1:1 Paul an apostle—notsent fromneither menby human commission nor throughfrom manhuman authorities but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised him from the dead—
1:2 and all the brethrenmembers of Gods family who are with me To the churches of Galatia:
1:3 Grace to you and peace from God theour Father and ourthe Lord Jesus Christ
1:4 who gave himself for our sins to deliverset us free from the present evil age according to the will of our God and Father;
1:5 to whom be the glory forforever ever and ever Amen
1:6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting himthe one who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—
1:7 not that there is another gospel but there are some who troubleare confusing you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ
1:8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preachproclaim to you a gospel contrary to thatwhat which we preachedproclaimed to you let himthat one be accursed
1:9 As we have said before so now I sayrepeat againif Ifanyone anyproclaims one is preaching to you a gospel contrary to thatwhat which you received let himthat one be accursed
1:10 Am I now seeking thehuman favorapproval of men or ofGods Godapproval Or am I trying to please menpeople If I were still pleasing menpeople I shouldwould not be a servant of Christ
1:11 For I wouldwant have you to know brethrenbrothers and sisters that the gospel whichthat was preachedproclaimed by me is not mansof gospelhuman origin;
1:12 Forfor I did not receive it from mana human source nor was I taught it but I received it came through a revelation of Jesus Christ
1:13 ForYou you have heard no doubt of my formerearlier life in Judaism how I persecutedwas violently persecuting the church of God violently and triedwas trying to destroy it;
1:14 and I advanced in Judaism beyond many ofamong my ownpeople of the same age amongfor myI peoplewas sofar extremelymore zealous was I for the traditions of my fathersancestors
1:15 But when heGod who had set me apart before I was born and had called me through his grace was pleased
1:16 was pleased to reveal his Son to me inso order that I might preachproclaim him among the Gentiles I did not confer with fleshany andhuman bloodbeing
1:17 nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were already apostles before me but I went away at once into Arabia; and againafterwards I returned to Damascus
1:18 Then after three years I wentdid go up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas and remainedstayed with him fifteen days;
1:19 Butbut I sawdid nonenot ofsee theany other apostlesapostle except James the Lords brother
1:21 Then I went into the regions of Syria and Cili′ciaCilicia
1:22 Andand I was still notunknown known by sight to the churches of ChristJudea that are in JudeaChrist;
1:23 they only heard it said HeThe one who onceformerly persecutedwas persecuting us is now preachingproclaiming the faith he once tried to destroy
2:2 I went up byin response to a revelation; andThen I laid before them butthough privatelyonly beforein thosea whoprivate weremeeting ofwith reputethe acknowledged leaders the gospel whichthat I preachproclaim among the Gentiles lestin somehoworder to make sure that I shouldwas benot running or had not run in vain
2:4 But because of false brethrenbelievers secretly brought in who slipped in to spy outon ourthe freedom which we have in Christ Jesus so that they might bringenslave us into bondage—
2:5 to them we did not yieldsubmit submissionto them even for a moment so that the truth of the gospel might bealways preservedremain forwith you
2:6 And from those who were reputedsupposed to be somethingacknowledged leaders what they actually were makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality—those Ileaders saycontributed who were of repute added nothing to me;
2:7 butOn on the contrary when they saw that I had been entrusted with the gospel tofor the uncircumcised just as Peter had been entrusted with the gospel tofor the circumcised
2:8 for he who worked through Peter formaking thehim missionan apostle to the circumcised also worked through me alsoin forsending me to the Gentiles
2:9 and when theyJames perceivedand theCephas graceand thatJohn waswho givenwere toacknowledged mepillars Jamesrecognized andthe Cephasgrace andthat Johnhad whobeen weregiven reputed to beme pillarsthey gave to meBarnabas and Barnabasme the right hand of fellowship agreeing that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised;
2:10 They asked only theyone wouldthing havethat uswe remember the poor which verywas thingactually what I was eager to do
2:11 But when Cephas came to Antioch I opposed him to his face because he stood self condemned;
2:12 Forfor beforeuntil certain menpeople came from James he ateused to eat with the Gentiles; butBut whenafter they came he drew back and separatedkept himself fearingseparate for fear of the circumcision partyfaction
2:13 And withthe himother theJews restjoined ofhim thein Jewsthis actedhypocrisy insincerely so that even Barnabas was carriedled awayastray by their insincerityhypocrisy
2:14 But when I saw that they were not straightforwardacting aboutconsistently with the truth of the gospel I said to Cephas before them all If you though a Jew live like a Gentile and not like a Jew how can you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews
2:15 We ourselves who are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners;
2:16 yet whowe know that a manperson is justified not justified by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ evenAnd we have believedcome to believe in Christ Jesus inso orderthat towe might be justified by faith in Christ and not by doing the works of the law because no one will be justified by the works of the law shall no one be justified
2:17 But if in our endeavoreffort to be justified in Christ we ourselves werehave been found to be sinners is Christ then ana agentservant of sin Certainly not
2:18 But if I build up again thosethe very things whichthat I once tore down then I provedemonstrate myselfthat I am a transgressor
2:19 For I through the law I died to the law so that I might live to God I have been crucified with Christ;
2:20 Iand have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live but it is Christ who lives in me; andAnd the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me
2:21 I do not nullify the grace of God; for if justification werecomes through the law then Christ died tofor no purposenothing
3:1 OYou foolish Galatians Who has bewitched you It was before whoseyour eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayedexhibited as crucified
3:2 LetThe meonly askthing I want to learn from you onlyis this: Did you receive the Spirit by doing the works of the law or by hearingbelieving withwhat faithyou heard
3:3 Are you so foolish Having begunstarted with the Spirit are you now ending with the flesh
3:4 Did you experience so manymuch thingsfor in vainnothing—if it really iswas infor vainnothing
3:5 DoesWell hethen whodoes suppliesGod supply you with the Spirit to you and workswork miracles among you doby soyour bydoing the works of the law or by hearingyour withbelieving faithwhat you heard
3:6 ThusJust as Abraham believed God and it was reckoned to him as righteousness
3:7 Soso you see thatthose itwho isbelieve men of faith who are the sonsdescendants of Abraham
3:8 And the scripture foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith preacheddeclared the gospel beforehand to Abraham saying InAll youthe Gentiles shall allbe theblessed nationsin beyou blessed
3:9 SoFor thenthis reason those who arebelieve men of faith are blessed with Abraham who had faithbelieved
3:10 For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse; for it is written Cursed beis everyeveryone one who does not abideobserve byand obey all the things written in the book of the law and do them
3:11 Now it is evident that no manone is justified before God by the law; for HeThe one who through faith is righteous shallwill live; by faith
3:12 butBut the law does not rest on faith; foron Hethe whocontrary Whoever does themthe shallworks of the law will live by them
3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law havingby becomebecoming a curse for us—for it is written Cursed beis everyeveryone one who hangs on a tree—
3:14 in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come uponto the Gentiles so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith
3:15 ToBrothers and sisters I give aan human example brethren:from nodaily onelife: annulsonce even a manspersons will orhas been ratified no one adds to it onceor annuls it has been ratified
3:16 Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring; Itit does not say And to offsprings referringas toof many; but referringit tosays one And to your offspring whichthat is to one person who is Christ
3:17 ThisMy point is what I meanthis: the law which came four hundred and thirty years afterwardlater does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God so as to makenullify the promise void
3:18 For if the inheritance iscomes byfrom the law it is no longer bycomes from the promise; but God gavegranted it to Abraham bythrough athe promise
3:19 Why then the law It was added because of transgressions tilluntil the offspring shouldwould come to whom the promise had been made; and it was ordained bythrough angels throughby ana intermediarymediator
3:20 Now ana intermediarymediator impliesinvolves more than one party; but God is one
3:21 Is the law then againstopposed to the promises of God Certainly not; forFor if a law had been given whichthat could make alive then righteousness would indeed become bythrough the law
3:22 But the scripture consignedhas imprisoned all things tounder the power of sin so that what was promised tothrough faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe
3:23 Now before faith came we were confinedimprisoned and guarded under the law kept under restraint until faith shouldwould be revealed
3:24 SoTherefore that the law was our custodiandisciplinarian until Christ came so that we might be justified by faith
3:25 But now that faith has come we are no longer undersubject to a custodian;disciplinarian
3:26 for in Christ Jesus you are all sonschildren of God through faith
3:27 ForAs as many of you as were baptized into Christ have putclothed onyourselves with Christ
3:28 There is neitherno longer Jew noror Greek there is neitherno longer slave noror free there is neitherno longer male norand female; for all of you are all one in Christ Jesus
3:29 And if you arebelong Christsto Christ then you are Abrahams offspring heirs according to the promise
4:1 IMy meanpoint thatis thethis: heirheirs as long as hethey isare aminors childare is no better than aslaves slave though hethey isare the ownerowners of all the estateproperty;
4:2 but hethey isremain under guardians and trustees until the date set by the father
4:3 So with us; whenwhile we were childrenminors we were slavesenslaved to the elemental spirits of the universeworld
4:4 But when the fullness of time had fully come God sent forth his Son born of a woman born under the law
4:5 in order to redeem those who were under the law so that we might receive adoption as sonschildren
4:6 And because you are sonschildren God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts crying Abba Father
4:7 So through God you are no longer a slave but a sonchild and if a sonchild then also an heir through God
4:8 Formerly when you did not know God you were inenslaved bondage to beings that by nature are nonot gods;
4:9 butNow nowhowever that you have come to know God or rather to be known by God how can you turn back again to the weak and beggarly elemental spirits whoseHow slavescan you want to be onceenslaved moreto them again
4:10 You observeare observing special days and months and seasons and years
4:11 I am afraid Ithat havemy laboredwork overfor you inmay vainhave been wasted
4:12 BrethrenFriends I beseechbeg you become as I am for I also have become as you are You didhave done me no wrong;
4:13 youYou know that it was because of a bodilyphysical ailmentinfirmity that I preachedfirst announced the gospel to you at first;
4:14 and though my condition wasput ayou trial to youthe test you did not scorn or despise me but receivedwelcomed me as an angel of God as Christ Jesus
4:15 What has become of the satisfactiongoodwill you felt For I beartestify youthat witnesshad thatit ifbeen possible you would have pluckedtorn out your eyes and given them to me
4:16 Have I thennow become your enemy by telling you the truth
4:17 They make much of you but for no good purpose; they want to shutexclude you outso that you may make much of them
4:18 ForIt a good purpose it is always good to be made much of for a good purpose at all times and not only when I am present with you
4:19 My little children withfor whom I am again in travailthe pain of childbirth until Christ beis formed in you
4:20 I could wish toI bewere present with you now and tocould change my tone for I am perplexed about you
4:21 Tell me you who desire to be undersubject to the law dowill you not hearlisten to the law
4:22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons one by a slave woman and onethe other by a free woman
4:23 ButOne the sonchild of the slave was born according to the flesh; the sonother the child of the free woman was born through the promise
4:24 Now this is an allegory: these women are two covenants One woman in fact is Hagar from Mount Sinai bearing children for slavery; she is Hagar
4:25 Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia; sheand corresponds to the present Jerusalem for she is in slavery with her children
4:26 But the other woman corresponds to the Jerusalem above; she is free and she is our mother
4:27 For it is written Rejoice Oyou barrenchildless one you who doesbear notno bear;children breakburst forthinto song and shout you who areendure notno inbirth travailpangs; for the children of the desolate onewoman are many more numerous than the children of herthe thatone who is married
4:28 Now weyou brethrenmy likefriends Isaac are children of the promise like Isaac
4:29 But just as at that time hethe child who was born according to the flesh persecuted himthe child who was born according to the Spirit so it is now also
4:30 But what does the scripture say CastDrive out the slave and her sonchild; for the sonchild of the slave shallwill not inheritshare the inheritance with the sonchild of the free woman
4:31 So brethrenthen friends we are children not children of the slave but of the free woman
5:1 For freedom Christ has set us free; standStand fastfirm therefore and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery
5:2 NowListen I Paul sayam totelling you that if you receivelet circumcisionyourselves be circumcised Christ will be of no advantagebenefit to you
5:3 Once again I testify again to every man who receiveslets circumcisionhimself be circumcised that he is boundobliged to keepobey the wholeentire law
5:4 You arewho severedwant fromto Christ you who would be justified by the law have cut yourselves off from Christ; you have fallen away from grace
5:5 For through the Spirit by faith we eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness
5:6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision iscounts offor anyanything; availthe butonly thing that counts is faith working through love
5:7 You were running well; who hinderedprevented you from obeying the truth
5:8 ThisSuch persuasion isdoes not come from himthe one who calls you
5:9 A little leavenyeast leavens the whole lumpbatch of dough
5:10 I haveam confidenceconfident about you in the Lord that you will takenot nothink otherotherwise viewBut thanwhoever mine;it andis hethat who is troublingconfusing you will bearpay histhe judgmentpenalty whoever he is
5:11 But ifmy friends why am I brethren still preachbeing circumcisionpersecuted whyif I am I still persecutedpreaching circumcision In that case the stumblingoffense block of the cross has been removed
5:12 I wish those who unsettle you would mutilatecastrate themselves
5:13 For you were called to freedom brethrenbrothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for theself fleshindulgence but through love bebecome servantsslaves ofto one another
5:14 For the whole law is fulfilledsummed up in onea wordsingle commandment You shall love your neighbor as yourself
5:15 ButIf ifhowever you bite and devour one another take heedcare that you are not consumed by one another
5:16 ButLive I say walk by the Spirit I say and do not gratify the desires of the flesh
5:17 For what the flesh desires ofis theopposed fleshto are against the Spirit and what the Spirit desires ofis theopposed Spiritto are against the flesh; for these are opposed to each other to prevent you from doing what you wouldwant
5:18 But if you are led by the Spirit you are not undersubject to the law
5:19 Now the works of the flesh are plainobvious: fornication impurity licentiousness
5:20 idolatry sorcery enmityenmities strife jealousy anger selfishnessquarrels dissensiondissensions partyfactions spirit
5:21 envy drunkenness carousing and thethings like these I warnam warning you as I warned you before: that those who do such things shallwill not inherit the kingdom of God
5:22 ButBy contrast the fruit of the Spirit is love joy peace patience kindness goodnessgenerosity faithfulness
5:23 gentleness and self control; againstThere such there is no law against such things
5:25 If we live by the Spirit let us also walkbe guided by the Spirit
5:26 Let us havenot nobecome selfconceited conceitcompeting noagainst provoking of one another noenvying envy of one another
6:1 BrethrenMy friends if aanyone man is overtakendetected in anya trespasstransgression you who arehave spiritualreceived the Spirit should restore himsuch a one in a spirit of gentleness LookTake tocare yourselfthat lest you tooyourselves beare not tempted
6:2 Bear one anothers burdens and soin fulfilthis way you will fulfill the law of Christ
6:3 For if anythose onewho thinksare henothing isthink somethingthey whenare hesomething isthey nothingdeceive hethemselves deceives himself
6:4 ButAll letmust each one test histheir own work; and then histhat reasonwork torather boastthan willtheir beneighbors inwork himselfwill alonebecome anda notcause infor hispride neighbor
6:5 For eachall manmust willcarry havetheir to bear his own loadloads
6:6 LetThose him who isare taught the word must share in all good things with himtheir who teachesteacher
6:7 Do not be deceived; God is not mocked for whateveryou areap manwhatever sowsyou thatsow he will also reap
6:8 ForIf heyou whosow sows to hisyour own flesh you will reap corruption from the flesh reap corruption; but heif whoyou sowssow to the Spirit you will reap eternal life from the Spirit reap eternal life
6:9 AndSo let us not grow weary in well doing forwhat inis dueright seasonfor we shallwill reap at harvest time if we do not losegive heartup
6:10 So then aswhenever we have an opportunity let us dowork for the good toof all men and especially tofor those who are of the householdfamily of faith
6:11 See with what large letters I make when I am writing toin you with my own hand
6:12 It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh that wouldtry to compel you to be circumcised and —only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ
6:13 ForEven eventhe thosecircumcised who receive circumcision do not themselves keepobey the law but they desirewant you to havebe you circumcised so that they may gloryboast inabout your flesh
6:14 ButMay farI benever itboast fromof meanything to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ by which the world has been crucified to me and I to the world
6:15 For neither circumcision countsnor foruncircumcision is anything; nor uncircumcision but a new creation is everything
6:16 PeaceAs andfor mercythose be upon all who walkwill byfollow this rule—peace be upon them and mercy and upon the Israel of God
6:17 HenceforthFrom now on let no manone make trouble for me; for I bearcarry on my body the marks of Jesus branded on my body
6:18 TheMay the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit brethrenbrothers and sisters Amen
