| 1:1 |
Paul an apostle —not from men neithernor through man but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised him from the dead— |
| 1:2 |
and all the brethren thatwho are with me untoTo the churches of Galatia: |
| 1:4 |
who gave himself for our sins thatto he might deliver us outfrom ofthe this present evil worldage according to the will of our God and Father:; |
| 1:6 |
I marvelam astonished that yeyou are so quickly removingdeserting from him thatwho called you in the grace of Christ untoand turning to a different gospel;— |
| 1:7 |
whichnot that there is not another gospel: onlybut there are some thatwho trouble you and wouldwant to pervert the gospel of Christ |
| 1:8 |
But thougheven if we or an angel from heaven should preach untoto you anya gospel othercontrary thanto that which we preached untoto you let him be anathemaaccursed |
| 1:9 |
As we have said before so saynow I nowsay again If any manone preachethis untopreaching to you anya gospel othercontrary thanto that which yeyou received let him be anathema accursed |
| 1:10 |
ForAm am I now seeking the favor of men or of God orOr am I strivingtrying to please men ifIf I were still pleasing men I should not be a servant of Christ |
| 1:11 |
For I makewould knownhave to you know brethren asthat touching the gospel which was preached by me that it is not aftermans mangospel |
| 1:12 |
For neitherI did Inot receive it from man nor was I taught it but it came tothrough mea through revelation of Jesus Christ |
| 1:13 |
For yeyou have heard of my mannerformer of life in timeJudaism past in the Jews religion how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God violently and madetried havocto ofdestroy it:; |
| 1:14 |
and I advanced in theJudaism Jews religion beyond many of minemy own age among my countrymenpeople beingso moreextremely exceedingly zealous was I for the traditions of my fathers |
| 1:15 |
But when ithe waswho thehad goodset pleasure of God who separated me evenapart frombefore myI motherswas wombborn and had called me through his grace |
| 1:16 |
was pleased to reveal his Son into me in order that I might preach him among the Gentiles; straightway I conferreddid not confer with flesh and blood: |
| 1:17 |
neithernor wentdid I go up to Jerusalem to themthose thatwho were apostles before me: but I went away into Arabia; and again I returned untoto Damascus |
| 1:18 |
Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas and tarriedremained with him fifteen days |
| 1:19 |
But otherI saw none of the other apostles sawexcept I none save James the Lords brother |
| 1:20 |
NowIn touchingwhat theI thingsam whichwriting Ito write unto you behold before God I liedo not lie |
| 1:21 |
Then I camewent into the regions of Syria and CiliciaCili′cia |
| 1:22 |
And I was still unknownnot known by facesight untoto the churches of JudaeaChrist which were in Christ:Judea; |
| 1:23 |
but they only heard sayit said He thatwho once persecuted us is now preachethpreaching the faith of which he once madetried havoc;to destroy |
| 1:24 |
andAnd they glorified God inbecause of me |
| 2:1 |
Then after the space of fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas taking Titus alsoalong with me |
| 2:2 |
And I went up by revelation; and I laid before them but privately before those who were of repute the gospel which I preach among the Gentiles but privately before them who were of repute lest bysomehow any means I should be running or had run in vain |
| 2:3 |
But not even Titus who was with me beingwas anot Greek was compelled to be circumcised: though he was a Greek |
| 2:4 |
andBut that because of the false brethren privilysecretly brought in who cameslipped in privily to spy out our libertyfreedom which we have in Christ Jesus that they might bring us into bondage:— |
| 2:5 |
to whomthem we gavedid placenot inyield thesubmission wayeven of subjection no not for ana hour;moment that the truth of the gospel might continuebe withpreserved for you |
| 2:6 |
ButAnd from those who were reputed to be somewhatsomething whatsoeverwhat they were itmakes maketh no matterdifference to me:; God acceptethshows notno mans personpartiality—theythose I say who were of repute impartedadded nothing to me:; |
| 2:7 |
but contrariwiseon the contrary when they saw that I had been intrustedentrusted with the gospel ofto the uncircumcisionuncircumcised evenjust as Peter had been entrusted with the gospel ofto the circumcisioncircumcised |
| 2:8 |
for he thatwho wroughtworked forthrough Peter untofor the apostleshipmission ofto the circumcisioncircumcised wroughtworked forthrough me also untofor the Gentiles; |
| 2:9 |
and when they perceived the grace that was given untoto me James and Cephas and John they who were reputed to be pillars gave to me and Barnabas the right handshand of fellowship that we should go untoto the Gentiles and they untoto the circumcisioncircumcised; |
| 2:10 |
only they would thathave weus should remember the poor; which very thing I was alsoeager zealous to do |
| 2:11 |
But when Cephas came to Antioch I resistedopposed him to thehis face because he stood condemned |
| 2:12 |
For before that certain men came from James he ate with the Gentiles; but when they came he drew back and separated himself fearing them that were of the circumcision party |
| 2:13 |
And with him the rest of the Jews dissembledacted likewiseinsincerely withso him; insomuch that even Barnabas was carried away withby their dissimulationinsincerity |
| 2:14 |
But when I saw that they walkedwere not uprightlystraightforward accordingabout to the truth of the gospel I said untoto Cephas before them all If thouyou beingthough a Jew livestlive aslike doa theGentile Gentiles and not aslike doa theJew Jews how compellestcan thouyou compel the Gentiles to live aslike do the Jews |
| 2:15 |
We beingourselves who are Jews by naturebirth and not Gentile sinners of the Gentiles |
| 2:16 |
yet knowingwho know that a man is not justified by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ even we have believed onin Christ Jesus thatin weorder mightto be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law: because by the works of the law shall no fleshone be justified |
| 2:17 |
But if whilein weour soughtendeavor to be justified in Christ we ourselves also were found to be sinners is Christ athen ministeran agent of sin GodCertainly forbidnot |
| 2:18 |
ForBut if I build up again those things which I destroyedtore down then I prove myself a transgressor |
| 2:19 |
For I through the law died untoto the law that I might live untoto God |
| 2:20 |
I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I thatwho live but Christ livethwho lives in me:; and thatthe life which I now live in the flesh I live inby faith the faith which is in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself up for me |
| 2:21 |
I do not makenullify void the grace of God:; for if righteousnessjustification iswere through the law then Christ died forto noughtno purpose |
| 3:1 |
O foolish Galatians whoWho didhas bewitchbewitched you before whose eyes Jesus Christ was openlypublicly setportrayed forthas crucified |
| 3:2 |
ThisLet onlyme wouldask Iyou learnonly fromthis: Did you Receivedreceive ye the Spirit by the works of the law or by the hearing ofwith faith |
| 3:3 |
Are yeyou so foolish havingHaving begun inwith the Spirit are yeyou now perfectedending inwith the flesh |
| 3:4 |
Did yeyou sufferexperience so many things in vain —if it bereally indeedis in vain |
| 3:5 |
HeDoes thereforehe thatwho suppliethsupplies the Spirit to you the Spirit and workethworks miracles among you doethdo heso it by the works of the law or by the hearing ofwith faith |
| 3:6 |
EvenThus as Abraham believed God and it was reckoned untoto him foras righteousness |
| 3:7 |
KnowSo thereforeyou see that theyit thatis aremen of faith thewho same are the sons of Abraham |
| 3:8 |
And the scripture foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith preached the gospel beforehand untoto Abraham saying In theeyou shall all the nations be blessed |
| 3:9 |
So then theythose thatwho are men of faith are blessed with theAbraham faithfulwho Abrahamhad faith |
| 3:10 |
For asall manywho asrely areon of the works of the law are under a curse:; for it is written Cursed isbe every one who continuethdoes not inabide by all things that are written in the book of the law toand do them |
| 3:11 |
Now it is evident that no man is justified before God by the law; beforefor GodHe iswho evident:through forfaith Theis righteous shall live by faith; |
| 3:12 |
andbut the law isdoes not ofrest on faith; butfor He thatwho doethdoes them shall live inby them |
| 3:13 |
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law having become a curse for us; —for it is written Cursed isbe every one thatwho hangethhangs on a tree:— |
| 3:14 |
that uponin theChrist GentilesJesus might come the blessing of Abraham inmight Christcome Jesus;upon the Gentiles that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith |
| 3:15 |
BrethrenTo Igive speaka afterhuman theexample manner of menbrethren: Thoughno itone beannuls buteven a mans covenantwill yetor whenadds to it hathonce been confirmed no one maketh it voidhas orbeen addethratified thereto |
| 3:16 |
Now tothe Abrahampromises were themade promisesto spokenAbraham and to his seedoffspring HeIt saithdoes not say And to seedsoffsprings asreferring ofto many; but asreferring ofto one And to thyyour seedoffspring which is Christ |
| 3:17 |
NowThis thisis what I saymean: A covenant confirmed beforehand by God the law which came four hundred and thirty years afterafterward dothdoes not disannulannul a covenant previously ratified by God so as to make the promise ofvoid none effect |
| 3:18 |
For if the inheritance is ofby the law it is no morelonger ofby promise:; but God hathgave granted it to Abraham by a promise |
| 3:19 |
WhatWhy then is the law It was added because of transgressions till the seedoffspring should come to whom the promise hathhad been made; and it was ordained throughby angels bythrough thean handintermediary of a mediator |
| 3:20 |
Now aan mediatorintermediary isimplies notmore athan mediator of one; but God is one |
| 3:21 |
Is the law then against the promises of God GodCertainly forbid:not; for if therea law had been a law given which could make alive verilythen righteousness would haveindeed beenbe ofby the law |
| 3:22 |
But the scripture shutconsigned up all things underto sin that thewhat promisewas bypromised to faith in Jesus Christ might be given to themthose thatwho believe |
| 3:23 |
ButNow before faith came we were keptconfined in ward under the law shutkept upunder untorestraint theuntil faith which should afterwards be revealed |
| 3:24 |
So that the law iswas become our tutorcustodian tountil bringChrist uscame unto Christ that we might be justified by faith |
| 3:25 |
But now that faith ishas come we are no longer under a tutorcustodian; |
| 3:26 |
Forfor yein Christ Jesus you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus |
| 3:27 |
For as many of you as were baptized into Christ didhave put on Christ |
| 3:28 |
There canis be neither Jew nor Greek there canis be neither bondslave nor free there canis beneither no male andnor female; for yeyou are all are one man in Christ Jesus |
| 3:29 |
And if yeyou are Christs then you are ye Abrahams seedoffspring heirs according to promise |
| 4:1 |
But I saymean that sothe heir as long as thehe heir is a child heis differethno nothingbetter fromthan a bondservantslave though he is lordthe owner of all the estate; |
| 4:2 |
but he is under guardians and stewardstrustees until the daydate appointedset ofby the father |
| 4:3 |
So wewith alsous; when we were children we were heldslaves into bondagethe underelemental thespirits rudiments of the world:universe |
| 4:4 |
butBut when the fulnesstime ofhad thefully timecome came God sent forth his Son born of a woman born under the law |
| 4:5 |
thatto he might redeem themthose thatwho were under the law so that we might receive the adoption ofas sons |
| 4:6 |
And because yeyou are sons God has sent forth the Spirit of his Son into our hearts crying Abba Father |
| 4:7 |
So thatthrough thouGod artyou are no longer a bondservantslave but a son; and if a son then an heir through God |
| 4:8 |
HowbeitFormerly atwhen thatyou timedid not knowingknow God yeyou were in bondage to thembeings that by nature are no gods:; |
| 4:9 |
but now that yeyou have come to know God or rather to be known by God how can you turn ye back again to the weak and beggarly rudimentselemental whereuntospirits yewhose desireslaves you want to be inonce bondagemore over again |
| 4:10 |
YeYou observe days and months and seasons and years |
| 4:11 |
I am afraid of you lest by any means I have bestowedlabored laborover upon you in vain |
| 4:12 |
Brethren I beseech you brethren become as I am for I also amhave become as yeyou are YeYou did me no wrong:; |
| 4:13 |
butyou ye know thatit was because of ana infirmitybodily ofailment thethat flesh I preached the gospel untoto you theat first; time: |
| 4:14 |
and thatthough whichmy condition was a temptationtrial to you inyou mydid fleshnot yescorn despisedor notdespise norme rejected; but ye received me as an angel of God even as Christ Jesus |
| 4:15 |
WhereWhat thenhas isbecome thatof gratulationthe ofsatisfaction yourselvesyou forfelt For I bear you witness that if possible yeyou would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me |
| 4:16 |
SoHave I then am I become your enemy by telling you the truth |
| 4:17 |
They zealouslymake seekmuch of you inbut for no good waypurpose; nay they desirewant to shut you out that yeyou may seekmake much of them |
| 4:18 |
ButFor a good purpose it is always good to be zealouslymade soughtmuch inof a good matter at all times and not only when I am present with you |
| 4:19 |
My little children ofwith whom I am again in travail until Christ be formed in you— |
| 4:20 |
but I could wish to be present with you now and to change my tone; for I am perplexed about you |
| 4:21 |
Tell me yeyou thatwho desire to be under the law do yeyou not hear the law |
| 4:22 |
For it is written that Abraham had two sons one by thea handmaidslave and one by thea freewomanfree woman |
| 4:23 |
HowbeitBut the son byof the handmaidslave iswas born afteraccording to the flesh; but the son byof the freewomanfree iswoman born through promise |
| 4:24 |
WhichNow thingsthis containis an allegory: for these women are two covenants; oneOne is from mountMount Sinai bearing children untofor bondageslavery; whichshe is Hagar |
| 4:25 |
Now this Hagar is mountMount Sinai in Arabia; andshe answerethcorresponds to the present Jerusalem that now is: for she is in bondageslavery with her children |
| 4:26 |
But the Jerusalem that is above is free whichand she is our mother |
| 4:27 |
For it is written Rejoice thouO barren thatone bearestwho does not bear; Breakbreak forth and cryshout thouyou thatwho travailestare not: Forin moretravail; arefor the children of the desolate one are many more than the children of her that hathis the husbandmarried |
| 4:28 |
Now we brethren aslike Isaac was are children of promise |
| 4:29 |
But as thenat that time he thatwho was born afteraccording to the flesh persecuted him thatwho was born afteraccording to the Spirit so also it is now |
| 4:30 |
HowbeitBut what saithdoes the scripture say Cast out the handmaidslave and her son:; for the son of the handmaidslave shall not inherit with the son of the freewomanfree woman |
| 4:31 |
WhereforeSo brethren we are not children of athe handmaidslave but of the freewomanfree woman |
| 5:1 |
For freedom did Christ has set us free:; stand fast therefore and bedo not entangledsubmit again into a yoke of bondageslavery |
| 5:2 |
BeholdNow I Paul say untoto you that if yeyou receive circumcision Christ will profitbe of no advantage to you nothing |
| 5:3 |
Yea I testify again to every man thatwho receivethreceives circumcision that he is abound debtor to dokeep the whole law |
| 5:4 |
YeYou are severed from Christ yeyou who would be justified by the law; yeyou arehave fallen away from grace |
| 5:5 |
For we through the Spirit by faith we wait for the hope of righteousness |
| 5:6 |
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything nor uncircumcision; is of any avail but faith working through love |
| 5:7 |
YeYou were running well; who hindered you thatfrom yeobeying should not obey the truth |
| 5:8 |
This persuasion cameis not offrom him thatwho callethcalls you |
| 5:9 |
A little leaven leavenethleavens the whole lump |
| 5:10 |
I have confidence to you ward in the Lord that yeyou will betake noneno otherwiseother minded:view butthan mine; and he thatwho troublethis troubling you shallwill bear his judgment whosoeverwhoever he beis |
| 5:11 |
But if I brethren if I still preach circumcision why am I still persecuted thenIn haththat case the stumbling block of the cross has been doneremoved away |
| 5:12 |
I wouldwish thatthose theywho that unsettle you would evenmutilate go beyond circumcisionthemselves |
| 5:13 |
For yeyou brethren were called forto freedom brethren; only usedo not use your freedom foras an occasionopportunity tofor the flesh but through love be servants of one to another |
| 5:14 |
For the whole law is fulfilled in one word evenYou inshall this: Thou shalt love thyyour neighbor as thyselfyourself |
| 5:15 |
But if yeyou bite and devour one another take heed that yeyou beare not consumed by one of another |
| 5:16 |
But I say Walkwalk by the Spirit and yedo shall not fulfilgratify the lustdesires of the flesh |
| 5:17 |
For the desires of the flesh lustethare against the Spirit and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh; for these are contraryopposed the one to theeach other; thatto yeprevent mayyou notfrom dodoing thewhat thingsyou that ye would |
| 5:18 |
But if yeyou are led by the Spirit yeyou are not under the law |
| 5:19 |
Now the works of the flesh are manifest which are theseplain: fornication uncleannessimpurity lasciviousnesslicentiousness |
| 5:20 |
idolatry sorcery enmitiesenmity strife jealousiesjealousy wrathsanger factionsselfishness divisionsdissension partiesparty spirit |
| 5:21 |
envyingsenvy drunkenness revellingscarousing and suchthe like; of which I forewarnwarn you even as I didwarned forewarn you before that theythose who practisedo such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God |
| 5:22 |
But the fruit of the Spirit is love joy peace longsufferingpatience kindness goodness faithfulness |
| 5:23 |
meeknessgentleness self control; against such there is no law |
| 5:24 |
And theythose thatwho arebelong ofto Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with theits passions and the lusts thereofdesires |
| 5:25 |
If we live by the Spirit by the Spirit let us also walk by the Spirit |
| 5:26 |
Let us nothave becomeno vaingloriousself conceit no provoking of one another envyingno envy of one another |
| 6:1 |
Brethren even if a man beis overtaken in any trespass yeyou who are spiritual should restore suchhim a one in a spirit of gentleness; lookingLook to thyselfyourself lest thouyou alsotoo be tempted |
| 6:2 |
Bear ye one anothers burdens and so fulfil the law of Christ |
| 6:3 |
For if aany manone thinkeththinks himselfhe tois be something when he is nothing he deceivethdeceives himself |
| 6:4 |
But let each manone provetest his own work and then shallhis hereason haveto hisboast gloryingwill be in regard of himself alone and not ofin his neighbor |
| 6:5 |
For each man shallwill have to bear his own burdenload |
| 6:6 |
ButLet let him thatwho is taught in the word communicateshare untoall himgood thatthings teachethwith inhim allwho good things teaches |
| 6:7 |
BeDo not be deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoeverwhatever a man sowethsows that shall he will also reap |
| 6:8 |
For he thatwho sowethsows untoto his own flesh shallwill offrom the flesh reap corruption; but he thatwho sowethsows untoto the Spirit shallwill offrom the Spirit reap eternal life |
| 6:9 |
And let us not begrow weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap if we faintdo not lose heart |
| 6:10 |
So then as we have opportunity let us workdo that which is good towardto all men and especially towardto themthose thatwho are of the household of the faith |
| 6:11 |
See with howwhat large letters I writeam untowriting to you with minemy own hand |
| 6:12 |
AsIt manyis asthose desirewho want to make a fairgood showshowing in the flesh theythat would compel you to be circumcised; and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ |
| 6:13 |
For not even theythose who receive circumcision do not themselves keep the law; but they desire to have you circumcised that they may glory in your flesh |
| 6:14 |
But far be it from me to glory saveexcept in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ throughby which the world hathhas been crucified untoto me and I untoto the world |
| 6:15 |
For neither is circumcision counts for anything nor uncircumcision but a new creaturecreation |
| 6:16 |
AndPeace asand manymercy asbe shallupon all who walk by this rule peace be upon them and mercy and upon the Israel of God |
| 6:17 |
Henceforth let no man trouble me; for I bear branded on my body the marks of Jesus |
