| 1:1 |
Paul called by the will of God to be an apostle of Jesus Christ throughJesus the will of God and Sosthenes our brother Sos′thenes |
| 1:2 |
untoTo the church of God which is at Corinth evento themthose that are sanctified in Christ Jesus called to be saints together with all thatthose who in every place call uponon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ inboth every place their Lord and ours: |
| 1:4 |
I thankgive mythanks to God always concerningfor you forbecause of the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus; |
| 1:5 |
that in everythingevery yeway you were enriched in him inwith all utterancespeech and all knowledge;— |
| 1:6 |
even as the testimony ofto Christ was confirmed inamong you:— |
| 1:7 |
so that yeyou comeare behindnot lacking in noany spiritual gift; waitingas you wait for the revelationrevealing of our Lord Jesus Christ; |
| 1:8 |
who shallwill alsosustain confirm you untoto the end thatguiltless ye be unreproveable in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ |
| 1:9 |
God is faithful throughby whom yeyou were called into the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord |
| 1:10 |
Now I beseechappeal to you brethren throughby the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that ye all speakof theyou sameagree thing and that there be no divisionsdissensions among you; but that yeyou be perfectedunited together in the same mind and in the same judgment |
| 1:11 |
For it hathhas been signifiedreported untoto me concerning you my brethren by themChlo′es thatpeople are of the household of Chloe that there areis contentionsquarreling among you my brethren |
| 1:12 |
NowWhat this I mean is that each one of you saithsays I ambelong ofto Paul; andor I ofbelong Apollos;to andApol′los or I ofbelong to Cephas; andor I ofbelong to Christ |
| 1:13 |
Is Christ divided wasWas Paul crucified for you orOr were yeyou baptized intoin the name of Paul |
| 1:14 |
I thankam Godthankful that I baptized none of you saveexcept Crispus and GaiusGa′ius; |
| 1:15 |
lest any manone should say that yeyou were baptized intoin my name |
| 1:16 |
And I baptizeddid baptize also the household of Stephanas:Steph′anas besidesBeyond that I knowdo not know whether I baptized any otherone else |
| 1:17 |
For Christ sentdid not send me not to baptize but to preach the gospel: and not inwith eloquent wisdom of words lest the cross of Christ should be madeemptied voidof its power |
| 1:18 |
For the word of the cross is folly to themthose thatwho perishare foolishness;perishing but untoto us who are being saved it is the power of God |
| 1:19 |
For it is written I will destroy the wisdom of the wise Andand the discernmentcleverness of the discerningclever will I bringwill to noughtthwart |
| 1:20 |
Where is the wise whereman Where is the scribe whereWhere is the disputerdebater of this worldage hathHas not God made foolish the wisdom of the world |
| 1:21 |
For seeingsince that in the wisdom of God the world throughdid itsnot wisdomknow knewGod notthrough Godwisdom it waspleased GodsGod good pleasure through the foolishnessfolly of thewhat preachingwe preach to save themthose thatwho believe |
| 1:22 |
SeeingFor that Jews askdemand for signs and Greeks seek after wisdom: |
| 1:23 |
but we preach Christ crucified untoa Jewsstumbling ablock stumblingblockto Jews and untofolly to Gentiles foolishness; |
| 1:24 |
but untoto themthose thatwho are called both Jews and Greeks Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God |
| 1:25 |
BecauseFor the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men |
| 1:26 |
For beholdconsider your callingcall brethren; that not many of you were wise afteraccording theto fleshworldly standards not many mightywere powerful not many were of noble arebirth; called: |
| 1:27 |
but God chose thewhat is foolish thingsin of the world that he might put to shame themthe that are wise; and God chose thewhat is weak thingsin of the world that he might put to shame the things that are strong; |
| 1:28 |
andGod thechose basewhat thingsis oflow the world and the things that are despised didin Godthe chooseworld yeaeven and the things that are not thatto he might bring to noughtnothing the things that are: |
| 1:29 |
so that no fleshhuman shouldbeing glorymight beforeboast in the presence of God |
| 1:30 |
ButHe is the source of himyour arelife ye in Christ Jesus whowhom wasGod made untoour us wisdom fromour God and righteousness and sanctification and redemption:; |
| 1:31 |
thattherefore according as it is written HeLet thathim gloriethwho letboasts himboast gloryof in the Lord |
| 2:1 |
AndWhen I brethren when I came untoto you camebrethren notI withdid excellencynot ofcome speech or of wisdom proclaiming to you the testimony of God in lofty words or wisdom |
| 2:2 |
For I determineddecided not to know anythingnothing among you saveexcept Jesus Christ and him crucified |
| 2:3 |
And I was with you in weakness and in much fear and in much trembling; |
| 2:4 |
Andand my speech and my preachingmessage were not in persuasiveplausible words of wisdom but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: |
| 2:5 |
that your faith shouldmight not standrest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God |
| 2:6 |
WeYet speakamong wisdomthe howevermature amongwe themdo thatimpart arewisdom fullgrown:although yetit is not a wisdom not of this worldage noror of the rulers of this worldage who are comingdoomed to nought:pass away |
| 2:7 |
butBut we speakimpart Gods wisdom in a mysterysecret evenand thehidden wisdom thatof hathGod been hidden which God foreordaineddecreed before the worldsages untofor our glory:glorification |
| 2:8 |
whichNone none of the rulers of this worldage hathunderstood known:this; for hadif they knownhad it they would not have crucified the Lord of glory: |
| 2:9 |
butBut as it is written ThingsWhat whichno eye sawhas notseen andnor ear heard notnor And which entered not into the heart of man Whatsoeverconceived thingswhat God has prepared for themthose thatwho love him |
| 2:10 |
ButGod untohas usrevealed Godto revealedus them through the Spirit: forFor the Spirit searchethsearches alleverything thingseven yea the deepdepths things of God |
| 2:11 |
For whowhat amongperson menknows knowetha themans thingsthoughts ofexcept a man save the spirit of the man which is in him evenSo soalso no one comprehends the thingsthoughts of God noneexcept knoweth save the Spirit of God |
| 2:12 |
ButNow we have received not the spirit of the world but the spiritSpirit which is from God; that we might knowunderstand the thingsgifts thatbestowed wereon freely given to us ofby God |
| 2:13 |
WhichAnd things also we speakimpart notthis in words whichnot manstaught by human wisdom teacheth but whichtaught by the Spirit teacheth;interpreting combining spiritual thingstruths withto spiritualthose wordswho possess the Spirit |
| 2:14 |
NowThe theunspiritual natural man receivethdoes not receive the thingsgifts of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishnessfolly untoto him; and he cannotis knownot able to understand them because they are spiritually judgeddiscerned |
| 2:15 |
ButThe hespiritual thatman isjudges spiritual judgeth all things andbut heis himself isto be judged ofby no manone |
| 2:16 |
For who hathhas known the mind of the Lord thatso heas shouldto instruct him But we have the mind of Christ |
| 3:1 |
AndBut I brethren could not speakaddress unto you as unto spiritual men but as untomen carnalof the flesh as unto babes in Christ |
| 3:2 |
I fed you with milk not withsolid meatfood; for yeyou were not yetready ablefor to bear it:; nayand not even nowyet you are yenot able;ready |
| 3:3 |
for yeyou are yetstill carnal:of forthe whereasflesh For while there is among you jealousy and strife among you are yeyou not carnalof andthe doflesh yeand notbehaving walklike afterordinary the manner of men |
| 3:4 |
For when one saithsays I ambelong ofto Paul; and another I ambelong ofto Apollos;Apol′los are yeyou not merely men |
| 3:5 |
What then is ApollosApol′los andWhat what is Paul MinistersServants through whom yeyou believed; and each as the Lord gaveassigned to himeach |
| 3:6 |
I planted ApollosApol′los watered; but God gave the increasegrowth |
| 3:7 |
So then neither is he thatwho plantethplants anythingnor neither he thatwho watereth;waters is anything but only God thatwho givethgives the increasegrowth |
| 3:8 |
NowHe hewho thatplants planteth and he thatwho waterethwaters are one:equal butand each shall receive his ownwages reward according to his own labor |
| 3:9 |
For we are Gods fellow workers:; yeyou are Gods husbandryfield Gods building |
| 3:10 |
According to the grace of God which was given untoto me aslike a wiseskilled masterbuildermaster builder I laid a foundation; and another buildethman thereonis Butbuilding letupon it Let each man take heedcare how he buildethbuilds thereonupon it |
| 3:11 |
For no other foundation can noany manone lay than that which is laid which is Jesus Christ |
| 3:12 |
ButNow if any manone buildethbuilds on the foundation with gold silver costlyprecious stones wood hay stubble;straw— |
| 3:13 |
each mans work shallwill bebecome made manifest:; for the dayDay shallwill declaredisclose it because it iswill be revealed inwith fire; and the fire itselfwill shalltest provewhat eachsort mansof work ofeach whatone sorthas itdone is |
| 3:14 |
If anythe mans work shallwhich abideany whichman hehas built thereonon the foundation survives he shallwill receive a reward |
| 3:15 |
If any mans work shallis be burned up he shallwill suffer loss: butthough he himself shallwill be saved; yetbut soonly as through fire |
| 3:16 |
KnowDo yeyou not know that yeyou are aGods temple of God and that theGods Spirit ofdwells God dwelleth in you |
| 3:17 |
If any manone destroyethdestroys theGods temple of God himwill shalldestroy Godhim destroy; For forGods the temple of God is holy and suchthat temple you are ye |
| 3:18 |
Let no manone deceive himself If any manone thinkethamong you thinks that he is wise among you in this worldage let him become a fool that he may become wise |
| 3:19 |
For the wisdom of this world is foolishnessfolly with God For it is written He thatcatches taketh the wise in their craftiness: |
| 3:20 |
and again The Lord knowethknows that the reasoningsthoughts of the wise that they are vainfutile |
| 3:21 |
WhereforeSo let no one gloryboast inof men For all things are yours; |
| 3:22 |
whether Paul or ApollosApol′los or Cephas or the world or life or death or thingsthe present or thingsthe tofuture come; all are yours; |
| 3:23 |
and yeyou are Christs; and Christ is Gods |
| 4:1 |
LetThis ais manhow soone accountshould ofregard us as ofservants ministers of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God |
| 4:2 |
HereMoreover moreover it is required inof stewards that athey man be found faithfultrustworthy |
| 4:3 |
But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged ofby you or ofby mansany judgment:human yeacourt I judgedo not mineeven ownjudge selfmyself |
| 4:4 |
For I knowam nothingnot aware of anything against myself; yetbut I am I not herebythereby justified:acquitted butIt heis thatthe judgethLord mewho isjudges theme Lord |
| 4:5 |
WhereforeTherefore judgedo nothingnot pronounce judgment before the time untilbefore the Lord comecomes who will both bring to light the things now hidden thingsin of darkness and makewill manifestdisclose the counselspurposes of the hearts;heart andThen thenevery shallman eachwill manreceive have his praisecommendation from God |
| 4:6 |
Now these things brethren I have inapplied aall figurethis transferred to myself and ApollosApol′los for your sakes;benefit brethren that inyou usmay yelearn mightby learnus not to go beyond thewhat thingsis which are written; that nonone one of you may be puffed up forin thefavor of one against theanother other |
| 4:7 |
For who makethsees theeanything todifferent differin andyou whatWhat hasthave thouyou that thouyou didstdid not receive butIf ifthen thouyou didstreceived receive it why dostdo thouyou gloryboast as if thouit hadstwere not receiveda it gift |
| 4:8 |
Already you are ye filled alreadyAlready yeyou arehave become rich yeWithout haveus comeyou tohave reignbecome withoutkings us:And yea and I would that yeyou did reign so that we also might reignshare the rule with you |
| 4:9 |
For I think that God hathhas setexhibited forth us the apostles as last of all aslike men doomedsentenced to death:; forbecause we arehave madebecome a spectacle untoto the world both to angels and to men |
| 4:10 |
We are fools for Christs sake but yeyou are wise in Christ; weWe are weak but yeyou are strong; yeYou haveare gloryheld in honor but we havein dishonordisrepute |
| 4:11 |
EvenTo untothe this present hour we both hunger and thirst andwe are nakedill clad and are buffeted and havehomeless no certain dwelling place; |
| 4:12 |
and we toillabor working with our own hands: beingWhen reviled we bless; beingwhen persecuted we endure; |
| 4:13 |
beingwhen defamedslandered we entreat:try to conciliate; we have become and are madenow as the filthrefuse of the world the offscouring of all things even until now |
| 4:14 |
I writedo not thesewrite thingsthis to shamemake you ashamed but to admonish you as my beloved children |
| 4:15 |
For though yeyou have tencountless thousandguides tutors in Christ yetyou havedo ye not have many fathers; forFor I became your father in Christ Jesus I begat you through the gospel |
| 4:16 |
I beseechurge you thereforethen be ye imitators of me |
| 4:17 |
ForTherefore this cause have I sent untoto you Timothy who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord whoto shallremind put you in remembrance of my ways which are in Christ even as I teach them everywhere in every church |
| 4:18 |
NowSome some are puffedarrogant up as though I were not coming to you |
| 4:19 |
But I will come to you shortlysoon if the Lord will;wills and I will knowfind out not the wordtalk of themthese thatarrogant arepeople puffed up but thetheir power |
| 4:20 |
For the kingdom of God isdoes not consist in wordtalk but in power |
| 4:21 |
What willdo yeyou shallwish Shall I come untoto you with a rod or inwith love andin a spirit of gentleness |
| 5:1 |
It is actually reported that there is fornicationimmorality among you and suchof fornicationa askind that is not found even among thepagans; Gentilesfor thata oneman ofis youliving hathwith his fathers wife |
| 5:2 |
And yeyou are puffedarrogant upOught andyou did not rather to mourn thatLet hehim thatwho hadhas done this deed might be takenremoved away from among you |
| 5:3 |
For Ithough verily being absent in body butI am present in spirit haveand already as thoughif I were present judgedI himhave thatalready hathpronounced sojudgment wrought this thing |
| 5:4 |
in the name of ourthe Lord Jesus yeon beingthe gatheredman togetherwho has done such a thing When you are assembled and my spirit is present with the power of our Lord Jesus |
| 5:5 |
you are to deliver suchthis aman oneto unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh that thehis spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus |
| 5:6 |
Your gloryingboasting is not good KnowDo yeyou not know that a little leaven leavenethleavens the whole lump |
| 5:7 |
PurgeCleanse out the old leaven that yeyou may be a new lump even as yeyou really are unleavened For Christ our passoverpaschal alsolamb hathhas been sacrificed even Christ: |
| 5:8 |
whereforeLet let us keeptherefore celebrate the feastfestival not with the old leaven neither with the leaven of malice and wickednessevil but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth |
| 5:9 |
I wrote untoto you in my epistleletter not to haveassociate nowith companyimmoral with fornicatorsmen; |
| 5:10 |
not at all meaning with the fornicatorsimmoral of this world or with the covetousgreedy and extortionersrobbers or with idolaters; forsince then mustyou yewould needsneed to go out of the world: |
| 5:11 |
butBut asrather it is I wrote untoto you not to keepassociate companywith if any manone thatwho isbears namedthe aname of brother beif ahe fornicatoris guilty of immorality or covetousgreed or is an idolater orreviler adrunkard reviler or arobber—not drunkardeven orto aneat extortioner; with such a one no not to eat |
| 5:12 |
For what have I to do with judging themoutsiders thatIs areit withoutnot Dothose notinside yethe judgechurch themwhom thatyou are withinto judge |
| 5:13 |
ButGod themjudges thatthose areoutside withoutDrive Godout judgeth Put away the wicked manperson from among yourselvesyou |
| 6:1 |
DareWhen anyone of you havinghas a mattergrievance against hisa neighborbrother does he dare go to law before the unrighteous andinstead notof before the saints |
| 6:2 |
OrDo knowyou ye not know that the saints shallwill judge the world andAnd if the world is to be judged by you are yeyou unworthyincompetent to judgetry thetrivial smallestcases matters |
| 6:3 |
KnowDo yeyou not know that we shallare to judge angels howHow much more thingsmatters thatpertaining pertain to this life |
| 6:4 |
If then yeyou have tosuch judgecases thingswhy pertaining to this life do yeyou setlay them tobefore judgethose who are ofleast noesteemed accountby in the church |
| 6:5 |
I say this to moveyour youshame toCan shameit Whatbe cannotthat there beis foundno man among you one wise manenough who shall be able to decide between hismembers brethrenof the brotherhood |
| 6:6 |
but brother goethgoes to law withagainst brother and that before unbelievers |
| 6:7 |
NayTo alreadyhave itlawsuits isat altogetherall awith defectone inanother youis thatdefeat yefor haveyou lawsuits one with another Why not rather takesuffer wrong whyWhy not rather be defrauded |
| 6:8 |
NayBut butyou ye yourselves do wrong and defraud and that even your own brethren |
| 6:9 |
OrDo knowyou ye not know that the unrighteous shallwill not inherit the kingdom of God BeDo not be deceived:; neither fornicatorsthe immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor effeminatesexual norperverts abusers of themselves with men |
| 6:10 |
nor thieves nor covetousthe greedy nor drunkards nor revilers nor extortionersrobbers shallwill inherit the kingdom of God |
| 6:11 |
And such were some of you: butBut yeyou were washed butyou ye were sanctified butyou ye were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God |
| 6:12 |
All things are lawful for me; but not all things are expedienthelpful All things are lawful for me; but I will not be broughtenslaved underby theanything power of any |
| 6:13 |
MeatsFood is meant for the bellystomach and the bellystomach for meats:food—and but God shallwill bringdestroy to nought both itone and themthe Butother theThe body is not meant for fornicationimmorality but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body: |
| 6:14 |
andAnd God both raised the Lord and will also raise us up usby through his power |
| 6:15 |
KnowDo yeyou not know that your bodies are members of Christ shallShall I thentherefore take away the members of Christ and make them members of a harlotprostitute GodNever forbid |
| 6:16 |
OrDo knowyou ye not know that he thatwho isjoins joinedhimself to a harlotprostitute isbecomes one body forwith Theher twainFor saithas heit is written The two shall become one flesh |
| 6:17 |
But he thatwho is joinedunited untoto the Lord isbecomes one spirit with him |
| 6:18 |
FleeShun fornicationimmorality Every other sin thatwhich a man doethcommits is withoutoutside the body; but hethe thatimmoral committethman fornicationsins sinneth against his own body |
| 6:19 |
OrDo knowyou ye not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit whichwithin is in you which yeyou have from God andYou ye are not your own; |
| 6:20 |
foryou ye were bought with a price: So glorify God therefore in your body |
| 7:1 |
Now concerning the thingsmatters whereofabout yewhich you wrote: It is goodwell for a man not to touch a woman |
| 7:2 |
But because of fornicationsthe lettemptation to immorality each man should have his own wife and let each woman have her own husband |
| 7:3 |
LetThe the husband rendershould untogive theto his wife her due:conjugal rights and likewise also the wife untoto theher husband |
| 7:4 |
TheFor the wife hathdoes not powerrule over her own body but the husband: anddoes; likewise also the husband hathdoes not powerrule over his own body but the wife does |
| 7:5 |
DefraudDo ye not refuse one theanother other except itperhaps be by consentagreement for a season that yeyou may givedevote yourselves untoto prayer; andbut maythen become together again thatlest Satan tempt you notthrough becauselack of yourself incontinencycontrol |
| 7:6 |
But this I say this by way of concession not of commandmentcommand |
| 7:7 |
Yet I wouldwish that all men were even as I myself Howbeitam But each manhas hath his own special gift from God one afterof thisone mannerkind and anotherone afterof thatanother |
| 7:8 |
ButTo I say to the unmarried and tothe widows ItI say that it is goodwell for them ifto theyremain abidesingle even as I do |
| 7:9 |
But if they havecannot notexercise continencyself letcontrol themthey should marry: forFor it is better to marry than to burnbe aflame with passion |
| 7:10 |
ButTo unto the married I give charge yea not I but the Lord Thatthat the wife departshould not separate from her husband |
| 7:11 |
but shouldif she departdoes let her remain unmarriedsingle or else be reconciled to her husband; —and that the husband leaveshould not divorce his wife |
| 7:12 |
ButTo to the rest I say I not the Lord: Ifthat if any brother hathhas a wife who is an unbelievingunbeliever wife and she isconsents content to dwelllive with him lethe himshould not leavedivorce her |
| 7:13 |
AndIf theany woman thathas hatha husband who is an unbelievingunbeliever husband and he isconsents content to dwelllive with her letshe hershould not leavedivorce herhim husband |
| 7:14 |
For the unbelieving husband is sanctifiedconsecrated inthrough thehis wife and the unbelieving wife is sanctifiedconsecrated inthrough theher brother:husband elseOtherwise were your children would be unclean; but nowas areit is they are holy |
| 7:15 |
YetBut if the unbelieving departethpartner desires to separate let himit depart:be so; in such a case the brother or the sister is not underbound bondageFor in such cases: but God hathhas called us into peace |
| 7:16 |
ForWife how knowestdo thouyou Oknow wife whether thouyou shaltwill save thyyour husband orHusband how knowestdo thouyou Oknow husband whether thouyou shaltwill save thyyour wife |
| 7:17 |
Only aslet every one lead the life which the Lord hathhas distributedassigned to eachhim manand asin which God hathhas called each so let him walkThis Andis somy ordainrule I in all the churches |
| 7:18 |
Was any manone calledat beingthe time of his call already circumcised letLet him not becomeseek uncircumcisedto Hathremove the marks of circumcision Was any beenone calledat inthe uncircumcisiontime letof his call uncircumcised Let him not beseek circumcisedcircumcision |
| 7:19 |
CircumcisionFor isneither nothingcircumcision andcounts uncircumcisionfor isanything nothing;nor uncircumcision but the keeping of the commandments of God |
| 7:20 |
LetEvery eachone manshould abideremain in thatthe callingstate whereinin which he was called |
| 7:21 |
WastWere thouyou calleda beingslave awhen bondservantcalled careNever notmind forBut it:if nayyou evencan ifgain thouyour canstfreedom becomeavail freeyourself useof itthe ratheropportunity |
| 7:22 |
For he thatwho was called in the Lord beingas a bondservantslave is a freedman of the LordsLord freedman:Likewise likewise he thatwho was calledfree beingwhen freecalled is Christsa bondservantslave of Christ |
| 7:23 |
YeYou were bought with a price; becomedo not bondservantsbecome slaves of men |
| 7:24 |
BrethrenSo letbrethren eachin manwhatever whereinstate heeach was called thereinthere abidelet him remain with God |
| 7:25 |
Now concerning virginsthe unmarried I have no commandmentcommand of the Lord: but I give my judgmentopinion as one thatwho hathby obtained mercy of the LordLords tomercy beis trustworthy |
| 7:26 |
I think therefore that thisin isview good by reason of the present distress that is upon us namely that it is goodwell for a manperson to beremain as he is |
| 7:27 |
ArtAre thouyou bound untoto a wife seekDo not seek to be loosedfree ArtAre thouyou loosedfree from a wife seekDo not aseek wifemarriage |
| 7:28 |
But shouldestif thouyou marry thouyou hastdo not sinned;sin and if a virgingirl marrymarries she hathdoes not sinnedsin Yet suchthose shallwho havemarry tribulationwill inhave theworldly flesh:troubles and I would spare you that |
| 7:29 |
But this I saymean brethren the appointed time ishas shortenedgrown thatvery henceforthshort; bothfrom now on let those thatwho have wives maylive be as though they had none; |
| 7:30 |
and those thatwho weepmourn as though they weptwere not; mourning and those thatwho rejoice as though they rejoicedwere not; rejoicing and those thatwho buy as though they possessedhad not;no goods |
| 7:31 |
and those thatwho usedeal with the world as notthough usingthey ithad tono thedealings full:with forit For the fashionform of this world passethis passing away |
| 7:32 |
But I wouldwant have you to be free from caresanxieties HeThe thatunmarried isman unmarried is carefulanxious forabout the thingsaffairs of the Lord how heto may please the Lord:; |
| 7:33 |
but hethe thatmarried isman married is carefulanxious forabout theworldly thingsaffairs of the world how heto may please his wife |
| 7:34 |
and ishis interests are divided SoAnd also the woman that is unmarried andwoman theor virgingirl is carefulanxious forabout the thingsaffairs of the Lord thathow sheto may be holy both in body and in spirit:; but shethe thatmarried iswoman married is carefulanxious forabout theworldly thingsaffairs of the world how sheto may please her husband |
| 7:35 |
And this I say this for your own profit;benefit not thatto Ilay mayany castrestraint a snare upon you but forto thatpromote whichgood isorder seemly and thatto yesecure mayyour attendundivided upondevotion to the Lord without distraction |
| 7:36 |
ButIf if any manone thinkeththinks that he behavethis himselfnot unseemlybehaving properly toward his virginbetrothed daughter if shehis bepassions pastare thestrong flower of her age and ifit needhas soto requirethbe let him do whatas he will;wishes: he sinneth not; let them marry—it is no sin |
| 7:37 |
But hewhoever thatis standethfirmly stedfastestablished in his heart havingbeing under no necessity but hathhaving powerhis asdesire touchingunder hiscontrol own will and hathhas determined this in his own heart to keep her as his ownbetrothed virginhe daughterwill shall do well |
| 7:38 |
So thenthat both he thatwho givethmarries his ownbetrothed virgindoes daughter in marriage doeth well; and he thatwho givethrefrains herfrom not in marriage shallwill do better |
| 7:39 |
A wife is bound forto soher longhusband time as herlong husbandas liveth;he butlives ifIf the husband bedies dead she is free to be married to whom she will;wishes only in the Lord |
| 7:40 |
But in my judgment she is happier if she abideremains as she is afterAnd my judgment: and I think that I also have the Spirit of God |
| 8:1 |
Now concerning thingsfood sacrificedoffered to idols: Wewe know that we all haveof us possess knowledge Knowledge puffethpuffs up but love edifiethbuilds up |
| 8:2 |
If any manone thinkethimagines that he knowethknows anythingsomething he knowethdoes not yet know as he ought to know; |
| 8:3 |
butBut if anyone manloves loveth God theone same is known by him |
| 8:4 |
ConcerningHence thereforeas to the eating of thingsfood sacrificedoffered to idols we know that noan idol ishas anythingno inreal theexistence world and that there is no God but one |
| 8:5 |
For thoughalthough there may be thatso are called gods whether in heaven or on earth; —as indeed there are many gods and many and lords— many; |
| 8:6 |
yet tofor us there is one God the Father offrom whom are all things and for whom we untoexist him; and one Lord Jesus Christ through whom are all things and we through himwhom we exist |
| 8:7 |
HowbeitHowever there is not in all menpossess thatthis knowledge: butBut some through being usedhitherto untilaccustomed now to theidols idol eat food as ofreally aoffered thing sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled |
| 8:8 |
ButFood food will not commend us to God: neitherWe are no worse off if we eatdo not areeat weand theno worse;better noroff if we eatdo are we the better |
| 8:9 |
ButOnly take heedcare lest by any means this liberty of yours somehow become a stumblingblockstumbling block to the weak |
| 8:10 |
For if aany manone seesees theeyou whoa hastman of knowledge sitting at meattable in an idols temple willmight he not hisbe conscienceencouraged if hehis conscience is weak be emboldened to eat thingsfood sacrificedoffered to idols |
| 8:11 |
ForAnd throughso thyby your knowledge hethis thatweak man is weakdestroyed perisheth the brother for whosewhom sake Christ died |
| 8:12 |
AndThus thus sinning against theyour brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak yeyou sin against Christ |
| 8:13 |
WhereforeTherefore if meatfood causethis a cause of my brotherbrothers tofalling stumble I will never eat nomeat fleshlest for evermore that I cause not my brother to stumblefall |
| 9:1 |
Am I not free amAm I not an apostle haveHave I not seen Jesus our Lord areAre not yeyou my workworkmanship in the Lord |
| 9:2 |
If to others I am not an apostle yet at least I am to you; for you are the seal of minemy apostleship are ye in the Lord |
| 9:3 |
MyThis defenceis my defense to themthose thatwho would examine me is this |
| 9:4 |
HaveDo we nonot have the right to eatour food and to drink |
| 9:5 |
HaveDo we nonot have the right to leadbe aboutaccompanied by a wife that is a believer even as the restother of the apostles and the brethrenbrothers of the Lord and Cephas |
| 9:6 |
Or Iis it only Barnabas and BarnabasI who have weno not a right to forbearrefrain from working for a living |
| 9:7 |

If we sowedhave untosown you spiritual thingsgood among you is it atoo greatmuch matter if we shall reap your carnalmaterial thingsbenefits |

If others partakeshare of this rightrightful overclaim upon you do not we yetstill more Nevertheless we didhave not made use of this right; but we bearendure allanything thingsrather thatthan weput mayan causeobstacle noin hindrancethe toway of the gospel of Christ |

| 9:14 |
EvenIn sothe didsame way the Lord ordaincommanded that theythose thatwho proclaim the gospel should liveget oftheir living by the gospel |
| 9:15 |
But I have usedmade noneno use of theseany things:of and I write not these thingsrights thatnor itam mayI bewriting sothis doneto insecure myany case;such forprovision itFor wereI goodwould for me rather to die than thathave any manone shoulddeprive makeme of my gloryingground voidfor boasting |
| 9:16 |
For if I preach the gospel Ithat havegives nothingme tono gloryground of; for boasting For necessity is laid upon me; forWoe woeto is unto me if I preachdo not preach the gospel |
| 9:17 |
For if I do this of minemy own will I have a reward:; but if not of minemy own will I haveam aentrusted stewardshipwith intrusteda tocommission me |
| 9:18 |
What then is my reward ThatJust whenthis: Ithat preachin themy gospelpreaching I may make the gospel withoutfree of charge sonot asmaking notfull to use toof the full my right in the gospel |
| 9:19 |
For though I wasam free from all men I broughthave made myself undera bondageslave to all that I might gainwin the more |
| 9:20 |
AndTo to the Jews I became as a Jew thatin Iorder mightto gainwin Jews; to themthose that are under the law I became as one under the law—though not being myself under the law —that I might gainwin themthose that are under the law; |
| 9:21 |
toTo themthose thatoutside arethe without law I became as withoutone outside the law —not being without law totoward God but under the law toof Christ —that I might gainwin themthose thatoutside arethe without law |
| 9:22 |
To the weak I became weak that I might gainwin the weak: I amhave become all things to all men that I maymight by all means save some |
| 9:23 |
And I do it all things for the gospels sake of the gospel that I may beshare ain jointits partaker thereof blessings |
| 9:24 |
KnowDo yeyou not thatknow they that run in a race run all the runners compete but only one receivethreceives the prize EvenSo so run; that yeyou may attainobtain it |
| 9:25 |
AndEvery everyathlete manexercises that striveth in the games exerciseth self control in all things NowThey they do it to receive a corruptibleperishable crown;wreath but we an incorruptibleimperishable |
| 9:26 |
Well I thereforedo sonot run asaimlessly notI uncertainly;do sonot fightbox I as notone beating the air:; |
| 9:27 |
but I buffetpommel my body and bringsubdue it into bondage: lest by any means after thatpreaching I have preached to others I myself should be rejecteddisqualified |
| 10:1 |
For I wouldwant notyou brethrento haveknow youbrethren ignorant that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea; |
| 10:2 |
and all were all baptized untointo Moses in the cloud and in the sea; |
| 10:3 |
and did all eatate the same spiritualsupernatural food; |
| 10:4 |
and did all drinkdrank the same spiritualsupernatural drink: forFor they drank offrom athe spiritualsupernatural rockRock thatwhich followed them: and the rockRock was Christ |
| 10:5 |
HowbeitNevertheless with most of them God was not well pleased:; for they were overthrown in the wilderness |
| 10:6 |
Now these things wereare ourwarnings examplesfor tous the intent we should not lustto afterdesire evil things as they alsodid lusted |
| 10:7 |
NeitherDo not be ye idolaters as were some of them were; as it is written The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to playdance |
| 10:8 |
NeitherWe letmust usnot commitindulge fornicationin immorality as some of them committeddid and felltwenty inthree onethousand dayfell threein anda twentysingle thousandday |
| 10:9 |
NeitherWe letmust usnot makeput trialthe ofLord to the Lordtest as some of them madedid trial and perishedwere destroyed by the serpents; |
| 10:10 |
Neithernor murmurgrumble ye as some of them murmureddid and perishedwere destroyed by the destroyerDestroyer |
| 10:11 |
Now these things happened untoto them byas waya ofwarning example;but and they were written down for our admonitioninstruction upon whom the endsend of the ages arehas come |
| 10:12 |
WhereforeTherefore let himany one who thinks that thinketh he standethstands take heed lest he fall |
| 10:13 |
ThereNo hathtemptation nohas temptationovertaken taken you butthat suchis asnot mancommon canto bear:man but God is faithful whoand he will not sufferlet you to be tempted abovebeyond thatyour yestrength are able; but will with the temptation makewill also provide the way of escape that yeyou may be able to endure it |
| 10:14 |
WhereforeTherefore my beloved fleeshun fromthe idolatryworship of idols |
| 10:15 |
I speak as to wisesensible men; judge yefor yourselves what I say |
| 10:16 |
The cup of blessing which we bless is it not a communionparticipation ofin the blood of Christ The bread which we break is it not a communionparticipation ofin the body of Christ |
| 10:17 |
seeingBecause thatthere is one bread we who are many are one bread one body: for we all partake of the one bread |
| 10:18 |
BeholdConsider Israelthe afterpeople theof flesh:Israel; haveare not theythose thatwho eat the sacrifices communionpartners within the altar |
| 10:19 |
What saydo I imply then thatThat afood thingoffered sacrificed to idols is anything or that an idol is anything |
| 10:20 |
ButNo I sayimply that thewhat thingspagans which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrificeoffer to demons and not to God: and I woulddo not thatwant yeyou shouldto havebe communionpartners with demons |
| 10:21 |
YeYou cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons: yeYou cannot partake of the table of the Lord and of the table of demons |
| 10:22 |
OrShall do we provoke the Lord to jealousy areAre we stronger than he |
| 10:23 |
All things are lawful; but not all things are expedienthelpful All things are lawful; but not all things edifybuild up |
| 10:24 |
Let no manone seek his own good but eachthe good of his neighborsneighbor good |
| 10:25 |
WhatsoeverEat whatever is sold in the shamblesmeat eatmarket askingwithout noraising any question foron the ground of conscience sake; |
| 10:26 |
forFor the earth is the Lords and theeverything fulnessin thereofit |
| 10:27 |
If one of themthe thatunbelievers believeinvites not biddeth you to adinner feast and yeyou are disposed to go; whatsoevereat whatever is set before you eatwithout askingraising noany question foron the ground of conscience sake |
| 10:28 |
But if anysome manone saysays untoto you This hathhas been offered in sacrifice eatthen notout of consideration for histhe sakeman thatwho showedinformed ityou and for conscience sake:— |
| 10:29 |
conscience I saymean his conscience not thineyours—do ownnot buteat theit others; For for why isshould my liberty judgedbe determined by another consciencemans scruples |
| 10:30 |
If I partake with thankfulness why am I evildenounced spokenbecause of for that for which I give thanks |
| 10:31 |
WhetherSo thereforewhether yeyou eat or drink or whatsoeverwhatever yeyou do do all to the glory of God |
| 10:32 |
Give no occasionoffense of stumbling either to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God: |
| 10:33 |
evenjust as I alsotry to please all men in alleverything thingsI do not seeking minemy own profitadvantage but thethat profit of the many that they may be saved |
| 11:1 |
Be ye imitators of me even as I also am of Christ |
| 11:2 |
Now I praisecommend you thatbecause yeyou remember me in alleverything things and holdmaintain fast the traditions even as I have delivered them to you |
| 11:3 |
But I wouldwant have you knowto understand that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of thea woman is theher man;husband and the head of Christ is God |
| 11:4 |
EveryAny man prayingwho prays or prophesyingprophesies havingwith his head covered dishonorethdishonors his head |
| 11:5 |
Butbut everyany woman prayingwho prays or prophesyingprophesies with her head unveiled dishonorethdishonors her head; for —it is one and the same thing as if sheher head were shaven |
| 11:6 |
For if a woman iswill not veiledveil letherself herthen alsoshe beshould shorn:cut off her hair; but if it is adisgraceful shamefor to a woman to be shorn or shaven let her bewear veileda veil |
| 11:7 |
For a man indeed ought not to havecover his head veiledsince forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God:; but the woman is the glory of the man |
| 11:8 |
For the man iswas not ofmade thefrom woman; but the woman offrom the man: |
| 11:9 |
forNeither neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man: |
| 11:10 |
forThat thisis causewhy oughta the woman ought to have a signveil of authority on her head because of the angels |
| 11:11 |
Nevertheless neitherin is the Lord woman withoutis thenot independent of man nor the man withoutof the woman; in the Lord |
| 11:12 |
Forfor as the woman iswas ofmade thefrom man so man is thenow manborn alsoof by the woman; butAnd all things are offrom God |
| 11:13 |
Judge yefor in yourselves:; is it seemlyproper thatfor a woman to pray untoto God unveiledwith her head uncovered |
| 11:14 |
DothDoes not even nature itself teach you that iffor a man haveto wear long hair it is adegrading dishonor to him |
| 11:15 |
Butbut if a woman havehas long hair it is aher glorypride toFor her: for her hair is given to her for a covering |
| 11:16 |
ButIf if any manone seemethis disposed to be contentious we haverecognize no suchother custompractice neithernor do the churches of God |
| 11:17 |
But in givingthe youfollowing thisinstructions charge I praisedo not commend you notbecause thatwhen yeyou come together it is not for the better but for the worse |
| 11:18 |
For in the first ofplace all when yeyou comeassemble togetheras ina the church I hear that there are divisions exist among you; and I partly believe it |
| 11:19 |
Forfor there must be also factions among you thatin theyorder that those who are approvedgenuine among you may be maderecognized manifest among you |
| 11:20 |
When thereforeyou yemeet assemble yourselves together it is not possible to eat the Lords supper: that you eat |
| 11:21 |
forFor in your eating each one takethgoes beforeahead otherwith his own supper;meal and one is hungry and another is drunkendrunk |
| 11:22 |
What haveDo yeyou not have houses to eat and to drink in orOr do you despise ye the church of God and puthumiliate themthose towho shame that have notnothing What shall I say to you shallShall I praisecommend you Inin this No I praisewill you not |
| 11:23 |
For I received offrom the Lord thatwhat whichI also I delivered untoto you that the Lord Jesus inon the night inwhen which he was betrayed took bread; |
| 11:24 |
and when he had given thanks he brakebroke it and said This is my body which is for you: Do this do in remembrance of me |
| 11:25 |
In likethe mannersame way also the cup after supper saying This cup is the new covenant in my blood: Do this do as often as yeyou drink it in remembrance of me |
| 11:26 |
For as often as yeyou eat this bread and drink the cup yeyou proclaim the Lords death tilluntil he come comes |
| 11:27 |
WhereforeWhoever whosoevertherefore shalleats eat the bread or drinkdrinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner shallwill be guilty of profaning the body and the blood of the Lord |
| 11:28 |
ButLet let a man proveexamine himself and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup |
| 11:29 |
For heany thatone eatethwho eats and drinkethdrinks eatethwithout anddiscerning drinkeththe judgmentbody untoeats himselfand ifdrinks hejudgment discernupon nothimself the body |
| 11:30 |
ForThat thisis causewhy many amongof you are weak and sicklyill and notsome ahave fewdied sleep |
| 11:31 |
But if we discernedjudged ourselves truly we should not be judged |
| 11:32 |
But when we are judged by the Lord we are chastened ofso the Lord that we may not be condemned along with the world |
| 11:33 |
WhereforeSo then my brethren when yeyou come together to eat wait for one for another— |
| 11:34 |
Ifif any manone is hungry let him eat at home;—lest thatyou yourcome coming together to be notcondemned untoAbout judgment And the restother willthings I setwill ingive orderdirections whensoeverwhen I come |
| 12:1 |
Now concerning spiritual gifts brethren I woulddo not havewant you ignorantto be uninformed |
| 12:2 |
YeYou know that when yeyou were Gentilesheathen yeyou were led awayastray untoto those dumb idols howsoeverhowever yeyou mightmay behave ledbeen moved |
| 12:3 |
WhereforeTherefore I makewant knownyou untoto youunderstand that no manone speaking inby the Spirit of God saithever says Jesus isbe anathema;cursed and no manone can say Jesus is Lord butexcept inby the Holy Spirit |
| 12:4 |
Now there are diversitiesvarieties of gifts but the same Spirit; |
| 12:5 |
Andand there are diversitiesvarieties of ministrationsservice andbut the same Lord; |
| 12:6 |
Andand there are diversitiesvarieties of workingsworking but it is the same God who workethinspires them all things in allevery one |
| 12:7 |
ButTo to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit tofor profitthe withalcommon good |
| 12:8 |
ForTo to one is given through the Spirit the wordutterance of wisdom; and to another the wordutterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit: |
| 12:9 |
to another faith inby the same Spirit; and to another gifts of healingshealing inby the one Spirit; |
| 12:10 |
and to another workingsthe working of miracles; and to another prophecy; and to another discerningsthe ofability to distinguish between spirits: to another diversvarious kinds of tongues; and to another the interpretation of tongues: |
| 12:11 |
butAll all these workethare theinspired by one and the same Spirit dividingwho apportions to each one severallyindividually even as he willwills |
| 12:12 |
For just as the body is one and hathhas many members and all the members of the body beingthough many are one body; so alsoit is with Christ |
| 12:13 |
For inby one Spirit we were we all baptized into one body whether —Jews or Greeks whetherslaves bond or free; —and all were all made to drink of one Spirit |
| 12:14 |
For the body isdoes not consist of one member but of many |
| 12:15 |
If the foot shallshould say Because I am not thea hand I amdo not ofbelong to the body; itthat iswould not thereforemake notit any less a part of the body |
| 12:16 |
And if the ear shallshould say Because I am not thean eye I amdo not ofbelong to the body; itthat iswould not thereforemake notit any less a part of the body |
| 12:17 |
If the whole body were an eye where werewould be the hearing If the whole body were hearingan ear where werewould be the smellingsense of smell |
| 12:18 |
But nowas hathit is God setarranged the membersorgans in the body each one of them in the body even as ithe pleasedchose him |
| 12:19 |
AndIf ifall they were alla onesingle memberorgan where werewould the body be |
| 12:20 |
ButAs nowit theyis there are many membersparts butyet one body |
| 12:21 |
AndThe the eye cannot say to the hand I have no need of thee:you ornor again the head to the feet I have no need of you |
| 12:22 |
NayOn muchthe rathercontrary thosethe membersparts of the body which seem to be moreweaker feeble are necessary:indispensable |
| 12:23 |
and those parts of the body which we think to be less honorable uponwe theseinvest wewith bestowthe moregreater abundant honor; and our uncomelyunpresentable parts haveare moretreated abundantwith comeliness;greater modesty |
| 12:24 |
whereaswhich our comelymore presentable parts havedo nonot need:require butBut God temperedhas so composed the body together giving morethe abundantgreater honor to thatthe inferior part which lacked; |
| 12:25 |
that there shouldmay be no schismdiscord in the body; but that the members shouldmay have the same care for one for another |
| 12:26 |
AndIf whether one member sufferethsuffers all the members suffer with ittogether; orif one member is honored all the members rejoice with it together |
| 12:27 |
Now yeyou are the body of Christ and severallyindividually members thereofof it |
| 12:28 |
And God hathhas setappointed some in the church first apostles secondlysecond prophets thirdlythird teachers then workers of miracles then giftshealers ofhelpers healingsadministrators helpsspeakers governmentsin diversvarious kinds of tongues |
| 12:29 |
Are all apostles areAre all prophets areAre all teachers areDo all workerswork of miracles |
| 12:30 |
haveDo all possess gifts of healingshealing doDo all speak with tongues doDo all interpret |
| 12:31 |
But earnestly desire earnestly the greaterhigher gifts And moreoverI awill mostshow excellentyou waya showstill Imore untoexcellent youway |
| 13:1 |
If I speak within the tongues of men and of angels but have not love I am becomea soundingnoisy brassgong or a clanging cymbal |
| 13:2 |
And if I have theprophetic giftpowers of prophecy and knowunderstand all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains but have not love I am nothing |
| 13:3 |
AndIf if I bestowgive away all myI goodshave to feed the poor and if I givedeliver my body to be burned but have not love itI profitethgain me nothing |
| 13:4 |
Love sufferethis longpatient and is kind; love enviethis not; lovejealous vauntethor notboastful; itself is not puffed up |
| 13:5 |
dothit is not behavearrogant itselfor unseemlyrude seekethLove does not insist on its own isway; notit provokedis taketh not accountirritable ofor evilresentful; |
| 13:6 |
rejoicethit does not inrejoice unrighteousnessat wrong but rejoicethrejoices within the truth;right |
| 13:7 |
bearethLove bears all things believethbelieves all things hopethhopes all things endurethendures all things |
| 13:8 |
Love never faileth:ends; butas whetherfor there be prophecies they shallwill bepass done away; whetheras therefor be tongues they shallwill cease; whetheras therefor be knowledge it shallwill bepass done away |
| 13:9 |
For weour knowknowledge inis partimperfect and weour prophesyprophecy inis partimperfect; |
| 13:10 |
but when thatthe which is perfect iscomes comethe thatimperfect whichwill ispass in part shall be done away |
| 13:11 |
When I was a child I spakespoke aslike a child I feltthought aslike a child I thoughtreasoned aslike a child:; nowwhen that I ambecame become a man I havegave putup away childish thingsways |
| 13:12 |
For now we see in a mirror darkly;dimly but then face to face: nowNow I know in part; but then I shall Iunderstand know fully even as also I washave been fully knownunderstood |
| 13:13 |
ButSo now abideth faith hope love abide these three; andbut the greatest of these is love |
| 14:1 |
FollowMake after love; yetyour desireaim and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts butespecially rather that yeyou may prophesy |
| 14:2 |
For heone thatwho speakethspeaks in a tongue speakethspeaks not untoto men but untoto God; for no manone understandeth;understands him but inhe theutters spiritmysteries hein speakeththe mysteriesSpirit |
| 14:3 |
ButOn the other hand he thatwho prophesiethprophesies speakethspeaks untoto men edificationfor their upbuilding and exhortationencouragement and consolation |
| 14:4 |
He thatwho speakethspeaks in a tongue edifiethedifies himself; but he thatwho prophesiethprophesies edifiethedifies the church |
| 14:5 |
Now I wouldwant have you all to speak within tongues but rathereven thatmore yeto should prophesy: andHe greaterwho prophesies is hegreater that prophesieth than he thatwho speakethspeaks within tongues exceptunless hesome interpretone interprets so that the church may receivebe edifying edified |
| 14:6 |
ButNow now brethren if I come untoto you speaking within tongues whathow shall I profitbenefit you unless I speakbring to you eithersome by way of revelation or of knowledge or ofprophecy prophesying or of teaching |
| 14:7 |
EvenIf thingseven withoutlifeless lifeinstruments givingsuch aas voicethe whetherflute pipe or the harp ifdo theynot give notdistinct anotes distinction in the sounds how shallwill itany beone knownknow what is pipedplayed or harped |
| 14:8 |
ForAnd if the trumpetbugle givegives an uncertainindistinct voicesound who shallwill prepareget himselfready for warbattle |
| 14:9 |
So alsowith yeyourselves; unlessif yeyou utterin bya the tongue utter speech easythat tois benot understoodintelligible how shallwill itany beone knownknow what is spokensaid forFor yeyou will be speaking into the air |
| 14:10 |
There are itdoubtless may be so many kindsdifferent oflanguages voices in the world and nonone kind is without significationmeaning; |
| 14:11 |
Ifbut thenif I knowdo not know the meaning of the voicelanguage I shall be toa himforeigner thatto speakeththe aspeaker barbarian and hethe thatspeaker speaketh will be a barbarianforeigner untoto me |
| 14:12 |
So alsowith yeyourselves; since yeyou are zealouseager offor spiritualmanifestations giftsof seekthe thatSpirit yestrive mayto aboundexcel untoin thebuilding edifyingup of the church |
| 14:13 |
WhereforeTherefore lethe himwho thatspeaks speaketh in a tongue should pray thatfor hethe maypower to interpret |
| 14:14 |
For if I pray in a tongue my spirit prayethprays but my understandingmind is unfruitful |
| 14:15 |
What isam itI thento do I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the understandingmind also:; I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the understandingmind also |
| 14:16 |
ElseOtherwise if thouyou bless with the spirit how shallcan heany thatone fillethin the placeposition of thean unlearnedoutsider say the Amen atto thyyour givingthanksgiving ofwhen thanks seeing he knowethdoes not know what thouyou sayestare saying |
| 14:17 |
For thouyou verilymay givestgive thanks well enough but the other man is not edified |
| 14:18 |
I thank God that I speak within tongues more than you all:; |
| 14:19 |
howbeitnevertheless in the church I hadwould rather speak five words with my understandingmind thatin Iorder mightto instruct others also than ten thousand words in a tongue |
| 14:20 |
Brethren bedo not be children in mind:your yetthinking; inbe malicebabes bein yeevil babes but in mindthinking be menmature |
| 14:21 |
In the law it is written By men of strange tongues and by the lips of strangersforeigners will I speak untoto this people; and not even thusthen they will theynot hearlisten to me saithsays the Lord |
| 14:22 |
WhereforeThus tongues are for a sign not tofor thembelievers that believe but tofor theunbelievers unbelieving:while butprophecy prophesying is for a sign not tofor theunbelievers unbelieving but tofor thembelievers that believe |
| 14:23 |
If therefore the whole church beassembles assembled together and all speak within tongues and thereoutsiders comeor inunbelievers menenter unlearned or unbelieving will they not say that yeyou are mad |
| 14:24 |
But if all prophesy and therean comeunbeliever inor oneoutsider unbelievingenters or unlearned he is reprovedconvicted by all he is judgedcalled to account by all; |
| 14:25 |
the secrets of his heart are made manifestdisclosed; and so hefalling will fall down on his face andhe will worship God declaringand declare that God is really among you indeed |
| 14:26 |
What is it then brethren When yeyou come together each one hathhas a psalmhymn hath a teachinglesson hath a revelation hath a tongue hathor an interpretation Let all things be done untofor edifyingedification |
| 14:27 |
If any manspeak speaketh in a tongue let itthere be byonly two or at the most three and thateach in turn; and let one interpret: |
| 14:28 |
butBut if there beis no interpreterone to interpret let himeach of them keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself and to God |
| 14:29 |
AndLet lettwo theor three prophets speak by two or three and let the others discernweigh what is said |
| 14:30 |
ButIf if a revelation beis made to another sitting by let the first keepbe silencesilent |
| 14:31 |
For yeyou can all can prophesy one by one so that all may learn and all may be exhortedencouraged; |
| 14:32 |
and the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets; |
| 14:33 |
forFor God is not a God of confusion but of peace As in all the churches of the saints |
| 14:34 |
let the women should keep silence in the churches: forFor itthey isare not permitted unto them to speak; but letshould them be insubordinate subjection as alsoeven saith the law says |
| 14:35 |
AndIf ifthere is anything they woulddesire learnto anythingknow let them ask their own husbands at home: forFor it is shameful for a woman to speak in the church |
| 14:36 |
What wasDid it from you that the word of God wentoriginate forthwith you or cameare you the only ones it untohas you alonereached |
| 14:37 |
If any manone thinkeththinks himselfthat tohe beis a prophet or spiritual lethe himshould takeacknowledge knowledgethat ofwhat theI thingsam whichwriting Ito write unto you thatis theya arecommand the commandment of the Lord |
| 14:38 |
ButIf if any manone isdoes ignorantnot letrecognize himthis behe ignorantis not recognized |
| 14:39 |
WhereforeSo my brethren earnestly desire earnestly to prophesy and forbiddo not toforbid speakspeaking within tongues; |
| 14:40 |
Butbut let all things should be done decently and in order |
| 15:1 |
Now I makewould knownremind unto you brethren thein gospelwhat whichterms I preached untoto you the gospel which alsoyou ye received whereinin alsowhich yeyou stand |
| 15:2 |
by which alsoyou ye are saved if yeyou hold it fast—unless the word which I preached unto you except ye believed in vain |
| 15:3 |
For I delivered untoto you firstas of allfirst thatimportance whichwhat I also I received: that Christ died for our sins accordingin toaccordance with the scriptures; |
| 15:4 |
and that he was buried; and that he hathwas been raised on the third day accordingin toaccordance with the scriptures; |
| 15:5 |
and that he appeared to Cephas; then to the twelve; |
| 15:6 |
thenThen he appeared to abovemore than five hundred brethren at onceone time most of whom theare greaterstill partalive remainthough until now but some arehave fallen asleep; |
| 15:7 |
thenThen he appeared to James; then to all the apostles; |
| 15:8 |
andLast last of all as to theone child untimely born he appeared also to me also |
| 15:9 |
For I am the least of the apostles thatunfit am not meet to be called an apostle because I persecuted the church of God |
| 15:10 |
But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace whichtoward was bestowed upon me was not foundin vain; butOn the contrary I laboredworked moreharder abundantly than theyany all:of yetthem though it was not I but the grace of God which wasis with me |
| 15:11 |
Whether then it bewas I or they so we preach and so yeyou believed |
| 15:12 |
Now if Christ is preached thatas he hath been raised from the dead how saycan some amongof you say that there is no resurrection of the dead |
| 15:13 |
But if there is no resurrection of the dead neitherthen hath Christ has not been raised:; |
| 15:14 |
and if Christ hathhas not been raised then is our preaching is in vain and your faith also is in vain |
| 15:15 |
YeaWe andare weeven are found falseto witnessesbe ofmisrepresenting God; because we witnessedtestified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raiseddid not upraise if soit beis true that the dead are not raised |
| 15:16 |
For if the dead are not raised neitherthen hath Christ has not been raised: |
| 15:17 |
andIf if Christ hathhas not been raised your faith is vain;futile yeand you are yetstill in your sins |
| 15:18 |
Then theythose also thatwho arehave fallen asleep in Christ have perished |
| 15:19 |
If for this life only we have only hoped in Christ in this life we are of all men most pitiableto be pitied |
| 15:20 |
But nowin hathfact Christ has been raised from the dead the first fruits of themthose thatwho arehave fallen asleep |
| 15:21 |
For sinceas by a man came death by a man camehas come also the resurrection of the dead |
| 15:23 |
But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits; then theyat thathis arecoming Christsthose atwho hisbelong comingto Christ |
| 15:24 |
Then comethcomes the end when he shalldelivers deliver up the kingdom to God even the Father; whenafter hedestroying shallevery have abolished all rule and allevery authority and power |
| 15:25 |
For he must reign tilluntil he hathhas put all his enemies under his feet |
| 15:26 |
The last enemy thatto shall be abolisheddestroyed is death |
| 15:27 |
For HeGod has put all things in subjection under his feet But when heit saithsays All things are put in subjection under him it is evidentplain that he is excepted who didput subject all things untounder him |
| 15:28 |
AndWhen when all things haveare been subjected untoto him then shall the Son himself will also himself be subjected to him thatwho didput subject all things untounder him that God may be alleverything into allevery one |
| 15:29 |
ElseOtherwise what shalldo theypeople domean thatby arebeing baptized foron behalf of the dead If the dead are not raised at all why then are theypeople baptized foron themtheir behalf |
| 15:30 |
whyWhy doam weI also stand in jeopardyperil every hour |
| 15:31 |
I protest brethren by thatmy gloryingpride in you brethren which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord I die dailyevery day |
| 15:32 |
IfWhat afterdo theI mannergain ofif menhumanly speaking I fought with beasts at Ephesus what doth it profit me If the dead are not raised letLet us eat and drink for totomorrow morrow we die |
| 15:33 |
BeDo not be deceived: EvilBad companionshipscompany corruptruins good morals |
| 15:34 |
AwakeCome to sobernessyour righteouslyright mind and sin not;no formore For some have no knowledge of God: I speaksay this to moveyour you to shame |
| 15:35 |
But some one will sayask How are the dead raised andWith with what mannerkind of body do they come |
| 15:36 |
ThouYou foolish oneman thatWhat whichyou thousow thyselfdoes sowestnot iscome notto quickenedlife exceptunless it die:dies |
| 15:37 |
andAnd thatwhat whichyou thousow sowestis thou sowest not the body thatwhich shallis to be but a bare grainkernel itperhaps may chance of wheat or of some other kind;grain |
| 15:38 |
butBut God givethgives it a body even as ithe pleasedhas himchosen and to each seedkind aof bodyseed of its own body |
| 15:39 |
AllFor not all flesh is notalike the same flesh: but there is one fleshkind offor men and another fleshfor ofanimals beasts and another fleshfor of birds and another offor fishesfish |
| 15:40 |
There are also celestial bodies and bodiesthere are terrestrial: bodies; but the glory of the celestial is one and the glory of the terrestrial is another |
| 15:41 |
There is one glory of the sun and another glory of the moon and another glory of the stars; for one star differethdiffers from another star in glory |
| 15:42 |
So also is it with the resurrection of the dead ItWhat is sown inis corruption;perishable itwhat is raised inis incorruption:imperishable |
| 15:43 |
itIt is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory: itIt is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: |
| 15:44 |
itIt is sown a naturalphysical body; it is raised a spiritual body If there is a naturalphysical body there is also a spiritual body |
| 15:45 |
SoThus also it is written The first man Adam became a living soulbeing; Thethe last Adam became a life giving spirit |
| 15:46 |
HowbeitBut thatit is not firstthe spiritual which is spiritualfirst but thatthe whichphysical isand natural; then thatthe which is spiritual |
| 15:47 |
The first man iswas offrom the earth earthy:a man of dust; the second man is offrom heaven |
| 15:48 |
As iswas the earthyman suchof dust so are theythose alsowho that are earthy:of the dust; and as is the heavenlyman suchof heaven so are theythose alsowho that are heavenlyof heaven |
| 15:49 |
AndJust as we have borne the image of the earthyman of dust we shall also bear the image of the heavenlyman of heaven |
| 15:50 |
NowI thistell Iyou saythis brethren: that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neithernor dothdoes corruptionthe perishable inherit incorruptionthe imperishable |
| 15:51 |
BeholdLo I tell you a mystery: We all shall not all sleep but we shall all be changed |
| 15:52 |
in a moment in the twinkling of an eye at the last trump:trumpet forFor the trumpet shallwill sound and the dead shallwill be raised incorruptibleimperishable and we shall be changed |
| 15:53 |
For this corruptibleperishable nature must put on incorruptionthe imperishable and this mortal nature must put on immortality |
| 15:54 |
ButWhen whenthe thisperishable corruptibleputs shallon havethe putimperishable on incorruption and thisthe mortal shallputs have put on immortality then shall come to pass the saying that is written: Death is swallowed up in victory |
| 15:56 |
The sting of death is sin; and the power of sin is the law: |
| 15:57 |
butBut thanks be to God who givethgives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ |
| 15:58 |
WhereforeTherefore my beloved brethren be yesteadfast stedfastimmovable unmoveable always abounding in the work of the Lord forasmuchknowing asthat yein knowthe thatLord your labor is not vain in the Lordvain |
| 16:1 |
