthat comesis byin accordance with faith |
| 11:8 |
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to goset out tofor a place whichthat he was to receive as an inheritance; and he wentset out not knowing where he was togoing go |
| 11:9 |

since God had foreseenprovided something better forso us that they would not apart from us they should not be made perfect |
| 12:1 |
Therefore since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses let us also lay aside every weight and the sin whichthat clings so closely and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us |
| 12:2 |
looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross despisingdisregarding theits shame and ishas seatedtaken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God |
| 12:3 |
Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself from sinners so that you may not grow weary or faintheartedlose heart |
| 12:5 |
And you have you forgotten the exhortation whichthat addresses you as sonschildren— My sonchild do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord noror lose courageheart when you are punished by him; |
| 12:6 |
Forfor the Lord disciplines himthose whom he loves and chastises every sonchild whom he receivesaccepts |

| 12:10 |
For they disciplined us for a short time atas theirseemed pleasurebest to them but he disciplines us for our good in order that we may share his holiness |

| 12:23 |
and to the assembly of the firstfirstborn born who are enrolled in heaven and to aGod the judge who is God of all and to the spirits of justthe menrighteous made perfect |
| 12:24 |
and to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant and to the sprinkled blood that speaks morea graciouslybetter word than the blood of Abel |
| 12:25 |
See that you do not refuse himthe one who is speaking; Forfor if they did not escape when they refused himthe one who warned them on earth how much less shallwill we escape if we reject himthe one who warns from heaven |
| 12:26 |
HisAt that time his voice then shook the earth; but now he has promised Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heaven |
| 12:27 |
This phrase Yet once more indicates the removal of what is shaken—that asis ofcreated whatthings—so has been made in order that what cannot be shaken may remain |
| 12:28 |
Therefore letsince uswe beare grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken and thus let us give thanks by which we offer to God an acceptable worship with reverence and awe; |
| 12:29 |
for indeed our God is a consuming fire |
| 13:1 |

| 13:7 |
Remember your leaders those who spoke to you the word of God to you; consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith |
| 13:8 |
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forforever ever |
| 13:9 |
Do not be ledcarried away by diverseall andkinds of strange teachings; for it is well thatfor the heart to be strengthened by grace not by foodsregulations about food which have not benefited theirthose adherentswho observe them |
| 13:10 |
We have an altar from which those who serveofficiate in the tent have no right to eat |
| 13:12 |
SoTherefore Jesus also suffered outside the city gate in order to sanctify the people throughby his own blood |
| 13:13 |
ThereforeLet let us then go forth to him outside the camp and bear the abuse he endured |
