6:12 Concerning this house whichthat you are building if you will walk in my statutes and obey my ordinances and keep all my commandments andby walkwalking in them then I will establish my wordpromise with you which I spokemade to David your father David
6:13 And I will dwell among the children of Israel and will not forsake my people Israel
6:18 The cedar within the house washad carvedcarvings in the form of gourds and open flowers; all was cedar no stone was seen
6:20 The interior of the inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long twenty cubits wide and twenty cubits high; and he overlaid it with pure gold He also madeoverlaid anthe altar ofwith cedar
6:21 And Solomon overlaid the inside of the house with pure gold andthen he drew chains of gold across in front of the inner sanctuary and overlaid it with gold
6:22 AndNext he overlaid the whole house with gold untilin allorder that the whole house wasmight finishedbe Alsoperfect; even the whole altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary he overlaid with gold
6:27 He put the cherubim in the innermost part of the house; and the wings of the cherubim were spread out so that a wing of one touchedwas touching the one wall and a wing of the other cherub touchedwas touching the other wall; their other wings touchedtoward each other in the middlecenter of the house were touching wing to wing
6:28 AndHe healso overlaid the cherubim with gold
6:29 He carved all the walls of the house roundall around about with carved figuresengravings of cherubim and palm trees and open flowers in the inner and outer rooms
6:31 For the entrance to the inner sanctuary he made doors of olivewood; the lintel and the doorposts formedwere afive pentagonsided
6:32 He covered the two doors of olivewood with carvings of cherubim palm trees and open flowers; he overlaid them with gold and spread gold uponon the cherubim and uponon the palm trees
6:33 So also he made for the entrance to the nave doorposts of olivewood infour thesided formeach of a square
6:35 OnHe them he carved cherubim and palm trees and open flowers; andoverlaying he overlaid them with gold evenly applied upon the carved work
6:36 He built the inner court with three courses of hewndressed stone andto one course of cedar beams
6:38 AndIn in the eleventh year in the month of Bul which is the eighth month the house was finished in all its parts and according to all its specifications He was seven years in building it
7:2 He built the House of the Forest of the Lebanon; itsone length was a hundred cubits andlong its breadth fifty cubits wide and its height thirty cubits andhigh it was built uponon threefour rows of cedar pillars with cedar beams uponon the pillars
7:3 AndIt it was coveredroofed with cedar aboveon the chambers that were upon the forty five pillarsrafters fifteen in each row which were on the pillars
7:4 There were window frames in the three rows andfacing windoweach oppositeother window in the three tiersrows
7:5 All the doorways and windowsdoorposts had squarefour sided frames andopposite windowfacing waseach oppositeother window in the three tiersrows
7:6 AndHe he made the Hall of Pillars; its length was fifty cubits long and its breadth thirty cubits; therewide There was a porch in front with pillars and a canopy beforein front of them
7:7 AndHe he made the Hall of the Throne where he was to pronounce judgment even the Hall of Judgment;Justice itcovered was finished with cedar from floor to raftersfloor
7:8 His own house where he waswould toreside dwell in the other court back of the hall was of likethe workmanshipsame construction Solomon also made a house like this hall for Pharaohs daughter whom he had taken in marriage
7:9 All these were made of costly stones hewncut according to measure sawed with saws back and front even from the foundation to the coping and from theoutside court of the house of the Lord to the great court
7:11 AndThere above were costly stones hewnabove accordingcut to measurementmeasure and cedarcedarwood
7:12 The great court had three courses of hewndressed stone roundto aboutone andlayer a course of cedar beams all around; so had the inner court of the house of the Lord and the vestibule of the house
7:13 AndNow King Solomon sentinvited and broughtreceived Hiram from Tyre
7:14 He was the son of a widow of the tribe of Naph′taliNaphtali andwhose his father was a man of Tyre ahad workerbeen an artisan in bronze; and he was full of wisdomskill understandingintelligence and skillknowledge forin makingworking any work in bronze He came to King Solomon and did all his work
7:15 He cast two pillars of bronze Eighteen cubits was the height of the one pillar and a linecord of twelve cubits measuredwould itsencircle circumference; it was hollow and its thickness was four fingers; the second pillar was the same
7:16 He also made two capitals of molten bronze to set uponon the tops of the pillars; the height of the one capital was five cubits and the height of the other capital was five cubits
7:17 ThenThere hewere made two nets of checker work with wreaths of chain work for the capitals uponon the tops of the pillars; aseven net for the one capital and aseven net for the other capital
7:18 LikewiseHe he made pomegranates;the incolumns with two rows roundaround abouteach uponlatticework the one network to cover the capitalcapitals that waswere uponabove the top of the pillarpomegranates; and he did the same with the other capital
7:19 Now the capitals that were uponon the tops of the pillars in the vestibule were of lily work four cubits high
7:20 The capitals were uponon the two pillars and also above the rounded projection whichthat was beside the networklatticework; there were two hundred pomegranates in two rows roundall aboutaround; and so with the other capital
7:21 He set up the pillars at the vestibule of the temple; he set up the pillar on the south and called itsit name Jachin; and he set up the pillar on the north and called itsit nameBoaz Bo′az
7:22 AndOn upon the tops of the pillars was lily work Thus the work of the pillars was finished
7:23 Then he made the molten sea; it was round ten cubits from brim to brim and five cubits high andA a line of thirty cubits measuredwould itsencircle circumferenceit completely
7:24 Under its brim were gourdspanels forall thirtyaround it each of ten cubits compassingsurrounding the sea round about; thethere gourds were in two rows castof withpanels itcast when it was cast
7:25 It stood uponon twelve oxen three facing north three facing west three facing south and three facing east; the sea was set uponon them andThe allhindquarters theirof hindereach parts were inwardtoward the inside
7:26 Its thickness was a handbreadth; and its brim was made like the brim of a cup like the flower of a lily; it held two thousand baths
7:28 This was the construction of the stands: they had panelsborders; and the panelsborders were setwithin in the frames;
7:29 and on the panelsborders that were set in the frames were lions oxen and cherubim UponOn the frames both above and below the lions and oxen there were wreaths of beveled work
7:30 MoreoverEach each stand had four bronze wheels and axles of bronze; and at the four corners were supports for a laverbasin The supports were cast with wreaths at the side of each
7:31 Its opening was within athe crown whichwhose projectedheight upwardwas one cubit; its opening was round as a pedestal is made; it was a cubit and a half deepwide At its opening there were carvings; and its panelsborders were squarefour sided not round
7:32 AndThe the four wheels were underneath the panelsborders; the axles of the wheels were ofin one piece with the stands; and the height of a wheel was a cubit and a half
7:35 AndOn on the top of the stand there was a round band half a cubit high; and on the top of the stand its stays and its panelsborders were of one piece with it
7:36 AndOn on the surfaces of its stays and on its panelsborders he carved cherubim lions and palm trees accordingwhere toeach thehad space of each with wreaths roundall aboutaround
7:37 AfterIn this mannerway he made the ten stands; all of them were cast alike ofwith the same measuresize and the same form
7:38 AndHe he made ten laversbasins of bronze; each laverbasin held forty baths each laverbasin measured four cubits; and there was a laverbasin for each of the ten stands
7:39 AndHe he set five of the stands five on the south side of the house and five on the north side of the house; and he set the sea aton the southeast corner of the house
7:41 the two pillars the two bowls of the capitals that were on the tops of the pillars and the two networkslatticeworks to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were on the tops of the pillars;
7:42 and the four hundred pomegranates for the two networkslatticeworks two rows of pomegranates for each networklatticework to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were uponon the pillars;
7:43 the ten stands and the ten laversbasins uponon the stands;
7:44 and the one sea and the twelve oxen underneath the sea
7:45 NowThe the pots the shovels and the basins all these vessels inthat theHiram housemade offor theKing LordSolomon whichfor Hiramthe madehouse forof Kingthe SolomonLord were of burnished bronze
7:47 And Solomon left all the vessels unweighed because there were so many of them; the weight of the bronze was not found outdetermined
7:49 the lampstands of pure gold five on the south side and five on the north beforein front of the inner sanctuary; the flowers the lamps and the tongs of gold;
7:50 the cups snuffers basins dishes for incense and firepans of pure gold; and the sockets of gold for the doors of the innermost part of the house the most holy place and for the doors of the nave of the temple of gold
7:51 Thus all the work that King Solomon did on the house of the Lord was finished And Solomon brought in the things whichthat David his father David had dedicated the silver the gold and the vessels and stored them in the treasuries of the house of the Lord
8:1 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes the leaders of the fathersancestral houses of the peopleIsraelites of Israel before King Solomon in Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the city of David which is Zion
8:2 AndAll all the menpeople of Israel assembled to King Solomon at the feastfestival in the month Eth′animEthanim which is the seventh month
8:3 And all the elders of Israel came and the priests tookcarried up the ark
8:4 AndSo they brought up the ark of the Lord the tent of meeting and all the holy vessels that were in the tent; the priests and the Levites brought them up
8:5 And King Solomon and all the congregation of Israel who had assembled before him were with him before the ark sacrificing so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered
8:8 AndThe the poles were so long that the ends of the poles were seen from the holy place beforein front of the inner sanctuary; but they could not be seen from outside; and they are there to this day
8:9 There was nothing in the ark except the two tablestablets of stone whichthat Moses puthad placed there at Horeb where the Lord made a covenant with the peopleIsraelites of Israel when they came out of the land of Egypt
8:12 Then Solomon said The Lord has set the sun in the heavens but has said that he would dwell in thick darkness
8:13 I have built theeyou an exalted house a place for theeyou to dwell in for everforever
8:14 Then the king facedturned aboutaround and blessed all the assembly of Israel while all the assembly of Israel stood
8:15 AndHe he said Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel who with his hand has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to David my father David saying
8:16 Since the day that I brought my people Israel out of Egypt I chosehave nonot chosen a city infrom allany of the tribes of Israel in which to build a house that my name might be there; but I chose David to be over my people Israel
8:17 NowMy itfather wasDavid inhad theit heartin ofmind David my father to build a house for the name of the Lord the God of Israel
8:18 But the Lord said to David my father WhereasDavid itYou wasdid inwell yourto heartconsider tobuilding build a house for my name you did well that it was in your heart;
8:20 Now the Lord has fulfilledupheld histhe promise whichthat he made; for I have risen in the place of David my father andDavid; I sit on the throne of Israel as the Lord promised and I have built the house for the name of the Lord the God of Israel
8:21 AndThere there I have provided a place for the ark in which is the covenant of the Lord whichthat he made with our fathersancestors when he brought them out of the land of Egypt
8:22 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the assembly of Israel and spread forthout his hands towardto heaven;
8:23 andHe said O Lord God of Israel there is no God like theeyou in heaven above or on earth beneath keeping covenant and showing steadfast love tofor thyyour servants who walk before theeyou with all their heart;
8:24 whothe hastcovenant that you kept withfor thyyour servant David my father whatDavid thouas didstyou declaredeclared to him; yeayou thoupromised didst speak with thyyour mouth and withhave thythis handday hast fulfilled itwith thisyour dayhand
8:25 NowTherefore therefore O Lord God of Israel keep withfor thyyour servant David my father whatDavid thouthat hastwhich you promised him saying There shall never fail you a mansuccessor before me to sit uponon the throne of Israel if only your sonschildren takelook heed to their way to walk before me as you have walked before me
8:26 NowTherefore therefore O God of Israel let thyyour word be confirmed which thouyou hastpromised spoken to thyyour servant David my father David
8:27 But will God indeed dwell on the earth BeholdEven heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain thee;you how much less this house whichthat I have built
8:28 YetRegard haveyour regardservants to the prayer of thy servant and to his supplicationplea O Lord my God hearkeningheeding to the cry and to the prayer whichthat thyyour servant prays beforeto theeyou this daytoday;
8:29 that thyyour eyes may be open night and day toward this house the place of which thouyou hast said My name shall be there that thouyou mayestmay hearkenheed to the prayer whichthat thyyour servant offersprays toward this place
8:30 AndHear hearken thou to the supplicationplea of thyyour servant and of thyyour people Israel when they pray toward this place; yeaO hear thou in heaven thyyour dwelling place; heed and when thou hearest forgive
8:31 If asomeone man sins against hisa neighbor and is madegiven to take an oath to swear and comes and swears his oath before thineyour altar in this house
8:32 then hear thou in heaven and act and judge thyyour servants condemning the guilty by bringing histheir conduct uponon histheir own head and vindicating the righteous by rewarding himthem according to histheir righteousness
8:33 When thyyour people Israel having sinned against you are defeated before thean enemy becausebut they have sinned against thee if they turn again to theeyou andconfess acknowledgeyour thy name and pray and makeplead supplicationwith toyou thee in this house;
8:34 then hear thou in heaven and forgive the sin of thyyour people Israel and bring them again to the land whichthat thouyou gavestgave to their fathersancestors
8:35 When heaven is shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against theeyou ifand then they pray toward this place andconfess acknowledgeyour thy name and turn from their sin whenbecause thouyou dostpunish afflict them
8:36 then hear thou in heaven and forgive the sin of thyyour servants thyyour people Israel when thouyou dost teach them the good way in which they should walk; and grant rain uponon thyyour land which thouyou hasthave given to thyyour people as an inheritance
8:37 If there is famine in the land if there is pestilenceplague or blight or mildew or locust or caterpillar; if their enemy besieges them in any of their cities; whatever plague whatever sickness there is;
8:38 whatever prayer whatever supplicationplea there is madefrom by any manindividual or byfrom all thyyour people Israel eachall knowing the afflictionafflictions of histheir own hearthearts andso stretchingthat they stretch out histheir hands toward this house;
8:39 then hear thou in heaven thyyour dwelling place and forgive and act and render to eachall whose hearthearts thouyou knowest know—according to all histheir ways for thou thou only knowestyou theknow heartswhat ofis allin theevery childrenhuman ofheart— men;
8:40 so that they may fear theeyou all the days that they live in the land whichthat thouyou gavestgave to our fathersancestors
8:41 Likewise when a foreigner who is not of thyyour people Israel comes from a fardistant countryland forbecause thyof namesyour sakename
8:42 —for they shall hear of thyyour great name andyour thy mighty hand and ofyour thy outstretched arm —when hea foreigner comes and prays toward this house
8:43 then hear thou in heaven thyyour dwelling place and do according to all forthat which the foreigner calls to thee;you inso order that all the peoples of the earth may know thyyour name and fear theeyou as do thyyour people Israel and so that they may know that your name has been invoked on this house whichthat I have built is called by thy name
8:44 If thyyour people go out to battle against their enemy by whatever way thouyou shaltshall send them and they pray to the Lord toward the city whichthat thouyou hasthave chosen and the house whichthat I have built for thyyour name
8:45 then hear thou in heaven their prayer and their supplicationplea and maintain their cause
8:46 If they sin against theeyou—for there is no manone who does not sin—and thouyou artare angry with them and dost give them to an enemy so that they are carried away captive to the land of the enemy far off or near;
8:47 yet if they laycome it to hearttheir senses in the land to which they have been carriedtaken captive and repent and makeplead supplicationwith toyou thee in the land of their captors saying We have sinned and have acteddone perverselywrong; andwe have acted wickedly;
8:48 if they repent with all their mindheart and withsoul all their heart in the land of their enemies who carriedtook them captive and pray to theeyou toward their land which thouyou gavestgave to their fathersancestors the city whichthat thouyou hasthave chosen and the house whichthat I have built for thyyour name;
8:49 then hear thou in heaven thyyour dwelling place their prayer and their supplicationplea and maintain their cause
8:50 and forgive thyyour people who have sinned against theeyou and all their transgressions whichthat they have committed against theeyou; and grant them compassion in the sight of thosetheir whocaptors carriedso them captive that they may have compassion on them
8:51 for they are thyyour people and thy heritage which thouyou didstbrought bring out of Egypt from the midst of the iron furnacesmelter
8:52 Let thyyour eyes be open to the supplicationplea of thyyour servant and to the supplicationplea of thyyour people Israel givinglistening ear to them whenever they call to theeyou
8:53 For thouyou didsthave separateseparated them from among all the peoples of the earth to be thyyour heritage just as thouyou didstpromised declare through Moses thyyour servant when thouyou didstbrought bring our fathersancestors out of Egypt O Lord God
8:54 Now aswhen Solomon finished offering all this prayer and supplicationthis plea to the Lord he arose from beforefacing the altar of the Lord where he had knelt with hands outstretched toward heaven;
8:55 and he stood and blessed all the assembly of Israel with a loud voice saying :
8:56 Blessed be the Lord who has given rest to his people Israel according to all that he promised; not one word has failed of all his good promise which he utteredspoke bythrough Moses his servant Moses
8:57 The Lord our God be with us as he was with our fathersancestors; may he not leave us or forsakeabandon us;
8:58 thatbut he may incline our hearts to him to walk in all his ways and to keep his commandments his statutes and his ordinances which he commanded our fathersancestors
8:59 Let these words of mine wherewithwith which I havepleaded made supplication before the Lord be near to the Lord our God day and night and may he maintain the cause of his servant and the cause of his people Israel as each day requires;
8:60 so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the Lord is God; there is no other
8:61 LetTherefore yourdevote heartyourselves thereforecompletely be wholly true to the Lord our God walking in his statutes and keeping his commandments as at this day
8:63 Solomon offered as peacesacrifices offeringsof well being to the Lord twenty two thousand oxen and aone hundred and twenty thousand sheep So the king and all the people of Israel dedicated the house of the Lord
8:64 The same day the king consecrated the middle of the court that was beforein front of the house of the Lord; for there he offered the burnt offeringofferings and the cerealgrain offeringofferings and the fat pieces of the peacesacrifices offeringsof well being because the bronze altar that was before the Lord was too small to receive the burnt offeringofferings and the cerealgrain offeringofferings and the fat pieces of the peacesacrifices offeringsof well being
8:65 So Solomon held the feastfestival at that time and all Israel with him —a great assembly people from theLebo entrancehamath of Hamath to the BrookWadi of Egypt —before the Lord our God seven days
8:66 On the eighth day he sent the people away; and they blessed the king and went to their homestents joyful and gladin ofgood heartspirits forbecause of all the goodness that the Lord had shown to David his servant David and to Israel his people Israel
9:3 AndThe the Lord said to him I have heard your prayer and your supplicationplea which you have made before me; I have consecrated this house whichthat you have built and put my name there for everforever; my eyes and my heart will be there for all time
9:4 AndAs as for you if you will walk before me as David your father walked with integrity of heart and uprightness doing according to all that I have commanded you and keeping my statutes and my ordinances
9:5 then I will establish your royal throne over Israel forforever ever as I promised David your father David saying There shall not fail you a mansuccessor uponon the throne of Israel
9:6 ButIf if you turn aside from following me you or your children and do not keep my commandments and my statutes whichthat I have set before you but go and serve other gods and worship them
9:7 then I will cut Israel off Israel from the land whichthat I have given them; and the house whichthat I have consecrated for my name I will cast out of my sight; and Israel will become a proverb and a bywordtaunt among all peoples
9:8 AndThis this house will become a heap of ruins; everyone passing by it will be astonished and will hiss; and they will say Why has the Lord done thussuch a thing to this land and to this house
9:9 Then they will say Because they forsookhave forsaken the Lord their God who brought their fathersancestors out of the land of Egypt and laidembraced hold on other gods andworshiping worshiped them and servedserving them; therefore the Lord has brought all this evildisaster upon them
9:11 andKing Hiram king of Tyre hadhaving supplied Solomon with cedar and cypress timber and gold as much as he desired King Solomon gave to Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee
9:12 But when Hiram came from Tyre to see the cities whichthat Solomon had given him they did not please him
9:13 Therefore he said What kind of cities are these whichthat you have given me my brother So they are called the land of Cabul to this day
9:14 But Hiram had sent to the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold
9:15 AndThis this is the account of the forced labor whichthat King Solomon leviedconscripted to build the house of the Lord and his own house and the Millo and the wall of Jerusalem and Hazor andMegiddo Megid′do and Gezer
9:16 Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up and captured Gezer and burntburned it withdown fire and had slainkilled the Canaanites who dweltlived in the city and had given it as dowry to his daughter Solomons wife;
9:17 so Solomon rebuilt Gezer and Lower Beth hor′onhoron
9:18 andBaalath Ba′alath and Tamar in the wilderness inwithin the land of Judah
9:19 andas allwell theas storeall citiesof thatSolomons Solomonstorage hadcities and the cities for his chariots and the cities for his horsemencavalry and whatever Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem in Lebanon and in all the land of his dominion
9:20 All the people who were left of the Amorites the Hittites the Per′izzitesPerizzites the Hivites and the Jeb′usitesJebusites who were not of the people of Israel—
9:21 their descendants who were still left after them in the land whom the peopleIsraelites of Israel were unable to destroy utterlycompletely—these Solomon madeconscripted afor forcedslave levylabor of slaves and so they are to this day
9:22 But of the peopleIsraelites of Israel Solomon made no slaves; they were the soldiers they were his officials his commanders his captains hisand chariotthe commanders andof his horsemenchariotry and cavalry
9:23 These were the chief officers who were over Solomons work: five hundred and fifty who had charge of the people who carried on the work
9:24 But Pharaohs daughter went up from the city of David to her own house whichthat Solomon had built for her; then he built the Millo
9:25 Three times a year Solomon used to offer up burnt offerings and peacesacrifices offeringsof uponwell being on the altar whichthat he built tofor the Lord burningoffering incense before the Lord So he finishedcompleted the house
9:26 King Solomon built a fleet of ships at E′zionEzion ge′bergeber which is near Eloth on the shore of the Red Sea in the land of Edom
9:27 And Hiram sent his servants with the fleet hissailors servants seamen who were familiar with the sea together with the servants of Solomon;
9:28 andThey they went to Ophir and broughtimported from there gold to the amount of four hundred and twenty talents; andof gold which they broughtdelivered it to King Solomon
10:1 NowWhen when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerningfame due to the name of the Lord she came to test him with hard questions
10:3 And Solomon answered all her questions; there was nothing hidden from the king whichthat he could not explain to her
10:4 AndWhen when the queen of Sheba had seenobserved all the wisdom of Solomon the house that he had built
10:5 the food of his table the seating of his officials and the attendance of his servants their clothing his cupbearersvalets and his burnt offerings whichthat he offered at the house of the Lord there was no more spirit in her
10:6 AndSo she said to the king The report was true whichthat I heard in my own land of your affairsaccomplishments and of your wisdom
10:7 but I did not believe the reports until I came and my own eyes had seen it; andNot beholdeven the half washad notbeen told me; your wisdom and prosperity far surpass the report whichthat I had heard
10:8 Happy are your wives Happy are these your servants who continually standattend before you and hear your wisdom
10:9 Blessed be the Lord your God who has delighted in you and set you on the throne of Israel Because the Lord loved Israel forforever ever he has made you king thatto you may execute justice and righteousness
10:10 Then she gave the king aone hundred and twenty talents of gold and a very great quantity of spices and precious stones; never again camedid suchspices ancome abundancein ofsuch spicesquantity as thesethat which the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon
10:11 Moreover the fleet of Hiram which broughtcarried gold from Ophir brought from Ophir a very great amountquantity of almug wood and precious stones
10:12 AndFrom the kingalmug madewood of the almugking woodmade supports for the house of the Lord and for the kings house lyres also and harps for the singers; no such almug wood has come or been seen to this day
10:13 AndMeanwhile King Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba allevery desire that she desiredexpressed whateveras shewell askedas besides what washe givengave her byout theof bountySolomons ofroyal Kingbounty SolomonThen So she turnedreturned and went back to her own land with her servants
10:14 NowThe the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred and sixty six talents of gold
10:15 besides that which came from the traders and from the trafficbusiness of the merchants and from all the kings of Arabia and from the governors of the land
10:16 King Solomon made two hundred large shields of beaten gold; six hundred shekels of gold went into each large shield
10:17 AndHe he made three hundred shields of beaten gold; three minas of gold went into each shield; and the king put them in the House of the Forest of Lebanon
10:19 The throne had six steps andThe attop the back of the throne was arounded calfsin headthe back and on each side of the seat were arm rests and two lions standing beside the arm rests
10:20 while twelve lions stoodwere therestanding one on each end of a step on the six steps TheNothing like of it was neverever made in any kingdom
10:21 All King Solomons drinking vessels were of gold and all the vessels of the House of the Forest of Leb′anonLebanon were of pure gold; none were of silver —it was not considered as anything in the days of Solomon
10:24 AndThe the whole earth sought the presence of Solomon to hear his wisdom which God had put into his mind
10:25 Every one of them brought hisa present articlesobjects of silver and gold garments myrrhweaponry spices horses and mules so much year by year
10:26 And Solomon gathered together chariots and horsemenhorses; he had fourteen hundred chariots and twelve thousand horsemenhorses whomwhich he stationed in the chariot cities and with the king in Jerusalem
10:27 AndThe the king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stonestones and he made cedarcedars as plentifulnumerous as the sycamoresycamores of the Shephe′lahShephelah
10:28 And Solomons import of horses was from Egypt and Ku′eKue and the kings traders received them from Ku′eKue at a price
10:29 A chariot could be imported from Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver and a horse for aone hundred and fifty; and so through the kings traders they were exported to all the kings of the Hittites and the kings of SyriaAram
11:1 Now King Solomon loved many foreign women: along with the daughter of Pharaoh: and Moabite Ammonite E′domiteEdomite Sido′nianSidonian and Hittite women
11:2 from the nations concerning which the Lord had said to the peopleIsraelites of Israel You shall not enter into marriage with them neither shall they with you; for surely they will turnsurely awayincline your heart afterto follow their gods; Solomon clung to these in love
11:3 HeAmong hadhis wives were seven hundred wives princesses and three hundred concubines; and his wives turned away his heart
11:4 For when Solomon was old his wives turned away his heart after other gods; and his heart was not wholly true to the Lord his God as was the heart of David his father David
11:5 For Solomon wentfollowed afterAstarte Ash′toreth the goddess of the Sido′niansSidonians and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites
11:6 So Solomon did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and did not whollycompletely follow the Lord as David his father David had done
11:8 AndHe sodid hethe didsame for all his foreign wives who burnedoffered incense and sacrificed to their gods
11:9 AndThen the Lord was angry with Solomon because his heart had turned away from the Lord the God of Israel who had appeared to him twice
11:10 and had commanded him concerning this thingmatter that he should not gofollow after other gods; but he did not keepobserve what the Lord commanded
11:11 Therefore the Lord said to Solomon Since this has been your mind and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes whichthat I have commanded you I will surely tear the kingdom from you and will give it to your servant
11:12 Yet for the sake of David your father David I will not do it in your dayslifetime; but I will tear it out of the hand of your son
11:13 However I will not however tear away all the entire kingdom; but I will give one tribe to your son for the sake of David my servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem which I have chosen
11:14 AndThen the Lord raised up an adversary against Solomon Hadad the E′domiteEdomite; he was of the royal house in Edom
11:15 For when David was in Edom and Jo′abJoab the commander of the army went up to bury the slaindead he slewkilled every male in Edom
11:16 for Jo′abJoab and all Israel remained there six months until he had cuteliminated off every male in Edom;
11:17 but Hadad fled to Egypt together with certainsome E′domitesEdomites who were servants of his fathersfather servantsHe Hadadwas beinga yetyoung aboy littleat childthat time
11:18 They set out from Mid′ianMidian and came to Paran; andthey took menpeople with them from Paran and came to Egypt to Pharaoh king of Egypt who gave him a house and assigned him an allowance of food and gave him land
11:19 And Hadad found great favor in the sight of Pharaoh so that he gave him inhis marriagesister thein sisterlaw offor hisa own wife the sister of Tah′penesQueen theTahpenes queen
11:20 AndThe the sister of Tah′penesTahpenes boregave birth by him Genu′bathto his son Genubath whom Tah′penesTahpenes weaned in Pharaohs house; andGenubath Genu′bath was in Pharaohs house among the sonschildren of Pharaoh
11:21 ButWhen when Hadad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathersancestors and that Jo′abJoab the commander of the army was dead Hadad said to Pharaoh Let me depart that I may go to my own country
11:22 But Pharaoh said to him What havedo you lackedlack with me that you are now seekingseek to go to your own country And he said toNo himdo Only let me go
11:23 God also raised up asanother an adversary toagainst himSolomon Rezon the son of Eli′adaEliada who had fled from his master HadadKing e′zerHadadezer king of Zobah
11:24 AndHe he gathered menfollowers aboutaround him and became leader of a marauding band after the slaughter by David; and they went to Damascus andsettled dwelt there and made him king in Damascus
11:25 He was an adversary of Israel all the days of Solomon doingmaking mischieftrouble as Hadad did; and he abhorreddespised Israel and reigned over SyriaAram
11:26 Jerobo′amJeroboam the son of Nebat an E′phraimiteEphraimite of Zer′edahZeredah a servant of Solomon whose mothers name was Zeru′ahZeruah a widow alsorebelled lifted up his hand against the king
11:27 AndThe thisfollowing was the reason why he liftedrebelled up his hand against the king Solomon built the Millo and closed up the breachgap in the wall of the city of David his father David
11:28 The man Jerobo′amJeroboam was very able and when Solomon saw that the young man was industrious he gave him charge over all the forced labor of the house of Joseph
11:29 AndAbout at that time when Jerobo′amJeroboam wentwas outleaving of Jerusalem the prophet Ahi′jahAhijah the Shi′loniteShilonite found him on the road NowAhijah Ahi′jah had cladclothed himself with a new garment; andThe the two of them were alone in the open country
11:30 Thenwhen Ahi′jahAhijah laid hold of the new garment thathe was onwearing him and tore it into twelve pieces
11:31 AndHe hethen said to Jerobo′amJeroboam: Take for yourself ten pieces; for thus says the Lord the God of Israel BeholdSee I am about to tear the kingdom from the hand of Solomon and will give you ten tribes
11:32 butOne hetribe shallwill haveremain onehis tribe for the sake of my servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem the city whichthat I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel
11:33 This is because he has forsaken me and worshiped Ash′torethAstarte the goddess of the Sido′niansSidonians Chemosh the god of Moab and Milcom the god of the Ammonites and has not walked in my ways doing what is right in my sight and keeping my statutes and my ordinances as David his father David did
11:34 Nevertheless I will not take the whole kingdom outaway offrom hishim hand; but I will make him ruler all the days of his life for the sake of David my servant David whom I chose and who keptdid keep my commandments and my statutes;
11:35 but I will take the kingdom outaway offrom his sonsson hand and will give it to you—that is the ten tribes
11:36 Yet to his son I will give one tribe so that David my servant David may always have a lamp before me in Jerusalem the city where I have chosen to put my name
11:37 And I will take you and you shall reign over all that your soul desires; and you shall be king over Israel
11:38 AndIf if you will hearkenlisten to all that I command you and will walk in my ways and do what is right in my eyessight by keeping my statutes and my commandments as David my servant did I will be with you and will build you aan sureenduring house as I built for David and I will give Israel to you
11:39 AndFor this reason I will forpunish this afflict the descendants of David but not forforever ever
11:40 Solomon sought therefore to kill Jerobo′amJeroboam; but Jerobo′amJeroboam arosepromptly and fled intoto Egypt to King Shishak king of Egypt and wasremained in Egypt until the death of Solomon
11:41 Now the rest of the acts of Solomon and all that he did andas well as his wisdom are they not written in the bookBook of the actsActs of Solomon
11:42 AndThe the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years
11:43 And Solomon slept with his fathersancestors and was buried in the city of David his father David; and Rehobo′am his son reignedRehoboam insucceeded his steadhim
12:1 Rehobo′amRehoboam went to Shechem for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king
12:2 AndWhen whenJeroboam Jerobo′am the son of Nebat heard of it for he was still in Egypt whitherwhere he had fled from King Solomon then Jerobo′amJeroboam returned from Egypt
12:3 And they sent and called him; and Jerobo′amJeroboam and all the assembly of Israel came and said to Rehobo′amRehoboam
12:4 Your father made our yoke heavy Now therefore lighten the hard service of your father and his heavy yoke uponthat he placed on us and we will serve you
12:5 He said to them DepartGo away for three days then come again to me So the people went away
12:6 Then King Rehobo′amRehoboam took counsel with the oldolder men who had stoodattended before Solomon his father Solomon while he was yetstill alive saying How do you advise me to answer this people
12:7 AndThey theyanswered said to him If you will be a servant to this people today and serve them and speak good words to them when you answer them then they will be your servants forforever ever
12:8 But he forsookdisregarded the counseladvice whichthat the oldolder men gave him and tookconsulted counsel with the young men who had grown up with him and stoodnow beforeattended him
12:9 AndHe he said to them What do you advise that we answer this people who have said to me Lighten the yoke that your father put uponon us
12:10 AndThe the young men who had grown up with him said to him Thus shall you speakshould say to this people who saidspoke to you Your father made our yoke heavy but do you must lighten it for us; thus shall you should say to them My little finger is thicker than my fathers loins
12:11 AndNow now whereas my father laid uponon you a heavy yoke I will add to your yoke My father chastiseddisciplined you with whips but I will chastisediscipline you with scorpions
12:12 So Jerobo′amJeroboam and all the people came to Rehobo′amRehoboam the third day as the king had said Come to me again the third day
12:13 AndThe the king answered the people harshly andHe forsakingdisregarded the counseladvice whichthat the oldolder men had given him
12:14 heand spoke to them according to the counseladvice of the young men saying My father made your yoke heavy but I will add to your yoke; my father chastiseddisciplined you with whips but I will chastisediscipline you with scorpions
12:15 So the king did not hearkenlisten to the people; forbecause it was a turn of affairs brought about by the Lord that he might fulfilfulfill his word which the Lord spokehad spoken by Ahi′jahAhijah the Shi′loniteShilonite to Jerobo′amJeroboam the son of Nebat
12:16 AndWhen when all Israel saw that the king didwould not hearkenlisten to them the people answered the king What portionshare havedo we have in David We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse To your tents O Israel Look now to your own house O David So Israel departedwent away to their tents
12:17 But Rehobo′amRehoboam reigned over the peopleIsraelites ofwho Israelwere wholiving dwelt in the citiestowns of Judah
12:18 ThenWhen King Rehobo′amRehoboam sent Ador′amAdoram who was taskmaster over the forced labor and all Israel stoned him to death with stones And King Rehobo′amRehoboam madethen hastehurriedly tomounted mount his chariot to flee to Jerusalem
12:20 AndWhen when all Israel heard that Jerobo′amJeroboam had returned they sent and called him to the assembly and made him king over all Israel There was noneno thatone who followed the house of David butexcept the tribe of Judah onlyalone
12:21 When Rehobo′amRehoboam came to Jerusalem he assembled all the house of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin aone hundred and eighty thousand chosen warriorstroops to fight against the house of Israel to restore the kingdom to Rehobo′amRehoboam the son of Solomon
12:22 But the word of God came to Shemai′ahShemaiah the man of God:
12:23 Say to Rehobo′amKing theRehoboam son of SolomonJudah kingson of JudahSolomon and to all the house of Judah and Benjamin and to the rest of the people
12:24 Thus says the Lord You shall not go up or fight against your kinsmenkindred the people of Israel ReturnLet everyeveryone mango to his home for this thing is from me So they hearkenedheeded to the word of the Lord and went home again according to the word of the Lord
12:25 Then Jerobo′amJeroboam built Shechem in the hill country of E′phraimEphraim and dweltresided there; and he went out from there and built Penu′elPenuel
12:26 AndThen Jerobo′amJeroboam said into hishimself heart Now the kingdom willmay turnwell backrevert to the house of David;
12:27 ifIf this people continues to go up to offer sacrifices in the house of the Lord at Jerusalem then the heart of this people will turn again to their lordmaster toKing Rehobo′amRehoboam king of Judah; and they will kill me and return to Rehobo′amKing kingRehoboam of Judah
12:28 So the king took counsel and made two calves of gold AndHe he said to the people You have gone up to Jerusalem long enough BeholdHere are your gods O Israel who brought you up out of the land of Egypt
12:29 AndHe he set one in Bethel and the other he put in Dan
12:30 And this thing became a sin for the people went to worship before the one at Bethel and tobefore the other as far as Dan
12:31 He also made houses on high places and appointed priests from among all the people who were not of the Levites
12:32 AndJeroboam Jerobo′am appointed a feastfestival on the fifteenth day of the eighth month like the feastfestival that was in Judah and he offered sacrifices uponon the altar; so he did in Bethel sacrificing to the calves that he had made And he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places that he had made
12:33 He went up to the altar whichthat he had made in Bethel on the fifteenth day in the eighth month in the month whichthat he alone had devised of his own heart; and he ordainedappointed a feastfestival for the people of Israel and he went up to the altar to burnoffer incense
13:1 AndWhile beholdJeroboam was standing by the altar to offer incense a man of God came out of Judah by the word of the Lord to Bethel Jerobo′am was standing by the altar to burn incense
13:2 Andand theproclaimed man cried against the altar by the word of the Lord and said O altar altar thus says the Lord: BeholdA a son shall be born to the house of David Josi′ahJosiah by name; and he shall sacrifice uponon you the priests of the high places who burnoffer incense uponon you and menshuman bones shall be burned uponon you
13:3 AndHe he gave a sign the same day saying This is the sign that the Lord has spoken: BeholdThe the altar shall be torn down and the ashes that are uponon it shall be poured out
13:4 AndWhen when the king heard thewhat saying of the man of God whichcried heout cried against the altar at Bethel Jerobo′amJeroboam stretched out his hand from the altar saying LaySeize hold of him AndBut histhe hand whichthat he stretched out against him driedwithered up so that he could not draw it back to himself
13:5 The altar also was torn down and the ashes poured out from the altar according to the sign whichthat the man of God had given by the word of the Lord
13:6 AndThe the king said to the man of God Entreat now the favor of the Lord your God and pray for me so that my hand may be restored to me AndSo the man of God entreated the Lord; and the kings hand was restored to him and became as it was before
13:7 AndThen the king said to the man of God Come home with me and refreshdine yourself and I will give you a rewardgift
13:8 AndBut the man of God said to the king If you give me half your housekingdom I will not go in with you; Andnor I will notI eat breadfood or drink water in this place;
13:9 forFor sothus I was it commanded me by the word of the Lord: saying You shall neithernot eat breadfood noror drink water noror return by the way that you came
13:10 So he went another way and did not return by the way that he camehad come to Bethel
13:11 Now there dweltlived an old prophet in Bethel AndOne of his sons came and told him all that the man of God had done that day in Bethel; the words also whichthat he had spoken to the king they told to their father
13:12 AndTheir their father said to them Which way did he go And his sons showed him the way whichthat the man of God who came from Judah had gone
13:13 AndThen he said to his sons Saddle thea assdonkey for me So they saddled thea assdonkey for him and he mounted it
13:14 AndHe he went after the man of God and found him sitting under an oak; andtree heHe said to him Are you the man of God who came from Judah AndHe heanswered said I am
13:15 Then he said to him Come home with me and eat breadsome food
13:16 AndBut he said I maycannot not return with you or go in with you; neithernor will I eat breadfood noror drink water with you in this place;
13:17 for it was said to me by the word of the Lord: You shall neithernot eat breadfood noror drink water there noror return by the way that you came
13:18 AndThen hethe other said to him I also am a prophet as you are and an angel spoke to me by the word of the Lord: saying Bring him back with you into your house so that he may eat breadfood and drink water But he liedwas todeceiving him
13:19 SoThen hethe man of God went back with him and ate breadfood and drank water in his house and drank water
13:20 AndAs as they satwere sitting at the table the word of the Lord came to the prophet who had brought him back;
13:21 and he criedproclaimed to the man of God who came from Judah Thus says the Lord: Because you have disobeyed the word of the Lord and have not kept the commandment whichthat the Lord your God commanded you
13:22 but have come back and have eaten breadfood and drunk water in the place of which he said to you Eat no breadfood and drink no water; your body shall not come to theyour ancestral tomb of your fathers
13:23 AndAfter afterthe heman of God had eaten breadfood and had drunk hethey saddled thefor asshim fora donkey belonging to the prophet whomwho he had brought him back
13:24 AndThen as he went away a lion met him on the road and killed him AndHis his body was thrown in the road and the assdonkey stood beside it; the lion also stood beside the body
13:25 AndPeople behold men passed by and saw the body thrown in the road andwith the lion standing by the body And they came and told it in the citytown where the old prophet dweltlived
13:26 AndWhen when the prophet who had brought him back from the way heard of it he said It is the man of God who disobeyed the word of the Lord; therefore the Lord has given him to the lion which has torn him and slainkilled him according to the word whichthat the Lord spoke to him
13:27 AndThen he said to his sons Saddle thea assdonkey for me AndSo they saddled itone
13:28 Andand he went and found histhe body thrown in the road andwith the assdonkey and the lion standing beside the body The lion had not eaten the body or tornattacked the assdonkey
13:29 AndThe the prophet took up the body of the man of God and laid it uponon the assdonkey and brought it back to the city to mourn and to bury him
13:30 AndHe he laid the body in his own grave; and they mourned over him saying Alas my brother
13:31 AndAfter after he had buried him he said to his sons When I die bury me in the grave in which the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones
13:32 For the saying whichthat he criedproclaimed by the word of the Lord against the altar in Bethel and against all the houses of the high places whichthat are in the cities of Samar′iaSamaria shall surely come to pass
13:33 AfterEven after this thingevent Jerobo′amJeroboam did not turn from his evil way but made priests for the high places again from among all the people; any who wouldwanted he consecrated to be priests ofhe consecrated for the high places
13:34 AndThis thismatter thing became sin to the house of Jerobo′amJeroboam so as to cut it off and to destroy it from the face of the earth
14:1 At that time Abi′jahAbijah the son of Jerobo′amJeroboam fell sick
14:2 AndJeroboam Jerobo′am said to his wife AriseGo and disguise yourself so that it bewill not be known that you are the wife of Jerobo′amJeroboam and go to Shiloh; beholdfor Ahi′jah the prophet Ahijah is there who said of me that I should be king over this people
14:4 Jerobo′amsJeroboams wife did so; she aroseset out and went to Shiloh and came to the house of Ahi′jahAhijah Now Ahi′jahAhijah could not see for his eyes were dim because of his age
14:5 AndBut the Lord said to Ahi′jahAhijah BeholdThe the wife of Jerobo′amJeroboam is coming to inquire of you concerning her son; for he is sick Thus and thus you shall you say to her When she came she pretended to be another woman
14:6 But when Ahi′jahAhijah heard the sound of her feet as she came in at the door he said Come in wife of Jerobo′amJeroboam; why do you pretend to be another For I am charged with heavy tidings for you
14:7 Go tell Jerobo′amJeroboam Thus says the Lord the God of Israel: Because I exalted you from among the people and made you leader over my people Israel
14:8 and tore the kingdom away from the house of David andto gavegive it to you; and yet you have not been like my servant David who kept my commandments and followed me with all his heart doing only that which was right in my eyessight
14:9 but you have done evil above all thatthose who were before you and have gone and made for yourself other gods and moltencast images provoking me to anger and have castthrust me behind your back;
14:10 therefore behold I will bring evil upon the house of Jerobo′amJeroboam andI will cut off from Jerobo′amJeroboam every male both bond and free in Israel and will utterly consume the house of Jerobo′amJeroboam just as aone man burns up dung until it is all gone
14:11 AnyAnyone one belonging to Jerobo′amJeroboam who dies in the city the dogs shall eat; and anyanyone one who dies in the open country the birds of the air shall eat; for the Lord has spoken it
14:12 AriseTherefore thereforeset out go to your house When your feet enter the city the child shall die
14:13 AndAll all Israel shall mourn for him and bury him; for he onlyalone of Jerobo′amJeroboams family shall come to the grave because in him there is found something pleasing to the Lord the God of Israel in the house of Jerobo′amJeroboam
14:14 Moreover the Lord will raise up for himself a king over Israel who shall cut off the house of Jerobo′amJeroboam today Andeven henceforthright now
14:15 theThe Lord will smitestrike Israel as a reed is shaken in the water; andhe will root up Israel out of this good land whichthat he gave to their fathersancestors and scatter them beyond the Euphra′tesEuphrates because they have made their Ashe′rimsacred poles provoking the Lord to anger
14:16 AndHe he will give Israel up because of the sins of Jerobo′amJeroboam which he sinned and which he madecaused Israel to sincommit
14:17 Then Jerobo′amsJeroboams wife arosegot up and departedwent away and she came to Tirzah AndAs as she came to the threshold of the house the child died
14:18 AndAll all Israel buried him and mourned for him according to the word of the Lord which he spoke by his servant Ahi′jah the prophet Ahijah
14:19 Now the rest of the acts of Jerobo′amJeroboam how he warred and how he reigned behold they are written in the Book of the ChroniclesAnnals of the Kings of Israel
14:20 AndThe the time that Jerobo′amJeroboam reigned was twenty two years; andthen he slept with his fathersancestors and Nadab his son reignedNadab insucceeded his steadhim
14:21 Now Rehobo′amRehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah Rehobo′amRehoboam was forty one years old when he began to reign and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem the city whichthat the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel to put his name there His mothers name was Na′amahNaamah the AmmonitessAmmonite
14:22 And Judah did what was evil in the sight of the Lord; and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins whichthat they committed more than all that their fathersancestors had done
14:23 For they also built for themselves high places and pillars and Ashe′rimsacred poles on every high hill and under every green tree;
14:24 and there were also male culttemple prostitutes in the land They didcommitted according to all the abominations of the nations whichthat the Lord drove out before the people of Israel
14:25 In the fifth year of King Rehobo′amRehoboam King Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem;
14:26 he took away the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the kings house; he took away everything He also took away all the shields of gold whichthat Solomon had made;
14:27 andso King Rehobo′amRehoboam made in their stead shields of bronze instead and committed them to the hands of the officers of the guard who kept the door of the kings house
14:28 AndAs as often as the king went into the house of the Lord the guard borecarried them and brought them back to the guardroom
14:29 Now the rest of the acts of Rehobo′amRehoboam and all that he did are they not written in the Book of the ChroniclesAnnals of the Kings of Judah
14:30 AndThere there was war between Rehobo′amRehoboam and Jerobo′amJeroboam continually
14:31 AndRehoboam Rehobo′am slept with his fathersancestors and was buried with his fathersancestors in the city of David His mothers name was Na′amahNaamah the AmmonitessAmmonite AndHis Abi′jam his son reignedAbijam insucceeded his steadhim
15:1 Now in the eighteenth year of King Jerobo′amJeroboam the son of Nebat Abi′jamAbijam began to reign over Judah
15:2 He reigned for three years in Jerusalem His mothers name was Ma′acahMaacah the daughter of Abish′alomAbishalom
15:3 AndHe hecommitted walked in all the sins whichthat his father did before him; and his heart was not wholly true to the Lord his God aslike the heart of David his father David
15:5 because David did what was right in the eyessight of the Lord and did not turn aside from anything that he commanded him all the days of his life except in the matter of Uri′ahUriah the Hittite
15:6 NowThe therewar wasbegun war between Rehobo′amRehoboam and Jerobo′amJeroboam continued all the days of his life
15:7 The rest of the acts of Abi′jamAbijam and all that he did are they not written in the Book of the ChroniclesAnnals of the Kings of Judah AndThere there was war between Abi′jamAbijam and Jerobo′amJeroboam
15:8 AndAbijam Abi′jam slept with his fathers;ancestors and they buried him in the city of David AndThen Asa his son reignedAsa insucceeded his steadhim
15:9 In the twentieth year of Jerobo′amKing kingJeroboam of Israel Asa began to reign over Judah;
15:10 and he reigned forty one years in Jerusalem His mothers name was Ma′acahMaacah the daughter of Abish′alomAbishalom
15:11 And Asa did what was right in the eyessight of the Lord as David his father David had done
15:12 He put away the male culttemple prostitutes out of the land and removed all the idols that his fathersancestors had made
15:13 He also removed Ma′acah his mother Maacah from being queen mother because she had made an abominable image made for Ashe′rahAsherah; and Asa cut down her image and burned it at the brookWadi Kidron
15:14 But the high places were not taken away Nevertheless the heart of Asa was wholly true to the Lord all his days
15:15 AndHe he brought into the house of the Lord the votive gifts of his father and his own votive gifts —silver and gold and vesselsutensils
15:16 AndThere there was war between Asa and Ba′ashaKing kingBaasha of Israel all their days
15:17 Ba′ashaKing kingBaasha of Israel went up against Judah and built Ramah thatto heprevent mightanyone permitfrom nogoing one to go out or comecoming in to King Asa king of Judah
15:18 Then Asa took all the silver and the gold that were left in the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the kings house and gave them into the hands of his servants; and King Asa sent them to King Ben ha′dadhadad the son of Tabrim′monTabrimmon the son of Hezi′onHezion king of SyriaAram who dweltresided in Damascus saying
15:19 Let there be aan leaguealliance between me and you aslike that between my father and your father: behold I am sending to you a present of silver and gold; go break your leaguealliance with Ba′ashaKing kingBaasha of Israel so that he may withdraw from me
15:20 And Ben ha′dadhadad hearkenedlistened to King Asa and sent the commanders of his armies against the cities of Israel andHe conquered Ijon Dan A′belAbel beth ma′acahmaacah and all Chin′nerothChinneroth with all the land of Naph′taliNaphtali
15:21 AndWhen whenBaasha Ba′asha heard of it he stopped building Ramah and helived dwelt in Tirzah
15:22 Then King Asa made a proclamation to all Judah none was exempt: and they carried away the stones of Ramah and its timber with which Ba′ashaBaasha had been building; and with them King Asa built Geba of Benjamin and Mizpah
15:23 Now the rest of all the acts of Asa all his mightpower and all that he did and the cities whichthat he built are they not written in the Book of the ChroniclesAnnals of the Kings of Judah But in his old age he was diseased in his feet
15:24 AndThen Asa slept with his fathersancestors and was buried with his fathersancestors in the city of David his father David; and Jehosh′aphat his son reignedJehoshaphat insucceeded his steadhim
15:25 Nadab the son of Jerobo′amJeroboam began to reign over Israel in the second year of King Asa king of Judah; and he reigned over Israel two years

15:27 Ba′ashaBaasha the son of Ahi′jahAhijah of the house of Is′sacharIssachar conspired against him; and Ba′ashaBaasha struck him down at Gib′bethonGibbethon which belonged to the Philistines; for Nadab and all Israel were laying siege to Gib′bethonGibbethon
15:28 So Ba′ashaBaasha killed himNadab in the third year of King Asa king of Judah and reignedsucceeded inhim his stead
15:29 AndAs as soon as he was king he killed all the house of Jerobo′amJeroboam; he left to the house of Jerobo′amJeroboam not one that breathed until he had destroyed it according to the word of the Lord whichthat he spoke by his servant Ahi′jahAhijah the Shi′lonite;Shilonite—
15:30 itbecause wasof for the sins of Jerobo′amJeroboam whichthat he sinnedcommitted and whichthat he madecaused Israel to sincommit and because of the anger to which he provoked the Lord the God of Israel
15:31 Now the rest of the acts of Nadab and all that he did are they not written in the Book of the ChroniclesAnnals of the Kings of Israel
15:32 AndThere there was war between Asa and Ba′ashaKing kingBaasha of Israel all their days
15:33 In the third year of King Asa king of Judah Ba′ashaBaasha the son of Ahi′jahAhijah began to reign over all Israel at Tirzah; and he reigned twenty four years
15:34 He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord andwalking walked in the way of Jerobo′amJeroboam and in histhe sin whichthat he madecaused Israel to sincommit
16:1 AndThe the word of the Lord came to Jehu the son of Hana′niHanani against Ba′ashaBaasha saying
16:2 Since I exalted you out of the dust and made you leader over my people Israel and you have walked in the way of Jerobo′amJeroboam and have madecaused my people Israel to sin provoking me to anger with their sins
16:3 beholdtherefore I will utterlyconsume sweepBaasha away Ba′asha and his house and I will make your house like the house of Jerobo′amJeroboam the son of Nebat
16:4 AnyAnyone one belonging to Ba′ashaBaasha who dies in the city the dogs shall eat; and anyanyone one of his who dies in the field the birds of the air shall eat
16:5 Now the rest of the acts of Ba′ashaBaasha and what he did and his mightpower are they not written in the Book of the ChroniclesAnnals of the Kings of Israel
16:6 AndBaasha Ba′asha slept with his fathersancestors and was buried at Tirzah; and Elah his son reignedElah insucceeded hishim stead
16:7 Moreover the word of the Lord came by the prophet Jehu the son of Hana′niHanani against Ba′ashaBaasha and his house both because of all the evil that he did in the sight of the Lord provoking him to anger with the work of his hands in being like the house of Jerobo′amJeroboam and also because he destroyed it
16:8 In the twenty sixth year of King Asa king of Judah Elah the son of Ba′ashaBaasha began to reign over Israel in Tirzah; and he reigned two years

16:12 Thus Zimri destroyed all the house of Ba′ashaBaasha according to the word of the Lord which he spoke against Ba′ashaBaasha by Jehu the prophet Jehu—
16:13 forbecause of all the sins of Ba′ashaBaasha and the sins of Elah his son whichElah that they sinnedcommitted and whichthat they madecaused Israel to sincommit provoking the Lord God of Israel to anger with their idols

16:20 Now the rest of the acts of Zimri and the conspiracy whichthat he made are they not written in the Book of the ChroniclesAnnals of the Kings of Israel
16:21 Then the people of Israel were divided into two parts; half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath to make him king and half followed Omri
16:22 But the people who followed Omri overcame the people who followed Tibni the son of Ginath; so Tibni died and Omri became king
16:23 In the thirty first year of King Asa king of Judah Omri began to reign over Israel; and he reigned for twelve years; six yearsof hethem reigned in Tirzah
16:24 He bought the hill of Samar′iaSamaria from Shemer for two talents of silver; and he fortified the hill and called the name of the city whichthat he built Samar′iaSamaria after the name of Shemer the owner of the hill
16:25 Omri did what was evil in the sight of the Lord; andhe did more evil than all who were before him
16:26 For he walked in all the way of Jerobo′amJeroboam the son of Nebat and in the sins whichthat he madecaused Israel to sincommit provoking the Lord the God of Israel to anger by their idols
16:27 Now the rest of the acts of Omri whichthat he did and the mightpower that he showed are they not written in the Book of the ChroniclesAnnals of the Kings of Israel

16:29 In the thirty eighth year of King Asa king of Judah Ahab the son of Omri began to reign over Israel; and Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samar′iaSamaria twenty two years
16:30 And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord more than all thatwho were before him
16:31 And as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jerobo′amJeroboam the son of Nebat he took foras his wife Jez′ebelJezebel the daughter of Ethba′alKing kingEthbaal of the Sido′niansSidonians and went and served Ba′alBaal and worshiped him
16:32 He erected an altar for Ba′alBaal in the house of Ba′alBaal which he built in Samar′iaSamaria
16:33 And Ahab also made ana Ashe′rahsacred pole Ahab did more to provoke the anger of the Lord the God of Israel tothan angerhad than all the kings of Israel who were before him
16:34 In his days Hi′elHiel of Bethel built Jericho; he laid its foundation at the cost of Abi′ramAbiram his firstfirstborn born and set up its gates at the cost of his youngest son Segub according to the word of the Lord which he spoke by Joshua the son of Nun
17:1 Now Eli′jahElijah the Tishbite of Tishbe in Gilead said to Ahab As the Lord the God of Israel lives before whom I stand there shall be neither dew nor rain these years except by my word
17:2 AndThe the word of the Lord came to him saying
17:3 DepartGo from here and turn eastward and hide yourself by the brookWadi Cherith thatwhich is east of the Jordan
17:4 You shall drink from the brookwadi and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there
17:5 So he went and did according to the word of the Lord; he went and dweltlived by the brookWadi Cherith thatwhich is east of the Jordan
17:6 AndThe the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brookwadi
17:7 AndBut after a while the brookwadi dried up because there was no rain in the land
17:8 Then the word of the Lord came to him saying
17:9 AriseGo gonow to Zar′ephathZarephath which belongs to Sidon and dwelllive there; Beholdfor I have commanded a widow there to feed you
17:10 So he aroseset out and went to Zar′ephath;Zarephath andWhen when he came to the gate of the citytown behold a widow was there gathering sticks; and he called to her and said Bring me a little water in a vessel so that I may drink
17:11 AndAs as she was going to bring it he called to her and said Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand
17:12 AndBut she said As the Lord your God lives I have nothing baked only a handful of meal in a jar and a little oil in a crusejug; and now I am now gathering a couple of sticks so that I may go inhome and prepare it for myself and my son that we may eat it and die
17:13 AndElijah Eli′jah said to her FearDo not be afraid; go and do as you have said; but first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me and afterwardafterwards make something for yourself and your son
17:14 For thus says the Lord the God of Israel: The jar of meal shallwill not be spentemptied and the crusejug of oil shallwill not fail until the day that the Lord sends rain uponon the earth
17:15 AndShe she went and did as Eli′jahElijah said; andso that she andas well as he and her household ate for many days
17:16 The jar of meal was not spentemptied neither did the crusejug of oil fail according to the word of the Lord whichthat he spoke by Eli′jahElijah
17:17 After this the son of the woman the mistress of the house became ill; and his illness was so severe that there was no breath left in him
17:18 AndShe shethen said to Eli′jahElijah What have you against me O man of God You have come to me to bring my sin to remembrance and to cause the death of my son
17:19 AndBut he said to her Give me your son AndHe he took him from her bosom and carried him up into the upper chamber where he lodgedwas lodging and laid him uponon his own bed
17:20 AndHe he cried out to the Lord O Lord my God hasthave thouyou brought calamity even upon the widow with whom I sojournam staying by slayingkilling her son
17:21 Then he stretched himself upon the child three times and cried out to the Lord O Lord my God let this childs soullife come into him again
17:22 AndThe the Lord hearkenedlistened to the voice of Eli′jahElijah; and the soullife of the child came into him again and he revived
17:23 AndElijah Eli′jah took the child and brought him down from the upper chamber into the house and deliveredgave him to his mother; andthen Eli′jahElijah said See your son livesis alive
17:24 AndSo the woman said to Eli′jahElijah Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is truth
18:1 After many days the word of the Lord came to Eli′jahElijah in the third year of the drought saying Go showpresent yourself to Ahab; and I will send rain uponon the earth
18:2 So Eli′jahElijah went to showpresent himself to Ahab NowThe the famine was severe in Samar′iaSamaria
18:3 And Ahab calledsummoned Obadi′ahObadiah who was overin charge of the householdpalace Now Obadi′ahObadiah revered the Lord greatly;
18:4 and when Jez′ebelJezebel cutwas killing off the prophets of the Lord Obadi′ahObadiah took a hundred prophets and hid them byfifty fiftiesto in a cave and fedprovided them with bread and water
18:5 AndThen Ahab said to Obadi′ahObadiah Go through the land to all the springs of water and to all the valleyswadis; perhaps we may find grass andto savekeep the horses and mules alive and not lose some of the animals
18:6 So they divided the land between them to pass through it; Ahab went in one direction by himself and Obadi′ahObadiah went in another direction by himself
18:7 AndAs asObadiah Obadi′ah was on the way beholdElijah Eli′jah met him; andObadiah Obadi′ah recognized him and fell on his face and said Is it you my lord Eli′jahElijah
18:8 AndHe he answered him It is I Go tell your lord Beholdthat Eli′jahElijah is here
18:9 And he said WhereinHow have I sinned that you would givehand your servant intoover theto hand of Ahab to kill me
18:10 As the Lord your God lives there is no nation or kingdom whitherto which my lord has not sent to seek you; and when they would say He is not here he would takerequire an oath of the kingdom or nation that they had not found you
18:11 AndBut now you say Go tell your lord Beholdthat Eli′jahElijah is here
18:12 AndAs as soon as I have gone from you the Spiritspirit of the Lord will carry you whither I know not where; and so when I come and tell Ahab and he cannot find you he will kill me although I your servant have revered the Lord from my youth
18:13 Has it not been told my lord what I did when Jez′ebelJezebel killed the prophets of the Lord how I hid a hundred men of the Lords prophets byfifty fiftiesto in a cave and fedprovided them with bread and water
18:14 AndYet now you say Go tell your lord Beholdthat Eli′jahElijah is here; and he will surely kill me
18:15 AndElijah Eli′jah said As the Lord of hosts lives before whom I stand I will surely show myself to him today
18:16 So Obadi′ahObadiah went to meet Ahab and told him; and Ahab went to meet Eli′jahElijah
18:17 When Ahab saw Eli′jahElijah Ahab said to him Is it you you troubler of Israel
18:18 AndHe he answered I have not troubled Israel; but you have and your fathers house because you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord and followed the Ba′alsBaals
18:19 Now therefore sendhave and gather all Israel toassemble for me at Mount Carmel andwith the four hundred and fifty prophets of Ba′alBaal and the four hundred prophets of Ashe′rahAsherah who eat at Jez′ebelsJezebels table
18:20 So Ahab sent to all the peopleIsraelites of Israel and gatheredassembled the prophets together at Mount Carmel
18:21 AndElijah Eli′jahthen came near to all the people and said How long will you go limping with two different opinions If the Lord is God follow him; but if Ba′alBaal then follow him AndThe the people did not answer him a word
18:22 Then Eli′jahElijah said to the people I even I only am left a prophet of the Lord; but Ba′alsBaals prophets arenumber four hundred and fifty men
18:23 Let two bulls be given to us; and let them choose one bull for themselves and cut it in pieces and lay it on the wood but put no fire to it; and I will prepare the other bull and lay it on the wood andbut put no fire to it
18:24 AndThen you call on the name of your god and I will call on the name of the Lord; and the Godgod who answers by fire he is indeed God AndAll all the people answered ItWell is well spoken
18:25 Then Eli′jahElijah said to the prophets of Ba′alBaal Choose for yourselves one bull and prepare it first for you are many; andthen call on the name of your god but put no fire to it
18:26 AndSo they took the bull whichthat was given them and they prepared it and called on the name of Ba′alBaal from morning until noon sayingcrying O Ba′alBaal answer us But there was no voice and no oneanswer answeredThey And they limped about the altar whichthat they had made
18:27 AndAt at noon Eli′jahElijah mocked them saying Cry aloud forSurely he is a god; either he is musingmeditating or he has gonewandered asideaway or he is on a journey or perhaps he is asleep and must be awakened
18:28 AndThen they cried aloud and cutas themselveswas after their custom they cut themselves with swords and lances until the blood gushed out uponover them
18:29 AndAs as midday passed they raved on until the time of the offering of the oblation but there was no voice; no oneanswer answeredand no one heededresponse
18:30 Then Eli′jahElijah said to all the people Come nearcloser to me; and all the people came nearcloser to him AndFirst he repaired the altar of the Lord that had been thrown down;
18:31 Eli′jahElijah took twelve stones according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob to whom the word of the Lord came saying Israel shall be your name;
18:32 and with the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord AndThen he made a trench aboutaround the altar aslarge greatenough asto would contain two measures of seed
18:33 AndNext he put the wood in order and cut the bull in pieces and laid it on the wood AndHe he said Fill four jars with water and pour it on the burnt offering and on the wood
18:34 AndThen he said Do it a second time; and they did it a second time AndAgain he said Do it a third time; and they did it a third time
18:35 Andso that the water ran roundall aboutaround the altar and filled the trench also with water
18:36 AndAt at the time of the offering of the oblation Eli′jah the prophet Elijah came near and said O Lord God of Abraham Isaac and Israel let it be known this day that thouyou artare God in Israel and that I am thyyour servant and that I have done all these things at thyyour wordbidding
18:37 Answer me O Lord answer me so that this people may know that thouyou O Lord artare God and that thouyou hasthave turned their hearts back
18:38 Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust and even licked up the water that was in the trench
18:39 AndWhen when all the people saw it they fell on their faces; and they said The Lord heindeed is God; the Lord heindeed is God
18:40 AndElijah Eli′jah said to them Seize the prophets of Ba′alBaal; letdo not let one of them escape AndThen they seized them; and Eli′jahElijah brought them down to the brookWadi Kishon and killed them there
18:41 AndElijah Eli′jah said to Ahab Go up eat and drink; for there is a sound of the rushing of rain
18:42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink AndElijah Eli′jah went up to the top of Carmel; andthere he bowed himself down upon the earth and put his face between his knees
18:43 AndHe he said to his servant Go up now look toward the sea AndHe he went up and looked and said There is nothing AndThen he said Go again seven times
18:44 AndAt at the seventh time he said BeholdLook a little cloud likeno bigger than a manspersons hand is rising out of the sea AndThen he said Go up say to Ahab PrepareHarness your chariot and go down lestbefore the rain stopstops you
18:45 AndIn in a little while the heavens grew black with clouds and wind; and there was a greatheavy rain And Ahab rode off and went to Jezreel
18:46 AndBut the hand of the Lord was on Eli′jahElijah; and he girded up his loins and ran beforein front of Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel
19:1 Ahab told Jez′ebelJezebel all that Eli′jahElijah had done and how he had slainkilled all the prophets with the sword
19:2 Then Jez′ebelJezebel sent a messenger to Eli′jahElijah saying So may the gods do to me and more also if I do not make your life aslike the life of one of them by this time tomorrow
19:3 Then he was afraid; and he arosegot up and wentfled for his life and came to Beer sheba which belongs to Judah; andhe left his servant there
19:4 But he himself went a days journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a solitary broom tree; andHe he asked that he might die: saying It is enough; now O Lord take away my life; for I am no better than my fathersancestors
19:5 AndThen he lay down and slept under athe broom tree; and beholdfell asleep Suddenly an angel touched him and said to him AriseGet up and eat
19:6 AndHe he looked and behold there was at his head was a cake baked on hot stones and a jar of water AndHe he ate and drank and lay down again
19:7 AndThe the angel of the Lord came again a second time and touched him and said AriseGet up and eat elseotherwise the journey will be too greatmuch for you
19:8 AndHe hegot aroseup and ate and drank; andthen he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb the mount of God
19:9 AndAt therethat place he came to a cave and lodgedspent the night there; andThen behold the word of the Lord came to him andsaying he said to him What are you doing here Eli′jahElijah
19:10 He saidanswered I have been very jealouszealous for the Lord the God of hosts; for the peopleIsraelites of Israel have forsaken thyyour covenant thrown down thyyour altars and slainkilled thyyour prophets with the sword; and I evenalone I only am left; and they seekare seeking my life to take it away
19:11 AndHe he said Go forthout and stand uponon the mountmountain before the Lord Andfor behold the Lord passedis about to pass by andNow there was a great andwind so strong windthat rentit thewas splitting mountains and brokebreaking rocks in pieces the rocks before the Lord but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake but the Lord was not in the earthquake;
19:12 and after the earthquake a fire but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a stillsound smallof voicesheer silence
19:13 AndWhen whenElijah Eli′jah heard it he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave AndThen behold there came a voice to him andthat said What are you doing here Eli′jahElijah
19:14 He saidanswered I have been very jealouszealous for the Lord the God of hosts; for the peopleIsraelites of Israel have forsaken thyyour covenant thrown down thyyour altars and slainkilled thyyour prophets with the sword; and I evenalone I only am left; and they seekare seeking my life to take it away
19:15 AndThen the Lord said to him Go return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus; and when you arrive you shall anoint Haz′aelHazael toas be king over Syria;Aram
19:16 andAlso you shall anoint Jehu the son of Nimshi youas shall anoint to be king over Israel; and Eli′shayou theshall anoint Elisha son of Shaphat of A′belAbel meho′lahmeholah youas shall anoint to be prophet in your place
19:17 AndWhoever him who escapes from the sword of Haz′aelHazael Jehu shall Jehu slaykill; and himwhoever who escapes from the sword of Jehu Elisha shall Eli′shakill slay
19:18 Yet I will leave seven thousand in Israel all the knees that have not bowed to Ba′alBaal and every mouth that has not kissed him
19:19 So he departedset out from there and found Eli′shaElisha the son of Shaphat who was plowing withThere were twelve yoke of oxen beforeahead of him and he was with the twelfth Eli′jahElijah passed by him and castthrew his mantle uponover him
19:20 AndHe he left the oxen and ran after Eli′jahElijah and said Let me kiss my father and my mother and then I will follow you AndThen heElijah said to him Go back again; for what have I done to you
19:21 AndHe he returned from following him and took the yoke of oxen and slewslaughtered them; andusing boiledthe theirequipment fleshfrom with the yokesoxen ofhe theboiled oxentheir flesh and gave it to the people and they ate Then he aroseset out and wentfollowed afterElijah Eli′jah and ministeredbecame tohis himservant

20:4 AndThe the king of Israel answered As you say my lord O king I am yours and all that I have
20:5 The messengers came again and said: Thus says Ben ha′dadhadad: I sent to you saying Deliver to me your silver and your gold your wives and your children;
20:7 Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land and said MarkLook now andSee see how this man is seeking trouble; for he sent to me for my wives and my children and for my silver and my gold; and I did not refuse him
20:8 AndThen all the elders and all the people said to him Do not heedlisten or consent
20:9 So he said to the messengers of Ben ha′dadhadad Tell my lord the king: All that you first demanded of your servant I will do; but this thing I cannot do AndThe the messengers departedleft and brought him word again
20:10 Ben ha′dadhadad sent to him and said The gods do so to me and more also if the dust of Samar′iaSamaria shallwill sufficeprovide fora handfulshandful for alleach of the people who follow me
20:11 AndThe the king of Israel answered Tell him: LetOne notwho himputs that girds on his armor boastshould himselfnot asbrag helike thatone putswho takes it off
20:12 When Ben ha′dadhadad heard this message—now as he washad been drinking with the kings in the booths —he said to his men Take your positions And they took their positions against the city

20:17 The servantsyoung ofmen thewho governorsserve of the districtsdistrict governors went out first And Ben ha′dadhadad had sent out scouts and they reported to him Men arehave comingcome out from Samar′iaSamaria
20:18 He said If they have come out for peace take them alive; or if they have come out for war take them alive
20:19 SoBut these wenthad already come out of the city: the servantsyoung ofmen thewho governorsserve of the districtsdistrict governors and the army whichthat followed them
20:20 AndEach each killed his man; the SyriansArameans fled and Israel pursued them but King Ben ha′dadhadad king of SyriaAram escaped on a horse with horsementhe cavalry

20:23 AndThe the servants of the king of SyriaAram said to him Their gods are gods of the hills and so they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain and surely we shall be stronger than they
20:24 AndAlso do this: remove the kings each from his post and put commanders in theirplace placesof them;
20:25 and muster an army like the army that you have lost horse for horse and chariot for chariot; then we will fight against them in the plain and surely we shall be stronger than they AndHe heheeded hearkened to their voice and did so
20:26 In the spring Ben ha′dadhadad mustered the SyriansArameans and went up to Aphek to fight against Israel
20:27 AndAfter the peopleIsraelites ofhad Israelbeen were mustered and were provisioned andthey went againstout to engage them; the people of Israel encamped beforeopposite them like two little flocks of goats butwhile the SyriansArameans filled the country
20:28 AndA a man of God cameapproached near and said to the king of Israel Thus says the Lord: Because the SyriansArameans have said The Lord is a god of the hills but he is not a god of the valleys therefore I will give all this great multitude into your hand and you shall know that I am the Lord
20:29 AndThey they encamped opposite one another seven days Then on the seventh day the battle was joinedbegan; and the peopleIsraelites ofkilled Israelone smote of the Syrians a hundred thousand Aramean foot soldiers in one day

20:33 Now the men were watching for an omen; and they quickly took it up from him and said Yes Ben hadad is your brother Ben ha′dad Then he said Go and bring him ThenSo Ben ha′dadhadad came forthout to him; and he causedhad him to come up into the chariot
20:34 And Ben ha′dadhadad said to him TheI citieswill whichrestore the towns that my father took from your father I will restore; and you may establish bazaars for yourself in Damascus as my father did in Samar′iaSamaria AndThe Ahabking saidof Israel responded I will let you go on thesethose terms So he made a covenanttreaty with him and let him go
20:35 AndAt the command of the Lord a certain manmember of thea sonscompany of the prophets said to hisanother fellow at the command of the Lord Strike me I pray But the man refused to strike him
20:36 Then he said to him Because you have not obeyed the voice of the Lord behold as soon as you have goneleft from me a lion shallwill kill you And aswhen soon as he had departedleft from him a lion met him and killed him
20:37 Then he found another man and said Strike me ISo pray And the man struckhit him smitingstriking and wounding him
20:38 SoThen the prophet departed and waited for the king byalong the wayroad disguising himself with a bandage over his eyes
20:39 AndAs as the king passed by he cried to the king and said Your servant went out into the midstthick of the battle; andthen behold a soldier turned and brought a man to me and said KeepGuard this man; if by any means he beis missing your life shall be given for his life or else you shall pay a talent of silver

20:41 Then he madequickly hastetook to take the bandage away from his eyes; andThe the king of Israel recognized him as one of the prophets
20:42 AndThen he said to him Thus says the Lord Because you have let go out of your hand the man go whom I had devoted to destruction therefore your life shall gobe for his life and your people for his people

21:3 But Naboth said to Ahab The Lord forbid that I should give you themy ancestral inheritance of my fathers
21:4 And Ahab went intohome hisresentful house vexed and sullen because of what Naboth the Jezreelite had said to him; for he had said I will not give you the inheritance of my fathersancestral Andinheritance heHe lay down on his bed and turned away his face and would not eat no food
21:5 ButHis Jez′ebelwife hisJezebel wife came to him and said to him Why isare youryou spirit so vexeddepressed that you eatwill nonot foodeat
21:6 AndHe he said to her Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite and said to him Give me your vineyard for money; or else if ityou pleaseprefer you I will give you another vineyard for it; andbut he answered I will not give you my vineyard
21:7 AndHis Jez′ebelwife hisJezebel wife said to him Do you now govern Israel AriseGet andup eat breadsome food and let your heart be cheerful; I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite
21:8 So she wrote letters in Ahabs name and sealed them with his seal; and she sent the letters to the elders and the nobles who dweltlived with Naboth in his city
21:9 AndShe she wrote in the letters Proclaim a fast and setseat Naboth onat highthe amonghead of the peopleassembly;
21:10 andseat set two basescoundrels fellows opposite him and lethave them bring a charge against him saying You have cursed God and the king Then take him out and stone him to death

21:13 AndThe the two basescoundrels fellows came in and sat opposite him; and the basescoundrels fellows brought a charge against Naboth in the presence of the people saying Naboth cursed God and the king So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death with stones
21:14 Then they sent to Jez′ebelJezebel saying Naboth has been stoned; he is dead
