| 1:1 |
In the third year of the reign of JehoiakimJehoi′akim king of Judah cameNebuchadnez′zar Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon untocame to Jerusalem and besieged it |
| 1:2 |
And the Lord gave JehoiakimJehoi′akim king of Judah into his hand with partsome of the vessels of the house of God; and he carriedbrought them intoto the land of Shinar to the house of his god: and heplaced brought the vessels intoin the treasuretreasury house of his god |
| 1:3 |
AndThen the king spakecommanded untoAsh′penaz Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchschief thateunuch heto should bring insome certain of the childrenpeople of Israel evenboth of the seed royal family and of the nobles;nobility |
| 1:4 |
youths inwithout whom was no blemish buthandsome well favored and skilful in all wisdom andendowed endued with knowledge and understanding sciencelearning and suchcompetent as had ability to standserve in the kings palace; and thatto he should teach them the learningletters and thelanguage tongue of the ChaldeansChalde′ans |
| 1:5 |
AndThe the king appointedassigned for them a daily portion of the kingsrich daintiesfood which the king ate and of the wine which he drank andThey thatwere theyto should be nourishededucated for three years; thatand at the end thereofof that time they shouldwere to stand before the king |
| 1:6 |
NowAmong among these were ofDaniel theHanani′ah childrenMish′a ofel Judahand DanielAzari′ah Hananiahof Mishaelthe andtribe Azariahof Judah |
| 1:7 |
And the princechief of the eunuchs gave them names unto them: unto Daniel he gavecalled theBelteshaz′zar nameHanani′ah ofhe Belteshazzar;called and to Hananiah of Shadrach; andMish′a toel Mishaelhe ofcalled Meshach; and toAzari′ah Azariahhe ofcalled Abed ′nego |
| 1:8 |
But Daniel purposedresolved in his heart that he would not defile himself with the kings daintiesrich norfood or with the wine which he drank:; therefore he requestedasked of the princechief of the eunuchs thatto heallow mighthim not to defile himself |
| 1:9 |
NowAnd God madegave Daniel tofavor find kindness and compassion in the sight of the princechief of the eunuchs; |
| 1:10 |
Andand the princechief of the eunuchs said untoto Daniel I fear lest my lord the king who hath appointed your food and your drink: forshould whysee shouldthat heyou seewere yourin facespoorer worsecondition looking than the youths thatwho are of your own age soSo you would ye endanger my head with the king |
| 1:11 |
Then Daniel said Daniel to the steward whom the princechief of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel HananiahHanani′ah MishaelMish′a el and Azariah:Azari′ah |
| 1:12 |
ProveTest thyyour servants Ifor beseech thee ten days; and let themus givebe usgiven pulsevegetables to eat and water to drink |
| 1:13 |
Then let our countenancesappearance be looked upon before thee and the countenanceappearance of the youths thatwho eat of the kings dainties;rich food be observed by you and asaccording thouto seestwhat you see deal with thyyour servants |
| 1:14 |
So he hearkened untoto them in this matter and provedtested them for ten days |
| 1:15 |
AndAt at the end of ten days theirit countenanceswas appearedseen fairerthat and they were better in appearance and fatter in flesh than all the youths thatwho didate eat of the kings daintiesrich food |
| 1:16 |
So the steward took away their daintiesrich food and the wine that they shouldwere to drink and gave them pulsevegetables |
| 1:17 |
NowAs as for these four youths God gave them knowledgelearning and skill in all learningletters and wisdom:; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams |
| 1:18 |
AndAt at the end of the daystime whichwhen the king had appointedcommanded forthat bringingthey themshould be brought in the princechief of the eunuchs brought them in before NebuchadnezzarNebuchadnez′zar |
| 1:19 |
And the king communedspoke with them; and among them all none was found none like Daniel HananiahHanani′ah MishaelMish′a el and Azariah:Azari′ah; therefore they stood they before the king |
| 1:20 |
And in every matter of wisdom and understanding concerning which the king inquired of them he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters that were in all his realmkingdom |
| 1:21 |
And Daniel continued evenuntil unto the first year of kingKing Cyrus |
| 2:1 |
AndIn in the second year of the reign of NebuchadnezzarNebuchadnez′zar NebuchadnezzarNebuchadnez′zar dreamedhad dreams; and his spirit was troubled and his sleep wentleft from him |
| 2:2 |
Then the king commanded tothat call the magicians and the enchanters and the sorcerers and the ChaldeansChalde′ans be summoned to tell the king his dreams So they came in and stood before the king |
| 2:3 |
And the king said untoto them I havehad dreamed a dream and my spirit is troubled to know the dream |
| 2:4 |
Then spake the ChaldeansChalde′ans said to the king in the Syrian language O king live for ever: tellTell thyyour servants the dream and we will show the interpretation |
| 2:5 |
The king answered and said to the ChaldeansChalde′ans The thingword isfrom goneme fromis mesure: if yeyou makedo not make known untoto me the dream and theits interpretation thereofyou ye shall be cuttorn inlimb piecesfrom limb and your houses shall be madelaid ain dunghillruins |
| 2:6 |
But if yeyou show the dream and theits interpretation thereofyou ye shall receive offrom me gifts and rewards and great honor: thereforeTherefore show me the dream and theits interpretation thereof |
| 2:7 |
They answered thea second time and said Let the king tell his servants the dream and we will show theits interpretation |
| 2:8 |
The king answered and said I know ofwith a certainty that yeyou wouldare trying to gain time because yeyou see that the thingword is gone from me is sure |
| 2:9 |
Butthat if yeyou makedo not make the dream known untoto me the dream there is but one lawsentence for you; forYou ye have preparedagreed to speak lying and corrupt words to speak before me till the timetimes bechange changed:Therefore therefore tell me the dream and I shall know that yeyou can show me theits interpretation thereof |
| 2:10 |
The ChaldeansChalde′ans answered before the king and said There is not a man uponon the earth thatwho can showmeet the kings matterdemand; forasmuchfor as no kinggreat lordand orpowerful rulerking hathhas asked such a thing of any magician or enchanter or ChaldeanChalde′an |
| 2:11 |
AndThe it is a rare thing that the king requirethasks and there is nodifficult otherand thatnone can show it beforeto the king except the gods whose dwelling is not with flesh |
| 2:12 |
ForBecause of this cause the king was angry and very furious and commanded tothat destroy all the wise men of Babylon be destroyed |
| 2:13 |
So the decree went forth andthat the wise men were to be slain; and they sought Daniel and his companions to beslay slainthem |
| 2:14 |
Then Daniel returnedreplied answer with counselprudence and prudencediscretion to AriochAr′i och the captain of the kings guard who washad gone forthout to slay the wise men of Babylon; |
| 2:15 |
he answered and said to AriochAr′i och the kings captain WhereforeWhy is the decree soof urgent from the king so severe Then AriochAr′i och made the thingmatter known to Daniel |
| 2:16 |
And Daniel went in and desiredbesought of the king thatto he would appoint him a time andthat he wouldmight show to the king the interpretation |
| 2:17 |
Then Daniel went to his house and made the thingmatter known to HananiahHanani′ah MishaelMish′a el and AzariahAzari′ah his companions: |
| 2:18 |
thatand theytold wouldthem desireto merciesseek mercy of the God of heaven concerning this secret;mystery so that Daniel and his companions shouldmight not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon |
| 2:19 |
Then was the secretmystery was revealed untoto Daniel in a vision of the night Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven |
| 2:20 |
Daniel answered and said: Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever; forto whom belong wisdom and might are his |
| 2:21 |
AndHe hechanges changeth the times and the seasons; he removethremoves kings and settethsets up kings; he givethgives wisdom untoto the wise and knowledge to themthose thatwho have understanding; |
| 2:22 |
he revealethreveals the deep and secretmysterious things; he knowethknows what is in the darkness and the light dwellethdwells with him |
| 2:23 |
ITo thank thee and praise thee O thou God of my fathers whoI give thanks and praise for thou hast given me wisdom and mightstrength and hast now made known untoto me what we desiredasked of thee; for thou hast made known untoto us the kings matter |
| 2:24 |
Therefore Daniel went in untoto AriochAr′i och whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon; he went and said thus untoto him: DestroyDo not destroy the wise men of Babylon; bring me in before the king and I will show unto the king the interpretation |
| 2:25 |
Then AriochAr′i och brought in Daniel before the king in haste and said thus untoto him: I have found aamong man of the childrenexiles offrom theJudah captivitya ofman Judahwho thatcan will make known untoto the king the interpretation |
| 2:26 |
The king answered and said to Daniel whose name was BelteshazzarBelteshaz′zar ArtAre thouyou able to make known untoto me the dream whichthat I have seen and theits interpretation thereof |
| 2:27 |
Daniel answered before the king andNo saidwise Themen secretenchanters whichmagicians theor kingastrologers hath demanded can neithershow wiseto menthe enchantersking magiciansthe normystery soothsayerswhich show unto the king; has asked |
| 2:28 |
but there is a God in heaven thatwho revealethreveals secretsmysteries and he hathhas made known to theKing kingNebuchadnez′zar Nebuchadnezzar what shallwill be in the latter days ThyYour dream and the visions of thyyour head uponas thyyou lay in bed are these: |
| 2:29 |
asTo foryou thee O king thyas thoughtsyou camelay intoin thybed mindcame uponthoughts thyof bed what shouldwould comebe to pass hereafter; and he thatwho revealethreveals secretsmysteries hath made known to theeyou what shallis come to passbe |
| 2:30 |
But as for me this secret is not revealedbecause toof me for any wisdom that I have more than anyall the living buthas this mystery been revealed to theme intentbut in order that the interpretation may be made known to the king and that thouyou mayestmay know the thoughts of thyyour heartmind |
| 2:31 |
ThouYou saw O king sawest and behold a great image This image which was mighty and whoseof exceeding brightness was excellent stood before thee;you and theits aspectappearance thereof was terriblefrightening |
| 2:32 |
AsThe forhead of this image its head was of fine gold its breast and its arms of silver its belly and its thighs of brassbronze |
| 2:33 |
its legs of iron its feet partpartly of iron and partpartly of clay |
| 2:34 |
ThouAs sawestyou tilllooked that a stone was cut out withoutby handsno whichhuman hand and it smote the image uponon its feet that were of iron and clay and brakebroke them in pieces; |
| 2:35 |
Thenthen was the iron the clay the brassbronze the silver and the gold all together were broken in pieces together and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away so that nonot placea wastrace foundof for them: andcould be found But the stone that smotestruck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth |
| 2:36 |
This iswas the dream; andnow we will tell the interpretationking thereofits beforeinterpretation the king |
| 2:37 |
ThouYou O king artthe king of kings untoto whom the God of heaven hathhas given the kingdom the power and the strengthmight and the glory; |
| 2:38 |
and wheresoeverinto whose hand he has given wherever they dwell the childrensons of men dwell the beasts of the field and the birds of the heavensair hathmaking heyou given into thy hand and hath made thee to rule over them all:—you thouare art the head of gold |
| 2:39 |
AndAfter afteryou thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee;you and anotheryet a third kingdom of brassbronze which shall bear rule over all the earth |
| 2:40 |
And thethere shall be a fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron forasmuchbecause as iron breakethbreaks into pieces and subduethshatters all things; and aslike iron thatwhich crushethcrushes allit these shall it break in pieces and crush all these |
| 2:41 |
And whereasas thouyou sawestsaw the feet and toes partpartly of potters clay and partpartly of iron it shall be a divided kingdom; but theresome shallof bethe infirmness it of theiron strengthshall ofbe thein ironit forasmuchjust as thouyou sawestsaw the iron mixed with the miry clay |
| 2:42 |
And as the toes of the feet were partpartly of iron and partpartly of clay so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly brokenbrittle |
| 2:43 |
AndAs whereasyou thousaw sawest the iron mixed with miry clay so they shallwill minglemix themselves with theone seedanother ofin men;marriage but they shallwill not cleavehold onetogether tojust another even as iron dothdoes not minglemix with clay |
| 2:44 |
And in the days of those kings shall the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed nor shall theits sovereignty thereof be left to another people; butIt it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms and bring them to an end and it shall stand for ever; |
| 2:45 |
Forasmuchjust as thouyou sawestsaw that a stone was cut outfrom ofa the mountain withoutby handsno human hand and that it brakebroke in pieces the iron the brassbronze the clay the silver and the gold; theA great God hathhas made known to the king what shall comebe to pass hereafter: andThe the dream is certain and theits interpretation thereof sure |
| 2:46 |
Then theKing kingNebuchadnez′zar Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face and worshippeddid homage to Daniel and commanded that theyan shouldoffering offerand anincense oblationbe andoffered sweetup odorsto unto him |
| 2:47 |
The king answeredsaid untoto Daniel andTruly said Of a truth your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings and a revealer of secretsmysteries seeingfor thouyou hasthave been able to reveal this secretmystery |
| 2:48 |
Then the king madegave Daniel greathigh honors and gave him many great gifts and made him toruler rule over the whole province of Babylon and to be chief governorprefect over all the wise men of Babylon |
| 2:49 |
And Daniel requestedmade request of the king and he appointed Shadrach Meshach and Abed ′nego over the affairs of the province of Babylon:; but Daniel wasremained inat the gatekings of the kingcourt |
| 3:1 |
NebuchadnezzarKing theNebuchadnez′zar king made an image of gold whose height was threescoresixty cubits and theits breadth thereof six cubits: heHe set it up inon the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon |
| 3:2 |
Then NebuchadnezzarKing theNebuchadnez′zar king sent to gatherassemble together the satraps the deputiesprefects and the governors the judgescounselors the treasurers the counsellorsjustices the sheriffsmagistrates and all the rulersofficials of the provinces to come to the dedication of the image which NebuchadnezzarKing theNebuchadnez′zar king had set up |
| 3:3 |
Then the satraps the deputiesprefects and the governors the judgescounselors the treasurers the counsellorsjustices the sheriffsmagistrates and all the rulersofficials of the provinces were gatheredassembled togetherfor unto the dedication of the image that NebuchadnezzarKing theNebuchadnez′zar king had set up; and they stood before the image that NebuchadnezzarNebuchadnez′zar had set up |
| 3:4 |
ThenAnd the herald criedproclaimed aloud ToYou youare it is commanded O peoples nations and languages |
| 3:5 |
that atwhen whatyou time ye hear the sound of the cornethorn flutepipe harplyre sackbuttrigon psalteryharp dulcimerbagpipe and allevery kindskind of music yeyou are to fall down and worship the golden image that NebuchadnezzarKing theNebuchadnez′zar kinghas hath set up; |
| 3:6 |
and whosowhoever fallethdoes not fall down and worshippethworship shall theimmediately same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace |
| 3:7 |
Therefore atas thatsoon timeas when all the peoples heard the sound of the cornethorn flutepipe lyre trigon harp sackbutbagpipe psaltery and allevery kindskind of music all the peoples the nations and the languages fell down and worshippedworshiped the golden image thatwhich NebuchadnezzarKing theNebuchadnez′zar king had set up |
| 3:8 |
WhereforeTherefore at that time certain ChaldeansChalde′ans came nearforward and broughtmaliciously accusationaccused against the Jews |
| 3:9 |
They answered and said to NebuchadnezzarKing theNebuchadnez′zar king O king live for ever |
| 3:10 |
ThouYou O king hasthave made a decree that every man thatwho shallhears hear the sound of the cornethorn flutepipe harplyre sackbuttrigon psalteryharp andbagpipe dulcimer and allevery kindskind of music shall fall down and worship the golden image; |
| 3:11 |
and whosowhoever fallethdoes not fall down and worshippethworship shall be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace |
| 3:12 |
There are certain Jews whom thouyou hasthave appointed over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach Meshach and Abed ′nego; theseThese men O king havepay notno regardedheed thee:to you; they servedo not thyserve your gods noror worship the golden image which thouyou hasthave set up |
| 3:13 |
Then NebuchadnezzarNebuchadnez′zar in hisfurious rage and fury commanded tothat bring Shadrach Meshach and Abed ′nego be brought Then they brought these men before the king |
| 3:14 |
NebuchadnezzarNebuchadnez′zar answered and said untoto them Is it oftrue purpose O Shadrach Meshach and Abed ′nego that yeyou servedo not serve my godgods noror worship the golden image which I have set up |
| 3:15 |
Now if yeyou beare ready thatwhen atyou what time ye hear the sound of the cornethorn flutepipe harplyre sackbuttrigon psalteryharp andbagpipe dulcimer and allevery kindskind of music yeto fall down and worship the image which I have made well: and good; but if yeyou worshipdo not yeworship you shall immediately be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is thatthe god that shallwill deliver you out of my hands |
| 3:16 |
Shadrach Meshach and Abed ′nego answered and said to the king O NebuchadnezzarNebuchadnez′zar we have no need to answer theeyou in this matter |
| 3:17 |
If it be so our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and he will deliver us out of thyyour hand O king |
| 3:18 |
But if not be it known untoto theeyou O king that we will not serve thyyour gods noror worship the golden image which thouyou hasthave set up |
| 3:19 |
Then Nebuchadnez′zar was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury and the formexpression of his visageface was changed against Shadrach Meshach and Abed ′nego: thereforeHe heordered spake and commanded that they should heat the furnace heated seven times more than it was wont to be heated |
| 3:20 |
And he commandedordered certain mighty men thatof were in his army to bind Shadrach Meshach and Abed ′nego and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace |
| 3:21 |
Then these men were bound in their hosenmantles their tunics and their mantleshats and their other garments and they were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace |
| 3:22 |
ThereforeBecause because the kings commandmentorder was urgentstrict and the furnace exceedingvery hot the flame of the fire slew those men thatwho took up Shadrach Meshach and Abed ′nego |
| 3:23 |
And these three men Shadrach Meshach and Abed ′nego fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace |
| 3:24 |
Then NebuchadnezzarKing theNebuchadnez′zar king was astonished and rose up in haste: heHe spake and said untoto his counsellorscounselors Did we not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire They answered and said unto the king True O king |
| 3:25 |
He answered andBut said Lo I see four men loose walking in the midst of the fire and they haveare nonot hurt; and the aspectappearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods |
| 3:26 |
Then NebuchadnezzarNebuchadnez′zar came near to the mouthdoor of the burning fiery furnace: he spake and said Shadrach Meshach and Abed ′nego ye servants of the Most High God come forth and come hitherhere Then Shadrach Meshach and Abed ′nego came forth out offrom the midst of the fire |
| 3:27 |
And the satraps the deputiesprefects and the governors and the kings counsellorscounselors being gathered together and saw these men that the fire had nonot had any power uponover theirthe bodies norof wasthose men; the hair of their headheads singedwas neithernot weresinged their hosenmantles changedwere nornot hadharmed theand no smell of fire passedhad oncome upon them |
| 3:28 |
NebuchadnezzarNebuchadnez′zar spake and said Blessed be the God of Shadrach Meshach and Abed ′nego who hathhas sent his angel and delivered his servants thatwho trusted in him and haveset changedat nought the kings wordcommand and have yielded up their bodies thatrather theythan might not serve norand worship any god except their own God |
| 3:29 |
Therefore I make a decree: thatAny every people nation andor language whichthat speakspeaks anything amiss against the God of Shadrach Meshach and Abed ′nego shall be cuttorn inlimb piecesfrom limb and their houses shalllaid bein made a dunghillruins; becausefor there is no other god thatwho is able to deliver afterin this sortway |
| 3:30 |
Then the king promoted Shadrach Meshach and Abed ′nego in the province of Babylon |
| 4:1 |
Nebuchadnezzar theKing kingNebuchadnez′zar untoto all the peoples nations and languages that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied untoto you |
| 4:2 |
It hathhas seemed good untoto me to show the signs and wonders that the Most High God hathhas wrought toward me |
| 4:3 |
How great are his signs and how mighty are his wonders hisHis kingdom is an everlasting kingdom and his dominion is from generation to generation |
| 4:4 |
I NebuchadnezzarNebuchadnez′zar was at restease in my house and flourishingprospering in my palace |
| 4:5 |
I sawhad a dream which made me afraid; andas theI thoughtslay uponin my bed the fancies and the visions of my head troubledalarmed me |
| 4:6 |
Therefore I made I a decree tothat bring in all the wise men of Babylon should be brought before me that they might make known untoto me the interpretation of the dream |
| 4:7 |
Then came in the magicians the enchanters the ChaldeansChalde′ans and the soothsayersastrologers came in; and I told them the dream before them; but they didcould not make known untoto me theits interpretation thereof |
| 4:8 |
ButAt at the last Daniel came in before me—he whosewho name was Belteshazzarnamed accordingBelteshaz′zar toafter the name of my god and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: —and I told him the dream before him saying |
| 4:9 |
O BelteshazzarBelteshaz′zar masterchief of the magicians because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in theeyou and that no secretmystery troublethis theedifficult tellfor meyou thehere visionsis ofthe my dream thatwhich I havesaw; seentell andme theits interpretation thereof |
| 4:10 |
ThusThe were the visions of my head uponas myI lay in bed were these: I saw and behold a tree in the midst of the earth; and theits height thereof was great |
| 4:11 |
The tree grew and wasbecame strong and theits heighttop thereof reached untoto heaven and theit sightwas thereofvisible to the end of all the whole earth |
| 4:12 |
TheIts leaves thereof were fair and theits fruit thereofabundant much and in it was food for all: theThe beasts of the field hadfound shadowshade under it and the birds of the heavensair dwelt in theits branches thereof and all flesh was fed from it |
| 4:13 |
I saw in the visions of my head uponas myI lay in bed and behold a watcher and a holy one came down from heaven |
| 4:14 |
He cried aloud and said thus Hew down the tree and cut off its branches shakestrip off its leaves and scatter its fruit:; let the beasts getflee away from under it and the fowlsbirds from its branches |
| 4:15 |
NeverthelessBut leave the stump of its roots in the earth evenbound with a band of iron and brassbronze inamid the tender grass of the field; andLet lethim it be wet with the dew of heaven:; and let his portionlot be with the beasts in the grass of the earth:; |
| 4:16 |
let his heartmind be changed from a mans and let a beasts heartmind be given untoto him; and let seven times pass over him |
| 4:17 |
The sentence is by the decree of the watchers and the demanddecision by the word of the holy ones; to the intentend that the living may know that the Most High rulethrules in the kingdom of men and givethgives it to whomsoeverwhom he will and settethsets up over it the lowestlowliest of men |
| 4:18 |
This dream I kingKing NebuchadnezzarNebuchadnez′zar havesaw seen; And andyou thou O BelteshazzarBelteshaz′zar declare the interpretation forasmuchbecause as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known untoto me the interpretation; but thouyou artare able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in theeyou |
| 4:19 |
Then Daniel whose name was BelteshazzarBelteshaz′zar was strickendismayed dumb for a whilemoment and his thoughts troubledalarmed him The king answered and said BelteshazzarBelteshaz′zar let not the dream or the interpretation troublealarm theeyou BelteshazzarBelteshaz′zar answered and said My lord may the dream be tofor themthose thatwho hate theeyou and theits interpretation thereoffor toyour thineenemies adversaries |
| 4:20 |
The tree thatyou thousaw sawest which grew and wasbecame strong whoseso heightthat its top reached untoto heaven and theit sightwas thereofvisible to allthe end of the whole earth; |
| 4:21 |
whose leaves were fair and theits fruit thereofabundant much and in itwhich was food for all; under which the beasts of the field dweltfound shade and uponin whose branches the birds of the heavensair haddwelt— their habitation: |
| 4:22 |
it is thouyou O king thatwho arthave grown and become strong; forYour thy greatness ishas grown and reachethreaches untoto heaven and thyyour dominion to the endends of the earth |
| 4:23 |
And whereas the king saw a watcher and a holy one coming down from heaven and saying Hew down the tree and destroy it; neverthelessbut leave the stump of theits roots thereof in the earth evenbound with a band of iron and brassbronze in the tender grass of the field; and let ithim be wet with the dew of heaven:; and let his portionlot be with the beasts of the field till seven times pass over him; |
| 4:24 |
this is the interpretation O king: andIt it is thea decree of the Most High which ishas come upon my lord the king: |
| 4:25 |
that thouyou shaltshall be driven from among men and thyyour dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field; andyou thoushall shalt be made to eat grass aslike oxenan ox and shaltyou shall be wet with the dew of heaven and seven times shall pass over thee;you till thouyou know that the Most High rulethrules in the kingdom of men and givethgives it to whomsoeverwhom he will |
| 4:26 |
And whereasas theyit was commanded to leave the stump of the roots of the tree; thyyour kingdom shall be sure untofor theeyou afterfrom thatthe thoutime shaltthat haveyou knownknow that theHeaven heavensrules do rule |
| 4:27 |
WhereforeTherefore O king let my counsel be acceptable untoto theeyou; and break off thyyour sins by practicing righteousness and thineyour iniquities by showing mercy to the poor;oppressed ifthat there may perhaps be a lengthening of thyyour tranquillity |
| 4:28 |
All this came upon theKing kingNebuchadnez′zar Nebuchadnezzar |
| 4:29 |
At the end of twelve months he was walking inon the roof of the royal palace of Babylon |
| 4:30 |
Theand the king spake and said Is not this great Babylon which I have built forby themy royalmighty dwellingpower placeas bya theroyal mightresidence of my power and for the glory of my majesty |
| 4:31 |
While the wordwords waswere still in the kings mouth there fell a voice from heaven saying O kingKing NebuchadnezzarNebuchadnez′zar to theeyou it is spoken: The kingdom ishas departed from thee:you |
| 4:32 |
and thouyou shaltshall be driven from among men; and thyyour dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field; thouand shaltyou shall be made to eat grass aslike oxenan ox; and seven times shall pass over thee;you until thouyou knowhave learned that the Most High rulethrules in the kingdom of men and givethgives it to whomsoeverwhom he will |
| 4:33 |
TheImmediately samethe hourword was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar:Nebuchadnez′zar andHe he was driven from among men and didate eat grass aslike oxenan ox and his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hair wasgrew grownas likelong as eagles feathers and his nails were like birds claws |
| 4:34 |
AndAt at the end of the days I NebuchadnezzarNebuchadnez′zar lifted upmy mine eyes untoto heaven and minemy understandingreason returned untoto me and I blessed the Most High and I praised and honored him thatwho livethlives for ever; for his dominion is an everlasting dominion and his kingdom endures from generation to generation; |
| 4:35 |
and all the inhabitants of the earth are reputedaccounted as nothing; and he doethdoes according to his will in the armyhost of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand or say untoto him What doest thou |
| 4:36 |
At the same time minemy understandingreason returned untoto me; and for the glory of my kingdom my majesty and brightnesssplendor returned untoto me; andMy mycounselors counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom and excellentstill more greatness was added untoto me |
| 4:37 |
Now I NebuchadnezzarNebuchadnez′zar praise and extol and honor the King of heaven; for all his works are truthright and his ways justiceare just; and those thatwho walk in pride he is able to abase |
| 5:1 |
BelshazzarKing theBelshaz′zar king made a great feast tofor a thousand of his lords and drank wine beforein front of the thousand |
| 5:2 |
BelshazzarBelshaz′zar whilewhen he tasted the wine commanded tothat bring the goldenvessels of gold and of silver vessels which NebuchadnezzarNebuchadnez′zar his father had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; be brought that the king and his lords his wives and his concubines might drink therefromfrom them |
| 5:3 |
Then they brought in the golden and silver vessels thatwhich werehad been taken out of the temple of the house of God whichin was at Jerusalem; and the king and his lords his wives and his concubines drank from them |
| 5:4 |
They drank wine and praised the gods of gold and of silver ofbronze brass of iron of wood and of stone |
| 5:5 |
InImmediately the same hour came forth the fingers of a mans hand appeared and wrote overon against the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the kings palace: andopposite the kinglampstand; sawand the partking ofsaw the hand thatas it wrote |
| 5:6 |
Then the kings countenancecolor was changed in him and his thoughts troubledalarmed him; and the joints of his loinslimbs weregave loosedway and his knees smoteknocked onetogether against another |
| 5:7 |
The king cried aloud to bring in the enchanters the ChaldeansChalde′ans and the soothsayersastrologers The king spake and said to the wise men of Babylon WhosoeverWhoever shallreads read this writing and showshows me theits interpretation thereof shall be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold about his neck and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom |
| 5:8 |
Then came in all the kings wise men; came in but they could not read the writing noror make known to the king the interpretation |
| 5:9 |
Then wasKing kingBelshaz′zar Belshazzarwas greatly troubledalarmed and his countenancecolor was changed; in him and his lords were perplexed |
| 5:10 |
NowThe the queen bybecause reason of the words of the king and his lords came into the banquetbanqueting house:hall; and the queen spake and said O king live for ever; letLet not thyyour thoughts troublealarm theeyou noror letyour thycolor countenancechange be changed |
| 5:11 |
There is a man in thyyour kingdom a man in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; andIn in the days of thyyour father light and understanding and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods were found in him; and theKing kingNebuchadnez′zar Nebuchadnezzaryour thy father the king I say thy father made him masterchief of the magicians enchanters ChaldeansChalde′ans and soothsayers;astrologers |
| 5:12 |
forasmuchbecause as an excellent spirit and knowledge and understanding interpretingto ofinterpret dreams andexplain showingriddles of dark sentences and dissolvingsolve ofproblems doubts were found in thethis same Daniel whom the king named BelteshazzarBelteshaz′zar Now let Daniel be called and he will show the interpretation |
| 5:13 |
Then Daniel was Daniel brought in before the king The king spake and said untoto Daniel ArtYou thouare that Daniel whoone art of the childrenexiles of the captivity of Judah whom the king my father brought outfrom of Judah |
| 5:14 |
I have heard of theeyou that the spirit of the holy gods is in theeyou and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in theeyou |
| 5:15 |
AndNow now the wise men the enchanters have been brought in before me thatto they should read this writing and make known untoto me theits interpretation thereof; but they could not show the interpretation of the thingmatter |
| 5:16 |
But I have heard of thee that thouyou canstcan give interpretations and dissolvesolve doubts:problems nowNow if thouyou canstcan read the writing and make known to me theits interpretation thereofyou thoushall shalt be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold about thyyour neck and shaltshall be the third ruler in the kingdom |
| 5:17 |
Then Daniel answered and said before the king Let thyyour gifts be tofor thyselfyourself and give thyyour rewards to another; nevertheless I will read the writing untoto the king and make known to him the interpretation |
| 5:18 |
O thou king the Most High God gave NebuchadnezzarNebuchadnez′zar thyyour father thekingship kingdom and greatness and glory and majesty:; |
| 5:19 |
and because of the greatness that he gave him all the peoples nations and languages trembled and feared before him:; whom he would he slew and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he raised up and whom he would he put down |
| 5:20 |
But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly he was deposed from his kingly throne and they took his glory was taken from him:; |
| 5:21 |
and he was driven from theamong sons of men and his heartmind was made like thethat beastsof a beast and his dwelling was with the wild asses; he was fed with grass like oxenan ox and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; until he knew that the Most High God rulethrules in the kingdom of men and thatsets he setteth up over it whomsoeverwhom he will |
| 5:22 |
And thouyou his son OBelshaz′zar Belshazzarhave hast not humbled thyyour heart though thouyou knewestknew all this |
| 5:23 |
but hastyou have lifted up thyselfyourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house have been brought in before theeyou and thouyou and thyyour lords thyyour wives and thyyour concubines have drunk wine from them; and thouyou hasthave praised the gods of silver and gold of brassbronze iron wood and stone which seedo not norsee or hear noror know; andbut the God in whose hand thyis your breath is and whose are all thyyour ways hastyou thouhave not glorified honored |
| 5:24 |
Then wasfrom thehis partpresence of the hand was sent from before him and this writing was inscribed |
| 5:25 |
And this is the writing that was inscribed: mene mene tekel upharsinand parsin |
| 5:26 |
This is the interpretation of the thingmatter: mene; God hathhas numbered thythe days of your kingdom and brought it to an end; |
| 5:27 |
tekel; thouyou arthave been weighed in the balances and art found wanting; |
| 5:28 |
peres; thyyour kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians |
| 5:29 |
Then Belshaz′zar commanded Belshazzar and theyDaniel was clothed Daniel with purple and put a chain of gold was put about his neck and proclamation was made proclamation concerning him that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom |
| 5:30 |
InThat thatvery night BelshazzarBelshaz′zar the ChaldeanChalde′an king was slain |
| 5:31 |
And Darius the Mede received the kingdom being about threescoresixty and two years old |
| 6:1 |
It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom a hundred and twenty satraps whoto should be throughout the whole kingdom; |
| 6:2 |
and over them three presidents of whom Daniel was one; thatto whom these satraps mightshould give account untoso them and that the king shouldmight havesuffer no damageloss |
| 6:3 |
Then this Daniel wasbecame distinguished above all the other presidents and the satraps because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thoughtplanned to set him over the whole realmkingdom |
| 6:4 |
Then the presidents and the satraps sought to find occasiona ground for complaint against Daniel aswith touchingregard to the kingdom; but they could find no occasionground norfor complaint or any fault forasmuchbecause as he was faithful neitherand wasno there any error or fault was found in him |
| 6:5 |
Then said these men said We shall not find any occasionground for complaint against this Daniel exceptunless we find it againstin himconnection concerningwith the law of his God |
| 6:6 |
Then these presidents and satraps assembledcame togetherby agreement to the king and said thusto unto him O King Darius live for ever |
| 6:7 |
All the presidents of the kingdom the deputiesprefects and the satraps the counsellorscounselors and the governors haveare consultedagreed togetherthat tothe king should establish aan royalordinance statute and toenforce makean a strong interdict that whosoeverwhoever shallmakes ask a petition ofto any god or man for thirty days saveexcept ofto theeyou O king he shall be cast into the den of lions |
| 6:8 |
Now O king establish the interdict and sign the writingdocument so that it cannot be not changed according to the law of the Medes and the Persians which alterethcannot notbe revoked |
| 6:9 |
WhereforeTherefore kingKing Darius signed the writingdocument and the interdict |
| 6:10 |
AndWhen when Daniel knew that the writingdocument washad been signed he went intoto his house nowwhere hishe had windows were open in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem; and he kneeledgot down upon his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God as he didhad aforetimedone previously |
| 6:11 |
Then these men assembledcame togetherby agreement and found Daniel making petition and supplication before his God |
| 6:12 |
Then they came near and spakesaid before the king concerning the kings interdict: HastO thouking Did you not signedsign an interdict that everyany man thatwho shallmakes make petition untoto any god or man within thirty days saveexcept untoto theeyou O king shall be cast into the den of lions The king answered and said The thing isstands truefast according to the law of the Medes and Persians which alterethcannot notbe revoked |
| 6:13 |
Then answered they andanswered said before the king That Daniel who is one of the childrenexiles offrom theJudah captivitypays ofno Judahheed regardethto notyou thee O king noror the interdict thatyou thouhave hast signed but makethmakes his petition three times a day |
| 6:14 |
Then the king when he heard these words was soremuch displeaseddistressed and set his heartmind on Daniel to deliver himDaniel; and he labored till the goingsun went down of the sun to rescue him |
| 6:15 |
Then these men assembledcame togetherby untoagreement to the king and said untoto the king Know O king that it is a law of the Medes and Persians that no interdict noror statuteordinance which the king establishethestablishes maycan be changed |
| 6:16 |
Then the king commanded and theyDaniel was brought Daniel and cast him into the den of lions NowThe the king spake and said untoto Daniel ThyMay your God whom thouyou servestserve continually he will deliver theeyou |
| 6:17 |
And a stone was brought and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet and with the signet of his lords; that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel |
| 6:18 |
Then the king went to his palace and passedspent the night fasting; neitherno diversions were instruments of music brought beforeto him: and his sleep fled from him |
| 6:19 |
Then theat kingbreak aroseof veryday earlythe inking thearose morning and went in haste untoto the den of lions |
| 6:20 |
AndWhen when he came near untoto the den towhere Daniel was he cried without in a lamentabletone voice;of theanguish king spake and said to Daniel O Daniel servant of the living God ishas thyyour God whom thouyou servestserve continually been able to deliver theeyou from the lions |
| 6:21 |
Then Daniel said Danielto unto the king O king live for ever |
| 6:22 |
My God hath sent his angel and hath shut the lions mouths and they have not hurt me; forasmuchbecause asI before him innocency was found inblameless mebefore him; and also before theeyou O king I have I done no hurtwrong |
| 6:23 |
Then was the king exceedingwas exceedingly glad and commanded that theyDaniel shouldbe taketaken Daniel up out of the den So Daniel was taken up out of the den and no mannerkind of hurt was found upon him becausebeause he had trusted in his God |
| 6:24 |
And the king commanded and they brought those men thatwho had accused Daniel were brought and they cast them into the den of lions—they them their children and their wives; and thebefore lionsthey hadreached the masterybottom of the den the lions overpowered them and brakebroke all their bones in pieces before they came to the bottom of the den |
| 6:25 |
Then kingKing Darius wrote untoto all the peoples nations and languages that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied untoto you |
| 6:26 |
I make a decree that in all themy royal dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel; for he is the living God andenduring stedfast for ever; And his kingdom that which shall notnever be destroyed; and his dominion shall be evento unto the end |
| 6:27 |
He deliverethdelivers and rescuethrescues and he workethworks signs and wonders in heaven and inon earth he who hathhas deliveredsaved Daniel from the power of the lions |
| 6:28 |
So this Daniel prospered induring the reign of Darius and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian |
| 7:1 |
In the first year of BelshazzarBelshaz′zar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head uponas he lay in his bed: thenThen he wrote down the dream and told the sum of the mattersmatter |
| 7:2 |
Daniel spake and said I saw in my vision by night and behold the four winds of heaven brakewere forthstirring uponup the great sea |
| 7:3 |
And four great beasts came up fromout of the sea diversedifferent from one from another |
| 7:4 |
The first was like a lion and had eagles wings: Then as I beheldlooked tillits the wings thereof were plucked off and it was lifted up from the earthground and made to stand upon two feet aslike a man; and the mind of a mansman heart was given to it |
| 7:5 |
And behold another beast a second one like to a bear; andIt it was raised up on one side; andit had three ribs were in its mouth between its teeth:; and theyit saidwas thustold unto it Arise devour much flesh |
| 7:6 |
After this I beheldlooked and lo another like a leopard whichwith had upon its back four wings of a bird on its back; and the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it |
| 7:7 |
After this I saw in the night visions and behold a fourth beast terrible and powerfuldreadful and exceedingly strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth; it devoured and brakebroke in pieces and stamped the residue with its feet: andIt it was diversedifferent from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns |
| 7:8 |
I considered the horns and behold there came up among them another horn a little one before which three of the first horns were plucked up by the roots:; and behold in this horn were eyes like the eyes of a man and a mouth speaking great things |
| 7:9 |
As I beheldlooked till thrones were placed and one that was ancient of days didtook sit:his seat; his raiment was white as snow and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames andits the wheels thereofwere burning fire |
| 7:10 |
A fiery stream of fire issued and came forth from before him:; thousandsa ofthousand thousands ministeredserved unto him and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him:; the judgmentcourt wassat setin judgment and the books were opened |
| 7:11 |
I beheldlooked atthen that time because of the voicesound of the great words which the horn spake;was Ispeaking beheldAnd evenas tillI looked the beast was slain and its body destroyed and itgiven wasover given to be burned with fire |
| 7:12 |
AndAs as for the rest of the beasts their dominion was taken away: yetbut their lives were prolonged for a season and a time |
| 7:13 |
I saw in the night visions and behold there came with the clouds of heaven there came one like unto a son of man and he came even to the ancientAncient of daysDays and theywas broughtpresented him near before him |
| 7:14 |
And thereto him was given him dominion and glory and a kingdom that all the peoples nations and languages should serve him:; his dominion is an everlasting dominion which shall not pass away and his kingdom one that which shall not be destroyed |
| 7:15 |
As for me Daniel my spirit waswithin grievedme inwas theanxious midst of my body and the visions of my head troubledalarmed me |
| 7:16 |
I cameapproached near unto one of themthose thatwho stood bythere and asked him the truth concerning all this So he told me and made known to me know the interpretation of the things |
| 7:17 |
These four great beasts which are four are four kings thatwho shall arise out of the earth |
| 7:18 |
But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom and possess the kingdom for ever even for ever and ever |
| 7:19 |
Then I desired to know the truth concerning the fourth beast which was diversedifferent from all ofthe themrest exceedingexceedingly terrible whosewith its teeth were of iron and itsclaws nails of brassbronze; and which devoured brakeand broke in pieces and stamped the residue with its feet; |
| 7:20 |
and concerning the ten horns that were on its head and the other horn which came up and before which three of them fell eventhe that horn thatwhich had eyes and a mouth that spakespoke great things whoseand lookwhich wasseemed moregreater stout than its fellows |
| 7:21 |
As I beheldlooked andthis the same horn made war with the saints and prevailed againstover them; |
| 7:22 |
until the ancientAncient of daysDays came and judgment was given tofor the saints of the Most High and the time came thatwhen the saints possessedreceived the kingdom |
| 7:23 |
Thus he said: TheAs for the fourth beast there shall be a fourth kingdom uponon earth which shall be diversedifferent from all the kingdoms and it shall devour the whole earth and shalltrample tread it down and break it into pieces |
| 7:24 |
AndAs as for the ten horns out of this kingdom shall ten kings shall arise: and another shall arise after them; and he shall be diversedifferent from the former ones and he shall put down three kings |
| 7:25 |
AndHe he shall speak words against the Most High and shall wear out the saints of the Most High; and he shall think to change the times and the law; and they shall be given into his hand untilfor a time andtwo times and half a time |
| 7:26 |
But the judgmentcourt shall besit setin judgment and theyhis dominion shall takebe taken away histo dominionbe toconsumed consume and destroyed to destroy it unto the end |
| 7:27 |
And the kingdom and the dominion and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High:; histheir kingdom isshall be an everlasting kingdom and all dominions shall serve and obey him them |
| 7:28 |
Here is the end of the matter As for me Daniel my thoughts muchgreatly troubledalarmed me and my countenancecolor was changed; in me: but I kept the matter in my heartmind |
| 8:1 |
In the third year of the reign of kingKing BelshazzarBelshaz′zar a vision appeared untoto me even unto me Daniel after that which appeared untoto me at the first |
| 8:2 |
And I saw in the vision; nowand it was so that when I saw I was in ShushanSusa the palacecapital which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in the vision and I was byat the river UlaiU′lai |
| 8:3 |
Then I liftedraised upmy mine eyes and saw and behold therea stoodram beforestanding on the riverbank aof ramthe whichriver It had two horns:; and theboth two horns were high; but one was higher than the other and the higher one came up last |
| 8:4 |
I saw the ram pushingcharging westward and northward and southward; and no beastsbeast could stand before him neitherand there was thereno anyone thatwho could deliverrescue outfrom of his handpower; but he did accordingas tohe hispleased will and magnified himself |
| 8:5 |
AndAs as I was considering behold a he goat came from the west overacross the face of the whole earth andwithout touchedtouching not the ground:; and the goat had a notableconspicuous horn between his eyes |
| 8:6 |
AndHe he came to the ram thatwith had the two horns which I sawhad seen standing beforeon the bank of the river and he ran uponat him in thehis furymighty ofwrath his power |
| 8:7 |
And I saw him come close untoto the ram and he was movedenraged with anger against him and smotestruck the ram and brakebroke his two horns; and therethe wasram had no power in the ram to stand before him; but he cast him down to the ground and trampled upon him; and there was noneno thatone who could deliverrescue the ram outfrom of his handpower |
| 8:8 |
AndThen the he goat magnified himself exceedingly:; andbut when he was strong the great horn was broken; and instead of it there came up four notableconspicuous horns toward the four winds of heaven |
| 8:9 |
AndOut out of one of them came forth a little horn which waxedgrew exceedingexceedingly great toward the south and toward the east and toward the glorious land |
| 8:10 |
AndIt itgrew waxed great even to the host of heaven; and some of the host and of the stars it cast down to the ground and trampled upon them |
| 8:11 |
YeaIt it magnified itself even up to the princePrince of the host; and itthe tookcontinual awayburnt fromoffering himwas thetaken continualaway burntfrom offeringhim and the place of his sanctuary was castoverthrown down |
| 8:12 |
And the host was given over to it together with the continual burnt offering through transgression; and ittruth was cast down truth to the ground and itthe didhorn itsacted pleasure and prospered |
| 8:13 |
Then I heard a holy one speaking; and another holy one said untoto thatthe certain one whothat spakespoke HowFor how long shallis be the vision concerning the continual burnt offering and the transgression that makethmakes desolate toand givethe bothgiving over of the sanctuary and the host to be troddentrampled under foot |
| 8:14 |
And he said untoto mehim UntoFor two thousand and three hundred evenings and mornings; then shall the sanctuary shall be cleansedrestored to its rightful state |
| 8:15 |
AndWhen it came to pass when I even I Daniel had seen the vision that I sought to understand it; and behold there stood before me asone having the appearance of a man |
| 8:16 |
And I heard a mans voice between the banks of the UlaiU′lai whichand it called and said Gabriel make this man to understand the vision |
| 8:17 |
So he came near where I stood; and when he came I was affrightedfrightened and fell upon my face: butBut he said untoto me Understand O son of man; forthat the vision belongethis tofor the time of the end |
| 8:18 |
NowAs as he was speaking withto me I fell into a deep sleep with my face towardto the ground; but he touched me and set me uprighton my feet |
| 8:19 |
AndHe he said Behold I will make theeknown knowto you what shall be inat the latter timeend of the indignation; for it belongethpertains to the appointed time of the end |
| 8:20 |
TheAs for the ram which thouyou sawestsaw thatwith had the two horns theythese are the kings of Media and Persia |
| 8:21 |
And the rough he goat is the king of Greece:; and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king |
| 8:22 |
AndAs as for the horn that which was broken in the place whereofof which four stoodothers uparose four kingdoms shall standarise upfrom outhis of the nation but not with his power |
| 8:23 |
And inat the latter timeend of their kingdomrule when the transgressors arehave comereached totheir the full measure a king of fiercebold countenance andone understandingwho darkunderstands sentencesriddles shall standarise up |
| 8:24 |
AndHis his power shall be mightygreat but not by his own power; and he shall destroycause wonderfullyfearful destruction and shall prospersucceed andin dowhat hishe pleasure;does and he shall destroy the mighty onesmen and the holy people of the saints |
| 8:25 |
AndBy through his policycunning he shall causemake craftdeceit to prosper inunder his hand; and in his own mind he shall magnify himself inWithout hiswarning hearthe and in their security shall he destroy many:; and he shall alsoeven standrise up against the princePrince of princes; but by no human hand he shall be broken without hand |
| 8:26 |
AndThe the vision of the evenings and the mornings which hathhas been told is true:; but shutseal thou up the vision; for it belongethpertains to many days to come hence |
| 8:27 |
And I Daniel faintedwas overcome and waslay sick certainfor some days; then I rose up and didwent about the kings business:; andbut I wonderedwas atappalled by the vision butand nonedid understoodnot understand it |
| 9:1 |
In the first year of Darius the son of AhasuerusAhasu ofe′rus theby seedbirth ofa theMede Medes who wasbecame made king over the realm of the ChaldeansChalde′ans— |
| 9:2 |
in the first year of his reign I Daniel understoodperceived byin the books the number of the years whereofwhich according to the word of Jehovahthe cameLord to Jeremiah the prophet formust pass before the accomplishingend of the desolations of Jerusalem evennamely seventy years |
| 9:3 |
AndThen I setturned my face untoto the Lord God toseeking seekhim by prayer and supplications with fasting and sackcloth and ashes |
| 9:4 |
And I prayed untoto Jehovahthe Lord my God and made confession andsaying saidO Oh Lord the great and dreadfulterrible God who keepethkeeps covenant and lovingkindnesssteadfast love with themthose thatwho love him and keep his commandments |
| 9:5 |
we have sinned and havedone dealtwrong perversely and haveacted done wickedly and have rebelled even turning aside from thy preceptscommandments and from thine ordinances; |
| 9:6 |
neitherwe have wenot hearkenedlistened untoto thy servants the prophets thatwho spakespoke in thy name to our kings our princes and our fathers and to all the people of the land |
| 9:7 |
To thee O Lord belongs righteousness belongeth unto thee but untoto us confusion of face as at this day; to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and untoto all Israel those that are near and those that are far offaway throughin all the countrieslands whitherto which thou hast driven them because of theirthe trespasstreachery thatwhich they have trespassedcommitted against thee |
| 9:8 |
To us O Lord tobelongs us belongeth confusion of face to our kings to our princes and to our fathers because we have sinned against thee |
| 9:9 |
To the Lord our God belong merciesmercy and forgiveness; forbecause we have rebelled against him; |
| 9:10 |
neitherand have wenot obeyed the voice of Jehovahthe Lord our God toby walkfollowing in his laws which he set before us by his servants the prophets |
| 9:11 |
YeaAll all Israel havehas transgressed thy law evenand turningturned aside thatrefusing theyto should not obey thy voice: thereforeAnd hath the curse been poured out upon us and the oath thatwhich isare written in the law of Moses the servant of God; forhave been poured out upon us because we have sinned against him |
| 9:12 |
AndHe hehas hath confirmed his words which he spakespoke against us and against our judgesrulers thatwho judgedruled us by bringing upon us a great evilcalamity; for under the whole heaven haththere has not been done asthe hathlike of what has been done uponagainst Jerusalem |
| 9:13 |
As it is written in the law of Moses all this evilcalamity ishas come upon us: yet we have we not entreated the favor of Jehovahthe Lord our God thatturning we should turn from our iniquities and havegiving discernmentheed into thy truth |
| 9:14 |
Therefore haththe JehovahLord watchedhas overkept ready the evilcalamity and has brought it upon us; for Jehovahthe Lord our God is righteous in all histhe works which he doethhas done and we have not obeyed his voice |
| 9:15 |
And now O Lord our God thatwho hastdidst broughtbring thy people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand and hast gottenmade thee renowna name as at this day; we have sinned we have done wickedly |
| 9:16 |
O Lord according to all thy righteousnessrighteous acts let thinethy anger and thy wrath Iturn pray thee be turned away from thy city Jerusalem thy holy mountainhill; because for our sins and for the iniquities of our fathers Jerusalem and thy people arehave become a reproachbyword toamong all thatwho are round about us |
| 9:17 |
Now therefore O our God hearken untoto the prayer of thy servant and to his supplications and for thy own sake O Lord cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary thatwhich is desolate for the Lords sake |
| 9:18 |
O my God incline thinethy ear and hear; open thinethy eyes and behold our desolations and the city which is called by thy name:; for we do not present our supplications before thee foron the ground of our righteousnessesrighteousness but foron the ground of thy great merciesmercy sake |
| 9:19 |
O Lord hear; O Lord forgive; O Lord hearkengive heed and doact; deferdelay not for thinethy own sake O my God because thy city and thy people are called by thy name |
| 9:20 |
AndWhile while I was speaking and praying and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel and presenting my supplication before Jehovahthe Lord my God for the holy mountainhill of my God; |
| 9:21 |
yea while I was speaking in prayer the man Gabriel whom I had seen in the vision at the beginningfirst beingcame caused to flyme swiftlyin touchedswift meflight aboutat the time of the evening oblationsacrifice |
| 9:22 |
AndHe hecame instructedand mehe andsaid talkedto with me and said O Daniel I amhave now come forthout to give theeyou wisdom and understanding |
| 9:23 |
At the beginning of thyyour supplications thea commandmentword went forth and I amhave come to tell thee;it to you for thouyou artare greatly beloved:; therefore consider the matterword and understand the vision |
| 9:24 |
Seventy weeks of years are decreed uponconcerning thyyour people and uponyour thy holy city to finish the transgression and to makeput an end ofto sinssin and to makeatone reconciliation for iniquity and to bring in everlasting righteousness and to seal upboth vision and prophecyprophet and to anoint thea most holy place |
| 9:25 |
Know therefore and discernunderstand that from the going forth of the commandmentword to restore and to build Jerusalem untoto the coming of an anointed one thea prince there shall be seven weeks andThen threescorefor andsixty two weeks: it shall be built again with streetsquares and moat evenbut in troublousa timestroubled time |
| 9:26 |
And after the threescoresixty and two weeks shallan the anointed one shall be cut off and shall have nothing:; and the people of the prince thatwho shallis to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; andIts the end thereof shall become with a flood and evento unto the end there shall be war; desolations are determineddecreed |
| 9:27 |
And he shall make a firmstrong covenant with many for one week:; and infor thehalf midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and theoffering oblation to cease; and upon the wing of abominations shall come one thatwho makethmakes desolate; anduntil even unto the fulldecreed end andis that determined shall wrath be poured out uponon the desolatedesolator |
| 10:1 |
In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thingword was revealed untoto Daniel whosewho name was callednamed Belteshazzar;Belteshaz′zar andAnd the thingword was true evenand it was a great warfare:conflict andAnd he understood the thingword and had understanding of the vision |
| 10:2 |
In those days I Daniel was mourning for three whole weeks |
| 10:3 |
I ate no pleasantdelicacies breadno neithermeat cameor flesh nor wine intoentered my mouth neithernor did I anoint myself at all tillfor the full three whole weeks were fulfilled |
| 10:4 |
AndOn in the fourtwenty andfourth twentieth day of the first month as I was bystanding on the sidebank of the great river whichthat is Hiddekelthe Tigris |
| 10:5 |
I lifted up minemy eyes and looked and behold a man clothed in linen whose loins were girded with pure gold of Uphaz: |
| 10:6 |
hisHis body also was like the beryl and his face aslike the appearance of lightning and his eyes aslike flaming torches and his arms and hislegs feet like untothe gleam of burnished brassbronze and the voicesound of his words like the voicenoise of a multitude |
| 10:7 |
And I Daniel alone saw the vision; for the men thatwho were with me sawdid not see the vision; but a great quakingtrembling fell upon them and they fled to hide themselves |
