| 1:1 |
Paul, an apostle not sent from men, neithernor through the agency of man, but through Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised himHim from the dead, |
| 1:2 |
and all the brethren thatwho are with me, untoto the churches of Galatia: |
| 1:3 |
Grace to you and peace from God theour Father, and ourthe Lord Jesus Christ, |
| 1:4 |
who gave himselfHimself for our sins, that heHe might deliver us out of this present evil worldage, according to the will of our God and Father:, |
| 1:5 |
to whom be the glory for ever and everforevermore. Amen. |
| 1:6 |
I marvelam amazed that yeyou are so quickly removingdeserting fromHim himwho that called you inby the grace of Christ, untofor a different gospel; |
| 1:7 |
which is really not another; gospel: only there are some thatwho troubleare disturbing you, and wouldwant pervertto distort the gospel of Christ. |
| 1:8 |
But even though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach untoto you anya gospel othercontrary thanto that which we have preached untoto you, let him be anathemaaccursed. |
| 1:9 |
As we have said before, so I say Iagain now again, Ifif any man preachethis untopreaching to you anya gospel othercontrary thanto that which yeyou received, let him be anathemaaccursed. |
| 1:10 |
For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? orOr am I striving to please men? ifIf I were still pleasingtrying to please men, I shouldwould not be a bond servant of Christ. |
| 1:11 |
For I makewould knownhave toyou youknow, brethren, asthat touching the gospel which was preached by me, that it is not afteraccording to man. |
| 1:12 |
For I neither didreceived I receive it from man, nor was I taught it, but itI camereceived toit me through a revelation of Jesus Christ. |
| 1:13 |
For yeyou have heard of my former manner of life in time past in the Jews religionJudaism, how thatI beyondused measureto Ipersecute persecuted the church of God beyond measure, and madetried havocto ofdestroy it:; |
| 1:14 |
and I advancedwas advancing in theJudaism Jews religion beyond many of minemy owncontemporaries age among my countrymen, being more exceedinglyextremely zealous for themy ancestral traditions of my fathers. |
| 1:15 |
But when itHe waswho thehad goodset pleasureme of Godapart, who separated me, even from my mothers womb, and called me through hisHis grace, was pleased |
| 1:16 |
to reveal hisHis Son in me, that I might preach himHim among the Gentiles;, straightway I conferreddid not immediately consult with flesh and blood:, |
| 1:17 |
neithernor wentdid I go up to Jerusalem to themthose thatwho were apostles before me:; but I went away intoto Arabia;, and againreturned Ionce returnedmore untoto Damascus. |
| 1:18 |
Then after three years later I went up to Jerusalem to visitbecome acquainted with Cephas, and tarriedstayed with him fifteen days. |
| 1:19 |
But I did not see any other of the apostles sawexcept I noneJames, save James the Lords brother. |
| 1:20 |
Now touchingin thewhat thingsI whicham Iwriting writeto unto you, behold,I assure you before God, that I lieam not lying. |
| 1:21 |
Then I camewent into the regions of Syria and Cilicia. |
| 1:22 |
And I was still unknown by facesight untoto the churches of JudaeaJudea which were in Christ:; |
| 1:23 |
but only, they onlykept heard sayhearing, He thatwho once persecuted us is now preachethpreaching the faith of which he once madetried havoc;to destroy. |
| 1:24 |
andAnd they glorifiedwere glorifying God inbecause of me. |
| 2:1 |
Then after thean spaceinterval of fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus along also with me. |
| 2:2 |
And it was because of a revelation that I went up by revelation; and I laidsubmitted beforeto them the gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privatelyI beforedid themso in private to those who were of reputereputation, lestfor byfear anythat means I shouldmight be running, or had run, in vain. |
| 2:3 |
But not even Titus who was with me, beingthough he was a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised:. |
| 2:4 |
andBut thatit was because of the false brethren privilywho broughthad in,sneaked who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, thatin theyorder mightto bring us into bondage:. |
| 2:5 |
toBut whom we gavedid placenot yield in the way of subjection, no,to notthem for even an hour;, so that the truth of the gospel might continueremain with you. |
| 2:6 |
But from those who were reputedof tohigh bereputation somewhatwhat whatsoever they were, itmakes maketh no matterdifference to me:; God acceptethshows notno manspartiality person—theywell, Ithose say, who were of reputereputation impartedcontributed nothing to me:. |
| 2:7 |
butBut contrariwise,on whenthe theycontrary, sawseeing that I had been intrustedentrusted with the gospel ofto the uncircumcisionuncircumcised, evenjust as Peter withhad thebeen gospelto of the circumcisioncircumcised |
| 2:8 |
for heHe thatwho wroughteffectually worked for Peter untoin thehis apostleship ofto the circumcisioncircumcised wroughteffectually worked for me also untoto the Gentiles;, |
| 2:9 |
and whenrecognizing they perceived the grace that washad been given untoto me, James and Cephas and John, they who were reputed to be pillars, gave to me and Barnabas the right handshand of fellowship, that we shouldmight go untoto the Gentiles, and they untoto the circumcision;circumcised. |
| 2:10 |
They only theyasked wouldus thatto we should remember the poor; whichthe very thing I also was alsoeager zealous to do. |
| 2:11 |
But when Cephas came to Antioch, I resistedopposed him to thehis face, because he stood condemned. |
| 2:12 |
For beforeprior thatto the coming of certain camemen from James, he ateused to eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he drewbegan backto withdraw and separatedhold himself aloof, fearing themthe thatparty were of the circumcision. |
| 2:13 |
And the rest of the Jews dissembledjoined likewisehim in hypocrisy, with him;the insomuchresult that even Barnabas was carried away withby their dissimulationhypocrisy. |
| 2:14 |
But when I saw that they walkedwere not uprightlystraightforward accordingabout to the truth of the gospel, I said untoto Cephas beforein themthe presence of all, If thouyou, being a Jew, livestlive aslike do the Gentiles, and not aslike do the Jews, how compellestis thouit that you compel the Gentiles to live aslike do the Jews? |
| 2:15 |
We beingare Jews by nature, and not sinners offrom among the Gentiles,; |
| 2:16 |
yetnevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the lawLaw but through faith in Christ Jesus Christ, even we have believed onin Christ Jesus, that we mightmay be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the law:Law; becausesince by the works of the lawLaw shall no flesh be justified. |
| 2:17 |
But if, while weseeking sought to be justified in Christ, we ourselves have also werebeen found sinners, is Christ then a minister of sin? GodMay forbid.it never be! |
| 2:18 |
For if I buildrebuild upwhat againI thosehave thingsonce which I destroyed, I prove myself to be a transgressor. |
| 2:19 |
For I through the lawLaw I died untoto the lawLaw, that I might live untoto God. |
| 2:20 |
I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I thatwho live, but Christ livethlives in me:; and thatthe life which I now live in the flesh I live inby faith, the faith which is in the Son of God, who loved me, and gavedelivered himselfHimself up for me. |
| 2:21 |
I do not makenullify void the grace of God:; for if righteousness iscomes through the lawLaw, then Christ died for noughtneedlessly. |
| 3:1 |
OYou foolish Galatians, who didhas bewitchbewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was openlypublicly setportrayed forthas crucified? |
| 3:2 |
This is the only wouldthing I learnwant to find out from you,: Receiveddid yeyou receive the Spirit by the works of the lawLaw, or by the hearing ofwith faith? |
| 3:3 |
Are yeyou so foolish? havingHaving begun inby the Spirit, are yeyou now being perfected inby the flesh? |
| 3:4 |
Did yeyou suffer so many things in vain? if indeed it bewas indeed in vain.? |
| 3:5 |
Does He thereforethen, thatwho suppliethprovides to you with the Spirit, and workethworks miracles among you, doethdo he it by the works of the lawLaw, or by the hearing ofwith faith? |
| 3:6 |
Even asso Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned untoto him foras righteousness. |
| 3:7 |
KnowTherefore, thereforebe sure that theyit thatis those who are of faith, thewho same are sons of Abraham. |
| 3:8 |
And the scriptureScripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand untoto Abraham, saying, InAll thee shall all the nations shall be blessed in you. |
| 3:9 |
So then theythose thatwho are of faith are blessed with Abraham, the faithful Abrahambeliever. |
| 3:10 |
For as many as are of the works of the lawLaw are under a curse:; for it is written, Cursed is everyeveryone one who continuethdoes not inabide by all things that are written in the book of the law, to doperform them. |
| 3:11 |
Now that no manone is justified by the lawLaw before God, is evident:; for, The righteous man shall live by faith;. |
| 3:12 |
andHowever, the lawLaw is not of faith; buton the contrary, He thatwho doethpractices them shall live inby them. |
| 3:13 |
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the lawLaw, having become a curse for us; for it is written, Cursed is everyeveryone onewho thathangs hangeth on a tree: |
| 3:14 |
thatin uponorder thethat Gentilesin mightChrist comeJesus the blessing of Abraham inmight Christcome Jesus;to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. |
| 3:15 |
Brethren, I speak afterin theterms manner of menhuman relations: Thougheven though it beis butonly a mans covenant, yet when it hathhas been confirmedratified, no one makethsets it void, aside or addethadds theretoconditions to it. |
| 3:16 |
Now tothe Abrahampromises were thespoken promisesto spoken,Abraham and to his seed. He saithdoes not say, And to seeds, as ofreferring to many;, but asrather ofto one, And to thyyour seed, whichthat is, Christ. |
| 3:17 |
NowWhat this I say:am Asaying covenantis confirmedthis: beforehand by God, the lawLaw, which came four hundred and thirty years afterlater, dothdoes not disannulinvalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to makenullify the promise of none effect. |
| 3:18 |
For if the inheritance is ofbased theon law, it is no morelonger ofbased on a promise:; but God hathhas granted it to Abraham by means of a promise. |
| 3:19 |
WhatWhy thenthe isLaw the lawthen? It was added because of transgressions, tillhaving thebeen seedordained shouldthrough comeangels toby whom the promiseagency hathof beena made;mediator, anduntil itthe wasseed ordainedshould throughcome angelsto bywhom the handpromise ofhad abeen mediatormade. |
| 3:20 |
Now a mediator is not afor mediatorone ofparty oneonly; butwhereas God is only one. |
| 3:21 |
Is the lawLaw then againstcontrary to the promises of God? GodMay forbid:it fornever be! For if therea law had been a law given which couldwas makeable aliveto impart life, verilythen righteousness would indeed have been ofbased theon law. |
| 3:22 |
But the scriptureScripture has shut up all thingsmen under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to themthose thatwho believe. |
| 3:23 |
But before faith came, we were kept in wardcustody under the law, being shut up untoto the faith which shouldwas afterwardslater to be revealed. |
| 3:24 |
SoTherefore that the lawLaw ishas become our tutor to bringlead us untoto Christ, that we mightmay be justified by faith. |
| 3:25 |
But now that faith ishas come, we are no longer under a tutor. |
| 3:26 |
For yeyou are all sons of God, through faith, in Christ Jesus. |
| 3:27 |
For asall many of you aswho were baptized into Christ didhave putclothed onyourselves with Christ. |
| 3:28 |
There canis be neither Jew nor Greek, there canis be neither bondslave nor free man, there canis beneither no male andnor female; for yeyou are all are one man in Christ Jesus. |
| 3:29 |
And if yeyou arebelong Christsto Christ, then you are ye Abrahams seedoffspring, heirs according to promise. |
| 4:1 |
ButNow I say, thatas so long as the heir is a child, he differethdoes nothingnot differ at all from a bondservantslave thoughalthough he is Lordowner of all;everything, |
| 4:2 |
but he is under guardians and stewardsmanagers until the daydate appointedset ofby the father. |
| 4:3 |
So also we also, whenwhile we were children, were held in bondage under the rudimentselemental things of the world:. |
| 4:4 |
butBut when the fulness of the time came, God sent forth hisHis Son, born of a woman, born under the lawLaw, |
| 4:5 |
in order that heHe might redeem themthose thatwho were under the lawLaw, that we might receive the adoption ofas sons. |
| 4:6 |
And because yeyou are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of hisHis Son into our hearts, crying, Abba,! Father.! |
| 4:7 |
SoTherefore thatyou thouare art no longer a bondservantslave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God. |
| 4:8 |
HowbeitHowever at that time, when you did not knowingknow God, yeyou were inslaves bondage to themthose thatwhich by nature are no gods:. |
| 4:9 |
butBut now that yeyou have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how is it that you turn ye back again to the weak and beggarlyworthless rudimentselemental things, whereuntoto yewhich you desire to be inenslaved bondageall over again? |
| 4:10 |
YeYou observe days, and months, and seasons, and years. |
| 4:11 |
I amfear afraidfor of you, lestthat byperhaps any means I have bestowedlabored laborover upon you in vain. |
| 4:12 |
I beseechbeg of you, brethren, become as I am, for I also amhave become as yeyou are. YeYou didhave done me no wrong:; |
| 4:13 |
but yeyou know that it was because of ana infirmitybodily ofillness thethat flesh I preached the gospel untoto you the first time:; |
| 4:14 |
and that which was a temptationtrial to you in my fleshbodily yecondition despisedyou did not, nordespise rejected;or loathe, but yeyou received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus Himself. |
| 4:15 |
Where then is that gratulationsense of yourselvesblessing you had? forFor I bear you witness, that, if possible, yeyou would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me. |
| 4:16 |
SoHave thenI amtherefore I become your enemy, by telling you the truth? |
| 4:17 |
They zealouslyeagerly seek you, innot nocommendably, goodbut way; nay, they desirewish to shut you out, in order that yeyou may seek them. |
| 4:18 |
But it is good always to be zealouslyeagerly sought in a goodcommendable matter at all timesmanner, and not only when I am present with you. |
| 4:19 |
My little children, ofwith whom I am again in travaillabor until Christ beis formed in you— |
| 4:20 |
but I could wish to be present with you now, and to change my tone;, for I am perplexed about you. |
| 4:21 |
Tell me, yeyou thatwho desirewant to be under the law, do yeyou not hearlisten to the law? |
| 4:22 |
For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, one by the handmaid, bondwoman and one by the freewomanfree woman. |
| 4:23 |
HowbeitBut the son by the handmaidbondwoman iswas born afteraccording to the flesh;, butand the son by the freewomanfree iswoman born through the promise. |
| 4:24 |
WhichThis thingsis containallegorically an allegoryspeaking: for these women are two covenants;, one proceeding from mountMount Sinai, bearing children untowho bondage, are whichto be slaves; she is Hagar. |
| 4:25 |
Now this Hagar is mountMount Sinai in Arabia, and answerethcorresponds to the present Jerusalem, that now is: for she is in bondageslavery with her children. |
| 4:26 |
But the Jerusalem that is above is free,; whichshe is our mother. |
| 4:27 |
For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren thatwoman bearestwho does not bear; Break forth and cryshout, thouyou thatwho travailestare not: in labor; For more are the children of the desolate thanThan of herthe thatone hathwho thehas a husband. |
| 4:28 |
NowAnd we,you brethren, aslike Isaac was, are children of promise. |
| 4:29 |
But as thenat that time he thatwho was born afteraccording to the flesh persecuted him thatwho was born afteraccording to the Spirit, so also it is now also. |
| 4:30 |
HowbeitBut what saithdoes the scriptureScripture say? Cast out the handmaidbondwoman and her son:, forFor the son of the handmaidbondwoman shall not inheritbe an heir with the son of the freewomanfree woman. |
| 4:31 |
WhereforeSo then, brethren, we are not children of a handmaidbondwoman, but of the freewomanfree woman. |
| 5:1 |
ForIt was for freedom didthat Christ set us free:; standtherefore fastkeep therefore, standing firm and bedo not entangledbe subject again into a yoke of bondageslavery. |
| 5:2 |
Behold, I, Paul, say untoto you, that, if yeyou receive circumcision, Christ will profitbe of no benefit to you nothing. |
| 5:3 |
Yea,And I testify again to every man thatwho receivethreceives circumcision, that he is aunder debtorobligation to dokeep the whole lawLaw. |
| 5:4 |
YeYou arehave been severed from Christ, yeyou who wouldare seeking to be justified by the law; yeyou arehave fallen away from grace. |
| 5:5 |
For we through the Spirit, by faith, waitare waiting for the hope of righteousness. |
| 5:6 |
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availethnor uncircumcision means anything, nor uncircumcision; but faith working through love. |
| 5:7 |
YeYou were running well; who hindered you thatfrom yeobeying should not obey the truth? |
| 5:8 |
This persuasion camedid not ofcome himfrom thatHim callethwho calls you. |
| 5:9 |
A little leaven leavenethleavens the whole lump of dough. |
| 5:10 |
I have confidence toin you ward in the Lord, that yeyou will beadopt noneno otherwiseother minded:view; but hethe thatone troublethwho is disturbing you shall bear his judgment, whosoeverwhoever he beis. |
| 5:11 |
But I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? thenThen hath the stumbling block of the cross has been done awayabolished. |
| 5:12 |
IWould would that theythose thatwho unsettleare troubling you would even gomutilate beyond circumcisionthemselves. |
| 5:13 |
For ye,you brethren, were called forto freedom, brethren; only usedo not turn your freedom forinto an occasionopportunity tofor the flesh, but through love beserve servants one to another. |
| 5:14 |
For the whole lawLaw is fulfilled in one word, even in this:the Thoustatement, shaltYou shall love thyyour neighbor as thyselfyourself. |
| 5:15 |
But if yeyou bite and devour one another, take heedcare thatlest yeyou be not consumed by one of another. |
| 5:16 |
But I say, Walkwalk by the Spirit, and yeyou shallwill not fulfilcarry out the lustdesire of the flesh. |
| 5:17 |
For the flesh lustethsets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are contraryin theopposition to one toanother, theso other; that yeyou may not do the things that yeyou wouldplease. |
| 5:18 |
But if yeyou are led by the Spirit, yeyou are not under the lawLaw. |
| 5:19 |
Now the worksdeeds of the flesh are manifestevident, which are these: fornicationimmorality, uncleannessimpurity, lasciviousnesssensuality, |
| 5:20 |
idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousiesjealousy, wrathsoutbursts of anger, factionsdisputes, divisionsdissensions, partiesfactions, |
| 5:21 |
envyingsenvying, drunkenness, revellingscarousing, and suchthings like; these, of which I forewarn you, evenjust as I didhave forewarnforewarned you, that theythose who practisepractice such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. |
| 5:22 |
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsufferingpatience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, |
| 5:23 |
meeknessgentleness, self control; against such things there is no law. |
| 5:24 |
AndNow theythose thatwho arebelong ofto Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with theits passions and the lusts thereofdesires. |
| 5:25 |
If we live by the Spirit, by the Spirit let us also walk by the Spirit. |
| 5:26 |
Let us not become vaingloriousboastful, provokingchallenging one another, envying one another. |
| 6:1 |
Brethren, even if a man beis overtakencaught in any trespass, yeyou who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to thyselfyourself, lest thouyou alsotoo be tempted. |
| 6:2 |
Bear ye one anothers burdens, and sothus fulfilfulfill the law of Christ. |
| 6:3 |
For if aanyone manthinks thinkethhe himselfis to be something when he is nothing, he deceivethdeceives himself. |
| 6:4 |
But let each manone proveexamine his own work, and then shall he will have hisreason gloryingfor boasting in regard ofto himself alone, and not ofin hisregard neighborto another. |
| 6:5 |
For each manone shall bear his own burdenload. |
| 6:6 |
ButAnd let himthe thatone who is taught in the word communicateshare untoall himgood thatthings teachethwith inhim allwho good thingsteaches. |
| 6:7 |
BeDo not be deceived;, God is not mocked:; for whatsoeverwhatever a man sowethsows, thatthis shall he will also reap. |
| 6:8 |
For hethe thatone sowethwho untosows to his own flesh shall offrom the flesh reap corruption;, but hethe thatone sowethwho untosows to the Spirit shall offrom the Spirit reap eternal life. |
| 6:9 |
And let us not belose wearyheart in well doing: good, for in due seasontime we shall reap, if we faintdo not grow weary. |
| 6:10 |
So then, aswhile we have opportunity, let us workdo that which is good towardto all men, and especially towardto themthose thatwho are of the household of the faith. |
| 6:11 |
See with howwhat large letters I writeam untowriting to you with minemy own hand. |
| 6:12 |
AsThose manywho as desire to make a fairgood showshowing in the flesh, theytry to compel you to be circumcised;, onlysimply that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. |
| 6:13 |
For notthose even they who receiveare circumcisioncircumcised do themselvesnot even keep the law;Law themselves, but they desire to have you circumcised, that they may gloryboast in your flesh. |
| 6:14 |
But farmay it never be itthat fromI meshould to gloryboast, saveexcept in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world hathhas been crucified untoto me, and I untoto the world. |
| 6:15 |
For neither is circumcision anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creaturecreation. |
| 6:16 |
And asthose manywho aswill shall walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. |
| 6:17 |
HenceforthFrom now on let no manone cause trouble for me;, for I bear branded on my body the brand marks of Jesus. |
