| 1:1 |
Now it came toabout pass after the death of Moses the servant of Jehovah, the Lord that Jehovahthe spakeLord untospoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses ministerservant, saying, |
| 1:2 |
Moses myMy servant is dead; now therefore arise, gocross over this Jordan, thou, you and all this people, untoto the land which I doam givegiving to them, even to the childrensons of Israel. |
| 1:3 |
Every place thaton which the sole of your foot shall tread upontreads, toI you have I given it to you, just as I spakespoke untoto Moses. |
| 1:4 |
From the wilderness, and this Lebanon, even untoas far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and untoas far as the greatGreat seaSea toward the goingsetting down of the sun, shallwill be your borderterritory. |
| 1:5 |
ThereNo shallman notwill any man be able to stand before theeyou all the days of thyyour life:. Just as I washave been with Moses, so I will be with theeyou; I will not fail thee, you noror forsake theeyou. |
| 1:6 |
Be strong and ofcourageous, good courage; for thouyou shaltshall causegive this people topossession inheritof the land which I swareswore untoto their fathers to give them. |
| 1:7 |
Only be strong and very courageous,; tobe observecareful to do according to all the law, which Moses myMy servant commanded thee:you; turndo not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, so that thouyou mayestmay have good success whithersoeverwherever thouyou goestgo. |
| 1:8 |
This book of the law shall not depart outfrom ofyour thy mouth, but thouyou shaltshall meditate thereonon it day and night, so that thouyou mayestmay observebe careful to do according to all that is written therein:in it; for then thouyou shaltwill make thyyour way prosperous, and then thouyou shaltwill have good success. |
| 1:9 |
Have I not I commanded theeyou? Be strong and ofcourageous! goodDo courage; be not affrighted, tremble neitheror be thou dismayed:, for Jehovahthe thyLord your God is with theeyou whithersoeverwherever thouyou goestgo. |
| 1:11 |
Pass through the midst of the camp, and command the people, saying, Prepare youprovisions victuals;for yourselves, for within three days yeyou are to passcross over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which Jehovahthe Lord your God givethis giving you, to possess it. |
| 1:12 |
And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, sayingsaid, |
| 1:13 |
Remember the word which Moses the servant of Jehovahthe Lord commanded you, saying, JehovahThe Lord your God givethgives you rest, and will give you this land. |
| 1:14 |
Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall abideremain in the land which Moses gave you beyond the Jordan;, but yeyou shall passcross over before your brethrenbrothers armedin battle array, all theyour mightyvaliant men of valorwarriors, and shall help them;, |
| 1:15 |
until Jehovahthe haveLord givengives your brethrenbrothers rest, as heHe hathgives given you, and they also havepossess possessed the land which Jehovahthe Lord your God givethis giving them:. thenThen yeyou shall return untoto theyour own land of your possession, and possess it,that which Moses the servant of Jehovahthe Lord gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrisingsunrise. |
| 1:16 |
And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thouyou hasthave commanded us we will do, and whithersoeverwherever thouyou sendestsend us we will go. |
| 1:17 |
AccordingJust as we hearkenedobeyed unto Moses in all things, so will we hearkenwill untoobey thee:you; only Jehovahmay thythe Lord your God be with theeyou, as heHe was with Moses. |
| 1:18 |
WhosoeverAnyone hewho berebels that shall rebel against thyyour commandment, command and shalldoes not hearkenobey untoyour thy words in all that thouyou commandestcommand him, he shall be put to death:; only be strong and of good couragecourageous. |
| 2:1 |
AndThen Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men as spies secretly from Shittim, saying, Go, view the land, andespecially Jericho. AndSo they went and came into the house of a harlot whose name was Rahab, and laylodged there. |
| 2:2 |
And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men infrom hitherthe tosons night of theIsrael childrenhave ofcome Israelhere tonight to search out the land. |
| 2:3 |
And the king of Jericho sent untoword to Rahab, saying, Bring forthout the men thatwho arehave come to theeyou, thatwho arehave entered intoyour thy house;, for they arehave come to search out all the land. |
| 2:4 |
AndBut the woman tookhad taken the two men, and hidhidden them;, and she said, YeaYes, the men came untoto me, but I knewdid not whenceknow where they were: from. |
| 2:5 |
andAnd it came toabout passwhen aboutit thewas time ofto theshut shutting of the gate, whenat it was dark, that the men went out; whitherI thedo mennot wentknow Iwhere knowthe not:men pursuewent. afterPursue them quickly;, for yeyou will overtake them. |
| 2:6 |
But she had brought them up to the roof, and hidhidden them within the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order uponon the roof. |
| 2:7 |
AndSo the men pursued after them on the wayroad to the Jordan untoto the fords:; and as soon as theythose thatwho pursuedwere afterpursuing them werehad gone out, they shut the gate. |
| 2:8 |
AndNow before they werelay laid down, she came up untoto them uponon the roof;, |
| 2:9 |
and she said untoto the men, I know that Jehovahthe hathLord has given you the land, and that the fearterror of you ishas fallen uponon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melthave melted away before you. |
| 2:10 |
For we have heard how Jehovahthe Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea before you, when yeyou came out of Egypt;, and what yeyou did untoto the two kings of the Amorites, thatwho were beyond the Jordan, untoto Sihon and to Og, whom yeyou utterly destroyed. |
| 2:11 |
And aswhen soon as we had heard it, our hearts didmelted melt, and neitherno didcourage thereremained remainin any moreman spirit in any man, longer because of you:; for Jehovahthe Lord your God, heHe is God in heaven above, and on earth beneath. |
| 2:12 |
Now therefore, Iplease pray you, swear untoto me by Jehovahthe Lord, since I have dealt kindly with you, that yeyou also will deal kindly with my fathers househousehold, and give me a truepledge token;of truth, |
| 2:13 |
and thatspare ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, brothers and my sisters, andwith all thatwho theybelong haveto them, and will deliver our lives from death. |
| 2:14 |
AndSo the men said untoto her, Our life for yours, if yeyou utterdo not tell this ourbusiness businessof ours; and it shall be,come about when Jehovahthe givethLord gives us the land, that we will deal kindly and trulyfaithfully with theeyou. |
| 2:15 |
Then she let them down by a cordrope through the window:, for her house was uponon the sidecity of the wall, andso that she dweltwas uponliving on the wall. |
| 2:16 |
And she said untoto them, GetGo you to the mountainhill country, lest the pursuers lighthappen upon you;, and hide yourselves there for three days, until the pursuers bereturn. returned:Then and afterward you may ye go on your way. |
| 2:17 |
And the men said untoto her, We willshall be guiltlessfree offrom this thine oath to you which thouyou hasthave made us to swear., |
| 2:18 |
Beholdunless, when we come into the land, thouyou shalttie bind this linecord of scarlet thread in the window through which thouyou didst let us down, by: and thou shalt gather untoto theeyourself into the house thyyour father, and thyyour mother, and thyyour brethren, brothers and all thyyour fathers household. |
| 2:19 |
And it shall be,come about that whosoeveranyone shallwho gogoes out of the doors of thyyour house into the street, his blood shall be uponon his own head, and we shall be guiltless:free; andbut whosoeveranyone shallwho beis with theeyou in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if anya hand beis uponlaid on him. |
| 2:20 |
But if thouyou uttertell this ourbusiness businessof ours, then we shall be guiltlessfree offrom thinethe oath which thouyou hasthave made us to swear. |
| 2:21 |
And she said, According untoto your words, so be it. AndSo she sent them away, and they departed:; and she boundtied the scarlet linecord in the window. |
| 2:22 |
And they went, departed and came untoto the mountainhill country, and aboderemained there for three days, until the pursuers were returned:. andNow the pursuers had sought them throughout all along the wayroad, but had not found them not. |
| 2:23 |
Then the two men returned, and descendedcame down from the mountain, hill country and passedcrossed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun;, and they toldrelated to him all that had befallenhappened to them. |
| 2:24 |
And they said untoto Joshua, TrulySurely Jehovahthe hathLord deliveredhas intogiven our hands all the land; into our hands, and moreover all the inhabitants of the land, domoreover, melthave melted away before us. |
| 3:1 |
AndThen Joshua rose up early in the morning; and theyhe removedand all the sons of Israel set out from Shittim, and came to the Jordan, he and all the children of Israel; and they lodged there before they passed overcrossed. |
| 3:2 |
And it came toabout passat afterthe end of three days, that the officers went through the midst of the camp; |
| 3:3 |
and they commanded the people, saying, When yeyou see the ark of the covenant of Jehovahthe Lord your God, andwith the Levitical priests thecarrying Levites bearing it, then yeyou shall removeset out from your place, and go after it. |
| 3:4 |
YetHowever, there shall be a space between you and it, a distance of about two2,000 thousand cubits by measure:. comeDo not come near unto it, that yeyou may know the way by which yeyou mustshall go;, for yeyou have not passed this way heretoforebefore. |
| 3:5 |
AndThen Joshua said untoto the people, SanctifyConsecrate yourselves;, for totomorrow morrowthe JehovahLord will do wonders among you. |
| 3:6 |
And Joshua spakespoke untoto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and passcross over beforeahead of the people. AndSo they took up the ark of the covenant, and went beforeahead of the people. |
| 3:7 |
AndNow Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Joshua, This day I will I begin to magnifyexalt theeyou in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, just as I washave been with Moses, so I will be with theeyou. |
| 3:8 |
AndYou thoushall, shaltmoreover, command the priests thatwho bearare carrying the ark of the covenant, saying, When yeyou are come to the brinkedge of the waters of the Jordan, yeyou shall stand still in the Jordan. |
| 3:9 |
AndThen Joshua said untoto the childrensons of Israel, Come hitherhere, and hear the words of Jehovahthe Lord your God. |
| 3:10 |
And Joshua said, HerebyBy yethis you shall know that the living God is among you, and that heHe will withoutassuredly faildispossess drive out from before you the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Hivite, and the Perizzite, and the Girgashite, and the Amorite, and the Jebusite. |
| 3:11 |
Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passethis crossing over beforeahead of you into the Jordan. |
| 3:12 |
Now thereforethen, take youfor yourselves twelve men outfrom of the tribes of Israel, one man for everyeach tribe a man. |
| 3:13 |
And it shall come toabout pass, when the soles of the feet of the priests thatwho bearcarry the ark of Jehovahthe Lord, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, evenand the waters thatwhich comeare flowing down from above; and they shall stand in one heap. |
| 3:14 |
AndSo it came toabout pass, when the people removedset out from their tents, to passcross over the Jordan, with the priests thatcarrying bare the ark of the covenant being before the people;, |
| 3:15 |
and when theythose thatwho barecarried the ark werecame comeinto unto the Jordan, and the feet of the priests thatcarrying bare the ark were dipped in the brinkedge of the water for the Jordan overflowethoverflows all its banks all the timedays of harvest, |
| 3:16 |
that the waters which camewere flowing down from above stood, and rose up in one heap, a great waydistance off, away at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan; and those thatwhich wentwere flowing down toward the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, were whollycompletely cut off:. andSo the people passedcrossed overopposite right against Jericho. |
| 3:17 |
And the priests thatwho barecarried the ark of the covenant of Jehovahthe Lord stood firm on dry ground in the midstmiddle of the Jordan; andwhile all Israel passedcrossed over on dry ground, until all the nation werehad passedfinished cleancrossing over the Jordan. |
| 4:1 |
AndNow it came toabout pass, when all the nation werehad cleanfinished passedcrossing over the Jordan, that Jehovahthe spakeLord untospoke to Joshua, saying, |
| 4:2 |
Take youfor yourselves twelve men outfrom of the people, outone ofman everyfrom each tribe a man, |
| 4:3 |
and command ye them, saying, Take youup hencefor yourselves twelve stones from here out of the midstmiddle of the Jordan, outfrom of the place where the priests feet stoodare standing firm, twelve stones, and carry them over with you, and lay them down in the lodging place, where yeyou shallwill lodge this nighttonight. |
| 4:4 |
ThenSo Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had preparedappointed offrom the childrensons of Israel, outone ofman everyfrom each tribe a man:; |
| 4:5 |
and Joshua said untoto them, PassCross overagain beforeto the ark of Jehovahthe Lord your God into the midstmiddle of the Jordan, and takeeach of you take up every man of you a stone uponon his shoulder, according untoto the number of the tribes of the childrensons of Israel;. |
| 4:6 |
thatLet this may be a sign among you, so that, when your children ask in time to comelater, saying, What meando yethese bystones thesemean stonesto you? |
| 4:7 |
then yeyou shall say untoto them, Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of Jehovahthe Lord; when it passedcrossed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off:. andSo these stones shall bebecome for a memorial untoto the childrensons of Israel for everforever. |
| 4:8 |
And thus the childrensons of Israel did, so as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones outfrom of the midstmiddle of the Jordan, just as Jehovahthe spakeLord untospoke to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the childrensons of Israel; and they carried them over with them untoto the lodging place where they lodged, and laidput them down there. |
| 4:9 |
AndThen Joshua set up twelve stones in the midstmiddle of the Jordan, inat the place where the feet of the priests thatwho barecarried the ark of the covenant stood:were standing, and they are there untoto this day. |
| 4:10 |
For the priests thatwho barecarried the ark stoodwere standing in the midstmiddle of the Jordan, until everything was finishedcompleted that Jehovahthe Lord had commanded Joshua to speak untoto the people, according to all that Moses had commanded Joshua:. andAnd the people hastedhurried and passed over.crossed; |
| 4:11 |
Andand it came toabout pass, when all the people werehad cleanfinished passed overcrossing, that the ark of Jehovahthe passedLord over, and the priests, incrossed thebefore presence of the people. |
| 4:12 |
And the childrensons of Reuben, and the childrensons of Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh, passedcrossed over armedin battle array before the childrensons of Israel, just as Moses spakehad untospoken to them:; |
| 4:13 |
about forty40,000, thousandequipped ready armed for war, passedcrossed overfor battle before Jehovahthe untoLord battle, to the desert plains of Jericho. |
| 4:14 |
On that day Jehovahthe magnifiedLord exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel; andso that they fearedrevered him, just as they fearedhad revered Moses, all the days of his life. |
| 4:15 |
AndNow Jehovahthe spakeLord untosaid to Joshua, saying, |
| 4:16 |
Command the priests thatwho bearcarry the ark of the testimony, that they come up outfrom of the Jordan. |
| 4:17 |
So Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, Come ye up outfrom of the Jordan. |
| 4:18 |
And it came toabout pass, when the priests thatwho barecarried the ark of the covenant of Jehovahthe wereLord had come up outfrom of the midstmiddle of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests feet were lifted up untoto the dry ground, that the waters of the Jordan returned untoto their place, and went over all its banks, as aforetimebefore. |
| 4:19 |
AndNow the people came up outfrom of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encampedcamped inat Gilgal, on the easteastern borderedge of Jericho. |
| 4:20 |
And those twelve stones, which they tookhad outtaken offrom the Jordan, did Joshua set up inat Gilgal. |
| 4:21 |
And he spakesaid untoto the childrensons of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What meanare these stones? |
| 4:22 |
then yeyou shall letinform your children know, saying, Israel camecrossed over this Jordan on dry landground. |
| 4:23 |
For Jehovahthe Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you, until yeyou werehad passed overcrossed, just as Jehovahthe Lord your God didhad done to the Red Sea, which heHe dried up from before us, until we werehad passed overcrossed; |
| 4:24 |
that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of Jehovah, the thatLord it is mighty;, so that yeyou may fear Jehovahthe Lord your God for everforever. |
| 5:1 |
AndNow it came toabout pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, thatwho were beyond the Jordan westwardto the west, and all the kings of the Canaanites, thatwho were by the sea, heard how thatthe JehovahLord had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the childrensons of Israel, until wethey werehad passed overcrossed, that their hearthearts melted, neitherand there was thereno spirit in them any morelonger, because of the childrensons of Israel. |
| 5:2 |
At that time Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Joshua, Make theefor knivesyourself of flint, knives and circumcise again the childrensons of Israel the second time. |
| 5:3 |
AndSo Joshua made himhimself flint knives of flint, and circumcised the childrensons of Israel at theGibeath hill of the foreskinshaaraloth. |
| 5:4 |
And this is the causereason why Joshua didcircumcised circumcisethem: all the people thatwho came forth out of Egypt, thatwho were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness byalong the way, after they came forth out of Egypt. |
| 5:5 |
For all the people thatwho came out were circumcised;, but all the people thatwho were born in the wilderness byalong the way as they came forth out of Egypt, they had not been circumcised. |
| 5:6 |
For the childrensons of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, tilluntil all the nation, eventhat is, the men of war thatwho came forth out of Egypt, wereperished consumed, because they hearkeneddid not untolisten to the voice of Jehovah:the untoLord, to whom Jehovahthe swareLord had sworn that heHe would not let them see the land which Jehovahthe swareLord untohad sworn to their fathers thatto he would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey. |
| 5:7 |
And their children, whom heHe raised up in their steadplace, them did Joshua circumcise:circumcised; for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them byalong the way. |
| 5:8 |
AndNow it came toabout pass, when they had donefinished circumcising all the nation, that they aboderemained in their places in the camp, tilluntil they were wholehealed. |
| 5:9 |
AndThen Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Joshua, ThisToday dayI have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. WhereforeSo the name of that place wasis called Gilgal, untoto this day. |
| 5:10 |
AndWhile the childrensons of Israel encampedcamped inat Gilgal;, and they keptobserved the passoverPassover on the evening of the fourteenth day of the month aton eventhe indesert the plains of Jericho. |
| 5:11 |
And theyon didthe eatday ofafter the producePassover, ofon thethat landvery onday, they ate some of the morrowproduce afterof the passoverland, unleavened cakes and parched grain, in the selfsame day. |
| 5:12 |
And the manna ceased on the morrow, day after they had eaten some of the produce of the land;, neitherso hadthat the childrensons of Israel mannano anylonger more;had manna, but they didate eatsome of the fruityield of the land of Canaan during that year. |
| 5:13 |
AndNow it came toabout pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man overwas againststanding opposite him with his sword drawn in his hand:, and Joshua went untoto him, and said untoto him, ArtAre thouyou for us, or for our adversaries? |
| 5:14 |
And he said, Nay;No, butrather I indeed come now as princecaptain of the host of Jehovahthe am I now comeLord. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and didbowed worshipdown, and said untoto him, What saithhas my Lord untoto say to his servant? |
| 5:15 |
And the princecaptain of Jehovahsthe Lords host said untoto Joshua, PutRemove offyour thysandals shoe from offyour thyfeet, foot; for the place whereonwhere thouyou standestare standing is holy. And Joshua did so. |
| 6:1 |
Now Jericho was straitlytightly shut up because of the childrensons of Israel:; noneno one went out, and noneno one came in. |
| 6:2 |
And Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Joshua, See, I have given Jericho into thyyour hand Jericho, andwith theits king thereof, and the mightyvaliant men of valorwarriors. |
| 6:3 |
And yeyou shall compassmarch around the city, all the men of war, goingcircling about the city once. ThusYou shaltshall thou do so for six days. |
| 6:4 |
AndAlso seven priests shall bearcarry seven trumpets of rams horns before the ark:; andthen on the seventh day yeyou shall compassmarch around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. |
| 6:5 |
And it shall be, that, when they make a long blast with the rams horn, and when yeyou hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shallwill fall down flat, and the people shallwill go up every man straight before himahead. |
| 6:6 |
AndSo Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said untoto them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bearcarry seven trumpets of rams horns before the ark of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 6:7 |
AndThen theyhe said untoto the people, PassGo onforward, and compassmarch around the city, and let the armed men passgo on before the ark of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 6:8 |
And it was so, that, when Joshua had spoken untoto the people, the seven priests bearingcarrying the seven trumpets of rams horns before Jehovahthe passedLord on,went forward and blew the trumpets:; and the ark of the covenant of Jehovahthe Lord followed them. |
| 6:9 |
And the armed men went before the priests thatwho blew the trumpets, and the rearwardrear wentguard came after the ark, thewhile prieststhey blowingcontinued to blow the trumpets as they went. |
| 6:10 |
AndBut Joshua commanded the people, saying, YeYou shall not shout, nor let your voice be heard, neithernor shalllet anya word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bidtell you, shout;Shout! thenThen you shall ye shout.! |
| 6:11 |
So he causedhad the ark of Jehovahthe toLord compasstaken around the city, goingcircling about it once:; andthen they came into the camp, and lodgedspent the night in the camp. |
| 6:12 |
AndNow Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 6:13 |
And the seven priests bearingcarrying the seven trumpets of rams horns before the ark of Jehovahthe Lord went on continually, and blew the trumpets:; and the armed men went before them;, and the rearwardrear guard came after the ark of Jehovahthe Lord, thewhile prieststhey blowingcontinued to blow the trumpets as they went. |
| 6:14 |
AndThus the second day they compassedmarched around the city once, and returned intoto the camp:; so they did so for six days. |
| 6:15 |
AndThen it came toabout pass on the seventh day, that they rose early at the dawning of the day, and compassedmarched around the city afterin the same manner seven times:; only on that day they compassedmarched around the city seven times. |
| 6:16 |
And it came toabout pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew the trumpets, Joshua said untoto the people, Shout;! forFor Jehovahthe hathLord has given you the city. |
| 6:17 |
And the city shall be devotedunder the ban, even it and all that is therein,in it belongs to Jehovah:the Lord; only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all thatwho are with her in the house shall live, because she hid the messengers thatwhom we sent. |
| 6:18 |
But as for you, only keep yourselves from the devotedthings thingunder the ban, lest whenyou yecovet havethem devotedand it,take yesome take of the devotedthings thing;under the ban, so you would ye make the camp of Israel accursed, and bring trouble on it. |
| 6:19 |
But all the silver, and gold, and vesselsarticles of brassbronze and iron, are holy untoto Jehovah:the Lord; they shall comego into the treasury of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 6:20 |
So the people shouted, and the priests blew the trumpets:; and it came to passabout, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, that the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before himahead, and they took the city. |
| 6:21 |
And they utterly destroyed alleverything that was in the city, both man and woman, both young and old, and ox, and sheep, and assdonkey, with the edge of the sword. |
| 6:22 |
And Joshua said untoto the two men thatwho had spied out the land, Go into the harlots house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hathhas out of there, as yeyou swarehave untosworn to her. |
| 6:23 |
AndSo the young men thewho were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, brothers and all that she had; allthey her kindred also they brought out; all her relatives, and theyplaced set them withoutoutside the camp of Israel. |
| 6:24 |
And they burntburned the city with fire, and all that was therein;in onlyit. Only the silver, and the gold, and thearticles vessels of brassbronze and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 6:25 |
ButHowever, Rahab the harlot, and her fathers household, and all that she had, did Joshua save alivespared; and she dwelthas lived in the midst of Israel untoto this day, becausefor she hid the messengers, whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho. |
| 6:26 |
AndThen Joshua chargedmade them withtake an oath at that time, saying, Cursed bebefore the manLord beforeis Jehovah, the thatman risethwho rises up and buildethbuilds this city Jericho:; with the loss of his first born he shall he lay theits foundation thereof, and with the loss of his youngest son he shall he set up theits gates of it. |
| 6:27 |
So Jehovahthe Lord was with Joshua;, and his fame was in all the land. |
| 7:1 |
But the childrensons of Israel committedacted aunfaithfully trespass in regard to the devotedthings thing;under the ban, for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, offrom the tribe of Judah, took some of the devotedthings thing:under andthe ban, therefore the anger of Jehovahthe wasLord kindledburned against the childrensons of Israel. |
| 7:2 |
AndNow Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is besidenear Beth aven, on the east side of Beth elBethel, and spakesaid untoto them, saying, Go up and spy out the land. AndSo the men went up and spied out Ai. |
| 7:3 |
And they returned to Joshua, and said untoto him, LetDo not let all the people go up; butonly let about two or three thousand men need go up andto smite Ai; makedo not make all the people to toil thither;up there, for they are but few. |
| 7:4 |
So thereabout wentthree upthousand thithermen offrom the people aboutwent threeup thousandthere, men:but and they fled beforefrom the men of Ai. |
| 7:5 |
And the men of Ai smotestruck ofdown them about thirty and six of their men;, and theypursued chased them from before the gate evenas untofar as Shebarim, and smotestruck them atdown on the descent:, andso the hearts of the people melted, and became as water. |
| 7:6 |
AndThen Joshua renttore his clothes, and fell to the earth uponon his face before the ark of Jehovahthe Lord until the evening, both he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust uponon their heads. |
| 7:7 |
And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord JehovahGod, whereforewhy hastdidst thouThou atever allbring brought this people over the Jordan, only to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to causedestroy us to perish? wouldIf thatonly we had been contentwilling andto dweltdwell beyond the Jordan! |
| 7:8 |
Oh,O Lord, what shallcan I say, aftersince that Israel hathhas turned their backsback before their enemies!? |
| 7:9 |
For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, and they will compasssurround us round, and cut off our name from the earth:. andAnd what wilt thouThou do for thyThy great name? |
| 7:10 |
AndSo Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Joshua, GetRise thee up;! whereforeWhy artis thouit thusthat you have fallen uponon thyyour face? |
| 7:11 |
Israel hathhas sinned; yea, and they have evenalso transgressed myMy covenant which I commanded them:. yea,And they have even taken some of the devotedthings thing, under the ban and have alsoboth stolen, and dissembleddeceived. also; Moreover, and they have evenalso put itthem among their own stuffthings. |
| 7:12 |
Therefore the childrensons of Israel cannot stand before their enemies; they turn their backs before their enemies, becausefor they arehave become accursed:. I will not be with you anyanymore more, unless exceptyou ye destroy the devotedthings thingunder the ban from amongyour youmidst. |
| 7:13 |
Up,Rise sanctifyup! Consecrate the people, and say, SanctifyConsecrate yourselves againstfor totomorrow, morrow: for thus saiththe JehovahLord, the God of Israel, has said, There isare athings devotedunder thingthe ban in theyour midst of thee, O Israel;. thouYou canstcannot not stand before thineyour enemies, until yeyou takehave awayremoved the devotedthings thingunder the ban from amongyour youmidst. |
| 7:14 |
In the morning thereforethen yeyou shall become brought near by your tribes:. andAnd it shall be, that the tribe which Jehovahthe takethLord takes by lot shall come near by families;, and the family which Jehovahthe shallLord taketakes shall come near by households;, and the household which Jehovahthe shallLord taketakes shall come near man by man. |
| 7:15 |
And it shall be, that hethe thatone who is taken with the devotedthings thingunder the ban shall be burntburned with fire, he and all that hebelongs hath;to him, because he hathhas transgressed the covenant of Jehovahthe Lord, and because he hathhas wroughtcommitted follya disgraceful thing in Israel. |
| 7:16 |
So Joshua rosearose up early in the morning, and brought Israel near by their tribes;, and the tribe of Judah was taken:. |
| 7:17 |
andAnd he brought near the family of Judah; near, and he took the family of the Zerahites:; and he brought near the family of the Zerahites near man by man;, and Zabdi was taken:. |
| 7:18 |
andAnd he brought near his household near man by man; and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, offrom the tribe of Judah, was taken. |
| 7:19 |
AndThen Joshua said untoto Achan, My son, give, I prayimplore theeyou, give glory to Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel, and makegive confessionpraise untoto himHim; and tell me now what thouyou hasthave done;. Do not hide it not from me. |
| 7:20 |
AndSo Achan answered Joshua, and said, OfTruly, a truth I have sinned against Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel, and thusthis andis thuswhat have I donedid: |
| 7:21 |
when I saw among the spoil a goodlybeautiful Babylonish mantle, from Shinar and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedgebar of gold of fifty shekels in weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hidconcealed in the earth ininside the midst of my tent, andwith the silver underunderneath it. |
| 7:22 |
So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran untoto the tent; and, behold, it was hidconcealed in his tent, andwith the silver underunderneath it. |
| 7:23 |
And they took them from theinside midst of the tent, and brought them untoto Joshua, and untoto all the childrensons of Israel;, and they laidpoured them downout before Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 7:24 |
AndThen Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the mantle, and the wedgebar of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his assesdonkeys, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that hebelonged had:to him; and they brought them up untoto the valley of Achor. |
| 7:25 |
And Joshua said, Why hasthave thouyou troubled us? JehovahThe shallLord will trouble theeyou this day. And all Israel stoned himthem with stones; and they burned them with fire, andafter they had stoned them with stones. |
| 7:26 |
And they raised over him a great heap of stones, untothat stands to this day;, and Jehovahthe Lord turned from the fierceness of hisHis anger. WhereforeTherefore the name of that place washas been called, Thethe valley of Achor, untoto this day. |
| 8:1 |
AndNow Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Joshua, FearDo not, neitherfear or be thou dismayed:. takeTake all the people of war with thee, you and arise, go up to Ai; see, I have given into thyyour hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land;. |
| 8:2 |
andAnd thouyou shaltshall do to Ai and herits king just as thouyou didstdid untoto Jericho and herits king:; you shall take only theits spoil thereof, and theits cattle thereof,as shallplunder ye take for a prey unto yourselves:. setSet thee an ambush for the city behind it. |
| 8:3 |
So Joshua arose, rose andwith all the people of war, to go up to Ai:; and Joshua chose out30,000 thirty thousand men, thevaliant mighty men of valorwarriors, and sent them forthout byat night. |
| 8:4 |
And he commanded them, saying, BeholdSee, yeyou shallare liegoing into ambush against the city, from behind theit. city;Do not go not very far from the city, but beall yeof allyou be ready:. |
| 8:5 |
andThen I, and all the people thatwho are with me, will approach unto the city. And it shallwill come toabout pass, when they come out againstto meet us, as at the first, that we will flee before them;. |
| 8:6 |
andAnd they will come out after us, tilluntil we have drawn them away from the city;, for they will say, They fleeare fleeing before us, as at the first:. soSo we will flee before them;. |
| 8:7 |
andAnd yeyou shall rise up from theyour ambush, and take possession of the city:, for Jehovahthe Lord your God will deliver it into your hand. |
| 8:8 |
AndThen it shallwill be, when yeyou have seized upon the city, that yeyou shall set the city on fire;. You shall do it according to the word of Jehovahthe shallLord. ye do: seeSee, I have commanded you. |
| 8:9 |
AndSo Joshua sent them forth;away, and they went to the ambushment, place of ambush and aboderemained between BethBethel el and Ai, on the west side of Ai:; but Joshua lodgedspent that night among the people. |
| 8:10 |
AndNow Joshua aroserose up early in the morning, and mustered the people, and he went up, hewith and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai. |
| 8:11 |
AndThen all the people, even the men of war thatwho were with him, went up, and drew nigh, near and camearrived beforein front of the city, and encampedcamped on the north side of Ai:. nowNow there was a valley between him and Ai. |
| 8:12 |
And he took about five5,000 thousand men, and set them in ambush between BethBethel el and Ai, on the west side of the city. |
| 8:13 |
So they setstationed the people, even all the hostarmy that was on the north side of the city, and theirits liersrear inguard wait that were on the west side of the city;, and Joshua wentspent that night intoin the midst of the valley. |
| 8:14 |
And it came toabout pass, when the king of Ai saw it, that theythe hastedmen of the city hurried and rose up early, and the men of the city went out againstto meet Israel toin battle, he and all his people, at the time appointed, place before the Arabah;desert butplain. But he knewdid not know that there was an ambush against him behind the city. |
| 8:15 |
And Joshua and all Israel madepretended asto ifbe they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness. |
| 8:16 |
And all the people thatwho were in the city were called together to pursue after them:, and they pursued after Joshua, and were drawn away from the city. |
| 8:17 |
AndSo there was not a man was left in Ai or BethBethel el,who thathad went not gone out after Israel:, and they left the city open, unguarded and pursued after Israel. |
| 8:18 |
AndThen Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Joshua, Stretch out the javelin that is in thyyour hand toward Ai;, for I will give it into thyyour hand. AndSo Joshua stretched out the javelin that was in his hand toward the city. |
| 8:19 |
And the men in ambush aroserose quickly outfrom of their place, and theywhen ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand, they ran and entered into the city, and tookcaptured it; and they hastedquickly and set the city on fire. |
| 8:20 |
AndWhen when the men of Ai lookedturned behindback them, and they sawlooked, and, behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaventhe sky, and they had no powerplace to flee this way or that, way:for and the people thatwho fledhad been fleeing to the wilderness turned backagainst upon the pursuers. |
| 8:21 |
AndWhen when Joshua and all Israel saw that the men in ambush had takencaptured the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned again, back and slew the men of Ai. |
| 8:22 |
And the others came forth out offrom the city againstto encounter them;, so that they were trapped in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side:; and they smoteslew them, sountil thatno theyone letwas noneleft of themthose remainwho survived or escapeescaped. |
| 8:23 |
AndBut they took alive the king of Ai they took alive, and brought him to Joshua. |
| 8:24 |
AndNow it came toabout pass, when Israel had madefinished ankilling end of slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness whereinwhere they pursued them, and theyall of them were all fallen by the edge of the sword, until they were consumeddestroyed, thatthen all Israel returned untoto Ai, and smotestruck it with the edge of the sword. |
| 8:25 |
And all thatwho fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand12,000 even all the menpeople of Ai. |
| 8:26 |
For Joshua drewdid not backwithdraw his hand, wherewithwith which he stretched out the javelin, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai. |
| 8:27 |
OnlyIsrael took only the cattle and the spoil of that city Israelas tookplunder for prey unto themselves, according untoto the word of Jehovahthe Lord which heHe had commanded Joshua. |
| 8:28 |
So Joshua burntburned Ai, and made it a heap for everforever, even a desolation, untountil this day. |
| 8:29 |
And he hanged the king of Ai he hanged on a tree until theevening; eventide: and at thesunset goingJoshua downgave ofcommand the sun Joshua commanded, and they took his body down from the tree, and castthrew it at the entrance of the city gate of the city, and raised thereonover it a great heap of stones, untothat stands to this day. |
| 8:30 |
Then Joshua built an altar untoto Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel, in mountMount Ebal, |
| 8:31 |
just as Moses the servant of Jehovahthe Lord had commanded the childrensons of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of unhewnuncut stones, uponon which no man had liftedwielded upan any iron: tool; and they offered thereon burnt offerings untoon Jehovahit to the Lord, and sacrificed peace offerings. |
| 8:32 |
And he wrote there uponon the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrotehad written, in the presence of the childrensons of Israel. |
| 8:33 |
And all Israel, andwith their elders and officers, and their judges, stoodwere standing on thisboth sidesides of the ark and on that side before the Levitical priests thewho Levites, carried that bare the ark of the covenant of Jehovahthe Lord, the stranger as well the sojourner as the homenative. born;Half half of them stood in front of mountMount Gerizim, and half of them in front of mountMount Ebal;, just as Moses the servant of Jehovahthe Lord had commandedgiven command at the first, thatto they should bless the people of Israel. |
| 8:34 |
AndThen afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, according to all that is written in the book of the law. |
| 8:35 |
There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded, which Joshua readdid not read before all the assembly of Israel, andwith the women, and the little ones, and the sojournersstrangers thatwho were living among them. |
| 9:1 |
AndNow it came toabout pass, when all the kings thatwho were beyond the Jordan, in the hill country, and in the lowland, and on all the shorecoast of the greatGreat seaSea intoward front of Lebanon, the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, heard thereof;of it, |
| 9:2 |
that they gathered themselves together, with one accord to fight with Joshua and with Israel, with one accord. |
| 9:3 |
ButWhen when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done untoto Jericho and to Ai, |
| 9:4 |
they also didacted workcraftily wilily, and wentset andout made as if they had been ambassadorsenvoys, and took oldworn out sacks uponon their assesdonkeys, and wine skinswineskins, oldworn out and renttorn and bound upmended, |
| 9:5 |
and oldworn out and patched shoessandals uponon their feet, and oldworn garmentsout uponclothes themon themselves; and all the bread of their provision was dry and washad become mouldycrumbled. |
| 9:6 |
And they went to Joshua untoto the camp at Gilgal, and said untoto him, and to the men of Israel, We arehave come from a far country:; now therefore, make ye a covenant with us. |
| 9:7 |
And the men of Israel said untoto the Hivites, PeradventurePerhaps yeyou dwellare amongliving uswithin our land; and how then shall we make a covenant with you? |
| 9:8 |
AndBut they said untoto Joshua, We are thyyour servants. AndThen Joshua said untoto them, Who are ye?you, and fromwhere whencedo you come yefrom? |
| 9:9 |
And they said untoto him, FromYour servants have come from a very far country thy servants are come because of the namefame of Jehovahthe thyLord your God:; for we have heard the famereport of him,Him and all that heHe did in Egypt, |
| 9:10 |
and all that heHe did to the two kings of the Amorites, thatwho were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, who was at Ashtaroth. |
| 9:11 |
AndSo our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spakespoke to us, saying, Take provisionprovisions in your hand for the journey, and go to meet them, and say untoto them, We are your servants:; and now then, make ye a covenant with us. |
| 9:12 |
This our bread was warm when we took hotit for our provisionprovisions out of our houses on the day that we cameleft forth to gocome untoto you; but now, behold, it is dry, and ishas become mouldy:crumbled. |
| 9:13 |
andAnd these winewineskins skins, which we filled, were new;, and, behold, they are rent:torn; and these our garmentsclothes and our shoessandals are becomeworn oldout bybecause reason of the very long journey. |
| 9:14 |
AndSo the men of Israel took some of their provisionprovisions, and askeddid not counselask atfor the mouthcounsel of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 9:15 |
And Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them, to let them live:; and the princesleaders of the congregation swareswore untoan oath to them. |
| 9:16 |
And it came toabout pass at the end of three days after they had made a covenant with them, that they heard that they were their neighbors, and that they dweltwere amongliving themwithin their land. |
| 9:17 |
AndThen the childrensons of Israel journeyed, set out and came untoto their cities on the third day. Now their cities were Gibeon, and Chephirah, and Beeroth, and Kiriath jearim. |
| 9:18 |
And the childrensons of Israel smotedid not strike them not, because the princesleaders of the congregation had sworn untoto them by Jehovah, the Lord the God of Israel. And all the whole congregation murmuredgrumbled against the princesleaders. |
| 9:19 |
But all the princesleaders said untoto all the whole congregation, We have sworn untoto them by Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel:, and now therefore we maycannot not touch them. |
| 9:20 |
This we will do to them, andeven let them live;, lest wrath be upon us, becausefor of the oath which we swareswore untoto them. |
| 9:21 |
And the princesleaders said untoto them, Let them live:. soSo they became hewers of wood and drawers of water untofor all the whole congregation, just as the princesleaders had spoken untoto them. |
| 9:22 |
AndThen Joshua called for them, and hespoke spaketo unto them, saying, WhereforeWhy have yeyou beguileddeceived us, saying, We are very far from you;, when yeyou dwellare amongliving uswithin our land? |
| 9:23 |
Now therefore, yeyou are cursed, and thereyou shall never failcease tobeing be of you bondmenslaves, both hewers of wood and drawers of water for the house of my God. |
| 9:24 |
AndSo they answered Joshua, and said, Because it was certainly told thyyour servants, how that Jehovahthe thyLord your God had commanded hisHis servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you; therefore we werefeared soregreatly afraid for our lives because of you, and have done this thing. |
| 9:25 |
And now, behold, we are in thyyour hand:hands; do as it seemethseems good and right untoin theeyour sight to do untoto us, do. |
| 9:26 |
AndThus sohe did heto unto them, and delivered them outfrom of the handhands of the childrensons of Israel, thatand they slewdid not kill them not. |
| 9:27 |
AndBut Joshua made them that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the congregation, and for the altar of Jehovahthe Lord, untoto this day, in the place which heHe shouldwould choose. |
| 10:1 |
Now it came toabout pass, when Adoni zedek king of Jerusalem heard howthat Joshua had takencaptured Ai, and had utterly destroyed it just as he had done to Jericho and herits king, so he had done to Ai and herits king, and howthat the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were amongwithin them;their land, |
| 10:2 |
that theyhe feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, aslike one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all theits men thereof were mighty. |
| 10:3 |
WhereforeTherefore Adoni zedek king of Jerusalem sent untoword to Hoham king of Hebron, and untoto Piram king of Jarmuth, and untoto Japhia king of Lachish, and untoto Debir king of Eglon, saying, |
| 10:4 |
Come up untoto me, and help me, and let us smiteattack Gibeon;, for it hathhas made peace with Joshua and with the childrensons of Israel. |
| 10:5 |
ThereforeSo the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they andwith all their hostsarmies, and encampedcamped againstby Gibeon, and madefought war against it. |
| 10:6 |
AndThen the men of Gibeon sent untoword to Joshua to the camp toat Gilgal, saying, SlackDo not thyabandon handyour from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us:, for all the kings of the Amorites that dwelllive in the hill country arehave gatheredassembled together against us. |
| 10:7 |
So Joshua went up from Gilgal, he, and all the people of war with him, and all the mightyvaliant men of valorwarriors. |
| 10:8 |
And Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Joshua, FearDo not fear them, not: for I have deliveredgiven them into thyyour hands; there shall not aone man of them shall stand before theeyou. |
| 10:9 |
So Joshua therefore came upon them suddenly; forby hemarching wentall upnight from Gilgal all the night. |
| 10:10 |
And Jehovahthe discomfitedLord confounded them before Israel, and heHe slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chasedpursued them by the way of the ascent of Beth horon, and smotestruck them toas far as Azekah, and unto Makkedah. |
| 10:11 |
And it came toabout pass, as they fled from before Israel, while they were at the descent of Beth horon, that Jehovahthe castLord downthrew greatlarge stones from heaven uponon them untoas far as Azekah, and they died:; theythere were more who died withfrom the hailstones than theythose whom the childrensons of Israel slewkilled with the sword. |
| 10:12 |
Then spake Joshua spoke to Jehovahthe Lord in the day when Jehovahthe Lord delivered up the Amorites before the childrensons of Israel;, and he said in the sight of Israel, SunO sun, stand thou still uponat Gibeon;, And thou,O Moon, moon in the valley of Aijalon. |
| 10:13 |
AndSo the sun stood still, and the moon stayedstopped, Until the nation had avenged themselves of their enemies. Is it not this written in the book of Jashar? And the sun stayedstopped in the midstmiddle of heaventhe sky, and hasteddid not hasten to go down for about a whole day. |
| 10:14 |
And there was no day like that before it or after it, thatwhen Jehovahthe hearkenedLord untolistened to the voice of a man:; for Jehovahthe Lord fought for Israel. |
| 10:15 |
AndThen Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, untoreturned to the camp to Gilgal. |
| 10:16 |
AndNow these five kings had fled, and hidhidden themselves in the cave at Makkedah. |
| 10:17 |
And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings arehave been found, hidden in the cave at Makkedah. |
| 10:18 |
And Joshua said, Roll greatlarge stones untoagainst the mouth of the cave, and setassign men by it to keepguard them:, |
| 10:19 |
but staydo not yestay there yourselves; pursue after your enemies, and smiteattack them in the hindmostrear. ofDo them;not sufferallow them not to enter into their cities:, for Jehovahthe Lord your God hathhas delivered them into your hand. |
| 10:20 |
And it came toabout pass, when Joshua and the childrensons of Israel had madefinished an end of slaying them with a very great slaughter, tilluntil they were consumeddestroyed, and the remnantsurvivors whichwho remained of them had entered into the fortified cities, |
| 10:21 |
that all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace:. noneNo movedone hisuttered tonguea word against any of the childrensons of Israel. |
| 10:22 |
Then Joshua said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring forththese those five kings untoout to me outfrom of the cave. |
| 10:23 |
And they did so, and brought forththese those five kings untoout to him outfrom of the cave,: the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon. |
| 10:24 |
And it came toabout pass, when they brought forththese those kings untoout to Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said untoto the chiefs of the men of war thatwho wenthad gone with him, Come near, put your feet uponon the necks of these kings. AndSo they came near, and put their feet uponon thetheir necks of them. |
| 10:25 |
And Joshua then said untoto them, FearDo not, norfear or be dismayed;! beBe strong and ofcourageous, good courage: for thus shallthe JehovahLord will do to all your enemies againstwith whom yeyou fight. |
| 10:26 |
AndSo afterward Joshua smotestruck them, and put them to death, and he hanged them on five trees:; and they werehung hangingon upon the trees until the evening. |
| 10:27 |
And it came toabout pass at thesunset time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down offfrom the trees, and castthrew them into the cave whereinwhere they had hidden themselves, and laidput greatlarge stones onover the mouth of the cave, untoto this very day. |
| 10:28 |
AndNow Joshua tookcaptured Makkedah on that day, and smotestruck it and its king with the edge of the sword,; and the king thereof: he utterly destroyed themit and allevery theperson soulswho thatwas werein therein;it. heHe left noneno remaining;survivor. andThus he did to the king of Makkedah just as he had done untoto the king of Jericho. |
| 10:29 |
AndThen Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, untopassed on from Makkedah to Libnah, and fought against Libnah:. |
| 10:30 |
andAnd Jehovahthe deliveredLord gave it also, andwith theits king thereof, into the handhands of Israel;, and he smotestruck it withand theevery edgeperson ofwho thewas sword,in andit allwith the soulsedge thatof werethe therein;sword. heHe left noneno remainingsurvivor in it;. andThus he did untoto theits king thereofjust as he had done untoto the king of Jericho. |
| 10:31 |
And Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, untopassed on from Libnah to Lachish, and encampedthey againstcamped by it, and fought against it:. |
| 10:32 |
andAnd Jehovahthe deliveredLord gave Lachish into the handhands of Israel; and he tookcaptured it on the second day, and smotestruck it withand theevery edgeperson ofwho thewas sword,in andit allwith the soulsedge thatof werethe thereinsword, according to all that he had done to Libnah. |
| 10:33 |
Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish;, and Joshua smotedefeated him and his people, until he had left him noneno remainingsurvivor. |
| 10:34 |
And Joshua passed from Lachish, and all Israel with him, untopassed on from Lachish to Eglon;, and they encampedcamped againstby it, and fought against it;. |
| 10:35 |
andAnd they tookcaptured it on that day, and smotestruck it with the edge of the sword; and allhe theutterly soulsdestroyed that wereday thereinevery heperson utterlywho destroyedwas thatin dayit, according to all that he had done to Lachish. |
| 10:36 |
AndThen Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, untowent up from Eglon to Hebron;, and they fought against it:. |
| 10:37 |
andAnd they tookcaptured it, and smotestruck it withand theits edgeking of the sword, and theall kingits thereof, cities and all the citiespersons thereof, who andwere allin it with the soulsedge thatof werethe therein;sword. heHe left noneno remainingsurvivor, according to all that he had done to Eglon;. butAnd he utterly destroyed it, and allevery theperson soulswho thatwas werein thereinit. |
| 10:38 |
AndThen Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, returned to Debir, and they fought against it:. |
| 10:39 |
andAnd he tookcaptured it, and theits king thereof, and all theits cities, thereof; and they smotestruck them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed allevery theperson soulswho thatwas werein therein;it. heHe left noneno remaining:survivor. Just as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and toits the king, thereof; as he had also done also to Libnah, and toits the king thereof. |
| 10:40 |
SoThus Joshua smotestruck all the land, the hill country, and the South,Negev and the lowland, and the slopes, and all their kings:. heHe left noneno remainingsurvivor, but he utterly destroyed all thatwho breathed, just as Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel, had commanded. |
| 10:41 |
And Joshua smotestruck them from Kadesh barnea even untoas far as Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even untoas far as Gibeon. |
| 10:42 |
And Joshua captured all these kings and their landlands did Joshua take at one time, because Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel, fought for Israel. |
| 10:43 |
AndSo Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, untoreturned to the camp toat Gilgal. |
| 11:1 |
AndThen it came to passabout, when Jabin king of Hazor heard thereofof it, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph, |
| 11:2 |
and to the kings thatwho were onof the north, in the hill country, and in the Arabah south of Chinneroth, and in the lowland, and inon the heights of Dor on the west, |
| 11:3 |
to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the hill country, and the Hivite underat the foot of Hermon in the land of MizpahMizpeh. |
| 11:4 |
And they wentcame out, they and all their hostsarmies with them, muchas many people, even as the sand that is uponon the seaseashore, shorewith invery multitude, many with horses and chariots very many. |
| 11:5 |
AndSo all of these kings methaving together;agreed andto theymeet, came and encamped together at the waters of Merom, to fight withagainst Israel. |
| 11:6 |
AndThen Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Joshua, BeDo not be afraid because of them;, for totomorrow morrow at this time I will I deliver themall upof allthem slain before Israel:; thouyou shaltshall hockhamstring their horses, and burn their chariots with fire. |
| 11:7 |
So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, againstcame upon them suddenly by the waters of Merom suddenly, and fellattacked upon them. |
| 11:8 |
And Jehovahthe Lord delivered them into the hand of Israel, andso that they smotedefeated them, and chasedpursued them untoas greatfar as Great Sidon, and unto Misrephoth maim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastwardto the east; and they smotestruck them, until theyno survivor was left to them none remaining. |
| 11:9 |
And Joshua did untoto them as Jehovahthe badeLord had told him:; he hockedhamstrung their horses, and burntburned their chariots with fire. |
| 11:10 |
AndThen Joshua turned back at that time, and tookcaptured Hazor, and smotestruck theits king thereof with the sword:; for Hazor beforetimeformerly was the head of all thosethese kingdoms. |
| 11:11 |
And they smotestruck allevery theperson soulswho thatwas werein thereinit with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them; there was noneno one left thatwho breathed:. andAnd he burntburned Hazor with fire. |
| 11:12 |
And Joshua captured all the cities of thosethese kings, and all thetheir kings of them, did Joshua take, and he smotestruck them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed them; just as Moses the servant of Jehovahthe Lord had commanded. |
| 11:13 |
ButHowever, asIsrael fordid thenot burn any cities that stood on their mounds, Israelexcept burnedHazor none of themalone, savewhich Hazor only; that did Joshua burnburned. |
| 11:14 |
And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the childrensons of Israel took foras atheir prey unto themselvesplunder; but they struck every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them,. neitherThey left theyno anyone thatwho breathed. |
| 11:15 |
AsJust Jehovahas the Lord had commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses commandcommanded Joshua:, and so Joshua did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that Jehovahthe Lord had commanded Moses. |
| 11:16 |
SoThus Joshua took all that land,: the hill country, and all the SouthNegev, and all thethat land of Goshen, and the lowland, and the Arabah, and the hill country of Israel, and theits lowland of the same; |
| 11:17 |
from mountMount Halak, that goethrises uptoward to Seir, even untoas far as Baal gad in the valley of Lebanon underat mountthe foot of Mount Hermon:. andAnd he captured all their kings he took, and smotestruck them, down and put them to death. |
| 11:18 |
Joshua madewaged war a long time with all thosethese kings. |
| 11:19 |
There was not a city thatwhich made peace with the childrensons of Israel, saveexcept the Hivites theliving inhabitantsin of Gibeon:; they took them all in battle. |
| 11:20 |
For it was of Jehovahthe Lord to harden their hearts, to comemeet against Israel in battle, in order that he might utterly destroy them, that they might havereceive no favormercy, but that he might destroy them, just as Jehovahthe Lord had commanded Moses. |
| 11:21 |
AndThen Joshua came at that time, and cut off the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel:. Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities. |
| 11:22 |
There waswere noneno of the Anakim left in the land of the childrensons of Israel:; only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, did some remainremained. |
| 11:23 |
So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that Jehovahthe spakeLord untohad spoken to Moses;, and Joshua gave it for an inheritance untoto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. AndThus the land had rest from war. |
| 12:1 |
Now these are the kings of the land, whom the childrensons of Israel smotedefeated, and possessedwhose their land they possessed beyond the Jordan toward the sunrisingsunrise, from the valley of the Arnon untoas mountfar as Mount Hermon, and all the Arabah eastwardto the east: |
| 12:2 |
Sihon king of the Amorites, who dweltlived in Heshbon, and ruled from Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, andboth the city that is in the middle of the valley, and half of Gilead, even untoas far as the riverbrook Jabbok, the border of the childrensons of Ammon; |
| 12:3 |
and the Arabah untoas far as the seaSea of Chinneroth, eastwardtoward the east, and untoas far as the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, eastward, thetoward way to Beth jeshimoth;, and on the south, underat the foot of the slopes of Pisgah:; |
| 12:4 |
and the borderterritory of Og king of Bashan, one of the remnant of the Rephaim, who dweltlived at Ashtaroth and at Edrei, |
| 12:5 |
and ruled inover mountMount Hermon, and in Salecah, and in all Bashan, untoas far as the border of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and half of Gilead, as far as the border of Sihon king of Heshbon. |
| 12:6 |
Moses the servant of Jehovahthe Lord and the childrensons of Israel smotedefeated them:; and Moses the servant of Jehovahthe Lord gave it forto a possession unto the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh as a possession. |
| 12:7 |
AndNow these are the kings of the land whom Joshua and the childrensons of Israel smotedefeated beyond the Jordan westwardtoward the west, from Baal gad in the valley of Lebanon even untoas mountfar as Mount Halak, thatwhich goethrises uptoward to Seir; and Joshua gave it untoto the tribes of Israel foras a possession according to their divisions;, |
| 12:8 |
in the hill country, and in the lowland, and in the Arabah, andon in the slopes, and in the wilderness, and in the SouthNegev; the Hittite, the Amorite, and the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite: |
| 12:9 |
the king of Jericho, one; the king of Ai, which is beside Beth elBethel, one; |
| 12:16 |
the king of Makkedah, one; the king of Beth elBethel, one; |
| 12:18 |
the king of Aphek, one; the king of LassharonLasharon, one; |
| 12:23 |
the king of Dor in the heightheights of Dor, one; the king of Goiim in Gilgal, one; |
| 12:24 |
the king of Tirzah, one: in all, the kings thirty andone onekings. |
| 13:1 |
Now Joshua was old and welladvanced stricken in years; andwhen Jehovahthe Lord said untoto him, ThouYou artare old and welladvanced stricken in years, and therevery remainethmuch yetof verythe much land remains to be possessed. |
| 13:2 |
This is the land that yet remainethremains: all the regions of the Philistines, and all those of the Geshurites; |
| 13:3 |
from the Shihor, which is beforeeast of Egypt, even untoas far as the border of Ekron northward,to whichthe north it is reckonedcounted toas the CanaanitesCanaanite; the five Lords of the Philistines;: the GazitesGazite, and the AshdoditesAshdodite, the AshkelonitesAshkelonite, the GittitesGittite, and the EkronitesEkronite; alsoand the Avvim,Avvite |
| 13:4 |
onto the south;, all the land of the CanaanitesCanaanite, and Mearah that belongethbelongs to the Sidonians, untoas far as Aphek, to the border of the AmoritesAmorite; |
| 13:5 |
and the land of the GebalitesGebalite, and all of Lebanon, toward the sunrisingeast, from Baal gad underbelow mountMount Hermon untoas thefar entranceas ofLebo Hamath;hamath. |
| 13:6 |
allAll the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon untoas far as Misrephoth maim, even all the Sidonians;, themI will I drive them out from before the childrensons of Israel:; only allot thou it untoto Israel for an inheritance, as I have commanded theeyou. |
| 13:7 |
Now therefore, divideapportion this land for an inheritance untoto the nine tribes, and the half tribe of Manasseh. |
| 13:8 |
With himthe other half tribe, the Reubenites and the Gadites received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond the Jordan eastwardto the east, evenjust as Moses the servant of Jehovahthe Lord gave to them:; |
| 13:9 |
from Aroer, thatwhich is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, andwith the city thatwhich is in the middle of the valley, and all the plain of Medeba, untoas far as Dibon; |
| 13:10 |
and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, untoas far as the border of the childrensons of Ammon; |
| 13:11 |
and Gilead, and the borderterritory of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and all mountMount Hermon, and all Bashan untoas far as Salecah; |
| 13:12 |
all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei thehe samealone was left of the remnant of the Rephaim; for theseMoses didstruck Mosesthem smite, and drovedispossessed them out. |
| 13:13 |
NeverthelessBut the childrensons of Israel drovedid not outdispossess the Geshurites, noror the Maacathites:; butfor Geshur and Maacath dwelllive inamong the midst of Israel untountil this day. |
| 13:14 |
Only untoto the tribe of Levi he gavedid nonot give an inheritance; the offerings ofby Jehovahfire to the Lord, the God of Israel, made by fire are histheir inheritance, as heHe spakespoke untoto him. |
| 13:15 |
AndSo Moses gave untoan inheritance to the tribe of the childrensons of Reuben according to their families. |
| 13:16 |
And their borderterritory was from Aroer, thatwhich is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, andwith the city thatwhich is in the middle of the valley, and all the plain by Medeba; |
| 13:17 |
Heshbon, and all its cities thatwhich are inon the plain;: Dibon, and Bamoth baal, and Beth baal meon, |
| 13:18 |
and Jahaz, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath, |
| 13:19 |
and Kiriathaim, and Sibmah, and Zereth shahar inon the mounthill of the valley, |
| 13:20 |
and Beth peor, and the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth jeshimoth, |
| 13:21 |
andeven all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smotestruck with the chiefs of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, the princes of Sihon, thatwho dweltlived in the land. |
| 13:22 |
BalaamThe sons of Israel also killed Balaam the son of Beor, the soothsayerdiviner, did the children of Israel slay with the sword among the rest of their slain. |
| 13:23 |
And the border of the childrensons of Reuben was the Jordan, and the border thereof. This was the inheritance of the childrensons of Reuben according to their families, the cities and thetheir villages thereof. |
| 13:24 |
And Moses also gave untoan inheritance to the tribe of Gad, untoto the childrensons of Gad, according to their families. |
| 13:25 |
And their borderterritory was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the childrensons of Ammon, untoas far as Aroer thatwhich is before Rabbah; |
| 13:26 |
and from Heshbon untoas far as Ramath mizpeh, and Betonim;, and from Mahanaim untoas far as the border of Debir; |
| 13:27 |
and in the valley, Beth haram, and Beth nimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, with the Jordan andas thea border thereof, untoas far as the uttermostlower partend of the seaSea of Chinnereth beyond the Jordan eastwardto the east. |
| 13:28 |
This is the inheritance of the childrensons of Gad according to their families, the cities and thetheir villages thereof. |
| 13:29 |
And Moses also gave an inheritance untoto the half tribe of Manasseh:; and it was for the half tribe of the childrensons of Manasseh according to their families. |
| 13:30 |
And their borderterritory was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, threescoresixty cities:; |
| 13:31 |
andalso half of Gilead, andwith Ashtaroth, and Edrei, the cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were for the childrensons of Machir the son of Manasseh, even for the half of the childrensons of Machir according to their families. |
| 13:32 |
These are the inheritancesterritories which Moses distributedapportioned for an inheritance in the plains of Moab, beyond the Jordan at Jericho, eastwardto the east. |
| 13:33 |
But untoto the tribe of Levi, Moses gavedid nonot give an inheritance:; Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, as heHe spakehad untopromised to them. |
| 14:1 |
AndNow these are the inheritancesterritories which the childrensons of Israel tookinherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathershouseholds houses of the tribes of the childrensons of Israel, distributedapportioned untoto them for an inheritance, |
| 14:2 |
by the lot of their inheritance, as Jehovahthe Lord commanded bythrough Moses, for the nine tribes, and for the half tribe. |
| 14:3 |
For Moses had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half tribe beyond the Jordan:; but untohe thedid Levitesnot hegive gavean no inheritance to the Levites among them. |
| 14:4 |
For the childrensons of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim:, and they gavedid nonot give a portion untoto the Levites in the land, saveexcept cities to dwelllive in, with thetheir suburbspasture thereoflands for their cattlelivestock and for their substanceproperty. |
| 14:5 |
AsThus Jehovahthe commandedsons Moses,of soIsrael did just as the childrenLord ofhad Israelcommanded did;Moses, and they divided the land. |
| 14:6 |
Then the childrensons of Judah drew nighnear untoto Joshua in Gilgal:, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said untoto him, ThouYou knowestknow the thingword thatwhich Jehovahthe spakeLord untospoke to Moses the man of God concerning meyou and concerningme thee in Kadesh barnea. |
| 14:7 |
FortyI was forty years old was I when Moses the servant of Jehovahthe Lord sent me from Kadesh barnea to spy out the land;, and I brought him word againback to him as it was in my heart. |
| 14:8 |
Nevertheless my brethren thatwho went up with me made the heart of the people melt with fear; but I wholly followed Jehovahthe Lord my God fully. |
| 14:9 |
AndSo Moses swareswore on that day, saying, Surely the land whereonon thywhich your foot hathhas trodden shall be an inheritance to theeyou and to thyyour children for everforever, because thouyou hasthave wholly followed Jehovahthe Lord my God fully. |
| 14:10 |
And now, behold, Jehovahthe hathLord kepthas let me alivelive, just as heHe spakespoke, these forty and five years, from the time that Jehovahthe spakeLord spoke this word untoto Moses, whilewhen Israel walked in the wilderness:; and now, lobehold, I am thiseighty day fourscore and five years old today. |
| 14:11 |
As yet I am still as strong thistoday day as I was in the day that Moses sent me:; as my strength was then, even so is my strength is now, for war, and tofor gogoing out and tocoming come in. |
| 14:12 |
Now thereforethen, give me this hill country, whereofabout Jehovahwhich spakethe inLord spoke on that day;, for thouyou heardestheard inon that day howthat the Anakim were there, andwith cities great and fortified: itcities; mayperhaps bethe thatLord Jehovah will be with me, and I shall drive them out, as Jehovahthe spakeLord has spoken. |
| 14:13 |
AndSo Joshua blessed him;, and he gave Hebron untoto Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance. |
| 14:14 |
Therefore, Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite untountil this day;, because that he wholly followed Jehovah, the Lord God of Israel fully. |
| 14:15 |
Now the name of Hebron beforetime was formerly Kiriath arba; whichfor Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim. AndThen the land had rest from war. |
| 15:1 |
AndNow the lot for the tribe of the childrensons of Judah according to their families wasreached unto the border of Edom, evensouthward to the wilderness of Zin southward, at the uttermostextreme part of the south. |
| 15:2 |
And their south border was from the uttermostlower partend of the Salt Sea, from the bay that lookethturns southward;to the south. |
| 15:3 |
andThen it wentproceeded out southward ofto the ascent of Akrabbim, and passedcontinued along to Zin, andthen went up by the south of Kadesh barnea, and passedcontinued alongto by Hezron, and went up to Addar, and turned about to Karka;. |
| 15:4 |
andAnd it passedcontinued along to Azmon, and wentproceeded outto at the brook of Egypt; and the goings out of the border wereended at the sea:. thisThis shall be your south border. |
| 15:5 |
And the east border was the Salt Sea, evenas untofar as the endmouth of the Jordan. And the border of the north quarterside was from the bay of the sea at the endmouth of the Jordan;. |
| 15:6 |
andThen the border went up to Beth hoglah, and passedcontinued alongon by the north of Beth arabah;, and the border went up to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben;. |
| 15:7 |
andAnd the border went up to Debir from the valley of Achor, and soturned northward, looking toward Gilgal, thatwhich is overopposite against the ascent of Adummim, which is on the south side of the rivervalley; and the border passedcontinued along to the waters of En shemesh, and theit goingsended out thereof were at En rogel;. |
| 15:8 |
andThen the border went up by the valley of theBen sonhinnom ofto Hinnom unto the sideslope of the Jebusite southwardon the samesouth that is, Jerusalem; and the border went up to the top of the mountain thatwhich liethis before the valley of Hinnom westwardto the west, which is at the uttermostend part of the valevalley of Rephaim northward;toward the north. |
| 15:9 |
andAnd the border extended from the top of the mountain untothe border curved to the fountainspring of the waters of Nephtoah, and wentproceeded out to the cities of mountMount Ephron;, andthen the border extendedcurved to Baalah thethat same is, Kiriath jearim;. |
| 15:10 |
andAnd the border turned about from Baalah westward untoto mountMount Seir, and passedcontinued alongto unto the sideslope of mountMount Jearim on the north thethat same is, Chesalon, and went down to Beth shemesh, and passedcontinued alongthrough by Timnah;. |
| 15:11 |
andAnd the border wentproceeded outto unto the side of Ekron northward;. andThen the border extendedcurved to Shikkeron, and passedcontinued along to mountMount Baalah, and wentproceeded outto at Jabneel;, and the goings out of the border wereended at the sea. |
| 15:12 |
And the west border was toat the greatGreat seaSea, andeven theits border thereofcoastline. This is the border ofaround the childrensons of Judah round about according to their families. |
| 15:13 |
AndNow untohe gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a portion among the childrensons of Judah, according to the commandmentcommand of Jehovahthe Lord to Joshua, evennamely, Kiriath arba, which Arba wasbeing the father of Anak thethat same is, Hebron. |
| 15:14 |
And Caleb drove out thencefrom there the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak. |
| 15:15 |
AndThen he went up thencefrom there against the inhabitants of Debir:; now the name of Debir beforetimeformerly was Kiriath sepher. |
| 15:16 |
And Caleb said, HeThe thatone smitethwho attacks Kiriath sepher, and takethcaptures it, toI him will I give him Achsah my daughter toas a wife. |
| 15:17 |
And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, tookcaptured it:; andso he gave him Achsah his daughter toas a wife. |
| 15:18 |
And it came toabout pass, that when she came untoto him, that she movedpersuaded him to ask of her father for a field:. andSo she alighted from offthe herdonkey, ass; and Caleb said to her, What wouldestdo thouyou want? |
| 15:19 |
AndThen she said, Give me a blessing; forsince thatyou thouhave hastgiven set me in the land of the SouthNegev, give me also springs of water. AndSo he gave her the upper springs and the netherlower springs. |
| 15:20 |
This is the inheritance of the tribe of the childrensons of Judah according to their families. |
| 15:21 |
AndNow the uttermost cities at the extremity of the tribe of the childrensons of Judah toward the border of Edom in the Southsouth were Kabzeel, and Eder, and Jagur, |
| 15:22 |
and Kinah, and Dimonah, and Adadah, |
| 15:23 |
and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Ithnan, |
| 15:24 |
Ziph, and Telem, and Bealoth, |
| 15:25 |
and Hazor hadattah, and Kerioth hezron thethat same is, Hazor, |

| 15:42 |

and Keilah, and Achzib, and Mareshah; nine cities with their villages. |
| 15:46 |
from Ekron even untoto the sea, all that were by the side of Ashdod, with their villages. |
| 15:47 |
Ashdod, its towns and its villages; Gaza, its towns and its villages; untoas far as the brook of Egypt, and the greatGreat seaSea, andeven theits border thereofcoastline. |
| 15:48 |
And in the hill country,: Shamir, and Jattir, and Socoh, |
| 15:49 |
and Dannah, and Kiriath sannah thethat same is, Debir, |
| 15:50 |
and Anab, and Eshtemoh, and Anim, |
| 15:51 |
and Goshen, and Holon, and Giloh; eleven cities with their villages. |
| 15:52 |
Arab, and Dumah, and Eshan, |

| 15:62 |
and Nibshan, and the City of Salt, and En gediEngedi; six cities with their villages. |
| 15:63 |
AndNow as for the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the childrensons of Judah could not drive them out:; butso the Jebusites dwelllive with the childrensons of Judah at Jerusalem untountil this day. |
| 16:1 |
AndThen the lot came out for the childrensons of Joseph went from the Jordan at Jericho, atto the waters of Jericho on the east, eveninto the wilderness, going up from Jericho through the hill country to Beth el;Bethel. |
| 16:2 |
andAnd it went out from BethBethel el to Luz, and passedcontinued alongto unto the border of the Archites toat Ataroth;. |
| 16:3 |
andAnd it went down westward to the borderterritory of the Japhletites, untoas far as the borderterritory of lower Beth horon the nether, even untoto Gezer;, and theit goingsended out thereof were at the sea. |
| 16:4 |
And the childrensons of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, tookreceived their inheritance. |
| 16:5 |
AndNow this was the borderterritory of the childrensons of Ephraim according to their families was thus: the border of their inheritance eastward was Ataroth addar, untoas far as upper Beth horon the upper;. |
| 16:6 |
andThen the border went out westward at Michmethath on the north;, and the border turned about eastward untoto Taanath shiloh, and passedcontinued alongbeyond it onto the east of Janoah;. |
| 16:7 |
andAnd it went down from Janoah to Ataroth, and to Naarah, andthen reached unto Jericho, and wentcame out at the Jordan. |
| 16:8 |
From Tappuah the border wentcontinued along westward to the brook of Kanah;, and theit goingsended out thereof were at the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the childrensons of Ephraim according to their families;, |
| 16:9 |
together with the cities which were set apart for the childrensons of Ephraim in the midst of the inheritance of the childrensons of Manasseh, all the cities with their villages. |
| 16:10 |
AndBut they drovedid not drive out the Canaanites thatwho dweltlived in Gezer:, butso the Canaanites dwelllive in the midst of Ephraim untoto this day, and arethey becomebecame servantsforced to do taskworklaborers. |
| 17:1 |
AndNow this was the lot for the tribe of Manasseh;, for he was the first born of Joseph. AsTo for Machir the firstfirstborn born of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, was allotted Gilead and Bashan, because he was a man of war, therefore he had Gilead and Bashan. |
| 17:2 |
So the lot was made for the rest of the childrensons of Manasseh according to their families: for the childrensons of Abiezer, and for the childrensons of Helek, and for the childrensons of Asriel, and for the childrensons of Shechem, and for the childrensons of Hepher, and for the childrensons of Shemida:; these were the male childrendescendants of Manasseh the son of Joseph according to their families. |
| 17:3 |
ButHowever, Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, butonly daughters:; and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. |
| 17:4 |
And they came near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princesleaders, saying, JehovahThe Lord commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brethren:brothers. thereforeSo according to the commandmentcommand of Jehovahthe Lord he gave them an inheritance among thetheir brethrenfathers of their fatherbrothers. |
| 17:5 |
AndThus there fell ten partsportions to Manasseh, besides the land of Gilead and Bashan, which is beyond the Jordan;, |
| 17:6 |
because the daughters of Manasseh hadreceived an inheritance among his sons. And the land of Gilead belonged untoto the rest of the sons of Manasseh. |
| 17:7 |
And the border of Manasseh wasran from Asher to Michmethath, which iswas beforeeast of Shechem; andthen the border went alongsouthward to the right hand, unto the inhabitants of En tappuah. |
| 17:8 |

AndThen the childrensons of Israel sent untoto the childrensons of Reuben, and to the childrensons of Gad, and to the half tribe of Manasseh, into the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, |
| 22:14 |
and with him ten princeschiefs, one princechief offor aeach fathers househousehold forfrom each of the tribes of Israel; and theyeach were every one of them was the head of theirhis fathers houseshousehold among the thousands of Israel. |
| 22:15 |
And they came untoto the childrensons of Reuben, and to the childrensons of Gad, and to the half tribe of Manasseh, untoto the land of Gilead, and they spakespoke with them, saying, |
| 22:16 |
Thus saithsays the whole congregation of Jehovahthe Lord, What trespass is this thatunfaithful yeact which you have committed against the God of Israel, toturning turn away this day from following Jehovah, the inLord thatthis yeday, haveby buildedbuilding youyourselves an altar, to rebel against the Lord this day against Jehovah? |
| 22:17 |
Is not the iniquity of Peor tooenough little for us, from which we have not cleansed ourselves untoto this day, although there came a plague uponcame on the congregation of Jehovahthe Lord, |
| 22:18 |
that yeyou must turn away this day from following Jehovahthe Lord? andAnd it will be,come seeingabout yeif you rebel toagainst daythe againstLord Jehovahtoday, that toHe morrow he will be wrothangry with the whole congregation of Israel tomorrow. |
| 22:19 |
HowbeitIf, ifhowever, the land of your possession beis unclean, then passcross yeinto over unto the land of the possession of Jehovahthe Lord, whereinwhere Jehovahsthe Lords tabernacle dwellethstands, and take possession among us:. butOnly rebeldo not rebel against Jehovahthe Lord, noror rebel against us, inby building you an altar for yourselves, besides the altar of Jehovahthe Lord our God. |
| 22:20 |
Did not Achan the son of Zerah commitact aunfaithfully trespass in the devotedthings thingunder the ban, and wrath fellfall uponon all the congregation of Israel? andAnd that man perisheddid not perish alone in his iniquity. |
| 22:21 |
Then the childrensons of Reuben and the childrensons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh answered, and spakespoke untoto the heads of the thousandsfamilies of Israel,. |
| 22:22 |
The Mighty One, God, Jehovahthe Lord, the Mighty One, God, Jehovah, the heLord! knoweth; He knows, and may Israel heitself shall know:. ifIf it bewas in rebellion, or if in trespassan unfaithful act against Jehovahthe Lord do not Thou save thou us not this day,! |
| 22:23 |
thatIf we have built us an altar to turn away from following Jehovah;the Lord, or if to offer thereona burnt offering or mealgrain offering on it, or if to offer sacrifices of peace offerings thereonon it, letmay Jehovahthe himselfLord Himself require it;. |
| 22:24 |
andBut iftruly we have notdone ratherthis out of carefulness done thisconcern, andfor ofa purposereason, saying, In time to come your childrensons mightmay speaksay untoto our childrensons, saying, What have yeyou to do with Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel? |
| 22:25 |
forFor Jehovahthe hathLord has made the Jordan a border between us and you, yeyou childrensons of Reuben and childrensons of Gad; yeyou have no portion in Jehovah:the soLord. mightSo your childrensons may make our childrensons ceasestop from fearing Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 22:26 |
Therefore we said, Let us now prepare to build us an altar, not for burnt offering, noror for sacrifice:; |
| 22:27 |
butrather it shall be a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us, that we mayare doto perform the service of Jehovahthe Lord before himHim with our burnt offerings, and with our sacrifices, and with our peace offerings;, that your childrensons may not say to our childrensons in time to come, YeYou have no portion in Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 22:28 |
Therefore we said we, It shall be,also whencome about if they so say this to us or to our generations in time to come, thatthen we shall say, BeholdSee the patterncopy of the altar of Jehovah, the Lord which our fathers made, not for burnt offering, noror for sacrifice; butrather it is a witness between us and you. |
| 22:29 |
Far be it from us that we should rebel against Jehovah, the Lord and turn away this day from following Jehovahthe Lord this day, toby buildbuilding an altar for burnt offering, for mealgrain offering, or for sacrifice, besides the altar of Jehovahthe Lord our God thatwhich is before hisHis tabernacle. |
| 22:30 |
AndSo when Phinehas the priest, and the princesleaders of the congregation, even the heads of the thousandsfamilies of Israel thatwho were with him, heard the words thatwhich the childrensons of Reuben and the childrensons of Gad and the childrensons of Manasseh spakespoke, it pleased them well. |
| 22:31 |
And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said untoto the childrensons of Reuben, and to the childrensons of Gad, and to the childrensons of Manasseh, ThisToday day we know that Jehovahthe Lord is in theour midst of us, because yeyou have not committed this trespassunfaithful act against Jehovah:the Lord; now you have ye delivered the childrensons of Israel outfrom of the hand of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 22:32 |
AndThen Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes, leaders returned from the childrensons of Reuben, and from the childrensons of Gad, outfrom of the land of Gilead, untoto the land of Canaan, to the childrensons of Israel, and brought themback word againto them. |
| 22:33 |
And the thingword pleased the childrensons of Israel;, and the childrensons of Israel blessed God,; and spakethey nodid morenot speak of going up against them toin war, to destroy the land whereinin which the childrensons of Reuben and the childrensons of Gad dweltwere living. |
| 22:34 |
And the childrensons of Reuben and the childrensons of Gad called the altar Ed:Witness; For, they said they, it is a witness between us that Jehovahthe Lord is God. |
| 23:1 |
AndNow it came toabout pass after many days, when Jehovahthe Lord had given rest untoto Israel from all their enemies roundon aboutevery side, and Joshua was old, andadvanced well stricken in years;, |
| 23:2 |
that Joshua called for all Israel, for their elders and for their heads, and for their judges and for their officers, and said untoto them, I am old, andadvanced well stricken in years:. |
| 23:3 |
andAnd yeyou have seen all that Jehovahthe Lord your God hathhas done untoto all these nations because of you;, for Jehovahthe Lord your God, heis itHe iswho thathas hathbeen foughtfighting for you. |
| 23:4 |
BeholdSee, I have allottedapportioned untoto you these nations thatwhich remain, toas be an inheritance for your tribes, from the Jordan, with all the nations thatwhich I have cut off, from the Jordan even untoto the greatGreat seaSea toward the goingsetting down of the sun. |
| 23:5 |
And Jehovahthe Lord your God, heHe willshall thrust them out from before you, and drive them from outbefore of your sightyou; and yeyou shall possess their land, just as Jehovahthe Lord your God spakepromised unto you. |
| 23:6 |
ThereforeBe bevery yefirm, verythen, courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, so that yeyou turnmay not turn aside therefromfrom it to the right hand or to the left;, |
| 23:7 |
in order that yeyou comemay not amongassociate with these nations, these thatwhich remain among you;, neitheror make mention of the name of their gods, noror causemake toanyone swear by them, neitheror serve them, noror bow down yourselvesto unto them;. |
| 23:8 |
butBut cleaveyou untoare Jehovahto cling to the Lord your God, as yeyou have done untoto this day. |
| 23:9 |
For Jehovahthe hathLord has driven out great and strong nations from before you; great nations and strong: but as for you, no man hathhas stood before you untoto this day. |
| 23:10 |
One man of youyour shallmen chaseputs to flight a thousand;, for Jehovahthe Lord your God, heis itHe iswho thatfights fighteth for you, just as heHe spakepromised unto you. |
| 23:11 |
TakeSo goodtake diligent heed thereforeto unto yourselves, thatto ye love Jehovahthe Lord your God. |
| 23:12 |
ElseFor if yeyou doever at all go back, and cleavecling untoto the remnantrest of these nations, even these thatwhich remain among you, and makeintermarry marriages with them, andso gothat inyou untoassociate with them, and they towith you;, |
| 23:13 |
know forwith a certainty that Jehovahthe Lord your God will nonot morecontinue to drive these nations from out offrom yourbefore sightyou; but they shall be a snare and a trap untoto you, and a scourgewhip inon your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until yeyou perish from off this good land which Jehovahthe Lord your God hathhas given you. |
| 23:14 |
And,Now behold, thistoday day I am going the way of all the earth:, and yeyou know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thingword hath failed of all the good thingswords which Jehovahthe Lord your God spakespoke concerning you has failed; all arehave comebeen tofulfilled passfor unto you, not one thingof haththem has failed thereof. |
| 23:15 |
And it shall come toabout pass, that just as all the good thingswords arewhich comethe uponLord youyour ofGod whichspoke Jehovahto youryou Godhave spakecome untoupon you, so the Lord will Jehovah bring upon you all the evil thingsthreats, until heHe havehas destroyed you from off this good land which Jehovahthe Lord your God hathhas given you. |
| 23:16 |
When yeyou transgress the covenant of Jehovahthe Lord your God, which heHe commanded you, and go and serve other gods, and bow down yourselves to them;, then will the anger of Jehovahthe beLord kindledwill burn against you, and yeyou shall perish quickly from off the good land which heHe hathhas given unto you. |
| 24:1 |
AndThen Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God. |
| 24:2 |
And Joshua said untoto all the people, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel, YourFrom fathersancient dwelttimes ofyour oldfathers timelived beyond the River, evennamely, Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nahor:, and they served other gods. |
| 24:3 |
AndThen I took your father Abraham from beyond the River, and led him throughoutthrough all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, descendants and gave him Isaac. |
| 24:4 |
And to Isaac I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau:, and to Esau I gave untoMount Esau mount Seir, to possess it; andbut Jacob and his childrensons went down intoto Egypt. |
| 24:5 |
AndThen I sent Moses and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, accordingby towhat that which I did in theits midst; thereof: and afterward I brought you out. |
| 24:6 |
And I brought your fathers out of Egypt:, and yeyou came untoto the sea; and theEgypt Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and with horsemen untoto the Red Sea. |
| 24:7 |
AndBut when they cried out untoto Jehovahthe Lord, heHe put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your own eyes saw what I did in Egypt:. andAnd yeyou dweltlived in the wilderness manyfor daysa long time. |
| 24:8 |
AndThen I brought you into the land of the Amorites, thatwho dweltlived beyond the Jordan:, and they fought with you; and I gave them into your hand, and yeyou possessedtook possession of their land; andwhen I destroyed them from before you. |
| 24:9 |
Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and fought against Israel:, and he sent and calledsummoned Balaam the son of Beor to curse you;. |
| 24:10 |
butBut I wouldwas not hearkenwilling untoto listen to Balaam;. thereforeSo he blessedhad to bless you, still:and so I delivered you outfrom of his hand. |
| 24:11 |
And yeyou wentcrossed over the Jordan, and came untoto Jericho:; and the mencitizens of Jericho fought against you, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Girgashite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite;. andThus I deliveredgave them into your hand. |
| 24:12 |
AndThen I sent the hornet before you, whichand it drove them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; from before you, but not withby thyyour sword, noror withyour thy bow. |
| 24:13 |
And I gave you a land whereonon thouwhich hadstyou had not labored, and cities which yeyou builthad not built, and yeyou dwellhave thereinlived in them; you are eating of vineyards and oliveyardsolive groves which yeyou planteddid not do ye eatplant. |
| 24:14 |
Now, therefore, fear Jehovah, the Lord and serve himHim in sincerity and in truth; and put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River, and in Egypt;, and serve yethe JehovahLord. |
| 24:15 |
And if it seemis evildisagreeable untoin youyour sight to serve Jehovahthe Lord, choose youfor thisyourselves daytoday whom yeyou will serve;: whether the gods which your fathers served thatwhich were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land yeyou dwell:are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 24:16 |
And the people answered and said, Far be it from us that we should forsake Jehovah, the Lord to serve other gods; |
| 24:17 |
for Jehovahthe Lord our God, heis itHe iswho that brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and thatwho did thosethese great signs in our sight, and preserved us inthrough all the way whereinin which we went, and among all the peoples through thewhose midst of whom we passed;. |
| 24:18 |
andAnd Jehovahthe Lord drove out from before us all the peoples, even the Amorites thatwho dweltlived in the land:. thereforeWe we also will serve Jehovah;the Lord, for heHe is our God. |
| 24:19 |
AndThen Joshua said untoto the people, YeYou cannotwill not be able to serve Jehovah;the Lord, for heHe is a holy God;. heHe is a jealous God; heHe will not forgive your transgression noror your sins. |
| 24:20 |
If yeyou forsake Jehovah, the Lord and serve foreign gods, then heHe will turn and do you evil, harm and consume you, after thatHe hehas hath done good to you good. |
| 24:21 |
And the people said untoto Joshua, Nay;No, but we will serve Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 24:22 |
And Joshua said untoto the people, YeYou are witnesses against yourselves that yeyou have chosen youfor Jehovahyourselves the Lord, to serve himHim. And they said, We are witnesses. |
| 24:23 |
Now therefore, put away, said he, the foreign gods which are amongin youyour midst, and incline your hearthearts untoto Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel. |
| 24:24 |
And the people said untoto Joshua, JehovahWe will serve the Lord our God willand we serve, will andobey untoHis his voice will we hearken. |
| 24:25 |
So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and setmade for them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem. |
| 24:26 |
And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God; and he took a greatlarge stone, and set it up there under the oak that was by the sanctuary of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 24:27 |
And Joshua said untoto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be for a witness against us;, for it hathhas heard all the words of Jehovahthe Lord which heHe spakespoke untoto us:; thus it shall be thereforefor a witness against you, lest yeyou deny your God. |
| 24:28 |
SoThen Joshua sentdismissed the people away, everyeach manto unto his inheritance. |
| 24:29 |
And it came toabout pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Jehovahthe Lord, died, being aone hundred and ten years old. |
| 24:30 |
And they buried him in the borderterritory of his inheritance in Timnath serah, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, on the north of theMount mountain of Gaash. |
| 24:31 |
And Israel served Jehovahthe Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders thatwho outlivedsurvived Joshua, and had known all the workdeeds of Jehovah, the thatLord hewhich He had wroughtdone for Israel. |
| 24:32 |
AndNow they buried the bones of Joseph, which the childrensons of Israel brought up outfrom of Egypt, buriedat they in Shechem, in the parcelpiece of ground which Jacob had bought offrom the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for aone hundred pieces of money:; and they became the inheritance of theJosephs children of Josephsons. |
| 24:33 |
And Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him inat theGibeah hill of Phinehas his son, which was given him in the hill country of Ephraim. |
