4:15 Now Eli was ninety and eight years old; and his eyes were set so that he could not see
4:16 And the man said untoto Eli I am he thatwho camehas outcome offrom the armybattle; and I fled tofrom daythe outbattle oftoday the army And he said How wentdid theit mattergo my son
4:17 AndHe hewho that brought the tidings answered and said Israel ishas fled before the Philistines and there hathhas also been also a great slaughter among the people; andyour thy two sons also Hophni and PhinehasPhin′ehas are dead and the ark of God ishas takenbeen captured

5:3 And when theythe people of Ashdod aroserose early on the morrownext day behold Dagon washad fallen uponface hisdownward faceon to the ground before the ark of Jehovahthe AndLord So they took Dagon and setput him back in his place again

5:5 ThereforeThis neitheris why the priests of Dagon norand anyall thatwho comeenter intothe Dagons house of Dagon do not tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod untoto this day
5:6 ButThe the hand of Jehovahthe Lord was heavy upon themthe people of Ashdod and he destroyedterrified them and smoteafflicted them with tumors evenboth Ashdod and theits bordersterritory thereof
5:7 And when the men of Ashdod saw thathow itthings waswere so they said The ark of the God of Israel shallmust not abideremain with us; for his hand is soreheavy upon us and upon Dagon our god
5:8 TheySo they sent therefore and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines unto them and said What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel AndThey they answered Let the ark of the God of Israel be carriedbrought aboutaround untoto Gath AndSo they carriedbrought the ark of the God of Israel thitherthere

6:4 ThenAnd they said they What shallis be the trespassguilt offering whichthat we shall return to him AndThey theyanswered said Five golden tumors and five golden mice according to the number of the lords of the Philistines; for onethe same plague was onupon all of you all and onupon your lords
6:5 WhereforeSo yeyou shallmust make images of your tumors and images of your mice that marravage the land; and ye shall give glory untoto the God of Israel:; peradventureperhaps he will lighten his hand from off you and from off your gods and from off your land
6:6 WhereforeWhy thenshould doyou ye harden your hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts WhenAfter he had wroughtmade wonderfullysport amongof them did not they not let the people go and they departed
6:7 Now thereforethen take and prepare you a new cart and two milch kinecows onupon which there hathhas never come noa yoke; and tieyoke the kinecows to the cart andbut bringtake their calves home away from them;
6:8 andAnd take the ark of Jehovahthe Lord and layplace it uponon the cart; and put in a box at its side the jewelsfigures of gold which yeyou returnare returning to him foras a trespassguilt offering inThen asend cofferit byoff the side thereof; and sendlet it awaygo thatits itway may go
6:9 And seewatch; if it goethgoes up byon the way ofto its own borderland to Beth shemeshshe′mesh then it is he hathwho has done us this great evil:harm; but if not then we shall know that it is not his hand that smotestruck us; it was a chance that happened to us by chance
6:10 AndThe the men did so and took two milch kinecows and tiedyoked them to the cart and shut up their calves at home;
6:11 andAnd they put the ark of Jehovahthe uponLord on the cart and the cofferbox with the golden mice of gold and the images of their tumors

6:15 And the Levites took down the ark of Jehovahthe Lord and the cofferbox that was withbeside it whereinin thewhich jewelswere ofthe goldgolden werefigures and putset them onupon the great stone:; and the men of Beth shemeshshe′mesh offered burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices theon samethat day untoto Jehovahthe Lord
6:16 And when the five lords of the Philistines hadsaw seen it they returned that day to Ekron the same day
6:17 AndThese these are the golden tumors which the Philistines returned foras a trespassguilt offering untoto Jehovahthe Lord: one for Ashdod one for Gaza one for AshkelonAsh′kelon one for Gath one for Ekron one;
6:18 andalso the golden mice according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five lords both of fortified cities and ofunwalled country villages evenThe unto the great stone whereonbeside which they set down the ark of Jehovahthe whichLord stoneis remainetha untowitness to this day in the field of Joshua theof Beth shemiteshe′mesh
6:19 And he smoteslew some of the men of Beth shemeshshe′mesh because they had looked into the ark of Jehovahthe Lord; he smoteslew of the people seventy men andof fiftythem thousand men; and the people mourned because Jehovahthe Lord had smittenmade the people with a great slaughter among the people
6:20 AndThen the men of Beth shemeshshe′mesh said Who is able to stand before Jehovahthe Lord this holy God andAnd to whom shall he go up away from us
6:21 AndSo they sent messengers to the inhabitants of KiriathKir′iath jearimje′arim saying The Philistines have broughtreturned back the ark of Jehovah;the comeLord yeCome down and fetchtake it up to you
7:1 And the men of KiriathKir′iath jearimje′arim came and fetchedtook up the ark of Jehovahthe Lord and brought it intoto the house of AbinadabAbin′adab inon the hill; and sanctifiedthey Eleazarconsecrated his son Elea′zar to keephave charge of the ark of Jehovahthe Lord
7:2 AndFrom it came to pass from the day that the ark abodewas inlodged Kiriathat jearimKir′iath thatje′arim thea time was long; fortime itpassed wassome twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after Jehovahthe Lord

7:5 AndThen Samuel said Gather all Israel toat Mizpah and I will pray to the Lord for you unto Jehovah
7:6 AndSo they gathered togetherat to Mizpah and drew water and poured it out before Jehovahthe Lord and fasted on that day and said there We have sinned against Jehovahthe Lord And Samuel judged the childrenpeople of Israel inat Mizpah

7:14 AndThe the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel from Ekron evento unto Gath; and theIsrael borderrescued thereoftheir didterritory Israelfrom deliver out of the hand of the Philistines AndThere there was peace also between Israel and the Amorites
7:15 And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life
7:16 And he went fromon yeara tocircuit year inby circuityear to BethBethel el and Gilgal and Mizpah; and he judged Israel in all thosethese places
7:17 AndThen hishe returnwould wascome back to Ramah for therehis home was histhere house; and there also he judgedadministered justice to Israel: andAnd he built there an altar untoto Jehovahthe Lord
8:1 AndWhen it came to pass when Samuel wasbecame old that he made his sons judges over Israel
8:2 NowThe the name of his first born son was Joel;Jo′el and the name of his second Abijah:Abi′jah; they were judges in Beer sheba
8:3 AndYet his sons walkeddid not walk in his ways but turned aside after lucregain; andthey took bribes and perverted justice
8:4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together and came to Samuel untoat Ramah;
8:5 and they said untoto him Behold thouyou artare old and thyyour sons walkdo not walk in thyyour ways:; now makeappoint for us a king to judgegovern us like all the nations
8:6 But the thing displeased Samuel when they said Give us a king to judgegovern us And Samuel prayed untoto Jehovahthe Lord
8:7 And Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Samuel Hearken untoto the voice of the people in all that they say untoto theeyou; for they have not rejected theeyou but they have rejected me thatfrom Ibeing should not be king over them
8:8 According to all the worksdeeds which they have done sinceto me from the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even untoto this day inforsaking that they have forsaken me and servedserving other gods so do they are also untodoing theeto you
8:9 Now thereforethen hearken untoto their voice:; howbeitonly thouyou shaltshall protest solemnly untowarn them and shalt show them the mannerways of the king thatwho shall reign over them

8:18 And yein shallthat cryday outyou inwill thatcry dayout because of your king whom yeyou shall have chosen youfor yourselves; andbut Jehovahthe Lord will not answer you in that day
8:19 But the people refused to hearkenlisten untoto the voice of Samuel; and they said Nay:No but we will have a king over us
8:20 that we also may be like all the nations and that our king may judgegovern us and go out before us and fight our battles
8:21 And when Samuel had heard all the words of the people and he rehearsedrepeated them in the ears of Jehovahthe Lord

12:3 Here I am:; witnesstestify against me before Jehovahthe Lord and before his anointed: whoseWhose ox have I taken orOr whose ass have I taken orOr whom have I defrauded whomWhom have I oppressed orOr offrom whose hand have I taken a ransombribe to blind minemy eyes therewithwith it Testify gainst me and I will restore it to you
12:4 AndThey they said ThouYou hasthave not defrauded us noror oppressed us neitheror hast thou taken aughtanything offrom any mans hand
12:5 And he said untoto them JehovahThe Lord is witness against you and his anointed is witness this day that yeyou have not found aughtanything in my hand And they said He is witness
12:6 And Samuel said untoto the people ItThe Lord is Jehovahwitness thatwho appointed Moses and Aaron and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt
12:7 Now therefore stand still that I may plead with you before Jehovahthe Lord concerning all the righteoussaving actsdeeds of Jehovahthe Lord which he didperformed tofor you and tofor your fathers
12:8 When Jacob waswent come into Egypt and the Egyptians oppressed them then your fathers cried untoto Jehovahthe thenLord Jehovahand the Lord sent Moses and Aaron who brought forth your fathers out of Egypt and made them to dwell in this place
12:9 But they forgatforgot Jehovahthe Lord their God; and he sold them into the hand of SiseraSis′era captaincommander of the hostarmy of Jabin king of Hazor and into the hand of the Philistines and into the hand of the king of Moab; and they fought against them
12:10 And they cried untoto Jehovahthe Lord and said We have sinned because we have forsaken Jehovahthe Lord and have served the BaalimBa′als and the Ashtaroth:Ash′taroth; but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies and we will serve thee

12:14 If yeyou will fear Jehovahthe Lord and serve him and hearken untoto his voice and not rebel against the commandment of Jehovahthe Lord and if both yeyou and also the king thatwho reignethreigns over you bewill followersfollow ofthe JehovahLord your God it will be well:;
12:15 but if yeyou will not hearken untoto the voice of Jehovahthe Lord but rebel against the commandment of Jehovahthe Lord then will the hand of Jehovahthe Lord will be against you asand it was against your fathersking

12:17 Is it not wheat harvest totoday day I will call untoupon Jehovahthe Lord that he may send thunder and rain; and yeyou shall know and see that your wickedness is great which yeyou have done in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord in asking youfor yourselves a king
12:18 So Samuel called untoupon Jehovah;the Lord and Jehovahthe Lord sent thunder and rain that day:; and all the people greatly feared Jehovahthe Lord and Samuel
12:19 And all the people said untoto Samuel Pray for thyyour servants untoto Jehovahthe thyLord your God that we diemay not die; for we have added untoto all our sins this evil to ask usfor ourselves a king
12:20 And Samuel said untoto the people Fear not:; yeyou have indeed done all this evil; yet turndo not turn aside from following Jehovahthe Lord but serve Jehovahthe Lord with all your heart:;

13:1 Saul was    [forty] years old when he began to reign; and when he had reigned    and two years over Israel
13:2 Saul chose him three thousand men of Israel; whereof two thousand were with Saul in Michmash and in the mounthill country of BethBethel el and a thousand were with Jonathan in GibeahGib′e ah of Benjamin:; and the rest of the people he sent home every man to his tent
13:3 And Jonathan smotedefeated the garrison of the Philistines thatwhich was inat Geba; and the Philistines heard of it And Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land saying Let the Hebrews hear
13:4 And all Israel heard sayit said that Saul had smittendefeated the garrison of the Philistines and also that Israel was had inbecome abominationodious withto the Philistines And the people were gatheredcalled togetherout afterto join Saul toat Gilgal
13:5 And the Philistines assembledmustered themselves together to fight with Israel thirty thousand chariots and six thousand horsemen and peopletroops aslike the sand which is on the seaseashore shore in multitude:; and they came up and encamped in Michmash eastwardto the east of Beth avena′ven
13:6 When the men of Israel saw that they were in astraits strait for the people were distressedhard thenpressed the people didhid hide themselves in caves and in thicketsholes and in rocks and in covertstombs and in pitscisterns
13:7 Nowor somecrossed of the Hebrewsfords hadof gone over the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead; but as for Saul he was yetstill inat Gilgal and all the people followed him trembling
13:8 AndHe hewaited tarried seven days according to the set time thatappointed by Samuel; had appointed: but Samuel camedid not come to Gilgal; and the people were scatteredscattering from him
13:9 AndSo Saul said Bring hither the burnt offering here to me and the peace offerings And he offered the burnt offering
13:10 AndAs it came to pass that as soon as he had madefinished an end of offering the burnt offering behold Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him thatand he might salute him
13:11 And Samuel said What hasthave thouyou done And Saul said BecauseWhen I saw that the people were scatteredscattering from me and that thouyou camestdid not come within the days appointed and that the Philistines assembledhad themselvesmustered together at Michmash;
13:12 thereforeI said I Now will the Philistines will come down upon me toat Gilgal and I have not entreated the favor of Jehovah:the Lord; so I forced myself therefore and offered the burnt offering
13:13 And Samuel said to Saul ThouYou hasthave done foolishly; thouyou hasthave not kept the commandment of Jehovahthe thyLord your God which he commanded thee:you; for now the Lord would Jehovah have established thyyour kingdom uponover Israel for ever
13:14 But now thyyour kingdom shall not continue:; Jehovahthe hathLord has sought himout a man after his own heart; and Jehovahthe hathLord has appointed him to be prince over his people because thouyou hasthave not kept thatwhat whichthe JehovahLord commanded theeyou
13:15 And Samuel arose and gatwent him up from Gilgal untoto GibeahGib′e ah of Benjamin And Saul numbered the people thatwho were present with him about six hundred men
13:16 And Saul and Jonathan his son and the people thatwho were present with them abodestayed in Geba of Benjamin:; but the Philistines encamped in Michmash
13:17 And theraiders spoilers came out of the camp of the Philistines in three companies:; one company turned untotoward theOphrah way that leadeth to Ophrah unto the land of Shual;Shu′al
13:18 and another company turned thetoward way to Beth horon;hor′on and another company turned thetoward way of the border that lookethlooks down upon the valley of ZeboimZebo′im toward the wilderness
13:19 Now there was no smith to be found throughout all the land of Israel; for the Philistines said Lest the Hebrews make themthemselves swords or spears:;
13:20 but allevery one of the Israelites went down to the Philistines to sharpen every man his shareplowshare and his coultermattock and his axe andor his mattocksickle;
13:21 yetand theythe hadcharge was a filepim for the mattocksplowshares and for the coultersmattocks and fora thethird forksof anda shekel for sharpening the axes and tofor setsetting the goads
13:22 So iton came to pass in the day of the battle that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people that were with Saul and Jonathan:; but with Saul and with Jonathan his son washad therethem found
13:23 And the garrison of the Philistines went out untoto the pass of Michmash
14:1 NowOne it fell upon a day that Jonathan the son of Saul said untoto the young man thatwho barebore his armor Come and let us go over to the PhilistinesPhilistine garrison that is on yonder side But he tolddid not tell his father
14:2 And Saul abodewas staying in the uttermostoutskirts part of GibeahGib′e ah under the pomegranate tree which is inat Migron:; and the people thatwho were with him were about six hundred men;
14:3 and AhijahAhi′jah the son of AhitubAhi′tub IchabodsIch′abods brother the son of PhinehasPhin′ehas the son of Eli the priest of Jehovahthe Lord in Shiloh wearing an ephod And the people knewdid not know that Jonathan washad gone
14:4 AndIn between the passespass by which Jonathan sought to go over untoto the PhilistinesPhilistine garrison there was a rocky crag on the one side and a rocky crag on the other side:; and the name of the one was Bozez and the name of the other Seneh
14:5 The one crag rose up on the north in front of Michmash and the other on the south in front of Geba
14:6 And Jonathan said to the young man thatwho barebore his armor Come and let us go over untoto the garrison of these uncircumcised:; it may be that Jehovahthe Lord will work for us; for therenothing iscan nohinder restraintthe toLord Jehovahfrom tosaving save by many or by few
14:7 And his armorbearerarmor bearer said untoto him Do all that isyour inmind thyinclines heart:to; turn thee behold I am with theeyou accordingas tois thyyour heartmind so is mine
14:8 Then said Jonathan Behold we will passcross over untoto the men and we will discloseshow ourselves untoto them
14:9 If they say thusto unto us TarryWait until we come to you; then we will stand still in our place and we will not go up untoto them
14:10 But if they say thus Come up untoto us; then we will go up; for Jehovahthe hathLord deliveredhas given them into our hand: andAnd this shall be the sign untoto us
14:11 AndSo both of them disclosedshowed themselves untoto the garrison of the Philistines:; and the Philistines said BeholdLook the Hebrews comeare forthcoming out of the holes where they hadhave hid themselves
14:12 And the men of the garrison answeredhailed Jonathan and his armorbearerarmor bearer and said Come up to us and we will show you a thing And Jonathan said untoto his armorbearerarmor bearer Come up after me; for Jehovahthe hathLord deliveredhas given them into the hand of Israel
14:13 AndThen Jonathan climbed up uponon his hands and upon his feet and his armorbearerarmor bearer after him: andAnd they fell before Jonathan; and his armorbearerarmor slewbearer killed them after him;
14:14 Andand that first slaughter which Jonathan and his armorbearerarmor bearer made was of about twenty men within as it were half a furrows length in an acre of land
14:15 And there was a tremblingpanic in the camp in the field and among all the people; the garrison and even the spoilersraiders they also trembled; and the earth quaked:; soand thereit wasbecame ana exceedingvery great tremblingpanic
14:16 And the watchmen of Saul in GibeahGib′e ah of Benjamin looked; and behold the multitude meltedwas awaysurging and they went hither and thither
14:17 Then Saul said Saulto unto the people thatwho were with him Number now and see who ishas gone from us And when they had numbered behold Jonathan and his armorbearerarmor bearer were not there
14:18 And Saul said untoto AhijahAhi′jah Bring hither the ark of God For the ark of God waswent there at that time with the childrenpeople of Israel
14:19 And it came to pass while Saul talkedwas untotalking to the priest that the tumult that was in the camp of the Philistines wentincreased onmore and increased:more; and Saul said untoto the priest Withdraw thyyour hand
14:20 AndThen Saul and all the people thatwho were with him wererallied gathered together and camewent tointo the battle:; and behold every mans sword was against his fellow and there was a very great discomfitureconfusion
14:21 Now the Hebrews thatwho werehad been with the Philistines asbefore beforetimethat time and thatwho wenthad gone up with them into the camp from the country round about even they also turned to be with the Israelites thatwho were with Saul and Jonathan
14:22 Likewise when all the men of Israel thatwho had hid themselves in the hill country of EphraimE′phraim when they heard that the Philistines fledwere evenfleeing they alsotoo followed hard after them in the battle
14:23 So Jehovahthe savedLord delivered Israel that day:; and the battle passed overbeyond by Beth avena′ven
14:24 And the men of Israel were distressed that day; for Saul hadlaid adjuredan oath on the people saying Cursed be the man thatwho eatetheats any food until it beis evening and I beam avenged on minemy enemies So none of the people tasted food
14:25 And all the people came into the forest; and there was honey uponon the ground
14:26 And when the people wereentered come unto the forest behold the honey dropped:was dropping but no man put his hand to his mouth; for the people feared the oath
14:27 But Jonathan heardhad not whenheard his father chargedcharge the people with the oath:; whereforeso he put forth the endtip of the rodstaff that was in his hand and dipped it in the honeycomb and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes werebecame enlightenedbright
14:28 Then answered one of the people and said ThyYour father straitlystrictly charged the people with an oath saying Cursed be the man thatwho eatetheats food this day And the people were faint
14:29 Then Jonathan said Jonathan My father hathhas troubled the land:; see I pray you how minemy eyes have beenbecome enlightenedbright because I tasted a little of this honey
14:30 How much morebetter if haply the people had eaten freely totoday day of the spoil of their enemies which they found; for now haththe thereslaughter beenamong nothe greatPhilistines slaughterhas amongnot thebeen Philistinesgreat
14:31 AndThey theystruck smotedown of the Philistines that day from Michmash to AijalonAi′jalon And the people were very faint;
14:32 and the people flew upon the spoil and took sheep and oxen and calves and slew them on the ground; and the people didate eat them with the blood
14:33 Then they told Saul saying Behold the people sinare sinning against Jehovahthe inLord thatby theyeating eat with the blood And he said YeYou have dealt treacherously:; roll a great stone untoto me thishere day
14:34 And Saul said Disperse yourselves among the people and say untoto them BringLet me hither every man bring his ox andor every man his sheep and slay them here and eat; and sindo not sin against Jehovahthe inLord by eating with the blood AndSo allevery one of the people brought every man his ox with him that night and slew them there
14:35 And Saul built an altar untoto Jehovah: the sameLord; it was the first altar that he built untoto Jehovahthe Lord
14:36 AndThen Saul said Let us go down after the Philistines by night and takedespoil spoil among them until the morning light; and let us not leave a man of them And they said Do whatsoeverwhatever seemethseems good untoto theeyou ThenBut said the priest said Let us draw near hither untoto God
14:37 And Saul askedinquired counsel of God Shall I go down after the Philistines wiltWilt thou delivergive them into the hand of Israel But he answereddid not answer him not that day
14:38 And Saul said DrawCome nigh hither all yeyou chiefsleaders of the people; and know and see whereinhow this sin hathhas beenarisen thistoday day
14:39 For as Jehovahthe livethLord lives who savethsaves Israel though it be in Jonathan my son he shall surely die But there was not a man among all the people that answered him
14:40 Then he said heto unto all Israel BeYou yeshall be on one side and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side And the people said untoto Saul Do what seemethseems good untoto theeyou
14:41 Therefore Saul said untoO JehovahLord theGod of Israel why hast thou not answered thy servant this day If this guilt is in me or in Jonathan my son O Lord God of Israel Showgive theUrim; rightbut if this guilt is in thy people Israel give Thummim And Jonathan and Saul were taken by lot; but the people escaped
14:42 AndThen Saul said Cast lotsthe lot between me and Jonathan my son Jonathan And Jonathan was taken
14:43 Then Saul said to Jonathan Tell me what thouyou hasthave done And Jonathan told him and said I didtasted certainly taste a little honey with the endtip of the rodstaff that was in my hand; andhere loI am I mustwill die
14:44 And Saul said God do so to me and more also; foryou thoushall shalt surely die Jonathan
14:45 AndThen the people said untoto Saul Shall Jonathan die who hathhas wrought this great salvationvictory in Israel Far from it: asAs Jehovahthe livethLord lives there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he hathhas wrought with God this day So the people rescuedransomed Jonathan that he dieddid not die
14:46 Then Saul went up from followingpursuing the Philistines; and the Philistines went to their own place
14:47 NowWhen when Saul had taken the kingdomkingship over Israel he fought against all his enemies on every side against Moab and against the childrenAmmonites of Ammon and against Edom and against the kings of Zobah and against the Philistines:; andwherever whithersoever he turned himself he put them to the worse
14:48 And he did valiantly and smote the AmalekitesAmal′ekites and delivered Israel out of the hands of themthose thatwho despoiledplundered them
14:49 Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan and Ishvi and Malchi shuaMal′chishu′a; and the names of his two daughters were these: the name of the first born was Merab and the name of the younger Michal:;
14:50 and the name of Sauls wife was AhinoamAhin′o am the daughter of AhimaazAhim′a az And the name of the captaincommander of his hostarmy was Abner the son of Ner Sauls uncle;
14:51 And Kish was the father of Saul; and Ner the father of Abner was the son of AbielAbi′el
14:52 AndThere there was sorehard warfighting against the Philistines all the days of Saul:; and when Saul saw any mightystrong man or any valiant man he tookattached him untoto himhimself
15:1 And Samuel said untoto Saul JehovahThe Lord sent me to anoint theeyou to be king over his people over Israel:; now therefore hearken thouto unto the voicewords of the wordsLord of Jehovah
15:2 Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord of hosts I havewill markedpunish thatwhat whichAm′alek Amalek did to Israel howin heopposing setthem himselfon against him in the way when hethey came up out of Egypt
15:3 Now go and smite AmalekAm′alek and utterly destroy all that they have; anddo not spare them not; but slaykill both man and woman infant and suckling ox and sheep camel and ass
15:4 AndSo Saul summoned the people and numbered them in TelaimTela′im two hundred thousand footmenmen on foot and ten thousand men of Judah
15:5 And Saul came to the city of AmalekAm′alek and laidlay in wait in the valley
15:6 And Saul said untoto the KenitesKen′ites Go depart getgo you down from among the AmalekitesAmal′ekites lest I destroy you with them; for yeyou showed kindness to all the childrenpeople of Israel when they came up out of Egypt So the KenitesKen′ites departed from among the AmalekitesAmal′ekites
15:7 And Saul smotedefeated the AmalekitesAmal′ekites from HavilahHav′ilah as thoufar goestas to Shur thatwhich is beforeeast of Egypt
15:8 And he took Agag the king of the AmalekitesAmal′ekites alive and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword
15:9 But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep and of the oxen and of the fatlings and the lambs and all that was good and would not utterly destroy them:; butall everything that was viledespised and refuseworthless that they utterly destroyed utterly
15:10 ThenThe cameword of the wordLord ofcame Jehovahto unto Samuel: saying
15:11 ItI repentethrepent me that I have setmade up Saul to be king; for he ishas turned back from following me and hathhas not performed my commandments And Samuel was wrothangry; and he cried untoto Jehovahthe Lord all night
15:12 And Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning; and it was told Samuel saying Saul came to Carmel and behold he set him up a monument for himself and turned and passed on and went down to Gilgal
15:13 And Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said untoto him Blessed be thouyou ofto Jehovah:the Lord; I have performed the commandment of Jehovahthe Lord
15:14 And Samuel said What meaneth then is this bleating of the sheep in minemy ears and the lowing of the oxen which I hear
15:15 And Saul said They have brought them from the Amalekites:Amal′ekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen to sacrifice untoto Jehovahthe thyLord your God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed
15:16 Then Samuel said untoto Saul StayStop and I will tell theeyou what Jehovahthe hathLord said to me this night And he said untoto him Say on
15:17 And Samuel said Though thouyou wastare little in thineyour own sighteyes wastare thouyou not made the head of the tribes of Israel AndThe JehovahLord anointed theeyou king over Israel;
15:18 andAnd Jehovahthe Lord sent theeyou on a journeymission and said Go and utterly destroy the sinners the AmalekitesAmal′ekites and fight against them until they beare consumed
15:19 WhereforeWhy then didstdid thouyou not obey the voice of Jehovahthe butLord didstWhy flydid uponyou swoop on the spoil and didstdo thatwhat which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord
15:20 And Saul said untoto Samuel Yea I have obeyed the voice of Jehovahthe andLord I have gone on the waymission on which Jehovahthe Lord sent me andI have brought Agag the king of AmalekAm′alek and I have utterly destroyed the AmalekitesAmal′ekites
15:21 But the people took of the spoil sheep and oxen the chiefbest of the things devoted thingsto destruction to sacrifice untoto Jehovahthe thyLord your God in Gilgal
15:22 And Samuel said HathHas Jehovahthe Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of Jehovahthe Lord Behold to obey is better than sacrifice and to hearken than the fat of rams
15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraftdivination and stubbornness is as idolatryiniquity and teraphimidolatry Because thouyou hasthave rejected the word of Jehovahthe Lord he hathhas also rejected theeyou from being king
15:24 And Saul said untoto Samuel I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of Jehovahthe Lord and thyyour words because I feared the people and obeyed their voice
15:25 Now therefore I pray thee pardon my sin and turnreturn again with me that I may worship Jehovahthe Lord
15:26 And Samuel said untoto Saul I will not return with theeyou; for thouyou hasthave rejected the word of Jehovahthe Lord and Jehovahthe hathLord has rejected theeyou from being king over Israel
15:27 AndAs as Samuel turned about to go away Saul laid hold upon the skirt of his robe and it renttore
15:28 And Samuel said untoto him JehovahThe hathLord renthas torn the kingdom of Israel from theeyou this day and hathhas given it to a neighbor of thineyours thatwho is better than thouyou
15:29 And also the StrengthGlory of Israel will not lie noror repent; for he is not a man that he should repent
15:30 Then he said I have sinned:; yet honor me now I pray thee before the elders of my people and before Israel and turnreturn again with me that I may worship Jehovahthe thyLord your God
15:31 So Samuel turned againback after Saul; and Saul worshippedworshiped Jehovahthe Lord
15:32 Then Samuel said Samuel Bring yehere hither to me Agag the king of the AmalekitesAmal′ekites And Agag came untoto him cheerfully And Agag said Surely the bitterness of death is past
15:33 And Samuel said As thyyour sword hathhas made women childless so shall thyyour mother be childless among women And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before Jehovahthe Lord in Gilgal
15:34 Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house toin GibeahGib′e ah of Saul
15:35 And Samuel camedid nonot more to see Saul again until the day of his death; forbut Samuel mournedgrieved forover Saul: andAnd Jehovahthe Lord repented that he had made Saul king over Israel
16:1 AndThe JehovahLord said untoto Samuel How long wiltwill thouyou mourngrieve forover Saul seeing I have rejected him from being king over Israel fillFill thyyour horn with oil and go:; I will send theeyou to Jesse the BethBethlehemite lehemite; for I have provided mefor myself a king among his sons
16:2 And Samuel said How can I go ifIf Saul hearhears it he will kill me And Jehovahthe Lord said Take a heifer with theeyou and say I amhave come to sacrifice to Jehovahthe Lord
16:3 And callinvite Jesse to the sacrifice and I will show theeyou what thouyou shaltshall do:; and thouyou shaltshall anoint untofor me him whom I name untoto theeyou
16:4 And Samuel did thatwhat whichthe JehovahLord spakecommanded and came to BethBethlehem lehemThe And the elders of the city came to meet him trembling and said ComestDo thouyou come peaceably
16:5 And he said Peaceably; I amhave come to sacrifice untoto Jehovah:the sanctifyLord; consecrate yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice And he sanctifiedconsecrated Jesse and his sons and calledinvited them to the sacrifice
16:6 AndWhen itthey came to pass when they were come that he looked on EliabEli′ab and saidthought Surely Jehovahsthe Lords anointed is before him
16:7 But Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Samuel LookDo not look on his countenanceappearance or on the height of his stature; because I have rejected him:; for Jehovahthe seethLord sees not as man seethsees; for man lookethlooks on the outward appearance but Jehovahthe lookethLord looks on the heart
16:8 Then Jesse called AbinadabAbin′adab and made him pass before Samuel And he said Neither hathhas Jehovahthe Lord chosen this one
16:9 Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by And he said Neither hathhas Jehovahthe Lord chosen this one
16:10 And Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel And Samuel said untoto Jesse JehovahThe hathLord has not chosen these

16:12 And he sent and brought him in Now he was ruddy and withalhad of a beautiful countenanceeyes and goodlywas tohandsome lookAnd uponthe AndLord Jehovah said Arise anoint him; for this is he
16:13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brethren:brothers; and the Spirit of Jehovahthe Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward SoAnd Samuel rose up and went to Ramah
16:14 Now the Spirit of Jehovahthe Lord departed from Saul and an evil spirit from Jehovahthe troubledLord tormented him
16:15 And Sauls servants said untoto him Behold now an evil spirit from God troublethis theetormenting you
16:16 Let our lord now command thyyour servants thatwho are before theeyou to seek out a man who is a skilful playerin onplaying the harp:lyre; and it shall come to pass when the evil spirit from God is upon theeyou that he shallwill play withit his hand and thouyou shaltwill be well
16:17 AndSo Saul said untoto his servants Provide for me now a man thatwho can play well and bring him to me
16:18 ThenOne answered one of the young men andanswered said Behold I have seen a son of Jesse the BethBethlehemite lehemitewho that is skilful in playing and a mighty man of valor and a man of war and prudent in speech and a comelyman personof good presence; and Jehovahthe Lord is with him

18:24 And the servants of Saul told him sayingThus Onand thisso mannerdid spake David speak
18:25 AndThen Saul said Thus shall yeyou say to David The king desirethdesires notno anymarriage dowrypresent butexcept a hundred foreskins of the Philistines tothat he may be avenged of the kings enemies Now Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines

19:5 for he puttook his life in his hand and smotehe slew the Philistine and Jehovahthe Lord wrought a great victory for all Israel: thouYou sawestsaw it and didst rejoicerejoiced; whereforewhy then wiltwill thouyou sin against innocent blood toby slaykilling David without a cause
19:6 And Saul hearkened untoto the voice of Jonathan:; and Saul swareswore As Jehovahthe livethLord lives he shall not be put to death
19:7 And Jonathan called David and Jonathan showed him all thosethese things And Jonathan brought David to Saul and he was in his presence as beforetimebefore
19:8 And there was war again:; and David went out and fought with the Philistines and slewmade them with a great slaughter; andamong them so that they fled before him
19:9 AndThen an evil spirit from Jehovahthe wasLord came upon Saul as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand; and David was playing withthe hislyre hand
19:10 And Saul sought to smitepin David even to the wall with the spear; but he slippedeluded awaySaul outso ofthat Sauls presence and he smotestruck the spear into the wall: andAnd David fled and escaped that night

19:12 So Michal let David down through the window:; and he wentfled andaway fled and escaped
19:13 And Michal took thean teraphimimage and laid it inon the bed and put a pillow of goats hair at theits head thereof and covered it with the clothes
19:15 AndThen Saul sent the messengers to see David saying Bring him up to me in the bed that I may slaykill him
19:16 And when the messengers came in behold the teraphimimage was in the bed with the pillow of goats hair at theits head thereof
19:17 And Saul said untoto Michal Why hasthave thouyou deceived me thus and let minemy enemy go so that he ishas escaped And Michal answered Saul He said untoto me Let me go; why should I kill theeyou
19:18 Now David fled and escaped and he came to Samuel toat Ramah and told him all that Saul had done to him And he and Samuel went and dwelt inat NaiothNai′oth
19:19 And it was told Saul saying Behold David is at NaiothNai′oth in Ramah

19:23 And he went thitherfrom there to NaiothNai′oth in Ramah:; and the Spirit of God came upon him also and as he went onhe and prophesied until he came to NaiothNai′oth in Ramah
19:24 And he alsotoo stripped off his clothes and he alsotoo prophesied before Samuel and lay down naked all that day and all that night WhereforeHence theyit sayis said Is Saul also among the prophets
20:1 AndThen David fled from NaiothNai′oth in Ramah and came and said before Jonathan What have I done whatWhat is minemy iniquityguilt andAnd what is my sin before thyyour father that he seekethseeks my life
20:2 And he said untoto him Far from it; thouYou shaltshall not die: beholdBehold my father doethdoes nothing either great or small butwithout thatdisclosing he discloseth it untoto me; and why should my father hide this thing from me itIt is not so
20:3 AndBut David swarereplied moreoverYour and said Thy father knowethknows well that I have found favor in thineyour eyes; and he saiththinks Let not Jonathan know this lest he be grieved: butBut truly as Jehovahthe livethLord lives and as thyyour soul livethlives there is but a step between me and death
20:4 Then said Jonathan untoto David WhatsoeverWhatever thyyou soulsay desireth I will even do it for theeyou
20:5 And David said untoto Jonathan Behold totomorrow morrow is the new moon and I should not fail to sit at table with the king; at meat: but let me go that I may hide myself in the field untotill the third day at evenevening
20:6 If thyyour father missmisses me at all then say David earnestly asked leave of me thatto he might run to BethBethlehem lehem his city; for itthere is thea yearly sacrifice there for all the family
20:7 If he saysays thusGood Itit iswill be well; thywith your servant; shall have peace: but if he beis wrothangry then know that evil is determined by him
20:8 Therefore deal kindly with thyyour servant; for thouyou hasthave brought thyyour servant into a sacred covenant of Jehovah with thee:you butBut if there beis guilt in me iniquity slay me thyselfyourself; for why shouldestshould thouyou bring me to thyyour father
20:9 And Jonathan said Far be it from thee;you forIf if I shouldknew at all know that evilit werewas determined by my father tothat evil should come upon theeyou then would I not I tell ityou thee
20:10 Then said David to Jonathan Who shallwill tell me if perchanceyour thy father answeranswers theeyou roughly
20:11 And Jonathan said untoto David Come and let us go out into the field AndSo they both went out both of them into the field
20:12 And Jonathan said untoto David JehovahThe Lord the God of Israel be witness: whenWhen I have sounded my father about this time totomorrow morrow or the third day behold if therehe beis goodwell disposed toward David shall I not then send unto thee and disclose it untoto theeyou
20:13 JehovahBut doshould soit toplease Jonathanmy andfather moreto alsodo shouldyou itharm pleasethe myLord fatherdo so to doJonathan theeand evilmore also if I do not disclose it notto untoyou thee and send theeyou away that thouyou mayestmay go in peace:safety andMay Jehovahthe Lord be with theeyou as he hathhas been with my father
20:14 AndIf thouI shaltam notstill onlyalive while yet I live show me the lovingkindnessloyal love of Jehovahthe Lord that I diemay not die;
20:15 butand alsodo thou shalt not cut off thyyour kindnessloyalty from my house for ever; noWhen notthe whenLord Jehovahcuts hathoff cutevery offone of the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth
20:16 Solet not the name of Jonathan madebe acut covenantoff withfrom the house of David saying And Jehovahmay willthe requireLord ittake atvengeance theon hand of Davids enemies
20:17 And Jonathan causedmade David to swear again forby thehis love thatfor he had to him; for he loved him as he loved his own soul
20:18 Then Jonathan said untoto him ToTomorrow morrow is the new moon:; and thouyou wiltwill be missed because thyyour seat will be empty
20:19 And whenon thouthe hastthird stayedday threeyou dayswill thoube shaltgreatly gomissed; downthen quicklygo and come to the place where thouyou didsthid hideyourself thyself when the businessmatter was in hand and shalt remain bybeside theyonder stone Ezelheap
20:20 And I will shoot three arrows onto the side thereofof it as though I shot at a mark
20:21 And behold I will send the lad saying Go find the arrows If I say untoto the lad BeholdLook the arrows are on this side of thee;you take them andthen you are to come; for thereas the Lord lives it is peacesafe tofor theeyou and nothere hurtis asno Jehovahdanger liveth
20:22 But if I say thusto unto the boyyouth BeholdLook the arrows are beyond thee;you then go thy way; for Jehovahthe hathLord has sent theeyou away
20:23 And as touchingfor the matter of which thouyou and I have spoken of behold Jehovahthe Lord is between theeyou and me for ever
20:24 So David hid himself in the field:; and when the new moon wascame come the king sat him down to eat food
20:25 AndThe the king sat upon his seat as at other times even upon the seat by the wall; and Jonathan stoodsat upopposite and Abner sat by Sauls side: but Davids place was empty
20:26 NeverthelessYet Saul spakedid not say anything that day:; for he thought Something hathhas befallen him; he is not clean; surely he is not clean
20:27 AndBut iton camethe tosecond passday on the morrow after the new moon which was the second day that Davids place was empty: andAnd Saul said untoto Jonathan his son WhereforeWhy comethhas not the son of Jesse come to meatthe neithermeal either yesterday noror totoday day
20:28 And Jonathan answered Saul David earnestly asked leave of me to go to BethBethlehem; lehem:
20:29 and he said Let me go I pray thee; for our family hathholds a sacrifice in the city; and my brother hehas hath commanded me to be there: andSo now if I have found favor in thineyour eyes let me get away I pray thee and see my brethrenbrothers ThereforeFor this reason he ishas not come untoto the kings table
20:30 Then Sauls anger was kindled against Jonathan and he said untoto him ThouYou son of a perverse rebellious woman do I not I know that thouyou hasthave chosen the son of Jesse to thineyour own shame and untoto the shame of thyyour mothers nakedness
20:31 For as long as the son of Jesse livethlives upon the groundearth thouneither shaltyou notnor beyour establishedkingdom norshall thybe kingdomestablished WhereforeTherefore now send and fetch him untoto me for he shall surely die
20:32 AndThen Jonathan answered Saul his father andWhy said unto him Wherefore should he be put to death whatWhat hathhas he done
20:33 AndBut Saul cast his spear at him to smite him; wherebyso Jonathan knew that ithis father was determined of his father to put David to death
20:34 SoAnd Jonathan aroserose from the table in fierce anger and didate eat no food the second day of the month; for he was grieved for David because his father had donedisgraced him shame
20:35 AndIn it came to pass in the morning that Jonathan went out into the field atto the timeappointment appointed with David and with him a little lad with him
20:36 And he said untoto his lad Run and find now the arrows which I shoot AndAs as the lad ran he shot an arrow beyond him
20:37 And when the lad wascame come to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot Jonathan criedcalled after the lad and said Is not the arrow beyond theeyou
20:38 And Jonathan criedcalled after the lad MakeHurry speedmake haste stay not AndSo Jonathans lad gathered up the arrows and came to his master
20:39 But the lad knew notnothing; anything: only Jonathan and David knew the matter
20:40 And Jonathan gave his weapons untoto his lad and said untoto him Go and carry them to the city
20:41 And as soon as the lad washad gone David aroserose outfrom ofbeside athe placestone towardheap the South and fell on his face to the ground and bowed himself three times:; and they kissed one another and wept with one with another until David exceededrecovered himself
20:42 AndThen Jonathan said to David Go in peace forasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of Jehovahthe Lord saying JehovahThe Lord shall be between me and theeyou and between my seeddescendants and thyyour seeddescendants for ever And he aroserose and departed:; and Jonathan went into the city
21:1 Then came David to Nob to AhimelechAhim′elech the priest:; and AhimelechAhim′elech came to meet David trembling and said untoto him Why artare thouyou alone and no manone with theeyou
21:2 And David said untoto AhimelechAhim′elech the priest The king hathhas commandedcharged me with a businessmatter and hath said untoto me Let no manone know anything of the businessmatter whereaboutabout which I send theeyou and whatwith which I have commandedcharged thee:you and I have appointedmade an appointment with the young men tofor such and such a place
21:3 Now thereforethen what ishave underyou thyat hand giveGive me five loaves of bread in my hand or whatsoeverwhatever there is presenthere
21:4 And the priest answered David andI saidhave There is no common bread underat my hand but there is holy bread; if only the young men have kept themselves from women
21:5 And David answered the priest and said unto him Of a truth women have been kept from us aboutas thesealways three days; when I camego outon an expedition; the vessels of the young men wereare holy thougheven when it wasis but a common journey; how much more thentoday towill day shall their vessels be holy
21:6 So the priest gave him the holy bread; for there was no bread there but the showbreadbread thatof wasthe takenPresence which is removed from before Jehovahthe Lord to putbe replaced by hot bread inon the day when it wasis taken away
21:7 Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day detained before Jehovahthe Lord; and his name was DoegDo′eg the EdomiteE′domite the chiefestchief of theSauls herdsmen that belonged to Saul
21:8 And David said untoto AhimelechAhim′elech And ishave thereyou not here undera thy hand spear or a sword forat hand For I have brought neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me because the kings business required haste
21:9 And the priest said The sword of Goliath the Philistine whom thouyou slewestkilled in the valevalley of Elah behold it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod:; if thouyou wiltwill take that take it; for there is nonone otherbut save that here And David said There is none like that; give it to me
21:10 And David aroserose and fled that day forfrom fear of Saul and went to AchishA′chish the king of Gath
21:11 And the servants of AchishA′chish said untoto him Is not this David the king of the land didDid they not sing to one to another of him in dances saying Saul hathhas slain his thousands Andand David his ten thousands
21:12 And David laidtook up these words into his heart and was soremuch afraid of AchishA′chish the king of Gath
21:13 AndSo he changed his behavior before them and feigned himself mad in their hands and scrabbledmade marks on the doors of the gate and let his spittle fallrun down upon his beard
21:14 Then said AchishA′chish untoto his servants Lo yeyou see the man is mad; whereforewhy then have yeyou brought him to me
21:15 Do I lack madmen that yeyou have brought this fellow to play the madman in my presence shallShall this fellow come into my house
22:1 David therefore departed thencefrom there and escaped to the cave of Adullam:; and when his brethrenbrothers and all his fathers house heard it they went down thitherthere to him
22:2 And every one thatwho was in distress and every one thatwho was in debt and every one thatwho was discontented gathered themselvesto unto him; and he became captain over them: andAnd there were with him about four hundred men
22:3 And David went thencefrom there to Mizpeh of Moab:; and he said untoto the king of Moab LetPray let my father and my mother Istay pray thee come forth and be with you till I know what God will do for me
22:4 And he broughtleft them beforewith the king of Moab: and they dweltstayed with him all the whiletime that David was in the stronghold

22:7 And Saul said untoto his servants thatwho stood about him Hear now yeyou BenjamitesBenjaminites; will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards will he make you all captainscommanders of thousands and captainscommanders of hundreds
22:8 that all of you have conspired against me andNo thereone isdiscloses none that discloseth to me when my son makethmakes a league with the son of Jesse and there is none of you that is sorry for me or disclosethdiscloses untoto me that my son hathhas stirred up my servant against me to lie in wait as at this day
22:9 Then answered DoegDo′eg the EdomiteE′domite who stood by the servants of Saul and said I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob to AhimelechAhim′elech the son of AhitubAhi′tub
22:10 Andand he inquired of Jehovahthe Lord for him and gave him victualsprovisions and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine
22:11 Then the king sent to callsummon AhimelechAhim′elech the priest the son of AhitubAhi′tub and all his fathers house the priests thatwho were inat Nob:; and they came all of them came to the king
22:12 And Saul said Hear now thou son of AhitubAhi′tub And he answered Here I am my lord

22:14 Then AhimelechAhim′elech answered the king and said And who among all thyyour servants is so faithful as David who is the kings son in law and iscaptain takenover intoyour thybodyguard council and ishonored honorable in thyyour house
22:15 HaveIs Itoday tothe dayfirst beguntime tothat inquireI have inquired of God for him beNo itLet far from me: let not the king impute anything untoto his servant noror to all the house of my father; for thyyour servant knowethhas known nothing of all this lessmuch or morelittle
22:16 And the king said ThouYou shaltshall surely die AhimelechAhim′elech thouyou and all thyyour fathers house
22:17 And the king said untoto the guard thatwho stood about him Turn and slaykill the priests of Jehovahthe Lord; because their hand also is with David and because they knew that he fled and did not disclose it to me But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of Jehovahthe Lord
22:18 AndThen the king said to DoegDo′eg TurnYou thouturn and fall upon the priests And DoegDo′eg the EdomiteE′domite turned and he fell upon the priests and he slewkilled on that day fourscoreeighty and five persons thatwho didwore wearthe a linen ephod
22:19 And Nob the city of the priests smote he withput theto edge of the sword; both men and women children and sucklings and oxen and asses and sheep withhe theput edgeto of the sword
22:20 AndBut one of the sons of AhimelechAhim′elech the son of AhitubAhi′tub named AbiatharAbi′athar escaped and fled after David
22:21 And AbiatharAbi′athar told David that Saul had slainkilled Jehovahsthe priests of the Lord
22:22 And David said untoto AbiatharAbi′athar I knew on that day when DoegDo′eg the EdomiteE′domite was there that he would surely tell Saul: I have occasioned the death of all the persons of thyyour fathers house
22:23 AbideStay thou with me fear not; for he that seekethseeks my life seekethseeks thyyour life:; for with me thouyou shaltshall be in safeguardsafekeeping
23:1 AndNow they told David saying Behold the Philistines are fighting against KeilahKei′lah and are robbing the threshing floors
23:2 Therefore David inquired of Jehovahthe sayingLord Shall I go and smiteattack these Philistines And Jehovahthe Lord said untoto David Go and smiteattack the Philistines and save KeilahKei′lah
23:3 AndBut Davids men said untoto him Behold we are afraid here in Judah:; how much more then if we go to KeilahKei′lah against the armies of the Philistines
23:4 Then David inquired of Jehovahthe yetLord again And Jehovahthe Lord answered him and said Arise go down to KeilahKei′lah; for I will delivergive the Philistines into thyyour hand
23:5 And David and his men went to KeilahKei′lah and fought with the Philistines and brought away their cattle and slewmade them with a great slaughter among them So David saveddelivered the inhabitants of Keilah Kei′lah
23:6 AndWhen itAbi′athar came to pass when Abiathar the son of AhimelechAhim′elech fled to David to KeilahKei′lah that he came down with an ephod in his hand

23:8 And Saul summoned all the people to war to go down to KeilahKei′lah to besiege David and his men
23:9 And David knew that Saul was devisingplotting mischiefevil against him; and he said to AbiatharAbi′athar the priest Bring hither the ephod here
23:10 Then said David O JehovahLord the God of Israel thy servant hathhas surely heard that Saul seekethseeks to come to KeilahKei′lah to destroy the city foron my sakeaccount
23:11 Will the men of KeilahKei′lah deliversurrender me up into his hand willWill Saul come down as thy servant hathhas heard O JehovahLord the God of Israel I beseech thee tell thy servant And Jehovahthe Lord said He will come down
23:12 Then said David Will the men of KeilahKei′lah deliversurrender up me and my men into the hand of Saul And Jehovahthe Lord said They will deliversurrender theeyou up
23:13 Then David and his men who were about six hundred arose and departed outfrom ofKei′lah Keilah and they went whithersoeverwherever they could go AndWhen itSaul was told Saul that David washad escaped from Keilah;Kei′lah and he forbaregave toup gothe forthexpedition
23:14 And David aboderemained in the wildernessstrongholds in the strongholdswilderness and remained in the hill country inof the wildernessWilderness of Ziph And Saul sought him every day but God delivereddid not give him not into his hand
23:15 And David sawwas thatafraid because Saul washad come out to seek his life: and David was in the wildernessWilderness of Ziph inat theHoresh wood
23:16 And Jonathan Sauls son aroserose and went to David intoat theHoresh wood and strengthened his hand in God
23:17 And he said untoto him Fear not; for the hand of Saul my father shall not find theeyou; andyou thoushall shalt be king over Israel and I shall be next untoto theeyou; and that also Saul my father knowethalso knows this
23:18 And theythe two of them made a covenant before Jehovah:the andLord; David aboderemained inat theHoresh wood and Jonathan went to his househome

23:21 And Saul said BlessedMay you be yeblessed ofby Jehovahthe Lord; for yeyou have had compassion on me
23:22 Go I pray you make yet more sure; and know and see histhe place where his haunt is and who hathhas seen him there; for it is told me that he dealethis very subtlycunning
23:23 See therefore and take knowledgenote of all the lurking places where he hidethhides himself and come yeback again to me ofwith asure certaintyinformation andThen I will go with you:; and it shall come to pass if he beis in the land that I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah
23:24 And they arose and went to Ziph beforeahead of Saul: butNow David and his men were in the wilderness of MaonMa′on in the Arabah onto the south of theJeshi′mon desert

23:27 Butwhen there came a messenger untocame to Saul saying HasteMake theehaste and come; for the Philistines have made a raid upon the land
23:28 So Saul returned from pursuing after David and went against the Philistines:; therefore theythat place was called thatthe placeRock Selaof hammahlekothEscape
23:29 And David went up from thencethere and dwelt in the strongholds of En gedige′di
24:1 AndWhen it came to pass when Saul was returned from following the Philistines thathe it was told him saying Behold David is in the wilderness of En gedige′di

24:6 AndHe he said untoto his men JehovahThe Lord forbid that I should do this thing untoto my lord Jehovahsthe Lords anointed to put forth my hand against him seeing he is Jehovahsthe Lords anointed

24:14 After whom ishas the king of Israel come out afterAfter whom dostdo thouyou pursue afterAfter a dead dog afterAfter a flea
24:15 JehovahMay the Lord therefore be judge and give sentence between me and theeyou and see to it and plead my cause and deliver me outfrom ofyour thy hand
24:16 AndWhen it came to pass when David had madefinished an end of speaking these words untoto Saul that Saul said Is this thyyour voice my son David And Saul lifted up his voice and wept
24:17 AndHe he said to David ThouYou artare more righteous than I; for thouyou hasthave renderedrepaid unto me good whereas I have renderedrepaid untoyou thee evil
24:18 And thouyou hasthave declared this day how thatyou thouhave hast dealt well with me forasmuchin asthat whenyou Jehovahdid hadnot deliveredkill me upwhen intothe thyLord handput thoume killedstinto meyour nothands
24:19 For if a man findfinds his enemy will he let him go well away whereforesafe JehovahSo may the Lord reward theeyou with good for thatwhat whichyou thouhave hast done untoto me this day
24:20 And now behold I know that thouyou shaltshall surely be king and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in thyyour hand
24:21 Swear nowto me therefore untoby methe byLord Jehovah that thouyou wiltwill not cut off my seeddescendants after me and that thouyou wiltwill not destroy my name out of my fathers house
24:22 And David swareswore untothis to Saul AndThen Saul went home; but David and his men gatwent them up untoto the stronghold
25:1 AndNow Samuel died; and all Israel gatheredassembled themselvesand togethermourned andfor lamented him and they buried him in his house at Ramah AndThen David aroserose and went down to the wilderness of Paran
25:2 And there was a man in MaonMa′on whose possessionsbusiness werewas in Carmel; andThe the man was very greatrich; and he had three thousand sheep and a thousand goats: andHe he was shearing his sheep in Carmel
25:3 Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail;Ab′igail andThe the woman was of good understanding and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evilill in his doingsbehaved; and he was ofa theCalebite house of Caleb
25:4 And David heard in the wilderness that Nabal was shearing his sheep
25:5 AndSo David sent ten young men; and David said untoto the young men GetGo you up to Carmel and go to Nabal and greet him in my name:
25:6 andAnd thus you shall yesalute say to him: that liveth in prosperity Peace be untoto theeyou and peace be to thyyour house and peace be untoto all that thouyou hasthave
25:7 And now I havehear heard that thouyou hasthave shearers:; thynow your shepherds have now been with us and we did them no hurtharm neitherand wasthey theremissed aughtnothing missing unto them all the whiletime they were in Carmel
25:8 Ask thyyour young men and they will tell thee:you whereforeTherefore let themy young men find favor in thineyour eyes; for we come inon a goodfeast day: Pray give Iwhatever prayyou theehave whatsoeverat comethhand to thyyour hand unto thy servants and to thyyour son David
25:9 AndWhen when Davids young men came they spakesaid toall Nabalthis according to allNabal those words in the name of David; and ceasedthen they waited
25:10 And Nabal answered Davids servants and said Who is David andWho who is the son of Jesse thereThere are many servants nownowadays awho daysare thatbreaking break away every man from histheir mastermasters
25:11 Shall I then take my bread and my water and my fleshmeat that I have killed for my shearers and give it untoto men ofwho whomcome from I knowdo not whenceknow theywhere are
25:12 So Davids young men turned onaway their way and wentcame back and came and told him according to all thesethis words
25:13 And David said untoto his men GirdEvery yeman gird on every man his sword And theyevery man of them girded on every man his sword; and David also girded on his sword:; and thereabout four hundred men went up after David aboutwhile four hundred men; and two hundred aboderemained bywith the baggage
25:14 But one of the young men told AbigailAb′igail Nabals wife saying Behold David sent messengers out of the wilderness to salute our master; and he railed at them
25:15 ButYet the men were very good untoto us and we weresuffered no harm and we did not hurtmiss neitheranything missedwhen we anythingwere in the fields as long as we went with them; when we were in the fields:
25:16 they were a wall untoto us both by night and by day all the while we were with them keeping the sheep
25:17 Now therefore know this and consider what thouyou wiltshould do; for evil is determined against our master and against all his house: forand he is suchso aill worthlessnatured fellow that one cannot speak to him
25:18 Then AbigailAb′igail made haste and took two hundred loaves and two bottlesskins of wine and five sheep ready dressed and five measures of parched grain and a hundred clusters of raisins and two hundred cakes of figs and laid them on asses
25:19 And she said untoto her young men Go on before me; behold I come after you But she tolddid not tell her husband Nabal
25:20 And it was so as she rode on herthe ass and came down byunder thecover covert of the mountain that behold David and his men came down toward her; and she met them
25:21 Now David had said Surely in vain have I keptguarded all that this fellow hathhas in the wilderness so that nothing was missed of all that pertainedbelonged untoto him:; and he hathhas returned me evil for good
25:22 God do so untoto the enemies of David and more also if by morning I leave ofso allmuch thatas pertainone tomale himof byall thewho morningbelong lightto so much as one man childhim
25:23 AndWhen whenAb′igail Abigail saw David she hastedmade haste and alighted from herthe ass and fell before David on her face and bowed herself to the ground
25:24 AndShe she fell at his feet and said Upon me alone my lord upon me be the iniquityguilt; andpray let thyyour handmaid I pray thee speak in thineyour ears and hear thou the words of thyyour handmaid
25:25 Let not my lord I pray thee regard this worthlessill natured fellow even Nabal; for as his name is so is he; Nabal is his name and folly is with him:; but I thyyour handmaid sawdid not see the young men of my lord whom thouyou didstsent send
25:26 Now thereforethen my lord as Jehovahthe livethLord lives and as thyyour soul livethlives seeing Jehovahthe hathLord withholdenhas theerestrained you from bloodguiltinessbloodguilt and from avengingtaking thyselfvengeance with thineyour own hand now thereforethen let thineyour enemies and themthose thatwho seek to do evil to my lord be as Nabal
25:27 And now let this present which thyyour servant hathhas brought untoto my lord let it be given untoto the young men thatwho follow my lord
25:28 ForgivePray Iforgive pray thee the trespass of thyyour handmaid:; for Jehovahthe Lord will certainly make my lord a sure house because my lord fightethis fighting the battles of Jehovahthe Lord; and evil shall not be found in theeyou allso thylong daysas you live
25:29 AndIf though men berise risen up to pursue theeyou and to seek thyyour soullife yet the soullife of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of lifethe withliving Jehovahin thythe care of the Lord your God; and the soulslives of thineyour enemies themhe shall he sling out as from the hollow of a sling
25:30 And it shall come to pass when Jehovahthe shallLord havehas done to my lord according to all the good that he hathhas spoken concerning theeyou and shallhas have appointed theeyou prince over Israel
25:31 thatmy thislord shall behave no griefcause untoof theegrief noror offencepangs of heartconscience untofor myhaving lord either that thou hast shed blood without cause or thatfor my lord hathtaking avengedvengeance himself And when Jehovahthe shallLord havehas dealt well with my lord then remember thyyour handmaid
25:32 And David said to AbigailAb′igail Blessed be Jehovahthe Lord the God of Israel who sent theeyou this day to meet me:
25:33 andBlessed blessed be thyyour discretion and blessed be thouyou thatwho hasthave kept me this day from bloodguiltinessbloodguilt and from avenging myself with minemy own hand
25:34 For inas verysurely deed as Jehovahthe Lord the God of Israel livethlives who hathhas withholdenrestrained me from hurting theeyou exceptunless thouyou hadsthad hastedmade haste and come to meet me surelytruly by morning there had not been left untoto Nabal by the morning light so much as one manmale child
25:35 SoThen David received offrom her hand thatwhat which she had brought him:; and he said untoto her Go up in peace to thyyour house; see I have hearkened to thyyour voice and I have acceptedgranted thyyour personpetition
25:36 And AbigailAb′igail came to Nabal; and beholdlo he heldwas holding a feast in his house like the feast of a king; andAnd Nabals heart was merry within him for he was very drunken:drunk; whereforeso she told him nothing lessat orall more until the morning light
25:37 And it came to pass in the morning when the wine washad gone out of Nabal that his wife told him these things and his heart died within him and he became as a stone
25:38 And it came to pass about ten days afterlater thatthe JehovahLord smote Nabal; soand that he died
25:39 AndWhen when David heard that Nabal was dead he said Blessed be Jehovahthe thatLord hathwho pleadedhas avenged the causeinsult ofI myreceived reproachat from the hand of Nabal and hathhas kept back his servant from evil:; andthe Lord has returned the evil doing of Nabal hath Jehovah returned upon his own head AndThen David sent and spakewooed concerningAb′igail Abigail to takemake her tohis him to wife
25:40 And when the servants of David werecame come to AbigailAb′igail toat Carmel they spakesaid untoto her saying David hathhas sent us untoto theeyou to take theeyou to him toas his wife
25:41 And she aroserose and bowed herself with her face to the earthground and said Behold thyyour handmaid is a servant to wash the feet of the servants of my lord
25:42 And AbigailAb′igail hastedmade haste and aroserose and rodemounted uponon an ass withand her five damselsmaidens ofattended hers that followed her; and she went after the messengers of David and became his wife
25:43 David also took AhinoamAhin′o am of Jezreel; and they became both of them became his wives
25:44 Now Saul had given Michal his daughter Davids wife to Palti the son of LaishLa′ish who was of Gallim
26:1 AndThen the Ziphites came untoto Saul toat GibeahGib′e ah saying DothIs not David hidehiding himself inon the hill of HachilahHachi′lah which is beforeon the deserteast of Jeshi′mon
26:2 ThenSo Saul arose and went down to the wilderness of Ziph havingwith three thousand chosen men of Israel with him to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph
26:3 And Saul encamped inon the hill of HachilahHachi′lah which is beforebeside the desertroad byon the wayeast of Jeshi′mon But David aboderemained in the wilderness; and when he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness
26:4 David therefore sent out spies and understoodlearned of a certainty that Saul washad come of a certainty
26:5 AndThen David aroserose and came to the place where Saul had encamped; and David beheldsaw the place where Saul lay andwith Abner the son of Ner the captaincommander of his host:army; and Saul laywas lying within the placeencampment ofwhile the wagonsarmy andwas the people were encamped roundaround about him
26:6 Then answered David and said to AhimelechAhim′elech the Hittite and to AbishaiJo′abs brother Abi′shai the son of ZeruiahZeru′iah brother to Joab saying Who will go down with me tointo Saulthe camp to theSaul camp And AbishaiAbi′shai said I will go down with theeyou
26:7 So David and AbishaiAbi′shai camewent to the peoplearmy by night:; and beholdthere lay Saul lay sleeping within the placeencampment of the wagons with his spear stuck in the ground at his head; and Abner and the peoplearmy lay roundaround about him
26:8 Then said AbishaiAbi′shai to David God hathhas deliveredgiven upyour thine enemy into thyyour hand this day:; now therefore let me smitepin him Ito praythe theeearth with theone spearstroke toof the earthspear at one stroke and I will not smitestrike him thetwice second time
26:9 AndBut David said to AbishaiAbi′shai DestroyDo not destroy him not; for who can put forth his hand against Jehovahsthe Lords anointed and be guiltless
26:10 And David said As Jehovahthe livethLord Jehovahlives the Lord will smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall go down into battle and perish
26:11 JehovahThe Lord forbid that I should put forth my hand against Jehovahsthe Lords anointed:; but now take Inow pray thee the spear that is at his head and the crusejar of water and let us go
26:12 So David took the spear and the crusejar of water from Sauls head; and they gatwent them away: andNo no man saw it noror knew it neithernor did any awake; for they were all asleep because a deep sleep from Jehovahthe wasLord had fallen upon them
26:13 Then David went over to the other side and stood afar off on the top of the mountain afarwith off; a great space being between them;
26:14 and David criedcalled to the peoplearmy and to Abner the son of Ner saying AnswerestWill thouyou not answer Abner Then Abner answered and said Who artare thouyou that criestcalls to the king
26:15 And David said to Abner ArtAre you not thou a valiant man andWho who is like toyou thee in Israel whereforeWhy then hasthave thouyou not kept watch over thyyour lord the king forFor there came one of the people came in to destroy the king thyyour lord
26:16 This thing isthat notyou goodhave thatdone thouis hastnot donegood As Jehovahthe livethLord yelives areyou worthydeserve to die because yeyou have not kept watch over your lord Jehovahsthe Lords anointed And now see where the kings spear is and the crusejar of water that was at his head
26:17 And Saul knewrecognized Davids voice and said Is this thyyour voice my son David And David said It is my voice my lord O king
26:18 And he said WhereforeWhy dothdoes my lord pursue after his servant forFor what have I done orWhat whatguilt evil is inon my handhands
26:19 Now therefore I pray thee let my lord the king hear the words of his servant If it beis Jehovahthe thatLord hathwho has stirred theeyou up against me letmay himhe accept an offering:; but if it beis themen childrenmay ofthey menbe cursed bebefore theythe beforeLord Jehovah; for they have driven me out this day that I should nothave cleaveno untoshare in the inheritanceheritage of Jehovahthe Lord saying Go serve other gods
26:20 Now therefore let not my blood fall to the earth away from the presence of Jehovah:the Lord; for the king of Israel ishas come out to seek amy flealife aslike when one dothwho hunthunts a partridge in the mountains
26:21 Then Saul said Saul I have sinned:done wrong; return my son David; for I will no more do theeyou harm because my life was precious in thineyour eyes this day:; behold I have played the fool and have erred exceedingly

27:3 And David dwelt with AchishA′chish at Gath he and his men every man with his household evenand David with his two wives AhinoamAhin′o theam Jezreelitessof Jezreel and AbigailAb′igail theof CarmelitessCarmel Nabals wifewidow
27:4 And when it was told Saul that David washad fled to Gath: and he sought for him no more again for him
27:5 AndThen David said untoto AchishA′chish If now I have found favor in thineyour eyes let thema giveplace mebe agiven placeme in one of the citiescountry intowns the country that I may dwell there:; for why should thyyour servant dwell in the royal city with theeyou
27:6 ThenSo Achishthat day A′chish gave him Ziklag; thattherefore day:Ziklag whereforehas Ziklagbelonged pertainethto unto the kings of Judah untoto this day
27:7 And the number of the days that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months
