| 1:1 |
The formerfirst treatisebook I madewrote, O Theophilus, concerningconcerned all that Jesus began both to do and to teach, |
| 1:2 |
until the day in which he was received up, after that he had given commandment through the Holy Spirit untoto the apostles whom he had chosen:. |
| 1:3 |
toTo whomthese he also showed himself alive after hishe passionsuffered, by many proofs, appearing untoto them byover thea spaceperiod of forty days, and speaking theabout thingsGods concerning the kingdom of God:Kingdom. |
| 1:4 |
and,Being being assembled together with them, he chargedcommanded them, notDont to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, saidyou he, ye heard from me:. |
| 1:5 |
forFor John indeed baptized within water;, but yeyou shallwill be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days hencefrom now. |
| 1:6 |
They thereforeTherefore, when they werehad come together, they asked him, saying, Lord, dostare thouyou atnow thisrestoring time restore the kingdom to Israel? |
| 1:7 |
AndHe he said untoto them, It isisnt not for you to know times or seasons, which the Father hathhas set within his own authority. |
| 1:8 |
But yeyou shallwill receive power, when the Holy Spirit ishas come upon you:. andYou yewill shall be my witnesses bothto me in Jerusalem, and in all JudaeaJudea and Samaria, and untoto the uttermost partparts of the earth. |
| 1:9 |
AndWhen when he had said these things, as they were looking, he was taken up;, and a cloud received him out of their sight. |
| 1:10 |
AndWhile while they were looking stedfastlysteadfastly into heaventhe sky as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;clothing, |
| 1:11 |
who also said, YeYou men of Galilee, why do you stand ye looking into heaventhe sky? thisThis Jesus, who was received up from you into heaventhe sky, shallwill so come back in likethe mannersame way as yeyou beheldsaw him going into heaventhe sky. |
| 1:12 |
Then they returned theyto unto Jerusalem from the mountmountain called Olivet, which is nighnear unto Jerusalem, a sabbathSabbath days journey offaway. |
| 1:13 |
AndWhen when they werehad come in, they went up into the upper chamber, room where they were abiding;staying, boththat is Peter, and John, and James, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James. |
| 1:14 |
TheseAll allthese with one accord continued stedfastlysteadfastly in prayer and supplication, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethrenbrothers. |
| 1:15 |
AndIn in these days, Peter stood up in the midstmiddle of the brethren, disciples and saidthe andnumber there was a multitude of personsnames gatheredwas together, about aone hundred twenty, and twentysaid, |
| 1:16 |
BrethrenBrothers, it was needfulnecessary that thethis scriptureScripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spakespoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was guide to themthose thatwho took Jesus. |
| 1:17 |
For he was numberedcounted amongwith us, and received his portion in this ministry. |
| 1:18 |
Now this man obtained a field with the reward offor his iniquitywickedness; and falling headlong, hehis body burst asunderopen in the midst, and all his bowelsintestines gushed out. |
| 1:19 |
AndIt it became known to alleveryone thewho dwellerslived atin Jerusalem; insomuch that in their language that field was called Akeldama, that is, The field of blood. |
| 1:20 |
For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be made desolate,. AndLet let no manone dwell therein:in it; and, HisLet officeanother lettake anotherhis takeoffice. |
| 1:21 |
Of the men therefore thatwho have companiedaccompanied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and went out among us, |
| 1:22 |
beginning from the baptism of John, untoto the day that he was received up from us, of these one must one become a witness with us of his resurrection. |
| 1:23 |
AndThey they put forward two,: Joseph called Barsabbas, who was surnamedalso called Justus, and Matthias. |
| 1:24 |
AndThey they prayed, and said, ThouYou, Lord, who knowestknow the hearts of all men, show which one of these two theyou onehave whom thou hast chosen, |
| 1:25 |
to take thepart place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas fell away, that he might go to his own place. |
| 1:26 |
AndThey theydrew gave lots for them;, and the lot fell uponon Matthias; and he was numberedcounted with the eleven apostles. |
| 2:1 |
AndNow when the day of Pentecost washad now come, they were all togetherwith one accord in one place. |
| 2:2 |
AndSuddenly suddenly there came from heaventhe sky a sound aslike of the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. |
| 2:3 |
AndTongues therelike fire appeared untoand themwere tonguesdistributed partingto asunderthem, like as of fire; and itone sat uponon each one of them. |
| 2:4 |
AndThey they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongueslanguages, as the Spirit gave them utterancethe ability to speak. |
| 2:5 |
Now there were dwelling atin Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaventhe sky. |
| 2:6 |
AndWhen when this sound was heard, the multitude came together, and were confoundedbewildered, because thateveryone every man heard them speaking in his own language. |
| 2:7 |
AndThey they were all amazed and marvelledmarveled, saying to one another, Behold, arearent not all these thatwho speak GalilaeansGalileans? |
| 2:8 |
AndHow howdo we hear we, everyeveryone man in our own native language wherein we were born? |
| 2:9 |
Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and thepeople dwellersfrom in Mesopotamia, inJudea, Judaea and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, |
| 2:10 |
in Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and the parts of Libya aboutaround Cyrene, andvisitors sojourners from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, |
| 2:11 |
Cretans and Arabians, —we hear them speaking in our tongueslanguages the mighty works of God.! |
| 2:12 |
AndThey they were all amazed, and were perplexed, saying to one to another, What meanethdoes this mean? |
| 2:13 |
ButOthers, others mocking, said, They are filled with new wine. |
| 2:14 |
But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spakespoke forthout untoto them, saying,You Ye men of Judaea,Judea and all yeyou thatwho dwell at Jerusalem, belet this be known untoto you, and givelisten earto unto my words. |
| 2:15 |
For these arearent not drunken, as yeyou suppose;, seeing it is butonly the third hour of the day;. |
| 2:16 |
butBut this is thatwhat whichhas hath been spoken through the prophet Joel: |
| 2:17 |
AndIt itwill shall be in the last days, saithsays God, that I will pour forthout of my Spirit uponon all flesh:. AndYour your sons and your daughters shallwill prophesy,. AndYour your young men shallwill see visions,. AndYour your old men shallwill dream dreams:. |
| 2:18 |
YeaYes, and on my servants and on my handmaidens in those days, Will I will pour forthout of my Spirit;, and they shallwill prophesy. |
| 2:19 |
And I will show wonders in the heavensky above, Andand signs on the earth beneath;: Bloodblood, and fire, and vaporbillows of smoke:. |
| 2:20 |
The sun shallwill be turned into darkness, Andand the moon into blood, Beforebefore the great and glorious day of the Lord come, That great and notable day:comes. |
| 2:21 |
AndIt itwill shall be, that whosoeverwhoever shallwill call on the name of the Lord shallwill be saved. |
| 2:22 |
YeMen men of Israel, hear these words:! Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved ofby God untoto you by mighty works and wonders and signs which God did by him inamong the midst of you, even as yeyou yourselves know;, |
| 2:23 |
him, being delivered up by the determinatedetermined counsel and foreknowledge of God, yeyou have taken by the hand of lawless men, didcrucified crucify and slay:killed; |
| 2:24 |
whom God raised up, having loosedfreed him from the pangsagony of death:, because it was not possible that he should be holdenheld ofby it. |
| 2:25 |
For David saithsays concerning him, I beheldsaw the Lord always before my face;, Forfor he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:. |
| 2:26 |
Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced;. Moreover my flesh also shallwill dwell in hope:, |
| 2:27 |
Becausebecause thouyou wiltwill not leave my soul untoin Hades, Neitherneither wiltwill thouyou giveallow thyyour Holy One to see corruptiondecay. |
| 2:28 |
ThouYou madestmade known untoto me the ways of life;. ThouYou shaltwill make me full of gladness with thyyour countenancepresence. |
| 2:29 |
BrethrenBrothers, I may saytell unto you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us untoto this day. |
| 2:30 |
BeingTherefore, thereforebeing a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loinsbody, according to the flesh, he would setraise oneup uponthe Christ to sit on his throne;, |
| 2:31 |
he foreseeing this, spakespoke ofabout the resurrection of the Christ, that neitherhis wassoul hewasnt left untoin Hades, norand did his flesh didnt see corruptiondecay. |
| 2:32 |
This Jesus did God raiseraised up, whereofto which we all are witnesses. |
| 2:33 |
Being therefore exalted by the right hand of God exalted, and having received offrom the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he hathhas poured forthout this, which yeyou now see and hear. |
| 2:34 |
For David ascendeddidnt notascend into the heavens:, but he saithsays himself, The Lord said untoto my Lord, Sit thouby on my right hand, |
| 2:35 |
Tilluntil I make thineyour enemies thea footstool offor thyyour feet. |
| 2:36 |
Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly, certainly that God hathhas made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom yeyou crucified. |
| 2:37 |
Now when they heard this, they were prickedcut into theirthe heart, and said untoto Peter and the rest of the apostles, BrethrenBrothers, what shall we do? |
| 2:38 |
And Peter said untoto them, Repent ye, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ untofor the remissionforgiveness of your sins;, and yeyou shallwill receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. |
| 2:39 |
For tothe youpromise is theto promise, you and to your children, and to all thatwho are afarfar off, even as many as the Lord our God shallwill call untoto himhimself. |
| 2:40 |
AndWith with many other words he testified, and exhorted them, saying, Save yourselves from this crooked generation.! |
| 2:41 |
TheyThen thenthose thatwho gladly received his word were baptized:. andThere there were added unto them in that day about three thousand souls. |
| 2:42 |
AndThey they continued stedfastlysteadfastly in the apostles teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and the prayersprayer. |
| 2:43 |
AndFear fear came uponon every soul:, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. |
| 2:44 |
AndAll allwho that believed were together, and had all things in common;. |
| 2:45 |
andThey they sold their possessions and goods, and parteddistributed them to all, according as anyanyone man had need. |
| 2:46 |
AndDay day by day, continuing stedfastlysteadfastly with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread at home, they took their food with gladness and singleness of heart, |
| 2:47 |
praising God, and having favor with all the people. AndThe the Lord added to themthe assembly day by day those thatwho were being saved. |
| 3:1 |
Now Peter and John were going up into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. |
| 3:2 |
AndA a certain man thatwho was lame from his mothers womb was being carried, whom they laid daily at the door of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask almsgifts for the needy of themthose thatwho entered into the temple;. |
| 3:3 |
whoSeeing seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive angifts almsfor the needy. |
| 3:4 |
And Peter, fastening his eyes uponon him, with John, said, Look onat us. |
| 3:5 |
AndHe helistened gaveto heed unto them, expecting to receive something from them. |
| 3:6 |
But Peter said, SilverI andhave goldno havesilver Ior none;gold, but what I have, that I give I theeyou. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk.! |
| 3:7 |
AndHe he took him by the right hand, and raised him up:. andImmediately immediately his feet and his ankle bones received strength. |
| 3:8 |
AndLeaping leaping up, he stood, and began to walk;. andHe he entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. |
| 3:9 |
AndAll all the people saw him walking and praising God:. |
| 3:10 |
andThey theyrecognized took knowledge of him, that it was he thatwho satused to sit begging for almsgifts for the needy at the Beautiful Gate of the temple;. andThey they were filled with wonder and amazement at thatwhat which had happened untoto him. |
| 3:11 |
AndAs asthe helame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all the people ran together untoto them in the porch that is called Solomons, greatly wondering. |
| 3:12 |
AndWhen when Peter saw it, he answeredresponded untoto the people, YeYou men of Israel, why do you marvel ye at this man? orWhy whydo you fasten ye your eyes on us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made him to walk? |
| 3:13 |
The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hathhas glorified his Servant Jesus;, whom yeyou delivered up, and denied beforein the facepresence of Pilate, when he had determined to release him. |
| 3:14 |
But yeyou denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted untoto you, |
| 3:15 |
and killed the Prince of life;, whom God raised from the dead;, whereofto which we are witnesses. |
| 3:16 |
AndBy by faith in his name, hath his name has made this man strong, whom yeyou beholdsee and know:. yeaYes, the faith which is through him hathhas given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. |
| 3:17 |
And nowNow, brethrenbrothers, I know that inyou ignorancedid yethis didin itignorance, as did also your rulers. |
| 3:18 |
But the things which God foreshowedannounced by the mouth of all thehis prophets, that his Christ should suffer, he thus fulfilled. |
| 3:19 |
Repent ye therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that so there may come seasonstimes of refreshing from the presence of the Lord;, |
| 3:20 |
and that he may send the Christ Jesus, who hathwas beenordained appointed for you before, even Jesus: |
| 3:21 |
whom the heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, whereofwhich God spakespoke long ago by the mouth of his holy prophets that have been from of old. |
| 3:22 |
For Moses indeed said, Ato prophetthe shallfathers, theThe Lord God will raise up untoa prophet for you from among your brethrenbrothers, like unto me;. toYou him shall yelisten hearkento him in all things whatsoeverwhatever he shallsays speakto unto you. |
| 3:23 |
AndIt itwill shall be, that every soul that shallwill not hearkenlisten to that prophet, shallwill be utterly destroyed from among the people. |
| 3:24 |
YeaYes, and all the prophets from Samuel and themthose thatwho followed after, as many as have spoken, they also told of these days. |
| 3:25 |
YeYou are the sonschildren of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with yourour fathers, saying untoto Abraham, AndAll in thy seed shall all the families of the earth will be blessed through your offspring. |
| 3:26 |
Unto you first God, having raised up his Servantservant Jesus, sent him to you first to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquitieswickedness. |
| 4:1 |
AndAs as they spakespoke untoto the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came uponto them, |
| 4:2 |
being soreupset troubled because they taught the people, and proclaimed in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. |
| 4:3 |
AndThey they laid hands on them, and put them in wardcustody untountil the morrow:next day, for it was now eventideevening. |
| 4:4 |
But many of themthose thatwho heard the word believed;, and the number of the men came to be about five thousand. |
| 4:5 |
AndIn it came to pass on the morrowmorning, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem;. |
| 4:6 |
and Annas the high priest was there, andwith Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were ofrelatives the kindred of the high priest. |
| 4:7 |
AndWhen when they had setstood themPeter and John in the midstmiddle of them, they inquired, By what power, or in what name, have yeyou done this? |
| 4:8 |
Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said untoto them, YeYou rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, |
| 4:9 |
if we this day are examined today concerning a good deed done to ana impotentcrippled man, by what means this man ishas madebeen whole;healed, |
| 4:10 |
bemay it be known untoto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom yeyou crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even in him doth this man standstands here before you whole in him. |
| 4:11 |
He is the stone which was setregarded atas noughtworthless ofby you, the builders, which washas madebecome the head of the corner. |
| 4:12 |
AndThere inis nonesalvation otherin isno thereone salvation:else, for neitherthere is thereno any other name under heaven, that is given among men, whereinby which we must be saved.! |
| 4:13 |
Now when they beheldsaw the boldness of Peter and John, and had perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled;marveled. andThey theyrecognized took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. |
| 4:14 |
AndSeeing seeing the man thatwho was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. |
| 4:16 |
saying, What shall we do to these men? forBecause that indeed a notable miracle hathhas been wroughtdone through them, isas manifestcan tobe plainly seen by all thatwho dwell in Jerusalem;, and we cannotcant deny it. |
| 4:17 |
But so that itthis spreadspreads no further among the people, letlets us threaten them, that from now on they dont speak henceforth to noanyone man in this name. |
| 4:18 |
AndThey they called them, and chargedcommanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. |
| 4:19 |
But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it is right in the sight of God to hearkenlisten untoto you rather than untoto God, judge ye:for yourselves, |
| 4:20 |
for we cannotcant buthelp speaktelling the things which we saw and heard. |
| 4:21 |
AndWhen they, when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothingno howway theyto might punish them, because of the people; for alleveryone men glorified God for that which was done. |
| 4:22 |
For the man was more than forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was wroughtperformed was more than forty years old. |
| 4:23 |
AndBeing being let go, they came to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said untoto them. |
| 4:24 |
AndWhen they, when they heard it, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, O Lord, thouyou thatare didstGod, makewho made the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and all that is in them is:; |
| 4:25 |
who by the Holy Spirit, by the mouth of ouryour fatherservant David thy servant, didst saysaid, Why diddo the Gentilesnations rage, Andand the peoples imagineplot a vain thingsthing? |
| 4:26 |
The kings of the earth settake themselvesa in arraystand, Andand the rulers wereplot gathered together, Againstagainst the Lord, and against his Anointed:Christ. |
| 4:27 |
forFor of a truth in this city against thy holy Servant Jesustruly, whom thou didst anoint, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoplespeople of Israel, were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, |
| 4:28 |
to do whatsoeverwhatever thyyour hand and thyyour councilcounsel foreordained to come to passhappen. |
| 4:29 |
And nowNow, Lord, look uponat their threatenings:threats, and grant untoto thyyour servants to speak thyyour word with all boldness, |
| 4:30 |
while thouyou stretcheststretch forthout thyyour hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of thyyour holy Servant Jesus. |
| 4:31 |
AndWhen when they had prayed, the place was shaken whereinwhere they were gathered together;. andThey they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spakespoke the word of God with boldness. |
| 4:32 |
AndThe the multitude of themthose thatwho believed were of one heart and soul:. andNot not one of them saidclaimed that aughtanything of the things which he possessed was his own;, but they had all things in common. |
| 4:33 |
AndWith with great power, gave the apostles gave their witnesstestimony of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus:. andGreat great grace was uponon them all. |
| 4:34 |
For neither was there among them any thatwho lacked:, for as many as were possessorsowners of lands or houses sold them, and brought the pricesproceeds of the things that were sold, |
| 4:35 |
and laid them at the apostles feet:; and distribution was made untoto each, according as anyanyone one had need. |
| 4:36 |
And JosephJoses, who by the apostles was surnamedalso called Barnabas which is, being interpreted, Son of exhortationEncouragement, a Levite, a man of Cyprus by race, |
| 4:37 |
having a field, sold it, and brought the money and laid it at the apostles feet. |
| 5:2 |
and kept back part of the price, his wife also being privyaware toof it, andthen brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles feet. |
| 5:3 |
But Peter said, Ananias, why hathhas Satan filled thyyour heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land? |
| 5:4 |
While you kept it remained, diddidnt it not remain thineyour own? andAfter after it was sold, waswasnt it not in thyyour power? How is it that thouyou hasthave conceived this thing in thyyour heart? thouYou hasthavent not lied untoto men, but untoto God. |
| 5:5 |
And Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and gavedied. upGreat the ghost: and great fear came uponon all thatwho heard itthese things. |
| 5:6 |
AndThe the young men arose and wrapped him roundup, and they carried him out and buried him. |
| 5:7 |
AndAbout it was about the space of three hours afterlater, when his wife, not knowing what washad donehappened, came in. |
| 5:8 |
And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether yeyou sold the land for so much. AndShe she said, YeaYes, for so much. |
| 5:9 |
But Peter saidasked unto her, How is it that yeyou have agreed together to trytempt the Spirit of the Lord? beholdBehold, the feet of themthose thatwho have buried thyyour husband are at the door, and they shallwill carry theeyou out. |
| 5:10 |
AndShe she fell down immediately at his feet, and gavedied. upThe the ghost: and the young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her by her husband. |
| 5:11 |
AndGreat great fear came uponon the whole churchassembly, and uponon all thatwho heard these things. |
| 5:12 |
AndBy by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wroughtwere done among the people:. andThey they were all with one accord in Solomons porch. |
| 5:13 |
ButNone of the rest durstdared noto man join himself to them:; howbeithowever, the people magnifiedhonored them;. |
| 5:14 |
andMore believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes of both of men and women:. |
| 5:15 |
insomuchThey that they even carried out the sick into the streets, and laid them on bedscots and couchesmattresses, so that, as Peter came by, at the least his shadow might overshadow some one of them. |
| 5:16 |
AndThe theremultitude also came together the multitude from the cities roundaround about Jerusalem, bringing sick folk, people and themthose thatwho were vexedtormented withby unclean spirits:; and they were all healed every one. |
| 5:17 |
But the high priest rose up, and all theythose thatwho were with him which is the sect of the Sadducees, and they were filled with jealousy, |
| 5:18 |
and laid hands on the apostles, andthen put them in public wardcustody. |
| 5:19 |
But an angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors by night, and brought them out, and said, |
| 5:20 |
Go ye, and stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this Lifelife. |
| 5:21 |
AndWhen when they heard this, they entered into the temple about daybreak, and taught. But the high priest came, and theythose thatwho were with him, came and called the council together, andwith all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison house to have them brought. |
| 5:22 |
But the officers thatwho came founddidnt find them not in the prison;. andThey they returned, and toldreported, |
| 5:23 |
saying,We Thefound the prison house we found shut inand all safetylocked, and the keepersguards standing atbefore the doors:, but when we hadopened openedthem, we found no manone within.inside! |
| 5:24 |
Now when the high priest, the captain of the temple, and the chief priests heard these words, they were muchvery perplexed concerningabout them whereuntoand thiswhat wouldmight growbecome of this. |
| 5:25 |
AndOne there came one and told them, Behold, the men whom yeyou put in the prison are in the temple, standing and teaching the people. |
| 5:26 |
Then went the captain went with the officers, and brought them, but without violence;, for they fearedwere afraid that the people, lestmight theystone should be stonedthem. |
| 5:27 |
AndWhen when they had brought them, they set them before the council. AndThe the high priest askedquestioned them, |
| 5:28 |
saying, WeDidnt we strictly chargedcommand you not to teach in this name:? and beholdBehold, yeyou have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this mans blood uponon us. |
| 5:29 |
But Peter and the apostles answered and said, We must obey God rather than men. |
| 5:30 |
The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom yeyou slewkilled, hanging him on a tree. |
| 5:31 |
HimGod didexalted Godhim exalt with his right hand to be a Prince and a SaviourSavior, to give repentance to Israel, and remission of sins. |
| 5:32 |
AndWe we are his witnesses of these things; and so also is the Holy Spirit, whom God hathhas given to themthose thatwho obey him. |
| 5:33 |
But they, when they heard this, were cut to the heart, and were mindeddetermined to slaykill them. |
| 5:34 |
But thereone stood up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctorteacher of the law, hadhonored inby honor of all the people, and commanded to put the menapostles forthout for a little while. |
| 5:35 |
AndHe he said untoto them, YeYou men of Israel, takebe heedcareful toconcerning yourselves as touching these men, what yeyou are about to do. |
| 5:36 |
For before these days Theudas rose up Theudas, givingmaking himself out to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves:. whoHe was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were dispersed, and came to noughtnothing. |
| 5:37 |
After this man, rose up Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the enrolmentenrollment, and drew away some of the people after him:. heHe also perished;, and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered abroad. |
| 5:38 |
AndNow now I saytell unto you, Refrainwithdraw from these men, and letleave them alone:. forFor if this counsel or this work beis of men, it will be overthrown:. |
| 5:39 |
butBut if it is of God, yeyou will not be able to overthrow them;it, lestand haplyyou yewould be found even to be fighting against God.! |
| 5:40 |
AndThey to him they agreed: andwith whenhim. theySummoning had called the apostles unto them, they beat them and chargedcommanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. |
| 5:41 |
They therefore departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for theJesus Namename. |
| 5:42 |
AndEvery every day, in the temple and at home, they ceasednever notstopped toteaching teach and topreaching preach Jesus, as the Christ. |
| 6:1 |
Now in thesethose days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, therea complaint arose afrom murmuring of the GrecianHellenists Jews against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministrationservice. |
| 6:2 |
AndThe the twelve calledsummoned the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not fitappropriate thatfor weus shouldto forsake the word of God, and serve tables. |
| 6:3 |
Look ye out thereforeTherefore, brethren, select from among you, brothers, seven men of good report, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. |
| 6:4 |
But we will continue stedfastlysteadfastly in prayer, and in the ministry of the word. |
| 6:5 |
AndThese thewords saying pleased the whole multitude:. andThey they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch;, |
| 6:6 |
whom they set before the apostles:. andWhen when they had prayed, they laid their hands uponon them. |
| 6:7 |
AndThe the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples greatly multiplied in Jerusalem. exceedingly;A and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith. |
| 6:8 |
And Stephen, full of gracefaith and power, wroughtperformed great wonders and signs among the people. |
| 6:9 |
But theresome arose certain of themthose thatwho were of the synagogue called theThe synagogue of the Libertines, and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of themthose of Cilicia and Asia arose, disputing with Stephen. |
| 6:10 |
AndThey theywerent were not able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spakespoke. |
| 6:11 |
Then they subornedsecretly induced men, whoto saidsay, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God. |
| 6:12 |
AndThey they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came uponagainst him, and seized him, andthen brought him intoin to the council, |
| 6:13 |
and set up false witnesses, who said, This man ceasethnever notstops tospeaking speakblasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:. |
| 6:14 |
forFor we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shallwill destroy this place, and shallwill change the customs which Moses delivered untoto us. |
| 6:15 |
AndAll allwho that sat in the council, fastening their eyes on him, saw his face aslike it hadwas been the face of an angel. |
| 7:1 |
AndThe the high priest said, Are these things so? |
| 7:2 |
AndHe he said, BrethrenBrothers and fathers, hearken:listen. The God of glory appeared untoto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dweltlived in Haran, |
| 7:3 |
and said untoto him, Get thee out of thyyour land, and away from thyyour kindredrelatives, and come into thea land which I shallwill show theeyou. |
| 7:4 |
Then he came he out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dweltlived in Haran:. andFrom from thencethere, when his father was dead, God removedmoved him into this land, whereinwhere yeyou are now dwell:living. |
| 7:5 |
andHe he gave him noneno inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on:. andHe he promised that he would give it to him infor a possession, and to his seedoffspring after him, when ashe yetstill he had no child. |
| 7:6 |
And God spakespoke onin this wise, way: that his seedoffspring shouldwould sojournlive as aliens in a strange land, and that they shouldwould bringbe themenslaved into bondage, and treatmistreated themfor ill, four hundred years. |
| 7:7 |
AndI will judge the nation to which they shallwill be in bondage will I judge, said God:, and after that shall they will come forth, out and serve me in this place. |
| 7:8 |
AndHe he gave him the covenant of circumcision:. andSo so Abraham begatbecame the father of Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day;. and Isaac begatbecame the father of Jacob, and Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs. |
| 7:9 |
AndThe the patriarchs, moved with jealousy against Joseph, sold him into Egypt:. and God was with him, |
| 7:10 |
and delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favor and wisdom before Pharaoh, king of Egypt;. andHe he made him governor over Egypt and all his house. |
| 7:11 |
Now there came a famine came over all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and great affliction:. andOur our fathers found no sustenancefood. |
| 7:12 |
But when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent forthout our fathers the first time. |
| 7:13 |
AndOn at the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren;brothers, and Josephs racefamily becamewas manifestrevealed untoto Pharaoh. |
| 7:14 |
And Joseph sent, and calledsummoned to him Jacob his father, and all his kindredrelatives, threescoreseventy andfive fifteen souls. |
| 7:15 |
And Jacob went down into Egypt; and he died, himself and our fathers; |
| 7:16 |
and they were carriedbrought overback untoto Shechem, and laid in the tomb that Abraham bought for a price in silver offrom the sonschildren of Hamor inof Shechem. |
| 7:17 |
But as the time of the promise drewcame nighclose which God vouchsafedhad untosworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt, |
| 7:18 |
tilluntil there arose anothera different king over Egypt, who knewdidnt notknow Joseph. |
| 7:19 |
The same dealttook craftilyadvantage withof our race, and illmistreated treated our fathers, thatand theyforced shouldthem castto outabandon their babesbabies, toso thethat end they mightwouldnt notstay livealive. |
| 7:20 |
At whichthat seasontime Moses was born, and was exceedingexceedingly fair;handsome andto heGod. He was nourished three months in his fathers house:. |
| 7:21 |
andWhen when he was cast outabandoned, Pharaohs daughter took him up, and nourishedreared him foras her own son. |
| 7:22 |
And Moses was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians;. andHe he was mighty in his words and works. |
| 7:23 |
But when he was well nigh forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethrenbrothers, the children of Israel. |
| 7:24 |
AndSeeing seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him thatwho was oppressed, smitingstriking the Egyptian:. |
| 7:25 |
andHe he supposed that his brethrenbrothers understood that God, by his hand, was giving them deliverance; but they understooddidnt notunderstand. |
| 7:26 |
AndThe the day following, he appeared untoto them as they strovefought, and wouldurged havethem setto thembe at onepeace again, saying, Sirs, yeyou are brethren;brothers. whyWhy do yeyou wrong one to another? |
| 7:27 |
But he thatwho did his neighbor wrong thrustpushed him away, saying, Who made theeyou a ruler and a judge over us? |
| 7:28 |
WouldestDo thouyou want to kill me, as thouyou killedstkilled the Egyptian yesterday? |
| 7:29 |
And Moses fled at this saying, and became a sojournerstranger in the land of Midian, where he begatbecame the father of two sons. |
| 7:30 |
AndWhen when forty years were fulfilled, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in the wilderness of mountMount Sinai, in a flame of fire in a bush. |
| 7:31 |
AndWhen when Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight:. andAs as he drewcame nearclose to beholdsee, therethe came a voice of the Lord came to him, |
| 7:32 |
I am the God of thyyour fathers,: the God of Abraham, andthe God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses trembled, and durstdared not beholdlook. |
| 7:33 |
AndThe the Lord said untoto him, LooseTake theoff shoesyour fromsandals, thy feet: for the place whereonwhere thouyou standeststand is holy ground. |
| 7:34 |
I have surely seen the affliction of my people thatwho isare in Egypt, and have heard their groaning,. and I amhave come down to deliver them:. andNow now come, I will send theeyou into Egypt. |
| 7:35 |
This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made theeyou a ruler and a judge??—God himhas hath God sent tohim beas both a ruler and a deliverer withby the hand of the angel thatwho appeared to him in the bush. |
| 7:36 |
This man led them forthout, having wroughtworked wonders and signs in Egypt, and in the Red seaSea, and in the wilderness for forty years. |
| 7:37 |
This is that Moses, who said untoto the children of Israel, AThe prophetLord shallour God will raise up untoa prophet for you from among your brethrenbrothers, like unto me. |
| 7:38 |
This is he thatwho was in the churchassembly in the wilderness with the angel that spakespoke to him inon theMount mount Sinai, and with our fathers:, who received living oraclesrevelations to give untoto us:, |
| 7:39 |
to whom our fathers wouldwouldnt not be obedient, but thrustrejected him from them, and turned back in their hearts untoto Egypt, |
| 7:40 |
saying untoto Aaron, Make us gods that shallwill go before us:, for as for this Moses, who led us forth out of the land of Egypt, we dont know not what ishas become of him. |
| 7:41 |
AndThey they made a calf in those days, and brought a sacrifice untoto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their hands. |
| 7:42 |
But God turned, away and gave them up to serve the hostarmy of heaven;the sky, as it is written in the book of the prophets, Did yeyou offer untoto me slain beastsanimals and sacrifices Fortyforty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel? |
| 7:43 |
AndYou ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, And the star of theyour god Rephan, Thethe figures which yeyou made to worship, them:so And I will carry you away beyond Babylon. |
| 7:44 |
Our fathers had the tabernacle of the testimony in the wilderness, even as he appointed who spakespoke untoto Moses, thatcommanded hehim shouldto make it according to the figurepattern that he had seen.; |
| 7:45 |
Whichwhich also our fathers, in their turn, brought in with Joshua when they entered oninto the possession of the nations, thatwhom God thrustdrove out before the face of our fathers, untoto the days of David;, |
| 7:48 |
HowbeitHowever, the Most High dwellethdoesnt notdwell in housestemples made with hands;, as saith the prophet says, |
| 7:49 |
The heaven is my throne, Andand the earth thea footstool offor my feet:. What mannerkind of house will yeyou build me? saithsays the Lord:. Or what is the place of my rest? |
| 7:50 |
DidDidnt not my hand make all these things? |
| 7:51 |
YeYou stiffneckedstiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, yeyou do always resist the Holy Spirit:! asAs your fathers did, so you do ye. |
| 7:52 |
Which of the prophets diddidnt not your fathers persecute? andThey they killed themthose thatwho showedforetold before of the coming of the Righteous One;, of whom yeyou have now become betrayers and murderers;. |
| 7:53 |
yeYou who received the law as it was ordained by angels, and keptdidnt keep it not.! |
| 7:54 |
Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed onat him with their teeth. |
| 7:55 |
But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked up stedfastlysteadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, |
| 7:56 |
and said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of manMan standing onat the right hand of God.! |
| 7:57 |
But they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, andthen rushed uponat him with one accord;. |
| 7:58 |
andThey theythrew cast him out of the city, and stoned him:. andThe the witnesses laidplaced down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. |
| 7:59 |
AndThey they stoned Stephen, callingas uponhe thecalled Lordout, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.! |
| 7:60 |
AndHe he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, laydont nothold this sin toagainst theirthem! charge. When And when he had said this, he fell asleep. |
| 8:1 |
And Saul was consenting untoto his death. AndA there arose on that day a great persecution arose against the churchassembly which was in Jerusalem; andin theythat day. They were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of JudaeaJudea and Samaria, except for the apostles. |
| 8:2 |
AndDevout devout men buried Stephen, and madelamented greatgreatly lamentation over him. |
| 8:3 |
But Saul laidravaged waste the churchassembly, entering into every house, and draggingdragged both men and women committedoff them to prison. |
| 8:4 |
TheyTherefore thereforethose thatwho were scattered abroad went aboutaround preaching the word. |
| 8:5 |
And Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and proclaimed untoto them the Christ. |
| 8:6 |
AndThe the multitudes gavelistened heed with one accord untoto the things that were spoken by Philip, when they heard, and saw the signs which he did. |
| 8:7 |
For fromunclean spirits came out of many of those thatwho had uncleanthem. spirits,They they came out, crying with a loud voice:. andMany manywho thathad werebeen palsied, paralyzed and that were lame, were healed. |
| 8:8 |
AndThere there was muchgreat joy in that city. |
| 8:9 |
But there was a certain man, Simon by name, who beforetimeused to practice sorcery in the city used sorcery, and amazed the people of Samaria, givingmaking himself out thatto himselfbe was some great one:, |
| 8:10 |
to whom they all gave heedlistened, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is that great power of God which is called Great. |
| 8:11 |
AndThey theylistened gave heed to him, because thatfor ofa long time he had amazed them with his sorceries. |
| 8:12 |
But when they believed Philip preaching good tidingsnews concerning theGods kingdomKingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. |
| 8:13 |
And Simon himself also himself believed:. andBeing being baptized, he continued with Philip;. andSeeing beholding signs and great miracles wroughtoccurring, he was amazed. |
| 8:14 |
Now when the apostles thatwho were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: to them, |
| 8:15 |
who, when they werehad come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit:; |
| 8:16 |
for as yet ithe washad fallen uponon none of them:. onlyThey they had only been baptized intoin the name of theChrist Lord Jesus. |
| 8:17 |
Then they laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. |
| 8:18 |
Now when Simon saw that the Holy Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, |
| 8:19 |
saying, Give me also this power, that onwhomever whomsoever I lay my hands, heon may receive the Holy Spirit. |
| 8:20 |
But Peter said untoto him, ThyMay your silver perish with theeyou, because thouyou hast thought toyou could obtain the gift of God with money.! |
| 8:21 |
ThouYou hasthave neither part nor lot in this matter:, for thyyour heart isisnt not right before God. |
| 8:22 |
Repent therefore of this, thyyour wickedness, and prayask theGod Lord, if perhaps the thought of thyyour heart shallmay be forgiven theeyou. |
| 8:23 |
For I see that thouyou artare in the gallpoison of bitterness and in the bondbondage of iniquity. |
| 8:24 |
And Simon answered and said, Pray ye for me to the Lord, that none of the things which yeyou have spoken comehappen uponto me. |
| 8:25 |
They therefore, when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospelGood News to many villages of the Samaritans. |
| 8:26 |
ButThen an angel of the Lord spakespoke untoto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south untoto the way that goethgoes down from Jerusalem untoto Gaza:. theThis same is a desert. |
| 8:27 |
AndHe he arose and went:; and behold, there was a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to Jerusalem to worship;. |
| 8:28 |
andHe he was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah. |
| 8:29 |
AndThe the Spirit said untoto Philip, Go near, and join thyselfyourself to this chariot. |
| 8:30 |
And Philip ran to him, and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, UnderstandestDo thouyou understand what thouyou readestare reading? |
| 8:31 |
AndHe he said, How can I, exceptunless somesomeone oneexplains shallit guideto me? AndHe hebegged besought Philip to come up and sit with him. |
| 8:32 |
Now the passage of the scriptureScripture which he was reading was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter;. AndAs as a lamb before his shearer is dumbsilent, Soso he openethdoesnt notopen his mouth:. |
| 8:33 |
In his humiliation, his judgment was taken away:. HisWho generationwill whodeclare shallHis declaregeneration? For his life is taken from the earth. |
| 8:34 |
AndThe the eunuch answered Philip, andWho said,is I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet thistalking about? ofAbout himself, or ofabout somesomeone otherelse? |
| 8:35 |
And Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this scriptureScripture, preached untoto him about Jesus. |
| 8:36 |
AndAs as they went on the way, they came untoto asome certain water; and the eunuch saithsaid, Behold, here is water;. whatWhat dothis hinderkeeping me tofrom bebeing baptized? |
| 8:38 |
AndHe he commanded the chariot to stand still:, and they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch;, and he baptized him. |
| 8:39 |
AndWhen when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, Philip; and the eunuch sawdidnt see him noany more, for he went on his way rejoicing. |
| 8:40 |
But Philip was found at Azotus:. andPassing passing through, he preached the gospelGood News to all the cities, tilluntil he came to Caesarea. |
| 9:1 |
But Saul, yetstill breathing threateningthreats and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went untoto the high priest, |
| 9:2 |
and asked offor him letters tofrom Damascushim untoto the synagogues of Damascus, that if he found any thatwho were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. |
| 9:3 |
AndAs as he journeyedtraveled, it came to pass that he drewgot nighclose untoto Damascus:, and suddenly therea shonelight roundfrom aboutthe himsky ashone lightaround out of heaven:him. |
| 9:4 |
andHe he fell uponon the earth, and heard a voice saying untoto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutestdo thouyou persecute me? |
| 9:5 |
AndHe he said, Who artare thouyou, Lord? AndThe heLord said, I am Jesus, whom thouyou persecutest:are persecuting. |
| 9:6 |
butBut rise, up and enter into the city, andthen ityou shallwill be told thee what thouyou must do. |
| 9:7 |
AndThe the men thatwho journeyedtraveled with him stood speechless, hearing the voicesound, but beholdingseeing no manone. |
| 9:8 |
And Saul arose from the earth;ground, and when his eyes were opened, he saw nothing;no andone. theyThey led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. |
| 9:9 |
AndHe he was without sight for three days without sight, and did neither eatate nor drinkdrank. |
| 9:10 |
Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias;. andThe the Lord said untoto him in a vision, Ananias.! AndHe he said, Behold, Iits am hereme, Lord. |
| 9:11 |
AndThe the Lord said untoto him, Arise, and go to the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of JudasJudah for one named Saul, a man of Tarsus:. forFor behold, he prayeth;is praying, |
| 9:12 |
and in a vision he hathhas seen a man named Ananias coming in, and laying his hands on him, that he might receive his sight. |
| 9:13 |
But Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard from many ofabout this man, how much evil he did to thyyour saints at Jerusalem:. |
| 9:14 |
andHere here he hathhas authority from the chief priests to bind all thatwho call uponon thyyour name. |
| 9:15 |
But the Lord said untoto him, Go thyyour way:, for he is amy chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentilesnations and kings, and the children of Israel:. |
| 9:16 |
forFor I will show him how many things he must suffer for my names sake. |
| 9:17 |
And Ananias departed, and entered into the house;. andLaying laying his hands on him, he said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, who appeared untoto theeyou inon the wayroad by which thouyou camestcame, hathhas sent me, that thouyou mayestmay receive thyyour sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit. |
| 9:18 |
AndImmediately straightwaysomething therelike scales fell from his eyes as it were scales, and he received his sight;. andHe he arose and was baptized;. |
| 9:19 |
andHe he took food and was strengthened. AndSaul hestayed wasseveral certain days with the disciples thatwho were at Damascus. |
| 9:20 |
AndImmediately straightway in the synagogues he proclaimed Jesusthe Christ, that he is the Son of God. |
| 9:21 |
AndAll allwho that heard him were amazed, and said, IsIsnt not this he thatwho in Jerusalem made havoc of themthose thatwho called on this name? andAnd he had come hitherhere forintending thisto intent, that he might bring them bound before the chief priests.! |
| 9:22 |
But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews thatwho dweltlived at Damascus, proving that this is the Christ. |
| 9:23 |
AndWhen when many days were fulfilled, the Jews tookconspired counsel together to kill him:, |
| 9:24 |
but their plot became known to Saul. AndThey they watched the gates alsoboth day and night that they might kill him:, |
| 9:25 |
but his disciples took him by night, and let him down through the wall, lowering him in a basket. |
| 9:26 |
AndWhen whenSaul hehad was come to Jerusalem, he assayedtried to join himself to the disciples:; andbut they were all afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple. |
| 9:27 |
But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared untoto them how he had seen the Lord inon the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how at Damascus he had preached boldly in the name of Jesus. |
| 9:28 |
AndHe he was with them goingentering ininto and going out at Jerusalem, |
| 9:29 |
preaching boldly in the name of the Lord: andJesus. heHe spakespoke and disputed against the GrecianHellenists, Jews; but they were seeking to kill him. |
| 9:30 |
AndWhen when the brethrenbrothers knew it, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forthoff to Tarsus. |
| 9:31 |
So the churchassemblies throughout all JudaeaJudea, and Galilee, and Samaria had peace, beingand edified;were andbuilt up. They were multiplied, walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, was multiplied. |
| 9:32 |
AndAs it came to pass, as Peter went throughout all those parts, he came down also to the saints thatwho dweltlived at Lydda. |
| 9:33 |
AndThere there he found a certain man named Aeneas, who had keptbeen hisbedridden bedfor eight years; forbecause he was palsiedparalyzed. |
| 9:34 |
And Peter said untoto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ healethheals thee:you. arise,Get up and make thyyour bed.! AndImmediately straightway he arose. |
| 9:35 |
AndAll allwho thatlived dwelt at Lydda and in Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord. |
| 9:36 |
Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which bywhen interpretationtranslated ismeans called Dorcas:. thisThis woman was full of good works and almsdeedsacts of mercy which she did. |
| 9:37 |
AndIn it came to pass in those days, that she fellbecame sick, and died:. andWhen when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper chamberroom. |
| 9:38 |
AndAs as Lydda was nighnear unto Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men untoto him, entreatingimploring him, Delay not to comedelay onin untocoming usto them. |
| 9:39 |
And Peter arosegot up and went with them. AndWhen when he washad come, they brought him into the upper chamber:room. andAll all the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the coatstunics and other garments which Dorcas had made, while she was with them. |
| 9:40 |
But Peter putsent them all forthout, and kneeledknelt down, and prayed;. andTurning turning to the body, he said, Tabitha, arise.get Andup! sheShe opened her eyes;, and when she saw Peter, she sat up. |
| 9:41 |
AndHe he gave her his hand, and raised her up;. andCalling calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive. |
| 9:42 |
AndThis it became known throughout all Joppa:, and many believed onin the Lord. |
| 9:43 |
AndHe itstayed came to pass, that he abode many days in Joppa with onea Simontanner anamed tannerSimon. |
| 10:1 |
Now there was a certain man in Caesarea, Cornelius by name, a centurion of thewhat bandwas called the Italian bandRegiment, |
| 10:2 |
a devout man, and one thatwho feared God with all his house, who gave muchgifts almsfor the needy generously to the people, and always prayed to God always. |
| 10:3 |
HeAt saw in a vision openly, as it were about the ninth hour of the day, he clearly saw in a vision an angel of God coming into unto him, and saying to him, Cornelius.! |
| 10:4 |
And heHe, fastening his eyes uponon him, and being affrightedfrightened, said, What is it, Lord? AndHe he said untoto him, ThyYour prayers and thineyour almsgifts areto the needy have gone up for a memorial before God. |
| 10:5 |
AndNow now send men to Joppa, and fetchget one Simon, who is surnamedalso called Peter:. |
| 10:6 |
heHe lodgethis staying with onea Simontanner anamed tannerSimon, whose house is by the sea sideseaside. |
| 10:7 |
AndWhen when the angel thatwho spakespoke untoto him washad departed, heCornelius called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of themthose thatwho waited on him continually;. |
| 10:8 |
andHaving havingexplained rehearsedeverything allto things unto them, he sent them to Joppa. |
| 10:9 |
Now on the morrow, next day as they were on their journey, and drewgot nighclose untoto the city, Peter went up uponon the housetop to pray, at about the sixth hour:noon. |
| 10:10 |
andHe he became hungry, and desired to eat:, but while they madewere readypreparing, he fell into a trance;. |
| 10:11 |
andHe hesaw beholdeth the heaven opened, and a certain vesselcontainer descending, asto ithim, werelike a great sheet, let down by four corners uponon the earth:, |
| 10:12 |
whereinin which were all mannerkinds of fourfootedfour beastsfooted andanimals creeping things of the earth, wild animals, reptiles, and birds of the heavensky. |
| 10:13 |
AndA therevoice came a voice to him, Rise, Peter;, kill and eat.! |
| 10:14 |
But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common andor unclean. |
| 10:15 |
AndA a voice came untoto him again the second time, What God hathhas cleansed, makeyou must not thoucall commonunclean. |
| 10:16 |
AndThis this was done thrice:three times, and straightwayimmediately the vesselthing was received up into heaven. |
| 10:17 |
Now while Peter was muchvery perplexed in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men thatwho were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simons house, stood before the gate, |
| 10:18 |
and called and asked whether Simon, who was surnamedalso called Peter, werewas lodging there. |
| 10:19 |
AndWhile while Peter thoughtwas onpondering the vision, the Spirit said untoto him, Behold, three men seek theeyou. |
| 10:20 |
But arise, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing; doubting: for I have sent them. |
| 10:21 |
And Peter went down to the men, and said, Behold, I am he whom yeyou seek:. whatWhy ishave theyou cause wherefore ye are come? |
| 10:22 |
AndThey they said, Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous man and one thatwho fearethfears God, and well reportedspoken of by all the nation of the Jews, was warneddirected of God by a holy angel to sendinvite foryou theeto into his house, and to hearlisten wordsto fromwhat theeyou say. |
| 10:23 |
So he called them in and lodgedprovided thema place to stay. AndOn on the morrownext heday Peter arose and went forthout with them, and certainsome of the brethrenbrothers from Joppa accompanied him. |
| 10:24 |
AndOn on the morrownext day they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his kinsmenrelatives and his near friends. |
| 10:25 |
AndWhen when it came to pass that Peter entered, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshippedworshiped him. |
| 10:26 |
But Peter raised him up, saying, Stand up;! I myself am also am a man. |
| 10:27 |
AndAs as he talked with him, he went in, and findethfound many comegathered together:. |
| 10:28 |
andHe he said untoto them, YeYou yourselves know how it is an unlawful thing for a man thatwho is a Jew to join himself or come untoto one of another nation;, andbut yetGod untohas shown me hath God showed that I shouldshouldnt not call any man commonunholy or unclean:. |
| 10:29 |
whereforeTherefore I also I came without gainsaying, complaint when I was sent for. I ask therefore, withwhy whatdid intentyou yesend sent for me.? |
| 10:30 |
And Cornelius said, Four days ago, I was fasting until this hour,; Iand wasat keeping the ninth hour, ofI prayerprayed in my house;, and behold, a man stood before me in bright apparel, clothing |
| 10:31 |
and saithsaid, Cornelius, thyyour prayer is heard, and thineyour almsgifts areto hadthe inneedy remembranceare remembered in the sight of God. |
| 10:32 |
Send therefore to Joppa, and callsummon unto thee Simon, who is surnamedalso called Peter;. heHe lodgethis staying in the house of Simon a tanner named Simon, by the seaseaside. sideWhen he comes, he will speak to you. |
| 10:33 |
ForthwithTherefore therefore I sent to thee;you at once, and thouit hastwas wellgood doneof thatyou thouto art come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God, to hear all things that have been commanded theeyou ofby the LordGod. |
| 10:34 |
And Peter opened his mouth, and said, OfTruly a truth I perceive that God isdoesnt noshow respecter of persons:favoritism; |
| 10:35 |
but in every nation he thatwho fearethfears him, and workethworks righteousness, is acceptable to him. |
| 10:36 |
The word which he sent untoto the children of Israel, preaching good tidingsnews of peace by Jesus Christ —he is Lord of all— |
| 10:37 |
thatyou sayingyourselves yeknow yourselveswhat knowhappened, which was publishedproclaimed throughout all JudaeaJudea, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; |
| 10:38 |
evenhow God anointed Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power:, who went about doing good, and healing all thatwho were oppressed ofby the devil;, for God was with him. |
| 10:39 |
AndWe we are witnesses of alleverything things which he did both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they also they slewkilled, hanging him on a tree. |
| 10:40 |
Him God raised him up the third day, and gave him to be made manifestrevealed, |
| 10:41 |
not to all the people, but untoto witnesses thatwho were chosen before ofby God, even to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. |
| 10:42 |
AndHe hecommanded charged us to preach untoto the people, and to testify that this is he who is ordainedappointed ofby God toas be the Judge of the living and the dead. |
| 10:43 |
ToAll himthe bearprophets alltestify theabout prophets witnesshim, that through his name everyeveryone onewho thatbelieves believethin on him shallwill receive remission of sins. |
| 10:44 |
While Peter yetwas spakestill speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all themthose thatwho heard the word. |
| 10:45 |
AndThey they of the circumcision thatwho believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because thatthe ongift of the GentilesHoly alsoSpirit was also poured out theon gift of the Holy SpiritGentiles. |
| 10:46 |
For they heard them speakspeaking within tongues, other languages and magnifymagnifying God. Then Peter answered Peter, |
| 10:47 |
Can anyanyone man forbid thethese water, people thatfrom thesebeing shouldbaptized notwith bewater? baptized,They who have received the Holy Spirit asjust welllike as we?us. |
| 10:48 |
AndHe he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then prayed they asked him to tarrystay certainsome days. |
| 11:1 |
Now the apostles and the brethrenbrothers thatwho were in JudaeaJudea heard that the Gentiles had also had received the word of God. |
| 11:2 |
AndWhen when Peter washad come up to Jerusalem, theythose thatwho were of the circumcision contended with him, |
| 11:3 |
saying, ThouYou wentestwent in to uncircumcised men uncircumcised, and didstate eat with them.! |
| 11:4 |
But Peter began, and expoundedexplained theto matter unto them in order, saying, |
| 11:5 |
I was in the city of Joppa praying:, and in a trance I saw a vision,: a certain vesselcontainer descending, aslike it werewas a great sheet let down from heaven by four corners;. andIt it came evenas untofar as me:. |
| 11:6 |
uponWhen which when I had fastenedlooked mineintently eyesat it, I considered, and saw the fourfootedfour beastsfooted animals of the earth, and wild beastsanimals, and creeping things, and birds of the heavensky. |
| 11:7 |
And I also heard also a voice saying untoto me, Rise, Peter;, kill and eat.! |
| 11:8 |
But I said, Not so, Lord:, for nothing commonunholy or unclean hathhas ever entered into my mouth. |
| 11:9 |
But a voice answered me the second time out of heaven, What God hathhas cleansed, makedont notyou thoucall commonunclean. |
| 11:10 |
AndThis this was done thrice:three times, and all were drawn up again into heaven. |
| 11:11 |
And beholdBehold, forthwithimmediately three men stood before the house inwhere whichI we werewas, having been sent from Caesarea untoto me. |
| 11:12 |
AndThe the Spirit badetold me to go with them, makingwithout no distinctiondiscriminating. AndThese these six brethrenbrothers also accompanied me;, and we entered into the mans house:. |
| 11:13 |
andHe he told us how he had seen the angel standing in his house, and saying to him, Send to Joppa, and fetchget Simon, whosewho surname is called Peter;, |
| 11:14 |
who shallwill speak untoto theeyou words, wherebyby thouwhich shaltyou will be saved, thouyou and all thyyour house. |
| 11:15 |
AndAs as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, even as on us at the beginning. |
| 11:16 |
And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, John indeed baptized within water;, but yeyou shallwill be baptized in the Holy Spirit. |
| 11:17 |
If then God gave untoto them the likesame gift as he did also unto us, when we believed onin the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God? |
| 11:18 |
AndWhen when they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then toGod thehas Gentiles also hathgranted Godto grantedthe Gentiles repentance untoto life.! |
| 11:19 |
They therefore thatwho were scattered abroad uponby the tribulationoppression that arose about Stephen travelledtraveled as far as Phoenicia, and Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to noneno saveone onlyexcept to Jews only. |
| 11:20 |
But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they werehad come to Antioch, spakespoke untoto the Greeks alsoHellenists, preaching the Lord Jesus. |
| 11:21 |
AndThe the hand of the Lord was with them:, and a great number that believed and turned untoto the Lord. |
| 11:22 |
AndThe the report concerning them came to the ears of the churchassembly which was in Jerusalem:. andThey they sent forthout Barnabas to go as far as Antioch:, |
| 11:23 |
who, when he washad come, and had seen the grace of God, was glad;. andHe he exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they wouldshould cleaveremain untonear to the Lord:. |
| 11:24 |
forFor he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith:, and muchmany people waswere added untoto the Lord. |
| 11:25 |
AndBarnabas he went forthout to Tarsus to seeklook for Saul;. |
| 11:26 |
andWhen when he had found him, he brought him untoto Antioch. AndFor it came to pass, that even for a whole year they were gathered together with the churchassembly, and taught muchmany people;. andThe that the disciples were first called Christians first in Antioch. |
| 11:27 |
Now in these days, thereprophets came down prophets from Jerusalem untoto Antioch. |
| 11:28 |
AndOne there stood up one of them named Agabus, stood up and signifiedindicated by the Spirit that there should be a great famine all over all the world:, which camealso tohappened pass in the days of Claudius. |
| 11:29 |
AndAs any of the disciples, everyhad manplenty, accordingeach to his ability, determined to send relief untoto the brethrenbrothers thatwho dweltlived in Judaea:Judea; |
| 11:30 |
which they also they did, sending it to the elders by the handhands of Barnabas and Saul. |
| 12:1 |
Now about that time, King Herod thestretched kingout put forth his hands to afflictoppress certainsome of the churchassembly. |
| 12:2 |
AndHe he killed James, the brother of John, with the sword. |
| 12:3 |
AndWhen when he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. AndThis thosewas wereduring the days of unleavened bread. |
| 12:4 |
AndWhen when he had takenarrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternionssquads of four soldiers each to guard him;, intending after the Passover to bring him forthout to the people after the Passover. |
| 12:5 |
Peter therefore was kept in the prison:, but constant prayer was made earnestlyby of the churchassembly untoto God for him. |
| 12:6 |
AndThe same night when Herod was about to bring him forthout, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains:. andGuards guardsin beforefront of the door kept the prison. |
| 12:7 |
And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shinedshone in the cell:. andHe hestruck smote Peter on the side, and awokewoke him up, saying, RiseStand up quickly.! AndHis his chains fell off from his hands. |
| 12:8 |
AndThe the angel said untoto him, GirdGet thyself, dressed and bindput on thyyour sandals. AndHe he did so. AndHe hesaid saithto unto him, CastPut thyon garmentyour aboutcloak thee, and follow me. |
| 12:9 |
And he went out, and followed; andhim. heHe knewdidnt notknow that itwhat was truebeing which was done by the angel was real, but thought he saw a vision. |
| 12:10 |
AndWhen when they were past the first and the second guard, they came untoto the iron gate that leadethleads into the city;, which opened to them ofby itsitself. ownThey accord: and they went out, and passedwent ondown through one street;, and straightwayimmediately the angel departed from him. |
| 12:11 |
AndWhen when Peter washad come to himself, he said, Now I truly know of a truth, that the Lord hathhas sent forthout his angel and delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from alleverything the expectationJewish of the people ofwere the Jewsexpecting. |
| 12:12 |
AndThinking whenabout he had considered the thingthat, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whosewho surname was called Mark;, where many were gathered together and were praying. |
| 12:13 |
AndWhen whenPeter he knocked at the door of the gate, a maidservant girl named Rhoda came to answer, named Rhoda. |
| 12:14 |
AndWhen when she knewrecognized Peters voice, she openeddidnt notopen the gate for joy, but ran in, and toldreported that Peter stoodwas beforestanding in front of the gate. |
| 12:15 |
AndThey they said untoto her, ThouYou artare mad.crazy! But she confidentlyinsisted affirmed that it was even so. AndThey they said, It is his angel. |
| 12:16 |
But Peter continued knocking:. andWhen when they had opened, they saw him, and were amazed. |
| 12:17 |
But he, beckoning untoto them with thehis hand to holdbe their peacesilent, declared untoto them how the Lord had brought him forth out of the prison. AndHe he said, Tell these things untoto James, and to the brethrenbrothers. AndThen he departed, and went to another place. |
| 12:18 |
Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, about what washad become of Peter. |
| 12:19 |
AndWhen when Herod had sought for him, and founddidnt find him not, he examined the guards, andthen commanded that they should be put to death. AndHe he went down from JudaeaJudea to Caesarea, and tarriedstayed there. |
| 12:20 |
Now heHerod was highlyvery displeasedangry with themthe people of Tyre and Sidon:. andThey they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus, the kings chamberlainpersonal aide, their friend, they asked for peace, because their country wasdepended fedon from the kings country for food. |
| 12:21 |
AndOn uponan aappointed set day, Herod arrayeddressed himself in royal apparelclothing, and sat on the throne, and madegave ana orationspeech untoto them. |
| 12:22 |
AndThe the people shouted, saying, The voice of a god, and not of a man.! |
| 12:23 |
AndImmediately immediately an angel of the Lord smotestruck him, because he gavedidnt notgive God the glory:. andThen he was eaten ofby worms, and gave up the ghostdied. |
| 12:25 |
And Barnabas and Saul returned fromto Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministrationservice, also taking with them John whosewho surname was called Mark. |
| 13:1 |
Now there were at Antioch, in the churchassembly that was at Antioch there, were some prophets and teachers,: Barnabas, andSimeon Symeonwho that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen the foster brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. |
| 13:2 |
AndAs as they ministeredserved to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for me, for the work whereuntoto which I have called them. |
| 13:4 |
So they, being sent forthout by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia;. andFrom fromthere thence they sailed to Cyprus. |
| 13:5 |
AndWhen when they were at Salamis, they proclaimed theGods word of God in the Jewish synagogues. ofThey thealso Jews: and they had also John as their attendant. |

who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of understanding. TheThis sameman calledsummoned unto him Barnabas and Saul, and sought to hear the word of God. |
| 13:8 |
But Elymas the sorcerer for so is his name by interpretation withstood them, seeking to turn aside the proconsul away from the faith. |
| 13:9 |
But Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fastened his eyes on him, |
| 13:10 |
and said, OYou son of the devil, full of all guiledeceit and all villanycunning, thouyou son of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wiltwill thouyou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? |
| 13:11 |
And nowNow, behold, the hand of the Lord is uponon theeyou, and thouyou shaltwill be blind, not seeing the sun for a season.! AndImmediately immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; andfell heon him. He went aboutaround seeking somesomeone to lead him by the hand. |
| 13:13 |
Now Paul and his company set sail from Paphos, and came to Perga in Pamphylia:. and John departed from them and returned to Jerusalem. |
| 13:14 |
But they, passing throughon from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia;. andThey they went into the synagogue on the sabbathSabbath day, and sat down. |
| 13:15 |
AndAfter after the reading of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent untoto them, saying, BrethrenBrothers, if yeyou have any word of exhortation for the people, say onspeak. |
| 13:16 |
And Paul stood up, and beckoninggesturing with thehis hand said, Men of Israel, and yeyou thatwho fear God, hearken:listen. |
| 13:17 |
The God of this people Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they sojournedstayed as aliens in the land of Egypt, and with aan highuplifted arm, he led he them forth out of it. |
| 13:18 |
AndFor fora aboutperiod theof timeabout of forty years ashe aput nursingup fatherwith bare he them in the wilderness. |
| 13:19 |
AndWhen when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land for an inheritance, for about four hundred and fifty years:. |
| 13:20 |
andAfter after these things, he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet. |
| 13:21 |
AndAfterward afterward they asked for a king:, and God gave untoto them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for the space of forty years. |
| 13:22 |
AndWhen when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king;, to whom also he barealso witness and saidtestified, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who shallwill do all my will. |
| 13:23 |
OfFrom this mans seedoffspring, hath God accordinghas brought salvation to promiseIsrael broughtaccording untoto Israelhis a Saviourpromise, Jesus; |
| 13:24 |
before his coming, when John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. |
| 13:25 |
AndAs as John was fulfilling his course, he said, What do you suppose ye that I am? I am not he. But behold, thereone comethcomes one after me, the shoessandals of whose feet I am not worthy to unlooseuntie. |
| 13:26 |
BrethrenBrothers, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you thatwho fear God, to us is the word of this salvation is sent forthout to you. |
| 13:27 |
For theythose thatwho dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knewdidnt know him not, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbathSabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him. |
| 13:28 |
AndThough though they found no cause offor death, inthey him, still yet asked they of Pilate thatto hehave shouldhim be slainkilled. |
| 13:29 |
AndWhen when they had fulfilled all things that were written ofabout him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a tomb. |
| 13:30 |
But God raised him from the dead:, |
| 13:31 |
and he was seen for many days ofby themthose thatwho came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are now his witnesses untoto the people. |
| 13:32 |
AndWe we bring you good tidingsnews of the promise made untoto the fathers, |

| 13:34 |
AndConcerning as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he hathhas spoken onthus: this wise, I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David. |
| 13:35 |
BecauseTherefore he saithsays also in another psalm, ThouYou wiltwill not giveallow thyyour Holy One to see corruptiondecay. |
| 13:36 |
For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, and was laid untowith his fathers, and saw corruption:decay. |
| 13:37 |
butBut he whom God raised up saw no corruptiondecay. |
| 13:38 |
Be it known untoto you therefore, brethrenbrothers, that through this man is proclaimed untoto you remission of sins:; |
| 13:39 |
and by him everyeveryone onewho thatbelieves believeth is justified from all things, from which yeyou could not be justified by the law of Moses. |
| 13:40 |
Beware therefore, lest that come uponon you which is spoken in the prophets: |
| 13:41 |
Behold, yeyou despisers, scoffers! andWonder wonder, and perish;, Forfor I work a work in your days, Aa work which yeyou shallwill in no wiseway believe, if one declaredeclares it untoto you. |
| 13:42 |
AndSo aswhen theythe Jews went out of the synagogue, theythe besoughtGentiles begged that these words might be spokenpreached to them the next sabbathSabbath. |
| 13:44 |
AndThe the next sabbathSabbath, almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God. |
| 13:46 |
And Paul and Barnabas spakespoke out boldly, and said, It was necessary that theGods word of God should first be spoken to you first. SeeingSince yeindeed you thrust it from youyourselves, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, lobehold, we turn to the Gentiles. |
| 13:47 |
For so hathhas the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set theeyou foras a light offor the Gentiles, Thatthat thouyou shouldestshould bebring for salvation untoto the uttermost partparts of the earth. |
| 13:48 |
AndAs as the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of God:. andAs as many as were ordainedappointed to eternal life believed. |
| 13:49 |
AndThe theLords word of the Lord was spread abroad throughout all the region. |
| 13:50 |
But the Jews urgedstirred onup the devout womenand ofprominent honorablewomen estate, and the chief men of the city, and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and castthrew them out of their borders. |
| 13:51 |
But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came untoto Iconium. |
| 13:52 |
AndThe the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit. |
| 14:1 |
AndIn it came to pass in Iconium, that they entered together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spakespoke that a great multitude both of Jews and of Greeks believed. |
| 14:2 |
But the disbelieving Jews thatstirred wereup disobedientand stirredembittered up the souls of the Gentiles, and made them evil affected against the brethrenbrothers. |
| 14:3 |
LongTherefore time therefore they tarriedstayed there a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, who baretestified witnessto unto the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands. |
| 14:4 |
But the multitude of the city was divided;. andPart partsided held with the Jews, and part with the apostles. |
| 14:5 |
AndWhen whensome thereof was made an onset both of the Gentiles and of the Jews, with their rulers, tomade treata themviolent shamefullyattempt to mistreat and to stone them, |
| 14:6 |
they became aware of it, and fled untoto the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra, and Derbe, and the surrounding region round about:. |
| 14:7 |
andThere there they preached the gospelGood News. |
| 14:8 |
AndAt at Lystra there sat a certain man sat, impotent in his feet, a cripple from his mothers womb, who never had walked. |
| 14:9 |
TheHe samewas heardlistening to Paul speaking:, who, fastening his eyes uponon him, and seeing that he had faith to be made whole, |
| 14:10 |
said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thyyour feet.! AndHe he leaped up and walked. |
| 14:11 |
AndWhen when the multitude saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voice, saying in the speechlanguage of Lycaonia, The gods arehave come down to us in the likeness of men.! |
| 14:12 |
AndThey they called Barnabas, Jupiter;, and Paul, Mercury, because he was the chief speaker. |
| 14:13 |
AndThe the priest of Jupiter, whose temple was beforein thefront of their city, brought oxen and garlands untoto the gates, and would have donemade a sacrifice along with the multitudes. |
| 14:14 |
But when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of it, they renttore their garments, clothes and sprang forthinto among the multitude, crying out, |
| 14:15 |
and sayingMen, Sirs, why doare yeyou doing these things? We also are men of likethe passionssame withnature as you, and bring you good tidingsnews, that yeyou should turn from these vain things untoto athe living God, who made the heavensky, and the earth, and the sea, and all that is in them is:; |
| 14:16 |
who in the generations gone by sufferedallowed all the nations to walk in their own ways. |
| 14:17 |
AndYet yet he leftdidnt notleave himself without witness, in that he did good and gave you rains from heaventhe rainssky and fruitful seasons, filling yourour hearts with food and gladness. |
| 14:18 |
AndEven withsaying these sayingsthings, scarcethey restrainedhardly theystopped the multitudes from doingmaking a sacrifice untoto them. |
| 14:19 |
But theresome came Jews thither from Antioch and Iconium: came there, and having persuaded the multitudes, they stoned Paul, and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead. |
| 14:20 |
But as the disciples stood roundaround about him, he rose up, and entered into the city:. andOn on the morrownext day he went forthout with Barnabas to Derbe. |
| 14:21 |
AndWhen when they had preached the gospelGood News to that city, and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, and to Iconium, and to Antioch, |
| 14:22 |
confirmingstrengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that through many tribulationsafflictions we must enter into theGods kingdom of GodKingdom. |
| 14:23 |
AndWhen when they had appointed elders for them elders in every churchassembly, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they had believed. |
| 14:24 |
AndThey they passed through Pisidia, and came to Pamphylia. |
| 14:25 |
AndWhen when they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia;. |
| 14:26 |
andFrom thencethere they sailed to Antioch, from whencewhere they had been committed to the grace of God for the work which they had fulfilled. |
| 14:27 |
AndWhen when they werehad come, arrived and had gathered the churchassembly together, they rehearsedreported all the things that God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of faith untoto the Gentilesnations. |
| 14:28 |
AndThey theystayed tarriedthere nowith littlethe timedisciples withfor thea discipleslong time. |
| 15:1 |
AndSome certain men came down from JudaeaJudea and taught the brethrenbrothers, saying,Unless Exceptyou yeare be circumcised after the custom of Moses, yeyou cannotcant be saved. |
| 15:2 |
AndTherefore when Paul and Barnabas had no small dissensiondiscord and questioningdiscussion with them, thethey brethren appointed that Paul, and Barnabas, and certainsome otherothers of them, shouldto go up to Jerusalem untoto the apostles and elders about this question. |
| 15:3 |
They therefore, being broughtsent on their way by the churchassembly, passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles:. andThey they caused great joy untoto all the brethrenbrothers. |
| 15:4 |
AndWhen when they werehad come to Jerusalem, they were received ofby the churchassembly and the apostles and the elders, and they rehearsedreported alleverything things that God had done with them. |
| 15:5 |
But theresome rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees who believed rose up, saying, It is needfulnecessary to circumcise them, and to chargecommand them to keep the law of Moses. |
| 15:6 |
AndThe the apostles and the elders were gathered together to considersee ofabout this matter. |
| 15:7 |
AndWhen when there had been much questioningdiscussion, Peter rose up, and said untoto them, BrethrenBrothers, yeyou know that a good while ago God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentilesnations should hear the word of the gospel,Good News and believe. |
| 15:8 |
And God, who knowethknows the heart, baretestified about them witness, giving them the Holy Spirit, evenjust aslike he did untoto us;. |
| 15:9 |
andHe he made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith. |
| 15:10 |
Now therefore why makedo yeyou trialtempt of God, that yeyou should put a yoke uponon the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? |
| 15:11 |
But we believe that we shallare be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, injust like manner as they are. |
| 15:12 |
AndAll all the multitude kept silence;, and they hearkenedlistened untoto Barnabas and Paul rehearsingreporting what signs and wonders God had wroughtdone among the Gentilesnations through them. |
| 15:13 |
AndAfter after they hadwere held their peacesilent, James answered, sayingBrothers, Brethren, listen hearkento unto me:. |
| 15:14 |
SymeonSimeon hathhas rehearsedreported how God first God visited the Gentiles, nations to take out of them a people for his name. |
| 15:15 |
AndThis toagrees thiswith agree the words of the prophets;. asAs it is written, |
| 15:16 |
After these things I will return,. And I will again build again the tabernacle of David, which ishas fallen;. And I will again build againits the ruins. thereof, And I will set it up: |
| 15:17 |
Thatthat the residuerest of men may seek after the Lord,: And all the Gentiles, uponwho whomare called by my name, issays calledthe Lord, who does all these things. |
| 15:18 |
SaithAll theof Lord,Gods whoworks makethare theseknown thingsto knownhim from of oldeternity. |
| 15:19 |
WhereforeTherefore my judgment is, that we dont trouble notthose them that from among the Gentiles who turn to God;, |
| 15:20 |
but that we write untoto them, that they abstain from the pollutionspollution of idols, and from fornicationsexual immorality, and from what is strangled, and from blood. |
| 15:21 |
For Moses from generations of old hathhas in every city themthose thatwho preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbathSabbath. |
| 15:22 |
Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole churchassembly, to choose men out of their company, and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas;: namely, Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren:brothers. |
| 15:23 |
andThey they wrote thusthese things by them, their hand: The apostles, and the elders, brethrenand the brothers, untoto the brethrenbrothers who are of the Gentiles in Antioch, and Syria, and Cilicia,: greeting:greetings. |
| 15:24 |
ForasmuchBecause as we have heard that certainsome who went out from us have troubled you with words, subvertingunsettling your souls;, saying, You must be circumcised and keep the law, to whom we gave no commandment; |
| 15:25 |
it seemed good untoto us, having come to one accord, to choose out men and send them untoto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, |
| 15:26 |
men thatwho have hazardedrisked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
| 15:27 |
We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who themselves will also shall tell you the same things by word of mouth. |
| 15:28 |
For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden on you than these necessary things: |
| 15:29 |
that yeyou abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication;sexual immorality, from which if yeyou keep yourselves, it shallwill be well with you. Fare ye wellFarewell. |
| 15:30 |
So they, when they were dismissedsent off, they came down to Antioch;. andHaving having gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistleletter. |
| 15:31 |
AndWhen when they had read it, they rejoiced forover the consolationencouragement. |
| 15:32 |
And Judas and Silas, also being prophets themselves also prophets, exhortedencouraged the brethrenbrothers with many words, and confirmedstrengthened them. |
| 15:33 |
AndAfter after they had spent some time there, they were dismissed in peace from the brethrenbrothers untoto thosethe that had sent them forthapostles. |
| 15:35 |
But Paul and Barnabas tarriedstayed in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also. |
| 15:36 |
AndAfter after some days Paul said untoto Barnabas, LetLets us return now and visit theour brethrenbrothers in every city whereinin which we proclaimed the word of the Lord, andto see how they fareare doing. |
| 15:37 |
And Barnabas wasplanned minded to take with them John also, who was called Mark, with them also. |
| 15:38 |
But Paul thoughtdidnt notthink that it was a good idea to take with them himsomeone who withdrewhad withdrawn from them fromin Pamphylia, and wentdidnt notgo with them to do the work. |
| 15:39 |
AndThen therethe arosecontention agrew so sharp contention, so that they partedseparated asunder one from theeach other,. and Barnabas took Mark with him, and sailed away untoto Cyprus:, |
| 15:40 |
but Paul chose Silas, and went forthout, being commended by the brethrenbrothers to the grace of the LordGod. |
| 15:41 |
AndHe he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirmingstrengthening the churchesassemblies. |
| 16:1 |
AndHe he came also to Derbe and to Lystra:; and behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewess thatwho believed;, but his father was a Greek. |
| 16:2 |
The samebrothers waswho wellwere reportedat ofLystra byand theIconium brethrengave thata weregood attestimony Lystraabout and Iconiumhim. |
| 16:3 |
HimPaul wouldwanted Paulto have tohim go forthout with him;, and he took and circumcised him because of the Jews thatwho were in those parts:, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. |
| 16:4 |
AndAs as they went on their way through the cities, they delivered them the decrees to them to keep which had been ordained ofby the apostles and elders thatwho were at Jerusalem. |
| 16:5 |
So the churchesassemblies were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily. |
| 16:6 |
AndWhen they wenthad gone through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, havingthey beenwere forbidden ofby the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia;. |
| 16:7 |
andWhen when they werehad come overopposite against Mysia, they assayedtried to go into Bithynia;, andbut the Spirit ofdidnt Jesusallow suffered them not;. |
| 16:8 |
andPassing passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. |
| 16:9 |
AndA a vision appeared to Paul in the night:. There was a man of Macedonia standing, beseechingbegging him, and saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us. |
| 16:10 |
AndWhen when he had seen the vision, straightwayimmediately we sought to go forthout intoto Macedonia, concluding that Godthe Lord had called us to preach the gospelGood untoNews to them. |
| 16:12 |
and from thencethere to Philippi, which is a city of Macedonia, the firstforemost of the district, a Roman colony:. andWe we were staying some days in this city tarrying certain days. |
| 16:13 |
AndOn on the sabbathSabbath day we went forthoutside withoutof the gatecity by a river sideriverside, where we supposed there was a place of prayer;, and we sat down, and spakespoke untoto the women thatwho werehad come together. |
| 16:14 |
AndA a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, one thatwho worshippedworshiped God, heard us:. whoseThe heart the Lord opened her heart to givelisten heedto unto the things which were spoken by Paul. |
| 16:15 |
AndWhen when she was baptized, and her household were baptized, she besoughtbegged us, saying, If yeyou have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide therestay. AndSo she constrainedpersuaded us. |
| 16:16 |
AndAs it came to pass, as we were going to the place of prayer, that a certain maidgirl having a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much gain by soothsayingfortune telling. |
| 16:17 |
TheFollowing same following after Paul and us, she cried out, saying, These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim untoto youus thea way of salvation.! |
| 16:18 |
AndShe thiswas shedoing didthis for many days. But Paul, beingbecoming soregreatly troubledannoyed, turned and said to the spirit, I chargecommand theeyou in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.! AndIt it came out that very hour. |
| 16:19 |
But when her masters saw that the hope of their gain was gone, they laidseized hold on Paul and Silas, and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers,. |
| 16:20 |
andWhen when they had brought them untoto the magistrates, they said, These men, being Jews, doare exceedinglyagitating trouble our city, |
| 16:21 |
and setadvocate forth customs which it is not lawful for us to receive, accept or to observe, being Romans. |
| 16:22 |
AndThe the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates renttore their garmentsclothes offfrom them, andthen commanded them to beatbe thembeaten with rods. |
| 16:23 |
AndWhen when they had laid many stripes uponon them, they castthrew them into prison, charging the jailorjailer to keep them safely:. |
| 16:24 |
who,Having having received such a chargecommand, casthe threw them into the inner prison, and madesecured their feet fast in the stocks. |
| 16:25 |
But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns untoto God, and the prisoners were listening to them;. |
| 16:26 |
andSuddenly suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison house were shaken:; and immediately all the doors were opened;, and everyeveryones onesbonds bands were loosedloosened. |
| 16:27 |
AndThe the jailorjailer, being roused out of sleep and seeing the prison doors open, drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped. |
| 16:28 |
But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, DoDont thyselfharm noyourself, harm: for we are all here.! |
| 16:29 |
AndHe he called for lights, and sprang in, and, trembling for fear, fell down trembling before Paul and Silas, |
| 16:30 |
and brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? |
| 16:31 |
AndThey they said, Believe onin the Lord Jesus Christ, and thouyou shaltwill be saved, thouyou and thyyour househousehold. |
| 16:32 |
AndThey theyspoke spake the word of the Lord untoto him, withand to all thatwho were in his house. |
| 16:33 |
AndHe he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes;, and was immediately baptized, he and all his, immediatelyhousehold. |
| 16:34 |
AndHe he brought them up into his house, and set food before them, and rejoiced greatly, with all his househousehold, having believed in God. |
| 16:35 |
But when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeantssergeants, saying, Let those men go. |
| 16:36 |
AndThe thejailer jailor reported thethese words to Paul, saying, The magistrates have sent to let you go:; now therefore come forth, out and go in peace. |
| 16:37 |
But Paul said untoto them, They have beaten us publicly, uncondemnedwithout a trial, men thatwho are Romans, and have cast us into prison;! andDo do they now castrelease us out privilysecretly? nayNo, verily;most certainly, but let them come themselves and bring us out.! |
| 16:38 |
AndThe thesergeants serjeants reported these words untoto the magistrates:, and they fearedwere afraid when they heard that they were Romans;, |
| 16:39 |
and they came and besoughtbegged them;. andWhen when they had brought them out, they asked them to godepart away from the city. |
| 16:40 |
AndThey they went out of the prison, and entered into theLydias house. ofWhen Lydia: and when they had seen the brethrenbrothers, they comfortedencouraged them, andthen departed. |
| 17:1 |
Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a Jewish synagogue of the Jews:. |
| 17:2 |
and Paul, as was his custom was, went in untoto them,; and for three sabbathSabbath days reasoned with them from the scripturesScriptures, |
| 17:3 |
openingexplaining and allegingdemonstrating that it behooved the Christ had to suffer, and to rise again from the dead;, and thatsaying, thisThis Jesus, whom, said he, I proclaim untoto you, is the Christ. |
| 17:4 |
AndSome some of them were persuaded, and consortedjoined with Paul and Silas;: and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and not a few of the chief women not a few. |
| 17:5 |
But the unpersuaded Jews, being moved with jealousy, took untoalong themsome certainwicked vilemen fellowsfrom of the rabble, marketplace and gathering a crowd, set the city onin an uproar;. andAssaulting assaulting the house of Jason, they sought to bring them forthout to the people. |
| 17:6 |
AndWhen when they founddidnt find them not, they dragged Jason and certain brethrenbrothers before the rulers of the city, crying, These thatwho have turned the world upside down arehave come hitherhere also;, |
| 17:7 |
whom Jason hathhas received:. andThese these all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.! |
| 17:8 |
AndThe they troubled the multitude and the rulers of the city, were troubled when they heard these things. |
| 17:9 |
AndWhen when they had taken security from Jason and the rest, they let them go. |
| 17:10 |
AndThe thebrothers brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas away by night untoto Beroea:. whoWhen when they werearrived, comethey thither went into the Jewish synagogue of the Jews. |
| 17:11 |
Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, examining the scripturesScriptures daily, to see whether these things were so. |
| 17:12 |
Many of them therefore believed; also of the prominent Greek women of honorable estate, and of men, not a few men. |
| 17:13 |
But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was proclaimed ofby Paul at Beroea also, they came thitherthere likewise, stirringagitating up and troubling the multitudes. |
| 17:14 |
AndThen thenthe brothers immediately the brethren sent forthout Paul to go as far as to the sea:, and Silas and Timothy abodestill stayed there still. |
| 17:15 |
But theythose thatwho conductedescorted Paul brought him as far as Athens:. andReceiving receiving a commandment untoto Silas and Timothy that they should come to him withvery all speedquickly, they departed. |
| 17:16 |
Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he beheldsaw the city full of idols. |
| 17:17 |
So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with themthose thatwho met him. |
| 17:18 |
AndSome certain also of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encounteredalso were conversing with him. AndSome some said, What woulddoes this babbler want to say? othersOthers said, He seemethseems to be aadvocating setterforeign forthdeities, of strange gods: because he preached Jesus and the resurrection. |
| 17:19 |
AndThey they took hold of him, and brought him untoto the Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new teaching is, which isyou spokenare byspeaking theeabout? |
| 17:20 |
For thouyou bringestbring certain strange things to our ears:. weWe wouldwant to know therefore what these things mean. |
| 17:21 |
Now all the Athenians and the strangers sojourningliving there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell or to hear some new thing. |
| 17:22 |
And Paul stood in the midstmiddle of the Areopagus, and said, YeYou men of Athens, in all things I perceive that yeyou are very religious in all things. |
| 17:23 |
For as I passed along, and observed the objects of your worship, I also found also an altar with this inscription,: ToTO anAN UnknownUNKNOWN GodGOD. What therefore yeyou worship in ignorance, this I setannounce forthto unto you. |
| 17:24 |
The God thatwho made the world and all things thereinin it, he, being Lord of heaven and earth, dwellethdoesnt notdwell in temples made with hands;. |
| 17:25 |
neitherHe isisnt he served by mens hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself givethgives to all life, and breath, and all things;. |
| 17:26 |
andHe he made offrom one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the facesurface of the earth, having determined their appointed seasons, and the boundsboundaries of their habitation;dwellings, |
| 17:27 |
that they should seek Godthe Lord, if haplyperhaps they might feelreach afterout for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us:. |
| 17:28 |
forFor in him we live, and move, and have our being;. asAs certainsome even of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. |
| 17:29 |
Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the GodheadDivine Nature is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, gravenengraved by art and devicedesign of man. |
| 17:30 |
The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked;. butBut now he commandethcommands men that theyall shouldpeople all everywhere should repent:, |
| 17:31 |
inasmuchbecause as he hathhas appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he hathhas ordained; whereofof which he hathhas given assurance untoto all men, in that he hathhas raised him from the dead. |
| 17:32 |
Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked; but others said, We willwant to hear theeyou again concerning this yet again. |
| 17:34 |
But certain men clavejoined untowith him, and believed:, amongincluding whom also was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them. |
| 18:1 |
After these things hePaul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth. |
| 18:2 |
AndHe he found a certain Jew named Aquila, a man of Pontus by race, latelywho had recently come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to depart from Rome:. andHe he came untoto them;, |
| 18:3 |
and because he waspracticed of the same trade, he abodelived with them, and theyworked, wrought; for by their trade they were tentmakerstent makers. |
| 18:4 |
AndHe he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath,Sabbath and persuaded Jews and Greeks. |
| 18:5 |
ButWhen when Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was constrainedcompelled by the wordSpirit, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ. |
| 18:6 |
AndWhen when they opposed themselveshim and blasphemed, he shook out his raimentclothing and said untoto them, Your blood be uponon your own heads;! I am clean:. fromFrom henceforthnow on, I will go untoto the Gentiles.! |
| 18:7 |
AndHe he departed thence, there and went into the house of a certain man named Titus Justus, one thatwho worshippedworshiped God, whose house joinedwas hardnext door to the synagogue. |
| 18:8 |
And Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord with all his house;. andMany many of the Corinthians, hearingwhen believedthey heard, believed and were baptized. |
| 18:9 |
AndThe the Lord said untoto Paul in the night by a vision, BeDont notbe afraid, but speak and holddont notbe thy peace:silent; |
| 18:10 |
for I am with theeyou, and no manone shallwill setattack onyou thee to harm thee:you, for I have muchmany people in this city. |
| 18:11 |
AndHe helived dwelt there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them. |
| 18:13 |
saying, This man persuadethpersuades men to worship God contrary to the law. |
| 18:14 |
But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said untoto the Jews, If indeed it were a matter of wrong or of wicked villanycrime, Oyou ye Jews, reasonit would be reasonable that I should bear with you:; |
| 18:15 |
but if they are questions about words and names and your own law, look to it yourselves;. For I amdont notwant minded to be a judge of these matters. |
| 18:16 |
AndSo he drove them from the judgment seat. |
| 18:17 |
AndThen they all laidthe holdGreeks onseized Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. And Gallio careddidnt forcare noneabout any of these things. |
| 18:18 |
And Paul, having tarriedstayed after this yet many more days, took his leave of the brethrenbrothers, and sailed thencefrom there for Syria, andtogether with him Priscilla and Aquila:. havingHe shornshaved his head in Cenchreae;, for he had a vow. |
| 18:19 |
AndHe they came to Ephesus, and he left them there:; but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews. |
| 18:20 |
AndWhen when they asked him to abidestay with them a longer time, he consented notdeclined; |
| 18:21 |
but taking his leave of them, andhe sayingsaid, I must by all means keep this coming feast in Jerusalem, but I will return again untoto you if God will, wills. Then he set sail from Ephesus. |
| 18:22 |
AndWhen when he had landed at Caesarea, he went up and salutedgreeted the churchassembly, and went down to Antioch. |
| 18:23 |
AndHaving having spent some time there, he departed, and went through the region of Galatia, and Phrygia, in order, establishing all the disciples. |
| 18:24 |
Now a certain Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by race, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus;. andHe he was mighty in the scripturesScriptures. |
| 18:25 |
This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spakespoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, knowingalthough he knew only the baptism of John:. |
| 18:26 |
andHe he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him unto themaside, and expoundedexplained untoto him the way of God more accurately. |
| 18:27 |
AndWhen when he washad mindeddetermined to pass over into Achaia, the brethrenbrothers encouraged him,; and wrote to the disciples to receive him:. andWhen when he washad come, he greatly helped themthose muchwho that had believed through grace; |
| 18:28 |
for he powerfully confutedrefuted the Jews, and that publicly, showing by the scripturesScriptures that Jesus was the Christ. |
| 19:1 |
AndWhile it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul, having passed through the upper country, came to Ephesus, and found certain disciples:. |
| 19:2 |
andHe he said untoto them, Did yeyou receive the Holy Spirit when yeyou believed? AndThey they said untoto him, NayNo, we didhavent noteven soheard muchthat asthere hearis whethera the Holy Spirit was given. |
| 19:3 |
AndHe he said, Into what then were yeyou baptized? AndThey they said, Into Johns baptism. |
| 19:4 |
And Paul said, John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying untoto the people that they should believe onin himthe thatone shouldwho would come after him, that is, onin Christ Jesus. |
| 19:5 |
AndWhen when they heard this, they were baptized intoin the name of the Lord Jesus. |
| 19:6 |
AndWhen when Paul had laid his hands uponon them, the Holy Spirit came on them; and they spakespoke with tongues, other languages and prophesied. |
| 19:7 |
AndThey they were in all about twelve men in all. |
| 19:8 |
AndHe he entered into the synagogue, and spakespoke boldly for thea spaceperiod of three months, reasoning and persuading asabout to the things concerning theGods kingdom of GodKingdom. |
| 19:9 |
But when some were hardened and disobedient, speaking evil of the Way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus. |
| 19:10 |
AndThis this continued for the space of two years;, so that all theythose thatwho dweltlived in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks. |
| 19:11 |
And God wroughtworked special miracles by the hands of Paul:, |
| 19:12 |
insomuchso that untoeven thehandkerchiefs sickor aprons were carried away from his body handkerchiefsto orthe apronssick, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out. |
| 19:13 |
But certainsome also of the strollingitinerant Jews, exorcists, took uponon themthemselves to nameinvoke over themthose thatwho had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, IWe adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preachethpreaches. |
| 19:14 |
AndThere there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew,Jewish a chief priest, who did this. |
| 19:15 |
AndThe the evil spirit answered and said unto them, Jesus I know, and Paul I know;, but who are yeyou? |
| 19:16 |
AndThe the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, andoverpowered mastered both of them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. |
| 19:17 |
AndThis this became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, thatwho dweltlived at Ephesus;. andFear fear fell uponon them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. |
| 19:18 |
Many also of themthose thatwho had believed came, confessing, and declaring their deeds. |
| 19:19 |
AndMany not a few of themthose thatwho practisedpracticed magical arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all;. andThey they counted thetheir price of them, and found it to be fifty thousand pieces of silver. |
| 19:20 |
So mightily grew the word of the Lord was growing and prevailedbecoming mighty. |
| 19:21 |
Now after these things werehad ended, Paul purposeddetermined in the spiritSpirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome. |
| 19:22 |
AndHaving having sent into Macedonia two of themthose thatwho ministeredserved unto him, Timothy and Erastus, he himself stayed in Asia for a while. |
| 19:23 |
AndAbout about that time there arose no small stirdisturbance concerning the Way. |
| 19:24 |
For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of DianaArtemis, brought no little business untoto the craftsmen;, |
| 19:25 |
whom he gathered together, with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, yeyou know that by this business we have our wealth. |
| 19:26 |
AndYou ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus alone, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hathhas persuaded and turned away muchmany people, saying that they are no gods, that are made with hands:. |
| 19:27 |
andNot not only is there danger that this our trade come into disrepute;, but also that the temple of the great goddess DianaArtemis will be madecounted ofas nonothing account, and thather shemajesty shoulddestroyed, even be deposed from her magnificence whom all Asia and the world worshippethworships. |
| 19:28 |
AndWhen when they heard this they were filled with wrathanger, and cried out, saying, Great is DianaArtemis of the Ephesians.! |
| 19:29 |
AndThe thewhole city was filled with the confusion:, and they rushed with one accord into the theatretheater, having seized Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Pauls companions in travel. |
| 19:30 |
AndWhen when Paul waswanted minded to enter in untoto the people, the disciples suffereddidnt allow him not. |
| 19:31 |
AndCertain certain also of the Asiarchs, being his friends, sent untoto him and besoughtbegged him not to adventureventure himself into the theatretheater. |
| 19:32 |
Some therefore cried one thing, and some another:, for the assembly was in confusion;. andMost theof morethem partdidnt knewknow notwhy wherefore they werehad come together. |
| 19:33 |
AndThey they brought Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with thehis hand, and would have made a defencedefense untoto the people. |
| 19:34 |
But when they perceived that he was a Jew, all with one voice aboutfor thea spacetime of about two hours cried out, Great is DianaArtemis of the Ephesians.! |
| 19:35 |
AndWhen when the townclerktown clerk had quieted the multitude, he saithsaid, YeYou men of Ephesus, what man is there who knowethdoesnt notknow that the city of the Ephesians is temple keeper of the great Dianagoddess Artemis, and of the image which fell down from JupiterZeus? |
| 19:36 |
Seeing then that these things cannotcant be gainsaiddenied, yeyou ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rash. |
| 19:37 |
For yeyou have brought hither these men here, who are neither robbers of temples nor blasphemers of ouryour goddess. |
| 19:38 |
If therefore Demetrius, and the craftsmen thatwho are with him, have a matter against any mananyone, the courts are open, and there are proconsuls:. letLet them accusepress charges against one another. |
| 19:39 |
But if yeyou seek anything about other matters, it shallwill be settled in the regular assembly. |
| 19:40 |
For indeed we are in danger toof bebeing accused concerning thistodays days riot, there being no cause. forConcerning it:, and as touching it we shallwouldnt not be able to give an account of this concoursecommotion. |
| 19:41 |
AndWhen when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly. |
| 20:1 |
AndAfter after the uproar had ceased, Paul having sent for the disciples and exhorted them, took leave of them, and departed to go into Macedonia. |
| 20:2 |
AndWhen when he had gone through those parts, and had givenencouraged them muchwith exhortationmany words, he came into Greece. |
| 20:3 |
AndWhen when he had spent three months there, and a plot was laidmade against him by the Jews as he was about to set sail for Syria, he determined to return through Macedonia. |
| 20:4 |
AndThese there accompanied him as far as Asia,: Sopater of Beroea, theAristarchus sonand ofSecundus Pyrrhus; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timothy;, and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus of Asia. |
| 20:5 |
But these had gone beforeahead, and were waiting for us at Troas. |
| 20:6 |
AndWe we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavenedUnleavened breadBread, and came untoto them toat Troas in five days;, where we tarriedstayed seven days. |
| 20:7 |
AndOn upon the first day of the week, when wethe disciples were gathered together to break bread, Paul discoursedtalked with them, intending to depart on the morrownext day; and prolongedcontinued his speech until midnight. |
| 20:8 |
AndThere there were many lights in the upper chamberroom where we were gathered together. |
| 20:9 |
AndA there sat in the window a certain young man named Eutychus sat in the window, borneweighed down with deep sleep;. andAs as Paul discoursedspoke yetstill longer, being borneweighed down by his sleep, he fell down from the third story, floor and was taken up dead. |
| 20:10 |
And Paul went down, and fell onupon him, and embracing him said, MakeDont yebe notroubled, ado; for his life is in him. |
| 20:11 |
AndWhen when he washad gone up, and had broken the bread, and eaten, and had talked with them a long while, even tilluntil break of day, so he departed. |
| 20:12 |
AndThey they brought the ladboy in alive, and were notgreatly a little comforted. |
| 20:13 |
But we, going beforeahead to the ship, set sail for Assos, there intending to take in Paul: aboard there; for sohe had heso appointedarranged, intending himself to go by land. |
| 20:14 |
AndWhen when he met us at Assos, we took him in,aboard and came to Mitylene. |
| 20:15 |
AndSailing sailing from thencethere, we came the following day overopposite against Chios;. andThe the next day we touched at Samos; and stayed at Trogyllium, and the day after we came to Miletus. |
| 20:16 |
For Paul had determined to sail past Ephesus, that he might not have to spend time in Asia; for he was hastening, if it were possible for him, to be atin Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost. |
| 20:17 |
AndFrom from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called to himhimself the elders of the churchassembly. |
| 20:18 |
AndWhen when they werehad come to him, he said untoto them, YeYou yourselves know, from the first day that I set foot in Asia, afterhow what manner I was with you all the time, |
| 20:19 |
serving the Lord with all lowliness of mindhumility, and with many tears, and with trials which befellhappened to me by the plots of the Jews; |
| 20:20 |
how I shrankdidnt notshrink from declaring untoto you anything that was profitable, and teaching you publicly, and from house to house, |
| 20:21 |
testifying both to Jews and to Greeks repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. |
| 20:22 |
And nowNow, behold, I go bound inby the spiritSpirit untoto Jerusalem, not knowing thewhat thingswill thathappen shallto befall me there:; |
| 20:23 |
saveexcept that the Holy Spirit testifiethtestifies unto me in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abidewait for me. |
| 20:24 |
But Ithese holdthings notdont mycount; lifenor ofdo anyI accounthold asmy life dear untoto myself, so that I may accomplishfinish my courserace with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to fully testify to the gospelGood News of the grace of God. |
| 20:25 |
And nowNow, behold, I know that yeyou all, among whom I went about preaching theGods kingdomKingdom, shallwill see my face no more. |
| 20:26 |
WhereforeTherefore I testify untoto you thistoday day, that I am pureclean from the blood of all men., |
| 20:27 |
Forfor I shrankdidnt notshrink from declaring untoto you the whole counsel of God. |
| 20:28 |
Take heed, untotherefore, to yourselves, and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit hathhas made you bishopsoverseers, to feedshepherd the churchassembly of the Lord and God which he purchased with his own blood. |
| 20:29 |
For I know that after my departingdeparture, grievousvicious wolves shallwill enter in among you, not sparing the flock;. |
| 20:30 |
andMen will arise from among your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them. |
| 20:31 |
WhereforeTherefore watch ye, remembering that byfor thea spaceperiod of three years I ceaseddidnt notcease to admonish everyeveryone one night and day with tears. |
| 20:32 |
AndNow, nowbrothers, I commendentrust you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you the inheritance among all themthose thatwho are sanctified. |
| 20:33 |
I coveted no mansones silver, or gold, or apparelclothing. |
| 20:34 |
YeYou yourselves know that these hands ministeredserved unto my necessities, and tothose themwho that were with me. |
| 20:35 |
In all things I gave you an example, that so laboring yeyou ought to help the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. |
| 20:36 |
AndWhen when he had thusspoken spokenthese things, he kneeledknelt down and prayed with them all. |
| 20:37 |
AndThey they all wept sorefreely, and fell on Pauls neck and kissed him, |
| 20:38 |
sorrowing most of all forbecause of the word which he had spoken, that they should beholdsee his face no more. AndThen they broughtaccompanied him onto his way unto the ship. |
| 21:1 |
AndWhen when it came to pass that we werehad parteddeparted from them and had set sail, we came with a straight course untoto Cos, and the next day untoto Rhodes, and from thencethere untoto Patara:. |
| 21:2 |
andHaving having found a ship crossing over untoto Phoenicia, we went aboard, and set sail. |
| 21:3 |
AndWhen when we had come in sight of Cyprus, leaving it on the left hand, we sailed untoto Syria, and landed at Tyre;, for there the ship was there to unladeunload her burdencargo. |
| 21:4 |
AndHaving having found the disciples, we tarriedstayed there seven days:. andThese these said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not setgo footup into Jerusalem. |
| 21:5 |
AndWhen whenthose itdays camewere to pass that we had accomplished the daysover, we departed and went on our journey;. andThey they all, with wives and children, brought us on our way tilluntil we were out of the city:. andKneeling kneeling down on the beach, we prayed, and bade each other farewell;. |
| 21:6 |
andAfter saying goodbye to each other, we went on board the ship, butand they returned home again. |
| 21:7 |
AndWhen when we had finished the voyage from Tyre, we arrived at Ptolemais;. andWe wegreeted saluted the brethren, brothers and abodestayed with them one day. |
| 21:8 |
AndOn on the morrownext day, we who were Pauls companions departed, and came untoto Caesarea:. andWe enteringentered into the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, weand abodestayed with him. |
| 21:9 |
Now this man had four virgin daughters, who prophesied. |
| 21:10 |
AndAs as we tarriedstayed there some days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus came down from Judea. |
| 21:11 |
AndComing coming to us, and taking Pauls girdlebelt, he bound his own feet and hands, and said, ThusThe saith the Holy Spirit, says: So shall the Jews at Jerusalem will bind the man thatwho ownethowns this girdlebelt, and shallwill deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles. |
| 21:12 |
AndWhen when we heard these things, both we and theythe people of that place besoughtbegged him not to go up to Jerusalem. |
| 21:13 |
Then Paul answered, What doare yeyou doing, weeping and breaking my heart? forFor I am ready not only to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus. |
| 21:14 |
AndWhen when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The Lords will of the Lord be done. |
| 21:15 |
AndAfter after these days we took up our baggage and went up to Jerusalem. |
| 21:16 |
AndSome there went with us also certain of the disciples from Caesarea, bringingalso went with themus, bringing one Mnason of Cyprus, an early disciple, with whom we shouldwould lodgestay. |
| 21:17 |
AndWhen when we werehad come to Jerusalem, the brethrenbrothers received us gladly. |
| 21:18 |
AndThe the day following, Paul went in with us untoto James; and all the elders were present. |
| 21:19 |
AndWhen when he had salutedgreeted them, he rehearsedreported one by one the things which God had wroughtworked among the Gentiles through his ministry. |
| 21:20 |
And theyThey, when they heard it, glorified God;. andThey they said untoto him, ThouYou seestsee, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of themthose thatwho have believed;, and they are all zealous for the law:. |
| 21:21 |
andThey they have been informed concerningabout theeyou, that thouyou teachestteach all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children, neitherand not to walk after the customs. |
| 21:22 |
What isthen? itThe therefore?assembly must certainly meet, for they will certainly hear that thouyou arthave come. |
| 21:23 |
DoTherefore thereforedo thiswhat that we saytell toyou. thee: We have four men thatwho have taken a vow on them;. |
| 21:24 |
theseTake take, them and purify thyselfyourself with them, and bepay attheir chargesexpenses for them, that they may shave their heads:. andThen all shallwill know that there is no truth in the things whereofthat they have been informed concerningabout thee;you, but that thouyou thyselfyourself also walkestwalk orderly, keeping the law. |
| 21:25 |
But asconcerning touching the Gentiles thatwho have believedbelieve, we wrote, have givingwritten judgmentour decision that they should observe no such thing, except that they should keep themselves from thingsfood sacrificedoffered to idols, and from blood, and from whatstrangled is strangledthings, and from fornicationsexual immorality. |
| 21:26 |
Then Paul took the men, and the next day purifyingpurified himself and went with them went into the temple, declaring the fulfilmentfulfillment of the days of purification, until the offering was offered for every one of them. |
| 21:27 |
AndWhen when the seven days were almost completed, the Jews from Asia, when they saw him in the temple, stirred up all the multitude and laid hands on him, |
| 21:28 |
crying out, Men of Israel, help:! This is the man thatwho teachethteaches all men everywhere against the people, and the law, and this place;. andMoreover, moreover he also brought Greeks also into the temple, and hathhas defiled this holy place.! |
| 21:29 |
For they had before seen Trophimus the Ephesian, with him in the city Trophimus the Ephesian, whomand they supposed that Paul had brought him into the temple. |
| 21:30 |
AndAll all the city was moved, and the people ran together;. andThey theyseized laid hold on Paul, and dragged him out of the temple:. andImmediately straightway the doors were shut. |
| 21:31 |
AndAs as they were seekingtrying to kill him, tidingsnews came up to the chiefcommanding captainofficer of the band, regiment that all Jerusalem was in confusionan uproar. |
| 21:32 |
AndImmediately forthwith he took soldiers and centurions, and ran down uponto them:. and theyThey, when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, leftstopped off beating Paul. |
| 21:33 |
Then the chiefcommanding captainofficer came near, andarrested laid hold on him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains;, and inquired who he was, and what he had done. |
| 21:34 |
AndSome some shouted one thing, and some another, among the crowd:. andWhen when he couldcouldnt notfind knowout the certaintytruth forbecause of the uproarnoise, he commanded him to be brought into the castlebarracks. |
| 21:35 |
AndWhen when he came uponto the stairs, so it was that he was bornecarried ofby the soldiers forbecause of the violence of the crowd; |
| 21:36 |
for the multitude of the people followed after, crying out, Away with him.! |
| 21:37 |
AndAs as Paul was about to be brought into the castlebarracks, he saithasked unto the chiefcommanding captainofficer, May I sayspeak somethingto unto theeyou? AndHe he said, DostDo thouyou know Greek? |
| 21:38 |
ArtArent thouyou not then the Egyptian, who before these days stirred up to sedition and led out into the wilderness the four thousand men of the Assassins? |
| 21:39 |
But Paul said, I am a Jew, offrom Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no meaninsignificant city:. and I beseechbeg theeyou, giveallow me leave to speak untoto the people. |
| 21:40 |
AndWhen when he had given him leavepermission, Paul, standing on the stairs, beckoned with thehis hand untoto the people;. andWhen when there was made a great silence, he spakespoke untoto them in the Hebrew language, saying, |
| 22:1 |
BrethrenBrothers and fathers, hearlisten yeto the defencedefense which I now make untoto you. |
| 22:2 |
AndWhen when they heard that he spakespoke untoto them in the Hebrew language, they were theeven more quiet:. andHe he saithsaid, |
| 22:3 |
I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city, at the feet of Gamaliel, instructed according to the strict mannertradition of the law of our fathers, being zealous for God, even as yeyou all are this day:today. |
| 22:4 |
and I persecuted this Way untoto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women., |
| 22:5 |
Asas also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estatecouncil of the elders: testify, from whom also I received letters untoto the brethrenbrothers, and journeyedtraveled to Damascus to bring them also thatwho were there untoto Jerusalem in bonds to be punished. |
| 22:6 |
AndAs it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and drewcame nighclose untoto Damascus, about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light roundshone aboutaround me from the sky. |
| 22:7 |
And I fell untoto the ground, and heard a voice saying untoto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutestare thouyou persecuting me? |
| 22:8 |
And I answered, Who artare thouyou, Lord? AndHe he said untoto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thouyou persecutestpersecute. |
| 22:9 |
AndThose theywho that were with me beheld indeed saw the light and were afraid, but they hearddidnt notunderstand the voice of him thatwho spakespoke to me. |
| 22:10 |
And I said, What shall I do, Lord? AndThe the Lord said untoto me, Arise, and go into Damascus;. andThere thereyou itwill shall be told theeabout of all things which are appointed for theeyou to do. |
| 22:11 |
AndWhen when I couldcouldnt not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of themthose thatwho were with me, I came into Damascus. |
| 22:12 |
AndOne one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, well reported of by all the Jews thatwho dweltlived therein Damascus, |
| 22:13 |
came untoto me, and standing by me said untoto me, Brother Saul, receive thyyour sight.! AndIn in that very hour I looked up onat him. |
| 22:14 |
AndHe he said, The God of our fathers hathhas appointed theeyou to know his will, and to see the Righteous One, and to hear a voice from his mouth. |
| 22:15 |
For thouyou shaltwill be a witness for him untoto all men of what thouyou hasthave seen and heard. |
| 22:16 |
AndNow now why tarriestdo thouyou wait? ariseArise, and be baptized, and wash away thyyour sins, calling on histhe name of the Lord. |
| 22:17 |
AndWhen it came to pass, that, when I had returned to Jerusalem, and while I prayed in the temple, I fell into a trance, |
| 22:18 |
and saw him saying untoto me, MakeHurry haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem; quickly, because they will not receive of thee testimony concerning me from you. |
| 22:19 |
And I said, Lord, they themselves know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue themthose thatwho believed onin thee:you. |
| 22:20 |
andWhen when the blood of Stephen, thyyour witness, was shed, I also was standing by, andconsenting consentingto his death, and keepingguarding the garmentscloaks of themthose thatwho slewkilled him. |
| 22:21 |
AndHe he said untoto me, Depart:, for I will send theeyou forthout far hencefrom untohere to the Gentiles. |
| 22:22 |
AndThey theylistened gaveto him audienceuntil untohe thissaid wordthat; andthen they lifted up their voice, and said, AwayRid withthe suchearth aof this fellow, from the earth: for ithe isisnt not fit thatto he should live.! |
| 22:23 |
AndAs as they cried out, and threw off their garmentscloaks, and castthrew dust into the air, |
| 22:24 |
the chiefcommanding captainofficer commanded him to be brought into the castlebarracks, biddingordering thathim heto should be examined by scourging, that he might know for what causecrime they so shouted against him like that. |
| 22:25 |
AndWhen when they had tied him up with the thongsstraps, Paul saidasked unto the centurion thatwho stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man thatwho is a Roman, and uncondemnednot found guilty? |
| 22:26 |
AndWhen when the centurion heard it, he went to the chiefcommanding captainofficer and told him, saying,Watch Whatwhat artyou thouare about to do?, for this man is a Roman.! |
| 22:27 |
AndThe thecommanding chiefofficer captain came and saidasked unto him, Tell me, artare thouyou a Roman? AndHe he said, YeaYes. |
| 22:28 |
AndThe thecommanding chiefofficer captain answered, WithI abought greatmy sumcitizenship obtainedfor Ia thisgreat citizenshipprice. And Paul said, But I amwas born a Roman born. |
| 22:29 |
TheyImmediately thenthose thatwho were about to examine him straightway departed from him:, and the chiefcommanding captainofficer also was afraid when he knewrealized that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him. |
| 22:30 |
But on the morrownext day, desiring to know the certaintytruth whereforeabout why he was accused ofby the Jews, he loosedfreed him, from the bonds and commanded the chief priests and all the council to come together, and brought Paul down and set him before them. |
| 23:1 |
And Paul, looking stedfastlysteadfastly onat the council, said, BrethrenBrothers, I have lived before God in all good conscience until this daytoday. |
| 23:2 |
AndThe the high priest, Ananias, commanded themthose thatwho stood by him to smitestrike him on the mouth. |
| 23:3 |
Then Paul said Paulto unto him, God shallwill smitestrike theeyou, thouyou whitedwhitewashed wall:! andDo sittestyou thousit to judge me according to the law, and commandestcommand me to be smittenstruck contrary to the law? |
| 23:4 |
AndThose theywho that stood by said, RevilestDo thouyou malign Gods high priest? |
| 23:5 |
And Paul said, I knewdidnt notknow, brethrenbrothers, that he was high priest:. forFor it is written, ThouYou shaltshall not speak evil of a ruler of thyyour people. |
| 23:6 |
But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, BrethrenMen and brothers, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees:. touchingConcerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am calledbeing in question.judged! |
| 23:7 |
AndWhen when he had sosaid saidthis, therean argument arose a dissension between the Pharisees and Sadducees;, and the assemblycrowd was divided. |
| 23:8 |
For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neithernor angel, nor spirit; but the Pharisees confess bothall of these. |
| 23:9 |
AndA there arose a great clamor: arose, and some of the scribes of the Pharisees part stood up, and strovecontended, saying, We find no evil in this man:. andBut what if a spirit hathor angel has spoken to him, orlets annot angel?fight against God! |
| 23:10 |
AndWhen when there arose a great dissensionargument arose, the chiefcommanding captainofficer, fearing lestthat Paul shouldwould be torn in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down and take him by force from among them, and bring him into the castlebarracks. |
| 23:11 |
AndThe thefollowing night, following the Lord stood by him, and said, BeCheer ofup, goodPaul, cheer: for as thouyou hasthave testified concerningabout me at Jerusalem, so you must thoutestify bear witness also at Rome. |
| 23:12 |
AndWhen when it was day, some of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink tilluntil they had killed Paul. |
| 23:13 |
AndThere they were more than forty thatpeople who had made this conspiracy. |
| 23:14 |
AndThey they came to the chief priests and the elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, to taste nothing until we have killed Paul. |
| 23:15 |
Now therefore, doyou ye with the council signifyinform to the chiefcommanding captainofficer that he should bring him down untoto you tomorrow, as though yeyou wouldwere going to judge of his case more exactly:. andWe we,are ready to kill him before he comes near, are ready to slay him. |
| 23:16 |
But Pauls sisters son heard ofthey theirwere lying in wait, and he came and entered into the castlebarracks and told Paul. |
| 23:17 |
And Paul calledsummoned unto him one of the centurions, and said, Bring this young man untoto the chiefcommanding captain;officer, for he hathhas something to tell him. |
| 23:18 |
So he took him, and brought him to the chiefcommanding captain, officer and saithsaid, Paul, the prisoner, calledsummoned me unto him, and asked me to bring this young man untoto thee, you. whoHe hathhas something to saytell to theeyou. |
| 23:19 |
AndThe thecommanding chiefofficer captain took him by the hand, and going aside, asked him privately, What is it that thouyou hasthave to tell me? |
| 23:20 |
AndHe he said, The Jews have agreed to ask theeyou to bring Paul down Paul to morrow unto the council tomorrow, as though thouintending wouldestto inquire somewhat more exactlyaccurately concerning him. |
| 23:21 |
DoTherefore notdont thou therefore yield untoto them:, for theremore than forty men lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, who have bound themselves under a curse, to neither to eat nor to drink tilluntil they have slainkilled him:. andNow nowthey are they ready, looking for the promise from theeyou. |
| 23:22 |
So the chiefcommanding captainofficer let the young man go, charging him, Tell no manone that thouyou hasthave signifiedrevealed these things to me. |
| 23:23 |
AndHe he called untoto himhimself two of the centurions, and said, MakePrepare ready two hundred soldiers to go as far as Caesarea, andwith seventy horsemen threescore and ten,two andhundred spearmenmen twoarmed hundredwith spears, at the third hour of the night:. |
| 23:24 |
andHe heasked bade them to provide beastsmounts, that they might set Paul thereonon one, and bring him safesafely untoto Felix the governor. |
| 23:25 |
AndHe he wrote a letter afterlike this form: |
| 23:26 |
Claudius Lysias untoto the most excellent governor Felix,: greetingGreetings. |
| 23:27 |
This man was seized by the Jews, and was about to be slainkilled ofby them, when I came upon them with the soldiers and rescued him, having learned that he was a Roman. |
| 23:28 |
AndDesiring desiring to know the cause whereforewhy they accused him, I brought him down untoto their council:. |
| 23:29 |
whom I found him to be accused about questions of their law, but not to havebe nothingcharged laidwith toanything his charge worthy of death or of bondsimprisonment. |
| 23:30 |
AndWhen whenI it was showntold to me that therethe wouldJews belay ain plotwait againstfor the man, I sent him to theeyou forthwithimmediately, charging his accusers also to speakbring their accusations against him before theeyou. Farewell. |
| 23:31 |
So the soldiers, ascarrying itout wastheir commanded themorders, took Paul and brought him by night to Antipatris. |
| 23:32 |
But on the morrownext day they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle:barracks. |
| 23:33 |
andWhen they, when they came to Caesarea and delivered the letter to the governor, they also presented Paul alsoto before him. |
| 23:34 |
AndWhen whenthe hegovernor had read it, he asked of what province he was; andfrom. whenWhen he understood that he was offrom Cilicia, he said, |
| 23:35 |
I will hear theeyou fully, said he, when thineyour accusers also arearrive. come:He and he commanded himthat tohe be kept in Herods palace. |
| 24:1 |
AndAfter after five days, the high priest, Ananias, came down with certain elders, and with an orator, one Tertullus;. andThey they informed the governor against Paul. |
| 24:2 |
AndWhen when he was called, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by theeyou we enjoy much peace, and that byprosperity thyis providencecoming evilsto arethis correctednation forby thisyour nationforesight, |
| 24:4 |
But, that I bedont notdelay further tedious unto theeyou, I entreat theeyou to hearbear with us ofand thyhear clemency a few words. |
| 24:5 |
For we have found this man to be a pestilent fellowplague, andan ainstigator mover of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:. |
| 24:6 |
whoHe moreovereven assayedtried to profane the temple:, onand whom also we laidarrested hold:him. |
| 24:8 |
fromBy whom thou wilt be able, by examining him thyself, yourself toyou takemay knowledgeascertain of all these things whereofof which we accuse him. |
| 24:9 |
AndThe the Jews also joined in the chargeattack, affirming that these things were so. |
| 24:10 |
AndWhen when the governor had beckoned untoto him to speak, Paul answered, ForasmuchBecause as I know that thouyou hasthave been of many years a judge untoof this nation for many years, I cheerfully make my defence:defense, |
| 24:11 |
seeing that thouyou canstcan takeverify knowledge that it is not more than twelve days since I went up to worship at Jerusalem:. |
| 24:12 |
andIn neither in the temple did they didnt find me disputing with anyanyone man or stirring up a crowd, noreither in the synagogues, noror in the city. |
| 24:13 |
NeitherNor can they prove to theeyou the things whereofof which they now accuse me. |
| 24:14 |
But this I confess untoto theeyou, that afteraccording to the Way, which they call a sect, so I serve I the God of our fathers, believing all things which are according to the law, and which are written in the prophets; |
| 24:15 |
having hope toward God, which these also themselves look for, that there shallwill be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust. |
| 24:16 |
HereinIn this I also exercisepractice myselfalways tohaving have a conscience void of offenceoffense toward God and men always. |
| 24:17 |
Now after some years, I came to bring almsgifts for the needy to my nation, and offerings:; |
| 24:18 |
amidstamid which theycertain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, not with noa crowdmob, nor yet with tumult: but there were certain Jews from Asia—turmoil. |
| 24:19 |
whoThey ought to have been here before thee, you and to make accusation, if they had aughtanything against me. |
| 24:20 |
Or else let these men themselves say what wronginjustice doing they found in me when I stood before the council, |
| 24:21 |
exceptunless it beis for this one voice, thing that I cried standing among them, TouchingConcerning the resurrection of the dead I am calledbeing injudged question before you this day.today! |
| 24:22 |
But Felix, having more exact knowledge concerning the Way, deferred them, saying, When Lysias, the chiefcommanding captainofficer, shallcomes come down, I will determinedecide your mattercase. |
| 24:23 |
AndHe heordered gave order to the centurion that hePaul should be kept in charge, custody and should have indulgence;some privileges, and not to forbid any of his friends to ministerserve untohim or to visit him. |
| 24:24 |
ButAfter aftersome certain days, Felix came with Drusilla, his wife, who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ Jesus. |
| 24:25 |
AndAs as he reasoned ofabout righteousness, and self control, and the judgment to come, Felix was terrified, and answered, Go thyyour way for this time;, and when Iit haveis a convenient seasonfor me, I will callsummon thee unto meyou. |
| 24:26 |
HeMeanwhile, he also hoped withal that money would be given to him ofby Paul:, whereforethat he might release him. Therefore also he sent for him themore oftener, often and communedtalked with him. |
| 24:27 |
But when two years were fulfilled, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus;, and desiring to gain favor with the Jews, Felix left Paul in bonds. |
| 25:2 |
AndThen the chiefhigh priestspriest and the principal men of the Jews informed him against Paul;, and they besoughtbegged him, |
| 25:3 |
asking a favor against him, that he would sendsummon for him to Jerusalem;, layingplotting a plot to kill him on the way. |
| 25:4 |
HowbeitHowever Festus answered, that Paul wasshould be kept in chargecustody at Caesarea, and that he himself was about to depart thither shortly. |
| 25:5 |
Let them therefore, saithhe hesaid, that are ofin power among you go down with me, and if there is anything amisswrong in the man, let them accuse him. |
| 25:6 |
AndWhen when he had tarriedstayed among them not more than eight or ten days, he went down untoto Caesarea;, and on the morrownext day he sat on the judgment seat, and commanded Paul to be brought. |
| 25:7 |
AndWhen when he washad come, the Jews thatwho had come down from Jerusalem stood roundaround about him, bringing against him many and grievous charges which they could not prove;, |
| 25:8 |
while Paulhe said in his defencedefense, Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar, have I sinned at all. |
| 25:9 |
But Festus, desiring to gain favor with the Jews, answered Paul and said, WiltAre thouyou willing to go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged ofby me there concerning these things before me? |
| 25:10 |
But Paul said, I am standing before Caesars judgment seat, where I ought to be judged:tried. toI the Jews have I done no wrong to the Jews, as thouyou also know very well knowest. |
| 25:11 |
IfFor thenif I amhave adone wrong doer, and have committed anything worthy of death, I dont refuse not to die; but if none of those things is true whereofthat thesethey accuse me of, no manone can give me up untoto them. I appeal untoto Caesar.! |
| 25:12 |
Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, ThouYou hasthave appealed untoto Caesar:. untoTo Caesar shaltyou thoushall go. |
| 25:13 |
Now when certainsome days werehad passed, King Agrippa the king and Bernice arrived at Caesarea, and salutedgreeted Festus. |
| 25:14 |
AndAs ashe theystayed tarried there many days, Festus laid Pauls case before the king, saying, There is a certain man left a prisoner by Felix; |
| 25:15 |
about whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, asking for a sentence against him. |
| 25:16 |
To whom I answered, them that it is not the custom of the Romans to give up any man, to destruction before that the accused havehas met the accusers face to face, and havehas had opportunity to make his defencedefense concerning the matter laid against him. |
| 25:17 |
When therefore they werehad come together here, I madedidnt no delay, but on the next day sat on the judgment seat, and commanded the man to be brought. |
| 25:18 |
ConcerningWhen whom, when the accusers stood up, they brought no chargecharges against him of such evil things as I supposed; |
| 25:19 |
but had certain questions against him ofabout their own religion, and ofabout one Jesus, who was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive. |
| 25:20 |
AndBeing I, being perplexed how to inquire concerning these things, I asked whether he wouldwas willing to go to Jerusalem and there be judged ofconcerning these matters. |
| 25:21 |
But when Paul had appealed to be kept for the decision of the emperor, I commanded him to be kept tilluntil I shouldcould send him to Caesar. |
| 25:22 |
And Agrippa said untoto Festus, I also couldwould wishlike to hear the man myself. To morrowTomorrow, saithhe hesaid, thouyou shaltshall hear him. |
| 25:23 |
So on the morrownext day, when Agrippa was come, and Bernice, had come with great pomp, and they werehad entered into the place of hearing with the chiefcommanding captainsofficers and the principal men of the city, at the command of Festus, Paul was brought in. |
| 25:24 |
And Festus saithsaid, King Agrippa, and all men who are here present with us, yeyou beholdsee this man, about whom all the multitude of the Jews madepetitioned suit to me, both at Jerusalem and here, crying that he ought not to live any longer. |
| 25:25 |
But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death:, and as he himself appealed to the emperor, I determined to send him., |
| 25:26 |
Ofof whom I have no certain thing to write untoto my Lord. WhereforeTherefore I have brought him forthout before you, and speciallyespecially before theeyou, kingKing Agrippa, that, after examination had, I may have somewhatsomething to write. |
| 25:27 |
For it seemethseems to me unreasonable, in sending a prisoner, not withal to signifyalso specify the charges against him. |
| 26:1 |
And Agrippa said untoto Paul, ThouYou artmay permitted to speak for thyselfyourself. Then Paul stretched forthout his hand, and made his defence:defense. |
| 26:2 |
I think myself happy, kingKing Agrippa, that I am to make my defencedefense before theeyou thistoday dayconcerning touching all the things whereofthat I am accused by the Jews:, |
| 26:3 |
especially because thouyou artare expert in all customs and questions which are among the Jews:. whereforeTherefore I beseechbeg theeyou to hear me patiently. |
| 26:4 |
MyIndeed, mannerall the Jews know my way of life then from my youth up, which was from the beginning among minemy own nation and at Jerusalem, know all the Jews; |
| 26:5 |
having knowledgeknown of me from the first, if they beare willing to testify, that after the straiteststrictest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee. |
| 26:6 |
AndNow now I stand here to be judged for the hope of the promise made ofby God untoto our fathers;, |
| 26:7 |
unto which promise our twelve tribes, earnestly serving God night and day, hope to attain. AndConcerning concerning this hope I am accused by the Jews, OKing kingAgrippa! |
| 26:8 |
Why is it judged incredible with you, if God dothdoes raise the dead? |
| 26:9 |
I verilymyself thoughtmost withcertainly myselfthought that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth. |
| 26:10 |
And this I also did this in Jerusalem:. and I both shut up many of the saints in prisons, having received authority from the chief priests,; and when they were put to death I gave my vote against them. |
| 26:11 |
AndPunishing punishing them oftentimesoften in all the synagogues, I strovetried to make them blaspheme;. andBeing being exceedingly madenraged against them, I persecuted them even untoto foreign cities. |
| 26:12 |
Whereupon as I journeyedtraveled to Damascus with the authority and commission offrom the chief priests, |
| 26:13 |
at middaynoon, O king, I saw on the way a light from heaventhe sky, abovebrighter thethan brightness of the sun, shining roundaround about me and themthose thatwho journeyedtraveled with me. |
| 26:14 |
AndWhen when we werehad all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice saying untoto me in the Hebrew language, Saul, Saul, why persecutestare thouyou persecuting me? itIt is hard for theeyou to kick against the goadgoads. |
| 26:15 |
And I said, Who artare thouyou, Lord? AndHe the Lord said, I am Jesus, whom thouyou persecutestare persecuting. |
| 26:16 |
But arise, and stand uponon thyyour feet:, for toI thishave endappeared haveto Iyou appearedfor untothis thee, purpose: to appoint theeyou a ministerservant and a witness both of the things whereinwhich thouyou hasthave seen me, and of the things whereinwhich I will appearreveal untoto theeyou; |
| 26:17 |
delivering theeyou from the people, and from the Gentiles, untoto whom I send theeyou, |
| 26:18 |
to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan untoto God, that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among themthose thatwho are sanctified by faith in me. |
| 26:19 |
WhereforeTherefore, OKing king Agrippa, I was not disobedient untoto the heavenly vision:, |
| 26:20 |
but declared bothfirst to them of Damascus first, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the country of JudaeaJudea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, doing works worthy of repentance. |
| 26:21 |
For this causereason the Jews seized me in the temple, and assayedtried to kill me. |
| 26:22 |
Having therefore obtained the help that is from God, I stand untoto this day testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses didsaid saywould should come;happen, |
| 26:23 |
how that the Christ must suffer, and how, that he first by the resurrection of the dead, shouldhe would be first to proclaim light both to thethese people and to the Gentiles. |
| 26:24 |
AndAs as he thus made his defencedefense, Festus saithsaid with a loud voice, Paul, thouyou artare mad;crazy! thyYour muchgreat learning is turningdriving theeyou mad.insane! |
| 26:25 |
But Paulhe saithsaid, I am not madcrazy, most excellent Festus;, but speakboldly forthdeclare words of truth and sobernessreasonableness. |
| 26:26 |
For the king knowethknows of these things, untoto whom also I speak freely:. forFor I am persuaded that none of these things is hidden from him;, for this hathhas not been done in a corner. |
| 26:27 |
King Agrippa, believestdo thouyou believe the prophets? I know that thouyou believestbelieve. |
| 26:28 |
And Agrippa said untoto Paul, With buta little persuasion thouare wouldestyou faintrying to make me a Christian.? |
| 26:29 |
And Paul said, I wouldpray to God, that whether with little or with much, not thouonly onlyyou, but also all that hear me this daytoday, might become such as I am, except for these bonds. |
| 26:30 |
AndThe the king rose up, andwith the governor, and Bernice, and theythose thatwho sat with them:. |
| 26:31 |
andWhen when they had withdrawn, they spakespoke to one to another, saying, This man doethdoes nothing worthy of death or of bonds. |
| 26:32 |
And Agrippa said untoto Festus, This man might have been set atfree liberty, if he had not appealed untoto Caesar. |
| 27:1 |
AndWhen when it was determined that we should sail for Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners to a centurion named Julius, of the Augustan band. |
| 27:2 |
AndEmbarking embarking in a ship of Adramyttium, which was about to sail untoto the places on the coast of Asia, we put to sea, Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us. |
| 27:3 |
AndThe the next day, we touched at Sidon:. and Julius treated Paul kindly, and gave him leavepermission to go untoto his friends and refresh himself. |
| 27:4 |
AndPutting putting to sea from thencethere, we sailed under the lee of Cyprus, because the winds were contrary. |
| 27:5 |
AndWhen when we had sailed across the sea which is off Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, a city of Lycia. |
| 27:6 |
AndThere there the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing for Italy;, and he put us thereinon board. |
| 27:7 |
AndWhen when we had sailed slowly many days, and werehad come with difficulty overopposite against Cnidus, the wind not furtherallowing sufferingus usfurther, we sailed under the lee of Crete, overopposite against Salmone;. |
| 27:8 |
andWith with difficulty coastingsailing along it we came untoto a certain place called Fair Havens;, nighnear whereunto was the city of Lasea. |
| 27:9 |
AndWhen when much time washad spent, passed and the voyage was now dangerous, because the Fast washad now already gone by, Paul admonished them, |
| 27:10 |
and said untoto them, Sirs, I perceive that the voyage will be with injury and much loss, not only of the ladingcargo and the ship, but also of our lives. |
| 27:11 |
But the centurion gave more heed to the master and to the owner of the ship, than to those things which were spoken by Paul. |
| 27:12 |
AndBecause because the haven was not commodioussuitable to winter in, the moremajority part advised togoing put to sea from thencethere, if by any means they could reach Phoenix, and winter there;, which is a havenport of Crete, looking northsouthwest east and south eastnorthwest. |
| 27:13 |
AndWhen when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, they weighed anchor and sailed along Crete, close into shore. |
| 27:14 |
But afterbefore no long, timea therestormy wind beat down from it a tempestuous windshore, which is called Euraquilo:Euroclydon. |
| 27:15 |
andWhen when the ship was caught, and couldcouldnt not face the wind, we gave way to it, and were driven along. |
| 27:16 |
AndRunning running under the lee of a small island called CaudaClauda, we were able, with difficulty, to secure the boat:. |
| 27:17 |
andAfter when they had hoisted it up, they used helps, cables underto girdinghelp reinforce the ship;. and,Fearing fearingthat lest they shouldwould berun castaground uponon the Syrtis sand bars, they lowered the gearsea anchor, and so were driven along. |
| 27:18 |
AndAs as we labored exceedingly with the storm, the next day they began to throw thethings freight overboard;. |
| 27:19 |
andOn the third day, they castthrew out the ships tackle with their own hands the tackling of the ship. |
| 27:20 |
AndWhen when neither sun nor stars shone uponon us for many days, and no small tempeststorm laypressed on us, all hope that we shouldwould be saved was now taken away. |
| 27:21 |
AndWhen when they had been long without food, then Paul stood forthup in the midstmiddle of them, and said, Sirs, yeyou should have hearkenedlistened untoto me, and not have set sail from Crete, and have gotten this injury and loss. |
| 27:22 |
AndNow now I exhort you to becheer ofup, good cheer; for there shallwill be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship. |
| 27:23 |
For there stood by me this night an angel, ofbelonging to the God whose I am, and whom also I serve, |
| 27:24 |
saying, FearDont notbe afraid, Paul;. thouYou must stand before Caesar:. and loBehold, God hathhas granted theeyou all themthose thatwho sail with theeyou. |
| 27:25 |
WhereforeTherefore, sirs, becheer ofup! goodFor cheer: for I believe God, that it shallwill be evenjust so as it hathhas been spoken untoto me. |
| 27:26 |
But we must berun castaground uponon a certain island. |
| 27:27 |
But when the fourteenth night washad come, as we were driven toback and froforth in the seaAdriatic of AdriaSea, about midnight the sailors surmised that they were drawing near to some country:land. |
| 27:28 |
andThey theytook sounded, soundings and found twenty fathoms;. andAfter after a little spacewhile, they soundedtook soundings again, and found fifteen fathoms. |
| 27:29 |
AndFearing fearingthat lest haply we shouldwould berun castaground ashore on rocky ground, they let go four anchors from the stern, and wished for the daydaylight. |
| 27:30 |
AndAs as the sailors were seekingtrying to flee out of the ship, and had lowered the boat into the sea, underpretending colorthat as though they would lay out anchors from the foreshipbow, |
| 27:31 |
Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, ExceptUnless these abidestay in the ship, yeyou cannotcant be saved. |
| 27:32 |
Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the boat, and let herit fall off. |
| 27:33 |
AndWhile while the day was coming on, Paul besoughtbegged them all to take some food, saying, ThisToday day is the fourteenth day that yeyou wait and continue fasting, having taken nothing. |
| 27:34 |
WhereforeTherefore I beseechbeg you to take some food:, for this is for your safety:; for there shall not a hair will perish from theany head of anyyour of youheads. |
| 27:35 |
AndWhen when he had said this, and had taken bread, he gave thanks to God in the presence of all; andthen he brakebroke it, and began to eat. |
| 27:36 |
Then were they all ofcheered good cheerup, and themselvesthey also took food. |
| 27:37 |
AndIn all, we were intwo allhundred inseventy thesix shipsouls twoon hundredthe threescore and sixteen soulsship. |
| 27:38 |
AndWhen when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, throwing out the wheat into the sea. |
| 27:39 |
AndWhen when it was day, they knewdidnt notrecognize the land:, but they perceivednoticed a certain bay with a beach, and they tookdecided counselto whethertry theyto could drive the ship upononto it. |
| 27:40 |
AndCasting casting off the anchors, they left them in the sea, at the same time loosinguntying the bandsrudder ofropes. theHoisting rudders; and hoisting up the foresail to the wind, they made for the beach. |
| 27:41 |
But lightingcoming uponto a place where two seas met, they ran the vessel aground;. andThe thebow foreship struck and remained unmoveableimmovable, but the stern began to break up by the violence of the waves. |
| 27:42 |
AndThe the soldiers counsel was to kill the prisoners, lestso anythat none of them shouldwould swim out, and escape. |
| 27:43 |
But the centurion, desiring to save Paul, stayedstopped them from their purpose;, and commanded that theythose who could swim should castthrow themselves overboard, and get first to go toward the land; |
| 27:44 |
and the rest should follow, some on planks, and some on other things from the ship. AndSo so it came to pass, that they all escaped safesafely to the land. |
| 28:1 |
AndWhen when we werehad escaped, then wethey knewlearned that the island was called MelitaMalta. |
| 28:2 |
AndThe thenatives barbarians showed us nouncommon common kindness:; for they kindled a fire, and received us all, because of the present rain, and because of the cold. |
| 28:3 |
But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out bybecause reason of the heat, and fastened on his hand. |
| 28:4 |
AndWhen when the barbariansnatives saw the venomous creature hanging from his hand, they said to one to another, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hathhas escaped from the sea, yet Justice hathhas not sufferedallowed to live. |
| 28:5 |
HowbeitHowever he shook off the creature into the fire, and tookwasnt no harmharmed. |
| 28:6 |
But they expected that he would have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly:, but when they werewatched for a long intime expectation and beheldsaw nothing amissbad camehappen to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god. |
| 28:7 |
Now in the neighborhood of that place were lands belonging to the chief man of the island, named Publius;, who received us, and courteously entertained us for three days courteously. |
| 28:8 |
AndThe it was so, that the father of Publius lay sick of fever and dysentery:. unto whom Paul entered in to him, and prayed, and laying his hands on him, healed him. |
| 28:9 |
AndThen when this was done, the rest also thatwho had diseases in the island came, and were cured:. |
| 28:10 |
whoThey also honored us with many honors; and when we sailed, they put on board suchthe things asthat we needed. |
| 28:11 |
AndAfter after three months, we set sail in a ship of Alexandria which had wintered in the island, whose signfigurehead was The Twin Brothers. |
| 28:12 |
AndTouching touching at Syracuse, we tarriedstayed there three days. |
| 28:13 |
AndFrom fromthere thence we madecircled aaround circuit, and arrived at Rhegium:. andAfter after one day, a south wind sprang up, and on the second day we came to Puteoli;, |
| 28:14 |
where we found brethrenbrothers, and were entreated to tarrystay with them for seven days:. andSo so we came to Rome. |
| 28:15 |
AndFrom fromthere thence the brethrenbrothers, when they heard of us, came to meet us as far as The Market of Appius and The Three Taverns;. whomWhen when Paul saw them, he thanked God, and took courage. |
| 28:16 |
AndWhen when we entered into Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard, but Paul was sufferedallowed to abidestay by himself with the soldier thatwho guarded him. |
| 28:17 |
AndAfter it came to pass, that after three days hePaul called together those thatwho were the chiefleaders of the Jews:. andWhen when they werehad come together, he said untoto them, I, brethrenbrothers, though I had done nothing against the people, or the customs of our fathers, yetstill was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans:, |
| 28:18 |
who, when they had examined me, desired to set me at libertyfree, because there was no cause of death in me. |
| 28:19 |
But when the Jews spakespoke against it, I was constrained to appeal untoto Caesar;, not that I had aughtanything whereofabout which to accuse my nation. |
| 28:20 |
For this cause therefore did I entreatasked you to see you and to speak with me:you. forFor because of the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain. |
| 28:21 |
AndThey they said untoto him, We neither received letters from JudaeaJudea concerning theeyou, nor did any of the brethrenbrothers come hitherhere and report or speak any harmevil of theeyou. |
| 28:22 |
But we desire to hear offrom theeyou what thouyou thinkest:think. forFor, as concerning this sect, it is known to us that everywhere it is spoken against. |
| 28:23 |
AndWhen when they had appointed him a day, theymany people came to him intoat his lodging. inHe greatexplained number; to whom he expounded the matterthem, testifying theabout kingdomGods of GodKingdom, and persuading them concerning Jesus, both from the law of Moses and from the prophets, from morning tilluntil evening. |
| 28:24 |
AndSome some believed the things which were spoken, and some disbelieved. |
| 28:25 |
AndWhen when they agreeddidnt notagree among themselves, they departed after that Paul had spoken one word, message: WellThe spake the Holy Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah the prophet untoto yourour fathers, |
| 28:26 |
saying, Go thouto unto this people, and say, Byin hearing, yeyou shallwill hear, andbut shallwill in no wiseway understand;. AndIn seeing, yeyou shallwill see, andbut shallwill in no wiseway perceive:. |
| 28:27 |
For this peoples heart ishas waxedgrown gross, callous. AndTheir their ears are dull of hearing,. AndTheir their eyes they have closed;. Lest haply they should perceivesee with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, Andand shouldwould turn again, Andthen I shouldwould heal them. |
| 28:28 |
Be it known therefore untoto you, that thisthe salvation of God is sent untoto the Gentiles:nations, and they will also hearlisten. |
| 28:30 |
AndPaul hestayed abode two whole years in his own hiredrented dwelling, house and received all thatwho wentwere incoming untoto him, |
| 28:31 |
preaching theGods kingdomKingdom of God, and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness, nonewithout forbidding himhindrance. |
