| 1:4 |
byThus which he has grantedgiven to us through these things his precious and very great promises so that through thesethem you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of passionlust and may become partakersparticipants of the divine nature |
| 1:5 |
For this very reason you must make every effort to supplementsupport your faith with virtuegoodness and virtuegoodness with knowledge |
| 1:6 |
and knowledge with self control and self control with steadfastnessendurance and steadfastnessendurance with godliness |
| 1:7 |
and godliness with brotherlymutual affection and brotherlymutual affection with love |
| 1:8 |
For if these things are yours and aboundare increasing among you they keep you from being ineffective orand unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ |
| 1:9 |
For whoeveranyone who lacks these things is blindnearsighted and shortsightedblind and hasis forgottenforgetful thatof hethe wascleansing cleansedof frompast his old sins |
| 1:10 |
Therefore brethrenbrothers and sisters be all the more zealouseager to confirm your call and election for if you do this you will never fall;stumble |
| 1:11 |
soFor therein willthis beway richlyentry provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly provided for you |
| 1:12 |
Therefore I intend always to remindkeep on reminding you of these things though you know them already and are established in the truth that has come to you have |
| 1:13 |
I think it right as long as I am in this body to arouserefresh youyour bymemory way of reminder |
| 1:14 |
since I know that the putting off of my bodydeath will become soon as indeed our Lord Jesus Christ showedhas made clear to me |
| 1:15 |
And I will seemake toevery iteffort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things |
| 1:16 |
For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ but we werehad been eyewitnesses of his majesty |
| 1:17 |
For when he received honor and glory from God the Father andwhen thethat voice was borneconveyed to him by the Majestic Glory saying This is my beloved Son my Beloved with whom I am well pleased |
| 1:18 |
weWe ourselves heard this voice bornecome from heaven forwhile we were with him on the holy mountain |
| 1:19 |
AndSo we have the prophetic wordmessage made more surefully confirmed You will do well to paybe attentionattentive to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts |
| 1:21 |
because no prophecy ever came by thehuman impulsewill of man but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God |
| 2:1 |
But false prophets also arose among the people just as there will be false teachers among you who will secretly bring in destructive heresiesopinions They will even denyingdeny the Master who bought them —bringing upon themselves swift destruction on themselves |
| 2:2 |
AndEven so many will follow their licentiousnesslicentious ways and because of themthese teachers the way of truth will be reviledmaligned |
| 2:3 |
And in their greed they will exploit you with falsedeceptive words; fromTheir ofcondemnation oldpronounced theiragainst condemnationthem long ago has not been idle and their destruction hasis not been asleep |
| 2:4 |
For if God did not spare the angels when they sinned but cast them into hell and committed them to pitschains of netherdeepest gloomdarkness to be kept until the judgment; |
| 2:5 |
and if he did not spare the ancient world buteven preservedthough he saved Noah a herald of righteousness with seven otherothers persons when he brought a flood uponon thea world of the ungodly; |
| 2:6 |
and if by turning the cities of Sodom and Gomor′rahGomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction and made them an example toof thosewhat whois werecoming to bethe ungodly; |
| 2:7 |
and if he rescued Lot a righteous Lotman greatly distressed by the licentiousness of the wickedlawless |
| 2:8 |
for by what that righteous man sawliving andamong heardthem asday heafter livedday among them he was vexedtormented in his righteous soul dayby after day with their lawless deeds that he saw and heard |
| 2:10 |
and —especially those who indulge their flesh in thedepraved lust ofand defilingwho passion and despise authority Bold and wilfulwillful they are not afraid to revileslander the glorious ones |
| 2:11 |
whereas angels though greater in might and power do not pronouncebring against them a revilingslanderous judgment uponfrom them before the Lord |
| 2:12 |
ButThese thesepeople however are like irrational animals mere creatures of instinct born to be caught and killed revilingThey inslander matterswhat ofthey whichdo theynot areunderstand ignorantand willwhen bethose creatures are destroyed inthey thealso samewill destructionbe withdestroyed them |
| 2:13 |
suffering wrongthe penalty for theirdoing wrongdoingwrong They count it a pleasure to revel in the daytime They are blots and blemishes reveling in their dissipation carousingwhile they feast with you |
| 2:15 |
ForsakingThey have left the rightstraight wayroad theyand have gone astray; theyfollowing have followed the wayroad of Balaam the son of Be′orBosor who loved gainthe fromwages wrongdoingof doing wrong |
| 2:16 |
but was rebuked for his own transgression; a dumbspeechless assdonkey spoke with a human voice and restrained the prophets madness |
| 2:17 |
These are waterless springs and mists driven by a storm; for them the netherdeepest gloom of darkness has been reserved |
| 2:18 |
For utteringthey loudspeak boastsbombastic ofnonsense follyand they entice with licentious passionsdesires of the flesh menthey entice people who have barelyjust escaped from those who live in error |
| 2:19 |
They promise them freedom but they themselves are slaves of corruption; for whateverpeople overcomesare aslaves man to thatwhatever hemasters isthem enslaved |
| 2:21 |
For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment deliveredthat was passed on to them |
| 2:22 |
It has happened to them according to the true proverb The dog turns back to hisits own vomit and theThe sow is washed only to wallow in the miremud |
| 3:1 |
This is now beloved the second letter that I haveam writtenwriting to you; beloved and in both of them I haveam arousedtrying to arouse your sincere mindintention by wayreminding ofyou reminder; |
| 3:2 |
that you should remember the predictionswords ofspoken in the past by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken through your apostles |
| 3:3 |
First of all you must understand this that scoffers will come in the last days withscoffers will come scoffing followingand indulging their own passionslusts |
| 3:4 |
and saying Where is the promise of his coming For ever since theour fathersancestors felldied asleep all things havecontinue continued as they were from the beginning of creation |
| 3:5 |
They deliberately ignore this fact that by the word of God heavens existed long ago and an earth was formed out of water and by means of water |
| 3:6 |
through which the world of that thentime existed was deluged with water and perished |
| 3:7 |
But by the same word the present heavens and earth that now exist have been storedreserved up for fire being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of ungodlythe mengodless |
| 3:8 |
But do not ignore this one fact beloved that with the Lord one day is aslike a thousand years and a thousand years asare like one day |
| 3:9 |
The Lord is not slow about his promise as some countthink of slowness but is forbearingpatient towardwith you not wishingwanting that any shouldto perish but that all shouldto reachcome to repentance |
| 3:10 |
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise and the elements will be dissolved with fire and the earth and theeverything works that areis upondone on it will be burned updisclosed |
| 3:11 |
Since all these things are thus to be dissolved in this way what sort of persons ought you to be in leading lives of holiness and godliness |
| 3:12 |
waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God because of which the heavens will be kindledset ablaze and dissolved and the elements will melt with fire |
| 3:13 |
But accordingin toaccordance with his promise we wait for new heavens and a new earth inwhere which righteousness dwellsis at home |
| 3:14 |
Therefore beloved sincewhile you waitare waiting for these bethings zealousstrive to be found by him at peace without spot or blemish; and at peace |
| 3:15 |
Andand countregard the forbearancepatience of our Lord as salvation So also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given him |
| 3:17 |
You therefore beloved knowingsince thisyou beforehandare forewarned beware lestthat you beare not carried away with the error of the lawless men and lose your own stability |
