Dan and Naph′taliNaphtali Gad and Asher |
| 1:5 |
AllThe thetotal offspringnumber of people born to Jacob werewas seventy persons; Joseph was already in Egypt |
| 1:6 |
Then Joseph died and all his brothers and all that whole generation |
| 1:7 |
But the descendantsIsraelites of Israel were fruitful and increased greatlyprolific; they multiplied and grew exceedingly strong; so that the land was filled with them |
| 1:8 |
Now there arose a new king arose over Egypt who did not know Joseph |
| 1:9 |
AndHe he said to his people BeholdLook the Israelite people of Israel are toomore manynumerous and toomore mightypowerful forthan uswe |
| 1:10 |
Come let us deal shrewdly with them lestor they multiplywill increase and ifin warthe befallevent usof theywar join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land |
| 1:11 |
Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflictoppress them with heavyforced burdens;labor andThey they built forsupply Pharaoh store cities Pithom and RaRameses am′sesfor Pharaoh |
| 1:12 |
But the more they were oppressed the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroadso Andthat the Egyptians werecame into dread of the peopleIsraelites of Israel |
| 1:13 |
SoThe theyEgyptians madebecame theruthless peoplein ofimposing Israeltasks serveon withthe rigorIsraelites |
| 1:14 |
and made their lives bitter with hard service in mortar and brick and in allevery kindskind of workfield inlabor theThey field;were ruthless in all theirthe worktasks that they madeimposed on them serve with rigor |
| 1:15 |
ThenThe the king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives one of whom was named Shiph′rahShiphrah and the other Pu′ahPuah |
| 1:16 |
When you serveact as midwifemidwives to the Hebrew women and see them uponon the birthstool if it is a sonboy you shall kill him; but if it is a daughtergirl she shall live |
| 1:17 |
But the midwives feared God; andthey did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them but they let the maleboys children live |
| 1:18 |
So the king of Egypt calledsummoned the midwives and said to them Why have you done this and letallowed the maleboys childrento live |
| 1:19 |
The midwives said to Pharaoh Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women; for they are vigorous and aregive deliveredbirth before the midwife comes to them |
| 1:20 |
So God dealt well with the midwives; and the people multiplied and grewbecame very strong |
| 1:22 |
Then Pharaoh commanded all his people Every sonboy that is born to the Hebrews you shall castthrow into the Nile but you shall let every daughtergirl live |
| 2:1 |
Now a man from the house of Levi went and tookmarried to wife a daughterLevite ofwoman Levi |
| 2:2 |
The woman conceived and bore a son; and when she saw that he was a goodlyfine childbaby she hid him three months |
| 2:3 |
AndWhen when she could hide him no longer she tookgot fora himpapyrus a basket madefor ofhim bulrushes and daubedplastered it with bitumen and pitch; and she put the child in it and placed it among the reeds aton the riversbank brinkof the river |
| 2:4 |
AndHis his sister stood at a distance to knowsee what would behappen done to him |
| 2:5 |
NowThe the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river andwhile her maidensattendants walked beside the river; sheShe saw the basket among the reeds and sent her maid to fetchbring it |
| 2:6 |
When she opened it she saw the child; andHe lo the babe was crying Sheand she took pity on him andThis saidmust Thisbe is one of the Hebrews children she said |
| 2:7 |
Then his sister said to Pharaohs daughter Shall I go and callget you a nurse from the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you |
| 2:8 |
And Pharaohs daughter said to her GoYes So the girl went and called the childs mother |
| 2:9 |
And Pharaohs daughter said to her Take this child away and nurse himit for me and I will give you your wages So the woman took the child and nursed himit |
| 2:10 |
AndWhen the child grew andup she brought him to Pharaohs daughter and heshe becametook him as her son; andShe she named him Moses forbecause she said Because I drew him out of the water |
| 2:11 |
One day whenafter Moses had grown up he went out to his people and lookedsaw on their burdens;forced andlabor heHe saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew one of his peoplekinsfolk |
| 2:13 |
When he went out the next day beholdhe saw two Hebrews were struggling togetherfighting; and he said to the manone thatwho didwas in the wrong Why do you strike your fellow Hebrew |
| 2:14 |
He answered Who made you a princeruler and a judge over us Do you mean to kill me as you killed the Egyptian Then Moses was afraid and thought Surely the thing is known |
| 2:15 |
When Pharaoh heard of it he sought to kill Moses But Moses fled from Pharaoh andHe stayedsettled in the land of Mid′ian;Midian and he sat down by a well |
| 2:16 |
NowThe the priest of Mid′ianMidian had seven daughters; andThey they came andto drewdraw water and filled the troughs to water their fathers flock |
| 2:17 |
TheBut some shepherds came and drove them away; but Moses stoodgot up and helpedcame themto their defense and watered their flock |
| 2:18 |
When they camereturned to their father Reu′elReuel he said How is it that you have come back so soon today |
| 2:19 |
They said An Egyptian deliveredhelped us outagainst of the hand of the shepherds; andhe even drew water for us and watered the flock |
| 2:20 |
He said to his daughters AndWhere where is he Why havedid you leftleave the man CallInvite him thatto hebreak may eat bread |
| 2:21 |
And Moses wasagreed content to dwellstay with the man and he gave Moses his daugherdaughter Zippo′rahZipporah in marriage |
| 2:22 |
She bore a son and he callednamed hishim name Gershom; for he said I have been aan sojourneralien residing in a foreign land |
| 2:23 |
InAfter thea courselong oftime those many days the king of Egypt died AndThe theIsraelites people of Israel groaned under their bondageslavery and cried out forOut helpof andthe slavery their cry underfor bondagehelp camerose up to God |
| 2:24 |
And God heard their groaning and God remembered his covenant with Abraham with Isaac and with Jacob |
| 2:25 |
And God sawlooked upon the peopleIsraelites of Israel and God knewtook theirnotice conditionof them |
| 3:1 |
Now Moses was keeping the flock of his father in law Jethro the priest of Mid′ianMidian; and he led his flock tobeyond the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb the mountain of God |
| 3:2 |
AndThere the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush; and he looked and lo the bush was burningblazing yet it was not consumed |
| 3:3 |
AndThen Moses said I willmust turn aside and seelook at this great sight and see why the bush is not burntburned up |
| 3:4 |
When the Lord saw that he had turned aside to see God called to him out of the bush Moses Moses And he said Here I am I |
| 3:5 |
Then he said DoCome notno comecloser near;Remove putthe offsandals your shoes from your feet for the place on which you are standing is holy ground |
| 3:6 |
AndHe he said further I am the God of your father the God of Abraham the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob And Moses hid his face for he was afraid to look at God |
| 3:7 |
Then the Lord said I have seenobserved the afflictionmisery of my people who are in Egypt; andI have heard their cry becauseon account of their taskmasters; Indeed I know their sufferings |
| 3:8 |
and I have come down to deliver them outfrom of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land a land flowing with milk and honey to the placecountry of the Canaanites the Hittites the Amorites the Per′izzitesPerizzites the Hivites and the Jeb′usitesJebusites |
| 3:9 |
AndThe now behold the cry of the peopleIsraelites ofhas Israelnow has come to me; and I have also seen thehow oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them |
| 3:10 |
ComeSo come I will send you to Pharaoh thatto you may bring forth my people the sonsIsraelites of Israel out of Egypt |
| 3:11 |
But Moses said to God Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the sonsIsraelites of Israel out of Egypt |
| 3:12 |
He said But I will be with you; and this shall be the sign for you that it is I havewho sent you: when you have brought forth the people out of Egypt you shall serveworship God uponon this mountain |
| 3:13 |
ThenBut Moses said to God If I come to the peopleIsraelites of Israel and say to them The God of your fathersancestors has sent me to you and they ask me What is his name what shall I say to them |
| 3:14 |
God said to Moses I amAM whoWHO I amAM AndHe he said Sayfurther thisThus you shall say to the peopleIsraelites of Israel I amAM has sent me to you |
| 3:15 |
God also said to Moses SayThus thisyou shall say to the peopleIsraelites of Israel The Lord the God of your fathersancestors the God of Abraham the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob has sent me to you: thisThis is my name forforever ever and thusthis Imy amtitle tofor be remembered throughout all generations |
| 3:16 |
Go and gatherassemble the elders of Israel together and say to them The Lord the God of your fathersancestors the God of Abraham of Isaac and of Jacob has appeared to me saying: I have observedgiven heed to you and to what has been done to you in Egypt; |
| 3:17 |
and I promisedeclare that I will bring you up out of the afflictionmisery of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites the Hittites the Amorites the Per′izzitesPerizzites the Hivites and the Jeb′usitesJebusites a land flowing with milk and honey |
| 3:18 |
AndThey they will hearkenlisten to your voice; and you and the elders of Israel shall go to the king of Egypt and say to him The Lord the God of the Hebrews has met with us; and now we pray you let us now go a three days journey into the wilderness so that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God |
| 3:19 |
I know however that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless compelled by a mighty hand |
| 3:20 |
So I will stretch out my hand and smitestrike Egypt with all themy wonders whichthat I will doperform in it; after that he will let you go |
| 3:21 |
And I will givebring this people favorinto insuch thefavor sightwith of the Egyptians; andthat when you go you shallwill not go empty handed; |
| 3:22 |
but each woman shall ask of her neighbor and ofany herwoman wholiving sojourns in herthe neighbors house for jewelry of silver and of gold and clothing and you shall put them on your sons and on your daughters; thusand so you shall despoilplunder the Egyptians |
| 4:1 |
Then Moses answered But beholdsuppose they willdo not believe me or listen to myme voicebut for they will say The Lord did not appear to you |
| 4:2 |
The Lord said to him What is that in your hand He said A rodstaff |
| 4:3 |
And he said CastThrow it on the ground So he castthrew itthe staff on the ground and it became a serpentsnake; and Moses fleddrew back from it |
| 4:4 |
ButThen the Lord said to Moses PutReach out your hand and takeseize it by the tail—so he putreached out his hand and caughtgrasped it and it became a rodstaff in his hand— |
| 4:5 |
so that they may believe that the Lord the God of their fathersancestors the God of Abraham the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob has appeared to you |
| 4:6 |
Again the Lord said to him Put your hand intoinside your bosomcloak AndHe he put his hand into his bosomcloak; and when he took it out behold his hand was leprous as white as snow |
| 4:7 |
Then God said Put your hand back into your bosomcloak—so So he put his hand back into his bosom;cloak and when he took it out behold it was restored like the rest of his fleshbody— |
| 4:8 |
If they will not believe you God said or heed the first sign they may believe the lattersecond sign |
| 4:9 |
If they will not believe even these two signs or heed youryou voice you shall take some water from the Nile and pour it uponon the dry ground; and the water whichthat you shall take from the Nile will become blood uponon the dry ground |
| 4:10 |
But Moses said to the Lord OhO my Lord I amhave notnever been eloquent eitherneither heretoforein orthe sincepast thounor hasteven now that you have spoken to thyyour servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue |
| 4:11 |
Then the Lord said to him Who hasgives madespeech mansto mouthmortals Who makes himthem dumbmute or deaf or seeing or blind Is it not I the Lord |
| 4:12 |
Now therefore go and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shallare to speak |
| 4:13 |
But he said OhO my Lord please send Isomeone prayelse some other person |
| 4:14 |
Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses and he said IsWhat thereof not Aaron your brother Aaron the Levite I know that he can speak wellfluently; andeven beholdnow he is coming out to meet you and when he sees you hehis heart will be glad in his heart |
| 4:15 |
AndYou you shall speak to him and put the words in his mouth; and I will be with your mouth and with his mouth and will teach you what you shall do |
| 4:16 |
He indeed shall speak for you to the people; and he shall beserve as a mouth for you and you shall beserve to him as God for him |
| 4:17 |
AndTake you shall take in your hand this rodstaff with which you shall doperform the signs |
| 4:18 |
Moses went back to Jethro his father in law Jethro and said to him LetPlease let me go back I pray to my kinsmenkindred in Egypt and see whether they are still aliveliving And Jethro said to Moses Go in peace |
| 4:19 |
AndThe the Lord said to Moses in Mid′ianMidian Go back to Egypt; for all thethose men who were seeking your life are dead |
| 4:20 |
So Moses took his wife and his sons andput set them on ana assdonkey and went back to the land of Egypt; and in his hand Moses tookcarried the rodstaff of God in his hand |
| 4:21 |
And the Lord said to Moses When you go back to Egypt see that you doperform before Pharaoh all the miracleswonders whichthat I have put in your power; but I will harden his heart so that he will not let the people go |
| 4:22 |
AndThen you shall say to Pharaoh Thus says the Lord: Israel is my firstfirstborn born son |
| 4:23 |
and I saysaid to you Let my son go that he may serveworship me; ifBut you refuserefused to let him go; beholdnow I will slaykill your firstfirstborn bornson son |
| 4:24 |
AtOn the way at a lodging place onwhere they spent the waynight the Lord met him and soughttried to kill him |
| 4:25 |
ThenBut Zippo′rahZipporah took a flint and cut off her sons foreskin and touched Moses feet with it and said SurelyTruly you are a bridegroom of blood to me |
| 4:26 |
So he let him alone ThenIt it was thatthen she said YouA are a bridegroom of blood becauseby of the circumcision |
| 4:27 |
The Lord said to Aaron Go into the wilderness to meet Moses So he went; and he met him at the mountain of God and kissed him |
| 4:28 |
And Moses told Aaron all the words of the Lord with which he had sent him and all the signs with which he had charged him to do |
| 4:29 |
Then Moses and Aaron went and gatheredassembled together all the elders of the peopleIsraelites of Israel |
| 4:30 |
And Aaron spoke all the words whichthat the Lord had spoken to Moses and didperformed the signs in the sight of the people |
| 4:31 |
AndThe the people believed; and when they heard that the Lord had visitedgiven theheed peopleto ofthe IsraelIsraelites and that he had seen their afflictionmisery they bowed theirdown heads and worshiped |
| 5:1 |
Afterward Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said Thus says the Lord the God of Israel Let my people go so that they may holdcelebrate a feastfestival to me in the wilderness |
| 5:2 |
But Pharaoh said Who is the Lord that I should heed hishim voice and let Israel go I do not know the Lord and moreover I will not let Israel go |
| 5:3 |
Then they said The God of the Hebrews has metrevealed withhimself to us; let us go we pray a three days journey into the wilderness andto sacrifice to the Lord our God lestor he will fall upon us with pestilence or with the sword |
| 5:4 |
But the king of Egypt said to them Moses and Aaron why doare you taketaking the people away from their work Get to your burdenslabors |
| 5:5 |
And Pharaoh saidcontinued BeholdNow they are more numerous than the people of the land areand nowyet many and you makewant them restto fromstop theirworking burdens |
| 5:6 |
TheThat same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people andas well as their foremensupervisors |
| 5:7 |
You shall no longer give the people straw to make bricks as heretoforebefore; let them go and gather straw for themselves |
| 5:8 |
But theyou numbershall require of bricksthem whichthe theysame madequantity heretoforeof youbricks shallas laythey uponhave themmade youpreviously; shalldo bynot nodiminish means lessen it; for they are idlelazy; thereforethat is why they cry Let us go and offer sacrifice to our God |
| 5:9 |
Let heavier work be laid uponon thethem; menthen that they maywill labor at it and pay no regardattention to lyingdeceptive words |
| 5:10 |
So the taskmasters and the foremensupervisors of the people went out and said to the people Thus says Pharaoh I will not give you straw |
| 5:11 |
Go yourselvesand get your straw yourselves wherever you can find it; but your work will not be lessened in the least |
| 5:12 |
So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw |
| 5:13 |
The taskmasters were urgent saying Complete your work yourthe same daily taskassignment as when thereyou waswere given straw |
| 5:14 |
And the foremensupervisors of the peopleIsraelites of Israel whom Pharaohs taskmasters had set over them were beaten and were asked Why havedid you not donefinish allthe yourrequired taskquantity of making bricks yesterday and today as hithertoyou did before |
| 5:15 |
Then the foremenIsraelite ofsupervisors thecame peopleto ofPharaoh Israel came and cried to Pharaoh Why do you dealtreat thus with your servants like this |
| 5:16 |
No straw is given to your servants yet they say to us Make bricks AndLook beholdhow your servants are beaten; butYou theare faultunjust isto in your own people |
| 5:17 |
ButHe he said You are idlelazy youlazy; arethat idle;is thereforewhy you say Let us go and sacrifice to the Lord |
| 5:18 |
Go now and work; for no straw shall be given you yetbut you shall still deliver the same number of bricks |
| 5:19 |
The foremenIsraelite ofsupervisors the people of Israel saw that they were in eviltrouble plight when they saidwere told You shall bynot no means lessen your daily number of bricks |
| 5:20 |
TheyAs metthey left Pharaoh they came upon Moses and Aaron who were waiting forto meet them as they came forth from Pharaoh; |
| 5:21 |
andThey they said to them The Lord look upon you and judge becauseYou you have madebrought us offensiveinto inbad theodor sightwith of Pharaoh and his servantsofficials and have put a sword in their hand to kill us |
| 5:22 |
Then Moses turned again to the Lord and said O Lord why hasthave thouyou donemistreated evil to this people Why didstdid thouyou ever send me |
| 5:23 |
ForSince since I first came to Pharaoh to speak in thyyour name he has donemistreated evil to this people and thouyou hasthave notdone deliverednothing thy people at all to deliver your people |
| 6:1 |
ButThen the Lord said to Moses Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh;: forIndeed withby a strongmighty hand he will sendlet them outgo; yeaby with a strongmighty hand he will drive them out of his land |
| 6:2 |
And God saidalso spoke to Moses and said to him: I am the Lord |
| 6:3 |
I appeared to Abraham to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty but by my name theThe Lord I did not make myself known to them |
| 6:4 |
I also established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan the land in which they dweltresided as sojournersaliens |
| 6:5 |
Moreover I have also heard the groaning of the peopleIsraelites of Israel whom the Egyptians holdare inholding bondageas slaves and I have remembered my covenant |
| 6:6 |
Say therefore to the peopleIsraelites of Israel I am the Lord and I will bringfree you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians and I will deliver you from theirslavery bondageto andthem I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with greatmighty acts of judgment |
| 6:7 |
and I will take you foras my people and I will be your God; andYou you shall know that I am the Lord your God who has broughtfreed you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians |
| 6:8 |
And I will bring you into the land whichthat I swore to give to Abraham to Isaac and to Jacob; I will give it to you for a possession I am the Lord |
| 6:9 |
Moses spoketold thusthis to the people of IsraelIsraelites; but they didwould not listen to Moses because of their broken spirit and their cruel bondageslavery |
| 6:10 |
AndThen the Lord saidspoke to Moses |
| 6:11 |
Go inand tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the peopleIsraelites of Israel go out of his land |
| 6:12 |
But Moses saidspoke to the Lord BeholdThe theIsraelites people of Israel have not listened to me; how then shall Pharaoh listen to me whopoor amspeaker athat manI ofam uncircumcised lips |
| 6:13 |
ButThus the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron and gave them aorders chargeregarding to the peopleIsraelites of Israel and to Pharaoh king of Egypt charging them to bringfree the peopleIsraelites offrom Israel out of the land of Egypt |
| 6:14 |

TheseIt arewas thethis same Aaron and Moses to whom the Lord said: Bring out the peopleIsraelites out of Israel from the land of Egypt company by theircompany hosts |
| 6:27 |
It was they who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt aboutto bringingbring out the peopleIsraelites out of IsraelEgypt fromthe Egyptsame this Moses and this Aaron |
| 6:29 |
thehe Lord said to Moseshim I am the Lord; tell Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I sayam speaking to you |
| 6:30 |
But Moses said toin the LordLords Beholdpresence Since I am ofa uncircumcisedpoor lips;speaker howwhy thenwould shall Pharaoh listen to me |
| 7:1 |
AndThe the Lord said to Moses See I makehave made you aslike God to Pharaoh; and Aaron your brother Aaron shall be your prophet |
| 7:2 |
You shall speak all that I command you; and Aaron your brother Aaron shall tell Pharaoh to let the peopleIsraelites of Israel go out of his land |
| 7:3 |
But I will harden Pharaohs heart and though I will multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt |
| 7:4 |
When Pharaoh willdoes not listen to you; then I will lay my hand upon Egypt and bring forth my hosts my people the sonsIsraelites ofcompany Israelby company out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment |
| 7:5 |
AndThe the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord when I stretch forthout my hand uponagainst Egypt and bring out the peopleIsraelites ofout Israel from among them |
| 7:6 |
And Moses and Aaron did so; they did just as the Lord commanded them |
| 7:7 |
Now Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty three years old when they spoke to Pharaoh |
| 7:8 |
AndThe the Lord said to Moses and Aaron |
| 7:9 |
When Pharaoh says to you ProvePerform yourselves by working a miraclewonder then you shall say to Aaron Take your rodstaff and castthrow it down before Pharaoh thatand it maywill become a serpentsnake |
| 7:10 |
So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did as the Lord had commanded; Aaron castthrew down his rodstaff before Pharaoh and his servantsofficials and it became a serpentsnake |
| 7:12 |
ForEach everyone manthrew cast down his rodstaff and they became serpentssnakes; Butbut Aarons rodstaff swallowed up theirtheirs rods |
| 7:13 |
Still Pharaohs heart was hardened and he would not listen to them; as the Lord had said |
| 7:14 |
Then the Lord said to Moses Pharaohs heart is hardened; he refuses to let the people go |
| 7:15 |
Go to Pharaoh in the morning as he is going out to the water; waitstand forby himat by the riversriver brinkbank to meet him and take in your hand the rodstaff whichthat was turned into a serpentsnake |
| 7:16 |
AndSay you shall say to him The Lord the God of the Hebrews sent me to you sayingto say Let my people go so that they may serveworship me in the wilderness; andBut beholduntil now you have not yetlistened obeyed |
| 7:17 |
Thus says the Lord By this you shall know that I am the Lord: beholdSee Iwith will strike the waterstaff that is in themy Nilehand withI will strike the rodwater that is in mythe handNile and it shall be turned to blood |
| 7:18 |
andThe the fish in the Nileriver shall die and the Nileriver itself shall becomestink foul and the Egyptians willshall loathebe unable to drink water from the Nile |
| 7:19 |
AndThe the Lord said to Moses Say to Aaron Take your rodstaff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt —over theirits rivers theirits canals and theirits ponds and all theirits pools of water—so that they may become blood; and there shall be blood throughout all the whole land of Egypt botheven in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone |
| 7:20 |
Moses and Aaron did just as the Lord commanded; inIn the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servantsofficials he lifted up the rodstaff and struck the water that was in the Nileriver and all the water that was in the Nileriver was turned tointo blood |
| 7:21 |
Andand the fish in the Nileriver died; andThe theriver Nilestank became foul so that the Egyptians could not drink its water from the Nile; and there was blood throughout all the whole land of Egypt |
| 7:23 |
Pharaoh turned and went into his house and he did not laytake even this to heart |
| 7:24 |
And all the Egyptians dughad roundto aboutdig along the Nile for water to drink for they could not drink the water of the Nileriver |
| 8:1 |
Then the Lord said to Moses Go in to Pharaoh and say to him Thus says the Lord: Let my people go so that they may serveworship me |
| 8:2 |
ButIf if you refuse to let them go behold I will plague all your whole country with frogs; |
| 8:3 |
theThe Nileriver shall swarm with frogs; whichthey shall come up into your housepalace and into your bedchamber and on your bed and into the houses of your servantsofficials and of your people and into your ovens and your kneading bowls; |
| 8:4 |
theThe frogs shall come up on you and on your people and on all your servantsofficials |
| 8:5 |
And the Lord said to Moses Say to Aaron Stretch out your hand with your rodstaff over the rivers over the canals and over the pools and causemake frogs to come uponup on the land of Egypt |
| 8:7 |
But the magicians did the same by their secret arts and brought frogs uponup on the land of Egypt |
| 8:8 |
Then Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron and said EntreatPray to the Lord to take away the frogs from me and from my people; and I will let the people go to sacrifice to the Lord |
| 8:9 |
Moses said to Pharaoh BeKindly pleasedtell to command me when I am to entreatpray for you and for your servantsofficials and for your people that the frogs may be destroyedremoved from you and your houses and be left only in the Nile |
| 8:10 |
And he said Tomorrow Moses said BeAs it as you say So that you may know that there is no one like the Lord our God |
| 8:11 |
Thethe frogs shall departleave from you and your houses and your servantsofficials and your people; they shall be left only in the Nile |
| 8:12 |
SoThen Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh; and Moses cried out to the Lord concerning the frogs asthat he had agreedbrought withupon Pharaoh |
| 8:13 |
And the Lord did accordingas toMoses therequested: word of Moses; the frogs died outin of the houses andthe courtyards and out of the fields |
| 8:15 |
But when Pharaoh saw that there was a respite he hardened his heart and would not listen to them; just as the Lord had said |
| 8:16 |
Then the Lord said to Moses Say to Aaron Stretch out your rodstaff and strike the dust of the earth so that it may become gnats throughout all the whole land of Egypt |
| 8:17 |
And they did so; Aaron stretched out his hand with his rodstaff and struck the dust of the earth and theregnats came gnats on manhumans and beastanimals alike; all the dust of the earth becameturned into gnats throughout all the whole land of Egypt |
| 8:18 |
The magicians tried to produce gnats by their secret arts to bring forth gnats but they could not SoThere there were gnats on manboth humans and beastanimals |
| 8:19 |
And the magicians said to Pharaoh This is the finger of God But Pharaohs heart was hardened and he would not listen to them; just as the Lord had said |
| 8:20 |
Then the Lord said to Moses Rise up early in the morning and waitpresent foryourself before Pharaoh as he goes out to the water and say to him Thus says the Lord: Let my people go so that they may serveworship me |
| 8:21 |
ElseFor if you will not let my people go behold I will send swarms of flies on you and your servantsofficials and your people and into your houses; and the houses of the Egyptians shall be filled with swarms of flies; andso also the groundland onwhere which they standlive |
| 8:22 |
But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen where my people dwelllive so that no swarms of flies shall be there; that you may know that I am the Lord am in thethis midstland of the earth |
| 8:23 |
Thus I will putmake a divisiondistinction between my people and your people ByThis tomorrowsign shall thisappear signtomorrow be |
| 8:24 |
AndThe the Lord did so; thereand came great swarms of flies came into the house of Pharaoh and into his servantsofficials houses; and in all the land of Egypt the land was ruined bybecause reason of the flies |
| 8:25 |
Then Pharaoh calledsummoned Moses and Aaron and said Go sacrifice to your God within the land |
| 8:26 |
But Moses said It would not be right to do so; for the sacrifices that we shalloffer sacrifice to the Lord our God offeringsare abominableoffensive to the Egyptians If we sacrificeoffer offeringsin abominablethe tosight of the Egyptians beforesacrifices theirthat eyesare offensive to them will they not stone us |
| 8:27 |
We must go a three days journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the Lord our God as he willcommands command us |
| 8:28 |
So Pharaoh said I will let you go to sacrifice to the Lord your God in the wilderness; onlyprovided you shalldo not go very far away MakePray entreaty for me |
| 8:29 |
Then Moses said BeholdAs Isoon amas goingI outleave from you and I will pray to the Lord that the swarms of flies may depart tomorrow from Pharaoh from his servantsofficials and from his people tomorrow; only letdo not let Pharaoh again deal falsely again by not letting the people go to sacrifice to the Lord |
| 8:31 |
And the Lord did as Moses asked: andhe removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh from his servantsofficials and from his people; not one remained |
| 8:32 |
But Pharaoh hardened his heart this time also and didwould not let the people go |
| 9:1 |
Then the Lord said to Moses Go in to Pharaoh and say to him Thus says the Lord the God of the Hebrews: Let my people go so that they may serveworship me |
| 9:3 |
behold the hand of the Lord will fallstrike with a verydeadly severepestilence plague upon your cattlelivestock which are in the field: the horses the assesdonkeys the camels the herds and the flocks |
| 9:4 |
But the Lord will make a distinction between the cattlelivestock of Israel and the cattlelivestock of Egypt so that nothing shall die of all that belongs to the peopleIsraelites of Israel |
| 9:5 |
AndThe the Lord set a time saying Tomorrow the Lord will do this thing in the land |
| 9:6 |
And on the morrownext day the Lord did this thingso; all the cattlelivestock of the Egyptians died but of the cattlelivestock of the peopleIsraelites of Israel not one died |
| 9:7 |
And Pharaoh sentinquired and beholdfound that not one of the cattlelivestock of the Israelites was dead But the heart of Pharaoh was hardened and he didwould not let the people go |
| 9:8 |
AndThen the Lord said to Moses and Aaron Take handfuls of ashessoot from the kiln and let Moses throw themit towardin heaventhe air in the sight of Pharaoh |
| 9:9 |
AndIt it shall become fine dust all over all the land of Egypt and becomeshall boilscause breakingfestering outboils in sores on manhumans and beastanimals throughout all the whole land of Egypt |
| 9:10 |
So they took ashessoot from the kiln and stood before Pharaoh and Moses threw themit towardin heaventhe air and it becamecaused festering boils breaking out in sores on manhumans and beastanimals |
| 9:11 |
AndThe the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils for the boils wereafflicted upon the magicians andas uponwell as all the Egyptians |
| 9:12 |
But the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh and he didwould not listen to them; just as the Lord had spoken to Moses |
| 9:13 |
Then the Lord said to Moses Rise up early in the morning and standpresent yourself before Pharaoh and say to him Thus says the Lord the God of the Hebrews: Let my people go so that they may serveworship me |
| 9:14 |
For this time I will send all my plagues upon youryou heartyourself and upon your servantsofficials and upon your people so that you may know that there is noneno one like me in all the earth |
| 9:15 |
For by now I could have putstretched forthout my hand and struck you and your people with pestilence and you would have been cut off from the earth; |
| 9:16 |
butBut for this purposeis havewhy I have let you live: to show you my power soand thatto make my name mayresound bethrough declared throughout all the earth |
| 9:18 |
BeholdTomorrow tomorrowat about this time I will cause verythe heavyheaviest hail to fall suchthat ashas neverever hasfallen been in Egypt from the day it was founded until now |
| 9:19 |
NowSend therefore sendand gethave your cattlelivestock and alleverything that you have in the open field intobrought safeto shelter;a forsecure theplace; hail shall come down upon every manhuman andor beastanimal that is in the open field and is not brought homeunder andshelter theywill shall die when the hail comes down upon them |
| 9:20 |
ThenThose heofficials of Pharaoh who feared the word of the Lord amonghurried thetheir servants of Pharaoh made his slaves and hislivestock cattleoff fleeto intoa thesecure houses;place |
| 9:21 |
butThose he who did not regard the word of the Lord left histheir slaves and hislivestock cattle in the open field |
| 9:22 |
AndThe the Lord said to Moses Stretch forthout your hand toward heaven so that therehail may befall hailon inthe allwhole the land of Egypt uponon manhumans and beastanimals and everyall plantthe plants of the field throughoutin the land of Egypt |
| 9:23 |
Then Moses stretched forthout his rodstaff toward heaven; and the Lord sent thunder and hail and fire rancame down toon the earth And the Lord rained hail uponon the land of Egypt; |
| 9:24 |
there was hail andwith fire flashing continually in the midst of theit hailsuch very heavy hail such as had never beenfallen in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation |
| 9:25 |
The hail struck down everything that was in the open field throughout all the land of Egypt both manhuman and beastanimal; and the hail also struck down everyall plantthe plants of the field and shattered every tree ofin the field |
| 9:26 |
Only in the land of Goshen where the peopleIsraelites of Israel were there was no hail |
| 9:27 |
Then Pharaoh sentsummoned and called Moses and Aaron and said to them This time I have sinned this time; the Lord is in the right and I and my people are in the wrong |
| 9:28 |
EntreatPray to the Lord; forEnough there has been enough of thisGods thunder and hail; I will let you go; and you shallneed stay no longer |
| 9:29 |
Moses said to him As soon as I have gone out of the city I will stretch out my hands to the Lord; the thunder will cease and there will be no more hail so that you may know that the earth is the Lords |
| 9:30 |
But as for you and your servantsofficials I know that you do not yet fear the Lord God |
| 9:31 |
TheNow the flax and the barley were ruined for the barley was in the ear and the flax was in bud |
| 9:33 |
So Moses left Pharaoh went out of the city from Pharaoh and stretched out his hands to the Lord; andthen the thunder and the hail ceased and the rain no longer poured upondown on the earth |
| 9:34 |
But when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunder had ceased he sinned yetonce againmore and hardened his heart he and his servantsofficials |
| 9:35 |
So the heart of Pharaoh was hardened and he didwould not let the peopleIsraelites ofgo Israeljust go; as the Lord had spoken through Moses |
| 10:1 |
Then the Lord said to Moses Go in to Pharaoh; for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servantsofficials in order that I may show these signs of mine among them |
| 10:2 |
and that you may tell in the hearing of your sonchildren and ofgrandchildren your sons son how I have made sportfools of the Egyptians and what signs I have done among them;—so that you may know that I am the Lord |
| 10:3 |
So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh and said to him Thus says the Lord the God of the Hebrews How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me Let my people go so that they may serveworship me |
| 10:4 |
For if you refuse to let my people go behold tomorrow I will bring locusts into your country |
| 10:5 |
andThey they shall cover the facesurface of the land so that no one canwill be able to see the land; andThey they shall eatdevour whatthe islast remnant left to you after the hail and they shall eatdevour every tree of yours whichthat grows in the field |
| 10:6 |
andThey they shall fill your houses and the houses of all your servantsofficials and of all the Egyptians;—something asthat neither your fathersparents nor your grandfathersgrandparents have seen from the day they came on earth to this day Then he turned and went out from Pharaoh |
| 10:7 |
And Pharaohs servantsofficials said to him How long shall this manfellow be a snare to us Let the menpeople go so that they may serveworship the Lord their God; do you not yet understand that Egypt is ruined |
| 10:8 |
So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh; and he said to them Go serveworship the Lord your God; butBut whowhich ones are to go |
| 10:9 |
And Moses said We will go with our young and our old; we will go with our sons and daughters and with our flocks and herds forbecause we musthave holdthe aLords feastfestival to thecelebrate Lord |
| 10:10 |
AndHe he said to them The Lord indeed will be with you if ever I let you and your little ones go Lookwith you Plainly you have some evil purpose in mind |
| 10:11 |
No Gonever theYour men amongmay yougo and serveworship the Lord for that is what you desireare asking And they were driven out from Pharaohs presence |
| 10:12 |
Then the Lord said to Moses Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt forso that the locusts that they may come upon theit land of Egypt and eat every plant in the land all that the hail has left |
| 10:13 |
So Moses stretched forthout his rodstaff over the land of Egypt and the Lord brought an east wind upon the land all that day and all that night; and when itmorning wascame morning the east wind had brought the locusts |
| 10:14 |
AndThe the locusts came upupon over all the land of Egypt and settled on the whole country of Egypt such a dense swarm of locusts as had never been before nor ever shall be again |
| 10:15 |
ForThey they covered the facesurface of the whole land so that the land was darkenedblack; and they ate all the plants in the land and all the fruit of the trees whichthat the hail had left; notnothing a green thingwas remainedleft neitherno tree norno plant ofin the field throughin all the land of Egypt |
| 10:16 |
Then Pharaoh calledhurriedly summoned Moses and Aaron in haste and said I have sinned against the Lord your God and against you |
| 10:17 |
NowDo therefore forgive my sin Ijust pray you only this once and entreatpray to the Lord your God onlythat toat the least he remove this deathdeadly thing from me |
| 10:18 |
So he went out from Pharaoh and entreatedprayed to the Lord |
| 10:19 |
AndThe Lord changed the Lordwind turnedinto a very strong west wind which lifted the locusts and drove them into the Red Sea; not a single locust was left in all the country of Egypt |
| 10:20 |
But the Lord hardened Pharaohs heart and he didwould not let the childrenIsraelites of Israel go |
| 10:21 |
Then the Lord said to Moses Stretch out your hand toward heaven so that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt a darkness tothat can be felt |
| 10:22 |
So Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven and there was thickdense darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days; |
| 10:23 |
theyPeople didcould not see one another norand didfor anythree risedays fromthey hiscould placenot formove threefrom dayswhere they were; but all the peopleIsraelites of Israel had light where they dweltlived |
| 10:24 |
Then Pharaoh calledsummoned Moses and said Go serveworship the Lord; Only your childrenflocks alsoand mayyour goherds withshall you;remain onlybehind letEven your flockschildren andmay yourgo herdswith remainyou behind |
| 10:25 |
But Moses said You must also let us have sacrifices and burnt offerings thatto we may sacrifice to the Lord our God |
| 10:26 |
Our cattlelivestock also must go with us; not a hoof shall be left behind for we must takechoose some of them tofor servethe worship of the Lord our God and we dowill not know with what weto mustuse serveto worship the Lord until we arrive there |
| 10:27 |
But the Lord hardened Pharaohs heart and he wouldwas notunwilling to let them go |
| 10:28 |
Then Pharaoh said to him Get away from me; takeTake heedcare tothat yourself;you neverdo not see my face again; for inon the day you see my face you shall die |
| 10:29 |
Moses said AsJust as you say I will notnever see your face again |
| 11:1 |
The Lord said to Moses YetI will bring one plague more Iplague will bring upon Pharaoh and upon Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hencefrom here; indeed when he lets you go he will drive you away completely |
| 11:2 |
SpeakTell now in the hearing of the people that they ask every man ofis to ask his neighbor and every woman ofis to ask her neighbor jewelryfor objects of silver and of gold |
| 11:3 |
AndThe the Lord gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians Moreover theMoses manhimself Moses was verya man of great importance in the land of Egypt in the sight of Pharaohs servantsofficials and in the sight of the people |
| 11:4 |
And Moses said Thus says the Lord: About midnight I will go forthout inthrough the midst of Egypt; |
| 11:5 |
andEvery allfirstborn the first born in the land of Egypt shall die from the firstfirstborn born of Pharaoh who sits uponon his throne even to the firstfirstborn born of the maidservantfemale slave who is behind the mill;handmill and all the firstfirstborn born of the cattlelivestock |
| 11:6 |
AndThen there shallwill be a greatloud cry throughout all the whole land of Egypt such as there has never been noror will ever shall be again |
| 11:7 |
But againstnot anya ofdog theshall peoplegrowl at any of Israelthe eitherIsraelites—not manat orpeople beast not aat doganimals—so shall growl; that you may know that the Lord makes a distinction between theEgypt Egyptians and Israel |
| 11:8 |
AndThen all these yourofficials servantsof yours shall come down to me and bow downlow to me saying GetLeave us you out and all the people who follow you AndAfter after that I will goleave out And he went out from Pharaoh in hot anger he left Pharaoh |
| 11:9 |
ThenThe the Lord said to Moses Pharaoh will not listen to you; in order that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt |
| 11:10 |
Moses and Aaron didperformed all these wonders before Pharaoh; andbut the Lord hardened Pharaohs heart and he did not let the people of Israel go out of his land |
| 12:1 |
The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt: |
| 12:2 |
This month shall bemark for you the beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year for you |
| 12:3 |
Tell all the whole congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month they shallare to take every man a lamb accordingfor toeach theirfamily fathers houses a lamb for aeach household; |
| 12:4 |
andIf ifa the household is too small for a whole lamb thenit ashall manjoin andits hisclosest neighbor nextin toobtaining hisone; housethe lamb shall takebe accordingdivided in proportion to the number of persons;people accordingwho to what each can eat youof shallit make your count for the lamb |
| 12:5 |
Your lamb shall be without blemish a male a year old male; you shallmay take it from the sheep or from the goats; |
| 12:6 |
andYou you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month; whenthen the whole assemblyassembled of the congregation of Israel shall killslaughter theirit lambsat intwilight the evening |
| 12:7 |
ThenThey they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat themit |
| 12:8 |
They shall eat the fleshlamb that same night; they shall eat it roasted; over the fire with unleavened bread and bitter herbs they shall eat it |
| 12:9 |
Do not eat any of it raw or boiled within water but roasted itsover headthe fire with its head legs and its inner partsorgans |
| 12:10 |
AndYou you shall let none of it remain until the morning; anything that remains until the morning you shall burn |
| 12:11 |
InThis thisis mannerhow you shall eat it: your loins girded your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it inhurriedly haste It is the Lords passover of the Lord |
| 12:12 |
For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night and I will smitestrike alldown theevery firstfirstborn born in the land of Egypt both manhuman beings and beastanimals; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the Lord |
| 12:13 |
The blood shall be a sign for you uponon the houses where you are;live: and when I see the blood I will pass over you and no plague shall fall upon you to destroy you when I smitestrike the land of Egypt |
| 12:14 |
This day shall be fora youday aof memorialremembrance dayfor and you You shall keepcelebrate it as a feastfestival to the Lord; throughout your generations you shall observe it as ana perpetual ordinance for ever |
| 12:15 |
Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread; on the first day you shall putremove away leaven outfrom of your houses for ifwhoever any one eats whatleavened isbread leavened from the first day until the seventh day that person shall be cut off from Israel |
| 12:16 |
On the first day you shall hold a holysolemn assembly and on the seventh day a holysolemn assembly; no work shall be done on those days; butonly what everyeveryone one must eat that onlyalone may be prepared by you |
| 12:17 |
AndYou you shall observe the feastfestival of unleavened bread for on this very day I brought your hostscompanies out of the land of Egypt: therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations as ana perpetual ordinance for ever |
| 12:18 |
In the first month onfrom the fourteenthevening day of the monthfourteenth atday eveninguntil youthe shallevening eatof unleavened bread and so until the twenty first day ofyou theshall montheat atunleavened eveningbread |
| 12:19 |
For seven days no leaven shall be found in your houses; for ifwhoever any one eats what is leavened that person shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel whether hean isalien a sojourner or a native of the land |
| 12:20 |
You shall eat nothing leavened; in all your dwellingssettlements you shall eat unleavened bread |
| 12:21 |
Then Moses called all the elders of Israel and said to them SelectGo select lambs for yourselves according to your families and killslaughter the passover lamb |
| 12:22 |
Take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood whichthat is in the basin and touch the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood which is in the basin; andNone none of you shall go outoutside of the door of hisyour house until the morning |
| 12:23 |
For the Lord will pass through to slaystrike down the Egyptians; and when he sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts the Lord will pass over thethat door and will not allow the destroyer to enter your houses to slaystrike you down |
| 12:24 |
You shall observe this rite as ana perpetual ordinance for you and for your sonschildren for ever |
| 12:25 |
AndWhen when you come to the land whichthat the Lord will give you as he has promised you shall keep this serviceobservance |
| 12:26 |
And when your children sayask to you What do you mean by this serviceobservance |
| 12:27 |
you shall say It is the passover sacrifice ofto the LordsLord passover for he passed over the houses of the peopleIsraelites of Israel in Egypt when he slewstruck down the Egyptians but spared our houses And the people bowed theirdown heads and worshiped |
| 12:28 |
ThenThe theIsraelites people of Israel went and did so;just as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron so they did |
| 12:29 |
At midnight the Lord smotestruck down all the firstfirstborn born in the land of Egypt from the firstfirstborn born of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstfirstborn born of the captiveprisoner who was in the dungeon and all the firstfirstborn born of the cattlelivestock |
| 12:30 |
And Pharaoh rosearose up in the night he and all his servantsofficials and all the Egyptians; and there was a greatloud cry in Egypt for there was not a house wherewithout onesomeone was not dead |
| 12:31 |
AndThen he summoned Moses and Aaron byin the night and said Rise up go forthaway from among my people both you and the peopleIsraelites ofGo Israel;worship and go serve the Lord as you have said |
| 12:32 |
Take your flocks and your herds as you have said and be gone; andAnd blessbring a blessing on me alsotoo |
| 12:33 |
AndThe the Egyptians wereurged urgent with the people to sendhasten themtheir outdeparture offrom the land in haste; for they said We areshall all be dead men |
| 12:34 |
So the people took their dough before it was leavened with their kneading bowls beingwrapped bound up in their mantlescloaks on their shoulders |
| 12:35 |
The peopleIsraelites of Israel had also done as Moses told them; for they had asked of the Egyptians for jewelry of silver and of gold and for clothing; |
| 12:36 |
and the Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians so that they let them have what they asked ThusAnd so they despoiledplundered the Egyptians |
| 12:37 |
AndThe theIsraelites people of Israel journeyed from Ram′esesRameses to Succoth about six hundred thousand men on foot besides women and children |
| 12:38 |
A mixed multitudecrowd also went up with them and verylivestock manyin cattlegreat numbers both flocks and herds |
| 12:39 |
AndThey they baked unleavened cakes of the dough whichthat they had brought out of Egypt; for it was not leavened because they were thrustdriven out of Egypt and could not tarrywait neithernor had they prepared any provisions for themselves any provisions |
| 12:40 |
The time that the peopleIsraelites ofhad Israellived dwelt in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years |
| 12:41 |
AndAt at the end of four hundred and thirty years on that very day all the hostscompanies of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt |
| 12:42 |
ItThat was for the Lord a night of watchingvigil by the Lord to bring them out of the land of Egypt; soThat this same night is a nightvigil ofto watchingbe kept tofor the Lord by all the peopleIsraelites of Israel throughout their generations |
| 12:43 |
AndThe the Lord said to Moses and Aaron: This is the ordinance offor the passover: no foreigner shall eat of it; |
| 12:44 |
but everyany slave thatwho ishas boughtbeen forpurchased money may eat of it after youhe havehas been circumcised; him |
| 12:45 |
Nono sojournerbound or hired servant may eat of it |
| 12:46 |
InIt oneshall housebe shalleaten itin beone eatenhouse; you shall not carrytake forth any of the fleshanimal outside the house; and you shall not break aany bone of itits bones |
| 12:47 |
AllThe thewhole congregation of Israel shall keepcelebrate it |
| 12:48 |
AndIf whenan aalien strangerwho shallresides sojourn with you andwants wouldto keepcelebrate the passover to the Lord let all his males shall be circumcised; then he may comedraw near andto keepcelebrate it; he shall be regarded as a native of the land But no uncircumcised person shall eat of it; |
| 12:49 |
Therethere shall be one law for the native and for the strangeralien who sojournsresides among you |
| 12:50 |
ThusAll did all the peopleIsraelites ofdid Israel;just as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron so they did |
| 12:51 |
AndThat on that very day the Lord brought the peopleIsraelites of Israel out of the land of Egypt company by their hostscompany |
| 13:1 |
The Lord said to Moses: |
| 13:2 |
Consecrate to me all the first bornfirstborn; whatever is the first to open the womb among the peopleIsraelites of Israelhuman bothbeings of man and ofanimals beast is mine |
| 13:3 |
And Moses said to the people Remember this day inon which you came out fromof Egypt out of the house of bondageslavery forbecause by strength of hand the Lord brought you out from thisthere placeby strength of hand; no leavened bread shall be eaten |
| 13:4 |
ThisToday day you are to go forth in the month of Abib you are going out |
| 13:5 |
AndWhen when the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites the Hittites the Amorites the Hivites and the Jeb′usitesJebusites which he swore to your fathersancestors to give you a land flowing with milk and honey you shall keep this serviceobservance in this month |
| 13:6 |
Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread and on the seventh day there shall be a feastfestival to the Lord |
| 13:7 |
Unleavened bread shall be eaten for seven days; no leavened bread shall be seen within youyour possession and no leaven shall be seen withamong you in all your territory |
| 13:8 |
AndYou you shall tell your sonchild on that day It is because of what the Lord did for me when I came out of Egypt |
| 13:9 |
AndIt it shall beserve tofor you as a sign on your hand and as a memorialreminder betweenon your eyesforehead so that the lawteaching of the Lord may be inon your mouthlips; for with a strong hand the Lord has brought you out of Egypt |
| 13:10 |
You shall therefore keep this ordinance at its appointedproper time from year to year |
| 13:11 |
AndWhen when the Lord bringshas brought you into the land of the Canaanites as he swore to you and your fathersancestors and shallhas givegiven it to you |
| 13:12 |
you shall set apart to the Lord all that first opens the womb All the firstlingsfirstborn of your cattlelivestock that are males shall be the Lords |
| 13:13 |
EveryBut firstlingevery offirstborn andonkey ass you shall redeem with a lambsheep; or if you willdo not redeem it you shallmust break its neck Every firstfirstborn bornmale of man among your sonschildren you shall redeem |
| 13:14 |
AndWhen when in timethe tofuture come your sonchild asks you What does this mean you shall sayanswer to him By strength of hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt from the house of bondageslavery |
| 13:15 |
ForWhen when Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go the Lord slewkilled all the firstfirstborn born in the land of Egypt bothfrom thehuman firstfirstborn bornto of man and the firstfirstborn born of cattleanimals Therefore I sacrifice to the Lord allevery themale males that first openopens the womb; but allevery thefirstborn first born of my sons I redeem |
| 13:16 |
It shall beserve as a marksign on your hand orand frontletsas betweenan emblem on your eyes;forehead forthat by astrength strongof hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt |
| 13:17 |
When Pharaoh let the people go God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines although that was nearnearer; for God saidthought LestIf the people repentface whenwar they seemay warchange their minds and return to Egypt |
| 13:18 |
ButSo God led the people round by the roundabout way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea AndThe theIsraelites people of Israel went up out of the land of Egypt equippedprepared for battle |
| 13:19 |
And Moses took with him the bones of Joseph withwho him;had forrequired Josepha hadsolemn solemnlyoath swornof the peopleIsraelites of Israel saying God will visitsurely take notice of you; and then you must carry my bones with you from here |
| 13:20 |
AndThey theyset movedout on from Succoth and encampedcamped at Etham on the edge of the wilderness |
| 13:21 |
AndThe the Lord went beforein themfront byof daythem in a pillar of cloud by day to lead them along the way and by night in a pillar of fire by night to give them light so that they might travel by day and by night; |
| 13:22 |
Neither the pillar of cloud by day andnor the pillar of fire by night didleft notits departplace fromin beforefront of the people |
| 14:1 |
Then the Lord said to Moses: |
| 14:2 |
Tell the peopleIsraelites of Israel to turn back and encampcamp in front of Pi hahahiroth hi′roth between Migdol and the sea in front of Ba′alBaal ze′phonzephon; you shall encampcamp overopposite against it by the sea |
| 14:3 |
For Pharaoh will say of the peopleIsraelites of Israel They are entangledwandering aimlessly in the land; the wilderness has shutclosed in on them in |
| 14:4 |
And I will harden Pharaohs heart and he will pursue them andso that I will getgain glory for myself over Pharaoh and all his hostarmy; and the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord And they did so |
| 14:5 |
When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled the mindminds of Pharaoh and his servantsofficials waswere changed toward the people and they said What ishave this we have done thatletting we have let Israel goleave fromour servingservice us |
| 14:6 |
So he madehad ready his chariot made ready and took his army with him; |
| 14:7 |
andhe took six hundred picked chariots and all the other chariots of Egypt with officers over all of them |
| 14:8 |
AndThe the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt and he pursued the peopleIsraelites ofwho Israelwere asgoing theyout wentboldly forth defiantly |
| 14:9 |
The Egyptians pursued them all Pharaohs horses and chariots and his horsemenchariot drivers and his army; andthey overtook them encampedcamped atby the sea by Pi hahahiroth hi′roth in front of Ba′alBaal ze′phonzephon |
| 14:10 |
WhenAs Pharaoh drew near the peopleIsraelites oflooked Israelback liftedand upthere theirwere eyes and behold the Egyptians wereadvancing marchingon after them; andIn they were in great fear And the peopleIsraelites of Israel cried out to the Lord; |
| 14:11 |
andThey they said to Moses IsWas it because there arewere no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness What have you done to us in bringing us out of Egypt |
| 14:12 |
Is this not thisthe whatvery thing we saidtold to you in Egypt Let us alone and let us serve the Egyptians For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness |
| 14:13 |
AndBut Moses said to the people FearDo not be afraid stand firm and see the salvationdeliverance ofthat the Lord which he will workaccomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you see today you shall never see again |
| 14:14 |
The Lord will fight for you and you have only to bekeep still |
| 14:15 |
TheThen the Lord said to Moses Why do you cry out to me Tell the peopleIsraelites of Israel to go forward |
| 14:16 |
LiftBut you lift up your rodstaff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it that the peopleIsraelites of Israel may go into the sea on dry ground through the sea |
| 14:17 |
AndThen I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they shallwill go in after them; and so I will getgain glory for myself over Pharaoh and all his hostarmy his chariots and his horsemenchariot drivers |
| 14:18 |
And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord when I have gottengained glory for myself over Pharaoh his chariots and his horsemenchariot drivers |
| 14:19 |
ThenThe the angel of God who wentwas going before the hostIsraelite ofarmy Israel moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from beforein front of them and stoodtook its place behind them |
| 14:20 |
comingIt came between the hostarmy of Egypt and the hostarmy of Israel And thereso was the cloud andwas there with the darkness; and it lit up the night; passedone withoutdid onenot comingcome near the other all night |
| 14:21 |
Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; andThe the Lord drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night and madeturned the sea into dry land; and the waters were divided |
| 14:22 |
AndThe theIsraelites people of Israel went into the midst of the sea on dry ground the waters beingforming a wall tofor them on their right hand and on their left |
| 14:23 |
The Egyptians pursued and went in after them into the midstsea ofafter thethem sea all of Pharaohs horses his chariots and hischariot horsemendrivers |
| 14:24 |
AndAt in the morning watch the Lord in the pillar of fire and of cloud looked down upon the hostEgyptian ofarmy the Egyptians and discomfitedthrew the hostEgyptian ofarmy theinto Egyptianspanic |
| 14:25 |
cloggingHe clogged their chariot wheels so that they droveturned heavily;with anddifficulty theThe Egyptians said Let us flee from beforethe Israel;Israelites for the Lord fightsis fighting for them against the EgyptiansEgypt |
| 14:26 |
Then the Lord said to Moses Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the water may come back upon the Egyptians upon their chariots and uponchariot theirdrivers horsemen |
| 14:27 |
So Moses stretched forthout his hand over the sea and at dawn the sea returned to its wontednormal flowdepth whenAs the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled intobefore it and the Lord routedtossed the Egyptians ininto the midst of the sea |
| 14:28 |
The waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemenchariot anddrivers all the hostentire army of Pharaoh that had followed them into the sea; not so much as one of them remained |
| 14:29 |
But the peopleIsraelites of Israel walked on dry ground through the sea the waters beingforming a wall tofor them on their right hand and on their left |
| 14:30 |
Thus the Lord saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead uponon the seashore |
| 14:31 |
And Israel saw the great work whichthat the Lord did against the Egyptians andSo the people feared the Lord; and they believed in the Lord and in his servant Moses |
| 15:1 |
Then Moses and the peopleIsraelites of Israel sang this song to the Lord: saying I will sing to the Lord for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea |
| 15:2 |
The Lord is my strength and my songmight and he has become my salvation; this is my God and I will praise him my fathers God and I will exalt him |
| 15:3 |
The Lord is a man of warwarrior; the Lord is his name |
| 15:4 |
Pharaohs chariots and his hostarmy he cast into the sea; and his picked officers arewere sunk in the Red Sea |
| 15:5 |
The floods covercovered them; they went down into the depths like a stone |
| 15:6 |

| 15:8 |
At the blast of thyyour nostrils the waters piled up the floods stood up in a heap; the deeps congealed in the heart of the sea |
| 15:10 |
ThouYou didstblew blow with thyyour wind the sea covered them; they sank aslike lead in the mighty waters |
| 15:11 |
Who is like theeyou O Lord among the gods Who is like theeyou majestic in holiness terribleawesome in glorioussplendor deeds doing wonders |
| 15:12 |
ThouYou didststretched stretch out thyyour right hand the earth swallowed them |
| 15:13 |

| 15:14 |
The peoples have heard they trembletrembled; pangs have seized on the inhabitants of Philistia |
| 15:15 |
NowThen are the chiefs of Edom were dismayed; trembling seized the leaders of Moab trembling seizes them; all the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away |
| 15:16 |
Terror and dread fallfell upon them; becauseby of the greatnessmight of thyyour arm they arebecame as still as a stone tilluntil thyyour people O Lord passpassed by tilluntil the people passwhom byyou whomacquired thoupassed hast purchasedby |
| 15:17 |
ThouYou wiltbrought bring them in and plantplanted them on thythe mountain of your own mountainpossession the place O Lord whichthat thouyou hast made foryour thy abode the sanctuary O Lord whichthat thyyour hands have established |
| 15:18 |
The Lord will reign forforever ever and ever |
| 15:19 |
ForWhen when the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his horsemenchariot drivers went into the sea the Lord brought back the waters of the sea upon them; but the peopleIsraelites ofwalked Israelthrough walkedthe sea on dry ground in the midst of the sea |
| 15:20 |
Then Miriam the prophetessprophet theMiriam Aarons sister of Aaron took a timbreltambourine in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrelstambourines and with dancing |
| 15:21 |
And Miriam sang to them: Sing to the Lord for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea |
| 15:22 |
Then Moses ledordered Israel onwardto set out from the Red Sea and they went into the wilderness of Shur; theyThey went three days in the wilderness and found no water |
| 15:23 |
When they came to Marah they could not drink the water of Marah because it was bitter; thereforeThat is why it was namedcalled Marah |
| 15:24 |
And the people murmuredcomplained against Moses saying What shall we drink |
| 15:25 |
AndHe he cried out to the Lord; and the Lord showed him a treepiece andof wood; he threw it into the water and the water became sweet There the Lord made for them a statute and an ordinance and there he provedput them to the test |
| 15:26 |
sayingHe said If you will diligentlylisten hearkencarefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do thatwhat which is right in his eyessight and give heed to his commandments and keep all his statutes I will putnot nonebring upon you any of the diseases uponthat you which I putbrought upon the Egyptians; for I am the Lord yourwho healerheals you |
| 15:27 |
Then they came to Elim where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees; and they encampedcamped there by the water |
| 16:1 |
TheyThe whole congregation of the Israelites set out from Elim; and all the congregation of the people of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin which is between Elim and Sinai on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had departed from the land of Egypt |
| 16:2 |
AndThe the whole congregation of the peopleIsraelites ofcomplained Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness |
| 16:3 |
andThe Israelites said to them WouldIf thatonly we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt when we sat by the fleshpots and ate breadour tofill theof fullbread; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger |
| 16:4 |
Then the Lord said to Moses Behold I willam going to rain bread from heaven for you; and each day the people shall go out and gather aenough daysfor portionthat every day In that way I maywill provetest them whether they will walkfollow in my lawinstruction or not |
| 16:5 |
On the sixth day when they prepare what they bring in it will be twice as much as they gather dailyon other days |
| 16:6 |
So Moses and Aaron said to all the peopleIsraelites ofIn Israelthe At evening you shall know that it was the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt |
| 16:7 |
and in the morning you shall see the glory of the Lord because he has heard your murmuringscomplaining against the Lord For what are we that you murmurcomplain against us |
| 16:8 |
And Moses said When the Lord gives you meat to eat in the evening flesh to eat and inyour thefill morningof bread toin the fullmorning because the Lord has heard yourthe murmuringscomplaining whichthat you murmurutter against him—what are we Your murmuringscomplaining areis not against us but against the Lord |
| 16:9 |
AndThen Moses said to Aaron Say to the whole congregation of the peopleIsraelites ofDraw Israel Come near beforeto the Lord for he has heard your murmuringscomplaining |
| 16:10 |
And as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the peopleIsraelites of Israel they looked toward the wilderness and behold the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud |
| 16:11 |
AndThe the Lord saidspoke to Moses and said |
| 16:12 |
I have heard the murmuringscomplaining of the people of IsraelIsraelites; say to them At twilight you shall eat fleshmeat and in the morning you shall behave filledyour withfill of bread; then you shall know that I am the Lord your God |
| 16:13 |
In the evening quails came up and covered the camp; and in the morning dewthere laywas rounda aboutlayer of dew around the camp |
| 16:14 |
AndWhen when the dewlayer hadof gonedew uplifted there was on the facesurface of the wilderness was a fine flakeflaky likesubstance thingas fine as hoarfrostfrost on the ground |
| 16:15 |
When the peopleIsraelites of Israel saw it they said to one another What is it For they did not know what it was And Moses said to them It is the bread whichthat the Lord has given you to eat |
| 16:16 |
This is what the Lord has commanded: Gather ofas itmuch every man of youit as mucheach asof he can eat; you shallneeds take an omer apieceto a person according to the number of the persons whomall eachproviding offor youthose has in histheir tentown tents |
| 16:17 |
AndThe theIsraelites people of Israel did so; theysome gatheredgathering some more some less |
| 16:18 |
But when they measured it with an omer hethose thatwho gathered much had nothing over and hethose thatwho gathered little had no lackshortage; eachthey gathered accordingas tomuch whatas heeach couldof eatthem needed |
| 16:19 |
And Moses said to them Let no manone leave any of it tillover theuntil morning |
| 16:20 |
But they did not listen to Moses; some left part of it tilluntil the morning and it bred worms and became foul; andAnd Moses was angry with them |
| 16:21 |
Morning by morning they gathered it each as much as heeach could eatneeded; but when the sun grew hot it melted |
| 16:22 |
On the sixth day they gathered twice as much breadfood two omers apiece; andWhen when all the leaders of the congregation came and told Moses |
| 16:23 |
he said to them This is what the Lord has commanded: Tomorrow is a day of solemn rest a holy sabbath to the Lord; bake what you willwant to bake and boil what you willwant to boil and all that is left over layput byaside to be kept tilluntil the morning |
| 16:24 |
So they laidput it byaside tilluntil the morning as Moses badecommanded them; and it did not become foul and there were no worms in it |
| 16:28 |
AndThe the Lord said to Moses How long dowill you refuse to keep my commandments and myinstructions laws |
| 16:29 |
See The Lord has given you the sabbath therefore on the sixth day he gives you breadfood for two days; remaineach every man of you instay hiswhere placeyou letare; nodo mannot goleave outyour of his place on the seventh day |
| 16:31 |
NowThe the house of Israel called itsit name manna; it was like coriander seed white and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey |
| 16:32 |
And Moses said This is what the Lord has commanded: Let an omer of it be kept throughout your generations in order that they may see the breadfood with which I fed you in the wilderness when I brought you out of the land of Egypt |
| 16:34 |
As the Lord commanded Moses so Aaron placed it before the testimonycovenant tofor besafekeeping kept |
| 16:35 |
AndThe theIsraelites people of Israel ate the manna forty years tilluntil they came to a habitable land; they ate the manna tilluntil they came to the border of the land of Canaan |
| 16:36 |
An omer is thea tenth part of an ephah |
| 17:1 |
AllFrom the congregationwilderness of Sin the peoplewhole congregation of Israel moved on from the wildernessIsraelites ofjourneyed Sin by stages accordingas to the commandmentLord ofcommanded theThey Lord and camped at Reph′idim;Rephidim but there was no water for the people to drink |
| 17:2 |
ThereforeThe the people foundquarreled fault with Moses and said Give us water to drink And Moses said to them Why do you findquarrel fault with me Why do you puttest the Lord to the proof |
| 17:3 |
But the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmuredcomplained against Moses and said Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to kill us and our children and ourlivestock cattle with thirst |
| 17:4 |
So Moses cried out to the Lord What shall I do with this people They are almost ready to stone me |
| 17:5 |
AndThe the Lord said to Moses PassGo on beforeahead of the people takingand withtake you some of the elders of Israel with you; and take in your hand the rodstaff with which you struck the Nile and go |
| 17:6 |
Behold I will standbe beforestanding there in front of you there on the rock at Horeb; andStrike you shall strike the rock and water shallwill come out of it so that the people may drink And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel |
| 17:7 |
AndHe he called the name of the place Massah and Mer′ibahMeribah because of the faultfindingIsraelites ofquarreled the children of Israel and becausetested they put the Lord to the proof by saying Is the Lord among us or not |
| 17:8 |
Then Amalek came Am′alek and fought with Israel at Reph′idimRephidim |
| 17:9 |
And Moses said to Joshua Choose some men for us men and go out fight with Am′alek;Amalek tomorrowTomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rodstaff of God in my hand |
| 17:10 |
So Joshua did as Moses told him and fought with Am′alek;Amalek andwhile Moses Aaron and Hur went up to the top of the hill |
| 17:11 |
Whenever Moses held up his hand Israel prevailed; and whenever he lowered his hand Am′alekAmalek prevailed |
| 17:12 |
But Moses hands grew weary; so they took a stone and put it under him and he sat uponon it and Aaron and Hur held up his hands one on one side and the other on the other side; so his hands were steady until the goingsun downset of the sun |
| 17:13 |
And Joshua moweddefeated downAmalek Am′alek and his people with the edge of the sword |
| 17:14 |
AndThen the Lord said to Moses Write this as a memorialreminder in a book and recite it in the earshearing of Joshua: that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Am′alekAmalek from under heaven |
| 17:15 |
And Moses built an altar and called the name of it The Lord is my banner |
| 17:16 |
sayingHe said A hand upon the banner of the Lord The Lord will have war with Am′alekAmalek from generation to generation |
| 18:1 |
Jethro the priest of Mid′ianMidian Moses father in law heard of all that God had done for Moses and for Israel his people Israel how the Lord had brought Israel out of Egypt |
| 18:2 |
NowAfter Jethro Moses fatherhad insent lawaway hadhis takenwife Zippo′rahZipporah Moseshis wifefather afterin helaw hadJethro senttook her awayback |
| 18:3 |
andalong with her two sons ofThe whom the name of the one was Gershom for he said I have been aan sojourneralien in a foreign land |
| 18:4 |
and the name of the other Elie′zerEliezer for he said The God of my father was my help and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh |
| 18:5 |
And Jethro Moses father in law came withinto his sons and his wife to Moses in the wilderness where heMoses was encamped at the mountain of God bringing Moses sons and wife to him |
| 18:6 |
AndHe whensent oneword toldto Moses LoI your father in law Jethro isam coming to you with your wife and her two sons with her |
| 18:7 |
Moses went out to meet his father in law; andhe didbowed obeisancedown and kissed him; andeach they asked eachafter otherthe ofothers their welfare and they went into the tent |
| 18:8 |
Then Moses told his father in law all that the Lord had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israels sake all the hardship that had comebeset upon them inon the way and how the Lord had delivered them |
| 18:9 |
And Jethro rejoiced for all the good whichthat the Lord had done to Israel in thatdelivering he had delivered them outfrom of the hand of the Egyptians |
| 18:10 |
And Jethro said Blessed be the Lord who has delivered you outfrom of the hand of the Egyptians and outfrom of the hand of Pharaoh |
| 18:11 |
Now I know that the Lord is greater than all gods because he delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians when they dealt arrogantly with them |
| 18:12 |
And Jethro Moses father in law offeredbrought a burnt offering and sacrifices to God; and Aaron came with all the elders of Israel to eat bread with Moses father in law beforein the presence of God |
| 18:13 |
OnThe thenext morrowday Moses sat toas judge for the people andwhile the people stood aboutaround Moseshim from morning tilluntil evening |
| 18:14 |
When Moses father in law saw all that he was doing for the people he said What is this that you are doing for the people Why do you sit alone andwhile all the people stand aboutaround you from morning tilluntil evening |
| 18:15 |
And Moses said to his father in law Because the people come to me to inquire of God; |
| 18:16 |
whenWhen they have a dispute they come to me and I decide between aone manperson and hisanother neighbor and I make known to them know the statutes and instructions of God and his decisions |
| 18:18 |
You andwill thesurely peoplewear withyourself out both you willand wearthese yourselvespeople outwith foryou For the thingtask is too heavy for you; you arecannot notdo able to perform it alone |
| 18:19 |
ListenNow nowlisten to myme voice; I will give you counsel and God be with you You shallshould represent the people before God and you should bring their cases tobefore God; |
| 18:20 |
and you shall teach them the statutes and theinstructions decisions and make known to them know the way inthey whichare theyto mustgo walk and whatthe things they mustare to do |
| 18:21 |
MoreoverYou chooseshould also look for able men fromamong all the people suchmen aswho fear God men who are trustworthy and who hate adishonest bribegain; andset place such men over thethem people as rulersofficers ofover thousands of hundreds of fifties and of tens |
| 18:22 |
AndLet let them judgesit as judges for the people at all times; everylet greatthem matterbring theyevery shallimportant bringcase to you but anydecide smallevery matterminor theycase shall decide themselves; soSo it will be easier for you and they will bear the burden with you |
| 18:23 |
If you do this and God so commands you then you will be able to endure and all thisthese people also will go to their placehome in peace |
| 18:24 |
So Moses gavelistened heed to the voice of his father in law and did all that he had said |
| 18:25 |
Moses chose able men outfrom of all Israel and madeappointed them as heads over the people rulersas ofofficers over thousands of hundreds of fifties and of tens |
| 18:26 |
And they judged the people at all times; hard cases they brought to Moses but any smallminor mattercase they decided themselves |
| 18:27 |
Then Moses let his father in law depart and he went hisoff way to his own country |
| 19:1 |
On the third new moon after the peopleIsraelites of Israel had gone forth out of the land of Egypt on that very day they came into the wilderness of Sinai |
| 19:2 |
AndThey whenhad theyjourneyed set out from Reph′idimRephidim andentered came into the wilderness of Sinai theyand encampedcamped in the wilderness; andIsrael camped there Israelin encampedfront beforeof the mountain |
| 19:3 |
AndThen Moses went up to God; and the Lord called to him outfrom of the mountain saying Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob and tell the people of IsraelIsraelites: |
| 19:5 |
Now therefore if you will obey my voice and keep my covenant you shall be my owntreasured possession amongout of all the peoples; forIndeed all the whole earth is mine |
| 19:6 |
andbut you shall be tofor me a priestly kingdom of priests and a holy nation These are the words whichthat you shall speak to the children of IsraelIsraelites |
| 19:7 |
So Moses came andsummoned called the elders of the people and set before them all these words whichthat the Lord had commanded him |
| 19:8 |
AndThe people all the people answered togetheras andone: saidEverything All that the Lord has spoken we will do And Moses reported the words of the people to the Lord |
| 19:9 |
AndThen the Lord said to Moses Lo I am cominggoing to come to you in a thickdense cloud in order that the people may hear when I speak with you and mayso alsotrust believe you for ever Thenafter When Moses had told the words of the people to the Lord |
| 19:10 |
And the Lord said to Moses: Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow andHave let them wash their garmentsclothes |
| 19:11 |
and beprepare readyfor by the third day; forbecause on the third day the Lord will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people |
| 19:12 |
AndYou you shall set boundslimits for the people roundall aboutaround saying TakeBe heedcareful thatnot youto do not go up into the mountain or to touch the borderedge of it; whoeverAny toucheswho touch the mountain shall be put to death; |
| 19:13 |
noNo hand shall touch himthem but hethey shall be stoned or shot with arrows; whether beastanimal or manhuman hebeing they shall not live When the trumpet sounds a long blast they shallmay comego up toon the mountain |
| 19:14 |
So Moses went down from the mountain to the people andHe consecrated the people; and they washed their garmentsclothes |
| 19:15 |
And he said to the people BePrepare readyfor by the third day; do not go near a woman |
| 19:16 |
On the morning of the third day there werewas thundersthunder and lightningslightning andas well as a thick cloud uponon the mountain and a veryblast loudof a trumpet blast so loud that all the people who were in the camp trembled |
| 19:17 |
Then Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God; andThey they took their stand at the foot of the mountain |
| 19:18 |
AndNow Mount Sinai was wrapped in smoke because the Lord had descended upon it in fire; and the smoke of it went up like the smoke of a kiln andwhile the whole mountain quakedshook greatlyviolently |
| 19:19 |
AndAs as the soundblast of the trumpet grew louder and louder Moses spokewould speak and God answeredwould answer him in thunder |
| 19:20 |
AndWhen the Lord camedescended down upon Mount Sinai to the top of the mountain; and the Lord calledsummoned Moses to the top of the mountain and Moses went up |
| 19:21 |
AndThen the Lord said to Moses Go down and warn the people lestnot theyto break through to the Lord to gazelook; andotherwise many of them will perish |
| 19:22 |
AndEven also let the priests who comeapproach near to the Lord must consecrate themselves lestor the Lord will break out uponagainst them |
| 19:23 |
And Moses said to the Lord The people cannotare not permitted to come up to Mount Sinai; for thouyou thyselfyourself didstwarned charge us saying Set boundslimits aboutaround the mountain and consecratekeep it holy |
| 19:24 |
AndThe the Lord said to him Go down and come up bringing Aaron with you; but do not let either the priests andor the people break through to come up to the Lord; lestotherwise he will break out against them |
| 20:1 |
AndThen God spoke all these words saying: |
| 20:2 |
I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt out of the house of bondageslavery; |
| 20:3 |
Youyou shall have no other gods before me |
| 20:4 |
You shall not make for yourself aan gravenidol imagewhether orin anythe likenessform of anything that is in heaven above or that is inon the earth beneath or that is in the water under the earth; |
| 20:5 |
youYou shall not bow down to them or serveworship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God visitingpunishing children for the iniquity of theparents fathers upon the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hatereject me |
| 20:6 |
but showing steadfast love to thousandsthe thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments |
| 20:7 |
You shall not takemake wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God in vain; for the Lord will not holdacquit himanyone guiltless who takesmisuses his name in vain |
| 20:8 |
Remember the sabbath day toand keep it holy |
| 20:9 |
Six days you shall labor and do all your work; |
| 20:10 |
butBut the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work —you or your son or your daughter your manservantmale or yourfemale maidservantslave or your cattlelivestock or the sojourneralien whoresident isin within your gates;towns |
| 20:11 |
forFor in six days the Lord made heaven and earth the sea and all that is in them andbut rested the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and hallowedconsecrated it |
| 20:12 |
Honor your father and your mother so that your days may be long in the land whichthat the Lord your God givesis giving you |
| 20:13 |
You shall not killmurder |
| 20:17 |
You shall not covet your neighbors house; you shall not covet your neighbors wife or hismale manservant or hisfemale maidservantslave or his ox or hisdonkey ass or anything that isbelongs to your neighborsneighbor |
| 20:18 |
NowWhen when all the people perceivedwitnessed the thunderingsthunder and thelightning lightnings and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking thethey people were afraid and trembled; and they stood afarat offa distance |
| 20:19 |
and said to Moses You speak to us and we will hearlisten; but letdo not let God speak to us lestor we will die |
| 20:20 |
And Moses said to the people Do not fearbe afraid; for God has come only to provetest you and thatto put the fear of him mayupon beyou beforeso your eyes that you maydo not sin |
| 20:21 |
AndThen the people stood afarat offa distance while Moses drew near to the thick darkness where God was |
| 20:22 |

AndHe he said to them Thus says the Lord the God of Israel Put everyyour man his sword on hisyour side andeach goof toyou Go back and froforth from gate to gate throughout the camp and slayeach everyof manyou hiskill your brother andyour everyfriend man his companion and everyyour man his neighbor |
| 32:28 |
AndThe the sons of Levi did accordingas toMoses thecommanded wordand ofabout Moses;three andthousand there fell of the people fell on that day about three thousand men |
| 32:29 |
And Moses said Today you have ordained yourselves for the service of the Lord each one at the cost of hisa son andor ofa his brother thatand heso mayhave bestowbrought a blessing uponon youyourselves this day |
| 32:30 |
On the morrownext day Moses said to the people You have sinned a great sin AndBut now I will go up to the Lord; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin |
| 32:31 |
So Moses returned to the Lord and said Alas this people havehas sinned a great sin; they have made for themselves gods of gold |
| 32:32 |
But now if thouyou wiltwill only forgive their sin—andbut if not blot me I pray thee out of thythe book whichthat thouyou hasthave written |
| 32:33 |
But the Lord said to Moses Whoever has sinned against me himI will I blot out of my book |
| 32:34 |
But now go lead the people to the place ofabout which I have spoken to you; beholdsee my angel shall go beforein front of you Nevertheless inwhen the day whencomes Ifor visitpunishment I will visitpunish them for their sin upon them |
| 32:35 |
AndThen the Lord sent a plague uponon the people because they made the calf—the whichone that Aaron made |
| 33:1 |
The Lord said to Moses DepartGo goleave upthis henceplace you and the people whom you have brought up out of the land of Egypt and go to the land of which I swore to Abraham Isaac and Jacob saying To your descendants I will give it |
| 33:2 |
And I will send an angel before you and I will drive out the Canaanites the Amorites the Hittites the Per′izzitesPerizzites the Hivites and the Jeb′usitesJebusites |
| 33:3 |
Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey; but I will not go up among you lestor I would consume you inon the way for you are a stiff necked people |
| 33:4 |
When the people heard these evilharsh tidingswords they mourned; and no manone put on his ornaments |
| 33:5 |
For the Lord had said to Moses Say to the peopleIsraelites of Israel You are a stiff necked people; if for a single moment I should go up among you I would consume you So now puttake off your ornaments fromand you that I maywill knowdecide what to do withto you |
| 33:6 |
Therefore the peopleIsraelites of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments from Mount Horeb onward |
| 33:7 |
Now Moses used to take the tent and pitch it outside the camp far off from the camp; and he called it the tent of meeting And everyeveryone one who sought the Lord would go out to the tent of meeting which was outside the camp |
| 33:8 |
Whenever Moses went out to the tent all the people rosewould uprise and everystand maneach stoodof them at histhe tententrance doorof their tents and lookedwatch after Moses until he had gone into the tent |
| 33:9 |
When Moses entered the tent the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the doorentrance of the tent and the Lord would speak with Moses |
| 33:10 |
AndWhen when all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the doorentrance of the tent all the people would rise up and worshipbow everydown manall of them at histhe entrance of their tent door |
| 33:11 |
Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face as aone man speaks to hisa friend WhenThen Moseshe turnedwould againreturn intoto the camp; but his servantyoung assistant Joshua the son of Nun awould young man did not departleave from the tent |
| 33:12 |
Moses said to the Lord See thouyou sayesthave said to me Bring up this people; but thouyou hasthave not let me know whom thouyou wiltwill send with me Yet thouyou hasthave said I know you by name and you have also found favor in my sight |
| 33:13 |
Now therefore I pray thee if I have found favor in thyyour sight show me nowyour thy ways so that I may know theeyou and find favor in thyyour sight Consider too that this nation is thyyour people |
| 33:14 |
AndHe he said My presence will go with you and I will give you rest |
| 33:15 |
And he said to him If thyyour presence will not go with me do not carry us up from here |
| 33:16 |
For how shall it be known that I have found favor in thyyour sight I and thyyour people Isunless ityou notgo in thy going with us soIn thatthis way we areshall be distinct I and thyyour people from allevery other people thaton are upon the face of the earth |
| 33:17 |
AndThe the Lord said to Moses ThisI will do the very thing that you have spoken I will doasked; for you have found favor in my sight and I know you by name |
| 33:18 |
Moses said IShow prayme theeyour showglory meI thypray glory |
| 33:19 |
And he said I will make all my goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you mythe name The Lord; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy |
| 33:20 |
But he said you cannot see my face; for manno one shall not see me and live |
| 33:21 |
And the Lord saidcontinued BeholdSee there is a place by me where you shall stand uponon the rock; |
| 34:1 |
The Lord said to Moses Cut two tablestablets of stone like the first;former ones and I will write uponon the tablestablets the words that were on the firstformer tablestablets which you broke |
| 34:3 |
No manone shall come up with you and do not let noanyone man be seen throughout all the mountain; and do not let no flocks or herds feedgraze beforein front of that mountain |
| 34:4 |
So Moses cut two tablestablets of stone like the firstformer ones; and he rose early in the morning and went up on Mount Sinai as the Lord had commanded him and took in his hand the two tablestablets of stone |
| 34:5 |
AndThe the Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there and proclaimed the name ofThe the Lord |
| 34:7 |
keeping steadfast love for thousandsthe thousandth generation forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin butyet who will by no means clearclearing the guilty but visiting the iniquity of the fathersparents upon the children and the childrens children to the third and the fourth generation |
| 34:8 |
And Moses madequickly hastebowed to bow his head toward the earth and worshiped |
| 34:9 |
AndHe he said If now I have found favor in thyyour sight O Lord I pray let the Lord I pray thee go inwith the midst of us althoughAlthough itthis is a stiff necked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin and take us for thyyour inheritance |
| 34:10 |
AndHe he said: Behold I hereby make a covenant Before all your people I will doperform marvels such as have not been wroughtperformed in all the earth or in any nation; and all the people among whom you arelive shall see the work of the Lord; for it is aan terribleawesome thing that I will do with you |

| 34:28 |
AndHe he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water And he wrote uponon the tablestablets the words of the covenant the ten commandments |
| 34:29 |
When Moses came down from Mount Sinai As he came down from the mountain with the two tablestablets of the testimonycovenant in his hand as he came down from the mountain Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God |
| 34:30 |
AndWhen when Aaron and all the peopleIsraelites of Israel saw Moses behold the skin of his face shonewas shining and they were afraid to come near him |
| 34:31 |
But Moses called to them; and Aaron and all the leaders of the congregation returned to him and Moses talkedspoke with them |

AndAfterward afterward all the peopleIsraelites of Israel came near and he gave them in commandment all that the Lord had spoken with him inon Mount Sinai |
| 34:33 |
AndWhen when Moses had finished speaking with them he put a veil on his face; |
| 34:34 |
but whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him he tookwould take the veil off until he came out; and when he came out and told the peopleIsraelites of Israel what he washad been commanded |
| 34:35 |
the peopleIsraelites ofwould Israelsee saw the face of Moses that the skin of Moseshis face shonewas shining; and Moses would put the veil uponon his face again until he went in to speak with him |
| 35:1 |
Moses assembled all the congregation of the peopleIsraelites of Israel and said to them: These are the things whichthat the Lord has commanded you to do : |
| 35:2 |

And they came everyeveryone one whose heart was stirred him and everyeveryone one whose spirit movedwas himwilling and brought the Lords offering to be used for the tent of meeting and for all its service and for the holysacred garmentsvestments |

He also made the robe of the ephod woven all of blue yarn; |
| 39:23 |
and the opening of the robe in the middle of it was like the opening in a garmentcoat of mail with a binding around the opening so that it might not be torn |

ThusMoses did Moses;everything accordingjust toas all that the Lord had commanded him so he did |
| 40:17 |

And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud abodesettled upon it and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle |
