And theyHebron gavewas Hebrongiven untoto Caleb as Moses had spoken:said; and he drove out thencefrom it the three sons of Anak |
| 1:21 |
AndBut the childrenpeople of Benjamin did not drive out the JebusitesJeb′usites thatwho inhabiteddwelt in Jerusalem; butso the JebusitesJeb′usites dwellhave dwelt with the childrenpeople of Benjamin in Jerusalem untoto this day |
| 1:22 |
AndThe the house of Joseph they also went up against Beth elBethel; and Jehovahthe Lord was with them |
| 1:23 |
And the house of Joseph sent to spy out BethBethel el Now the name of the city beforetime was formerly Luz |
| 1:24 |
And the watchersspies saw a man comecoming forth out of the city and they said untoto him ShowPray show us we pray thee the entranceway into the city and we will deal kindly with theeyou |
| 1:25 |
And he showed them the entranceway into the city; and they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let the man go and all his family go |
| 1:26 |
And the man went intoto the land of the Hittites and built a city and called theits name thereof Luz; whichthat is theits name thereofto unto this day |
| 1:27 |
AndManas′seh Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth sheanshe′an and its townsvillages noror ofTa′anach Taanach and its townsvillages noror the inhabitants of Dor and its townsvillages noror the inhabitants of Ibleam and its townsvillages noror the inhabitants of MegiddoMegid′do and its townsvillages; but the Canaanites wouldpersisted dwellin dwelling in that land |
| 1:28 |
AndWhen it came to pass when Israel wasgrew waxed strong that they put the Canaanites to taskworkforced andlabor but did not utterly drive them out |
| 1:29 |
And EphraimE′phraim drovedid not drive out the Canaanites thatwho dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them |
| 1:30 |
ZebulunZeb′ulun drovedid not drive out the inhabitants of Kitron noror the inhabitants of NahalolNa′halol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them and became subject to taskworkforced labor |
| 1:31 |
Asher drovedid not drive out the inhabitants of Acco noror the inhabitants of Sidon noror of Ahlab noror of Achzib noror of Helbah noror of Aphik noror of Rehob; |
| 1:33 |
NaphtaliNaph′tali drovedid not drive out the inhabitants of Beth shemeshshe′mesh noror the inhabitants of Beth anath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites the inhabitants of the land:; nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth shemeshshe′mesh and of Beth anath became subject to taskworkforced labor for them |
| 1:34 |
AndThe the Amorites forcedpressed the childrenDanites ofback Dan into the hill country; for they woulddid not sufferallow them to come down to the valleyplain; |
| 1:35 |
but the Amorites wouldpersisted dwellin dwelling in mountHar Heresheres in AijalonAi′jalon and in Shaalbim:Sha yetal′bim but the hand of the house of Joseph prevailedrested soheavily thatupon them and they became subject to taskworkforced labor |
| 1:36 |
And the border of the Amorites wasran from the ascent of AkrabbimAkrab′bim from theSela rock and upward |
| 2:1 |
AndNow the angel of Jehovahthe cameLord went up from Gilgal to Bochim And he said I madebrought you to go up outfrom of Egypt and have brought you untointo the land which I swareswore untoto give to your fathers; and I said I will never break my covenant with you: |
| 2:2 |
and yeyou shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; yeyou shall break down their altars But yeyou have not hearkenedobeyed unto my voice:command whyWhat is this you have ye done this |
| 2:3 |
WhereforeSo now I alsosay said I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall bebecome asadversaries thornsto inyou your sides and their gods shall be a snare untoto you |
| 2:4 |
AndWhen it came to pass when the angel of Jehovahthe spakeLord spoke these words untoto all the childrenpeople of Israel that the people lifted up their voicevoices and wept |
| 2:5 |
And they called the name of that place Bochim:; and they sacrificed there untoto Jehovahthe Lord |
| 2:6 |
NowWhen when Joshua haddismissed sent the people away the childrenpeople of Israel went everyeach manto unto his inheritance to possesstake possession of the land |
| 2:7 |
And the people served Jehovahthe Lord all the days of Joshua and all the days of the elders thatwho outlived Joshua who had seen all the great work ofwhich Jehovahthe thatLord he had wroughtdone for Israel |
| 2:8 |
And Joshua the son of Nun the servant of Jehovahthe Lord died beingat athe age of one hundred and ten years old |
| 2:9 |
And they buried him inwithin the borderbounds of his inheritance in TimnathTim′nath hereshe′res in the hill country of EphraimE′phraim on the north of the mountain of GaashGa′ash |
| 2:10 |
And also all that generation also were gathered untoto their fathers:; and there arose another generation after them thatwho knewdid not Jehovahknow northe yetLord or the work which he had wroughtdone for Israel |
| 2:11 |
And the childrenpeople of Israel did thatwhat which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord and served the BaalimBa′als; |
| 2:12 |
and they forsook Jehovahthe Lord the God of their fathers who had brought them out of the land of Egypt; andthey followedwent after other gods offrom among the gods of the peoples thatwho were round about them and bowed themselves down untoto them:; and they provoked Jehovahthe Lord to anger |
| 2:13 |
AndThey they forsook Jehovahthe Lord and served Baalthe Ba′als and the AshtarothAsh′taroth |
| 2:14 |
AndSo the anger of Jehovahthe Lord was kindled against Israel and he deliveredgave them intoover theto handsplunderers ofwho spoilersplundered that despoiled them; and he sold them into the handspower of their enemies round about so that they could notno any longer standwithstand before their enemies |
| 2:15 |
WhithersoeverWhenever they wentmarched out the hand of Jehovahthe Lord was against them for evil as Jehovahthe Lord had spokenwarned and as Jehovahthe Lord had sworn untoto them:; and they were in sore distressedstraits |
| 2:16 |
AndThen Jehovahthe Lord raised up judges who saved them out of the handpower of those thatwho despoiledplundered them |
| 2:17 |
And yet they hearkeneddid not untolisten to their judges; for they played the harlot after other gods and bowed themselves down untoto them:; they soon turned aside quicklyfrom out of the way whereinin which their fathers had walked obeyingwho had obeyed the commandments of Jehovah;the butLord and they did not do so |
| 2:18 |
AndWhenever whenthe JehovahLord raised them up judges thenfor Jehovahthem the Lord was with the judge and he saved them outfrom of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge:; for itthe repentedLord Jehovahwas becausemoved ofto pity by their groaning bybecause reason of themthose thatwho oppressedafflicted them and vexedoppressed them |
| 2:19 |
But itwhenever came to pass when the judge wasdied dead that they turned back and dealtbehaved moreworse corruptly than their fathers ingoing followingafter other gods toserving serve them and tobowing bow down untoto them; they ceaseddid not fromdrop any of their doingspractices noror from their stubborn wayways |
| 2:20 |
AndSo the anger of Jehovahthe Lord was kindled against Israel; and he said Because this nationpeople have transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers and have not hearkenedobeyed unto my voice; |
| 2:21 |
I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them any of the nations that Joshua left when he died; |
| 2:22 |
that by them I may provetest Israel whether they will keeptake care to walk in the way of Jehovahthe toLord walk therein as their fathers did keep it or not |
| 2:23 |
So Jehovahthe Lord left those nations withoutnot driving them out hastily;at neitheronce deliveredand he did not give them into the handpower of Joshua |
| 3:1 |
Now these are the nations which Jehovahthe Lord left to provetest Israel by them eventhat asis manyall ofin Israel aswho had notno knownexperience allof theany warswar ofin Canaan; |
| 3:2 |
it was only that the generations of the childrenpeople of Israel might know towar that he might teach them war to such at the least such as beforetimehad knewnot nothingknown thereof:it before |
| 3:3 |
namelyThese are the nations: the five lords of the Philistines and all the Canaanites and the SidoniansSido′nians and the Hivites thatwho dwelt inon mountMount Lebanon from mountMount BaalBa′al hermonher′mon untoas far as the entrance of Hamath |
| 3:4 |
AndThey they were leftfor tothe provetesting of Israel by them to know whether theyIsrael would hearkenobey unto the commandments of Jehovahthe Lord which he commanded their fathers by Moses |
| 3:5 |
AndSo the childrenpeople of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites the Hittites and the Amorites and the PerizzitesPer′izzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites:Jeb′usites; |
| 3:6 |
and they took their daughters to bethemselves theirfor wives and gave their own daughters they gave to their sons; and they served their gods |
| 3:7 |
And the childrenpeople of Israel did thatwhat which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe andLord forgatforgetting Jehovahthe Lord their God and servedserving the BaalimBa′als and the AsherothAshe′roth |
| 3:8 |
Therefore the anger of Jehovahthe Lord was kindled against Israel and he sold them into the hand of CushanCu′shan rishathaimrishatha′im king of Mesopotamia:Mesopota′mia; and the childrenpeople of Israel served CushanCu′shan rishathaimrishatha′im eight years |
| 3:9 |
AndBut when the childrenpeople of Israel cried untoto Jehovahthe JehovahLord the Lord raised up a saviourdeliverer tofor the childrenpeople of Israel who saveddelivered them evenOth′ni Othnielel the son of Kenaz Calebs younger brother |
| 3:10 |
AndThe the Spirit of Jehovahthe Lord came upon him and he judged Israel; and he went out to war and Jehovahthe deliveredLord Cushangave rishathaimCu′shan rishatha′im king of MesopotamiaMesopota′mia into his hand:; and his hand prevailed againstover CushanCu′shan rishathaimrishatha′im |
| 3:11 |
AndSo the land had rest forty years AndThen OthnielOth′ni el the son of Kenaz died |
| 3:12 |
And the childrenpeople of Israel again did thatwhat which was evil in the sight of Jehovah:the Lord; and Jehovahthe Lord strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel because they had done thatwhat which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord |
| 3:13 |
AndHe he gathered untoto himhimself the childrenAmmonites ofand Ammonthe andAmal′ekites Amalek; and he went and smotedefeated Israel; and they possessedtook possession of the city of palmpalms trees |
| 3:14 |
And the childrenpeople of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years |
| 3:15 |
But when the childrenpeople of Israel cried untoto Jehovahthe JehovahLord the Lord raised up for them up a saviourdeliverer Ehud the son of Gera the BenjamiteBenjaminite a man left handed Andman theThe childrenpeople of Israel sent tribute by him untoto Eglon the king of Moab |
| 3:16 |
And Ehud made himfor himself a sword whichwith had two edges a cubit in length; and he girded it underon his raimentright uponthigh under his rightclothes thigh |
| 3:17 |
And he offeredpresented the tribute untoto Eglon king of Moab: nowNow Eglon was a very fat man |
| 3:18 |
And when heEhud had madefinished anpresenting end of offering the tribute he sent away the people that barecarried the tribute |
| 3:19 |
But he himself turned back fromat the quarriessculptured thatstones werenear by Gilgal and said I have a secret errandmessage untofor theeyou O king And he saidcommanded KeepSilence silence And all thathis stoodattendants by him went out from himhis presence |
| 3:20 |
And Ehud came untoto him; andas he was sitting by himself alone in thehis cool upperroof roomchamber And Ehud said I have a message from God untofor theeyou And he arose outfrom of his seat |
| 3:21 |
And Ehud putreached forthwith his left hand and took the sword from his right thigh and thrust it into his body:belly; |
| 3:22 |
and the hafthilt also went in after the blade; and the fat closed uponover the blade for he drewdid not draw the sword out of his bodybelly; and itthe dirt came out behind |
| 3:23 |
Then Ehud went forthout into the porchvestibule and shutclosed the doors of the upperroof roomchamber upon him and locked them |
| 3:24 |
NowWhen when he washad gone outthe his servants came; and when they saw andthat behold the doors of the upperroof roomchamber were locked; and they saidthought SurelyHe he is coveringonly hisrelieving feethimself in the uppercloset of the cool chamber |
| 3:25 |
And they tarriedwaited till they were ashamedutterly at a loss; andbut beholdwhen he openedstill did not open the doors of the upperroof room:chamber therefore they took the key and opened them; and beholdthere lay their lord was fallen down dead on the earthfloor |
| 3:26 |
And Ehud escaped while they tarrieddelayed and passed beyond the quarriessculptured stones and escaped untoto SeirahSe i′rah |
| 3:27 |
AndWhen it came to pass when he wasarrived come that he blewsounded athe trumpet in the hill country of EphraimE′phraim; and the childrenpeople of Israel went down with him from the hill country andhaving hehim beforeat themtheir head |
| 3:28 |
And he said untoto them Follow after me; for Jehovahthe hathLord deliveredhas given your enemies the Moabites into your hand AndSo they went down after him and tookseized the fords of the Jordan against the Moabites and sufferedallowed not a man to pass over |
| 3:29 |
And they smotekilled of Moab at that time about ten thousand menof everythe lustyMoabites manall andstrong everyable manbodied of valormen; and there escaped not a man escaped |
| 3:30 |
So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel And the land had rest fourscorefor eighty years |
| 3:31 |
AndAfter after him was Shamgar the son of Anath who smotekilled six hundred of the Philistines six hundred men with an oxoxgoad; goad: and he alsotoo saveddelivered Israel |
| 4:1 |
And the childrenpeople of Israel again did thatwhat which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe whenLord after Ehud wasdied dead |
| 4:2 |
And Jehovahthe Lord sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan thatwho reigned in Hazor; the captaincommander of whosehis hostarmy was SiseraSis′era who dwelt in HaroshethHaro′sheth ofha thegoiim Gentiles |
| 4:3 |
AndThen the childrenpeople of Israel cried untoto Jehovah:the Lord for help; for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twentyoppressed yearsthe hepeople mightilyof oppressedIsrael thecruelly childrenfor oftwenty Israelyears |
| 4:4 |
Now DeborahDeb′orah a prophetess the wife of LappidothLap′pidoth shewas judgedjudging Israel at that time |
| 4:5 |
AndShe sheused dweltto sit under the palm tree of DeborahDeb′orah between Ramah and BethBethel el in the hill country of Ephraim:E′phraim; and the childrenpeople of Israel came up to her for judgment |
| 4:6 |
AndShe she sent and calledsummoned Barak the son of AbinoamAbin′o outam offrom Kedesh naphtaliin Naph′tali and said untoto him HathThe notLord Jehovah the God of Israel commandedcommands sayingyou Go andgather drawyour untomen mountat Mount Tabor andtaking take with thee ten thousand menfrom of the childrentribe of NaphtaliNaph′tali and of the childrentribe of ZebulunZeb′ulun |
| 4:7 |
And I will draw untoout theeSis′era to the rivergeneral Kishonof SiseraJabins thearmy captainto ofmeet Jabinsyou armyby the river Kishon with his chariots and his multitudetroops; and I will delivergive him into thyyour hand |
| 4:8 |
And Barak said untoto her If thouyou wiltwill go with me then I will go; but if thouyou wiltwill not go with me I will not go |
| 4:9 |
And she said I will surely go with thee:you; notwithstandingnevertheless the journeyroad thaton thouwhich takestyou shallare going will not belead forto thineyour honor;glory for Jehovahthe Lord will sell SiseraSis′era into the hand of a woman AndThen DeborahDeb′orah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh |
| 4:10 |
And Barak calledsummoned ZebulunZeb′ulun and NaphtaliNaph′tali together to Kedesh; and there went up ten thousand men went up at his feet:heels; and DeborahDeb′orah went up with him |
| 4:11 |
Now Heber the KeniteKen′ite had separated himself from the KenitesKen′ites even from the childrendescendants of Hobab the brotherfather in law of Moses and had pitched his tent as far away as the oak in ZaanannimZa anan′nim which is bynear Kedesh |
| 4:12 |
AndWhen theySis′era was told Sisera that Barak the son of AbinoamAbin′o wasam had gone up to mountMount Tabor |
| 4:13 |
AndSis′era Siseracalled gatheredout together all his chariots even nine hundred chariots of iron and all the peoplemen thatwho were with him from HaroshethHaro′sheth ofha thegoiim Gentilesto unto the river Kishon |
| 4:14 |
And DeborahDeb′orah said untoto Barak Up; forFor this is the day in which Jehovahthe hathLord deliveredhas Siseragiven Sis′era into thyyour hand; isDoes not Jehovahthe goneLord go out before theeyou So Barak went down from mountMount Tabor andwith ten thousand men afterfollowing him |
| 4:15 |
And Jehovahthe discomfitedLord Siserarouted Sis′era and all his chariots and all his hostarmy withbefore Barak at the edge of the sword before Barak; and SiseraSis′era alighted from his chariot and fled away on hisfoot feet |
| 4:16 |
ButAnd Barak pursued after the chariots and after the hostarmy untoto HaroshethHaro′sheth ofha thegoiim Gentiles: and all the hostarmy of SiseraSis′era fell by the edge of the sword; there was not a man was left |
| 4:17 |
HowbeitBut SiseraSis′era fled away on hisfoot feet to the tent of JaelJa′el the wife of Heber the KeniteKen′ite; for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the KeniteKen′ite |
| 4:18 |
And JaelJa′el wentcame out to meet SiseraSis′era and said untoto him Turn inaside my lord turn inaside to me; have no fear notSo And he turned inaside untoto her into the tent and she covered him with a rug |
| 4:19 |
And he said untoto her GivePray give me I pray thee a little water to drink; for I am thirsty AndSo she opened a bottleskin of milk and gave him a drink and covered him |
| 4:20 |
And he said untoto her Stand inat the door of the tent and itif shall be when any man dothcomes come and inquireasks ofyou thee and say Is there any manone here that thou shalt say No |
| 4:21 |
ThenBut JaelJa′el Hebersthe wife of Heber took a tent pinpeg and took a hammer in her hand and went softly untoto him and smotedrove the pinpeg into his templestemple andtill it piercedwent throughdown into the ground; foras he was inlying afast deepasleep sleep;from soweariness So he swooned and died |
| 4:22 |
And behold as Barak pursued SiseraSis′era JaelJa′el camewent out to meet him and said untoto him Come and I will show theeyou the man whom thouyou seekestare Andseeking So he camewent untoin to her tent; and beholdthere Sisera lay Sis′era dead andwith the tent pinpeg was in his templestemple |
| 4:23 |
So God subdued on that day God subdued Jabin the king of Canaan before the childrenpeople of Israel |
| 4:24 |
And the hand of the childrenpeople of Israel prevailedbore moreharder and moreharder againston Jabin the king of Canaan until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan |

AndFor sowhenever itthe wasIsraelites whenput Israelin hadseed sown that the MidianitesMid′ianites came up and the AmalekitesAmal′ekites and the childrenpeople of the east;East theywould camecome up againstand attack them; |
| 6:4 |
and they encampedwould encamp against them and destroyeddestroy the increaseproduce of the earthland tillas thoufar comeas untothe neighborhood of Gaza and leftleave no sustenance in Israel neitherand no sheep noror ox noror ass |
| 6:5 |
For they camewould come up with their cattle and their tents; theycoming camelike in as locusts for multitudenumber; both they and their camels werecould withoutnot number:be andcounted; so that they camewasted into the land toas destroythey itcame in |
| 6:6 |
And Israel was brought very low because of MidianMid′ian; and the childrenpeople of Israel cried untofor Jehovahhelp to the Lord |
| 6:7 |
AndWhen it came to pass when the childrenpeople of Israel cried untoto Jehovahthe becauseLord on account of Midianthe Mid′ianites |
| 6:8 |
thatthe JehovahLord sent a prophet untoto the childrenpeople of Israel:; and he said untoto them Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord the God of Israel: I broughtled you up from Egypt and brought you forth out of the house of bondage; |
| 6:9 |
and I delivered you outfrom of the hand of the Egyptians and outfrom of the hand of all thatwho oppressed you and drove them out from before you and gave you their land; |
| 6:10 |
and I said untoto you I am Jehovahthe Lord your God; yeyou shall not fearpay reverence to the gods of the Amorites in whose land yeyou dwell But yeyou have not hearkenedgiven untoheed to my voice |
| 6:11 |
AndNow the angel of Jehovahthe Lord came and sat under the oak whichat was in Ophrah thatwhich pertainedbelonged untoto JoashJo′ash the Abiezrite:Abiez′rite andas his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the winepresswine press to hide it from the MidianitesMid′ianites |
| 6:12 |
And the angel of Jehovahthe Lord appeared untoto him and said untoto him JehovahThe Lord is with theeyou thouyou mighty man of valor |
| 6:13 |
And Gideon said untoto him OhPray mysir lord if Jehovahthe Lord is with us why then ishas all this befallen us andAnd where are all his wondrouswonderful worksdeeds which our fathers toldrecounted to us of saying Did not Jehovahthe Lord bring us up from Egypt butBut now Jehovahthe hathLord has cast us off and deliveredgiven us into the hand of MidianMid′ian |
| 6:14 |
And Jehovahthe lookedLord uponturned to him and said Go in this thy might of yours and savedeliver Israel from the hand of Midian:Mid′ian; havedo not I sentsend theeyou |
| 6:15 |
And he said untoto him OhPray Lord wherewithhow shallcan I savedeliver Israel beholdBehold my familyclan is the poorestweakest in ManassehManas′seh and I am the least in my fathersfamily house |
| 6:16 |
And Jehovahthe Lord said untoto him SurelyBut I will be with theeyou and thouyou shaltshall smite the MidianitesMid′ianites as one man |
| 6:17 |
And he said untoto him If now I have found favor inwith thythee sight then show me a sign that it is thou thatwho talkestspeakest with me |
| 6:18 |
DepartDo not hencedepart from here I pray thee until I come untoto thee and bring forthout my present and layset it before thee And he said I will tarrystay untiltill thouyou come againreturn |
| 6:19 |
AndSo Gideon went ininto his house and madeprepared ready a kid and unleavened cakes offrom an ephah of meal:flour; the fleshmeat he put in a basket and the broth he put the broth in a pot and brought itthem outto unto him under the oak and presented itthem |
| 6:20 |
And the angel of God said untoto him Take the fleshmeat and the unleavened cakes and layput them uponon this rock and pour out the broth over them And he did so |
| 6:21 |
Then the angel of Jehovahthe putLord forthreached out the endtip of the staff that was in his hand and touched the fleshmeat and the unleavened cakes; and there wentsprang up fire outfrom of the rock and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and the angel of Jehovahthe departedLord outvanished offrom his sight |
| 6:22 |
AndThen Gideon sawperceived that he was the angel of Jehovahthe Lord; and Gideon said Alas O Lord JehovahGod forasmuchFor asnow I have seen the angel of Jehovahthe Lord face to face |
| 6:23 |
AndBut Jehovahthe Lord said untoto him Peace be untoto theeyou; feardo not: thoufear shaltyou shall not die |
| 6:24 |
Then Gideon built an altar there untoto Jehovahthe Lord and called it JehovahThe shalom:Lord untois peace To this day it isstill yetstands inat Ophrah ofwhich belongs to the AbiezritesAbiez′rites |
| 6:25 |
AndThat itnight came to pass the sameLord night that Jehovah said untoto him Take thyyour fathers bullockbull even the second bullockbull seven years old and throwpull down the altar of BaalBa′al thatwhich thyyour father hathhas and cut down the AsherahAshe′rah that is bybeside it; |
| 6:26 |
and build an altar untoto Jehovahthe thyLord your God uponon the top of thisthe stronghold here with stones laid in thedue orderlyorder; mannerthen and take the second bullockbull and offer it as a burnt offering with the wood of the AsherahAshe′rah which thouyou shaltshall cut down |
| 6:27 |
ThenSo Gideon took ten men of his servants and did as Jehovahthe Lord had spokentold unto him:; andbut itbecause camehe towas passtoo becauseafraid heof feared his fathersfamily household and the men of the citytown soto that he could not do it by day that he did it by night |
| 6:28 |
AndWhen when the men of the citytown aroserose early in the morning behold the altar of BaalBa′al was broken down and the AsherahAshe′rah beside it was cut down that was by it and the second bullockbull was offered upon the altar thatwhich washad been built |
| 6:29 |
And they said to one to another Who hathhas done this thing And whenafter they inquiredhad made search and askedinquired they said Gideon the son of JoashJo′ash hathhas done this thing |
| 6:30 |
Then the men of the citytown said untoto JoashJo′ash Bring out thyyour son that he may die becausefor he hathhas brokenpulled down the altar of BaalBa′al and because he hath cut down the AsherahAshe′rah thatbeside was by it |
| 6:31 |
AndBut JoashJo′ash said untoto all thatwho stoodwere arrayed against him Will yeyou contend for BaalBa′al orOr will yeyou savedefend himhis hecause thatWhoever willcontends contend for him letshall him be put to death whilstby it is yet morning: ifIf he beis a god let him contend for himself because onehis hathaltar brokenhas downbeen hispulled altardown |
| 6:32 |
Therefore on that day he was called himJerubba′al Jerubbaalthat sayingis to say Let BaalBa′al contend against him because he hathpulled broken down his altar |
| 6:33 |
Then all the MidianitesMid′ianites and the AmalekitesAmal′ekites and the childrenpeople of the eastEast assembledcame themselves together; and theycrossing passedthe overJordan andthey encamped in the valleyValley of Jezreel |
| 6:34 |
But the Spirit of Jehovahthe cameLord upontook possession of Gideon; and he blewsounded athe trumpet; and Abiezerthe wasAbiez′rites gatheredwere togethercalled afterout to follow him |
| 6:35 |
And he sent messengers throughout all ManassehManas′seh; and they alsotoo were gatheredcalled togetherout afterto follow him: andAnd he sent messengers untoto Asher andZeb′ulun unto Zebulun and unto NaphtaliNaph′tali; and they camewent up to meet them |
| 6:36 |
AndThen Gideon said untoto God If thou wilt savedeliver Israel by my hand as thou hast spokensaid |
| 6:37 |
behold I willam putlaying a fleece of wool on the threshing floor; if there beis dew on the fleece onlyalone and it beis dry uponon all the ground then I shall I know that thou wilt savedeliver Israel by my hand as thou hast spokensaid |
| 6:38 |
And it was so; forWhen he rose up early onnext themorning morrow and pressedsqueezed the fleece togetherhe and wrung theenough dew outfrom of the fleece to fill a bowlfulbowl ofwith water |
| 6:39 |
AndThen Gideon said untoto God Let not thinethy anger beburn kindled against me andlet Ime will speak but this once:; pray let me make trial Ionly pray thee but this once with the fleece; pray let it now be dry only uponon the fleece and uponon all the ground let there be dew |
| 6:40 |
And God did so that night:; for it was dry uponon the fleece only and there was dew on all the ground there was dew |
| 7:1 |
Then JerubbaalJerubba′al whothat is Gideon and all the people thatwho were with him rose up early and encamped beside the spring of Harod:; and the camp of MidianMid′ian was on the north side of them by the hill of Moreh in the valley |
| 7:2 |
AndThe JehovahLord said untoto Gideon The people that are with theeyou are too many for me to give the MidianitesMid′ianites into their hand lest Israel vaunt themselves against me saying MineMy own hand hathhas saveddelivered me |
| 7:3 |
Now therefore proclaim in the ears of the people saying WhosoeverWhoever is fearful and trembling let him return andhome depart from mount Gilead And thereGideon returnedtested ofthem; the people twenty and two thousand; returned and there remained ten thousand remained |
| 7:4 |
And Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Gideon The people are yetstill too many; bringtake them down untoto the water and I will trytest them for theeyou there:; and ithe shall be that of whom I say untoto theeyou This man shall go with theeyou the same shall go with theeyou; and any of whomsoeverwhom I say untoto theeyou This man shall not go with theeyou the same shall not go |
| 7:5 |
So he brought down the people untodown to the water:; and Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Gideon Every one that lappethlaps of the water with his tongue as a dog lappethlaps himyou shaltshall thou set by himself; likewise every one that bowethkneels down upon his knees to drink |
| 7:6 |
And the number of themthose that lapped putting their handhands to their mouthmouths was three hundred men:; but all the rest of the people bowedknelt down upon their knees to drink water |
| 7:7 |
And Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Gideon ByWith the three hundred men that lapped I will Ideliver save you and delivergive the MidianitesMid′ianites into thyyour hand; and let all the peopleothers go every man untoto his placehome |
| 7:8 |
So he took the peoplejars tookof victualsthe inpeople from their handhands and their trumpets; and he sent all the menrest of Israel every man untoto his tent but retained the three hundred men:; and the camp of MidianMid′ian was beneathbelow him in the valley |
| 7:9 |
AndThat it came to pass the same night thatthe JehovahLord said untoto him Arise getgo thee down intoagainst the camp; for I have deliveredgiven it into thyyour hand |
| 7:10 |
But if thouyou fear to go down go thoudown to the camp with Purah thyyour servant; down to the camp: |
| 7:11 |
and thouyou shaltshall hear what they say; and afterward shallyour thy hands shall be strengthened to go down intoagainst the camp Then he went he down with Purah his servant untoto the outermostoutposts part of the armed men that were in the camp |
| 7:12 |
And the MidianitesMid′ianites and the AmalekitesAmal′ekites and all the childrenpeople of the eastEast lay along in the valley like locusts for multitude; and their camels were without number as the sand which is upon the seaseashore shore for multitude |
| 7:13 |
AndWhen when Gideon wascame come behold there was a man was telling a dream untoto his fellowcomrade; and he said Behold I dreamed a dream; and lo a cake of barley bread tumbled into the camp of MidianMid′ian and came untoto the tent and smotestruck it so that it fell and turned it upside down so that the tent lay flat |
| 7:14 |
And his fellowcomrade answered and said This is nothingno elseother savethan the sword of Gideon the son of JoashJo′ash a man of Israel:; into his hand God hathhas deliveredgiven MidianMid′ian and all the host |
| 7:15 |
AndWhen it was so when Gideon heard the telling of the dream and theits interpretation thereof that he worshippedworshiped; and he returned intoto the camp of Israel and said Arise; for Jehovahthe hathLord deliveredhas intogiven your hand the host of MidianMid′ian into your hand |
| 7:16 |
And he divided the three hundred men into three companies and he put trumpets into the hands of all of them trumpets and empty pitchersjars with torches withininside the pitchersjars |
| 7:17 |
And he said untoto them Look onat me and do likewise:; and behold when I come to the outermostoutskirts part of the camp itdo shall be that as I do so shall ye do |
| 7:18 |
When I blow the trumpet I and all thatwho are with me then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp and sayshout For Jehovahthe Lord and for Gideon |
| 7:19 |
So Gideon and the hundred men thatwho were with him came untoto the outermostoutskirts part of the camp inat the beginning of the middle watch when they had butjust newly set the watch:; and they blew the trumpets and brakesmashed in pieces the pitchersjars that were in their hands |
| 7:20 |
And the three companies blew the trumpets and brakebroke the pitchersjars andholding held the torches in their left hands and the trumpetstorches and in their right hands wherewiththe trumpets to blow; and they cried TheA sword offor Jehovahthe Lord and offor Gideon |
| 7:21 |
AndThey they stood every man in his place round about the camp; and all the hostarmy ran; and they shoutedcried out and putfled them to flight |
| 7:22 |
AndWhen they blew the three hundred trumpets andthe JehovahLord set every mans sword against his fellow and against all the hostarmy; and the hostarmy fled as far as Beth shittahshit′tah toward ZererahZer′erah as far as the border of AbelA′bel meholahmeho′lah by Tabbath |
| 7:23 |
And the men of Israel were gatheredcalled together out offrom NaphtaliNaph′tali and outfrom of Asher and outfrom of all ManassehManas′seh and they pursued after MidianMid′ian |
| 7:24 |
And Gideon sent messengers throughout all the hill country of EphraimE′phraim saying Come down against Midianthe Mid′ianites and takeseize before them the waters against them as far as Beth barahbar′ah evenand also the Jordan So all the men of EphraimE′phraim were gatheredcalled togetherout and tookthey seized the waters as far as Beth barahbar′ah evenand also the Jordan |
| 7:25 |
And they took the two princes of MidianMid′ian Oreb and Zeeb; and they slewkilled Oreb at the rock of Oreb and Zeeb they slewkilled at the winepresswine press of Zeeb andas they pursued Midian:Mid′ian; and they brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon beyond the Jordan |
| 8:1 |
And the men of EphraimE′phraim said untoto him WhyWhat hastis thouthis servedthat usyou thushave thatdone thouto calledst us not to call us when thouyou wentestwent to fight with MidianMid′ian And they didupbraided chide with him sharplyviolently |
| 8:2 |
And he said untoto them What have I done now done in comparison with you Is not the gleaning of the grapes of EphraimE′phraim better than the vintage of AbiezerAbi e′zer |
| 8:3 |
God hathhas deliveredgiven into your handhands the princes of MidianMid′ian Oreb and Zeeb:; and what washave I been able to do in comparison with you Then their anger against him was abated toward him when he had said thatthis |
| 8:4 |
And Gideon came to the Jordan and passed over he and the three hundred men thatwho were with him faint yet pursuing |
| 8:5 |
AndSo he said untoto the men of Succoth GivePray Igive pray you loaves of bread untoto the people thatwho follow me; for they are faint and I am pursuing after Zebah and ZalmunnaZalmun′na the kings of MidianMid′ian |
| 8:6 |
And the princesofficials of Succoth said Are the hands of Zebah and ZalmunnaZalmun′na nowalready in thyyour hand that we should give bread untoto thineyour army |
| 8:7 |
And Gideon said ThereforeWell then when Jehovahthe hathLord deliveredhas given Zebah and ZalmunnaZalmun′na into my hand then I will tearflail your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers |
| 8:8 |
And from there he went up thence to PenuelPenu′el and spakespoke untoto them in likethe mannersame way; and the men of PenuelPenu′el answered him as the men of Succoth had answered |
| 8:9 |
And he spakesaid alsoto unto the men of PenuelPenu′el saying When I come again in peace I will break down this tower |
| 8:10 |
Now Zebah and ZalmunnaZalmun′na were in Karkor andwith their hostsarmy with them about fifteen thousand men all thatwho were left of all the hostarmy of the childrenpeople of the eastEast; for there fellhad fallen a hundred and twenty thousand men thatwho drew the sword |
| 8:11 |
And Gideon went up by the waycaravan ofroute them that dwelt in tents on the east of Nobah and JogbehahJog′behah and smoteattacked the hostarmy; for the hostarmy was secureoff its guard |
| 8:12 |
And Zebah and ZalmunnaZalmun′na fled; and he pursued after them; and he took the two kings of MidianMid′ian Zebah and ZalmunnaZalmun′na and discomfitedhe threw all the hostarmy into a panic |
| 8:13 |
AndThen Gideon the son of JoashJo′ash returned from the battle fromby the ascent of Heres |
| 8:14 |
And he caught a young man of the men of Succoth and inquiredquestioned of him:; and he describedwrote down for him the princesofficials of Succoth and the elders thereofof Succoth seventy and seven men |
| 8:15 |
And he came untoto the men of Succoth and said Behold Zebah and ZalmunnaZalmun′na concerningabout whom yeyou didtaunted taunt me saying Are the hands of Zebah and ZalmunnaZalmun′na nowalready in thyyour hand that we should give bread untoto thyyour men thatwho are wearyfaint |
| 8:16 |
And he took the elders of the city and he took thorns of the wilderness and briers and with them he taught the men of Succoth |
| 8:17 |
And he brakebroke down the tower of PenuelPenu′el and slew the men of the city |
| 8:18 |
Then he said heto unto Zebah and ZalmunnaZalmun′na WhatWhere mannerare ofthe men were they whom yeyou slew at Tabor AndThey they answered As thouyou artare so were they; eachevery one of them; they resembled the childrensons of a king |
| 8:19 |
And he said They were my brethrenbrothers the sons of my mother:; as Jehovahthe livethLord lives if yeyou had saved them alive I would not slay you |
| 8:20 |
And he said untoto Jether his first born UpRise and slay them But the youth drewdid not draw his sword; for he fearedwas afraid because he was yetstill a youth |
| 8:21 |
Then Zebah and ZalmunnaZalmun′na said Rise thouyourself and fall upon us; for as the man is so is his strength And Gideon arose and slew Zebah and ZalmunnaZalmun′na; and he took the crescents that were on the necks of their camels necks |
| 8:22 |
Then the men of Israel said untoto Gideon Rule thou over us bothyou thou and thyyour son and thyyour sonsgrandson son also; for thouyou hasthave saveddelivered us out of the hand of MidianMid′ian |
| 8:23 |
And Gideon said untoto them I will not rule over you neitherand shall my son will not rule over you:; Jehovahthe shallLord will rule over you |
| 8:24 |
And Gideon said untoto them ILet wouldme make a request of you; that ye would give me every man of you the earearrings rings of his spoil For they had golden earearrings rings because they were IshmaelitesIsh′maelites |
| 8:25 |
And they answered We will willingly give them And they spread a garment and didevery man cast thereinin everyit man the earearrings rings of his spoil |
| 8:26 |
And the weight of the golden earearrings rings that he requested was aone thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold; besides the crescents and the pendants and the purple raimentgarments thatworn wasby on the kings of MidianMid′ian and besides the chainscollars that were about the necks of their camels necks |
| 8:27 |
And Gideon made an ephod thereofof it and put it in his city even in Ophrah:; and all Israel played the harlot after it there; and it became a snare untoto Gideon and to his housefamily |
| 8:28 |
So MidianMid′ian was subdued before the childrenpeople of Israel and they lifted up their heads no more And the land had rest forty years in the days of Gideon |
| 8:29 |
AndJerubba′al Jerubbaal the son of JoashJo′ash went and dwelt in his own house |
| 8:30 |
AndNow Gideon had threescoreseventy and ten sons of his bodyown begotten;offspring for he had many wives |
| 8:31 |
And his concubine thatwho was in Shechem she also barebore him a son and he called his name AbimelechAbim′elech |
| 8:32 |
And Gideon the son of JoashJo′ash died in a good old age and was buried in the sepulchretomb of JoashJo′ash his father inat Ophrah of the AbiezritesAbiez′rites |
| 8:33 |
AndAs it came to pass as soon as Gideon wasdied dead that the childrenpeople of Israel turned again and played the harlot after the BaalimBa′als and made BaalBa′al berithbe′rith their god |
| 8:34 |
And the childrenpeople of Israel remembereddid not Jehovahremember the Lord their God who had deliveredrescued them outfrom of the hand of all their enemies on every side; |
| 8:35 |
neitherand showed they did not show kindness to the housefamily of JerubbaalJerubba′al whothat is Gideon accordingin toreturn for all the goodnessgood whichthat he had showeddone untoto Israel |
| 9:1 |
AndNow AbimelechAbim′elech the son of JerubbaalJerubba′al went to Shechem untoto his mothers brethrenkinsmen and spakesaid withto them and withto all the familywhole ofclan the house of his mothers fatherfamily saying |
| 9:2 |
SpeakSay I pray you in the ears of all the mencitizens of Shechem WhetherWhich is better for you that all seventy of the sons of JerubbaalJerubba′al who are threescore and ten persons rule over you or that one rule over you rememberRemember also that I am your bone and your flesh |
| 9:3 |
And his mothers brethrenkinsmen spakespoke ofall himthese words on his behalf in the ears of all the men of Shechem; all these words: and their hearts inclined to follow Abimelech;Abim′elech for they said He is our brother |
| 9:4 |
And they gave him threescoreseventy and ten pieces of silver out of the house of BaalBa′al berithbe′rith wherewithwith Abimelechwhich Abim′elech hired vainworthless and lightreckless fellows who followed him |
| 9:5 |
And he went untoto his fathers house at Ophrah and slew his brethrenbrothers the sons of JerubbaalJerubba′al beingseventy threescoremen and ten persons upon one stone:; but Jotham the youngest son of JerubbaalJerubba′al was left; for he hid himself |
| 9:6 |
And all the mencitizens of Shechem assembledcame themselves together and all theBeth housemillo ofand Millothey and went and made AbimelechAbim′elech king by the oak of the pillar thatat was in Shechem |
| 9:7 |
AndWhen whenit theywas told it to Jotham he went and stood on the top of mountMount GerizimGer′izim and liftedcried upaloud his voice and cried and said untoto them HearkenListen untoto me yeyou men of Shechem that God may hearkenlisten untoto you |
| 9:8 |
The trees once went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said untoto the olive tree Reign thou over us |
| 9:9 |
But the olive tree said untoto them ShouldShall I leave my fatness wherewith by mewhich theygods honorand Godmen andare manhonored and go to wavesway to and fro over the trees |
| 9:10 |
And the trees said to the fig tree Come thouyou and reign over us |
| 9:11 |
But the fig tree said untoto them ShouldShall I leave my sweetness and my good fruit and go to wavesway to and fro over the trees |
| 9:12 |
And the trees said untoto the vine Come thouyou and reign over us |
| 9:13 |
AndBut the vine said untoto them ShouldShall I leave my new wine which cheerethcheers Godgods and manmen and go to wavesway to and fro over the trees |
| 9:14 |
Then said all the trees untosaid to the bramble Come thouyou and reign over us |
| 9:15 |
And the bramble said untoto the trees If in truthgood yefaith anointyou are anointing me king over you then come and take refuge in my shade; andbut if not let fire come out of the bramble and devour the cedars of Lebanon |
| 9:16 |
Now therefore if yeyou haveacted dealtin trulygood faith and uprightlyhonor inwhen thatyou ye have made AbimelechAbim′elech king and if yeyou have dealt well with JerubbaalJerubba′al and his house and have done untoto him accordingas tohis thedeeds deservingdeserved— of his hands |
| 9:17 |
for my father fought for you and adventuredrisked his life and deliveredrescued you outfrom of the hand of Midian:Mid′ian; |
| 9:18 |
and yeyou arehave risen up against my fathers house this day and have slain his sons threescoreseventy andmen tenon persons upon one stone and have made AbimelechAbim′elech the son of his maidmaidservant servant king over the mencitizens of Shechem because he is your brother;kinsman— |
| 9:19 |
if yeyou then have dealtacted trulyin good faith and uprightlyhonor with JerubbaalJerubba′al and with his house this day then rejoice ye in AbimelechAbim′elech and let him also rejoice in you:; |
| 9:20 |
but if not let fire come out from AbimelechAbim′elech and devour the mencitizens of Shechem and theBeth house of Millomillo; and let fire come out from the mencitizens of Shechem and from theBeth housemillo of Millo and devour AbimelechAbim′elech |
| 9:21 |
And Jotham ran away and fled and went to Beer and dwelt there for fear of AbimelechAbim′elech his brother |
| 9:22 |
AndAbim′elech Abimelechruled was prince over Israel three years |
| 9:23 |
And God sent an evil spirit between AbimelechAbim′elech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:Abim′elech; |
| 9:24 |
that the violence done to the threescoreseventy and ten sons of JerubbaalJerubba′al might come and that their blood might be laid upon AbimelechAbim′elech their brother who slew them and upon the men of Shechem who strengthened his hands to slay his brethrenbrothers |
| 9:25 |
And the men of Shechem setput liersmen in waitambush foragainst him on the mountain tops of the mountains and they robbed all thatwho camepassed by them along that way; by them: and it was told AbimelechAbim′elech |
| 9:26 |
And GaalGa′al the son of Ebed camemoved into Shechem with his brethren and went over to Shechemkinsmen; and the men of Shechem put theirconfidence trust in him |
| 9:27 |
And they went out into the field and gathered the grapes from their vineyards and trod thethem grapes and held festival and went into the house of their god and didate eat and drinkdrank and cursedreviled AbimelechAbim′elech |
| 9:28 |
And GaalGa′al the son of Ebed said Who is AbimelechAbim′elech and who isare we of Shechem that we should serve him isDid not he the son of JerubbaalJerubba′al and Zebul his officer serve ye the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: butWhy whythen should we serve him |
| 9:29 |
AndWould would that this people were under my hand then I would I remove AbimelechAbim′elech AndI hewould saidsay to AbimelechAbim′elech Increase thineyour army and come out |
| 9:30 |
AndWhen when Zebul the ruler of the city heard the words of GaalGa′al the son of Ebed his anger was kindled |
| 9:31 |
And he sent messengers untoto AbimelechAbim′elech craftilyat Aru′mah saying Behold GaalGa′al the son of Ebed and his brethrenkinsmen arehave come to Shechem; and behold they constrainare stirring up the city to take part against theeyou |
| 9:32 |
Now therefore upgo by night thouyou and the peoplemen that are with theeyou and lie in wait in the field:fields |
| 9:33 |
andThen it shall be that in the morning as soon as the sun is up thou shalt rise early and rush upon the city; and behold when he and the peoplemen that are with him come out against theeyou thenyou mayestmay thou do to them as thouoccasion shalt find occasionoffers |
| 9:34 |
And AbimelechAbim′elech rose up and all the peoplemen that were with him rose up by night and they laid wait against Shechem in four companies |
| 9:35 |
And GaalGa′al the son of Ebed went out and stood in the entrance of the gate of the city:; and AbimelechAbim′elech rose up and the peoplemen that were with him rose from the ambushmentambush |
| 9:36 |
And when GaalGa′al saw the peoplemen he said to Zebul BeholdLook theremen comeare peoplecoming down from the mountain tops of the mountains And Zebul said untoto him ThouYou seestsee the shadow of the mountains as if they were men |
| 9:37 |
AndGa′al Gaalspoke spake again and said SeeLook theremen comeare peoplecoming down byfrom the middlecenter of the land and one company comethis bycoming from the waydirection of the oakDiviners ofOak Meonenim |
| 9:38 |
Then Zebul said Zebulto unto him Where is nowyour thy mouth thatnow thouyou saidstwho said Who is AbimelechAbim′elech that we should serve him isAre not thisthese the peoplemen thatwhom thouyou hast despised goGo out now I pray and fight with them |
| 9:39 |
And GaalGa′al went out beforeat the head of the men of Shechem and fought with AbimelechAbim′elech |
| 9:40 |
And AbimelechAbim′elech chased him and he fled before him; and theremany fell many wounded evenup untoto the entrance of the gate |
| 9:41 |
And AbimelechAbim′elech dwelt at Arumah:Aru′mah; and Zebul drove out GaalGa′al and his brethrenkinsmen so that they shouldcould not dwelllive inon at Shechem |
| 9:42 |
AndOn it came to pass on the morrowfollowing thatday the peoplemen went out into the field;fields andAnd theyAbim′elech was told Abimelech |
| 9:43 |
AndHe he took thehis peoplemen and divided them into three companies and laid wait in the fieldfields; and he looked and beholdsaw the peoplemen camecoming forth out of the city; and he rose up against them and smoteslew them |
| 9:44 |
AndAbim′elech Abimelech and the companiescompany that werewas with him rushed forward and stood inat the entrance of the gate of the city: andwhile the two companies rushed upon all thatwho were in the fieldfields and smoteslew them |
| 9:45 |
And AbimelechAbim′elech fought against the city all that day; and he took the city and slewkilled the people that were therein:in it; and he beatrazed down the city and sowed it with salt |
| 9:46 |
AndWhen when all the menpeople of the towerTower of Shechem heard thereofof it they entered into the stronghold of the house of ElberithEl be′rith |
| 9:47 |
AndAbim′elech it was told Abimelech that all the menpeople of the towerTower of Shechem were gathered together |
| 9:48 |
And AbimelechAbim′elech gatwent him up to mountMount Zalmon he and all the peoplemen that were with him; and AbimelechAbim′elech took an axe in his hand and cut down a boughbundle fromof thebrushwood trees and took it up and laid it on his shoulder: andAnd he said untoto the peoplemen that were with him What yeyou have seen me do make haste andto do as I have done |
| 9:49 |
AndSo allevery one of the people likewise cut down every man his boughbundle and followedfollowing AbimelechAbim′elech and put themit toagainst the stronghold and they set the stronghold on fire uponover them; so that all the menpeople of the towerTower of Shechem also died also about a thousand men and women |
| 9:50 |
Then Abim′elech went Abimelech to Thebez and encamped against Thebez and took it |
| 9:51 |
But there was a strong tower within the city and thitherall fledthe allpeople of the mencity andfled womento andit all theythe ofmen theand citywomen and shut themselves in; and gatthey themwent up to the roof of the tower |
| 9:52 |
And AbimelechAbim′elech came untoto the tower and fought against it and drew near untoto the door of the tower to burn it with fire |
| 9:53 |
And a certain woman castthrew an upper millstone upon AbimelechsAbim′elechs head and brakecrushed his skull |
| 9:54 |
Then he called hastily untoto the young man his armorbearerarmor bearer and said untoto him Draw thyyour sword and kill me thatlest men say not of me A woman slewkilled him And his young man thrust him through and he died |
| 9:55 |
And when the men of Israel saw that AbimelechAbim′elech was dead they departed every man untoto his placehome |
| 9:56 |
Thus God requited the wickednesscrime of AbimelechAbim′elech which he didcommitted untoagainst his father in slayingkilling his seventy brethrenbrothers; |
| 9:57 |
and God also made all the wickedness of the men of Shechem didfall Godback requite upon their heads: and upon them came the curse of Jotham the son of JerubbaalJerubba′al |
| 10:1 |
AndAfter afterAbim′elech Abimelech there arose to savedeliver Israel Tola the son of PuahPu′ah the son of Dodo a man of IssacharIs′sachar; and he dweltlived inat Shamir in the hill country of EphraimE′phraim |
| 10:2 |
And he judged Israel twenty and three years andThen he died and was buried inat Shamir |
| 10:3 |
AndAfter after him arose JairJa′ir the Gileadite; andwho he judged Israel twenty and two years |
| 10:4 |
And he had thirty sons thatwho rode on thirty assasses; colts and they had thirty cities which are called HavvothHav′voth jairja′ir untoto this day which are in the land of Gilead |
| 10:5 |
And JairJa′ir died and was buried in Kamon |
| 10:6 |
And the childrenpeople of Israel again did thatwhat which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord and served the BaalimBa′als and the AshtarothAsh′taroth and the gods of Syria and the gods of Sidon and the gods of Moab and the gods of the childrenAmmonites of Ammon and the gods of the Philistines; and they forsook Jehovahthe Lord and serveddid not serve him not |
| 10:7 |
And the anger of Jehovahthe Lord was kindled against Israel and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines and into the hand of the childrenAmmonites of Ammon |
| 10:8 |
Andand they vexedcrushed and oppressed the children of Israel that year: For eighteen years they oppressed they all the childrenpeople of Israel that were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites which is in Gilead |
| 10:9 |
And the childrenAmmonites ofcrossed Ammon passed over the Jordan to fight also against Judah and against Benjamin and against the house of EphraimE′phraim; so that Israel was soresorely distressed |
| 10:10 |
And the childrenpeople of Israel cried untoto Jehovahthe Lord saying We have sinned against thee even because we have forsaken our God and have served the BaalimBa′als |
| 10:11 |
And Jehovahthe Lord said untoto the childrenpeople of Israel Did I not Ideliver save you from the Egyptians and from the Amorites from the childrenAmmonites of Ammon and from the Philistines |
| 10:12 |
The SidoniansSido′nians also and the AmalekitesAmal′ekites and the MaonitesMa′onites didoppressed oppress you; and yeyou cried untoto me and I saveddelivered you out of their hand |
| 10:13 |
Yet yeyou have forsaken me and served other gods:; whereforetherefore I will savedeliver you no more |
| 10:14 |
Go and cry untoto the gods whichwhom yeyou have chosen; let them savedeliver you in the time of your distress |
| 10:15 |
And the childrenpeople of Israel said untoto Jehovahthe Lord We have sinned:; do thouto unto us whatsoeverwhatever seemethseems good untoto thee; only deliver us we pray thee this day |
| 10:16 |
AndSo they put away the foreign gods from among them and served Jehovahthe Lord; and hishe soulbecame wasindignant grievedover for the misery of Israel |
| 10:17 |
Then the childrenAmmonites ofwere Ammoncalled wereto gatheredarms together and they encamped in Gilead; Andand the childrenpeople of Israel assembledcame themselves together and they encamped inat Mizpah |
| 10:18 |
And the people the princesleaders of Gilead said one to another WhatWho man is hethe man that will begin to fight against the childrenAmmonites ofHe Ammon he shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead |
| 11:1 |
Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty manwarrior ofbut valor and he was the son of a harlot: and Gilead begatwas the father of Jephthah |
| 11:2 |
And Gileads wife barealso bore him sons; and when his wifes sons grew up they drovethrust Jephthah out Jephthah and said untoto him ThouYou shaltshall not inherit in our fathers house; for thouyou artare the son of another woman |
| 11:3 |
Then Jephthah fled from his brethrenbrothers and dwelt in the land of Tob:; and thereworthless werefellows gatheredcollected vainround fellows to Jephthah and they went outraiding with him |
| 11:4 |
AndAfter it came to pass after a whiletime that the childrenAmmonites of Ammon made war against Israel |
| 11:5 |
And it was so that when the childrenAmmonites of Ammon made war against Israel the elders of Gilead went to fetchbring Jephthah outfrom of the land of Tob; |
| 11:6 |
and they said untoto Jephthah Come and be our chiefleader that we may fight with the childrenAmmonites of Ammon |
| 11:7 |
AndBut Jephthah said untoto the elders of Gilead Did you not ye hate me and drive me out of my fathers house andWhy whyhave areyou ye come untoto me now when yeyou are in distresstrouble |
| 11:8 |
And the elders of Gilead said untoto Jephthah ThereforeThat areis why we have turned again to theeyou now that thouyou mayestmay go with us and fight with the childrenAmmonites of Ammon; and thou shalt be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead |
| 11:9 |
And Jephthah said untoto the elders of Gilead If yeyou bring me home again to fight with the childrenAmmonites ofand Ammonthe andLord Jehovahgives deliver them beforeover to me shall I will be your head |
| 11:10 |
And the elders of Gilead said untoto Jephthah JehovahThe shallLord will be witness between us; surelywe accordingwill tosurely thydo wordas soyou willsay we do |
| 11:11 |
ThenSo Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead and the people made him head and chiefleader over them:; and Jephthah spakespoke all his words before Jehovahthe inLord at Mizpah |
| 11:12 |
AndThen Jephthah sent messengers untoto the king of the childrenAmmonites ofand Ammonsaid saying What hasthave thouyou toagainst do with me that thouyou arthave come untoto me to fight against my land |
| 11:13 |
And the king of the childrenAmmonites of Ammon answered unto the messengers of Jephthah Because Israel on coming from Egypt took away my land when he came up out of Egypt from the Arnon evento unto the Jabbok and untoto the Jordan:; now therefore restore thoseit lands again peaceably |
| 11:14 |
And Jephthah sent messengers again untoto the king of the childrenAmmonites of Ammon; |
| 11:15 |
and he said untoto him Thus saithsays Jephthah: Israel tookdid not take away the land of Moab noror the land of the childrenAmmonites of Ammon; |
| 11:16 |
but when they came up from Egypt and Israel went through the wilderness untoto the Red Sea and came to Kadesh; |
| 11:17 |
Israel then Israel sent messengers untoto the king of Edom saying Let meus Ipass we pray thee pass through thyyour land; but the king of Edom hearkenedwould not listen And inthey likesent manneralso heto sent unto the king of Moab; but he would not: andconsent So Israel aboderemained inat Kadesh |
| 11:18 |
Then they wentjourneyed through the wilderness and went around the land of Edom and the land of Moab and camearrived byon the east side of the land of Moab and theycamped encamped on the other side of the Arnon; but they camedid not withinenter the borderterritory of Moab for the Arnon was the borderboundary of Moab |
| 11:19 |
And Israel then sent messengers untoto Sihon king of the Amorites the king of Heshbon; and Israel said untoto him Let us pass we pray thee through thyyour land untoto myour placecountry |
| 11:20 |
But Sihon trusteddid not trust Israel to pass through his borderterritory; butso Sihon gathered all his people together and encamped inat Jahaz and fought againstwith Israel |
| 11:21 |
And Jehovahthe Lord the God of Israel deliveredgave Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel and they smotedefeated them:; so Israel possessedtook possession of all the land of the Amorites thewho inhabitantsinhabited of that country |
| 11:22 |
And they possessedtook possession of all the borderterritory of the Amorites from the Arnon evento unto the Jabbok and from the wilderness evento unto the Jordan |
| 11:23 |
So nowthen Jehovahthe Lord the God of Israel hath dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel; and shouldestare thouyou possessto take possession of them |
| 11:24 |
WiltWill you not thou possess thatwhat which Chemosh thyyour god givethgives theeyou to possess SoAnd whomsoeverall Jehovahthat the Lord our God hathhas dispossessed from before us themwe will we possess |
| 11:25 |
AndNow noware artyou thouany anything better than Balak the son of Zippor king of Moab didDid he ever strive against Israel or did he ever fightgo againstto war with them |
| 11:26 |
While Israel dwelt in Heshbon and its townsvillages and in AroerAro′er and its townsvillages and in all the cities that are alongon by the sidebanks of the Arnon three hundred years; whereforewhy did yeyou not recover them within that time |
| 11:27 |
I therefore have not sinned against theeyou butand thouyou doestdo me wrong toby making war againston me:; Jehovahthe Lord the Judge bedecide judge this day between the childrenpeople of Israel and the childrenpeople of Ammon |
| 11:28 |
HowbeitBut the king of the childrenAmmonites ofdid Ammon hearkened not untoheed the wordsmessage of Jephthah which he sent to him |
| 11:29 |
Then the Spirit of Jehovahthe Lord came upon Jephthah and he passed overthrough Gilead and ManassehManas′seh and passed overon Mizpehto Mizpah of Gilead and from MizpehMizpah of Gilead he passed overon untoto the childrenAmmonites of Ammon |
| 11:30 |
And Jephthah vowedmade a vow untoto Jehovahthe Lord and said If thou wilt indeedgive deliver the childrenAmmonites of Ammon into my hand |
| 11:31 |
then itwhoever shallcomes be that whatsoever cometh forth from the doors of my house to meet me when I return invictorious peace from the childrenAmmonites of Ammon it shall be Jehovahsthe Lords and I will offer ithim up for a burnt offering |
| 11:32 |
So Jephthah passedcrossed over untoto the childrenAmmonites of Ammon to fight against them; and Jehovahthe deliveredLord gave them into his hand |
| 11:33 |
And he smote them from AroerAro′er untilto thouthe comeneighborhood toof Minnith even twenty cities and untoas far as Abel cheramimkeramim with a very great slaughter So the childrenAmmonites of Ammon were subdued before the childrenpeople of Israel |
| 11:34 |
AndThen Jephthah came to Mizpahhis untohome hisat houseMizpah; and behold his daughter came out to meet him with timbrels and with dances:; and she was his only child; besidesbeside her he had neither son nor daughter |
| 11:35 |
And it came to pass when he saw her that he rent his clothes and said Alas my daughter thouyou hasthave brought me very low and thouyou arthave onebecome the cause of themgreat that trouble to me; for I have opened my mouth untoto Jehovahthe Lord and I cannot gotake back my vow |
| 11:36 |
And she said untoto him My father thouif hastyou have opened thyyour mouth untoto Jehovah;the Lord do untoto me according to thatwhat whichhas hathgone proceededforth outfrom ofyour thy mouth forasmuchnow asthat Jehovahthe hathLord takenhas vengeanceavenged foryou thee on thineyour enemies even on the childrenAmmonites of Ammon |
| 11:37 |
And she said untoto her father Let this thing be done for me:; let me alone two months that I may departgo and gowander downon upon the mountains and bewail my virginity I and my companions |
| 11:38 |
And he said Go And he sent her away for two months:; and she departed she and her companions and bewailed her virginity upon the mountains |
| 11:39 |
And it came to pass at the end of two months that she returned untoto her father who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed:made andShe shehad knewnever notknown a man And it wasbecame a custom in Israel |
| 11:40 |
that the daughters of Israel went yearlyyear by year to celebratelament the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in athe year |
| 12:1 |
AndThe the men of EphraimE′phraim were gatheredcalled togetherto arms and passedthey northward;crossed to Zaphon and they said untoto Jephthah WhereforeWhy passedstdid thouyou cross over to fight against the childrenAmmonites of Ammon and didstdid not call us to go with theeyou weWe will burn thyyour house uponover theeyou with fire |
| 12:2 |
And Jephthah said untoto them I and my people werehad ata great strifefeud with the children of AmmonAmmonites; and when I called you yeyou saveddid me not outdeliver ofme from their hand |
| 12:3 |
And when I saw that yeyou savedwould not deliver me not I puttook my life in my hand and passedcrossed over against the childrenAmmonites ofand Ammonthe andLord Jehovahgave delivered them into my hand:; whereforewhy then arehave yeyou come up untoto me this day to fight against me |
| 12:4 |
Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead and fought with EphraimE′phraim; and the men of Gilead smote EphraimE′phraim because they said YeYou are fugitives of EphraimE′phraim yeyou Gileadites in the midst of EphraimE′phraim and inManas′seh the midst of Manasseh |
| 12:5 |
And the Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the EphraimitesE′phraimites And it was so that when any of the fugitives of EphraimE′phraim said Let me go over the men of Gilead said untoto him ArtAre thouyou an EphraimiteE′phraimite IfWhen he said Nay;No |
| 12:6 |
thenthey said theyto unto him SayThen nowsay Shibboleth; and he said Sibboleth; for he could not frame to pronounce it right:; then they laidseized hold on him and slew him at the fords of the Jordan And there fell at that time offorty Ephraimtwo fortythousand andof twothe thousandE′phraimites |
| 12:7 |
And Jephthah judged Israel six years Then died Jephthah the Gileadite died and was buried in onehis ofcity thein cities of Gilead |
| 12:8 |
AndAfter after him Ibzan of BethBethlehem lehem judged Israel |
| 12:9 |
AndHe he had thirty sons; and thirty daughters he sentgave abroadin marriage outside his clan and thirty daughters he brought in from abroadoutside for his sons And he judged Israel seven years |
| 12:10 |
AndThen Ibzan died and was buried at Beth lehem Bethlehem |
| 12:11 |
AndAfter after him Elon the ZebuluniteZeb′ulunite judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years |
| 12:12 |
AndThen Elon the ZebuluniteZeb′ulunite died and was buried inat AijalonAi′jalon in the land of ZebulunZeb′ulun |
| 12:13 |
AndAfter after him Abdon the son of Hillel the PirathonitePir′athonite judged Israel |
| 12:14 |
AndHe he had forty sons and thirty sonsgrandsons sonswho that rode on threescoreseventy andasses; ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years |
| 12:15 |
AndThen Abdon the son of Hillel the PirathonitePir′athonite died and was buried inat PirathonPir′athon in the land of EphraimE′phraim in the hill country of the AmalekitesAmal′ekites |
| 13:1 |
And the childrenpeople of Israel again did thatwhat which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord; and Jehovahthe deliveredLord gave them into the hand of the Philistines for forty years |
| 13:2 |
And there was a certain man of Zorah of the familytribe of the Danites whose name was ManoahMano′ah; and his wife was barren and barehad notno children |
| 13:3 |
And the angel of Jehovahthe Lord appeared untoto the woman and said untoto her Behold nowyou thouare art barren and bearesthave notno children; but thouyou shaltshall conceive and bear a son |
| 13:4 |
NowTherefore therefore beware I pray thee and drink no wine noror strong drink and eat notnothing any unclean thing: |
| 13:5 |
for lo thouyou shaltshall conceive and bear a son; andNo no razor shall come upon his head; for the childboy shall be a Nazirite untoto God from thebirth; womb: and he shall begin to savedeliver Israel outfrom of the hand of the Philistines |
| 13:6 |
Then the woman came and told her husband saying A man of God came untoto me and his countenance was like the countenance of the angel of God very terrible; and I askeddid not ask him not whence he was neitherand told he did not tell me his name:; |
| 13:7 |
but he said untoto me Behold thouyou shaltshall conceive and bear a son; andso nowthen drink no wine noror strong drink and eat notnothing any unclean thing; for the childboy shall be a Nazirite untoto God from thebirth womb to the day of his death |
| 13:8 |
Then ManoahMano′ah entreated Jehovahthe Lord and said OhO Lord I pray thee let the man of God whom thou didst send come again untoto us and teach us what we shallare to do untowith the childboy that shallwill be born |
| 13:9 |
And God hearkenedlistened to the voice of Manoah;Mano′ah and the angel of God came again untoto the woman as she sat in the field:; but ManoahMano′ah her husband was not with her |
| 13:10 |
And the woman maderan in haste and ran and told her husband and said unto him Behold the man hathwho appeared unto me that came untoto me the other day has appeared to me |
| 13:11 |
And ManoahMano′ah arose and went after his wife and came to the man and said untoto him ArtAre thouyou the man thatwho spakestspoke untoto thethis woman And he said I am |
| 13:12 |
And ManoahMano′ah said Now letwhen thyyour words come totrue pass: what shallis to be the orderingboys manner of thelife child and howwhat shallis wehe to do unto him |
| 13:13 |
And the angel of Jehovahthe Lord said untoto ManoahMano′ah Of all that I said untoto the woman let her beware |
| 13:14 |
She may not eat of anything that comethcomes offrom the vine neither let her drink wine or strong drink noror eat any unclean thing; all that I commanded her let her observe |
| 13:15 |
AndMano′ah Manoah said untoto the angel of Jehovahthe ILord prayPray thee let us detain theeyou thatand weprepare may make ready a kid for theeyou |
| 13:16 |
And the angel of Jehovahthe Lord said untoto ManoahMano′ah ThoughIf thouyou detain me I will not eat of thyyour breadfood; andbut if thouyou wilt make ready a burnt offering thouthen must offer it untoto Jehovahthe Lord For ManoahMano′ah knewdid not know that he was the angel of Jehovahthe Lord |
| 13:17 |
And ManoahMano′ah said untoto the angel of Jehovahthe Lord What is thyyour name so that when thyyour words come totrue pass we may dohonor theeyou honor |
| 13:18 |
And the angel of Jehovahthe Lord said untoto him WhereforeWhy askestdo thouyou afterask my name seeing it is wonderful |
| 13:19 |
So ManoahMano′ah took the kid with the mealcereal offering and offered it upon the rock untoto Jehovah: and the angelLord didto wondrouslyhim andwho Manoahworks andwonders his wife looked on |
| 13:20 |
ForAnd it came to pass when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar that the angel of Jehovahthe Lord ascended in the flame of the altar: andwhile ManoahMano′ah and his wife looked on; and they fell on their faces to the ground |
| 13:21 |
ButThe the angel of Jehovahthe didLord appeared no more appear to ManoahMano′ah orand to his wife Then ManoahMano′ah knew that he was the angel of Jehovahthe Lord |
| 13:22 |
And ManoahMano′ah said untoto his wife We shall surely die becausefor we have seen God |
| 13:23 |
But his wife said untoto him If Jehovahthe wereLord pleasedhad meant to kill us he would not have receivedaccepted a burnt offering and a mealcereal offering at our handhands neitheror wouldshown he have showed us all these things noror wouldnow atannounced thisto timeus have told such things as these |
| 13:24 |
And the woman barebore a son and called his name Samson:; and the childboy grew and Jehovahthe Lord blessed him |
| 13:25 |
And the Spirit of Jehovahthe Lord began to movestir him in MahanehMa′haneh dan between Zorah and EshtaolEsh′ta ol |
| 14:1 |
And Samson went down to Timnah and sawat aTimnah womanhe insaw Timnahone of the daughters of the Philistines |
| 14:2 |
AndThen he came up and told his father and his mother and said I havesaw seenone a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines: at Timnah; now therefore get her for me toas my wife |
| 14:3 |
ThenBut his father and his mother said untoto him Is there nevernot a woman among the daughters of thyyour brethrenkinsmen or among all myour people that thouyou goestmust go to take a wife offrom the uncircumcised Philistines AndBut Samson said untoto his father Get her for me; for she pleasethpleases me well |
| 14:4 |
ButHis his father and his mother knewdid not know that it was offrom Jehovahthe Lord; for he soughtwas seeking an occasion against the Philistines NowAt at that time the Philistines had ruledominion over Israel |
| 14:5 |
Then Samson went Samson down andwith his father and his mother to Timnah and he came to the vineyards of Timnah: andAnd behold a young lion roared against him; |
| 14:6 |
Andand the Spirit of Jehovahthe Lord came mightily upon him and he renttore himthe aslion heasunder wouldas haveone renttears a kid; and he had nothing in his hand: butBut he tolddid not tell his father or his mother what he had done |
| 14:7 |
AndThen he went down and talked with the woman; and she pleased Samson well |
| 14:8 |
And after a while he returned to take her; and he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion: and behold there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion and honey |
| 14:9 |
AndHe hescraped took it out into his hands and went on eating as he went; and he came to his father and mother and gave untosome to them and they didate eat:But but he tolddid not tell them not that he had taken the honey outfrom of the bodycarcass of the lion |
| 14:10 |
And his father went down untoto the woman: and Samson made there a feast there; for so used the young men used to do |
| 14:11 |
And itwhen camethe topeople pass when they saw him that they brought thirty companions to be with him |
| 14:12 |
And Samson said untoto them Let me now put forth a riddle untoto you:; if yeyou can declaretell me what it untois me within the seven days of the feast and find it out then I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty changesfestal of raimentgarments; |
| 14:13 |
but if yeyou cannot declaretell me what it untois me then you shall ye give me thirty linen garments and thirty changesfestal ofgarments raiment And they said untoto him Put forthyour thy riddle that we may hear it |
| 14:14 |
And he said untoto them Out of the eater came forthsomething foodto Andeat outOut of the strong came forthsomething sweetnesssweet And they could not in three days declaretell what the riddle was |
| 14:15 |
AndOn it came to pass on the seventhfourth day that they said untoto Samsons wife Entice thyyour husband thatto hetell mayus declarewhat unto us the riddle is lest we burn theeyou and thyyour fathers house with fire: haveHave yeyou calledinvited us here to impoverish us is it not so |
| 14:16 |
And Samsons wife wept before him and said ThouYou dostonly but hate me andyou lovestdo not love me; not:you thouhave hast put forth a riddle untoto the children of my peoplecountrymen and hastyou have not told me what it meis And he said untoto her Behold I have not told it my father nor my mother and shall I tell theeyou |
| 14:17 |
AndShe she wept before him the seven days whilethat their feast lasted:; and it came to pass on the seventh day that he told her because she pressed him sore;hard andThen she told the riddle to the children of her peoplecountrymen |
| 14:18 |
And the men of the city said untoto him on the seventh day before the sun went down What is sweeter than honey andWhat what is stronger than a lion And he said untoto them If yeyou had not plowed with my heifer Yeyou hadwould not have found out my riddle |
| 14:19 |
And the Spirit of Jehovahthe Lord came mightily upon him and he went down to AshkelonAsh′kelon and smotekilled thirty men of themthe town and took their spoil and gave the changesfestal ofgarments raimentto untothose themwho thathad declaredtold the riddle AndIn hishot anger was kindled and he went upback to his fathers house |
| 14:20 |
ButAnd Samsons wife was given to his companion whomwho he had usedbeen as his friendbest man |
| 15:1 |
ButAfter it came to pass after a while inat the time of wheat harvest that Samson visitedwent to visit his wife with a kid; and he said I will go in to my wife intoin the chamber But her father would not sufferallow him to go in |
| 15:2 |
And her father said I verilyreally thought that thouyou hadst utterly hated her; thereforeso I gave her to thyyour companion: isIs not her younger sister fairer than she Pray take her I pray thee instead of her |
| 15:3 |
And Samson said untoto them This time I shall I be blameless in regard ofto the Philistines when I do them a mischief |
| 15:4 |
AndSo Samson went and caught three hundred foxes and took firebrandstorches; and he turned them tail to tail and put a firebrandtorch inbetween theeach midstpair betweenof every two tails |
| 15:5 |
And when he had set thefire brandsto onthe firetorches he let themthe foxes go into the standing grain of the Philistines and burntburned up both the shocks and the standing grain andas alsowell as the oliveyardsolive orchards |
| 15:6 |

AndThey theysaid spaketo unto him saying No; but we will only bind theeyou fast and delivergive theeyou into their hand:hands; but surely we will not kill theeyou AndSo they bound him with two new ropes and brought him up from the rock |
| 15:14 |
When he came untoto Lehi the Philistines shoutedcame asshouting theyto metmeet him:; and the Spirit of Jehovahthe Lord came mightily upon him and the ropes thatwhich were uponon his arms became as flax that washas burntcaught with fire and his bandsbonds droppedmelted from off his hands |

AndWhen it came to pass when he had madefinished an end of speaking that he castthrew away the jawbone out of his hand; and that place was called RamathRa′math lehi le′hi |

And he was sorevery athirstthirsty and he called on Jehovahthe Lord and said Thou hast givengranted this great deliverance by the hand of thy servant; and now shall I now die forof thirst and fall into the handhands of the uncircumcised |
| 15:19 |
ButAnd God clavesplit open the hollow place that is inat Lehi and there came water thereoutfrom it; and when he haddrank drunk his spirit camereturned again and he revived: whereforeTherefore the name thereofof it was called En hakkorehakkor′e; whichit is inat Lehi untoto this day |
| 16:1 |
And Samson went to Gaza and there he saw there a harlot and he went in untoto her |

And the lords of the Philistines came upto unto her and said untoto her Entice him and see wherein his great strength liethlies and by what means we may prevailoverpower against him that we may bind him to afflictsubdue him:; and we will each give theeyou every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver |

And DelilahDeli′lah said to Samson TellPlease tell me I pray thee wherein thyyour great strength liethlies and wherewithhow thouyou mightestmight be bound tothat afflictone theecould subdue you |
| 16:7 |
And Samson said untoto her If they bind me with seven greenfresh withesbowstrings thatwhich werehave nevernot been dried then I shall I become weak and be aslike anotherany other man |
| 16:8 |
Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven greenfresh withesbowstrings which had not been dried and she bound him with them |
| 16:9 |
Now she had liersmen lying in wait abiding in thean inner chamber And she said untoto him The Philistines are upon theeyou Samson AndBut he brakesnapped the withesbowstrings as a string of tow issnaps broken when it touchethtouches the fire So the secret of his strength was not known |
| 16:10 |
And DelilahDeli′lah said untoto Samson Behold thouyou hasthave mocked me and told me lies:; nowplease tell me Ihow prayyou theemight wherewith thou mightest be bound |
| 16:11 |
And he said untoto her If they only bind me with new ropes wherewiththat nohave worknot hath been doneused then I shall I become weak and be aslike anotherany other man |

So DelilahDeli′lah took new ropes and bound him therewithwith them and said untoto him The Philistines are upon theeyou Samson And the liersmen lying in wait were abiding in thean inner chamber AndBut he brakesnapped themthe ropes off his arms like a thread |
| 16:13 |
And DelilahDeli′lah said untoto Samson HithertoUntil thounow hastyou have mocked me and told me lies:; tell me wherewithhow thouyou mightestmight be bound And he said untoto her If thouyou weavestweave the seven locks of my head with the web and make it tight with the pin then I shall become weak and be like any other man |
| 16:14 |
So while he slept Deli′lah took the seven locks of his head and wove them into the web And she fastenedmade itthem tight with the pin and said untoto him The Philistines are upon theeyou Samson AndBut he awakedawoke outfrom of his sleep and pluckedpulled away the pin of the beamloom and the web |
| 16:15 |
And she said untoto him How canstcan thouyou say I love theeyou when thyyour heart is not with me thouYou hasthave mocked me these three times and hastyou have not told me wherein thyyour great strength liethlies |
| 16:16 |
And it came to pass when she pressed him dailyhard with her words day after day and urged him that his soul was vexed untoto death |
| 16:17 |
And he told her all his heartmind and said untoto her ThereA hathrazor nothas never come a razor upon my head; for I have been a Nazirite untoto God from my mothers womb: ifIf I be shavenshaved then my strength will goleave from me and I shall become weak and be like any other man |
| 16:18 |
AndWhen whenDeli′lah Delilah saw that he had told her all his heartmind she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines saying Come up this once for he hathhas told me all his heartmind Then the lords of the Philistines came up untoto her and brought the money in their handhands |
| 16:19 |
AndShe she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man and shavedhad him shave off the seven locks of his head; andThen she began to afflicttorment him and his strength wentleft from him |
| 16:20 |
And she said The Philistines are upon theeyou Samson And he awoke outfrom of his sleep and said I will go out as at other times and shake myself free ButAnd he knewdid not know that Jehovahthe wasLord departedhad fromleft him |
| 16:21 |
And the Philistines laidseized hold on him and putgouged out his eyes; and they brought him down to Gaza and bound him with bronze fetters of brass; and he didground grindat the mill in the prison house |
| 16:22 |
HowbeitBut the hair of his head began to grow again after heit washad shavenbeen shaved |
| 16:23 |
AndNow the lords of the Philistines gathered them together to offer a great sacrifice untoto Dagon their god and to rejoice; for they said Our god hathhas deliveredgiven Samson our enemy into our hand |
| 16:24 |
And when the people saw him they praised their god; for they said Our god hathhas deliveredgiven our enemy into our hand our enemy and the destroyerravager of our country who hathhas slain many of us |

| 16:26 |
and Samson said untoto the lad thatwho held him by the hand SufferLet me that I may feel the pillars whereuponon which the house restethrests that I may lean uponagainst them |
| 16:27 |
Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and thereon were upon the roof there were about three thousand men and women thatwho beheldlooked on while Samson made sport |
| 16:28 |
AndThen Samson called untoto Jehovahthe Lord and said O Lord JehovahGod remember me I pray thee and strengthen me I pray thee only this once O God that I may be at once avenged ofupon the Philistines for one of my two eyes |
| 16:29 |
And Samson tookgrasped hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house rested and he leaned his weight upon them his right hand on the one withand his rightleft hand andon the other with his left |
| 16:30 |
And Samson said Let me die with the Philistines AndThen he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords and upon all the people that were thereinin it So the dead thatwhom he slew at his death were more than theythose thatwhom he slewhad inslain during his life |
| 16:31 |
Then his brethrenbrothers and all the house of his fatherfamily came down and took him and brought him up and buried him between Zorah and EshtaolEsh′ta ol in the buryingtomb place of ManoahMano′ah his father AndHe hehad judged Israel twenty years |

| 17:12 |
And Micah consecratedinstalled the Levite and the young man became his priest and was in the house of Micah |

And they said untoto him AskInquire counselof God we pray thee of God that we may know whether ourthe wayjourney on which we goare shallsetting beout prosperouswill succeed |
| 18:6 |
And the priest said untoto them Go in peace: beforeThe Jehovahjourney on which you go is yourunder waythe whereineye yeof gothe Lord |
| 18:7 |
Then the five men departed and came to LaishLa′ish and saw the people thatwho were thereinthere how they dwelt in security after the manner of the SidoniansSido′nians quiet and secure;unsuspecting forlacking therenothing wasthat noneis in the landearth and possessing authoritywealth thatand mighthow put them to shame in anything and they were far from the SidoniansSido′nians and had no dealings with any manone |

| 18:11 |
And theresix sethundred forthmen from thence of the familytribe of theDan Danitesarmed outwith ofweapons Zorah and out of Eshtaolwar sixset hundredforth menfrom girtZorah withand weaponsEsh′ta ofol war |
| 18:12 |
Andand they went up and encamped inat KiriathKir′iath jearimje′arim in Judah: whereforeOn theythis calledaccount that place Mahanehis called Ma′haneh dan untoto this day; behold it is behindwest Kiriathof jearimKir′iath je′arim |
| 18:13 |
And they passed thenceon untofrom there to the hill country of EphraimE′phraim and came untoto the house of Micah |
| 18:14 |
Then answered the five men thatwho wenthad gone to spy out the country of LaishLa′ish and said untoto their brethren Do yeyou know that there is in these houses there are an ephod and teraphim and a graven image and a molten image nowNow therefore consider what yeyou havewill to do |

Andand the five men thatwho wenthad gone to spy out the land went up and cameentered in thither and took the graven image and the ephod and the teraphim and the molten image: andwhile the priest stood by the entrance of the gate with the six hundred men girtarmed with weapons of war |
| 18:18 |
And when these went into Micahs house and fetchedtook the graven image the ephod and the teraphim and the molten image the priest said untoto them What doare yeyou doing |
| 18:19 |
And they said untoto him HoldKeep thyquiet peaceput layyour thy hand upon thyyour mouth and gocome with us and be to us a father and a priest: isIs it better for theeyou to be priest untoto the house of one man or to be priest untoto a tribe and a family in Israel |
| 18:20 |
And the priests heart was glad; and he took the ephod and the teraphim and the graven image and went in the midst of the people |
| 18:21 |
So they turned and departed andputting put the little ones and the cattle and the goods beforein front of them |
| 18:22 |
When they were a good way from the househome of Micah the men thatwho were in the houses near to Micahs house were gatheredcalled togetherout and they overtook the childrenDanites of Dan |

And they criedshouted untoto the childrenDanites ofwho Dan And they turned theirround faces and said untoto Micah What ailethails theeyou that thouyou comestcome with such a company |
| 18:24 |
And he said yeYou havetake taken away my gods which I made and the priest and arego gone away and what have I moreleft andHow how then saydo yeyou untoask me What ailethails theeyou |
| 18:25 |
And the childrenDanites of Dan said untoto him LetDo not thylet your voice be heard among us lest angry fellows fall upon you and thouyou lose thyyour life with the lives of thyyour household |
| 18:26 |
AndThen the childrenDanites of Dan went their way:; and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him he turned and went back untoto his househome |
| 18:27 |
And theytaking tookwhat that which Micah had made and the priest whomwho hebelonged hadto andhim the Danites came untoto LaishLa′ish untoto a people quiet and secureunsuspecting and smote them with the edge of the sword; and theyburned burnt the city with fire |

And there was no deliverer because it was far from Sidon and they had no dealings with any man;one andIt it was in the valley thatwhich liethbelongs byto Beth rehob And they builtrebuilt the city and dwelt thereinin it |
| 18:29 |
And they callednamed the name of the city Dan after the name of Dan their fatherancestor who was born untoto Israel:; howbeitbut the name of the city was LaishLa′ish at the first |
| 18:30 |
And the childrenDanites of Dan set up for themselves the graven image for themselves; and Jonathan the son of Gershom the son of Moses he and his sons were priests to the tribe of the Danites until the day of the captivity of the land |

| 19:1 |

| 19:6 |
So theythe two men sat down and didate eat and drinkdrank both of them together:; and the damselsgirls father said untoto the man Be pleased I pray thee to tarryspend allthe night and let thyyour heart be merry |
| 19:7 |
And when the man rose up to depart;go but his father in law urged him andtill he lodged there again |

| 19:10 |
But the man would not tarryspend thatthe night; but he rose up and departed and camearrived overopposite against Jebus thethat same is Jerusalem: andHe therehad were with him a couple of saddled asses saddled;and his concubine also was with him |
| 19:11 |
When they were bynear Jebus the day was far spent; and the servant said untoto his master Come Inow pray thee and let us turn aside intoto this city of the JebusitesJeb′usites and lodgespend the night in it |
| 19:12 |
And his master said untoto him We will not turn aside into the city of aforeigners foreignerwho thatdo is not ofbelong to the childrenpeople of Israel; but we will pass overon to GibeahGib′e ah |
| 19:13 |
And he said untoto his servant Come and let us draw near to one of these places; and wespend willthe lodgenight inat GibeahGib′e ah or inat Ramah |
| 19:14 |
So they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down uponon them near toGib′e Gibeahah which belongethbelongs to Benjamin |
| 19:15 |
Andand they turned aside thitherthere to go in toand lodgespend inthe Gibeah:night andat Gib′e ah And he went in and sat him down in the streetopen square of the city; for there was no man that took them into his house to lodgespend the night |
| 19:16 |
And behold there came an old man was coming from his work outin of the field at even:evening; now the man was offrom the hill country of EphraimE′phraim and he sojournedwas sojourning in GibeahGib′e ah; but the men of the place were BenjamitesBenjaminites |
| 19:17 |
And he lifted up his eyes and saw the wayfaringwayfarer man in the streetopen square of the city; and the old man said WhitherWhere goestare thouyou going and whence comestdo thouyou come |
| 19:18 |
And he said untoto him We are passing from BethBethlehem lehemin judahJudah untoto the fartherremote sideparts of the hill country of Ephraim;E′phraim from thencewhich am I andcome I went to BethBethlehem lehemin judah:Judah; and I am now going to themy house of Jehovahhome; and therenobody istakes no man that taketh me into his house |
| 19:19 |
YetWe therehave is both straw and provender for our asses; andwith there is bread and wine also for me and foryour thymaidservant handmaid and for the young man that is with thyyour servants:; there is no wantlack of anything |
| 19:20 |
And the old man said Peace be untoto theeyou; howsoeverI letwill care for all thyyour wants lie upon me; only lodgedo not spend the night in the streetsquare |
| 19:21 |
So he brought him into his house and gave the asses fodderprovender; and they washed their feet and didate eat and drinkdrank |
| 19:22 |
As they were making their hearts merry behold the men of the city certain base fellows beset the house round about beating aton the door; and they spakesaid to the old man the master of the house the old man saying Bring forthout the man thatwho came into thyyour house that we may know him |
| 19:23 |
And the man the master of the house went out untoto them and said untoto them NayNo my brethren I pray you do not act so wickedly; seeing that this man ishas come into my house do not do this follyvile thing |
| 19:24 |
Behold here isare my virgin daughter a virgin and his concubine; themlet Ime will bring them out now andRavish humble ye them and do with them what seemethseems good untoto you:; but untoagainst this man do not anydo suchso follyvile a thing |
| 19:25 |
But the men would not hearkenlisten to him: soSo the man laidseized hold on his concubine and broughtput her forthout untoto them; and they knew her and abused her all the night until the morning: andAnd whenas the daydawn began to springbreak they let her go |
| 19:26 |
ThenAnd cameas themorning womanappeared in the dawningwoman ofcame the day and fell down at the door of the mans house where her lordmaster was till it was light |
| 19:27 |
And her lordmaster rose up in the morning and when he opened the doors of the house and went out to go on his way; and behold thethere womanwas his concubine waslying fallen down at the door of the house with her hands uponon the threshold |
| 19:28 |
AndHe he said untoto her UpGet andup let us be going; butBut nonethere answered:was thenno answer Then he tookput her up upon the ass; and the man rose up and gatwent himaway untoto his placehome |
| 19:29 |
And when he wasentered come into his house he took a knife and laidlaying hold onof his concubine andhe divided her limb by limb into twelve pieces and sent her throughout all the bordersterritory of Israel |
| 19:30 |
And it was so that all thatwho saw it said ThereSuch wasa nothing suchhas deednever donehappened noror been seen from the day that the childrenpeople of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt untountil this day:; consider it take counsel and speak |
| 20:1 |
Then all the childrenpeople of Israel wentcame out and the congregation was assembled as one man from Dan even to Beer sheba withincluding the land of Gilead untoand Jehovahthe congregation assembled as one man to the Lord at Mizpah |
| 20:2 |
And the chiefs of all the people even of all the tribes of Israel presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God four hundred thousand footmenmen on foot that drew the sword |
| 20:3 |
Now the childrenBenjaminites of Benjamin heard that the childrenpeople of Israel werehad gone up to Mizpah And the childrenpeople of Israel said Tell us how was this wickedness brought to pass |
| 20:4 |
And the Levite the husband of the woman thatwho was murdered answered and said I came intoto GibeahGib′e ah that belongethbelongs to Benjamin I and my concubine to lodgespend the night |
| 20:5 |
And the men of GibeahGib′e ah rose against me and beset the house round about me by night; me they thoughtmeant to havekill slainme and they ravished my concubine they forced and she is dead |
| 20:6 |
And I took my concubine and cut her in pieces and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel; for they have committed lewdnessabomination and follywantonness in Israel |
| 20:7 |
Behold yeyou childrenpeople of Israel all of you give here your advice and counsel here |
| 20:8 |
And all the people arose as one man saying We will not any of us go to his tent neitherand willnone we any of us turnwill untoreturn to his house |
| 20:9 |
But now this is thewhat thing which we will do to GibeahGib′e ah: we will go up against it by lot; |
| 20:10 |
and we will take ten men of a hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel and a hundred of a thousand and a thousand out of ten thousand to fetchbring victualsprovisions for the people that when they maycome dothey whenmay theyrequite comeGib′e toah Gibeah of Benjamin accordingfor to all the follywanton thatcrime which they have wroughtcommitted in Israel |
| 20:11 |
So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city knitunited together as one man |
| 20:12 |
And the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin saying What wickedness is this that ishas cometaken toplace pass among you |
| 20:13 |
Now therefore delivergive up the men the base fellows thatin areGib′e inah Gibeah that we may put them to death and put away evil from Israel But Benjaminthe Benjaminites would not hearkenlisten to the voice of their brethren the childrenpeople of Israel |
| 20:14 |
And the childrenBenjaminites ofcame Benjamin gathered themselves together out of the cities untoto GibeahGib′e ah to go out to battle against the childrenpeople of Israel |
| 20:15 |
And the childrenBenjaminites mustered out of Benjamintheir werecities numbered on that day out of the cities twenty and six thousand men that drew the sword besides the inhabitants of GibeahGib′e ah who weremustered numbered seven hundred chosenpicked men |
| 20:16 |
