andYou ye shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land;. yeYou shall break down their altars. But yeyou have not hearkenedlistened untoto my voice:. whyWhy have yeyou done this? |
| 2:3 |
WhereforeTherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shallwill be a snare untoto you. |
| 2:4 |
AndWhen itYahwehs came to pass, when the angel ofspoke Jehovah spake these words untoto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept. |
| 2:5 |
AndThey they called the name of that place Bochim:, and they sacrificed there untoto JehovahYahweh. |
| 2:6 |
Now when Joshua had sent the people away, the children of Israel each went everyto man unto his inheritance to possess the land. |
| 2:7 |
AndThe the people served JehovahYahweh all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders thatwho outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work of JehovahYahweh that he had wroughtworked for Israel. |
| 2:8 |
And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of JehovahYahweh, died, being aone hundred and ten years old. |
| 2:9 |
AndThey they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath heresHeres, in the hill country of Ephraim, on the north of the mountain of Gaash. |

| 2:11 |
AndThe the children of Israel did that which was evil in theYahwehs sight of Jehovah, and served the Baalim;Baals. |

| 2:13 |
AndThey theyabandoned forsook JehovahYahweh, and served Baal and the Ashtaroth. |
| 2:14 |
AndYahwehs the anger ofburned Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilersraiders thatwho despoiledplundered them;. andHe he sold them into the hands of their enemies roundall aboutaround, so that they could notno any longer stand before their enemies. |
| 2:15 |
WhithersoeverWherever they went out, theYahwehs hand of Jehovah was against them for evil, as JehovahYahweh had spoken, and as JehovahYahweh had sworn untoto them:; and they were sorevery distressed. |
| 2:16 |
AndYahweh Jehovah raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those thatwho despoiledplundered them. |
| 2:17 |
AndYet yet they hearkeneddidnt notlisten untoto their judges; for they playedprostituted thethemselves harlotto after other gods, and bowed themselves down untoto them:. theyThey quickly turned asideaway quicklyfrom out of the way whereinin which their fathers walked, obeying theYahwehs commandments. ofThey Jehovah;didnt butdo they did not so. |
| 2:18 |
AndWhen whenYahweh Jehovah raised them up judges for them, then JehovahYahweh was with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge:; for it repentedgrieved JehovahYahweh because of their groaning by reason of themthose thatwho oppressed them and vexedtroubled them. |
| 2:19 |
But it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they turned back, and dealt more corruptly than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down untoto them;. theyThey ceaseddidnt notcease fromwhat theirthey doingswere doing, noror fromgive up their stubborn wayways. |
| 2:20 |
AndYahwehs the anger ofburned Jehovah was kindled against Israel; and he said, Because this nation have transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and havehas not hearkenedlistened untoto my voice;, |
| 2:21 |
I also will notno henceforthlonger drive out any from before them of the nations that Joshua left when he died from before them; |
| 2:22 |
that by them I may provetest Israel, whetherto see if they will keep theYahwehs way of Jehovah to walk therein, as their fathers didkept keep it, or not. |
| 2:23 |
So JehovahYahweh left those nations, without driving them out hastily;. neitherHe delivereddidnt hedeliver them into theJoshuas hand of Joshua. |
| 3:1 |
Now these are the nations which JehovahYahweh left, to provetest Israel by them, even as many of Israel as had not known all the wars of Canaan; |
| 3:2 |
only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least suchthose aswho beforetime knew nothing thereofof it before: |
| 3:3 |
namely, the five Lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites thatwho dweltlived inon mountMount Lebanon, from mountMount Baal hermonHermon untoto the entrance of Hamath. |
| 3:4 |
AndThey they were left, to provetest Israel by them, to know whether they would hearkenlisten untoto theYahwehs commandments of Jehovah, which he commanded their fathers by Moses. |
| 3:5 |
AndThe the children of Israel dweltlived among the Canaanites, the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites:. |
| 3:6 |
andThey they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their own daughters to their sons and served their gods. |
| 3:7 |
AndThe the children of Israel did that which was evil in theYahwehs sight of Jehovah, and forgatforgot JehovahYahweh their God, and served the BaalimBaals and the Asheroth. |
| 3:8 |
Therefore theYahwehs anger ofburned Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Cushan rishathaimRishathaim king of Mesopotamia:; and the children of Israel served Cushan rishathaimRishathaim eight years. |
| 3:9 |
AndWhen when the children of Israel cried untoto JehovahYahweh, JehovahYahweh raised up a savioursavior to the children of Israel, who saved them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Calebs younger brother. |
| 3:10 |
AndYahwehs the Spirit of Jehovah came uponon him, and he judged Israel; and he went out to war, and JehovahYahweh delivered Cushan rishathaimRishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand:. andHis his hand prevailed against Cushan rishathaimRishathaim. |
| 3:11 |
AndThe the land had rest forty years., Andthen Othniel the son of Kenaz died. |
| 3:12 |
AndThe the children of Israel again did that which was evil in theYahwehs sight, of Jehovah: and JehovahYahweh strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done that which was evil in theYahwehs sight of Jehovah. |
| 3:13 |
AndHe he gathered unto him the children of Ammon and Amalek to himself; and he went and smotestruck Israel, and they possessed the city of palm trees. |
| 3:14 |
AndThe the children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years. |
| 3:15 |
But when the children of Israel cried untoto JehovahYahweh, JehovahYahweh raised them up a saviour, savior for them: Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a man left handed man. AndThe the children of Israel sent tribute by him untoto Eglon the king of Moab. |
| 3:16 |
And Ehud made himhimself a sword which had two edges, a cubit in length; and he girdedwore it under his raimentclothing uponon his right thigh. |
| 3:17 |
AndHe he offered the tribute untoto Eglon king of Moab:. nowNow Eglon was a very fat man. |
| 3:18 |
AndWhen whenEhud he had madefinished an end of offering the tribute, he sent away the people thatwho barecarried the tribute. |
| 3:19 |
But he himself turned back from the quarriesstone idols that were by Gilgal, and said, I have a secret errandmessage untofor theeyou, O king. AndThe heking said, Keep silence.! AndAll allwho that stood by him wentleft out from him. |
| 3:20 |
And Ehud came untoto him; and he was sitting by himself alone in the cool upper room. And Ehud said, I have a message from God untoto theeyou. AndHe he arose out of his seat. |
| 3:21 |
And Ehud put forthout his left hand, and took the sword from his right thigh, and thrust it into his body:. |
| 3:22 |
andThe thehandle haft also went in after the blade; and the fat closed uponon the blade, for he drewdidnt notdraw the sword out of his body; and it came out behind. |
| 3:23 |
Then Ehud went forthout intoonto the porch, and shut the doors of the upper room uponon him, and locked them. |
| 3:24 |
NowAfter when he washad gone out, his servants came; and they saw, and, that behold, the doors of the upper room were locked;. andThey they said, Surely he is covering his feet in the upper chamberroom. |
| 3:25 |
AndThey theywaited tarrieduntil till they were ashamed; and, behold, he openeddidnt notopen the doors of the upper room:. thereforeTherefore they took the key, and opened them;, and, behold, their Lord washad fallen down dead on the earthfloor. |
| 3:26 |
And Ehud escaped while they tarriedwaited, and passed beyond the quarriesstone idols, and escaped untoto Seirah. |
| 3:27 |
AndWhen it came to pass, when he washad come, that he blew a trumpet in the hill country of Ephraim; and the children of Israel went down with him from the hill country, and he beforeled them. |
| 3:28 |
AndHe he said untoto them, Follow after me; for JehovahYahweh hathhas delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand. AndThey theyfollowed went down after him, and took the fords of the Jordan against the Moabites, and suffereddidnt notallow aany man to pass over. |
| 3:29 |
AndThey theystruck smote of Moab at that time about ten thousand men of Moab, every lustystrong man, and every man of valor;. andNo thereman escaped not a man. |
| 3:30 |
So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. AndThen the land had rest fourscoreeighty years. |
| 3:31 |
AndAfter after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, who smotestruck six hundred men of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox goad:. andHe he also saved Israel. |
| 4:1 |
AndThe the children of Israel again did that which was evil in theYahwehs sight of Jehovah, when Ehud was dead. |
| 4:2 |
AndYahweh Jehovah sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, thatwho reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose hostarmy was Sisera, who dweltlived in Harosheth of the Gentiles. |
| 4:3 |
AndThe the children of Israel cried untoto Jehovah:Yahweh, for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel for twenty years. |
| 4:4 |
Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, she judged Israel at that time. |
| 4:5 |
AndShe shelived dwelt under theDeborahs palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and BethBethel el in the hill country of Ephraim:; and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment. |
| 4:6 |
AndShe she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh naphtaliNaphtali, and said untoto him, HathHasnt not JehovahYahweh, the God of Israel, commanded, saying, Go and drawlead untothe mountway to Mount Tabor, and take with theeyou ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun? |
| 4:7 |
And I will draw untoto theeyou, to the river Kishon, Sisera, the captain of Jabins army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into thyyour hand. |
| 4:8 |
And Barak said untoto her, If thouyou wiltwill go with me, then I will go; but if thouyou wiltwill not go with me, I will not go. |
| 4:9 |
AndShe she said, I will surely go with thee:you. notwithstandingNevertheless, the journey that thouyou takesttake shallwont not be for thineyour honor; for JehovahYahweh will sell Sisera into thea womans hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh. |
| 4:10 |
And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali together to Kedesh;. andTen there went up ten thousand men atfollowed hishim; feet: and Deborah went up with him. |
| 4:11 |
Now Heber the Kenite had separated himself from the Kenites, even from the children of Hobab, theMoses brother in law of Moses, and had pitched his tent as far as the oak in Zaanannim, which is by Kedesh. |
| 4:12 |
AndThey they told Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam washad gone up to mountMount Tabor. |
| 4:13 |
And Sisera gathered together all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people thatwho were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles, untoto the river Kishon. |
| 4:14 |
And Deborah said untoto Barak, UpGo; for this is the day in which JehovahYahweh hathhas delivered Sisera into thyyour hand;. isHasnt notYahweh Jehovah gone out before theeyou? So Barak went down from mountMount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him. |
| 4:15 |
AndYahweh Jehovahconfused discomfited Sisera, and all his chariots, and all his hostarmy, with the edge of the sword before Barak;. and Sisera alightedabandoned from his chariot, and fled away on his feet. |
| 4:16 |
But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the host, army untoto Harosheth of the Gentiles:; and all the hostarmy of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword;. thereThere was not a man left. |
| 4:17 |
HowbeitHowever Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite; for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite. |
| 4:18 |
And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said untoto him, Turn in, my Lord, turn in to me; feardont notbe afraid. AndHe hecame turned in untoto her into the tent, and she covered him with a rug. |
| 4:19 |
AndHe he said untoto her, GivePlease give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink; for I am thirsty. AndShe she opened a bottlecontainer of milk, and gave him a drink, and covered him. |
| 4:20 |
AndHe he said untoto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and itif shall be, when any man dothcomes come and inquireinquires of theeyou, and saysays, Is there any man here? thatyou thoushall shalt say, No. |
| 4:21 |
Then Jael, Hebers wife, took a tent pinpeg, and took a hammer in her hand, and went softly untoto him, and smotestruck the pin into his temples, and it pierced through into the ground;, for he was in a deep sleep; so he swoonedfainted and died. |
| 4:22 |
AndBehold, behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said untoto him, Come, and I will show theeyou the man whom thouyou seekestseek. AndHe he came untoto her; and, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the tent pinpeg was in his temples. |
| 4:23 |
So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel on that day. |
| 4:24 |
AndThe the hand of the children of Israel prevailed more and more against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan. |

AndYahwehs the angel of Jehovah came, and sat under the oak which was in Ophrah, that pertainedbelonged untoto Joash the Abiezrite:. andHis his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the winepresswine press, to hide it from the Midianites. |
| 6:12 |
AndYahwehs the angel of Jehovah appeared untoto him, and said untoto him, JehovahYahweh is with theeyou, thouyou mighty man of valor.! |
| 6:13 |
And Gideon said untoto him, Oh, my Lord, if JehovahYahweh is with us, why then ishas all this befallenhappened to us? andWhere where are all his wondrous works which our fathers told us of, saying, DidDidnt notYahweh Jehovah bring us up from Egypt? butBut now JehovahYahweh hathhas cast us off, and delivered us into the hand of Midian. |
| 6:14 |
AndYahweh Jehovah looked uponat him, and said, Go in this thyyour might, and save Israel from the hand of Midian:. haveHavent not I sent theeyou? |
| 6:15 |
AndHe he said untoto him, Oh,O Lord, wherewithhow shall I save Israel? beholdBehold, my family is the poorest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my fathers house. |
| 6:16 |
AndYahweh Jehovah said untoto him, Surely I will be with theeyou, and thouyou shaltshall smitestrike the Midianites as one man. |
| 6:17 |
AndHe he said untoto him, If now I have found favor in thyyour sight, then show me a sign that it is thouyou thatwho talkesttalk with me. |
| 6:18 |
DepartPlease notdont hence,go Iaway pray thee, until I come untoto theeyou, and bring forthout my present, and lay it before theeyou. AndHe he said, I will tarrywait until thouyou come againback. |
| 6:19 |
And Gideon went in, and madeprepared ready a kid, young goat and unleavened cakes of an ephah of meal:. theHe fleshput hethe putmeat in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out untoto him under the oak, and presented it. |
| 6:20 |
AndThe the angel of God said untoto him, Take the fleshmeat and the unleavened cakes, and lay them uponon this rock, and pour out the broth. AndHe he did so. |
| 6:21 |
Then theYahwehs angel ofstretched Jehovahout put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the fleshmeat and the unleavened cakes; and therefire went up fire out of the rock, and consumed the fleshmeat and the unleavened cakes;. andThen theYahwehs angel of Jehovah departed out of his sight. |
| 6:22 |
And Gideon saw that he was theYahwehs angel of Jehovah; and Gideon said, Alas, O Lord JehovahYahweh! forasmuchBecause as I have seen theYahwehs angel of Jehovah face to face.! |
| 6:23 |
AndYahweh Jehovah said untoto him, Peace be untoto thee;you! fearDont not:be thouafraid. shaltYou shall not die. |
| 6:24 |
Then Gideon built an altar there untoto JehovahYahweh, and called it JehovahYahweh shalom:is untoPeace. To this day it is yetstill in Ophrah of the Abiezrites. |
| 6:25 |
AndThat it came to pass the same night, thatYahweh Jehovah said untoto him, Take thyyour fathers bullockbull, even the second bullockbull seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that thyyour father hathhas, and cut down the Asherah that is by it;. |
| 6:26 |
andThen build an altar untoto JehovahYahweh thyyour God uponon the top of this stronghold, in thean orderly mannerway, and take the second bullockbull, and offer a burnt offering with the wood of the Asherah which thouyou shaltshall cut down. |
| 6:27 |
Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as JehovahYahweh had spoken untoto him:. andBecause it came to pass, because he feared his fathers household and the men of the city, so that he could not do it by day, thatbut he did it by night. |
| 6:28 |
AndWhen when the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was broken down, and the Asherah was cut down that was by it, and the second bullockbull was offered uponon the altar that was built. |
| 6:29 |
AndThey they said to one to another, Who hathhas done this thing? AndWhen when they inquired and asked, they said, Gideon the son of Joash hathhas done this thing. |
| 6:30 |
Then the men of the city said untoto Joash, Bring out thyyour son, that he may die, because he hathhas broken down the altar of Baal, and because he hathhas cut down the Asherah that was by it. |
| 6:31 |
And Joash said untoto all thatwho stood against him, Will yeyou contend for Baal? orOr will yeyou save him? heHe thatwho will contend for him, let him be put to death whilstby it is yet morning:! ifIf he beis a god, let him contend for himself, because onesomeone hathhas broken down his altar.! |
| 6:32 |
Therefore on that day he callednamed him JerubbaalJerub Baal, saying, Let Baal contend against him, because he hathhas broken down his altar. |
| 6:34 |
But theYahwehs Spirit of Jehovah came uponon Gideon;, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered together afterto follow him. |
| 6:35 |
AndHe he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh;, and they also were gathered together afterto follow him:. andHe he sent messengers untoto Asher, andto unto Zebulun, and untoto Naphtali; and they came up to meet them. |
| 6:36 |
And Gideon said untoto God, If thouyou wiltwill save Israel by my hand, as thouyou hasthave spoken, |
| 6:37 |
behold, I will put a fleece of wool on the threshing floor;. ifIf there beis dew on the fleece only, and it beis dry uponon all the ground, then shallIll I know that thouyou wiltwill save Israel by my hand, as thouyou hasthave spoken. |
| 6:38 |
AndIt it was so; for he rose up early on the morrownext day, and pressed the fleece together, and wrung the dew out of the fleece, a bowlfulbowl full of water. |
| 6:39 |
And Gideon said untoto God, LetDont notlet thineyour anger be kindled against me, and I will speak but this once:. Please let me make a trial, Ijust pray thee, but this once with the fleece;. letLet it now be dry only uponon the fleece, and uponon all the ground let there be dew. |
| 6:40 |
And God did so that night:; for it was dry uponon the fleece only, and there was dew on all the ground. |
| 7:1 |
Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people thatwho were with him, rose up early, and encamped beside the spring of Harod:. andMidians the camp of Midian was on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley. |
| 7:2 |
AndYahweh Jehovah said untoto Gideon, The people thatwho are with theeyou are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel vauntbrag themselves against me, saying, MineMy own hand hathhas saved me. |
| 7:3 |
Now therefore proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, WhosoeverWhoever is fearful and trembling, let him return and depart from mountMount Gilead. AndSo theretwenty returnedtwo thousand of the people twentyreturned, and twoten thousand; and there remained ten thousand. |
| 7:4 |
AndYahweh Jehovah said untoto Gideon, TheThere people are yetstill too many; bringpeople. Bring them down untoto the water, and I will trytest them for theeyou there:. andIt it shall be, that ofthose whom I saytell unto theeyou, This shall go with theeyou, the same shall go with theeyou; and ofwhoever whomsoever I saytell unto theeyou, This shall not go with theeyou, the same shall not go. |
| 7:5 |
So he brought down the people untoto the water:; and JehovahYahweh said untoto Gideon, EveryEveryone onewho thatlaps lappeth of the water with his tongue, aslike a dog lappethlaps, himyou shaltshall thou set him by himself; likewise everyeveryone onewho thatbows boweth down uponon his knees to drink. |
| 7:6 |
AndThe the number of themthose thatwho lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men:; but all the rest of the people bowed down uponon their knees to drink water. |
| 7:7 |
AndYahweh Jehovah said untoto Gideon, ByI will save you by the three hundred men thatwho lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thyyour hand;. andLet let all the other people go, everyeach manto unto his own place. |
| 7:8 |
So the people took victualsfood in their hand, and their trumpets; and he sent all the rest of the men of Israel everyto mantheir untoown his tenttents, but retained the three hundred men:; and the camp of Midian was beneath him in the valley. |
| 7:9 |
AndThat it came to pass the same night, thatYahweh Jehovah said untoto him, Arise, getgo thee down into the camp;, for I have delivered it into thyyour hand. |
| 7:10 |
But if thouyou fearare afraid to go down, go thou with Purah thyyour servant down to the camp:. |
| 7:11 |
andYou thouwill shalt hear what they say; and afterward shallyour thy hands will be strengthened to go down into the camp. Then went he down with Purah his servant untoto the outermost part of the armed men thatwho were in the camp. |
| 7:12 |
AndThe the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like locusts for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand which is uponon the seaseashore shore for multitude. |
| 7:13 |
AndWhen when Gideon washad come, behold, there was a man telling a dream untoto his fellow;. andHe he said, Behold, I dreamed a dream; and, lobehold, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian, and came untoto the tent, and smotestruck it so that it fell, and turned it upside down, so that the tent lay flat. |
| 7:14 |
AndHis his fellow answered and said, This is nothing elseother savethan the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel:. intoGod hishas handdelivered GodMidian hathinto deliveredhis Midianhand, andwith all the hostarmy. |
| 7:15 |
AndIt it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and theits interpretation thereof, that he worshipped;worshiped. andThen he returned into the camp of Israel, and said, Arise;, for JehovahYahweh hathhas delivered intothe yourarmy handof theMidian hostinto ofyour Midian.hand! |
| 7:16 |
AndHe he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put into the hands of all of them trumpets, and empty pitchers, with torches within the pitchers. |
| 7:17 |
AndHe he said untoto them, LookWatch on me, and do likewise:. andBehold, behold, when I come to the outermost part of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so you shall ye do. |
| 7:18 |
When I blow the trumpet, I and all thatwho are with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and sayshout, For JehovahYahweh and for Gideon.! |
| 7:19 |
So Gideon, and the hundred men thatwho were with him, came untoto the outermost part of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch, when they had but newly set the watch:. andThen they blew the trumpets, and brakebroke in pieces the pitchers that were in their hands. |
| 7:20 |
AndThe the three companies blew the trumpets, andbroke brake the pitchers, and held the torches in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands wherewithwith which to blow; and they criedshouted, The sword of JehovahYahweh and of Gideon.! |
| 7:21 |
AndThey theyeach stood every man in his place roundaround about the camp;, and all the hostarmy ran; and they shouted, and put them to flight. |
| 7:22 |
AndThey they blew the three hundred trumpets, and JehovahYahweh set every mans sword against his fellow, and against all the hostarmy; and the hostarmy fled as far as Beth shittahShittah toward Zererah, as far as the border of Abel meholahMeholah, by Tabbath. |
| 7:23 |
AndThe the men of Israel were gathered together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued after Midian. |
| 7:24 |
And Gideon sent messengers throughout all the hill country of Ephraim, saying, Come down against Midian, and take the waters before them the waters, as far as Beth barahBarah, even the Jordan.! So all the men of Ephraim were gathered together, and took the waters as far as Beth barahBarah, even the Jordan. |
| 7:25 |
AndThey they took the two princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb;. andThey theykilled slew Oreb at theOrebs rock of Oreb, and Zeeb they slewkilled at theZeebs winepresswine of Zeebpress, andas they pursued Midian:. andThen they brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon beyond the Jordan. |
| 8:1 |
AndThe the men of Ephraim said untoto him, Why hasthave thouyou servedtreated us thusthis way, that thouyou calledstdidnt call us not, when thouyou wentestwent to fight with Midian? AndThey theyrebuked did chide with him sharply. |
| 8:2 |
AndHe he said untoto them, What have I now done in comparison with you? IsIsnt not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer? |
| 8:3 |
God hathhas delivered into your hand the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb:! andWhat what was I able to do in comparison with you? Then their anger was abated toward him, when he had said that. |
| 8:4 |
And Gideon came to the Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men thatwho were with him, faint, yet pursuing. |
| 8:5 |
AndHe he said untoto the men of Succoth, Give,Please Igive pray you, loaves of bread untoto the people thatwho follow me; for they are faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian. |
| 8:6 |
AndThe the princes of Succoth said, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thyyour hand, that we should give bread untoto thineyour army? |
| 8:7 |
And Gideon said, Therefore when JehovahYahweh hathhas delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers. |
| 8:8 |
AndHe he went up thencethere to Penuel, and spakespoke untoto them in likethe mannersame way; and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered. |
| 8:9 |
AndHe hespoke spake also untoto the men of Penuel, saying, When I come again in peace, I will break down this tower. |
| 8:10 |
Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their hostsarmies with them, about fifteen thousand men, all thatwho were left of all the hostarmy of the children of the east; for there fell aone hundred and twenty thousand men thatwho drew sword. |
| 8:11 |
And Gideon went up by the way of themthose thatwho dweltlived in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and smotestruck the hostarmy; for the hostarmy wasfelt secure. |
| 8:12 |
And Zebah and Zalmunna fled; and he pursued after them;. andHe he took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and discomfitedconfused all the hostarmy. |
| 8:13 |
And Gideon the son of Joash returned from the battle from the ascent of Heres. |
| 8:14 |
AndHe he caught a young man of the men of Succoth, and inquired of him:; and he described for him the princes of Succoth, and theits elders thereof, seventy and seven men. |
| 8:15 |
AndHe he came untoto the men of Succoth, and said, BeholdSee Zebah and Zalmunna, concerning whom yeyou didtaunted taunt me, saying, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thyyour hand, that we should give bread untoto thyyour men thatwho are weary? |
| 8:16 |
AndHe he took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth. |
| 8:17 |
AndHe hebroke brake down the tower of Penuel, and slewkilled the men of the city. |
| 8:18 |
Then he said heto unto Zebah and Zalmunna, What mannerkind of men were they whom yeyou slewkilled at Tabor? AndThey they answered, AsThey thouwere art, like soyou. wereThey they;all each one resembled the children of a king. |
| 8:19 |
AndHe he said, They were my brethrenbrothers, the sons of my mother:. asAs JehovahYahweh livethlives, if yeyou had saved them alive, I would not slaykill you. |
| 8:20 |
AndHe he said untoto Jether his first bornfirstborn, Up,Get up and slaykill them.! But the youth drewdidnt notdraw his sword; for he fearedwas afraid, because he was yet a youth. |
| 8:21 |
Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, RiseYou thou, rise and fall uponon us; for as the man is, so is his strength. And Gideon arose, and slewkilled Zebah and Zalmunna, and took the crescents that were on their camels necks. |
| 8:22 |
Then the men of Israel said untoto Gideon, Rule thou over us, both thouyou, andyour thy son, and thyyour sons son also; for thouyou hasthave saved us out of the hand of Midian. |
| 8:23 |
And Gideon said untoto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you:. JehovahYahweh shall rule over you. |
| 8:24 |
And Gideon said untoto them, I woulddo makehave a request: ofthat you, thatwould yeeach would give me every man the earearrings rings of his spoilplunder. For they had golden ear ringsearrings, because they were Ishmaelites. |
| 8:25 |
AndThey they answered, We will willingly give them. AndThey they spread a garment, and did cast therein every man threw the earearrings rings of his spoilplunder into it. |
| 8:26 |
AndThe the weight of the golden earearrings rings that he requested was aone thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold;, besidesin addition to the crescents, and the pendants, and the purple raimentclothing that was on the kings of Midian, and besidesin addition to the chains that were about their camels necks. |
| 8:27 |
And Gideon made an ephod thereofout of it, and put it in Ophrah, his city,. evenThen in Ophrah: and all Israel played the harlotprostitute afterwith it there; and it became a snare untoto Gideon, and to his house. |
| 8:28 |
So Midian was subdued before the children of Israel, and they lifted up their heads no more. AndThe the land had rest forty years in the days of Gideon. |
| 8:29 |
And Jerubbaal the son of Joash went and dweltlived in his own house. |
| 8:30 |
And Gideon had threescoreseventy andsons tenconceived sonsfrom of his body, begotten; for he had many wives. |
| 8:31 |
AndHis his concubine thatwho was in Shechem, she also barebore him a son, and he callednamed hishim name Abimelech. |
| 8:32 |
And Gideon the son of Joash died in a good old age, and was buried in the sepulchretomb of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites. |
| 8:33 |
AndAs it came to pass, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the children of Israel turned again, and played the harlotprostitute afterfollowing the BaalimBaals, and made Baal berithBerith their god. |
| 8:34 |
AndThe the children of Israel remembereddidnt notremember JehovahYahweh their God, who had delivered them out of the hand of all their enemies on every side; |
| 8:35 |
neither showeddid they show kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, whothat is, Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had showedshown untoto Israel. |
| 9:1 |
And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem untoto his mothers brethrenbrothers, and spakespoke with them, and with all the family of the house of his mothers father, saying, |
| 9:2 |
Speak,Please Ispeak pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, WhetherIs isit better for you, that all the sons of Jerubbaal, who are threescoreseventy and ten persons, rule over you, or that one rule over you? rememberRemember also that I am your bone and your flesh. |
| 9:3 |
AndHis his mothers brethrenbrothers spakespoke of him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words:. andTheir their hearts inclined to follow Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother. |
| 9:4 |
AndThey they gave him threescoreseventy and ten pieces of silver out of the house of Baal berithBerith, wherewithwith which Abimelech hired vain and lightreckless fellows, who followed him. |
| 9:5 |
AndHe he went untoto his fathers house at Ophrah, and slewkilled his brethrenbrothers the sons of Jerubbaal, being threescoreseventy and ten persons, uponon one stone:; but Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left;, for he hid himself. |
| 9:6 |
AndAll all the men of Shechem assembled themselves together, andwith all the house of Millo, and went and made Abimelech king, by the oak of the pillar that was in Shechem. |
| 9:7 |
AndWhen when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood on the top of mountMount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, andcried criedout, and said untoto them, HearkenListen untoto me, yeyou men of Shechem, that God may hearkenlisten untoto you. |
| 9:8 |
The trees wentset forthout on a time to anoint a king over them;themselves. andThey they said untoto the olive tree, Reign thou over us. |
| 9:9 |
But the olive tree said untoto them, Should I leavestop producing my fatnessoil, wherewithwith bywhich me they honor God and man by me, and go to wave toback and froforth over the trees? |
| 9:10 |
AndThe the trees said to the fig tree, Come thou, and reign over us. |
| 9:11 |
But the fig tree said untoto them, Should I leave my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to wave toback and froforth over the trees? |
| 9:12 |
AndThe the trees said untoto the vine, Come thou, and reign over us. |
| 9:13 |
AndThe the vine said untoto them, Should I leave my new wine, which cheerethcheers God and man, and go to wave toback and froforth over the trees? |
| 9:14 |
Then said all the trees untosaid to the bramble, Come thou, and reign over us. |
| 9:15 |
AndThe the bramble said untoto the trees, If in truth yeyou anoint me king over you, then come and take refuge in my shade; and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon. |
| 9:16 |
Now therefore, if yeyou have dealt truly and uprightlyrighteously, in that yeyou have made Abimelech king, and if yeyou have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done untoto him according to the deserving of his hands |
| 9:17 |
for my father fought for you, andrisked adventured his life, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian:; |
| 9:18 |
and yeyou arehave risen up against my fathers house thistoday day, and have slain his sons, threescoreseventy and ten persons, uponon one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his maidfemale servant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother; |
| 9:19 |
if yeyou then have dealt truly and uprightlyrighteously with Jerubbaal and with his house this daytoday, then rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you:; |
| 9:20 |
but if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem, and the house of Millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from the house of Millo, and devour Abimelech. |
| 9:21 |
And Jotham ran away, and fled, and went to Beer, and dweltlived there, for fear of Abimelech his brother. |
| 9:22 |
And Abimelech was prince over Israel three years. |
| 9:23 |
AndThen God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:, |
| 9:24 |
that the violence done to the threescoreseventy and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and that their blood might be laid uponon Abimelech their brother, who slewkilled them, and uponon the men of Shechem, who strengthened his hands to slaykill his brethrenbrothers. |
| 9:25 |
AndThe the men of Shechem set liersan inambush wait for him on the tops of the mountains, and they robbed all thatwho came along that way by them:; and itAbimelech was told Abimelechabout it. |
| 9:26 |
And Gaal the son of Ebed came with his brethren, brothers and went over to Shechem; and the men of Shechem put their trust in him. |
| 9:27 |
AndThey they went out into the field, andharvested gathered their vineyards, and trod the grapes, and held festivalcelebrated, and went into the house of their god, and didate eat and drinkdrank, and cursed Abimelech. |
| 9:28 |
And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? isIsnt not he the son of Jerubbaal? andIsnt Zebul his officer? serveServe ye the men of Hamor the father of Shechem:, but why should we serve him? |
| 9:29 |
AndI wouldwish that this people were under my hand! thenThen I would I remove Abimelech. AndHe he said to Abimelech, Increase thineyour army, and come out.! |
| 9:30 |
AndWhen when Zebul the ruler of the city heard the words of Gaal the son of Ebed, his anger was kindledburned. |
| 9:31 |
AndHe he sent messengers untoto Abimelech craftily, saying, Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brethrenbrothers arehave come to Shechem; and, behold, they constrainincite the city to take part against theeyou. |
| 9:32 |
Now therefore, go up by night, thouyou and the people thatwho are with theeyou, and lie in wait in the field:. |
| 9:33 |
andIt it shall be, that in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, thouyou shaltshall rise early, and rush uponon the city;. andBehold, behold, when he and the people thatwho are with him come out against theeyou, then mayestmay thouyou do to them as thouyou shaltshall find occasion. |
| 9:34 |
And Abimelech rose up, and all the people thatwho were with him, by night, and they laid wait against Shechem in four companies. |
| 9:35 |
And Gaal the son of Ebed went out, and stood in the entrance of the gate of the city:. and Abimelech rose up, and the people thatwho were with him, from the ambushmentambush. |
| 9:36 |
AndWhen when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, Behold, therepeople comeare peoplecoming down from the tops of the mountains. And Zebul said untoto him, ThouYou seestsee the shadowshadows of the mountains as if they were men. |
| 9:37 |
And Gaal spakespoke again and said, SeeBehold, therepeople comeare peoplecoming down by the middle of the land, and one company comethcomes by the way of the oak of Meonenim. |
| 9:38 |
Then Zebul said Zebulto unto him, WhereNow where is nowyour thy mouth, that thouyou saidstsaid, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? isIsnt not this the people that thouyou hasthave despised? Please go out now, I pray, and fight with them. |
| 9:39 |
And Gaal went out before the men of Shechem, and fought with Abimelech. |
| 9:40 |
And Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him, and theremany fell many wounded, even untoto the entrance of the gate. |
| 9:41 |
And Abimelech dweltlived at Arumah:; and Zebul drove out Gaal and his brethrenbrothers, that they should not dwell in Shechem. |
| 9:42 |
AndOn itthe camenext to pass on the morrowday, that the people went out into the field; and they told Abimelech. |
| 9:43 |
AndHe he took the people, and divided them into three companies, and laid wait in the field; and he looked, and, behold, the people came forth out of the city;. andSo, he rose up against them, and smotestruck them. |
| 9:44 |
And Abimelech, and the companies that were with him, rushed forward, and stood in the entrance of the gate of the city:; and the two companies rushed uponon all thatwho were in the field, and smotestruck them. |
| 9:45 |
And Abimelech fought against the city all that day; and he took the city, and slewkilled the people thatin wereit. therein:He and he beat down the city, and sowed it with salt. |
| 9:46 |
AndWhen when all the men of the tower of Shechem heard thereofof it, they entered into the stronghold of the house of Elberith. |
| 9:47 |
AndAbimelech it was told Abimelech that all the men of the tower of Shechem were gathered together. |
| 9:48 |
And Abimelech gatwent him up to mountMount Zalmon, he and all the people thatwho were with him; and Abimelech took an axeax in his hand, and cut down a bough from the trees, and took it up, and laid it on his shoulder:. andThen he said untoto the people thatwho were with him, What yeyou have seen me do, make haste, and do as I have done.! |
| 9:49 |
AndAll all the people likewise each cut down every man his bough, and followed Abimelech, and put them toat the base of the stronghold, and set the stronghold on fire uponover them;, so that all the menpeople of the tower of Shechem died also, about a thousand men and women. |
| 9:50 |
Then Abimelech went Abimelech to Thebez, and encamped against Thebez, and took it. |
| 9:51 |
But there was a strong tower within the city, and thither fled all the men and women, and all they of the city fled there, and shut themselves in, and gatwent them up to the roof of the tower. |
| 9:52 |
And Abimelech came untoto the tower, and fought against it, and drewcame near untoto the door of the tower to burn it with fire. |
| 9:53 |
AndA a certain woman cast an upper millstone uponon Abimelechs head, and brakebroke his skull. |
| 9:54 |
Then he called hastily untoto the young man, his armorbearerarmor bearer, and said untoto him, Draw thyyour sword, and kill me, that men not say not of me, A woman slewkilled him. AndHis his young man thrust him through, and he died. |
| 9:55 |
AndWhen when the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was dead, they each departed everyto man unto his place. |
| 9:56 |
Thus God requitedrepaid the wickedness of Abimelech, which he did untoto his father, in slayingkilling his seventy brethrenbrothers; |
| 9:57 |
and God repaid all the wickedness of the men of Shechem didon God requite upon their heads:; and upon them came the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal came on them. |
| 10:1 |
AndAfter after Abimelech, there arose to save Israel Tola the son of Puah, the son of Dodo, a man of Issachar;, andarose heto dweltsave Israel. He lived in Shamir in the hill country of Ephraim. |
| 10:2 |
AndHe he judged Israel twenty and three years, and died, and was buried in Shamir. |
| 10:3 |
AndAfter after him arose Jair, the Gileadite;, andarose. heHe judged Israel twenty and two years. |
| 10:4 |
AndHe he had thirty sons thatwho rode on thirty assdonkey colts,. andThey they had thirty cities, which are called Havvoth jairJair untoto this day, which are in the land of Gilead. |
| 10:5 |
And Jair died, and was buried in Kamon. |
| 10:6 |
AndThe the children of Israel again did that which was evil in theYahwehs sight of Jehovah, and served the BaalimBaals, and the Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Sidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines;. andThey theyabandoned forsook JehovahYahweh, and serveddidnt serve him not. |
| 10:7 |
AndYahwehs the anger ofburned Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the children of Ammon. |
| 10:8 |
AndThey theytroubled vexed and oppressed the children of Israel that year:. For eighteen years they oppressed they all the children of Israel that were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead. |
| 10:9 |
AndThe the children of Ammon passed over the Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim;, so that Israel was sorevery distressed. |
| 10:10 |
AndThe the children of Israel cried untoto JehovahYahweh, saying, We have sinned against theeyou, even because we have forsaken our God, and have served the BaalimBaals. |
| 10:11 |
AndYahweh Jehovah said untoto the children of Israel, DidDidnt not I save you from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines? |
| 10:12 |
The Sidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, didoppressed oppress you; and yeyou cried untoto me, and I saved you out of their hand. |
| 10:13 |
Yet yeyou have forsaken me, and served other gods:. whereforeTherefore I will save you no more. |
| 10:14 |
Go and cry untoto the gods which yeyou have chosen;. letLet them save you in the time of your distress.! |
| 10:15 |
AndThe the children of Israel said untoto JehovahYahweh, We have sinned:! doDo thouto unto us whatsoeverwhatever seemethseems good untoto theeyou; only deliver us, we pray theeplease, this daytoday. |
| 10:16 |
AndThey they put away the foreign gods from among them, and served JehovahYahweh; and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel. |
| 10:17 |
Then the children of Ammon were gathered together, and encamped in Gilead. AndThe the children of Israel assembled themselves together, and encamped in Mizpah. |
| 10:18 |
AndThe the people, the princes of Gilead, said to one to another, WhatWho man is hethe thatman who will begin to fight against the children of Ammon? heHe shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead. |
| 11:1 |
Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valor,. andHe he was the son of a harlot:prostitute. and Gilead begatbecame the father of Jephthah. |
| 11:2 |
And Gileads wife barebore him sons;. andWhen when his wifes sons grew up, they drove Jephthah out Jephthah, and said untoto him, ThouYou shaltwill not inherit in our fathers house;, for thouyou artare the son of another woman. |
| 11:3 |
Then Jephthah fled from his brethren, brothers and dweltlived in the land of Tob:. andOutlaws therejoined wereup gatheredwith vain fellows to Jephthah, and they went out with him. |
| 11:4 |
AndAfter it came to pass after a while, that the children of Ammon made war against Israel. |
| 11:5 |
AndWhen it was so, that, when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to fetchget Jephthah out of the land of Tob;. |
| 11:6 |
andThey they said untoto Jephthah, Come and be our chief, that we may fight with the children of Ammon. |
| 11:7 |
And Jephthah said untoto the elders of Gilead, DidDidnt notyou ye hate me, and drive me out of my fathers house? andWhy whyhave areyou ye come untoto me now when yeyou are in distress? |
| 11:8 |
AndThe the elders of Gilead said untoto Jephthah, Therefore are we have turned again to theeyou now, that thouyou mayestmay go with us, and fight with the children of Ammon;. andYou thouwill shalt be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead. |
| 11:9 |
And Jephthah said untoto the elders of Gilead, If yeyou bring me home again to fight with the children of Ammon, and JehovahYahweh deliverdelivers them before me, shallwill I be your head? |
| 11:10 |
AndThe the elders of Gilead said untoto Jephthah, JehovahYahweh shallwill be witness between us;. surelySurely accordingwe towill thydo wordwhat soyou will we dosay. |
| 11:11 |
Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and chief over them:. and Jephthah spakespoke all his words before JehovahYahweh in Mizpah. |
| 11:12 |
And Jephthah sent messengers untoto the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hastdo thouyou have to do with me, that thouyou arthave come untoto me to fight against my land? |
| 11:13 |
AndThe the king of the children of Ammon answered unto the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land, when he came up out of Egypt, from the Arnon even untoto the Jabbok, and untoto the Jordan:. nowNow therefore restore thosethat landsterritory again peaceably. |
| 11:14 |
And Jephthah sent messengers again untoto the king of the children of Ammon; |
| 11:15 |
and he said untoto him, ThusJephthah saith Jephthahsays: Israel tookdidnt nottake away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon; |
| 11:16 |
but when they came up from Egypt, and Israel went through the wilderness untoto the Red Sea, and came to Kadesh;, |
| 11:17 |
then Israel sent messengers untoto the king of Edom, saying, LetPlease let me, I pray thee, pass through thyyour land; but the king of Edom hearkeneddidnt notlisten. AndIn inthe likesame mannerway, he sent untoto the king of Moab;, but he wouldrefused; not:so and Israel abodestayed in Kadesh. |
| 11:18 |
Then they went through the wilderness, and went around the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and they encamped on the other side of the Arnon; but they camedidnt notcome within the border of Moab, for the Arnon was the border of Moab. |
| 11:19 |
And Israel sent messengers untoto Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said untoto him, LetPlease let us pass, we pray thee, through thyyour land untoto my place. |
| 11:20 |
But Sihon trusteddidnt nottrust Israel to pass through his border; but Sihon gathered all his people together, and encamped in Jahaz, and fought against Israel. |
| 11:21 |
And JehovahYahweh, the God of Israel, delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smotestruck them:. soSo Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country. |
| 11:22 |
AndThey they possessed all the border of the Amorites, from the Arnon even untoto the Jabbok, and from the wilderness even untoto the Jordan. |
| 11:23 |
So now JehovahYahweh, the God of Israel, hathhas dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel, and shouldestshould thouyou possess them? |
| 11:24 |
WiltWont notyou thou possess that which Chemosh thyyour god givethgives theeyou to possess? So whomsoeverwhoever JehovahYahweh our God hathhas dispossessed from before us, them will we possess. |
| 11:25 |
AndNow noware artyou thou anything better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? didDid he ever strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them? |
| 11:26 |
While Israel dweltlived in Heshbon and its towns, and in Aroer and its towns, and in all the cities that are along by the side of the Arnon, for three hundred years;! whereforeWhy diddidnt yeyou not recover them within that time? |
| 11:27 |
Therefore I therefore have not sinned against theeyou, but thouyou doestdo me wrong to war against me:. Jehovah,May Yahweh the Judge, be judge thistoday day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon. |
| 11:28 |
HowbeitHowever, the king of the children of Ammon hearkeneddidnt notlisten untoto the words of Jephthah which he sent him. |
| 11:29 |
Then theYahwehs Spirit of Jehovah came uponon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead and Manasseh, and passed over MizpehMizpah of Gilead, and from MizpehMizpah of Gilead he passed over untoto the children of Ammon. |
| 11:30 |
And Jephthah vowed a vow untoto JehovahYahweh, and said, If thouyou wiltwill indeed deliver the children of Ammon into my hand, |
| 11:31 |
then it shall be, that whatsoeverwhatever comethcomes forthout fromof the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, it shall be JehovahsYahwehs, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering. |
| 11:32 |
So Jephthah passed over untoto the children of Ammon to fight against them; and JehovahYahweh delivered them into his hand. |
| 11:33 |
AndHe hestruck smote them from Aroer until thouyou come to Minnith, even twenty cities, and untoto Abel cheramimAbelcheramim, with a very great slaughter. So the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel. |
| 11:34 |
And Jephthah came to Mizpah untoto his house; and, behold, his daughter came out to meet him with timbrelstambourines and with dances:. andShe she was his only child;. besidesBesides her he had neither son nor daughter. |
| 11:35 |
AndWhen it came to pass, when he saw her, that he renttore his clothes, and said, Alas, my daughter! thouYou hasthave brought me very low, and thouyou artare one of themthose thatwho trouble me; for I have opened my mouth untoto JehovahYahweh, and I cannotcant go back. |
| 11:36 |
AndShe she said untoto him, My father, thouyou hasthave opened thyyour mouth untoto JehovahYahweh; do untoto me according to that which hathhas proceeded out of thyyour mouth, forasmuchbecause asYahweh Jehovahhas hath taken vengeance for theeyou on thineyour enemies, even on the children of Ammon. |
| 11:37 |
AndThen she said untoto her father, Let this thing be done for me:. letLeave me alone two months, that I may depart and go down uponon the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my companions. |
| 11:38 |
AndHe he said, Go. AndHe he sent her away for two months:; and she departed, she and her companions, and bewailedmourned her virginity uponon the mountains. |
| 11:39 |
AndAt it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned untoto her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed:. andShe shewas knewa not manvirgin. AndIt itbecame was a custom in Israel, |
| 12:1 |
AndThe the men of Ephraim were gathered together, and passed northward; and they said untoto Jephthah, WhereforeWhy passedstdid thouyou pass over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didstdidnt not call us to go with theeyou? weWe will burn thyyour house uponaround theeyou with fire.! |
| 12:2 |
And Jephthah said untoto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, yeyou saveddidnt save me not out of their hand. |
| 12:3 |
AndWhen when I saw that yeyou saveddidnt save me not, I put my life in my hand, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and JehovahYahweh delivered them into my hand:. whereforeWhy then arehave yeyou come up untoto me this daytoday, to fight against me? |
| 12:4 |
Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim;. andThe the men of Gilead smotestruck Ephraim, because they said, YeYou are fugitives of Ephraim, yeyou Gileadites, in the midstmiddle of Ephraim, and in the midstmiddle of Manasseh. |
| 12:5 |
AndThe the Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. AndWhenever ita wasfugitive so, that, when any of the fugitives of Ephraim said, Let me go over, the men of Gilead said untoto him, ArtAre thouyou an Ephraimite? If he said, NayNo; |
| 12:6 |
then they said theyto unto him, SayNow nowsay Shibboleth; and he said Sibboleth; for he couldcouldnt notmanage frame to pronounce it right:correctly, then they laidseized hold on him, and slewkilled him at the fords of the Jordan. AndAt therethat felltime, atforty thattwo timethousand of Ephraim forty and two thousandfell. |
| 12:7 |
And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite died, and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead. |
| 12:8 |
AndAfter after him Ibzan of BethBethlehem lehem judged Israel. |
| 12:9 |
AndHe he had thirty sons;. andHe sent his thirty daughters heoutside senthis abroadclan, and thirty daughters he brought in thirty daughters from abroadoutside his clan for his sons. AndHe he judged Israel seven years. |
| 12:10 |
And Ibzan died, and was buried at Beth lehemBethlehem. |
| 12:11 |
AndAfter after him, Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years. |
| 12:12 |
And Elon the Zebulunite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the land of Zebulun. |
| 12:13 |
AndAfter after him, Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel. |

| 12:15 |
And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites. |
| 13:1 |
AndThe the children of Israel again did that which was evil in theYahwehs sight of Jehovah; and JehovahYahweh delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years. |
| 13:2 |
AndThere there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and bare notchildless. |
| 13:3 |
AndYahwehs the angel of Jehovah appeared untoto the woman, and said untoto her, BeholdSee now, thouyou artare barren, and bearest notchildless; but thouyou shaltshall conceive, and bear a son. |
| 13:4 |
Now therefore please beware, I pray thee, and drink no wine nor strong drink, and dont eat not any unclean thing:; |
| 13:5 |
for, lobehold, thouyou shaltshall conceive, and beargive birth to a son;. andNo no razor shall come uponon his head;, for the child shall be a Nazirite untoto God from the womb:. andHe he shall begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines. |
| 13:6 |
Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came untoto me, and his countenanceface was like the countenanceface of the angel of God, very terrible;awesome. and I askeddidnt ask him notwhere whence he was from, neither tolddid he tell me his name:; |
| 13:7 |
but he said untoto me, Behold, thouyou shaltshall conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink,. andDont eat not any unclean thing;, for the child shall be a Nazirite untoto God from the womb to the day of his death. |
| 13:8 |
Then Manoah entreated JehovahYahweh, and said, Oh, Lord, Iplease pray thee, let the man of God whom thouyou didstsent send come again untoto us, and teach us what we shallshould do untoto the child thatwho shall be born. |
| 13:9 |
And God hearkenedlistened to the voice of Manoah;, and the angel of God came again untoto the woman as she sat in the field:; but Manoah, her husband, waswasnt not with her. |
| 13:10 |
AndThe the woman madehurried haste, and ran, and told her husband, andsaying saidto unto him, Behold, the man hathwho appearedcame untoto me, that cameday untohas meappeared theto other dayme. |
| 13:11 |
And Manoah arose, and wentfollowed after his wife, and came to the man, and said untoto him, ArtAre thouyou the man thatwho spakestspoke untoto themy womanwife? AndHe he said, I am. |
| 13:12 |
And Manoah said, Now let thyyour words comehappen. toWhat pass: what shall be the orderingchilds way of thelife child, and howmission shall we do unto himbe? |
| 13:13 |
AndYahwehs the angel of Jehovah said untoto Manoah, Of all that I said untoto the woman let her beware. |
| 13:14 |
She may not eat of anything that comethcomes of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing;. Let her observe all that I commanded her let her observe. |
| 13:15 |
And Manoah said untoto theYahwehs angel of Jehovah, IPlease praystay thee, with let us detain thee, that we may make ready a kidyoung goat ready for theeyou. |
| 13:16 |
AndYahwehs the angel of Jehovah said untoto Manoah, Though thouyou detain me, I willwont not eat ofyour thy bread;. andIf ifyou thouwill wiltprepare make ready a burnt offering, thouyou must offer it untoto JehovahYahweh. For Manoah knewdidnt notknow that he was theYahwehs angel of Jehovah. |
| 13:17 |
And Manoah said untoto theYahwehs angel of Jehovah, What is thyyour name, that, when thyyour words come to passhappen, we may dohonor thee honoryou? |
| 13:18 |
AndYahwehs the angel of Jehovah said untoto him, WhereforeWhy askestdo thouyou afterask about my name, seeingsince it is wonderfulincomprehensible? |
| 13:19 |
So Manoah took the kidyoung goat with the meal offering, and offered it uponon the rock untoto Jehovah:Yahweh. andThen the angel did wondrously,an andamazing thing as Manoah and his wife looked onwatched. |
| 13:20 |
For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaventhe sky from off the altar, thatYahwehs the angel of Jehovah ascended in the flame of the altar:. and Manoah and his wife looked onwatched; and they fell on their faces to the ground. |
| 13:21 |
But theYahwehs angel ofdidnt Jehovah did no more appear to Manoah or to his wife any more. Then Manoah knew that he was theYahwehs angel of Jehovah. |
| 13:22 |
And Manoah said untoto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God. |
| 13:23 |
But his wife said untoto him, If JehovahYahweh were pleased to kill us, he wouldwouldnt not have received a burnt offering and a meal offering at our hand, neitherand would he wouldnt have showedshown us all these things, nor would athe this time have told us such things as these at this time. |
| 13:24 |
AndThe the woman barebore a son, and callednamed hishim name Samson:. andThe the child grew, and JehovahYahweh blessed him. |
| 13:25 |
AndYahwehs the Spirit of Jehovah began to move him in Mahaneh danDan, between Zorah and Eshtaol. |
| 14:1 |
And Samson went down to Timnah, and saw a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines. |
| 14:2 |
AndHe he came up, and told his father and his mother, and saidsaying, I have seen a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines:. nowNow therefore get her for me toas my wife. |
| 14:3 |
Then his father and his mother said untoto him, IsIsnt there never a woman among theyour brothers daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thouyou goestgo to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said untoto his father, Get her for me;, for she pleasethpleases me well. |
| 14:4 |
But his father and his mother knewdidnt notknow that it was of JehovahYahweh; for he sought an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines hadruled rule over Israel. |
| 14:5 |
Then Samson went Samson down, andto Timnah with his father and his mother, to Timnah, and came to the vineyards of Timnah:; and, behold, a young lion roared againstat him. |
| 14:6 |
AndYahwehs the Spirit of Jehovah came mightily uponon him, and he renttore him as he would have renttorn a kid;young andgoat hewith hadhis nothingbare inhands, his hand: but he tolddidnt nottell his father or his mother what he had done. |
| 14:7 |
AndHe he went down, and talked with the woman, and she pleased Samson well. |
| 14:8 |
AndAfter after a while he returned to take her;, and he turnedwent asideover to see the carcass of the lion:; and, behold, there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey. |
| 14:9 |
AndHe he took it into his hands, and went on, eating as he went;. andHe he came to his father and mother, and gave untoto them, and they didate, eat: but he tolddidnt tell them not that he had taken the honey out of the lions body of the lion. |
| 14:10 |
AndHis his father went down untoto the woman:; and Samson made there a feast; there, for so used the young men used to do so. |
| 14:11 |
AndWhen it came to pass, when they saw him, that they brought thirty companions to be with him. |
| 14:12 |
And Samson said untoto them, Let me nowtell putyou forth a riddle untonow. If you: if ye can declaretell itme untothe meanswer within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty changes of raimentclothing; |
| 14:13 |
but if yeyou cannotcant declaretell itme untothe meanswer, then you shall ye give me thirty linen garments and thirty changes of raimentclothing. AndThey they said untoto him, PutTell forthus thyyour riddle, that we may hear it. |
| 14:14 |
AndHe he said untoto them, Out of the eater came forthout food,. AndOut out of the strong came forthout sweetness. AndThey theycouldnt could not in three days declare the riddle. |
| 14:15 |
AndOn it came to pass on the seventh day, that they said untoto Samsons wife, Entice thyyour husband, that he may declare untoto us the riddle, lest we burn theeyou and thyyour fathers house with fire:. haveHave yeyou called us to impoverish us? isIsnt itthat not so? |
| 14:16 |
And Samsons wife wept before him, and said, ThouYou dostjust but hate me, and lovestdont love me. not:Youve thoutold hast put forth a riddle untoto the children of my people, and hasthavent not told it to me. AndHe he said untoto her, Behold, I havehavent not told it my father noror my mother, andso shallwhy should I tell theeyou? |
| 14:17 |
AndShe she wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted:; and it came to pass on the seventh day, that he told her, because she pressed him soreseverely; and she told the riddle to the children of her people. |
| 14:18 |
AndThe the men of the city said untoto him on the seventh day before the sun went down, What is sweeter than honey? andWhat what is stronger than a lion? AndHe he said untoto them, If yeyou hadhadnt not plowed with my heifer, Yeyou hadwouldnt nothave found out my riddle. |
| 14:19 |
AndYahwehs the Spirit of Jehovah came mightily uponon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and smotestruck thirty men of them,. andHe took their spoilplunder, andthen gave the changes of raimentclothing untoto themthose thatwho declared the riddle. AndHis his anger was kindledburned, and he went up to his fathers house. |
| 14:20 |
But Samsons wife was given to his companion, whomwho he had usedbeen as his friend. |
| 15:1 |
But it came to pass after a while, in the time of wheat harvest, that Samson visited his wife with a kid;young andgoat. heHe said, I will go in to my wifewifes into the chamberroom. But her father wouldwouldnt notallow suffer him to go in. |
| 15:2 |
AndHer her father said, I verilymost certainly thought that thouyou hadst utterly hated her; therefore I gave her to thyyour companion:. isIsnt not her younger sister fairermore beautiful than she? Please, take her, I pray thee, instead of her. |
| 15:3 |
And Samson said untoto them, This time shall I will be blameless in regardthe case of the Philistines, when I doharm them a mischief. |
| 15:4 |
And Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took firebrandstorches, and turned tail to tail, and put a firebrandtorch in the midstmiddle between every two tails. |
| 15:5 |
AndWhen when he had set the brandstorches on fire, he let them go into the standing grain of the Philistines, and burntburned up both the shocks and the standing grain, and also the oliveyardsolive groves. |
| 15:6 |
Then the Philistines said, Who hathhas done this? AndThey they said, Samson, the son in law of the Timnite, because he hathhas taken his wife, and given her to his companion. AndThe the Philistines came up, and burntburned her and her father with fire. |
| 15:7 |
And Samson said untoto them, If yeyou dobehave afterlike this manner, surely I will betake avengedrevenge ofon you, and after that I will cease. |
| 15:8 |
AndHe hestruck smote them hip and thigh with a great slaughter:; and he went down and dweltlived in the cleftcave ofin theEtams rock of Etam. |
| 15:9 |
Then the Philistines went up, and encamped in Judah, and spread themselves in Lehi. |
| 15:10 |
AndThe the men of Judah said, Why arehave yeyou come up against us? AndThey they said, ToWe bindhave Samsoncome areup weto comebind upSamson, to do to him as he hathhas done to us. |
| 15:11 |
Then three thousand men of Judah went down to the cleftcave ofin theEtams rock of Etam, and said to Samson, KnowestDont thouyou notknow that the Philistines are rulers over us? whatWhat then is this that thouyou hasthave done untoto us? AndHe he said untoto them, As they did untoto me, so I have I done untoto them. |
| 15:12 |
AndThey they said untoto him, We arehave come down to bind theeyou, that we may deliver theeyou into the hand of the Philistines. And Samson said untoto them, Swear untoto me, that yeyou will not fallattack upon me yourselves. |
| 15:13 |
AndThey theyspoke spaketo unto him, saying, No;, but we will bind theeyou fast, securely and deliver theeyou into their hand:hands; but surely we will not kill theeyou. AndThey they bound him with two new ropes, and brought him up from the rock. |
| 15:14 |
When he came untoto Lehi, the Philistines shouted as they met him:. andThen theYahwehs Spirit of Jehovah came mightily uponon him, and the ropes that were uponon his arms became as flax that was burntburned with fire,; and his bands dropped from off his hands. |
| 15:15 |
AndHe he found a fresh jawbone of ana assdonkey, and put forthout his hand, and took it, and smotestruck a thousand men therewithwith it. |
| 15:16 |
And Samson said, With the jawbone of ana assdonkey, heaps uponon heaps,; Withwith the jawbone of ana assdonkey I have Istruck smitten a thousand men. |
| 15:17 |
