| 1:1 |
James a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ to the twelve tribes which are scatteredof abroadthe Dispersion greeting |
| 1:2 |
MyCount brethren count it all joy my brethren when ye fall into diversmanifold temptations; |
| 1:3 |
Knowingknowing this that the tryingproving of your faith worketh patience |
| 1:4 |
ButAnd let patience have herits perfect work that ye may be perfect and entire wantinglacking in nothing |
| 1:5 |
IfBut if any of you lacklacketh wisdom let him ask of God thatwho giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him |
| 1:6 |
But let him ask in faith nothing waveringdoubting: Forfor he that waverethdoubteth is like athe wavesurge of the sea driven withby the wind and tossed |
| 1:7 |
For let not that man think that he shall receive anyanything thing of the Lord; |
| 1:8 |
Aa doubledoubleminded minded man is unstable in all his ways |
| 1:9 |
LetBut let the brother of low degree rejoiceglory in thathis hehigh isestate: exalted: |
| 1:10 |
Butand the rich in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away |
| 1:11 |
For the sun isariseth no sooner risen with athe burningscorching heatwind butand it withereth the grass; and the flower thereof falleth and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his waysgoings |
| 1:12 |
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation:; for when he ishath triedbeen approved he shall receive the crown of life which the Lord hath promised to them that love him |
| 1:13 |
Let no man say when he is tempted I am tempted of God:; for God cannot be tempted with evil neitherand he himself tempteth heno any man: |
| 1:14 |
Butbut everyeach man is tempted when he is drawn away ofby his own lust and enticed |
| 1:15 |
Then whenthe lust when it hath conceived itbeareth bringeth forth sin: and the sin when it is finishedfullgrown bringeth forth death |
| 1:16 |
DoBe not errdeceived my beloved brethren |
| 1:17 |
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above andcoming cometh down from the Father of lights with whom iscan be no variablenessvariation neither shadow ofthat is cast by turning |
| 1:18 |
Of his own will begat he brought us withforth by the word of truth that we should be a kind of firstfruitsfirst fruits of his creatures |
| 1:19 |
WhereforeYe know this my beloved brethren But let every man be swift to hear slow to speak slow to wrath: |
| 1:20 |
Forfor the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God |
| 1:21 |
Wherefore layputting apartaway all filthiness and superfluityoverflowing of naughtinesswickedness and receive with meekness the engraftedimplanted word which is able to save your souls |
| 1:22 |
But be ye doers of the word and not hearers only deceivingdeluding your own selves |
| 1:23 |
For if any beone is a hearer of the word and not a doer he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glassmirror: |
| 1:24 |
Forfor he beholdeth himself and goeth hisaway way and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was |
| 1:25 |
But whosohe that looketh into the perfect law the law of liberty and so continueth therein he being not a forgetful hearer that forgetteth but a doer ofthat theworketh work this man shall be blessed in his deeddoing |
| 1:26 |
If any man amongthinketh youhimself seem to be religious andwhile he bridleth not his tongue but deceiveth his own heart this mans religion is vain |
| 1:27 |
Pure religion and undefiled before our God and the Father is this Toto visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction and to keep himselfoneself unspotted from the world |
| 2:1 |
My brethren havehold not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ the Lord of glory with respect of persons |
| 2:2 |
For if there come untointo your assemblysynagogue a man with a gold ring in goodlyfine apparelclothing and there come in also a poor man in vile raimentclothing; |
| 2:3 |
Andand ye have respectregard to him that weareth the gayfine clothing and say unto him Sit thou here in a good place; and ye say to the poor man Stand thou there or sit here under my footstool:; |
| 2:4 |
Aredo ye not thenmake partialdistinctions inamong yourselves and are become judges ofwith evil thoughts |
| 2:5 |
Hearken my beloved brethren; Hathdid not God chosenchoose thethem that are poor ofas thisto the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him |
| 2:6 |
But ye have despiseddishonored the poor man Do not the rich men oppress you and drawthemselves drag you before the judgment seats |
| 2:7 |
Do not they blaspheme thatthe worthyhonorable name by the which ye are called |
| 2:8 |
IfHowbeit if ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture Thou shalt love thy neighbourneighbor as thyself ye do well: |
| 2:9 |
Butbut if ye have respect toof persons ye commit sin andbeing areconvicted convincedby of the law as transgressors |
| 2:10 |
For whosoever shall keep the whole law and yet offendstumble in one point he is become guilty of all |
| 2:11 |
For he that said Do not commit adultery said also Do not kill Now if thou dost not commit no adultery yetbut ifkillest thou kill thou art become a transgressor of the law |
| 2:12 |
So speak ye and so do as theymen that shallare to be judged by thea law of liberty |
| 2:13 |
For hejudgment shallis have judgment without mercy to him that hath shewedshowed no mercy;: and mercy rejoicethglorieth against judgment |
| 2:14 |
What doth it profit my brethren thoughif a man say he hath faith andbut have not works can that faith save him |
| 2:15 |
If a brother or sister be naked and destitutein lack of daily food |
| 2:16 |
Andand one of you say unto them DepartGo in peace be ye warmed and filled; notwithstandingand yet ye give them not thosethe things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit |
| 2:17 |
Even so faith if it hathhave not works is dead beingin aloneitself |
| 2:18 |
Yea a man maywill say Thou hast faith and I have works: shewshow me thy faith withoutapart from thy works and I by my works will shewshow thee my faith by my works |
| 2:19 |
Thou believest that thereGod is one God; thou doest well: the devilsdemons also believe and trembleshudder |
| 2:20 |
But wilt thou know O vain man that faith withoutapart from works is deadbarren |
| 2:21 |
Was not Abraham our father justified by works whenin that he had offered up Isaac his son upon the altar |
| 2:22 |
SeestThou thouseest howthat faith wrought with his works and by works was faith made perfect; |
| 2:23 |
Andand the scripture was fulfilled which saith And Abraham believed God and it was imputedreckoned unto him for righteousness:; and he was called the Friendfriend of God |
| 2:24 |
Ye see then how that by works a man is justified and not only by faith only |
| 2:25 |
LikewiseAnd alsoin like manner was not also Rahab the harlot justified by works whenin that she had received the messengers and had sent them out another way |
| 2:26 |
For as the body withoutapart from the spirit is dead even so faith withoutapart from works is dead also |
| 3:1 |
MyBe brethren be not many mastersof you teachers my brethren knowing that we shall receive theheavier greaterjudgment condemnation |
| 3:2 |
For in many things we offend all stumble If any manstumbleth offend not in word the same is a perfect man and able also to bridle the whole body also |
| 3:3 |
BeholdNow if we put bits in the horses bridles into their mouths that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body also |
| 3:4 |
Behold also the ships whichalso though they beare so great and are driven ofby fiercerough winds yet are theyyet turned about withby a very small helmrudder whithersoeverwhither the governorimpulse listethof the steersman willeth |
| 3:5 |
EvenSo so the tongue also is a little member and boasteth great things Behold how greatmuch awood matteris kindled by how small a little fire kindleth |
| 3:6 |
And the tongue is a fire: athe world of iniquity: soamong our members is the tongue amongwhich our members that it defileth the whole body and setteth on fire the coursewheel of nature; and it is set on fire ofby hell |
| 3:7 |
For every kind of beasts and of birds and of serpentscreeping things and of things in the sea is tamed and hath been tamed ofby mankind: |
| 3:8 |
Butbut the tongue can no man tame; it is ana unrulyrestless evil it is full of deadly poison |
| 3:9 |
Therewith bless we Godthe evenLord theand Father; and therewith curse we men whichwho are made after the similitudelikeness of God: |
| 3:10 |
Outout of the same mouth proceedethcometh forth blessing and cursing My brethren these things ought not so to be |
| 3:11 |
Doth athe fountain send forth atfrom the same placeopening sweet water and bitter |
| 3:12 |
Cancan thea fig tree my brethren bearyield oliveolives berriesor either a vine figs soneither can no fountain both yield salt water andyield freshsweet |
| 3:13 |
Who is a wise man and enduedunderstanding with knowledge among you let him shewshow outby ofhis a good conversationlife his works within meekness of wisdom |
| 3:14 |
But if ye have bitter envyingjealousy and strifefaction in your heartsheart glory not and lie not against the truth |
| 3:15 |
This wisdom descendethis not a wisdom that cometh down from above but is earthly sensual devilish |
| 3:16 |
For where envyingjealousy and strifefaction isare there is confusion and every evilvile workdeed |
| 3:17 |
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure then peaceable gentle and easy to be intreatedentreated full of mercy and good fruits without partialityvariance and without hypocrisy |
| 3:18 |
And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace offor them that make peace |
| 4:1 |
FromWhence whence come wars and whence come fightings among you come they not hence even of your lustspleasures that war in your members |
| 4:2 |
Ye lust and have not: ye kill and desirecovet to have and cannot obtain: ye fight and war; yet ye have not because ye ask not |
| 4:3 |
Ye ask and receive not because ye ask amiss that ye may consumespend it uponin your lustspleasures |
| 4:4 |
Ye adulterers and adulteresses know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God whosoeverWhosoever therefore willwould be a friend of the world ismaketh thehimself an enemy of God |
| 4:5 |
DoOr think ye think that the scripture saithspeaketh in vain TheDoth the spirit thatwhich dwellethhe made to dwell in us lustethlong tounto envyenvying |
| 4:6 |
But he giveth more grace Wherefore hethe scripture saith God resisteth the proud but giveth grace untoto the humble |
| 4:7 |
SubmitBe yourselvessubject therefore tounto God; Resistbut resist the devil and he will flee from you |
| 4:8 |
Draw nigh to God and he will draw nigh to you Cleanse your hands ye sinners; and purify your hearts ye doubledoubleminded minded |
| 4:10 |
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord and he shall liftexalt you up |
| 4:11 |
Speak not evil one ofagainst another brethren He that speaketh evilagainst ofa his brother andor judgeth his brother speaketh evilagainst of the law and judgeth the law: but if thou judgejudgest the law thou art not a doer of the law but a judge |
| 4:12 |
ThereOne only is onethe lawgiver and judge even he who is able to save and to destroy: but who art thou that judgest anotherthy neighbor |
| 4:13 |
GoCome to now ye that say To day or to morrow we will go into suchthis a city and continuespend there a year andthere buy and selltrade and get gain: |
| 4:14 |
Whereaswhereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow ForWhat what is your life ItFor isye evenare a vapourvapor that appeareth for a little time and then vanisheth away |
| 4:15 |
For that ye ought to say If the Lord will we shall both live and do this or that |
| 4:16 |
But now ye rejoiceglory in your boastingsvauntings: all such rejoicingglorying is evil |
| 4:17 |
ThereforeTo to him therefore that knoweth to do good and doeth it not to him it is sin |
| 5:1 |
GoCome to now ye rich men weep and howl for your miseries that shallare comecoming upon you |
| 5:2 |
Your riches are corrupted and your garments are motheatenmoth eaten |
| 5:3 |
Your gold and your silver isare cankeredrusted; and thetheir rust of them shall be for a witnesstestimony against you and shall eat your flesh as it were fire Ye have heapedlaid up your treasure togetherin for the last days |
| 5:4 |
Behold the hire of the labourerslaborers who havemowed reaped down your fields which is of you kept back by fraud crieth out: and the cries of them whichthat have reaped arehave entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaothSabaoth |
| 5:5 |
Ye have lived indelicately pleasure on the earth and beentaken wantonyour pleasure; ye have nourished your hearts as in a day of slaughter |
| 5:6 |
Ye have condemned andye have killed the justrighteous one; and he doth not resist you |
| 5:7 |
Be patient therefore brethren untountil the coming of the Lord Behold the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth andbeing hathpatient longover patience for it until heit receive the early and latter rain |
| 5:8 |
Be ye also patient; stablishestablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord drawethis nighat hand |
| 5:9 |
GrudgeMurmur not brethren one against another brethrenthat lest ye be condemnednot judged: behold the judge standeth before the doordoors |
| 5:10 |
Take my brethren for an example of suffering and of patience the prophets who havespake spoken in the name of the Lord for an example of suffering affliction and of patience |
| 5:11 |
Behold we countcall them happyblessed whichthat endureendured: Yeye have heard of the patience of Job and have seen the end of the Lord; how that the Lord is veryfull pitifulof pity and of tender mercymerciful |
| 5:12 |
But above all things my brethren swear not neither by the heaven neithernor by the earth neithernor by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay nay; lestthat ye fall intonot condemnationunder judgment |
| 5:13 |
Is any among you afflictedsuffering let him pray Is any merrycheerful let him sing psalmspraise |
| 5:14 |
Is any sick among you sick let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: |
| 5:15 |
Andand the prayer of faith shall save thehim that is sick and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins theyit shall be forgiven him |
| 5:16 |
Confess therefore your faultssins one to another and pray one for another that ye may be healed The effectualsupplication fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much in its working |
| 5:17 |
EliasElijah was a man subjectof to like passions aswith weus are and he prayed earnestlyfervently that it might not rain:; and it rained not on the earth byfor the space of three years and six months |
| 5:18 |
And he prayed again; and the heaven gave rain and the earth brought forth her fruit |
| 5:19 |
BrethrenMy brethren if any ofamong you do err from the truth and one convert him; |
| 5:20 |
Letlet him know that he whichwho converteth thea sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death and shall hidecover a multitude of sins |
