| 1:2 |
AndHe he said, The Lord roars from Zion, And from Jerusalem He utters His voice; And the shepherds pasture grounds mourn, And the summit of Carmel dries up. |
| 1:4 |
So I will send fire upon the house of Hazael, And it will consume the citadels of Ben hadad. |
| 1:7 |
So I will send fire upon the wall of Gaza, And it will consume her citadels. |
| 1:10 |
So I will send fire upon the wall of Tyre, And it will consume her citadels. |
| 1:12 |
So I will send fire upon Teman, And it will consume the citadels of Bozrah. |
| 1:14 |
So I will kindle a fire on the wall of Rabbah, And it will consume her citadels Amid war cries on the day of battle, And a storm on the day of tempest. |
| 2:2 |
So I will send fire upon Moab, And it will consume the citadels of Kerioth; And Moab will die amid tumult, With war cries and the sound of a trumpet. |
| 2:3 |
I will also cut off the judge from her midst, And slay all her princes with him, says the Lord. |
| 2:5 |
So I will send fire upon Judah, And it will consume the citadels of Jerusalem. |
| 2:8 |
AndOn on garments taken as pledges they stretch out beside every altar, And in the house of their God they drink the wine of those who have been fined. |
| 2:10 |
AndIt it was I who brought you up from the land of Egypt, And I led you in the wilderness forty years That you might take possession of the land of the Amorite. |
| 3:1 |
Hear this word which the Lord has spoken against you, sons of Israel, against the entire family which He brought up from the land of Egypt,: |
| 3:2 |
You only have I chosen among all the families of the earth; Therefore, I will punish you for all your iniquities. |
| 3:12 |
Thus says the Lord, Just as the shepherd snatches from the lions mouth a couple of legs or a piece of an ear, So will the sons of Israel dwelling in Samaria be snatched away— With the corner of a bed and the cover of a couch! |
| 3:14 |
For on the day that I punish Israels transgressions, I will also punish the altars of Bethel; The horns of the altar will be cut off, And they will fall to the ground. |
| 4:7 |
And furthermoreFurthermore, I withheld the rain from you While there were still three months until harvest. Then I would send rain on one city And on another city I would not send rain; One part would be rained on, While the part not rained on would dry up. |
| 4:11 |
I overthrew you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, And you were like a firebrand snatched from a blaze; Yet you have not returned to Me, declares the Lord. |
| 4:12 |
Therefore, thus I will do to you, O Israel; Because I shallwill do this to you, Prepare to meet your God, O Israel. |
| 5:1 |
Hear this word which I take up for you as a dirge, O house of Israel.: |
| 5:2 |
She has fallen, she will not rise again— The virgin Israel. She lies neglected on her land; There is none to raise her up. |
| 5:5 |
But do not resort to Bethel, And do not come to Gilgal, Nor cross over to Beersheba; For Gilgal will certainly go into captivity, And Bethel will come to trouble. |
| 5:6 |
Seek the Lord that you may live, LestOr He will break forth like a fire, O house of Joseph, And it will consume with none to quench it for Bethel, |
| 5:11 |
Therefore, because you impose heavy rent on the poor And exact a tribute of grain from them, Though you have built houses of well hewn stone, Yet you will not live in them; You have planted pleasant vineyards, yet you will not drink their wine. |
| 5:12 |
For I know your transgressions are many and your sins are great, You who distress the righteous and accept bribes, And turn aside the poor in the gate. |
| 5:13 |
Therefore, at such a time the prudent person keeps silent, for it is an evil time. |
| 5:16 |
Therefore, thus says the Lord God of hosts, the Lord, There is wailing in all the plazas, And in all the streets they say, Alas! Alas! They also call the farmer to mourning And professional mourners to lamentation. |
| 5:17 |
And in all the vineyards there is wailing, Because I shallwill pass through the midst of you, says the Lord. |
| 5:19 |
As when a man flees from a lion, And a bear meets him, Or goes home, leans his hand against the wall, And a snake bites him. |
| 6:1 |
Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, And to those who feel secure in the mountain of Samaria, The distinguished men of the foremost of nations, To whom the house of Israel comes. |
| 6:8 |
The Lord God has sworn by Himself, the Lord God of hosts has declared: I loathe the arrogance of Jacob, And I detest his citadels; Therefore, I will deliver up the city and all it contains. |
| 6:12 |
Do horses run on rocks? Or does one plow them with oxen? Yet you have turned justice into poison, And the fruit of righteousness into wormwood, |
| 7:7 |
Thus He showed me, and behold, the Lord was standing by a vertical wall, with a plumb line in His hand. |
| 7:8 |
AndThe the Lord said to me, What do you see, Amos? And I said, A plumb line. Then the Lord said, Behold I am about to put a plumb line In the midst of My people Israel. I will spare them no longer. |
| 7:9 |
The high places of Isaac will be desolated And the sanctuaries of Israel laid waste. Then shall I will rise up against the house of Jeroboam with the sword. |
| 7:10 |
Then Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, sent word to Jeroboam, king of Israel, saying, Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel; the land is unable to endure all his words. |
| 7:12 |
Then Amaziah said to Amos, Go, you seer, flee away to the land of Judah, and there eat bread and there do your prophesying! |
| 7:14 |
Then Amos answeredreplied and said to Amaziah, I am not a prophet, nor am I the son of a prophet; for I am a herdsman and a grower of sycamore figs. |
| 7:16 |
AndNow now hear the word of the Lord: you are saying, You shall not prophesy against Israel nor shall you speak against the house of Isaac. |
| 7:17 |
Therefore, thus says the Lord, Your wife will become a harlot in the city, your sons and your daughters will fall by the sword, your land will be parceled up by a measuring line, and you yourself will die upon unclean soil. Moreover, Israel will certainly go from its land into exile. |
| 8:2 |
And He said, What do you see, Amos? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then the Lord said to me, The end has come for My people Israel. I will spare them no longer. |
| 8:8 |
Because of this will not the land quake And everyone who dwells in it mourn? Indeed, all of it will rise up like the Nile, And it will be tossed about, And subside like the Nile of Egypt. |
| 8:9 |
AndIt it will come about in that day, declares the Lord God, That I shallwill make the sun go down at noon And make the earth dark in broad daylight. |
| 8:10 |
Then I shallwill turn your festivals into mourning And all your songs into lamentation; And I will bring sackcloth on everyones loins And baldness on every head. And I will make it like a time of mourning for an only son, And the end of it will be like a bitter day. |
| 8:12 |
AndPeople people will stagger from sea to sea, And from the north even to the east; They will go to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, But they will not find it. |
| 9:2 |
Though they dig into Sheol, From there shallwill My hand take them; And though they ascend to heaven, From there will I bring them down. |
| 9:3 |
AndThough though they hide on the summit of Carmel, I will search them out and take them from there; And though they conceal themselves from My sight on the floor of the sea, From there I will command the serpent and it will bite them. |
| 9:5 |
AndThe the Lord God of hosts, The One who touches the land so that it melts, And all those who dwell in it mourn, And all of it rises up like the Nile And subsides like the Nile of Egypt; |
| 9:6 |
The One who builds His upper chambers in the heavens, And has founded His vaulted dome over the earth, He who calls for the waters of the sea And pours them out on the face of the earth, The Lord is His name. |
| 9:11 |
In that day I will raise up the fallen booth of David, And wall up its breaches; I will also raise up its ruins, And rebuild it as in the days of old; |
| 9:13 |
Behold, days are coming, declares the Lord, When the plowman will overtake the reaper And the treader of grapes him who sows seed; When the mountains will drip sweet wine, And all the hills will be dissolved. |
| 9:14 |
Also I will restore the captivity of My people Israel, And they will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them,; They will also plant vineyards and drink their wine, And make gardens and eat their fruit. |
