6:13 AndThen Gideon said untoto him, Oh,O my Lord, if Jehovahthe Lord is with us, why then ishas all this befallenhappened to us? andAnd where are all hisHis wondrousmiracles works which our fathers told us ofabout, saying, Did not Jehovahthe Lord bring us up from Egypt? butBut now Jehovahthe hathLord casthas abandoned us off, and deliveredgiven us into the hand of Midian.
6:14 And Jehovahthe Lord looked uponat him, and said, Go in this thyyour might, strength and savedeliver Israel from the hand of Midian:. haveHave I not I sent theeyou?
6:15 And he said untoto himHim, Oh,O Lord, wherewithhow shall I savedeliver Israel? beholdBehold, my family is the poorestleast in Manasseh, and I am the leastyoungest in my fathers house.
6:16 AndBut Jehovahthe Lord said untoto him, Surely I will be with theeyou, and thouyou shaltshall smitedefeat theMidian Midianites as one man.
6:17 AndSo heGideon said untoto himHim, If now I have found favor in thyThy sight, then show me a sign that it is thouThou thatwho talkestspeakest with me.
6:18 DepartPlease do not hence, depart Ifrom pray theehere, until I come untoback theeto Thee, and bring forthout my present, offering and lay it before theeThee. And heHe said, I will tarryremain until thouyou come againreturn.
6:19 AndThen Gideon went in, and madeprepared ready a kid, and unleavened cakesbread offrom an ephah of meal:flour; the flesh he put the meat in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot, and brought itthem out untoto him under the oak, and presented itthem.
6:20 And the angel of God said untoto him, Take the fleshmeat and the unleavened cakes, bread and lay them uponon this rock, and pour out the broth. And he did so.
6:21 Then the angel of Jehovahthe Lord put forthout the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the fleshmeat and the unleavened cakesbread; and therefire wentsprang up firefrom out of the rock, and consumed the fleshmeat and the unleavened cakes;bread. andThen the angel of Jehovahthe departedLord outvanished offrom his sight.
6:22 AndWhen Gideon saw that he was the angel of Jehovah;the andLord, Gideonhe said, Alas, O Lord JehovahGod! forasmuchFor asnow I have seen the angel of Jehovahthe Lord face to face.
6:23 And Jehovahthe Lord said untoto him, Peace beto untoyou, thee;do not fear; not:you thoushall shalt not die.
6:24 Then Gideon built an altar there untoto Jehovah, the Lord and callednamed it JehovahThe shalom:Lord untois Peace. To this day it is yetstill in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
6:25 AndNow the same night it came toabout passthat the sameLord night, that Jehovah said untoto him, Take thyyour fathers bullock,bull evenand thea second bullockbull seven years old, and throwpull down the altar of Baal thatwhich thybelongs to your father hath, and cut down the Asherah that is bybeside it;
6:26 and build an altar untoto Jehovahthe thyLord your God uponon the top of this stronghold, in thean orderly manner, and take thea second bullock, bull and offer a burnt offering with the wood of the Asherah which thouyou shaltshall cut down.
6:27 Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as Jehovahthe Lord had spoken untoto him:; and it came to passabout, because he fearedwas too afraid of his fathers household and the men of the city, soto that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night.
6:28 AndWhen when the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was brokentorn down, and the Asherah which was cutbeside downit that was bycut itdown, and the second bullockbull was offered uponon the altar thatwhich washad been built.
6:29 And they said to one to another, Who hathdid done this thing? And when they inquiredsearched about and askedinquired, they said, Gideon the son of Joash hathdid done this thing.
6:30 Then the men of the city said untoto Joash, Bring out thyyour son, that he may die, becausefor he hathhas brokentorn down the altar of Baal, and becauseindeed, he hathhas cut down the Asherah thatwhich was bybeside it.
6:31 AndBut Joash said untoto all thatwho stood against him, Will yeyou contend for Baal?, or will yeyou savedeliver him? heWhoever that will contendplead for him, letshall him be put to death whilstby it is yet morning:. ifIf he beis a god, let him contend for himself, because onesomeone hathhas brokentorn down his altar.
6:32 Therefore on that day he callednamed him Jerubbaal, sayingthat is to say, Let Baal contend against him, because he hathhad brokentorn down his altar.
6:33 Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the childrensons of the east assembled themselves together; and they passedcrossed over, and encampedcamped in the valley of Jezreel.
6:34 ButSo the Spirit of Jehovahthe Lord came upon Gideon; and he blew a trumpet;, and Abiezerthe wasAbiezrites gatheredwere called together afterto follow him.
6:35 And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh;, and they also were gatheredcalled together afterto follow him:; and he sent messengers untoto Asher, and unto Zebulun, and unto Naphtali;, and they came up to meet them.
6:36 AndThen Gideon said untoto God, If thouThou wilt savedeliver Israel bythrough my handme, as thouThou hast spoken,
6:37 behold, I will put a fleece of wool on the threshing floor;. ifIf there beis dew on the fleece only, and it beis dry uponon all the ground, then shall I will know that thouThou wilt savedeliver Israel bythrough my handme, as thouThou hast spoken.
6:38 And it was so;. forWhen he rosearose up early on the morrow, next morning and pressedsqueezed the fleece together, andhe wrungdrained the dew outfrom of the fleece, a bowlfulbowl full of water.
6:39 AndThen Gideon said untoto God, LetDo not thinelet Thine anger beburn kindled against me, andthat I willmay speak butonce thismore; once:please let me make trial,a Itest prayonce thee, more but this once with the fleece;, let it now be dry only uponon the fleece, and uponlet allthere thebe grounddew leton thereall bethe dewground.
6:40 And God did so that night:; for it was dry upononly on the fleece only, and theredew was dew on all the ground.
7:1 Then Jerubbaal, whothat is, Gideon, and all the people thatwho were with him, rose up early, and encampedcamped beside the spring of Harod:; and the camp of Midian was on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.
7:2 And Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Gideon, The people thatwho are with theeyou are too many for meMe to give theMidian Midianites into their handhands, lest Israel vauntbecome themselves against meboastful, saying, MineMy own handpower hathhas saveddelivered me.
7:3 Now therefore come, proclaim in the earshearing of the people, saying, WhosoeverWhoever is fearfulafraid and trembling, let him return and depart from mountMount Gilead. AndSo there22,000 returned of the people twentyreturned, andbut two10,000 thousand; and there remained ten thousand.
7:4 AndThen Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Gideon, The people are yetstill too many; bring them down untoto the water, and I will trytest them for theeyou there:. andTherefore it shall be, that he of whom I say untoto theeyou, This one shall go with theeyou, thehe same shall go with theeyou; andbut everyone of whomsoeverwhom I say untoto theeyou, This one shall not go with theeyou, thehe same shall not go.
7:5 So he brought down the people untodown to the water:. andAnd Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Gideon, EveryYou oneshall thatseparate lappetheveryone ofwho laps the water with his tongue, as a dog lappethlaps, himas shaltwell thouas seteveryone bywho himself;kneels likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink.
7:6 AndNow the number of themthose thatwho lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three300 hundred men:; but all the rest of the people bowedkneeled down upon their knees to drink water.
7:7 And Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Gideon, ByI thewill threedeliver hundredyou menwith thatthe lapped300 willmen Iwho savelapped you, and deliverwill give the Midianites into thyyour handhands; andso let all the other people go, everyeach man untoto his placehome.
7:8 So the people300 men took victualsthe inpeoples theirprovisions hand, and their trumpets; andinto hetheir hands. And Gideon sent all the other men of Israel, everyeach manto unto his tent, but retained the three300 hundred men:; and the camp of Midian was beneathbelow him in the valley.
7:9 AndNow the same night it came toabout passthat the sameLord night, that Jehovah said untoto him, Arise, getgo thee down intoagainst the camp;, for I have deliveredgiven it into thyyour handhands.
7:10 But if thouyou fearare afraid to go down, go thou with Purah thyyour servant down to the camp:,
7:11 and thouyou shaltwill hear what they say; and afterward shallyour thy hands will be strengthened tothat you may go down intoagainst the camp. ThenSo went he downwent with Purah his servant untodown to the outermostoutposts part of the armedarmy men that werewas in the camp.
7:12 AndNow the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the childrensons of the east laywere alonglying in the valley likeas locustsnumerous foras multitudelocusts; and their camels were without number, as numerous as the sand whichon is upon the sea shore for multitudeseashore.
7:13 AndWhen when Gideon was comecame, behold, there was a man tellingwas relating a dream untoto his fellow;friend. andAnd he said, Behold, I dreamedhad a dream; and, lo, a cakeloaf of barley bread tumbledwas tumbling into the camp of Midian, and it came untoto the tent, and smotestruck it so that it fell, and turned it upside down, so that the tent lay flat.
7:14 And his fellowfriend answered and said, This is nothing elseless savethan the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel:; into his hand God hathhas deliveredgiven Midian, and all the hostcamp into his hand.
7:15 And it wascame so,about when Gideon heard the tellingaccount of the dream, and theits interpretation thereof, that he worshipped;bowed andin heworship. He returned intoto the camp of Israel, and said, Arise;, for Jehovahthe hathLord deliveredhas intogiven your hand the hostcamp of Midian into your hands.
7:16 And he divided the three300 hundred men into three companies, and he put trumpets and empty pitchers into the hands of all of them trumpets, and empty pitchers, with torches withininside the pitchers.
7:17 And he said untoto them, Look onat me, and do likewise:. and,And behold, when I come to the outermostoutskirts part of the camp, itdo shall be that, as I do, so shall ye do.
7:18 When I blow the trumpet, I and all thatwho are with me, then blow ye the trumpetstrumpet, then you also onblow everythe sidetrumpets of all around the camp, and say, For Jehovahthe Lord and for Gideon.
7:19 So Gideon, and the hundred men thatwho were with him, came untoto the outermostoutskirts part of the camp inat the beginning of the middle watch, when they had butjust newlyposted set the watch:; and they blew the trumpets, and brakesmashed in pieces the pitchers that were in their hands.
7:20 AndWhen the three companies blew the trumpets, and brakebroke the pitchers, andthey held the torches in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands wherewithfor toblowing, blow; and they cried, TheA sword offor Jehovahthe Lord and offor Gideon.!
7:21 And theyeach stood every man in his place roundaround about the camp; and all the hostarmy ran; and they shouted, andcrying putout themas tothey flightfled.
7:22 And when they blew the300 three hundred trumpets, andthe JehovahLord set everythe mans sword againstof hisone fellow, against andanother againsteven allthroughout the hostwhole army; and the hostarmy fled as far as Beth shittah toward Zererah, as far as the borderedge of Abel meholah, by Tabbath.
7:23 And the men of Israel were gatheredsummoned togetherfrom out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and they pursued after Midian.
7:24 And Gideon sent messengers throughout all the hill country of Ephraim, saying, Come down against Midian, and take the waters before them the waters, as far as Beth barah, evenand the Jordan. So all the men of Ephraim were gathered togethersummoned, and they took the waters as far as Beth barah, evenand the Jordan.
7:25 And they tookcaptured the two princesleaders of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb;, and they slewkilled Oreb at the rock of Oreb, and Zeeb they slewkilled Zeeb at the winepresswine press of Zeeb, andwhile they pursued Midian:; and they brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon beyondfrom across the Jordan.
8:1 AndThen the men of Ephraim said untoto him, WhyWhat hastis thouthis servedthing usyou thus, have thatdone thouto calledst us, not, calling us when thouyou wentestwent to fight withagainst Midian? And they didcontended chide with him sharplyvigorously.
8:2 AndBut he said untoto them, What have I done now done in comparison with you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?
8:3 God hathhas deliveredgiven into your hand the princesleaders of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: into your hands; and what was I able to do in comparison with you? Then their anger was abated toward him, subsided when he had said that.
8:4 AndThen Gideon cameand to the Jordan,300 andmen passedwho over, were he,with andhim thecame threeto hundredthe menJordan thatand werecrossed with himover, faint, weary yet pursuing.
8:5 And he said untoto the men of Succoth, Give,Please Igive pray you, loaves of bread untoto the people thatwho followare following me;, for they are faintweary, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian.
8:6 And the princesleaders of Succoth said, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna nowalready in thyyour handhands, that we should give bread untoto thineyour army?
8:7 And Gideon said, ThereforeAll right, when Jehovahthe hathLord deliveredhas given Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand, then I will tearthrash your fleshbodies with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.
8:8 And he went up thencefrom there to Penuel, and spakespoke untosimilarly to them in like manner; and the men of Penuel answered him just as the men of Succoth had answered.
8:9 AndSo he spakespoke also untoto the men of Penuel, saying, When I comereturn again in peacesafely, I will breaktear down this tower.
8:10 Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their hostsarmies with them, about fifteen15,000 thousand men, all thatwho were left of all the hostentire army of the childrensons of the east; for therethe fellfallen awere hundred120,000 and twenty thousand men that drew swordswordsmen.
8:11 And Gideon went up by the way of themthose thatwho dweltlived in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and smoteattacked the host;camp, forwhen the hostcamp was secureunsuspecting.
8:12 AndWhen Zebah and Zalmunna fled;, and he pursued after them; and hecaptured took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and discomfitedrouted all the hostwhole army.
8:13 AndThen Gideon the son of Joash returned from the battle fromby the ascent of Heres.
8:14 And he caughtcaptured a youngyouth manfrom of the men of Succoth, and inquiredquestioned of him:. andThen hethe describedyouth wrote down for him the princes of Succoth, and theits elders thereof, seventy and seven men.
8:15 And he came untoto the men of Succoth, and said, Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, concerning whom yeyou didtaunted taunt me, saying, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna nowalready in thyyour hand, that we should give bread untoto thyyour men thatwho are weary?
8:16 And he took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taughtdisciplined the men of Succoth with them.
8:17 And he braketore down the tower of Penuel, and slewkilled the men of the city.
8:18 Then he said heto unto Zebah and Zalmunna, What mannerkind of men were they whom yeyou slewkilled at Tabor? And they answeredsaid, AsThey thouwere artlike you, so were they; each one resembledresembling the childrenson of a king.
8:19 And he said, They were my brethrenbrothers, the sons of my mother:. asAs Jehovahthe livethLord lives, if yeonly you had savedlet them alivelive, I would not slaykill you.
8:20 AndSo he said untoto Jether his first born, UpRise, andkill slay them. But the youth drewdid not draw his sword;, for he fearedwas afraid, because he was yetstill a youth.
8:21 Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, Rise thouup yourself, and fall uponon us; for as the man is, so is his strength. AndSo Gideon arose, and slewkilled Zebah and Zalmunna, and took the crescentscrescent thatornaments which were on their camels necks.
8:22 Then the men of Israel said untoto Gideon, Rule thou over us, both thou, you and thyyour son, andalso thyyour sons son, also; for thouyou hasthave saveddelivered us outfrom of the hand of Midian.
8:23 AndBut Gideon said untoto them, I will not rule over you, neithernor shall my son rule over you:; Jehovahthe Lord shall rule over you.
8:24 AndYet Gideon said untoto them, I would make a request of you, that yeeach wouldof you give me everyan manearring thefrom ear rings of his spoil. For they had goldengold ear ringsearrings, because they were Ishmaelites.
8:25 And they answeredsaid, We will willinglysurely give them. AndSo they spread out a garment, and didevery castone thereinof everythem manthrew thean earearring ringsthere offrom his spoil.
8:26 And the weight of the goldengold earearrings rings that he requested was a1,700 thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold;, besides the crescents, crescent ornaments and the pendants, and the purple raimentrobes thatwhich waswere on the kings of Midian, and besides the chainsneck bands that were abouton their camels necks.
8:27 And Gideon made it into an ephod thereof, and putplaced it in his city, even in Ophrah:, and all Israel played the harlot afterwith it there;, andso that it became a snare untoto Gideon, and to his househousehold.
8:28 So Midian was subdued before the childrensons of Israel, and they lifteddid not lift up their heads no moreanymore. And the land hadwas restundisturbed for forty years in the days of Gideon.
8:29 AndThen Jerubbaal the son of Joash went and dweltlived in his own house.
8:30 AndNow Gideon had threescoreseventy andsons tenwho sonswere of his bodydirect begotten;descendants, for he had many wives.
8:31 And his concubine thatwho was in Shechem, she also barebore him a son, and he callednamed hishim name Abimelech.
8:32 And Gideon the son of Joash died inat a goodripe old age, and was buried in the sepulchretomb of Joash his father Joash, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
8:33 AndThen it came to passabout, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the childrensons of Israel turned again, and played the harlot afterwith the BaalimBaals, and made Baal berith their god.
8:34 AndThus the childrensons of Israel remembereddid not Jehovahremember the Lord their God, who had delivered them outfrom of the handhands of all their enemies on every side;
8:35 neithernor showeddid they show kindness to the househousehold of Jerubbaal, whothat is, Gideon, accordingin toaccord with all the goodnessgood whichthat he had showeddone untoto Israel.
9:1 And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem untoto his mothers brethrenrelatives, and spakespoke withto them, and withto all the familywhole clan of the househousehold of his mothers father, saying,
9:2 Speak, I pray younow, in the earshearing of all the menleaders of Shechem, WhetherWhich is better for you, that seventy men, all the sons of Jerubbaal, who are threescore and ten persons, rule over you, or that one man rule over you? Also, remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.
9:3 And his mothers brethrenrelatives spakespoke ofall himthese words on his behalf in the earshearing of all the menleaders of Shechem; all these words: and theirthey heartswere inclined to follow Abimelech;, for they said, He is our brotherrelative.
9:4 And they gave him threescoreseventy and ten pieces of silver outfrom of the house of Baal berith, wherewithwith which Abimelech hired vainworthless and lightreckless fellows, whoand they followed him.
9:5 AndThen he went untoto his fathers house at Ophrah, and slewkilled his brethrenbrothers the sons of Jerubbaal, beingseventy threescore and ten personsmen, uponon one stone:. butBut Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left;, for he hid himself.
9:6 And all the men of Shechem assembled themselves together, and all theBeth housemillo ofassembled Millotogether, and they went and made Abimelech king, by the oak of the pillar thatwhich was in Shechem.
9:7 AndNow when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood on the top of mountMount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and cried, called andout. Thus he said untoto them, HearkenListen untoto me, yeO men of Shechem, that God may hearkenlisten untoto you.
9:8 TheOnce the trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them;, and they said untoto the olive tree, Reign thou over us.!
9:9 But the olive tree said untoto them, ShouldShall I leave my fatness, wherewithwith bywhich meGod theyand honormen Godare and manhonored, and go to wave to and fro over the trees?
9:10 AndThen the trees said to the fig tree, ComeYou thoucome, and reign over us.!
9:11 But the fig tree said untoto them, ShouldShall I leave my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to wave to and fro over the trees?
9:12 AndThen the trees said untoto the vine, ComeYou thoucome, and reign over us.!
9:13 AndBut the vine said untoto them, ShouldShall I leave my new wine, which cheerethcheers God and manmen, and go to wave to and fro over the trees?
9:14 ThenFinally said all the trees untosaid to the bramble, ComeYou thoucome, and reign over us.!
9:15 And the bramble said untoto the trees, If in truth yeyou anointare anointing me as king over you, then come and take refuge in my shade; andbut if not, letmay fire come out offrom the bramble, and devourconsume the cedars of Lebanon.
9:16 Now therefore, if yeyou have dealt trulyin truth and uprightly, integrity in thatmaking ye have made Abimelech king, and if yeyou have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have donedealt untowith him accordingas tohe the deserving of his handsdeserved
9:17 for my father fought for you, and adventuredrisked his life, and delivered you outfrom of the hand of Midian:;
9:18 andbut yeyou arehave risen up against my fathers house thistoday day, and have slainkilled his sons, threescoreseventy and ten personsmen, uponon one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his maid servantmaidservant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother;relative
9:19 if ye then you have dealt trulyin truth and uprightlyintegrity with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you:.
9:20 butBut if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devourconsume the men of Shechem, and theBeth house of Millomillo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from theBeth house of Millomillo, and devourconsume Abimelech.
9:21 AndThen Jotham ranescaped away, and fled, and went to Beer, and dweltremained there, forbecause fear of Abimelech his brother.
9:22 AndNow Abimelech wasruled prince over Israel three years.
9:23 AndThen God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:,
9:24 in order that the violence done to the threescoreseventy and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and that their blood might be laid uponon Abimelech their brother, who slewkilled them, and uponon the men of Shechem, who strengthened his hands to slaykill his brethrenbrothers.
9:25 And the men of Shechem set liersmen in waitambush foragainst him on the tops of the mountains, and they robbed all thatwho camemight alongpass that way by them: along the road; and it was told to Abimelech.
9:26 AndNow Gaal the son of Ebed came with his brethrenrelatives, and wentcrossed over tointo Shechem; and the men of Shechem put their trust in him.
9:27 And they went out into the field, and gathered the grapes of their vineyards, and trod the grapesthem, and held a festival,; and they went into the house of their god, and didate eat and drink, drank and cursed Abimelech.
9:28 AndThen Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? isIs he not he the son of Jerubbaal?, and is Zebul not his officerlieutenant? serveServe ye the men of Hamor the father of Shechem:; but why should we serve him?
9:29 AndWould, wouldtherefore, that this people were under my handauthority! thenThen I would I remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase thineyour army, and come out.
9:30 And when Zebul the ruler of the city heard the words of Gaal the son of Ebed, his anger was kindledburned.
9:31 And he sent messengers untoto Abimelech craftilydeceitfully, saying, Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brethrenrelatives arehave come to Shechem; and, behold, they constrainare stirring up the city to take part against theeyou.
9:32 Now therefore, uparise by night, thouyou and the people thatwho are with theeyou, and lie in wait in the field:.
9:33 andAnd it shall be,come thatabout in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, thouthat shaltyou shall rise early, and rush upon the city; and, behold, when he and the people thatwho are with him come out against theeyou, thenyou mayestshall thou do to them aswhatever thouyou shalt find occasioncan.
9:34 AndSo Abimelech rose up, and all the people thatwho were with him, arose by night, and theylay laidin wait against Shechem in four companies.
9:35 AndNow Gaal the son of Ebed went out, and stood in the entrance of the city gate; of the city: and Abimelech rose up, and the people thatwho were with him, arose from the ambushmentambush.
9:36 And when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, BeholdLook, therepeople comeare peoplecoming down from the tops of the mountains. AndBut Zebul said untoto him, ThouYou seestare seeing the shadow of the mountains as if they were men.
9:37 And Gaal spakespoke again and said, SeeBehold, therepeople comeare peoplecoming down byfrom the middlehighest part of the land, and one company comethcomes by the way of the diviners oak of Meonenim.
9:38 Then Zebul said Zebulto unto him, Where is your boasting now thywith mouth, which thatyou thou saidstsaid, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? isIs this not this the people thatwhom thouyou hast despised? goGo out now, I pray, and fight with them.!
9:39 AndSo Gaal went out before the menleaders of Shechem, and fought with Abimelech.
9:40 And Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him,; and theremany fell many wounded, evenup untoto the entrance of the gate.
9:41 AndThen Abimelech dweltremained at Arumah:, andbut Zebul drove out Gaal and his brethren, relatives so that they shouldcould not dwellremain in Shechem.
9:42 AndNow it came toabout passthe onnext the morrowday, that the people went out intoto the field;, and theyit was told to Abimelech.
9:43 AndSo he took thehis people, and divided them into three companies, and laidlay in wait in the field; andwhen he looked, and, behold, saw the people camecoming forth out offrom the city;, and he rosearose up against them, and smoteslew them.
9:44 AndThen Abimelech, and the companiescompany thatwho werewas with him, rusheddashed forward, and stood in the entrance of the city gate; of the city:other and the two companies rushedthen upondashed against all thatwho were in the field, and smoteslew them.
9:45 And Abimelech fought against the city all that day;, and he tookcaptured the city, and slewkilled the people thatwho were therein:in andit; then he beatrazed down the city, and sowed it with salt.
9:46 AndWhen when all the menleaders of the tower of Shechem heard thereofof it, they entered into the strongholdinner chamber of the housetemple of ElberithEl berith.
9:47 And it was told Abimelech that all the menleaders of the tower of Shechem were gathered together.
9:48 AndSo Abimelech gatwent him up to mountMount Zalmon, he and all the people thatwho were with him; and Abimelech took an axe in his hand, and cut down a boughbranch from the trees, and tooklifted it up, and laid it on his shoulder:. andThen he said untoto the people thatwho were with him, What yeyou have seen me do, makehurry haste, and do as I have donelikewise.
9:49 And all the people likewisealso cut down everyeach manone his bough, branch and followed Abimelech, and put them toon the stronghold, inner chamber and set the strongholdinner chamber on fire uponover them;those inside, so that all the men of the tower of Shechem also died also, about a thousand men and women.
9:50 Then Abimelech went Abimelech to Thebez, and encampedhe camped against Thebez, and tookcaptured it.
9:51 But there was a strong tower withinin the center of the city, and thither fled all the men and women, andwith all theythe leaders of the city, fled there and shut themselves in,; and gatthey themwent up toon the roof of the tower.
9:52 AndSo Abimelech came untoto the tower, and fought against it, and drewapproached near unto the doorentrance of the tower to burn it with fire.
9:53 AndBut a certain woman castthrew an upper millstone uponon Abimelechs head, andcrushing brake his skull.
9:54 Then he called hastilyquickly untoto the young man, his armorbearerarmor bearer, and said untoto him, Draw thyyour sword, and kill me, thatlest menit saybe notsaid of me, A woman slew him. AndSo histhe young man thrustpierced him through, and he died.
9:55 And when the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was dead, theyeach departed everyto man unto his placehome.
9:56 Thus God requitedrepaid the wickedness of Abimelech, which he didhad untodone to his father, in slayingkilling his seventy brethren;brothers.
9:57 andAlso God returned all the wickedness of the men of Shechem didon God requite upon their heads:, and upon them came the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal came upon them.
10:1 AndNow after Abimelech theredied, arose to save Israel Tola the son of Puah, the son of Dodo, a man of Issachar, arose to save Israel; and he dweltlived in Shamir in the hill country of Ephraim.
10:2 And he judged Israel twenty and three years,. andThen he died, and was buried in Shamir.
10:3 And after him, arose Jair, the Gileadite; arose, and he judged Israel twenty and two years.
10:4 And he had thirty sons thatwho rode on thirty ass coltsdonkeys, and they had thirty cities, whichin the land of Gilead that are called Havvoth jair untoto this day, which are in the land of Gilead.
10:5 And Jair died, and was buried in Kamon.
10:6 AndThen the childrensons of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord, and served the Baalim,Baals and the Ashtaroth, and the gods of SyriaAram, and the gods of Sidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the childrensons of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines; andthus they forsook Jehovah, the Lord and serveddid himnot notserve Him.
10:7 And the anger of Jehovahthe wasLord kindledburned against Israel, and heHe sold them into the handhands of the Philistines, and into the handhands of the childrensons of Ammon.
10:8 And they vexedafflicted and oppressedcrushed the childrensons of Israel that year:; for eighteen years oppressed they afflicted all the childrensons of Israel thatwho were beyond the Jordan in Gilead in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.
10:9 And the childrensons of Ammon passedcrossed over the Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim;, so that Israel was soregreatly distressed.
10:10 AndThen the childrensons of Israel cried untoout Jehovahto the Lord, saying, We have sinned against theeThee, evenfor becauseindeed, we have forsaken our God, and have served the BaalimBaals.
10:11 And Jehovahthe Lord said untoto the childrensons of Israel, Did I not Ideliver save you from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the childrensons of Ammon, and from the Philistines?
10:12 TheAlso when the Sidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, didoppressed oppressyou, you; andcried yeout criedto unto meMe, and I saveddelivered you outfrom of their handhands.
10:13 Yet yeyou have forsaken me,Me and served other gods:; whereforetherefore I will savedeliver you no more.
10:14 Go and cry untoout to the gods which yeyou have chosen; let them savedeliver you in the time of your distress.
10:15 And the childrensons of Israel said untoto Jehovahthe Lord, We have sinned:, do thouto unto us whatsoeverwhatever seemethseems good untoto theeThee; only please deliver us, we pray thee, this day.
10:16 AndSo they put away the foreign gods from among them, and served Jehovahthe Lord; and hisHe soulcould wasbear grieved for the misery of Israel no longer.
10:17 Then the childrensons of Ammon were gathered togethersummoned, and encampedthey camped in Gilead. And the childrensons of Israel assembledgathered themselves together, and encampedcamped in Mizpah.
10:18 And the people, the princesleaders of Gilead, said to one to another, WhatWho man is hethe thatman who will begin to fight against the childrensons of Ammon? heHe shall bebecome head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.
11:1 Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mightyvaliant man of valorwarrior, andbut he was the son of a harlot:. andAnd Gilead begatwas the father of Jephthah.
11:2 And Gileads wife barebore him sons; and when his wifes sons grew up, they drove Jephthah out Jephthah, and said untoto him, ThouYou shaltshall not inherithave an inheritance in our fathers house;, for thouyou artare the son of another woman.
11:3 ThenSo Jephthah fled from his brethren, brothers and dweltlived in the land of Tob:; and thereworthless werefellows gathered vainthemselves fellowsabout to Jephthah, and they went out with him.
11:4 And it came toabout pass after a while, that the childrensons of Ammon madefought war against Israel.
11:5 And it washappened so, that, when the childrensons of Ammon madefought war against Israel, that the elders of Gilead went to fetchget Jephthah outfrom of the land of Tob;
11:6 and they said untoto Jephthah, Come and be our chief, that we may fight withagainst the childrensons of Ammon.
11:7 AndThen Jephthah said untoto the elders of Gilead, Did you not ye hate me, and drive me outfrom of my fathers house? andSo why arehave yeyou come untoto me now when yeyou are in distresstrouble?
11:8 And the elders of Gilead said untoto Jephthah, ThereforeFor arethis reason we turnedhave againnow returned to thee nowyou, that thouyou mayestmay go with us, and fight with the childrensons of Ammon; and thoubecome shalt be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.
11:9 AndSo Jephthah said untoto the elders of Gilead, If yeyou bringtake me homeback again to fight withagainst the childrensons of Ammon, and Jehovahthe deliverLord gives them beforeup to me, shallwill I bebecome your head?
11:10 And the elders of Gilead said untoto Jephthah, JehovahThe shallLord beis witness between us; surely accordingwe towill thydo wordas soyou willhave we dosaid.
11:11 Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and chief over them:; and Jephthah spakespoke all his words before Jehovahthe inLord at Mizpah.
11:12 AndNow Jephthah sent messengers untoto the king of the childrensons of Ammon, saying, What hastis thoubetween toyou doand with me, that thouyou arthave come untoto me to fight against my land?
11:13 And the king of the childrensons of Ammon answeredsaid untoto the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land, when hethey came up outfrom of Egypt, from the Arnon evenas untofar as the Jabbok, and unto the Jordan:; now therefore, restorereturn thosethem landspeaceably again peaceablynow.
11:14 AndBut Jephthah sent messengers again untoto the king of the childrensons of Ammon;,
11:15 and hethey said untoto him, Thus saithsays Jephthah:, Israel tookdid not take away the land of Moab, nor the land of the childrensons of Ammon;.
11:16 butFor when they came up from Egypt, and Israel went through the wilderness untoto the Red Sea, and came to Kadesh;,
11:17 then Israel sent messengers untoto the king of Edom, saying, LetPlease me,let Ius pray thee, pass through thyyour land;, but the king of Edom hearkenedwould not listen. And inthey likealso manner he sent untoto the king of Moab;, but he would not: andconsent. So Israel aboderemained inat Kadesh.
11:18 Then they went through the wilderness, and went around the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came byto the east side of the land of Moab, and they encampedcamped onbeyond the other side of the Arnon; but they camedid not withinenter the borderterritory of Moab, for the Arnon was the border of Moab.
11:19 And Israel sent messengers untoto Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon;, and Israel said untoto him, LetPlease let us pass, we pray thee, through thyyour land untoto myour place.
11:20 But Sihon trusteddid not trust Israel to pass through his borderterritory; butso Sihon gathered all his people together, and encampedcamped in Jahaz, and fought againstwith Israel.
11:21 And Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel, deliveredgave Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smotedefeated them:; so Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.
11:22 AndSo they possessed all the borderterritory of the Amorites, from the Arnon evenas untofar as the Jabbok, and from the wilderness evenas untofar as the Jordan.
11:23 SoSince now Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel, hathdrove dispossessedout the Amorites from before hisHis people Israel, andare shouldestyou thouthen to possess themit?
11:24 WiltDo you not thou possess thatwhat which Chemosh thyyour god givethgives theeyou to possess? So whomsoeverwhatever Jehovahthe Lord our God hathhas dispossesseddriven fromout before us, themwe will wepossess possessit.
11:25 And now artare thouyou anythingany better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? didDid he ever strive againstwith Israel, or did he ever fight against them?
11:26 While Israel dweltlived in Heshbon and its townsvillages, and in Aroer and its townsvillages, and in all the cities that are alongon by the sidebanks of the Arnon, three hundred years;, whereforewhy did yeyou not recover them within that time?
11:27 I therefore have not sinned against theeyou, but thouyou doestare doing me wrong toby making war against me:; Jehovahmay the Lord, the Judge, be judge thistoday day between the childrensons of Israel and the childrensons of Ammon.
11:28 HowbeitBut the king of the childrensons of Ammon hearkeneddisregarded not unto the wordsmessage ofwhich Jephthah which he sent him.
11:29 ThenNow the Spirit of Jehovahthe Lord came upon Jephthah, andso that he passed overthrough Gilead and Manasseh,; andthen he passed overthrough MizpehMizpah of Gilead, and from MizpehMizpah of Gilead he passedwent overon untoto the childrensons of Ammon.
11:30 And Jephthah vowedmade a vow untoto Jehovah, the Lord and said, If thouThou wilt indeed delivergive the childrensons of Ammon into my hand,
11:31 then it shall be, that whatsoeverwhatever comethcomes forthout fromof the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the childrensons of Ammon, it shall be Jehovahsthe Lords, and I will offer it up foras a burnt offering.
11:32 So Jephthah passedcrossed over untoto the childrensons of Ammon to fight against them; and Jehovahthe deliveredLord gave them into his hand.
11:33 And he smotestruck them with a very great slaughter from Aroer untilto thouthe comeentrance toof Minnith, even twenty cities, and untoas Abelfar cheramim,as withAbel a very great slaughterkeramim. So the childrensons of Ammon were subdued before the childrensons of Israel.
11:34 AndWhen Jephthah came to Mizpah unto his house; andat Mizpah, behold, his daughter camewas coming out to meet him with timbrelstambourines and with dances:dancing. andNow she was his one and only child; besides her he had neither son nor daughter.
11:35 And it came toabout pass, when he saw her, that he renttore his clothes, and said, Alas, my daughter! thouYou hasthave brought me very low, and thouyou artare oneamong ofthose themwho that trouble me; for I have openedgiven my mouthword untoto Jehovahthe Lord, and I cannot gotake it back.
11:36 AndSo she said untoto him, My father, thouyou hasthave openedgiven thyyour mouthword untoto Jehovahthe Lord; do untoto me accordingas toyou thathave which hath proceeded out of thy mouthsaid, forasmuchsince asthe JehovahLord hathhas takenavenged vengeanceyou forof theeyour on thine enemies, even on the childrensons of Ammon.
11:37 And she said untoto her father, Let this thing be done for me:; let me alone two months, that I may depart and go downto upon the mountains, and bewailweep because of my virginity, I and my companions.
11:38 AndThen he said, Go. AndSo he sent her away for two months:; and she departed, left shewith and her companions, and bewailedwept heron virginitythe uponmountains thebecause mountainsof her virginity.
11:39 And it came toabout pass at the end of two months, that she returned untoto her father, who did withto her according to histhe vow which he had vowed:made; and she knewhad notno relations with a man. AndThus it wasbecame a custom in Israel,
11:40 that the daughters of Israel went yearly to celebratecommemorate the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in athe year.
12:1 AndThen the men of Ephraim were gathered togethersummoned, and passedthey northward;crossed to Zaphon and they said untoto Jephthah, WhereforeWhy passedstdid thouyou cross over to fight against the childrensons of Ammon, andwithout didstcalling not call us to go with theeyou? weWe will burn thyyour house upondown theeon with fireyou.
12:2 And Jephthah said untoto them, I and my people were at great strife with the childrensons of Ammon; and when I called you, yeyou saveddid me not outdeliver ofme from their hand.
12:3 And when I saw that yeyou savedwould not deliver me not, I puttook my life in my hand, hands and passedcrossed over against the childrensons of Ammon, and Jehovahthe deliveredLord gave them into my hand:. whereforeWhy then arehave yeyou come up untoto me this day, to fight against me?
12:4 Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead smotedefeated Ephraim, because they said, YeYou are fugitives of Ephraim, yeO Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim, and in the midst of Manasseh.
12:5 And the Gileadites tookcaptured the fords of the Jordan againstopposite the EphraimitesEphraim. And it washappened so, that, when any of the fugitives of Ephraim said, Let me gocross over, the men of Gilead saidwould untosay to him, ArtAre thouyou an Ephraimite? If he said, Nay;No,
12:6 then said they untowould say to him, Say now, Shibboleth;. andBut he said, Sibboleth;, for he could not frame to pronounce it right:correctly. thenThen they laidseized hold on him, and slew him at the fords of the Jordan. AndThus there fell at that time 42,000 of Ephraim forty and two thousand.
12:7 And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, died and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.
12:8 AndNow after him Ibzan of BethBethlehem lehem judged Israel after him.
12:9 And he had thirty sons;, and thirty daughters whom he sentgave abroadin marriage outside the family, and thirty daughters he brought in thirty daughters from abroadoutside for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.
12:10 AndThen Ibzan died, and was buried atin Beth lehemBethlehem.
12:11 AndNow after him Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel after him; and he judged Israel ten years.
12:12 AndThen Elon the Zebulunite died, and was buried inat Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.
12:13 AndNow after him Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel after him.
12:14 And he had forty sons and thirty sonsgrandsons sons, who that rode on threescoreseventy anddonkeys; ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.
12:15 AndThen Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried inat Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.
13:1 AndNow the childrensons of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah;the andLord, Jehovahso deliveredthat the Lord gave them into the handhands of the Philistines forty years.
13:2 And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and barehad notborne no children.
13:3 AndThen the angel of Jehovahthe Lord appeared untoto the woman, and said untoto her, Behold now, thouyou artare barren, and bearesthave not;borne no children, but thouyou shaltshall conceive, and beargive birth to a son.
13:4 Now therefore beware, Ibe praycareful thee, not andto drink no wine noror strong drink, andnor eat not any unclean thing:.
13:5 for,For lobehold, thouyou shaltshall conceive, and beargive birth to a son;, and no razor shall come upon his head;, for the childboy shall be a Nazirite untoto God from the womb:; and he shall begin to savedeliver Israel outfrom of the handhands of the Philistines.
13:6 Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came untoto me, and his countenanceappearance was like the countenanceappearance of the angel of God, very terrible;awesome. andAnd I askeddid not ask him notwhere whence he wascame from, neithernor tolddid he tell me his name:.
13:7 butBut he said untoto me, Behold, thouyou shaltshall conceive, and beargive birth to a son;, and now you shall not drink no wine noror strong drink, andnor eat not any unclean thing;, for the childboy shall be a Nazirite untoto God from the womb to the day of his death.
13:8 Then Manoah entreated Jehovah, the Lord and said, Oh,O Lord, Iplease pray thee, let the man of God whom thouThou didsthast sendsent come to us again untothat us,he andmay teach us what weto shall do untofor the childboy thatwho shallis to be born.
13:9 And God hearkenedlistened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again untoto the woman as she satwas sitting in the field:, but Manoah her husband was not with her.
13:10 AndSo the woman maderan haste, quickly and ran, and told her husband, and said unto him, Behold, the man hathwho appearedcame untothe me,other thatday camehas untoappeared to me the other day.
13:11 AndThen Manoah arose, and wentfollowed after his wife, and when he came to the man, andhe said untoto him, ArtAre thouyou the man thatwho spakestspoke untoto the woman? And he said, I am.
13:12 And Manoah said, Now letwhen thyyour words come to pass:, what shall be the orderingboys mode of thelife child, and howhis shall we do unto himvocation?
13:13 AndSo the angel of Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Manoah, OfLet allthe thatwoman Ipay saidattention untoto theall womanthat letI her bewaresaid.
13:14 She mayshould not eat of anything that comethcomes offrom the vine, neithernor let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing; let her observe all that I commanded her let her observe.
13:15 AndThen Manoah said untoto the angel of Jehovahthe Lord, IPlease pray thee, let us detain thee, you so that we may makeprepare ready a kid for theeyou.
13:16 And the angel of Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Manoah, Though thouyou detain me, I will not eat ofyour thyfood, bread;but and if thouyou wiltprepare make ready a burnt offering, thouthen must offer it untoto Jehovahthe Lord. For Manoah knewdid not know that he was the angel of Jehovahthe Lord.
13:17 And Manoah said untoto the angel of Jehovahthe Lord, What is thyyour name, so that, when thyyour words come to pass, we may dohonor thee honoryou?
13:18 AndBut the angel of Jehovahthe Lord said untoto him, WhereforeWhy askestdo thouyou afterask my name, seeing it is wonderful?
13:19 So Manoah took the kid with the mealgrain offering, and offered it uponon the rock untoto Jehovah:the Lord, and theHe angelperformed didwonders wondrously, while and Manoah and his wife looked on.
13:20 For it came toabout pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar toward heaven, that the angel of Jehovahthe Lord ascended in the flame of the altar:. andWhen Manoah and his wife lookedsaw on;this, and they fell on their faces to the ground.
13:21 ButNow the angel of Jehovahthe didLord appeared no more appear to Manoah or to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was the angel of Jehovahthe Lord.
13:22 AndSo Manoah said untoto his wife, We shall surely die, becausefor we have seen God.
13:23 But his wife said untoto him, If Jehovahthe wereLord pleasedhad desired to kill us, heHe would not have receivedaccepted a burnt offering and a mealgrain offering atfrom our handhands, neithernor would heHe have showedshown us all these things, nor would atHe thishave timelet haveus toldhear such things aslike thesethis at this time.
13:24 AndThen the woman baregave birth to a son, and callednamed hishim name Samson:; and the child grew, up and Jehovahthe Lord blessed him.
13:25 And the Spirit of Jehovahthe Lord began to movestir him in Mahaneh dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.
14:1 AndThen Samson went down to Timnah, and saw a woman in Timnah, one of the daughters of the Philistines.
14:2 AndSo he came up,back and told his father and his mother, and said, I havesaw seen a woman in Timnah, one of the daughters of the Philistines:; now therefore, get her for me toas a wife.
14:3 Then his father and his mother said untoto him, Is there neverno a woman among the daughters of thyyour brethrenrelatives, or among all myour people, that thouyou goestgo to take a wife offrom the uncircumcised Philistines? AndBut Samson said untoto his father, Get her for me;, for she pleasethlooks good to me well.
14:4 ButHowever, his father and his mother knewdid not know that it was of Jehovah;the Lord, for heHe soughtwas seeking an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines hadwere ruleruling over Israel.
14:5 Then Samson went Samson down, andto Timnah with his father and his mother, to Timnah, and came toas far as the vineyards of Timnah:; and, behold, a young lion roaredcame againstroaring toward him.
14:6 And the Spirit of Jehovahthe Lord came mightily upon him mightily, andso that he renttore him as heone wouldtears have rent a kid; andthough he had nothing in his hand:; but he tolddid not tell his father or his mother what he had done.
14:7 AndSo he went down, and talked withto the woman,; and she pleasedlooked good to Samson well.
14:8 AndWhen after a while he returned later to take her;, and he turned aside to seelook at the carcass of the lion:; and, behold, there was a swarm of bees and honey were in the body of the lion, and honey.
14:9 AndSo he tookscraped itthe honey into his hands, and went on, eating as he went;. andWhen he came to his father and mother, andhe gave untosome to them, and they didate eat:it; but he tolddid not tell them not that he had takenscraped the honey out of the body of the lion.
14:10 AndThen his father went down untoto the woman:; and Samson made there a feast; there, for so used the young men tocustomarily dodid this.
14:11 And it came toabout pass, when they saw him, that they brought thirty companions to be with him.
14:12 AndThen Samson said untoto them, Let me now putpropound forth a riddle untoto you:; if yeyou canwill declareindeed tell it untoto me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty linen garmentswraps and thirty changes of raiment;clothes.
14:13 butBut if yeyou cannotare declareunable itto untotell me, then you shall ye give me thirty linen garmentswraps and thirty changes of raimentclothes. And they said untoto him, PutPropound forthyour thy riddle, that we may hear it.
14:14 AndSo he said untoto them, Out of the eater came forthsomething foodto eat, And out of the strong came forthsomething sweetnesssweet. AndBut they could not tell the riddle in three days declare the riddle.
14:15 AndThen it came toabout pass on the seventhfourth day, that they said untoto Samsons wife, Entice thyyour husband, that he may declaretell unto us the riddle, lest we burn theeyou and thyyour fathers house with fire:. haveHave yeyou calledinvited us to impoverish us? isIs itthis not so?
14:16 And Samsons wife wept before him, and said, ThouYou dostonly but hate me, and lovestyou medo not: thoulove hastme; putyou forthhave propounded a riddle untoto the childrensons of my people, and hasthave not told it to me. And he said untoto her, Behold, I have not told it to my father noror my mother,; andso shallshould I tell theeyou?
14:17 AndHowever she wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted:. andAnd it came toabout pass on the seventh day, that he told her, because she pressed him sore;so andhard. sheShe then told the riddle to the childrensons of her people.
14:18 AndSo the men of the city said untoto him on the seventh day before the sun went down, What is sweeter than honey? andAnd what is stronger than a lion? And he said untoto them, If yeyou had not plowed with my heifer, YeYou hadwould not have found out my riddle.
14:19 AndThen the Spirit of Jehovahthe Lord came mightily upon him mightily, and he went down to Ashkelon, and smotekilled thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave the changes of raimentclothes untoto themthose thatwho declaredtold the riddle. And his anger was kindledburned, and he went up to his fathers house.
14:20 But Samsons wife was given to his companion, whomwho he had usedbeen as his friend.
15:1 But it came to pass after a while, in the time of wheat harvest, it came about that Samson visited his wife with a kid;young goat, and he said, I will go in to my wife intoin theher chamberroom. But her father woulddid not sufferlet him to go inenter.
15:2 And her father said, I verilyreally thought that thouyou hadst utterly hated her intensely; thereforeso I gave her to thyyour companion:. isIs not her younger sister fairermore beautiful than she? takePlease let her, Ibe prayyours thee, instead of her.
15:3 And Samson then said untoto them, This time I shall I be blameless in regard ofto the Philistines, when I do them a mischiefharm.
15:4 And Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took firebrandstorches, and turned the foxes tail to tail, and put aone firebrandtorch in the midstmiddle between every two tails.
15:5 AndWhen when he had set thefire brandsto onthe firetorches, he letreleased themthe gofoxes into the standing grain of the Philistines, andthus burntburning up both the shocks and the standing grain, andalong alsowith the oliveyardsvineyards and groves.
15:6 Then the Philistines said, Who hathdid done this? And they said, Samson, the son in law of the Timnite, because he hathtook taken his wife, and givengave her to his companion. AndSo the Philistines came up, and burntburned her and her father with fire.
15:7 And Samson said untoto them, IfSince yeyou doact afterlike this manner, surely I will besurely avengedtake ofrevenge on you, andbut after that I will ceasequit.
15:8 And he smotestruck them hipruthlessly and thigh with a great slaughter:; and he went down and dweltlived in the cleft of the rock of Etam.
15:9 Then the Philistines went up, and encampedcamped in Judah, and spread themselvesout in Lehi.
15:10 And the men of Judah said, Why arehave yeyou come up against us? And they said, ToWe have come up to bind Samson arein weorder come up, to do to him as he hathdid done to us.
15:11 Then three3,000 thousand men of Judah went down to the cleft of the rock of Etam, and said to Samson, KnowestDo thouyou not know that the Philistines are rulers over us? whatWhat then is this that thouyou hasthave done untoto us? And he said untoto them, As they did untoto me, so I have I done untoto them.
15:12 And they said untoto him, We arehave come down to bind thee, you so that we may delivergive theeyou into the handhands of the Philistines. And Samson said untoto them, Swear untoto me, that yeyou will not fallkill upon me yourselves.
15:13 AndSo they spakesaid untoto him, sayingNo, No; but we will bind theeyou fast, and delivergive theeyou into their hand:hands; butyet surely we will not kill theeyou. AndThen they bound him with two new ropes, and brought him up from the rock.
15:14 When he came untoto Lehi, the Philistines shouted as they met him:. andAnd the Spirit of Jehovahthe Lord came mightily upon him, andmightily so that the ropes that were uponon his arms becamewere as flax that wasis burntburned with fire, and his bandsbonds dropped from off his hands.
15:15 And he found a fresh jawbone of ana assdonkey, andso puthe forthreached hisout hand, and took it, and smotekilled a thousand men therewithwith it.
15:16 AndThen Samson said, With the jawbone of ana assdonkey, heapsHeaps upon heaps, With the jawbone of ana assdonkey I have Ikilled smitten a thousand men.
15:17 And it came toabout pass, when he had madefinished an end of speaking, that he castthrew away the jawbone outfrom of his hand; and he named that place was called Ramath lehi.
15:18 AndThen he wasbecame sorevery athirstthirsty, and he called onto Jehovah, the Lord and said, Thou hast given this great deliverance by the hand of thyThy servant;, and now shall I die forof thirst, and fall into the handhands of the uncircumcised.?
15:19 But God clavesplit the hollow place that is in Lehi, andso therethat water came waterout thereout;of andit. whenWhen he had drunkdrank, his spiritstrength camereturned again, and he revived:. whereforeTherefore, thehe namenamed thereofit was called En hakkore, which is in Lehi, untoto this day.
15:20 AndSo he judged Israel twenty years in the days of the Philistines twenty years.
16:1 AndNow Samson went to Gaza, and saw there a harlot there, and went in untoto her.
16:2 AndWhen it was told to the Gazites, saying, Samson ishas come hither.here, And they compassedsurrounded himthe in,place and laidlay in wait for him all night inat the gate of the city,. andAnd werethey quietkept silent all the night, saying, Let beus tillwait until the morning light, then we will kill him.
16:3 AndNow Samson lay tilluntil midnight, and arose at midnight, he arose and laidtook hold of the doors of the city gate of the city, and the two posts, and pluckedpulled them up, baralong andwith all,the andbars; then he put them uponon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of the mountain thatwhich is beforeopposite Hebron.
16:4 AndAfter this it came toabout pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.
16:5 And the Lords of the Philistines came up untoto her, and said untoto her, Entice him, and see whereinwhere his great strength lieth, lies and byhow what means we may prevailoverpower against him, that we may bind him to afflict him:. andThen we will each give theeyou every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver.
16:6 AndSo Delilah said to Samson, TellPlease tell me, Iwhere prayyour thee, wherein thy great strength lieth,is and wherewithhow thouyou mightestmay be bound to afflict theeyou.
16:7 And Samson said untoto her, If they bind me with seven greenfresh withescords that werehave nevernot been dried, then I shall I become weak, and be aslike anotherany other man.
16:8 Then the Lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven greenfresh withescords whichthat had not been dried, and she bound him with them.
16:9 Now she had liersmen lying in wait abiding in thean inner chamberroom. And she said untoto him, The Philistines are upon theeyou, Samson.! AndBut he brakesnapped the withes, cords as a string of tow issnaps broken when it touchethtouches the fire. So his strength was not knowndiscovered.
16:10 AndThen Delilah said untoto Samson, Behold, thouyou hasthave mockeddeceived me, and told me lies:; now please tell me, Ihow prayyou thee, may wherewith thou mightest be bound.
16:11 And he said untoto her, If they only bind me tightly with new ropes wherewithwhich nohave worknot hath been doneused, then I shall I become weak, and be aslike anotherany other man.
16:12 So Delilah took new ropes, and bound him therewith, with them and said untoto him, The Philistines are upon theeyou, Samson.! AndFor the liersmen were lying in wait were abiding in the inner chamberroom. AndBut he brakesnapped themthe offropes from his arms like a thread.
16:13 AndThen Delilah said untoto Samson, HithertoUp thouto hastnow mockedyou have deceived me, and told me lies:; tell me wherewithhow thouyou mightestmay be bound. And he said untoto her, If thouyou weavestweave the seven locks of my headhair with the web and fasten it with a pin, then I shall become weak and be like any other man.
16:14 So while he slept, Delilah took the seven locks of his hair and wove them into the web. And she fastened it with the pin, and said untoto him, The Philistines are upon theeyou, Samson.! AndBut he awakedawoke outfrom of his sleep, and pluckedpulled awayout the pin of the beam, loom and the web.
16:15 AndThen she said untoto him, How canstcan thouyou say, I love theeyou, when thyyour heart is not with me? thouYou hasthave mockeddeceived me these three times, and hasthave not told me whereinwhere thyyour great strength liethis.
16:16 And it came toabout pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, that his soul was vexedannoyed untoto death.
16:17 AndSo he told her all that was in his heart, and said untoto her, ThereA hathrazor nothas never come aon razor upon my head;, for I have been a Nazirite untoto God from my mothers womb:. ifIf I beam shavenshaved, then my strength will goleave from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.
16:18 AndWhen when Delilah saw that he had told her all that was in his heart, she sent and called for the Lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up thisonce oncemore, for he hathhas told me all that is in his heart. Then the Lords of the Philistines came up untoto her, and brought the money in their handhands.
16:19 And she made him sleep uponon her knees;, and she called for a man, and shavedhad him shave off the seven locks of his head;hair. andThen she began to afflict him, and his strength wentleft from him.
16:20 And she said, The Philistines are upon theeyou, Samson.! And he awoke outfrom of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times, and shake myself free. But he knewdid not know that Jehovahthe wasLord had departed from him.
16:21 AndThen the Philistines laidseized hold on him, and putgouged out his eyes; and they brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fettersbronze ofchains, brass; and he didwas grinda grinder in the prison house.
16:22 HowbeitHowever, the hair of his head began to grow again after heit was shavenshaved off.
16:23 AndNow the Lords of the Philistines gatheredassembled them together to offer a great sacrifice untoto Dagon their god, and to rejoice;, for they said, Our god hathhas deliveredgiven Samson our enemy into our handhands.
16:24 AndWhen when the people saw him, they praised their god;, for they said, Our god hathhas deliveredgiven into our handenemy into our enemyhands, andEven the destroyer of our country, whoWho hathhas slain many of us.
16:25 AndIt itso camehappened towhen pass, they whenwere theirin heartshigh were merryspirits, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may makeamuse us sport. AndSo they called for Samson outfrom of the prison, house; and he madeentertained sport before them. And they setmade him stand between the pillars:.
16:26 andThen Samson said untoto the ladboy thatwho heldwas himholding byhis the hand, SufferLet me that I may feel the pillars whereuponon which the house restethrests, that I may lean uponagainst them.
16:27 Now the house was full of men and women;, and all the Lords of the Philistines were there;. And about 3,000 men and therewomen were uponon the roof aboutlooking threeon thousand men and women, that beheld while Samson madewas sportamusing them.
16:28 AndThen Samson called untoto Jehovah, the Lord and said, O Lord JehovahGod, please remember me, Iand prayplease thee, and strengthen me, Ijust pray thee, only this oncetime, O God, that I may be at once be avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.
16:29 And Samson tookgrasped hold of the two middle pillars uponon which the house rested, and leanedbraced uponhimself against them, the one with his right hand, and the other with his left.
16:30 And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines.! And he bowedbent himself with all his might; andso that the house fell uponon the Lords, and upon all the people thatwho were thereinin it. So the dead thatwhom he slewkilled at his death were more than theythose thatwhom he slewkilled in his life.
16:31 Then his brethrenbrothers and all thehis housefathers ofhousehold his father came down, and took him, and brought him up, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the buryingtomb place of Manoah his father. AndThus he had judged Israel twenty years.
17:1 AndNow there was a man of the hill country of Ephraim, whose name was Micah.
17:2 And he said untoto his mother, The eleven hundred pieces of silver thatwhich were taken from theeyou, about which thouyou didstuttered utter a curse, and didst also speak it in minemy earshearing, behold, the silver is with me; I took it. And his mother said, Blessed be my son ofby Jehovahthe Lord.
17:3 AndHe hethen restoredreturned the eleven hundred pieces of silver to his mother;, and his mother said, I verilywholly dedicate the silver unto Jehovah from my hand to the Lord for my son, to make a graven image and a molten image:; now therefore, I will restorereturn itthem untoto theeyou.
17:4 AndSo when he restoredreturned the moneysilver untoto his mother, his mother took two hundred pieces of silver, and gave them to the founder, silversmith who made thereofthem into a graven image and a molten image:, and itthey waswere in the house of Micah.
17:5 And the man Micah had a houseshrine of gods, and he made an ephod, and teraphim, household idols and consecrated one of his sons, whothat becamehe might become his priest.
17:6 In those days there was no king in Israel:; every man did thatwhat which was right in his own eyes.
17:7 AndNow there was a young man outfrom ofBethlehem Bethin lehem judahJudah, of the family of Judah, who was a Levite; and he sojournedwas staying there.
17:8 AndThen the man departed outfrom of the city, outfrom ofBethlehem Bethin lehem judahJudah, to sojournstay wherewherever he couldmight find a place,; and as he made his journey, he came to the hill country of Ephraim to the house of Micah, as he journeyed.
17:9 And Micah said untoto him, WhenceWhere comestdo thouyou come from? And he said untoto him, I am a Levite offrom BethBethlehem lehemin judahJudah, and I goam going to sojournstay wherewherever I may find a place.
17:10 And Micah then said untoto him, Dwell with me, and be unto me a father and a priest to me, and I will give theeyou ten pieces of silver bya the year, and a suit of apparelclothes, and thyyour victualsmaintenance. So the Levite went in.
17:11 And the Levite wasagreed content to dwelllive with the man; and the young man wasbecame untoto him aslike one of his sons.
17:12 AndSo Micah consecrated the Levite, and the young man became his priest, and waslived in the house of Micah.
17:13 Then Micah said Micah, Now I know I that Jehovahthe Lord will doprosper me good, seeing I have a Levite toas my priest.
18:1 In those days there was no king inof Israel:; and in those days the tribe of the Danites soughtwas themseeking an inheritance for themselves to dwelllive in;, for untountil that day theiran inheritance had not fallenbeen untoallotted to them as a possession among the tribes of Israel.
18:2 AndSo the childrensons of Dan sent offrom their family five men fromout of their whole number, valiant men of valor, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land, and to search it; and they said untoto them, Go, search the land. And they came to the hill country of Ephraim, untoto the house of Micah, and lodged there.
18:3 When they were bynear the house of Micah, they knewrecognized the voice of the young man, the Levite; and they turned aside thitherthere, and said untoto him, Who brought theeyou hitherhere? andAnd what doestare thouyou doing in this place? andAnd what hastdo thouyou have here?
18:4 And he said untoto them, Thus and thusso hathhas Micah dealtdone withto me, and he hathhas hired me, and I amhave become his priest.
18:5 And they said untoto him, AskInquire counsel, we pray thee, of God, please, that we may know whether our way on which we goare shallgoing will be prosperous.
18:6 And the priest said untoto them, Go in peace:; beforeyour Jehovahway isin yourwhich wayyou whereinare yegoing gohas the Lords approval.
18:7 Then the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people thatwho were therein,in howit theyliving dwelt in security, after the manner of the Sidonians, quiet and secure; for there was noneno inruler thehumiliating land, possessing authority, that might put them tofor shameanything in anythingthe land, and they were far from the Sidonians, and had no dealings with any mananyone.
18:8 AndWhen they came untoback to their brethrenbrothers toat Zorah and Eshtaol:, and their brethrenbrothers said untoto them, What saydo yeyou report?
18:9 And they said, Arise, and let us go up against them; for we have seen the land, and, behold, it is very good:. andAnd arewill yeyou sit still? beDo not slothfuldelay to go, and to enter, in to possess the land.
18:10 When yeyou goenter, yeyou shall come untoto a secure people secure, with anda thespacious land is large; for God hathhas given it into your hand, a place where there is no wantlack of anything that is inon the earth.
18:11 AndThen there set forth from thence of the family of the Danites, outfrom of Zorah and outfrom of Eshtaol, six hundred men girtarmed with weapons of war set out.
18:12 And they went up, and encampedcamped inat Kiriath jearim, in Judah:. whereforeTherefore they called that place MahanehMahanehdan dan,to unto this day; behold, it is behindwest of Kiriath jearim.
18:13 And they passed thencefrom untothere to the hill country of Ephraim, and came untoto the house of Micah.
18:14 Then answered the five men thatwho went to spy out the country of Laish, answered and said untoto their brethrenkinsmen, Do yeyou know that there isare in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, household idols and a graven image, and a molten image? nowNow therefore, consider what yeyou haveshould to do.
18:15 And they turned aside thither, there and came to the house of the young man, the Levite, evento unto the house of Micah, and asked him of his welfare.
18:16 And the six hundred men girtarmed with their weapons of war, who were of the childrensons of Dan, stood by the entrance of the gate.
18:17 AndNow the five men thatwho went to spy out the land went up, and cameentered in thitherthere, and took the graven image, and the ephod, and thehousehold teraphim, idols and the molten image:, andwhile the priest stood by the entrance of the gate with the six hundred men girtarmed with weapons of war.
18:18 And when these went into Micahs house, and fetchedtook the graven image, the ephod, and thehousehold teraphim, idols and the molten image, the priest said untoto them, What doare yeyou doing?
18:19 And they said untoto him, HoldBe thy peacesilent, layput thyyour hand uponover thyyour mouth, and gocome with us, and be to us a father and a priest:. isIs it better for theeyou to be a priest untoto the house of one man, or to be priest untoto a tribe and a family in Israel?
18:20 And the priests heart was glad, and he took the ephod, and thehousehold teraphim, idols and the graven image, and went inamong the midst of the people.
18:21 SoThen they turned and departed, and put the little ones and the cattlelivestock and the goodsvaluables beforein front of them.
18:22 When they werehad agone goodsome waydistance from the house of Micah, the men thatwho were in the houses near to Micahs house wereassembled gathered together, and overtook the childrensons of Dan.
18:23 And they cried untoto the childrensons of Dan., Andwho they turned theiraround faces, and said untoto Micah, What ailethis theethe matter with you, that thouyou comesthave withassembled such a companytogether?
18:24 And he said, yeYou have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and arehave gone away, and what havedo I morehave besides? andSo how thencan you say yeto unto me, What ailethis theethe matter with you?
18:25 And the childrensons of Dan said untoto him, LetDo not thylet your voice be heard among us, lest angryfierce fellowsmen fall upon you, and thouyou lose thyyour life, with the lives of thyyour household.
18:26 AndSo the childrensons of Dan went on their way:; and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back untoto his house.
18:27 AndThen they took thatwhat which Micah had made, and the priest whomwho hehad hadbelonged to him, and came untoto Laish, untoto a people quiet and secure, and smotestruck them with the edge of the sword; and they burntburned the city with fire.
18:28 And there was no delivererone to deliver them, because it was far from Sidon, and they had no dealings with anyanyone, man; and it was in the valley thatwhich liethis bynear Beth rehob. And they builtrebuilt the city, and dweltlived thereinin it.
18:29 And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born untoin Israel:; howbeithowever, the name of the city formerly was Laish at the first.
18:30 And the childrensons of Dan set up for themselves the graven image; and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of MosesManasseh, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of the Danites until the day of the captivity of the land.
18:31 So they set them up for themselves Micahs graven image which he had made, all the time that the house of God was inat Shiloh.
19:1 AndNow it came toabout pass in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that there was a certain Levite sojourningstaying onin the fartherremote sidepart of the hill country of Ephraim, who took to him a concubine outfor ofhimself Bethfrom lehemBethlehem judahin Judah.
19:2 AndBut his concubine played the harlot against him, and she went away from him untoto her fathers house toin BethBethlehem lehemin judahJudah, and was there thefor spacea period of four months.
19:3 AndThen her husband arose, and went after her, to speak kindlytenderly untoto her, in order to bring her againback, havingtaking with him his servant with him, and a couplepair of asses:donkeys. andSo she brought him into her fathers house;, and when the girls father of the damsel saw him, he rejoicedwas glad to meet him.
19:4 And his father in law, the damselsgirls father, retaineddetained him; and he aboderemained with him three days:. soSo they didate eat and drink, drank and lodged there.
19:5 AndNow it came toabout pass on the fourth day, that they arosegot up early in the morning, and he roseprepared up to depart:go; and the damselsgirls father said untoto his son in law, StrengthenSustain thyyourself heart with a morselpiece of bread, and afterward yeyou shallmay go your way.
19:6 So theyboth of them sat down, and didate eat and drink, drank both of them together:; and the damselsgirls father said untoto the man, BePlease pleased,be Iwilling pray thee, to tarryspend allthe night, and let thyyour heart be merry.
19:7 AndThen the man rosearose up to depart;go, but his father in law urged him, andso that he lodgedspent the night there again.
19:8 And on the fifth day he arose to go early in the morning, on the fifth day to depart; and the damselsgirls father said, StrengthenPlease thysustain heartyourself, I pray thee, and tarrywait ye until the day declinethafternoon; andso they did eat, both of them ate.
19:9 AndWhen when the man rosearose up to depart,go he,along andwith his concubine, and his servant, his father in law, the damselsgirls father, said untoto him, Behold, now, the day drawethhas towarddrawn evening,to Ia prayclose; youplease tarryspend allthe night:. beholdLo, the day growethis coming to an end,; lodgespend the night here, that thyyour heart may be merry;. andThen totomorrow morrowyou getmay youarise early onfor your way, journey so that thouyou mayestmay go home.
19:10 But the man wouldwas not tarrywilling thatto spend the night, butso he rosearose up and departed, and came overto againsta place opposite Jebus thethat same is, Jerusalem:. andAnd there were with him a couplepair of assessaddled saddleddonkeys; his concubine also was with him.
19:11 When they were bynear Jebus, the day was faralmost spentgone; and the servant said untoto his master, Come,Please I pray theecome, and let us turn aside into this city of the Jebusites, and lodgespend the night in it.
19:12 AndHowever, his master said untoto him, We will not turn aside into the city of aforeigners foreigner, who thatare is not of the childrensons of Israel; but we will passgo overon toas far as Gibeah.
19:13 And he said untoto his servant, Come and let us drawapproach near to one of these places; and we will lodgespend the night in Gibeah, or in Ramah.
19:14 So they passed onalong and went their way;, and the sun wentset downon upon them near to Gibeah, which belongethbelongs to Benjamin.
19:15 And they turned aside thither, there in order to goenter inand to lodge in Gibeah:. andWhen hethey went inentered, andthey sat him down in the streetopen square of the city;, for there was no manone that took them into his house to lodgespend the night.
19:16 And,Then behold, there came an old man fromwas hiscoming work out of the field from his work at even:evening. nowNow the man was offrom the hill country of Ephraim, and he sojournedwas staying in Gibeah;, but the men of the place were Benjamites.
19:17 And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the wayfaringtraveler man in the streetopen square of the city; and the old man said, WhitherWhere goestare thou?you going, and whencewhere comestdo thouyou come from?
19:18 And he said untoto him, We are passing from BethBethlehem lehemin judahJudah untoto the fartherremote sidepart of the hill country of Ephraim;, fromfor thenceI am Ifrom there, and I went to BethBethlehem lehemin judah:Judah. andBut I am now going to themy house, of Jehovah; and there is no man thatwill takethtake me into his house.
19:19 Yet there is both straw and provenderfodder for our asses;donkeys, and therealso is bread and wine also for me, andyour for thy handmaidmaidservant, and for the young man thatwho is with thyyour servants:; there is no wantlack of anything.
19:20 And the old man said, Peace beto untoyou. thee;Only howsoever let allme thytake wantscare lieof uponall meyour needs; onlyhowever, lodgedo not spend the night in the streetopen square.
19:21 So he broughttook him into his house, and gave the assesdonkeys fodder;, and they washed their feet, and didate eat and drinkdrank.
19:22 AsWhile they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain baseworthless fellows, besetsurrounded the house round about, beatingpounding at the door; and they spakespoke to the masterowner of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forthout the man thatwho came into thyyour house, that we may knowhave relations with him.
19:23 AndThen the man, the masterowner of the house, went out untoto them, and said untoto them, NayNo, my brethrenfellows, Iplease pray you, do not act so wickedly; seeingsince that this man ishas come into my house, do not commit this act of folly.
19:24 Behold,Here here is my virgin daughter a virgin, and his concubine;. themPlease Ilet willme bring them out now, that andyou humblemay yeravish them, and do withto them whatwhatever seemethyou goodwish. untoBut you:do butnot untocommit thissuch manan doact notof anyfolly suchagainst follythis man.
19:25 But the men would not hearkenlisten to him:, so the man laidseized hold on his concubine, and brought her forthout untoto them;. andAnd they knewraped her, and abused her all the night until the morning:, andthen whenlet theher daygo beganat tothe spring, approach theyof let her godawn.
19:26 ThenAs came the womanday inbegan theto dawningdawn, of the day, woman came and fell down at the doordoorway of the mans house where her Lordmaster was, tilluntil itfull was lightdaylight.
19:27 AndWhen her Lordmaster rosearose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go on his way; and, then behold, the woman his concubine was fallenlying down at the doordoorway of the house, with her hands uponon the threshold.
19:28 And he said untoto her, Up,Get up and let us bego, going; but nonethere answered:was thenno answer. Then he tookplaced her upon upon the assdonkey; and the man rosearose up, and gatwent himto unto his placehome.
19:29 AndWhen when he wasentered come into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold onof his concubine, and dividedcut her in twelve pieces, limb by limb, into twelve pieces, and sent her throughout all the bordersterritory of Israel.
19:30 And it wascame so,about that all thatwho saw it said, ThereNothing waslike nothis suchhas deedever donehappened noror been seen from the day thatwhen the childrensons of Israel came up outfrom of the land of Egypt untoto this day:. considerConsider it, take counsel, and speak. up!
20:1 Then all the childrensons of Israel wentfrom Dan to Beersheba, including the land of Gilead, came out, and the congregation was assembled as one man, from Dan even to Beer sheba, with the landLord of Gilead, unto Jehovah at Mizpah.
20:2 And the chiefs of all the people, even of all the tribes of Israel, presentedtook themselvestheir stand in the assembly of the people of God, four400,000 hundredfoot thousandsoldiers footmenwho that drew the sword.
20:3 Now the childrensons of Benjamin heard that the childrensons of Israel werehad gone up to Mizpah. And the childrensons of Israel said, Tell us, how wasdid this wickedness broughttake to passplace?
20:4 AndSo the Levite, the husband of the woman thatwho was murdered, answered and said, I came intowith Gibeahmy thatconcubine belongeth to Benjamin, spend Ithe andnight myat concubine,Gibeah which belongs to lodgeBenjamin.
20:5 AndBut the men of Gibeah rose up against me, and besetsurrounded the house roundat aboutnight mebecause byof night; me. theyThey thoughtintended to havekill slainme; instead, andthey ravished my concubine theyso forced, that and she is deaddied.
20:6 And I took hold of my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the countryland of theIsraels inheritance of Israel; for they have committed lewdnessa lewd and follydisgraceful act in Israel.
20:7 Behold, yeall childrenyou sons of Israel, all of you, give here your advice and counsel here.
20:8 AndThen all the people arose as one man, saying, WeNot willone not any of us will go to his tent, neithernor will we any of us turnreturn untoto his house.
20:9 But now this is the thing which we will do to Gibeah:; we will go up against it by lot;.
20:10 andAnd we will take ten10 men out of a100 hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and a100 hundredout of a thousand1,000, and a1,000 thousand out of ten thousand10,000 to fetchsupply victualsfood for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, accordingthey tomay punish them for all the follydisgraceful acts that they have wroughtcommitted in Israel.
20:11 SoThus all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knitunited together as one man.
20:12 AndThen the tribes of Israel sent men through all the entire tribe of Benjamin, saying, What wickedness is this wickedness that ishas cometaken toplace pass among you?
20:13 Now thereforethen, deliver up the men, the baseworthless fellows, that are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death, and putremove awaythis evilwickedness from Israel. But the sons of Benjamin would not hearkenlisten to the voice of their brethrenbrothers, the childrensons of Israel.
20:14 And the childrensons of Benjamin gathered themselvesfrom together out of the cities untoto Gibeah, to go out to battle against the childrensons of Israel.
20:15 And from the childrencities of Benjamin were numbered on that day outthe sons of theBenjamin citieswere twentynumbered, and26,000 sixmen thousandwho mendraw thatthe drew sword, besides the inhabitants of Gibeah, who were numbered, seven700 hundredchoice chosen men.
20:16 AmongOut of all thisthese people there700 werechoice sevenmen hundredwere chosenleft men lefthandedhanded; everyeach one could sling stonesa stone at a hair breadth, and not miss.
20:17 AndThen the men of Israel, besides Benjamin, were numbered, four400,000 hundredmen thousandwho mendraw thatthe drew sword:; all these were men of war.
20:18 AndNow the childrensons of Israel arose, and went up to Beth elBethel, and askedinquired counsel of God;, and they said, Who shall go up first for us first to battle against the childrensons of Benjamin? AndThen Jehovahthe Lord said, Judah shall go up first.
20:19 AndSo the childrensons of Israel rosearose up in the morning, and encampedcamped against Gibeah.
20:20 And the men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin;, and the men of Israel setarrayed thefor battle in array against them at Gibeah.
20:21 AndThen the childrensons of Benjamin came forth out of Gibeah, and destroyedfelled down to the ground of the Israelites on that day twenty22,000 andmen twoof thousand menIsrael.
20:22 AndBut the people, the men of Israel, encouraged themselves, and setarrayed thefor battle again in array in the place where they sethad arrayed themselves in array the first day.
20:23 And the childrensons of Israel went up and wept before Jehovahthe Lord until even;evening, and theyinquired asked of Jehovahthe Lord, saying, Shall Iwe again draw nighnear tofor battle against the childrensons of Benjamin my brother Benjamin? And Jehovahthe Lord said, Go up against him.
20:24 AndThen the childrensons of Israel came near against the childrensons of Benjamin the second day.
20:25 And Benjamin went forthout against them outfrom of Gibeah the second day, and destroyedfelled down to the ground again 18,000 men of the childrensons of Israel again eighteen thousand men; all these drew the sword.
20:26 Then all the childrensons of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came untoto BethBethel el, and wept,; andthus satthey remained there before Jehovah, the Lord and fasted that day until even;evening. andAnd they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Jehovahthe Lord.
20:27 And the childrensons of Israel askedinquired of Jehovahthe Lord for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,
20:28 and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, theAarons son of Aaron, stood before it to minister in those days, saying, Shall I yet again go out to battle against the childrensons of Benjamin my brother Benjamin, or shall I cease? And Jehovahthe Lord said, Go up;, for totomorrow morrow I will deliver himthem into thyyour hand.
20:29 AndSo Israel set liersmen in waitambush againstaround Gibeah round about.
20:30 And the childrensons of Israel went up against the childrensons of Benjamin on the third day, and setarrayed themselves in array against Gibeah, as at other times.
20:31 And the childrensons of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city;, and they began to smitestrike and kill some of the people, as at other times, inon the highways, one of which onegoes goeth up to BethBethel el, and the other to Gibeah, and in the field, about thirty men of Israel.
20:32 And the childrensons of Benjamin said, They are smittenstruck down before us, as at the first. But the childrensons of Israel said, Let us flee, andthat we may draw them away from the city untoto the highways.
20:33 AndThen all the men of Israel rosearose upfrom out of their place, and setarrayed themselves in array at Baal tamar:; and the liersmen in wait of Israel brakein forthambush broke out of their place, even out of Maareh geba.
20:34 AndWhen there came over against Gibeah ten thousand chosenchoice men outfrom of all Israel came against Gibeah, and the battle wasbecame sorefierce; but theyBenjamin knewdid not know that evildisaster was close uponto them.
20:35 And Jehovahthe smoteLord struck Benjamin before Israel;, andso that the childrensons of Israel destroyed 25,100 men of Benjamin that day, twenty and five thousand and a hundred men: all thesewho drewdraw the sword.
20:36 So the childrensons of Benjamin saw that they were smitten;defeated. forWhen the men of Israel gave placeground to Benjamin, because they trustedrelied untoon the liersmen in waitambush whom they had set against Gibeah.,
20:37 And the liersmen in waitambush hasted, hurried and rushed uponagainst Gibeah; and the liersmen in waitambush drewalso themselvesdeployed along, and smotestruck all the city with the edge of the sword.
20:38 Now the appointed sign between the men of Israel and the liersmen in waitambush was, that they should make a great cloud of smoke rise upfrom out of the city.
20:39 AndThen the men of Israel turned in the battle, and Benjamin began to smitestrike and kill ofabout thethirty men of Israel, about thirty persons; for they said, Surely they are smittendefeated down before us, as in the first battle.
20:40 But when the cloud began to ariserise upfrom out of the city in a pillarcolumn of smoke, theBenjamin Benjamites looked behind them; and, behold, the whole ofcity thewas citygoing went up in smoke to heaven.
20:41 AndThen the men of Israel turned, and the men of Benjamin were dismayedterrified; for they saw that evildisaster was comeclose uponto them.
20:42 Therefore, they turned their backs before the men of Israel untotoward the waydirection of the wilderness;, but the battle followedovertook hard after them; andwhile theythose thatwho came out of the cities destroyed them in the midst thereofof them.
20:43 They inclosedsurrounded theBenjamin, Benjamitespursued roundthem about, without andrest chased them, and trod them down atopposite their resting place, as far as over against Gibeah toward the sunrisingeast.
20:44 AndThus there18,000 fellmen of Benjamin eighteen thousand menfell; all these were menvaliant of valorwarriors.
20:45 AndThe theyrest turned and fled toward the wilderness untoto the rock of Rimmon:, andbut they gleanedcaught 5,000 of them inon the highways five thousand men, and followedovertook hard after them untoat Gidom, and smotekilled 2,000 of them two thousand men.
20:46 So that all of Benjamin who fell that day of Benjamin were twenty25,000 and five thousand men thatwho drewdraw the sword; all these were menvaliant of valorwarriors.
20:47 But six600 hundred men turned and fled toward the wilderness untoto the rock of Rimmon, and abodethey inremained at the rock of Rimmon four months.
20:48 AndThe the men of Israel then turned againback uponagainst the childrensons of Benjamin, and smotestruck them with the edge of the sword, both the entire city, andwith the cattle, and all that they found:; moreoverthey also set on fire all the cities which they found they set on fire.
21:1 Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpah, saying, ThereNone shall not any of us shall give his daughter untoto Benjamin toin wifemarriage.
21:2 AndSo the people came to BethBethel el, and sat there tillbefore evenGod beforeuntil Godevening, and lifted up their voices, and wept sorebitterly.
21:3 And they said, Why, O JehovahLord, the God of Israel, whyhas is this come toabout pass in Israel, so that thereone tribe should be tomissing daytoday one tribe lacking in Israel?
21:4 And it came toabout passthe onnext theday morrow, that the people rosearose early, and built there an altar there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.
21:5 AndThen the childrensons of Israel said, Who is there among all the tribes of Israel thatwho camedid not come up in the assembly untoto Jehovahthe Lord? For they had madetaken a great oath concerning him thatwho camedid not come up untoto Jehovahthe toLord at Mizpah, saying, He shall surely be put to death.
21:6 And the childrensons of Israel repentedwere themsorry for Benjamin their brother, Benjamin and said, ThereOne tribe is one tribe cut off from Israel this daytoday.
21:7 HowWhat shall we do for wives for themthose thatwho remainare left, seeingsince we have sworn by Jehovahthe thatLord wenot willto not give them any of our daughters toin wivesmarriage?
21:8 And they said, What one is there of the tribes of Israel thatwho camedid not come up untoto Jehovahthe toLord at Mizpah? And, behold, thereno cameone nonehad come to the camp from Jabesh gilead to the assembly.
21:9 For when the people were numbered, behold, therenot wereone none of the inhabitants of Jabesh gilead was there.
21:10 And the congregation sent thither12,000 twelveof thousandthe menvaliant ofwarriors the valiantestthere, and commanded them, saying, Go and smitestrike the inhabitants of Jabesh gilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the little ones.
21:11 And this is the thing that yeyou shall do: yeyou shall utterly destroy every male, man and every woman thatwho hathhas lain bywith a man.
21:12 And they found among the inhabitants of Jabesh gilead four400 hundred young virgins, thatwho had not known a man by lying with him; and they brought them untoto the camp toat Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.
21:13 AndThen the whole congregation sent word and spakespoke to the childrensons of Benjamin thatwho were inat the rock of Rimmon, and proclaimed peace untoto them.
21:14 And Benjamin returned at that time;, and they gave them the women whom they had savedkept alive offrom the women of Jabesh gilead:; and yet so they sufficedwere not enough for them not.
21:15 And the people repentedwere themsorry for Benjamin, because thatthe JehovahLord had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.
21:16 Then the elders of the congregation said, HowWhat shall we do for wives for themthose thatwho remainare left, seeingsince the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?
21:17 And they said, There must be an inheritance for themthe thatsurvivors are escaped of Benjamin, that a tribe bemay not be blotted out from Israel.
21:18 HowbeitBut we maycannot not give them wives of our daughters,. forFor the childrensons of Israel had sworn, saying, Cursed beis he thatwho givethgives a wife to Benjamin.
21:19 AndSo they said, Behold, there is a feast of Jehovahthe Lord from year to year in Shiloh, which is on the north side of Beth elBethel, on the east side of the highway that goethgoes up from BethBethel el to Shechem, and on the south side of Lebonah.
21:20 And they commanded the childrensons of Benjamin, saying, Go and lie in wait in the vineyards,
21:21 and see, watch; and, behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dancetake part in the dances, then you shall come ye out of the vineyards, and catcheach of you everyshall mancatch his wife offrom the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.
21:22 And it shall become about, when their fathers or their brethrenbrothers come to complain untoto us, that we willshall say untoto them, GrantGive them graciouslyto untous usvoluntarily, because we tookdid not take for each man of themBenjamin hisa wife in battle, neithernor did yeyou give them untoto them, else you would ye now be guilty.
21:23 And the childrensons of Benjamin did so, and took them wives, according to their number, offrom themthose thatwho danced, whom they carried off:away. andAnd they went and returned untoto their inheritance, and builtrebuilt the cities, and dweltlived in them.
21:24 And the childrensons of Israel departed thencefrom there at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and theyeach one of them went out from thencethere every man to his inheritance.
21:25 In those days there was no king in Israel:; everyeveryone man did thatwhat which was right in his own eyes.
