For, lobehold, he thatwho formethforms the mountains, andcreates createth the wind, anddeclares declarethto unto man what is his thought;, thatwho makethmakes the morning darkness, and treadethtreads uponon the high places of the earth—Jehovah: Yahweh, the God of hostsArmies, is his name. |
| 5:1 |
HearListen yeto this word which I take up for a lamentation over you, O house of Israel.: |
| 5:2 |
The virgin of Israel ishas fallen; sheShe shall rise no more. rise:She she is cast down uponon her land; there is noneno one to raise her up. |
| 5:3 |
For thus saith the Lord JehovahYahweh says: The city that went forthout a thousand shall have a hundred left, and that which went forthout aone hundred shall have ten left, to the house of Israel. |
| 5:4 |
For thusYahweh saithsays Jehovahto unto the house of Israel,: Seek ye me, and yeyou shallwill live; |
| 5:5 |
but dont seek not Beth elBethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and dont pass not to BeerBeersheba; sheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and BethBethel el shall come to noughtnothing. |
| 5:6 |
Seek JehovahYahweh, and yeyou shallwill live;, lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and it devour, and there be noneno one to quench it in Beth elBethel. |
| 5:7 |
YeYou who turn justice to wormwood, and cast down righteousness to the earth,! |
| 5:8 |
seekSeek him thatwho makethmade the Pleiades and Orion, and turnethturns the shadow of death into the morning, and makethmakes the day dark with night; thatwho callethcalls for the waters of the sea, and pourethpours them out uponon the facesurface of the earth, JehovahYahweh is his name;, |
| 5:9 |
thatwho bringethbrings sudden destruction uponon the strong, so that destruction comethcomes uponon the fortress. |
| 5:10 |
They hate him thatwho reprovethreproves in the gate, and they abhor him thatwho speakethspeaks uprightlyblamelessly. |
| 5:11 |
ForasmuchTherefore, thereforebecause asyou ye trample uponon the poor, and take exactionstaxes from him of wheat:, yeyou have built houses of hewncut stone, but yeyou shallwill not dwell in them;. yeYou have planted pleasant vineyards, but yeyou shall not drink thetheir wine thereof. |
| 5:12 |
For I know how manifoldmany are your transgressionsoffenses, and how mightygreat are your sins—ye thatyou who afflict the just, thatwho take a bribe, and thatwho turn asideaway the needy in the gate from their rightcourts. |
| 5:13 |
Therefore hea that is prudent shallperson keepkeeps silencesilent in such a time;, for it is an evil time. |
| 5:14 |
Seek good, and not evil, that yeyou may live; and so JehovahYahweh, the God of hostsArmies, will be with you, as yeyou say. |
| 5:15 |
Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish justice in the gate:courts. itIt may be that JehovahYahweh, the God of hostsArmies, will be gracious untoto the remnant of Joseph. |
| 5:16 |
Therefore thus saith JehovahYahweh, the God of hostsArmies, the Lord, says: Wailing shallwill be in all the broadwide ways;. andThey theywill shall say in all the streets, Alas! alasAlas! andThey theywill shall call the husbandmanfarmer to mourning, and suchthose aswho are skilfulskillful in lamentation to wailing. |

| 5:18 |
Woe untoto you thatwho desire the day of JehovahYahweh! WhereforeWhy woulddo yeyou havelong for the day of JehovahYahweh? It is darkness, and not light. |
| 5:19 |
As if a man didfled flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or he went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpentsnake bit him. |
| 5:20 |
ShallWont not the day of JehovahYahweh be darkness, and not light? evenEven very dark, and no brightness in it? |
| 5:21 |
I hate, I despise your feasts, and I willcant takestand no delight in your solemn assemblies. |
| 5:22 |
YeaYes, though yeyou offer me your burnt offerings and meal offerings, I will not accept them; neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beastsanimals. |
| 5:23 |
Take thou away from me the noise of thyyour songs;! for I will not hearlisten to the melodymusic of thyyour violsharps. |
| 5:24 |
But let justice roll downon aslike watersrivers, and righteousness aslike a mighty stream. |
| 5:25 |
Did yeyou bring untoto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel? |
| 5:26 |
Yea,You yealso havecarried borne the tabernacletent of your king and the shrine of your images, the star of your god, which yeyou made tofor yourselves. |
| 5:27 |
Therefore I will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saithsays JehovahYahweh, whose name is the God of hostsArmies. |
| 6:1 |
Woe to themthose thatwho are at ease in Zion, and to themthose thatwho are secure inon the mountain of Samaria, the notable men of the chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come! |
| 6:2 |
PassGo yeto unto Calneh, and see;. andFrom fromthere thence go ye to Hamath the great;. thenThen go down to Gath of the Philistines:. areAre they better than these kingdoms? orIs is their border greater than your border? |
| 6:3 |
—yeAlas thatfor you who put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;, |
| 6:4 |
thatwho lie uponon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves uponon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midstmiddle of the stall;, |
| 6:5 |
thatwho singstrum idleon songs to the soundstrings of thea viol;harp, thatwho invent for themselves instruments of music, like David; |
| 6:6 |
thatwho drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chiefbest oils;, but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph. |
| 6:7 |
Therefore shall they will now go captive with the first thatwho go captive;. andThe thefeasting revelryand oflounging themwill that stretched themselves shall pass awayend. |
| 6:8 |
The Lord JehovahYahweh hathhas sworn by himself, saithsays JehovahYahweh, the God of hostsArmies: I abhor the excellencypride of Jacob, and hatedetest his palaces;fortresses. thereforeTherefore I will I deliver up the city with all that is thereinin it. |
| 6:9 |
AndIt itwill shallhappen comethat to pass, if there remain ten men remain in one house, that they shallwill die. |
| 6:10 |
AndWhen when a mans unclerelative shallcarries take him up, even he thatwho burnethburns him, to bring outbodies the bones out of the house, and shallasks say unto him thatwho is in the innermost parts of the house, Is there yet any with theeyou? andAnd he shall saysays, No; then shall he will say, HoldHush! thyIndeed peace; for we maymust not make mention ofYahwehs the name of Jehovah. |
| 6:11 |
For, behold, JehovahYahweh commandethcommands, and the great house shallwill be smittensmashed withto breachespieces, and the little house withinto cleftsbits. |
| 6:12 |
ShallDo horses run uponon the rockrocky crags? willDoes one plow there with oxen? thatBut yeyou have turned justice into gallpoison, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood;bitterness, |
| 6:13 |
yeyou thatwho rejoice in a thing of noughtnothing, thatwho say, HaveHavent we not taken tofor usourselves horns by our own strength? |
| 6:14 |
For, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saithsays JehovahYahweh, the God of hostsArmies; and they shallwill afflict you from the entrance of Hamath untoto the brook of the Arabah. |
| 7:1 |
Thus the Lord JehovahYahweh showed me: and, behold, he formed locusts in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lobehold, it was the latter growth after the kings mowingsharvest. |
| 7:2 |
AndWhen it came to pass that, when they madefinished an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord JehovahYahweh, forgive, I beseechbeg thee:you! howHow shallcould Jacob stand? forFor he is small. |
| 7:3 |
JehovahYahweh repentedrelented concerning this:. It shall not be, saithsays JehovahYahweh. |
| 7:4 |
Thus the Lord JehovahYahweh showed me: and, behold, the Lord JehovahYahweh called tofor contendjudgment by fire; and it devoureddried up the great deep, and would have eatendevoured up the land. |
| 7:5 |
Then I said I, O Lord JehovahYahweh, ceasestop, I beseechbeg thee:you! howHow shallcould Jacob stand? forFor he is small. |
| 7:6 |
JehovahYahweh repentedrelented concerning this:. This also shall not be, saithsays the Lord JehovahYahweh. |
| 7:7 |

| 7:9 |
andThe the high places of Isaac shallwill be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shallwill be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword. |
| 7:10 |
Then Amaziah the priest of BethBethel el sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hathhas conspired against theeyou in the midstmiddle of the house of Israel:. theThe land is not able to bear all his words. |
| 7:11 |
For thus Amos saithsays, Jeroboam shallwill die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land. |
| 7:12 |
Also Amaziah also said untoto Amos, OYou thou seer, go, flee thou away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:, |
| 7:13 |
but dont prophesy not again any more at Beth elBethel; for it is the kings sanctuary, and it is a royal house.! |
| 7:14 |
Then answered Amos, andanswered said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophets son;, but I was a herdsman, and a dresserfarmer of sycomoresycamore trees:figs; |
| 7:15 |
and JehovahYahweh took me from following the flock, and JehovahYahweh said untoto me, Go, prophesy untoto my people Israel. |
| 7:16 |
Now therefore hearlisten thouto theYahwehs word of Jehovah: ThouYou sayestsay, ProphesyDont notprophesy against Israel, and dropdont notpreach thy word against the house of Isaac;. |
| 7:17 |
thereforeTherefore thusYahweh saith Jehovahsays: ThyYour wife shall be a harlotprostitute in the city, and thyyour sons and thyyour daughters shall fall by the sword, and thyyour land shall be divided by line; and thouyou thyselfyourself shaltshall die in a land that is unclean, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land. |
| 8:1 |
