AndThen they setappointed the priests into their divisions, and the Levites in their courses, orders for the service of God, whichin is at Jerusalem;, as it is written in the book of Moses. |
| 6:19 |
And the childrenexiles ofobserved the captivityPassover kepton the passover upon the fourteenth day of the first month. |
| 6:20 |
For the priests and the Levites had purified themselves together; all of them were pure:. andThen they killedslaughtered the passoverPassover lamb for all the children of the captivityexiles, andboth for their brethrenbrothers the priests, and for themselves. |
| 6:21 |
And the childrensons of Israel thatwho werereturned comefrom againexile out of the captivity, and all suchthose aswho had separated themselves unto them from the filthinessimpurity of the nations of the land to join them, to seek Jehovah, the Lord God of Israel, didate eat,the Passover. |
| 6:22 |
andAnd keptthey observed the feastFeast of unleavenedUnleavened breadBread seven days with joy:, for Jehovahthe Lord had madecaused them joyfulto rejoice, and had turned the heart of the king of Assyria untotoward them, to strengthenencourage theirthem hands in the work of the house of God, the God of Israel. |
| 7:1 |
Now after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, there went up Ezra the son of Seraiah, the son of Azariah, the son of Hilkiah, |

| 7:27 |
Blessed be Jehovahthe Lord, the God of our fathers, who hathhas put such a thing as this in the kings heart, to beautifyadorn the house of Jehovahthe Lord which is in Jerusalem;, |
| 7:28 |
and hathhas extended lovingkindness untoto me before the king, and his counsellors, counselors and before all the kings mighty princes. AndThus I was strengthened according to the hand of Jehovahthe Lord my God upon me, and I gathered togetherleading outmen offrom Israel chief men to go up with me. |
| 8:1 |
Now these are the heads of their fathers houses, households and thisthe isgenealogical theenrollment genealogy of themthose thatwho went up with me from Babylon, in the reign of King Artaxerxes the king: |
| 8:2 |
Ofof the sons of Phinehas, Gershom.; Ofof the sons of Ithamar, Daniel.; Ofof the sons of David, Hattush.; |
| 8:3 |
Ofof the sons of Shecaniah, who was of the sons of Parosh, Zechariah; and with him were150 reckonedmales bywho genealogywere ofin the malesgenealogical a hundred and fifty.list; |

| 8:14 |
Andand of the sons of Bigvai, Uthai and Zabbud; and 70 males with them seventy males. |
| 8:15 |
AndNow I gatheredassembled them togetherat to the river that runnethruns to Ahava;, andwhere there we encampedcamped for three days:; and when I viewedobserved the people, and the priests, andI founddid therenot nonefind ofany theLevites sons of Levithere. |
| 8:16 |
ThenSo I sent I for Eliezer, for Ariel, for Shemaiah, and for Elnathan, and for Jarib, and for Elnathan, and for Nathan, and for Zechariah, and for Meshullam, chiefleading men;, alsoand for Joiarib, and for Elnathan, who were teachers. |
| 8:17 |
And I sent them forthto unto Iddo the chiefleading man at the place Casiphia; and I told them what theyto should say untoto Iddo, and his brethrenbrothers, the Nethinim, temple servants at the place Casiphia, that theyis, shouldto bring untoministers to us ministers for the house of our God. |
| 8:18 |
And according to the good hand of our God upon us they brought us a man of discretion, insight of the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel;, andnamely Sherebiah, withand his sons and his brethrenbrothers, eighteen18 men; |
| 8:19 |
and Hashabiah, and with him Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, with his brethrenbrothers and their sons, twenty20 men; |
| 8:20 |
and 220 of the Nethinimtemple servants, whom David and the princes had given for the service of the Levites, two hundred and twenty Nethinim: all of them weredesignated mentioned by name. |
| 8:21 |
Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek offrom himHim a straightsafe wayjourney for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substancepossessions. |
| 8:22 |
For I was ashamed to askrequest offrom the king atroops band of soldiers and horsemen to helpprotect us againstfrom the enemy inon the way, because we had spokensaid untoto the king, saying, The hand of our God is uponfavorably disposed to all themthose thatwho seek himHim, for good; but hisHis power and hisHis wrathanger isare against all themthose thatwho forsake himHim. |
| 8:23 |
So we fasted and besoughtsought our God forconcerning this: matter, and heHe waslistened entreatedto ofour usentreaty. |
| 8:24 |
Then I set apart twelve of the chiefsleading of the priests, even Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and with them ten of their brethren with them, brothers; |
| 8:25 |
and I weighed untoout to them the silver, and the gold, and the vesselsutensils, even the offering for the house of our God, which the king, and his counsellors, counselors and his princes, and all Israel present there present, had offered:. |
| 8:26 |
Thus I weighed into their handhands six650 hundred and fifty talents of silver, and silver vesselsutensils aworth hundred100 talents;, ofand 100 gold a hundred talents;, |
| 8:27 |
and twenty20 gold bowls, ofworth gold1,000 of a thousand darics; and two vesselsutensils of fine brightshiny brassbronze, precious as gold. |
| 8:28 |
AndThen I said untoto them, YeYou are holy untoto Jehovahthe Lord, and the vesselsutensils are holy; and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering untoto Jehovah, the Lord God of your fathers. |
| 8:29 |
Watch ye, and keep them, until yeyou weigh them before the chiefsleading of the priests, and the Levites, and the princesheads of the fathers houseshouseholds of Israel, at Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 8:30 |
So the priests and the Levites receivedaccepted the weightweighed ofout the silver and the gold, and the vesselsutensils, to bring them to Jerusalem untoto the house of our God. |
| 8:31 |
Then we departedjourneyed from the river Ahava on the twelfth day of the first month, to go untoto Jerusalem:; and the hand of our God was uponover us, and heHe delivered us from the hand of the enemy and the lierambushes in wait by the way. |
| 8:32 |
AndThus we came to Jerusalem, and aboderemained there three days. |
| 8:33 |
And on the fourth day the silver and the gold and the vesselsutensils were weighed out in the house of our God into the hand of Meremoth the son of Uriah the priest, and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas:; and with them waswere the Levites, Jozabad the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah the son of Binnui, the Levites—. |
| 8:34 |
theEverything wholewas bynumbered number and byweighed, weight: and all the weight was writtenrecorded at that time. |
| 8:35 |
The childrenexiles ofwho thehad captivity, that were come outfrom ofthe exile, captivity offered burnt offerings untoto the God of Israel,: twelve12 bullocksbulls for all Israel, ninety96 and six rams, seventy77 and seven lambs, twelve12 hemale goats for a sin offering:, all thisas was a burnt offering untoto Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 8:36 |
AndThen they delivered the kings commissionsedicts untoto the kings satraps, and to the governors in the provinces beyond the River:, and they furtheredsupported the people and the house of God. |
| 9:1 |
Now when these things werehad donebeen completed, the princes drewapproached near unto me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the peoples of the lands, doing according to their abominations, eventhose of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites. |
| 9:2 |
For they have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and for their sons, so that the holy seedrace havehas mingledintermingled themselves with the peoples of the lands:; yeaindeed, the handhands of the princes and the rulers hathhave been chiefforemost in this trespassunfaithfulness. |
| 9:3 |
And when I heard about this thingmatter, I renttore my garment and my robe, and pluckedpulled offsome of the hair offrom my head and of my beard, and sat down confoundedappalled. |
| 9:4 |
Then wereeveryone assembledwho unto me every one that trembled at the words of the God of Israel, becauseon account of the trespassunfaithfulness of themthe ofexiles thegathered captivity;to me, and I sat confoundedappalled until the evening oblationoffering. |
| 9:5 |
AndBut at the evening oblationoffering I arose up from my humiliation, even with my garment and my robe rent;torn, and I fell uponon my knees, and spreadstretched out my hands untoto Jehovahthe Lord my God; |
| 9:6 |
and I said, O my God, I am ashamed and blushembarrassed to lift up my face to theeThee, my God;, for our iniquities arehave increasedrisen overabove our headheads, and our guiltinessguilt ishas grown upeven untoto the heavens. |
| 9:7 |
Since the days of our fathers to this day we have been exceedingin guiltygreat untoguilt, thisand day;on andaccount forof our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, have been deliveredgiven into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to plunder, and to confusionopen of faceshame, as it is this day. |
| 9:8 |
AndBut now for a littlebrief moment grace hathhas been showedshown from Jehovahthe Lord our God, to leave us aan escaped remnant to escape, and to give us a nailpeg in hisHis holy place, that our God may lightenenlighten our eyes, and givegrant us a little reviving in our bondage. |
| 9:9 |
For we are bondmenslaves; yet in our bondage, our God hathhas not forsaken us in our bondage, but hathhas extended lovingkindness untoto us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to setraise up the house of our God, and to repairrestore theits ruins thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem. |
| 9:10 |
And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? forFor we have forsaken thyThy commandments, |
| 9:11 |
which thouThou hast commanded by thyThy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which yeyou goare entering to possess it, is an unclean land throughwith the uncleanness of the peoples of the lands, throughwith their abominations, which have filled it from one end to anotherend and with their filthiness:impurity. |
| 9:12 |
So now thereforedo not give not your daughters untoto their sons, neithernor take their daughters untoto your sons, norand never seek their peace or their prosperity, for ever; that yeyou may be strong, and eat the good things of the land, and leave it foras an inheritance to your childrensons for everforever. |
| 9:13 |
And after all that ishas come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great guilt, seeingsince thatThou thou our God hast punishedrequited us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us suchan aescaped remnant as this, |
| 9:14 |
shall we again break thyThy commandments, and joinintermarry in affinity with the peoples thatwho docommit these abominations? wouldestWouldst Thou not thou be angry with us tillto thouthe hadstpoint consumedof usdestruction, sountil that there shouldis be no remnant, nor any towho escape? |
| 9:15 |
O Jehovah,Lord the God of Israel, thouThou art righteous;, for we arehave been left aan escaped remnant that is escaped, as it is this day:; behold, we are before theeThee in our guiltiness;guilt, for noneno one can stand before theeThee because of this. |
| 10:1 |
Now while Ezra prayedwas praying and mademaking confession, weeping and castingprostrating himself down before the house of God, there was gathered together unto him out of Israel a very greatlarge assembly, of men, and women, and children, gathered to him from Israel; for the people wept very sorebitterly. |
| 10:2 |
And Shecaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said untoto Ezra, We have trespassedbeen againstunfaithful to our God, and have married foreign women offrom the peoples of the land:; yet now there is hope for Israel concerningin spite of this thing. |
| 10:3 |
NowSo thereforenow let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and suchtheir as are born of themchildren, according to the counsel of my Lord, and of those thatwho tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law. |
| 10:4 |
Arise;! forFor thethis matter belongethis untoyour theeresponsibility, andbut we arewill be with thee:you; be ofcourageous good courage, and do itact. |
| 10:5 |
Then arose Ezra, rose and made the chiefsleading of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel, totake swearoath that they would do according to this word.proposal; Soso they swaretook the oath. |
| 10:6 |
Then Ezra rose up from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Jehohanan the son of Eliashib:. andAlthough when he camewent thitherthere, he did not eat no bread, nor drink water;, for he mournedwas becausemourning ofover the trespassunfaithfulness of them of the captivityexiles. |
| 10:7 |
And they made a proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem untoto all the children of the captivityexiles, that they should gatherassemble themselvesat together unto Jerusalem;, |
| 10:8 |
and that whosoeverwhoever camewould not come within three days, according to the counsel of the princesleaders and the elders, all his substancepossessions should be forfeited, and he himself separatedexcluded from the assembly of the captivityexiles. |
| 10:9 |
ThenSo all the men of Judah and Benjamin gatheredassembled themselvesat together unto Jerusalem within the three days. itIt was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month;, and all the people sat in the broadopen placesquare before the house of God, trembling because of this matter, and for the greatheavy rain. |
| 10:10 |
AndThen Ezra the priest stood up, and said untoto them, YeYou have trespassed, been unfaithful and have married foreign women, wives adding to increase the guilt of Israel. |
| 10:11 |
Now, therefore, make confession untoto Jehovah, the Lord God of your fathers, and do hisHis pleasurewill; and separate yourselves from the peoples of the land, and from the foreign womenwives. |
| 10:12 |
Then all the assembly answered and said with a loud voice, Thats right! As thouyou hasthave said concerning us, so mustit weis our duty to do. |
| 10:13 |
But thethere people are many people, and it is athe timerainy of much rainseason, and we are not able to stand without:in neitherthe isopen. thisNor acan workthe oftask be done in one day or two; days, for we have transgressed greatly transgressed in this matter. |
| 10:14 |
Let now our princesleaders berepresent appointedthe forwhole all the assembly, and let all themthose that are in our cities thatwho have married foreign womenwives come at appointed times, andtogether with them the elders and judges of everyeach city, and the judges thereof, until the fierce wrathanger of our God beon turnedaccount fromof us, until this matter beis despatchedturned away from us. |
| 10:15 |
Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahzeiah the son of Tikvah stoodopposed up against this, matter:with and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite helpedsupporting them. |
| 10:16 |
AndBut the childrenexiles of the captivity did so. And Ezra the priest, withselected certainmen who were heads of fathers houses, households afterfor each of their fathers houseshouseholds, and all of them by theirname. names,So were set apart; and they satconvened downon in the first day of the tenth month to examineinvestigate the matter. |
| 10:17 |
And they madefinished aninvestigating end with all the men thatwho had married foreign womenwives by the first day of the first month. |
| 10:18 |
