| 1:1 |
AndNow it came toabout pass after the death of Saul, when David washad returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, andthat David hadremained abode two days in Ziklag;. |
| 1:2 |
And it camehappened to pass on the third day, that, behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul, with his clothes rent, torn and earthdust uponon his head:. andAnd so it was, came about when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, ground and didprostrated obeisancehimself. |
| 1:3 |
AndThen David said untoto him, From whencewhere comestdo thouyou come? And he said untoto him, OutI ofhave escaped from the camp of Israel am I escaped. |
| 1:4 |
And David said untoto him, How wentdid thethings mattergo? IPlease pray thee, tell me. And he answeredsaid, The people arehave fled from the battle, and also many of the people alsohave are fallen and are dead; and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also. |
| 1:5 |
AndSo David said untoto the young man thatwho told him, How knowestdo thouyou know that Saul and Jonathan his son Jonathan are dead? |
| 1:6 |
And the young man thatwho told him said, AsBy chance I happened byto chancebe uponon mountMount Gilboa, and behold, Saul was leaning uponon his spear;. and,And lobehold, the chariots and the horsemen followedpursued hardhim after himclosely. |
| 1:7 |
And when he looked behind him, he saw me, and called untoto me. And I answeredsaid, Here I am I. |
| 1:8 |
And he said untoto me, Who artare thouyou? And I answered him, I am an Amalekite. |
| 1:9 |
AndThen he said untoto me, Stand,Please Istand pray thee, beside me, and slaykill me; for anguishagony hathhas takenseized hold of me, because my life isstill yetlingers whole in me. |
| 1:10 |
So I stood beside him, and slewkilled him, because I wasknew sure that he could not live after that he washad fallen:. andAnd I took the crown thatwhich was uponon his head, and the bracelet thatwhich was on his arm, and I have brought them hitherhere untoto my Lord. |
| 1:11 |
Then David took hold onof his clothes, and renttore them;, and likewiseso also did all the men thatwho were with him:. |
| 1:12 |
andAnd they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even, evening for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, Jonathan and for the people of Jehovah, the Lord and for the house of Israel;, because they werehad fallen by the sword. |
| 1:13 |
And David said untoto the young man thatwho told him, WhenceWhere artare thouyou from? And he answered, I am the son of aan sojourneralien, an Amalekite. |
| 1:14 |
AndThen David said untoto him, How wastis thouit you were not afraid to putstretch forthout thyyour hand to destroy Jehovahsthe Lords anointed? |
| 1:15 |
And David called one of the young men, and said, Go near, andcut fallhim upon himdown. AndSo he smotestruck him, soand that he died. |
| 1:16 |
And David said untoto him, ThyYour blood beis uponon thyyour head;, for thyyour mouth hathhas testified against theeyou, saying, I have slainkilled Jehovahsthe Lords anointed. |
| 1:17 |
AndThen David lamentedchanted with this lamentationlament over Saul and over Jonathan his son, |
| 1:18 |
and he badetold them to teach the childrensons of Judah the song of the bow:; behold, it is written in the book of Jashar:. |
| 1:19 |
ThyYour glorybeauty, O Israel, is slain uponon thyyour high places! How arehave the mighty fallen! |
| 1:20 |
Tell it not in Gath, PublishProclaim it not in the streets of Ashkelon; Lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, Lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumphexult. |
| 1:21 |
YeO mountains of Gilboa, Let therenot be no dew noror rain uponbe on you, neithernor fields of offerings:; For there the shield of the mighty was vilely cast awaydefiled, The shield of Saul, not anointed with oil. |
| 1:22 |
From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty, The bow of Jonathan turneddid not turn back, And the sword of Saul returneddid not return empty. |
| 1:23 |
Saul and Jonathan, werebeloved lovely and pleasant in their liveslife, And in their death they were not divided:parted; They were swifter than eagles, They were stronger than lions. |
| 1:24 |
YeO daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, Who clothed you luxuriously in scarlet delicately, Who put ornaments of gold uponon your apparel. |
| 1:25 |
How arehave the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle! Jonathan is slain uponon thyyour high places. |
| 1:26 |
I am distressed for theeyou, my brother Jonathan:; VeryYou pleasanthave hastbeen thouvery beenpleasant untoto me:. ThyYour love to me was more wonderful, PassingThan the love of women. |
| 1:27 |
How arehave the mighty fallen, And the weapons of war perished! |
| 2:1 |
AndThen it came toabout passafterwards after this, that David inquired of Jehovahthe Lord, saying, Shall I go up intoto anyone of the cities of Judah? And Jehovahthe Lord said untoto him, Go up. AndSo David said, WhitherWhere shall I go up? And heHe said, UntoTo Hebron. |
| 2:2 |
So David went up thitherthere, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wifewidow of Nabal the Carmelite. |
| 2:3 |
And David brought up his men thatwho were with him did David bring up, everyeach man with his household:; and they dweltlived in the cities of Hebron. |
| 2:4 |
AndThen the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, TheIt was the men of Jabesh gilead werewho they that buried Saul. |
| 2:5 |
And David sent messengers untoto the men of Jabesh gilead, and said untoto them, BlessedMay you be yeblessed of Jehovah, the thatLord yebecause you have showedshown this kindness untoto Saul your Lord, even unto Saul, and have buried him. |
| 2:6 |
And now Jehovahmay the Lord show lovingkindness and truth untoto you:; and I also will requiteshow you this kindnessgoodness to you, because yeyou have done this thing. |
| 2:7 |
Now therefore, let your hands be strong, and be ye valiant; for Saul your Lord is dead, and also the house of Judah havehas anointed me king over them. |
| 2:8 |
NowBut Abner the son of Ner, captaincommander of Sauls hostarmy, had taken Ish bosheth the son of Saul, and brought him over to Mahanaim;. |
| 2:9 |
andAnd he made him king over Gilead, and over the Ashurites, and over Jezreel, and over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, andeven over all Israel. |
| 2:10 |
Ish bosheth, Sauls son, was forty years old when he beganbecame toking reign over Israel, and he reignedwas king for two years. ButThe the house of Judah, however, followed David. |
| 2:12 |
AndNow Abner the son of Ner, andwent out from Mahanaim to Gibeon with the servants of Ish bosheth the son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon. |
| 2:13 |
And Joab the son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out, and met them by the pool of Gibeon; and they sat down, the one on the one side of the pool, and the other on the other side of the pool. |
| 2:14 |
AndThen Abner said to Joab, LetNow let the young men, Iarise prayand thee, hold arisea andcontest play before us. And Joab said, Let them arise. |
| 2:15 |
ThenSo they arose and went over by number:count, twelve for Benjamin, and for Ish bosheth the son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David. |
| 2:16 |
And theyeach caughtone everyof onethem seized his fellowopponent by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellowsopponents side; so they fell down together:. whereforeTherefore that place was called Helkath hazzurim, which is in Gibeon. |
| 2:17 |
And that day the battle was very soresevere, that day; and Abner was beaten, and the men of Israel, were beaten before the servants of David. |
| 2:18 |
AndNow the three sons of Zeruiah were there, Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel:; and Asahel was as lightswiftfooted as one of footthe asgazelles awhich wildis roein the field. |
| 2:19 |
And Asahel pursued after Abner; and indid goingnot heturn turned not to the right handor nor to the left from following Abner. |
| 2:20 |
Then Abner looked behind him, and said, Is itthat thouyou, Asahel? And he answered, It is I. |
| 2:21 |
AndSo Abner said to him, Turn thee aside to thyyour right hand or to thyyour left, and laytake thee hold onof one of the young men for yourself, and take theefor yourself his armorspoil. But Asahel wouldwas not willing to turn aside from following him. |
| 2:22 |
And Abner saidrepeated again to Asahel, Turn thee aside from following me:. whereforeWhy should I smitestrike theeyou to the ground? howHow then shouldcould I holdlift up my face to Joabyour thybrother brotherJoab? |
| 2:23 |
HowbeitHowever, he refused to turn aside:; whereforetherefore Abner struck him in the belly with the hinderbutt end of the spear smote him in the body, so that the spear came out behindat him;his andback. And he fell down there, and died inon the samespot. place:And and it came toabout pass, that asall manywho as came to the place where Asahel fellhad downfallen and died, stood still. |
| 2:24 |
But Joab and Abishai pursued after Abner:, and when the sun wentwas going down, when they werecame come to the hill of Ammah, thatwhich liethis beforein front of Giah by the way of the wilderness of Gibeon. |
| 2:25 |
And the childrensons of Benjamin gathered themselves together afterbehind Abner, and became one band, and they stood on the top of a certain hill. |
| 2:26 |
Then Abner called to Joab, and said, Shall the sword devour for everforever? knowestDo thouyou not know that it will be bitternessbitter in the latter end? howHow long shallwill ityou berefrain then, from eretelling thou bid the people returnto turn back from following their brethrenbrothers? |
| 2:27 |
And Joab said, As God livethlives, if thouyou hadsthad not spoken, surely then in the morningpeople thewould peoplehave had gone away in the morning, noreach followedfrom everyfollowing one his brother. |
| 2:28 |
So Joab blew the trumpet; and all the people stoodhalted still, and pursued after Israel no morelonger, neithernor foughtdid they anycontinue moreto fight anymore. |
| 2:29 |
And Abner and his men then went through the Arabah all that night through the Arabah; andso they passedcrossed over the Jordan, andwalked went through all Bithronmorning, and came to Mahanaim. |
| 2:30 |
AndThen Joab returned from following Abner:; and when he had gathered all the people together, therenineteen lacked of Davids servants nineteenbesides menAsahel andwere Asahelmissing. |
| 2:31 |
But the servants of David had smittenstruck down many of Benjamin, and of Abners men, so that three hundred and threescoresixty men died. |
| 2:32 |
And they took up Asahel, and buried him in thehis sepulchrefathers oftomb his father, which was in Beth lehemBethlehem. AndThen Joab and his men went all night, anduntil the day brakedawned upon them at Hebron. |
| 3:1 |
Now there was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David:; and David waxedgrew strongersteadily and stronger, but the house of Saul waxedgrew weaker and weakercontinually. |
| 3:2 |
AndSons untowere Davidborn wereto sonsDavid bornat in Hebron: and his first born was Amnon, ofby Ahinoam the Jezreelitess; |
| 3:3 |
and his second, Chileab, ofby Abigail the wifewidow of Nabal the Carmelite; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah, the daughter of Talmai, king of Geshur; |
| 3:5 |
and the sixth, Ithream, ofby Eglah, Davids wife Eglah. These were born to David inat Hebron. |
| 3:6 |
And it came toabout pass, while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner madewas making himself strong in the house of Saul. |
| 3:7 |
Now Saul had a concubine, whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah:; and Ish bosheth said to Abner, WhereforeWhy hasthave thouyou gone in untoto my fathers concubine? |
| 3:8 |
Then Abner was Abner very wrothangry forover the words of Ish bosheth, and said, Am I a dogs head that belongethbelongs to Judah? ThisToday day do I show kindness untoto the house of Saul thyyour father, to his brethren, brothers and to his friends, and have not delivered theeyou into the handhands of David; and yet thoutoday chargestyou charge me this day with a faultguilt concerning thisthe woman. |
| 3:9 |
May God do so to Abner, and more also, if, as Jehovahthe hathLord has sworn to David, I do not evenaccomplish sothis tofor him;, |
| 3:10 |
to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to setestablish up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan even to Beer shebaBeersheba. |
| 3:11 |
And he could notno longer answer Abner anothera word, because he fearedwas afraid of him. |
| 3:12 |
AndThen Abner sent messengers to David onin his behalfplace, saying, Whose is the land? saying also, Make thyyour leaguecovenant with me, and, behold, my hand shall be with thee, you to bring about all Israel untoover theeto you. |
| 3:13 |
And he said, Well;Good! I will make a leaguecovenant with thee;you, but I demand one thing I require of thee:you, that isnamely, thouyou shaltshall not see my face, exceptunless thouyou first bring Michal, Sauls daughter, when thouyou comestcome to see my faceme. |
| 3:14 |
AndSo David sent messengers to Ish bosheth, Sauls son, saying, DeliverGive me my wife Michal, to whom I was betrothed to me for a hundred foreskins of the Philistines. |
| 3:15 |
And Ish bosheth sent, and took her from her husband, even from Paltiel the son of Laish. |
| 3:16 |
AndBut her husband went with her, weeping as he went, and followed her toas far as Bahurim. Then Abner said Abnerto unto him, Go, return:. andSo he returned. |
| 3:17 |
AndNow Abner had communicationconsultation with the elders of Israel, saying, In times past yeyou soughtwere seeking for David to be king over you:. |
| 3:18 |
nowNow then, do it;! forFor Jehovahthe hathLord has spoken of David, saying, By the hand of myMy servant David I will save myMy people Israel outfrom of the hand of the Philistines, and outfrom of the hand of all their enemies. |
| 3:19 |
And Abner also spakespoke in the earshearing of Benjamin:; and in addition Abner went also to speak in the earshearing of David in Hebron all that seemed good to Israel, and to the whole house of Benjamin. |
| 3:20 |
SoThen Abner cameand totwenty Davidmen towith Hebron, him andcame twentyto menDavid withat himHebron. And David made a feast for Abner and the men thatwho were with him a feast. |
| 3:21 |
And Abner said untoto David, ILet willme arise and go, and will gather all Israel untoto my Lord the king, that they may make a covenant with theeyou, and that thouyou mayestmay reignbe king over all that thyyour soul desirethdesires. AndSo David sent Abner away;, and he went in peace. |
| 3:22 |
And, behold, the servants of David and Joab came from a foray, raid and brought inmuch a great spoil with them:; but Abner was not with David in Hebron;, for he had sent him away, and he washad gone in peace. |
| 3:23 |
When Joab and all the hostarmy that was with him were comearrived, they told Joab, saying, Abner the son of Ner came to the king, and he hathhas sent him away, and he ishas gone in peace. |
| 3:24 |
Then Joab came to the king, and said, What hasthave thouyou done? beholdBehold, Abner came untoto theeyou; why isthen ithave thatyou thou hast sent him away, and he is quitealready gone? |
| 3:25 |
ThouYou knowestknow Abner the son of Ner, that he came to deceive thee, you and to knowlearn thyof your going out and thy coming in, and to knowfind out all that thouyou doestare doing. |
| 3:26 |
AndWhen when Joab wascame come out from David, he sent messengers after Abner, and they brought him back from the well of Sirah:; but David knewdid not know it not. |
| 3:27 |
AndSo when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into the midstmiddle of the gate to speak with him quietlyprivately, and smotethere he struck him there in the body, belly so that he died, foron account of the blood of Asahel his brother. |
| 3:28 |
And afterward, when David heard it, he said, I and my kingdom are guiltlessinnocent before Jehovahthe forLord everforever of the blood of Abner the son of Ner:. |
| 3:29 |
letMay it fall uponon the head of Joab, and uponon all his fathers house; and letmay there not fail from the house of Joab one thatwho hathhas ana issuedischarge, or thatwho is a leper, or thatwho leanethtakes onhold of a staffdistaff, or thatwho fallethfalls by the sword, or thatwho lackethlacks bread. |
| 3:30 |
So Joab and Abishai his brother slewkilled Abner, because he had killedput their brother Asahel atto Gibeondeath in the battle at Gibeon. |
| 3:31 |
AndThen David said to Joab, and to all the people thatwho were with him, RendTear your clothes, and gird youon with sackcloth, and mournlament before Abner. And kingKing David followedwalked behind the bier. |
| 3:32 |
AndThus they buried Abner in Hebron:; and the king lifted up his voice, and wept at the grave of Abner;, and all the people wept. |
| 3:33 |
And the king lamentedchanted a lament for Abner, and said, Should Abner die as a fool diethdies? |
| 3:34 |
ThyYour hands were not bound, nor thyyour feet put intoin fetters:; As aone manfalls falleth before the children of iniquitywicked, soyou didsthave thou fallfallen. And all the people wept again over him. |
| 3:35 |
AndThen all the people came to causepersuade David to eat bread while it was yetstill day; but David swarevowed, saying, May God do so to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or aughtanything else, tillbefore the sun begoes down. |
| 3:36 |
AndNow all the people took noticenote of it, and it pleased them;, just as whatsoevereverything the king did pleased all the people. |
| 3:37 |
So all the people and all Israel understood that day that it washad not been the will of the king to slayput Abner the son of Ner to death. |
| 3:38 |
AndThen the king said untoto his servants, KnowDo yeyou not know that there is a prince and a great man has fallen this day in Israel? |
| 3:39 |
And I am thisweak day weaktoday, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah are too harddifficult for me:. JehovahMay rewardthe Lord repay the evilevildoer doer according to his wickednessevil. |
| 4:1 |
AndNow when Ish bosheth, Sauls son, heard that Abner washad deaddied in Hebron, hishe handslost became feeblecourage, and all theIsrael Israeliteswas were troubleddisturbed. |
| 4:2 |
And Ish bosheth, Sauls son, had two men thatwho were captainscommanders of bands: the name of the one was Baanah, and the name of the other Rechab, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, of the childrensons of Benjamin for Beeroth is also isconsidered reckonedpart toof Benjamin:, |
| 4:3 |
and the Beerothites fled to Gittaim, and have been sojournersaliens there until this day. |
| 4:4 |
Now Jonathan, Sauls son, had a son thatcrippled wasin lame of his feet. He was five years old when the tidingsreport came of Saul and Jonathan outcame offrom Jezreel;, and his nurse took him up, and fled:. andAnd it camehappened tothat pass,in asher shehurry made haste to flee, that he fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth. |
| 4:5 |
AndSo the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, went, departed and came aboutto the heathouse of theIshbosheth dayin to the househeat of Ishthe bosheth, day aswhile he tookwas taking his midday rest at noon. |
| 4:6 |
And they came thitherto into the midstmiddle of the house, as thoughif theyto wouldget have fetched wheat;, and they smotestruck him in the body:belly; and Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped. |
| 4:7 |
Now when they came into the house, as he laywas lying on his bed in his bedchamberbedroom, they smotestruck him, and slewkilled him, and beheaded him,. andAnd they took his head, and wenttraveled by the way of the Arabah all night. |
| 4:8 |
AndThen they brought the head of Ish bosheth untoto David toat Hebron, and said to the king, Behold, the head of Ish bosheth, the son of Saul, thineyour enemy, who sought thyyour life; andthus Jehovahthe hathLord avengedhas given my Lord the king vengeance this day ofon Saul, and of his seeddescendants. |
| 4:9 |
And David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said untoto them, As Jehovahthe livethLord lives, who hathhas redeemed my soullife outfrom of all adversitydistress, |
| 4:10 |
when one told me, saying, Behold, Saul is dead, thinkingand tothought havehe broughtwas bringing good tidingsnews, I tookseized hold of him, and slewkilled him in Ziklag, which was the reward I gave him for his tidingsnews. |
| 4:11 |
How much more, when wicked men have slainkilled a righteous personman in his own house uponon his bed, shall I not now require his blood offrom your hand, and takedestroy you away from the earth? |
| 4:12 |
AndThen David commanded histhe young men, and they slewkilled them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hangedhung them up beside the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ish bosheth, and buried it in the grave of Abner in Hebron. |
| 5:1 |
Then came all the tribes of Israel came to David untoat Hebron, and spakesaid, saying, Behold, we are thyyour bone and thyyour flesh. |
| 5:2 |
In times pastPreviously, when Saul was king over us, ityou waswere thouthe thatone leddestwho led Israel out and broughtest in. Israel:And andthe JehovahLord said to theeyou, ThouYou shaltwill be shepherd ofMy my people Israel, and thouyou shaltwill be princea ruler over Israel. |
| 5:3 |
So all the elders of Israel came to the king toat Hebron;, and kingKing David made a covenant with them inbefore Hebronthe beforeLord Jehovah:at andHebron; then they anointed David king over Israel. |
| 5:4 |
David was thirty years old when he beganbecame to reignking, and he reigned forty years. |
| 5:5 |
InAt Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months;, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah. |
| 5:6 |
AndNow the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, whoand spakethey untosaid to David, saying,You Exceptshall thounot takecome awayin here, but the blind and the lame, thoushall shaltturn notyou come in hitheraway; thinking, David cannot comeenter in hitherhere. |
| 5:7 |
Nevertheless, David tookcaptured the stronghold of Zion;, thethat same is the city of David. |
| 5:8 |
And David said on that day, WhosoeverWhoever smitethwould strike the Jebusites, let him getreach up to the watercourse, and smite the lame and the blind, thatwho are hated ofby Davids soul, through the water tunnel. WhereforeTherefore they say, ThereThe are the blind andor the lame; heshall cannotnot come into the house. |
| 5:9 |
AndSo David dweltlived in the stronghold, and called it the city of David. And David built roundall aboutaround from the Millo and inward. |
| 5:10 |
And David waxedbecame greater and greater;, for Jehovah, the Lord God of hosts, was with him. |
| 5:11 |
AndThen Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, andwith cedar trees, and carpenters, and masonsstonemasons; and they built David a house for David. |
| 5:12 |
And David perceivedrealized that Jehovahthe Lord had established him as king over Israel, and that heHe had exalted his kingdom for histhe sake of His people Israels sakeIsrael. |
| 5:13 |
AndMeanwhile David took him more concubines and wives outfrom of Jerusalem, after he wascame come from Hebron; and theremore were yet sons and daughters were born to David. |
| 5:14 |
AndNow these are the names of those thatwho were born untoto him in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon, |
| 5:15 |
and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia, |
| 5:16 |
and Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphelet. |
| 5:17 |
AndWhen when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek out David; and when David heard of it, andhe went down to the stronghold. |
| 5:18 |
Now the Philistines hadcame come and spread themselves out in the valley of Rephaim. |
| 5:19 |
AndThen David inquired of Jehovahthe Lord, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? wiltWilt thouThou delivergive them into my hand? And Jehovahthe Lord said untoto David, Go up;, for I will certainly delivergive the Philistines into thyyour hand. |
| 5:20 |
AndSo David came to Baal perazim, and Daviddefeated smote them there; and he said, JehovahThe hathLord has broken minethrough my enemies before me, like the breachbreakthrough of waters. Therefore he callednamed the name of that place Baal perazim. |
| 5:21 |
And they leftabandoned their imagesidols there;, andso David and his men tookcarried them away. |
| 5:22 |
AndNow the Philistines came up yetonce again, and spread themselves out in the valley of Rephaim. |
| 5:23 |
And when David inquired of Jehovahthe Lord, heHe said, ThouYou shaltshall not go directly up:; makecircle aaround circuit behind them, and come uponat them overin againstfront of the mulberrybalsam trees. |
| 5:24 |
And it shall be, when thouyou hearesthear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberrybalsam trees, that then thouyou shaltshall bestiract thyself;promptly, for then isthe JehovahLord will have gone out before theeyou to smitestrike the hostarmy of the Philistines. |
| 5:25 |
AndThen David did so, just as Jehovahthe Lord had commanded him, and smotestruck down the Philistines from Geba untilas thoufar comeas to Gezer. |
| 6:1 |
AndNow David again gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. |
| 6:2 |
And David arose, and went with all the people thatwho were with him, fromto Baale judah, to bring up from thencethere the ark of God, which is called by the Name, even the very name of Jehovahthe Lord of hosts thatwho sittethis enthroned above the cherubim. |
| 6:3 |
And they setplaced the ark of God uponon a new cart, andthat broughtthey might bring it outfrom of the house of Abinadab thatwhich was inon the hill:; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drovewere leading the new cart. |
| 6:4 |
AndSo they brought it outwith the ark of God from the house of Abinadab, which was inon the hill,; withand theAhio arkwas ofwalking God:ahead andof Ahio went before the ark. |
| 6:5 |
AndMeanwhile, David and all the house of Israel playedwere celebrating before Jehovahthe Lord with all mannerkinds of instruments made of fir wood, and with harpslyres, and with psalteriesharps, and with timbrelstambourines, and with castanets, and with cymbals. |
| 6:6 |
AndBut when they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah putreached forthout histoward hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it;, for the oxen stumblednearly upset it. |
| 6:7 |
And the anger of Jehovahthe wasLord kindledburned against Uzzah;, and God smotestruck him down there for his errorirreverence; and there he died there by the ark of God. |
| 6:8 |
And David wasbecame displeased, angry because Jehovahof hadthe brokenLords forthoutburst uponagainst Uzzah;, and he called that place is called Perez uzzah, untoto this day. |
| 6:9 |
AndSo David was afraid of Jehovahthe Lord that day; and he said, How shallcan the ark of Jehovahthe Lord come untoto me? |
| 6:10 |
SoAnd David wouldwas notunwilling removeto move the ark of Jehovahthe untoLord him into the city of David with him; but David carriedtook it aside intoto the house of Obed edom the Gittite. |
| 6:11 |
AndThus the ark of Jehovahthe Lord remained in the house of Obed edom the Gittite three months:, and Jehovahthe Lord blessed Obed edom, and all his househousehold. |
| 6:12 |
AndNow it was told kingKing David, saying, JehovahThe hathLord has blessed the house of Obed edom, and all that pertainethbelongs untoto him, becauseon account of the ark of God. And David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed edom into the city of David with joygladness. |
| 6:13 |
And so it was so, that, when theythe thatbearers bareof the ark of Jehovahthe Lord had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fatling. |
| 6:14 |
And David dancedwas dancing before Jehovahthe Lord with all his might;, and David was girdedwearing with a linen ephod. |
| 6:15 |
So David and all the house of Israel broughtwere bringing up the ark of Jehovahthe Lord with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet. |
| 6:16 |
AndThen it washappened so, as the ark of Jehovahthe Lord came into the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looked out atof the window, and saw kingKing David leaping and dancing before Jehovahthe Lord; and she despised him in her heart. |
| 6:17 |
AndSo they brought in the ark of Jehovah, the Lord and set it in its place, ininside the midst of the tent thatwhich David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 6:18 |
And when David had madefinished an end of offering the burnt offering and the peace offeringsoffering, he blessed the people in the name of Jehovahthe Lord of hosts. |
| 6:19 |
AndFurther, he dealtdistributed amongto all the people, evento amongall the whole multitude of Israel, both to men and women, to every one a cake of bread, and aone portion of flesh, dates and aone cake of raisins to each one. SoThen all the people departed everyeach one to his house. |
| 6:20 |
ThenBut when David returned to bless his household., And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel todistinguished day, himself whotoday! He uncovered himself totoday day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, maids as one of the vainfoolish fellowsones shamelessly uncoverethuncovers himself! |
| 6:21 |
AndSo David said untoto Michal, It was before Jehovahthe Lord, who chose me above thyyour father, and above all his house, to appoint me princeruler over the people of Jehovahthe Lord, over Israel:; therefore I will Icelebrate play before Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 6:22 |
And I will be yet more vilelightly esteemed than this, and will be basehumble in minemy own sight:eyes, but ofwith the handmaidsmaids of whom thouyou hasthave spoken, ofwith them shall I will be had in honordistinguished. |
| 6:23 |
And Michal the daughter of Saul had no child untoto the day of her death. |
| 7:1 |
AndNow it came toabout pass, when the king dweltlived in his house, and Jehovahthe Lord had given him rest on every side from all his enemies round about, |
| 7:2 |
that the king said untoto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwellethdwells within tent curtains. |
| 7:3 |
And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thyyour heart;mind, for Jehovahthe Lord is with theeyou. |
| 7:4 |
AndBut it came toabout passin the same night, that the word of Jehovahthe Lord came untoto Nathan, saying, |
| 7:5 |
Go and tellsay myto My servant David, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, ShaltAre thouyou the one who should build meMe a house for me to dwell in? |
| 7:6 |
forFor I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up the childrensons of Israel outfrom of Egypt, even to this day,; but I have walkedbeen moving about in a tent, andeven in a tabernacle. |
| 7:7 |
InWherever all places wherein I have walkedgone with all the childrensons of Israel, spakedid I speak a word with anyone of the tribes of Israel, whomwhich I commanded to be shepherd ofMy my people Israel, saying, Why have yeyou not built meMe a house of cedar? |
| 7:8 |
Now therefore, thus shaltyou thoushall say untoto myMy servant David, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord of hosts, I took theeyou from the sheepcotepasture, from following the sheep, that thouyou shouldestshould be princeruler over myMy people, over Israel;. |
| 7:9 |
andAnd I have been with theeyou whithersoeverwherever thouyou wentest, have gone and have cut off all thineyour enemies from before theeyou; and I will make theeyou a great name, like unto the namenames of the great onesmen thatwho are inon the earth. |
| 7:10 |
And I will also appoint a place for myMy people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwelllive in their own place, and not be moveddisturbed noagain, more;nor neitherwill shall the childrenwicked of wickedness afflict them any more, as at the firstformerly, |
| 7:11 |
andeven as from the day that I commanded judges to be over myMy people Israel; and I will causegive theeyou to rest from all thineyour enemies. MoreoverThe JehovahLord tellethalso theedeclares to you that Jehovahthe Lord will make thee a house for you. |
| 7:12 |
When thyyour days are fulfilled, complete and thouyou shaltlie sleepdown with thyyour fathers, I will setraise up thyyour seeddescendant after theeyou, thatwho shallwill proceedcome outforth offrom thy bowelsyou, and I will establish his kingdom. |
| 7:13 |
He shall build a house for myMy name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for everforever. |
| 7:14 |
I will be hisa father, to him and he shallwill be mya son: ifto Me; when he commitcommits iniquity, I will chastencorrect him with the rod of men, and with the stripesstrokes of the childrensons of men;, |
| 7:15 |
but myMy lovingkindness shall not depart from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I putremoved awayfrom before theeyou. |
| 7:16 |
And thyyour house and thyyour kingdom shall beendure madebefore sureMe forforever; everyour before thee: thy throne shall be established for everforever. |
| 7:17 |
AccordingIn toaccordance with all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speakspoke untoto David. |
| 7:18 |
Then David the king went in, and sat before Jehovah;the Lord, and he said, Who am I, O Lord JehovahGod, and what is my house, that thouThou hast brought me thusthis far? |
| 7:19 |
And yet this was yetinsignificant a small thing in thineThine eyes, O Lord Jehovah;God, butfor thouThou hast spoken also of thythe servants house forof aThy greatservant whileconcerning tothe come;distant andfuture. And this toois after the mannercustom of menman, O Lord Jehovah!God. |
| 7:20 |
And again what more can David say moreto unto theeThee? forFor thouThou knowest thyThy servant, O Lord Jehovah.God! |
| 7:21 |
For thythe wordssake sakeof Thy word, and according to thineThine own heart, Thou hast thoudone wrought all this greatness, to makelet thyThy servant know it. |
| 7:22 |
WhereforeFor thouthis reason Thou art great, O JehovahLord God:; for there is none like theeThee, neitherand there is thereno any God besides theeThee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. |
| 7:23 |
And what one nation inon the earth is like thyThy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem untofor himselfHimself foras a people, and to make him a name for Himself, and to do a great thingsthing for you,Thee and terribleawesome things for thyThy land, before thyThy people, whom thouThou redeemedsthast toredeemed theefor outThyself offrom Egypt, from the nations and their gods? |
| 7:24 |
AndFor thouThou didsthast establishestablished tofor thyselfThyself thyThy people Israel toas beThine aown people untoforever, thee for ever; and thouThou, JehovahO Lord, becamesthast become their God. |
| 7:25 |
AndNow nowtherefore, O JehovahLord God, the word that thouThou hast spoken concerning thyThy servant, and concerning his house, confirm thou it for everforever, and do as thouThou hast spoken., |
| 7:26 |
Andthat letThy thy name may be magnified for everforever, by saying, JehovahThe Lord of hosts is God over Israel; and may the house of thyThy servant David shall be established before theeThee. |
| 7:27 |
For thouThou, O JehovahLord of hosts, the God of Israel, hast revealedmade a revelation to thyThy servant, saying, I will build theeyou a house:; therefore hathThy thy servant has found incourage his heart to pray this prayer untoto theeThee. |
| 7:28 |
And now, O Lord JehovahGod, thouThou art God, and thyThy words are truth, and thouThou hast promised this good thing untoto thyThy servant:. |
| 7:29 |
nowNow therefore, letmay it please theeThee to bless the house of thyThy servant, that it may continue forforever ever before thee;Thee. forFor thouThou, O Lord JehovahGod, hast spoken; it: and with thyThy blessing letmay the house of thyThy servant be blessed for everforever. |
| 8:1 |
AndNow after this it came toabout pass, that David smotedefeated the Philistines, and subdued them:; and David took thecontrol bridle of the motherchief city outfrom of the hand of the Philistines. |
| 8:2 |
And he smotedefeated Moab, and measured them with the line, making them to lie down on the ground; and he measured two lines to put to death, and one full line to keep alive. And the Moabites became servants to David, andbringing brought tribute. |
| 8:3 |
Then David smotedefeated also Hadadezer, the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to recoverrestore his dominionrule at the River. |
| 8:4 |
And David tookcaptured from him a1,700 thousandhorsemen and seven hundred horsemen20,000 andfoot twentysoldiers; thousand footmen: and David hockedhamstrung all the chariot horses, but reserved enough of them for a100 hundred chariots. |
| 8:5 |
And when the SyriansArameans of Damascus came to succorhelp Hadadezer, king of Zobah, David smotekilled of22,000 the Syrians two and twenty thousand menArameans. |
| 8:6 |
Then David put garrisons inamong Syriathe Arameans of Damascus;, and the SyriansArameans became servants to David, andbringing brought tribute. And Jehovahthe gaveLord victoryhelped to David whithersoeverwherever he went. |
| 8:7 |
And David took the shields of gold thatwhich were oncarried by the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem. |
| 8:8 |
And from Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, kingKing David took exceedinga muchvery brasslarge amount of bronze. |
| 8:9 |
AndNow when Toi king of Hamath heard that David had smittendefeated all the hostarmy of Hadadezer, |
| 8:10 |
then Toi sent Joram his son untoto kingKing David, to salutegreet him, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and smittendefeated him:; for Hadadezer had warsbeen at war with Toi. And Joram brought with him vesselsarticles of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of brass:bronze. |
| 8:11 |
theseKing David also diddedicated kingthese Davidto dedicatethe unto JehovahLord, with the silver and gold that he had dedicated offrom all the nations which he had subdued;: |
| 8:12 |
offrom Syria,Aram and of Moab, and of the childrensons of Ammon, and of the Philistines, and of Amalek, and offrom the spoil of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah. |
| 8:13 |
AndSo David gatmade him a name for himself when he returned from smitingkilling the18,000 SyriansArameans in the Valley of Salt, even eighteen thousand men. |
| 8:14 |
And he put garrisons in Edom;. throughoutIn all Edom he put he garrisons, and all the Edomites became servants to David. And Jehovahthe gaveLord victoryhelped to David whithersoeverwherever he went. |
| 8:15 |
AndSo David reigned over all Israel; and David executedadministered justice and righteousness untofor all his people. |
| 8:16 |
And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the host;army, and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder;. |
| 8:17 |
andAnd Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, were priests;, and Seraiah was scribe;secretary. |
| 8:18 |
andAnd Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and Davids sons were chief ministers. |
| 9:1 |
AndThen David said, Is there yet anyanyone that is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathans sake? |
| 9:2 |
AndNow there was a servant of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba, and they called him untoto David; and the king said untoto him, ArtAre thouyou Ziba? And he said, ThyI servantam isyour heservant. |
| 9:3 |
And the king said, Is there not yet anyanyone of the house of Saul, thatto whom I may show the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said untoto the king, JonathanThere hathis yetstill a son, of Jonathan who is lamecrippled ofin hisboth feet. |
| 9:4 |
AndSo the king said untoto him, Where is he? And Ziba said untoto the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, in Lo debar. |
| 9:5 |
Then kingKing David sent, and fetchedbrought him outfrom of the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, from Lo debar. |
| 9:6 |
And Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came untoto David, and fell on his face, and didprostrated obeisancehimself. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answeredsaid, Behold,Here thyis your servant! |
| 9:7 |
And David said untoto him, FearDo not; fear, for I will surely show thee kindness to you for Jonathanthe thysake fathersof sakeyour father Jonathan, and will restore theeto you all the land of Saulyour thygrandfather fatherSaul; and thouyou shaltshall eat bread at my table continuallyregularly. |
| 9:8 |
AndAgain he didprostrated obeisance, himself and said, What is thyyour servant, that thouyou shouldestshould lookregard upon such a dead dog aslike I amme? |
| 9:9 |
Then the king called to Ziba, Sauls servant Ziba, and said untoto him, All that pertainedbelonged to Saul and to all his house I have I given untoto thyyour masters songrandson. |
| 9:10 |
And thouyou shaltand tillyour thesons landand foryour him, servants thou, shall andcultivate thythe sons, land andfor thyhim, servants; and thouyou shaltshall bring in the fruits, produce so that thyyour masters songrandson may have breadfood; tonevertheless eat: but Mephibosheth thyyour masters songrandson shall eat bread alway at my table regularly. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants. |
| 9:11 |
Then Ziba said Zibato unto the king, According to all that my Lord the king commandethcommands his servant, so shallyour thy servant will do. AsSo for Mephibosheth, saidate the king, he shall eat at myDavids table, as one of the kings sons. |
| 9:12 |
And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Mica. And all thatwho dweltlived in the house of Ziba were servants untoto Mephibosheth. |
| 9:13 |
So Mephibosheth dweltlived in Jerusalem;, for he didate eat continually at the kings table regularly. AndNow he was lame in both his feet. |
| 10:1 |
AndNow it camehappened toafterwards pass after this, that the king of the childrenAmmonites of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reignedbecame king in his steadplace. |
| 10:2 |
AndThen David said, I will show kindness untoto Hanun the son of Nahash, just as his father showed kindness untoto me. So David sent bysome of his servants to comfortconsole him concerning his father. AndBut when Davids servants came intoto the land of the children of Ammon.Ammonites, |
| 10:3 |
But the princes of the childrenAmmonites of Ammon said untoto Hanun their Lord, ThinkestDo thouyou think that David dothis honorhonoring thyyour father, inbecause that he hathhas sent comfortersconsolers untoto theeyou? hathHas David not David sent his servants untoto theeyou in order to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it? |
| 10:4 |
So Hanun took Davids servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, evenas tofar as their buttockships, and sent them away. |
| 10:5 |
When they told it untoto David, he sent to meet them;, for the men were greatly ashamedhumiliated. And the king said, TarryStay at Jericho until your beards be growngrow, and then return. |
| 10:6 |
AndNow when the childrensons of Ammon saw that they werehad become odious to David, the childrensons of Ammon sent and hired the SyriansArameans of Beth rehob, and the SyriansArameans of Zobah, twenty20,000 thousandfoot footmensoldiers, and the king of Maacah with a1,000 thousand men, and the men of Tob twelvewith thousand12,000 men. |
| 10:7 |
AndWhen when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the hostarmy, of the mighty men. |
| 10:8 |
And the childrensons of Ammon came out, and putdrew theup in battle in array at the entrance of the gate:city, andwhile the SyriansArameans of Zobah and of Rehob, and the men of Tob and Maacah, were by themselves in the field. |
| 10:9 |
Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him beforein front and behindin the rear, he choseselected offrom all the choice men of Israel, and putarrayed them in array against the Syrians:Arameans. |
| 10:10 |
andBut the restremainder of the people he committedplaced intoin the hand of Abishai his brother;, and he putarrayed them in array against the childrensons of Ammon. |
| 10:11 |
And he said, If the SyriansArameans beare too strong for me, then thouyou shaltshall help me;, but if the childrensons of Ammon beare too strong for theeyou, then I will come andto help theeyou. |
| 10:12 |
Be of good couragestrong, and let us playshow theourselves mancourageous for the sake of our people, and for the cities of our God:; and Jehovahmay the Lord do thatwhat whichis seemethgood himin goodHis sight. |
| 10:13 |
So Joab and the people thatwho were with him drew nighnear untoto the battle against the Syrians:Arameans, and they fled before him. |
| 10:14 |
AndWhen when the childrensons of Ammon saw that the SyriansArameans were fled, they likewisealso fled before Abishai, and entered into the city. Then Joab returned from fighting against the childrensons of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem. |
| 10:15 |
AndWhen when the SyriansArameans saw that they werehad putbeen todefeated theby worse before Israel, they gathered themselves together. |
| 10:16 |
And HadarezerHadadezer sent, and brought out the SyriansArameans thatwho were beyond the River:, and they came to Helam,; withand Shobach the captaincommander of the hostarmy of HadarezerHadadezer atled their headthem. |
| 10:17 |
AndNow when it was told David;, and he gathered all Israel together, and passedcrossed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. And the SyriansArameans setarrayed themselves into arraymeet against David, and fought withagainst him. |
| 10:18 |
AndBut the SyriansArameans fled before Israel;, and David slewkilled of700 thecharioteers Syriansof the menArameans ofand seven hundred chariots40,000 and forty thousand horsemen, and smotestruck down Shobach the captaincommander of their hostarmy, soand that he died there. |
| 10:19 |
AndWhen when all the kings, that were servants toof HadarezerHadadezer, saw that they were putdefeated toby the worse before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the SyriansArameans feared to help the childrensons of Ammon any moreanymore. |
| 11:1 |
AndThen it camehappened toin pass, at the return of the yearspring, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel;, and they destroyed the childrensons of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarriedstayed at Jerusalem. |
| 11:2 |
AndNow itwhen evening came to pass at eventide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked uponaround on the roof of the kings house:, and from the roof he saw a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful toin look uponappearance. |
| 11:3 |
AndSo David sent and inquired afterabout the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathnot shebaBathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? |
| 11:4 |
And David sent messengers, and took her;, and when she came into unto him, and he lay with her; forand when she washad purified herself from her uncleanness;, and she returned untoto her house. |
| 11:5 |
And the woman conceived; and she sent and told David, and said, I am with childpregnant. |
| 11:6 |
AndThen David sent to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. AndSo Joab sent Uriah to David. |
| 11:7 |
AndWhen when Uriah wascame cometo unto him, David asked ofconcerning himthe howwelfare of Joab did, and how the people fared, and howthe state of the war prospered. |
| 11:8 |
AndThen David said to Uriah, Go down to thyyour house, and wash thyyour feet. And Uriah departedwent out of the kings house, and therea followedpresent himfrom athe messking ofwas foodsent fromout theafter kinghim. |
| 11:9 |
But Uriah slept at the door of the kings house with all the servants of his Lord, and wentdid not go down to his house. |
| 11:10 |
AndNow when they had told David, saying, Uriah wentdid not go down untoto his house, David said untoto Uriah, ArtHave thouyou not come from a journey? whereforeWhy didstdid thouyou not go down untoto thyyour house? |
| 11:11 |
And Uriah said untoto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abideare staying in booths;temporary shelters, and my Lord Joab, and the servants of my Lord, are encampedcamping in the open field;. shallShall I then go intoto my house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? asBy thouyour livest, life and asthe thylife of your soul liveth, I will not do this thing. |
| 11:12 |
AndThen David said to Uriah, TarryStay here totoday day also, and totomorrow morrow I will let theeyou departgo. So Uriah aboderemained in Jerusalem that day, and the morrownext. |
| 11:13 |
AndNow when David had called him, and he didate eat and drinkdrank before him;, and he made him drunk:; and atin eventhe evening he went out to lie on his bed with thehis Lords servants of his Lord, but wenthe did not go down to his house. |
| 11:14 |
AndNow it came toabout pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah. |
| 11:15 |
And he wrotehad written in the letter, saying, SetPlace ye Uriah in the forefrontfront line of the hottestfiercest battle, and retirewithdraw ye from him, so that he may be smitten, struck down and die. |
| 11:16 |
AndSo it camewas toas pass, when Joab kept watch uponon the city, that he assignedput Uriah untoat the place where he knew thatthere were valiant men were. |
| 11:17 |
And the men of the city went out, and fought withagainst Joab:, and there fell some of the people, evenamong ofDavids the servants of Davidfell; and Uriah the Hittite also died also. |
| 11:18 |
Then Joab sent and toldreported to David all the thingsevents concerningof the war;. |
| 11:19 |
andAnd he charged the messenger, saying, When thouyou hasthave madefinished an end of telling all the thingsevents concerningof the war untoto the king, |
| 11:20 |
and if it shallhappens be that, if the kings wrath arise, rises and he saysays untoto theeyou, WhereforeWhy wentdid yeyou go so nighnear untoto the city to fight? knewDid yeyou not know that they would shoot from the wall? |
| 11:21 |
whoWho smotestruck down Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? didDid not a woman castthrow an upper millstone uponon him from the wall, so that he died at Thebez? whyWhy wentdid yeyou go so nighnear the wall? then shaltyou thoushall say, ThyYour servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also. |
| 11:22 |
So the messenger went, departed and came and showedreported to David all that Joab had sent him forto tell. |
| 11:23 |
And the messenger said untoto David, The men prevailed against us, and came out untoagainst us intoin the field, andbut we werepressed upon them evenas untofar as the entrance of the gate. |
| 11:24 |
AndMoreover, the shootersarchers shot at thyyour servants from off the wall; andso some of the kings servants are dead, and thyyour servant Uriah the Hittite is also dead also. |
| 11:25 |
Then David said untoto the messenger, Thus shaltyou thoushall say untoto Joab, LetDo not let this thing displease theeyou, for the sword devourethdevours one as well as another; make thyyour battle more strong against the city, stronger and overthrow it:; and so encourage thou him. |
| 11:26 |
AndNow when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mademourned lamentation for her husband. |
| 11:27 |
AndWhen when the time of mourning was pastover, David sent and tookbrought her home to his house, and she became his wife,; andthen bareshe bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeasedwas Jehovahevil in the sight of the Lord. |
| 12:1 |
AndThen Jehovahthe Lord sent Nathan untoto David. And he came untoto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city;, the one rich, and the other poor. |
| 12:2 |
The rich man had exceedinga great many flocks and herds;. |
| 12:3 |
butBut the poor man had nothing, saveexcept one little ewe lamb, whichWhich he had bought and nourished; up:And and it grew up together with him, and with his children;. itIt didwould eat of his ownbread morsel, and drankdrink of his own cup, and laylie in his bosom, andAnd was untolike hima asdaughter ato daughterhim. |
| 12:4 |
AndNow therea traveler came ato traveller unto the rich man, andAnd he sparedwas unwilling to take offrom his own flock andor of his own herd, toTo dressprepare for the wayfaringwayfarer manwho thathad was come untoto him,; butRather he took the poor mans ewe lamb, and dressedprepared it for the man thatwho washad come to him. |
| 12:5 |
AndThen Davids anger wasburned greatly kindled against the man;, and he said to Nathan, As Jehovahthe livethLord lives, surely the man thatwho hathhas done this isdeserves worthy to die:. |
| 12:6 |
andAnd he shallmust restoremake restitution for the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pitycompassion. |
| 12:7 |
And Nathan then said to David, ThouYou artare the man.! Thus saithsays Jehovah, the Lord God of Israel, It is I who anointed theeyou king over Israel, and it is I who delivered theeyou outfrom of the hand of Saul;. |
| 12:8 |
and I also gave theeyou thyyour masters house, and thyyour masters wives into thyyour bosomcare, and I gave theeyou the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would have added untoto theeyou suchmany andmore suchthings things.like these! |
| 12:9 |
WhereforeWhy hasthave thouyou despised the word of Jehovah, the toLord doby thatdoing which is evil in hisHis sight? thouYou hasthave smittenstruck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword, andhave hast taken his wife to be thyyour wife, and hasthave slainkilled him with the sword of the childrensons of Ammon. |
| 12:10 |
Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from thyyour house, because thouyou hasthave despised me,Me and hasthave taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thyyour wife. |
| 12:11 |
Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, Behold, I will raise up evil against theeyou outfrom ofyour thine own househousehold; and I will even take thyyour wives before thineyour eyes, and give them untoto thyyour neighborcompanion, and he shall lie with thyyour wives in thebroad sight of this sundaylight. |
| 12:12 |
ForIndeed thouyou didstdid it secretly:, but I will do this thing before all Israel, and beforeunder the sun. |
| 12:13 |
AndThen David said untoto Nathan, I have sinned against Jehovahthe Lord. And Nathan said untoto David, JehovahThe Lord also hathhas puttaken away thyyour sin; thouyou shaltshall not die. |
| 12:14 |
HowbeitHowever, because by this deed thouyou hasthave given great occasion to the enemies of Jehovahthe Lord to blaspheme, the child also that is born untoto theeyou shall surely die. |
| 12:15 |
AndSo Nathan departedwent untoto his house. AndThen Jehovahthe Lord struck the child that Uriahs wifewidow barebore untoto David, andso itthat he was very sick. |
| 12:16 |
David therefore besoughtinquired of God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night uponon the earthground. |
| 12:17 |
And the elders of his househousehold arose, and stood beside him, in order to raise him up from the earth:ground, but he wouldwas not, unwilling neitherand didwould henot eat breadfood with them. |
| 12:18 |
AndThen it camehappened to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David fearedwere afraid to tell him that the child was dead;, for they said, Behold, while the child was yetstill alive, we spakespoke untoto him, and he hearkeneddid not untolisten to our voice:. howHow will he then vexcan himself, if we tell him that the child is dead, since he might do himself harm! |
| 12:19 |
But when David saw that his servants were whispering together, David perceived that the child was dead; andso David said untoto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead. |
| 12:20 |
ThenSo David arose from the earthground, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparelclothes; and he came into the house of Jehovah, the Lord and worshipped:worshiped. thenThen he came to his own house;, and when he requiredrequested, they set breadfood before him, and he did eatate. |
| 12:21 |
Then said his servants untosaid to him, What thing is this thing that thouyou hasthave done? thouWhile didstthe fastchild andwas weep for the childalive, whileyou itfasted wasand alivewept; but when the child was deaddied, thouyou didstarose rise and eatate breadfood. |
| 12:22 |
And he said, While the child was yetstill alive, I fasted and wept:; for I said, Who knowethknows, whetherthe JehovahLord willmay not be gracious to me, that the child may live?. |
| 12:23 |
But now he ishas dead, died; whereforewhy should I fast? canCan I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he will not return to me. |
| 12:24 |
AndThen David comforted Bath sheba his wife Bathsheba, and went in untoto her, and lay with her:; and she baregave birth to a son, and he callednamed hishim name Solomon. AndNow Jehovahthe Lord loved him; |
| 12:25 |
and he sent byword thethrough hand of Nathan the prophet;, and he callednamed hishim name Jedidiah, for Jehovahsthe Lords sake. |
| 12:26 |
Now Joab fought against Rabbah of the childrensons of Ammon, and tookcaptured the royal city. |
| 12:27 |
And Joab sent messengers to David, and said, I have fought against Rabbah; yea, I have takeneven captured the city of waters. |
| 12:28 |
Now therefore, gather the rest of the people together, and encampcamp against the city, and takecapture it;, lest I takecapture the city, myself and it be callednamed after my nameme. |
| 12:29 |
AndSo David gathered all the people together, and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and tookcaptured it. |
| 12:30 |
AndThen he took the crown of their king from off his head; and theits weight thereof was a talent of gold, and in it werewas a precious stonesstone; and it was setplaced on Davids head. And he brought forthout the spoil of the city, exceedingin muchgreat amounts. |
| 12:31 |
AndHe healso brought forthout the people thatwho were thereinin it, and putset them under saws, andsharp underiron harrows of ironinstruments, and underiron axes of iron, and made them pass through the brickkiln:. andAnd thus he did heto unto all the cities of the childrensons of Ammon. AndThen David and all the people returned untoto Jerusalem. |
| 13:1 |
AndNow it camewas to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fairbeautiful sister, whose name was Tamar;, and Amnon the son of David loved her. |
| 13:2 |
And Amnon was so vexedfrustrated that he fell sick because of his sister Tamar; that he made himself ill, for she was a virgin;, and it seemed hard to Amnon to do anything untoto her. |
| 13:3 |
But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, Davids brother:; and Jonadab was a very subtleshrewd man. |
| 13:4 |
And he said untoto him, Why, O son of the king, artwhy thouare thusyou leanso fromdepressed daymorning toafter daymorning? wiltWill thouyou not tell me? AndThen Amnon said untoto him, I am in love with Tamar, the sister of my brother Absaloms sisterAbsalom. |
| 13:5 |
And Jonadab then said untoto him, LayLie thee down on thyyour bed, and feignpretend thyselfto sick:be andill; when thyyour father comethcomes to see theeyou, say untoto him, LetPlease let my sister Tamar come, I pray thee, and give me breadsome food to eat, and dresslet her prepare the food in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it from her hand. |
| 13:6 |
So Amnon lay down, and feignedpretended himselfto sick:be andill; when the king wascame come to see him, Amnon said untoto the king, LetPlease let my sister Tamar come, I pray thee, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat from her hand. |
| 13:7 |
Then David sent home to the house for Tamar, saying, Go now to thyyour brother Amnons house, and dressprepare food for him food. |
| 13:8 |
So Tamar went to her brother Amnons house;, and he was laidlying down. And she took dough, and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and didbaked bake the cakes. |
| 13:9 |
And she took the pan, and poureddished them out before him;, but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Have outeveryone allgo menout from me. AndSo theyeveryone went out every man from him. |
| 13:10 |
AndThen Amnon said untoto Tamar, Bring the food into the chamberbedroom, that I may eat from thyyour hand. AndSo Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the chamberbedroom to Amnon her brother Amnon. |
| 13:11 |
AndWhen when she had brought them nearto unto him to eat, he took hold of her, and said untoto her, Come, lie with me, my sister. |
| 13:12 |
AndBut she answered him, NayNo, my brother, do not forceviolate me;, for no such a thing oughtis tonot be done in Israel:; do not thoudo this folly.disgraceful thing! |
| 13:13 |
AndAs Ifor me, whitherwhere shallcould I carryget rid of my shamereproach? andAnd as for theeyou, thouyou wiltwill be aslike one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, Iplease pray thee, speak untoto the king;, for he will not withhold me from theeyou. |
| 13:14 |
HowbeitHowever, he would not hearkenlisten untoto her voice; butsince beinghe was stronger than she, he forcedviolated her, and lay with her. |
| 13:15 |
Then Amnon hated her with exceedinga very great hatred; for the hatred wherewithwith which he hated her was greater than the love wherewithwith which he had loved her. And Amnon said untoto her, AriseGet up, bego gone.away! |
| 13:16 |
AndBut she said untoto him, Not soNo, because this great wrong in puttingsending me forthaway is worsegreater than the other that thouyou didsthave untodone to me.! ButYet he would not hearkenlisten untoto her. |
| 13:17 |
Then he called his servantyoung thatman ministeredwho untoattended him, and said, PutNow nowthrow this woman out fromof memy presence, and boltlock the door afterbehind her. |
| 13:18 |
AndNow she had on a garmentlong ofsleeved diversgarment; colorsfor uponin her;this formanner withthe suchvirgin robesdaughters wereof the kingsking daughtersdressed thatthemselves werein virgins apparelledrobes. Then his servantattendant broughttook her out, and boltedlocked the door afterbehind her. |
| 13:19 |
And Tamar put ashes on her head, and renttore her garmentlong ofsleeved diversgarment colorswhich that was on her; and she laidput her hand on her head, and went her wayaway, crying aloud as she went. |
| 13:20 |
AndThen Absalom her brother said untoto her, HathHas Amnon thyyour brother been with theeyou? butBut now holdkeep thy peacesilent, my sister:, he is thyyour brother; takedo not take this thingmatter to heart. So Tamar remained and was desolate in her brother Absaloms house. |
| 13:21 |
ButNow when kingKing David heard of all these thingsmatters, he was very wrothangry. |
| 13:22 |
AndBut Absalom spakedid untonot speak to Amnon neithereither good noror bad; for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forcedviolated his sister Tamar. |
| 13:23 |
AndNow it came toabout pass after two full years, that Absalom had sheepsheepshearers shearers in Baal hazor, which is besidenear Ephraim:, and Absalom invited all the kings sons. |
| 13:24 |
And Absalom came to the king, and said, Behold now, thyyour servant hathhas sheep shearerssheepshearers; please let the king, I pray thee, and his servants go with thyyour servant. |
| 13:25 |
AndBut the king said to Absalom, NayNo, my son, letwe usshould not all go, lest we be burdensome untoto theeyou. AndAlthough he pressedurged him:, howbeit he would not go, but blessed him. |
| 13:26 |
Then Absalom said Absalom, If not, Iplease pray thee, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said untoto him, Why should he go with theeyou? |
| 13:27 |
But when Absalom pressedurged him, and he let Amnon and all the kings sons go with him. |
| 13:28 |
And Absalom commanded his servants, saying, MarkSee ye now, when Amnons heart is merry with wine;, and when I say untoto you, SmiteStrike Amnon, then killput him; fearto death. Do not fear; have not I myself commanded you? beBe courageous, and be valiant. |
| 13:29 |
And the servants of Absalom did untoto Amnon just as Absalom had commanded. Then all the kings sons arose, and everyeach manmounted gat him up upon his mule, and fled. |
| 13:30 |
AndNow it camewas to pass, while they were inon the way, that the tidingsreport came to David, saying, Absalom hathhas slainstruck down all the kings sons, and there is not one of them is left. |
| 13:31 |
Then the king arose, andtore rent his garments, clothes and lay on the earthground; and all his servants stoodwere standing by with their clothes renttorn. |
| 13:32 |
And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, Davids brother, answered and saidresponded, LetDo not let my Lord suppose that they have killedput to death all the young men, the kings sons;, for Amnon onlyalone is dead:; forbecause by the appointmentintent of Absalom this hathhas been determined fromsince the day that he forcedviolated his sister Tamar. |
| 13:33 |
Now therefore, letdo not let my Lord the king take the thingreport to his heart, tonamely, think that all the kings sons are dead;, for only Amnon only is dead. |
| 13:34 |
ButNow Absalom had fled. And the young man thatwho keptwas the watchwatchman liftedraised up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, theremany camepeople muchwere peoplecoming byfrom the wayroad ofbehind him by the hill side behindof himthe mountain. |
| 13:35 |
And Jonadab said untoto the king, Behold, the kings sons arehave come:; asaccording thyto servantyour saidservants word, so it ishappened. |
| 13:36 |
And it came toabout pass, as soon as he had madefinished an end of speaking, that, behold, the kings sons came, and lifted up their voice, voices and wept:; and also the king also and all his servants wept very sorebitterly. |
| 13:37 |
ButNow Absalom fled, and went to Talmai the son of AmmihurAmmihud, the king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day. |
| 13:38 |
So Absalom had fled, and wentgone to Geshur, and was there three years. |
| 13:39 |
And the soulheart of kingKing David longed to go forthout untoto Absalom:; for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeingsince he was dead. |
| 14:1 |
Now Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the kings heart was inclined toward Absalom. |
| 14:2 |
AndSo Joab sent to Tekoa, and fetchedbrought thence a wise woman, from there and said untoto her, IPlease praypretend thee, feign thyself to be a mourner, and put on mourning apparel, garments I pray theenow, and anointdo not thyselfanoint yourself with oil, but be aslike a woman thatwho hathhas abeen longmourning time mourned for the dead: many days; |
| 14:3 |
andthen go in to the king, and speak onto him in this manner unto him. So Joab put the words in her mouth. |
| 14:4 |
AndNow when the woman of Tekoa spakespoke to the king, she fell on her face to the ground, and didprostrated obeisance, herself and said, Help, O king. |
| 14:5 |
And the king said untoto her, What ailethis theeyour trouble? And she answered, OfTruly a truth I am a widow, andfor my husband is dead. |
| 14:6 |
And thyyour handmaidmaidservant had two sons, andbut theythe two stroveof them struggled together in the field, and there was noneno one to partseparate them, butso the one smotestruck the other, and killed him. |
| 14:7 |
And,Now behold, the whole family ishas risen against thyyour handmaidmaidservant, and they say, DeliverHand himover thatthe smoteone who struck his brother, that we may killput him to death for the life of his brother whom he slewkilled, and so destroy the heir also. Thus they will theyextinguish quench my coal which is left, andso willas to leave to my husband neither name nor remainderremnant uponon the face of the earth. |
| 14:8 |
AndThen the king said untoto the woman, Go to thyyour house, and I will give chargeorders concerning theeyou. |
| 14:9 |
And the woman of Tekoa said untoto the king, MyO my Lord, Othe king, the iniquity beis on me, and on my fathers house;, andbut the king and his throne beare guiltless. |
| 14:10 |
AndSo the king said, WhosoeverWhoever saithspeaks aughtto unto theeyou, bring him to me, and he shallwill not touch theeyou any moreanymore. |
| 14:11 |
Then she said she, IPlease pray thee, let the king remember Jehovahthe thyLord your God, so that the avenger of blood destroymay not anycontinue moreto destroy, lest they destroy my son. And he said, As Jehovahthe livethLord lives, there shall not one hair of thyyour son shall fall to the earthground. |
| 14:12 |
Then the woman said, LetPlease thylet handmaid, your Imaidservant pray thee, speak a word untoto my Lord the king. And he said, Say onSpeak. |
| 14:13 |
And the woman said, WhereforeWhy then hasthave thouyou devisedplanned such a thing against the people of God? forFor in speaking this word the king is as one thatwho is guilty, in that the king dothdoes not fetchbring homeback again his banished one. |
| 14:14 |
For we mustshall needssurely die, and are aslike water spiltspilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again;. neitherYet doth God does not take away life, but devisethplans means, ways thatso he that isthe banished beone may not anbe outcastcast out from him. |
| 14:15 |
Now thereforethe seeingreason that I amhave come to speak this word untoto my Lord the king, it is because the people have made me afraid:; andso thyyour handmaidmaidservant said, ILet willme now speak untoto the king;, itperhaps may be that the king will perform the request of his servantmaidservant. |
| 14:16 |
For the king will hear, toand deliver his servantmaidservant outfrom of the hand of the man thatwho would destroy both me and my son togetherfrom out of the inheritance of God. |
| 14:17 |
Then thyyour handmaidmaidservant said, Let,Please Ilet pray thee, the word of my Lord the king be comfortable;comforting, for as anthe angel of God, so is my Lord the king to discern good and bad:evil. andAnd Jehovahmay thythe Lord your God be with theeyou. |
| 14:18 |
Then the king answered and said untoto the woman, HidePlease do not hide anything from me, that I prayam thee, about aughtto that I shall ask theeyou. And the woman said, Let my Lord the king nowplease speak. |
| 14:19 |
AndSo the king said, Is the hand of Joab with theeyou in all this? And the woman answered and said, As thyyour soul livethlives, my Lord the king, noneno one can turn to the right hand or to the left from aughtanything that my Lord the king hathhas spoken;. forIndeed, thyit was your servant Joab, hewho badecommanded me, and it was he who put all these words in the mouth of thyyour handmaidmaidservant; |
| 14:20 |
in order to change the faceappearance of thethings matteryour hath thy servant Joab has done this thing:. andBut my Lord is wise, accordinglike to the wisdom of anthe angel of God, to know all things that areis in the earth. |
| 14:21 |
AndThen the king said untoto Joab, Behold now, I havewill donesurely do this thing:; go therefore, bring back the young man Absalom back. |
| 14:22 |
And Joab fell to the ground on his face, andto didthe obeisanceground, prostrated himself and blessed the king; andthen Joab said, ToToday dayyour thy servant knowethknows that I have found favor in thyyour sight, O my Lord, Othe king, in that the king hathhas performed the request of his servant. |
| 14:24 |
AndHowever the king said, Let him turn to his own house, butand let him not see my face. So Absalom turned to his own house, and sawdid not see the kings face. |
| 14:25 |
Now in all Israel there was noneno toone beas sohandsome much praised as Absalom, forso hishighly beauty:praised; from the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemishdefect in him. |
| 14:26 |
And when he cut the hair of his head nowand it was at the end of every yearsyear end that he cut it;, becausefor it was heavy on him, thereforeso he cut it;, he weighed the hair of his head at two200 hundred shekels, afterby the kings weight. |
| 14:27 |
And untoto Absalom there were born three sons, and one daughter, whose name was Tamar:; she was a woman of abeautiful fair countenanceappearance. |
| 14:28 |
AndNow Absalom dweltlived two full years in Jerusalem;, and hedid saw not see the kings face. |
| 14:29 |
Then Absalom sent for Joab, to send him to the king;, but he would not come to him:. andSo he sent again a second time, but he would not come. |
| 14:30 |
Therefore he said untoto his servants, See, Joabs field is nearnext to mine, and he hathhas barley there; go and set it on fire. AndSo Absaloms servants set the field on fire. |
| 14:31 |
Then Joab arose, and came to Absalom untoat his house, and said untoto him, WhereforeWhy have thyyour servants set my field on fire? |
| 14:32 |
And Absalom answered Joab, Behold, I sent untofor theeyou, saying, Come hitherhere, that I may send theeyou to the king, to say, WhereforeWhy amhave I come from Geshur? itIt werewould be better for me still to be there still. Now therefore, let me see the kings face; and if there beis iniquity in me, let him killput me to death. |
| 14:33 |
So when Joab came to the king, and told him;, and when he had called for Absalom,. Thus he came to the king, and bowedprostrated himself on his face to the ground before the king:, and the king kissed Absalom. |
| 15:1 |
AndNow it came toabout pass after this, that Absalom preparedprovided himfor himself a chariot and horses, and fifty men toas runrunners before him. |
| 15:2 |
And Absalom roseused upto rise early, and stoodstand beside the way ofto the gate:; and it washappened so, that, when any man had a suit whichto should come to the king for judgment, then Absalom calledwould untocall to him, and saidsay, OfFrom what city artare thouyou? And he saidwould say, ThyYour servant is offrom one of the tribes of Israel. |
| 15:3 |
AndThen Absalom saidwould untosay to him, See, thyyour mattersclaims are good and right;, but there is no man deputedlistens ofto you on the kingpart toof hearthe theeking. |
| 15:4 |
Moreover, Absalom saidwould moreoversay, Oh that Ione werewould madeappoint me judge in the land, thatthen every man who hathhas any suit or cause mightcould come untoto me, and I would dogive him justice!. |
| 15:5 |
And it washappened so, that, when anya man came nighnear to doprostrate himself before him obeisance, he would put forthout his hand, and tooktake hold of him, and kissedkiss him. |
| 15:6 |
And onin this manner did Absalom todealt with all Israel thatwho came to the king for judgment:; so Absalom stole away the hearts of the men of Israel. |
| 15:7 |
AndNow it came toabout pass at the end of forty years, that Absalom said untoto the king, IPlease pray thee, let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed untoto Jehovahthe Lord, in Hebron. |
| 15:8 |
For thyyour servant vowed a vow while I abodewas living at Geshur in SyriaAram, saying, If Jehovahthe Lord shall indeed bring me againback to Jerusalem, then I will serve Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 15:9 |
And the king said untoto him, Go in peace. So he arose, and went to Hebron. |
| 15:10 |
But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as yeyou hear the sound of the trumpet, then yeyou shall say, Absalom is king in Hebron. |
| 15:11 |
AndThen with Absalom went two hundred men outwent ofwith Absalom from Jerusalem, thatwho were invited, and went ininnocently, their simplicity; and they knewdid not know anything. |
| 15:12 |
And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, Davids counsellorcounselor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he was offering the sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong;, for the people increased continually with Absalom. |
| 15:13 |
AndThen there came a messenger came to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are afterwith Absalom. |
| 15:14 |
And David said untoto all his servants thatwho were with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us flee;, for elseotherwise none of us shall escape from Absalom:. makeGo speedin to departhaste, lest he overtake us quickly, and bring down evilcalamity uponon us, and smitestrike the city with the edge of the sword. |
| 15:15 |
AndThen the kings servants said untoto the king, Behold, thyyour servants are ready to do whatsoeverwhatever my Lord the king shall choosechooses. |
| 15:16 |
AndSo the king went forth, out and all his household afterwith him. AndBut the king left ten women, that were concubines, to keep the house. |
| 15:17 |
And the king went forth, out and all the people afterwith him;, and they tarriedstopped inat Beththe merhaklast house. |
| 15:18 |
AndNow all his servants passed on beside him;, and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men thatwho camehad aftercome with him from Gath, passed on before the king. |
| 15:19 |
Then said the king said to Ittai the Gittite, WhereforeWhy goestwill thouyou also go with us? return,Return and abideremain with the king:, for thouyou artare a foreigner, and also an exile; return to thineyour own place. |
| 15:20 |
WhereasYou thoucame camestonly but yesterday, shouldand shall I thistoday day make theeyou gowander up and down with us, seeingwhile I go whitherwhere I maywill? returnReturn thou, and take back thyyour brethrenbrothers; mercy and truth be with theeyou. |
| 15:21 |
AndBut Ittai answered the king, and said, As Jehovahthe livethLord lives, and as my Lord the king livethlives, surely inwherever what place my Lord the king shallmay be, whether for death or for life, even there also willyour thy servant will be. |
| 15:22 |
AndTherefore David said to Ittai, Go and pass over. AndSo Ittai the Gittite passed over, andwith all his men, and all the little ones thatwho were with him. |
| 15:23 |
AndWhile all the country weptwas weeping with a loud voice, and all the people passed over:. theThe king also himself passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over, toward the way of the wilderness. |
| 15:24 |
And,Now lobehold, Zadok also came, and all the Levites with him, bearingcarrying the ark of the covenant of God;. andAnd they set down the ark of God;, and Abiathar wentcame up, until all the people had donefinished passing outfrom of the city. |
| 15:25 |
And the king said untoto Zadok, CarryReturn back the ark of God intoto the city:. ifIf I shall find favor in the eyessight of Jehovahthe Lord, hethen He will bring me back again, and show me both it, and hisHis habitation:. |
| 15:26 |
butBut if heHe should say thus, I have no delight in thee;you, behold, here I am I, let himHim do to me as seemethseems good untoto himHim. |
| 15:27 |
The king said also untoto Zadok the priest, ArtAre thouyou not a seer? returnReturn intoto the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaazyour thy son, Ahimaaz and Jonathan the son of Abiathar. |
| 15:28 |
See, I willam tarrygoing to wait at the fords of the wilderness, until thereword comecomes word from you to certifyinform me. |
| 15:29 |
Therefore Zadok therefore and Abiathar carriedreturned the ark of God again to Jerusalem: and theyremained abode there. |
| 15:30 |
And David went up by the ascent of the mountMount of Olives, and wept as he went, up; and he had his head was covered, and wenthe walked barefoot:. andThen all the people thatwho were with him each covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up. |
| 15:31 |
AndNow onesomeone told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O JehovahLord, I pray thee, turnmake the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness. |
| 15:32 |
AndIt ithappened cameas to pass, that, when David was comecoming to the top of the ascentsummit, where God was worshippedworshiped, that behold, Hushai the Archite camemet to meet him with his coat renttorn, and earthdust uponon his head. |
| 15:33 |
And David said untoto him, If thouyou passestpass onover with me, then thouyou wiltwill be a burden untoto me:. |
| 15:34 |
butBut if thouyou return to the city, and say untoto Absalom, I will be thyyour servant, O king; as I have been thyyour fathers servant in time past, so I will I now be thyyour servant;, then wiltyou thoucan defeatthwart for me the counsel of Ahithophel for me. |
| 15:35 |
And hastare thou not there with thee Zadok and Abiathar the priests with you there? thereforeSo it shall be, that whatwhatever thingyou soever thou shalt hear outfrom of the kings house, thouyou shaltshall tellreport it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests. |
| 15:36 |
Behold, theytheir havetwo theresons are with them their two sonsthere, Ahimaaz, Zadoks son, and Jonathan, Abiathars son; and by them yeyou shall send unto me everything that yeyou shall hear. |
| 15:37 |
So Hushai, Davids friend, came into the city;, and Absalom came into Jerusalem. |
| 16:1 |
AndNow when David washad passed a little pastbeyond the top of the ascentsummit, behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him, with a couple of assessaddled saddleddonkeys, and uponon them were two hundred loaves of bread, and a hundred clusters of raisins, and a hundred of summer fruits, and a bottlejug of wine. |
| 16:2 |
And the king said untoto Ziba, WhatWhy meanestdo thouyou byhave these? And Ziba said, The assesdonkeys are for the kings household to ride, on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat;, and the wine, thatfor suchwhoever asis are faint in the wilderness mayto drink. |
| 16:3 |
AndThen the king said, And where is thyyour masters son? And Ziba said untoto the king, Behold, he abidethis atstaying in Jerusalem;, for he said, ToToday day will the house of Israel will restore me the kingdom of my father to me. |
| 16:4 |
ThenSo said the king said to Ziba, Behold, thine is all that pertainethbelongs untoto Mephibosheth is yours. And Ziba said, I doprostrate obeisancemyself; let me find favor in thyyour sight, O my Lord, Othe king.! |
| 16:5 |
AndWhen whenKing king David came to Bahurim, behold, there came out thencefrom there a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera; he came out, andcursing cursedcontinually still as he came. |
| 16:6 |
And he castthrew stones at David, and at all the servants of kingKing David:; and all the people and all the mighty men were onat his right hand and onat his left. |
| 16:7 |
And thus Shimei said Shimei when he cursed, BegoneGet out, begoneget out, thouyou man of bloodbloodshed, and baseworthless fellow:! |
| 16:8 |
JehovahThe hathLord has returned upon theeyou all the bloodbloodshed of the house of Saul, in whose steadplace thouyou hasthave reigned; and Jehovahthe hathLord deliveredhas given the kingdom into the hand of Absalomyour thy son; and,Absalom. And behold, thouyou artare taken in thineyour own mischiefevil, becausefor thouyou artare a man of blood.bloodshed! |
| 16:9 |
Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah untosaid to the king, Why should this dead dog curse my Lord the king? letLet me go over, I pray theenow, and takecut off his head. |
| 16:10 |
AndBut the king said, What have I to do with you, yeO sons of Zeruiah? BecauseIf he cursethcurses, and becauseif Jehovahthe hathLord saidhas untotold him, Curse David;, then who then shall say, WhereforeWhy hasthave thouyou done so? |
| 16:11 |
AndThen David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, who came forthout from myme bowels, seeks seeketh my life:; how much more maynow this Benjamite now do it? letLet him alone, and let him curse;, for Jehovahthe hathLord biddenhas told him. |
| 16:12 |
ItPerhaps maythe beLord that Jehovah will look on themy wrongaffliction done unto me, and thatreturn Jehovahgood willto requite me goodinstead forof his cursing of me this day. |
| 16:13 |
So David and his men went byon the way; and Shimei went along on the hillhillside sideparallel overwith against him, and cursed as he went he cursed, and threwcast stones atand him, threw anddust castat dusthim. |
| 16:14 |
And the king, and all the people thatwho were with him, camearrived weary; and he refreshed himself there. |
| 16:15 |
AndThen Absalom, and all the people, the men of Israel, cameentered to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him. |
| 16:16 |
AndNow it came toabout pass, when Hushai the Archite, Davids friend, wascame cometo unto Absalom, that Hushai said untoto Absalom, Long live the king,! Long live the king.! |
| 16:17 |
And Absalom said to Hushai, Is this thyyour kindnessloyalty to thyyour friend? whyWhy wentestdid thouyou not go with thyyour friend? |
| 16:18 |
AndThen Hushai said untoto Absalom, Nay;No! butFor whom Jehovahthe Lord, and this people, and all the men of Israel have chosen, his will I be, and with him I will I abideremain. |
| 16:19 |
And againbesides, whom should I serve? shouldShould I not serve in the presence of his son? asAs I have served in thyyour fathers presence, so I will I be in thyyour presence. |
| 16:20 |
Then Absalom said Absalom to Ahithophel, Give your counseladvice. whatWhat shall we shall do.? |
| 16:21 |
And Ahithophel said untoto Absalom, Go in untoto thyyour fathers concubines, thatwhom he hathhas left to keep the house; andthen all Israel will hear that thouyou arthave abhorredmade ofyourself thyodious father:to thenyour willfather. theThe hands of all thatwho are with theeyou will also be strongstrengthened. |
| 16:22 |
So they spreadpitched Absalom a tent uponfor theAbsalom topon of the house;roof, and Absalom went in untoto his fathers concubines in the sight of all Israel. |
| 16:23 |
And the counseladvice of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, was as if aone man inquired atof the oracleword of God:; so was all the counseladvice of Ahithophel regarded by both with David and with Absalom. |
| 17:1 |
MoreoverFurthermore, Ahithophel said untoto Absalom, LetPlease let me now choose out12,000 twelve thousand men, andthat I willmay arise and pursue after David this night:tonight. |
| 17:2 |
andAnd I will come upon him while he is weary and weakexhausted handed, and will maketerrify him afraid;so andthat all the people thatwho are with him shallwill flee;. andThen I will smitestrike down the king only;alone, |
| 17:3 |
and I will bring back all the people untoto thee:you. theThe manreturn whomof thoueveryone seekestdepends ison asthe ifman allyou returned:seek; sothen all the people shall be inat peace. |
| 17:4 |
AndSo the sayingplan pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel. |
| 17:5 |
Then Absalom said Absalom, CallNow nowcall Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear likewise what he saithhas to say. |
| 17:6 |
AndWhen when Hushai washad come to Absalom, Absalom spakesaid untoto him, saying, Ahithophel hathhas spoken afterthus. thisShall manner: shall we docarry afterout his sayingplan? ifIf not, you speak thou. |
| 17:7 |
AndSo Hushai said untoto Absalom, TheThis counseltime the advice that Ahithophel hathhas given this time is not good. |
| 17:8 |
Moreover, Hushai said moreover, ThouYou knowestknow thyyour father and his men, that they are mighty men, and they are chafed in their mindsfierce, aslike a bear robbed of her whelpscubs in the field;. andAnd thyyour father is aan manexpert ofin warwarfare, and will not lodgespend the night with the people. |
| 17:9 |
Behold, he ishas hid now hidden himself in someone pit,of the caves or in someanother other place:; and it will comebe towhen pass,he whenfalls someon of them are fallen at the first attack, that whosoeverwhoever hearethhears it will say, There ishas been a slaughter among the people thatwho follow Absalom. |
| 17:10 |
And even hethe thatone who is valiant, whose heart is aslike the heart of a lion, will utterlycompletely meltlose heart; for all Israel knowethknows that thyyour father is a mighty man, and theythose thatwho are with him are valiant men. |
| 17:11 |
But I counsel that all Israel be surely gathered togetherto unto theeyou, from Dan even to Beer shebaBeersheba, as the sand that is by the sea forin multitude;abundance, and that thouyou personally go tointo battle in thine own person. |
| 17:12 |
So we shall we come uponto him in someone placeof the places where he shallcan be found, and we will lightfall uponon him as the dew fallethfalls on the ground; and of him and of all the men thatwho are with him, we will not leaveeven soone muchwill asbe oneleft. |
| 17:13 |
Moreover,And if he bewithdraws gotten into a city, then shall all Israel shall bring ropes to that city, and we will drawdrag it into the river, valley until therenot beeven nota one small stone is found there. |
| 17:14 |
AndThen Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For Jehovahthe Lord had ordained to defeatthwart the good counsel of Ahithophel, toin theorder intent that Jehovahthe Lord might bring evilcalamity uponon Absalom. |
| 17:15 |
Then Hushai said Hushaito unto Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, ThusThis andis thuswhat did Ahithophel counselcounseled Absalom and the elders of Israel;, and thusthis andis thuswhat I have I counselledcounseled. |
| 17:16 |
Now therefore, send quickly, and tell David, saying, LodgeDo not thisspend the night at the fords of the wilderness, but by all means passcross over;, lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people thatwho are with him be destroyed. |
| 17:17 |
Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz were staying byat En rogel;, and a maidmaidservant servantwould used to go and tell them;, and they wentwould go and toldtell kingKing David:, for they mightcould not be seen toentering come into the city. |
| 17:18 |
But a lad sawdid see them, and told Absalom:; andso theythe wenttwo both of them awaydeparted quickly, and came to the house of a man in Bahurim, who had a well in his court;courtyard, and they went down thitherinto it. |
| 17:19 |
And the woman took a covering and spread theit covering over the wells mouth, and strewedscattered bruised grain thereon;on andit, so that nothing was known. |
| 17:20 |
AndThen Absaloms servants came to the woman toat the house; and they said, Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman said untoto them, They arehave gonecrossed over the brook of water. And when they hadsearched sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem. |
| 17:21 |
And it came toabout pass, after they werehad departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told kingKing David; and they said untoto David, Arise ye, and passcross quickly over the water; quickly for thus hath Ahithophel counselledhas counseled against you. |
| 17:22 |
Then David arose, and all the people thatwho were with him, arose and theycrossed passed over the Jordan:; and by thedawn morningnot lighteven there lacked not one ofremained themwho thathad was not gonecrossed over the Jordan. |
| 17:23 |
AndNow when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, donkey and arose, and gatwent himto his home, untoto his city, and set his house in order, and hangedstrangled himself; andthus he died, and was buried in the sepulchregrave of his father. |
| 17:24 |
Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom passedcrossed over the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him. |
| 17:25 |
And Absalom set Amasa over the hostarmy insteadin place of Joab. Now Amasa was the son of a man, whose name was Ithra the Israelite, thatwho went in to AbigalAbigail the daughter of Nahash, sister toof Zeruiah, Joabs mother. |
| 17:26 |
And Israel and Absalom encampedcamped in the land of Gilead. |
| 17:27 |
AndNow it came to pass, when David washad come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash offrom Rabbah of the childrensons of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel offrom Lo debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite offrom Rogelim, |
| 17:28 |
brought beds, and basins, and earthen vesselspottery, and wheat, and barley, and mealflour, and parched grain, and beans, and lentils, and parched pulseseeds, |
| 17:29 |
and honey, and buttercurds, and sheep, and cheese of the herd, for David, and for the people thatwho were with him, to eat:; for they said, The people are hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness. |
| 18:1 |
AndThen David numbered the people thatwho were with him, and set captainsover them commanders of thousands and captainscommanders of hundreds over them. |
| 18:2 |
And David sent forth the people out, aone third part under the handcommand of Joab, andone a third part under the handcommand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joabs brother, and aone third part under the handcommand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said untoto the people, I myself will surely go forthout with you myself also. |
| 18:3 |
But the people said, ThouYou shaltshould not go forth:out; for if we indeed flee away, they will not care forabout us;, neithereven if half of us die, they will theynot care forabout us:. butBut thouyou artare worth ten thousand of us; therefore now it is better that thouyou be ready to succorhelp us outfrom of the city. |
| 18:4 |
AndThen the king said untoto them, WhatWhatever seemethseems best to you best I will do. AndSo the king stood bybeside the gate side, and all the people went out by hundreds and by thousands. |
| 18:5 |
And the king commandedcharged Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Deal gently for my sake with the young man, even with Absalom. And all the people heard when the king gavecharged all the captainscommanders charge concerning Absalom. |
| 18:6 |
SoThen the people went out into the field against Israel:, and the battle wastook place in the forest of Ephraim. |
| 18:7 |
And the people of Israel were smittendefeated there before the servants of David, and therethe was a great slaughter there that day ofwas twentygreat, thousand20,000 men. |
| 18:8 |
For the battle there was there spread over the facewhole ofcountryside, all the country; and the forest devoured more people that day than the sword devoured. |
| 18:9 |
AndNow Absalom chancedhappened to meet the servants of David. AndFor Absalom was riding uponon his mule, and the mule went under the thick boughsbranches of a great oak,. andAnd his head caught holdfast ofin the oak, andso he was takenleft uphanging between heaven and earth;, andwhile the mule that was under him wentkept ongoing. |
| 18:10 |
AndWhen a certain man saw it, andhe told Joab, and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanging in an oak. |
| 18:11 |
AndThen Joab said untoto the man thatwho had told him, And,Now behold, thouyou sawestsaw it,him! andWhy whythen didstdid thouyou not smitestrike him there to the ground? andAnd I would have given theeyou ten pieces of silver, and a girdlebelt. |
| 18:12 |
And the man said untoto Joab, ThoughEven if I should receive a thousand pieces of silver in my hand, yetI would I not put forthout my hand against the kings son:; for in our hearing the king charged theeyou and Abishai and Ittai, saying, BewareProtect thatfor noneme touch the young man Absalom.! |
| 18:13 |
Otherwise, if I had dealt falselytreacherously against his life and there is nonothing matterhidden hid from the king, then thouyou thyselfyourself wouldestwould have setstood thyself against mealoof. |
| 18:14 |
Then Joab said Joab, I maywill not tarrywaste thustime here with theeyou. AndSo he took three dartsspears in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak. |
| 18:15 |
And ten young men thatwho barecarried Joabs armor compassedgathered aboutaround and smotestruck Absalom, and slewkilled him. |
| 18:16 |
AndThen Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel;, for Joab heldrestrained back the people. |
| 18:17 |
And they took Absalom, and cast him into thea greatdeep pit in the forest, and raisederected over him a very great heap of stones:. andAnd all Israel fled, everyeach one to his tent. |
| 18:18 |
Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and rearedset up for himself thea pillar, which is in the kingsKings dale;Valley, for he said, I have no son to keeppreserve my name. inSo remembrance: and he callednamed the pillar after his own name;, and it is called Absaloms monument, untoto this day. |
| 18:19 |
Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, LetPlease let me now run, and bearbring the king tidings, news how that Jehovahthe hathLord avengedhas freed him from the hand of his enemies. |
| 18:20 |
AndBut Joab said untoto him, ThouYou shaltare not be the bearerman ofto tidingscarry news this day, but thouyou shaltshall bearcarry tidingsnews another day; buthowever, thisyou dayshall thoucarry shaltno bearnews notoday tidings, because the kings son is dead. |
| 18:21 |
Then Joab said Joab to the Cushite, Go, tell the king what thouyou hasthave seen. AndSo the Cushite bowed himselfto unto Joab, and ran. |
| 18:22 |
ThenNow said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yetsaid againonce more to Joab, But comewhatever what mayhappens, please let me, I pray thee, also run after the Cushite. And Joab said, WhereforeWhy wiltwould thouyou run, my son, seeingsince thatyou thouwill wilt have no reward for the tidingsgoing? |
| 18:23 |
But comewhatever what mayhappens, he said he, I will run. AndSo he said untoto him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the Plain, plain and outranpassed up the Cushite. |
| 18:24 |
Now David was sitting between the two gates:; and the watchman went up to the roof of the gate untoby the wall, and liftedraised up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, a man running aloneby himself. |
| 18:25 |
And the watchman cried, called and told the king. And the king said, If he beis alone,by himself there is tidingsgood news in his mouth. And he came apace, nearer and drew nearnearer. |
| 18:26 |
AndThen the watchman saw another man running; and the watchman called untoto the porter, gatekeeper and said, Behold, another man running aloneby himself. And the king said, HeThis one also bringethis tidingsbringing good news. |
| 18:27 |
And the watchman said, I think the running of the foremostfirst one is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, HeThis is a good man, and comethcomes with good tidingsnews. |
| 18:28 |
And Ahimaaz called, and said untoto the king, All is well. And he bowedprostrated himself before the king with his face to the earth, ground. andAnd he said, Blessed beis Jehovahthe thyLord your God, who hathhas delivered up the men thatwho lifted up their handhands against my Lord the king. |
| 18:29 |
And the king said, Is it well with the young man Absalom? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the kings servant, evenand meyour thy servant, I saw a great tumult, but I knewdid not know what it was. |
| 18:30 |
AndThen the king said, Turn aside, and stand here. AndSo he turned aside, and stood still. |
| 18:31 |
And, behold, the Cushite came;arrived, and the Cushite said, TidingsLet for my Lord the king; receive good news, for Jehovahthe hathLord avengedhas theefreed you this day from the hand of all themthose thatwho rose up against theeyou. |
| 18:32 |
AndThen the king said untoto the Cushite, Is it well with the young man Absalom? And the Cushite answered, TheLet the enemies of my Lord the king, and all thatwho rise up against theeyou tofor do thee hurtevil, be as that young man is.! |
| 18:33 |
And the king was muchdeeply moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept:. andAnd asthus he went, said thusas he saidwalked, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! wouldWould I had died forinstead theeof you, O Absalom, my son, my son! |
| 19:1 |
AndThen it was told Joab, Behold, the king weepethis weeping and mournethmourns for Absalom. |
| 19:2 |
And the victory that day was turned intoto mourning untofor all the people;, for the people heard sayit said that day, The king grievethis grieved for his son. |
| 19:3 |
AndSo the people gatwent them by stealth that day into the city that day, as people thatwho are ashamedhumiliated steal away when they flee in battle. |
| 19:4 |
And the king covered his face, and thecried kingout cried with a loud voice, O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son! |
| 19:5 |
AndThen Joab came into the house to the king, and said, ThouToday hastyou shamedhave thiscovered daywith shame the faces of all thyyour servants, who thistoday day have saved thyyour life, and the lives of thyyour sons and of thy daughters, and the lives of thyyour wives, and the lives of thyyour concubines;, |
| 19:6 |
inby thatloving thouthose lovestwho them that hate theeyou, and hatestby themhating thatthose who love theeyou. For thouyou hasthave declaredshown thistoday day, that princes and servants are noughtnothing untoto thee:you; for I know this day I perceive, that if Absalom hadwere lived, alive and all weof hadus diedwere thisdead daytoday, then ityou hadwould be pleased thee well. |
| 19:7 |
Now therefore arise, go forth, out and speak comfortablykindly untoto thyyour servants;, for I swear by Jehovahthe Lord, if thouyou godo not forthgo out, theresurely will not tarry a man withwill theepass thisthe night: with you, and thatthis will be worse untofor theeyou than all the evil that hathhas befallencome theeupon you from thyyour youth until now. |
| 19:8 |
ThenSo the king arose, and sat in the gate. AndWhen they told unto all the people, saying, Behold, the king is sitting in the gate:, andthen all the people came before the king. Now Israel had fled, everyeach man to his tent. |
| 19:9 |
And all the people were atquarreling strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The king delivered us outfrom of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us outfrom of the hand of the Philistines;, andbut now he ishas fled out of the land from Absalom. |
| 19:10 |
AndHowever, Absalom, whom we anointed over us, ishas deaddied in battle. Now thereforethen, why speakare yeyou notsilent aabout word of bringing the king back? |
| 19:11 |
AndThen kingKing David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, Speak untoto the elders of Judah, saying, Why are yeyou the last to bring the king back to his house?, seeingsince the speechword of all Israel ishas come to the king, toeven bring him to his house.? |
| 19:12 |
YeYou are my brethren, brothers; yeyou are my bone and my flesh:. whereforeWhy then areshould yeyou be the last to bring back the king? |
| 19:13 |
And say ye to Amasa, ArtAre thouyou not my bone and my flesh? May God do so to me, and more also, if thouyou bewill not captainbe commander of the hostarmy before me continually in theplace room of Joab. |
| 19:14 |
AndThus he bowedturned the hearthearts of all the men of Judah, even as the heart of one man;, so that they sent untoword to the king, saying, Return thou, you and all thyyour servants. |
| 19:15 |
SoThe the king then returned, and came toas far as the Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, in order to go to meet the king, to bring the king overacross the Jordan. |
| 19:16 |
AndThen Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite, who was offrom Bahurim, hastedhurried and came down with the men of Judah to meet kingKing David. |
| 19:17 |
And there were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, andwith Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they wentrushed throughto the Jordan inbefore the presence of the king. |
| 19:18 |
AndThen therethey wentkept overcrossing athe ferryford boat to bring over the kings household, and to do what hewas thoughtgood goodin his sight. And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king, whenas he was comeabout overto cross the Jordan. |
| 19:19 |
AndSo he said untoto the king, Let not my Lord imputeconsider iniquityme unto meguilty, neithernor do thou remember thatwhat whichyour thy servant did perverselywrong on the day thatwhen my Lord the king wentcame out offrom Jerusalem, so that the king should take it to his heart. |
| 19:20 |
For thyyour servant dothknows know that I have sinned:; therefore, behold, I amhave come thistoday, day the first of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my Lord the king. |
| 19:21 |
But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, ShallShould not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed Jehovahsthe Lords anointed? |
| 19:22 |
And David then said, What have I to do with you, yeO sons of Zeruiah, that yeyou should this day be adversariesan untoadversary to me? shallShould there any man be put to death this day in Israel today? forFor do I not I know that I am this day king over Israel today? |
| 19:23 |
And the king said untoto Shimei, ThouYou shaltshall not die. AndThus the king swareswore untoto him. |
| 19:24 |
AndThen Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king; and he had neither dressedcared for his feet, nor trimmed his beardmustache, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came home in peace. |
| 19:25 |
And it camewas to pass, when he wascame comefrom to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said untoto him, WhereforeWhy wentestdid you not thougo with me, Mephibosheth? |
| 19:26 |
AndSo he answered, MyO my Lord, Othe king, my servant deceived me:; for thyyour servant said, I will saddle mea andonkey ass,for myself that I may ride thereon,on it and go with the king;, because thyyour servant is lame. |
| 19:27 |
AndMoreover, he hathhas slandered thyyour servant untoto my Lord the king; but my Lord the king is aslike anthe angel of God:, therefore do therefore what is good in thineyour eyessight. |
| 19:28 |
For all my fathers househousehold werewas nothing but dead men before my Lord the king; yet didstyou thou set thyyour servant among themthose thatwho didate eat at thineyour own table. What right thereforedo I have I yet that I should crycomplain anyanymore moreto unto the king? |
| 19:29 |
AndSo the king said untoto him, Why speakestdo thouyou anystill morespeak of thyyour mattersaffairs? I sayhave decided, ThouYou and Ziba shall divide the land. |
| 19:30 |
And Mephibosheth said untoto the king, yea,Let let him even take it all, forasmuchsince as my Lord the king ishas come insafely peaceto unto his own house. |
| 19:31 |
AndNow Barzillai the Gileadite camehad come down from Rogelim; and he went overon to the Jordan with the king, to conductescort him over the Jordan. |
| 19:32 |
Now Barzillai was a very aged manold, evenbeing fourscoreeighty years old:; and he had providedsustained the king with sustenance while he laystayed at Mahanaim;, for he was a very great man. |
| 19:33 |
And the king said untoto Barzillai, ComeYou thoucross over with me, and I will sustain theeyou in Jerusalem with me in Jerusalem. |
| 19:34 |
AndBut Barzillai said untoto the king, How manylong arehave theI daysyet ofto the years of my lifelive, that I should go up with the king untoto Jerusalem? |
| 19:35 |
I am thisnow dayeighty fourscore years old:. canCan I discerndistinguish between good and bad? Or can thyyour servant taste what I eat or what I drink? Or can I hear anyanymore more the voice of singing men and singing women? whereforeWhy then should thyyour servant be yetan aadded burden untoto my Lord the king? |
| 19:36 |
ThyYour servant would butmerely justcross go over the Jordan with the king:. andWhy why should the king recompensecompensate it me with suchthis a reward? |
| 19:37 |
LetPlease thylet your servant, I pray theereturn, turn back again, that I may die in minemy own city, bynear the grave of my father and my mother. But beholdHowever, thyhere is your servant Chimham;, let him gocross over with my Lord the king;, and do tofor him what shallis seem good untoin theeyour sight. |
| 19:38 |
And the king answered, Chimham shall gocross over with me, and I will do tofor him thatwhat whichis shallgood seemin goodyour untosight; thee: and whatsoeverwhatever thouyou shalt require of me, thatI will I do for theeyou. |
| 19:39 |
AndAll all the people wentcrossed over the Jordan, and the king wentcrossed over:too. andThe the king then kissed Barzillai, and blessed him;, and he returned untoto his own place. |
| 19:40 |
SoNow the king went overon to Gilgal, and Chimham went overon with him:; and all the people of Judah brought the king over, and also half the people of Israel accompanied the king. |
| 19:41 |
And, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said untoto the king, Why havehad our brethrenbrothers the men of Judah stolen theeyou away, and brought the king, and his household, over the Jordan, and all Davids men with him over the Jordan? |
| 19:42 |
AndThen all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is neara ofclose kinrelative to us:. whereforeWhy then are yeyou angry forabout this matter? haveHave we eaten at all at the kings cost?expense, or hathhas heanything givenbeen ustaken anyfor giftus? |
| 19:43 |
AndBut the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, andtherefore we also have also more rightclaim inon David than ye:you. whyWhy then did yeyou despisetreat us, thatwith ourcontempt? adviceWas shouldit not beour advice first hadto inbring bringing back our king? AndYet the words of the men of Judah were fiercerharsher than the words of the men of Israel. |
| 20:1 |
AndNow therea worthless fellow happened to be there a base fellow, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite:; and he blew the trumpet, and said, We have no portion in David, neitherNor havedo we have inheritance in the son of Jesse:; everyEvery man to his tents, O Israel.! |
| 20:2 |
So all the men of Israel wentwithdrew up from following David, and followed Sheba the son of Bichri; but the men of Judah claveremained untosteadfast to their king, from the Jordan even to Jerusalem. |
| 20:3 |
AndThen David came to his house at Jerusalem;, and the king took the ten women, histhe concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and putplaced them inunder ward, guard and provided them with sustenance, but wentdid not go in untoto them. So they were shut up untountil the day of their death, living inas widowhoodwidows. |
| 20:4 |
Then said the king said to Amasa, Call meout the men of Judah togetherfor me within three days, and be thoupresent here presentyourself. |
| 20:5 |
So Amasa went to call out the men of Judah, together; but he tarrieddelayed longer than the set time which he had appointed him. |
| 20:6 |
And David said to Abishai, Now will Sheba the son of Bichri will do us more harm than did Absalom:; take thouyour thy Lords servants, and pursue after him, lest he getfind himfor himself fortified cities, and escape outfrom of our sight. |
| 20:7 |
AndSo thereJoabs men went out after him, Joabsalong men, with and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men; and they went out offrom Jerusalem, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri. |
| 20:8 |
When they were at the greatlarge stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. AndNow Joab was girdeddressed within his apparelmilitary of war that he had put onattire, and thereonover it was a girdlebelt with a sword fastenedin uponits hissheath loinsfastened inat thehis sheath thereofwaist; and as he went forthforward, it fell out. |
| 20:9 |
And Joab said to Amasa, Is it well with theeyou, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him. |
| 20:10 |
But Amasa tookwas nonot heedon toguard against the sword thatwhich was in Joabs hand: so he smotestruck him therewith in the body, belly with it and shedpoured out his bowelsinward toparts on the ground, and struckdid not strike him not again; and he died. AndThen Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri. |
| 20:11 |
AndNow there stood by him one of Joabs young men, and said, HeWhoever thatfavors favoreth Joab, and hewhoever that is for David, let him follow Joab. |
| 20:12 |
AndBut Amasa lay wallowing in his blood in the midstmiddle of the highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he carriedremoved Amasa outfrom of the highway into the field, and castthrew a garment over him, when he saw that everyeveryone onewho that came by him stood still. |
| 20:13 |
WhenAs soon as he was removed outfrom of the highway, all the peoplemen wentpassed on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri. |
| 20:14 |
AndNow he went through all the tribes of Israel untoto Abel, andeven to Beth maacah, and all the Berites:; and they were gathered together, and also went also after him. |
| 20:15 |
And they came and besieged him in Abel of Beth maacah, and they cast up a mound against the city, and it stood againstby the rampart; and all the people thatwho were with Joab batteredwere thewreaking wall, destruction in order to throwtopple itthe downwall. |
| 20:16 |
Then cried a wise woman outcalled offrom the city, Hear, hear;! say,Please Itell pray you, unto Joab, Come nearhere hither, that I may speak with theeyou. |
| 20:17 |
AndSo he cameapproached near unto her;, and the woman said, ArtAre thouyou Joab? And he answered, I am. Then she said untoto him, HearListen to the words of thyyour handmaidmaidservant. And he answered, I doam hearlistening. |
| 20:18 |
Then she spakespoke, saying, TheyFormerly werethey wontused to speak in old timesay, saying, They shallwill surely ask counseladvice at Abel:, and sothus they ended the matterdispute. |
| 20:19 |
I am of themthose thatwho are peaceable and faithful in Israel:. thouYou seekestare seeking to destroy a city, andeven a mother in Israel:. whyWhy wiltwould thouyou swallow up the inheritance of Jehovahthe Lord? |
| 20:20 |
And Joab answered and said, Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy.! |
| 20:21 |
TheSuch matter is not so:the butcase. But a man offrom the hill country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, hathhas lifted up his hand against theKing king,David. evenOnly againsthand David; deliver him onlyover, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said untoto Joab, Behold, his head shallwill be thrown to theeyou over the wall. |
| 20:22 |
Then the woman wentwisely untocame to all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and threw it out to Joab. AndSo he blew the trumpet, and they were dispersed from the city, everyeach man to his tent. And Joab also returned to Jerusalemthe untoking theat kingJerusalem. |
| 20:23 |
Now Joab was over all the hostwhole army of Israel;, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites; |
| 20:24 |
and Adoram was over the menforced subjectlabor, to taskwork; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was the recorder; |
| 20:25 |
and Sheva was scribe;, and Zadok and Abiathar were priests; |
| 20:26 |
and also Ira the Jairite was chiefalso ministera untopriest to David. |
| 21:1 |
AndNow there was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David sought the facepresence of Jehovahthe Lord. And Jehovahthe Lord said, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he put the Gibeonites to death the Gibeonites. |
| 21:2 |
AndSo the king called the Gibeonites, and saidspoke untoto them now the Gibeonites were not of the childrensons of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites;, and the childrensons of Israel hadmade sworna untocovenant with them:, andbut Saul had sought to slaykill them in his zeal for the childrensons of Israel and Judah;. |
| 21:3 |
andThus David said untoto the Gibeonites, What shallshould I do for you? andAnd wherewithhow shallcan I make atonement, that yeyou may bless the inheritance of Jehovahthe Lord? |
| 21:4 |
AndThen the Gibeonites said untoto him, ItWe ishave no matterconcern of silver or gold betweenwith us and Saul, or his house;, neithernor is it for us to put any man to death in Israel. And he said, WhatI ye shall say, that will I do for you whatever you say. |
| 21:5 |
AndSo they said untoto the king, The man thatwho consumed us, and thatwho devisedplanned againstto exterminate us, that we should be destroyed from remaining inwithin any ofborder the borders of Israel, |
| 21:6 |
let seven men offrom his sons be deliveredgiven untoto us, and we will hang them upbefore untothe JehovahLord in Gibeah of Saul, the chosen of Jehovahthe Lord. And the king said, I will give them. |
| 21:7 |
But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of Jehovahsthe oath thatof the Lord which was between them, between David and JonathanSauls the son of SaulJonathan. |
| 21:8 |
ButSo the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, Armoni and Mephibosheth whom she barehad untoborn to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of MichalMerab the daughter of Saul, whom she barehad born to Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite:. |
| 21:9 |
andThen he deliveredgave them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them in the mountain before Jehovahthe Lord, andso theythat fellthe all seven of them fell together.; Andand they were put to death in the first days of harvest, in the first days, at the beginning of barley harvest. |
| 21:10 |
And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it for herherself uponon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until waterit wasrained pouredon upon them from heaventhe sky; and she sufferedallowed neither the birds of the heavenssky to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night. |
| 21:11 |
AndWhen it was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done., |
| 21:12 |
Andthen David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabesh gilead, who had stolen them from the streetopen square of Beth shan, where the Philistines had hanged them, inon the day that the Philistines slewstruck down Saul in Gilboa;. |
| 21:13 |
andAnd he brought up from thence the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son: from there, and they gathered the bones of themthose thatwho werehad been hanged. |
| 21:14 |
And they buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin in Zela, in the sepulchregrave of Kish his father:; andthus they performeddid all that the king commanded., Andand after that God was entreatedmoved by entreaty for the land. |
| 21:15 |
AndNow when the Philistines hadwere at war again with Israel;, and David went down, and his servants with him,; and as they fought against the Philistines., And David waxedbecame faint;weary. |
| 21:16 |
andThen Ishbi benob, who was ofamong the sonsdescendants of the giant, the weight of whose spear was three hundred shekels of brassbronze in weight, hewas being girded with a new sword, thoughtand he intended to havekill slain David. |
| 21:17 |
But Abishai the son of Zeruiah succoredhelped him, and smotestruck the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David swareswore untoto him, saying, ThouYou shaltshall not go noout moreagain out with us to battle, that thouyou quenchmay not extinguish the lamp of Israel. |
| 21:18 |
AndNow it came toabout pass after this, that there was war again war with the Philistines at Gob:; then Sibbecai the Hushathite slewstruck down Saph, who was ofamong the sonsdescendants of the giant. |
| 21:19 |
And there was again war with the Philistines again at Gob;, and Elhanan the son of Jaare oregim the BethBethlehemite lehemitekilled slew Goliath the Gittite, the staffshaft of whose spear was like a weavers beam. |
| 21:20 |
And there was again war at Gath again, where there was a man of great stature, thatwho had six fingers on everyeach hand and six fingers, toes and on everyeach foot, sixtwenty toes, four and twenty in number; and he also washad been born to the giant. |
| 21:21 |
And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimei, Davids brother, slewstruck him down. |
| 21:22 |
These four were born to the giant in Gath;, and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants. |
| 22:1 |
And David spakespoke unto Jehovah the words of this song to the Lord in the day that Jehovahthe Lord delivered him outfrom of the hand of all his enemies, and outfrom of the hand of Saul:. |
| 22:2 |
andAnd he said, JehovahThe Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer, even mine; |
| 22:3 |
My God, my rock, in himwhom will I take refuge; My shield, and the horn of my salvation, my highstronghold tower, and my refuge; My savioursavior, thouThou savestdost save me from violence. |
| 22:4 |
I will call upon Jehovahthe Lord, who is worthy to be praised:; SoAnd shall I beam saved from minemy enemies. |
| 22:5 |
For the waves of death compassedencompassed me; The floodstorrents of ungodlinessdestruction madeoverwhelmed me afraid:; |
| 22:6 |
The cords of Sheol weresurrounded round about me; The snares of death cameconfronted upon me. |
| 22:7 |
In my distress I called upon Jehovah;the YeaLord, Yes, I calledcried untoto my God:; And hefrom His temple He heard my voice out of his temple, And my cry for help came into hisHis ears. |
| 22:8 |
Then the earth shook and trembledquaked, The foundations of heaven quakedwere trembling And were shaken, because heHe was wrothangry. |
| 22:9 |
ThereSmoke went up a smoke out of hisHis nostrils, And fire outfrom ofHis his mouth devoured:; Coals were kindled by it. |
| 22:10 |
He bowed the heavens also, and came down; AndWith thick darkness was under hisHis feet. |
| 22:11 |
And heHe rode uponon a cherub, and did flyflew; Yea,And heHe wasappeared seenon upon the wings of the wind. |
| 22:12 |
And heHe made darkness pavilionscanopies roundaround about himHim, GatheringA mass of waters, thick clouds of the skiessky. |
| 22:13 |
AtFrom the brightness before himHim Coals of fire were kindled. |
| 22:14 |
JehovahThe Lord thundered from heaven, And the Most High uttered hisHis voice. |
| 22:15 |
And heHe sent out arrows, and scattered them;, Lightning, and discomfitedrouted them. |
| 22:16 |
Then the channels of the sea appeared, The foundations of the world were laid bare, By the rebuke of Jehovahthe Lord, At the blast of the breath of hisHis nostrils. |
| 22:17 |
He sent from on high, heHe took me; He drew me out of many waters;. |
| 22:18 |
He delivered me from my strong enemy, From themthose thatwho hated me;, for they were too mightystrong for me. |
| 22:19 |
They cameconfronted upon me in the day of my calamity;, But Jehovahthe Lord was my staysupport. |
| 22:20 |
He also brought me forth also into a largebroad place; He deliveredrescued me, because heHe delighted in me. |
| 22:21 |

| 22:30 |
For by theeThee I can run upon a troop; By my God do I can leap over a wall. |
| 22:31 |
As for God, hisHis way is perfect:blameless; The word of Jehovahthe Lord is triedtested; He is a shield untoto all themwho that take refuge in himHim. |
| 22:32 |
For who is God, savebesides Jehovahthe Lord? And who is a rock, savebesides our God? |
| 22:33 |
God is my strong fortress; And heHe guidethsets the perfectblameless in hisHis way. |

| 23:2 |
The Spirit of Jehovahthe spakeLord spoke by me, And hisHis word was uponon my tongue. |
| 23:3 |
The God of Israel said, The Rock of Israel spakespoke to me:, OneHe thatwho rulethrules over men righteously, ThatWho rulethrules in the fear of God, |
| 23:4 |
HeIs shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun risethrises, A morning without clouds, When the tender grass springethsprings out of the earth, Through clearsunshine shining after rain. |
| 23:5 |
VerilyTruly is not my house is not so with God;? YetFor heHe hathhas made with me an everlasting covenant with me, Ordered in all things, and sure:secured; For it is all my salvation, and all my desire, AlthoughWill heHe makethnot itindeed notmake toit grow.? |
| 23:6 |
But the ungodlyworthless, shallevery beone all of them aswill thorns to be thrust away like thorns, Because they cannot be taken within the hand; |
| 23:7 |
But the man thatwho touchethtouches them Must be armed with iron and the staffshaft of a spear:, And they shallwill be utterlycompletely burned with fire in their place. |
| 23:8 |
These are the names of the mighty men whom David had: Josheb basshebeth a Tahchemonite, chief of the captains;, thehe same was called Adino the Eznite, againstbecause of eight hundred slain by him at one time.; |
| 23:9 |
Andand after him was Eleazar the son of DodaiDodo the son of an Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they defied the Philistines thatwho were there gathered togetherthere to battle, and the men of Israel werehad gone awaywithdrawn. |
| 23:10 |
He arose, and smotestruck the Philistines until his hand was weary, and hisclung handto clave unto the sword;, and Jehovahthe wroughtLord brought about a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to takestrip spoilthe slain. |
| 23:11 |
AndNow after him was Shammah the son of Agee a Hararite. And the Philistines were gathered together into a troop, where there was a plot of ground full of lentils;, and the people fled from the Philistines. |
| 23:12 |
But he stoodtook his stand in the midst of the plot, and defended it, and slewstruck the Philistines; and Jehovahthe wroughtLord brought about a great victory. |
| 23:13 |
AndThen three of the thirty chief men went down, and came to David in the harvest time untoto the cave of Adullam;, andwhile the troop of the Philistines was encampedcamping in the valley of Rephaim. |
| 23:14 |
And David was then in the stronghold;, andwhile the garrison of the Philistines was then in Beth lehemBethlehem. |
| 23:15 |
And David longed, had a craving and said, Oh that onesomeone would give me water to drink offrom the well of BethBethlehem lehem, which is by the gate! |
| 23:16 |
AndSo the three mighty men brakebroke through the hostcamp of the Philistines, and drew water outfrom of the well of BethBethlehem lehem, which that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David:. butNevertheless he would not drink thereofit, but poured it out untoto Jehovah.the Lord; |
| 23:17 |
Andand he said, Be it far from me, O JehovahLord, that I should do this:. shallShall I drink the blood of the men thatwho went in jeopardy of their lives? thereforeTherefore he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty men did. |
| 23:18 |
And Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief of the threethirty. And he liftedswung up his spear against three hundred and slewkilled them, and had a name amongas well as the three. |
| 23:19 |
WasHe hewas not most honorablehonored of the three?thirty, therefore he wasbecame made their captain:commander; howbeithowever, he attaineddid not untoattain to the first three. |
| 23:20 |
AndThen Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done mighty deeds, hekilled slew the two sons of Ariel of Moab:. heHe also went down also and slewkilled a lion in the midstmiddle of a pit inon timea ofsnowy snowday. |
| 23:21 |
And he slewkilled an Egyptian, aan goodlyimpressive man:. andNow the Egyptian had a spear in his hand;, but he went down to him with a staff, club and pluckedsnatched the spear outfrom of the Egyptians hand, and slewkilled him with his own spear. |
| 23:22 |
These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada did, and had a name amongas well as the three mighty men. |
| 23:23 |
He was morehonored honorableamong than the thirty, but he attaineddid not attain to the first three. And David setappointed him over his guard. |
| 23:24 |
Asahel the brother of Joab was oneamong of the thirty; Elhanan the son of Dodo of Beth lehemBethlehem, |
| 23:29 |
Heleb the son of Baanah the Netophathite, Ittai the son of Ribai of Gibeah of the childrensons of Benjamin, |
| 23:30 |
Benaiah a Pirathonite, Hiddai of the brooks of Gaash., |

| 23:39 |
Uriah the Hittite:; thirty and seven in all. |
| 24:1 |
AndNow again the anger of Jehovahthe wasLord kindledburned against Israel, and heit movedincited David against them, sayingto say, Go, number Israel and Judah. |
| 24:2 |
And the king said to Joab the captaincommander of the host, army who was with him, Go about now to and fro through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beer shebaBeersheba, and numberregister ye the people, that I may know the sumnumber of the people. |
| 24:3 |
AndBut Joab said untoto the king, Now Jehovahmay thythe Lord your God add untoto the people, howa hundred times as many soeveras they may beare, awhile hundredfold; and may the eyes of my Lord the king still see; it: but why dothdoes my Lord the king delight in this thing? |
| 24:4 |
NotwithstandingNevertheless, the kings word prevailed against Joab, and against the captainscommanders of the hostarmy. AndSo Joab and the captainscommanders of the hostarmy went out from the presence of the king, to numberregister the people of Israel. |
| 24:5 |
And they passedcrossed over the Jordan, and encampedcamped in Aroer, on the right side of the city that is in the middle of the valley of Gad, and untotoward Jazer:. |
| 24:6 |
thenThen they came to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtim hodshi;, and they came to Dan jaan, and roundaround about to Sidon, |
| 24:7 |
and came to the strongholdfortress of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites, and of the Canaanites;, and they went out to the south of Judah, atto Beer shebaBeersheba. |
| 24:8 |
So when they had gone toabout and fro through all the whole land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days. |
| 24:9 |
And Joab gave up the sumnumber of the numberingregistration of the people untoto the king:; and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men thatwho drew the sword;, and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men. |
| 24:10 |
AndNow Davids heart smotetroubled him after that he had numbered the people. AndSo David said untoto Jehovahthe Lord, I have sinned greatly in thatwhat which I have done:. butBut now, O JehovahLord, putplease take away, I beseech thee, the iniquity of thyThy servant;, for I have doneacted very foolishly. |
| 24:11 |
AndWhen when David rosearose up in the morning, the word of Jehovahthe Lord came untoto the prophet Gad, Davids seer, saying, |
| 24:12 |
Go and speak untoto David, Thus saiththe JehovahLord says, I offeram theeoffering you three things:; choose theefor yourself one of them, thatwhich I may do itto unto theeyou. |
| 24:13 |
So Gad came to David, and told him, and said untoto him, Shall seven years of famine come untoto theeyou in thyyour land? orOr wiltwill thouyou flee three months before thyyour foes while they pursue theeyou? orOr shall there be three days pestilence in thyyour land? nowNow adviseconsider thee, and considersee what answer I shall return to himHim thatwho sent me. |
| 24:14 |
AndThen David said untoto Gad, I am in a great strait:distress. letLet us now fall now into the hand of Jehovah;the Lord for hisHis mercies are great;, andbut do not let me not fall into the hand of man. |
| 24:15 |
So Jehovahthe Lord sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning evenuntil to the appointed time appointed; and thereseventy diedthousand men of the people from Dan even to BeerBeersheba sheba seventy thousand mendied. |
| 24:16 |
AndWhen when the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, Jehovahthe repentedLord himrelented offrom the evilcalamity, and said to the angel thatwho destroyed the people, It is enough;! nowNow stayrelax thyyour hand.! And the angel of Jehovahthe Lord was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. |
| 24:17 |
AndThen David spakespoke untoto Jehovahthe Lord when he saw the angel thatwho smotewas striking down the people, and said, LoBehold, it is I who have sinned, and it is I who have done perverselywrong; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let thyThy hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my fathers house. |
| 24:18 |
AndSo Gad came to David that day to David, and said untoto him, Go up, rearerect an altar untoto Jehovahthe inLord on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. |
| 24:19 |
And David went up according to the sayingword of Gad, just as Jehovahthe Lord had commanded. |
| 24:20 |
And Araunah looked forth, down and saw the king and his servants comingcrossing onover toward him:; and Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground before the king. |
| 24:21 |
AndThen Araunah said, WhereforeWhy ishas my Lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshing floor offrom theeyou, in order to build an altar untoto Jehovahthe Lord, that the plague may be stayedheld back from the people. |
| 24:22 |
And Araunah said untoto David, Let my Lord the king take and offer up what seemethis good untoin him:his beholdsight. Look, the oxen for the burnt offering, and the threshing instrumentssledges and the yokes of the oxen for the wood:. |
| 24:23 |
all thisEverything, O king, doth Araunah givegives untoto the king. And Araunah said untoto the king, JehovahMay thythe Lord your God accept theeyou. |
| 24:24 |
AndHowever, the king said untoto Araunah, Nay;No, but I will verilysurely buy it offrom theeyou atfor a price;, neitherfor I will Inot offer burnt offerings untoto Jehovahthe Lord my God which cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. |
| 24:25 |
And David built there an altar untoto Jehovahthe Lord, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. SoThus Jehovahthe Lord was entreatedmoved by entreaty for the land, and the plague was stayedheld back from Israel. |
