11:7 AndWhen whenUri′ah Uriahcame wasto come unto him David asked ofhow himJo′ab howwas Joabdoing did and how the people fared and how the war prospered
11:8 AndThen David said to UriahUri′ah Go down to thyyour house and wash thyyour feet And UriahUri′ah departedwent out of the kings house and there followed him a messpresent of food from the king
11:9 But UriahUri′ah slept at the door of the kings house with all the servants of his lord and wentdid not go down to his house
11:10 AndWhen when they had told David sayingUri′ah Uriahdid went not go down untoto his house David said untoto UriahUri′ah ArtHave thouyou not come from a journey whereforeWhy didstdid thouyou not go down untoto thyyour house
11:11 AndUri′ah Uriah said untoto David The ark and Israel and Judah abidedwell in booths; and my lord JoabJo′ab and the servants of my lord are encampedcamping in the open field; shall I then go intoto my house to eat and to drink and to lie with my wife asAs thouyou livestlive and as thyyour soul livethlives I will not do this thing
11:12 AndThen David said to UriahUri′ah TarryRemain here totoday day also and totomorrow morrow I will let theeyou depart So UriahUri′ah aboderemained in Jerusalem that day and the morrownext
11:13 And when David hadinvited called him and he didate eatin his presence and drinkdrank beforeso him;that and he made him drunk:; and atin eventhe evening he went out to lie on his bedcouch with the servants of his lord but wenthe did not go down to his house
11:14 AndIn it came to pass in the morning that David wrote a letter to JoabJo′ab and sent it by the hand of UriahUri′ah
11:15 AndIn he wrote in the letter sayinghe wrote Set yeUri′ah Uriah in the forefront of the hottesthardest battlefighting and retirethen yedraw back from him that he may be smittenstruck down and die
11:16 And itas cameJo′ab towas passbesieging when Joab kept watch upon the city that he assigned UriahUri′ah untoto the place where he knew thatthere were valiant men were
11:17 And the men of the city wentcame out and fought with Joab:Jo′ab; and there fell some of the peopleservants even of theDavid servantsamong ofthe David;people andfell UriahUri′ah the Hittite diedwas slain also
11:18 Then JoabJo′ab sent and told David all the thingsnews concerningabout the warfighting;
11:19 and he chargedinstructed the messenger saying When thouyou hasthave madefinished an end of telling all the thingsnews concerningabout the warfighting untoto the king
11:20 itthen shall be that if the kings wrathanger ariserises and if he saysays untoto theeyou WhereforeWhy wentdid yeyou go so nighnear unto the city to fight knewDid yeyou not know that they would shoot from the wall
11:21 whoWho smotekilled AbimelechAbim′elech the son of JerubbeshethJerub′besheth didDid not a woman cast an upper millstone upon him from the wall so that he died at Thebez whyWhy wentdid yeyou go so nighnear the wall then shaltyou thoushall say ThyYour servant UriahUri′ah the Hittite is dead also
11:22 So the messenger went and came and showedtold David all that JoabJo′ab had sent him forto tell
11:23 AndThe the messenger said untoto David The men prevailedgained againstan advantage over us and came out untoagainst us intoin the field; andbut we weredrove upon them evenback untoto the entrance of the gate
11:24 AndThen the shootersarchers shot at thyyour servants from off the wall; and some of the kings servants are dead; and thyyour servant UriahUri′ah the Hittite is dead also
11:25 Then David said untoto the messenger Thus shaltshall thouyou say untoto JoabJo′ab LetDo not let this thingmatter displeasetrouble theeyou for the sword devourethdevours now one asand wellnow as another; makestrengthen thyyour battleattack moreupon strong against the city and overthrow it: andAnd encourage thou him
11:26 AndWhen when the wife of UriahUri′ah heard that UriahUri′ah her husband was dead she made lamentation for her husband
11:27 And when the mourning was pastover David sent and tookbrought her home to his house and she became his wife and barebore him a son But the thing that David had done displeased Jehovahthe Lord
12:1 And Jehovahthe Lord sent Nathan untoto David AndHe he came untoto him and said untoto him There were two men in onea certain city; the one rich and the other poor
12:2 The rich man had exceedingvery many flocks and herds;
12:3 but the poor man had nothing savebut one little ewe lamb which he had bought andAnd nourishedhe brought it up: and it grew up together with him and with his children; it didused to eat of his own morsel and drankdrink offrom his own cup and laylie in his bosom and it was untolike him as a daughter to him
12:4 AndNow there came a travellertraveler untoto the rich man and he sparedwas unwilling to take one of his own flock andor of his own herd to dressprepare for the wayfaringwayfarer manwho thathad was come untoto him but he took the poor mans lamb and dressedprepared it for the man thatwho washad come to him
12:5 AndThen Davids anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan As Jehovahthe livethLord lives the man thatwho hathhas done this isdeserves worthy to die:;
12:7 And Nathan said to David ThouYou artare the man Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord the God of Israel I anointed theeyou king over Israel and I delivered theeyou out of the hand of Saul;
12:8 and I gave theeyou thyyour masters house and thyyour masters wives into thyyour bosom and gave theeyou the house of Israel and of Judah; and if thatthis hadwere been too little I would haveadd addedto untoyou theeas suchmuch andmore such things
12:9 WhereforeWhy hasthave thouyou despised the word of Jehovahthe Lord to do thatwhat which is evil in his sight thouYou hasthave smitten UriahUri′ah the Hittite with the sword and hasthave taken his wife to be thyyour wife and hasthave slain him with the sword of the childrenAmmonites of Ammon
12:10 Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thyyour house because thouyou hasthave despised me and hasthave taken the wife of UriahUri′ah the Hittite to be thyyour wife
12:11 Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord Behold I will raise up evil against theeyou out of thineyour own house; and I will take thyyour wives before thineyour eyes and give them untoto thyyour neighbor and he shall lie with thyyour wives in the sight of this sun
12:12 For thouyou didstdid it secretly:; but I will do this thing before all Israel and before the sun
12:13 And David said untoto Nathan I have sinned against Jehovahthe Lord And Nathan said untoto David JehovahThe Lord also hathhas put away thyyour sin; thouyou shaltshall not die
12:14 HowbeitNevertheless because by this deed thouyou hasthave givenutterly greatscorned occasion to the enemiesLord of Jehovah to blaspheme the child also that is born untoto theeyou shall surely die
12:15 AndThen Nathan departedwent untoto his house And Jehovahthe Lord struck the child that UriahsUri′ahs wife barebore untoto David and it wasbecame very sick
12:16 David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted and went in and lay all night upon the earthground
12:17 And the elders of his house arose and stood beside him to raise him up from the earth:ground; but he would not neithernor did he eat breadfood with them
12:18 AndOn it came to pass on the seventh day that the child died And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead; for they said Behold while the child was yet alive we spakespoke untoto him and he hearkeneddid not untolisten ourto voice:us; how will he then vexcan himselfwe ifsay weto tell him that the child is dead He may do himself some harm
12:19 But when David saw that his servants were whispering together David perceived that the child was dead; and David said untoto his servants Is the child dead AndThey they said He is dead
12:20 Then David arose from the earth and washed and anointed himself and changed his apparelclothes; and he camewent into the house of Jehovahthe Lord and worshipped:worshiped; he then hewent came to his own house; and when he requiredasked they set breadfood before him and he didate eat
12:21 Then said his servants untosaid to him What thing is this thing that thouyou hasthave done thouYou didstfasted fast and weepwept for the child while it was alive; but when the child wasdied deadyou thouarose didst rise and eatate breadfood
12:22 AndHe he said While the child was yetstill alive I fasted and wept:; for I said Who knowethknows whether Jehovahthe Lord will not be gracious to me that the child may live
12:23 But now he is dead; whereforewhy should I fast canCan I bring him back again I shall go to him but he will not return to me
12:24 AndThen David comforted Bath sheba his wife Bathshe′ba and went in untoto her and lay with her:; and she barebore a son and he called his name Solomon And Jehovahthe Lord loved him;
12:25 and he sent bya themessage handby of Nathan the prophet; andso he called his name JedidiahJedidi′ah forbecause Jehovahsof sakethe Lord
12:26 Now JoabJo′ab fought against Rabbah of the childrenAmmonites of Ammon and took the royal city
12:27 And JoabJo′ab sent messengers to David and said I have fought against Rabbah; yeamoreover I have taken the city of waters
12:28 Now thereforethen gather the rest of the people together and encamp against the city and take it; lest I take the city and it be called afterby my name
12:29 AndSo David gathered all the people together and went to Rabbah and fought against it and took it
12:30 And he took the crown of their king from off his head; and the weight thereofof it was a talent of gold and in it werewas a precious stonesstone; and it was setplaced on Davids head And he brought forth the spoil of the city exceedinga muchvery great amount
12:31 And he brought forth the people thatwho were thereinin it and putset them underto labor with saws and underiron harrowspicks ofand iron and under axes of iron and made them passtoil throughat the brickkiln:brickkilns; and thus he did heto unto all the cities of the childrenAmmonites ofThen Ammon And David and all the people returned untoto Jerusalem

13:4 And he said untoto him Why O son of the king artwhy thouare thusyou leanso fromhaggard daymorning toafter daymorning wiltWill thouyou not tell me And Amnon said untoto him I love Tamar my brother AbsalomsAb′saloms sister
13:5 AndJon′adab Jonadab said untoto him LayLie thee down on thyyour bed and feignpretend thyselfto sick:be ill; and when thyyour father comethcomes to see theeyou say untoto him Let my sister Tamar come I pray thee and give me bread to eat and dressprepare the food in my sight that I may see it and eat it from her hand
13:6 So Amnon lay down and feignedpretended himselfto sick:be ill; and when the king wascame come to see him Amnon said untoto the king LetPray let my sister Tamar come I pray thee and make me a couple of cakes in my sight that I may eat from her hand
13:7 Then David sent home to Tamar saying Go now to thyyour brother Amnons house and dressprepare food for him food

13:12 AndShe she answered him NayNo my brother do not force me; for no such a thing oughtis tonot be done in Israel:; do not thoudo this wanton folly
13:13 AndAs Ifor whitherme shallwhere could I carry my shame andAnd as for theeyou thouyou wiltwould be as one of the wanton fools in Israel Now therefore I pray theeyou speak untoto the king; for he will not withhold me from theeyou
13:14 HowbeitBut he would not hearkenlisten untoto her voice; butand being stronger than she he forced her and lay with her
13:15 Then Amnon hated her with exceedingvery great hatred; forso that the hatred wherewithwith which he hated her was greater than the love wherewithwith which he had loved her And Amnon said untoto her Arise be gone
13:16 AndBut she said untoto him NotNo somy becausebrother; for this great wrong in puttingsending me forthaway is worsegreater than the other thatwhich thouyou didstdid untoto me But he would not hearkenlisten untoto her

13:29 AndSo the servants of AbsalomAb′salom did untoto Amnon as AbsalomAb′salom had commanded Then all the kings sons arose and everyeach manmounted gat him up upon his mule and fled
13:30 AndWhile it came to pass while they were inon the way that the tidings came to David sayingAb′salom Absalomhas hath slain all the kings sons and there is not one of them is left
13:31 Then the king arose and rent his garments and lay on the earth; and all his servants stoodwho were standing by withrent their clothesgarments rent
13:32 AndBut JonadabJon′adab the son of ShimeahShim′e ah Davids brother answered and said Let not my lord suppose that they have killed all the young men the kings sons; for Amnon onlyalone is dead: for by the appointmentcommand of AbsalomAb′salom this hathhas been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar
13:33 Now therefore let not my lord the king so take theit thing to his heart as to thinksuppose that all the kings sons are dead; for Amnon onlyalone is dead
13:34 But AbsalomAb′salom fled And the young man thatwho kept the watch lifted up his eyes and looked and behold theremany camepeople muchwere peoplecoming byfrom the wayHorona′im ofroad by the hill side behindof himthe mountain
13:35 And JonadabJon′adab said untoto the king Behold the kings sons arehave come:; as thyyour servant said so it ishas come about
13:36 And it came to pass as soon as he had madefinished an end of speaking that behold the kings sons came and lifted up their voice and wept:; and the king also and all his servants wept very sorebitterly
13:37 But AbsalomAb′salom fled and went to Talmai the son of AmmihurAmmi′hud king of Geshur And David mourned for his son everyday after day
13:38 So AbsalomAb′salom fled and went to Geshur and was there three years
13:39 And the soulspirit of the king David longed to go forth untoto Absalom:Ab′salom; for he was comforted concerningabout Amnon seeing he was dead
14:1 Now JoabJo′ab the son of ZeruiahZeru′iah perceived that the kings heart waswent towardout Absalomto Ab′salom
14:2 And JoabJo′ab sent to TekoaTeko′a and fetched thencefrom there a wise woman and said untoto her IPretend pray thee feign thyself to be a mourner and put on mourning apparelgarments; Ido praynot thee and anoint notyourself thyself with oil but bebehave aslike a woman thatwho hathhas abeen longmourning timemany mourneddays for the dead:;
14:3 and go in to the king and speak onthus thisto manner unto him So JoabJo′ab put the words in her mouth
14:4 AndWhen when the woman of TekoaTeko′a spakecame to the king she fell on her face to the ground and did obeisance and said Help O king
14:5 And the king said untoto her What ailethis theeyour Andtrouble sheShe answered OfAlas a truth I am a widow; and my husband is dead
14:6 And thyyour handmaid had two sons and they twoquarreled strovewith togetherone another in the field; and there was noneno one to part them butand the one smotestruck the other and killed him
14:7 And beholdnow the whole family ishas risen against thyyour handmaid and they say DeliverGive himup thatthe smoteman who struck his brother that we may kill him for the life of his brother whom he slew; and so they would destroy the heir also Thus will they would quench my coal which is left and will leave to my husband neither name nor remainderremnant upon the face of the earth
14:8 AndThen the king said untoto the woman Go to thyyour house and I will give chargeorders concerning theeyou
14:9 And the woman of TekoaTeko′a said untoto the king MyOn lordme Obe king the iniquityguilt bemy onlord methe king and on my fathers house; andlet the king and his throne be guiltless
14:10 AndThe the king said WhosoeverIf saithany aughtone untosays theeanything to you bring him to me and he shall notnever touch theeyou anyagain more
14:11 Then said she Isaid prayPray thee let the king rememberinvoke Jehovahthe thyLord your God that the avenger of blood destroyslay notno any more lestand they destroy my son Andbe henot destroyed He said As Jehovahthe livethLord therelives shall not one hair of thyyour son shall fall to the earthground
14:12 Then the woman said LetPray thylet your handmaid I pray thee speak a word untoto my lord the king AndHe he said SaySpeak on
14:13 And the woman said WhereforeWhy then hasthave thouyou devisedplanned such a thing against the people of God forFor in speakinggiving this worddecision the king isconvicts ashimself oneinasmuch thatas is guilty in that the king dothdoes not fetchbring home again his banished one home again
14:14 ForWe we must needsall die andwe are aslike water spilt on the ground which cannot be gathered up again; neitherbut doth God will not take away the life butof devisethhim who devises means thatnot heto thatkeep ishis banished beone not an outcast from him
14:15 Now therefore seeing that I amhave come to speaksay this wordto unto my lord the king it is because the people have made me afraid:; and thyyour handmaid saidthought I will now speak untoto the king; it may be that the king will perform the request of his servant
14:16 For the king will hear toand deliver his servant outfrom of the hand of the man thatwho would destroy me and my son together outfrom of the inheritanceheritage of God
14:17 ThenAnd thyyour handmaid saidthought LetThe I pray thee the word of my lord the king bewill comfortableset me at rest; for asmy anlord angelthe ofking Godis solike isthe myangel lordof theGod king to discern good and bad:evil andThe JehovahLord thyyour God be with theeyou
14:18 Then the king answered and said unto the woman HideDo not hide from me Ianything pray thee aught that I shall ask theeyou And the woman said Let my lord the king now speak
14:19 AndThe the king said Is the hand of JoabJo′ab with theeyou in all this AndThe the woman answered and said As thysurely soulas livethyou live my lord the king noneone cancannot turn to the right hand or to the left from aughtanything that my lord the king hathhas spoken;said forIt thywas your servant JoabJo′ab hewho bade me; andit was he who put all these words in the mouth of thyyour handmaid;
14:20 In order to change the facecourse of theaffairs matteryour hath thy servant JoabJo′ab donedid this thing:But and my lord ishas wisewisdom accordinglike to the wisdom of anthe angel of God to know all things that are inon the earth
14:21 AndThen the king said untoto JoabJo′ab Behold now I havegrant done this; thing: go therefore bring back the young man AbsalomAb′salom back
14:22 And JoabJo′ab fell on his face to the ground on his face and did obeisance and blessed the king; and JoabJo′ab said ToToday dayyour thy servant knowethknows that I have found favor in thyyour sight my lord Othe king in that the king hathhas performedgranted the request of his servant
14:23 So JoabJo′ab arose and went to Geshur and brought AbsalomAb′salom to Jerusalem
14:24 And the king said Let him turndwell toapart in his own house; buthe letis him not seeto come into my facepresence So AbsalomAb′salom turneddwelt toapart in his own house and sawdid not come into the kings facepresence
14:25 Now in all Israel there was noneno toone be so much praisedto asbe Absalompraised for his beauty: as Ab′salom; from the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him
14:26 And when he cut the hair of his head nowfor itat wasthe atend of every yearsyear endhe thatused heto cut it; becausewhen it was heavy on him therefore he cut it; he weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels afterby the kings weight
14:27 AndThere untowere Absalomborn thereto wereAb′salom born three sons and one daughter whose name was Tamar:; she was a beautiful woman of a fair countenance
14:28 AndSo AbsalomAb′salom dwelt two full years in Jerusalem; andwithout hecoming sawinto not the kings facepresence
14:29 Then AbsalomAb′salom sent for JoabJo′ab to send him to the king; but heJo′ab would not come to him: andAnd he sent again a second time but heJo′ab would not come
14:30 ThereforeThen he said untoto his servants See JoabsJo′abs field is nearnext to mine and he hathhas barley there; go and set it on fire AndSo AbsalomsAb′saloms servants set the field on fire
14:31 Then JoabJo′ab arose and camewent to AbsalomAb′salom untoat his house and said untoto him WhereforeWhy have thyyour servants set my field on fire
14:32 AndAb′salom Absalom answered JoabJo′ab Behold I sent untoword theeto sayingyou Come hitherhere that I may send theeyou to the king to sayask WhereforeWhy amhave I come from Geshur itIt werewould be better for me to be there still Now therefore let me seego into the kingspresence faceof the king; and if there beis iniquityguilt in me let him kill me
14:33 SoThen JoabJo′ab camewent to the king and told him; and when he hadsummoned calledAb′salom forSo Absalom he came to the king and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king:; and the king kissed AbsalomAb′salom
15:1 AndAfter it came to pass after this thatAb′salom Absalomgot preparedhimself him a chariot and horses and fifty men to run before him
15:2 And AbsalomAb′salom roseused upto rise early and stoodstand beside the way of the gate:; and it was so that when any man had a suit whichto should come tobefore the king for judgment thenAb′salom Absalomwould calledcall untoto him and saidsay OfFrom what city artare thouyou And when he said ThyYour servant is of onesuch ofand thesuch tribesa oftribe in Israel
15:3 AndAb′salom Absalomwould saidsay untoto him See thyyour mattersclaims are good and right; but there is no man deputed ofby the king to hear theeyou
15:4 AbsalomAb′salom said moreover Oh that I were made judge in the land thatThen every man whowith hatha any suit or cause might come untoto me and I would dogive him justice
15:5 And itwhenever wasa so that when any man came nighnear to do obeisance to him obeisance he would put forthout his hand and tooktake hold of him and kissedkiss him
15:6 AndThus onAb′salom this manner did Absalom to all of Israel thatwho came to the king for judgment:; so AbsalomAb′salom stole the hearts of the men of Israel
15:7 And it came to pass at the end of fortyfour years thatAb′salom Absalom said untoto the king IPray pray thee let me go and pay my vow which I have vowed untoto Jehovahthe Lord in Hebron
15:8 For thyyour servant vowed a vow while I abodedwelt at Geshur in SyriaAram saying If Jehovahthe shallLord will indeed bring me againback to Jerusalem then I will serveoffer Jehovahworship to the Lord
15:9 AndThe the king said untoto him Go in peace So he arose and went to Hebron
15:10 But AbsalomAb′salom sent spiessecret messengers throughout all the tribes of Israel saying As soon as yeyou hear the sound of the trumpet then ye shall say AbsalomAb′salom is king inat Hebron
15:11 AndWith withAb′salom Absalom went two hundred men outfrom of Jerusalem thatwho were invited guests and they went in their simplicity; and they knew notnothing anything
15:12 And Absalomwhile Ab′salom was offering the sacrifices he sent for AhithophelAhith′ophel the GiloniteGi′lonite Davids counsellorcounselor from his city even from Giloh while he was offering the sacrifices And the conspiracy wasgrew strong; forand the people increasedwith continuallyAb′salom withkept Absalomincreasing
15:13 And there came a messenger came to David saying The hearts of the men of Israel arehave gone after AbsalomAb′salom
15:14 AndThen David said untoto all his servants thatwho were with him at Jerusalem Arise and let us flee; foror else nonethere ofwill usbe shallno escape for us from Absalom:Ab′salom; makego speedin tohaste depart lest he overtake us quickly and bring down evil upon us and smite the city with the edge of the sword
15:15 And the kings servants said untoto the king Behold thyyour servants are ready to do whatsoeverwhatever my lord the king shalldecides choose
15:16 AndSo the king went forth and all his household after him And the king left ten women that were concubines to keep the house
15:17 And the king went forth and all the people after him; and they tarriedhalted inat Beththe merhaklast house
15:18 And all his servants passed onby beside him; and all the CherethitesCher′ethites and all the PelethitesPel′ethites and all the Gittites six hundred menGittites thatwho camehad afterfollowed him from Gath passed on before the king
15:19 Then said the king said to IttaiIt′tai the Gittite WhereforeWhy goestdo thouyou also go with us returnGo back and abidestay with the king:; for thouyou artare a foreigner and also an exile; returnfrom toyour thinehome own place
15:20 WhereasYou thoucame camestonly but yesterday shouldand shall I thistoday day make theeyou gowander upabout and down with us seeing I go whither I mayknow returnnot thouwhere Go back and take backyour thybrethren brethrenwith you; mercyand may the Lord show steadfast love and truthfaithfulness beto withyou thee
15:21 AndBut IttaiIt′tai answered the king andAs saidthe AsLord Jehovahlives liveth and as my lord the king livethlives surelywherever in what place my lord the king shall be whether for death or for life even there also will thyyour servant be
15:22 And David said to IttaiIt′tai Go andthen pass overon AndSo IttaiIt′tai the Gittite passed overon andwith all his men and all the little ones thatwho were with him
15:23 And all the country wept withaloud aas loud voice and all the people passed over:by and the king alsocrossed himself passed over the brook Kidron and all the people passed overon toward the way of the wilderness
15:24 And Abi′athar came up and lo Zadok came also camewith and all the Levites with him bearing the ark of the covenant of God; and they set down the ark of God; and Abiathar went up until all the people had doneall passingpassed out of the city
15:25 AndThen the king said untoto Zadok Carry back the ark of God back into the city: ifIf I shall find favor in the eyes of Jehovahthe Lord he will bring me againback and showlet me see both it and his habitation:;
15:26 but if he saysays thus I have no delightpleasure in thee;you behold here I am I let him do to me aswhat seemethseems good untoto him
15:27 The king also said alsoto unto Zadok the priest ArtLook thougo notback ato seer return into the city in peace you and Abi′athar with your two sons withAhim′a youaz Ahimaazyour thy son and Jonathan the son of AbiatharAbi′athar
15:28 See I will tarrywait at the fords of the wilderness until thereword comecomes word from you to certifyinform me
15:29 So Zadok therefore and AbiatharAbi′athar carried the ark of God againback to Jerusalem:; and they aboderemained there
15:30 AndBut David went up by the ascent of the mountMount of Olives andweeping wept as he went up;barefoot and hewith had his head covered; and went barefoot: and all the people thatwho were with him covered everytheir manheads his head and they went up weeping as they went up
15:31 And oneit was told David sayingAhith′ophel Ahithophel is among the conspirators with AbsalomAb′salom And David said O JehovahLord I pray thee turn the counsel of AhithophelAhith′ophel into foolishness
15:32 AndWhen itDavid came to pass that when David was come to the topsummit of the ascent where God was worshippedworshiped behold Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent and earth upon his head
15:33 And David said untoto him If thouyou passestgo on with me thenyou thouwill wilt be a burden untoto me:
15:34 butBut if thouyou return to the city and say untoto AbsalomAb′salom I will be thyyour servant O king; as I have been thyyour fathers servant in time past so willnow I nowwill be thyyour servant; then wiltyou thouwill defeat for me the counsel of AhithophelAhith′ophel
15:35 AndAre hast thou not there with thee Zadok and AbiatharAbi′athar the priests thereforewith ityou shallthere beSo thatwhatever whatyou thing soever thou shalt hear outfrom of the kings house thou shalt tell it to Zadok and AbiatharAbi′athar the priests
15:36 Behold theytheir havetwo theresons are with them theirthere twoAhim′a sonsaz Ahimaaz Zadoks son and Jonathan AbiatharsAbi′athars son; and by them yeyou shall send untoto me everything thatyou ye shall hear
15:37 So Hushai Davids friend came into the city; andjust Absalomas cameAb′salom intowas entering Jerusalem
16:1 AndWhen when David washad passed a little pastbeyond the topsummit of the ascent behold Ziba the servant of MephiboshethMephib′osheth met him with a couple of asses saddled andbearing upon them two hundred loaves of bread and a hundred clustersbunches of raisins and a hundred of summer fruits and a bottleskin of wine
16:2 And the king said untoto Ziba WhatWhy meanesthave thouyou bybrought these And Ziba saidanswered The asses are for the kings household to ride on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine thatfor suchthose aswho are faint in the wilderness mayto drink
16:3 And the king said And where is thyyour masters son And Ziba said untoto the king Behold he abidethremains atin Jerusalem; for he said ToToday day will the house of Israel restorewill give me back the kingdom of my father
16:4 Then said the king said to Ziba Behold thine is all that pertainethbelonged untoto MephiboshethMephib′osheth is now yours And Ziba said I do obeisance; let me ever find favor in thyyour sight my lord Othe king
16:5 AndWhen whenKing king David came to BahurimBahu′rim behold there came out thence a man of the family of the house of Saul whose name was ShimeiShim′e i the son of Gera; and as he came outhe and cursed stillcontinually as he came
16:6 And he castthrew stones at David and at all the servants of kingKing David:; and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left
16:7 And thusShim′e i said Shimeias when he cursed Begone begone thouyou man of blood andyou baseworthless fellow:
16:8 JehovahThe hathLord returnedhas avenged upon theeyou all the blood of the house of Saul in whose steadplace thouyou hasthave reigned; and Jehovahthe hathLord deliveredhas given the kingdom into the hand of Absalomyour thy son; andAb′salom beholdSee thouyour artruin takenis inon thineyou; ownfor mischiefyou becauseare thou art a man of blood
16:9 Then saidAbi′shai Abishai the son of ZeruiahZeru′iah untosaid to the king Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king letLet me go over I pray thee and take off his head
16:10 AndBut the king said What have I to do with you yeyou sons of ZeruiahZeru′iah BecauseIf he cursethis andcursing because Jehovahthe hathLord has said untoto him Curse David; who then shall say WhereforeWhy hasthave thouyou done so
16:11 And David said to AbishaiAbi′shai and to all his servants Behold my own son whoseeks came forth from my bowels seeketh my life:; how much more now may this BenjamiteBenjaminite nowLet do it let him alone and let him curse; for Jehovahthe hathLord has bidden him
16:12 It may be that Jehovahthe Lord will look onupon themy wrongaffliction done unto me and that Jehovahthe Lord will requiterepay me with good for histhis cursing of me thistoday day
16:13 So David and his men went byon the way;road andwhile ShimeiShim′e i went along on the hillhillside sideopposite over against him and cursed as he went and threw stones at him and castflung dust
16:14 And the king and all the people thatwho were with him camearrived weary at the Jordan; and there he refreshed himself there
16:15 AndNow AbsalomAb′salom and all the people the men of Israel came to Jerusalem and AhithophelAhith′ophel with him
16:16 And it came to pass when Hushai the Archite Davids friend wascame cometo untoAb′salom Absalom that Hushai said untoto AbsalomAb′salom Long live the king Long live the king
16:17 And AbsalomAb′salom said to Hushai Is this thyyour kindnessloyalty to thyyour friend whyWhy wentestdid thouyou not go with thyyour friend
16:18 And Hushai said untoto AbsalomAb′salom NayNo; butfor whom Jehovahthe Lord and this people and all the men of Israel have chosen his I will I be and with him I will Iremain abide
16:19 And again whom should I serve shouldShould Iit not servebe in the presence of his son asAs I have served inyour thyfather fathers presence so will I bewill inserve thy presenceyou
16:20 Then Ab′salom said Absalom to AhithophelAhith′ophel Give your counsel; what shall we shall do
16:21 AndAhith′ophel Ahithophel said untoto AbsalomAb′salom Go in untoto thyyour fathers concubines thatwhom he hathhas left to keep the house; and all Israel will hear that thouyou arthave abhorredmade ofyourself thyodious to your father: thenand will the hands of all thatwho are with theeyou will be strongstrengthened
16:22 So they spreadpitched Absalom a tent uponfor theAb′salom topupon of the houseroof; and AbsalomAb′salom went in untoto his fathers concubines in the sight of all Israel
16:23 AndNow in those days the counsel of Ahithophel which heAhith′ophel gave in those days was as if aone manconsulted inquired at the oracle of God:; so was all the counsel of AhithophelAhith′ophel esteemed both withby David and withby AbsalomAb′salom
17:1 Moreover AhithophelAhith′ophel said untoto AbsalomAb′salom Let me now choose out twelve thousand men and I will ariseset out and pursue after David thistonight night:
17:2 and I will come upon him while he is weary and weakdiscouraged handed and willthrow make him afraidinto a panic; and all the people thatwho are with him shallwill flee; and I will smitestrike down the king only;
17:3 and I will bring back all the people untoback thee:to theyou manas whoma thoubride seekestcomes ishome asto ifher allhusband returned:You soseek the life of only one man and all the people shallwill be inat peace
17:4 And the sayingadvice pleased AbsalomAb′salom well and all the elders of Israel
17:5 Then Ab′salom said Absalom Call now Hushai the Archite also and let us hear likewise what he saithhas to say
17:6 And when Hushai wascame come to AbsalomAb′salom AbsalomAb′salom spakesaid untoto him sayingThus Ahithophelhas hathAhith′ophel spoken; after this manner: shall we do afteras hishe sayingadvises ifIf not you speak thou
17:7 AndThen Hushai said untoto AbsalomAb′salom TheThis time the counsel thatwhich AhithophelAhith′ophel hathhas given this time is not good
17:8 Hushai said moreover ThouYou knowestknow thythat your father and his men that they are mighty men and that they are chafedenraged inlike their minds as a bear robbed of her whelpscubs in the field; andBesides thyyour father is aexpert manin of war; andhe will not lodgespend the night with the people
17:9 Behold even now he ishas hidhidden nowhimself in someone pitof the pits or in some other place: andAnd it will come to pass when some of themthe arepeople fallenfall at the first thatattack whosoeverwhoever hearethhears it will say There ishas been a slaughter among the people thatwho follow AbsalomAb′salom
17:10 AndThen even hethe thatvaliant isman valiant whose heart is aslike the heart of a lion will utterly melt with fear; for all Israel knowethknows that thyyour father is a mighty man and they that those who are with him are valiant men
17:11 But Imy counsel is that all Israel be gathered togetherto untoyou thee from Dan even to Beer sheba as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that thouyou go to battle in thine own person
17:12 So we shall we come upon him in some place where he shallis to be found and we willshall light upon him as the dew fallethfalls on the ground; and of him and of all the men that are with him we will not leaveone sowill muchbe asleft one
17:13 MoreoverIf if he bewithdraws gotten into a city then shall all Israel will bring ropes to that city and we willshall drawdrag it into the rivervalley until therenot beeven nota onepebble smallis stoneto be found there
17:14 And AbsalomAb′salom and all the men of Israel said The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of AhithophelAhith′ophel For Jehovahthe Lord had ordained to defeat the good counsel of AhithophelAhith′ophel toso that the intentLord that Jehovah might bring evil upon AbsalomAb′salom
17:15 Then Hushai said Hushaito unto Zadok and toAbi′athar Abiathar the priests Thus and thusso did AhithophelAhith′ophel counsel AbsalomAb′salom and the elders of Israel; and thus and thusso have I counselledcounseled
17:16 Now therefore send quickly and tell David sayingDo Lodge not thislodge nighttonight at the fords of the wilderness but by all means pass over; lest the king be swallowed up and all the people thatwho are with him be swallowed up
17:17 Now Jonathan and AhimaazAhim′a az were stayingwaiting byat En rogelro′gel; and a maidmaidservant servant used to go and tell them; and they wentwould go and toldtell kingKing David:; for they mightmust not be seen toentering come into the city
17:18 But a lad saw them and told Absalom:Ab′salom; andso they went both of them went away quickly and came to the house of a man inat BahurimBahu′rim who had a well in his courtcourtyard; and they went down thitherinto it
17:19 And the woman took and spread thea covering over the wells mouth and strewedscattered bruised grain thereonupon it; and nothing was known of it
17:20 AndWhen AbsalomsAb′saloms servants came to the woman toat the house; and they said Where are AhimaazAhim′a az and Jonathan And the woman said untoto them They arehave gone over the brook of water And when they had sought and could not find them they returned to Jerusalem
17:21 AndAfter it came to pass after they werehad departedgone thatthe theymen came up out of the well and went and told kingKing David; andThey they said untoto David Arise ye and passgo quickly over the water; for thus hathand Ahithophelso counselledhas Ahith′ophel counseled against you
17:22 Then David arose and all the people thatwho were with him and they passedcrossed over the Jordan:; by thedaybreak morning light there lacked not one ofwas themleft thatwho washad not gonecrossed over the Jordan
17:23 AndWhen whenAhith′ophel Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed he saddled his ass and arosewent andoff gat him home untoto his own city andAnd he set his house in order and hanged himself; and he died and was buried in the sepulchretomb of his father
17:24 Then David came to MahanaimMahana′im And AbsalomAb′salom passedcrossed over the Jordan hewith and all the men of Israel with him
17:25 AndNow AbsalomAb′salom had set AmasaAma′sa over the hostarmy instead of JoabJo′ab NowAma′sa Amasa was the son of a man whosenamed name was Ithra the IsraeliteIsh′maelite thatwho wenthad inmarried toAb′igal Abigal the daughter of Nahash sister toof ZeruiahZeru′iah JoabsJo′abs mother
17:26 And Israel and AbsalomAb′salom encamped in the land of Gilead
17:27 AndWhen itDavid came to passMahana′im when David was come to Mahanaim that Shobi the son of Nahash offrom Rabbah of the childrenAmmonites of Ammon and Machir the son of AmmielAm′miel offrom Lo debar and BarzillaiBarzil′lai the Gileadite offrom RogelimRo′gelim
17:28 brought beds and basins and earthen vessels and wheat and barley and meal and parched grain and beans and lentils and parched pulse
17:29 and honey and buttercurds and sheep and cheese offrom the herd for David and for the people that were with him to eat:; for they said The people are hungry and weary and thirsty in the wilderness
18:1 AndThen David numberedmustered the peoplemen thatwho were with him and set captainsover them commanders of thousands and captainscommanders of hundreds over them
18:2 And David sent forth the peoplearmy aone third part under the handcommand of JoabJo′ab andone a third part under the handcommand of AbishaiAbi′shai the son of ZeruiahZeru′iah JoabsJo′abs brother and aone third part under the handcommand of IttaiIt′tai the Gittite And the king said untoto the peoplemen I myself will surelyalso go forthout with you myself also
18:3 But the peoplemen said ThouYou shaltshall not go forth:out forFor if we flee away they will not care forabout us; neitherIf if half of us die they will theynot care forabout us: butBut thouyou artare worth ten thousand of us; therefore now it is better that thouyou besend ready to succor us outhelp offrom the city
18:4 AndThe the king said untoto them WhatWhatever seemethseems best to you best I will do AndSo the king stood byat the side of the gate sidewhile and all the peoplearmy wentmarched out by hundreds and by thousands
18:5 And the king commandedordered JoabJo′ab and AbishaiAbi′shai and IttaiIt′tai saying Deal gently for my sake with the young man evenAb′salom with Absalom And all the people heard when the king gave orders to all the captainscommanders chargeabout concerning AbsalomAb′salom
18:6 So the peoplearmy went out into the field against Israel:; and the battle was fought in the forest of EphraimE′phraim
18:7 And the peoplemen of Israel were smittendefeated there beforeby the servants of David and the slaughter there was a great slaughteron there that day of twenty thousand men
