| 1:3 |
toTo whomthese heHe also showedpresented himselfHimself alive, after hisHis passionsuffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing untoto them byover thea spaceperiod of forty days, and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God:. |
| 1:4 |
and,And beinggathering assembledthem together with them, heHe chargedcommanded them not to departleave from Jerusalem, but to wait for what the promiseFather ofhad the Fatherpromised, whichWhich, He said he, yeyou heard of from me:Me; |
| 1:5 |
for John indeed baptized with water;, but yeyou shall be baptized inwith the Holy Spirit not many days hencefrom now. |
| 1:6 |
TheyAnd therefore,so when they werehad come together, askedthey himwere asking Him, saying, Lord, dostis thouit at this time restoreYou are restoring the kingdom to Israel? |
| 1:7 |
AndHe he said untoto them, It is not for you to know times or seasons, epochs which the Father hathhas setfixed withinby hisHis own authority.; |
| 1:8 |
Butbut yeyou shall receive power, when the Holy Spirit ishas come upon you:; and yeyou shall be myMy witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all JudaeaJudea and Samaria, and untoeven to the uttermostremotest part of the earth. |
| 1:9 |
And whenafter heHe had said these things, asHe was lifted up while they were looking on, he was taken up; and a cloud received himHim out of their sight. |
| 1:10 |
And whileas they were lookinggazing stedfastlyintently into heaventhe assky hewhile wentHe was departing, behold, two men stoodin bywhite themclothing instood whitebeside apparelthem; |
| 1:11 |
whoand they also said, YeMen men of Galilee, why do you stand ye looking into heaventhe sky? thisThis Jesus, who washas receivedbeen taken up from you into heaven, shallwill so come in likejust mannerthe same way as yeyou beheldhave himwatched goingHim go into heaven. |
| 1:12 |
Then they returned theyto unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is nighnear unto Jerusalem, a sabbathSabbath days journey offaway. |
| 1:13 |
And when they werehad come inentered, they went up intoto the upper chamberroom, where they were abidingstaying; boththat is, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James. |
| 1:14 |
These all with one accordmind continuedwere stedfastlycontinually indevoting themselves to prayer, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with hisHis brethrenbrothers. |
| 1:15 |
And inat thesethis daystime Peter stood up in the midst of the brethren, anda saidgathering andof thereabout wasone ahundred multitudeand oftwenty persons gatheredwas there together, about a hundred and twentysaid, |
| 1:16 |
Brethren, itthe wasScripture needfulhad thatto the scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spakeforetold before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who wasbecame a guide to themthose thatwho tookarrested Jesus. |
| 1:17 |
For he was numberedcounted among us, and received his portion in this ministry. |
| 1:18 |
Now this man obtainedacquired a field with the rewardprice of his iniquitywickedness; and falling headlong, he burst asunderopen in the midst, middle and all his bowels gushed out. |
| 1:19 |
And it became known to all thewho dwellerswere atliving in Jerusalem; insomuchso that in their own language that field was called AkeldamaHakeldama, that is, TheField field of bloodBlood. |
| 1:20 |
For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitationhomestead be made desolate, And let no man dwell therein:in it; and, His office let another man take. |
| 1:21 |
OfIt is therefore necessary that of the men thereforewho that have companiedaccompanied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and went out among us, |
| 1:22 |
beginning fromwith the baptism of John, untountil the day that heHe was receivedtaken up from us, one of these mustshould one become a witness with us of hisHis resurrection. |
| 1:23 |
And they put forward two men, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was surnamedalso called Justus, and Matthias. |
| 1:24 |
And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, show which one of these two theThou one whom thou hast chosen, |
| 1:25 |
to takeoccupy the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas fellturned away, aside thatto he might go to his own place. |
| 1:26 |
And they gavedrew lots for them;, and the lot fell uponto Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. |
| 2:1 |
And when the day of Pentecost washad now come, they were all together in one place. |
| 2:2 |
And suddenly there came from heaven a soundnoise aslike ofa theviolent, rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the whole house where they were sitting. |
| 2:3 |
And there appeared untoto them tongues parting asunder, like as of fire; distributing themselves, and itthey satrested uponon each one of them. |
| 2:4 |
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gavewas giving them utterance. |
| 2:5 |
Now there were dwellingJews atliving in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. |
| 2:6 |
And when this sound was heardoccurred, the multitude came together, and were confoundedbewildered, because thatthey everywere maneach heardone hearing them speakingspeak in his own language. |
| 2:7 |
And they were all amazed and marvelledmarveled, saying, BeholdWhy, are not all these thatwho speakare Galilaeansspeaking Galileans? |
| 2:8 |
And how hearis it that we, everyeach manhear them in our own language whereinto which we were born? |
| 2:9 |
Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and theresidents dwellersof in Mesopotamia, inJudea Judaea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia, |
| 2:10 |
in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the partsdistricts of Libya aboutaround Cyrene, and sojournersvisitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, |
| 2:11 |
Cretans and Arabians,Arabs we hear them speaking in our own tongues speaking of the mighty worksdeeds of God. |
| 2:12 |
And they were all amazed, continued in amazement and weregreat perplexedperplexity, saying to one to another, What meanethdoes this mean? |
| 2:13 |
But others were mocking saidand saying, They are filledfull withof newsweet wine. |
| 2:14 |
But Peter, standingtaking uphis stand with the eleven, liftedraised up his voice, and spakedeclared forthto unto them,: saying,Men Ye men of JudaeaJudea, and all yeyou thatwho dwelllive atin Jerusalem, belet this be known untoto you, and give earheed untoto my words. |
| 2:15 |
For these men are not drunkendrunk, as yeyou suppose;, seeingfor it is butonly the third hour of the day; |
| 2:16 |
but this is thatwhat whichwas hathspoken beenof spoken through the prophet Joel: |
| 2:17 |
And it shall be in the last days, saithGod Godsays, That I will pour forth of myMy Spirit upon all flesh:mankind; And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams:; |
| 2:18 |
YeaEven andupon onMy mybondslaves, servantsboth men and onwomen, myI handmaidenswill in those days Will I pour forth of myMy Spirit; andAnd they shall prophesy. |
| 2:19 |
And I will showgrant wonders in the heavensky above, And signs on the earth beneath;, Blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke:. |
| 2:20 |
The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the great and glorious day of the Lord shall come, That great and notable day:. |
| 2:21 |
And it shall be, that whosoevereveryone shallwho callcalls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. |
| 2:22 |
YeMen men of Israel, hearlisten to these words: Jesus ofthe NazarethNazarene, a man approvedattested ofto God unto you by mightyGod workswith miracles and wonders and signs which God didperformed bythrough himHim in theyour midst of you, evenjust as yeyou yourselves know; |
| 2:23 |
himthis Man, being delivered up by the determinatepredetermined counselplan and foreknowledge of God, yeyou nailed to a cross by the handhands of lawlessgodless men didand crucifyput andHim slay:to death. |
| 2:24 |
whomAnd God raised Him up again, havingputting loosedan end to the pangsagony of death:, becausesince it was notimpossible possiblefor thatHim heto should be holdenheld ofin itits power. |
| 2:25 |
For David saithsays concerningof himHim, I beheldwas always beholding the Lord alwaysin before my facepresence; For heHe is onat my right hand, that I shouldmay not be moved:shaken. |
| 2:26 |
Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoicedexulted; Moreover my flesh also shallwill dwellabide in hope:; |
| 2:27 |
Because thouThou wilt not leaveabandon my soul untoto Hades, NeitherNor wiltallow thouThy give thy Holy One to seeundergo corruptiondecay. |
| 2:28 |
Thou madesthast made known untoto me the ways of life; Thou shaltwilt make me full of gladness with thyThy countenancepresence. |
| 2:29 |
Brethren, I may confidently say untoto you freelyregarding of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us untoto this day. |
| 2:30 |
BeingAnd thereforeso, because he was a prophet, and knowingknew that God had sworn to him with an oath to him, seat thatone of the fruit of his loinsdescendants he would set one upon his throne;, |
| 2:31 |
he foreseeinglooked thisahead spakeand spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that neitherHe was heneither leftabandoned untoto Hades, nor did hisHis flesh seesuffer corruptiondecay. |
| 2:32 |
This Jesus did God raiseraised up again, whereofto which we are all are witnesses. |
| 2:33 |
BeingTherefore thereforehaving bybeen exalted to the right hand of God exalted, and having received offrom the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, heHe hathhas poured forth this, which yeyou both see and hear. |
| 2:34 |
For it was not David who ascended not into theheaven, heavens: but he saith himself, says: The Lord said untoto my Lord, Sit thouat onMy my right hand, |
| 2:35 |
TillUntil I make thineThine enemies thea footstool offor thyThy feet. |
| 2:36 |
LetTherefore let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly, for certain that God hathhas made himHim both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom yeyou crucified. |
| 2:37 |
Now when they heard this, they were prickedpierced into theirthe heart, and said untoto Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do? |
| 2:38 |
And Peter said untoto them, Repent ye, and belet baptizedeach every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ untofor the remissionforgiveness of your sins; and yeyou shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. |
| 2:39 |
For tothe youpromise is thefor promise, you and to your children, and tofor all thatwho are afarfar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call untoto himHimself. |
| 2:40 |
And with many other words he solemnly testified, and exhortedkept on exhorting them, saying, SaveBe yourselvessaved from this crookedperverse generation.! |
| 2:41 |
TheySo then, thatthose who had received his word were baptized:; and there were added unto them in that day about three thousand souls. |
| 2:42 |
And they continuedwere stedfastlycontinually indevoting themselves to the apostles teaching and to fellowship, into the breaking of bread and theto prayersprayer. |
| 2:43 |
And feareveryone camekept uponfeeling everya soul:sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were donetaking place through the apostles. |
| 2:44 |
And all thatthose who had believed were together, and had all things in common; |
| 2:45 |
and they soldbegan selling their possessionsproperty and goodspossessions, and partedwere sharing them towith all, according as anyanyone manmight hadhave need. |
| 2:46 |
And day by day, continuing stedfastly with one accordmind in the temple, and breaking bread atfrom homehouse to house, they tookwere taking their foodmeals together with gladness and singlenesssincerity of heart, |
| 2:47 |
praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord addedwas adding to themtheir number day by day those thatwho were being saved. |
| 3:1 |
Now Peter and John were going up intoto the temple at the ninth hour of prayer, being the ninthhour hourof prayer. |
| 3:2 |
And a certain man thatwho washad been lame from his mothers womb was being carried along, whom they laidused dailyto set down every day at the doorgate of the temple which is called Beautiful, in order to askbeg alms of themthose thatwho enteredwere intoentering the temple;. |
| 3:3 |
whoAnd seeingwhen he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple, askedhe began asking to receive an alms. |
| 3:4 |
And Peter, fasteningalong with John, fixed his eyesgaze upon him, withand John, said, Look onat us.! |
| 3:5 |
And he gavebegan heedto untogive them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. |
| 3:6 |
But Peter said, SilverI anddo goldnot havepossess Isilver none;and gold, but what I do have, thatI give Ito thee.you: In the name of Jesus Christ ofthe Nazareth,Nazarene walk.! |
| 3:7 |
And heseizing took him by the right hand, andhe raised him up:; and immediately his feet and his ankleankles boneswere received strengthstrengthened. |
| 3:8 |
And leapingwith upa leap, he stood, upright and began to walk; and he entered the temple with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. |
| 3:9 |
And all the people saw him walking and praising God:; |
| 3:10 |
and they tookwere knowledgetaking note of him, thatas itbeing wasthe heone thatwho satused forto almssit at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; to beg alms, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at thatwhat which had happened untoto him. |
| 3:11 |
And aswhile he heldwas clinging to Peter and John, all the people ran together untoto them inat the porchso thatcalled isportico calledof SolomonsSolomon, greatlyfull wonderingof amazement. |
| 3:12 |
AndBut when Peter saw itthis, he answeredreplied untoto the people, YeMen men of Israel, why do you marvel ye at this, man? or why fastendo yeyou yourgaze eyesat on us, as thoughif by our own power or godlinesspiety we had made him to walk? |
| 3:13 |
The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hathhas glorified hisHis Servantservant Jesus;, the one whom yeyou delivered up, and denieddisowned beforein the facepresence of Pilate, when he had determineddecided to release himHim. |
| 3:14 |
But yeyou denieddisowned the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted untoto you, |
| 3:15 |
andbut killedput to death the Prince of life;, the one whom God raised from the dead;, whereofa fact to which we are witnesses. |
| 3:16 |
And byon the basis of faith in hisHis name, hathit hisis the name madeof Jesus which has strengthened this man strong, whom yeyou beholdsee and know:; yea,and the faith which iscomes through himHim hathhas given him this perfect soundnesshealth in the presence of you all. |
| 3:17 |
And now, brethren, I know that you acted in ignorance, yejust didas it,your asrulers did also your rulers. |
| 3:18 |
But the things which God foreshowedannounced beforehand by the mouth of all the prophets, that hisHis Christ should suffer, heHe has thus fulfilled. |
| 3:19 |
Repent ye therefore, and turn againreturn, that your sins may be blottedwiped outaway, in order that sotimes thereof refreshing may come seasons of refreshing from the presence of the Lord; |
| 3:20 |
and that heHe may send Jesus, the Christ who hath been appointed for you, even Jesus: |
| 3:21 |
whom the heaven must receive until the timesperiod of restoration of all things, whereofabout which God spakespoke by the mouth of hisHis holy prophets that have been from ofancient oldtime. |
| 3:22 |
Moses indeed said, AThe prophet shall the Lord God shall raise up untofor you froma amongprophet yourlike brethren,me likefrom untoyour mebrethren; to himHim you shall yegive hearkenheed in alleverything thingsHe whatsoeversays heto shall speak unto you. |
| 3:23 |
And it shall be, that every soul that shalldoes not hearkenheed to that prophet, shall be utterly destroyed from among the people. |
| 3:24 |
YeaAnd andlikewise, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and themhis thatsuccessors followed afteronward, as many as have spoken, they also toldannounced of these days. |
| 3:25 |
YeIt is you who are the sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with your fathers, saying untoto Abraham, And in thyyour seed shall all the families of the earth shall be blessed. |
| 3:26 |
UntoFor you first, God, having raised up hisHis Servant, and sent himHim to bless you, inby turning away every one of you from your iniquitieswicked ways. |
| 4:1 |
And as they spakewere untospeaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple guard, and the Sadducees, came upon them, |
| 4:2 |
being soregreatly troubleddisturbed because they taughtwere teaching the people, and proclaimedproclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. |
| 4:3 |
And they laid hands on them, and put them in wardjail untountil the morrow:next day, for it was nowalready eventideevening. |
| 4:4 |
But many of themthose thatwho had heard the wordmessage believed; and the number of the men came to be about five thousand. |
| 4:5 |
And it came toabout pass on the morrownext day, that their rulers and elders and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem; |
| 4:6 |
and Annas the high priest was there, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and asall manywho as were of thehighpriestly kindred of the high priestdescent. |
| 4:7 |
And when they had setplaced them in the midstcenter, they inquiredbegan to inquire, By what power, or in what name, have yeyou done this? |
| 4:8 |
Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said untoto them, YeRulers rulersand elders of the people, and elders, |
| 4:9 |
if we thisare dayon aretrial examinedtoday concerningfor a goodbenefit deed done to ana impotentsick man, byas whatto meanshow this man ishas been made whole;well, |
| 4:10 |
belet it be known untoto all of you all, and to all the people of Israel, that inby the name of Jesus Christ ofthe NazarethNazarene, whom yeyou crucified, whom God raised from the dead, evenby inthis himname doth this man standstands here before you wholein good health. |
| 4:11 |
He is the stone which was setrejected atby nought of you, the builders, but which wasbecame made the headvery ofcorner the cornerstone. |
| 4:12 |
And inthere noneis othersalvation isin thereno salvation:one else; for neitherthere is thereno any other name under heaven, that ishas been given among men, whereinby which we must be saved. |
| 4:13 |
Now whenas they beheldobserved the boldnessconfidence of Peter and John, and hadunderstood perceived that they were unlearneduneducated and ignorantuntrained men, they marvelled;were marveling, and theybegan tookto knowledgerecognize of them, thatas theyhaving had been with Jesus. |
| 4:14 |
And seeing the man thatwho washad been healed standing with them, they couldhad nothing to say nothingin against itreply. |
| 4:15 |
But when they had commandedordered them to go aside out of the councilCouncil, they conferredbegan amongto themselvesconfer with one another, |
| 4:16 |
saying, What shall we do towith these men? forFor the fact that indeed a notablenoteworthy miracle hathhas beentaken wroughtplace through them, is manifestapparent to all thatwho dwelllive in Jerusalem;, and we cannot deny it. |
| 4:17 |
But in order that it may not spread noany further among the people, let us threatenwarn them, thatto they speak henceforthno more to noany man in this name. |
| 4:18 |
And when they calledhad summoned them, andthey chargedcommanded them not to speak or teach at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. |
| 4:19 |
But Peter and John answered and said untoto them, Whether it is right in the sight of God to hearkengive untoheed to you rather than untoto God, you be the judge ye:; |
| 4:20 |
for we cannot butstop speakspeaking thewhat thingswe whichhave weseen saw and heard. |
| 4:21 |
And they, when they had further threatened them further, they let them go, finding nothingno howbasis on which they might punish them, becauseon account of the people;, forbecause they were all menglorifying glorified God for thatwhat whichhad was done.happened; |
| 4:22 |
Forfor the man was more than forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing washad wroughtbeen performed. |
| 4:23 |
And beingwhen letthey gohad been released, they camewent to their own companycompanions, and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said untoto them. |
| 4:24 |
And they, when they heard itthis, they lifted up their voicevoices to God with one accord, and said, O Lord, thouit thatis Thou who didst make the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that is in them is:, |
| 4:25 |
who by the Holy Spirit, bythrough the mouth of our father David thyThy servant, didst say, Why did the Gentiles rage, And the peoples imaginedevise vainfutile things? |
| 4:26 |
The kings of the earth settook themselvestheir in arraystand, And the rulers were gathered together, Against the Lord, and against hisHis Anointed:Christ. |
| 4:27 |
forFor oftruly a truth in this city there were gathered together against thyThy holy Servantservant Jesus, whom thouThou didst anoint, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, were gathered together, |
| 4:28 |
to do whatsoeverwhatever thyThy hand and thyThy councilpurpose foreordainedpredestined to come to passoccur. |
| 4:29 |
And now, Lord, looktake uponnote of their threatenings:threats, and grant untothat thyThy bond servants tomay speak thyThy word with all boldnessconfidence, |
| 4:30 |
while thouThou stretchestdost forthextend thyThy hand to heal;, and that signs and wonders maytake beplace done through the name of thyThy holy Servantservant Jesus. |
| 4:31 |
And when they had prayed, the place waswhere shaken wherein they werehad gathered together; was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and theybegan spaketo speak the word of God with boldness. |
| 4:32 |
And the multitudecongregation of themthose thatwho believed were of one heart and soul:; and not one of them saidclaimed that aughtanything ofbelonging theto thingshim which he possessed was his own; but they had all things were common property to them. |
| 4:33 |
And with great power gave the apostles theirwere giving witness ofto the resurrection of the Lord Jesus:, and greatabundant grace was upon them all. |
| 4:34 |
For neitherthere was therenot amonga themneedy anyperson thatamong lacked:them, for asall manywho as were possessorsowners of landsland or houses soldwould sell them, and broughtbring the pricesproceeds of the things that were soldsales, |
| 4:35 |
and laidlay them at the apostles feet:; and distributionthey waswould madebe untodistributed to each, according as any one had need. |
| 4:36 |
And Joseph, whoa byLevite theof apostlesCyprian wasbirth, surnamedwho Barnabaswas whichalso is,called beingBarnabas interpreted,by Sonthe ofapostles exhortation, which atranslated Levitemeans, aSon man of Cyprus by raceEncouragement, |
| 4:37 |
havingand who owned a fieldtract of land, sold it, and brought the money and laid it at the apostles feet. |
| 5:1 |
But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife Sapphira, sold a possessionpiece of property, |
| 5:2 |
and kept back partsome of the price, hisfor wifehimself, alsowith beinghis privywifes tofull itknowledge, and broughtbringing a certainportion partof it, andhe laid it at the apostles feet. |
| 5:3 |
But Peter said, Ananias, why hathhas Satan filled thyyour heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back partsome of the price of the land? |
| 5:4 |
While it remained unsold, did it not remain thineyour own? andAnd after it was sold, was it not inunder thyyour powercontrol? HowWhy is it that thouyou hasthave conceived this thingdeed in thyyour heart? thouYou hasthave not lied untoto men, but untoto God. |
| 5:5 |
And Ananiasas hearinghe heard these words, Ananias fell down and gavebreathed uphis thelast; ghost: and great fear came upon all thatwho heard of it. |
| 5:6 |
And the young men arose and wrappedcovered him roundup, and theyafter carriedcarrying him out, andthey buried him. |
| 5:7 |
AndNow itthere waselapsed aboutan theinterval space of about three hours after, whenand his wife came in, not knowing what washad done, came inhappened. |
| 5:8 |
And Peter answeredresponded untoto her, Tell me whether yeyou sold the land for sosuch much.and such a price? And she said, YeaYes, forthat sowas muchthe price. |
| 5:9 |
ButThen Peter said untoto her, HowWhy is it that yeyou have agreed together to tryput the Spirit of the Lord to the test? beholdBehold, the feet of themthose thatwho have buried thyyour husband are at the door, and they shall carry theeyou out as well. |
| 5:10 |
And she fell down immediately at his feet, and gavebreathed upher thelast; ghost: and the young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her bybeside her husband. |
| 5:11 |
And great fear came upon the whole church, and upon all thatwho heard of these things. |
| 5:12 |
And byat the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wroughtwere taking place among the people:; and they were all with one accord in Solomons porchportico. |
| 5:13 |
But none of the rest durstdared noto manassociate joinwith himself to them:; howbeithowever, the people magnifiedheld them; in high esteem. |
| 5:14 |
andAnd believersall were the more addedbelievers toin the Lord, multitudes both of men and women:, were constantly added to their number; |
| 5:15 |
insomuchto such an extent that they even carried out the sick out into the streets, and laid them on bedscots and couchespallets, so that, aswhen Peter came by, at the least his shadow might overshadowfall someon any one of them. |
| 5:16 |
And there also came together the multitudepeople from the cities roundin aboutthe vicinity of Jerusalem, bringingwere sickcoming folktogether, andbringing thempeople thatwho were vexedsick or afflicted with unclean spirits:; and they were healedall everybeing onehealed. |
| 5:17 |
But the high priest rose up, andalong with all theyhis associates that were with him which is the sect of the Sadducees, and they were filled with jealousy,; |
| 5:18 |
and they laid hands on the apostles, and put them in a public wardjail. |
| 5:19 |
But an angel of the Lord byduring the night opened the gates of the prison doors, and broughttaking them out, andhe said, |
| 5:20 |
Go yeyour way, and stand and speak into the templepeople toin the peopletemple all the wordswhole message of this Life. |
| 5:21 |
And whenupon theyhearing heard this, they entered into the temple about daybreak, and taughtbegan to teach. ButNow when the high priest came, and theyhis thatassociates werehad with himcome, andthey called the councilCouncil together, andeven all the senateSenate of the childrensons of Israel, and sent orders to the prison house for them to havebe them brought. |
| 5:22 |
But the officers thatwho came founddid not find them not in the prison; and they returned, and toldreported back, |
| 5:23 |
saying, TheWe found the prison house welocked foundquite shutsecurely in all safety, and the keepersguards standing at the doors:; but when we had opened up, we found no manone withininside. |
| 5:24 |
Now when the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests heard these words, they were muchgreatly perplexed concerningabout them whereuntoas thisto what would growcome of this. |
| 5:25 |
AndBut theresomeone came one and toldreported to them, Behold, the men whom yeyou put in the prison are standing in the temple standing and teaching the people.! |
| 5:26 |
Then went the captain went along with the officers, and broughtproceeded to bring them, butback without violence; for they fearedwere afraid of the people, lest they should be stoned. |
| 5:27 |
And when they had brought them, they setstood them before the councilCouncil. And the high priest askedquestioned them, |
| 5:28 |
saying, We strictlygave charged you strict orders not to teachcontinue teaching in this name:, and behold, yeyou have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this mans blood upon us. |
| 5:30 |
The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom yeyou slew, had put to death by hanging himHim on a treecross. |
| 5:31 |
HimHe didis the one whom God exaltexalted withto hisHis right hand toas be a Prince and a SaviourSavior, to givegrant repentance to Israel, and remissionforgiveness of sins. |

And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and they came upon him, and seizeddragged him away, and brought him intobefore the council,Council. |
| 6:13 |
andAnd setthey upput forward false witnesses, who said, This man ceasethincessantly notspeaks to speak words against this holy place, and the law:Law; |
| 6:14 |
for we have heard him say, that this Nazarene, Jesus, ofwill Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shallalter change the customs which Moses deliveredhanded untodown to us. |

| 7:6 |
AndBut God spakespoke onto this wiseeffect, that his seedoffspring shouldwould sojournbe aliens in a strangeforeign land, and that they shouldwould bringbe themenslaved into bondage, and treatmistreated themfor ill, four hundred years. |
| 7:7 |
And thewhatever nation to which they shall be in bondage I Myself will I judge, said God:, and after that shall they will come forth, out and serve meMe in this place. |

But as the time of the promise drewwas nighapproaching which God vouchsafedhad untoassured to Abraham, the people grewincreased and multiplied in Egypt, |
| 7:18 |
tilluntil there arose another king over Egypt, who knew notnothing about Joseph. |

TheIt samewas dealthe craftilywho withtook shrewd advantage of our race, and illmistreated treated our fathers, so that they shouldwould castexpose out their babesinfants toand the end they mightwould not livesurvive. |
| 7:20 |

And Moses was instructededucated in all the wisdomlearning of the Egyptians;, and he was mightya man of power in his words and worksdeeds. |
| 7:23 |
But when he was wellapproaching nighthe fortyage yearsof oldforty, it cameentered into his heartmind to visit his brethren, the childrensons of Israel. |
| 7:24 |
And seeingwhen he saw one of them sufferbeing wrongtreated unjustly, he defended him, and avengedtook himvengeance thatfor wasthe oppressed, smitingby striking down the Egyptian:. |
| 7:25 |
andAnd he supposed that his brethren understood that God by his hand was givinggranting them deliverance through him; but they understooddid not understand. |
| 7:26 |
And on the following day following he appeared untoto them as they strovewere fighting together, and wouldhe havetried setto reconcile them atin one againpeace, saying, SirsMen, yeyou are brethren;, why do yeyou wronginjure one to another? |
| 7:27 |
But hethe thatone didwho was injuring his neighbor wrongpushed thrust him away, saying, Who made theeyou a ruler and a judge over us? |
| 7:28 |

And whenafter forty years werehad fulfilledpassed, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of mountMount Sinai, in athe flame of firea inburning athorn bush. |
| 7:31 |
And when Moses saw it, he wonderedbegan to marvel at the sight:; and as he drewapproached near to beholdlook more closely, there came athe voice of the Lord,: |
| 7:32 |
I am the God of thyyour fathers, the God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob. And Moses trembled, shook with fear and durstwould not beholdventure to look. |
| 7:33 |
AndBut the Lord said untoto him, LooseTake off the shoessandals from thyyour feet:, for the place whereonon thouwhich standestyou are standing is holy ground. |
| 7:34 |
I have surelycertainly seen the afflictionoppression of myMy people that is in Egypt, and have heard their groaninggroans, and I amhave come down to deliver them:; andcome now come, and I will send theeyou intoto Egypt. |
| 7:35 |
This Moses whom they refuseddisowned, saying, Who made theeyou a ruler and a judge? himis haththe one whom God sent to be both a ruler and a deliverer with the handhelp of the angel thatwho appeared to him in the thorn bush. |
| 7:36 |
This man led them forthout, havingperforming wrought wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea,Sea and in the wilderness for forty years. |
| 7:37 |
This is thatthe Moses, who said untoto the childrensons of Israel, AGod prophet shall God raise up untofor you froma amongprophet yourlike brethren,me likefrom untoyour mebrethren. |
| 7:38 |
This is hethe thatone who was in the churchcongregation in the wilderness together with the angel thatwho spakewas speaking to him inon theMount mount Sinai, and who was with our fathers:; whoand he received living oracles to givepass untoon us:to you. |
| 7:39 |
toAnd whom our fathers wouldwere notunwilling to be obedient to him, but thrustrepudiated him from them, and turned back in their hearts untoturned back to Egypt, |
| 7:40 |
saying untoto Aaron, Make for us gods thatwho shallwill go before us:; for as for this Moses, who led us forth out of the land of Egypt, we knowdo not know what ishappened becometo of him. |
| 7:41 |
And at that time they made a calf in those days, and brought a sacrifice untoto the idol, and rejoicedwere rejoicing in the works of their hands. |
| 7:42 |
But God turned, away and gavedelivered them up to serve the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, DidIt yewas offernot untoto meMe slainthat beastsyou offered victims and sacrifices Fortyforty years in the wilderness, was it, O house of Israel? |
| 7:43 |
AndYou yealso took upalong the tabernacle of Moloch, Andand the star of the god RephanRompha, Thethe figuresimages which yeyou made to worship them:. And I also will carryremove you away beyond Babylon. |
| 7:44 |
Our fathers had the tabernacle of the testimony in the wilderness, evenjust as heHe appointed who spakespoke untoto Moses, thatdirected hehim shouldto make it according to the figurepattern thatwhich he had seen. |
| 7:45 |
WhichAnd alsohaving ourreceived fathers,it in their turn, our fathers brought it in with Joshua whenupon theydispossessing entered on the possession of the nations, thatwhom God thrustdrove out before the face of our fathers, untountil the daystime of David;. |
| 7:46 |
whoAnd David found favor in theGods sight of God, and asked tothat he might find a habitationdwelling place for the God of Jacob. |
| 7:47 |
But it was Solomon who built him a house for Him. |
| 7:48 |
HowbeitHowever, the Most High dwellethdoes not dwell in houses made withby human hands; as saith the prophet, says: |
| 7:49 |
TheHeaven heaven is myMy throne, And the earth is the footstool of myMy feet:; What mannerkind of house will yeyou build mefor Me? saithsays the Lord:; Or what place is thethere placefor ofMy my restrepose? |
| 7:50 |
DidWas it not myMy hand makewhich made all these things? |
| 7:51 |
YeYou stiffneckedmen who are stiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, yeare do always resistresisting the Holy Spirit:; you are doing just as your fathers did, so do ye. |
| 7:52 |
Which one of the prophets did not your fathers not persecute? andAnd they killed themthose thatwho showedhad beforepreviously ofannounced the coming of the Righteous One;, ofwhose whombetrayers yeand murderers you have now become betrayers and murderers; |
| 7:53 |
yeyou who received the law as it was ordained by angels, and keptyet itdid not keep it. |
| 7:54 |
Now when they heard these thingsthis, they were cut to the heartquick, and they gnashedbegan ongnashing himtheir withteeth theirat teethhim. |
| 7:55 |
But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, lookedhe upgazed stedfastlyintently into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing onat the right hand of God,; |
| 7:56 |
and he said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, up and the Son of manMan standing onat the right hand of God. |
| 7:57 |
But they cried out with a loud voice, and stoppedcovered their ears, and they rushed upon him with one accord;impulse. |
| 7:58 |
andAnd when they casthad driven him out of the city, andthey stonedbegan stoning him:, and the witnesses laid downaside their garmentsrobes at the feet of a young man named Saul. |
| 7:59 |
And they stonedwent on stoning Stephen, callingas he called upon the Lord, and sayingsaid, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.! |
| 7:60 |
And hefalling kneeledon downhis knees, andhe cried out with a loud voice, Lord, laydo not hold this sin toagainst theirthem! charge. And whenhaving he had said this, he fell asleep. |
| 8:1 |
And Saul was consentingin untohearty hisagreement with putting him to death. And there arose on that day a great persecution arose against the church which was in Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of JudaeaJudea and Samaria, except the apostles. |
| 8:2 |
And some devout men buried Stephen, and made greatloud lamentation over him. |
| 8:3 |
But Saul laidbegan wasteravaging the church, entering intohouse everyafter house,; and dragging off men and women, committedhe would put them toin prison. |
| 8:4 |
TheyTherefore, thereforethose thatwho werehad been scattered abroad went about preaching the word. |
| 8:5 |
And Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and proclaimedbegan untoproclaiming themChrist theto Christthem. |
| 8:6 |
And the multitudes gave heed with one accord untowere thegiving thingsattention thatto werewhat spokenwas said by Philip, whenas they heard, and saw the signs which he didwas performing. |
| 8:7 |
For fromin manythe case of thosemany thatwho had unclean spirits, they camewere coming out, cryingof them shouting with a loud voice:; and many thatwho werehad palsied, been paralyzed and that were lame, were healed. |
| 8:8 |
And there was much joyrejoicing in that city. |
| 8:9 |
ButNow there was a certain man, named Simon by name, who beforetimeformerly was practicing magic in the city used sorcery, and amazedastonishing the people of Samaria, givingclaiming outto thatbe himselfsomeone was some great one:; |
| 8:10 |
toand whom they all, gavefrom heedsmallest to greatest, fromwere thegiving leastattention to the greatesthim, saying, This man is thatwhat poweris ofcalled Godthe whichGreat isPower calledof GreatGod. |
| 8:11 |
And they gavewere heedgiving to him, attention because thathe ofhad for a long time heastonished had amazed them with his sorceriesmagic arts. |
| 8:12 |
But when they believed Philip preaching the good tidingsnews concerningabout the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were being baptized, both men and women alike. |
| 8:13 |
And even Simon also himself believed:; and after being baptized, he continued on with Philip; and beholdingas he observed signs and great miracles wroughttaking place, he was constantly amazed. |
| 8:14 |
Now when the apostles thatin were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:, |
| 8:15 |
who, whencame theydown wereand come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit:. |
| 8:16 |
forFor asHe yethad itnot wasyet fallen upon noneany of them:; only they had simply been baptized intoin the name of the Lord Jesus. |
| 8:17 |
Then laid they began laying their hands on them, and they receivedwere receiving the Holy Spirit. |
| 8:18 |
Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was bestowed through the laying on of the apostles hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, |
| 8:19 |
saying, Give this authority to me alsoas this powerwell, so that everyone on whomsoeverwhom I lay my hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit. |
| 8:20 |
But Peter said untoto him, ThyMay your silver perish with theeyou, because thouyou hast thought toyou could obtain the gift of God with money.! |
| 8:21 |
ThouYou hasthave neitherno part noror lotportion in this matter:, for thyyour heart is not right before God. |
| 8:22 |
RepentTherefore thereforerepent of this thywickedness wickednessof yours, and pray the Lord, that if perhapspossible, the thoughtintention of thyyour heart shallmay be forgiven theeyou. |
| 8:23 |
For I see that thouyou artare in the gall of bitterness and in the bondbondage of iniquity. |
| 8:24 |
AndBut Simon answered and said, Pray yeto the Lord for me toyourselves, theso Lord, that nonenothing of thewhat thingsyou whichhave yesaid havemay spoken come upon me. |
| 8:25 |
TheyAnd thereforeso, when they had solemnly testified and spoken the word of the Lord, returnedthey started back to Jerusalem, and preachedwere preaching the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans. |
| 8:26 |
But an angel of the Lord spakespoke untoto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south untoto the wayroad that goethdescends down from Jerusalem untoto Gaza:. theThis same is a desert road. |
| 8:27 |
And he arose and went:; and behold, athere manwas ofan EthiopiaEthiopian eunuch, a eunuchcourt official of great authority under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was overin charge of all her treasure,; whoand he had come to Jerusalem to worship;. |
| 8:28 |
andAnd he was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah. |
| 8:29 |
And the Spirit said untoto Philip, Go near,up and join thyself to this chariot. |
| 8:30 |
And when Philip ranhad torun himup, andhe heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, UnderstandestDo thouyou understand what thouyou readestare reading? |
| 8:31 |
And he said, HowWell, canhow could I, exceptunless somesomeone oneguides shall guide me? And he besoughtinvited Philip to come up and sit with him. |
| 8:32 |
Now the passage of theScripture scripture which he was reading was this,: He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; And as a lamb before hisits shearer is dumbsilent, So heHe openethdoes not hisopen His mouth:. |
| 8:33 |
In his humiliation hisHis judgment was taken away:; HisWho generationshall whorelate shallHis declaregeneration? For hisHis life is takenremoved from the earth. |
| 8:34 |
And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, IPlease praytell theeme, of whom speakethdoes the prophet say this? ofOf himself, or of somesomeone otherelse? |
| 8:35 |
And Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this scripture,Scripture he preached untoJesus to him Jesus. |
| 8:36 |
And as they went onalong the way, road they came untoto asome certain water; and the eunuch saithsaid, Behold,Look! hereWater! isWhat water;prevents what doth hinder me tofrom bebeing baptized? |
| 8:38 |
And he commandedordered the chariot to standstop; still: and they both went down into the water, both Philip andas well as the eunuch; and he baptized him. |
| 8:39 |
And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caughtsnatched Philip away Philip; and the eunuch saw him no more, forbut he went on his way rejoicing. |
| 8:40 |
But Philip was found himself at Azotus:; and passingas he passed through he preachedkept preaching the gospel to all the cities, tilluntil he came to Caesarea. |
| 9:1 |
ButNow Saul, yetstill breathing threateningthreats and slaughtermurder against the disciples of the Lord, went untoto the high priest, |
| 9:2 |
and asked offor him letters tofrom Damascushim untoto the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any thatbelonging wereto of the Way, whetherboth men orand women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. |
| 9:3 |
And as he journeyed, it came toabout pass that as he drewjourneyed, nighhe untowas approaching Damascus:, and suddenly therea shonelight roundfrom aboutheaven himflashed aaround light out of heaven:him; |
| 9:4 |
and he fell uponto the earthground, and heard a voice saying untoto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutestare thouyou mepersecuting Me? |
| 9:5 |
And he said, Who art thouThou, Lord? And heHe said, I am Jesus whom thouyou persecutest:are persecuting, |
| 9:6 |
but rise, and enter into the city, and it shall be told theeyou what thouyou must do. |
| 9:7 |
And the men thatwho journeyedtraveled with him stood speechless, hearing the voice, but beholdingseeing no manone. |
| 9:8 |
And Saul arosegot up from the earth;ground, and whenthough his eyes were openedopen, he sawcould see nothing; and theyleading led him by the hand, andthey brought him into Damascus. |
| 9:9 |
And he was three days without sight, and did neither eatate nor drinkdrank. |
| 9:10 |
Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and the Lord said untoto him in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, Ihere am hereI, Lord. |
| 9:11 |
And the Lord said untoto him, Arise, and go to the street which is called Straight, and inquire inat the house of Judas for one named Saul, a man offrom Tarsus: named Saul, for behold, he prayeth;is praying, |
| 9:12 |
and he hathhas seen in a vision a man named Ananias comingcome in, and layinglay his hands on him, so that he might receiveregain his sight. |
| 9:13 |
But Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard from many ofabout this man, how much evilharm he did to thyThy saints at Jerusalem:; |
| 9:14 |
and here he hathhas authority from the chief priests to bind all thatwho call upon thyThy name. |
| 9:15 |
But the Lord said untoto him, Go, thy way: for he is a chosen vesselinstrument untoof meMine, to bear myMy name before the Gentiles and kings, and the childrensons of Israel:; |
| 9:16 |
for I will show him how manymuch things he must suffer for myMy names sake. |
| 9:17 |
And Ananias departed, and entered into the house;, and after laying his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, who appeared untoto theeyou inon the wayroad by which thouyou camestwere coming, hathhas sent me, so that thouyou mayestmay receiveregain thyyour sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit. |
| 9:18 |
And straightwayimmediately there fell from his eyes assomething itlike were scales, and he receivedregained his sight;, and he arose and was baptized; |
| 9:19 |
and he took food and was strengthened. AndNow for several days he was certain days with the disciples thatwho were at Damascus., |
| 9:20 |
Andand straightwayimmediately he began to proclaim Jesus in the synagogues, he proclaimed Jesussaying, thatHe he is the Son of God. |
| 9:21 |
And all thatthose heardhearing him werecontinued to be amazed, and saidwere saying, Is this not this he thatwho in Jerusalem madedestroyed havocthose ofwho them that called on this name?, and hewho had come hitherhere for thisthe intent, purpose thatof hebringing might bring them bound before the chief priests.? |
| 9:22 |
But Saul increasedkept theincreasing more in strength, and confoundedconfounding the Jews thatwho dweltlived at Damascus, by proving that this Jesus is the Christ. |
| 9:23 |
And when many days werehad fulfilledelapsed, the Jews tookplotted counsel together to killdo away with him:, |
| 9:24 |
but their plot became known to Saul. And they watchedwere also watching the gates also day and night so that they might killput him: to death; |
| 9:25 |
but his disciples took him by night, and let him down through an opening in the wall, lowering him in a large basket. |
| 9:26 |
And when he washad come to Jerusalem, he assayedwas trying to joinassociate himselfwith to the disciples:; and they were all afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple. |
| 9:27 |
But Barnabas took hold of him, and brought him to the apostles, and declareddescribed untoto them how he had seen the Lord inon the wayroad, and that heHe had spokentalked to him, and how at Damascus he had preachedspoken out boldly in the name of Jesus. |
| 9:28 |
And he was with them goingmoving about freely in andJerusalem, goingspeaking out atboldly Jerusalem,in the name of the Lord. |
| 9:29 |
preachingAnd boldlyhe inwas thetalking name of the Lord: and hearguing spakewith and disputed against the GrecianHellenistic Jews; but they were seekingattempting to killput him to death. |
| 9:30 |
AndBut when the brethren knewlearned of it, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forthaway to Tarsus. |
| 9:31 |
So the church throughout all JudaeaJudea and Galilee and Samaria hadenjoyed peace, being edifiedbuilt up; and, walkinggoing on in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, wasit multipliedcontinued to increase. |
| 9:32 |
AndNow it came toabout pass, that as Peter wentwas throughouttraveling through all those parts, he came down also to the saints thatwho dweltlived at Lydda. |
| 9:33 |
And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, who had keptbeen hisbedridden bed eight years;, for he was palsiedparalyzed. |
| 9:34 |
And Peter said untoto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ healethheals thee:you; arise, and make thyyour bed. And straightwayimmediately he arose. |
| 9:35 |
And all thatwho dweltlived at Lydda and in Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord. |
| 9:36 |
Now in Joppa there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which bytranslated interpretationin Greek is called Dorcas:; this woman was fullabounding with deeds of goodkindness works and almsdeedscharity, which she continually did. |
| 9:37 |
And it came toabout passat inthat thosetime days, that she fell sick, and died:; and when they had washed her body, they laid herit in an upper chamberroom. |
| 9:38 |
And assince Lydda was nighnear unto Joppa, the disciples, hearinghaving heard that Peter was there, sent two men untoto him, entreating him, DelayDo not delay to come onto unto us. |
| 9:39 |
And Peter arose and went with them. And when he washad come, they brought him into the upper chamber:room; and all the widows stood bybeside him weeping, and showing all the coatstunics and garments whichthat Dorcas made, used to make while she was with them. |
| 9:40 |
But Peter putsent them all forth, out and kneeledknelt down, and prayed;, and turning to the body, he said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes;, and when she saw Peter, she sat up. |

| 10:29 |
whereforeThat alsois why I came without gainsaying, even raising any objection when I was sent for. And so I ask thereforefor with what intentreason yeyou have sent for me. |

And Cornelius said, Four days ago, untilto this hour, I was keepingpraying thein ninthmy hourhouse ofduring prayerthe inninth my househour; and behold, a man stood before me in brightshining apparelgarments, |

evenYou know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed himHim with the Holy Spirit and with power:, whoand how He went about doing good, and healing all thatwho were oppressed ofby the devil; for God was with himHim. |
| 10:39 |
And we are witnesses of all the things whichHe he did both in the countryland of the Jews, and in Jerusalem;. whomAnd they also theyput slew,Him to death by hanging himHim on a treecross. |
| 10:40 |
Him God raised Him up on the third day, and gavegranted himthat toHe beshould madebecome manifestvisible, |

| 10:42 |
And heHe chargedordered us to preach untoto the people, and solemnly to testify that this is hethe One who ishas ordainedbeen ofappointed by God toas be the Judge of the living and the dead. |
| 10:43 |
ToOf himHim bear all the prophets bear witness, that through hisHis name everyeveryone onewho thatbelieves believethin onHim himreceives shallforgiveness receive remission of sins. |
| 10:44 |
While Peter yetwas spakestill speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell onupon all themthose thatwho heardwere listening to the wordmessage. |
| 10:45 |
And theyall of the circumcisioncircumcised thatbelievers believedwho werehad amazed, come aswith manyPeter aswere came with Peteramazed, because thatthe ongift of the GentilesHoly alsoSpirit washad been poured out theupon gift of the HolyGentiles Spiritalso. |
| 10:46 |
For they heardwere hearing them speakspeaking with tongues, and magnifyexalting God. Then Peter answered Peter, |
| 10:47 |
CanSurely anyno manone forbidcan refuse the water, thatfor these shouldto not be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit just as wellwe asdid, wecan he? |
| 10:48 |
And he commandedordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then prayed they asked him to tarrystay certainon for a few days. |
| 11:1 |
Now the apostles and the brethren thatwho were inthroughout JudaeaJudea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. |
| 11:2 |
And when Peter wascame come up to Jerusalem, theythose thatwho were ofcircumcised thetook circumcisionissue contended with him, |
| 11:3 |
saying, ThouYou wentestwent in to uncircumcised men uncircumcised, and didstate eat with them. |
| 11:4 |
But Peter began, speaking and expoundedproceeded theto matterexplain untoto them in orderorderly sequence, saying, |

| 11:7 |
And I also heard also a voice saying untoto me, RiseArise, Peter; kill and eat. |
| 11:8 |
But I said, NotBy sono means, Lord:, for nothing commonunholy or unclean hathhas ever entered into my mouth. |
| 11:9 |
But a voice from heaven answered thea second time out of heaven, What God hathhas cleansed, makeno notlonger thouconsider commonunholy. |
| 11:10 |
And this washappened donethree thrice:times, and alleverything werewas drawn back up again into heaventhe sky. |
| 11:11 |
And behold, forthwithat that moment three men stoodappeared before the house in which we were staying, having been sent to me from Caesarea unto me. |

And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell onupon them, evenjust as onHe did upon us at the beginning. |
| 11:16 |
And I remembered the word of the Lord, how heHe saidused to say, John indeed baptized with water;, but yeyou shall be baptized inwith the Holy Spirit. |
| 11:17 |
If then God therefore gave untoto them the likesame gift as heHe didgave alsoto unto us, whenalso weafter believedbelieving onin the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstandstand Godin Gods way? |
| 11:18 |
And when they heard these thingsthis, they heldquieted their peacedown, and glorified God, saying, ThenWell then, God has granted to the Gentiles also haththe Godrepentance grantedthat repentanceleads untoto life. |
| 11:19 |

And when therean attempt was made anby onset both of the Gentiles and of the Jews with their rulers, to treatmistreat them shamefully and to stone them, |
| 14:6 |
they became aware of it, and fled untoto the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe, and the surrounding region round about:; |
| 14:7 |
and there they preachedcontinued to preach the gospel. |
| 14:8 |
And at Lystra there satwas sitting a certain man, impotentwithout strength in his feet, alame cripple from his mothers womb, who had never had walked. |
| 14:9 |
TheThis sameman heardwas listening to Paul speaking:as he spoke, who, fasteningwhen he had fixed his eyesgaze upon him, and seeinghad seen that he had faith to be made wholewell, |
| 14:10 |
said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thyyour feet. And he leaped up and walkedbegan to walk. |
| 14:11 |
And when the multitudemultitudes saw what Paul had done, they liftedraised up their voice, saying in the speechLycaonian of Lycaonialanguage, The gods arehave comebecome downlike tomen usand inhave thecome likenessdown ofto menus. |
| 14:12 |
And they calledbegan calling Barnabas, Jupiter;Zeus, and Paul, MercuryHermes, because he was the chief speaker. |
| 14:13 |
And the priest of JupiterZeus, whose temple was beforejust outside the city, brought oxen and garlands untoto the gates, and wouldwanted haveto doneoffer sacrifice with the multitudescrowds. |
| 14:14 |
But when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of it, they renttore their garments, robes and sprangrushed forthout amonginto the multitudecrowd, crying out |
| 14:15 |
and saying, SirsMen, why doare yeyou doing these things? We are also are men of likethe passionssame withnature as you, and bringpreach the gospel to you goodin tidings, order that yeyou should turn from these vain things untoto a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that is in them is:. |
| 14:16 |
whoAnd in the generations gone by sufferedHe permitted all the nations to walkgo in their own ways.; |
| 14:17 |
Andand yet heHe leftdid not himselfleave Himself without witness, in that heHe did good and gave you rains from heaven rains and fruitful seasons, fillingsatisfying your hearts with food and gladness. |
| 14:18 |
And witheven saying these sayingsthings, scarcethey with difficulty restrained they the multitudescrowds from doingoffering sacrifice untoto them. |
| 14:19 |
But thereJews came Jews thither from Antioch and Iconium:, and having persuadedwon over the multitudes, they stoned Paul, and dragged him out of the city, supposing thathim heto wasbe dead. |
| 14:20 |
But aswhile the disciples stood roundaround about him, he rosearose up, and entered into the city:. andAnd on the morrownext day he went forthaway with Barnabas to Derbe. |
| 14:21 |
And whenafter they had preached the gospel to that city, and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, and to Iconium, and to Antioch, |
| 14:22 |
confirmingstrengthening the souls of the disciples, exhortingencouraging them to continue in the faith, and thatsaying, throughThrough many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God. |
| 14:23 |
And when they had appointed elders for them elders in every church, andhaving had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, onin whom they had believed. |
| 14:24 |
And they passed through Pisidia, and came tointo Pamphylia. |
| 14:26 |
and thencefrom there they sailed to Antioch, from whencewhich they had been committedcommended to the grace of God for the work whichthat they had fulfilledaccomplished. |
| 14:27 |
And when they werehad come, arrived and had gathered the church together, they rehearsedbegan to report all things that God had done with them, and thathow heHe had opened a door of faith untoto the Gentiles. |
| 14:28 |
And they tarriedspent noa littlelong time with the disciples. |
| 15:1 |
And certainsome men came down from JudaeaJudea and taughtbegan teaching the brethren, saying,Unless Exceptyou yeare be circumcised afteraccording to the custom of Moses, yeyou cannot be saved. |
| 15:2 |
And when Paul and Barnabas had nogreat small dissension and questioningdebate with them, the brethren appointeddetermined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain otherothers of them, should go up to Jerusalem untoto the apostles and elders aboutconcerning this questionissue. |
| 15:3 |
They thereforeTherefore, being broughtsent on their way by the church, passedthey were passing through both Phoenicia and Samaria, declaringdescribing in detail the conversion of the Gentiles:, and theywere causedbringing great joy untoto all the brethren. |
| 15:4 |
And when they werearrived comeat to Jerusalem, they were received ofby the church and the apostles and the elders, and they rehearsedreported all things that God had done with them. |
| 15:5 |
But therecertain roseones up certain of the sect of the Pharisees who had believed, stood up, saying, It is needfulnecessary to circumcise them, and to chargedirect them to keepobserve the lawLaw of Moses. |
| 15:6 |
And the apostles and the elders werecame gathered together to considerlook ofinto this matter. |
| 15:7 |
And whenafter there had been much questioningdebate, Peter rosestood up, and said untoto them, Brethren, yeyou know that ain goodthe whileearly agodays God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. |
| 15:8 |
And God, who knowethknows the heart, barebore witness to them witness, giving them the Holy Spirit, evenjust as heHe also did untoto us; |
| 15:9 |
and heHe made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith. |
| 15:10 |
Now therefore why makedo yeyou trialput of God, thatto yethe shouldtest putby aplacing yoke upon the neck of the disciples a yoke which neither our fathers nor we werehave been able to bear? |
| 15:11 |
But we believe that we shallare be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in likethe mannersame way as they also are. |
| 15:12 |
And all the multitude kept silence;silent, and they hearkenedwere untolistening to Barnabas and Paul rehearsingas they were relating what signs and wonders God had wroughtdone through them among the Gentiles through them. |
| 15:13 |
And after they had heldstopped their peacespeaking, James answered, saying, Brethren, hearkenlisten untoto me:. |
| 15:14 |
SymeonSimeon hathhas rehearsedrelated how God first Godconcerned visitedHimself theabout Gentiles, taking tofrom takeamong outthe ofGentiles them a people for hisHis name. |
| 15:15 |
And towith this agree the words of the prophets;Prophets agree, just as it is written, |
| 15:16 |
After these things I will return, And I will buildrebuild again the tabernacle of David, which ishas fallen;, And I will buildrebuild againits the ruins thereof, And I will setrestore it up:, |
| 15:17 |
ThatIn order that the residuerest of menmankind may seek after the Lord, And all the Gentiles, uponwho whomare mycalled nameby isMy calledname, |
| 15:18 |
SaithSays the Lord, who makethmakes these things known from of old. |
| 15:19 |
WhereforeTherefore it is my judgment is, that we troubledo not themtrouble thatthose who are turning to God from among the Gentiles turn to God;, |
| 15:20 |
but that we write untoto them, that they abstain from thethings pollutionscontaminated ofby idols, and from fornication, and from what is strangled, and from blood. |
| 15:21 |
For Moses from ancient generations ofhas old hath in every city themthose thatwho preach him, beingsince he is read in the synagogues every sabbathSabbath. |
| 15:22 |
Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men outfrom ofamong theirthem company,to and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, chiefleading men among the brethren:, |
| 15:23 |
and they wrotesent thusthis letter by them, The apostles and the elders, brethren, unto the brethren who are ofelders, to the Gentilesbrethren in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia who are from the Gentiles, greeting:greetings. |
| 15:24 |
ForasmuchSince as we have heard that certainsome whoof wentour outnumber fromto uswhom we gave no instruction have troubleddisturbed you with their words, subvertingunsettling your souls; to whom we gave no commandment;, |
| 15:25 |
it seemed good untoto us, having comebecome toof one accordmind, to chooseselect out men andto send themto unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, |
| 15:26 |
men thatwho have hazardedrisked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
| 15:27 |
WeTherefore we have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who themselves will also shallreport tell you the same things by word of mouth. |
| 15:28 |
For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary thingsessentials: |
| 15:29 |
that yeyou abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication; from which if yeyou keep yourselves, itfree shallfrom besuch wellthings, with you. Farewill yedo well. Farewell. |
| 15:30 |
So they, when they were dismissedsent away, camethey went down to Antioch; and having gathered the multitudecongregation together, they delivered the epistleletter. |
| 15:31 |
And when they had read it, they rejoiced forbecause theof consolationits encouragement. |
| 15:32 |
And Judas and Silas, also being prophets themselves, alsoencouraged prophets, and exhortedstrengthened the brethren with manya words, lengthy and confirmed themmessage. |
| 15:33 |
And after they had spent some time there, they were dismissedsent inaway peace from the brethren untoin peace to those thatwho had sent them forthout. |
| 15:35 |
But Paul and Barnabas tarriedstayed in Antioch, teaching and preaching, with many others also, the word of the Lord, with many others also. |
| 15:36 |
And after some days Paul said untoto Barnabas, Let us return now and visit the brethren in every city whereinin which we proclaimed the word of the Lord, and see how they fareare. |
| 15:37 |
And Barnabas was mindeddesirous toof taketaking withJohn, themcalled John alsoMark, whoalong waswith calledthem Markalso. |
| 15:38 |
But Paul thoughtkept notinsisting goodthat tothey takeshould withnot themtake him along who withdrewhad fromdeserted them fromin Pamphylia, and wenthad not gone with them to the work. |
| 15:39 |
And there arose such a sharp contention, disagreement so that they partedseparated asunderfrom one from the otheranother, and Barnabas took Mark with him, and sailed away untoto Cyprus:. |
| 15:40 |
butBut Paul chose Silas, and went forthdeparted, being commendedcommitted by the brethren to the grace of the Lord. |
| 15:41 |
And he wentwas traveling through Syria and Cilicia, confirmingstrengthening the churches. |
| 16:1 |
And he came also to Derbe and to Lystra:. andAnd behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a JewessJewish thatwoman believed;who was a believer, but his father was a Greek., |
| 16:2 |
Theand samehe was well reportedspoken of by the brethren thatwho were atin Lystra and Iconium. |
| 16:3 |
HimPaul wouldwanted Paulthis haveman to go forth with him; and he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews thatwho were in those parts:, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. |
| 16:4 |
AndNow aswhile they wentwere onpassing their way through the cities, they deliveredwere themdelivering the decrees, to keep which had been ordaineddecided ofupon by the apostles and elders thatwho were atin Jerusalem, for them to observe. |
| 16:5 |
So the churches were being strengthened in the faith, and increasedwere increasing in number daily. |
| 16:6 |
And they wentpassed through the regionPhrygian ofand PhrygiaGalatian and Galatiaregion, having been forbidden ofby the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia; |
| 16:7 |
and when they werehad come overto against Mysia, they assayedwere trying to go into Bithynia;, and the Spirit of Jesus suffereddid not permit them not; |
| 16:9 |
And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: Therea wascertain a man of Macedonia was standing, beseechingand appealing to him, and saying, Come over intoto Macedonia, and help us. |
| 16:10 |
And when he had seen the vision, straightwayimmediately we sought to go forth into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel untoto them. |
| 16:11 |
SettingTherefore sailputting thereforeout to sea from Troas, we maderan a straight course to Samothrace, and on the day following to Neapolis; |
| 16:12 |
and from thencethere to Philippi, which is a leading city of Macedonia, the firstdistrict of the districtMacedonia, a Roman colony:; and we were staying in this city tarryingfor certainsome days. |
| 16:13 |
And on the sabbathSabbath day we went forthoutside without the gate byto a river sideriverside, where we supposedwere supposing that there waswould be a place of prayer; and we sat down, and spakebegan untospeaking to the women thatwho werehad come togetherassembled. |
| 16:14 |
And a certain woman named Lydia, afrom sellerthe city of purpleThyatira, ofa theseller city of Thyatirapurple fabrics, onea thatworshiper worshippedof God, heardwas us:listening; whoseand heart the Lord opened her heart to giverespond heedto unto the things which were spoken by Paul. |
| 16:15 |
And when she was baptized, and her household had been baptized, she besoughturged us, saying, If yeyou have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide therestay. And she constrainedprevailed upon us. |
| 16:16 |
And it camehappened tothat pass, as we were going to the place of prayer, that a certain maidslave girl having a spirit of divination met us, who broughtwas bringing her masters much gainprofit by soothsayingfortunetelling. |
| 16:17 |
TheFollowing same following after Paul and us, criedshe kept crying out, saying, These men are bond servants of the Most High God, who proclaimare untoproclaiming to you the way of salvation. |
| 16:18 |
And this she didcontinued doing this for many days. But Paul, beingwas soregreatly troubledannoyed, and turned and said to the spirit, I chargecommand theeyou in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.! And it came out at that very hourmoment. |
| 16:19 |
But when her masters saw that thetheir hope of theirprofit gain was gone, they laidseized hold on Paul and Silas, and dragged them into the marketplacemarket place before the rulersauthorities, |
| 16:20 |
and when they had brought them untoto the chief magistrates, they said, These men, beingare Jews, throwing doour exceedinglycity troubleinto ourconfusion, citybeing Jews, |
| 16:21 |
and setare forthproclaiming customs which it is not lawful for us to receive, accept or to observe, being Romans. |
| 16:22 |
And the multitudecrowd rose up together against them:, and the chief magistrates renttore their garmentsrobes off them, and commandedproceeded to beatorder them to be beaten with rods. |
| 16:23 |
And when they had laidinflicted many stripesblows upon them, they castthrew them into prison, chargingcommanding the jailorjailer to keepguard them safely:securely; |
| 16:24 |
whoand he, having received such a chargecommand, castthrew them into the inner prison, and madefastened their feet fast in the stocks. |
| 16:25 |
But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns untoof praise to God, and the prisoners were listening to them; |
| 16:26 |
and suddenly there wascame a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison house were shaken:; and immediately all the doors were opened;, and everyeveryones oneschains bands were loosedunfastened. |
| 16:27 |
And when the jailor, jailer beinghad been roused out of sleep and seeinghad seen the prison doors openopened, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped. |
| 16:28 |
But Paul cried out with a loud voice, saying, Do thyselfyourself no harm:, for we are all here.! |
| 16:29 |
And he called for lights and sprangrushed in, and, trembling forwith fear, he fell down before Paul and Silas, |
| 16:30 |
and after he brought them out, andhe said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? |
| 16:31 |
And they said, Believe onin the Lord Jesus, and thouyou shaltshall be saved, thouyou and thyyour househousehold. |
| 16:32 |
And they spakespoke the word of the Lord untoto him, together with all thatwho were in his house. |
| 16:33 |
And he took them thethat samevery hour of the night, and washed their stripes;wounds, and immediately he was baptized, he and all his, immediatelyhousehold. |
| 16:34 |
And he brought them up into his house, and set food before them, and rejoiced greatly, withhaving allbelieved hisin house,God havingwith believedhis inwhole Godhousehold. |
| 16:35 |
ButNow when itday was daycame, the chief magistrates sent thetheir serjeantspolicemen, saying, LetRelease those men go. |
| 16:36 |
And the jailorjailer reported thethese words to Paul, saying, The chief magistrates have sent to letrelease you. go:Now now therefore, come forth, out and go in peace. |
| 16:37 |
But Paul said untoto them, They have beaten us publicly,in uncondemnedpublic without trial, men thatwho are Romans, and have castthrown us into prison; and donow are they nowsending cast us outaway privilysecretly? nayNo verily;indeed! butBut let them come themselves and bring us out. |
| 16:38 |
And the serjeantspolicemen reported these words untoto the chief magistrates:. andAnd they fearedwere afraid when they heard that they were Romans;, |
| 16:39 |
and they came and besoughtappealed to them;, and when they had brought them out, they askedkept begging them to goleave away from the city. |
| 16:40 |
And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia:, and when they hadsaw seen the brethren, they comfortedencouraged them, and departed. |
| 17:1 |
Now when they had passedtraveled through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews:. |
| 17:2 |
andAnd Paul, according asto hisPauls custom was, he went into unto them, and for three sabbathSabbaths days reasoned with them from the scripturesScriptures, |
| 17:3 |
openingexplaining and alleginggiving evidence that it behooved the Christ had to suffer, and to rise again from the dead;, and thatsaying, thisThis Jesus, whom, saidI he,am Iproclaiming proclaimto unto you, is the Christ. |
| 17:4 |
And some of them were persuaded, and consortedjoined with Paul and Silas;, andalong with a great multitude of the devoutGodfearing Greeks and a greatnumber multitude, and of the chiefleading women not a few. |
| 17:5 |
But the Jews, beingbecoming movedjealous withand jealousy, taking tookalong untosome themwicked certainmen vilefrom fellowsthe ofmarket the rabbleplace, andformed gathering a crowd, mob and set the city onin an uproar; and assaultingcoming upon the house of Jason, they soughtwere seeking to bring them forthout to the people. |
| 17:6 |
And when they founddid not find them not, they draggedbegan dragging Jason and certainsome brethren before the rulerscity of the cityauthorities, cryingshouting, These thatmen who have turnedupset the world upsidehave down are come hitherhere also; |
| 17:7 |
whomand Jason hathhas received:welcomed them, and thesethey all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus. |
| 17:8 |
And they troubledstirred up the multitudecrowd and the rulers of the city, whenauthorities theywho heard these things. |
| 17:9 |
And when they had takenreceived securitya pledge from Jason and the restothers, they letreleased them go. |
| 17:10 |
And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas away by night untoto Beroea:Berea; whoand when they werearrived, comethey thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. |
| 17:11 |
Now these were more noble minded than those in Thessalonica, infor that they received the word with allgreat readiness of mindeagerness, examining the scripturesScriptures daily, to see whether these things were so. |
| 17:12 |
Many of them therefore believed;, alsoalong with a number of theprominent Greek women of honorable estate, and of men, not a few. |
| 17:13 |
But when the Jews of Thessalonica hadfound knowledgeout that the word of God washad been proclaimed ofby Paul atin BeroeaBerea also, they came thitherthere likewise, agitating and stirring up and troubling the multitudescrowds. |
| 17:14 |
And then immediately the brethren sent forth Paul out to go as far as to the sea:; and Silas and Timothy aboderemained there still. |
| 17:15 |
ButNow theythose thatwho conducted Paul brought him as far as Athens:; and receiving a commandmentcommand untofor Silas and Timothy thatto they should come to him withas allsoon speedas possible, they departed. |
| 17:16 |
Now while Paul waitedwas waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was being provoked within him as he beheldwas beholding the city full of idols. |
| 17:17 |
So he reasonedwas reasoning in the synagogue with the Jews and the devoutGod personsfearing Gentiles, and in the marketplacemarket place every day with themthose thatwho methappened himto be present. |
| 17:18 |
And certain also some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encounteredwere conversing with him. And some saidwere saying, What would this idle babbler wish to say? othersOthers, He seemethseems to be a setterproclaimer forth of strange gods:deities, because he preachedwas preaching Jesus and the resurrection. |
| 17:19 |
And they took hold of him, and brought him untoto the Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new teaching is, which isyou spokenare by theeproclaiming? |
| 17:20 |
For thouyou bringestare certainbringing some strange things to our ears:; we wouldwant to know therefore what these things mean. |
| 17:21 |
Now all the Athenians and the strangers sojourningvisiting there spentused to spend their time in nothing else, other butthan eithertelling to tell or tohearing hearsomething some new thing. |
| 17:22 |
And Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus, and said, YeMen men of Athens, in all things I perceiveobserve that yeyou are very religious in all respects. |
| 17:23 |
For aswhile I passedwas along, passing through and observedexamining the objects of your worship, I also found also an altar with this inscription, ToTO anAN UnknownUNKNOWN GodGOD. What therefore yeyou worship in ignorance, this I setproclaim forthto unto you. |
| 17:24 |
The God thatwho made the world and all things therein,in heit, beingsince He is Lord of heaven and earth, dwellethdoes not dwell in temples made with hands; |
| 17:25 |
neither is heHe served by menshuman hands, as though heHe needed anything, seeingsince heHe himselfHimself givethgives to all life, and breath, and all things; |
| 17:26 |
and heHe made offrom one, every nation of menmankind to dwelllive on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed seasonstimes, and the boundsboundaries of their habitation;, |
| 17:27 |
that they should seek God, if haplyperhaps they might feelgrope afterfor himHim and find himHim, though heHe is not far from each one of us:; |
| 17:28 |
for in himHim we live, and move, and haveexist, our being; as certain even some of your own poets have said, For we also are alsoHis his offspring. |
| 17:29 |
Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the GodheadDivine Nature is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, gravenan image formed by the art and devicethought of man. |
| 17:30 |
TheTherefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, therefore God overlooked;is but now hedeclaring commandethto men that they should all everywhere should repent:, |
| 17:31 |
inasmuchbecause asHe hehas hathfixed appointed a day in which heHe will judge the world in righteousness bythrough thea manMan whom heHe hathhas ordained;appointed, whereofhaving hefurnished hathproof givento assurance unto all men, inby thatraising heHim hath raised him from the dead. |
| 17:32 |
Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked;began to sneer, but others said, We willshall hear theeyou again concerning this yet again. |
| 17:33 |
ThusSo Paul went out fromof amongtheir themmidst. |
| 17:34 |
But certainsome men clavejoined unto him, and believed:, among whom also waswere Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them. |
| 18:1 |
After these things he departedleft from Athens, and camewent to Corinth. |
| 18:2 |
And he found a certain Jew named Aquila, a mannative of Pontus, byhaving race, recently lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to departleave from Rome:. andHe he came untoto them;, |
| 18:3 |
and because he was of the same trade, he abodestayed with them, and they wroughtwere working; for by their trade they were tentmakerstent makers. |
| 18:4 |
And he reasonedwas reasoning in the synagogue every sabbath,Sabbath and persuadedtrying to persuade Jews and Greeks. |
| 18:5 |
But when Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul wasbegan constraineddevoting byhimself completely to the word, solemnly testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ. |
| 18:6 |
And when they opposedresisted themselves and blasphemed, he shook out his raimentgarments and said untoto them, Your blood be upon your own heads;! I am clean:. fromFrom henceforthnow on I willshall go untoto the Gentiles. |
| 18:7 |
And he departed thence, from there and went intoto the house of a certain man named TitusTitius Justus, onea thatworshiper worshippedof God, whose house joinedwas hardnext to the synagogue. |
| 18:8 |
And Crispus, the rulerleader of the synagogue, believed in the Lord with all his house;household, and many of the Corinthians hearingwhen believed, they andheard were believing and being baptized. |
| 18:9 |
And the Lord said untoto Paul in the night by a vision, BeDo not be afraid any longer, but speakgo on speaking and holddo not thybe peace:silent; |
| 18:10 |
for I am with theeyou, and no man shallwill setattack onyou theein order to harm thee:you, for I have muchmany people in this city. |
| 18:11 |
And he dweltsettled there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them. |
| 18:12 |
But whenwhile Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him before the judgment seat, |
| 18:13 |
saying, This man persuadethpersuades men to worship God contrary to the law. |
| 18:14 |
But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said untoto the Jews, If indeed it were a matter of wrong or of wickedvicious villanycrime, O ye Jews, reasonit would thatbe Ireasonable shouldfor bearme to put up with you:; |
| 18:15 |
but if theythere are questions about words and names and your own law, look toafter it yourselves; I am notunwilling minded to be a judge of these matters. |
| 18:16 |
And he drove them away from the judgment seat. |
| 18:17 |
And they all laidtook hold onof Sosthenes, the rulerleader of the synagogue, and beatbegan beating him beforein front of the judgment seat. And Gallio caredwas fornot noneconcerned about any of these things. |
| 18:18 |
And Paul, having tarriedremained after this yet many days longer, took his leave of the brethren, and sailedput thenceout to sea for Syria, and with him were Priscilla and Aquila:. havingIn shornCenchrea he had his headhair incut, Cenchreae; for he hadwas keeping a vow. |
| 18:19 |
And they came to Ephesus, and he left them there:. butNow he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews. |
| 18:20 |
And when they asked him to abidestay for a longer time, he consenteddid not; consent, |
| 18:21 |
but taking his leave of them, and saying, I will return againto unto you again if God willwills, he set sail from Ephesus. |
| 18:22 |
And when he had landed at Caesarea, he went up and salutedgreeted the church, and went down to Antioch. |
| 18:23 |
And having spent some time there, he departed, and wentpassed successively through the Galatian region of Galatia, and Phrygia, instrengthening order, establishing all the disciples. |
| 18:24 |
Now a certain Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by racebirth, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus; and he was mighty in the scripturesScriptures. |
| 18:25 |
This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spakewas speaking and taughtteaching accurately the things concerning Jesus, knowingbeing acquainted only with the baptism of John:; |
| 18:26 |
and he began to speak out boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him untoaside them, and expoundedexplained untoto him the way of God more accurately. |
| 18:27 |
And when he waswanted minded to passgo overacross intoto Achaia, the brethren encouraged him, and wrote to the disciples to receivewelcome him:; and when he washad comearrived, he helped themgreatly muchthose thatwho had believed through grace; |
| 18:28 |
for he powerfully confutedrefuted the Jews, andin that publiclypublic, showingdemonstrating by the scripturesScriptures that Jesus was the Christ. |
| 19:1 |
And it came toabout pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper country came to Ephesus, and found certainsome disciples:, |
| 19:2 |
and he said untoto them, Did yeyou receive the Holy Spirit when yeyou believed? And they said untoto him, NayNo, we didhave not soeven muchheard aswhether hearthere whetheris thea Holy Spirit was given. |
| 19:3 |
And he said, Into what then were yeyou baptized? And they said, Into Johns baptism. |
| 19:4 |
And Paul said, John baptized with the baptism of repentance, sayingtelling unto the people thatto they should believe onin himHim thatwho shouldwas comecoming after him, that is, onin Jesus. |
| 19:5 |
And when they heard this, they were baptized intoin the name of the Lord Jesus. |
| 19:6 |
And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them;, and they spakebegan speaking with tongues, and prophesiedprophesying. |
| 19:7 |
And theythere were in all about twelve men. |
| 19:8 |
And he entered into the synagogue, and spakecontinued speaking out boldly for the space of three months, reasoning and persuading asthem toabout the things concerning the kingdom of God. |
| 19:9 |
But when some were becoming hardened and disobedient, speaking evil of the Way before the multitude, he departedwithdrew from them, and separatedtook away the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus. |
| 19:10 |
And this continuedtook place for the space of two years;, so that all theywho thatlived dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks. |
| 19:11 |
And God wroughtwas specialperforming extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul:, |
| 19:12 |
insomuchso that untohandkerchiefs theor sickaprons were even carried away from his body handkerchiefsto orthe apronssick, and the diseases departedleft from them, and the evil spirits went out. |
| 19:13 |
But certain also some of the strollingJewish Jews, exorcists, tookwho uponwent themfrom place to place, attempted to name over themthose thatwho had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, I adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preachethpreaches. |
| 19:14 |
And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew,Jewish a chief priest, whowere diddoing this. |
| 19:15 |
And the evil spirit answered and said untoto them, Jesus I knowrecognize Jesus, and Paul I know; about Paul, but who are yeyou? |
| 19:16 |
And the man, in whom was the evil spirit, was leaped on them, and masteredsubdued bothall of them, and prevailedoverpowered against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. |
| 19:17 |
And this became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, thatwho dweltlived atin Ephesus; and fear fell upon them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was being magnified. |
| 19:18 |
Many also of themthose thatwho had believed camekept coming, confessing, and declaringdisclosing their deedspractices. |
| 19:19 |
And notmany a few of themthose thatwho practisedpracticed magicalmagic arts brought their books together and burnedbegan burning them in the sight of all; and they counted up the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. |
| 19:20 |
So mightily grew the word of the Lord was growing mightily and prevailedprevailing. |
| 19:21 |
Now after these things were endedfinished, Paul purposed in the spirit, whento go to Jerusalem after he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome. |
| 19:22 |
And having sent into Macedonia two of themthose thatwho ministered untoto him, Timothy and Erastus, he himself stayed in Asia for a while. |
| 19:23 |
And about that time there arose no small stirdisturbance concerning the Way. |
| 19:24 |
For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of DianaArtemis, broughtwas bringing no little business untoto the craftsmen; |
| 19:25 |
whomthese he gathered together, with the workmen of likesimilar occupationtrades, and said, SirsMen, yeyou know that byour thisprosperity businessdepends weupon havethis our wealthbusiness. |
| 19:26 |
And yeyou see and hear, that not aloneonly atin Ephesus, but in almost throughout all of Asia, this Paul hathhas persuaded and turned away mucha considerable number of people, saying that theygods made with hands are no gods, thatat are made with hands:all. |
| 19:27 |
andAnd not only is there danger that this our trade comeof ours fall into disrepute;, but also that the temple of the great goddess DianaArtemis be maderegarded ofas noworthless account, and that she shouldwhom evenall beof deposedAsia fromand herthe magnificenceworld whomworship allshould Asiaeven andbe thedethroned worldfrom worshippethher magnificence. |
| 19:28 |
And when they heard this theyand were filled with wrathrage, andthey criedbegan crying out, saying, Great is DianaArtemis of the Ephesians.! |
| 19:29 |
And the city was filled with the confusion:, and they rushed with one accord into the theatretheater, havingdragging seizedalong Gaius and Aristarchus, menPauls oftraveling Macedonia, Pauls companions infrom travelMacedonia. |
| 19:30 |
And when Paul waswanted minded to entergo ininto unto the peopleassembly, the disciples sufferedwould not let him not. |
| 19:31 |
And certain also some of the Asiarchs, beingwho hiswere friends, of his sent untoto him and besoughtrepeatedly urged him not to adventureventure himself into the theatretheater. |
| 19:32 |
SomeSo thereforethen, criedsome were shouting one thing, and some another:, for the assembly was in confusion;, and the moremajority partdid knew not whereforeknow for what cause they werehad come together. |
| 19:33 |
And theysome broughtof Alexanderthe outcrowd ofconcluded theit multitudewas Alexander, since the Jews puttinghad put him forward.; Andand Alexanderhaving beckonedmotioned with thehis hand, andAlexander wouldwas haveintending madeto make a defencedefense untoto the peopleassembly. |
| 19:34 |
But when they perceivedrecognized that he was a Jew, alla withsingle oneoutcry voicearose aboutfrom thethem spaceall ofas they shouted for about two hours cried out, Great is DianaArtemis of the Ephesians.! |
| 19:35 |
And whenafter thequieting townclerk had quieted the multitude, hethe saithtown clerk said, YeMen men of Ephesus, what man is there after all who knowethdoes not know that the city of the Ephesians is guardian of the temple keeper of the great DianaArtemis, and of the image which fell down from Jupiterheaven? |
| 19:36 |
SeeingSince then that these thingsare cannotundeniable be gainsaidfacts, yeyou ought to bekeep quiet, calm and to do nothing rash. |
| 19:37 |
For yeyou have brought hither these men, here who are neither robbers of temples nor blasphemers of our goddess. |
| 19:38 |
IfSo thereforethen, if Demetrius, and the craftsmen thatwho are with him, have a mattercomplaint against any man, the courts are open,in session and thereproconsuls are proconsuls:available; let them accusebring charges against one another. |
| 19:39 |
But if yeyou seekwant anything aboutbeyond other mattersthis, it shall be settled in the regularlawful assembly. |
| 19:40 |
For indeed we are in danger toof bebeing accused concerningof thisa daysriot riotin connection with todays affair, since there beingis no real cause for it:; and asin touchingthis itconnection we shall not be ableunable to give account offor this concoursedisorderly gathering. |
| 19:41 |
And whenafter hesaying hadthis thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly. |
| 20:1 |
And after the uproar had ceased, Paul having sent for the disciples and when he had exhorted them, tookand taken his leave of them, andhe departed to go intoto Macedonia. |
| 20:2 |
And when he had gone through those parts, districts and had given them much exhortation, he came intoto Greece. |
| 20:3 |
And whenthere he had spent three months there, and when a plot was laidformed against him by the Jews as he was about to set sail for Syria, he determined to return through Macedonia. |
| 20:4 |
And therehe was accompanied himby as far as Asia, Sopater of BeroeaBerea, the son of Pyrrhus; and ofby the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus of the Thessalonians; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timothy; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus of Asia. |
| 20:5 |
But these had gone before,on ahead and were waiting for us at Troas. |
| 20:6 |
And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavenedUnleavened breadBread, and came untoto them toat Troas inwithin five days; whereand there we tarriedstayed seven days. |
| 20:7 |
And uponon the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul discoursedbegan withtalking to them, intending to depart on the morrow;next day, and he prolonged his speechmessage until midnight. |
| 20:8 |
And there were many lightslamps in the upper chamberroom where we were gathered together. |
| 20:9 |
And there satwas in the window a certain young man named Eutychus sitting on the window sill, bornesinking downinto witha deep sleep; and as Paul discoursedkept yeton longertalking, beinghe bornewas downovercome by his sleep heand fell down from the third storyfloor, and was takenpicked up dead. |
| 20:10 |
AndBut Paul went down, and fell onupon him, and after embracing him, he said, MakeDo yenot nobe ado;troubled, for his life is in him. |
| 20:11 |
And when he washad gone back up, and had broken the bread, and eaten, andhe had talked with them a long while, evenuntil tilldaybreak, breakand of day, so he departed. |
| 20:12 |
And they broughttook away the ladboy alive, and were notgreatly a little comforted. |
| 20:13 |
But we, going beforeahead to the ship, set sail for Assos, intending from there intending to take in Paul: on board; for sothus he had hearranged appointedit, intending himself to go by land. |
| 20:14 |
And when he met us at Assos, we took him in,on board and came to Mitylene. |
| 20:15 |
And sailing from thencethere, we camearrived the following day overopposite against Chios; and the next day we touchedcrossed atover to Samos; and the day afterfollowing we came to Miletus. |
| 20:16 |
For Paul had determineddecided to sail past Ephesus, in order that he might not have to spend time in Asia; for he was hastening, hurrying ifto itbe werein possibleJerusalem, forif himpossible, toon be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost. |
| 20:17 |
And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called to him the elders of the church. |
| 20:18 |
And when they werehad come to him, he said untoto them, YeYou yourselves know, from the first day that I set foot in Asia, afterhow what manner I was with you all the whole time, |
| 20:19 |
serving the Lord with all lowlinesshumility of mind, and with tears, and with trials which befellcame upon me bythrough the plots of the Jews; |
| 20:20 |
how I shrankdid not shrink from declaring untoto you anything that was profitable, and teaching you publicly, and from house to house, |
| 20:21 |
solemnly testifying to both to Jews and to Greeks of repentance toward God, and faith towardin our Lord Jesus Christ. |
| 20:22 |
And now, behold, bound in spirit, I goam boundon inmy theway spiritto unto Jerusalem, not knowing thewhat thingswill thathappen shallto befall me there:, |
| 20:23 |
saveexcept that the Holy Spirit testifiethsolemnly untotestifies to me in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abideawait me. |
| 20:24 |
But I holddo not consider my life of any account as dear untoto myself, soin order that I may accomplishfinish my course, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God. |
| 20:25 |
And now, behold, I know that yeall allof you, among whom I went about preaching the kingdom, shallwill see my face no more. |
| 20:26 |
WhereforeTherefore I testify untoto you this day, that I am pureinnocent fromof the blood of all men. |
| 20:27 |
For I shrankdid not shrink from declaring untoto you the whole counselpurpose of God. |
| 20:28 |
TakeBe heedon untoguard for yourselves, and tofor all the flock, inamong which the Holy Spirit hathhas made you bishopsoverseers, to feedshepherd the church of theGod Lord which heHe purchased with hisHis own blood. |
| 20:29 |
I know that after my departingdeparture grievoussavage wolves shallwill entercome in among you, not sparing the flock; |
| 20:30 |
and from among your own selves shall men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them. |
| 20:31 |
WhereforeTherefore watchbe yeon the alert, remembering that bynight theand spaceday for a period of three years I ceaseddid not cease to admonish everyeach one night and day with tears. |
| 20:32 |
And now I commend you to God, and to the word of hisHis grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you the inheritance among all themthose thatwho are sanctified. |
| 20:33 |
I have coveted no mansones silver, or gold, or apparelclothes. |
| 20:34 |
YeYou yourselves know that these hands ministered untoto my necessities, own needs and to themthe thatmen who were with me. |
| 20:35 |
In alleverything things I gaveshowed you anthat example,by thatworking sohard laboringin yethis oughtmanner toyou must help the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that heHe himselfHimself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. |
| 20:36 |
And when he had thussaid spokenthese things, he kneeledknelt down and prayed with them all. |
| 20:37 |
And they allbegan weptto sore, weep aloud and fellembraced onPaul, Paulsand neckrepeatedly and kissed him, |
| 20:38 |
sorrowinggrieving mostespecially ofover all for the word which he had spoken, that they should beholdsee his face no more. And they broughtwere accompanying him onto his way unto the ship. |
| 21:1 |
And when it came toabout pass that we werehad parted from them and had set sail, we cameran with a straight course untoto Cos, and the next day untoto Rhodes, and from thencethere untoto Patara:; |
| 21:2 |
and having found a ship crossing over untoto Phoenicia, we went aboard, and set sail. |
| 21:3 |
And when we had come in sight of Cyprus, leaving it on the left hand, we sailedkept untosailing to Syria, and landed at Tyre; for there the ship was to unladeunload herits burdencargo. |
| 21:4 |
And havingafter foundlooking up the disciples, we tarriedstayed there seven days:; and thesethey saidkept totelling Paul through the Spirit, thatnot heto should not set foot in Jerusalem. |
| 21:5 |
And when it came toabout pass that weour haddays accomplishedthere thewere daysended, we departed and wentstarted on our journey;, andwhile they all, with wives and children, broughtescorted us onuntil our way till we were out of the city:. andAnd after kneeling down on the beach and praying, we prayed, said andfarewell badeto eachone other farewell;another. |
| 21:6 |
andThen we went on board the ship, butand they returned home again. |
| 21:7 |
And when we had finished the voyage from Tyre, we arrived at Ptolemais; and weafter salutedgreeting the brethren, andwe abodestayed with them onefor a day. |
| 21:8 |
And on the morrownext day we departed, and came untoto Caesarea:; and entering into the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, we abodestayed with him. |
| 21:9 |
Now this man had four virgin daughters, who prophesiedwere prophetesses. |
| 21:10 |
And as we tarriedwere staying there for some days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus came down from Judea. |
| 21:11 |
And coming to us, andhe takingtook Pauls girdle, belt heand bound his own feet and hands, and said, ThusThis saithis what the Holy Spirit, Sosays: shallIn this way the Jews at Jerusalem will bind the man thatwho ownethowns this girdle, belt and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles. |
| 21:12 |
And when we had heard these thingsthis, both we andas theywell ofas thatthe placelocal besoughtresidents began begging him not to go up to Jerusalem. |
| 21:13 |
Then Paul answered, What doare yeyou doing, weeping and breaking my heart? forFor I am ready not only to be bound only, but alsoeven to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus. |
| 21:14 |
And whensince he would not be persuaded, we ceasedfell silent, sayingremarking, The will of the Lord be done.! |
| 21:15 |
And after these days we tookgot upready ourand baggagestarted andon wentour way up to Jerusalem. |
| 21:16 |
And theresome went with us also certain of the disciples from Caesarea, bringingalso came with themus, onetaking us to Mnason of Cyprus, ana early disciple, of long standing with whom we shouldwere to lodge. |
| 21:17 |
And when we werehad come to Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly. |
| 21:18 |
And now the following day following Paul went in with us untoto James;, and all the elders were present. |
| 21:19 |
And whenafter he had salutedgreeted them, he rehearsedbegan to relate one by one the things which God had wroughtdone among the Gentiles through his ministry. |
| 21:20 |
And they, when they heard it, glorifiedthey began glorifying God; and they said untoto him, ThouYou seestsee, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of themthose thatwho have believed;, and they are all zealous for the law:Law; |
| 21:21 |
and they have been informedtold concerningabout theeyou, that thouyou teachestare teaching all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children, neithernor to walk afteraccording to the customs. |
| 21:22 |
What, then, is itto thereforebe done? theyThey will certainly hear that thouyou arthave come. |
| 21:23 |
DoTherefore thereforedo this that we saytell toyou. thee: We have four men thatwho haveare under a vow on them; |
| 21:24 |
these take, them and purify thyselfyourself along with them, and bepay attheir chargesexpenses forin them, order that they may shave their heads:; and all shallwill know that there is nonothing truthto in the things whereofwhich they have been informedtold concerningabout thee;you, but that thouyou thyselfyourself also walkestwalk orderly, keeping the lawLaw. |
| 21:25 |
But asconcerning touching the Gentiles thatwho have believed, we wrote, givinghaving judgmentdecided that they should keepabstain themselves from thingsmeat sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what is strangled, and from fornication. |
| 21:26 |
Then Paul took the men, and the next day, purifying himself along with them, went into the temple, declaringgiving notice of the fulfilmentcompletion of the days of purification, until the offeringsacrifice was offered for everyeach one of them. |
| 21:27 |
And when the seven days were almost completedover, the Jews from Asia, whenupon theyseeing saw him in the temple, stirredbegan to stir up all the multitude and laid hands on him, |
| 21:28 |
crying out, Men of Israel, help:come to our aid! This is the man thatwho teachethpreaches to all men everywhere against theour people, and the lawLaw, and this place; and moreoverbesides he has even brought Greeks also into the temple, and hathhas defiled this holy place. |
| 21:29 |
For they had beforepreviously seen withTrophimus himthe Ephesian in the city Trophimuswith the Ephesianhim, whomand they supposed that Paul had brought him into the temple. |
| 21:30 |
And all the city was movedaroused, and the people ranrushed together; and theytaking laid hold onof Paul, andthey dragged him out of the temple:; and straightwayimmediately the doors were shut. |
| 21:31 |
And aswhile they were seeking to kill him, tidingsa report came up to the chiefcommander captain of the band,Roman cohort that all Jerusalem was in confusion. |
| 21:32 |
And forthwithat once he took along some soldiers and centurions, and ran down uponto them:; and they, when they saw the chiefcommander captain and the soldiers, leftthey offstopped beating Paul. |
| 21:33 |
Then the chiefcommander captain came near,up and laidtook hold onof him, and commandedordered him to be bound with two chains; and inquiredhe began asking who he was, and what he had done. |
| 21:34 |
AndBut among the crowd some shoutedwere shouting one thing, and some another, among the crowd: and when he could not knowfind out the certaintyfacts foron account of the uproar, he commandedordered him to be brought into the castlebarracks. |
| 21:35 |
And when he camegot uponto the stairs, it so ithappened was that he was bornecarried ofby the soldiers forbecause of the violence of the crowdmob; |
| 21:36 |
for the multitude of the people followedkept afterfollowing behind, crying out, Away with him.! |
| 21:37 |
And as Paul was about to be brought into the castlebarracks, he saithsaid untoto the chief captaincommander, May I say something untoto theeyou? And he said, DostDo thouyou know Greek? |
| 21:38 |
ArtThen thouyou are not then the Egyptian, who beforesome thesetime daysago stirred up toa seditionrevolt and led out into the wilderness the four thousand men of the Assassins out into the wilderness? |
| 21:39 |
But Paul said, I am a Jew, of Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no meaninsignificant city:; and I beseechbeg theeyou, giveallow me leave to speak untoto the people. |
| 21:40 |
And when he had given him leavepermission, Paul, standing on the stairs, beckonedmotioned withto the handpeople untowith thehis peoplehand; and when there was made a great silencehush, he spakespoke untoto them in the Hebrew languagedialect, saying, |
| 22:1 |
Brethren and fathers, hear yemy thedefense defence which I now makeoffer untoto you. |
| 22:2 |
And when they heard that he spakewas untoaddressing them in the Hebrew languagedialect, they werebecame theeven more quiet:; and he saithsaid, |
| 22:3 |
I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city, ateducated theunder feet of Gamaliel, instructedstrictly according to the strict manner of the law of our fathers, being zealous for God, evenjust as yeyou all are this day:today. |
| 22:4 |
andAnd I persecuted this Way untoto the death, binding and deliveringputting into prisons both men and women. into prisons, |
| 22:5 |
Asas also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estateCouncil of the elders: fromcan whomtestify. alsoFrom them I also received letters untoto the brethren, and journeyedstarted tooff for Damascus in order to bring themeven alsothose thatwho were there untoto Jerusalem inas bondsprisoners to be punished. |
| 22:6 |
And it came toabout pass, that, as I madewas on my journeyway, andapproaching drew nigh unto Damascus, about noonnoontime, suddenlya therevery shonebright fromlight heavensuddenly aflashed greatfrom lightheaven roundall aboutaround me., |
| 22:7 |
Andand I fell untoto the ground, and heard a voice saying untoto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutestare thouyou mepersecuting Me? |
| 22:8 |
And I answered, Who art thouThou, Lord? And heHe said untoto me, I am Jesus ofthe NazarethNazarene, whom thouyou persecutestare persecuting. |
| 22:9 |
And theythose thatwho were with me beheld indeed the light, to be sure, but theydid heard not understand the voice of himthe thatOne spakewho was speaking to me. |
| 22:10 |
And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said untoto me, Arise, and go on into Damascus; and there ityou shallwill be told thee of all thingsthat whichhas arebeen appointed for theeyou to do. |
| 22:11 |
AndBut whensince I could not see forbecause of the glorybrightness of that light, beingI was led by the hand ofby themthose thatwho were with me, Iand came into Damascus. |
| 22:12 |
And onea certain Ananias, a man who was devout manby accordingthe tostandard of the lawLaw, and well reportedspoken of by all the Jews thatwho dweltlived there, |
| 22:13 |
came untoto me, and standing bynear me said untoto me, Brother Saul, receive thyyour sight.! And inat that very hourtime I looked up onat him. |
| 22:14 |
And he said, The God of our fathers hathhas appointed theeyou to know hisHis will, and to see the Righteous One, and to hear aan voiceutterance from hisHis mouth. |
| 22:15 |
For thouyou shaltwill be a witness for himHim untoto all men of what thouyou hasthave seen and heard. |
| 22:16 |
And now why tarriestdo thouyou delay? ariseArise, and be baptized, and wash away thyyour sins, calling on hisHis name. |
| 22:17 |
And it came toabout pass, that, when I had returned to Jerusalem, and whilewas Ipraying prayed in the temple, that I fell into a trance, |
| 22:18 |
and I saw himHim saying untoto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem; quickly, because they will not receiveaccept ofyour thee testimony concerningabout meMe. |
| 22:19 |
And I said, Lord, they themselves knowunderstand that in one synagogue after another I imprisonedused to imprison and beat inthose everywho synagogue them that believed onin thee:Thee. |
| 22:20 |
andAnd when the blood of StephenThy thy witness Stephen was being shed, I also was standing by approving, and consenting, watching andout keepingfor the garmentscloaks of themthose thatwho slewwere slaying him. |
| 22:21 |
And heHe said untoto me, Depart:Go! forFor I will send theeyou forth far henceaway untoto the Gentiles. |
| 22:22 |
And they gavelistened to him audienceup untoto this word;statement, and then they liftedraised up their voice, voices and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth:, for ithe isshould not fitbe thatallowed heto should live.! |
| 22:23 |
And as they criedwere crying out, and threwthrowing off their garments, cloaks and casttossing dust into the air, |
| 22:24 |
the chiefcommander captainordered commanded him to be brought into the castlebarracks, biddingstating that he should be examined by scourging, so that he might knowfind forout whatthe causereason why they sowere shoutedshouting against him that way. |
| 22:25 |
And when they hadstretched tied him upout with the thongs, Paul said untoto the centurion thatwho stoodwas standing by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man thatwho is a Roman, and uncondemned? |
| 22:26 |
And when the centurion heard itthis, he went to the chiefcommander captain and told him, saying, What artare thouyou about to do? forFor this man is a Roman. |
| 22:27 |
And the chiefcommander captain came and said untoto him, Tell me, artare thouyou a Roman? And he said, YeaYes. |
| 22:28 |
And the chiefcommander captain answered, WithI acquired this citizenship with a greatlarge sum obtainedof I this citizenshipmoney. And Paul said, But I amwas actually born a Roman borncitizen. |
| 22:29 |
TheyTherefore thenthose thatwho were about to examine him straightwayimmediately departedlet fromgo of him:; and the chiefcommander captain also was afraid when he knewfound out that he was a Roman, and because he had boundput him in chains. |
| 22:30 |
But on the morrownext day, desiringwishing to know thefor certaintycertain whereforewhy he washad been accused ofby the Jews, he loosedreleased him, and commandedordered the chief priests and all the councilCouncil to come togetherassemble, and brought Paul down and set him before them. |
| 23:1 |
And Paul, looking stedfastlyintently onat the councilCouncil, said, Brethren, I have lived beforemy Godlife inwith alla perfectly good conscience untilbefore God up to this day. |
| 23:2 |
And the high priest Ananias commanded themthose thatstanding stoodbeside by him to smitestrike him on the mouth. |
| 23:3 |
Then Paul said Paulto unto him, God shallis smitegoing theeto strike you, thouyou whitedwhitewashed wall:! andAnd sittestdo thouyou sit to judgetry me according to the lawLaw, and commandestin meviolation toof bethe smittenLaw contraryorder me to thebe lawstruck? |
| 23:4 |
AndBut theythe thatbystanders stood by said, RevilestDo thouyou revile Gods high priest? |
| 23:5 |
And Paul said, I knewwas not aware, brethren, that he was high priest:; for it is written, ThouYou shaltshall not speak evil of a ruler of thyyour people. |
| 23:6 |
But whenperceiving Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, hePaul criedbegan crying out in the councilCouncil, Brethren, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees:; touchingI am on trial for the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.! |
| 23:7 |
And whenas he hadsaid so saidthis, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and Sadducees; and the assembly was divided. |
| 23:8 |
For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neithernor an angel, nor a spirit; but the Pharisees confessacknowledge boththem all. |
| 23:9 |
And there arose a great clamor:uproar; and some of the scribes of the PhariseesPharisaic partparty stood up, and strovebegan to argue heatedly, saying, We find nonothing evilwrong inwith this man:; andsuppose what if a spirit hathor an angel has spoken to him, or an angel? |
| 23:10 |
And whenas there arose a great dissension was developing, the chiefcommander captain, was fearingafraid lest Paul shouldwould be torn into pieces by them, commandedand ordered the soldierstroops to go down and take him byaway force from amongthem themby force, and bring him into the castlebarracks. |
| 23:11 |
AndBut on the night immediately following, the Lord stood byat him,his side and said, BeTake ofcourage; good cheer: for as thouyou hasthave testifiedsolemnly concerningwitnessed meto My cause at Jerusalem, so you must thou bear witness also at Rome also. |
| 23:12 |
And when it was day, the Jews bandedformed together,a conspiracy and bound themselves under aan curseoath, saying that they would neither eat nor drink tilluntil they had killed Paul. |
| 23:13 |
And theythere were more than forty thatwho madeformed this conspiracyplot. |
| 23:14 |
And they came to the chief priests and the elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a greatsolemn curse, oath to taste nothing until we have killed Paul. |
| 23:15 |
Now, therefore, doyou yeand with the councilCouncil signifynotify to the chiefcommander captainto that he bring him down untoto you, as though yeyou wouldwere judgegoing ofto determine his case by a more exactly:thorough investigation; and we, beforefor heour comespart near, are ready to slay him before he comes near the place. |
| 23:16 |
But the son of Pauls sisterssister son heard of their lying in waitambush, and he came and entered into the castlebarracks and told Paul. |
| 23:17 |
And Paul called unto him one of the centurions, to him and said, BringLead this young man untoto the chiefcommander, captain; for he hathhas something to tellreport to him. |
| 23:18 |
So he took him, and broughtled him to the chiefcommander captain, and saithsaid, Paul the prisoner called me untoto him, and asked me to bringlead this young man untoto thee, you whosince hathhe has something to saytell to theeyou. |
| 23:19 |
And the chiefcommander captain took him by the hand, and goingstepping aside, askedbegan to inquire of him privately, What is it that thouyou hasthave to tellreport to me? |
| 23:20 |
And he said, The Jews have agreed to ask theeyou to bring Paul down Paultomorrow to morrow unto the councilCouncil, as though thouthey wouldestwere going to inquire somewhat more exactlythoroughly concerningabout him. |
| 23:21 |
DoSo do not thoulisten thereforeto yield unto them:, for theremore liethan inforty waitof forthem himare oflying themin morewait thanfor fortyhim men, who have bound themselves under a curse, neithernot to eat noror to drink tilluntil they haveslay slain him:; and now they are they ready, lookingand waiting for the promise from theeyou. |
| 23:22 |
SoTherefore the chiefcommander captain let the young man go, charginginstructing him, Tell no manone that thouyou hasthave signifiednotified me of these things to me. |
| 23:23 |
And he called untoto him two of the centurions, and said, MakeGet ready two hundred soldiers toready goby asthe farthird ashour Caesarea,of andthe horsemennight threescoreto andproceed ten,to and spearmen two hundredCaesarea, atwith theseventy thirdhorsemen hourand oftwo thehundred night:spearmen. |
| 23:24 |
andThey hewere badealso themto provide beasts, mounts thatto theyput might set Paul thereon,on and bring him safesafely untoto Felix the governor. |
| 23:25 |
And he wrote a letter afterhaving this form: |
| 23:26 |
Claudius Lysias, untoto the most excellent governor Felix, greetinggreetings. |
| 23:27 |
ThisWhen this man was seizedarrested by the Jews, and was about to be slain ofby them, when I came upon them with the soldierstroops and rescued him, having learned that he was a Roman. |
| 23:28 |
And desiringwanting to knowascertain the causecharge whereforefor which they accusedwere accusing him, I brought him down untoto their council:Council; |
| 23:29 |
whomand I found him to be accused aboutover questions ofabout their lawLaw, but tounder haveno nothingaccusation laiddeserving to his charge worthy of death or of bondsimprisonment. |
| 23:30 |
And when itI was showninformed to me that there would be a plot against the man, I sent him to theeyou forthwithat once, chargingalso instructing his accusers also to speakbring charges against him before theeyou. |
| 23:31 |
So the soldiers, asin itaccordance waswith commandedtheir themorders, took Paul and brought him by night to Antipatris. |
| 23:32 |
But on the morrownext theyday, leftleaving the horsemen to go on with him, andthey returned to the castle:barracks. |
| 23:33 |
andAnd they, when theythese camehad come to Caesarea and delivered the letter to the governor, they also presented Paul alsoto before him. |
| 23:34 |
And when he had read it, he asked offrom what province he was; and when he understoodlearned that he was offrom Cilicia, |
| 23:35 |
he said, I will heargive theeyou fully,a saidhearing he,after whenyour thine accusers arrive also, aregiving come:orders andfor he commanded him to be kept in Herods palacePraetorium. |
| 24:1 |
And after five days the high priest Ananias came down with certainsome elders, and with ana orator, certain oneattorney named Tertullus; and they informedbrought charges to the governor against Paul. |
| 24:2 |
And whenafter hePaul washad calledbeen summoned, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeingto thatthe bygovernor, theeSince we enjoyhave through you attained much peace, and thatsince by thyyour providence evilsreforms are correctedbeing carried out for this nation, |
| 24:3 |
we acceptacknowledge itthis in allevery waysway and in all placeseverywhere, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness. |
| 24:4 |
But, that I bemay not furtherweary tediousyou untoany theefurther, I entreatbeg theeyou to heargrant us, ofby thyyour clemencykindness, a fewbrief wordshearing. |
| 24:5 |
For we have found this man a pestilentreal fellow, pest and a moverfellow ofwho insurrectionsstirs up dissension among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:. |
| 24:6 |
whoAnd moreoverhe assayedeven tried to profanedesecrate the temple:; onand whomthen alsowe arrested him. And we laidwanted hold:to judge him according to our own Law. |
| 24:8 |
fromordering whomhis thouaccusers wiltto become able, before you. And by examining him thyselfyourself concerning all these matters, toyou takewill knowledgebe ofable allto theseascertain the things whereofof which we accuse him. |
| 24:9 |
And the Jews also joined in the chargeattack, affirmingasserting that these things were so. |
| 24:10 |
And when the governor had beckonednodded untofor him to speak, Paul answered, responded: ForasmuchKnowing asthat Ifor knowmany thatyears thouyou hasthave been of many years a judge untoto this nation, I cheerfully make my defence:defense, |
| 24:11 |
seeingsince thatyou thoucan canst take knowledgenote thatof itthe isfact notthat no more than twelve days sinceago I went up to worshipJerusalem atto Jerusalem:worship. |
| 24:12 |
andAnd neither in the temple, didnor theyin findthe mesynagogues, disputingnor within anythe mancity oritself stirringdid upthey afind crowd,me norcarrying inon thea synagogues, discussion norwith inanyone theor citycausing a riot. |
| 24:13 |
NeitherNor can they prove to theeyou the thingscharges whereofof which they now accuse me. |
| 24:14 |
But this I confessadmit untoto theeyou, that afteraccording to the Way which they call a sect, soI do serve I the God of our fathers, believing alleverything thingsthat whichis arein accordingaccordance towith the lawLaw, and whichthat areis written in the prophetsProphets; |
| 24:15 |
having a hope towardin God, which these alsomen cherish themselves look for, that there shall certainly be a resurrection of both of the justrighteous and unjustthe wicked. |
| 24:16 |
HereinIn view of this, I also exercisedo myselfmy best to havemaintain always a blameless conscience voidboth ofbefore offence toward God and before men always. |
| 24:17 |
Now after someseveral years I came to bring alms to my nation, and to present offerings:; |
| 24:18 |
amidstin which they found me purifiedoccupied in the temple, withhaving nobeen crowdpurified, norwithout yetany withcrowd tumult:or butuproar. But there were certain Jews from Asia— |
| 24:19 |
who ought to have been herepresent before theeyou, and to make accusation, if they hadshould aughthave anything against me. |
| 24:20 |
Or else let these men themselves saytell what wrongmisdeed doing they found when I stood before the councilCouncil, |
| 24:21 |
exceptother itthan be for this one voice, statement thatwhich I criedshouted out while standing among them, TouchingFor the resurrection of the dead I am calledon intrial question before you this daytoday. |
| 24:22 |
But Felix, having a more exact knowledge concerningabout the Way, deferredput them off, saying, When Lysias the chiefcommander captaincomes shall come down, I will determinedecide your mattercase. |
| 24:23 |
And he gave orderorders to the centurion thatfor hehim shouldto be kept in charge, custody and shouldyet have indulgence;some freedom, and not to forbidprevent any of his friends tofrom ministerministering untoto him. |
| 24:24 |
But aftersome certaindays dayslater, Felix camearrived with Drusilla, his wife, who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul, and heard him concerningspeak theabout faith in Christ Jesus. |
| 24:25 |
And as he reasonedwas ofdiscussing righteousness, and self control, and the judgment to come, Felix wasbecame terrified, frightened and answeredsaid, Go thyaway way for thisthe time;present, and when I havefind a convenient seasontime, I will callsummon thee unto meyou. |
| 24:26 |
HeAt hopedthe withalsame time too, he was hoping that money would be given him ofby Paul:; whereforetherefore he also heused sentto send for him thequite oftener, often and communedconverse with him. |
| 24:27 |
But whenafter two years werehad fulfilledpassed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus; and desiringwishing to gaindo favorthe withJews thea Jewsfavor, Felix left Paul in bondsimprisoned. |
| 25:1 |
Festus therefore, having comearrived intoin the province, after three days later went up to Jerusalem from Caesarea. |
| 25:2 |
And the chief priests and the principalleading men of the Jews informedbrought himcharges against Paul; and they besoughtwere urging him, |
| 25:3 |
askingrequesting a favorconcession against himPaul, that he wouldmight sendhave for him brought to Jerusalem; layingat athe plotsame time, setting an ambush to kill him on the way. |
| 25:4 |
Howbeit Festus then answered, that Paul was being kept in chargecustody at Caesarea, and that he himself was about to departleave thither shortly. |
| 25:5 |
Let them thereforeTherefore, saithhe hesaid, thatlet arethe ofinfluential powermen among you go downthere with me, and if there is anything amisswrong inabout the man, let them accuseprosecute him. |
| 25:6 |
And whenafter he had tarriedspent among them not more than eight or ten days among them, he went down untoto Caesarea; and on the morrownext day he sattook his seat on the judgmenttribunal seat, and commandedordered Paul to be brought. |
| 25:7 |
And whenafter he washad comearrived, the Jews thatwho had come down from Jerusalem stood roundaround about him, bringing against him many and grievousserious charges against him which they could not prove; |
| 25:8 |
while Paul said in his defenceown defense, NeitherI have committed no offense either against the lawLaw of the Jews, noror against the temple, noror against Caesar, have I sinned at all. |
| 25:9 |
But Festus, desiringwishing to gaindo favorthe withJews thea Jewsfavor, answered Paul and said, WiltAre thouyou willing to go up to Jerusalem, and therestand betrial judgedbefore ofme on these things before mecharges? |
| 25:10 |
But Paul said, I am standing before Caesars judgment seattribunal, where I ought to be judged:tried. toI the Jews have I done no wrong to the Jews, as thouyou also very well knowestknow. |
| 25:11 |
If then I am a wrong doerwrongdoer, and have committed anything worthy of death, I refusedo not refuse to die; but if none of those things is true whereofof which these men accuse me, no manone can givehand me upover untoto them. I appeal untoto Caesar. |
| 25:12 |
Then Festus, when heFestus had conferred with thehis council, he answered, ThouYou hasthave appealed untoto Caesar:, untoto Caesar shaltyou thoushall go. |
| 25:13 |
Now when certainseveral days werehad passedelapsed, King Agrippa the king and Bernice arrived at Caesarea, and salutedpaid their respects to Festus. |
| 25:14 |
And aswhile they tarriedwere therespending many days there, Festus laid Pauls case before the king, saying, There is a certain man left a prisoner by Felix; |
| 25:15 |
aboutand whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informedbrought mecharges against him, asking for a sentence againstof condemnation upon him. |
| 25:16 |
ToAnd whom I answered, them that it is not the custom of the Romans to givehand upover any man, before that the accused havemeets thehis accusers face to face, and havehas hadan opportunity to make his defencedefense concerningagainst the matter laid against himcharges. |
| 25:17 |
WhenAnd thereforeso after they werehad comeassembled together here, I made no delay, but on the next day sattook my seat on the judgment seattribunal, and commandedordered the man to be brought. |
| 25:18 |
ConcerningAnd whom, when the accusers stood up, they broughtbegan nobringing chargecharges against him not of such evilcrimes things as I supposedwas expecting; |
| 25:19 |
but they simply had certainsome questionspoints againstof disagreement with him ofabout their own religion, and ofabout onea Jesus, certain whodead wasman, deadJesus, whom Paul affirmedasserted to be alive. |
| 25:20 |
And I, being perplexedat a loss how to inquireinvestigate concerningsuch these thingsmatters, I asked whether he wouldwas willing to go to Jerusalem and there bestand judgedtrial ofon these matters. |
| 25:21 |
But when Paul had appealed to be keptheld in custody for the Emperors decision of the emperor, I commandedordered him to be kept tillin custody until I should send him to Caesar. |
| 25:22 |
And Agrippa said untoto Festus, I also couldwould wishlike to hear the man myself. To morrowTomorrow, saithhe hesaid, thouyou shaltshall hear him. |
| 25:23 |
SoAnd so, on the morrow, next day when Agrippa washad come, andtogether with Bernice, withamid great pomp, and theyhad were entered into the placeauditorium ofaccompanied hearingby with the chiefcommanders captains and the principalprominent men of the city, at the command of Festus, Paul was brought in. |
| 25:24 |
And Festus saithsaid, King Agrippa, and all menyou whogentlemen are here present with us, yeyou behold this man, about whom all the multitudepeople of the Jews madeappealed suit to me, both at Jerusalem and here, cryingloudly declaring that he ought not to live any longer. |
| 25:25 |
But I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death:; and assince he himself appealed to the emperorEmperor, I determineddecided to send him. |
| 25:26 |
OfYet whom I have nonothing certaindefinite thingabout him to write untoto my Lord. WhereforeTherefore I have brought him forth before you, all and speciallyespecially before theeyou, kingKing Agrippa, so that, after examinationthe hadinvestigation has taken place, I may have somewhatsomething to write. |
| 25:27 |
For it seemethseems absurd to me unreasonable, in sending a prisoner, not withal to signifyindicate also the charges against him. |
| 26:1 |
And Agrippa said untoto Paul, ThouYou artare permitted to speak for thyselfyourself. Then Paul stretched forthout his hand, and madeproceeded to make his defencedefense: |
| 26:2 |
IIn thinkregard myselfto happy, all kingthe Agrippa, things thatof which I am toaccused makeby mythe defenceJews, beforeI theeconsider thismyself dayfortunate, touchingKing allAgrippa, thethat things whereof I am accusedabout byto themake Jews:my defense before you today; |
| 26:3 |
especially because thouyou artare an expert in all customs and questions which are among the Jews:; whereforetherefore I beseechbeg theeyou to hearlisten to me patiently. |
| 26:4 |
MySo then, all Jews know my manner of life then from my youth up, which was from the beginning was spent among minemy own nation and at Jerusalem, know all the Jews; |
| 26:5 |
havingsince knowledgethey ofhave known about me fromfor thea firstlong time previously, if they beare willing to testify, that afterI lived as a Pharisee according to the straiteststrictest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee. |
| 26:6 |
And now I standam herestanding totrial be judged for the hope of the promise made ofby God untoto our fathers; |
| 26:7 |
untothe promise to which promise our twelve tribes hope to attain, as they earnestly servingserve God night and day, hope to attain. And concerningfor this hope, O King, I am being accused by the Jews, O king!. |
| 26:8 |
Why is it judgedconsidered incredible withamong you, people if God dothdoes raise the dead? |
| 26:9 |
So then, I verily thought withto myself that I oughthad to do many things contraryhostile to the name of Jesus of Nazareth. |
| 26:10 |
And this is just what I also did in Jerusalem:; andnot only did I bothlock shut up many of the saints in prisons, having received authority from the chief priests, andbut also when they were being put to death I gavecast my vote against them. |
| 26:11 |
And punishingas I punished them oftentimesoften in all the synagogues, I strovetried to makeforce them to blaspheme; and being exceedinglyfuriously madenraged againstat them, I persecutedkept pursuing them even untoto foreign cities. |
| 26:12 |
WhereuponWhile thus engaged as I journeyedwas journeying to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests, |
| 26:13 |
at midday, O kingKing, I saw on the way a light from heaven, abovebrighter thethan brightness of the sun, shining roundall aboutaround me and themthose thatwho journeyedwere journeying with me. |
| 26:14 |
And when we werehad all fallen to the earthground, I heard a voice saying untoto me in the Hebrew languagedialect, Saul, Saul, why persecutestare thouyou mepersecuting Me? itIt is hard for theeyou to kick against the goadgoads. |
| 26:15 |
And I said, Who art thouThou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thouyou persecutestare persecuting. |
| 26:16 |
But arise, and stand uponon thyyour feet:; for to this endpurpose I have I appeared untoto theeyou, to appoint theeyou a minister and a witness bothnot ofonly to the things whereinwhich thouyou hasthave seen me, andbut ofalso to the things whereinin which I will appear untoto theeyou; |
| 26:17 |
delivering theeyou from the Jewish people, and from the Gentiles, untoto whom I sendam theesending you, |
| 26:18 |
to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the powerdominion of Satan untoto God, in order that they may receive remissionforgiveness of sins and an inheritance among themthose thatwho arehave been sanctified by faith in meMe. |
| 26:19 |
WhereforeConsequently, OKing king Agrippa, I wasdid not prove disobedient untoto the heavenly vision:, |
| 26:20 |
but declaredkept declaring both to themthose of Damascus first, and also at Jerusalem, and then throughout all the countryregion of JudaeaJudea, and alsoeven to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, doingperforming worksdeeds worthyappropriate ofto repentance. |
| 26:21 |
For this causereason thesome Jews seized me in the temple, and assayedtried to killput me to death. |
| 26:22 |
HavingAnd thereforeso, having obtained the help that is from God, I stand untoto this day testifying both to small and great, sayingstating nothing but what the prophetsProphets and Moses didsaid saywas shouldgoing cometo take place; |
| 26:23 |
how that the Christ mustwas to suffer, and how that heby firstreason byof theHis resurrection offrom the dead He should be the first to proclaim light both to the Jewish people and to the Gentiles. |
| 26:24 |
And aswhile hePaul thuswas madesaying this in his defencedefense, Festus saithsaid within a loud voice, Paul, thouyou artare mad;out thyof muchyour mind! Your great learning is turningdriving theeyou mad. |
| 26:25 |
But Paul saithsaid, I am not madout of my mind, most excellent Festus;, but speakI forthutter words of sober truth and soberness. |
| 26:26 |
For the king knowethknows ofabout these thingsmatters, untoand whomI speak to him also Iwith speakconfidence, freely:since for I am persuaded that none of these things isescape hiddenhis from himnotice; for this hathhas not been done in a corner. |
| 26:27 |
King Agrippa, believestdo thouyou believe the prophetsProphets? I know that thouyou believestdo. |
| 26:28 |
And Agrippa saidreplied untoto Paul, WithIn buta littleshort persuasiontime thouyou wouldestwill fainpersuade make me to become a Christian. |
| 26:29 |
And Paul said, I would to God, that whether within littlea short or withlong muchtime, not thouonly onlyyou, but also all thatwho hear me this day, might become such as I am, except for these bondschains. |
| 26:30 |
And the king rosearose up, and the governor, and Bernice, and theythose thatwho satwere sitting with them:, |
| 26:31 |
and when they had withdrawndrawn aside, they spakebegan onetalking to one another, saying, This man doethis nothingnot doing anything worthy of death or of bondsimprisonment. |
| 26:32 |
And Agrippa said untoto Festus, This man might have been set atfree liberty, if he had not appealed untoto Caesar. |
| 27:1 |
And when it was determineddecided that we should sail for Italy, they deliveredproceeded to deliver Paul and certainsome other prisoners to a centurion named Julius, of the Augustan bandcohort named Julius. |
| 27:2 |
And embarking in aan Adramyttian ship of Adramyttium, which was about to sail untoto the placesregions onalong the coast of Asia, we put out to sea, accompanied by Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us. |
| 27:3 |
And the next day we touchedput in at Sidon:; and Julius treated Paul kindly, with consideration and gaveallowed him leave to go untoto his friends and refreshreceive himselfcare. |
| 27:4 |
And puttingfrom there we put out to sea fromand thence, we sailed under the leeshelter of Cyprus, because the winds were contrary. |
| 27:5 |
And when we had sailed acrossthrough the sea whichalong isthe offcoast of Cilicia and Pamphylia, we camelanded toat Myra, ain city of Lycia. |
| 27:6 |
And there the centurion found aan Alexandrian ship of Alexandria sailing for Italy;, and he put us thereinaboard it. |
| 27:7 |
And when we had sailed slowly for a good many days, and were come with difficulty overhad againstarrived off Cnidus, since the wind did not furtherpermit sufferingus usto go farther, we sailed under the leeshelter of Crete, overoff against Salmone; |
| 27:8 |
and with difficulty coastingsailing alongpast it we came untoto a certain place called Fair Havens;, nighnear whereuntowhich was the city of Lasea. |
| 27:9 |
And when muchconsiderable time washad spent, passed and the voyage was now dangerous, becausesince even the Fastfast was now already gone byover, Paul admonishedbegan to admonish them, |
| 27:10 |
and said untoto them, SirsMen, I perceive that the voyage will certainly be attended with injurydamage and muchgreat loss, not only of the ladingcargo and the ship, but also of our lives. |
| 27:11 |
But the centurion gavewas more heedpersuaded toby the masterpilot and to the ownercaptain of the ship, than toby thosewhat thingswas whichbeing weresaid spoken by Paul. |
| 27:12 |
And because the havenharbor was not commodioussuitable tofor winter inwintering, the moremajority partreached adviseda decision to put out to sea from thencethere, if bysomehow any means they could reach Phoenix, and winter there; which is a havenharbor of Crete, lookingfacing northsouthwest eastand northwest, and southspend eastthe winter there. |
| 27:13 |
And when thea moderate south wind blewcame softlyup, supposing that they had obtainedgained their purpose, they weighed anchor and sailedbegan sailing along Crete, close in shoreinshore. |
| 27:14 |
But afterbefore novery long time there beatrushed down from itthe land a tempestuousviolent wind, which is called Euraquilo:; |
| 27:15 |
and when the ship was caught in it, and could not face the wind, we gave way to it, and werelet ourselves be driven along. |
| 27:16 |
And running under the leeshelter of a small island called CaudaClauda, we were scarcely able, with difficulty, to secureget the ships boat: under control. |
| 27:17 |
andAnd whenafter they had hoisted it up, they used helps, supporting undercables girdingin undergirding the ship; and, fearing lestthat they shouldmight berun castaground uponon the shallows of Syrtis, they loweredlet down the gearsea anchor, and so werelet themselves be driven along. |
| 27:18 |
AndThe next day as we laboredwere exceedinglybeing withviolently thestorm stormtossed, the next day they began to throwjettison the freight overboardcargo; |
| 27:19 |
and on the third day they castthrew outthe ships tackle overboard with their own hands the tackling of the ship. |
| 27:20 |
And whensince neither sun nor stars shoneappeared upon us for many days, and no small tempeststorm laywas onassailing us, from then on all hope thatof weour shouldbeing be saved was nowgradually taken awayabandoned. |
| 27:21 |
And when they had beengone a long time without food, then Paul stood forthup in thetheir midst of them, and said, SirsMen, yeyou shouldought to have hearkenedfollowed untomy me,advice and not to have set sail from Crete, and haveincurred gotten this injurydamage and loss. |
| 27:22 |
And yet now I exhorturge you to bekeep ofup goodyour cheer;courage, for there shall be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship. |
| 27:23 |
For therethis stoodvery by me this night an angel of the God whoseto whom I am,belong and whom also I serve stood before me, |
| 27:24 |
saying, FearDo not be afraid, Paul; thouyou must stand before Caesar:; and lobehold, God hathhas granted theeyou all themthose thatwho sailare sailing with theeyou. |
| 27:25 |
WhereforeTherefore, sirs, keep beup ofyour goodcourage, cheer:men, for I believe God, that it shallwill beturn evenout soexactly as itI hathhave been spoken unto metold. |
| 27:26 |
But we must berun castaground uponon a certain island. |
| 27:27 |
But when the fourteenth night washad come, as we were being driven toabout and fro in the seaAdriatic of AdriaSea, about midnight the sailors surmisedbegan to surmise that they were drawingapproaching near to some country:land. |
| 27:28 |
andAnd they soundedtook soundings, and found it to be twenty fathoms; and after a little space, farther on they soundedtook again, another sounding and found it to be fifteen fathoms. |
| 27:29 |
And fearing lestthat haply we shouldmight berun castaground ashoresomewhere on rockythe groundrocks, they letcast go four anchors from the stern, and wished for the daydaybreak. |
| 27:30 |
And as the sailors were seekingtrying to fleeescape outfrom of the ship, and had loweredlet down the ships boat into the sea, underon colorthe aspretense thoughof theyintending wouldto lay out anchors from the foreshipbow, |
| 27:31 |
Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, ExceptUnless these abidemen remain in the ship, yeyou yourselves cannot be saved. |
| 27:32 |
Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the ships boat, and let herit fall offaway. |
| 27:33 |
And whileuntil the day was comingabout onto dawn, Paul besoughtwas encouraging them all to take some food, saying, ThisToday day is the fourteenth day that yeyou waithave been constantly watching and continuegoing fastingwithout eating, having taken nothing. |
| 27:34 |
WhereforeTherefore I beseechencourage you to take some food:, for this is for your safety:preservation; for there shall not a hair perish from the head of any of you shall perish. |
| 27:35 |
And whenhaving he had said this, andhe hadtook taken bread, heand gave thanks to God in the presence of all; and he brakebroke it, and began to eat. |
| 27:36 |
ThenAnd were they all of goodthem cheerwere encouraged, and they themselves also took food. |
| 27:37 |
And weall wereof inus all in the ship were two hundred threescore and sixteenseventy soulssix persons. |
| 27:38 |
And when they had eaten enough, they lightenedbegan to lighten the ship, by throwing out the wheat into the sea. |
| 27:39 |
