| 1:1 |
Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained a like precious faith with us throughin the righteousness of our God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: |
| 1:2 |
Grace to you and peace be multiplied untoin you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,; |
| 1:3 |
Accordingseeing asthat his divine power hath givengranted unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us toby his own glory and virtue:; |
| 1:4 |
Wherebywhereby arehe givenhath granted unto us exceedinghis greatprecious and preciousexceeding great promises:; that bythrough these ye mightmay bebecome partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world throughby lust. |
| 1:5 |
AndYea, besideand for this, givingvery cause adding on your part all diligence, addin to your faith supply virtue; and toin your virtue knowledge; |
| 1:6 |
Andand toin your knowledge temperance; and toin your temperance patience; and toin your patience godliness; |
| 1:7 |
Andand toin your godliness brotherlylove kindnessof the brethren; and toin brotherlyyour kindnesslove charityof the brethren love. |
| 1:8 |
For if these things beare inyours you, and abound, they make you thatto yebe shallnot neitheridle be barren nor unfruitful inunto the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
| 1:9 |
ButFor he that lacketh these things is blind, andseeing cannotonly seewhat afaris offnear, andhaving hath forgotten thatthe hecleansing was purged from his old sins. |
| 1:10 |
Wherefore the rather, brethren, give the more diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fallstumble: |
| 1:11 |
Forfor sothus an entrance shall be ministeredrichly supplied unto you abundantlythe entrance into the everlastingeternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. |
| 1:12 |
Wherefore I willshall not be negligentready always to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and beare established in the presenttruth truthwhich is with you. |
| 1:13 |
Yea,And I think it meetright, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; |
| 1:14 |
Knowingknowing that shortlythe Iputting must put off thisof my tabernacle cometh swiftly, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hathsignified shewedunto me. |
| 1:15 |
MoreoverYea, I will endeavourgive diligence that at every time ye may be able after my decease to havecall these things alwaysto in remembrance. |
| 1:16 |
For we havedid not followedfollow cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. |
| 1:17 |
For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.: |
| 1:18 |
Andand this voice whichwe cameourselves fromheard heavencome weout heardof heaven, when we were with him in the holy mount. |
| 1:19 |
WeAnd we have alsothe aword moreof sureprophecy wordmade ofmore prophecysure; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a lightlamp thatshining shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: |
| 1:20 |
Knowingknowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. |
| 1:21 |
For theno prophecy ever came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake asfrom theyGod, werebeing moved by the Holy Ghost. |
| 2:1 |
But there werearose false prophets also among the people, even as among you also there shall be false teachers among you, who shall privily shall bring in damnabledestructive heresies, denying even denying the LordMaster that bought them, andbringing bring upon themselves swift destruction. |
| 2:2 |
And many shall follow their perniciouslascivious waysdoings; by reason of whom the way of the truth shall be evil spoken of. |
| 2:3 |
And throughin covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgmentsentence now from of aold long time lingereth not, and their damnationdestruction slumbereth not. |
| 2:4 |
For if God spared not the angels thatwhen they sinned, but cast them down to hell, and deliveredcommitted them intoto chainspits of darkness, to be reserved unto judgmentjudgement; |
| 2:5 |
Andand spared not the oldancient world, but savedpreserved Noah thewith eighthseven personothers, a preacher of righteousness, bringingwhen inhe thebrought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; |
| 2:6 |
Andand turning the cities of Sodom and GomorrhaGomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, makinghaving made them an ensampleexample unto those that after should live ungodly; |
| 2:7 |
Andand delivered justrighteous Lot, vexedsore withdistressed by the filthylascivious conversationlife of the wicked: |
| 2:8 |
Forfor that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawfullawless deeds;: |
| 2:9 |
Thethe Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptationstemptation, and to reservekeep the unjustunrighteous under punishment unto the day of judgment to be punished:judgement; |
| 2:10 |
Butbut chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleannessdefilement, and despise governmentdominion. Presumptuous are theyDaring, selfwilled, they aretremble not afraid to speakrail evilat of dignities.: |
| 2:11 |
Whereaswhereas angels, whichthough are greater in powermight and mightpower, bring not a railing accusationjudgement against them before the Lord. |
| 2:12 |
But these, as naturalcreatures brutewithout beastsreason, madeborn mere animals to be taken and destroyed, speakrailing evilin ofmatters thewhereof things that they understandare not;ignorant, and shall utterly perish in their owndestroying corruption;surely be destroyed, |
| 2:13 |
Andsuffering shallwrong receiveas the rewardhire of unrighteousness, wrong asdoing; theymen that count it pleasure to riotrevel in the day time., Spotsspots they are and blemishes, sportingrevelling themselvesin with their ownlove deceivingsfeasts while they feast with you; |
| 2:14 |
Havinghaving eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguilingenticing unstableunstedfast souls:; anhaving a heart theyexercised havein exercisedcovetousness; withchildren covetousof practicescursing; cursed children: |
| 2:15 |
Whichforsaking have forsaken the right way, andthey arewent gone astray, followinghaving followed the way of Balaam the son of BosorBeor, who loved the wageshire of unrighteousnesswrong doing; |
| 2:16 |
Butbut he was rebuked for his iniquityown transgression: thea dumb ass speakingspake with mans voice forbadand stayed the madness of the prophet. |
| 2:17 |
These are wellssprings without water, cloudsand thatmists aredriven carriedby with a tempeststorm; tofor whom the mistblackness of darkness ishath been reserved for ever. |
| 2:18 |
For, whenuttering they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allureentice throughin the lusts of the flesh, throughby much wantonnesslasciviousness, those thatwho wereare cleanjust escapedescaping from them whothat live in error.; |
| 2:19 |
Whilepromising they promise them liberty, while they themselves are thebondservants servants of corruption:; for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he also brought ininto bondage. |
| 2:20 |
For if, after they have escaped the pollutionsdefilements of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latterlast endstate is become worse with them than the beginningfirst. |
| 2:21 |
For it hadwere been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after theyknowing have known it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered unto them. |
| 2:22 |
ButIt ithas is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog isturning turned to his own vomit again;, and the sow that washad washed to her wallowing in the mire. |
| 3:1 |
This secondis epistlenow, beloved, the second epistle that I now write unto you; and in both whichof them I stir up your puresincere mindsmind by wayputting ofyou in remembrance:; |
| 3:2 |
Thatthat ye mayshould beremember mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostlesLord ofand theSaviour Lordthrough andyour Saviourapostles: |
| 3:3 |
Knowingknowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffersmockers shall come with mockery, walking after their own lusts, |
| 3:4 |
Andand saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for, sincefrom the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. |
| 3:5 |
For this they willinglywilfully are ignorant offorget, that bythere thewere word of God the heavens werefrom of old, and thean earth standingcompacted out of the water and inamidst water, by the water:word of God; |
| 3:6 |
Wherebyby which means the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: |
| 3:7 |
Butbut the heavens andthat thenow earthare, whichand arethe nowearth, by the same word arehave keptbeen instored storeup for fire, being reserved unto fire against the day of judgmentjudgement and perditiondestruction of ungodly men. |
| 3:8 |
But, beloved, forget be not ignorant of this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. |
| 3:9 |
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to usyou ward, not willingwishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. |
| 3:10 |
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall meltbe dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. |
| 3:11 |
Seeing then that all these things shallare thus all to be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversationliving and godliness, |
| 3:12 |
Lookinglooking for and hastingearnestly untodesiring the coming of the day of God, whereinby reason of which the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? |
| 3:13 |
Nevertheless weBut, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. |
| 3:14 |
Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for suchthese things, begive diligentdiligence that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless in his sight. |
| 3:15 |
And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given untoto him, hathwrote written unto you; |
| 3:16 |
Asas also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; inwherein which are some things hard to be understood, which theythe thatignorant are unlearned and unstableunstedfast wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. |
| 3:17 |
Ye therefore, beloved, seeingknowing ye know these things beforebeforehand, beware lest ye also, being ledcarried away with the error of the wicked, ye fall from your own stedfastness. |
| 3:18 |
But grow in the grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and for ever. Amen. |
