| 1:1 |
Now it came to pass in the days of Ahasuerus this is Ahasuerus who reigned from India even untoto Ethiopia, over aone hundred andtwenty seven and twenty provinces, |
| 1:2 |
that in those days, when the kingKing Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his kingdom, which was in ShushanSusa the palace, |
| 1:3 |
in the third year of his reign, he made a feast untofor all his princes and his servants; the powerarmy of Persia and Media, the nobles and princes of the provinces, being before him;. |
| 1:4 |
whenHe hedisplayed showed the riches of his glorious kingdom and the honor of his excellent majesty many days, even aone hundred andeighty fourscore days. |
| 1:5 |
AndWhen when these days were fulfilled, the king made a seven day feast untofor all the people thatwho were present in ShushanSusa the palace, both great and small, seven days, in the court of the garden of the kings palace. |
| 1:6 |
There were hangings of white cloth, of green, and ofblue bluematerial, fastened with cords of fine linen and purple to silver rings and marble pillars. ofThe marble: the couches were of gold and silver, uponon a pavement of red, and white, and yellow, and black marble. |
| 1:7 |
AndThey they gave them drinkdrinks in golden vessels of goldvarious the vessels being diverse one from anotherkinds, andincluding royal wine in abundance, according to the bounty of the king. |
| 1:8 |
AndIn theaccordance drinkingwith wasthe accordinglaw, to the law;drinking nonewas couldnot compel:compulsory; for so the king had appointedinstructed to all the officersofficials of his house, that they should do according to every mans pleasure. |
| 1:9 |
Also Vashti the queen made a feast for the women in the royal house which belonged to kingKing Ahasuerus. |
| 1:10 |
On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and CarcasCarcass, the seven chamberlainseunuchs thatwho ministeredserved in the presence of Ahasuerus the king, |
| 1:11 |
to bring Vashti the queen before the king withwearing the royal crown royal, to show the peoplespeople and the princes her beauty; for she was fair to look onbeautiful. |
| 1:12 |
But the queen Vashti refused to come at the kings commandment by the chamberlains:eunuchs. thereforeTherefore was the king was very wrothangry, and his anger burned in him. |
| 1:13 |
Then the king said to the wise men, who knew the times for soit was the kings mannercustom towardto allconsult thatthose who knew law and judgment; |
| 1:14 |
and the next untoto him were Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, who saw the kings face, and sat first in the kingdom, |
| 1:15 |
What shall we do untoto theQueen queen Vashti according to law, because she hathhas not done the bidding of the kingKing Ahasuerus by the chamberlainseunuchs? |
| 1:16 |
And Memucan answered before the king and the princes, Vashti the queen hathhas not done wrong to just the king only, but also to all the princes, and to all the peoplespeople thatwho are in all the provinces of the kingKing Ahasuerus. |
| 1:17 |
For this deed of the queen will comebecome abroadknown untoto all women, tocausing makethem theirto husbandsshow contemptiblecontempt infor their eyes, husbands when it shallis be reported, TheKing king Ahasuerus commanded Vashti the queen to be brought in before him, but she camedidnt notcome. |
| 1:18 |
AndToday, this day will the princesses of Persia and Media who have heard of the queens deed ofwill thetell queen say the like unto all the kings princes. SoThis will therecause arise much contempt and wrath. |
| 1:19 |
If it pleasepleases the king, let there go forth a royal commandment go from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, so that it cannot be not altered, that Vashti comemay nonever moreagain come before kingKing Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal estate untoto another thatwho is better than she. |
| 1:20 |
AndWhen when the kings decree which he shall make shallis be published throughout all his kingdom for it is great, all the wives will give to their husbands honor, both to great and small. |
| 1:21 |
AndThis theadvice saying pleased the king and the princes;, and the king did according to the word of Memucan: |
| 1:22 |
for he sent letters into all the kings provinces, into every province according to theits writing thereof, and to every people afterin their language, that every man should bear rule in his own house, andspeaking shouldin speak according to the language of his own people. |
| 2:1 |
After these things, when the wrath of kingKing Ahasuerus was pacified, he remembered Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against her. |
| 2:2 |
Then said the kings servants thatwho ministeredserved untohim himsaid, Let therebeautiful be fair young virgins be sought for the king:. |
| 2:3 |
andLet let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather together all the fairbeautiful young virgins untoto Shushan the palacecitadel of Susa, to the womens house of the women, untoto the custody of Hegai the kings chamberlaineunuch, keeper of the women;. andLet letcosmetics their things for purification be given them; |
| 2:4 |
and let the maiden thatwho pleasethpleases the king be queen instead of Vashti. AndThe the thing pleased the king;, and he did so. |
| 2:5 |
There was a certain Jew in Shushan the palace, citadel of Susa whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite, |
| 2:6 |
who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captives thatwho had been carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away. |
| 2:7 |
AndHe he brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncles daughter:; for she had neither father nor mother,. andThe the maiden was fair and beautiful; and when her father and mother were dead, Mordecai took her for his own daughter. |
| 2:8 |
So it came to pass, when the kings commandment and his decree was heard, and when many maidens were gathered together untoto Shushan the palacecitadel of Susa, to the custody of Hegai, that Esther was taken into the kings house, to the custody of Hegai, keeper of the women. |
| 2:9 |
AndThe the maiden pleased him, and she obtained kindness offrom him;. andHe hequickly speedily gave her hercosmetics thingsand forher purification, portions withof her portionsfood, and the seven choice maidens who were meet to be given her out of the kings house:. andHe hemoved removed her and her maidens to the best place ofin the womens house of the women. |
| 2:10 |
Esther had not made known her people nor her kindred;relatives, forbecause Mordecai had chargedinstructed her that she should not make it known. |
| 2:11 |
And Mordecai walked every day beforein front of the court of the womens house, to knowfind out how Esther didwas doing, and what would become of her. |
| 2:12 |
NowEach whenyoung thewomans turn ofcame every maiden was come to go in to kingKing Ahasuerus, after that it had been done to her accordingpurification to the law for the women twelve months for so were the days of their purificationspurification accomplished, to wit, six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with sweet odorsfragrances and with thepreparations things for thebeautifying purifying of the women,. |
| 2:13 |
thenThe inyoung thiswoman wisethen came to the maidenking untolike the kingthis: Whatsoeverwhatever she desired was given her to go with her out of the womens house ofto the women unto the kings house. |
| 2:14 |
In the evening she went, and on the morrownext day she returned into the second womens house of the women, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the kings chamberlaineunuch, who kept the concubines:. sheShe came in untoto the king no more, exceptunless the king delighted in her, and she werewas called by name. |
| 2:15 |
Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, wascame come to go in untoto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the kings chamberlaineunuch, the keeper of the women, appointedadvised. And Esther obtained favor in the sight of all themthose thatwho looked uponat her. |
| 2:16 |
So Esther was taken untoto kingKing Ahasuerus into his royal house royal in the tenth month, which is the month Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign. |
| 2:17 |
AndThe the king loved Esther abovemore than all the women, and she obtained favor and kindness in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown uponon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti. |
| 2:18 |
Then the king made a great feast untofor all his princes and his servants, even Esthers feast; and he madeproclaimed a releaseholiday toin the provinces, and gave gifts, according to the kings bounty of the king. |
| 2:19 |
AndWhen when the virgins were gathered together the second time, then Mordecai was sitting in the kings gate. |
| 2:20 |
Esther had not yet made known her kindredrelatives nor her people;, as Mordecai had chargedcommanded her:; for Esther didobeyed the commandment of Mordecai, like asshe did when she was brought up withby him. |
| 2:21 |
In those days, while Mordecai was sitting in the kings gate, two of the kings chamberlainseunuchs, Bigthan and Teresh, ofwho thosewere that kept the thresholddoorkeepers, were wrothangry, and sought to lay hands on the kingKing Ahasuerus. |
| 2:22 |
AndThis the thing became known to Mordecai, who showedinformed it unto Esther the queen; and Esther toldinformed the king thereof in Mordecais name. |
| 2:23 |
AndWhen whenthis inquisitionmatter was made of the matterinvestigated, and it was found to be so, they were both hanged on a tree:gallows; and it was written in the book of the chronicles beforein the kingkings presence. |
| 3:1 |
After these things didKing king Ahasuerus promotepromoted Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes thatwho were with him. |
| 3:2 |
AndAll all the kings servants, thatwho were in the kings gate, bowed down, and didpaid reverencehomage to Haman;, for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai boweddidnt notbow down, noror didpay him reverencehomage. |
| 3:3 |
Then the kings servants, thatwho were in the kings gate, said untoto Mordecai, Why transgressestdo thouyou disobey the kings commandment? |
| 3:4 |
Now it came to pass, when they spakespoke daily untoto him, and he hearkeneddidnt notlisten untoto them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecais mattersreason would stand:; for he had told them that he was a Jew. |
| 3:5 |
AndWhen when Haman saw that Mordecai boweddidnt notbow down, nor didpay him reverencehomage, thenHaman was Haman full of wrath. |
| 3:6 |
But he scorned the thought scornof tolaying lay hands on Mordecai alone;, for they had made known to him theMordecais people. ofTherefore Mordecai: wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews thatwho were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even theMordecais people of Mordecai. |
| 3:7 |
In the first month, which is the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of kingKing Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to month, toand chose the twelfth month, which is the month Adar. |
| 3:8 |
And Haman said untoto kingKing Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of thyyour kingdom;, and their laws are diversedifferent from thoseother ofpeoples. everyThey people;dont neither keep they the kings laws:. thereforeTherefore it is not for the kings profit to sufferallow them to remain. |
| 3:9 |
If it pleasepleases the king, let it be written that they be destroyed:; and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver into the hands of those thatwho haveare thein charge of the kings business, to bring it into the kings treasuries. |
| 3:10 |
AndThe the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it untoto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews enemy. |
| 3:11 |
AndThe the king said untoto Haman, The silver is given to theeyou, the people also, to do with them as it seemethseems good to theeyou. |
| 3:12 |
Then were the kings scribes were called in on the first month, on the thirteenth day thereofof the month; and there was written according to all that Haman commanded untowas written to the kings satrapslocal governors, and to the governors thatwho were over every province, and to the princes of every people, to every province according to theits writing thereof, and to every people afterin their language;. It was written in the name of kingKing Ahasuerus was it written, and it was sealed with the kings ring. |
| 3:13 |
AndLetters letters were sent by postscouriers into all the kings provinces, to destroy, to slaykill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even uponon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to takeplunder thetheir spoil of them for a preypossessions. |
| 3:14 |
A copy of the writingletter, that the decree should be given out in every province, was published untoto all the peoples, that they should be ready against that day. |
| 3:15 |
The postscouriers went forthout in haste by the kings commandment, and the decree was given out in Shushan the palacecitadel of Susa. AndThe the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city of ShushanSusa was perplexed. |
| 4:1 |
Now when Mordecai knewfound out all that was done, Mordecai renttore his clothes, and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midstmiddle of the city, and criedwailed withloudly a loud and a bitter cry;bitterly. |
| 4:2 |
andHe he came even before the kings gate:, for noneno mightone enteris withinallowed inside the kings gate clothed with sackcloth. |
| 4:3 |
AndIn in every province, whithersoeverwherever the kings commandment and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and wailing; and many lay in sackcloth and ashes. |
| 4:4 |
And Esthers maidens and her chamberlainseunuchs came and told it her; this, and the queen was exceedingly grieved:. andShe she sent raimentclothing to clothe Mordecai, and to takereplace his sackcloth, from off him; but he receiveddidnt receive it not. |
| 4:5 |
Then Esther called Esther for Hathach, one of the kings chamberlainseunuchs, whom he had appointed to attend upon her, and chargedcommanded him to go to Mordecai, to knowfind out what this was, and why it was. |
| 4:6 |
So Hathach went forthout to Mordecai, untoto the broadcity placesquare of the city, which was before the kings gate. |
| 4:7 |
And Mordecai told him of all that had happened untoto him, and the exact sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the kings treasuries for the Jews, destruction toof destroythe themJews. |
| 4:8 |
AlsoHe healso gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given out in ShushanSusa to destroy them, to show it untoto Esther, and to declare it untoto her, and to chargeurge her thatto she should go in untoto the king, to make supplication untoto him, and to make request before him, for her people. |
| 4:9 |
And Hathach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai. |
| 4:10 |
Then Esther spakespoke untoto Hathach, and gave him a message untoto Mordecai, saying: |
| 4:11 |
All the kings servants, and the people of the kings provinces, do know, that whosoeverwhoever, whether man or woman, shallcomes cometo unto the king into the inner court, whowithout isbeing not called, there is one law for him, that he be put to death, except those to whom the king shallmight hold out the golden sceptrescepter, that he may live:. but I have not been called to come in untoto the king these thirty days. |
| 4:12 |
AndThey they told Esthers words to Mordecai Esthers words. |
| 4:13 |
Then Mordecai badeasked them to return this answer untoto Esther,: ThinkDont notthink withto thyselfyourself that thouyou shaltwill escape in the kings house, any more than all the Jews. |
| 4:14 |
For if thouyou altogetherremain holdestsilent thy peace at this timenow, then will relief and deliverance arisewill come to the Jews from another place, but thouyou and thyyour fathers house will perish:. andWho whoknows knowethif whetheryou thouhavent art not come to the kingdom for such a time as this? |
| 4:15 |
Then Esther badeasked them returnto answer unto Mordecai, |
| 4:16 |
Go, gather together all the Jews thatwho are present in ShushanSusa, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day:. I also and my maidens will also fast inthe likesame manner;way. andThen soI will I go in untoto the king, which is notagainst according to the law:; and if I perish, I perish. |
| 5:1 |
Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, clothing and stood in the inner court of the kings house, overnext againstto the kings house:. andThe the king sat uponon his royal throne in the royal house, overnext againstto the entrance of the house. |
| 5:2 |
AndWhen it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favor in his sight; and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptrescepter that was in his hand. So Esther drewcame near, and touched the top of the sceptrescepter. |
| 5:3 |
Then said the king untoasked her, What wiltwould thouyou like, queen Esther? andWhat what is thyyour request? itIt shall be given theeyou even to the half of the kingdom. |
| 5:4 |
And Esther said, If it seemseems good untoto the king, let the king and Haman come thistoday dayto unto the banquet that I have prepared for him. |
| 5:5 |
Then the king said, CauseBring Haman toquickly, makeso haste, that it may be done as Esther hathhas said. So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared. |
| 5:6 |
AndThe the king said untoto Esther at the banquet of wine, What is thyyour petition? andIt it shall be granted thee:you. andWhat what is thyyour request? evenEven to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed. |
| 5:7 |
Then Esther answered Esther, and said, My petition and my request is: this. |
| 5:8 |
If I have found favor in the sight of the king, and if it pleasepleases the king to grant my petition, and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I shallwill prepare for them, and I will do totomorrow morrow as the king hathhas said. |
| 5:9 |
Then Haman went Hamanout forth that day joyful and glad of heart:, but when Haman saw Mordecai in the kings gate, that he stooddidnt notstand up nor movedmove for him, he was filled with wrath against Mordecai. |
| 5:10 |
Nevertheless Haman refrainedrestrained himself, and went home;. andThere, he sent and fetchedcalled for his friends and Zeresh his wife. |
| 5:11 |
And Haman recounted untoto them the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things whereinin which the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king. |
| 5:12 |
Haman also said moreover, YeaYes, Esther the queen did let no man come in with the king untoto the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and totomorrow morrowI also am Ialso invited by her together with the king. |
| 5:13 |
Yet all this availethavails me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the kings gate. |
| 5:14 |
Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends untosaid to him, Let a gallows be made fifty cubits high, and in the morning speak thouto unto the king thatabout hanging Mordecai mayon beit. hangedThen thereon: then go thou in merrily with the king untoto the banquet. AndThis the thing pleased Haman;, andso he causedhad the gallows to be made. |
| 6:1 |
On that night, could not the king couldnt sleep;. andHe he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles to be brought, and they were read beforeto the king. |
| 6:2 |
AndIt it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the kings chamberlainseunuchs, ofwho thosewere that kept the thresholddoorkeepers, who had soughttried to lay hands on the kingKing Ahasuerus. |
| 6:3 |
AndThe the king said, What honor and dignity hathhas been bestowedgiven onto Mordecai for this? Then said the kings servants thatwho ministeredattended untohim himsaid, ThereNothing ishas nothingbeen done for him. |
| 6:4 |
AndThe the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman washad come into the outwardouter court of the kings house, to speak untoto the king toabout hanghanging Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him. |
| 6:5 |
AndThe the kings servants said untoto him, Behold, Haman standethstands in the court. AndThe the king said, Let him come in. |
| 6:6 |
So Haman came in. AndThe the king said untoto him, What shall be done untoto the man whom the king delightethdelights to honor? Now Haman said in his heart, ToWho whom would the king delight to do honor more than to myself? |
| 6:7 |
And Haman said untoto the king, For the man whom the king delightethdelights to honor, |
| 6:8 |
let royal apparelclothing be brought which the king usethuses to wear, and the horse that the king ridethrides uponon, and on the head of which a royal crown royal is set:. |
| 6:9 |
andLet let the apparelclothing and the horse be delivered to the hand of one of the kings most noble princes, that they may array the man therewith whom the king delightethdelights to honor with them, and causehave him to ride on horseback through the streetcity of the citysquare, and proclaim before him, Thus it shall it be done to the man whom the king delightethdelights to honor.! |
| 6:10 |
Then the king said to Haman, MakeHurry haste, and take the apparelclothing and the horse, as thouyou hasthave said, and do eventhis sofor to Mordecai the Jew, thatwho sittethsits at the kings gate:. letLet nothing fail of all that thouyou hasthave spoken. |
| 6:11 |
Then Haman took Haman the apparelclothing and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and causedhad him to ride through the streetcity of the citysquare, and proclaimed before him, Thus it shall it be done untoto the man whom the king delightethdelights to honor.! |
| 6:12 |
And Mordecai came againback to the kings gate., Butbut Haman hastedhurried to his house, mourning and having his head covered. |
| 6:13 |
And Haman recounted untoto Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had befallenhappened to him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife untosaid to him, If Mordecai, before whom thouyou hasthave begun to fall, beis of theJewish seed of the Jewsdescent, thouyou shaltwill not prevail against him, but shaltyou will surely fall before him. |
| 6:14 |
While they were yet talking with him, came the kings chamberlainseunuchs came, and hastedhurried to bring Haman untoto the banquet that Esther had prepared. |
| 7:2 |
AndThe the king said again untoto Esther on the second day at the banquet of wine, What is thyyour petition, queen Esther? andIt it shall be granted thee:you. andWhat what is thyyour request? evenEven to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed. |
| 7:3 |
Then Esther the queen answered and said, If I have found favor in thyyour sight, O king, and if it pleasepleases the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request:. |
| 7:4 |
forFor we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for bondmenmale and bondwomenfemale slaves, I hadwould have held my peace, although the adversary could not have compensated for the kings damageloss. |
| 7:5 |
Then spakeKing the king Ahasuerus and said untoto Esther the queen, Who is he, and where is he, thatwho durstdared presume in his heart to do so? |
| 7:6 |
And Esther said, An adversary and an enemy, even this wicked Haman.! Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen. |
| 7:7 |
AndThe the king arose in his wrath from the banquet of wine and went into the palace garden:. and Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther the queen;, for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king. |
| 7:8 |
Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman washad fallen uponon the couch whereonwhere Esther was. Then said the king said, Will he even forceassault the queen beforein front of me in the house? As the word went out of the kings mouth, they covered Hamans face. |
| 7:9 |
Then said Harbonah, one of the chamberlainseunuchs thatwho were beforewith the king, said, Behold also, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman hathhas made for Mordecai, who spakespoke good for the king, standethis instanding theat Hamans house of Haman. AndThe the king said, Hang him thereon.on it! |
| 7:10 |
So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the kings wrath was pacified. |
| 8:1 |
On that day, didKing the king Ahasuerus givegave the house of Haman, the Jews enemy, untoto Esther the queen. And Mordecai came before the king; for Esther had told what he was untoto her. |
| 8:2 |
AndThe the king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it untoto Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman. |
| 8:3 |
And Esther spakespoke yet again before the king, and fell down at his feet, and besoughtbegged him with tears to put away the mischief of Haman the Agagite, and his deviceplan that he had devisedplanned against the Jews. |
| 8:4 |
Then the king held out to Esther the golden sceptrescepter. So Esther arose, and stood before the king. |
| 8:5 |
AndShe she said, If it pleasepleases the king, and if I have found favor in his sight, and the thing seemseems right beforeto the king, and I beam pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews thatwho are in all the kings provinces:. |
| 8:6 |
forFor how can I endure to see the evil that shallwould come untoto my people? orHow how can I endure to see the destruction of my kindredrelatives? |
| 8:7 |
Then theKing king Ahasuerus said untoto Esther the queen and to Mordecai the Jew, BeholdSee, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and him they have hanged uponhim on the gallows, because he laid his hand uponon the Jews. |
| 8:8 |
Write ye also to the Jews, as it pleasethpleases you, in the kings name, and seal it with the kings ring; for the writing which is written in the kings name, and sealed with the kings ring, may nonot be reversed by any man reverse. |
| 8:9 |
Then were the kings scribes were called at that time, in the third month, which is the month Sivan, on the threetwenty andthird twentieth day thereofof the month; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded untoto the Jews, and to the satrapslocal governors, and the governors and princes of the provinces which are from India untoto Ethiopia, aone hundred twenty and seven provinces, untoto every province according to theits writing thereof, and untoto every people afterin their language, and to the Jews accordingin to their writing, and accordingin to their language. |
| 8:10 |
AndHe he wrote in the name of kingKing Ahasuerus, and sealed it with the kings ring, and sent letters by postscourier on horseback, riding on swiftroyal steedshorses that were used in the kings service, bred offrom theswift stud:steeds. |
| 8:11 |
whereinIn those letters, the king granted the Jews thatwho were in every city to gather themselves together, and to standdefend for their life, lives—to destroy, to slaykill, and to cause to perish, all the power of the people and province that would assault them, their little ones and women, and to takeplunder thetheir spoil of them for a preypossessions, |
| 8:12 |
uponon one day in all the provinces of kingKing Ahasuerus, namely,on upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar. |
| 8:13 |
A copy of the writingletter, that the decree should be given out in every province, was published untoto all the peoples, and that the Jews should be ready againstfor that day to avenge themselves on their enemies. |
| 8:14 |
So the postscouriers thatwho rode uponon swiftroyal steedshorses that were used in the kings service went out, being hastened and pressed on by the kings commandment;. andThe the decree was given out in Shushan the palacecitadel of Susa. |
| 8:15 |
And Mordecai went forthout fromof the presence of the king in royal apparelclothing of blue and white, and with a great crown of gold, and with a robe of fine linen and purple:; and the city of ShushanSusa shouted and was glad. |
| 8:16 |
The Jews had light, and gladness, and joy, and honor. |
| 8:17 |
AndIn in every province, and in every city, whithersoeverwherever the kings commandment and his decree came, the Jews had gladness, and joy, a feast and a good dayholiday. AndMany many from among the peoples of the land became Jews;, for the fear of the Jews washad fallen uponon them. |
| 9:1 |
Now in the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the samemonth, when the kings commandment and his decree drewcame near to be put in execution, on the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to haveconquer rule over them, whereasbut it was turned toout that the contraryopposite happened, that the Jews hadconquered rulethose overwho them that hated them, |
| 9:2 |

| 9:13 |
Then Esther said Esther, If it pleasepleases the king, let it be granted to the Jews thatwho are in ShushanSusa to do totomorrow morrow also according untoto thistodays days decree, and let Hamans ten sons be hanged uponon the gallows. |

but when thethis matterbecame cameknown beforeto the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked deviceplan, which he had devisedplanned against the Jews, should return uponon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows. |
| 9:26 |
WhereforeTherefore they called these days Purim, afterfrom the nameword of Pur. Therefore because of all the words of this letter, and of that which they had seen concerning this matter, and that which had come untoto them, |
| 9:27 |
the Jews ordained, established and tookimposed uponon themthemselves, andon upon their seeddescendants, and uponon all suchthose aswho joined themselves untoto them, so that it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to thewhat writingwas thereof, written and according to theits appointed time thereof, every year; |

and that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor thetheir remembrancememory of them perish from their seedoffspring. |

| 10:3 |
For Mordecai the Jew was next untoto kingKing Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews, and accepted ofby the multitude of his brethrenbrothers, seeking the good of his people, and speaking peace to all his seeddescendants. |
