12:5 And Davids anger wasburned greatlyhot kindled against the man;, and he said to Nathan, As JehovahYahweh livethlives, the man thatwho hathhas done this isdeserves worthy to die:!
12:6 andHe hemust shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.!
12:7 And Nathan said to David, ThouYou artare the man.! ThusThis saithis Jehovahwhat Yahweh, the God of Israel, says: I anointed theeyou king over Israel, and I delivered theeyou out of the hand of Saul;.
12:8 and I gave theeyou thyyour masters house, and thyyour masters wives into thyyour bosom, and gave theeyou the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that hadwould have been too little, I would have added untoto theeyou suchmany andmore such things.
12:9 WhereforeWhy hasthave thouyou despised theYahwehs word of Jehovah, to do that which is evil in his sight? thouYou hasthave smittenstruck Uriah the Hittite with the sword, andhave hast taken his wife to be thyyour wife, and hasthave slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.
12:10 Now therefore the sword shallwill never depart from thyyour house, because thouyou hasthave despised me, and hasthave taken the wife of Uriah the HittiteHittites wife to be thyyour wife.

12:21 Then said his servants untosaid to him, What thing is this that thouyou hasthave done? thouYou didstfasted fast and weepwept for the child, while ithe was alive;, but when the child was dead, thouyou didstrose riseup and eatate bread.
12:22 AndHe he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept:; for I said, Who knowethknows whether JehovahYahweh will not be gracious to me, that the child may live?
12:23 But now he is dead,. whereforeWhy should I fast? canCan I bring him back again? I shallwill go to him, but he will not return to me.

13:3 But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, Davids brother:; and Jonadab was a very subtle man.
13:4 AndHe he said untoto him, Why, O son of the king, artare thouyou thusso leansad from day to day? wiltWont thouyou not tell me? And Amnon said untoto him, I love Tamar, my brother Absaloms sister.
13:5 And Jonadab said untoto him, Lay thee down on thyyour bed, and feignpretend thyselfto be sick:. andWhen whenyour thy father comethcomes to see theeyou, saytell unto him, LetPlease let my sister Tamar come, I pray thee, and give me bread to eat, and dressprepare the food in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it from her hand.
13:6 So Amnon lay down, and feignedfaked himselfbeing sick:. andWhen when the king wascame come to see him, Amnon said untoto the king, LetPlease let my sister Tamar come, I pray thee, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat from her hand.

13:13 AndAs Ifor me, whitherwhere shallwould I carry my shame? andAnd as for theeyou, thouyou wiltwill be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, Iplease pray thee, speak untoto the king; for he will not withhold me from theeyou.
13:14 HowbeitHowever, he would not hearkenlisten untoto her voice; but being stronger than she, he forced her, and lay with her.
13:15 Then Amnon hated her with exceedingexceedingly great hatred; for the hatred wherewithwith which he hated her was greater than the love wherewithwith which he had loved her. And Amnon said untoto her, Arise, be gone.!
13:16 AndShe she said untoto him, Not so, because this great wrong in puttingsending me forthaway is worse than the other that thouyou didstdid untoto me.! But he would not hearkenlisten untoto her.

13:32 And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, Davids brother, answered and said, LetDont notlet my Lord suppose that they have killed all the young men, the kings sons;, for Amnon only is dead:; for by the appointment of Absalom this hathhas been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.
13:33 Now therefore dont let not my Lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the kings sons are dead; for only Amnon only is dead.
13:34 But Absalom fled. AndThe the young man thatwho kept the watch lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, theremany camepeople muchwere peoplecoming by the way of the hillhillside side behind him.
13:35 And Jonadab said untoto the king, Behold, the kings sons are come:coming! It is as thyyour servant said, so it is.
13:36 AndAs it came to pass, as soon as he had madefinished an end of speaking, that, behold, the kings sons came, and lifted up their voice, voices and wept:. andThe the king also and all his servants wept very sorebitterly.
13:37 But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai the son of Ammihur, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day.
13:38 So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years.
13:39 AndKing the soul of king David longed to go forthout untoto Absalom:, for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeingsince he was dead.
14:2 And Joab sent to Tekoa, and fetchedbrought thence a wise woman from there, and said untoto her, IPlease prayact thee, like feign thyself to be a mourner, and put on mourning apparelclothing, I pray theeplease, and dont anoint notyourself thyself with oil,; but be as a woman thatwho hathhas mourned a long time mourned for the dead:.
14:3 andGo go in to the king, and speak onlike this mannerto unto him. So Joab put the words in her mouth.
14:4 AndWhen when the woman of Tekoa spakespoke to the king, she fell on her face to the ground, andshowed did obeisancerespect, and said, Help, O king.!
14:5 AndThe the king said untoto her, What ailethails theeyou? AndShe she answered, OfTruly a truth I am a widow, and my husband is dead.
14:6 AndYour thyservant handmaid had two sons,; and they twoboth strovefought together in the field, and there was noneno one to part them, but the one smotestruck the other, and killed him.
14:7 AndBehold, behold, the whole family ishas risen against thyyour handmaidservant, and they say, Deliver him thatwho smotestruck his brother, that we may kill him for the life of his brother whom he slewkilled, and so destroy the heir also. Thus will they would quench my coal which is left, and willwould leave to my husband neither name nor remainder uponon the facesurface of the earth.
14:8 AndThe the king said untoto the woman, Go to thyyour house, and I will give chargea command concerning theeyou.
14:9 AndThe the woman of Tekoa said untoto the king, My Lord, O king, may the iniquity be on me, and on my fathers house; and may the king and his throne be guiltless.
14:10 AndThe the king said, WhosoeverWhoever saithsays aughtanything untoto theeyou, bring him to me, and he shallwill not touchbother theeyou any more.
14:11 Then she said she, IPlease pray thee, let the king remember JehovahYahweh thyyour God, that the avenger of blood destroy not any more, lest they destroy my son. AndHe he said, As JehovahYahweh livethlives, there shall not one hair of thyyour son shall fall to the earth.
14:12 Then the woman said, LetPlease thylet handmaid, your Iservant pray thee, speak a word untoto my Lord the king. AndHe he said, Say on.
14:13 AndThe the woman said, WhereforeWhy then hasthave thouyou devised such a thing against the people of God? forFor in speaking this word the king is as one thatwho is guilty, in that the king dothdoes not fetchbring home again his banished one.
14:14 For we must needs die, and are aslike water spiltspilled on the ground, which cannotcant be gathered up again; neither dothdoes God take away life, but devisethdevises means, that he thatwho is banished not be not an outcast from him.
14:15 Now therefore, seeing that I amhave come to speak this word untoto my Lord the king, it is because the people have made me afraid:. andYour thyservant handmaid said, I will now speak untoto the king; it may be that the king will perform the request of his servant.
14:16 For the king will hear, to deliver his servant out of the hand of the man thatwho would destroy me and my son together out of the inheritance of God.
14:17 Then thyyour handmaidservant said, Let,Please Ilet pray thee, the word of my Lord the king bebring comfortablerest; for as an angel of God, so is my Lord the king to discern good and bad:. andMay JehovahYahweh, thyyour God, be with theeyou.
14:18 Then the king answered and said unto the woman, HidePlease notdont hide anything from me, I pray thee, aught that I shall ask theeyou. AndThe the woman said, Let my Lord the king now speak.
14:19 AndThe the king said, Is the hand of Joab with theeyou in all this? AndThe the woman answered and said, As thyyour soul livethlives, my Lord the king, noneno one can turn to the right hand or to the left from aughtanything that my Lord the king hathhas spoken; for thyyour servant Joab, heurged bade me, and he put all these words in the mouth of thyyour handmaid;servant.
14:20 Your servant Joab has done this thing to change the face of the matter. hathMy thy servant Joab done this thing: and my Lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth.
14:21 AndThe the king said untoto Joab, Behold now, I have donegranted this thing:. goGo therefore, and bring the young man Absalom back.
14:22 And Joab fell to the ground on his face, andshowed did obeisancerespect, and blessed the king;. and Joab said, ToToday dayyour thy servant knowethknows that I have found favor in thyyour sight, my Lord, O king, in that the king hathhas performed the request of his servant.
14:24 AndThe the king said, Let him turnreturn to his own house, but let him not see my face. So Absalom turnedreturned to his own house, and sawdidnt notsee the kings face.
14:25 Now in all Israel there was noneno one to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty:. fromFrom the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemishdefect in him.
14:26 AndWhen when he cut the hair of his head now it was at every years end that he cut it; because it was heavy on him, therefore he cut it;, he weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels, after the kings weight.
14:27 AndThree untosons Absalom there were born threeto sonsAbsalom, and one daughter, whose name was Tamar:. sheShe was a woman ofwith a fairbeautiful countenanceface.
14:28 And Absalom dweltlived two full years in Jerusalem;, and he sawdidnt notsee the kings face.
14:29 Then Absalom sent for Joab, to send him to the king;, but he would not come to him:. andThen he sent again a second time, but he would not come.
14:30 Therefore he said untoto his servants, SeeBehold, Joabs field is near mine, and he hathhas barley there;. goGo and set it on fire. AndSo Absaloms servants set the field on fire.
14:31 Then Joab arose, and came to Absalom untoto his house, and said untoto him, WhereforeWhy have thyyour servants set my field on fire?
14:32 And Absalom answered Joab, Behold, I sent untoto theeyou, saying, Come hitherhere, that I may send theeyou to the king, to say, WhereforeWhy amhave I come from Geshur? itIt werewould be better for me to be there still. Now therefore, let me see the kings face; and if there beis iniquity in me, let him kill me.
14:33 So Joab came to the king, and told him; and when he had called for Absalom, he came to the king, and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king:; and the king kissed Absalom.
15:1 AndAfter it came to pass after this, that Absalom prepared him a chariot and horses for himself, and fifty men to run before him.
15:2 And Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate:. andWhen it was so, that, when any man had a suit which should come to the king for judgment, then Absalom called untoto him, and said, OfWhat what city artare thouyou from? AndHe he said, ThyYour servant is of one of the tribes of Israel.
15:3 And Absalom said untoto him, SeeBehold, thyyour matters are good and right; but there is no man deputeddeputized ofby the king to hear theeyou.
15:4 Absalom said moreover, Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man who hathhas any suit or cause might come untoto me, and I would do him justice!
15:5 AndIt it was so, that, when any man came nighnear to dobow down to him obeisance, he putstretched forthout his hand, and took hold of him, and kissed him.
15:6 AndAbsalom ondid this mannersort didof Absalomthing to all Israel thatwho came to the king for judgment:. soSo Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.
15:7 AndAt it came to pass at the end of forty years, that Absalom said untoto the king, IPlease pray thee, let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed untoto JehovahYahweh, in Hebron.
15:8 For thyyour servant vowed a vow while I abodestayed at Geshur in Syria, saying, If JehovahYahweh shall indeed bring me again to Jerusalem, then I will serve JehovahYahweh.
15:9 AndThe the king said untoto him, Go in peace. So he arose, and went to Hebron.
15:10 But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as yeyou hear the sound of the trumpet, then yeyou shall say, Absalom is king in Hebron.!
15:11 AndTwo withhundred Absalommen went twowith hundredAbsalom men out of Jerusalem, thatwho were invited, and went in their simplicity; and they knewdidnt notknow anything.
15:12 And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, Davids counsellorcounselor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he was offering the sacrifices. AndThe the conspiracy was strong;, for the people increased continually with Absalom.
15:13 AndA theremessenger came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom.
15:14 And David said untoto all his servants thatwho were with him at Jerusalem, Arise,! andLets let us flee;, foror else none of us shallwill escape from Absalom:. makeHurry speed to depart, lest he overtake us quickly, and bring down evil uponon us, and smitestrike the city with the edge of the sword.
15:15 AndThe the kings servants said untoto the king, Behold, thyyour servants are ready to do whatsoeverwhatever my Lord the king shall choosechooses.
15:16 AndThe the king went forthout, and all his household after him. AndThe the king left ten women, thatwho were concubines, to keep the house.
15:17 AndThe the king went forthout, and all the people after him; and they tarriedstayed in Beth merhakMerhak.
15:18 AndAll all his servants passed on beside him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men thatwho came after him from Gath, passed on before the king.
15:19 Then said the king said to Ittai the Gittite, WhereforeWhy goestdo thouyou also go with us? returnReturn, and abidestay with the king:; for thouyou artare a foreigner, and also an exile;. returnReturn to thineyour own place.
15:20 Whereas thouyou camestcame but yesterday, should I thistoday day make theeyou go up and down with us, seeingsince I go whitherwhere I may? return thouReturn, and take back thyyour brethren;brothers. mercyMercy and truth be with theeyou.
15:21 And Ittai answered the king, and said, As JehovahYahweh livethlives, and as my Lord the king livethlives, surely in what place my Lord the king shall beis, whether for death or for life, evenyour thereservant also will thybe servantthere bealso.
15:22 And David said to Ittai, Go and pass over. And Ittai the Gittite passed over, and all his men, and all the little ones thatwho were with him.
15:23 AndAll all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over:. theThe king also himself passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over, toward the way of the wilderness.
15:24 AndBehold, lo, Zadok also came, and all the Levites with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God; and they set down theGods ark of God; and Abiathar went up, until all the people hadfinished done passing out of the city.
15:25 AndThe the king said untoto Zadok, Carry backGods the ark ofback God into the city:. ifIf I shall find favor in theYahwehs eyes of Jehovah, he will bring me again, and show me both it, and his habitation:;
15:26 but if he say thussays, I have no delight in thee;you, behold, here I am. I,Let let him do to me as seemethseems good untoto him.
15:27 The king said also untoto Zadok the priest, ArtArent thouyou not a seer? returnReturn into the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz thyyour son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.
15:28 SeeBehold, I will tarrystay at the fords of the wilderness, until thereword comecomes word from you to certifyinform me.
15:29 Zadok therefore and Abiathar carried theGods ark ofto GodJerusalem again; to Jerusalem: and they abodestayed there.
15:30 And David went up by the ascent of the mountMount of Olives, and wept as he went up; and he had his head covered, and went barefoot:. andAll all the people thatwho were with him each covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up.
15:31 AndSomeone one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O JehovahYahweh, Iplease pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.
15:32 AndWhen it came to pass, that, when David washad come to the top of the ascent, where God was worshippedworshiped, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coattunic rent, torn and earth uponon his head.
15:33 And David said untoto him, If thouyou passestpass on with me, then thouyou wiltwill be a burden untoto me:;
15:34 but if thouyou return to the city, and saytell unto Absalom, I will be thyyour servant, O king;. asAs I have been thyyour fathers servant in time past, so I will I now be thyyour servant; then wiltyou thouwill defeat for me the counsel of Ahithophel.
15:35 AndDont hastyou thouhave not there with thee Zadok and Abiathar the priests? thereforethere itwith shallyou? be,Therefore thatwhatever whatyou thing soever thou shalt hear out of the kings house, thou shalt tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.
15:36 Behold, they have there with them their two sons, Ahimaaz, Zadoks son, and Jonathan, Abiathars son;. andSend byto them ye shall send unto me everything that yeyou shall hear by them.
16:1 AndWhen when David was a little past the top of the ascent, behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him, with a couple of assesdonkeys saddled, and uponon them two hundred loaves of bread, and aone hundred clusters of raisins, and aone hundred of summer fruits, and a bottlecontainer of wine.
16:2 AndThe the king said untoto Ziba, What meanestdo thouyou mean by these? And Ziba said, The assesdonkeys are for the kings household to ride on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine, that suchthose aswho are faint in the wilderness may drink.
16:3 AndThe the king said, AndWhere where is thyyour masters son? And Ziba said untoto the king, Behold, he abidethis atstaying in Jerusalem; for he said, ToToday day will the house of Israel will restore me the kingdom of my father.
16:4 Then said the king said to Ziba, Behold, thine is all that pertainethbelongs untoto Mephibosheth is yours. And Ziba said, I dobow obeisance;down. letLet me find favor in thyyour sight, my Lord, O king.
16:5 AndWhen whenKing king David came to Bahurim, behold, there came out thence a man of the family of theSauls house ofcame Saulout, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera;. heHe came out, and cursed still as he came.
16:6 AndHe he cast stones at David, and at all the servants of kingKing David:, and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left.
16:7 AndShimei thus said Shimei when he cursed, BegoneBe gone, begonebe gone, thouyou man of blood, and basewicked fellow:!
16:8 JehovahYahweh hathhas returned uponon theeyou all the blood of theSauls house of Saul, in whose steadplace thouyou hasthave reigned;! andYahweh Jehovahhas hath delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom thyyour son;! andBehold, behold, you thouare artcaught takenby inyour thine own mischief, because thouyou artare a man of blood.!
16:9 Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah untosaid to the king, Why should this dead dog curse my Lord the king? Please let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head.
16:10 AndThe the king said, What have I to do with you, yeyou sons of Zeruiah? Because he cursethcurses, and because JehovahYahweh hathhas said untoto him, Curse David;, who then shall say, WhereforeWhy hasthave thouyou done so?
16:11 And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, who came forthout fromof my bowels, seekethseeks my life:. howHow much more may this Benjamite, now do it? letLeave him alone, and let him curse; for JehovahYahweh hathhas biddeninvited him.
16:12 It may be that JehovahYahweh will look on the wrong done untoto me, and that JehovahYahweh will requiterepay me good for histhe cursing of me this daytoday.
16:13 So David and his men went by the way; and Shimei went along on the hillhillside sideopposite over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and castthrew dust.
16:14 AndThe the king, and all the people thatwho were with him, camearrived weary; and he refreshed himself there.
16:15 And Absalom, and all the people, the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him.
16:16 AndWhen it came to pass, when Hushai the Archite, Davids friend, washad come untoto Absalom, that Hushai said untoto Absalom, Long live the king,! Long live the king.!
16:17 And Absalom said to Hushai, Is this thyyour kindness to thyyour friend? whyWhy wentestdidnt thouyou notgo with thyyour friend?
16:18 And Hushai said untoto Absalom, NayNo; but whomwhomever Jehovah,Yahweh and this people, and all the men of Israel have chosen, hisI will Ibe behis, and withI him will Istay abidewith him.
16:19 And againAgain, whom should I serve? shouldShouldnt I not serve in the presence of his son? asAs I have served in thyyour fathers presence, so I will I be in thyyour presence.
16:20 Then Absalom said Absalom to Ahithophel, Give your counsel what we shall do.
16:21 And Ahithophel said untoto Absalom, Go in untoto thyyour fathers concubines, that he hathhas left to keep the house;. andThen all Israel will hear that thouyou artare abhorred ofby thyyour father:. thenThen will the hands of all thatwho are with theeyou will be strong.
16:22 So they spread Absalom a tent uponfor Absalom on the top of the house;, and Absalom went in untoto his fathers concubines in the sight of all Israel.
16:23 AndThe the counsel of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, was as if a man inquired at the oracleinner sanctuary of God:. soAll was all the counsel of Ahithophel was like this both with David and with Absalom.
17:1 Moreover Ahithophel said untoto Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night:tonight.
17:2 and I will come uponon him while he is weary and weak handedexhausted, and will make him afraid;. andAll all the people thatwho are with him shallwill flee;. and I will smitestrike the king only;,
17:3 and I will bring back all the people untoto thee:you. theThe man whom thouyou seekestseek is as if all returned:. soAll all the people shall be in peace.
17:4 AndThe the saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.
17:5 Then Absalom said Absalom, CallNow nowcall Hushai the Archite also, and letlets us hear likewise what he saithsays.
17:6 AndWhen when Hushai washad come to Absalom, Absalom spakespoke untoto him, saying, Ahithophel hathhas spoken afterlike this. manner:Shall shall we do afterwhat hishe sayingsays? ifIf not, speak thouup.
17:7 And Hushai said untoto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel hathhas given this time is not good.
17:8 Hushai said moreover, ThouYou knowestknow thyyour father and his men, that they are mighty men, and they are chafedfierce in their minds, aslike a bear robbed of her whelpscubs in the field;. andYour thy father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.
17:9 Behold, he is hid now hidden in some pit, or in some other place:. andIt it will come to passhappen, when some of them arehave fallen at the first, that whosoeverwhoever hearethhears it will say, There is a slaughter among the people thatwho follow Absalom.!
17:10 AndEven even he thatwho is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, will utterly melt; for all Israel knowethknows that thyyour father is a mighty man, and theythose thatwho are with him are valiant men.
17:11 But I counsel that all Israel be gathered together untoto theeyou, from Dan even to Beer shebaBeersheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that thouyou go to battle in thineyour own person.
17:12 So shall we will come uponon him in some place where he shallwill be found, and we will light uponon him as the dew fallethfalls on the ground;, andthen we will not leave so much as one of him and of all the men thatwho are with him we will not leave so much as one.
17:13 Moreover, if he behas gottengone into a city, then shall all Israel will bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there beisnt not one small stone found there.
17:14 And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For JehovahYahweh had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that JehovahYahweh might bring evil uponon Absalom.
17:15 Then Hushai said Hushaito unto Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, Thus and thus did Ahithophel counselcounseled Absalom and the elders of Israel; andthat thusway; and thusI have Icounseled counselledthis way.
17:16 Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, LodgeDont notlodge thistonight night at the fords of the wilderness, but by all means pass over;, lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people thatwho are with him.
17:17 Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz were staying by En rogelRogel; and a maidfemale servant used to go and tellreport to them;, and they went and told kingKing David:; for they mightcouldnt notrisk bebeing seen tocoming come into the city.
17:18 But a ladboy saw them, and told Absalom:. andThen they went both ofwent them away quickly, and came to the house of a man in Bahurim, who had a well in his court; and they went down thitherthere.
17:19 AndThe the woman took and spread the covering over the wells mouth, and strewedspread bruisedout crushed grain thereonon it; and nothing was known.
17:20 And Absaloms servants came to the woman to the house; and they said, Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan? AndThe the woman said untoto them, They arehave gone over the brook of water. AndWhen when they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.
17:21 AndAfter it came to pass, after they werehad departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told kingKing David; and they said untoto David, Arise ye, and pass quickly over the water; for thus hathhas Ahithophel counselledcounseled against you.
17:22 Then David arose, and all the people thatwho were with him, and they passed over the Jordan:. byBy the morning light there lacked not one of them thatwho washad not gone over the Jordan.
17:23 AndWhen when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his assdonkey, and arose, and gatwent him home, untoto his city, and set his house in order, and hanged himself; and he died, and was buried in the sepulchretomb of his father.
17:24 Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom passed over the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.
17:25 And Absalom set Amasa over the hostarmy instead of Joab. Now Amasa was the son of a man, whose name was Ithra the Israelite, thatwho went in to AbigalAbigail the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah, Joabs mother.
17:26 And Israel and Absalom encamped in the land of Gilead.
17:27 AndWhen it came to pass, when David washad come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lo debarLodebar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,
17:28 brought beds, and basins, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and meal, and parched grain, and beans, and lentils, androasted parched pulsegrain,
17:29 and honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of the herd, for David, and for the people thatwho were with him, to eat:; for they said, The people are hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.
18:1 And David numberedcounted the people thatwho were with him, and set captains of thousands and captains of hundreds over them.
18:2 And David sent forth the people out, a third part under the hand of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joabs brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. AndThe the king said untoto the people, I will also surely go forthout with you myself also.
18:3 But the people said, ThouYou shaltshall not go forth:out, for if we flee away, they will not care for us;, neither if half of us die, will they care for us:. butBut thouyou artare worth ten thousand of us;. thereforeTherefore now it is better that thouyou beare ready to succorhelp us out of the city.
18:4 AndThe the king said untoto them, WhatI seemethwill youdo what seems best Ito will doyou. AndThe the king stood bybeside the gate side, and all the people went out by hundreds and by thousands.
18:5 AndThe the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Deal gently for my sake with the young man, even with Absalom. AndAll all the people heard when the king gavecommanded all the captains charge concerning Absalom.
18:6 So the people went out into the field against Israel:; and the battle was in the forest of Ephraim.
18:7 AndThe the people of Israel were smittenstruck there before theDavids servants of David, and there was a great slaughter there that day of twenty thousand men.
18:8 For the battle was there spread over the facesurface of all the country;, and the forest devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.
18:9 And Absalom chancedhappened to meet theDavids servants of David. And Absalom was riding uponon his mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak,; and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was takenhanging up between heaventhe sky and earth; and the mule that was under him went on.
18:10 AndA a certain man saw it, and told Joab, and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanging in an oak.
18:11 And Joab said untoto the man thatwho told him, AndBehold, behold, you thousaw sawest it, and why didstdidnt thouyou notstrike smite him there to the ground? and I would have given theeyou ten pieces of silver, and a girdlesash.
18:12 AndThe the man said untoto Joab, Though I should receive a thousand pieces of silver in my hand, yetI wouldstill Iwouldnt notstretch putout forth my hand against the kings son:; for in our hearing the king chargedcommanded theeyou and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that noneno one touch the young man Absalom.
18:13 Otherwise, if I had dealt falsely against his life and there is no matter hidhidden from the king, then thouyou thyselfyourself wouldestwould have set thyselfyourself against me.
18:14 Then Joab said Joab, IIm may not tarrygoing thusto wait like this with theeyou. AndHe he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through theAbsaloms heart of Absalom, while he was yetstill alive in the midstmiddle of the oak.
18:15 AndTen ten young men thatwho barebore Joabs armor compassedsurrounded about and smotestruck Absalom, and slewkilled him.
18:16 And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel; for Joab held back the people back.
18:17 AndThey they took Absalom, and cast him into thea great pit in the forest, and raised over him a very great heap of stones:. andThen all Israel fled, everyeach one to his own tent.
18:18 Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself the pillar, which is in the kings dale;valley, for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance:memory. andHe he called the pillar after his own name;. andIt it is called Absaloms monument, untoto this day.

18:20 And Joab said untoto him, ThouYou shaltmust not be the bearer of tidingsnews this daytoday, but thouyou shaltmust bearcarry tidingsnews another day;. butBut thistoday dayyou thoumust shaltcarry bear no tidingsnews, because the kings son is dead.
18:21 Then Joab said Joab to the Cushite, Go, tell the king what thouyou hasthave seen.! AndThe the Cushite bowed himself untoto Joab, and ran.
18:22 Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said yet again to Joab, But come what may, please let me, I pray thee, also run after the Cushite. And Joab said, WhereforeWhy wiltdo thouyou want to run, my son, seeingsince thatyou thouwill wilt have no reward for the tidingsnews?
18:23 But come what may, he said he, I will run. AndHe he said untoto him, Run.! Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the Plain, and outran the Cushite.

18:27 AndThe the watchman said, I think the running of the foremostfirst one is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. AndThe the king said, He is a good man, and comethcomes with good tidingsnews.
18:28 And Ahimaaz called, and said untoto the king, All is well. AndHe he bowed himself before the king with his face to the earth, and said, Blessed beis JehovahYahweh thyyour God, who hathhas delivered up the men thatwho lifted up their hand against my Lord the king.!
18:29 AndThe the king said, Is it well with the young man Absalom? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the kings servant, even me thyyour servant, I saw a great tumult, but I knewdont notknow what it was.
18:30 AndThe the king said, TurnCome aside, and stand here. AndHe hecame turned aside, and stood still.
18:31 AndBehold, behold, the Cushite came;. andThe the Cushite said, TidingsGood news for my Lord the king;, for JehovahYahweh hathhas avenged theeyou thistoday day of all themthose thatwho rose up against theeyou.

18:33 AndThe the king was much moved, and went up to the chamberroom over the gate, and wept:. andAs as he went, thus he said, OMy my son Absalom,! myMy son, my son Absalom! wouldI wish I had died forinstead theeof you, O Absalom, my son, my son!
19:1 AndJoab it was told Joab, Behold, the king weepethweeps and mournethmourns for Absalom.

19:3 AndThe the people gatsneaked theminto bythe stealthcity that day into the city, as people thatwho are ashamed steal away when they flee in battle.
19:4 AndThe the king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, OMy my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!
19:5 And Joab came into the house to the king, and said, ThouToday hastyou have shamed this day the faces of all thyyour servants, who thistoday day have saved thyyour life, and the lives of thyyour sons and of thyyour daughters, and the lives of thyyour wives, and the lives of thyyour concubines;
19:6 in that thouyou lovestlove themthose thatwho hate thee, you and hatesthate themthose thatwho love theeyou. For thouyou hasthave declared thistoday day, that princes and servants are noughtnothing untoto thee:you. forFor thistoday day I perceive, that if Absalom had lived, and all we had all died this daytoday, then it hadwould have pleased theeyou well.
19:7 Now therefore arise, go forth, out and speak comfortablyto untocomfort thyyour servants; for I swear by JehovahYahweh, if thouyou dont go not forthout, there will not tarry a man will stay with theeyou this night:. andThat thatwould will be worse untoto theeyou than all the evil that hathhas befallenhappened theeto you from thyyour youth until now.
19:8 Then the king arose, and sat in the gate. AndThe theypeople toldwere unto all the peopletold, saying, Behold, the king is sitting in the gate:. andAll all the people came before the king. Now Israel had fled every man to his tent.
19:9 AndAll all the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he ishas fled out of the land from Absalom.
19:10 And Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why speakdont yeyou notspeak a word of bringing the king back?
19:11 AndKing king David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, Speak untoto the elders of Judah, saying, Why are yeyou the last to bring the king back to his house?, seeingsince the speech of all Israel ishas come to the king, to bringreturn him to his house.?
19:12 YeYou are my brethren, brothers. yeYou are my bone and my flesh:. whereforeWhy then are yeyou the last to bring back the king?
19:13 AndSay say ye to Amasa, ArtArent thouyou not my bone and my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thouyou bearent not captain of the hostarmy before me continually ininstead the room of Joab.
19:14 AndHe he bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as the heart of one man;, so that they sent untoto the king, saying, Return thou, you and all thyyour servants.

19:19 AndHe he said untoto the king, LetDont notlet my Lord impute iniquity untoto me, neitheror do thou remember that which thyyour servant did perversely the day that my Lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.
19:20 For thyyour servant dothknows know that I have sinned:. therefore,Therefore behold, I amhave come thistoday dayas the first of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my Lord the king.
19:21 But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, ShallShouldnt not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed JehovahsYahwehs anointed?
19:22 And David said, What have I to do with you, yeyou sons of Zeruiah, that yeyou should this day be adversaries untoto me today? shallShall there any man be put to death thistoday day in Israel? forFor dodont not I know that I am this day king over Israel today?
19:23 AndThe the king said untoto Shimei, ThouYou shaltwill not die. AndThe the king swareswore untoto him.
19:24 And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king; and he had neither dressedgroomed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came home in peace.

19:26 AndHe he answered, My Lord, O king, my servant deceived me:. forFor thyyour servant said, I will saddle mea andonkey assfor myself, that I may ride thereon,on it and go with the king;, because thyyour servant is lame.
19:27 AndHe hehas hath slandered thyyour servant untoto my Lord the king;, but my Lord the king is as an angel of God:. Therefore do therefore what is good in thineyour eyes.
19:28 For all my fathers house were but dead men before my Lord the king; yet didstyou thou set thyyour servant among themthose thatwho didate eat at thineyour own table. What right therefore have I yet that I should cryappeal any more untoto the king?
19:29 AndThe the king said untoto him, Why speakestdo thouyou speak any more of thyyour matters? I say, Thouyou and Ziba divide the land.
19:30 And Mephibosheth said untoto the king, yeaYes, let him take all, forasmuchbecause as my Lord the king ishas come in peace untoto his own house.
19:31 And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim; and he went over the Jordan with the king, to conduct him over the Jordan.

19:35 I am thiseighty day fourscore years old:, cantoday. Can I discern between good and bad? canCan thyyour servant taste what I eat or what I drink? canCan I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women any more? whereforeWhy then should thyyour servant be yet a burden untoto my Lord the king?
19:36 ThyYour servant wouldwill but just go over the Jordan with the king:. andWhy why should the king recompenserepay it me with such a reward?
19:37 LetPlease thylet your servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in minemy own city, by the grave of my father and my mother. But behold, thyyour servant Chimham; let him go over with my Lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good untoto theeyou.
19:38 AndThe the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good untoto thee:you. andWhatever whatsoeveryou thourequest shalt require of me, that I will I do for theeyou.
19:39 AndAll all the people went over the Jordan, and the king went over:. andThen the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned untoto his own place.

19:41 AndBehold, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said untoto the king, Why have our brethrenbrothers the men of Judah stolen theeyou away, and brought the king, and his household, over the Jordan, and all Davids men with him?
19:42 AndAll all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is neara ofclose kinrelative to us:. whereforeWhy then are yeyou angry forabout this matter? haveHave we eaten at all at the kings cost? orOr hathhas he given us any gift?
19:43 AndThe the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more rightclaim into David than ye:you. whyWhy then did yeyou despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king? AndThe the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.
20:1 AndThere there happened to be there a basewicked fellow, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite:; and he blew the trumpet, and said, We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse:. everyEvery man to his tents, O Israel.!
20:2 So all the men of Israel went up from following David, and followed Sheba the son of Bichri; but the men of Judah clavejoined untowith their king, from the Jordan even to Jerusalem.
20:3 And David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, custody and provided them with sustenance, but wentdidnt notgo in untoto them. So they were shut up untoto the day of their death, living in widowhood.
20:4 Then said the king said to Amasa, Call me the men of Judah together within three days, and be thou here present.
20:5 So Amasa went to call the men of Judah together;, but he tarriedstayed longer than the set time which he had been appointed to him.

20:7 AndJoabs theremen went out after him Joabswith men, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men; and they went out of Jerusalem, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.
20:8 When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. And Joab was girdedclothed within his apparel of war that he had put on, and thereonon it was a girdlesash with a sword fastened uponon his loinswaist in theits sheath thereof; and as he went forthalong it fell out.
20:9 And Joab said to Amasa, Is it well with theeyou, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.

20:11 AndOne there stood by him one of Joabs young men stood by him, and said, He thatwho favorethfavors Joab, and he thatwho is for David, let him follow Joab.!
20:12 And Amasa lay wallowing in his blood in the midstmiddle of the highway. AndWhen when the man saw that all the people stood still, he carried Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a garment over him, when he saw that everyeveryone onewho that came by him stood still.
20:13 When he was removed out of the highway, all the people went on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.
20:14 AndHe he went through all the tribes of Israel untoto Abel, and to Beth maacahMaacah, and all the Berites:. andThey they were gathered together, and went also after him.
20:15 AndThey they came and besieged him in Abel of Beth maacahMaacah, and they cast up a mound against the city, and it stood against the rampart; and all the people thatwho were with Joab battered the wall, to throw it down.
20:16 Then cried a wise woman cried out of the city, Hear, hear;! Please say, Ito pray you, unto Joab, Come near hitherhere, that I may speak with theeyou.
20:17 AndHe he came near untoto her; and the woman said, ArtAre thouyou Joab? AndHe he answered, I am. Then she said untoto him, Hear the words of thyyour handmaidservant. AndHe he answered, IIm do hearlistening.
20:18 Then she spakespoke, saying, They wereused wont to speaksay in old timetimes, saying, They shall surely ask counsel at Abel:, and so they endedsettled thea matter.
20:19 I am ofamong themthose thatwho are peaceable and faithful in Israel:. thouYou seekestseek to destroy a city and a mother in Israel:. whyWhy wiltwill thouyou swallow up theYahwehs inheritance of Jehovah?
20:20 And Joab answered and said, Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy.
20:21 The matter is not so:. butBut a man of the hill country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, hathhas lifted up his hand against the king, even against David;. Just deliver him only, and I will depart from the city. AndThe the woman said untoto Joab, Behold, his head shallwill be thrown to theeyou over the wall.
20:22 Then the woman went untoto all the people in her wisdom. AndThey they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and threw it out to Joab. AndHe he blew the trumpet, and they were dispersed from the city, every man to his tent. AndThen Joab returned to Jerusalem untoto the king.
