8:17 And in each and every province, and in each and every city, whithersoeverwherever the kings commandment and his decree camearrived, thethere Jewswas had gladness and joy for the Jews, a feast and a good dayholiday. And many from among the peoples of the land became Jews;, for the feardread of the Jews washad fallen uponon them.
9:1 Now in the twelfth month, whichthat is, the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the kings commandmentcommand and hisedict decreewere drewabout near to be put in executionexecuted, on the day thatwhen the enemies of the Jews hoped to havegain rulethe mastery over them, whereas it was turned to the contrary, so that the Jews hadthemselves rulegained the mastery over themthose thatwho hated them,.
9:2 theThe Jews gatheredassembled themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of theKing king Ahasuerus, to lay handhands on suchthose aswho sought their hurt:harm; and no manone could withstandstand before them;, for the feardread of them washad fallen uponon all the peoples.
9:3 AndEven all the princes of the provinces, and the satraps, and the governors, and theythose thatwho didwere doing the kings business, helpedassisted the Jews;, because the feardread of Mordecai washad fallen uponon them.
9:4 ForIndeed, Mordecai was great in the kings house, and his fame wentspread forth throughout all the provinces; for the man Mordecai waxedbecame greater and greater.
9:5 AndThus the Jews smotestruck all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, killing and withdestroying; slaughter and destruction, they and did what they wouldpleased untoto themthose thatwho hated them.
9:6 And in ShushanSusa the palacecapital the Jews slewkilled and destroyed five hundred men.,
9:7 Andand Parshandatha, and Dalphon, and Aspatha,
9:8 and Poratha, and Adalia, and Aridatha,
9:9 and Parmashta, and Arisai, and Aridai, and Vaizatha,
9:10 the ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Jews enemy,; slewbut they; butdid onnot thelay spoiltheir theyhands laidon notthe their handplunder.
9:11 On that day the number of those thatwho were slainkilled in ShushanSusa the palacecapital was broughtreported beforeto the king.
9:12 And the king said untoto Queen Esther the queen, The Jews have slainkilled and destroyed five hundred men in Shushan the palace, and the ten sons of Haman; whatin Susa the capital. What then have they done in the rest of the kings provinces! Now what is thyyour petition? andIt it shall even be granted thee:you. orAnd what is thyyour further request further? andIt it shall also be done.
9:13 Then said Esther, If it pleasepleases the king, let ittomorrow also be granted to the Jews thatwho are in ShushanSusa to do according to morrowthe alsoedict accordingof untotoday; this days decree, and let Hamans ten sons be hanged uponon the gallows.
9:14 AndSo the king commanded that it soshould to be done: so; and aan decreeedict was givenissued out in Shushan;Susa, and they hanged Hamans ten sons were hanged.
9:15 And the Jews thatwho were in ShushanSusa gatheredassembled themselvesalso together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and slewkilled three hundred men in Shushan;Susa, but on the spoil they laiddid not lay their handhands on the plunder.
9:16 AndNow the otherrest of the Jews thatwho were in the kings provinces gathered themselves togetherassembled, andto stooddefend for their lives, and hadrid restthemselves fromof their enemies, and slewkill 75,000 of themthose thatwho hated them seventy and five thousand; but on the spoil they laiddid not lay their handhands on the plunder.
9:17 This was done on the thirteenth day of the month Adar;, and on the fourteenth day of the same they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladnessrejoicing.
9:18 But the Jews thatwho were in ShushanSusa assembled together on the thirteenth dayand thereof, the andfourteenth onof the fourteenthsame thereof;month, and they rested on the fifteenth day of the same they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladnessrejoicing.
9:19 Therefore do the Jews of the villagesrural areas, thatwho dwelllive in the unwalledrural towns, make the fourteenth day of the month Adar a dayholiday offor gladnessrejoicing and feasting, and asending goodportions day, and of sendingfood portionsto one to another.
9:20 AndThen Mordecai wroterecorded these thingsevents, and he sent letters untoto all the Jews thatwho were in all the provinces of theKing king Ahasuerus, both nighnear and far,
9:21 toobliging enjoin them thatto theycelebrate should keep the fourteenth day of the month Adar, and the fifteenth day of the same month, yearlyannually,
9:22 asbecause theon those days wherein the Jews hadrid restthemselves fromof their enemies, and theit was a month which was turned untofor them from sorrow tointo gladness, and from mourning into a good dayholiday; that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, rejoicing and of sending portions oneof food to one another, and gifts to the poor.
9:23 AndThus the Jews undertook towhat do as they had begunstarted to do, and aswhat Mordecai had written untoto them;.
9:24 becauseFor Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemyadversary of all the Jews, had plottedschemed against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur, that is the lot, to consumedisturb them, and to destroy them;.
9:25 butBut when theit matter came beforeto the kingkings attention, he commanded by lettersletter that his wicked device, scheme which he had devised against the Jews, should return uponon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.
9:26 WhereforeTherefore they called these days Purim, after the name of Pur. ThereforeAnd because of all the wordsinstructions ofin this letter, andboth ofwhat that which they had seen concerningin this matter, regard and thatwhat which had comehappened untoto them,
9:27 the Jews ordained, established and tookmade upona themcustom for themselves, and uponfor their seeddescendants, and uponfor all suchthose aswho joinedallied themselves untowith them, so that itthey should not fail, thatto theycelebrate would keep these two days according to thetheir writing thereofregulation, and according to thetheir appointed time thereof, every year;annually.
9:28 andSo that these days shouldwere to be remembered and keptcelebrated throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim shouldwere not to fail from among the Jews, noror thetheir remembrancememory offade them perish from their seeddescendants.
9:29 Then Queen Esther the queen, the daughter of Abihail, andwith Mordecai the Jew, wrote with allfull authority to confirm this second letter ofabout Purim.
9:30 And he sent letters untoto all the Jews, to the hundred127 twenty and seven provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, withnamely, words of peace and truth,
9:31 to confirmestablish these days of Purim inat their appointed times, accordingjust as Mordecai the Jew and Queen Esther thehad queenestablished hadfor enjoined them, and just as they had ordainedestablished for themselves and for their seed, descendants inwith theinstructions matterfor their times of thefasting fastings and their crylamentations.
9:32 And the commandmentcommand of Esther confirmedestablished these matterscustoms offor Purim;, and it was written in the book.
10:1 AndNow theKing king Ahasuerus laid a tribute uponon the land, and uponon the islescoastlands of the sea.
10:2 And all the actsaccomplishments of his powerauthority and of his mightstrength, and the full account of the greatness of Mordecai, whereuntoto which the king advanced him, are they not written in the bookBook of the chroniclesChronicles of the kingsKings of Media and Persia?
10:3 For Mordecai the Jew was nextsecond untoonly kingto King Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews, and acceptedin offavor with the multitude of his brethrenkinsmen, seekingone who sought the good of his people, and speakingone peacewho tospoke allfor the welfare of his seedwhole nation.
