| 1:1 |
Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus throughby the will of God, and Timothy our brother, untoto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints thatwho are inthroughout the whole of Achaia: |
| 1:4 |
who comfortethcomforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort themthose thatwho are in any affliction, throughwith the comfort wherewithwith which we ourselves are comforted ofby God. |
| 1:5 |
For just as the sufferings of Christ aboundare untoours usin abundance, even so also our comfort alsois aboundethabundant through Christ. |
| 1:6 |
But whetherif we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; or whetherif we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which workethis effective in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer:; |
| 1:7 |
and our hope for you is stedfast;firmly grounded, knowing that, as yeyou are partakerssharers of theour sufferings, so also you are yesharers of theour comfort. |
| 1:8 |
For we woulddo not havewant you ignorantto be unaware, brethren, concerningof our affliction which befellcame to us in Asia, that we were weighedburdened down exceedinglyexcessively, beyond our powerstrength, insomuchso that we despaired even of life:; |
| 1:9 |
yeaindeed, we ourselves have had the sentence of death within ourselves, in order that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raisethraises the dead:; |
| 1:10 |
who delivered us outfrom of so great a peril of death, and will deliver: us, He on whom we have set our hope. thatAnd heHe will alsoyet still deliver us;, |
| 1:11 |
yeyou also helpingjoining togetherin onhelping ourus behalfthrough by your supplication;prayers, that, forthanks themay giftbe bestowedgiven uponby usmany bypersons meanson ofour many, behalf thanksfor maythe befavor givenbestowed byupon manyus personsthrough onthe ourprayers behalfof many. |
| 1:12 |
For our gloryingproud confidence is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and godly sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we behavedhave conducted ourselves in the world, and moreespecially abundantlytoward to you ward. |
| 1:13 |
For we write nonothing otherelse thingsto unto you, than what yeyou read orand even acknowledgeunderstand, and I hope yeyou will acknowledgeunderstand untountil the end:; |
| 1:14 |
just as you also yepartially did acknowledgeunderstand us in part, that we are your glorying, reason evento be proud as yeyou also are ours, in the day of our Lord Jesus. |
| 1:15 |
And in this confidence I wasintended mindedat first to come firstto unto you, that yeyou might havetwice receive a second benefitblessing; |
| 1:16 |
andthat byis, you to pass your way into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come untoto you, and ofby you to be sethelped forward on my journey untoto JudaeaJudea. |
| 1:17 |
WhenTherefore, I therefore was thusnot minded, vacillating didwhen I showintended fickleness?to ordo thethis, thingswas I? Or that which I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be theyes, yeayes yea and no, no at the naysame naytime? |
| 1:18 |
But as God is faithful, our word towardto you is not yeayes and nayno. |
| 1:19 |
For the Son of God, Christ Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timothy, was not yeayes and nayno, but inis himyes isin yeaHim. |
| 1:20 |
For howas many soeveras may be the promises of God, in himHim isthey theare yea:yes; wherefore also throughby himHim is theour Amen, untoto the glory of God through us. |
| 1:21 |
Now heHe thatwho establishethestablishes us with you in Christ, and anointed us, is God;, |
| 1:22 |
who also sealed us, and gave us the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge. |
| 1:23 |
But I call God foras a witness uponto my soul, that to spare you I forbarecame tono comemore untoto Corinth. |
| 1:24 |
Not that we haveLord Lordshipit over your faith, but are helpersworkers ofwith you for your joy:; for in your faith yeyou standare faststanding firm. |
| 2:1 |
But I determined this for myselfmy own sake, that I would not come again to you within sorrow again. |
| 2:2 |
For if I makecause you sorrysorrow, who then ismakes he that maketh me glad but hethe thatone iswhom I made sorry by mesorrowful? |
| 2:3 |
And Ithis wroteis thisthe very thing I wrote you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from themthose ofwho whom I ought to make me rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy iswould be the joy of you all. |
| 2:4 |
For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote untoto you with many tears; not that yeyou should be made sorrysorrowful, but that yeyou might know the love which I have moreespecially abundantlyfor unto you. |
| 2:5 |
But if any hathhas caused sorrow, he hathhas caused sorrow, not to me, but in partsome thatdegree Iin pressorder not to say too heavilymuch to all of you all. |
| 2:6 |
Sufficient tofor such a one is this punishment which was inflicted by the many;majority, |
| 2:7 |
so that contrariwiseon yethe contrary you should rather forgive him and comfort him, lest bysomehow any means such a one should be swallowedoverwhelmed upby withexcessive his overmuch sorrow. |
| 2:8 |
Wherefore I beseechurge you to confirmreaffirm your love towardfor him. |
| 2:9 |
For to this end also did I write, wrote that I might knowput theyou proofto ofthe youtest, whether yeyou are obedient in all things. |
| 2:10 |
But to whom yeyou forgive anything, I forgive also:; for indeed what I also have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, I did it for your sakes have I forgiven it in the presence of Christ;, |
| 2:11 |
in order that no advantage may be gainedtaken overof us by Satan:; for we are not ignorant of his devicesschemes. |
| 2:12 |
Now when I came to Troas for the gospel of Christ, and when a door was opened untofor me in the Lord, |
| 2:13 |
I had no reliefrest for my spirit, becausenot Ifinding found not Titus my brother:; but taking my leave of them, I went forthon intoto Macedonia. |
| 2:14 |
But thanks be untoto God, who always leadethleads us in His triumph in Christ, and makethmanifests manifest through us the savorsweet aroma of histhe knowledge of Him in every place. |
| 2:15 |
For we are a sweetfragrance savor of Christ untoto God, inamong themthose thatwho are being saved, and inamong themthose thatwho perishare perishing; |
| 2:16 |
to the one aan savoraroma from death untoto death;, to the other aan savoraroma from life untoto life. And who is sufficientadequate for these things? |
| 2:17 |
For we are not aslike the many, corruptingpeddling the word of God:, but as offrom sincerity, but as offrom God, we speak in Christ in the sight of God, speak we in Christ. |
| 3:1 |
Are we beginning again to commend ourselves again? orOr needdo we need, as do some, epistlesletters of commendation to you or from you? |
| 3:2 |
YeYou are our epistleletter, written in our hearts, known and read ofby all men; |
| 3:3 |
being mademanifested manifest that yeyou are ana epistleletter of Christ, ministeredcared for by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God;, not inon tablestablets of stone, but inon tablestablets thatof arehuman hearts of flesh. |
| 3:4 |
And such confidence we have we through Christ totoward God ward:. |
| 3:5 |
notNot that we are sufficientadequate ofin ourselves, to accountconsider anything as coming from ourselves;, but our sufficiencyadequacy is from God;, |
| 3:6 |
who also made us sufficientadequate as ministersservants of a new covenant;, not of the letter, but of the spirit:Spirit; for the letter killethkills, but the spiritSpirit givethgives life. |
| 3:7 |
But if the ministrationministry of death, written,in andletters engravenengraved on stones, came with glory, so that the childrensons of Israel could not look stedfastlyintently uponat the face of Moses forbecause of the glory of his face;, whichfading gloryas it was passing away:, |
| 3:8 |
how shall not rather the ministrationministry of the spiritSpirit fail to be even more with glory? |
| 3:9 |
For if the ministrationministry of condemnation hathhas glory, much rathermore dothdoes the ministrationministry of righteousness exceedabound in glory. |
| 3:10 |
For verilyindeed thatwhat whichhad hathglory, beenin madethis gloriouscase hathhas notno beenglory madeon gloriousaccount in this respect, by reason of the glory that surpassethsurpasses it. |
| 3:11 |
For if that which passethfades away was with glory, much more that which remainethremains is in glory. |
| 3:12 |
Having therefore such a hope, we use great boldness ofin our speech, |
| 3:13 |
and are not as Moses, who used to put a veil uponover his face, that the childrensons of Israel shouldmight not look stedfastlyintently onat the end of thatwhat which was passingfading away:. |
| 3:14 |
butBut their minds were hardened:; for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remainethremains unlifted, itbecause not being revealed to them that it is doneremoved away in Christ. |
| 3:15 |
But untoto this day, whensoeverwhenever Moses is read, a veil liethlies uponover their heart.; |
| 3:16 |
Butbut whensoeverwhenever ita shallman turnturns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. |
| 3:17 |
Now the Lord is the Spirit:; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. |
| 3:18 |
But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, evenjust as from the Lord, the Spirit. |
| 4:1 |
Therefore, seeingsince we have this ministry, even as we obtainedreceived mercy, we faintdo not: lose heart, |
| 4:2 |
but we have renounced the things hidden thingsbecause of shame, not walking in craftiness, noror handlingadulterating the word of God, deceitfully; but by the manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every mans conscience in the sight of God. |
| 4:3 |
And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled into themthose thatwho perish:are perishing, |
| 4:4 |
in whomwhose case the god of this world hathhas blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn upon them. |
| 4:5 |
For we preachdo not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your bond servants for Jesus sake. |
| 4:6 |
SeeingFor it is God, thatwho said, Light shall shine out of darkness, is the One who shinedhas shone in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. |
| 4:7 |
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the exceedingsurpassing greatness of the power may be of God, and not from ourselves; |
| 4:8 |
we are pressedafflicted onin every sideway, yetbut not straitenedcrushed; perplexed, yetbut not unto despairdespairing; |
| 4:9 |
pursuedpersecuted, yetbut not forsaken; smittenstruck down, yetbut not destroyed; |
| 4:10 |
always bearingcarrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, that the life also of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. |
| 4:11 |
For we who live are alwaysconstantly being delivered untoover to death for Jesus sake, that the life also of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. |
| 4:12 |
So then death workethworks in us, but life in you. |
| 4:13 |
But having the same spirit of faith, according to thatwhat which is written, I believed, and therefore did I speak;spoke, we also believe, and therefore also we speak; |
| 4:14 |
knowing that heHe thatwho raised up the Lord Jesus shallwill raise up us also with Jesus, and shallwill present us with you. |
| 4:15 |
For all things are for your sakes, that the grace, beingwhich multipliedis throughspreading theto many, more and more people may cause the thanksgivinggiving of thanks to abound untoto the glory of God. |
| 4:16 |
WhereforeTherefore we faintdo not; lose heart, but though our outwardouter man is decaying, yet our inwardinner man is being renewed day by day. |
| 4:17 |
For ourmomentary, light affliction, which is forproducing the moment, worketh for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory; far beyond all comparison, |
| 4:18 |
while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen:; for the things which are seen are temporal;, but the things which are not seen are eternal. |
| 5:1 |
For we know that if the earthly housetent ofwhich is our tabernaclehouse beis dissolvedtorn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal, in the heavens. |
| 5:2 |
For verilyindeed in this house we groan, longing to be clothed upon with our habitationdwelling which is from heaven:; |
| 5:3 |
ifinasmuch soas bewe, thathaving beingput clothedit weon, shall not be found naked. |
| 5:4 |
For indeed while we that are in this tabernacletent, dowe groan, being burdened;, notbecause forwe thatdo wenot wouldwant to be unclothed, but thatto we would be clothed upon, in order that what is mortal may be swallowed up ofby life. |
| 5:5 |
Now heHe thatwho wroughtprepared us for this very thingpurpose is God, who gave untoto us the earnestSpirit ofas thea Spiritpledge. |
| 5:6 |
BeingTherefore, thereforebeing always of good courage, and knowing that, whilstwhile we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord |
| 5:7 |
for we walk by faith, not by sight; |
| 5:8 |
we are of good courage, I say, and areprefer willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be at home with the Lord. |
| 5:9 |
WhereforeTherefore also we makehave itas our aimambition, whether at home or absent, to be well pleasing untoto himHim. |
| 5:10 |
For we must all beappear made manifest before the judgment seat of Christ;, that each one may receivebe therecompensed thingsfor donehis deeds in the body, according to what he hathhas done, whether it be good or bad. |
| 5:11 |
KnowingTherefore thereforeknowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, but we are made manifest untoto God; and I hope that we are made manifest also in your consciences. |
| 5:12 |
We are not again commending ourselves untoto you, but speakare as giving you an occasion ofto gloryingbe onproud ourof behalfus, that yeyou may have wherewithan to answer themfor thatthose glorywho take pride in appearance, and not in heart. |
| 5:13 |
For whetherif we are beside ourselves, it is untofor God; orif whether we are of sobersound mind, it is untofor you. |
| 5:14 |
For the love of Christ constrainethcontrols us;, becausehaving weconcluded thus judgethis, that one died for all, therefore all died; |
| 5:15 |
and heHe died for all, that they thatwho live should no longer live untofor themselves, but untofor himHim who for their sakes died and rose again on their behalf. |
| 5:16 |
WhereforeTherefore from now on we henceforthrecognize know no man afteraccording to the flesh:; even though we have known Christ afteraccording to the flesh, yet now we know himHim sothus no morelonger. |
| 5:17 |
WhereforeTherefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature:; the old things are passed away; behold, theynew arethings becomehave newcome. |
| 5:18 |
ButNow all these things are offrom God, who reconciled us to himselfHimself through Christ, and gave unto us the ministry of reconciliation;, |
| 5:19 |
to witnamely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world untoto himselfHimself, not reckoningcounting untotheir themtrespasses theiragainst trespassesthem, and havingHe has committed untoto us the word of reconciliation. |
| 5:20 |
WeTherefore, we are ambassadors thereforefor on behalf of Christ, as though God were entreating bythrough us:; we beseechbeg you on behalf of Christ, be ye reconciled to God. |
| 5:21 |
He made Him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf;, that we might become the righteousness of God in himHim. |
| 6:1 |
And working together with himHim, we entreat also thaturge yeyou not to receive not the grace of God in vain |
| 6:2 |
for heHe saithsays, At anthe acceptable time I hearkenedlistened untoto theeyou, And inon athe day of salvation did I succorhelped thee:you; behold, now is the acceptable time;, behold, now is the day of salvation: |
| 6:3 |
giving no occasioncause offor stumblingoffense in anything, in order that ourthe ministrationministry be not blamed;discredited, |
| 6:4 |
but in everything commending ourselves, as ministersservants of God, in much patienceendurance, in afflictions, in necessitieshardships, in distresses, |
| 6:5 |
in stripesbeatings, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in watchingssleeplessness, in fastings;hunger, |
| 6:6 |
in purenesspurity, in knowledge, in longsufferingpatience, in kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in genuine love unfeigned, |
| 6:7 |
in the word of truth, in the power of God; by the armorweapons of righteousness onfor the right hand and on the left, |
| 6:8 |
by glory and dishonor, by evil report and good report; regarded as deceivers, and yet true; |
| 6:9 |
as unknown, and yet well known;, as dying, andyet behold, we live; as chastened, punished andyet not killed;put to death, |
| 6:10 |
as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing;, as poor, yet making many rich;, as having nothing, and yet possessing all things. |
| 6:11 |
Our mouth ishas openspoken untofreely to you, O Corinthians, our heart is enlargedopened wide. |
| 6:12 |
YeYou are not straitenedrestrained inby us, but yeyou are straitenedrestrained in your own affections. |
| 6:13 |
Now forin a recompense in like kindexchange I speak as untoto my children, beopen yewide to us also enlarged. |
| 6:14 |
BeDo not unequallybe yokedbound together with unbelievers:; for what fellowshippartnership have righteousness and iniquity?lawlessness, or what communionfellowship hathhas light with darkness? |
| 6:15 |
AndOr what concordharmony hathhas Christ with Belial?, or what portionhas hath a believer in common with an unbeliever? |
| 6:16 |
AndOr what agreement hathhas athe temple of God with idols? forFor we are athe temple of the living God; evenjust as God said, I will dwell in them, and walk inamong them; andAnd I will be their God, and they shall be myMy people. |
| 6:17 |
WhereforeTherefore, Comecome ye out from amongtheir them, midst and be ye separate, saithsays the Lord,. And do not touch nowhat is unclean thing; And I will receivewelcome you,. |
| 6:18 |
And I will be a father to you a Father, And yeyou shall be to me sons and daughters to Me, saithSays the Lord Almighty. |
| 7:1 |
HavingTherefore, thereforehaving these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. |
| 7:2 |
OpenMake room for us in your hearts; to us: we wronged no manone, we corrupted no manone, we took advantage of no manone. |
| 7:3 |
I saydo it not speak to condemn you:; for I have said before, that yeyou are in our hearts to die together and to live together. |
| 7:4 |
Great is my boldnessconfidence ofin speech toward you, great is my gloryingboasting on your behalf:; I am filled with comfort,. I overflowam overflowing with joy in all our affliction. |
| 7:5 |
For even when we werecame come into Macedonia our flesh had no reliefrest, but we were afflicted on every side;: conflicts without, werefears fightings, within were fears. |
| 7:6 |
NeverthelessBut heGod, thatwho comfortethcomforts the lowlydepressed, even God, comforted us by the coming of Titus; |
| 7:7 |
and not only by his coming only, but also by the comfort wherewithwith which he was comforted in you, whileas he toldreported to us your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me; so that I rejoiced yeteven more. |
| 7:8 |
For though I madecaused you sorrysorrow withby my epistleletter, I do not regret it:; though I did regret it for I see that that epistleletter madecaused you sorrysorrow, though butonly for a season, while |
| 7:9 |
I now rejoice, not that yeyou were made sorrysorrowful, but that yeyou were made sorrysorrowful untoto the point of repentance; for yeyou were made sorrysorrowful afteraccording ato godlythe sortwill of God, in order that yeyou might not suffer loss byin usanything inthrough nothingus. |
| 7:10 |
For godlythe sorrow workeththat repentanceis untoaccording salvation,to the will of God produces a repentance whichwithout bringethregret, noleading regret:to salvation; but the sorrow of the world workethproduces death. |
| 7:11 |
For behold, what earnestness this selfsamevery thing, thatthis ye were made sorry after a godly sortsorrow, whathas earnestproduced care it wrought in you,: yea what clearingvindication of yourselves, yea what indignation, yea what fear, yea what longing, yea what zeal, yea what avenging of wrong! In everything yeyou approveddemonstrated yourselves to be pureinnocent in the matter. |
| 7:12 |
So although I wrote untoto you, Iit wrotewas not for histhe causesake thatof did the wrongoffender, nor for histhe causesake thatof suffered the wrongone offended, but that your earnestearnestness careon forour usbehalf might be made manifestknown untoto you in the sight of God. |
| 7:13 |
ThereforeFor this reason we have been comforted:. andAnd inbesides our comfort, we joyedrejoiced theeven much more exceedingly for the joy of Titus, because his spirit hathhas been refreshed by you all. |
| 7:14 |
For if in anything I have gloriedboasted to him onabout your behalfyou, I was not put to shame; but as we spakespoke all things to you in truth, so our glorying also whichour Iboasting made before Titus wasproved found to be the truth. |
| 7:15 |
And his affection isabounds all the more abundantly toward you, whileas he rememberethremembers the obedience of you all, how you received him with fear and trembling ye received him. |
| 7:16 |
I rejoice that in everything I amhave ofconfidence goodin courage concerning you. |
| 8:1 |
MoreoverNow, brethren, we wish to make known to you the grace of God which hathhas been given in the churches of Macedonia;, |
| 8:2 |
how that in mucha proofgreat ordeal of affliction thetheir abundance of their joy and their deep poverty aboundedoverflowed untoin the richeswealth of their liberality. |
| 8:3 |
For I testify that according to their powerability, I bear witness, yea and beyond their power, ability they gave of their own accord, |
| 8:4 |
beseechingbegging us with much entreaty infor regardthe favor of thisparticipation grace and the fellowship in the ministeringsupport toof the saints:, |
| 8:5 |
and this, not as we had hopedexpected, but they first they gave theirthemselves own selves to the Lord, and to us throughby the will of God. |
| 8:6 |
InsomuchConsequently that we exhortedurged Titus, that as he had previously made a beginning before, so he would also complete in you this gracegracious alsowork as well. |
| 8:7 |
But just as yeyou abound in everything, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all earnestness, and in yourthe love towe usinspired in you, see that yeyou abound in this gracegracious work also. |
| 8:8 |
I speakam not byspeaking waythis ofas commandmenta command, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity also of your love also. |
| 8:9 |
For yeyou know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though heHe was rich, yet for your sakessake heHe became poor, that yeyou through hisHis poverty might become rich. |
| 8:10 |
And herein I give my judgment:opinion in this matter, for this is expedientto foryour youadvantage, who were the first to makebegin a beginning a year ago, not only to do this, but also to willdesire to do it. |
| 8:11 |
But now completefinish the doing it also; that just as there was the readiness to willdesire it, so there may be also the completion alsoof outit ofby your ability. |
| 8:12 |
For if the readiness is therepresent, it is acceptable according asto what a man hathhas, not according asto what he hathdoes not have. |
| 8:13 |
For Ithis sayis not thisfor thatthe ease of others mayand befor easedyour andaffliction, yebut distressed;by way of equality |
| 8:14 |
butat bythis equality:present time your abundance being a supply at this present time for their want, that their abundance also may become a supply for your want;, that there may be equality:; |
| 8:15 |
as it is written, He thatwho gathered much haddid nothingnot over;have too much, and he thatwho gathered little had no lack. |
| 8:16 |
But thanks be to God, who puttethputs the same earnestearnestness careon foryour youbehalf intoin the heart of Titus. |
| 8:17 |
For he not only accepted indeed our exhortation;appeal, but being himself very earnest, he wenthas forthgone untoto you of his own accord. |
| 8:18 |
And we have sent togetheralong with him the brother whose praisefame in the things of the gospel ishas spread through all the churches; |
| 8:19 |
and not only sothis, but whohe washas also been appointed by the churches to travel with us in thethis mattergracious of this gracework, which is ministeredbeing administered by us tofor the glory of the Lord Himself, and to show our readiness:, |
| 8:20 |
avoidingtaking this, precaution that anyno manone should blamediscredit us in theour matteradministration of this bountygenerous which is ministered by us:gift; |
| 8:21 |
for we takehave thoughtregard for thingswhat is honorable, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. |
| 8:22 |
And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have manyoften timestested provedand earnestfound diligent in many things, but now mucheven more earnestdiligent, bybecause reason of thehis great confidence which he hath in you. |
| 8:23 |
WhetherAs anyfor inquire about Titus, he is my partner and my fellow worker toamong you ward; oras for our brethren, they are the messengers of the churches, theya are the glory ofto Christ. |
| 8:24 |
ShowTherefore yeopenly thereforebefore unto them in the facechurches ofshow thethem churches the proof of your love, and of our gloryingreason onfor yourboasting behalfabout you. |
| 9:1 |
For as touching the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you: about this ministry to the saints; |
| 9:2 |
for I know your readiness, of which I gloryboast onabout youryou behalf to themthe ofMacedonians, Macedonianamely, that Achaia hathhas been prepared forsince alast year, past; and your zeal hathhas stirred up verymost many of them. |
| 9:3 |
But I have sent the brethren, that our gloryingboasting onabout youryou behalf may not be made voidempty in this respect;case, that, even as I saidwas saying, yeyou may be prepared:; |
| 9:4 |
lest byif any means,Macedonians if there come with me any of Macedonia and find you unprepared, we thatnot weto sayspeak not,of yeyou should be put to shame inby this confidence. |
| 9:5 |
So I thought it necessary therefore to entreaturge the brethren, that they would go beforeon untoahead to you, and makearrange up beforehand your aforepromisedpreviously bountypromised bountiful gift, that the same might be ready as a matterbountiful of bountygift, and not ofaffected extortionby covetousness. |
| 9:6 |
ButNow this I say, Hehe thatwho sowethsows sparingly shall also reap also sparingly; and he thatwho sowethsows bountifully shall also reap also bountifully. |
| 9:7 |
Let each manone do accordingjust as he hathhas purposed in his heart:; not grudgingly, or ofunder necessity:compulsion; for God lovethloves a cheerful giver. |
| 9:8 |
And God is able to make all grace abound untoto you;, that ye,always having always all sufficiency in everything, you may aboundhave untoan abundance for every good work:deed; |
| 9:9 |
as it is written, He hath scattered abroad, he hathgave given to the poor;, His righteousness abidethabides for everforever. |
| 9:10 |
AndNow heHe thatwho suppliethsupplies seed to the sower and bread for food, shallwill supply and multiply your seed for sowing, and increase the fruitsharvest of your righteousness:; |
| 9:11 |
yeyou beingwill be enriched in everything untofor all liberality, which worketh through us is producing thanksgiving to God. |
| 9:12 |
For the ministrationministry of this service is not only fillethfully upsupplying the measureneeds of the wants of the saints, but aboundethis also overflowing through many thanksgivings untoto God;. |
| 9:13 |
seeingBecause thatof through the provingproof ofgiven you by this ministrationministry they will glorify God for theyour obedience ofto your confession untoof the gospel of Christ, and for the liberality of your contribution untoto them and untoto all;, |
| 9:14 |
while they themselves also, withby supplicationprayer on your behalf, longyearn afterfor you bybecause reason of the exceedingsurpassing grace of God in you. |
| 9:15 |
Thanks be to God for hisHis unspeakableindescribable gift.! |
| 10:1 |
Now I, Paul, myself entreaturge you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I who inam yourmeek presencewhen amface lowlyto amongface with you, but beingbold absenttoward amyou ofwhen good courage toward you:absent! |
| 10:2 |
yea, I beseechask you, that when I am present I may not whenbe presentbold show courage with the confidence wherewithwith which I countpropose to be boldcourageous against some, who countregard of us as if we walked according to the flesh. |
| 10:3 |
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, |
| 10:4 |
for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mightydivinely beforepowerful Godfor to the castingdestruction down of strongholds;fortresses. |
| 10:5 |
castingWe downare imaginations, destroying speculations and every highlofty thing thatraised isup exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringingwe are taking every thought intocaptive captivity to the obedience of Christ;, |
| 10:6 |
and beingwe inare readinessready to avengepunish all disobedience, whenwhenever your obedience shallis be made fullcomplete. |
| 10:7 |
YeYou lookare looking at the things thatas they are before your faceoutwardly. If anyanyone manis trustethconfident in himself that he is Christs, let him consider this again withwithin himself, that, evenjust as he is Christs, so also are we. |
| 10:8 |
For thougheven if I should gloryboast somewhat abundantlyfurther concerningabout our authority, which the Lord gave for building you up, and not for castingdestroying you down, I shall not be put to shame:, |
| 10:9 |
thatfor I maydo not wish to seem as if I would terrify you by my letters. |
| 10:10 |
For they say, His letters, they say, are weighty and strong;, but his bodilypersonal presence is weakunimpressive, and his speech of no accountcontemptible. |
| 10:11 |
Let such a oneperson reckonconsider this, that, what we are in word by letters when we are absent, such arepersons we are also in deed when we are present. |
| 10:12 |
For we are not bold to numberclass or compare ourselves with certainsome of themthose thatwho commend themselves:; but when they themselves, measure measuring themselves by themselves, and comparingcompare themselves with themselves, they are without understanding. |
| 10:13 |
But we will not gloryboast beyond our measure, but accordingwithin to the measure of the provincesphere which God apportioned to us as a measure, to reach even untoas far as you. |
| 10:14 |
For we stretchare not overextending ourselves overmuch, as thoughif we reacheddid not untoreach to you:, for we camewere the first to come even as far as unto you in the gospel of Christ:; |
| 10:15 |
not gloryingboasting beyond our measure, that is, in other mens labors;, but havingwith the hope that, as your faith growethgrows, we shall be, magnifiedwithin inour yousphere, accordingenlarged toeven ourmore provinceby unto further abundanceyou, |
| 10:16 |
so as to preach the gospel even untoto the partsregions beyond you, and not to gloryboast in anotherswhat provincehas inbeen regardaccomplished ofin thingsthe readysphere toof our handanother. |
| 10:17 |
But he thatwho gloriethboasts, let him gloryboast in the Lord. |
| 10:18 |
For not he thatwho commendethcommends himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendethcommends. |
| 11:1 |
WouldI wish that yeyou couldwould bear with me in a little foolishness:; but indeed yeyou doare bearbearing with me. |
| 11:2 |
For I am jealous overfor you with a godly jealousy:; for I espousedbetrothed you to one husband, that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin to Christ. |
| 11:3 |
But I fearam afraid, lest by any means, as the serpent beguileddeceived Eve inby his craftiness, your minds should be corruptedled astray from the simplicity and the purity thatof isdevotion towardto Christ. |
| 11:4 |
For if heone thatcomes comethand preachethpreaches another Jesus, whom we didhave not preachpreached, or ifyou ye receive a different spirit, which yeyou didhave not receivereceived, or a different gospel, which yeyou didhave not acceptaccepted, yeyou do well to bear withthis himbeautifully. |
| 11:5 |
For I reckonconsider thatmyself Inot amin notthe aleast whitinferior behindto the verymost chiefesteminent apostles. |
| 11:6 |
But thougheven if I beam rudeunskilled in speech, yet I am I not so in knowledge; nayin fact, in every way we have we made this manifestevident untoto you in all things. |
| 11:7 |
Or did I commit a sin in abasinghumbling myself that yeyou might be exalted, because I preached to you the gospel of God forto noughtyou without charge? |
| 11:8 |
I robbed other churches, taking wages offrom them thatto Iserve might minister unto you; |
| 11:9 |
and when I was present with you and was in wantneed, I was not a burden onto any mananyone; for when the brethren, when they came from Macedonia, suppliedthey thefully measuresupplied of my want;need, and in everything I kept myself from being burdensomea untoburden to you, and so will Icontinue keepto myselfdo so. |
| 11:10 |
As the truth of Christ is in me, nothis manboasting shallof stopmine mewill ofnot thisbe gloryingstopped in the regions of Achaia. |
| 11:11 |
WhereforeWhy? becauseBecause I do not love you not? God knoweth.knows I do! |
| 11:12 |
But what I doam doing, that I will continue to do, that I may cut off occasionopportunity from themthose thatwho desire an occasion;opportunity thatto whereinbe theyregarded glory, just theyas maywe beare foundin eventhe asmatter weabout which they are boasting. |
| 11:13 |
For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, fashioningdisguising themselves intoas apostles of Christ. |
| 11:14 |
And no marvel;wonder, for even Satan fashionethdisguises himself intoas an angel of light. |
| 11:15 |
ItTherefore it is nonot greatsurprising thing therefore if his ministersservants also fashiondisguise themselves as ministersservants of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their worksdeeds. |
| 11:16 |
Again I say again, Letlet no manone think me foolish; but if yeyou do, yetreceive me even as foolish receive me, that I also may gloryboast a little. |
| 11:17 |
That which I speakam speaking, I speakam not afterspeaking as the Lord would, but as in foolishness, in this confidence of gloryingboasting. |
| 11:18 |
SeeingSince that many gloryboast afteraccording to the flesh, I will gloryboast also. |
| 11:19 |
For yeyou, being so wise, bear with the foolish gladly, being wise yourselves. |
| 11:20 |
For yeyou bear with aanyone man, if he bringethenslaves you into bondage, if he devourethdevours you, if he takethtakes advantage of you captive, if he exaltethexalts himself, if he smitethhits you onin the face. |
| 11:21 |
ITo speakmy byshame wayI ofmust disparagement, say asthat though we hadhave been weak by comparison. YetBut whereinsoeverin anywhatever respect anyone else is bold I speak in foolishness, I am just as bold alsomyself. |
| 11:22 |
Are they Hebrews? soSo am I. Are they Israelites? soSo am I. Are they thedescendants seed of Abraham? soSo am I. |
| 11:23 |
Are they ministersservants of Christ? I speak as oneif besideinsane himself I more so; in laborsfar more abundantlylabors, in prisonsfar more abundantlyimprisonments, inbeaten stripestimes abovewithout measurenumber, often in deathsdanger oftof death. |
| 11:24 |
OfFive thetimes JewsI fivereceived timesfrom receivedthe IJews fortythirty stripesnine save onelashes. |
| 11:25 |
ThriceThree wastimes I was beaten with rods, once I was I stoned, thricethree times I sufferedwas shipwreckshipwrecked, a night and a day I have Ispent been in the deep;. |
| 11:26 |
inI journeyingshave oftenbeen on frequent journeys, in perilsdangers offrom rivers, indangers perilsfrom of robbers, indangers perils from my countrymen, indangers perils from the Gentiles, indangers perils in the city, indangers perils in the wilderness, indangers perilson in the sea, indangers perils among false brethren; |
| 11:27 |
I have been in labor and travailhardship, inthrough watchingsmany oftensleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, inoften fastingswithout oftenfood, in cold and nakednessexposure. |
| 11:28 |
BesidesApart thosefrom thingssuch thatexternal are withoutthings, there is thatthe whichdaily pressethpressure upon me daily,of anxietyconcern for all the churches. |
| 11:29 |
Who is weak, andwithout Imy ambeing not weak? whoWho is causedled tointo stumble, sin andwithout Imy burnintense notconcern? |
| 11:30 |
If I musthave needsto gloryboast, I will gloryboast of thewhat thingspertains thatto concern my weakness. |
| 11:31 |
The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, heHe who is blessed forforever, evermoreknows knoweth that I lieam not lying. |
| 11:32 |
In Damascus the governorethnarch under Aretas the king guardedwas guarding the city of the Damascenes in order to takeseize me:, |
| 11:33 |
and throughI a window was I let down in a basket bythrough a window in the wall, and so escaped his hands. |
| 12:1 |
IBoasting mustis needs glorynecessary, though it is not expedientprofitable; but I will comego on to visions and revelations of the Lord. |
| 12:2 |
I know a man in Christ, who fourteen years ago whether in the body, I knowdo not; know, or whether out of the body, I knowdo not; know, God knoweth, knows such a oneman was caught up even to the third heaven. |
| 12:3 |
And I know how such a man whether in the body, or apart from the body, I knowdo not; know, God knoweth, knows |
| 12:4 |
how that he was caught up into Paradise, and heard unspeakableinexpressible words, which ita man is not lawfulpermitted for a man to utterspeak. |
| 12:5 |
On behalf of such a oneman will I glory:boast; but on minemy own behalf I will not gloryboast, saveexcept in regard to my weaknesses. |
| 12:6 |
For if I shoulddo desirewish to glory, boast I shall not be foolish;, for I shall speakbe speaking the truth:; but I forbearrefrain from this, lestso anythat manno shouldone accountmay ofcredit me abovewith thatmore whichthan he seethsees in me to be, or hearethhears from me. |
| 12:7 |
And bybecause reason of the exceedingsurpassing greatness of the revelations, thatfor Ithis shouldreason, notto bekeep exaltedme overmuchfrom exalting myself, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, thatto Ikeep shouldme notfrom beexalting exalted overmuch.myself! |
| 12:8 |
Concerning this thing I besoughtentreated the Lord thrice, three times that it might depart from me. |
| 12:9 |
And heHe hathhas said untoto me, My grace is sufficient for thee:you, for my power is madeperfected perfect in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, I will I rather gloryboast inabout my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may restdwell uponin me. |
| 12:10 |
WhereforeTherefore I takeam pleasurewell incontent with weaknesses, inwith injuriesinsults, inwith necessitiesdistresses, inwith persecutions, inwith distressesdifficulties, for Christs sake:; for when I am weak, then I am I strong. |
| 12:11 |
I amhave become foolish:; yeyou yourselves compelled me;. forActually I oughtshould to have been commended ofby you:, for in nothingno respect was I behindinferior to the verymost chiefesteminent apostles, even though I am nothinga nobody. |
| 12:12 |
TrulyThe the signs of ana true apostle were wroughtperformed among you inwith all patienceperseverance, by signs and wonders and mighty worksmiracles. |
| 12:13 |
For in what isrespect therewere whereinyou yetreated wereas made inferior to the rest of the churches, except it be that I myself wasdid not become a burden to you? forgiveForgive me this wrong.! |
| 12:14 |
Behold,Here for this is the third time I am ready to come to you;, and I will not be a burden to you:; for I seekdo not seek what is yours, but you:; for the children oughtare not responsible to laysave up for thetheir parents, but the parents for thetheir children. |
| 12:15 |
And I will most gladly spend and be spentexpended for your souls. If I love you the more abundantly, am I to be loved the less? |
| 12:16 |
But be that as it somay, I did not myself burden you myself; butnevertheless, beingcrafty craftyfellow that I am, I caughttook you within guileby deceit. |
| 12:17 |
DidCertainly I takehave not taken advantage of you bythrough any one of themthose whom I have sent untoto you, have I? |
| 12:18 |
I exhortedurged Titus to go, and I sent the brother with him. Did Titus did not take any advantage of you, did he? walkedDid we not conduct ourselves in the same spirit? walkedand wewalk not in the same steps? |
| 12:19 |
YeAll think all this time you have been thinking that we are excusingdefending ourselves untoto you. InActually, it is in the sight of God speakthat we have been speaking in Christ.; Butand all things, beloved, are for your edifyingupbuilding, beloved. |
| 12:20 |
For I fear,am lestafraid bythat anyperhaps means, when I come, I shouldmay find you to be not suchwhat as I would, wish and shouldmay myself be found ofby you suchto asbe yenot wouldwhat notyou wish; lestthat byperhaps any means there shouldmay be strife, jealousy, wrathsangry tempers, factionsdisputes, backbitingsslanders, whisperingsgossip, swellingsarrogance, tumultsdisturbances; |
| 12:21 |
lestI againam afraid that when I come again my God shouldmay humblehumiliate me before you, and I shouldmay mourn forover many of themthose thatwho have sinned heretofore,in the past and not repented not of the uncleannessimpurity, andimmorality fornication and lasciviousnesssensuality which they committedhave practiced. |
| 13:1 |
This is the third time I am coming to you. AtEvery fact is to be confirmed by the mouthtestimony of two witnesses or three shall every word be establishedwitnesses. |
| 13:2 |
I have previously said beforehand, and I do say beforehand, as when I was present the second time, soand though now, being absent, I say in advance to themthose thatwho have sinned heretofore,in the past and to all the rest as well, that, if I come again, I will not spare; anyone, |
| 13:3 |
seeingsince thatyou yeare seekseeking afor proof of the Christ thatwho speakethspeaks in me;, and who to you ward is not weak toward you, but ismighty powerful in you:. |
| 13:4 |
forFor heindeed He was crucified throughbecause of weakness, yet heHe livethlives throughbecause of the power of God. For we also are weak in himHim, butyet we shall live with himHim throughbecause of the power of God directed toward you. |
| 13:5 |
TryTest youryourselves ownto selves, see whetherif yeyou are in the faith; proveexamine youryourselves! own selves. Or knowdo yeyou not asrecognize tothis yourabout own selvesyourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? unless indeed yeyou befail reprobate.the test? |
| 13:6 |
But I hopetrust that yeyou shallwill knowrealize that we areourselves do not reprobatefail the test. |
| 13:7 |
Now we pray to God that yeyou do no evilwrong; not that we ourselves may appear approved, but that yeyou may do thatwhat which is honorableright, even though we beshould asappear reprobateunapproved. |
| 13:8 |
For we can do nothing against the truth, but only for the truth. |
| 13:9 |
For we rejoice, when we ourselves are weak, andbut yeyou are strong:; this we also pray for, eventhat youryou perfectingbe made complete. |
| 13:10 |
For this causereason I writeam writing these things while absent, in order that when present I may not whenuse presentseverity, dealin sharply, accordance accordingwith to the authority which the Lord gave me, for building up, and not for castingtearing down. |
| 13:11 |
Finally, brethren, farewell.rejoice, Bebe perfected;made complete, be comforted;, be oflike theminded, same mind; live in peace:; and the God of love and peace shall be with you. |
| 13:12 |
SaluteGreet one another with a holy kiss. |
| 13:13 |
All the saints salutegreet you. |
| 13:14 |
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communionfellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. |
