7:20 At whichthis seasontime Moses was born and was exceedingbeautiful fair;before andGod And he was nourishedbrought up for three months in his fathers house:;
7:21 and when he was castexposed out Pharaohs daughter tookadopted him up and nourishedbrought him forup as her own son
7:22 And Moses was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians; and he was mighty in his words and works deeds
7:23 ButWhen when he was well nigh forty years old it came into his heart to visit his brethren the childrensons of Israel
7:24 And seeing one of them sufferbeing wrongwronged he defended himthe oppressed man and avenged him thatby wasstriking oppressed smiting the Egyptian:
7:25 andHe he supposed that his brethren understood that God by his hand was giving them deliverance; by his hand but they understooddid not understand
7:26 And on the following day following he appeared untoto them as they strovewere quarreling and would have setreconciled them at one again saying SirsMen yeyou are brethren; why do yeyou wrong oneeach toother another
7:27 But hethe thatman didwho was wronging his neighbor wrong thrust him awayaside saying Who made theeyou a ruler and a judge over us
7:28 WouldestDo thouyou want to kill me as thouyou killedstkilled the Egyptian yesterday
7:29 AndAt this retort Moses fled at this saying and became aan sojournerexile in the land of MidianMid′ian where he begatbecame the father of two sons
7:30 AndNow when forty years werehad fulfilledpassed an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of mountMount Sinai in a flame of fire in a bush
7:31 AndWhen when Moses saw it he wondered at the sight:; and as he drew near to beholdlook therethe came a voice of the Lord came
7:32 I am the God of thyyour fathers the God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob And Moses trembled and durstdid not beholddare to look
7:33 And the Lord said untoto him LooseTake off the shoes from thyyour feet: for the place whereonwhere thouyou standestare standing is holy ground
7:34 I have surely seen the afflictionill treatment of my people that isare in Egypt and have heard their groaning and I amhave come down to deliver them: andAnd now come I will send theeyou intoto Egypt
7:35 This Moses whom they refused saying Who made theeyou a ruler and a judge him hath God sent toas be both a ruler and a deliverer withby the hand of the angel that appeared to him in the bush
7:36 ThisHe man led them forthout having wroughtperformed wonders and signs in Egypt and inat the Red seaSea and in the wilderness for forty years
7:37 This is thatthe Moses who said untoto the childrenIsraelites ofGod Israelwill A prophet shall God raise up untofor you a prophet from among your brethren likeas untohe raised me up
7:38 This is he thatwho was in the churchcongregation in the wilderness with the angel thatwho spakespoke to him inat theMount mount Sinai and with our fathers:; whoand he received living oracles to give untoto us:
7:39 toOur whom our fathers wouldrefused notto beobey obedienthim but thrust him fromaside them and turned back in their hearts untothey turned to Egypt
7:40 saying untoto Aaron Make for us gods thatto shall go before us:; for as for this Moses who led us forth out offrom the land of Egypt we knowdo not know what ishas become of him
7:41 And they made a calf in those days and broughtoffered a sacrifice untoto the idol and rejoiced in the works of their hands
7:42 But God turned and gave them upover to serveworship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets: Did yeyou offer untoto me slain beasts and sacrifices Fortyforty years in the wilderness O house of Israel
7:43 And yeyou took up the tabernacletent of Moloch Andand the star of the god Rephan Thethe figures which yeyou made to worship; them:and And I will carryremove you away beyond Babylon
7:44 Our fathers had the tabernacletent of thewitness testimony in the wilderness even as he appointed who spakespoke untoto Moses thatdirected hehim shouldto make it according to the figurepattern that he had seen
7:45 WhichOur also our fathers in their turn brought it in with Joshua when they entereddispossessed on the possession of the nations thatwhich God thrust out before theour facefathers ofSo ourit fatherswas untountil the days of David;
7:46 who found favor in the sight of God and asked leave to find a habitation for the God of Jacob
7:47 But it was Solomon who built him a house for him
7:48 HowbeitYet the Most High dwellethdoes not dwell in houses made with hands; as saith the prophet says
7:49 TheHeaven heaven is my throne Andand the earth themy footstool of my feet: What manner of house will yeyou build for me saithsays the Lord: Oror what is the place of my rest
7:51 YeYou stiffneckedstiff andnecked people uncircumcised in heart and ears yeyou do always resist the Holy Spirit: asAs your fathers did so do yeyou
7:52 Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute andAnd they killed themthose thatwho showedannounced beforebeforehand of the coming of the Righteous One; of whom yeyou have now becomebetrayed betrayers and murderers;murdered
7:53 yeyou who received the law as itdelivered was ordained by angels and keptdid not keep it not
7:54 Now when they heard these things they were cutenraged to the heart and they gnashedground ontheir himteeth withagainst theirhim teeth
7:55 But he being full of the Holy Spirit lookedgazed up stedfastly into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing onat the right hand of God;
7:56 and he said Behold I see the heavens opened and the Son of man standing onat the right hand of God
7:57 But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together upon him with one accord;
7:58 andThen they cast him out of the city and stoned him:; and the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul
7:59 And as they stonedwere stoning Stephen callinghe uponprayed the Lord and saying Lord Jesus receive my spirit
7:60 And he kneeledknelt down and cried with a loud voice Lord laydo not hold this sin toagainst theirthem charge And when he had said this he fell asleep
8:1 And Saul was consenting untoto his death And there arose on that day a great persecution arose against the church which was in Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regionsregion of JudaeaJudea and SamariaSamar′ia except the apostles
8:2 AndDevout devout men buried Stephen and made great lamentation over him
8:3 But Saul laidwas wasteravaging the church and entering intohouse everyafter house andhe draggingdragged off men and women and committed them to prison
8:4 TheyNow thereforethose thatwho were scattered abroad went about preaching the word
8:5 And Philip went down to thea city of SamariaSamar′ia and proclaimed untoto them the Christ
8:6 And the multitudes gave heed with one accord untogave theheed thingsto thatwhat werewas spokensaid by Philip when they heard him and saw the signs which he did
8:7 For fromunclean manyspirits ofcame thoseout thatof hadmany uncleanwho spiritswere theypossessed came out crying with a loud voice:; and many thatwho were palsiedparalyzed andor that were lame were healed
8:8 AndSo there was much joy in that city
8:9 But there was a certain man named Simon bywho namehad whopreviously beforetimepracticed magic in the city used sorcery and amazed the peoplenation of SamariaSamar′ia givingsaying out that he himself was somesomebody great one:
8:10 toThey whom they all gave heed to him from the least to the greatest saying This man is that power of God which is called Great
8:11 And they gave heed to him because thatfor ofa long time he had amazed them with his sorceriesmagic
8:12 But when they believed Philip preachingas he preached good tidingsnews concerningabout the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ they were baptized both men and women
8:13 AndEven Simon also himself believed: and after being baptized he continued with Philip; andAnd beholdingseeing signs and great miracles wroughtperformed he was amazed
8:14 Now when the apostles that were at Jerusalem heard that SamariaSamar′ia had received the word of God they sent untoto them Peter and John:
8:15 who whencame theydown wereand come down prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit:;
8:16 for asit yethad itnot wasyet fallen uponon noneany of them: onlybut they had only been baptized intoin the name of the Lord Jesus
8:17 Then they laid they their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit
8:18 Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles hands the Holy Spirit was given he offered them money
8:19 saying Give me also this power that any one on whomsoeverwhom I lay my hands he may receive the Holy Spirit
8:20 But Peter said untoto him ThyYour silver perish with theeyou because thouyou hast thought toyou could obtain the gift of God with money
8:21 ThouYou hasthave neither part nor lot in this matter: for thyyour heart is not right before God
8:22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness of yours and pray to the Lord that if perhapspossible the thoughtintent of thyyour heart shallmay be forgiven theeyou
8:23 For I see that thouyou artare in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity
8:24 And Simon answered and said Pray ye for me to the Lord that nonenothing of thewhat thingsyou whichhave yesaid havemay spoken come upon me
8:25 TheyNow therefore when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord they returned to Jerusalem andpreaching preached the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans
8:26 But an angel of the Lord spakesaid untoto Philip sayingRise Arise and go toward the south untoto the wayroad that goethgoes down from Jerusalem untoto Gaza: theThis same is a desert road
8:27 And he aroserose and went: andAnd behold aan manEthiopian ofa Ethiopiaeunuch a eunuchminister of greatthe authorityCan′dace under Candace queen of the Ethiopians whoin wascharge overof all her treasure who had come to Jerusalem to worship;
8:28 and he was returning; andseated sitting in his chariot andhe was reading the prophet Isaiah
8:29 And the Spirit said untoto Philip Go nearup and join thyself to this chariot
8:30 AndSo Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and saidasked UnderstandestDo thouyou understand what thouyou readestare reading
8:31 And he said How can I exceptunless some one shallguides guide me And he besoughtinvited Philip to come up and sit with him
8:32 Now the passage of the scripture which he was reading was this: HeAs was led as a sheep led to the slaughter; Andor as a lamb before hisits shearer is dumb Soso he openethopens not his mouth:
8:33 In his humiliation hisjustice judgment was takendenied away:him HisWho generationcan whodescribe shallhis declaregeneration For his life is taken up from the earth
8:34 And the eunuch answeredsaid to Philip andAbout saidwhom I pray theedoes of whom speaketh the prophet say this ofabout himself or ofabout some otherone else
8:35 AndThen Philip opened his mouth and beginning fromwith this scripture preachedhe untotold him the good news of Jesus
8:36 And as they went onalong the wayroad they came untoto asome certain water; and the eunuch saithsaid BeholdSee here is water; whatWhat dothis hinderto meprevent tomy bebeing baptized
8:38 And he commanded the chariot to standstop still: and they both went down into the water both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him
8:39 And when they came up out of the water the Spirit of the Lord caught awayup Philip; and the eunuch saw him no more forand he went on his way rejoicing
8:40 But Philip was found at Azotus:Azo′tus and passing throughon he preached the gospel to all the citiestowns till he came to CaesareaCaesare′a
9:1 But Saul yetstill breathing threateningthreats and slaughtermurder against the disciples of the Lord went untoto the high priest
9:2 and asked of him for letters to Damascus unto the synagogues at Damascus so that if he found any thatbelonging wereto of the Way whether men or women he might bring them bound to Jerusalem
9:3 AndNow as he journeyed it came to pass that he drewapproached nigh unto Damascus: and suddenly therea shonelight roundfrom heaven flashed about him a light out of heaven:
9:4 andAnd he fell uponto the earthground and heard a voice saying untoto him Saul Saul why persecutestdo thouyou persecute me
9:5 And he said Who artare thouyou Lord And he said I am Jesus whom thouyou persecutest:are persecuting;
9:6 but rise and enter into the city and ityou shallwill be told thee what thouyou mustare to do
9:7 AndThe the men thatwho journeyedwere traveling with him stood speechless hearing the voice but beholdingseeing no manone
9:8 And Saul arose from the earthground; and when his eyes were opened he sawcould see nothing; andso they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus
9:9 And hefor was three days he was without sight and did neither eatate nor drinkdrank
9:10 Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias;Anani′as andThe the Lord said untoto him in a vision AnaniasAnani′as And he said BeholdHere I am here Lord
9:11 And the Lord said untoto him AriseRise and go to the street which is called Straight and inquire in the house of Judas for one named Saul a man of Tarsus: named Saul; for behold he prayeth;is praying
9:12 and he hathhas seen a man named AnaniasAnani′as comingcome in and layinglay his hands on him so that he might receiveregain his sight
9:13 But AnaniasAnani′as answered Lord I have heard from many ofabout this man how much evil he didhas done to thy saints at Jerusalem:;
9:14 and here he hathhas authority from the chief priests to bind all thatwho call upon thy name
9:15 But the Lord said untoto him Go thy way: for he is a chosen vesselinstrument untoof memine to bearcarry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the childrensons of Israel:;
9:16 for I will show him how manymuch things he must suffer for the sake of my namesname sake
9:17 AndSo AnaniasAnani′as departed and entered into the house; andAnd laying his hands on him he said Brother Saul the Lord even Jesus who appeared untoto theeyou inon the wayroad by which thouyou camestcame hathhas sent me that thouyou mayestmay receiveregain thyyour sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit
9:18 And straightwayimmediately theresomething like scales fell from his eyes as it were scales and he receivedregained his sight; andThen he aroserose and was baptized;
9:19 and he took food and was strengthened AndFor several days he was certain days with the disciples that were at Damascus
9:20 And straightway in the synagogues immediately he proclaimed Jesus thatsaying heHe is the Son of God
9:21 And all thatwho heard him were amazed and said Is not this hethe thatman inwho Jerusalem made havoc in Jerusalem of themthose thatwho called on this name andAnd he hadhas come hitherhere for this intentpurpose thatto he might bring them bound before the chief priests
9:22 But Saul increased all the more in strength and confounded the Jews thatwho dweltlived atin Damascus by proving that thisJesus iswas the Christ
9:23 AndWhen when many days werehad fulfilledpassed the Jews tookplotted counsel together to kill him:
9:24 but their plot became known to Saul AndThey theywere watchedwatching the gates also day and night thatto they might kill him:;
9:25 but his disciples took him by night and let him down throughover the wall lowering him in a basket
9:26 And when he washad come to Jerusalem he assayedattempted to join himself to the disciples:; and they were all afraid of him for they did not believingbelieve that he was a disciple
9:27 But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles and declared untoto them how on the road he had seen the Lord inwho thespoke way and that he had spoken to him and how at Damascus he had preached boldly in the name of Jesus
9:28 AndSo he waswent with them going in and going out among them at Jerusalem
9:29 preaching boldly in the name of the Lord: andAnd he spakespoke and disputed against the Grecian JewsHellenists; but they were seeking to kill him
9:30 And when the brethren knew it they brought him down to CaesareaCaesare′a and sent him forthoff to Tarsus
9:31 So the church throughout all JudaeaJudea and Galilee and SamariaSamar′ia had peace beingand edifiedwas built up; and walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit it was multiplied
9:32 AndNow itas camePeter towent passhere asand Peterthere wentamong throughoutthem all parts he came down also to the saints that dweltlived at Lydda
9:33 AndThere there he found a certain man named AeneasAene′as who had keptbeen hisbedridden bedfor eight years; forand he was palsiedparalyzed
9:34 And Peter said untoto him AeneasAene′as Jesus Christ healethheals thee:you; ariserise and make thyyour bed And straightwayimmediately he aroserose
9:35 And all thatthe dweltresidents atof Lydda and in Sharon saw him and they turned to the Lord
9:36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha which bymeans interpretation is called Dorcas: thisShe woman was full of good works and almsdeedsacts whichof shecharity did
9:37 AndIn it came to pass in those days that she fell sick and died:; and when they had washed her they laid her in an upper chamberroom
9:38 AndSince as Lydda was nighnear unto Joppa the disciples hearing that Peter was there sent two men untoto him entreating him DelayPlease notcome to comeus onwithout untodelay us
9:39 AndSo Peter aroserose and went with them And when he washad come they broughttook him intoto the upper chamber:room andAll all the widows stood bybeside him weeping and showing thetunics coats and other garments which Dorcas made while she was with them
9:40 But Peter put them all forthoutside and kneeledknelt down and prayed; andthen turning to the body he said Tabitha ariserise And she opened her eyes; and when she saw Peter she sat up
9:41 And he gave her his hand and raisedlifted her up; andThen calling the saints and widows he presented her alive
9:42 And it became known throughout all Joppa: and many believed onin the Lord
9:43 And ithe camestayed toin passJoppa thatfor he abode many days in Joppa with one Simon a tanner
10:1 NowAt Caesare′a there was a certain man innamed Caesarea Cornelius by name a centurion of thewhat bandwas calledknown as the Italian bandCohort
10:2 a devout man andwho one that feared God with all his househousehold who gave much alms liberally to the people and prayed constantly to God always
10:3 HeAbout sawthe inninth ahour visionof openlythe asday ithe weresaw aboutclearly thein nintha hourvision of the day an angel of God coming in unto him and saying to him Cornelius
10:4 And he fasteningstared hisat eyeshim uponin himterror and being affrighted said What is it Lord And he said untoto him ThyYour prayers and thineyour alms arehave goneascended upas for a memorial before God
10:5 And now send men to Joppa and fetchbring one Simon who is surnamedcalled Peter:;
10:6 he lodgethis lodging with one Simon a tanner whose house is by the seaseaside side
10:7 AndWhen when the angel thatwho spakespoke untoto him washad departed he called two of his household servants and a devout soldier offrom themamong those that waited on him continually;
10:8 and having rehearsedrelated alleverything thingsto unto them he sent them to Joppa
10:9 NowThe onnext theday morrow as they were on their journey and drewcoming nighnear unto the city Peter went up uponon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
10:10 andAnd he became hungry and desired something to eat:; but while they madewere readypreparing it he fell into a trance;
10:11 and hesaw beholdeth the heaven opened and asomething certain vessel descending aslike it were a great sheet let down by four corners upon the earth:
10:12 whereinIn it were all mannerkinds of fourfootedanimals beasts and creepingreptiles things of the earth and birds of the heavenair
10:14 But Peter said NotNo so Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common andor unclean
10:15 And athe voice came untoto him again thea second time What God hathhas cleansed makeyou must not thoucall common
10:16 AndThis thishappened wasthree donetimes thrice: and straightway the vesselthing was receivedtaken up intoat once to heaven
10:17 Now while Peter was muchinwardly perplexed inas himselfto what the vision which he had seen might mean behold the men that were sent by Cornelius having made inquiry for Simons house stood before the gate
10:18 and called andout askedto ask whether Simon who was surnamedcalled Peter werewas lodging there
10:19 And while Peter thoughtwas onpondering the vision the Spirit said untoto him Behold three men seekare theelooking for you
10:20 ButRise arise and getgo thee down and goaccompany with them nothingwithout doubting:hesitation; for I have sent them
10:21 And Peter went down to the men and said Behold I am hethe whomone yeyou seek:are looking for; what is the causereason whereforefor yeyour arecoming come
10:22 And they said Cornelius a centurion aan righteousupright man and oneGod thatfearing fearethman Godwho andis well reportedspoken of by all the nationwhole ofJewish thenation Jews was warneddirected of God by a holy angel to send for theeyou intoto come to his house and to hear wordswhat fromyou theehave to say
10:23 So he called them in andto lodgedbe themhis Andguests onThe thenext morrowday he aroserose and went forthoff with them and certainsome of the brethren from Joppa accompanied him
10:24 And on the morrowfollowing day they entered intoCaesare′a Caesarea And Cornelius was waitingexpecting for them havingand had called together his kinsmen and hisclose near friends
10:25 AndWhen when it came to pass that Peter entered Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshippedworshiped him
10:26 But Peter raisedlifted him up saying Stand up; I myselftoo also am a man
10:27 And as he talked with him he went in and findethfound many comepersons together:gathered;
10:28 and he said untoto them YeYou yourselves know how unlawful it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to joinassociate himselfwith or cometo untovisit any one of another nation; andbut yetGod untohas shown me hath God showed that I should not call any man common or unclean:
10:29 whereforeSo alsowhen I camewas withoutsent gainsayingfor when I wascame sentwithout forobjection I ask thereforethen withwhy whatyou intent ye sent for me
10:30 And Cornelius said Four days ago untilabout this hour I was keeping the ninth hour of prayer in my house; and behold a man stood before me in bright apparel
10:31 andsaying saith Cornelius thyyour prayer ishas been heard and thineyour alms arehave hadbeen inremembered remembrancebefore in the sight of God
10:32 Send therefore to Joppa and callask untofor thee Simon who is surnamedcalled Peter; he lodgethis lodging in the house of Simon a tanner by the seaseaside side
10:33 ForthwithSo therefore I sent to thee;you at once and thouyou hasthave wellbeen donekind thatenough thouto art come Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God to hear all things that you have been commanded theeby of the Lord
10:34 And Peter opened his mouth and said: OfTruly a truth I perceive that God isshows no respecterpartiality of persons:
10:35 but in every nation heany thatone fearethwho fears him and workethdoes righteousnesswhat is right is acceptable to him
10:36 TheYou know the word which he sent untoto the children of Israel preaching good tidingsnews of peace by Jesus Christ he is Lord of all—
10:37 thatthe sayingword ye yourselves know which was publishedproclaimed throughout all JudaeaJudea beginning from Galilee after the baptism which John preached;:
10:38 evenhow God anointed Jesus of Nazareth how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power:; whohow he went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed ofby the devil; for God was with him
10:39 And we are witnesses ofto all thingsthat which he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem; whomThey alsoput theyhim slewto death by hanging him on a tree;
10:40 Himbut God raised uphim on the third day and gavemade him to be made manifest;
10:41 not to all the people but untoto witnessesus thatwho were chosen beforeby of God evenas towitnesses us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead
10:42 And he chargedcommanded us to preach untoto the people and to testify that thishe is hethe whoone is ordained ofby God to be thejudge Judge of the living and the dead
10:43 To him bear all the prophets bear witness that through his name every one thatwho believethbelieves onin him shallreceives receiveforgiveness remission of sins through his name
10:44 While Peter yetwas spakestill thesesaying wordsthis the Holy Spirit fell on all themwho that heard the word
10:45 And they of the circumcisionbelievers thatfrom believedamong werethe amazedcircumcised aswho many as came with Peter were amazed because thatthe ongift of the GentilesHoly alsoSpirit washad been poured out theeven gifton of the HolyGentiles Spirit
10:46 For they heard them speakspeaking within tongues and magnifyextolling God Then answered Peter declared
10:47 Can any manone forbid the water thatfor baptizing these shouldpeople not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit asjust well as we have
10:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ Then prayed they asked him to tarryremain certainfor some days
11:1 Now the apostles and the brethren thatwho were in JudaeaJudea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God
11:2 AndSo when Peter waswent come up to Jerusalem they that were of the circumcision contendedparty withcriticized him
11:3 saying ThouWhy wentestdid inyou go to uncircumcised men uncircumcised and didst eat with them
11:4 But Peter began and expoundedexplained theto matter unto them in order: saying
11:5 I was in the city of Joppa praying:; and in a trance I saw a vision asomething certain vessel descending aslike it were a great sheet let down from heaven by four corners; and it came evendown untoto me:
11:6 uponLooking whichat whenit closely I hadobserved fastenedanimals mine eyes I considered and saw the fourfooted beasts of theprey earth and wildreptiles beasts and creeping things and birds of the heavenair
11:7 And I heard also a voice saying untoto me Rise Peter; kill and eat
11:8 But I said NotNo so Lord:; for nothing common or unclean hathhas ever entered into my mouth
11:9 But athe voice answered thea second time outfrom of heaven What God hathhas cleansed makeyou must not thoucall common
11:10 AndThis thishappened wasthree donetimes thrice: and all werewas drawn up again into heaven
11:11 AndAt beholdthat forthwithvery moment three men stoodarrived beforeat the house in which we were havingsent beento sentme from CaesareaCaesare′a unto me
11:12 And the Spirit badetold me to go with them making no distinction AndThese these six brethren also accompanied me; and we entered into the mans house:
11:13 andAnd he told us how he had seen the angel standing in his house and saying Send to Joppa and fetchbring Simon whosecalled surname is Peter;
11:14 whohe shallwill speakdeclare untoto theeyou wordsa wherebymessage thouby shaltwhich you will be saved thouyou and all thyyour househousehold
11:15 AndAs as I began to speak the Holy Spirit fell on them evenjust as on us at the beginning
11:16 And I remembered the word of the Lord how he said John indeed baptized with water; but yeyou shall be baptized inwith the Holy Spirit
11:17 If then God gave unto them the likesame gift to them as he didgave alsoto unto us when we believed onin the Lord Jesus Christ who was I that I could withstand God
11:18 AndWhen when they heard thesethis things they heldwere theirsilenced peaceAnd andthey glorified God saying Then to the Gentiles also hath God has granted repentance unto life
11:19 TheyNow thereforethose thatwho were scattered abroadbecause uponof the tribulationpersecution that arose aboutover Stephen travelledtraveled as far as PhoeniciaPhoeni′cia and Cyprus and Antioch speaking the word to none saveexcept only to Jews
11:20 But there were some of them men of Cyprus and CyreneCyre′ne who whenon theycoming were come to Antioch spakespoke untoto the Greeks also preaching the Lord Jesus
11:21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number that believed turned untoto the Lord
11:22 AndNews theof reportthis concerning them came to the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas asto far as Antioch:
11:23 whoWhen when he wascame come and hadsaw seen the grace of God he was glad; and he exhorted them all thatto withremain purposefaithful ofto heartthe theyLord wouldwith cleavesteadfast untopurpose; the Lord:
11:24 for he was a good man and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith: andAnd mucha peoplelarge company was added untoto the Lord
11:25 AndSo heBarnabas went forth to Tarsus to seeklook for Saul;
11:26 and when he had found him he brought him untoto Antioch AndFor it came to pass that even for a whole year they weremet gathered together with the church and taught mucha large company of people; and thatin Antioch the disciples were calledfor Christiansthe first intime Antiochcalled Christians
11:27 Now in these days thereprophets came down prophets from Jerusalem untoto Antioch
11:28 And there stood up one of them named AgabusAg′abus stood up and signifiedforetold by the Spirit that there shouldwould be a great famine over all the world:; whichand camethis totook passplace in the days of Claudius
11:29 And the disciples determined every manone according to his ability determined to send relief untoto the brethren thatwho dweltlived in Judaea:Judea;
11:30 whichand also they did so sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul
12:1 NowAbout about that time Herod the king putlaid forthviolent his hands toupon afflictsome certainwho ofbelonged to the church
12:2 AndHe he killed James the brother of John with the sword;
12:3 Andand when he saw that it pleased the Jews he proceeded to seizearrest Peter also AndThis thosewas wereduring the days of unleavenedUnleavened breadBread
12:4 And when he had takenseized him he put him in prison and delivered him to four quaternionssquads of soldiers to guard him; intending after the Passover to bring him forthout to the people
12:5 So Peter therefore was kept in the prison:; but earnest prayer for him was made earnestlyto ofGod by the church unto God for him
12:6 AndThe very night when Herod was about to bring him forthout the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers bound with two chains: and guardssentries before the door keptwere guarding the prison;
12:7 Andand behold an angel of the Lord stoodappeared by him and a light shinedshone in the cell:; and he smotestruck Peter on the side and awokewoke him saying RiseGet up quickly And histhe chains fell off from his hands

13:35 BecauseTherefore he saithsays also in another psalm Thou wilt not givelet thy Holy One to see corruption
13:36 For David after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God in his own generation fell asleep and was laid untowith his fathers and saw corruption:;
13:38 BeLet it be known untoto you therefore brethren that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed untoto you remission of sins:
13:39 and by him every one that believethbelieves is justifiedfreed from alleverything things from which yeyou could not be justifiedfreed by the law of Moses
13:40 Beware therefore lest thatthere come upon you whichwhat is spokensaid in the prophets:
13:41 Behold yeyou despisersscoffers and wonder and perish; Forfor I workdo a workdeed in your days Aa workdeed whichyou yewill shallnever in no wise believe if one declaredeclares it untoto you
13:42 AndAs as they went out theythe besoughtpeople begged that these wordsthings might be spokentold to them the next sabbath
13:43 NowAnd when the meeting of the synagogue broke up many of the Jews and ofdevout theconverts devoutto proselytesJudaism followed Paul and Barnabas; who speakingspoke to them and urged them to continue in the grace of God
13:44 AndThe the next sabbath almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God
13:45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes they were filled with jealousy and contradicted thewhat thingswas which were spoken by Paul and blasphemedreviled him
13:46 And Paul and Barnabas spakespoke out boldly andsaying said It was necessary that the word of God should first be spoken first to you SeeingSince yeyou thrust it from you and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life lobehold we turn to the Gentiles
13:47 For so hath the Lord has commanded us saying I have set theeyou forto be a light offor the Gentiles Thatthat thouyou shouldestmay bebring for salvation untoto the uttermost partparts of the earth
13:48 And aswhen the Gentiles heard this they were glad and glorified the word of God:; and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed
13:49 And the word of the Lord was spread abroad throughout all the region
13:50 But the Jews urgedincited on the devout women of honorablehigh estatestanding and the chiefleading men of the city and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas and castdrove them out of their bordersdistrict
13:51 But they shook off the dust offrom their feet against them and camewent untoto IconiumIco′nium
14:1 AndNow itat cameIco′nium to pass in Iconium that they entered together into the Jewish synagogue of the Jews and so spakespoke that a great multitudecompany believed both of Jews and of Greeks believed
14:2 But the unbelieving Jews that were disobedient stirred up the souls of the Gentiles and madepoisoned themtheir evilminds affected against the brethren
14:3 LongSo timethey thereforeremained theyfor tarrieda therelong time speaking boldly infor the Lord who barebore witness untoto the word of his grace granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands
14:4 But the multitudepeople of the city waswere divided; andsome partsided held with the Jews and partsome with the apostles
14:5 AndWhen whenan thereattempt was made anby onset both of the Gentiles and of the Jews with their rulers to treatmolest them shamefully and to stone them
14:6 they becamelearned aware of it and fled untoto theLystra and Derbe cities of LycaoniaLycao′nia Lystra and Derbeto and the regionsurrounding roundcountry; about:
14:8 AndNow at Lystra there satwas a certain man impotentsitting inwho could not use his feet; he was a cripple from hisbirth motherswho wombhad who never had walked
14:9 TheHe samelistened heardto Paul speaking:; whoand fasteningPaul hislooking eyesintently uponat him and seeing that he had faith to be made wholewell
14:10 said within a loud voice Stand upright on thyyour feet And he leapedsprang up and walked
14:11 And when the multitudecrowds saw what Paul had done they lifted up their voicevoices saying in theLycao′nian speech of Lycaonia The gods arehave come down to us in the likeness of men
14:12 AndBarnabas they called BarnabasZeus Jupiter; and Paul Mercury because he was the chief speaker they called Hermes
14:13 And the priest of JupiterZeus whose temple was beforein front of the city brought oxen and garlands untoto the gates and wouldwanted haveto doneoffer sacrifice with the multitudespeople
14:14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of it they renttore their garments and sprangrushed forthout among the multitude crying out
14:15 andMen saying Sirs why doare yeyou thesedoing thingsthis We also are men of like passionsnature with you and bring you good tidingsnews that yeyou should turn from these vain things untoto a living God who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them is:
14:16 whoIn inpast the generations gonehe byallowed suffered all the nations to walk in their own ways;
14:17 And yet he leftdid not leave himself without witness infor that he did good and gave you from heaven rains and fruitful seasons fillingsatisfying your hearts with food and gladness
14:18 AndWith with these sayingswords scarcethey scarcely restrained they the multitudespeople from doingoffering sacrifice untoto them
14:19 But thereJews came Jewsthere thither from Antioch and Iconium:Ico′nium; and having persuaded the multitudespeople they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city supposing that he was dead
14:20 But aswhen the disciples stoodgathered round about him he rose up and entered into the city:; and on the morrownext day he went forthon with Barnabas to Derbe
14:21 AndWhen when they had preached the gospel to that city and had made many disciples they returned to Lystra and to IconiumIco′nium and to Antioch
14:22 confirmingstrengthening the souls of the disciples exhorting them to continue in the faith and saying that through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God
14:23 And when they had appointed elders for them elders in every church andwith hadprayer prayedand with fasting they commendedcommitted them to the Lord onin whom they had believed
14:24 AndThen they passed through PisidiaPisid′ia and came to PamphyliaPamphyl′ia
14:25 And when they had spoken the word in Perga they went down to AttaliaAttali′a;
14:26 and thencefrom there they sailed to Antioch fromwhere whence they had been committedcommended to the grace of God for the work which they had fulfilled
14:27 And when they werearrived comethey and had gathered the church together theyand rehearseddeclared all things that God had done with them and thathow he had opened a door of faith untoto the Gentiles
14:28 And they tarriedremained no little time with the disciples
15:1 AndBut certainsome men came down from JudaeaJudea and taughtwere teaching the brethren sayingUnless Exceptyou yeare be circumcised afteraccording to the custom of Moses yeyou cannot be saved
15:2 And when Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and questioningdebate with them the brethren appointed that Paul and Barnabas and certainsome other of themthe shouldothers were appointed to go up to Jerusalem untoto the apostles and the elders about this question
15:3 TheySo therefore being broughtsent on their way by the church they passed through both PhoeniciaPhoeni′cia and SamariaSamar′ia declaringreporting the conversion of the Gentiles: and they causedgave great joy untoto all the brethren
15:4 AndWhen when they werecame come to Jerusalem they were receivedwelcomed ofby the church and the apostles and the elders and they rehearseddeclared all things that God had done with them
15:5 But theresome rosebelievers upwho certainbelonged ofto the sectparty of the Pharisees whorose believedup sayingand said It is needfulnecessary to circumcise them and to charge them to keep the law of Moses
15:6 AndThe the apostles and the elders were gathered together to consider of this matter
15:7 And whenafter there had been much questioningdebate Peter rose up and said untoto them Brethren yeyou know that ain goodthe whileearly agodays God made choice among you that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe
15:8 And God who knowethknows the heart barebore witness to them witness giving them the Holy Spirit evenjust as he did untoto us;
15:9 and he made no distinction between us and them cleansingbut cleansed their hearts by faith
15:10 Now therefore why do you make ye trial of God thatby yeputting should put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we werehave been able to bear
15:11 But we believe that we shall be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus injust like manner as they will
15:12 And all the multitudeassembly kept silence; and they hearkenedlistened untoto Barnabas and Paul rehearsingas they related what signs and wonders God had wroughtdone through them among the Gentiles through them
15:13 AndAfter after they hadfinished heldspeaking their peace James answeredreplied saying Brethren hearkenlisten untoto me:
15:14 SymeonSimeon hathhas rehearsedrelated how God first God visited the Gentiles to take out of them a people for his name
15:15 And towith this agree the words of the prophets; agree as it is written
15:16 After thesethis things I will return Andand I will buildrebuild again the tabernacledwelling of David which ishas fallen; And I will buildrebuild againits the ruins thereofand And I will set it up:
15:17 Thatthat the residuerest of men may seek after the Lord Andand all the Gentiles uponwho whomare called by my name is called
15:18 Saithsays the Lord who makethhas made these things known from of old
15:19 WhereforeTherefore my judgment is that we troubleshould not themtrouble thatthose fromof among the Gentiles who turn to God;
15:20 but thatshould we write untoto them thatto they abstain from the pollutions of idols and from fornicationunchastity and from what is strangled and from blood
15:21 For Moses from early generations ofMoses oldhas hathhad in every city themthose thatwho preach him beingfor he is read every sabbath in the synagogues every sabbath
15:22 Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders with the whole church to choose men outfrom ofamong theirthem company and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namelyThey sent Judas called BarsabbasBarsab′bas and Silas chiefleading men among the brethren:
15:23 andwith theythe wrotefollowing thusletter: byThe thembrethren Theboth the apostles and the elders brethrento unto the brethren who are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and CiliciaCili′cia greeting:
15:24 ForasmuchSince as we have heard that certainsome whopersons went out from us have troubled you with words subvertingunsettling your souls;minds toalthough whom we gave them no commandment;instructions
15:25 it has seemed good untoto us having come to one accord to choose out men and send them untoto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul
15:26 men thatwho have hazardedrisked their lives for the namesake of our Lord Jesus Christ
15:27 We have therefore sent therefore Judas and Silas who themselves alsowill shall tell you the same things by word of mouth
15:28 For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things:
15:29 that yeyou abstain from thingswhat has been sacrificed to idols and from blood and from thingswhat is strangled and from fornication;unchastity fromIf whichyou if ye keep yourselves itfrom shallthese be well with you Farewill yedo well Farewell
15:30 So they when they were dismissedsent cameoff they went down to Antioch; and having gathered the multitudecongregation together they delivered the epistleletter
15:31 And when they had read it they rejoiced forat the consolationexhortation
15:32 And Judas and Silas beingwho were themselves also prophets exhorted the brethren with many words and confirmedstrengthened them
15:33 And after they had spent some time there they were dismissedsent off in peace fromby the brethren untoto those thatwho had sent them forth
15:35 But Paul and Barnabas tarriedremained in Antioch teaching and preaching the word of the Lord with many others also
15:36 And after some days Paul said untoto Barnabas LetCome let us return now and visit the brethren in every city whereinwhere we proclaimed the word of the Lord and see how they fareare
15:37 And Barnabas waswanted minded to take with them John also who was called Mark
15:38 But Paul thought best not good to take with them himone who withdrewhad withdrawn from them fromin PamphyliaPamphyl′ia and wenthad not gone with them to the work
15:39 And there arose a sharp contention so that they partedseparated asunder one from theeach other; and Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away untoto Cyprus:
15:40 but Paul chose Silas and wentdeparted forth being commended by the brethren to the grace of the Lord
15:41 And he went through Syria and CiliciaCili′cia confirmingstrengthening the churches
16:1 And he came also to Derbe and to Lystra: andA behold a certain disciple was there named Timothy the son of a JewessJewish thatwoman believedwho was a believer; but his father was a Greek
16:2 TheHe same was well reportedspoken of by the brethren that were at Lystra and IconiumIco′nium
16:3 HimPaul wouldwanted PaulTimothy have to goaccompany forth with him; and he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews that were in those parts:places for they all knew that his father was a Greek
16:4 AndAs as they went on their way through the cities they delivered to them thefor decreesobservance tothe keepdecisions which had been ordainedreached ofby the apostles and elders thatwho were at Jerusalem
16:5 So the churches were strengthened in the faith and they increased in numbernumbers daily
16:6 And they went through the region of PhrygiaPhry′gia and Galatia having been forbidden ofby the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia;
16:7 andAnd when they werehad come overopposite againstMy′sia Mysia they assayedattempted to go into Bithynia;Bithyn′ia andbut the Spirit of Jesus suffereddid not allow them not;
16:8 andso passing by MysiaMy′sia they camewent down to TroasTro′as
16:9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: There was a man of MacedoniaMacedo′nia was standing beseeching him and saying Come over intoto MacedoniaMacedo′nia and help us
16:10 And when he had seen the vision straightwayimmediately we sought to go forthon into MacedoniaMacedo′nia concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel untoto them
16:11 Setting sail therefore from TroasTro′as we made a straightdirect coursevoyage to SamothraceSam′othrace and the following day following to Neapolis;Ne ap′olis
16:12 and from thencethere to Philippi which is athe leading city of Macedonia the firstdistrict of theMacedo′nia districtand a Roman colony: andWe weremained were in this city tarryingsome certain days;
16:13 Andand on the sabbath day we went forthoutside without the gate byto athe riverriverside side where we supposed there was a place of prayer; and we sat down and spakespoke untoto the women thatwho werehad come together
16:14 AndOne who heard us was a certain woman named Lydia afrom sellerthe city of purpleThyati′ra ofa theseller city of Thyatirapurple onegoods thatwho worshippedwas Goda heardworshiper us:of whoseGod heartThe the Lord opened her heart to give heed untoto thewhat thingswas whichsaid were spoken by Paul
16:15 And when she was baptized andwith her household she besought us saying If yeyou have judged me to be faithful to the Lord come intoto my house and abidestay there And she constrainedprevailed upon us
16:16 AndAs it came to pass as we were going to the place of prayer thatwe were met by a certainslave maidgirl havingwho had a spirit of divination metand us who brought her mastersowners much gain by soothsaying
16:17 TheShe samefollowed following after Paul and us criedcrying out saying These men are servants of the Most High God who proclaim untoto you the way of salvation
16:18 And this she did for many days But Paul beingwas soreannoyed troubledand turned and said to the spirit I charge theeyou in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her And it came out that very hour
16:19 But when her mastersowners saw that thetheir hope of their gain was gone they laidseized hold on Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplacemarket place before the rulers;
16:20 and when they had brought them untoto the magistrates they said These men beingare Jews doand exceedinglythey troubleare disturbing our city
16:21 andThey setadvocate forth customs which it is not lawful for us Romans to receiveaccept or topractice observe being Romans
16:22 AndThe thecrowd multitudejoined rosein upattacking together against them:; and the magistrates renttore theirthe garments off them and commandedgave orders to beat them with rods
16:23 And when they had laidinflicted many stripesblows upon them they castthrew them into prison charging the jailorjailer to keep them safely:
16:24 whoHaving having received suchthis a charge casthe put them into the inner prison and madefastened their feet fast in the stocks
16:25 But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns untoto God and the prisoners were listening to them;
16:26 and suddenly there was a great earthquake so that the foundations of the prison house were shaken:; and immediately all the doors were opened; and every ones bandsfetters were loosedunfastened
16:27 AndWhen the jailorjailer beingwoke rousedand outsaw ofthat sleep and seeing the prison doors were open he drew his sword and was about to kill himself supposing that the prisoners had escaped
16:28 But Paul cried with a loud voice saying Do thyselfnot no harm: yourself for we are all here
16:29 And he called for lights and sprangrushed in and trembling forwith fear he fell down before Paul and Silas
16:30 and brought them out and said SirsMen what must I do to be saved
16:31 And they said Believe onin the Lord Jesus and thouyou shaltwill be saved thouyou and thyyour househousehold
16:32 And they spakespoke the word of the Lord untoto him withand to all that were in his house
16:33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes;wounds and he was baptized heat andonce with all his immediatelyfamily
16:34 AndThen he brought them up into his house and set food before them; and he rejoiced greatly with all his househousehold havingthat he had believed in God
16:35 But when it was day the magistrates sent the serjeantspolice saying Let those men go
16:36 And the jailorjailer reported the words to Paul saying The magistrates have sent to let you go:; now therefore come forthout and go in peace
16:37 But Paul said untoto them They have beaten us publicly uncondemned men thatwho are RomansRoman citizens and have castthrown us into prison; and do they now cast us out privilysecretly nayNo verily; but let them come themselves and bringtake us out
16:38 AndThe thepolice serjeants reported these words untoto the magistrates: and they fearedwere afraid when they heard that they were RomansRoman citizens;
16:39 andso they came and besoughtapologized to them; andAnd when they hadtook brought them out theyand asked them to goleave away from the city
16:40 AndSo they went out of the prison and enteredvisited into the house of Lydia:; and when they had seen the brethren they comfortedexhorted them and departed
17:1 Now when they had passed through AmphipolisAmphip′olis and ApolloniaApollo′nia they came to ThessalonicaThessaloni′ca where there was a synagogue of the Jews:
17:2 andAnd Paul aswent hisin customas was wenthis incustom unto them and for three sabbathweeks dayshe reasonedargued with them from the scriptures
17:3 openingexplaining and allegingproving that it behoovedwas necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise again from the dead; and thatsaying thisThis Jesus whom said he I proclaim untoto you is the Christ
17:4 And some of them were persuaded and consortedjoined with Paul and Silas; andas did a great many of the devout Greeks aand greatnot multitudea andfew of the chiefleading women not a few
17:5 But the Jews beingwere movedjealous withand jealousytaking tooksome untowicked them certain vile fellows of the rabble andthey gatheringgathered a crowd set the city onin an uproar; and assaultingattacked the house of Jason theyseeking sought to bring them forthout to the people
17:6 And when they foundcould not find them not they dragged Jason and certainsome brethrenof before the rulersbrethren ofbefore the city authorities crying These thatmen who have turned the world upside down arehave come hitherhere also;
17:7 whomand Jason hathhas received: them; and thesethey are all actacting contraryagainst to the decrees of Caesar saying that there is another king one Jesus
17:8 And they troubled the multitudepeople and the rulerscity ofauthorities thewere citydisturbed when they heard thesethis things
17:10 AndThe the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas away by night untoto Beroea:Beroe′a; whoand when they werearrived comethey thither went into the Jewish synagogue of the Jews
17:11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in ThessalonicaThessaloni′ca infor that they received the word with all readinesseagerness of mind examining the scriptures daily whetherto see if these things were so
17:12 Many of them therefore believed; alsowith ofnot thea few Greek women of honorablehigh estatestanding andas ofwell as men not a few
17:13 But when the Jews of ThessalonicaThessaloni′ca hadlearned knowledge that the word of God was proclaimed ofby Paul at BeroeaBeroe′a also they came thitherthere likewisetoo stirring up and troublinginciting the multitudescrowds
17:14 AndThen then immediately the brethren immediately sent forth Paul tooff goon ashis farway as to the sea: andbut Silas and Timothy aboderemained there still
17:15 ButThose theywho that conducted Paul brought him as far as Athens:; and receiving a commandmentcommand untofor Silas and Timothy thatto they should come to him withas allsoon speedas possible they departed
17:16 Now while Paul waitedwas waiting for them at Athens his spirit was provoked within him as he beheldsaw that the city was full of idols
17:17 So he reasonedargued in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons and in the marketplacemarket place every day with themthose thatwho metchanced himto be there
17:18 AndSome certain also of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encounteredmet him And some said What would this babbler say othersOthers said He seemethseems to be a setterpreacher forth of strangeforeign gods: divinities—because he preached Jesus and the resurrection
17:19 And they took hold of him and brought him untoto the AreopagusAre op′agus saying May we know what this new teaching is which isyou spokenpresent by thee
17:20 For thouyou bringestbring certainsome strange things to our ears:; we wouldwish to know therefore what these things mean
17:21 Now all the Athenians and the strangersforeigners sojourningwho lived there spent their time in nothing elseexcept buttelling either to tell or tohearing hearsomething some new thing
17:22 AndSo Paul stoodstanding in the midstmiddle of the AreopagusAre andop′agus said: YeMen men of Athens in all things I perceive that yein every way you are very religious
17:23 For as I passed along and observed the objects of your worship I found also an altar with this inscription To an Unknownunknown Godgod What therefore yeyou worship inas ignoranceunknown this I setproclaim forthto unto you
17:24 The God thatwho made the world and alleverything thingsin thereinit he being Lord of heaven and earth dwellethdoes not live in templesshrines made withby hands;man
17:25 neithernor is he served by menshuman hands as though he needed anything seeingsince he himself givethgives to all men life and breath and alleverything things;
17:26 andAnd he made offrom one every nation of men to dwelllive on all the face of the earth having determined theirallotted appointedperiods seasons and the boundsboundaries of their habitation;
17:27 that they should seek God ifin haplythe hope that they might feel after him and find him thoughYet he is not far from each one of us:
17:28 for inIn him we live and move and have our being; as certain even some of your own poets have said For we are alsoindeed his offspring
17:29 Being then theGods offspring of God we ought not to think that the GodheadDeity is like unto gold or silver or stone gravena representation by the art and deviceimagination of man
17:30 The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked; but now he commandethcommands all men thateverywhere theyto should all everywhere repent:
17:31 inasmuchbecause as he hathhas appointedfixed a day inon which he will judge the world in righteousness by thea man whom he hathhas ordained;appointed whereofand of this he hathhas given assurance untoto all men inby thatraising he hath raised him from the dead
17:32 Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead some mocked; but others said We will hear theeyou concerningagain about this yet again
17:33 ThusSo Paul went out from among them
17:34 But certainsome men clavejoined unto him and believed: among whomthem alsoDionys′ius wasthe DionysiusAre theop′agite Areopagite and a woman named DamarisDam′aris and others with them
18:1 After thesethis things he departedleft from Athens and camewent to Corinth
18:2 And he found a certain Jew named AquilaAq′uila a mannative of Pontus by race lately come from Italy with his wife Priscilla because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to departleave from Rome: andAnd he camewent untoto see them;
18:3 and because he was of the same trade he abodestayed with them and they wrought;worked for by their trade they were tentmakers
18:4 And he reasonedargued in the synagogue every sabbath and persuaded Jews and Greeks
18:5 ButWhen when Silas and Timothy camearrived down from MacedoniaMacedo′nia Paul was constrainedoccupied bywith thepreaching word testifying to the Jews that Jesusthe Christ was theJesus Christ
18:6 And when they opposed themselves and blasphemedreviled him he shook out his raimentgarments and said untoto them Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean:innocent fromFrom henceforthnow on I will go untoto the Gentiles
18:7 And he departedleft thencethere and went intoto the house of a certain man named TitusTitius Justus onea thatworshiper worshippedof God; whosehis house joinedwas hardnext door to the synagogue
18:8 And Crispus the ruler of the synagogue believed in the Lord together with all his househousehold; and many of the Corinthians hearing Paul believed and were baptized
18:9 And the Lord said untoto Paul inone the night byin a vision BeDo not be afraid but speak and holddo not thybe peace:silent;
18:10 for I am with theeyou and no man shall setattack onyou thee to harm thee:you; for I have muchmany people in this city
18:11 And he dweltstayed there a year and six months teaching the word of God among them
18:12 But when Gallio was proconsul of AchaiaAcha′ia the Jews withmade onea accordunited roseattack upupon against Paul and brought him before the judgmenttribunal seat
18:13 saying This man persuadethis persuading men to worship God contrary to the law
18:14 But when Paul was about to open his mouth Gallio said untoto the Jews If indeed it were a matter of wrongwrongdoing or ofvicious wickedcrime villanyI Oshould yehave Jews reason wouldto that I should bear with you: O Jews;
18:15 but ifsince theyit areis a matter of questions about words and names and your own law looksee to it yourselves; I amrefuse not minded to be a judge of these mattersthings
18:16 And he drove them from the judgmenttribunal seat
18:17 And they all laidseized holdSos′thenes on Sosthenes the ruler of the synagogue and beat him beforein front of the judgmenttribunal seatBut And Gallio caredpaid forno noneattention ofto these thingsthis
18:18 AndAfter this Paul havingstayed tarriedmany afterdays thislonger yetand manythen days took his leave of the brethren and sailed thence for Syria and with him Priscilla and Aquila:Aq′uila havingAt shornCen′chre hisae headhe incut Cenchreae;his hair for he had a vow
18:19 And they came to Ephesus and he left them there:; but he himself enteredwent into the synagogue and reasonedargued with the Jews
18:20 AndWhen when they asked him to abidestay for a longer timeperiod he consented notdeclined;
18:21 but on taking his leave of them andhe sayingsaid I will return againto unto you if God willwills and he set sail from Ephesus
18:22 AndWhen when he had landed at CaesareaCaesare′a he went up and salutedgreeted the church and then went down to Antioch
18:23 AndAfter havingspending spent some time there he departed and went from place to place through the region of Galatia and PhrygiaPhryg′ia instrengthening order establishing all the disciples
18:24 Now a certain Jew named ApollosApol′los ana Alexandriannative byof raceAlexandria an eloquent man came to Ephesus; andHe he was mightyan eloquent man well versed in the scriptures
18:25 ThisHe man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit he spakespoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus knowingthough he knew only the baptism of John:
18:26 andHe he began to speak boldly in the synagogue; Butbut when Priscilla and AquilaAq′uila heard him they took him unto them and expounded untoto him the way of God more accurately
18:27 And when he waswished minded to passcross overto intoAcha′ia Achaia the brethren encouraged him and wrote to the disciples to receive him: andWhen when he wasarrived come he greatly helped themthose muchwho thatthrough grace had believed through grace;
18:28 for he powerfully confuted the Jews andin thatpublic publicly showing by the scriptures that Jesusthe Christ was the ChristJesus
19:1 AndWhile itApol′los came to pass that while Apollos was at Corinth Paul having passed through the upper country and came to Ephesus andThere he found certainsome disciples:
19:2 andAnd he said untoto them Did yeyou receive the Holy Spirit when yeyou believed And they said untoNo him Nay we didhave notnever soeven muchheard asthat hearthere whetheris thea Holy Spirit was given
19:3 And he said Into what then were yeyou baptized AndThey they said Into Johns baptism
19:4 And Paul said John baptized with the baptism of repentance sayingtelling unto the people thatto theybelieve shouldin believethe onone himwho thatwas shouldto come after him that is on Jesus
19:5 AndOn whenhearing they heard this they were baptized intoin the name of the Lord Jesus
19:6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them the Holy Spirit came on them; and they spakespoke with tongues and prophesied
19:7 AndThere they were in all about twelve menof them in all
19:8 And he entered into the synagogue and spake boldly for the space of three months reasoningspoke andboldly persuadingarguing asand topleading theabout things concerning the kingdom of God;
19:9 Butbut when some were hardenedstubborn and disobedientdisbelieved speaking evil of the Way before the multitudecongregation he departedwithdrew from them andtaking separated the disciples reasoningwith him and argued daily in the schoolhall of TyrannusTyran′nus
19:10 AndThis this continued for the space of two years; so that all theythe thatresidents dweltof in Asia heard the word of the Lord both Jews and Greeks
19:11 And God wroughtdid specialextraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul:
19:12 insomuchso that untohandkerchiefs theor sickaprons were carried away from his body handkerchiefsto orthe apronssick and the diseases departedleft from them and the evil spirits wentcame out of them
19:13 ButThen certainsome also of the strollingitinerant JewsJewish exorcists tookundertook uponto thempronounce tothe name overof them that had the evilLord spiritsJesus theover namethose ofwho thehad Lordevil Jesusspirits saying I adjure you by the Jesus whom Paul preachethpreaches
19:14 AndSeven there were seven sons of onea ScevaJewish ahigh Jewpriest anamed chiefSceva priestwere whodoing did this
19:15 AndBut the evil spirit answered and said unto them Jesus I know and Paul I know; but who are yeyou
19:16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them and mastered bothall of them and prevailedoverpowered against them so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded
19:17 And this became known to all residents of Ephesus both Jews and Greeks that dwelt at Ephesus; and fear fell upon them all; and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnifiedextolled
19:18 Many also of themthose thatwho hadwere believednow believers came confessing and declaringdivulging their deedspractices
19:19 And not a fewnumber of themthose thatwho practisedpracticed magicalmagic arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all; and they counted the pricevalue of them and found it came to fifty thousand pieces of silver
19:20 So mightily grew the word of the Lord grew and prevailed mightily
19:21 Now after these thingsevents were ended Paul purposedresolved in the spiritSpirit whento hepass had passed through MacedoniaMacedo′nia and AchaiaAcha′ia toand go to Jerusalem saying After I have been there I must also see Rome
19:22 And having sent into MacedoniaMacedo′nia two of themhis thathelpers ministered unto him Timothy and ErastusEras′tus he himself stayed in Asia for a while
19:23 AndAbout about that time there arose no smalllittle stir concerning the Way
19:24 For a certain man named DemetriusDeme′trius a silversmith who made silver shrines of DianaAr′temis brought no little business untoto the craftsmen;
19:25 whomThese he gathered together with the workmen of like occupation and said SirsMen yeyou know that byfrom this business we have our wealth
19:26 And yeyou see and hear that not aloneonly at Ephesus but almost throughout all Asia this Paul hathhas persuaded and turned away mucha considerable company of people saying that theygods aremade nowith godshands that are madenot withgods hands:
19:27 andAnd notthere only is there danger not only that this our trade of ours may come into disrepute; but also that the temple of the great goddess DianaAr′temis bemay madecount offor nonothing account and that she shouldmay even be deposed from her magnificence she whom all Asia and the world worshippeth worship
19:28 AndWhen when they heard this they were filledenraged with wrath and cried out saying Great is DianaAr′temis of the Ephesians
19:29 AndSo the city was filled with the confusion:; and they rushed withtogether one accord into the theatretheater havingdragging seizedwith Gaiusthem Ga′ius and AristarchusAristar′chus menMacedo′nians ofwho Macedoniawere Pauls companions in travel
19:30 And when Paul waswished minded to entergo in untoamong the peoplecrowd but the disciples sufferedwould not let him; not
19:31 Andsome certainof the A′si archs also ofwho thewere Asiarchsfriends beingof his friends sent untoto him and besoughtbegged him not to adventureventure himself into the theatretheater
19:32 SomeNow thereforesome cried one thing and some another:; for the assembly was in confusion; and themost moreof partthem knewdid not whereforeknow why they werehad come together
19:33 AndSome theyof broughtthe Alexandercrowd outprompted ofAlexander thewhom multitude the Jews puttinghad himput forward And Alexander beckonedmotioned with thehis hand andwishing wouldto havemake made a defencedefense untoto the people
19:34 But when they perceivedrecognized that he was a Jew allfor withabout onetwo voicehours aboutthey theall spacewith ofone twovoice hours cried out Great is DianaAr′temis of the Ephesians
19:35 And when the townclerktown clerk had quieted the multitudecrowd he saithsaid YeMen men of Ephesus what man is there who knowethdoes not know that the city of the Ephesians is temple keeper of the great DianaAr′temis and of the imagesacred whichstone that fell down from Jupiterthe sky
19:36 Seeing then that these things cannot be gainsaidcontradicted yeyou ought to be quiet and to do nothing rash
19:37 For yeyou have brought hither these men here who are neither robberssacrilegious of temples nor blasphemers of our goddess
19:38 If therefore DemetriusDeme′trius and the craftsmen that are with him have a mattercomplaint against any manone the courts are open and there are proconsuls:; let them accusebring charges against one another
19:39 But if yeyou seek anything aboutfurther other matters it shall be settled in the regular assembly
19:40 For indeed we are in danger toof bebeing accusedcharged concerningwith thisrioting daystoday riot there being no cause forthat it: and as touching it we shallcan notgive be able to givejustify account of this concoursecommotion
19:41 And when he had thussaid spokenthis he dismissed the assembly
20:1 AndAfter after the uproar ceased Paul having sent for the disciples and having exhorted them took leave of them and departed tofor goMacedo′nia into Macedonia
20:2 AndWhen when he had gone through thosethese parts and had given them much exhortationencouragement he came intoto Greece
20:3 AndThere when he had spent three months there and when a plot was laidmade against him by the Jews as he was about to set sail for Syria he determined to return through MacedoniaMacedo′nia
20:4 AndSop′ater there accompanied him as far as Asia Sopater of BeroeaBeroe′a the son of Pyrrhus accompanied him; and of the ThessaloniansThessalo′nians AristarchusAristar′chus and SecundusSecun′dus; and GaiusGa′ius of Derbe and Timothy; and ofthe AsiaAsians TychicusTych′icus and TrophimusTroph′imus
20:5 ButThese thesewent hadon gone before and were waiting for us at TroasTro′as
20:6 Andbut we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavenedUnleavened breadBread and camein untofive themdays we came to Troasthem inat fiveTro′as days; where we tarriedstayed for seven days
20:7 AndOn upon the first day of the week when we were gathered together to break bread Paul discoursedtalked with them intending to depart on the morrow; and he prolonged his speech until midnight
20:8 AndThere there were many lights in the upper chamber where we were gathered together
20:9 And therea satyoung inman thenamed windowEu′tychus awas certainsitting youngin manthe namedwindow EutychusHe bornesank downinto witha deep sleep; and as Paul discoursedtalked yetstill longer; and being borneovercome down by his sleep he fell down from the third story and was taken up dead
20:10 AndBut Paul went down and fellbent onover him and embracing him said MakeDo yenot nobe ado;alarmed for his life is in him
20:11 And when hePaul washad gone up and had broken the bread and eaten andhe hadconversed talked with them a long while evenuntil tilldaybreak breakand of day so he departed
20:12 And they broughttook the lad away alive and were not a little comforted
20:13 But we going beforeahead to the ship we set sail for Assos there intending to take in Paul: aboard there; for so he had hearranged appointed intending himself to go by land
20:14 And when he met us at Assos we took him inon board and came to MityleneMityle′ne
20:15 And sailing from thencethere we came the following day overopposite against ChiosChi′os; and the next day we touched at Samos; and the day after that we came to MiletusMile′tus
20:16 For Paul had determineddecided to sail past Ephesus so that he might not have to spend time in Asia; for he was hastening if it were possible for him to be at Jerusalem if possible on the day of Pentecost
20:17 And from MiletusMile′tus he sent to Ephesus and called to him the elders of the church
20:18 And when they werecame come to him he said untoto them: YeYou yourselves know how I lived among you all the time from the first day that I set foot in Asia after what manner I was with you all the time
20:19 serving the Lord with all lowlinesshumility of mind and with tears and with trials which befell me bythrough the plots of the Jews;
20:20 how I shrankdid not shrink from declaring untoto you anything that was profitable and teaching you publiclyin public and from house to house
20:21 testifying both to Jews and to Greeks of repentance towardto God and of faith towardin our Lord Jesus Christ
20:22 And now behold I goam going to Jerusalem bound in the spiritSpirit unto Jerusalem not knowing thewhat things that shall befall me there:;
20:23 saveexcept that the Holy Spirit testifiethtestifies untoto me in every city saying that bondsimprisonment and afflictions abideawait me
20:24 But I holddo not account my life of any accountvalue nor as dearprecious untoto myself soif thatonly I may accomplish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus to testify to the gospel of the grace of God
20:25 And now behold I know that ye all you among whom I wenthave aboutgone preaching the kingdom shallwill see my face no more
20:26 WhereforeTherefore I testify untoto you this day that I am pureinnocent fromof the blood of all menof you
20:27 Forfor I shrankdid not shrink from declaring untoto you the whole counsel of God
20:28 Take heed untoto yourselves and to all the flock in which the Holy Spirit hathhas made you bishopsoverseers to feedcare for the church of theGod Lord which he purchasedobtained with the blood of his own bloodSon
20:29 I know that after my departingdeparture grievousfierce wolves shallwill entercome in among you not sparing the flock;
20:30 and from among your own selves shallwill arise men arise speaking perverse things to draw away the disciples after them
20:31 WhereforeTherefore watchbe yealert remembering that byfor the space of three years I ceaseddid not cease night or day to admonish every one night and day with tears
20:32 And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all themthose thatwho are sanctified
20:33 I coveted no mansones silver or gold or apparel
20:34 YeYou yourselves know that these hands ministered untoto my necessities and to themthose thatwho were with me
20:35 In all things I gavehave shown you anthat exampleby that so laboringtoiling yeone oughtmust to help the weak andremembering to remember the words of the Lord Jesus thathow he himself said It is more blessed to give than to receive
20:36 And when he had spoken thus spoken he kneeledknelt down and prayed with them all
20:37 And they all wept sore and fellembraced onPaul Pauls neck and kissed him
20:38 sorrowing most of all forbecause of the word which he had spoken that they should beholdsee his face no more And they brought him onto his way unto the ship
21:1 And when it came to pass that we werehad parted from them and had set sail we came withby a straight course untoto Cos and the next day untoto Rhodes and from thencethere untoto Patara:Pat′ara
21:2 andAnd having found a ship crossing overto untoPhoeni′cia Phoenicia we went aboard and set sail
21:3 AndWhen when we had come in sight of Cyprus leaving it on the left hand we sailed untoto Syria and landed at Tyre; for there the ship was to unladeunload herits burdencargo
21:4 And having foundsought out the disciples we tarriedstayed there for seven days: andThrough these said to Paul through the Spirit thatthey hetold shouldPaul not setto footgo inon to Jerusalem
21:5 And when itour camedays tothere passwere thatended we had accomplished the days we departed and went on our journey; and they all with wives and children brought us on our way till we were outoutside of the city:; and kneeling down on the beach we prayed and bade eachone otheranother farewell;
21:6 andThen we went on board the ship butand they returned home again
21:7 AndWhen when we had finished the voyage from Tyre we arrived at PtolemaisPtolema′is; and we salutedgreeted the brethren and abodestayed with them for one day
21:8 AndOn on the morrow we departed and came untoto Caesarea:Caesare′a; and enteringwe intoentered the house of Philip the evangelist who was one of the seven weand abodestayed with him
21:9 NowAnd thishe man had four virginunmarried daughters who prophesied
21:10 AndWhile as we tarriedwere therestaying for some days therea prophet named Ag′abus came down from JudaeaJudea a certain prophet named Agabus
21:11 And coming to us andhe takingtook Pauls girdle heand bound his own feet and hands and said Thus saithsays the Holy Spirit So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man thatwho ownethowns this girdle and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles
21:12 AndWhen when we heard thesethis things both we and theythe ofpeople thatthere placebegged besought him not to go up to Jerusalem
21:13 Then Paul answered What doare yeyou doing weeping and breaking my heart forFor I am ready not only to be boundimprisoned only but alsoeven to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus
21:14 And when he would not be persuaded we ceased sayingand said The will of the Lord be done
21:15 AndAfter after these days we tookmade upready our baggage and went up to Jerusalem
21:16 And theresome went with us also certain of the disciples from CaesareaCaesare′a bringingwent with themus onebringing us to the house of Mnason of Cyprus an early disciple with whom we should lodge
21:17 AndWhen when we werehad come to Jerusalem the brethren received us gladly
21:18 AndOn the following day following Paul went in with us untoto James; and all the elders were present
21:19 AndAfter whengreeting he had saluted them he rehearsedrelated one by one the things whichthat God had wroughtdone among the Gentiles through his ministry
21:20 And they when they heard it they glorified God; andAnd they said untoto him ThouYou seestsee brother how many thousands there are among the Jews of themthose thatwho have believed; and they are all zealous for the law:
21:21 and they have been informedtold concerningabout theeyou that thouyou teachestteach all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses telling them not to circumcise their children neitheror toobserve walk after the customs
21:22 What then is itto thereforebe theydone They will certainly hear that thouyou arthave come
21:23 Do therefore thiswhat that we saytell toyou thee: We have four men thatwho haveare under a vow on them;
21:24 take these takemen and purify thyselfyourself along with them and bepay attheir chargesexpenses forso them that they may shave their heads: andThus all shallwill know that there is nonothing truth in thewhat things whereof they have been informedtold concerningabout thee;you but that thouyou thyselfyourself alsolive walkestin orderlyobservance keepingof the law
21:25 But as touchingfor the Gentiles thatwho have believed we wrotehave givingsent a letter with our judgment that they should keepabstain themselves from thingswhat has been sacrificed to idols and from blood and from what is strangled and from fornicationunchastity
21:26 Then Paul took the men and the next day purifyinghe purified himself with them and went into the temple declaringto thegive fulfilmentnotice ofwhen the days of purification untilwould be fulfilled and the offering waspresented offered for every one of them
21:27 AndWhen when the seven days were almost completed the Jews from Asia whenwho theyhad sawseen him in the temple stirred up all the multitudecrowd and laid hands on him
21:28 crying out Men of Israel help: This is the man thatwho teachethis allteaching men everywhere against the people and the law and this place; and moreover he also brought Greeks also into the temple and hathhe has defiled this holy place
21:29 For they had beforepreviously seen Troph′imus the Ephesian with him in the city Trophimusand the Ephesian whom they supposed that Paul had brought him into the temple
21:30 AndThen all the city was movedaroused and the people ran together; and they laidseized hold on Paul and dragged him out of the temple: and straightwayat once the doorsgates were shut
21:31 And as they were seekingtrying to kill him tidingsword came up to the chieftribune captain of the bandcohort that all Jerusalem was in confusion
21:32 AndHe forthwithat heonce took soldiers and centurions and ran down uponto them:; and they when they saw the chieftribune captain and the soldiers leftthey offstopped beating Paul
21:33 Then the chieftribune captain came nearup and laidarrested hold on him and commandedordered him to be bound with two chains; andHe inquired who he was and what he had done
21:34 AndSome somein the crowd shouted one thing some another; among the crowd: and whenas he could not knowlearn the certaintyfacts forbecause of the uproar he commandedordered him to be brought into the castlebarracks
21:35 And when he came uponto the stairssteps sohe it was thatactually hecarried wasby borne of the soldiers forbecause of the violence of the crowd;
21:36 for the multitudemob of the people followed after crying out Away with him
21:37 AndAs as Paul was about to be brought into the castlebarracks he saithsaid untoto the chieftribune captain May I say something untoto theeyou And he said DostDo thouyou know Greek
21:38 ArtAre thouyou not then the Egyptian then who beforerecently these days stirred up toa seditionrevolt and led out into the wilderness the four thousand men of the Assassins out into the wilderness
21:39 But Paul saidreplied I am a Jew offrom Tarsus in CiliciaCili′cia a citizen of no mean city:; and I beseechbeg theeyou givelet me leavespeak to speak unto the people
21:40 And when he had given him leave Paul standing on the stairssteps beckonedmotioned with thehis hand untoto the people; and when there was made a great silencehush he spakespoke untoto them in the Hebrew language saying:
22:1 Brethren and fathers hear ye the defencedefense which I now make untobefore you
22:2 And when they heard that he spakeaddressed unto them in the Hebrew language they were the more quiet: andAnd he saithsaid:
22:3 I am a Jew born inat Tarsus ofin CiliciaCili′cia but brought up in this city at the feet of GamalielGama′li instructedel educated according to the strict manner of the law of our fathers being zealous for God even as yeyou all are this day:
22:4 and I persecuted this Way untoto the death binding and delivering intoto prisonsprison both men and women
22:5 Asas also the high priest doth bear me witness and all the estatewhole council of the elders: frombear whomme alsowitness From them I received letters untoto the brethren and I journeyed to Damascus to bringtake themthose also thatwho were there untoand Jerusalembring them in bonds to Jerusalem to be punished
22:6 AndAs it came to pass that as I made my journey and drew nighnear untoto Damascus about noon suddenlya theregreat shonelight from heaven asuddenly greatshone light round about me
22:7 And I fell untoto the ground and heard a voice saying untoto me Saul Saul why persecutestdo thouyou persecute me
22:8 And I answered Who artare thouyou Lord And he said untoto me I am Jesus of Nazareth whom thouyou persecutestare persecuting
22:9 AndNow theythose thatwho were with me beheldsaw indeed the light but theydid heard not hear the voice of himthe thatone spakewho was speaking to me
22:10 And I said What shall I do Lord And the Lord said untoto me AriseRise and go into Damascus; and there ityou shallwill be told thee of all thingsthat whichis are appointed for theeyou to do
22:11 And when I could not see forbecause of the glorybrightness of that light beingI was led by the hand ofby themthose thatwho were with me Iand came into Damascus
22:12 And one AnaniasAnani′as a devout man according to the law well reportedspoken of by all the Jews thatwho dweltlived there
22:13 came untoto me and standing by me said untoto me Brother Saul receive thyyour sight And in that very hour I lookedreceived upmy onsight and saw him
22:14 And he said The God of our fathers hath appointed theeyou to know his will and to see the RighteousJust One and to hear a voice from his mouth;
22:15 Forfor thouyou shaltwill be a witness for him untoto all men of what thouyou hasthave seen and heard
22:16 And now why tarriestdo thouyou arisewait Rise and be baptized and wash away thyyour sins calling on his name
22:17 AndWhen it came to pass that when I had returned to Jerusalem and whilewas Ipraying prayed in the temple I fell into a trance
22:18 and saw him saying untoto me Make haste and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem; because they will not receiveaccept ofyour thee testimony concerningabout me
22:19 And I said Lord they themselves know that in every synagogue I imprisoned and beat inthose everywho synagogue them that believed onin thee:
22:20 andAnd when the blood of Stephen thy witness was shed I also was standing by and consentingapproving and keeping the garments of themthose thatwho slewkilled him
22:21 And he said untoto me Depart:; for I will send theeyou forth far henceaway untoto the Gentiles
22:22 AndUp theyto gavethis himword audiencethey untolistened thisto wordhim; andthen they lifted up their voicevoices and said Away with such a fellow from the earth: forFor ithe isought not fitto that he should live
22:23 And as they cried out and threwwaved off their garments and castthrew dust into the air
22:24 the chieftribune captain commanded him to be brought into the castlebarracks biddingand thatordered hehim shouldto be examined by scourging thatto hefind mightout knowwhy for what cause they so shouted thus against him
22:25 AndBut when they had tied him up with the thongs Paul said untoto the centurion thatwho stoodwas standing by Is it lawful for you to scourge a man thatwho is a Roman citizen and uncondemned
22:26 AndWhen when the centurion heard itthat he went to the chieftribune captain and toldsaid to him saying What artare thouyou about to do forFor this man is a Roman citizen
22:27 AndSo the chieftribune captain came and said untoto him Tell me artare thouyou a Roman citizen And he said YeaYes
22:28 AndThe thetribune chief captain answered WithI abought greatthis sumcitizenship obtainedfor Ia thislarge citizenshipsum And Paul said But I amwas born a Romancitizen born
22:29 TheySo thenthose thatwho were about to examine him straightwaywithdrew departed from him: instantly; and the chieftribune captain also was afraid whenfor he knewrealized that hePaul was a Roman citizen and becausethat he had bound him
22:30 But on the morrow desiring to know the certaintyreal whereforereason hewhy wasthe Jews accused ofhim the Jews he loosedunbound him and commanded the chief priests and all the council to comemeet together and he brought Paul down and set him before them
23:1 And Paul looking stedfastlyintently onat the council said Brethren I have lived before God in all good conscience untilup to this day
23:2 And the high priest AnaniasAnani′as commanded themthose thatwho stood by him to smitestrike him on the mouth
23:3 Then Paul said Paulto unto him God shall smitestrike theeyou thouyou whitedwhitewashed wall: andAre sittestyou thousitting to judge me according to the law and commandestyet mecontrary to bethe smittenlaw contraryyou order me to thebe lawstruck
23:4 AndThose theywho that stood by said RevilestWould thouyou revile Gods high priest
23:5 And Paul said I knewdid not know brethren that he was the high priest:; for it is written ThouYou shaltshall not speak evil of a ruler of thyyour people
23:6 But when Paul perceived that the one part were SadduceesSad′ducees and the other Pharisees he cried out in the council Brethren I am a Pharisee a son of Pharisees:; touchingwith respect to the hope and the resurrection of the dead I am calledon intrial question
23:7 And when he had so said therethis arose a dissension arose between the Pharisees and Sadduceesthe Sad′ducees; and the assembly was divided
23:8 For the SadduceesSad′ducees say that there is no resurrection neithernor angel nor spirit; but the Pharisees confessacknowledge boththem all
23:9 AndThen there arose a great clamor: arose; and some of the scribes of the Pharisees partparty stood up and strovecontended saying We find nonothing evilwrong in this man: andWhat what if a spirit hathor spokenan angel spoke to him or an angel
23:10 And when therethe arosedissension abecame greatviolent dissension the chieftribune captainafraid fearingthat lest Paul shouldwould be torn in pieces by them commanded the soldiers to go down and take him by force from among them and bring him into the castlebarracks
23:11 AndThe thefollowing night following the Lord stood by him and said BeTake ofcourage good cheer: for as thouyou hasthave testified concerningabout me at Jerusalem so you must thou bear witness also at Rome
23:12 AndWhen when it was day the Jews bandedmade togethera plot and bound themselves underby aan curseoath sayingneither thatto they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul
23:13 AndThere they were more than forty thatwho made this conspiracy
23:14 And they camewent to the chief priests and the elders and said We have strictly bound ourselves underby aan greatoath curse to taste nothingno untilfood till we have killed Paul
23:15 NowYou therefore doalong ye with the council signifygive notice now to the chieftribune captainto that he bring him down untoto you as though yeyou wouldwere judgegoing ofto determine his case more exactly: andAnd we before he comes near are ready to slaykill him before he comes near
23:16 ButNow the son of Pauls sisterssister son heard of their lyingambush; inso wait and he camewent and entered into the castlebarracks and told Paul
23:17 And Paul called unto him one of the centurions and said BringTake this young man untoto the chief captaintribune; for he hathhas something to tell him
23:18 So he took him and brought him to the chieftribune captain and saithsaid Paul the prisoner called me unto him and asked me to bring this young man untoto theeyou whoas hathhe has something to say to theeyou
23:19 AndThe thetribune chief captain took him by the hand and going aside asked him privately What is it that thouyou hasthave to tell me
23:20 And he said The Jews have agreed to ask theeyou to bring Paul down Paul to morrow unto the council tomorrow as though thouthey wouldestwere going to inquire somewhat more exactlyclosely concerningabout him
23:21 DoBut do not thou therefore yield untoto them:; for theremore liethan inforty waitof fortheir himmen oflie themin moreambush thanfor fortyhim menhaving who have bound themselves underby aan curseoath neither to eat nor to drink till they have slainkilled him:; and now they are they ready lookingwaiting for the promise from theeyou
23:22 So the chieftribune captaindismissed let the young man go charging him Tell no manone that thouyou hasthave signifiedinformed theseme thingsof to me this
23:23 AndThen he called unto him two of the centurions and said MakeAt readythe twothird hundredhour soldiersof tothe gonight asget farready astwo Caesareahundred andsoldiers horsemenwith threescoreseventy andhorsemen ten and spearmen two hundred atspearmen theto thirdgo houras offar theas night:Caesare′a
23:24 andAlso he bade them provide beastsmounts thatfor theyPaul mightto setride Paul thereon and bring him safesafely untoto Felix the governor
23:25 And he wrote a letter afterto this formeffect:
23:26 Claudius LysiasLys′ias untoto thehis mostExcellency excellentthe governor Felix greeting
23:27 This man was seized by the Jews and was about to be slainkilled ofby them when I came upon them with the soldiers and rescued him having learned that he was a Roman citizen
23:28 And desiring to know the causecharge whereforeon which they accused him I brought him down untoto their council:
23:29 whom I found tothat behe was accused about questions of their law but tocharged havewith nothing laiddeserving to his charge worthy of death or ofimprisonment bonds
23:30 And when it was showndisclosed to me that there would be a plot against the man I sent him to theeyou forthwithat chargingonce ordering his accusers also to speakstate againstbefore himyou beforewhat theethey have against him
23:31 So the soldiers asaccording itto wastheir commandedinstructions them took Paul and brought him by night to AntipatrisAntip′atris
23:32 ButAnd on the morrow they leftreturned to the barracks leaving the horsemen to go on with him and returned to the castle:
23:33 andWhen they when they came to CaesareaCaesare′a and delivered the letter to the governor they presented Paul also before him
23:34 AndOn whenreading hethe hadletter read it he asked ofto what province he was;belonged andWhen when he understoodlearned that he was offrom CiliciaCili′cia
23:35 he said I will hear theeyou fully said he when thineyour accusers alsoarrive areAnd come: and he commanded him to be keptguarded in Herods palacepraetorium
24:1 And after five days the high priest AnaniasAnani′as came down with certainsome elders and witha anspokesman orator one Tertullus;Tertul′lus andThey theylaid informedbefore the governor their case against Paul;
24:2 Andand when he was called TertullusTertul′lus began to accuse him saying: SeeingSince thatthrough byyou thee we enjoy much peace and thatsince by thyyour providenceprovision evilsmost excellent Felix reforms are correctedintroduced foron behalf of this nation
24:3 we accept it in allevery waysway and ineverywhere allwe placesaccept mostthis excellent Felix with all thankfulnessgratitude
24:4 But thatto Idetain beyou notno further tediousI untobeg theeyou Iin entreatyour theekindness to hear us ofbriefly thy clemency a few words
24:5 For we have found this man a pestilent fellow andan aagitator mover of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:
24:6 whoHe moreovereven assayedtried to profane the temple: onbut whom also we laidseized hold:him
24:8 fromBy whomexamining thouhim wiltyourself you will be able byto examininglearn from him thyselfabout toeverything take knowledge of allwhich these things whereof we accuse him
24:9 AndThe the Jews also joined in the charge affirming that theseall thingsthis werewas so
24:10 And when the governor had beckonedmotioned untoto him to speak Paul answeredreplied: ForasmuchRealizing asthat Ifor knowmany thatyears thouyou hasthave been of many years a judge untoover this nation I cheerfully make my defence:defense
24:11 seeingAs thatyou thoumay canstascertain take knowledge that it is not more than twelve days since I went up to worship at Jerusalem:;
24:12 and neitherthey in the temple did theynot find me disputing with any manone or stirring up a crowd noreither in the temple or in the synagogues noror in the city
24:13 Neither can they prove to theeyou thewhat things whereof they now accusebring up against me
24:14 But this I confessadmit untoto theeyou that afteraccording to the Way which they call a sect soI serveworship I the God of our fathers believing alleverything thingslaid whichdown areby according to the law andor which are written in the prophets;
24:15 having a hope towardin God which these also themselves lookaccept for that there shallwill be a resurrection of both of the just and the unjust
24:16 HereinSo I alsoalways exercisetake myselfpains to have a clear conscience void of offence toward God and toward men always
24:17 Now after some years I came to bring alms to my nation alms and offerings:
24:18 amidstAs whichI was doing this they found me purified in the temple withwithout noany crowd noror yet with tumult: butBut theresome were certain Jews from Asia—
24:19 whothey ought to havebe been here before theeyou and to make an accusation if they hadhave aughtanything against me
24:20 Or else let these men themselves say what wrongwrongdoing doing they found when I stood before the council
24:21 except it be for this one voicething thatwhich I cried out while standing among them TouchingWith respect to the resurrection of the dead I am calledon intrial question before you this day
24:22 But Felix having morea exactrather accurate knowledge concerningof the Way deferredput them off saying When LysiasLys′ias the chieftribune captaincomes shall come down I will determinedecide your mattercase
24:23 AndThen he gave orderorders to the centurion that he should be kept in chargecustody andbut should have indulgence;some liberty and notthat tonone forbid any of his friends should be prevented from attending to ministerhis unto himneeds
24:24 ButAfter aftersome certain days Felix came with Drusilla his wife Drusil′la who was a Jewess; and he sent for Paul and heard him concerningspeak theupon faith in Christ Jesus
24:25 And as he reasonedargued ofabout righteousnessjustice and self control and thefuture judgment to come Felix was terrifiedalarmed and answeredsaid Go thyaway way for thisthe timepresent; and when I have aan convenientopportunity season I will callsummon theeyou unto me
24:26 HeAt the same time he hoped withal that money would be given him ofby Paul: whereforeSo also he sent for him theoften oftener and communedconversed with him
24:27 But when two years werehad fulfilledelapsed Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus; and desiring to gaindo favor with the Jews a favor Felix left Paul in bondsprison
25:1 Now when Festus thereforehad having come into thehis province after three days he went up to Jerusalem from CaesareaCaesare′a
25:2 And the chief priests and the principal men of the Jews informed him against Paul; and they besoughturged him
25:3 asking as a favor againstto himhave thatthe heman wouldsent send for him to Jerusalem; layingplanning aan plotambush to kill him on the way
25:4 Howbeit Festus answeredreplied that Paul was being kept in charge at CaesareaCaesare′a and that he himself wasintended about to departgo thitherthere shortly
25:5 LetSo themsaid thereforehe saithlet hethe thatmen are of powerauthority among you go down with me and if there is anything amisswrong inabout the man let them accuse him
25:6 AndWhen when he had tarriedstayed among them not more than eight or ten days he went down untoto CaesareaCaesare′a; and on the morrownext day he sattook his seat on the judgmenttribunal seat and commandedordered Paul to be brought
25:7 And when he washad come the Jews thatwho had comegone down from Jerusalem stood round about him bringing against him many andserious grievous charges which they could not prove;
25:8 while Paul said in his defencedefense Neither against the law of the Jews nor against the temple nor against Caesar have I sinnedoffended at all
25:9 But Festus desiringwishing to gaindo favor with the Jews answereda favor said to Paul andDo saidyou Wiltwish thouto go up to Jerusalem and there be judgedtried ofon these thingscharges before me
25:10 But Paul said I am standing before Caesars judgmenttribunal seat where I ought to be judged:tried; to the Jews I have I done no wrong as thouyou alsoknow very well knowest
25:11 If then I am a wrongwrongdoer doer and have committed anything worthyfor ofwhich deathI deserve to die I refusedo not seek to dieescape death; but if nonethere ofis thosenothing thingsin istheir truecharges whereofagainst these accuse me no manone can give me up untoto them I appeal untoto Caesar
25:12 Then Festus when he had conferred with thehis council answered ThouYou hasthave appealed untoto Caesar:; untoto Caesar shaltyou thoushall go
25:13 Now when certainsome days werehad passed Agrippa the king and BerniceBerni′ce arrived at CaesareaCaesare′a andto salutedwelcome Festus
25:14 And as they tarriedstayed there many days Festus laid Pauls case before the king saying There is a certain man left a prisoner by Felix;
25:15 aboutand whom when I was at Jerusalem the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informedgave meinformation about him asking for sentence against him
25:16 To whom I answered them that it iswas not the custom of the Romans to give up any manone before that the accused havemet the accusers face to face and have had opportunity to make his defencedefense concerning the mattercharge laid against him
25:17 When therefore they werecame come together here I made no delay but on the next day sattook my seat on the judgmenttribunal seat and commandedordered the man to be brought in
25:18 ConcerningWhen whom when the accusers stood up they brought no charge in his case of such evilevils things as I supposed;
25:19 but they had certain questionspoints againstof dispute with him ofabout their own religionsuperstition and ofabout one Jesus who was dead but whom Paul affirmedasserted to be alive
25:20 AndBeing Iat beinga perplexedloss how to inquireinvestigate concerning these thingsquestions I asked whether he wouldwished to go to Jerusalem and there be judgedtried ofthere theseregarding mattersthem
25:21 But when Paul had appealed to be kept in custody for the decision of the emperor I commanded him to be keptheld tilluntil I shouldcould send him to Caesar
25:22 And Agrippa said untoto Festus I alsoshould couldlike wish to hear the man myself ToTomorrow morrowsaid saith he thouyou shaltshall hear him
25:23 So on the morrow when Agrippa wasand comeBerni′ce andcame Bernice with great pomp and they were entered into the placeaudience ofhall hearing with the chiefmilitary captainstribunes and the principalprominent men of the city atThen theby command of Festus Paul was brought in
25:24 And Festus saithsaid King Agrippa and all men who are here present with us yeyou beholdsee this man about whom all the multitudewhole ofJewish thepeople Jewspetitioned made suit to me both at Jerusalem and here cryingshouting that he ought not to live any longer
25:25 But I found that he had committeddone nothing worthydeserving of death:; and as he himself appealed to the emperor I determineddecided to send him
25:26 OfBut whom I have nonothing certaindefinite thing to write untoto my lord Whereforeabout him Therefore I have brought him forth before you and speciallyespecially before theeyou kingKing Agrippa that after examinationwe hadhave examined him I may have somewhatsomething to write
25:27 For it seemethseems to me unreasonable in sending a prisoner not withal to signifyindicate the charges against him
26:1 And Agrippa said untoto Paul ThouYou arthave permittedpermission to speak for thyselfyourself Then Paul stretched forthout his hand and made his defencedefense:
26:2 I think myself happyfortunate kingthat it is before you King Agrippa that I am to make my defencedefense beforetoday theeagainst this day touching all the thingsaccusations whereofof I am accused by the Jews:
26:3 especially because thouyou artare expertespecially infamiliar with all customs and questionscontroversies whichof are among the Jews:; whereforetherefore I beseechbeg theeyou to hearlisten to me patiently
26:4 My manner of life then from my youth upspent which was from the beginning among minemy own nation and at Jerusalem knowis known by all the Jews;
26:5 havingThey knowledgehave ofknown mefor froma thelong firsttime if they beare willing to testify that afteraccording to the straiteststrictest sectparty of our religion I have lived as a Pharisee
26:6 And now I stand here toon betrial judged for the hope ofin the promise made ofby God untoto our fathers;
26:7 untoto which promise our twelve tribes hope to attain as they earnestly servingworship God night and day hope to attain And concerningfor this hope I am accused by the Jews O king
26:8 Why is it judgedthought incredible withby any of you ifthat God dothraises raise the dead
26:9 I verilymyself thoughtwas withconvinced myself that I ought to do many things contraryin toopposing the name of Jesus of Nazareth
26:10 And this I also did so in Jerusalem:; and I bothnot only shut up many of the saints in prisonsprison havingby received authority from the chief priests andbut when they were put to death I gavecast my vote against them
26:11 And punishingI punished them oftentimesoften in all the synagogues Iand strovetried to make them blaspheme; and beingin exceedinglyraging madfury against them I persecuted them even untoto foreign cities
26:12 WhereuponThus as I journeyed to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests
26:13 atAt midday O king I saw on the way a light from heaven abovebrighter thethan brightness of the sun shining round about me and themthose thatwho journeyed with me
26:14 And when we werehad all fallen to the earthground I heard a voice saying untoto me in the Hebrew language Saul Saul why persecutestdo thouyou persecute me itIt ishurts hardyou for thee to kick against the goadgoads
26:15 And I said Who artare thouyou Lord And the Lord said I am Jesus whom thouyou persecutestare persecuting
26:16 But ariserise and stand upon thyyour feet:; for toI thishave endappeared haveto Iyou appearedfor untothis theepurpose to appoint theeyou ato ministerserve and abear witness bothto of the things whereinin thouwhich hastyou have seen me and ofto thethose thingsin whereinwhich I will appear untoto thee;you
26:17 delivering theeyou from the people and from the Gentiles—to unto whom I send theeyou
26:18 to open their eyes that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan untoto God that they may receive remissionforgiveness of sins and ana inheritanceplace among themthose thatwho are sanctified by faith in me
26:19 Wherefore O kingKing Agrippa I was not disobedient untoto the heavenly vision:
26:20 but declared bothfirst to themthose ofat Damascus firstthen and at Jerusalem and throughout all the country of JudaeaJudea and also to the Gentiles that they should repent and turn to God doingand worksperform deeds worthy of their repentance
26:21 For this causereason the Jews seized me in the temple and assayedtried to kill me
26:22 HavingTo thereforethis obtainedday I have had the help that iscomes from God and so I stand untohere this day testifying both to small and great saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses didsaid saywould should come; to pass:
26:23 how that the Christ must suffer and how that heby being the first byto therise resurrectionfrom of the dead shouldhe would proclaim light both to the people and to the Gentiles
26:24 And as he thus made his defencedefense Festus saithsaid with a loud voice Paul thouyou artare mad; thyyour muchgreat learning is turning theeyou mad
26:25 But Paul saithsaid I am not mad most excellent Festus; but speakI fortham wordsspeaking ofthe sober truth and soberness
26:26 For the king knowethknows ofabout these things untoand whomto alsohim I speak freely:; for I am persuaded that none of these things ishas hiddenescaped fromhis him;notice for this hathwas not been done in a corner
26:27 King Agrippa believestdo thouyou believe the prophets I know that thouyou believestbelieve
26:28 And Agrippa said untoto Paul WithIn buta littleshort persuasiontime thouyou wouldestthink fainto make me a Christian
26:29 And Paul said Whether short or long I would to God that whether with little or with much not thou only you but also all thatwho hear me this day might become such as I am —except for these bondschains
26:30 AndThen the king rose up and the governor and BerniceBerni′ce and theythose thatwho satwere sitting with them:;
26:31 and when they had withdrawn they spakesaid to one to another saying This man doethis doing nothing worthyto ofdeserve death or ofimprisonment bonds
26:32 And Agrippa said untoto Festus This man mightcould have been set atfree liberty if he had not appealed untoto Caesar
27:1 And when it was determineddecided that we should sail for Italy they delivered Paul and certainsome other prisoners to a centurion named Julius of the Augustan bandCohort named Julius
27:2 And embarking in a ship of AdramyttiumAdramyt′tium which was about to sail untoto the placesports onalong the coast of Asia we put to sea Aristarchusaccompanied aby MacedonianAristar′chus ofa ThessalonicaMacedo′nian beingfrom withThessaloni′ca us
27:3 AndThe the next day we touchedput in at Sidon:; and Julius treated Paul kindly and gave him leave to go untoto his friends and refreshbe himselfcared for
27:4 And putting to sea from thencethere we sailed under the lee of Cyprus because the winds were contraryagainst us
27:5 And when we had sailed across the sea which is off CiliciaCili′cia and PamphyliaPamphyl′ia we came to Myra ain cityLy′cia of Lycia
27:6 AndThere there the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing for Italy; and he put us thereinon board
27:7 AndWe whensailed weslowly hadfor saileda slowlynumber manyof days and werearrived come with difficulty overoff againstCni′dus Cnidusand as the wind did not furtherallow suffering us to go on we sailed under the lee of Crete overoff againstSalmo′ne Salmone;
27:8 andCoasting along it with difficulty coasting along it we came untoto a certain place called Fair Havens; nighnear whereuntowhich was the city of LaseaLase′a
27:9 AndAs when much time washad spentbeen lost and the voyage was nowalready dangerous because the Fastfast washad now already gone by Paul admonishedadvised them
27:10 andsaying said unto them Sirs I perceive that the voyage will be with injury and much loss not only of the ladingcargo and the ship but also of our lives
27:11 But the centurion gavepaid more heedattention to the mastercaptain and to the owner of the ship than to thosewhat thingsPaul whichsaid were spoken by Paul
27:12 And because the havenharbor was not commodioussuitable to winter in the moremajority part advised to put to sea from thencethere ifon bythe anychance meansthat somehow they could reach Phoenix and winter there; which is a havenharbor of Crete looking northnortheast eastand southeast and southwinter east there
27:13 And when the south wind blew softlygently supposing that they had obtained their purpose they weighed anchor and sailed along Crete close ininshore shore
27:14 But aftersoon noa longtempestuous timewind therecalled beatthe northeaster struck down from itthe aland; tempestuous wind which is called Euraquilo:
27:16 And running under the lee of a small island called Cauda we weremanaged able with difficulty to secure the boat:;
27:17 andafter whenhoisting they had hoisted it up they usedtook helpsmeasures underto girdingundergird the ship; andthen fearing lestthat they should berun caston upon the SyrtisSyr′tis they lowered the gear and so were driven
27:18 AndAs as we laboredwere exceedinglyviolently withstorm thetossed stormthey thebegan next day they began to throw the freightcargo overboard;
27:19 and the third day they cast out with their own hands the tacklingtackle of the ship
27:20 And when neither sun nor stars shoneappeared upon us for many daysa day and no small tempest lay on us all hope thatof weour shouldbeing be saved was nowat takenlast away abandoned
27:21 AndAs when they had been long without food then Paul stoodthen forthcame inforward theamong midst of them and said SirsMen yeyou should have hearkenedlistened untoto me and should not have set sail from Crete and haveincurred gotten this injury and loss
27:22 AndI now Ibid exhort you totake be of good cheerheart; for there shallwill be no loss of life among you but only of the ship
27:23 For this very night there stood by me this night an angel of the God whoseto whom I ambelong and whom also I serveworship
27:24 sayingand Fearhe said Do not be afraid Paul; thouyou must stand before Caesar:; and lo God hathhas granted theeyou all themthose thatwho sail with theeyou
27:25 WhereforeSo sirstake beheart ofmen good cheer: for I believehave faith in God that it shallwill be evenexactly so as itI hathhave been spokentold unto me
27:26 But we mustshall behave castto uponrun aon certainsome island
27:27 ButWhen when the fourteenth night washad come as we were drivendrifting toacross and fro in the sea of AdriaA′dria about midnight the sailors surmisedsuspected that they were drawingnearing nearland to some country:
27:28 andSo they sounded and found twenty fathoms; and after a little spacefarther on they sounded again and found fifteen fathoms
27:29 And fearing lestthat haply we shouldmight berun cast ashore on rockythe groundrocks they let goout four anchors from the stern and wishedprayed for the day to come
27:30 And as the sailors were seeking to fleeescape outfrom of the ship and had lowered the boat into the sea under colorpretense asof thoughlaying they would lay out anchors from the foreshipbow
27:31 Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers ExceptUnless these abidemen stay in the ship yeyou cannot be saved
27:32 Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the boat and let herit fall off go
27:33 AndAs while the day was comingabout onto dawn Paul besoughturged them all to take some food saying ThisToday day is the fourteenth day that yeyou waithave continued in suspense and continuewithout fastingfood having taken nothing
27:34 WhereforeTherefore I beseechurge you to take some food:; forit thiswill isgive foryou yourstrength safety:since for there shall not a hair is to perish from the head of any of you
27:35 And when he had said this andhe hadtook taken bread heand gavegiving thanks to God in the presence of all; and he brakebroke it and began to eat
27:36 Then were they all ofwere goodencouraged cheer and themselvesate alsosome took food themselves
27:37 AndWe we were in all intwo thehundred shipand twoseventy hundredsix threescorepersons andin sixteenthe soulsship
27:39 AndNow when it was day they knewdid not recognize the land: but they perceivednoticed a certain bay with a beach andon which they tookplanned counselif whetherpossible theyto couldbring drive the ship uponashore it
27:40 AndSo castingthey cast off the anchors theyand left them in the sea at the same time loosingloosening the bandsropes ofthat tied the rudders; andthen hoisting up the foresail to the wind they made for the beach
27:41 But lightingstriking upon a placeshoal where two seas met they ran the vessel aground; and the foreshipbow struckstuck and remained unmoveableimmovable butand the stern beganwas tobroken break up by the violencesurf of the waves
27:42 AndThe the soldiers counselplan was to kill the prisoners lest any of them should swim outaway and escape;
27:43 Butbut the centurion desiringwishing to save Paul stayedkept them from carrying out their purpose; andHe commandedordered thatthose they who could swim shouldto castthrow themselves overboard first and getmake firstfor to the land;
27:44 and the rest some on planks andor some on otherpieces thingsof from the ship And so it camewas to pass that they all escaped safe to the land
28:1 AndAfter when we werehad escaped we then welearned knew that the island was called MelitaMalta
28:2 And the barbariansnatives showed us nounusual common kindness: for they kindled a fire and receivedwelcomed us all because ofit thehad presentbegun to rain and becausewas of the cold
28:3 But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laidput them on the fire when a viper came out bybecause reason of the heat and fastened on his hand
28:4 AndWhen when the barbariansnatives saw the venomous creature hanging from his hand they said to one to another No doubt this man is a murderer whomThough though he hathhas escaped from the sea yetjustice Justicehas hath not sufferedallowed him to live
28:5 HowbeitHe hehowever shook off the creature into the fire and tooksuffered no harm
28:6 ButThey theywaited expectedexpecting thathim heto wouldswell haveup swollen or fallensuddenly fall down dead; suddenly: but when they werehad waited a long intime expectation and beheldsaw nothingno amissmisfortune camecome to him they changed their minds and said that he was a god
28:7 Now in the neighborhood of that place were lands belonging to the chief man of the island named Publius; who received us and entertained us hospitably for three days courteously
28:8 AndIt ithappened was so that the father of Publius lay sick ofwith fever and dysentery:; untoand whom Paul enteredvisited inhim and prayed and layingputting his hands on him healed him
28:9 And when this washad donetaken place the rest alsoof thatthe hadpeople diseaseson in the island who had diseases also came and were cured:
28:10 whoThey alsopresented honoredmany usgifts withto many honorsus; and when we sailed they put on board suchwhatever things as we needed
28:11 AndAfter after three months we set sail in a ship of Alexandria which had wintered in the island whosea signship wasof TheAlexandria with the Twin Brothers as figurehead
28:12 AndPutting touchingin at Syracuse we tarriedstayed there for three days
28:13 And from thencethere we made a circuit and arrived at Rhegium:Rhe′gium; and after one day a south wind sprang up and on the second day we came to Puteoli;Pute′oli
28:14 whereThere we found brethren and were entreatedinvited to tarrystay with them for seven days: andAnd so we came to Rome
28:15 And from thence the brethren there when they heard of us came to meet us as far as Thethe MarketForum of AppiusAp′pius and The Three Taverns; whomto whenmeet Paulus sawOn heseeing them Paul thanked God and took courage
28:16 And when we enteredcame into Rome Paul was sufferedallowed to abidestay by himself with the soldier that guarded him
28:17 AndAfter it came to pass that after three days he called together thosethe thatlocal wereleaders the chief of the Jews:; and when they werehad comegathered together he said untoto them IBrethren brethren though I had done nothing against the people or the customs of our fathers yet I was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans:
28:18 whoWhen when they had examined me desiredthey wished to set me at liberty because there was no causereason offor the death penalty in memy case
28:19 But when the Jews spakeobjected against it I was constrainedcompelled to appeal untoto Caesar;—though not that I had aughtno whereofcharge to accusebring against my nation
28:20 For this causereason therefore did I entreathave youasked to see you and to speak with me:you forsince it is because of the hope of Israel that I am bound with this chain
28:21 And they said untoto him We neitherhave received no letters from JudaeaJudea concerningabout theeyou norand didnone any of the brethren comecoming hitherhere andhas reportreported or speakspoken any harmevil ofabout theeyou
