| 1:1 |
Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangerselect scatteredwho throughoutare sojourners of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, |
| 1:2 |
Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, throughin sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace untoto you, and peace, be multiplied. |
| 1:3 |
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, whichwho according to his abundantgreat mercy hathbegat begotten us again unto a livelyliving hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, |
| 1:4 |
Tounto an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, |
| 1:5 |
Whowho are kept by the power of God are guarded through faith unto a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. |
| 1:6 |
Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a seasonlittle while, if need be, ye arehave inbeen heavinessput throughto grief in manifold temptations:, |
| 1:7 |
Thatthat the trialproof of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it beis triedproved withby fire, might be found unto praise and honourglory and gloryhonour at the appearingrevelation of Jesus Christ: |
| 1:8 |
Whomwhom not having not seen, ye love; inon whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice greatly with joy unspeakable and full of glory: |
| 1:9 |
Receivingreceiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. |
| 1:10 |
OfConcerning which salvation the prophets havesought enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: |
| 1:11 |
Searchingsearching what, time or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signifypoint unto, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the gloryglories that should follow them. |
| 1:12 |
UntoTo whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto usyou, did they did minister thethese things, which are now reportedhave been announced unto you bythrough them that have preached the gospel unto you withby the Holy Ghost sent downforth from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into. |
| 1:13 |
Wherefore girdgirding up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hopeset toyour thehope endperfectly foron the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; |
| 1:14 |
Asas obedientchildren childrenof obedience, not fashioning yourselves according to theyour former lusts in the time of your ignorance: |
| 1:15 |
Butbut like as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye yourselves also holy in all manner of conversationliving; |
| 1:16 |
Becausebecause it is written, BeYe yeshall be holy; for I am holy. |
| 1:17 |
And if ye call on thehim as Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to everyeach mans work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: |
| 1:18 |
Forasmuchknowing as ye know that ye were redeemed, not redeemed with corruptible things, aswith silver andor gold, from your vain conversationmanner receivedof bylife traditionhanded down from your fathers; |
| 1:19 |
Butbut with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot, even the blood of Christ: |
| 1:20 |
Whowho verily was foreordainedforeknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was manifestmanifested inat thesethe lastend of the times for youyour sake, |
| 1:21 |
Whowho bythrough him doare believebelievers in God, thatwhich raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; so that your faith and hope might be in God. |
| 1:22 |
Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeyingyour theobedience truthto through the Spirittruth unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another withfrom athe pure heart fervently: |
| 1:23 |
Beinghaving bornbeen begotten again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, bythrough the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. |
| 1:24 |
For, allAll flesh is as grass, andAnd all the glory ofthereof man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: |
| 1:25 |
But the word of the Lord endurethabideth for ever. And this is the word whichof bygood thetidings gospelwhich iswas preached unto you. |
| 2:1 |
WhereforePutting layingaway asidetherefore all malicewickedness, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, |
| 2:2 |
Asas newborn babes, desirelong for the sincerespiritual milk ofwhich theis wordwithout guile, that ye may grow thereby: unto salvation; |
| 2:3 |
Ifif so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.: |
| 2:4 |
Tounto whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowedrejected indeed of men, but chosenwith ofGod Godelect, and precious, |
| 2:5 |
Yeye also, as livelyliving stones, are built up a spiritual house, anto be a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God bythrough Jesus Christ. |
| 2:6 |
WhereforeBecause also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in SionZion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: andAnd he that believeth on him shall not be confoundedput to shame. |
| 2:7 |
UntoFor you therefore which believe he is preciousthe preciousness: but untofor themsuch whichas be disobedientdisbelieve, theThe stone which the builders disallowedrejected, theThe same iswas made the head of the corner,; |
| 2:8 |
Andand, aA stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence,; evenfor tothey them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. |
| 2:9 |
But ye are aan chosenelect generationrace, a royal priesthood, ana holy nation, a peculiar people; for Gods own possession, that ye shouldmay shew forth the praisesexcellencies of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellousmarvelous light;: |
| 2:10 |
Whichwhich in time past were notno a people, but now are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. |
| 2:11 |
Dearly belovedBeloved, I beseech you as strangerssojourners and pilgrims, to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; |
| 2:12 |
Havinghaving your conversationbehaviour honestseemly among the Gentiles:; that, whereaswherein they speak against you as evildoersevil doers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. |
| 2:13 |
SubmitBe yourselvessubject to every ordinance of man for the Lords sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; |
| 2:14 |
Oror unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for thevengeance punishmenton ofevil evildoers, doers and for the praise ofto them that do well. |
| 2:15 |
For so is the will of God, that withby well doing ye mayshould put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: |
| 2:16 |
Asas free, and not using your libertyfreedom for a cloke of maliciousnesswickedness, but as thebondservants servants of God. |
| 2:18 |
Servants, be subjectin subjection to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. |
| 2:19 |
For this is thankworthyacceptable, if a man for conscience toward God endurea griefman endureth griefs, suffering wrongfully. |
| 2:20 |
For what glory is it, if, when ye besin, and are buffeted for your faultsit, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye shall take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. |
| 2:21 |
For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for usyou, leaving usyou an example, that ye should follow his steps: |
| 2:22 |
Whowho did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: |
| 2:23 |
Whowho, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: |
| 2:24 |
Whowho his own self bare our sins in his own body onupon the tree, that we, beinghaving deaddied tounto sins, shouldmight live unto righteousness:; by whose stripes ye were healed. |
| 2:25 |
For ye were asgoing sheepastray goinglike astraysheep; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls. |
| 3:1 |
LikewiseIn like manner, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, even if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be wongained by the conversationbehaviour of thetheir wives; |
| 3:2 |
Whilebeholding they behold your chaste conversationbehaviour coupled with fear. |
| 3:3 |
Whose adorning let it not be thatthe outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing jewels of gold, or of putting on of apparel; |
| 3:4 |
Butbut let it be the hidden man of the heart, in thatthe whichincorruptible isapparel not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. |
| 3:5 |
For after this manner inaforetime the old time the holy women also, who trustedhoped in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection untoto their own husbands: |
| 3:6 |
Even as SaraSarah obeyed Abraham, calling him Lord: whose daughterschildren ye now are, asif long as ye do well, and are not afraidput within fear by any amazementterror. |
| 3:7 |
LikewiseYe husbands, yein husbandslike manner, dwell with themyour wives according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wifewoman, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being also joint heirs together of the grace of life; to the end that your prayers be not hindered. |
| 3:8 |
Finally, be ye all of one mindlikeminded, having compassion one of anothercompassionate, loveloving as brethren, be pitifultenderhearted, be courteoushumbleminded: |
| 3:9 |
Notnot rendering evil for evil, or railingreviling for railing:reviling; but contrariwise blessing; knowingfor thathereunto were ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. |
| 3:10 |
For, heHe that willwould love life, andAnd see good days, letLet him refrain his tongue from evil, andAnd his lips that they speak no guile: |
| 3:11 |
LetAnd let him eschewturn away from evil, and do good; letLet him seek peace, and ensuepursue it. |
| 3:12 |
For the eyes of the Lord are overupon the righteous, andAnd his ears are open unto their prayerssupplication: butBut the face of the Lord is againstupon them that do evil. |
| 3:13 |
And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followerszealous of that which is good? |
| 3:14 |
But and if ye should suffer for righteousness sake, happyblessed are ye: and befear not afraid of their terrorfear, neither be troubled; |
| 3:15 |
Butbut sanctify thein Lordyour Godhearts inChrist youras heartsLord: andbeing be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason ofconcerning the hope that is in you, yet with meekness and fear: |
| 3:16 |
Havinghaving a good conscience; that, whereaswherein theyye speakare evilspoken of youagainst, as of evildoers, they may be ashamedput thatto falselyshame accusewho revile your good conversationmanner of life in Christ. |
| 3:17 |
For it is better, if the will of God beshould so will, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing. |
| 3:18 |
ForBecause Christ also hath once suffered for sins once, the justrighteous for the unjustunrighteous, that he might bring us to God,; being put to death in the flesh, but quickened byin the Spirit:spirit; |
| 3:19 |
Byin which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;, |
| 3:20 |
Whichwhich sometimeaforetime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls, were saved bythrough water.: |
| 3:21 |
Thewhich likealso figureafter whereuntoa eventrue baptismlikeness doth also now save usyou, even baptism, not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answerinterrogation of a good conscience toward God, bythrough the resurrection of Jesus Christ:; |
| 3:22 |
Whowho is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God, having gone into heaven; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him. |
| 4:1 |
Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm ye yourselves likewisealso with the same mind:; for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; |
| 4:2 |
Thatthat heye no longer should live the rest of hisyour time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. |
| 4:3 |
For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the willdesire of the Gentiles, whenand weto have walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of winewinebibbings, revellings, banquetingscarousings, and abominable idolatries: |
| 4:4 |
Whereinwherein they think it strange that ye run not with them tointo the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: |
| 4:5 |
Whowho shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead. |
| 4:6 |
For forunto this causeend was the gospel preached alsoeven to themthe that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. |
| 4:7 |
But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore soberof sound mind, and watchbe sober unto prayer.: |
| 4:8 |
And above all things havebeing fervent charityin your love among yourselves:; for charitylove shallcovereth covera the multitude of sins.: |
| 4:9 |
Useusing hospitality one to another without grudging.murmuring: |
| 4:10 |
Asaccording everyas maneach hath received thea gift, evenministering soit ministeramong the same one to anotheryourselves, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.; |
| 4:11 |
Ifif any man speakspeaketh, letspeaking himas speakit aswere the oracles of God; if any man ministerministereth, letministering him do it as of the abilitystrength which God givethsupplieth: that God in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, towhose whomis bethe praiseglory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen. |
| 4:12 |
Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial among you, which iscometh upon you to tryprove you, as though somea strange thing happened unto you: |
| 4:13 |
Butbut rejoice, insomuch inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christs sufferings, rejoice; that, whenat the revelation of his glory shallalso be revealed, ye may berejoice glad also with exceeding joy. |
| 4:14 |
If ye beare reproached for the name of Christ, happyblessed are ye; forbecause the spiritSpirit of glory and the Spirit of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. |
| 4:15 |
ButFor let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoerevil doer, or as a busybodymeddler in other mens matters.: |
| 4:16 |
Yetbut if anya man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God onin this behalfname. |
| 4:17 |
For the time is come thatfor judgmentjudgement mustto begin at the house of God: and if it begin first begin at us, what shall be the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? |
| 4:18 |
And if the righteous is scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? |
| 4:19 |
Wherefore let them also that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator. |
| 5:1 |
The elders whichtherefore are among you I exhort, who am alsoa anfellow elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, andwho am also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: |
| 5:2 |
FeedTend the flock of God which is among you, takingexercising the oversight thereof, not byof constraint, but willingly, according unto God; notnor yet for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; |
| 5:3 |
Neitherneither as beingLording Lordsit over Godsthe heritagecharge allotted to you, but beingmaking examplesyourselves ensamples to the flock. |
| 5:4 |
And when the chief Shepherd shall appearbe manifested, ye shall receive athe crown of glory that fadeth not away. |
| 5:5 |
Likewise, ye younger, submitbe yourselvessubject unto the elder. Yea, all of you begird subjectyourselves onewith to anotherhumility, andto beserve clothedone with humilityanother: for God resisteth the proud, andbut giveth grace to the humble. |
| 5:6 |
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:; |
| 5:7 |
Castingcasting all your careanxiety upon him;, forbecause he careth for you. |
| 5:8 |
Be sober, be vigilant;watchful: because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: |
| 5:9 |
Whomwhom resistwithstand stedfast in theyour faith, knowing that the same afflictionssufferings are accomplished in your brethren thatwho are in the world. |
| 5:10 |
ButAnd the God of all grace, who hath called usyou unto his eternal glory byin Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a little while, makeshall youhimself perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. |
| 5:11 |
To him be glorythe and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. |
| 5:12 |
By Silvanus, aour faithful brother unto you, as I supposeaccount him, I have written unto you briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God: whereinstand ye standfast therein. |
| 5:13 |
TheShe church that is atin Babylon, electedelect together with you, saluteth you; and so doth MarcusMark my son. |
| 5:14 |
GreetSalute ye one another with a kiss of charitylove. Peace be withunto you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen. |
