Paul andSilva′nus Silvanus and Timothy untoTo the church of the ThessaloniansThessalo′nians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace |
| 1:2 |
We give thanks to God always for you all makingconstantly mentionmentioning of you in our prayers; |
| 1:3 |
remembering withoutbefore ceasingour God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and patiencesteadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ before our God and Father; |
| 1:4 |
knowingFor we know brethren beloved ofby God yourthat electionhe has chosen you; |
| 1:5 |
howfor that our gospel came to you not untoonly you in word only but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and inwith muchfull assurance;conviction evenYou as ye know what mannerkind of men we showedproved ourselvesto towardbe among you for your sake |
| 1:6 |
And yeyou became imitators of us and of the Lord havingfor you received the word in much affliction with joy ofinspired by the Holy Spirit; |
| 1:7 |
so that yeyou became an ensampleexample to all thatthe believebelievers in MacedoniaMacedo′nia and in AchaiaAcha′ia |
| 1:8 |
For fromnot youonly hathhas sounded forth the word of the Lord notsounded onlyforth from you in MacedoniaMacedo′nia and AchaiaAcha′ia but in every place your faith toin God wardhas is gone forth; everywhere so that we need not tosay speak anything |
| 1:9 |
For they themselves report concerning us what mannera ofwelcome entering in we had untoamong you; and how yeyou turned untoto God from idols to serve a living and true God |
| 1:10 |
and to wait for his Son from heaven whom he raised from the dead even Jesus who deliverethdelivers us from the wrath to come |
| 2:1 |
For you yourselves know brethren knowthat our enteringvisit into unto you thatwas it hath not beenin found vain:; |
| 2:2 |
but havingthough we had already suffered before and been shamefully treated at Philippi as yeyou know at Philippi we waxedhad boldcourage in our God to speakdeclare untoto you the gospel of God in muchthe conflictface of great opposition |
| 2:3 |
For our exhortationappeal isdoes not ofspring from error noror of uncleanness nor inis it made with guile:; |
| 2:4 |
but evenjust as we have been approved ofby God to be intrustedentrusted with the gospel so we speak; not asto pleasingplease men but to please God who provethtests our hearts |
| 2:5 |
For neitherwe atnever anyused timeeither were we found using words of flattery as yeyou know noror a cloak offor covetousnessgreed as God is witness; |
| 2:6 |
nor seekingdid we seek glory offrom men neitherwhether from you noror from others whenthough we might have claimedmade authoritydemands as apostles of Christ |
| 2:7 |
But we were gentle inamong the midst of you aslike when a nurse cherishethtaking care of her own children: |
| 2:8 |
evenSo so being affectionately desirous of you we were wellready pleased to impartshare untowith you not only the gospel of God only but also our own soulsselves because yeyou werehad become very dear to us |
| 2:9 |
For yeyou remember brethren our labor and travail:toil workingbrethren; we worked night and day that we might not burden any of you while we preached untoto you the gospel of God |
| 2:10 |
YeYou are witnesses and God also how holilyholy and righteouslyrighteous and unblamablyblameless wewas behavedour ourselvesbehavior towardto you thatbelievers; believe: |
| 2:11 |
asfor yeyou know how welike dealt with each one of you as a father with his own children exhortingwe exhorted each one of you and encouragingencouraged you and testifyingcharged you |
| 2:12 |
to thelead enda thatlife yeworthy should walk worthily of God who callethcalls you into his own kingdom and glory |
| 2:13 |
And for this cause we also thank God withoutconstantly ceasingfor this that when yeyou received from us the word of theGod messagewhich evenyou theheard wordfrom ofus Godyou ye accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is in truth the word of God which alsois workethat work in you thatbelievers believe |
| 2:14 |
For yeyou brethren became imitators of the churches of God in Christ Jesus which are in JudaeaJudea; in Christ Jesus: for yeyou also suffered the same things offrom your own countrymen even as they did offrom the Jews; |
| 2:15 |
who killed both killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets and drove us out us and pleasedisplease not God and areoppose contrary to all men; |
| 2:16 |
forbiddingby hindering us tofrom speakspeaking to the Gentiles that they may be saved;—so as always to fill up the measure of their sins always:But butGods the wrath ishas come upon them toat the uttermostlast |
| 2:17 |
But since we brethrenwere beingbereft bereaved of you brethren for a short seasontime in presenceperson not in heart we endeavored the more exceedinglyeagerly and with great desire to see youryou face withto greatface; desire: |
| 2:18 |
because we wouldwanted fainto have come untoto you —I Paul onceagain and again;—but and Satan hindered us |
| 2:19 |
For what is our hope or joy or crown of gloryingboasting Are not even ye before our Lord Jesus at his coming Is it not you |
| 2:20 |
For yeyou are our glory and our joy |
| 3:1 |
WhereforeTherefore when we could bear it no longer forbear we thoughtwere itwilling good to be left behind at Athens alone; |
| 3:2 |
and we sent Timothy our brother and Gods ministerservant in the gospel of Christ to establish you in your faith and to comfortexhort you concerning your faith; |
| 3:3 |
that no manone be moved by these afflictions; forYou yourselves know that hereuntothis weis areto appointedbe our lot |
| 3:4 |
For verily when we were with you we told you beforehand that we arewere to suffer affliction; evenjust as it camehas come to pass and yeas you know |
| 3:5 |
For this causereason I also when I could bear it no longer forbearI sent that I might know your faith lestfor byfear anythat meanssomehow the tempter had tempted you and that our labor shouldwould be in vain |
| 3:6 |
But whennow that Timothy camehas evencome nowto unto us from you and has brought us gladthe tidingsgood news of your faith and love and reported that yeyou havealways goodremember remembranceus ofkindly usand alwayslong longing to see us even as we alsolong to see you;— |
| 3:7 |
for this causereason brethren we were comforted over you in all our distress and affliction we have been comforted about you through your faith:; |
| 3:8 |
for now we live if yeyou stand fast in the Lord |
| 3:9 |
For what thanksgiving can we render againto unto God for you for all the joy wherewithwhich we joyfeel for your sakessake before our God; |
| 3:10 |
praying earnestly night and day praying exceedingly that we may see youryou face andto mayface perfectand thatsupply whichwhat is lacking in your faith |
| 3:11 |
Now may our God and Father himself and our Lord Jesus direct our way untoto you:; |
| 3:12 |
and may the Lord make you to increase and abound in love to one toward another and towardto all men even as we also do towardto you; |
| 3:13 |
toso thethat end he may establish your hearts unblamable in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints |
| 4:1 |
Finally then brethren we beseech and exhort you in the Lord Jesus that as yeyou receivedlearned offrom us how yeyou ought to walklive and to please God evenjust as yeyou doare walk—thatdoing yeyou abounddo so more and more |
| 4:2 |
For yeyou know what chargeinstructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus |
| 4:3 |
For this is the will of God even your sanctification: that yeyou abstain from fornicationunchastity; |
| 4:4 |
that each one of you know how to possesstake himselfa ofwife hisfor ownhimself vessel in sanctificationholiness and honor |
| 4:5 |
not in the passion of lust evenlike asheathen thewho Gentilesdo whonot know not God; |
| 4:6 |
that no man transgress and wrong his brother in thethis matter: because the Lord is an avenger in all these things as also we solemnly forewarned you and testified |
| 4:7 |
For God has not called us not for uncleanness but in sanctificationholiness |
| 4:8 |
Therefore hewhoever thatdisregards rejecteththis rejectethdisregards not man but God who givethgives his Holy Spirit untoto you |
| 4:9 |
But concerning love of the brethren yeyou have no need thatto have any one write untoto you: for yeyou yourselves arehave been taught ofby God to love one another; |
| 4:10 |
forand indeed yeyou do itlove toward all the brethren thatthroughout areMacedo′nia in all Macedonia But we exhort you brethren thatto yedo aboundso more and more; |
| 4:11 |
andto thataspire ye study to belive quietquietly and to domind your own businessaffairs and to work with your hands even as we charged you; |
| 4:12 |
so that yeyou may walkcommand becominglythe towardrespect themof thatoutsiders are without and maybe havedependent needon of nothingnobody |
| 4:13 |
But we would not have you ignorant brethren concerning themthose thatwho fallare asleep; that yeyou sorrowmay not evengrieve as theothers restdo who have no hope |
| 4:14 |
For ifsince we believe that Jesus died and rose again even so themthrough alsoJesus thatGod arewill fallenbring asleepwith inhim Jesusthose willwho Godhave bringfallen withasleep him |
| 4:15 |
For this we saydeclare untoto you by the word of the Lord that we thatwho are alive thatwho are left untountil the coming of the Lord shall innot no wise precede themthose thatwho arehave fallen asleep |
| 4:16 |
For the Lord himself shallwill descend from heaven with a shoutcry of command with the voicearchangels ofcall the archangel and with the trumpsound of the trumpet of God: andAnd the dead in Christ shallwill rise first; |
| 4:17 |
then we thatwho are alive thatwho are left shall be caught up together with them be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air:; and so we shall wealways ever be with the Lord |
| 4:18 |
WhereforeTherefore comfort one another with these words |
| 5:1 |
But concerningas to the times and the seasons brethren yeyou have no need thatto aughthave beanything written untoto you |
| 5:2 |
For you yourselves know perfectlywell that the day of the Lord sowill comethcome aslike a thief in the night |
| 5:3 |
When theypeople aresay sayingThere Peaceis peace and safetysecurity then sudden destruction comethwill come upon them as travail comes upon a woman with child; and theythere shallwill inbe no wise escape |
| 5:4 |
But yeyou brethren are not in darkness thatbrethren for that day shouldto overtakesurprise you aslike a thief: |
| 5:5 |
forFor yeyou are all sons of light and sons of the day:; we are not of the night noror of darkness; |
| 5:6 |
soSo then let us not sleep as others do the rest but let us watchkeep awake and be sober |
| 5:7 |
For theythose thatwho sleep sleep inat the night; and theythose thatwho areget drunkendrunk are drunkendrunk inat the night |
| 5:8 |
But let us since we arebelong ofto the day let us be sober puttingand put on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet the hope of salvation |
| 5:9 |
For God appointedhas not destined us notfor unto wrath but untoto theobtain obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ |
| 5:10 |
who died for us so that whether we wake or sleep we shouldmight live together with him |
| 5:11 |
WhereforeTherefore exhortencourage one another and build eachone otheranother up evenjust as alsoyou yeare dodoing |
| 5:12 |
But we beseech you brethren to knowrespect themthose thatwho labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you; |
| 5:13 |
and to esteem them exceedingvery highly in love forbecause of their workswork sake Be at peace among yourselves |
| 5:14 |
And we exhort you brethren admonish the disorderlyidlers encourage the faintfainthearted heartedhelp support the weak be longsufferingpatient towardwith them all |
| 5:15 |
See that none renderof untoyou anyrepays one evil for evil; but always followseek afterto thatdo whichgood isto good one toward another and towardto all |
| 5:16 |
Rejoice always; |
| 5:17 |
pray withoutconstantly ceasing; |
| 5:18 |
give thanks in everythingall givecircumstances; thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus tofor you ward |
| 5:19 |
