| 1:1 |
AndNow Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab. |
| 1:2 |
And Ahaziah fell down through the lattice in his upper chamber thatwhich was in Samaria, and wasbecame sick:ill. andSo he sent messengers, and said untoto them, Go, inquire of Baal zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I shall recover offrom this sickness. |
| 1:3 |
But the angel of Jehovahthe Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say untoto them, Is it because there is no God in Israel, that yeyou goare going to inquire of Baal zebub, the god of Ekron? |
| 1:4 |
Now therefore thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, ThouYou shaltshall not come down from the bed whitherwhere thouyou arthave gone up, but shaltyou shall surely die. AndThen Elijah departed. |
| 1:5 |
AndWhen the messengers returned untoto him, and he said untoto them, Why ishave ityou that ye are returned? |
| 1:6 |
And they said untoto him, ThereA man came up a man to meet us, and said untoto us, Go, turnreturn againto unto the king thatwho sent you, and say untoto him, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, Is it because there is no God in Israel, that thouyou sendestare sending to inquire of Baal zebub, the god of Ekron? thereforeTherefore thouyou shaltshall not come down from the bed whitherwhere thouyou arthave gone up, but shaltshall surely die. |
| 1:7 |
And he said untoto them, What mannerkind of man was he thatwho came up to meet you, and toldspoke you these words to you? |
| 1:8 |
And they answered him, He was a hairy man, and girt with a leather girdle ofbound leather about his loins. And he said, It is Elijah the Tishbite. |
| 1:9 |
Then the king sent untoto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him:, and, behold, he was sitting on the top of the hill. And he spakesaid untoto him, O man of God, the king hath saidsays, Come down. |
| 1:10 |
And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I beam a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume theeyou and thyyour fifty. AndThen therefire came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty. |
| 1:11 |
AndSo he again he sent untoto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said untoto him, O man of God, thus hathsays the king said, Come down quickly. |
| 1:12 |
And Elijah answered and said untoto them, If I beam a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume theeyou and thyyour fifty. AndThen the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty. |
| 1:13 |
AndSo he again he sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. AndWhen the third captain of fifty went up, andhe came and fellbowed down on his knees before Elijah, and besoughtbegged him, and said untoto him, O man of God, Iplease pray thee, let my life, and the lifelives of these fifty thy servants, of yours be precious in thyyour sight. |
| 1:14 |
Behold, therefire came fire down from heaven, and consumed the first two former captains of fifty with their fifties; but now let my life be precious in thyyour sight. |
| 1:15 |
And the angel of Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Elijah, Go down with him:; bedo not be afraid of him. AndSo he arose, and went down with him untoto the king. |
| 1:16 |
AndThen he said untoto him, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, ForasmuchBecause asyou thouhave hast sent messengers to inquire of Baal zebubBaalzebub, the god of Ekron, is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of hisHis word? therefore thouyou shaltshall not come down from the bed whitherwhere thouyou arthave gone up, but shaltshall surely die. |
| 1:17 |
So heAhaziah died according to the word of Jehovahthe Lord which Elijah had spoken. And because he had no son, Jehoram beganbecame toking reign in his steadplace in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah; because he had no son. |
| 1:18 |
Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, are they not written in the bookBook of the chroniclesChronicles of the kingsKings of Israel? |
| 2:1 |
And it came toabout pass, when Jehovahthe wouldLord was about to take up Elijah by a whirlwind intoto heaven, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal. |
| 2:2 |
And Elijah said untoto Elisha, TarryStay here please, Ifor praythe thee;Lord forhas Jehovah hath sent me as far as Beth elBethel. AndBut Elisha said, As Jehovahthe liveth,Lord lives and as thyyou soulyourself livethlive, I will not leave theeyou. So they went down to Beth elBethel. |
| 2:3 |
AndThen the sons of the prophets thatwho were at BethBethel el came forthout to Elisha, and said untoto him, KnowestDo thouyou know that Jehovahthe Lord will take away thyyour master from thyover headyou to daytoday? And he said, YeaYes, I know it; holdbe ye your peacestill. |
| 2:4 |
And Elijah said untoto him, Elisha, tarryplease stay here, Ifor praythe thee;Lord forhas Jehovah hath sent me to Jericho. AndBut he said, As Jehovahthe livethLord lives, and as thyyou soulyourself livethlive, I will not leave theeyou. So they came to Jericho. |
| 2:5 |
And the sons of the prophets thatwho were at Jericho cameapproached near to Elisha, and said untoto him, KnowestDo thouyou know that Jehovahthe Lord will take away thyyour master from thyover headyou to daytoday? And he answered, YeaYes, I know it; holdbe ye your peacestill. |
| 2:6 |
AndThen Elijah said untoto him, TarryPlease stay here, Ifor praythe thee;Lord forhas Jehovah hath sent me to the Jordan. And he said, As Jehovahthe livethLord lives, and as thyyou soulyourself livethlive, I will not leave theeyou. AndSo theythe two of them went on. |
| 2:7 |
AndNow fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood overopposite against them afarat off:a anddistance, theywhile the two of them stood by the Jordan. |
| 2:8 |
And Elijah took his mantle, and wrappedfolded it together, and smotestruck the waters, and they were divided hitherhere and thitherthere, so that theythe two wentof them crossed over on dry ground. |
| 2:9 |
AndNow it came toabout pass, when they werehad gonecrossed over, that Elijah said untoto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, you before I am taken from theeyou. And Elisha said, I pray theePlease, let a double portion of thyyour spirit be upon me. |
| 2:10 |
And he said, ThouYou hasthave asked a hard thing:. neverthelessNevertheless, if thouyou see me when I am taken from theeyou, it shall be so untofor theeyou; but if not, it shall not be so. |
| 2:11 |
AndThen it came toabout pass, as they stillwere wentgoing on,along and talkedtalking, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, which partedseparated themthe bothtwo asunder;of andthem. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind intoto heaven. |
| 2:12 |
And Elisha saw it, and hecried criedout, My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and theits horsemen thereof! And he saw him no more:. andThen he took hold of his own clothes, and renttore them in two pieces. |
| 2:13 |
He also took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and wentreturned back, and stood by the bank of the Jordan. |
| 2:14 |
And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smotestruck the waters, and said, Where is Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Elijah? andAnd when he also had smittenstruck the waters, they were divided hitherhere and thitherthere; and Elisha wentcrossed over. |
| 2:15 |
AndNow when the sons of the prophets thatwho were at Jericho overopposite against him saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah dothrests rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him. |
| 2:16 |
And they said untoto him, Behold now, there are with thyyour servants fifty strong men;, please let them go, weand praysearch thee, for andyour seek thy master,; lestperhaps the Spirit of Jehovahthe hathLord has taken him up, and cast him uponon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, YeYou shall not send. |
| 2:17 |
AndBut when they urged him tilluntil he was ashamed, he said, Send. They sent therefore fifty men; and they soughtsearched three days, but founddid not find him not. |
| 2:18 |
And they camereturned back to him, while he tarriedwas staying at Jericho; and he said untoto them, Did I not say untoto you, GoDo not go ? |
| 2:19 |
AndThen the men of the city said untoto Elisha, Behold, we pray theenow, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my Lord seeth:sees; but the water is bad, and the land miscarriethis unfruitful. |
| 2:20 |
And he said, Bring me a new crusejar, and put salt thereinin it. AndSo they brought it to him. |
| 2:21 |
And he went forthout untoto the spring of the waterswater, and castthrew salt therein,in it and said, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, I have healedpurified these waters; there shall not be from thencethere any more death or miscarryingunfruitfulness any longer. |
| 2:22 |
So the waters werehave healedbeen untopurified to this day, according to the word of Elisha which he spakespoke. |
| 2:23 |
AndThen he went up from thencethere untoto Beth elBethel; and as he was going up by the way, there came forth young lads came out offrom the city, and mocked him, and said untoto him, Go up, thouyou baldhead; go up, thouyou baldhead.! |
| 2:24 |
AndWhen he looked behind him and saw them, andhe cursed them in the name of Jehovahthe Lord. AndThen there came forth two shefemale bears came out of the wood, woods and taretore up forty and two lads of themtheir number. |
| 2:25 |
And he went from thencethere to mountMount Carmel, and from thencethere he returned to Samaria. |
| 3:1 |
Now Jehoram the son of Ahab beganbecame toking reign over Israel inat Samaria in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years. |
| 3:2 |
And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord, butthough not like his father, and like his mother; for he put away the sacred pillar of Baal thatwhich his father had made. |
| 3:3 |
Nevertheless, he cleavedclung untoto the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, wherewithwhich he made Israel to sin; he departeddid not therefromdepart from them. |
| 3:4 |
Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep master;breeder, and heused renderedto untopay the king of Israel the100,000 wool of a hundred thousand lambs, and ofthe awool hundredof thousand100,000 rams. |
| 3:5 |
But it came to passabout, when Ahab was deaddied, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel. |
| 3:6 |
And kingKing Jehoram went out of Samaria at that time, and mustered all Israel. |
| 3:7 |
AndThen he went and sent word to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab hathhas rebelled against me:. wiltWill thouyou go with me to fight against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up:; I am as thouyou artare, my people as thyyour people, my horses as thyyour horses. |
| 3:9 |
So the king of Israel went, andwith the king of Judah, and the king of Edom; and they made a circuit of seven days journey:, and there was no water for the host, army noror for the beastscattle that followed them. |
| 3:10 |
AndThen the king of Israel said, Alas! forFor Jehovahthe hathLord has called these three kings together to delivergive them into the hand of Moab. |
| 3:11 |
But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of Jehovahthe Lord here, that we may inquire of Jehovahthe Lord by him? And one of the king of Israels servants answered and said, Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who pouredused to pour water on the hands of Elijah. |
| 3:12 |
And Jehoshaphat said, The word of Jehovahthe Lord is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him. |
| 3:13 |
AndNow Elisha said untoto the king of Israel, What havedo I have to do with theeyou? getGo thee to the prophets of thyyour father, and to the prophets of thyyour mother. And the king of Israel said untoto him, Nay;No, for Jehovahthe hathLord has called these three kings together to delivergive them into the hand of Moab. |
| 3:14 |
And Elisha said, As Jehovahthe Lord of hosts livethlives, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look towardat thee, you nor see theeyou. |
| 3:15 |
But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to passabout, when the minstrel played, that the hand of Jehovahthe Lord came upon him. |
| 3:16 |
And he said, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, Make this valley full of trenches. |
| 3:17 |
For thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, YeYou shall not see wind, neithernor shall yeyou see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, andso yethat you shall drink, both yeyou and your cattle and your beasts. |
| 3:18 |
And this is but a lightslight thing in the sight of Jehovah:the heLord; willHe shall also delivergive the Moabites into your hand. |
| 3:19 |
AndThen yeyou shall smitestrike every fortified city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all fountainssprings of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones. |
| 3:20 |
And it camehappened to pass in the morning, about the time of offering the oblationsacrifice, that, behold, therewater came water by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water. |
| 3:21 |
Now when all the Moabites heard that the kings werehad come up to fight against them,. theyAnd gathered themselves together, all thatwho were able to put on armor, and upwardolder were summoned, and stood on the border. |
| 3:22 |
And they rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone uponon the water, and the Moabites saw the water overopposite against them as red as blood:. |
| 3:23 |
andThen they said, This is blood; the kings arehave surely destroyedfought together, and they have smittenslain eachone mananother. hisNow fellow: now therefore, Moab, to the spoil.! |
| 3:24 |
AndBut when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rosearose up and smotestruck the Moabites, so that they fled before them; and they went forward into the land, smitingslaughtering the Moabites. |
| 3:25 |
AndThus they beatdestroyed down the cities; and oneach everyone goodthrew piecea ofstone landon theyevery castpiece everyof mangood hisland stone, and filled it;. andSo they stopped all the fountainssprings of water, and felled all the good trees, until in Kir hareseth only they left theits stones thereof; howbeithowever, the slingers went about it, and smotestruck it. |
| 3:26 |
AndWhen when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too sorefierce for him, he took with him seven700 hundred men thatwho drew swordswords, to break through untoto the king of Edom; but they could not. |
| 3:27 |
Then he took his eldestoldest son thatwho shouldwas haveto reignedreign in his steadplace, and offered him foras a burnt offering uponon the wall. And there wascame great wrath against Israel:, and they departed from him, and returned to their own land. |
| 4:1 |
Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets untocried out to Elisha, saying,Your Thy servant my husband is dead;, and thouyou knowestknow that thyyour servant didfeared fearthe Jehovah:Lord; and the creditor ishas come to take unto him my two children to be bondmenhis slaves. |
| 4:2 |
And Elisha said untoto her, What shall I do for theeyou? tellTell me;, what hastdo thouyou have in the house? And she said, ThyYour handmaidmaidservant hathhas notnothing anything in the house, saveexcept a potjar of oil. |
| 4:3 |
Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroadat oflarge for yourself from all thyyour neighbors, even empty vessels; borrowdo not get a few. |
| 4:4 |
And thouyou shaltshall go in, and shut the door uponbehind theeyou and uponyour thy sons, and pour out into all thosethese vessels; and thouyou shaltshall set aside thatwhat which is full. |
| 4:5 |
So she went from him, and shut the door uponbehind her and upon her sons; they broughtwere bringing the vessels to her, and she poured out. |
| 4:6 |
And it came toabout pass, when the vessels were full, that she said untoto her son, Bring me yetanother a vessel. And he said untoto her, There is not aone vessel more. And the oil stayedstopped. |
| 4:7 |
Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thyyour debt, and liveyou thou and thyyour sons ofcan live on the rest. |
| 4:8 |
AndNow itthere fellcame on a day, thatwhen Elisha passed over to Shunem, where there was a greatprominent woman;, and she constrainedpersuaded him to eat breadfood. And so it was, that as oftoften as he passed by, he turned in thitherthere to eat breadfood. |
| 4:9 |
And she said untoto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is a holy man of God, thatpassing passeth by us continually. |
| 4:10 |
LetPlease, let us make, I pray thee, a little chamberwalled onupper thechamber wall; and let us set a bed for him there a bed, and a table, and a seat, chair and a candlestick:lampstand; and it shall be, when he comethcomes to us, that he shallcan turn in thitherthere. |
| 4:11 |
AndOne it fell on a day, that he came thither, there and he turned intoin to the upper chamber and lay thererested. |
| 4:12 |
AndThen he said to Gehazi his servant, Call this Shunammite. And when he had called her, she stood before him. |
| 4:13 |
And he said untoto him, Say now untoto her, Behold, thouyou hasthave been careful for us with all this care; what iscan toI bedo done for theeyou? wouldestWould thouyou be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the hostarmy? And she answered, I dwelllive among minemy own people. |
| 4:14 |
AndSo he said, What then is to be done for her? And Gehazi answered, VerilyTruly she hathhas no son, and her husband is old. |
| 4:15 |
And he said, Call her. AndWhen when he had called her, she stood in the doordoorway. |
| 4:16 |
AndThen he said, At this season, whennext theyear timeyou comethshall round, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, NayNo, my Lord, thouO man of God, do not lie untoto thyyour handmaidmaidservant. |
| 4:17 |
And the woman conceived, and barebore a son at that season, when the timenext came roundyear, as Elisha had said untoto her. |
| 4:18 |
AndWhen when the child was grown, itthe fellday oncame a day, that he went out to his father to the reapers. |
| 4:19 |
And he said untoto his father, My head, my head. And he said to his servant, Carry him to his mother. |
| 4:20 |
AndWhen when he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her kneeslap tilluntil noon, and then died. |
| 4:21 |
And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door uponbehind him, and went out. |
| 4:22 |
AndThen she called untoto her husband, and said, SendPlease send me, I pray thee, one of the servants, and one of the assesdonkeys, that I may run to the man of God, and come againreturn. |
| 4:23 |
And he said, WhereforeWhy wiltwill thouyou go to him to daytoday? itIt is neither new moon nor sabbath. And she said, It shallwill be well. |
| 4:24 |
Then she saddled ana ass, donkey and said to her servant, Drive, and go forward; slackendo me not slow down the riding, pace exceptfor me unless I bidtell theeyou. |
| 4:25 |
So she went, and came untoto the man of God to mountMount Carmel. And it came toabout pass, when the man of God saw her afarat offa distance, that he said to Gehazi his servant, Behold, yonder is the Shunammite:. |
| 4:26 |
Please run, I pray thee, now to meet her, and say untoto her, Is it well with theeyou? isIs it well with thyyour husband? isIs it well with the child? And she answered, It is well. |
| 4:27 |
AndWhen when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught hold of his feet. And Gehazi came near to thrustpush her away; but the man of God said, Let her alone:, for her soul is vexedtroubled within her; and Jehovahthe hathLord hidhas hidden it from me, and hathhas not told me. |
| 4:28 |
Then she said, Did I desireask for a son offrom my Lord? didDid I not say, Do not deceive me? |
| 4:29 |
Then he said to Gehazi, Gird up thyyour loins, and take my staff in thyyour hand, and go thyyour way:; if thouyou meet any man, do not salute him, not; and if anyanyone salutesalutes theeyou, do not answer him; not again: and lay my staff uponon the lads face of the child. |
| 4:30 |
And the mother of the childlad said, As Jehovahthe liveth,Lord lives and as thyyou soulyourself livethlive, I will not leave theeyou. And he arose, and followed her. |
| 4:31 |
AndThen Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff uponon the lads face, of the child; but there was neither voice, sound nor hearingresponse. WhereforeSo he returned to meet him, and told him, saying, The childlad ishas not awakedawakened. |
| 4:32 |
AndWhen when Elisha wascame come into the house, behold, the childlad was dead, and laid uponon his bed. |
| 4:33 |
HeSo wenthe inentered therefore, and shut the door uponbehind them twainboth, and prayed untoto Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 4:34 |
And he went up, and lay uponon the child, and put his mouth uponon his mouth, and his eyes uponon his eyes, and his hands uponon his hands:, and he stretched himself uponon him; and the flesh of the child waxedbecame warm. |
| 4:35 |
Then he returned, and walked in the house once toback and fro;forth, and went up, and stretched himself uponon him:; and the childlad sneezed seven times, and the childlad opened his eyes. |
| 4:36 |
And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And when she wascame come in untoto him, he said, Take up thyyour son. |
| 4:37 |
Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground;, and she took up her son, and went out. |
| 4:38 |
AndWhen Elisha camereturned again to Gilgal., And there was a dearthfamine in the land;. andAs the sons of the prophets were sitting before him;, and he said untoto his servant, SetPut on the greatlarge pot, and boil pottagestew for the sons of the prophets. |
| 4:39 |
AndThen one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered thereoffrom wildit gourds his lap full of wild gourds, and came and shredsliced them into the pot of pottage;stew, for they knewdid themnot notknow what they were. |
| 4:40 |
So they poured it out for the men to eat. And it came toabout pass, as they were eating of the pottagestew, that they cried out, and said, O man of God, there is death in the pot. And they couldwere notunable to eat thereof. |
| 4:41 |
But he said, ThenNow bring meal. And he castthrew it into the pot;, and he said, Pour it out for the people, that they may eat. AndThen there was no harm in the pot. |
| 4:42 |
AndNow there came a man came from Baal shalishah, and brought the man of God bread of the first fruits, twenty loaves of barley, and fresh ears of grain in his sack. And he said, Give untothem to the people, that they may eat. |
| 4:43 |
And his servantattendant said, What, shouldshall I set this before a hundred men? But he said, Give them to the people, that they may eat;, for thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, They shall eat, and shallhave leavesome thereofleft over. |
| 4:44 |
So he set it before them, and they didate eat, and had some left thereofover, according to the word of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 5:1 |
Now Naaman, captain of the hostarmy of the king of SyriaAram, was a great man with his master, and honorablehighly respected, because by him Jehovahthe Lord had given victory untoto Syria:Aram. heThe man was also a mightyvaliant man of valorwarrior, but he was a leper. |
| 5:2 |
AndNow the SyriansArameans had gone out in bands, and had broughttaken away captive outa oflittle girl from the land of Israel a little maiden; and she waited on Naamans wife. |
| 5:3 |
And she said untoto her mistress, WouldI wish that my Lordmaster were with the prophet thatwho is in Samaria! thenThen he would hecure recover him of his leprosy. |
| 5:4 |
And oneNaaman went in, and told his Lordmaster, saying, Thus and thus saidspoke the maidengirl thatwho is offrom the land of Israel. |
| 5:5 |
AndThen the king of SyriaAram said, Go now, and I will send a letter untoto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand piecesshekels of gold, and ten changes of raimentclothes. |
| 5:6 |
And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, And now whenas this letter iscomes cometo unto theeyou, behold, I have sent Naaman my servant to theeyou, that thouyou mayestmay recovercure him of his leprosy. |
| 5:7 |
And it came toabout pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he renttore his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man dothis sendsending untoword to me to recovercure a man of his leprosy? butBut consider, I pray younow, and see how he seekethis seeking a quarrel against me. |
| 5:8 |
And it washappened so, when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had renttorn his clothes, that he sent word to the king, saying, WhereforeWhy hasthave thouyou renttorn thyyour clothes? Now let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel. |
| 5:9 |
So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariots, and stood at the doordoorway of the house of Elisha. |
| 5:10 |
And Elisha sent a messenger untoto him, saying, Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and thyyour flesh shall comebe againrestored to thee, you and thouyou shaltshall be clean. |
| 5:11 |
But Naaman was wroth, furious and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of Jehovahthe Lord his God, and wave his hand over the place, and recovercure the leper. |
| 5:12 |
Are not Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? mayCould I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage. |
| 5:13 |
AndThen his servants came near, and spakespoke untoto him, and said, My father, ifhad the prophet hadtold bidyou theeto do some great thing, wouldestwould thouyou not have done it? howHow much rathermore then, when he saithsays to theeyou, Wash, and be clean ? |
| 5:14 |
ThenSo he went he down, and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the sayingword of the man of God; and his flesh camewas againrestored like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean. |
| 5:15 |
AndWhen he returned to the man of God, hewith and all his company, and came, and stood before him;, and he said, Behold now, I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel:; nowso therefore, please I pray thee, take a present offrom thyyour servant now. |
| 5:16 |
But he said, As Jehovahthe livethLord lives, before whom I stand, I will receivetake nonenothing. And he urged him to take it;, but he refused. |
| 5:17 |
And Naaman said, If not, yet, please Ilet prayyour thee, servant letat thereleast be given to thy servant two mules burdenload of earth; for thyyour servant will henceforthno more offer neither burnt offering nor will he sacrifice untoto other gods, but untoto Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 5:18 |
In this thingmatter Jehovahmay the Lord pardon thyyour servant: when my master goethgoes into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leanethleans on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, when I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, Jehovahthe Lord pardon thyyour servant in this thingmatter. |
| 5:19 |
And he said untoto him, Go in peace. So he departed from him asome little waydistance. |
| 5:20 |
But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, saidthought, Behold, my master hathhas spared this Naaman the SyrianAramean, inby not receiving atfrom his hands thatwhat which he brought:. asAs Jehovahthe livethLord lives, I will run after him, and take somewhatsomething offrom him. |
| 5:21 |
So Gehazi followedpursued after Naaman. AndWhen when Naaman saw one running after him, he alightedcame down from the chariot to meet him, and said, Is all well? |
| 5:22 |
And he said, All is well. My master hathhas sent me, saying, Behold, evenjust now theretwo areyoung men of the sons of the prophets have come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. twoPlease young men of the sons of the prophets; give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of raimentclothes. |
| 5:23 |
And Naaman said, Be pleased to take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of raimentclothes, and laidgave them uponto two of his servants; and they barecarried them before him. |
| 5:24 |
AndWhen when he came to the hill, he took them from their hand, and bestoweddeposited them in the house;, and he letsent the men goaway, and they departed. |
| 5:25 |
But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said untoto him, WhenceWhere comesthave thouyou been, Gehazi? And he said, ThyYour servant went no whithernowhere. |
| 5:26 |
AndThen he said untoto him, WentDid not my heart go with theeyou, when the man turned from his chariot to meet theeyou? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, clothes and oliveyardsolive groves and vineyards, and sheep and oxen, and menmale servants and maidfemale servants? |
| 5:27 |
TheTherefore, the leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave untoto thee, you and untoto thyyour seeddescendants for everforever. AndSo he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow. |
| 6:1 |
AndNow the sons of the prophets said untoto Elisha, Behold now, the place before you where we dwellare beforeliving thee is too straitlimited for us. |
| 6:2 |
LetPlease let us go, weto pray thee, unto the Jordan, and each of us take thencefrom everythere man a beam, and let us make us a place there, for ourselves where we may dwelllive. AndSo he answeredsaid, Go ye. |
| 6:3 |
AndThen one said, BePlease pleased,be Iwilling pray thee, to go with thyyour servants. And he answered, I willshall go. |
| 6:4 |
So he went with them.; Andand when they came to the Jordan, they cut down woodtrees. |
| 6:5 |
But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water; and he cried, out and said, Alas, my master! forFor it was borrowed. |
| 6:6 |
AndThen the man of God said, Where felldid it fall? And when he showed him the place., And he cut downoff a stick, and castthrew it in thitherthere, and made the iron to swimfloat. |
| 6:7 |
And he said, Take it up tofor theeyourself. So he put out his hand, and took it. |
| 6:8 |
Now the king of SyriaAram was warring against Israel; and he tookcounseled counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp. |
| 6:9 |
And the man of God sent untoword to the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thouyou passdo not suchpass athis place;, for thither the SyriansArameans are coming down there. |
| 6:10 |
And the king of Israel sent to the place about which the man of God had told him; andthus he warned him, of;so andthat he savedguarded himself there, notmore than once noror twice. |
| 6:11 |
AndNow the heart of the king of SyriaAram was soreenraged troubledover for this thing; and he called his servants, and said untoto them, Will yeyou nottell show me which of us is for the king of Israel? |
| 6:12 |
And one of his servants said, NayNo, my Lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet thatwho is in Israel, tellethtells the king of Israel the words that thouyou speakestspeak in thyyour bedchamberbedroom. |
| 6:13 |
AndSo he said, Go and see where he is, that I may send and fetchtake him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan. |
| 6:14 |
ThereforeAnd sent he thithersent horses, and chariots, and a great host:army there, and they came by night, and compassedsurrounded the city about. |
| 6:15 |
AndNow when the servantattendant of the man of God washad risen early, and gone forthout, behold, aan hostarmy with horses and chariots was roundcircling about the city. And his servant said untoto him, Alas, my master! howWhat shall we do? |
| 6:16 |
AndSo he answered, FearDo not; fear, for theythose thatwho are with us are more than theythose thatwho are with them. |
| 6:17 |
AndThen Elisha prayed, and said, JehovahO Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And Jehovah opened the eyesLord ofopened the youngservants man;eyes, and he saw:; and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire roundall aboutaround Elisha. |
| 6:18 |
And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed untoto Jehovah, the Lord and said, SmiteStrike this people with blindness, I pray thee, with blindness. AndSo heHe smotestruck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha. |
| 6:19 |
AndThen Elisha said untoto them, This is not the way, neithernor is this the city:; follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom yeyou seek. And he ledbrought them to Samaria. |
| 6:20 |
And it came toabout pass, when they werehad come into Samaria, that Elisha said, JehovahO Lord, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. AndSo Jehovahthe Lord opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria. |
| 6:21 |
AndThen the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, said to Elisha, My father, shall I smitekill them? shallShall I smitekill them? |
| 6:22 |
And he answered, ThouYou shaltshall not smitekill them:. wouldestWould thouyou smitekill those whomyou thouhave hast taken captive with thyyour sword and with thyyour bow? setSet bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master. |
| 6:23 |
AndSo he prepared a great provisionfeast for them; and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. And the marauding bands of SyriaArameans camedid nonot morecome again into the land of Israel. |
| 6:24 |
AndNow it came toabout pass after this, that Ben hadad king of SyriaAram gathered all his host, army and went up, and besieged Samaria. |
| 6:25 |
And there was a great famine in Samaria:; and, behold, they besieged it, until ana asssdonkeys head was sold for fourscoreeighty piecesshekels of silver, and thea fourth part of a kab of doves dung for five piecesshekels of silver. |
| 6:26 |
And as the king of Israel was passing by uponon the wall, therea woman cried aout womanto unto him, saying, Help, my Lord, O king.! |
| 6:27 |
And he said, If Jehovahthe doLord does not help theeyou, whencefrom where shall I help theeyou? outFrom of the threshing floor, or outfrom of the winepresswine press? |
| 6:28 |
And the king said untoto her, What ailethis theethe matter with you? And she answered, This woman said untoto me, Give thyyour son, that we may eat him to daytoday, and we will eat my son to morrowtomorrow. |
| 6:29 |
So we boiled my son, and didate eat him:; and I said untoto her on the next day, Give thyyour son, that we may eat him; andbut she hathhas hidhidden her son. |
| 6:30 |
And it came toabout pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he renttore his clothes now he was passing by uponon the wall; and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth withinbeneath uponon his fleshbody. |
| 6:31 |
Then he said, May God do so to me, and more also, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shallremains stand on him this daytoday. |
| 6:32 |
ButNow Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him;. andAnd the king sent a man from beforehis him:presence; but erebefore the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, SeeDo yeyou see how this son of a murderer hathhas sent to take away my head? lookLook, when the messenger comethcomes, shut the door, and hold the door fastshut against him:. isIs not the sound of his masters feet behind him? |
| 6:33 |
And while he was yetstill talking with them, behold, the messenger came down untoto him:, and he said, Behold, this evil is offrom Jehovahthe Lord; why should I wait for Jehovahthe Lord any longer? |
| 7:1 |
AndThen Elisha said, HearListen yeto the word of Jehovah:the Lord; thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, ToTomorrow morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria. |
| 7:2 |
ThenAnd the captainroyal officer on whose hand the king leanedwas leaning answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if Jehovahthe Lord should make windows in heaven, mightcould this thing be? AndThen he said, Behold, thouyou shaltshall see it with thineyour own eyes, but shaltyou shall not eat thereofof it. |
| 7:3 |
Now there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate:; and they said to one to another, Why sitdo we sit here until we die? |
| 7:4 |
If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there; and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fallgo untoover to the hostcamp of the Syrians:Arameans. ifIf they savespare us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die. |
| 7:5 |
And they rosearose upat in the twilight, to go untoto the camp of the SyriansArameans; and when they werecame come to the outermostoutskirts part of the camp of the SyriansArameans, behold, there was no manone there. |
| 7:6 |
For the Lord had madecaused the hostarmy of the SyriansArameans to hear a noisesound of chariots, and a noisesound of horses, even the noisesound of a great host:army, andso that they said to one to another, LoBehold, the king of Israel hathhas hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us. |
| 7:7 |
WhereforeTherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their assesdonkeys, even the camp just as it was, and fled for their life. |
| 7:8 |
AndWhen when these lepers came to the outermostoutskirts part of the camp, they wententered into one tent, and didate eat and drinkdrank, and carried thencefrom there silver, and gold, and raimentclothes, and went and hid itthem; and they camereturned back, and entered into another tent, and carried thencefrom there also, and went and hid itthem. |
| 7:9 |
Then they said to one to another, We doare not well;doing thisright. This day is a day of good tidingsnews, andbut we holdare ourkeeping peace:silent; if we tarrywait tilluntil the morning light, punishment will overtake us;. nowNow therefore come, let us go and tell the kings household. |
| 7:10 |
So they came and called untoto the portergatekeepers of the city;, and they told them, saying, We came to the camp of the SyriansArameans, and, behold, there was no manone there, neithernor the voice of man, butonly the horses tied, and the assesdonkeys tied, and the tents just as they were. |
| 7:11 |
And hethe gatekeepers called, the porters; and they told it towithin the kings household within. |
| 7:12 |
AndThen the king arose in the night, and said untoto his servants, I will now showtell you what the SyriansArameans have done to us. They know that we are hungry; therefore are they have gone outfrom of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall takecapture them alive, and get into the city. |
| 7:13 |
And one of his servants answered and said, LetPlease, let some men take, I pray thee, five of the horses thatwhich remain, which are left in the city. beholdBehold, they arewill asbe in any case like all the multitude of Israel thatwho are left in it; behold, they arewill asbe in any case like all the multitude of Israel thatwho arehave consumed;already andperished, so let us send and see. |
| 7:14 |
They took therefore two chariots with horses;, and the king sent after the hostarmy of the SyriansArameans, saying, Go and see. |
| 7:15 |
And they went after them untoto the Jordan:, and, lobehold, all the way was full of garmentsclothes and vesselsequipment, which the SyriansArameans had castthrown away in their haste. AndThen the messengers returned, and told the king. |
| 7:16 |
AndSo the people went out, and plundered the camp of the SyriansArameans. SoThen a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 7:17 |
AndNow the king appointed the captainroyal officer on whose hand he leaned to have the charge of the gate:; andbut the people trodtrampled uponon him inat the gate, and he died just as the man of God had said, who spakespoke when the king came down to him. |
| 7:18 |
And it came toabout pass, just as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, Two measures of barley for a shekel, and a measure of fine flour for a shekel, shall be tosold morrowtomorrow about this time inat the gate of Samaria;. |
| 7:19 |
andThen thatthe captainroyal officer answered the man of God, and said, Now, behold, if Jehovahthe Lord should make windows in heaven, mightcould such a thing be? andAnd he said, Behold, thouyou shaltshall see it with thineyour own eyes, but shaltyou shall not eat thereof:of it. |
| 7:20 |
And so it camehappened to pass even so unto him;, for the people trodtrampled uponon him inat the gate, and he died. |
| 8:1 |
Now Elisha hadspoke spokento unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thouwith andyour thy household, and sojourn wheresoeverwherever thouyou canstcan sojourn:; for Jehovahthe hathLord has called for a famine;, and it shall alsoeven come uponon the land for seven years. |
| 8:2 |
AndSo the woman arose, and did according to the word of the man of God;, and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years. |
| 8:3 |
And it came toabout pass at the end of seven years end, that the woman returned outfrom of the land of the Philistines:; and she went forthout to cryappeal untoto the king for her house and for her landfield. |
| 8:4 |
Now the king was talking with Gehazi, the servant of the man of God, saying, TellPlease me,relate Ito prayme thee, all the great things that Elisha hathhas done. |
| 8:5 |
And it came to passabout, as he was tellingrelating to the king how he had restored to life himthe thatone who was dead, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, criedappealed to the king for her house and for her landfield. And Gehazi said, My Lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life. |
| 8:6 |
AndWhen when the king asked the woman, she toldrelated it to him. So the king appointed untofor her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruitsproduce of the field sincefrom the day that she left the land, even until now. |
| 8:7 |
AndThen Elisha came to Damascus;. andNow Ben hadad the king of SyriaAram was sick;, and it was told him, saying, The man of God ishas come hitherhere. |
| 8:8 |
And the king said untoto Hazael, Take a presentgift in thyyour hand, and go, to meet the man of God, and inquire of Jehovahthe Lord by him, saying, ShallWill I recover offrom this sickness? |
| 8:9 |
So Hazael went to meet him, and took a presentgift within himhis hand, even every kind of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels burden, loads; and he came and stood before him, and said, ThyYour son Ben hadad king of SyriaAram hathhas sent me to theeyou, saying, ShallWill I recover offrom this sickness? |
| 8:10 |
AndThen Elisha said untoto him, Go, say untoto him, ThouYou shaltshall surely recover;, howbeitbut Jehovahthe hathLord showedhas shown me that he shallwill surelycertainly die. |
| 8:11 |
And he settledfixed his countenancegaze stedfastlysteadily uponon him, until he was ashamed:, and the man of God wept. |
| 8:12 |
And Hazael said, Why weepethdoes my Lord weep? AndThen he answered, Because I know the evil that thouyou wiltwill do untoto the childrensons of Israel: their strongholds wiltyou thouwill set on fire, and their young men wiltyou thouwill slaykill with the sword, and wilttheir little ones you will dash in pieces their little ones, and rip up their women with child you will rip up. |
| 8:13 |
AndThen Hazael said, But what is thyyour servant, who is but a dog, that he should do this great thing? And Elisha answered, JehovahThe hathLord showedhas shown me that thouyou shaltwill be king over SyriaAram. |
| 8:14 |
ThenSo he departed from Elisha, and camereturned to his master;, who said to him, What saiddid Elisha say to theeyou? And he answered, He told me that thouyou wouldestwould surely recover. |
| 8:15 |
And it came toabout pass on the morrow, that he took the coverlet, cover and dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died:. andAnd Hazael reignedbecame king in his steadplace. |
| 8:16 |
AndNow in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being then the king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah beganbecame to reignking. |
| 8:17 |
ThirtyHe andwas thirty two years old was he when he beganbecame toking, reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. |
| 8:18 |
And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as did the house of Ahab: forhad hedone, hadfor the daughter of Ahab tobecame his wife; and he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 8:19 |
HowbeitHowever, Jehovahthe wouldLord was not willing to destroy Judah, for the sake of David hisHis servants sakeservant, assince heHe had promised him to give unto him a lamp forto him through his childrensons alwayalways. |
| 8:21 |
Then Joram passedcrossed over to Zair, and all his chariots with him:. andAnd it came about that he rosearose up by night, and smotestruck the Edomites thatwho compassedhad surrounded him about, and the captains of the chariots; andbut thehis peoplearmy fled to their tents. |
| 8:22 |
So Edom revolted fromagainst under the hand of Judah untoto this day. Then did Libnah revoltrevolted at the same time. |
| 8:23 |
And the rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, are they not written in the bookBook of the chroniclesChronicles of the kingsKings of Judah? |
| 8:24 |
AndSo Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David; and Ahaziah his son reignedbecame king in his steadplace. |
| 8:25 |
In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, did Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah beginbegan to reign. |
| 8:26 |
TwoAhaziah andwas twenty two years old was Ahaziah when he beganbecame toking, reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mothers name was Athaliah the daughtergranddaughter of Omri king of Israel. |
| 8:27 |
And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord, aslike did the house of Ahab; forhad done, because he was thea son in law of the house of Ahab. |
| 8:28 |
AndThen he went with Joram the son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of SyriaAram at Ramoth gilead:, and the SyriansArameans wounded Joram. |
| 8:29 |
AndSo kingKing Joram returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the SyriansArameans had giveninflicted on him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of SyriaAram. AndThen Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick. |
| 9:1 |
AndNow Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets, and said untoto him, Gird up thyyour loins, and take this vialflask of oil in thyyour hand, and go to Ramoth gilead. |
| 9:2 |
AndWhen whenyou thouarrive comest thitherthere, looksearch out there Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in, and makebid him arise up from among his brethrenbrothers, and carrybring him to an inner chamberroom. |
| 9:3 |
Then take the vialflask of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, I have anointed theeyou king over Israel. Then open the door, and flee, and tarrydo not wait. |
| 9:4 |
So the young man, even the youngservant manof the prophet, went to Ramoth gilead. |
| 9:5 |
AndWhen when he came, behold, the captains of the hostarmy were sitting;, and he said, I have ana errandword tofor theeyou, O captain. And Jehu said, UntoFor which one of us all? And he said, ToFor theeyou, O captain. |
| 9:6 |
And he arose, and went into the house;, and he poured the oil on his head, and said untoto him, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel, I have anointed theeyou king over the people of Jehovahthe Lord, even over Israel. |
| 9:7 |
And thouyou shaltshall smitestrike the house of Ahab thyyour master, that I may avenge the blood of myMy servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of Jehovahthe Lord, at the hand of Jezebel. |
| 9:8 |
For the whole house of Ahab shall perish;, and I will cut off from Ahab every manmale child, person andboth himbond that is shut up and himfree that is left at large in Israel. |
| 9:10 |
And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the portionterritory of Jezreel, and therenone shall be none to bury her. AndThen he opened the door, and fled. |
| 9:11 |
ThenNow Jehu came forthout to the servants of his Lord:master, and one said untoto him, Is all well? whereforeWhy camedid this mad fellow come to theeyou? And he said untoto them, YeYou know very well the man and what his talk was. |
| 9:12 |
And they said, It is false;a lie, tell us now. And he said, Thus and thus spake he said to me, saying, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, I have anointed theeyou king over Israel. |
| 9:13 |
Then they hasted, hurried and tookeach every man took his garment, and putplaced it under him on the topbare of the stairssteps, and blew the trumpet, saying, Jehu is king.! |
| 9:14 |
So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi conspired against Joram. Now Joram with all Israel was keepingdefending Ramoth gilead, heagainst and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Syria;Aram, |
| 9:15 |
but kingKing Joram washad returned to Jezreel to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the SyriansArameans had giveninflicted on him, when he fought with Hazael king of SyriaAram. AndSo Jehu said, If this beis your mind, then let noneno one escape andor goleave forth out of the city, to go to tell it in Jezreel. |
| 9:16 |
SoThen Jehu rode in a chariot, and went to Jezreel;, for Joram laywas lying there. And Ahaziah king of Judah washad come down to see Joram. |
| 9:17 |
Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel, and he spiedsaw the company of Jehu as he came, and said, I see a company. And Joram said, Take a horseman, and send him to meet them, and let him say, Is it peace? |
| 9:18 |
So therea horseman went one on horseback to meet him, and said, Thus saithsays the king, Is it peace? And Jehu said, What hasthave thouyou to do with peace? turnTurn thee behind me. And the watchman toldreported, saying, The messenger came to them, but he comethdid not backreturn. |
| 9:19 |
Then he sent out a second on horsebackhorseman, who came to them, and said, Thus saithsays the king, Is it peace? And Jehu answered, What hasthave thouyou to do with peace? turnTurn thee behind me. |
| 9:20 |
And the watchman toldreported, saying, He came even untoto them, and comethhe did not back:return; and the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi;, for he drivethdrives furiously. |
| 9:21 |
AndThen Joram said, MakeGet ready. And they made ready his chariot ready. And Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot, and they went out to meet Jehu, and found him in the portionproperty of Naboth the Jezreelite. |
| 9:22 |
And it came to passabout, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredomsharlotries of thyyour mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many? |
| 9:23 |
AndSo Joram turnedreined hisabout hands, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, There is treachery, O Ahaziah.! |
| 9:24 |
And Jehu drew his bow with his full strength, and smoteshot Joram between his arms; and the arrow went outthrough at his heart, and he sunksank down in his chariot. |
| 9:25 |
Then Jehu said Jehu to Bidkar his captainofficer, Take him up, and cast him ininto the portionproperty of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite;, for I remember howwhen that, you whenand I andwere thouriding rode together after Ahab his father, Jehovahthat the Lord laid this burdenoracle uponagainst him: |
| 9:26 |
Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons, saithsays Jehovah;the Lord, and I will requiterepay theeyou in this platproperty, saithsays Jehovahthe Lord. Now thereforethen, take and cast him into the plat of groundproperty, according to the word of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 9:27 |
ButWhen when Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden house. And Jehu followedpursued after him, and said, SmiteShoot him alsotoo, in the chariot:. andSo they smoteshot him at the ascent of Gur, which is byat Ibleam. AndBut he fled to Megiddo, and died there. |
| 9:28 |
AndThen his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his sepulchregrave with his fathers in the city of David. |
| 9:29 |
AndNow in the eleventh year of Joram, the son of Ahab, began Ahaziah tobecame reignking over Judah. |
| 9:30 |
AndWhen when Jehu wascame come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it;, and she painted her eyes, and attiredadorned her head, and looked out at the window. |
| 9:31 |
And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, Is it peacewell, thou Zimri, thyyour masters murderer? |
| 9:32 |
AndThen he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? whoWho? And theretwo lookedor outthree toofficials himlooked twodown orat three eunuchshim. |
| 9:33 |
And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down;, and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses:, and he trodtrampled her under foot. |
| 9:34 |
AndWhen when he wascame come in, he didate eat and drinkdrank; and he said, See now to this cursed woman, and bury her;, for she is a kings daughter. |
| 9:35 |
And they went to bury her;, but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands. |
| 9:36 |
WhereforeTherefore they camereturned back, and told him. And he said, This is the word of Jehovahthe Lord, which heHe spakespoke by hisHis servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portionproperty of Jezreel shall the dogs shall eat the flesh of Jezebel; |
| 9:37 |
and the bodycorpse of Jezebel shall be as dung uponon the face of the field in the portionproperty of Jezreel, so that they shallcannot not say, This is Jezebel. |
| 10:1 |
Now Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. And Jehu wrote letters, and sent them to Samaria, untoto the rulers of Jezreel, even the elders, and untoto themthe thatguardians broughtof up the sonschildren of Ahab, saying, |
| 10:2 |
And now, aswhen soon as this letter comethcomes to you, seeingsince your masters sons are with you, andas therewell areas withthe you chariots and horses, and a fortified city also, and armor;the weapons, |
| 10:3 |
lookselect ye out the best and meetestfittest of your masters sons, and set him on his fathers throne, and fight for your masters house. |
| 10:4 |
But they werefeared exceedinglygreatly afraid, and said, Behold, the two kings stooddid not stand before him:; how then shallcan we stand? |
| 10:5 |
And hethe thatone who was over the household, and he thatwho was over the city, the elders also, and theythe thatguardians broughtof up the children, sent word to Jehu, saying, We are thyyour servants, and will do all that thouyou shaltsay bidto us; we will do, we will not make any man king:; do thouwhat that which is good in thineyour eyessight. |
| 10:6 |
Then he wrote a letter theto them a second time to them, saying, If yeyou beare on my side, and ifyou ye will hearkenlisten untoto my voice, take ye the heads of the men, your masters sons, and come to me toat Jezreel bytomorrow toabout morrow this time. Now the kings sons, being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, who broughtwere rearing them up. |
| 10:7 |
And it came toabout pass, when the letter came to them, that they took the kings sons, and slewslaughtered them, even seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets, and sent them untoto him toat Jezreel. |
| 10:8 |
AndWhen therethe messenger came a messenger, and told him, saying, They have brought the heads of the kings sons., And he said, LayPut ye them in two heaps at the entrance of the gate until the morning. |
| 10:9 |
AndNow it came toabout pass in the morning, that he went out, and stood, and said to all the people, YeYou are righteous:innocent; behold, I conspired against my master, and slewkilled him;, but who smotekilled all these? |
| 10:10 |
Know nowthen that there shall fall untoto the earth nothing of the word of Jehovahthe Lord, which Jehovahthe spakeLord spoke concerning the house of Ahab:, for Jehovahthe hathLord has done thatwhat whichHe hespoke spakethrough byHis his servant Elijah. |
| 10:11 |
So Jehu smotekilled all thatwho remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men, and his familiaracquaintances friends, and his priests, until he left him nonewithout remaininga survivor. |
| 10:12 |
AndThen he arose and departed, and went to Samaria. AndOn asthe way while he was at theBeth shearingeked house of the shepherds in the way, |
| 10:13 |
Jehu met with the brethrenrelatives of Ahaziah king of Judah, and said, Who are yeyou? And they answered, We are the brethrenrelatives of Ahaziah:; and we gohave come down to salutegreet the childrensons of the king and the childrensons of the queen mother. |
| 10:14 |
And he said, Take them alive. AndSo they took them alive, and slewkilled them at the pit of theBeth shearing houseeked, evenfortytwo twomen; and fortyhe men; neither left henone any of them. |
| 10:15 |
AndNow when he washad departed thencefrom there, he lightedmet on Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him; and he salutedgreeted him, and said to him, Is thyyour heart right, as my heart is with thyyour heart? And Jehonadab answered, It is. Jehu said, If it beis, give me thyyour hand. And he gave him his hand;, and he took him up to him into the chariot. |
| 10:16 |
And he said, Come with me, and see my zeal for Jehovahthe Lord. So theyhe made him ride in his chariot. |
| 10:17 |
And when he came to Samaria, he smotekilled all thatwho remained untoto Ahab in Samaria, tilluntil he had destroyed him, according to the word of Jehovahthe Lord, which heHe spakespoke to Elijah. |
| 10:18 |
AndThen Jehu gathered all the people together, and said untoto them, Ahab served Baal a little; but Jehu will serve him much. |
| 10:19 |
NowAnd thereforenow, callsummon unto me all the prophets of Baal, all his worshippers, worshipers and all his priests; let noneno one be wanting:missing, for I have a great sacrifice tofor do to Baal; whosoeverwhoever shallis bemissing wanting, he shall not live. But Jehu did it in subtletycunning, toin theorder intent that he might destroy the worshippersworshipers of Baal. |
| 10:21 |
AndThen Jehu sent throughthroughout all Israel: and all the worshippersworshipers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left thatwho camedid not come. And when they camewent into the house of Baal;, and the house of Baal was filled from one end to anotherthe other. |
| 10:22 |
And he said untoto himthe thatone who was overin charge of the vestrywardrobe, Bring forthout vestmentsgarments for all the worshippersworshipers of Baal. AndSo he brought themout forthgarments vestmentsfor them. |
| 10:23 |
And Jehu went, andinto Jehonadab the sonhouse of Rechab,Baal intowith Jehonadab the houseson of BaalRechab; and he said untoto the worshippersworshipers of Baal, Search, and looksee that there may be here with you none of the servants of Jehovahthe Lord, but only the worshippersworshipers of Baal only. |
| 10:24 |
AndThen they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had appointedstationed himfor fourscorehimself eighty men withoutoutside, and he had said, IfThe one who permits any of the men whom I bring into your hands to escape, heshall thatgive lettethup him go, his life shallin be for the life of himexchange. |
| 10:25 |
AndThen it came to passabout, as soon as he had madefinished an end of offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captainsroyal officers, Go in, andkill slay them; let none come forthout. And they smotekilled them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the captainsroyal castofficers threw them out, and went to the cityinner room of the house of Baal. |
| 10:26 |
And they brought forthout the sacred pillars thatof were in the house of Baal, and burned them. |
| 10:27 |
AndThey theyalso brakebroke down the sacred pillar of Baal, and brakebroke down the house of Baal, and made it a draughtlatrine house,to unto this day. |
| 10:28 |
Thus Jehu destroyederadicated Baal out of Israel. |
| 10:29 |
HowbeitHowever, fromas for the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, wherewithwhich he made Israel to sin, from these Jehu departeddid not from after themdepart, toeven wit, the golden calves that were inat BethBethel el, and that were inat Dan. |
| 10:30 |
And Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Jehu, Because thouyou hasthave done well in executing thatwhat which is right in mineMy eyes, and hasthave done untoto the house of Ahab according to all that was in myMy heart, thyyour sons of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel. |
| 10:31 |
But Jehu tookwas nonot heedcareful to walk in the law of Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel, with all his heart:; he departeddid not depart from the sins of Jeroboam, wherewithwhich he made Israel to sin. |
| 10:32 |
In those days Jehovahthe Lord began to cut off portions from Israel:; and Hazael smotedefeated them inthroughout all the bordersterritory of Israel;: |
| 10:33 |
from the Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the valley of the Arnon, even Gilead and Bashan. |
| 10:34 |
Now the rest of the acts of Jehu, and all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the bookBook of the chroniclesChronicles of the kingsKings of Israel? |
| 10:35 |
And Jehu slept with his fathers;, and they buried him in Samaria. And Jehoahaz his son reignedbecame king in his steadplace. |
| 10:36 |
AndNow the time thatwhich Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty and eight years. |
| 11:1 |
NowWhen when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she aroserose and destroyed all the seedroyal royaloffspring. |
| 11:2 |
But Jehosheba, the daughter of kingKing Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the kings sons thatwho were slainbeing put to death, evenand placed him and his nurse, and put them in the bedchamber;bedroom. andSo they hid him from Athaliah, soand that he was not slain;put to death. |
| 11:3 |
AndSo he was hidden with her hid in the house of Jehovahthe Lord six years., Andwhile Athaliah reignedwas reigning over the land. |
| 11:4 |
AndNow in the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetchedbrought the captains overof hundreds of the Carites and of the guard, and brought them to him intoin the house of Jehovah;the andLord. Then he made a covenant with them, and tookput anthem under oath of them in the house of Jehovahthe Lord, and showed them the kings son. |
| 11:5 |
And he commanded them, saying, This is the thing that yeyou shall do: aone third part of you, thatwho come in on the sabbath, shalland bekeep keepers of the watch ofover the kings house; |
| 11:6 |
andone a third partalso shall be at the gate Sur;, and aone third part at the gate behind the guard:guards, so shall ye keep the watch ofover the house, andfor be a barrierdefense. |
| 11:7 |
And the two companiesparts of you, even all thatwho go forthout on the sabbath, shall also keep the watch ofover the house of Jehovahthe aboutLord for the king. |
| 11:8 |
AndThen yeyou shall compasssurround the king round about, everyeach man with his weapons in his hand; and hewhoever thatcomes cometh within the ranks, letshall him be slain:put andto death. And be ye with the king when he goethgoes out, and when he comethcomes in. |
| 11:9 |
AndSo the captains overof hundreds did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded;. andAnd theyeach tookone everyof manthem took his men, thosewho that were to come in on the sabbath, with those thatwho were to go out on the sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest. |
| 11:10 |

And the guardguards stood, everyeach man with his weapons in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, along by the altar and by the house, byaround the king round about. |
| 11:12 |
Then he brought out the kings son, out and put the crown uponon him, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him;, and they clapped their hands, and said, Long live the king.! |
| 11:13 |
AndWhen when Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she came to the people intoin the house of Jehovah:the Lord. |
| 11:14 |
andAnd she looked, and, behold, the king stoodwas standing by the pillar, asaccording to the manner wascustom, andwith the captains and the trumpetstrumpeters bybeside the king; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew trumpets. Then Athaliah renttore her clothes, and cried, Treason! treasonTreason! |
| 11:15 |
And Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of hundreds thatwho were setappointed over the hostarmy, and said untoto them, HaveBring her forthout between the ranks;, and himwhoever thatfollows followeth her slayput to death with the sword. For the priest said, Let her not be slainput to death in the house of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 11:16 |
So they madeseized way for her;, and when she wentarrived byat the way of the horses entryentrance toof the kings house:, andshe there was sheput slainto death there. |
| 11:17 |
AndThen Jehoiada made a covenant between Jehovahthe Lord and the king and the people, that they should be Jehovahsthe Lords people;, also between the king also and the people. |
| 11:18 |
And all the people of the land went to the house of Baal, and braketore it down; his altars and his images brake they broke in pieces thoroughly, and slewkilled Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of Jehovahthe Lord. |

And Jehoash did that which was right in the eyessight of Jehovahthe Lord all his days whereinin which Jehoiada the priest instructed him. |
| 12:3 |
HowbeitOnly the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burntburned incense inon the high places. |
| 12:4 |
AndThen Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the hallowedsacred things thatwhich is brought into the house of Jehovahthe Lord, in current money, both the money of the persons for whom each manmans isassessment rated, and all the money thatwhich it cometh into any mans heart prompts him to bring into the house of Jehovahthe Lord, |
| 12:5 |
let the priests take it tofor themthemselves, everyeach man from his acquaintance; and they shall repair the breachesdamages of the house, wheresoeverwherever any breachdamage shallmay be found. |
| 12:6 |
But it wascame so,about that in the threetwenty andthird twentieth year of kingKing Jehoash the priests had not repaired the breachesdamages of the house. |

| 16:3 |
But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, yea, and even made his son to pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the nations, whom Jehovahthe castLord had driven out from before the childrensons of Israel. |
| 16:4 |
And he sacrificed and burntburned incense inon the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree. |
| 16:5 |
Then Rezin king of SyriaAram and Pekah son of Remaliah, king of Israel, came up to Jerusalem to wage war:; and they besieged Ahaz, but could not overcome him. |
| 16:6 |
At that time Rezin king of SyriaAram recovered Elath tofor SyriaAram, and drovecleared the JewsJudeans fromout of Elath entirely; and the SyriansArameans came to Elath, and dwelthave lived there, untoto this day. |
| 16:7 |
So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath pileser king of Assyria, saying, I am thyyour servant and thyyour son:; come up, and savedeliver me outfrom of the hand of the king of SyriaAram, and outfrom of the hand of the king of Israel, who riseare rising up against me. |
| 16:8 |
And Ahaz took the silver and gold that was found in the house of Jehovah, the Lord and in the treasurestreasuries of the kings house, and sent it for a present to the king of Assyria. |
| 16:9 |
AndSo the king of Assyria hearkenedlistened untoto him; and the king of Assyria went up against Damascus, and tookcaptured it, and carried the people of it captiveaway into exile to Kir, and slewput Rezin to death. |
| 16:10 |
AndNow kingKing Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath pileser king of Assyria, and saw the altar thatwhich was at Damascus; and kingKing Ahaz sent to Urijah the priest the fashionpattern of the altar, and theits pattern of itmodel, according to all theits workmanship thereof. |
| 16:11 |
AndSo Urijah the priest built an altar:; according to all that kingKing Ahaz had sent from Damascus, sothus did Urijah the priest makemade it, againstbefore the coming of kingKing Ahaz from Damascus. |
| 16:12 |
And when the king wascame come from Damascus, the king saw the altar:; andthen the king drewapproached near unto the altar, and offeredwent thereon.up to it, |
| 16:13 |
Andand heburned burnt his burnt offering and his meal offering, and poured his drinklibation offering, and sprinkled the blood of his peace offerings, uponon the altar. |
| 16:14 |
And the brazenbronze altar, which was before Jehovahthe Lord, he brought from the forefrontfront of the house, from between his altar and the house of Jehovahthe Lord, and he put it on the north side of his altar. |
| 16:15 |
AndThen kingKing Ahaz commanded Urijah the priest, saying, Upon the great altar burn the morning burnt offering, and the evening meal offering, and the kings burnt offering, and his meal offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land, and their meal offering, and their drink offeringslibations; and sprinkle uponon it all the blood of the burnt offering, and all the blood of the sacrifice:. butBut the brazenbronze altar shall be for me to inquire by. |
| 16:16 |
ThusSo did Urijah the priest, did according to all that kingKing Ahaz commanded. |
| 16:17 |
AndThen kingKing Ahaz cut off the panelsborders of the basesstands, and removed the laver from off them,; andhe also took down the sea from off the brazenbronze oxen thatwhich were under it, and put it uponon a pavement of stone. |
| 16:18 |
And the covered way for the sabbath thatwhich they had built in the house, and the kingsouter entry withoutof the king, turned he untoremoved from the house of Jehovah, the Lord because of the king of Assyria. |
| 16:19 |
Now the rest of the acts of Ahaz which he did, are they not written in the bookBook of the chroniclesChronicles of the kingsKings of Judah? |
| 16:20 |
AndSo Ahaz slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David:; and Hezekiah his son Hezekiah reigned in his steadplace. |
| 17:1 |
In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah, began Hoshea the son of Elah tobecame reignking over Israel in Samaria over Israel, and reigned nine years. |
| 17:2 |
And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord, yetonly not as the kings of Israel thatwho were before him. |
| 17:3 |
AgainstShalmaneser himking of Assyria came up Shalmaneseragainst kinghim, of Assyria; and Hoshea became his servant, and broughtpaid him tribute. |
| 17:4 |
AndBut the king of Assyria found conspiracy in Hoshea;, forwho he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and had offered no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year:; thereforeso the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison. |
| 17:5 |
Then the king of Assyria cameinvaded upthe throughoutwhole all the land, and went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years. |
| 17:6 |
In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria tookcaptured Samaria, and carried Israel away untointo exile to Assyria, and placedsettled them in Halah, and on the Habor, on the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes. |
| 17:7 |
AndNow itthis wascame soabout, because the childrensons of Israel had sinned against Jehovahthe Lord their God, who had brought them up outfrom of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and they had feared other gods, |
| 17:8 |
and walked in the statutescustoms of the nations, whom Jehovahthe castLord had driven out from before the childrensons of Israel, and in the customs of the kings of Israel, which they madehad introduced. |
| 17:9 |
And the childrensons of Israel did things secretly thingswhich that were not right, against Jehovahthe Lord their God:. andMoreover, they built themfor themselves high places in all their citiestowns, from thewatchtower tower of the watchmen to the fortified city;. |
| 17:10 |
andAnd they set themfor upthemselves sacred pillars and Asherim uponon every high hill, and under every green tree;, |
| 17:11 |
and there they burntburned incense inon all the high places, as the nations did which the nationsLord whomhad Jehovah carried away to exile before them; and they wroughtdid wickedevil things toprovoking provokethe Jehovah to anger;Lord. |
| 17:12 |
andAnd they served idols, whereofconcerning Jehovahwhich the Lord had said untoto them, YeYou shall not do this thing. |
| 17:13 |
Yet Jehovahthe testifiedLord untowarned Israel, and unto Judah, bythrough everyall prophet,His prophets and every seer, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep myMy commandments, andMy my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you bythrough myMy servants the prophets. |
| 17:14 |
NotwithstandingHowever, they woulddid not hearlisten, but hardenedstiffened their neck, like to the neck of their fathers, who believeddid not believe in Jehovahthe Lord their God. |
| 17:15 |
And they rejected hisHis statutes, and hisHis covenant thatwhich heHe made with their fathers, and hisHis testimonieswarnings with which heHe testifiedwarned unto them;. andAnd they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the nations thatwhich weresurrounded round about them, concerning whomwhich Jehovahthe Lord had chargedcommanded them thatnot theyto should not do like them. |
| 17:16 |
And they forsook all the commandments of Jehovahthe Lord their God, and made themfor themselves molten images, even two calves, and made an Asherah, and worshippedworshiped all the host of heaven, and served Baal. |
| 17:17 |
AndThen they causedmade their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and usedpracticed divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do that which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord, toprovoking provoke him to angerHim. |
| 17:18 |
ThereforeSo Jehovahthe Lord was very angry with Israel, and removed them outfrom ofHis his sight:; therenone was none left butexcept the tribe of Judah only. |
| 17:19 |
Also Judah keptdid not keep the commandments of Jehovahthe Lord their God, but walked in the statutescustoms ofwhich Israel whichhad they madeintroduced. |
| 17:20 |
And Jehovahthe Lord rejected all the seeddescendants of Israel, and afflicted them, and deliveredgave them into the hand of spoilersplunderers, until heHe had cast them out of hisHis sight. |
| 17:21 |
ForWhen heHe renthad torn Israel from the house of David;, and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king:. andThen Jeroboam drove Israel away from following Jehovahthe Lord, and made them sincommit a great sin. |
| 17:22 |
And the childrensons of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they departeddid not depart from them;, |
| 17:23 |
until Jehovahthe Lord removed Israel outfrom ofHis his sight, as heHe spakespoke bythrough all hisHis servants the prophets. So Israel was carried away outinto ofexile from their own land to Assyria untountil this day. |
| 17:24 |
And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Avva, and from Hamath and SepharvaimSephar vaim, and placedsettled them in the cities of Samaria insteadin place of the childrensons of Israel;. andSo they possessed Samaria, and dweltlived in theits cities thereof. |
| 17:25 |
And so it was, came about at the beginning of their dwellingliving there, that they feareddid not Jehovah:fear the Lord; therefore Jehovahthe Lord sent lions among them, which killed some of them. |
| 17:26 |
WhereforeSo they spakespoke to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations whichwhom thouyou hasthave carried away, andinto placedexile in the cities of Samaria, knowdo not know the lawcustom of the god of the land:; thereforeso he hathhas sent lions among them, and, behold, they slaykill them, because they knowdo not know the lawcustom of the god of the land. |
| 17:27 |
Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, CarryTake thitherthere one of the priests whom yeyou broughtcarried fromaway thence;into exile, and let themhim go and dwelllive there,; and let him teach them the lawcustom of the god of the land. |
| 17:28 |
So one of the priests whom they had carried away into exile from Samaria came and dweltlived inat Beth elBethel, and taught them how they should fear Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 17:29 |
HowbeitBut every nation still made gods of theirits own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritanspeople of Samaria had made, every nation in their cities whereinin which they dweltlived. |
| 17:30 |
And the men of Babylon made Succoth benoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima, |
| 17:31 |
and the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak; and the Sepharvites burntburned their children in the fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim. |
| 17:32 |
SoThey theyalso feared Jehovah, the Lord and madeappointed unto them from among themselves priests of the high places, who sacrificedacted for them in the houses of the high places. |
| 17:33 |
They feared Jehovah, the Lord and served their own gods, afteraccording to the mannercustom of the nations from among whom they had been carried away into exile. |
| 17:34 |
UntoTo this day they do afteraccording to the formerearlier mannercustoms: they feardo not Jehovahfear the Lord, neithernor do they afterfollow their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law, or after the commandmentcommandments which Jehovahthe Lord commanded the childrensons of Jacob, whom heHe named Israel; |
| 17:35 |
with whom Jehovahthe hadLord made a covenant, and chargedcommanded them, saying, YeYou shall not fear other gods, nor bow down yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them:. |
| 17:36 |
butBut Jehovahthe Lord, who brought you up outfrom of the land of Egypt with great power and with an outstretched arm, himHim you shall ye fear, and untoto himHim you shall ye bow yourselves down, and to himHim you shall ye sacrifice:. |
| 17:37 |
andAnd the statutes and the ordinances, and the law and the commandment, which heHe wrote for you, yeyou shall observe to do for evermoreforever; and yeyou shall not fear other gods:. |
| 17:38 |
andAnd the covenant that I have made with you, yeyou shall not forget;, neithernor shall yeyou fear other gods:. |
| 17:39 |
butBut Jehovahthe Lord your God you shall ye fear; and heHe will deliver you outfrom of the hand of all your enemies. |
| 17:40 |
HowbeitHowever, they did not hearkenlisten, but they did afteraccording to their formerearlier mannercustom. |
| 17:41 |
So while these nations feared Jehovahthe Lord, andthey also served their graven imagesidols; their children likewise, and their childrens childrengrandchildren, as did their fathers did, so they do theyto unto this day. |
| 18:1 |
Now it came toabout pass in the third year of Hoshea, the son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah beganbecame to reignking. |
| 18:2 |
TwentyHe andwas twenty five years old was he when he beganbecame toking, reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem:; and his mothers name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah. |
| 18:3 |
And he did that which was right in the eyessight of Jehovahthe Lord, according to all that David his father David had done. |
| 18:4 |
He removed the high places, and brakebroke down the sacred pillars, and cut down the Asherah:. andHe healso brakebroke in pieces the brazenbronze serpent that Moses had made;, for untountil those days the childrensons of Israel didburned burn incense to it; and heit was called it Nehushtan. |
| 18:5 |
He trusted in Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel; so that after him there was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor among themthose thatwho were before him. |
| 18:6 |
For he claveclung to Jehovahthe Lord; he departeddid not depart from following himHim, but kept hisHis commandments, which Jehovahthe Lord had commanded Moses. |
| 18:7 |
And Jehovahthe Lord was with him; whithersoeverwherever he went forth he prospered:. andAnd he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and serveddid not serve him not. |
| 18:8 |
He smotedefeated the Philistines untoas far as Gaza and theits borders thereofterritory, from thewatchtower tower of the watchmen to the fortified city. |
| 18:9 |
AndNow it came toabout pass in the fourth year of kingKing Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it. |
| 18:10 |
And at the end of three years they tookcaptured it:; in the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was takencaptured. |
| 18:11 |
AndThen the king of Assyria carried Israel away untointo exile to Assyria, and put them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes, |
| 18:12 |
because they obeyeddid not obey the voice of Jehovahthe Lord their God, but transgressed hisHis covenant, even all that Moses the servant of Jehovahthe Lord commanded,; andthey would notneither hear itlisten, nor do it. |
| 18:13 |
Now in the fourteenth year of kingKing Hezekiah, did Sennacherib king of Assyria comecame up against all the fortified cities of Judah, and tookseized them. |
| 18:14 |
AndThen Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria toat Lachish, saying, I have offended;done returnwrong. Withdraw from me:; thatwhatever whichyou thouimpose puttest on me I will I bear. AndSo the king of Assyria appointedrequired untoof Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold. |
| 18:15 |
And Hezekiah gave him all the silver thatwhich was found in the house of Jehovahthe Lord, and in the treasurestreasuries of the kings house. |
| 18:16 |
At that time did Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of Jehovahthe Lord, and from the pillarsdoorposts which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria. |
| 18:17 |
AndThen the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rab saris and Rabshakeh from Lachish to kingKing Hezekiah with a greatlarge army untoto Jerusalem. AndSo they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they werewent come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is inon the highway of the fullers field. |
| 18:18 |
AndWhen when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebnah the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, came out to them. |
| 18:19 |
AndThen Rabshakeh said untoto them, Say ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saithsays the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this whereinconfidence thouthat trustestyou have? |
| 18:20 |
ThouYou sayestsay but they are butonly vainempty words, ThereI ishave counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom dostdo thouyou trustrely, that thouyou hasthave rebelled against me? |
| 18:21 |
Now, behold, thouyou trustestrely uponon the staff of this bruisedcrushed reed, even uponon Egypt; whereonon which if a man leanleans, it will go into his hand, and pierce it:. soSo is Pharaoh king of Egypt untoto all thatwho trustrely on him. |
| 18:22 |
But if yeyou say untoto me, We trust in Jehovahthe Lord our God;, is it not thatHe he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hathhas taken away, and hathhas said to Judah and to Jerusalem, YeYou shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem ? |
| 18:23 |
Now therefore, Icome, praymake thee,a givebargain pledgeswith to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give theeyou two thousand horses, if thouyou beare able on thyyour part to set riders uponon them. |
| 18:24 |
How then canstcan thouyou turnrepulse away the face of one captainofficial of the least of my masters servants, and putrely thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen? |
| 18:25 |
AmHave I now come up without Jehovahthe Lords approval against this place to destroy it? JehovahThe Lord said untoto me, Go up against this land, and destroy it. |
| 18:26 |
Then said Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebnah, and Joah, untosaid to Rabshakeh, Speak, Inow pray thee, to thyyour servants in theAramaic, Syrian language; for we understand it:; and speakdo not speak with us in the Jews languageJudean, in the earshearing of the people thatwho are on the wall. |
| 18:27 |
But Rabshakeh said untoto them, HathHas my master sent me only to thyyour master, and to thee, you to speak these words?, hathand he not sent me to the men thatwho sit on the wall, doomed to eat their own dung, and to drink their own waterurine with you? |
| 18:28 |
Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews languageJudean, and spake, saying, Hear ye the word of the great king, the king of Assyria. |
| 18:29 |
Thus saithsays the king, LetDo not let Hezekiah deceive you;, for he will not be able to deliver you outfrom ofmy his hand:; |
| 18:30 |
neithernor let Hezekiah make you trust in Jehovahthe Lord, saying, JehovahThe Lord will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria. |
| 18:31 |
HearkenDo not listen to Hezekiah:, for thus saithsays the king of Assyria, Make your peace with me, and come out to me;, and eat yeeach every one of his vine, and everyeach one of his fig tree, and drink yeeach everyof one the waters of his own cistern;, |
| 18:32 |
until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and of honey, that yeyou may live, and not die:. andBut hearkendo not untolisten to Hezekiah, when he persuadethmisleads you, saying, JehovahThe Lord will deliver us. |
| 18:33 |
HathHas any one of the gods of the nations ever delivered his land outfrom of the hand of the king of Assyria? |
| 18:34 |
Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? whereWhere are the gods of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah? haveHave they delivered Samaria outfrom of my hand? |
| 18:35 |
Who are they among all the gods of the countries, lands that have delivered their countryland outfrom of my hand, that Jehovahthe Lord should deliver Jerusalem outfrom of my hand? |
| 18:36 |
But the people heldwere theirsilent peace, and answered him not a word;, for the kings commandment was, saying,Do Answernot answer him not. |
| 18:37 |
Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph, the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, torn and told him the words of Rabshakeh. |
| 19:1 |
And it came to pass, when kingKing Hezekiah heard it, that he renttore his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and wententered into the house of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 19:2 |
AndThen he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, andwith Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, untoto Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz. |
| 19:3 |
And they said untoto him, Thus saithsays Hezekiah, This day is a day of troubledistress, and of rebuke, and of contumelyrejection; for the children arehave come to the birth, and there is notno strength to bring forthdeliver. |
| 19:4 |
ItPerhaps maythe beLord Jehovahyour thy God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom his master the king of Assyria hishas master hath sent to defyreproach the living God, and will rebuke the words which Jehovahthe thyLord your God hathhas heard:. whereforeTherefore, liftoffer upa thy prayer for the remnant that is left. |
| 19:5 |
So the servants of kingKing Hezekiah came to Isaiah. |
| 19:6 |
And Isaiah said untoto them, Thus you shall ye say to your master, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, BeDo not be afraid because of the words that thouyou hasthave heard, wherewithwith which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed meMe. |
| 19:7 |
Behold, I will put a spirit in him, andso that he shall hear tidings,a rumor and shall return to his own land;. andAnd I will causemake him to fall by the sword in his own land. |
| 19:8 |
SoThen Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warringfighting against Libnah;, for he had heard that hethe wasking departedhad fromleft Lachish. |
| 19:9 |
AndWhen when he heard them say ofconcerning Tirhakah king of EthiopiaCush, Behold, he ishas come out to fight against theeyou, he sent messengers again untoto Hezekiah, saying, |
| 19:10 |
Thus you shall yesay speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying,Do Let not thylet your God in whom thouyou trustesttrust deceive thee, you saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria. |
| 19:11 |
Behold, thouyou hasthave heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the lands, by destroying them utterly:completely. andSo shaltwill thouyou be deliveredspared? |
| 19:12 |
HaveDid the gods of thethose nations delivered them, which my fathers havedestroyed destroyeddeliver them, even Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the childrensons of Eden thatwho were in Telassar? |
| 19:13 |
Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, and of Hena, and Ivvah? |
| 19:14 |
AndThen Hezekiah receivedtook the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it;, and Hezekiahhe went up untoto the house of Jehovah, the Lord and spread it out before Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 19:15 |
And Hezekiah prayed before Jehovah, the Lord and said, O JehovahLord, the God of Israel, thatwho sittestart enthroned above the cherubim, thouThou art the God, evenThou thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth;. thouThou hast made heaven and earth. |
| 19:16 |
Incline thineThine ear, O JehovahLord, and hear; open thineThine eyes, O JehovahLord, and see; and hearlisten to the words of Sennacherib, wherewithwhich he hathhas sent him to defyreproach the living God. |
| 19:17 |
OfTruly, aO truthLord, Jehovah, the kings of Assyria have laiddevastated waste the nations and their lands, |
| 19:18 |
and have cast their gods into the fire;, for they were nonot gods, but the work of mens hands, wood and stone;. thereforeSo they have destroyed them. |
| 19:19 |
NowAnd thereforenow, O JehovahLord our God, saveI thou uspray, Ideliver beseechus thee, from out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thouThou Jehovahalone, O Lord, art God alone. |
| 19:20 |
Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel, WhereasBecause thouyou hasthave prayed to meMe againstabout Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard theeyou. |
| 19:21 |
This is the word that Jehovahthe hathLord has spoken concerningagainst him: TheShe virginhas daughter of Zion hath despised theeyou and laughedmocked theeyou, toThe scorn;virgin the daughter of JerusalemZion; hathShe has shaken her head atbehind thee.you, The daughter of Jerusalem! |
| 19:22 |
Whom hasthave thouyou defiedreproached and blasphemed? andAnd against whom hasthave thouyou exaltedraised thyyour voice, andAnd haughtily lifted up thineyour eyes on high? evenAgainst against the Holy One of Israel.! |
| 19:23 |
ByThrough thyyour messengers thouyou hasthave defiedreproached the Lord, andAnd hastyou have said, With themy multitudemany of my chariots am I comecame up to the heightheights of the mountains, toTo the innermostremotest parts of Lebanon; andAnd I will cut down theits tall cedars thereof, and theits choice fircypresses. treesAnd thereof; and I willentered enterits into his farthest lodging place, theits thickest forest of his fruitful field. |
| 19:24 |
I havedug diggedwells and drunkdrank strangeforeign waters, andAnd with the sole of my feet will I drydried up allAll the rivers of Egypt. |
| 19:25 |
HastHave thouyou not heard? howLong ago I havedid done it; longFrom ago, ancient andtimes formedI planned it. ofNow ancientI times? now have I brought it to pass, thatThat ityou should beturn thine to lay waste fortified cities into ruinous heaps. |
| 19:26 |
Therefore their inhabitants were short of small powerstrength, theyThey were dismayed and confoundedput to shame; theyThey were as the grassvegetation of the field, and as the green herb, asAs the grass on the housetops, andis asscorched grain blasted before it is grown up. |
| 19:27 |
But I know thyyour sitting down, andAnd thyyour going out, and thyyour coming in, andAnd thyyour raging against meMe. |
| 19:28 |
Because of thyyour raging against meMe, andAnd because thineyour arrogancyarrogance ishas come up intoto mineMy ears, thereforeTherefore I will I put myMy hook in thyyour nose, andAnd myMy bridle in thyyour lips, andAnd I will turn theeyou back by the way by which thouyou camestcame. |
| 19:29 |
AndThen this shall be the sign untofor theeyou: yeyou shall eat this year thatwhat whichgrows groweth of itself, and in the second year thatwhat whichsprings springethfrom of the same;, and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat thetheir fruit thereof. |
| 19:30 |
And the surviving remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward. |
| 19:31 |
For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and out of mountMount Zion theysurvivors. thatThe shallzeal escape:of the zealLord of Jehovah shall perform this. |
| 19:32 |
Therefore thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come untoto this city, noror shoot an arrow there,; neither shall he come before it with a shield, nor castthrow up a mound against it. |
| 19:33 |
By the way that he came, by the same he shall he return, and he shall not come untoto this city, saithdeclares Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 19:34 |
For I will defend this city to save it, for mineMy own sake, and for myMy servant Davids sake. |
| 19:35 |
AndThen it camehappened to pass that night, that the angel of Jehovahthe Lord went forthout, and smotestruck 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians; a hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when men aroserose early in the morning, behold, theseall of them were all dead bodies. |
| 19:36 |
So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and wentreturned and returnedhome, and dweltlived at Nineveh. |
| 19:37 |
And it came toabout pass, as he was worshippingworshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer smotekilled him with the sword:; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. And EsarEsarhaddon haddon his son reignedbecame king in his steadplace. |
| 20:1 |
In those days was Hezekiah sickbecame untomortally deathill. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said untoto him, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, Set thyyour house in order;, for thouyou shaltshall die, and not live. |
| 20:2 |
Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed untoto Jehovahthe Lord, saying, |
| 20:3 |
Remember now, O JehovahLord, I beseech theeThee, how I have walked before theeThee in truth and with a perfectwhole heart, and have done thatwhat which is good in thyThy sight. And Hezekiah wept sorebitterly. |
| 20:4 |
And it came toabout pass, before Isaiah washad gone out intoof the middle part of the citycourt, that the word of Jehovahthe Lord came to him, saying, |
| 20:5 |
TurnReturn back, and say to Hezekiah the princeleader of myMy people, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Davidyour thyfather fatherDavid, I have heard thyyour prayer, I have seen thyyour tears:; behold, I will heal thee;you. onOn the third day thouyou shaltshall go up untoto the house of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 20:6 |
And I will add untofifteen thyyears daysto fifteenyour years;life, and I will deliver theeyou and this city outfrom of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mineMy own sake, and for myMy servant Davids sake. |
| 20:7 |
AndThen Isaiah said, Take a cake of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered. |
| 20:8 |
AndNow Hezekiah said untoto Isaiah, What shallwill be the sign that Jehovahthe Lord will heal me, and that I shall go up untoto the house of Jehovahthe Lord the third day? |
| 20:9 |
And Isaiah said, This shall be the sign untoto theeyou from Jehovahthe Lord, that Jehovahthe Lord will do the thing that heHe hathhas spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or go back ten steps? |
| 20:10 |
AndSo Hezekiah answered, It is aeasy light thing for the shadow to decline ten steps:; nayno, but let the shadow returnturn backward ten steps. |
| 20:11 |
And Isaiah the prophet cried untoto Jehovah;the Lord, and heHe brought the shadow on the stairway back ten steps backward, by which it had gone down on the dialstairway of Ahaz. |
| 20:12 |
At that time Berodach baladan thea son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present untoto Hezekiah;, for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick. |
| 20:13 |
And Hezekiah hearkenedlistened untoto them, and showed them all the house of his precioustreasure thingshouse, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious oil, and the house of his armor, and all that was found in his treasures:treasuries. thereThere was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah showeddid not show them not. |
| 20:14 |
Then came Isaiah the prophet untocame kingto King Hezekiah, and said untoto him, What saiddid these men? say, and from whencewhere camehave they untocome theeto you? And Hezekiah said, They arehave come from a far country, even from Babylon. |
| 20:15 |
And he said, What have they seen in thyyour house? AndSo Hezekiah answered, AllThey have seen all that is in my house; have they seen: there is nothing among my treasurestreasuries that I have not showedshown them. |
| 20:16 |
AndThen Isaiah said untoto Hezekiah, Hear the word of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 20:17 |
Behold, the days come, are thatcoming when all that is in thyyour house, and all that whichyour thy fathers have laid up in store untoto this day, shall be carried to Babylon:; nothing shall be left, saithsays Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 20:18 |
And some of thyyour sons thatwho shall issue from theeyou, whom thouyou shaltshall beget, shall theybe taketaken away; and they shall bebecome eunuchsofficials in the palace of the king of Babylon. |
| 20:19 |
Then Hezekiah said Hezekiahto unto Isaiah, GoodThe is the word of Jehovahthe Lord which thouyou hasthave spoken is good. HeFor saidhe moreoverthought, Is it not so, if there shall be peace and truth shall be in my days? |
| 20:20 |
Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made the pool, and the conduit, and brought water into the city, are they not written in the bookBook of the chroniclesChronicles of the kingsKings of Judah? |
| 20:21 |
AndSo Hezekiah slept with his fathers;, and Manasseh his son reignedbecame king in his steadplace. |
| 21:1 |
Manasseh was twelve years old when he beganbecame toking, reign; and he reigned fifty five and fifty years in Jerusalem:; and his mothers name was Hephzibah. |
| 21:2 |
And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord, afteraccording to the abominations of the nations whom Jehovahthe castLord outdispossessed before the childrensons of Israel. |
| 21:3 |
For he builtrebuilt again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he rearederected up altars for Baal, and made an Asherah, as did Ahab king of Israel had done, and worshippedworshiped all the host of heaven, and served them. |
| 21:4 |
And he built altars in the house of Jehovahthe Lord, whereofof Jehovahwhich the Lord had said, In Jerusalem I will I put myMy name. |
| 21:5 |
AndFor he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 21:6 |
And he made his son to pass through the fire, andpracticed practisedwitchcraft augury, and used enchantmentsdivination, and dealt with themmediums that had familiar spirits, and withspiritists. wizards:He hedid wrought much evil in the sight of Jehovah, the toLord provokeprovoking himHim to anger. |
| 21:7 |
AndThen he set the gravencarved image of Asherah, that he had made, in the house of which Jehovahthe Lord said to David and to Solomon his son Solomon, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen outfrom of all the tribes of Israel, I will I put myMy name for ever;forever. |
| 21:8 |
neitherAnd I will Inot causemake the feet of Israel to wander anyanymore morefrom out of the land which I gave their fathers, if only they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that myMy servant Moses commanded them. |
| 21:9 |
But they hearkeneddid not: listen, and Manasseh seduced them to do that which is evil more than did the nations whom Jehovahthe Lord destroyed before the childrensons of Israel. |
| 21:10 |
AndNow Jehovahthe spakeLord byspoke histhrough His servants the prophets, saying, |
| 21:11 |
Because Manasseh king of Judah hathhas done these abominations, andhaving hath done wickedly abovemore than all that the Amorites did, thatwho were before him, and hathhas also made Judah also to sin with his idols; |
| 21:12 |
therefore thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel, Behold, I bringam bringing such evilcalamity uponon Jerusalem and Judah, that whosoeverwhoever hearethhears of it, both his ears shall tingle. |
| 21:13 |
And I will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria, and the plummet of the house of Ahab;, and I will wipe Jerusalem as aone manwipes wipeth a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down. |
| 21:14 |
And I will castabandon off the remnant of mineMy inheritance, and deliver them into the hand of their enemies;, and they shall become aas preyplunder and a spoil to all their enemies; |
| 21:15 |
because they have done that which is evil in myMy sight, and have provokedbeen meprovoking Me to anger, since the day their fathers came forthfrom out of Egypt, even untoto this day. |
| 21:16 |
Moreover, Manasseh shed very much innocent blood veryuntil much, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another; besides his sin wherewithwith which he made Judah to sin, in doing that which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 21:17 |
Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and all that he did, and his sin thatwhich he sinnedcommitted, are they not written in the bookBook of the chroniclesChronicles of the kingsKings of Judah? |
| 21:18 |
And Manasseh slept with his fathers, and was buried in the garden of his own house, in the garden of Uzza:, and Amon his son reignedbecame king in his steadplace. |
| 21:19 |
Amon was twenty and two years old when he beganbecame toking, reign; and he reigned two years in Jerusalem:; and his mothers name was Meshullemeth the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah. |
| 21:20 |
And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord, as did Manasseh his father had done. |
| 21:21 |
AndFor he walked in all the way that his father had walked in, and served the idols that his father had served, and worshippedworshiped them:. |
| 21:22 |
andSo he forsook Jehovahthe Lord, the God of his fathers, and walkeddid not walk in the way of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 21:23 |
And the servants of Amon conspired against him, and putkilled the king to death in his own house. |
| 21:24 |
ButThen the people of the land slewkilled all themthose thatwho had conspired against kingKing Amon;, and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his steadplace. |
| 21:25 |
Now the rest of the acts of Amon which he did, are they not written in the bookBook of the chroniclesChronicles of the kingsKings of Judah? |
| 21:26 |
And he was buried in his sepulchregrave in the garden of Uzza:, and Josiah his son reignedbecame king in his steadplace. |
| 22:1 |
Josiah was eight years old when he beganbecame toking, reign; and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem:; and his mothers name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath. |
| 22:2 |
And he did that which was right in the eyessight of Jehovah, the Lord and walked in all the way of David his father David, andnor turneddid nothe turn aside to the right hand or to the left. |
| 22:3 |
AndNow it came toabout pass in the eighteenth year of kingKing Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of Jehovah, the Lord saying, |
| 22:4 |
Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sumcount the money whichbrought isin broughtto into the house of Jehovah, which the keepersLord ofwhich the thresholddoorkeepers have gathered offrom the people:. |
| 22:5 |
andAnd let them deliver it into the hand of the workmen thatwho have the oversight of the house of Jehovah;the Lord, and let them give it to the workmen thatwho are in the house of Jehovah, the Lord to repair the breachesdamages of the house, |
| 22:6 |
untoto the carpenters, and to the builders, and to the masons, and for buying timber and hewn stone to repair the house. |
| 22:7 |
HowbeitOnly thereno wasaccounting noshall reckoningbe made with them offor the money that was delivered into their hand;hands, for they dealtdeal faithfully. |
| 22:8 |
AndThen Hilkiah the high priest said untoto Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of Jehovahthe Lord. And Hilkiah deliveredgave the book to Shaphan, andwho he read it. |
| 22:9 |
And Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought back word to the king word again, and said, ThyYour servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of the workmen thatwho have the oversight of the house of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 22:10 |
AndMoreover, Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hathhas deliveredgiven me a book. And Shaphan read it beforein the presence of the king. |
| 22:11 |
And it came toabout pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he renttore his clothes. |
| 22:12 |
AndThen the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Micaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the kings servant, saying, |
| 22:13 |
Go ye, inquire of Jehovahthe Lord for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that ishas been found;, for great is the wrath of Jehovahthe Lord that isburns kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkenedlistened untoto the words of this book, to do according untoto all that which is written concerning us. |
| 22:14 |
So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asaiah, went untoto Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe now she dweltlived in Jerusalem in the secondSecond quarterQuarter; and they communedspoke withto her. |
| 22:15 |
And she said untoto them, Thus saithsays Jehovah, the Lord God of Israel:, Tell ye the man thatwho sent you untoto me, |
| 22:16 |
Thusthus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, Behold, I will bring evil uponon this place, and uponon theits inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah hathhas read. |
| 22:17 |
Because they have forsaken me,Me and have burned incense untoto other gods, that they might provoke meMe to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore myMy wrath shallburns be kindled against this place, and it shall not be quenched. |
| 22:18 |
But untoto the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of Jehovah, the Lord thus shall yeyou say to him, Thus saithsays Jehovah, the Lord God of Israel:, AsRegarding touching the words which thouyou hasthave heard, |
| 22:19 |
because thyyour heart was tender, and thouyou didsthumbled humbleyourself thyself before Jehovah, the Lord when thouyou heardestheard what I spakespoke against this place, and against theits inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hastyou renthave thytorn your clothes, and wept before me;Me, I alsotruly have heard theeyou, saithdeclares Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 22:20 |
Therefore, behold, I will gather theeyou to thyyour fathers, and thouyou shaltshall be gathered to thyyour grave in peace, neither shall thineyour eyes see all the evil which I will bring uponon this place. AndSo they brought back word to the king word again. |
| 23:1 |
AndThen the king sent, and they gathered untoto him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem. |
| 23:2 |
And the king went up to the house of Jehovah, the Lord and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great:; and he read in their earshearing all the words of the book of the covenant, which was found in the house of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 23:3 |
And the king stood by the pillar, and made a covenant before Jehovahthe Lord, to walk after Jehovahthe Lord, and to keep hisHis commandments, and hisHis testimonies, and hisHis statutes, with all his heart, and all his soul, to confirmcarry out the words of this covenant that were written in this book:. andAnd all the people stoodentered tointo the covenant. |
| 23:4 |
AndThen the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the thresholddoorkeepers, to bring forth out of the temple of Jehovahthe Lord all the vessels that were made for Baal, and for the Asherah, and for all the host of heaven,; and he burned them withoutoutside Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron, and carried thetheir ashes ofto them unto Beth elBethel. |
| 23:5 |
And he putdid downaway with the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordainedappointed to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the placessurrounding roundarea aboutof Jerusalem;, them also thatthose who burned incense untoto Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, constellations and to all the host of heaven. |
| 23:6 |
And he brought out the Asherah from the house of Jehovah, the withoutLord outside Jerusalem, untoto the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and beatground it to dust, and castthrew theits dust thereofon upon the graves of the common people. |
| 23:7 |
AndHe healso brakebroke down the houses of the sodomites, male thatcult prostitutes which were in the house of Jehovahthe Lord, where the women wovewere weaving hangings for the Asherah. |
| 23:8 |
AndThen he brought all the priests outfrom of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beer shebaBeersheba; and he brakebroke down the high places of the gates thatwhich were at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on aones mans left hand at the city gate of the city. |
| 23:9 |
Nevertheless the priests of the high places camedid not go up to the altar of Jehovahthe Lord in Jerusalem, but they didate eat unleavened bread among their brethrenbrothers. |
| 23:10 |
AndHe healso defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the childrenson of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire tofor Molech. |
| 23:11 |
And he tookdid away with the horses thatwhich the kings of Judah had given to the sun, at the entrance of the house of Jehovahthe Lord, by the chamber of Nathan melech the chamberlainofficial, which was in the precincts; and he burned the chariots of the sun with fire. |
| 23:12 |
And the altars thatwhich were on the roof, of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of Jehovahthe Lord, did the king breakbroke down,; and beathe smashed them down from thencethere, and castthrew thetheir dust of them into the brook Kidron. |
| 23:13 |
And the high places thatwhich were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mount of corruption, destruction which Solomon the king of Israel had buildedbuilt for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Milcom the abomination of the childrensons of Ammon, did the king defiledefiled. |
| 23:14 |
And he brakebroke in pieces the sacred pillars, and cut down the Asherim, and filled their places with thehuman bones of men. |
| 23:15 |
MoreoverFurthermore, the altar that was at BethBethel el, and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, had made, even that altar and the high place he brakebroke down;. andThen he burneddemolished theits highstones, placeground andthem beat it to dust, and burned the Asherah. |
| 23:16 |
AndNow aswhen Josiah turned himself, he spiedsaw the sepulchresgraves that were there inon the mount;mountain, and he sent, and took the bones outfrom of the sepulchres, graves and burned them uponon the altar, and defiled it, according to the word of Jehovahthe Lord which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these things. |
| 23:17 |
Then he said, What is this monument is that which I see? And the men of the city told him, It is the sepulchregrave of the man of God, who came from Judah, and proclaimed these things thatwhich thouyou hasthave done against the altar of Beth elBethel. |
| 23:18 |
And he said, Let him bealone; let no manone movedisturb his bones. So they letleft his bones alone, undisturbed with the bones of the prophet thatwho came outfrom of Samaria. |
| 23:19 |
And Josiah also removed all the houses also of the high places thatwhich were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made toprovoking provokethe JehovahLord; toand anger,he Josiah took away, and did to them accordingjust toas all the acts that he had done in Beth elBethel. |
| 23:20 |
And he slew all the priests of the high places thatwho were there, uponhe slaughtered on the altars, and burned menshuman bones uponon them; andthen he returned to Jerusalem. |
| 23:21 |
AndThen the king commanded all the people, saying, KeepCelebrate the passoverPassover untoto Jehovahthe Lord your God, as it is written in this book of the covenant. |
| 23:22 |
Surely theresuch wasa notPassover kepthad suchnot abeen passovercelebrated from the days of the judges thatwho judged Israel, nor in all the days of the kings of Israel, norand of the kings of Judah;. |
| 23:23 |
butBut in the eighteenth year of kingKing Josiah, was this passoverPassover keptwas observed to Jehovahthe Lord in Jerusalem. |
| 23:24 |
Moreover, themJosiah thatremoved hadthe familiarmediums spirits, and the wizards, spiritists and the teraphim, and the idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did Josiah put away, that he might confirm the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of Jehovahthe Lord. |
| 23:25 |
And likebefore unto him there was there no king beforelike him, thatwho turned to Jehovahthe Lord with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neithernor afterdid himany aroselike therehim anyarise likeafter him. |
| 23:26 |
NotwithstandingHowever, Jehovahthe turnedLord did not turn from the fierceness of hisHis great wrath, wherewithwith hiswhich His anger wasburned kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations wherewithwith which Manasseh had provoked himHim. |
| 23:27 |
And Jehovahthe Lord said, I will remove Judah also outfrom ofMy my sight, as I have removed Israel,. andAnd I will cast off Jerusalem, this city which I have chosen, even Jerusalem, and the housetemple of which I said, My name shall be there. |
| 23:28 |
Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and all that he did, are they not written in the bookBook of the chroniclesChronicles of the kingsKings of Judah? |
| 23:29 |
In his days Pharaoh necohNeco king of Egypt went up againstto the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates:. andAnd kingKing Josiah went againstto meet him;, and when Pharaoh necohNeco slewsaw him athe Megiddo, killed whenhim heat had seen himMegiddo. |
| 23:30 |
And his servants carrieddrove himhis body in a chariot dead from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own sepulchretomb. AndThen the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and anointed him, and made him king in place of his fathers steadfather. |
| 23:31 |
Jehoahaz was twenty and three years old when he beganbecame toking, reign; and he reigned three months in Jerusalem:; and his mothers name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. |
| 23:32 |
And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord, according to all that his fathers had done. |
| 23:33 |
