2:25 If one man sinsins against another, God shallwill judgemediate for him; but if a man sinsins against Jehovahthe Lord, who shallcan entreatintercede for him? Notwithstanding,But they hearkenedwould not untolisten to the voice of their father, becausefor Jehovahthe wasLord mindeddesired to slayput them to death.
2:26 AndNow the childboy Samuel grewwas on,growing in stature and increased in favor both with Jehovah, the Lord and also with men.
2:27 AndThen there came a man of God untocame to Eli, and said untoto him, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, Did I not indeed reveal myselfMyself untoto the house of thyyour father, when they were in Egypt in bondage to Pharaohs house?
2:28 andAnd did I not choose himthem outfrom of all the tribes of Israel to be myMy priestpriests, to go up untoto mineMy altar, to burn incense, to wearcarry an ephod before me?Me; and did I not give untoto the house of thyyour father all the fire offerings of the childrensons of Israel made by fire?
2:29 WhereforeWhy do you kick ye at myMy sacrifice and at mineMy offering, which I have commanded in myMy habitationdwelling, and honoresthonor thyyour sons above meMe, toby makemaking yourselves fat with the chiefestchoicest of allevery theoffering offerings of IsraelMy mypeople peopleIsrael?
2:30 Therefore Jehovah, the Lord God of Israel, saithdeclares, I saiddid indeed say that thyyour house, and the house of thyyour father, should walk before meMe forforever; ever: but now Jehovahthe saithLord declares, BeFar be it far from me;Me for themthose thatwho honor meMe I will honor, and theythose thatwho despise meMe shallwill be lightly esteemed.
2:31 Behold, the days come, are thatcoming when I will cutbreak offyour thinestrength arm, and the armstrength of thyyour fathers house, so that there shallwill not be an old man in thyyour house.
2:32 And thouyou shaltwill beholdsee the afflictiondistress of myMy habitationdwelling, in spite of all thethat wealthI whichdo Godgood shallfor give Israel; and therean shallold man will not be an old man in thyyour house for everforever.
2:33 AndYet theI manwill ofnot thine, cut whomoff Ievery shallman notof cutyours off from mineMy altar, shallthat beyour toeyes consumemay thinefail eyes, from weeping and toyour soul grieve, thy heart; and all the increase of thyyour house shallwill die in the flowerprime of their agelife.
2:34 And this shallwill be the sign untoto thee, you thatwhich shall come uponconcerning thyyour two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas: inon onethe same day they shall die both of them shall die.

3:1 AndNow the childboy Samuel ministeredwas untoministering Jehovahto the Lord before Eli. And the word offrom Jehovahthe Lord was preciousrare in those days;, therevisions waswere no frequent visioninfrequent.
3:2 And it camehappened to pass at that time, whenas Eli was laidlying down in his place now his eyeseyesight had begun to waxgrow dim, soand that he could not see well,
3:3 and the lamp of God washad not yet gone out, and Samuel was laidlying down to sleep, in the temple of Jehovah, the Lord where the ark of God was;,
3:4 that Jehovahthe Lord called Samuel:; and he said, Here I am I.
3:5 AndThen he ran untoto Eli, and said, Here I am, I; for thouyou calledstcalled me. AndBut he said, I calleddid not; call, lie down again. AndSo he went and lay down.
3:6 And Jehovahthe Lord called yet again, Samuel.! AndSo Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here I am, I; for thouyou calledstcalled me. AndBut he answered, I calleddid not call, my son;, lie down again.
3:7 Now Samuel did not yet know Jehovahthe Lord, neithernor washad the word of Jehovahthe Lord yet been revealed untoto him.
3:8 AndSo Jehovahthe Lord called Samuel again for the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here I am, I; for thouyou calledstcalled me. AndThen Eli perceiveddiscerned that Jehovahthe hadLord calledwas calling the childboy.
3:9 ThereforeAnd Eli said untoto Samuel, Go, lie down:, and it shall be, if heHe callcalls theeyou, that thouyou shaltshall say, Speak, Jehovah;Lord, for thyThy servant hearethis listening. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
3:10 AndThen Jehovahthe Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel,! Samuel.! ThenAnd Samuel said, Speak;, for thyThy servant hearethis listening.
3:11 And Jehovahthe Lord said to Samuel, Behold, I willam about to do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of everyeveryone onewho thathears heareth it shallwill tingle.
3:12 In that day I will performcarry out against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from the beginning evento unto the end.
3:13 For I have told him that I willam about to judge his house forforever ever, for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons didbrought bring a curse uponon themselves, and he restraineddid not rebuke them not.
3:14 And therefore I have sworn untoto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Elis house shall not be expiatedatoned withfor by sacrifice noror offering for everforever.
3:15 AndSo Samuel lay down until the morning,. andThen he opened the doors of the house of Jehovahthe Lord. AndBut Samuel fearedwas afraid to showtell Eli the vision to Eli.
3:16 Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he said, Here I am I.
3:17 And he said, What is the thingword that JehovahHe hathspoke spokento unto theeyou? IPlease praydo thee, not hide it not from me:. May God do so to theeyou, and more also, if thouyou hide anything from me of all the thingswords that heHe spakespoke untoto theeyou.
3:18 AndSo Samuel told him everyeverything whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is Jehovah:the Lord; let himHim do what seemethseems himgood goodto Him.
3:19 AndThus Samuel grew, and Jehovahthe Lord was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the groundfail.
3:20 And all Israel from Dan even to BeerBeersheba sheba knew that Samuel was establishedconfirmed toas be a prophet of Jehovahthe Lord.
3:21 And Jehovahthe Lord appeared again inat Shiloh;, forbecause Jehovahthe Lord revealed himselfHimself to Samuel inat Shiloh by the word of Jehovahthe Lord.
4:1 AndThus the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out againstto meet the Philistines toin battle, and encampedcamped beside EbenEbenezer ezer:while and the Philistines encampedcamped in Aphek.
4:2 And the Philistines putdrew themselvesup in battle array againstto meet Israel:. andWhen whenthe theybattle joined battlespread, Israel was smittendefeated before the Philistines; andwho theykilled slewabout offour thethousand armymen inon the field about four thousand menbattlefield.
4:3 AndWhen when the people werecame come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, WhereforeWhy hathhas Jehovahthe smittenLord defeated us totoday day before the Philistines? Let us fetchtake to ourselves from Shiloh the ark of the covenant of Jehovahthe out of Shiloh unto usLord, that it may come among us, and savedeliver us outfrom of the handpower of our enemies.
4:4 So the people sent to Shiloh;, and theyfrom broughtthere fromthey thencecarried the ark of the covenant of Jehovahthe Lord of hosts, who sittethsits above the cherubim:; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.
4:5 And whenit happened as the ark of the covenant of Jehovahthe Lord came into the camp, that all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang againresounded.
4:6 And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, What meanethdoes the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews mean? AndThen they understood that the ark of Jehovahthe wasLord had come into the camp.
4:7 And the Philistines were afraid, for they said, God ishas come into the camp. And they said, Woe untoto us! forFor therenothing hathlike notthis beenhas suchhappened a thing heretoforebefore.
4:8 Woe untoto us! whoWho shall deliver us outfrom of the hand of these mighty gods? theseThese are the gods thatwho smote the Egyptians with all mannerkinds of plagues in the wilderness.
4:9 BeTake strong, courage and quitbe yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, thatlest yeyou bebecome notslaves servantsto unto the Hebrews, as they have been slaves to you:; quittherefore, yourselvesbe like men, and fight.
4:10 AndSo the Philistines fought, and Israel was smittendefeated, and they fled every man fled to his tent:, and therethe slaughter was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmenfoot soldiers.
4:11 And the ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slaindied.
4:12 AndNow there ran a man of Benjamin outran offrom the army, battle line and came to Shiloh the same day, with his clothes rent, torn and withdust earthon upon his head.
4:13 AndWhen when he came, lobehold, Eli was sitting uponon his seat by the waysideroad eagerly watching;, forbecause his heart trembledwas trembling for the ark of God. AndSo when the man came intoto tell it in the city, and told it, all the city cried out.
4:14 AndWhen when Eli heard the noise of the cryingoutcry, he said, What meanethdoes the noise of this tumultcommotion mean? AndThen the man hasted, came andhurriedly came and told Eli.
4:15 Now Eli was ninety and eight years old;, and his eyes were set, so that he could not see.
4:16 And the man said untoto Eli, I am hethe thatone who came outfrom of the armybattle line. Indeed, and I fledescaped tofrom daythe outbattle ofline the armytoday. And he said, How wentdid thethings mattergo, my son?
4:17 AndThen hethe thatone who brought the tidingsnews answered and said, Israel ishas fled before the Philistines, and there hathhas also been also a great slaughter among the people, and thyyour two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God ishas been taken.
4:18 And it came toabout pass, when he madementioned mention of the ark of God, that Eli fell from off histhe seat backward bybeside the side of the gate;, and his neck brake, was broken and he died:, for he was an old man, and heavy. AndThus he had judged Israel forty years.
4:19 AndNow his daughter in law, Phinehas wife, was withpregnant child, and nearabout to begive delivered:birth; and when she heard the tidingsnews that the ark of God was taken, and that her father in law and her husband werehad deaddied, she bowedkneeled herselfdown and broughtgave forth;birth, for her pains came upon her.
4:20 And about the time of her death the women thatwho stood by her said untoto her, FearDo not; be afraid, for thouyou hasthave broughtgiven forthbirth to a son. But she answereddid not, neitheranswer didor shepay regard itattention.
4:21 And she namedcalled the childboy Ichabod, saying, The glory ishas departed from Israel;, because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father in law and her husband.
4:22 And she said, The glory ishas departed from Israel;, for the ark of God iswas taken.
5:1 Now the Philistines hadtook taken the ark of God, and they brought it from EbenEbenezer ezerto unto Ashdod.
5:2 AndThen the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it intoto the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.
5:3 AndWhen whenthe theyAshdodites of Ashdod arose early on the morrownext morning, behold, Dagon washad fallen uponon his face to the ground before the ark of Jehovahthe Lord. AndSo they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.
5:4 AndBut when they arose early on the morrownext morning, behold, Dagon washad fallen uponon his face to the ground before the ark of Jehovah;the andLord. And the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands laywere cut off uponon the threshold; only the stumptrunk of Dagon was left to him.
5:5 Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor anyall thatwho comeenter into Dagons house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod, untoto this day.
5:6 ButNow the hand of Jehovahthe Lord was heavy uponon themthe of AshdodAshdodites, and heHe destroyedravaged them, and smote them with tumors, evenboth Ashdod and theits borders thereofterritories.
5:7 AndWhen when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shallmust not abideremain with us;, for hisHis hand is soresevere uponon us, and uponon Dagon our god.
5:8 TheySo they sent therefore and gathered all the Lords of the Philistines untoto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answeredsaid, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carriedbrought aboutaround untoto Gath. And they carriedbrought the ark of the God of Israel thitheraround.
5:9 And it wascame so,about that, after they had carriedbrought it aboutaround, the hand of Jehovahthe Lord was against the city with a very great discomfiture:confusion; and heHe smote the men of the city, both smallyoung and great;old, andso that tumors brakebroke out uponon them.
5:10 So they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it camehappened to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel around to us, to slaykill us and our people.
5:11 They sent therefore and gathered together all the Lords of the Philistines, and they said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it goreturn again to its own place, that it slaymay not kill us not, and our people. For there was a deadly discomfitureconfusion throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.
5:12 And the men thatwho dieddid not die were smitten with the tumors; and the cry of the city went up to heaven.
6:1 AndNow the ark of Jehovahthe wasLord had been in the country of the Philistines seven months.
6:2 And the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners, saying, What shall we do with the ark of Jehovahthe Lord? showTell us wherewithhow we shall send it to its place.
6:3 And they said, If yeyou send away the ark of the God of Israel, do not send it not empty; but byyou allshall meanssurely return himto Him a trespassguilt offering:. thenThen yeyou shall be healed, and it shall be known to you why hisHis hand is not removed from you.
6:4 Then they said they, What shall be the trespassguilt offering which we shall return to himHim? And they said, Five golden tumors, and five golden mice, according to the number of the Lords of the Philistines;, for one plague was on all of you all, and on your Lords.
6:5 WhereforeSo yeyou shall make imageslikenesses of your tumors, and imageslikenesses of your mice that marravage the land;, and yeyou shall give glory untoto the God of Israel:; peradventureperhaps heHe will lightenease hisHis hand from off you, and from off your gods, and from off your land.
6:6 WhereforeWhy then do yeyou harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? When heHe had wroughtseverely wonderfullydealt amongwith them, did they not letallow the people to go, and they departed?
6:7 Now therefore take and prepare you a new cart, and two milch kine, cows on which there hathhas comenever nobeen a yoke; and tiehitch the kinecows to the cart, and bringtake their calves home, away from them;.
6:8 andAnd take the ark of Jehovah, the Lord and layplace it uponon the cart; and put the jewelsarticles of gold, which yeyou return himto forHim as a trespassguilt offering, in a cofferbox by theits side. thereof; Then and send it away, that it may go.
6:9 And see;watch, if it goethgoes up by the way of its own borderterritory to Beth shemesh, then heHe hathhas done us this great evil:. butBut if not, then we shall know that it iswas not hisHis hand that smotestruck us; it was a chance that happened to us by chance.
6:10 AndThen the men did so, and took two milch kine, cows and tiedhitched them to the cart, and shut up their calves at home;.
6:11 andAnd they put the ark of Jehovahthe uponLord on the cart, and the cofferbox with the golden mice of gold and the imageslikenesses of their tumors.
6:12 And the kinecows took the straight way byin the waydirection toof Beth shemesh; they went along the highway, lowing as they went, and turneddid not turn aside to the right hand or to the left;. andAnd the Lords of the Philistines wentfollowed after them untoto the border of Beth shemesh.
6:13 AndNow theythe people of Beth shemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley;, and they liftedraised up their eyes, and saw the ark, and rejoicedwere glad to see it.
6:14 And the cart came into the field of Joshua the Beth shemite, and stood there, where there was a greatlarge stone:; and they clavesplit the wood of the cart, and offered up the kinecows foras a burnt offering untoto Jehovahthe Lord.
6:15 And the Levites took down the ark of Jehovah, the Lord and the cofferbox that was with it, whereinin which were the jewelsarticles of gold were, and put them on the greatlarge stone:; and the men of Beth shemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices thethat same day untoto Jehovahthe Lord.
6:16 And when the five Lords of the Philistines hadsaw seen it, they returned to Ekron thethat same day.
6:17 And these are the golden tumors which the Philistines returned for a trespassguilt offering untoto Jehovahthe Lord: one for Ashdod, one, for Gaza, one, for Ashkelon, one, for Gath, one, for Ekron one;
6:18 and the golden mice, according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five Lords, both of fortified cities and of country villages,. evenThe untolarge thestone greaton stone, which whereon they set down the ark of Jehovah, the whichLord stoneis remainetha untowitness to this day in the field of Joshua the Beth shemite.
6:19 And heHe smotestruck down some of the men of Beth shemesh, because they had looked into the ark of Jehovah, the heLord. smoteHe struck down of all the people, seventy50,070 men, and fifty thousand men; and the people mourned, because Jehovahthe Lord had smittenstruck the people with a great slaughter.
6:20 And the men of Beth shemesh said, Who is able to stand before Jehovahthe Lord, this holy God? andAnd to whom shall heHe go up from us?
6:21 AndSo they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kiriath jearim, saying, The Philistines have brought back the ark of Jehovahthe Lord; come ye down, and fetchtake it up to you.
7:1 And the men of Kiriath jearim came, and fetchedtook up the ark of Jehovah, the Lord and brought it into the house of Abinadab inon the hill, and sanctifiedconsecrated Eleazar his son to keep the ark of Jehovahthe Lord.
7:2 And it came toabout pass, from the day that the ark aboderemained inat Kiriath jearim, that the time was long;, for it was twenty years:; and all the house of Israel lamented after Jehovahthe Lord.
7:3 AndThen Samuel spakespoke untoto all the house of Israel, saying, If yeyou do return untoto Jehovahthe Lord with all your heart, thenremove put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you, and direct your hearts untoto Jehovah, the Lord and serve himHim onlyalone; and heHe will deliver you outfrom of the hand of the Philistines.
7:4 ThenSo the childrensons of Israel didremoved put away the BaalimBaals and the Ashtaroth, and served Jehovahthe onlyLord alone.
7:5 AndThen Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray to the Lord for you unto Jehovah.
7:6 And they gathered together to Mizpah, and drew water, and poured it out before Jehovahthe Lord, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against Jehovahthe Lord. And Samuel judged the childrensons of Israel inat Mizpah.
7:7 AndNow when the Philistines heard that the childrensons of Israel werehad gathered together to Mizpah, the Lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the childrensons of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.
7:8 AndThen the childrensons of Israel said to Samuel, CeaseDo not cease to cry untoto Jehovahthe Lord our God for us, that heHe willmay save us outfrom of the hand of the Philistines.
7:9 And Samuel took a suckingsuckling lamb, and offered it for a whole burnt offering untoto Jehovah:the Lord; and Samuel cried untoto Jehovahthe Lord for Israel; and Jehovahthe Lord answered him.
7:10 AndNow as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, and the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel;. butBut Jehovahthe Lord thundered with a great thunder on that day uponagainst the Philistines, and discomfitedconfused them;, andso that they were smittenrouted down before Israel.
7:11 And the men of Israel went out of Mizpah, and pursued the Philistines, and smotestruck them, untildown theyas camefar underas below Beth car.
7:12 Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and callednamed the name of it Eben ezerEbenezer, saying, HithertoThus hathfar Jehovahthe Lord has helped us.
7:13 So the Philistines were subdued, and they camedid nonot morecome anymore within the border of Israel:. andAnd the hand of Jehovahthe Lord was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.
7:14 And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even untoto Gath; and theIsrael borderdelivered thereoftheir didterritory Israelfrom deliver out of the hand of the Philistines. AndSo there was peace between Israel and the Amorites.
7:15 AndNow Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.
7:16 And he wentused fromto yeargo toannually yearon in circuit to BethBethel el, and Gilgal, and Mizpah;, and he judged Israel in all thosethese places.
7:17 AndThen his return was to Ramah, for therehis house was histhere, house; and there he judged Israel:; and he built there an altar untoto Jehovahthe Lord.
8:1 And it came toabout pass, when Samuel was old, that he madeappointed his sons judges over Israel.
8:2 Now the name of his first born was Joel;, and the name of his second, Abijah:; they were judgesjudging in Beer shebaBeersheba.
8:3 AndHis his sons, walkedhowever, did not walk in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, dishonest gain and took bribes, and perverted justice.
8:4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel untoat Ramah;
8:5 and they said untoto him, Behold, thouyou arthave grown old, and thyyour sons walkdo not walk in thyyour ways:. nowNow makeappoint us a king for us to judge us like all the nations.
8:6 But the thing displeasedwas displeasing in the sight of Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed untoto Jehovahthe Lord.
8:7 And Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Samuel, HearkenListen untoto the voice of the people in regard to all that they say untoto thee;you, for they have not rejected theeyou, but they have rejected me,Me thatfrom Ibeing should not be king over them.
8:8 AccordingLike to all the worksdeeds which they have done since the day that I brought them up outfrom of Egypt even untoto this day, in that they have forsaken me,Me and served other gods, so do they alsoare untodoing theeto you also.
8:9 Now thereforethen, hearkenlisten untoto their voice:; howbeithowever, thouyou shaltshall protest solemnly untowarn them, and shalttell show them of the mannerprocedure of the king thatwho shallwill reign over them.
8:10 AndSo Samuel toldspoke all the words of Jehovahthe untoLord to the people thatwho had asked of him a king.
8:11 And he said, This will be the mannerprocedure of the king thatwho shallwill reign over you: he will take your sons, and appointplace them untofor him, himself forin his chariots, and toamong be his horsemen; and they shallwill run before his chariots;.
8:12 andAnd he will appoint themfor untohimself himcommanders for captains of thousands, and captains of fifties;, and he will set some to plowdo his ground, plowing and to reap his harvest, and to make his instrumentsweapons of war, and theequipment instrumentsfor of his chariots.
8:13 AndHe he will also take your daughters tofor be perfumers, and to be cooks, and to be bakers.
8:14 And he will take the best of your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, olive even the best of themgroves, and give them to his servants.
8:15 And he will take thea tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants.
8:16 AndHe he will also take your menmale servants, and your maidfemale servants, and your goodliestbest young men, and your assesdonkeys, and putuse them tofor his work.
8:17 He will take thea tenth of your flocks:, and yeyou shallyourselves bewill become his servants.
8:18 AndThen yeyou shallwill cry out in that day because of your king whom yeyou shall have chosen you;for andyourselves, Jehovahbut the Lord will not answer you in that day.
8:19 ButNevertheless, the people refused to hearkenlisten untoto the voice of Samuel;, and they said, Nay:No, but wethere willshall havebe a king over us,
8:20 that we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.
8:21 AndNow after Samuel had heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsedrepeated them in the earsLords of Jehovahhearing.
8:22 And Jehovahthe Lord said to Samuel, HearkenListen untoto their voice, and makeappoint them a king. AndSo Samuel said untoto the men of Israel, Go ye every man untoto his city.
9:1 Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Becorath, the son of Aphiah, the son of a Benjamite, a mighty man of valor.
9:2 And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a youngchoice man and ahandsome goodly:man, and there was not amonga themore childrenhandsome ofperson Israelthan ahe goodlieramong personthe thansons he:of Israel; from his shoulders and upwardup he was highertaller than any of the people.
9:3 AndNow the assesdonkeys of Kish, Sauls father, were lost. AndSo Kish said to Saul his son Saul, Take now with you one of the servants with thee, and arise, go seeksearch for the assesdonkeys.
9:4 And he passed through the hill country of Ephraim, and passed through the land of Shalishah, but they founddid not find them. not:Then then they passed through the land of Shaalim, andbut there they were not: andthere. Then he passed through the land of the Benjamites, but they founddid not find them not.
9:5 When they werecame come to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant thatwho was with him, Come, and let us return, lest my father leavecease offto caringbe forconcerned about the asses, donkeys and bebecome anxious for us.
9:6 And he said untoto him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God in this city, and hethe is a man that is held in honor; all that he saithsays cometh surely tocomes pass:true. nowNow let us go thither;there, peradventureperhaps he can tell us concerningabout our journey whereonon which we gohave set out.
9:7 Then Saul said Saul to his servant, But, behold, if we go, what shall we bring the man? forFor the bread is spentgone infrom our vessels, sack and there is notno a present to bring to the man of God:. whatWhat havedo we have?
9:8 And the servant answered Saul again, and said, Behold, I have in my hand thea fourth part of a shekel of silver:; thatI will I give it to the man of God, toand he will tell us our way.
9:9 BeforetimeFormerly in Israel, when a man went to inquire of God, thus he saidused to say, Come, and let us go to the seer; for he thatwho is now called a Prophetprophet now was beforetimeformerly called a Seerseer.
9:10 Then Saul said Saul to his servant, Well said; come, let us go. So they went untoto the city where the man of God was.
9:11 As they went up the ascentslope to the city, they found young maidenswomen going out to draw water, and said untoto them, Is the seer here?
9:12 And they answered them, and said, He is; beholdsee, he is beforeahead thee:of makeyou. hasteHurry now, for he ishas come to day into the city; today, for the people have a sacrifice toon day in the high place today.
9:13 As soon as yeyou areenter come into the city, yeyou shallwill straightway find him, before he goethgoes up to the high place to eat;, for the people will not eat until he comecomes, because he dothmust bless the sacrifice; andafterward afterwardsthose theywho eatare thatinvited arewill biddeneat. Now therefore, getgo you up; for atyou thiswill timefind yehim shallat find himonce.
9:14 AndSo they went up to the city;. andAs as they came withininto the city, behold, Samuel camewas coming out toward them, to go up to the high place.
9:15 Now Jehovaha hadday revealedbefore untoSauls Samuelcoming, athe dayLord beforehad Saulrevealed came, this to Samuel saying,
9:16 ToAbout morrow about this time tomorrow I will send theeyou a man outfrom of the land of Benjamin, and thouyou shaltshall anoint him to be prince over myMy people Israel; and he shall savedeliver myMy people outfrom of the hand of the Philistines:. forFor I have lookedregarded uponMy my people, because their cry ishas come untoto meMe.
9:17 AndWhen when Samuel saw Saul, Jehovahthe Lord said untoto him, Behold, the man of whom I spakespoke to theeyou! thisThis sameone shall haverule authority over myMy people.
9:18 Then Saul drewapproached near to Samuel in the gate, and said, TellPlease tell me, I pray thee, where the seers house is.
9:19 And Samuel answered Saul, and said, I am the seer;. goGo up before me untoto the high place, for yeyou shall eat with me totoday; day: and in the morning I will let theeyou go, and will tell theeyou all that is inon thyyour heartmind.
9:20 And as for thineyour assesdonkeys thatwhich were lost three days ago, setdo not thyset your mind on them;, for they arehave been found. And for whom is all that is desirable in Israel? Is it not for thee, you and for all thyyour fathers househousehold?
9:21 And Saul answered and said, Am I not I a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel?, and my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? whereforeWhy then speakestdo thouyou speak to me afterin this mannerway?
9:22 AndThen Samuel took Saul and his servant, and brought them into the guest chamberhall, and madegave them sita inplace at the chiefesthead placeof amongthose themwho that were biddeninvited, who were about thirty personsmen.
9:23 And Samuel said untoto the cook, Bring the portion whichthat I gave theeyou, ofconcerning which I said untoto theeyou, Set it by theeaside.
9:24 AndThen the cook took up the thigh, leg andwith thatwhat which was uponon it, and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, Behold,Here thatis whichwhat hathhas been reserved! setSet it before theeyou and eat;, because untoit thehas appointedbeen timekept hathfor ityou beenuntil keptthe forappointed theetime, forsince I said, I have invited the people. So Saul didate eat with Samuel that day.
9:25 AndWhen when they werecame come down from the high place into the city, heSamuel communedspoke with Saul uponon the housetoproof.
9:26 And they arose early:; and it came to pass about theat springdaybreak of the day, that Samuel called to Saul on the housetoproof, saying, UpGet up, that I may send theeyou away. AndSo Saul arose, and theyboth wenthe outand bothSamuel ofwent them, out heinto andthe Samuel, abroadstreet.
9:27 As they were going down atto the endedge of the city, Samuel said to Saul, BidSay to the servant passthat onhe beforemight go ahead of us and hepass passed on, but standyou thouremain stillstanding firstnow, that I may causeproclaim thee to hear the word of God to you.
10:1 Then Samuel took the vialflask of oil, and poured it uponon his head, and kissed him, and said, IsHas it not thatthe JehovahLord hath anointed theeyou toa beruler prince over hisHis inheritance?
10:2 When thouyou artgo departed from me to daytoday, then thouyou shaltwill find two men byclose to Rachels sepulchre, tomb in the borderterritory of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say untoto theeyou, The assesdonkeys which thouyou wentestwent to seeklook arefor have been found;. and,Now lobehold, thyyour father hathhas leftceased offto caringbe forconcerned about the asses, donkeys and is anxious for you, saying, What shall I do forabout my son?
10:3 Then shaltyou thouwill go on forwardfurther from thencethere, and thouyou shaltwill come toas far as the oak of Tabor;, and there shall meet thee there three men going up to God toat BethBethel elwill meet you, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottlejug of wine:;
10:4 and they will salutegreet thee, you and give theeyou two loaves of bread, which thouyou shaltwill receiveaccept offrom their hand.
10:5 AfterAfterward thatyou thouwill shalt come to the hill of God, where is the Philistine garrison ofis; the Philistines: and it shall comebe toas pass, soon whenas thouyou arthave come thitherthere to the city, that thouyou shaltwill meet a bandgroup of prophets coming down from the high place with a psalteryharp, and a timbreltambourine, and a pipeflute, and a harp, lyre before them;, and they will be prophesying:.
10:6 andThen the Spirit of Jehovahthe Lord will come mightily upon theeyou mightily, and thouyou shaltshall prophesy with them, and shalt be turnedchanged into another man.
10:7 And let it shall be, when these signs are come untoto theeyou, thatdo thoufor doyourself aswhat the occasion shall serve theerequires; for God is with theeyou.
10:8 And thouyou shaltshall go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down untoto thee, you to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings:. sevenYou daysshall shaltwait thouseven tarry, days tilluntil I come untoto thee, you and show theeyou what thouyou shaltshould do.
10:9 AndThen it washappened so, that, when he had turned his back to goleave from Samuel, God gavechanged himhis another heart:; and all those signs came toabout passon that day.
10:10 AndWhen when they came thither to the hill there, behold, a bandgroup of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came mightily upon him mightily, andso that he prophesied among them.
10:11 And it came to passabout, when all thatwho knew him beforetimepreviously saw that, behold, he prophesied now with the prophets, thenthat the people said to one to another, What ishas thishappened thatto is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?
10:12 And onea ofman thethere same place answered and said, AndNow, who is their father? Therefore it became a proverb,: Is Saul also among the prophets?
10:13 AndWhen when he had madefinished an end of prophesying, he came to the high place.
10:14 AndNow Sauls uncle said untoto him and to his servant, WhitherWhere wentdid yeyou go? And he said, To seeklook for the asses;donkeys. andWhen when we saw that they werecould not be found, we camewent to Samuel.
10:15 And Sauls uncle said, TellPlease tell me, I pray thee, what Samuel said untoto you.
10:16 AndSo Saul said untoto his uncle, He told us plainly that the assesdonkeys werehad been found. But concerninghe did not tell him about the matter of the kingdom, whereofwhich Samuel spake, had he told him notmentioned.
10:17 AndThereafter Samuel called the people together untoto Jehovahthe toLord at Mizpah;
10:18 and he said untoto the childrensons of Israel, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel, I brought up Israel outup offrom Egypt, and I delivered you outfrom of the hand of the Egyptians, and outfrom of the handpower of all the kingdoms that oppressedwere oppressing you:.
10:19 butBut yeyou havetoday this day rejected your God, who himselfdelivers saveth you outfrom of all your calamities and your distresses; andyet yeyou have said unto him, NayNo, but set a king over us.! Now therefore, present yourselves before Jehovahthe Lord by your tribes, and by your thousandsclans.
10:20 SoThus Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel near, and the tribe of Benjamin was taken by lot.
10:21 AndThen he brought the tribe of Benjamin near by theirits families;, and the Matrite family of the Matrites was taken;. andAnd Saul the son of Kish was taken:; but when they soughtlooked for him, he could not be found.
10:22 Therefore they askedinquired further of Jehovahthe furtherLord, IsHas therethe yet a man to come hitherhere yet? AndSo Jehovahthe answeredLord said, Behold, he hathis hidhiding himself amongby the baggage.
10:23 AndSo they ran and fetchedtook him thence;from there, and when he stood among the people, he was highertaller than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.
10:24 And Samuel said to all the people, SeeDo yeyou see him whom Jehovahthe hathLord has chosen,? thatSurely there is noneno one like him among all the people?. AndSo all the people shouted, and said, Long live the king.!
10:25 Then Samuel told the people the mannerordinances of the kingdom, and wrote itthem in athe book, and laidplaced it up before Jehovahthe Lord. And Samuel sent all the people away, everyeach manone to his house.
10:26 And Saul also went to his house toat Gibeah; and therethe wentvaliant withmen him the host, whose hearts God had touched went with him.
10:27 But certain worthless fellowsmen said, How shallcan this manone savedeliver us? And they despised him, and broughtdid not bring him noany present. But he heldkept his peacesilent.
11:1 ThenNow Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encampedbesieged against Jabesh gilead:; and all the men of Jabesh said untoto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve theeyou.
11:2 AndBut Nahash the Ammonite said untoto them, OnI this condition will I make it with you on this condition, that allI yourwill gouge out the right eyeseye beof putevery out;one andof you, thus I will laymake it for a reproach uponon all Israel.
11:3 And the elders of Jabesh said untoto him, GiveLet us alone for seven days respite, that we may send messengers untothroughout all the bordersterritory of Israel;. and thenThen, if there beis noneno one to savedeliver us, we will come out to theeyou.
11:4 Then came the messengers came to Gibeah of Saul, and spakespoke these words in the earshearing of the people:, and all the people lifted up their voice, voices and wept.
11:5 And,Now behold, Saul camewas followingcoming from the oxenfield outbehind of the fieldoxen; and Saulhe said, What ailethis the matter with the people that they weep? AndSo they toldrelated to him the words of the men of Jabesh.
11:6 AndThen the Spirit of God came mightily upon Saul mightily when he heard thosethese words, and hishe angerbecame wasvery kindled greatlyangry.
11:7 And he took a yoke of oxen, and cut them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the bordersterritory of Israel by the hand of messengers, saying, WhosoeverWhoever comethdoes not forthcome out after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done untoto his oxen. AndThen the dread of Jehovahthe Lord fell on the people, and they came out as one man.
11:8 And he numbered them in Bezek; and the childrensons of Israel were three hundred thousand300,000, and the men of Judah thirty thousand30,000.
11:9 And they said untoto the messengers thatwho camehad come, Thus you shall ye say untoto the men of Jabesh gilead, To morrowTomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, yeyou shall have deliverance. AndSo the messengers camewent and told the men of Jabesh; and they were glad.
11:10 ThereforeThen the men of Jabesh said, ToTomorrow morrow we will come out untoto you, and yeyou shallmay do withto us allwhatever thatseems seemeth good untoto you.
11:11 And it washappened sothe onnext themorning morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the camp inat the morning watch, and smotestruck down the Ammonites until the heat of the day:. andAnd it came toabout pass, that theythose thatwho remainedsurvived were scattered, so that notno two of them were left together.
11:12 AndThen the people said untoto Samuel, Who is he that said, Shall Saul reign over us? bringBring the men, that we may put them to death.
11:13 AndBut Saul said, ThereNot shall not a man shall be put to death this day;, for totoday daythe JehovahLord hathhas wroughtaccomplished deliverance in Israel.
11:14 Then Samuel said Samuel to the people, Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.
11:15 AndSo all the people went to Gilgal;, and there they made Saul king before Jehovahthe Lord in Gilgal;. andThere there they also offered sacrifices of peace offerings before Jehovahthe Lord; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.
12:1 AndThen Samuel said untoto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkenedlistened untoto your voice in all that yeyou said untoto me, and I have madeappointed a king over you.
12:2 And now, behold, here is the king walkethwalking before you;, andbut I am old and grayheaded;gray, and, behold, my sons are with you:. andAnd I have walked before you from my youth untoeven to this day.
12:3 Here I am:; bear witness against me before Jehovah, the Lord and beforeHis his anointed:. whoseWhose ox have I taken?, or whose assdonkey have I taken?, or whom have I defrauded? whomWhom have I oppressed?, or offrom whose hand have I taken a ransombribe to blind minemy eyes therewithwith it? and I will restore it to you.
12:4 And they said, ThouYou hasthave not defrauded us, noror oppressed us, neitheror hast thou taken aughtanything offrom any mans hand.
12:5 And he said untoto them, JehovahThe Lord is witness against you, and hisHis anointed is witness this day, that yeyou have not found aughtnothing in my hand. And they said, He is witness.
12:6 AndThen Samuel said untoto the people, It is Jehovahthe thatLord who appointed Moses and Aaron, and thatwho brought your fathers up outfrom of the land of Egypt.
12:7 NowSo thereforenow, take your stand still, that I may plead with you before Jehovahthe Lord concerning all the righteous acts of Jehovah, the Lord which heHe did tofor you and to your fathers.
12:8 When Jacob waswent come into Egypt, and your fathers cried untoout Jehovahto the Lord, then Jehovahthe Lord sent Moses and Aaron, who brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and madesettled them to dwell in this place.
12:9 But they forgatforgot Jehovahthe Lord their God;, andso heHe sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the hostarmy of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab;, and they fought against them.
12:10 And they cried untoout Jehovah,to the Lord and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken Jehovah, the Lord and have served the BaalimBaals and the Ashtaroth:; but now deliver us outfrom of the handhands of our enemies, and we will serve theeThee.
12:11 AndThen Jehovahthe Lord sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you outfrom of the handhands of your enemies onall everyaround, side;so andthat yeyou dweltlived in safetysecurity.
12:12 AndWhen whenyou ye saw that Nahash the king of the childrensons of Ammon came against you, yeyou said untoto me, NayNo, but a king shall reign over us;, whenalthough Jehovahthe Lord your God was your king.
12:13 Now therefore, beholdhere is the king whom yeyou have chosen, and whom yeyou have asked for:, and, behold, Jehovahthe hathLord has set a king over you.
12:14 If yeyou will fear Jehovah, the Lord and serve himHim, and hearkenlisten untoto hisHis voice, and not rebel against the commandmentcommand of Jehovahthe Lord, andthen both yeyou and also the king thatwho reignethreigns over you bewill followersfollow ofthe JehovahLord your God, well:.
12:15 butAnd if yeyou will not hearkenlisten untoto the voice of Jehovahthe Lord, but rebel against the commandmentcommand of Jehovahthe Lord, then will the hand of Jehovahthe Lord will be against you, as it was against your fathers.
12:16 NowEven thereforenow, take your stand still and see this great thing, which Jehovahthe Lord will do before your eyes.
12:17 Is it not the wheat harvest to daytoday? I will call untoto Jehovahthe Lord, that heHe may send thunder and rain;. andThen yeyou shallwill know and see that your wickedness is great, which yeyou have done in the sight of Jehovah, the inLord by asking youfor yourselves a king.
12:18 So Samuel called untoto Jehovah;the Lord, and Jehovahthe Lord sent thunder and rain that day:; and all the people greatly feared Jehovahthe Lord and Samuel.
12:19 AndThen all the people said untoto Samuel, Pray for thyyour servants untoto Jehovahthe thyLord your God, so that we diemay not; die, for we have added untoto all our sins this evil, toby askasking usfor ourselves a king.
12:20 And Samuel said untoto the people, FearDo not: yefear. You have indeedcommitted done all this evil;, yet turndo not turn aside from following Jehovahthe Lord, but serve Jehovahthe Lord with all your heart:.
12:21 andAnd turnyou yemust not turn aside;, for then you would ye go after vainfutile things which cannotcan not profit noror deliver, forbecause they are vainfutile.
12:22 For Jehovahthe Lord will not forsakeabandon hisHis people foron hisaccount of His great names sakename, because itthe hathLord has been pleased Jehovah to make you a people untofor himselfHimself.
12:23 Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against Jehovahthe inLord by ceasing to pray for you:; but I will instruct you in the good and the right way.
12:24 Only fear Jehovah, the Lord and serve himHim in truth with all your heart; for consider howwhat great things heHe hathhas done for you.
12:25 But if yeyou shall still do wickedly, yeboth shallyou beand consumed, your bothking yeshall andbe yourswept kingaway.
13:1 Saul was forty years old when he began to reign;, and when he had reigned thirty two years over Israel,.
13:2 Now Saul chose himfor threehimself thousand3,000 men of Israel, whereofof twowhich thousand2,000 were with Saul in Michmash and in the mounthill country of Beth elBethel, andwhile a1,000 thousand were with Jonathan inat Gibeah of Benjamin:. andBut he sent away the rest of the people, heeach sent every man to his tent.
13:3 And Jonathan smote the garrison of the Philistines that was in Geba;, and the Philistines heard of it. AndThen Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, Let the Hebrews hear.
13:4 And all Israel heard saythe news that Saul had smitten the garrison of the Philistines, and also that Israel was had inbecome abominationodious withto the Philistines. AndThe the people were gatheredthen togethersummoned afterto Saul toat Gilgal.
13:5 AndNow the Philistines assembled themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty30,000 thousand chariots, and six6,000 thousand horsemen, and people aslike the sand which is on the seaseashore shore in multitude:abundance; and they came up, and encampedcamped in Michmash, eastwardeast of Beth avenBethaven.
13:6 When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait for the people were distressedhard pressed, then the people didhid hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rockscliffs, and in covertscellars, and in pits.
13:7 NowAlso some of the Hebrews hadcrossed gone over the Jordan tointo the land of Gad and Gilead;. butBut as for Saul, he was yetstill in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.
13:8 AndNow he tarriedwaited seven days, according to the setappointed time thatset by Samuel, had appointed: but Samuel camedid not come to Gilgal; and the people were scatteredscattering from him.
13:9 AndSo Saul said, Bring hitherto me the burnt offering to me, and the peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering.
13:10 And it came toabout pass that, as soon as he hadfinished made an end of offering the burnt offering, that behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, thatand heto mightgreet salute him.
13:11 AndBut Samuel said, What hasthave thouyou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scatteredscattering from me, and that thouyou camestdid not come within the appointed days appointed, and that the Philistines assembledwere themselvesassembling together at Michmash;,
13:12 therefore I said I, Now will the Philistines will come down uponagainst me toat Gilgal, and I have not entreatedasked the favor of Jehovah:the Lord. So I forced myself therefore, and offered the burnt offering.
13:13 And Samuel said to Saul, ThouYou hasthave doneacted foolishly; thouyou hasthave not kept the commandment of Jehovahthe thyLord your God, which heHe commanded thee:you, for now the Lord would Jehovah have established thyyour kingdom uponover Israel for everforever.
13:14 But now thyyour kingdom shall not continue:endure. JehovahThe hathLord has sought himout for Himself a man after hisHis own heart, and Jehovahthe hathLord has appointed him toas beruler prince over hisHis people, because thouyou hasthave not kept thatwhat whichthe JehovahLord commanded theeyou.
13:15 AndThen Samuel arose, and gatwent him up from Gilgal untoto Gibeah of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people thatwho were present with him, about six hundred men.
13:16 AndNow Saul, and Jonathan his son, Jonathan and the people thatwho were present with them, abodewere staying in Geba of Benjamin: butwhile the Philistines encampedcamped inat Michmash.
13:17 And the spoilersraiders came outfrom of the camp of the Philistines in three companies: one company turned untotoward the way that leadeth to Ophrah, untoto the land of Shual;,
13:18 and another company turned thetoward way to Beth horon;, and another company turned thetoward way of the border thatwhich lookethoverlooks down upon the valley of Zeboim toward the wilderness.
13:19 Now thereno wasblacksmith nocould smithbe found throughoutin all the land of Israel;, for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make them swords or spears:.
13:20 butSo all theIsrael Israelites went down to the Philistines, each to sharpen every man his shareplowshare, and his coultermattock, and his axe, and his mattock;hoe.
13:21 yetAnd theythe hadcharge awas filetwo forthirds theof mattocks,a andshekel for the coultersplowshares, andthe formattocks, the forks, and for the axes, and to setfix the goadshoes.
13:22 So it came toabout passon in the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear was found in the handhands of any of the people thatwho were with Saul and Jonathan:, but they were found with Saul and with Jonathan his son was there foundJonathan.
13:23 And the garrison of the Philistines went out untoto the pass of Michmash.
14:1 Now itthe fellday uponcame a day, that Jonathan, the son of Saul, said untoto the young man thatwho barewas carrying his armor, Come, and let us gocross over to the Philistines garrison, that is on yonder side. But he tolddid not tell his father.
14:2 And Saul abodewas staying in the uttermostoutskirts part of Gibeah under the pomegranate tree which is in Migron:. andAnd the people thatwho were with him were about six hundred men;,
14:3 and Ahijah, the son of Ahitub, Ichabods brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the priest of Jehovahthe inLord at Shiloh, was wearing an ephod. And the people knewdid not know that Jonathan washad gone.
14:4 And between the passes, by which Jonathan sought to gocross over untoto the Philistines garrison, there was a rockysharp crag on the one side, and a rockysharp crag on the other side:, and the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.
14:5 The one crag rose up on the north inopposite front of Michmash, and the other on the south inopposite front of Geba.
14:6 AndThen Jonathan said to the young man thatwho barewas carrying his armor, Come, and let us gocross over untoto the garrison of these uncircumcised:; itperhaps maythe beLord that Jehovah will work for us;, for therethe Lord is nonot restraintrestrained to Jehovah to save by many or by few.
14:7 And his armorbearerarmor bearer said untoto him, Do all that is in thyyour heart:; turn theeyourself, behold, and here I am with theeyou according to thyyour heartdesire.
14:8 Then Jonathan said Jonathan, Behold, we will passcross over untoto the men, and wereveal will disclose ourselves untoto them.
14:9 If they say thusto unto us, TarryWait until we come to you; then we will stand still in our place, and will not go up untoto them.
14:10 But if they say thus, Come up untoto us;, then we will go up;, for Jehovahthe hathLord deliveredhas given them into our hand:hands; and this shall be the sign untoto us.
14:11 And when both of them disclosedrevealed themselves untoto the garrison of the Philistines:, and the Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews comeare forthcoming out of the holes where they hadhave hidhidden themselves.
14:12 AndSo the men of the garrison answeredhailed Jonathan and his armorbearer, armor bearer and said, Come up to us, and we will showtell you a thingsomething. And Jonathan said untoto his armorbearerarmor bearer, Come up after me;, for Jehovahthe hathLord deliveredhas given them into the handhands of Israel.
14:13 AndThen Jonathan climbed up uponon his hands and upon his feet, andwith his armorbearerarmor afterbearer behind him:; and they fell before Jonathan;, and his armorbearerarmor slewbearer themput some to death after him.
14:14 And that first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armorbearerarmor bearer made, was about twenty men, within asabout it were half a furrowsfurrow length in an acre of land.
14:15 And there was a trembling in the camp, in the field, and among all the people;. Even the garrison, and the spoilers, raiders they also trembled;, and the earth quaked: so therethat wasit anbecame exceedinga great trembling.
14:16 AndNow theSauls watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin looked;, and, behold, the multitude melted away,; and they went hitherhere and thitherthere.
14:17 ThenAnd Saul said Saulto unto the people thatwho were with him, Number now, and see who ishas gone from us. And when they had numbered, behold, Jonathan and his armorbearerarmor bearer were not there.
14:18 AndThen Saul said untoto Ahijah, Bring hither the ark of God here. For the ark of God was there at that time with the childrensons of Israel.
14:19 And it camehappened to pass, while Saul talked untoto the priest, that the tumultcommotion that was in the camp of the Philistines wentcontinued on and increased:; andso Saul said untoto the priest, Withdraw thyyour hand.
14:20 AndThen Saul and all the people thatwho were with him wererallied gathered together, and came to the battle:; and, behold, every mans sword was against his fellow, and there was a very great discomfitureconfusion.
14:21 Now the Hebrews thatwho were with the Philistines as beforetimepreviously, andwho that went up with them intoall thearound camp,in from the country round aboutcamp, even they also turned to be with the Israelites thatwho were with Saul and Jonathan.
14:22 LikewiseWhen all the men of Israel thatwho had hidhidden themselves in the hill country of Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines had fled, even they also followedpursued hardthem afterclosely them in the battle.
14:23 So Jehovahthe savedLord delivered Israel that day:, and the battle passedspread overbeyond by Beth aven.
14:24 AndNow the men of Israel were distressedhard pressed on that day;, for Saul had adjuredput the people under oath, saying, Cursed be the man thatwho eatetheats any food untilbefore it be evening, and until I behave avenged myself on minemy enemies. So none of the people tasted food.
14:25 And all the people cameof intothe land entered the forest;, and there was honey uponon the ground.
14:26 AndWhen when the people wereentered come unto the forest, behold, thethere was a flow of honey; dropped: but no man put his hand to his mouth;, for the people feared the oath.
14:27 But Jonathan heardhad not heard when his father chargedput the people withunder the oath:; whereforetherefore, he put forthout the end of the rodstaff that was in his hand, and dipped it in the honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth;, and his eyes were enlightenedbrightened.
14:28 Then answered one of the people, answered and said, ThyYour father straitlystrictly chargedput the people withunder an oath, saying, Cursed be the man thatwho eatetheats food this daytoday. And the people were faintweary.
14:29 Then Jonathan said Jonathan, My father hathhas troubled the land:. see,See I pray younow, how minemy eyes have beenbrightened enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.
14:30 How much more, if haplyonly the people had eaten freely totoday day of the spoil of their enemies which they found?! forFor now haththe thereslaughter beenamong nothe greatPhilistines slaughterhas amongnot thebeen Philistinesgreat.
14:31 And they smotestruck ofamong the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon. And the people were very faint;weary.
14:32 andAnd the people flewrushed greedily upon the spoil, and took sheep, and oxen, and calves, and slew them on the ground; and the people didate eat them with the blood.
14:33 Then they told Saul, saying, Behold, the people sinare sinning against Jehovah, the inLord thatby theyeating eat with the blood. And he said, YeYou have dealtacted treacherously:; roll a great stone untoto me this daytoday.
14:34 And Saul said, Disperse yourselves among the people, and say untoto them, BringEach meone hitherof everyyou manbring me his ox, andor every man his sheep, and slayslaughter themit here, and eat; and sindo not sin against Jehovahthe inLord by eating with the blood. AndSo all the people that night brought everyeach manone his ox with him that night, and slewslaughtered themit there.
14:35 And Saul built an altar untoto Jehovah: the sameLord; it was the first altar that he built untoto Jehovahthe Lord.
14:36 AndThen Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and take spoil among them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatsoeverwhatever seemethseems good untoto theeyou. ThenSo said the priest said, Let us draw near hitherto untoGod Godhere.
14:37 And Saul askedinquired counsel of God, Shall I go down after the Philistines? wiltWilt thouThou delivergive them into the hand of Israel? But heHe answereddid not answer him noton that day.
14:38 And Saul said, Draw nighnear hitherhere, all yeyou chiefs of the people;, and knowinvestigate and see whereinhow this sin hathhas beenhappened this daytoday.
14:39 For, as Jehovahthe livethLord lives, who savethdelivers Israel, though it beis in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. But there was not aone manof among all the people that answered him.
14:40 Then he said heto unto all Israel, BeYou yeshall be on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And the people said untoto Saul, Do what seemethseems good untoto theeyou.
14:41 Therefore, Saul said untoto Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel, ShowGive thea rightperfect lot. And Jonathan and Saul were taken, by lot; but the people escaped.
14:43 Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what thouyou hasthave done. AndSo Jonathan told him, and said, I didindeed certainlytasted taste a little honey with the end of the rodstaff that was in my hand;. and,Here loI am, I must die.!
14:44 And Saul said, May God do sothis to me and more also;, for thouyou shaltshall surely die, Jonathan.
14:45 AndBut the people said untoto Saul, ShallMust Jonathan die, who hathhas wroughtbrought about this great salvationdeliverance in Israel? Far from it:! asAs Jehovahthe livethLord lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground;, for he hathhas wroughtworked with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan, thatand he dieddid not die.
14:46 Then Saul went up from followingpursuing the Philistines;, and the Philistines went to their own place.
14:47 Now when Saul had taken the kingdom over Israel, he fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the childrensons of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines:; and whithersoeverwherever he turned himself, he putinflicted them to the worsepunishment.
14:48 And he didacted valiantly, and smotedefeated the Amalekites, and delivered Israel outfrom of the hands of themthose thatwho despoiledplundered them.
14:49 Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, and Ishvi, and Malchi shua; and the names of his two daughters were these: the name of the first born Merab, and the name of the younger Michal:.
14:50 andAnd the name of Sauls wife was Ahinoam the daughter of Ahimaaz. And the name of the captain of his hostarmy was Abner the son of Ner, Sauls uncle.
14:51 And Kish was the father of Saul;, and Ner the father of Abner was the son of Abiel.
14:52 AndNow therethe was sore war against the Philistines was severe all the days of Saul:; and when Saul saw any mighty man, or any valiant man, he tookattached him untoto himhis staff.
15:1 AndThen Samuel said untoto Saul, JehovahThe Lord sent me to anoint theeyou toas be king over hisHis people, over Israel:; now therefore, hearkenlisten thouto unto the voicewords of the words of JehovahLord.
15:2 Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord of hosts, I havewill markedpunish thatAmalek whichfor Amalekwhat he did to Israel, how he set himself against him inon the way, whenwhile he camewas coming up outfrom of Egypt.
15:3 Now go and smitestrike Amalek, and utterly destroy all that theyhe havehas, and do not spare them nothim; but slayput to death both man and woman, infantchild and sucklinginfant, ox and sheep, camel and assdonkey.
15:4 AndThen Saul summoned the people, and numbered them in Telaim, two200,000 hundredfoot thousandsoldiers footmen, and ten10,000 thousand men of Judah.
15:5 And Saul came to the city of Amalek, and laidset waitan ambush in the valley.
15:6 And Saul said untoto the Kenites, Go, depart, getgo you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; for yeyou showed kindness to all the childrensons of Israel, when they came up outfrom of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.
15:7 AndSo Saul smotedefeated the Amalekites, from Havilah as thouyou goestgo to Shur, thatwhich is beforeeast of Egypt.
15:8 And he tookcaptured Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.
15:9 But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and wouldwere not utterlywilling to destroy them: utterly; but everything thatdespised was vile and refuseworthless, that they utterly destroyed utterly.
15:10 Then came the word of Jehovahthe untoLord came to Samuel, saying,
15:11 ItI repentethregret me that I have setmade up Saul to be king;, for he ishas turned back from following meMe, and hathhas not performedcarried myout commandmentsMy commands. And Samuel was wroth;distressed and he cried untoout Jehovahto the Lord all night.
15:12 And Samuel rose early in the morning to meet Saul in the morning; and it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a monument for himself, andthen turned, and passedproceeded on, and went down to Gilgal.
15:13 And Samuel came to Saul;, and Saul said untoto him, Blessed beare thouyou of Jehovah:the Lord! I have performedcarried out the commandmentcommand of Jehovahthe Lord.
15:14 AndBut Samuel said, What meaneth then is this bleating of the sheep in minemy ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?
15:15 And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites:, for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice untoto Jehovahthe thyLord your God; andbut the rest we have utterly destroyed.
15:16 Then Samuel said untoto Saul, StayWait, and Ilet willme tell theeyou what Jehovahthe hathLord said to me thislast night. And he said untoto him, Say on.Speak!
15:17 And Samuel said, ThoughIs thouit wastnot true, though you were little in thineyour own sighteyes, wastyou thouwere not made the head of the tribes of Israel? And Jehovahthe Lord anointed theeyou king over Israel;,
15:18 and Jehovahthe Lord sent theeyou on a journeymission, and said, Go, and utterly destroy the sinners, the Amalekites, and fight against them until they beare consumedexterminated.
15:19 WhereforeWhy then didstdid thouyou not obey the voice of Jehovahthe Lord, but didstrushed fly upon the spoil, and didstdid thatwhat which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord?
15:20 AndThen Saul said untoto Samuel, Yea, I havedid obeyedobey the voice of Jehovahthe Lord, and havewent goneon the waymission on which Jehovahthe Lord sent me, and have brought back Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.
15:21 But the people took some of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chiefchoicest of the things devoted thingsto destruction, to sacrifice untoto Jehovahthe thyLord your God inat Gilgal.
15:22 And Samuel said, HathHas Jehovahthe Lord as greatmuch delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, asAs in obeying the voice of Jehovahthe Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, andAnd to hearkenheed than the fat of rams.
15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraftdivination, andAnd stubbornnessinsubordination is as idolatryiniquity and teraphimidolatry. Because thouyou hasthave rejected the word of Jehovahthe Lord, heHe hathhas also rejected theeyou from being king.
15:24 AndThen Saul said untoto Samuel, I have sinned; for I have indeed transgressed the commandmentcommand of Jehovah, the Lord and thyyour words, because I feared the people, and obeyedlistened to their voice.
15:25 Now therefore, Iplease pray thee, pardon my sin, and turnreturn again with me, that I may worship Jehovahthe Lord.
15:26 AndBut Samuel said untoto Saul, I will not return with theeyou; for thouyou hasthave rejected the word of Jehovahthe Lord, and Jehovahthe hathLord has rejected theeyou from being king over Israel.
15:27 And as Samuel turned about to go away, Saul laidseized hold upon the skirtedge of his robe, and it renttore.
15:28 AndSo Samuel said untoto him, JehovahThe hathLord renthas torn the kingdom of Israel from theeyou this daytoday, and hathhas given it to ayour neighbor ofwho thine, that is better than thouyou.
15:29 And also the StrengthGlory of Israel will not lie noror repentchange His mind; for heHe is not a man, that heHe should repentchange His mind.
15:30 Then he said, I have sinned:; yetbut please honor me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turngo againback with me, that I may worship Jehovahthe thyLord your God.
15:31 So Samuel turnedwent againback afterfollowing Saul;, and Saul worshippedworshiped Jehovahthe Lord.
15:32 Then Samuel said Samuel, Bring ye hither to me Agag, the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came untoto him cheerfully. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.
15:33 AndBut Samuel said, As thyyour sword hathhas made women childless, so shall thyyour mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag into pieces before Jehovahthe inLord at Gilgal.
15:34 Then Samuel went to Ramah;, andbut Saul went up to his house toat Gibeah of Saul.
15:35 And Samuel camedid nonot more to see Saul again until the day of his death; for Samuel mournedgrieved forover Saul:. andAnd Jehovahthe repentedLord regretted that heHe had made Saul king over Israel.
16:1 AndNow Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Samuel, How long wiltwill thouyou mourngrieve forover Saul, seeingsince I have rejected him from being king over Israel? fillFill thyyour horn with oil, and go:; I will send theeyou to Jesse the BethBethlehemite, lehemite; for I have providedselected me a king for Myself among his sons.
16:2 AndBut Samuel said, How can I go? ifWhen Saul hearhears of it, he will kill me. And Jehovahthe Lord said, Take a heifer with theeyou, and say, I amhave come to sacrifice to Jehovahthe Lord.
16:3 And callyou shall invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show theeyou what thouyou shaltshall do:; and thouyou shaltshall anoint untofor meMe himthe one whom I namedesignate untoto theeyou.
16:4 AndSo Samuel did thatwhat whichthe JehovahLord spakesaid, and came to Beth lehemBethlehem. And the elders of the city came trembling to meet him trembling, and said, ComestDo thouyou peaceablycome in peace?
16:5 And he said, PeaceablyIn peace; I amhave come to sacrifice untoto Jehovah:the sanctifyLord. Consecrate yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. AndHe healso sanctifiedconsecrated Jesse and his sons, and calledinvited them to the sacrifice.
16:6 AndThen it came toabout pass, when they were comeentered, that he looked onat Eliab, and saidthought, Surely Jehovahsthe Lords anointed is before himHim.
16:7 But Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Samuel, LookDo not onlook at his countenance, appearance or onat the height of his stature;, because I have rejected him:; for JehovahGod seethsees not as man seeth;sees, for man lookethlooks onat the outward appearance, but Jehovahthe lookethLord onlooks at the heart.
16:8 Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hathhas Jehovahthe Lord chosen this one.
16:9 ThenNext Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hathhas Jehovahthe Lord chosen this one.
16:10 AndThus Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. AndBut Samuel said untoto Jesse, JehovahThe hathLord has not chosen these.
16:11 And Samuel said untoto Jesse, Are herethese all thythe children? And he said, There remainethremains yet the youngest, and, behold, he is keepingtending the sheep. AndThen Samuel said untoto Jesse, Send and fetchbring him; for we will not sit down tilluntil he comecomes hitherhere.
16:12 AndSo he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, andwith withal of a beautiful countenance, eyes and goodlya tohandsome look uponappearance. And Jehovahthe Lord said, Arise, anoint him; for this is he.
16:13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren:brothers; and the Spirit of Jehovahthe Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward. SoAnd Samuel rosearose up, and went to Ramah.
16:14 Now the Spirit of Jehovahthe Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from Jehovahthe troubledLord terrorized him.
16:15 And Sauls servants then said untoto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troublethis theeterrorizing you.
16:16 Let our Lord now command thyyour servants, thatwho are before thee, you. toLet them seek out a man who is a skilfulskillful player on the harp:; and it shall come toabout pass, when the evil spirit from God is uponon theeyou, that he shall play the harp with his hand, and thouyou shaltwill be well.
16:17 AndSo Saul said untoto his servants, Provide for me now a man thatwho can play well, and bring him to me.
16:18 Then answered one of the young men, answered and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the BethBethlehemite lehemite, who that is skilfula inskillful playingmusician, and a mighty man of valor, and a man of warwarrior, andone prudent in speech, and a comelyhandsome personman; and Jehovahthe Lord is with him.
16:19 WhereforeSo Saul sent messengers untoto Jesse, and said, Send me Davidyour thy son, David who is with the sheepflock.
16:20 And Jesse took ana assdonkey ladenloaded with bread, and a bottlejug of wine, and a kidyoung goat, and sent them to Saul by David his son unto Saul.
16:21 AndThen David came to Saul, and stoodattended before him:, and heSaul loved him greatly; and he became his armorbearerarmor bearer.
16:22 And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, Inow pray thee, stand before me; for he hathhas found favor in my sight.
16:23 AndSo it came toabout pass, whenever when the evil spirit from God wascame uponto Saul, that David tookwould take the harp, and playedplay it with his hand:; soand Saul waswould be refreshed, and wasbe well, and the evil spirit departedwould depart from him.
17:1 Now the Philistines gathered together their armies tofor battle; and they were gathered together at Socoh, which belongethbelongs to Judah, and encampedthey camped between Socoh and Azekah, in Ephes dammim.
17:2 And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and encampedcamped in the valevalley of Elah, and setdrew theup in battle in array againstto encounter the Philistines.
17:3 And the Philistines stood on the mountain on the one side, andwhile Israel stood on the mountain on the other side:, andwith therethe was a valley between them.
17:4 AndThen there went out a champion came out offrom the camparmies of the Philistines, named Goliath, offrom Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
17:5 And he had a bronze helmet ofon brass upon his head, and he was cladclothed with ascale coatarmor ofwhich mail;weighed and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brassbronze.
17:6 AndHe healso had bronze greaves ofon brass upon his legs, and a bronze javelin ofslung brass between his shoulders.
17:7 And the staffshaft of his spear was like a weavers beam;, and the head of his spearsspear head weighed six hundred shekels of iron:; and his shield bearercarrier wentalso walked before him.
17:8 And he stood and criedshouted untoto the armiesranks of Israel, and said untoto them, Why aredo yeyou come out to setdraw yourup in battle in array? amAm I not Ithe a Philistine, and yeyou servants toof Saul? chooseChoose you a man for you, yourselves and let him come down to me.
17:9 If he beis able to fight with me, and kill me, then we will webecome be your servants; but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then you shall yebecome be our servants, and serve us.
17:10 AndAgain the Philistine said, I defy the armiesranks of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.
17:11 AndWhen when Saul and all Israel heard thosethese words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
17:12 Now David was the son of thatthe Ephrathite of BethBethlehem lehemin judahJudah, whose name was Jesse;, and he had eight sons:. andAnd theJesse man was an old man in the days of Saul, strickenadvanced in years among men.
17:13 And the three eldestolder sons of Jesse had gone after Saul to the battle:. andAnd the names of his three sons thatwho went to the battle were Eliab the first born, and nextthe untosecond to him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.
17:14 And David was the youngest;. andNow the three eldestoldest followed Saul.,
17:15 Nowbut David went toback and froforth from Saul to feedtend his fathers sheepflock at Beth lehemBethlehem.
17:16 And the Philistine drewcame nearforward morning and evening for forty days, and presentedtook himselfhis forty daysstand.
17:17 AndThen Jesse said untoto David his son, Take now for thyyour brethrenbrothers an ephah of this parchedroasted grain, and these ten loaves, and carryrun them quickly to the camp to thyyour brethren;brothers.
17:18 andBring bringalso these ten cheesescuts untoof cheese to the captaincommander of their thousand, and look howinto thythe brethrenwelfare fareof your brothers, and takebring theirback pledgenews of them.
17:19 NowFor Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, wereare in the valevalley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
17:20 AndSo David rosearose up early in the morning, and left the sheepflock with a keeper, and took, the supplies and went, as Jesse had commanded him;. andAnd he came to the placecircle of the wagons, camp aswhile the hostarmy which was going forthout toin thebattle fightarray shoutedshouting for the battlewar cry.
17:21 And Israel and the Philistines putdrew theup in battle in array, army against army.
17:22 AndThen David left his baggage in the handcare of the baggage keeper of the baggage, and ran to the army, battle line and cameentered andin salutedorder to greet his brethrenbrothers.
17:23 AndAs as he talkedwas talking with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine offrom Gath, named Goliath, bywas name, coming outup offrom the ranksarmy of the Philistines, and spakehe accordingspoke tothese the same words:; and David heard them.
17:24 AndWhen all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, they fled from him, and were soregreatly afraid.
17:25 And the men of Israel said, Have yeyou seen this man thatwho is comecoming up? surelySurely tohe defyis Israelcoming isup heto comedefy up:Israel. andAnd it shallwill be, that the manking whowill killethenrich him, the kingman willwho enrichkills him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his fathers house free in Israel.
17:26 AndThen David spakespoke to the men thatwho stoodwere standing by him, saying, What shallwill be done tofor the man thatwho killethkills this Philistine, and takethtakes away the reproach from Israel? forFor who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defytaunt the armies of the living God?
17:27 And the people answered him afterin accord with this mannerword, saying, SoThus shall it will be done tofor the man thatwho killethkills him.
17:28 AndNow Eliab his eldestoldest brother heard when he spakespoke untoto the men; and Eliabs anger wasburned kindled against David, and he said, Why arthave thouyou come down? andAnd with whom hasthave thouyou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thyyour pride, insolence and the naughtinesswickedness of thyyour heart; for thouyou arthave come down thatin thouorder mightestto see the battle.
17:29 AndBut David said, What have I done now done? IsWas thereit not just a causequestion?
17:30 AndThen he turned away from him towardto another, and spakesaid after the same manner:thing; and the people answered himthe againsame afterthing theas former mannerbefore.
17:31 AndWhen when the words were heard which David spakespoke were heard, they rehearsedtold them beforeto Saul;, and he sent for him.
17:32 And David said to Saul, Let no mans heart fail becauseon account of him; thyyour servant will go and fight with this Philistine.
17:33 AndThen Saul said to David, ThouYou artare not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for thouyou artare but a youth, andwhile he ahas manbeen ofa warwarrior from his youth.
17:34 AndBut David said untoto Saul, ThyYour servant was keepingtending his fathers sheep;. andWhen when there came a lion, or a bear, came and took a lamb outfrom of the flock,
17:35 I went out after him, and smoteattacked him, and deliveredrescued it outfrom of his mouth; and when he aroserose up against me, I caughtseized him by his beard, and smotestruck him, and slewkilled him.
17:36 ThyYour servant smotehas killed both the lion and the bear:; and this uncircumcised Philistine shallwill be aslike one of them, seeingsince he hathhas defiedtaunted the armies of the living God.
17:37 And David said, JehovahThe thatLord who delivered me outfrom of the paw of the lion, and outfrom of the paw of the bear, heHe will deliver me outfrom of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said untoto David, Go, and Jehovahmay shallthe Lord be with theeyou.
17:38 AndThen Saul cladclothed David with his apparel, garments and he put a bronze helmet ofon brass upon his head, and he cladclothed him with a coat of mailarmor.
17:39 And David girded his sword uponover his apparel, armor and hetried assayed to go;walk, for he had not provedtested itthem. AndSo David said untoto Saul, I cannot go with these;, for I have not provedtested them. And David puttook them off him.
17:40 And he took his staffstick in his hand, and chose himfor himself five smooth stones outfrom of the brook, and put them in the shepherds bag which he had, even in his wallet;pouch, and his sling was in his hand:; and he drewapproached near to the Philistine.
17:41 AndThen the Philistine came on and drewapproached near unto David;, andwith the manshield thatbearer barein thefront shieldof went before him.
17:42 AndWhen when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a youth, and ruddy, andwith withal of a fairhandsome countenanceappearance.
17:43 And the Philistine said untoto David, Am I a dog, that thouyou comestcome to me with stavessticks? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
17:44 AndThe the Philistine also said to David, Come to me, and I will give thyyour flesh untoto the birds of the heavens, sky and to the beasts of the field.
17:45 Then David said David to the Philistine, ThouYou comestcome to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin:, but I come to theeyou in the name of Jehovahthe Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thouyou hasthave defiedtaunted.
17:46 This day the Lord will Jehovah deliver theeyou up into my hand;hands, and I will smitestrike thee, you down and takeremove thyyour head from offyou. thee; And and I will give the dead bodies of the hostarmy of the Philistines this day untoto the birds of the heavens, sky and to the wild beasts of the earth;, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,
17:47 and that all this assembly may know that Jehovahthe savethLord does not withdeliver by sword andor by spear:; for the battle is Jehovahs, the Lords and heHe will give you into our handhands.
17:48 AndThen it camehappened to pass, when the Philistine arose, rose and came and drew nighnear to meet David, that David hastened, ran andquickly ran toward the armybattle line to meet the Philistine.
17:49 And David put his hand ininto his bag, and took thencefrom it a stone, and slangslung it, and smotestruck the Philistine inon his forehead;. andAnd the stone sank into his forehead, andso that he fell uponon his face to the earthground.
17:50 SoThus David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smotehe struck the Philistine, and slewkilled him; but there was no sword in theDavids hand of David.
17:51 Then David ran, and stood over the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of theits sheath thereof, and slewkilled him, and cut off his head therewithwith it. AndWhen when the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.
17:52 And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, untilas thoufar comestas tothe Gaivalley, and to the gates of Ekron. And the woundedslain of the Philistines felllay downalong by the way to Shaaraim, even untoto Gath, and unto Ekron.
17:53 And the childrensons of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they plundered their campcamps.
17:54 AndThen David took the Philistines head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem;, but he put his armorweapons in his tent.
17:55 AndNow when Saul saw David gogoing forthout against the Philistine, he said untoto Abner, the captaincommander of the hostarmy, Abner, whose son is this youthyoung man? And Abner said, AsBy thyyour soul livethlife, O king, I cannotdo tellnot know.
17:56 And the king said, InquireYou thouinquire whose son the striplingyouth is.
17:57 AndSo aswhen David returned from thekilling slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the Philistines head of the Philistine in his hand.
17:58 And Saul said to him, Whose son artare thouyou, thou young man? And David answered, I am the son of thyyour servant Jesse the Beth lehemiteBethlehemite.
18:1 AndNow it came toabout pass, when he had madefinished an end of speaking untoto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit withto the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soulhimself.
18:2 And Saul took him that day, and woulddid not let him goreturn no more home to his fathers house.
18:3 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, with David because he loved him as his own soulhimself.
18:4 And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was uponon him, and gave it to David, andwith his apparelarmor, evenincluding to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdlebelt.
18:5 AndSo David went out whithersoeverwherever Saul sent him, and behavedprospered; himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war,. andAnd it was goodpleasing in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Sauls servants.
18:6 And it camehappened to pass as they camewere coming, when David returned from thekilling slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet kingKing Saul, with timbrelstambourines, with joy, and with musical instruments of music.
18:7 And the women sang one to another as they played, and said, Saul hathhas slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands.
18:8 AndThen Saul wasbecame very wrothangry, andfor this saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed untoto David ten thousands, andbut to me they have ascribed but thousands:. andNow what more can he have more but the kingdom?
18:9 And Saul eyedlooked at David with suspicion from that day and forwardon.
18:10 AndNow it came toabout pass on the morrow, next day that an evil spirit from God came mightily upon Saul, and he prophesiedraved in the midst of the house:, andwhile David playedwas playing the harp with his hand, as heusual; didand daya byspear day.was And Saul had his spear in hisSauls hand;.
18:11 andAnd Saul casthurled the spear; for he saidthought, I will smitepin David even to the wall. AndBut David avoidedescaped outfrom of his presence twice.
18:12 AndNow Saul was afraid of David, becausefor Jehovahthe Lord was with him, andbut washad departed from Saul.
18:13 Therefore Saul removed him from himhis presence, and madeappointed him as his captaincommander overof a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
18:14 And David behavedwas himselfprospering wisely in all his ways; andfor Jehovahthe Lord was with him.
18:15 AndWhen when Saul saw that he behavedwas himselfprospering very wiselygreatly, he stooddreaded in awe of him.
18:16 But all Israel and Judah loved David;, forand he went out and came in before them.
18:17 AndThen Saul said to David, Behold,Here is my elderolder daughter Merab,; herI will I give theeher to you as a wife:, only be thoua valiant man for me, and fight Jehovahsthe Lords battles. For Saul saidthought, LetMy nothand myshall handnot be uponagainst him, but let the hand of the Philistines be uponagainst him.
18:18 AndBut David said untoto Saul, Who am I, and what is my life, or my fathers family in Israel, that I should be the kings son in law to the king?
18:19 ButSo it came toabout pass at the time when Merab, Sauls daughter, should have been given to David, that she was given untoto Adriel the Meholathite tofor a wife.
18:20 AndNow Michal, Sauls daughter, loved David:. andWhen they told Saul, and the thing pleasedwas agreeable to him.
18:21 And Saul saidthought, I will give her to him her, that she may bebecome a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. WhereforeTherefore Saul said to David, ThouFor shalta thissecond daytime you may be my son in law a second timetoday.
18:22 AndThen Saul commanded his servants, saying,Speak Communeto with David secretly, and saysaying, Behold, the king hathdelights delight in theeyou, and all his servants love thee:you; now therefore, bebecome the kings son in law.
18:23 AndSo Sauls servants spakespoke thosethese words into the ears of David. AndBut David said, SeemethIs it totrivial youin ayour lightsight thing to bebecome the kings son in law, seeingsince that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?
18:24 And the servants of Saul toldreported to him, saying, according Onto thisthese mannerwords spakewhich David spoke.
18:25 And Saul then said, Thus you shall ye say to David, The king desirethdoes not desire any dowry, butexcept a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to betake avengedvengeance ofon the kings enemies. Now Saul thoughtplanned to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
18:26 AndWhen when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to bebecome the kings son in law. AndBefore the days werehad not expired;
18:27 and David aroserose up and went, he and his men, and slewstruck ofdown the Philistines two hundred men; andamong the Philistines. Then David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full number to the king, that he might bebecome the kings son in law. AndSo Saul gave him Michal his daughter tofor a wife.
18:28 AndWhen Saul saw and knew that Jehovahthe Lord was with David;, and that Michal, Sauls daughter, loved him.,
18:29 Andthen Saul was yeteven the more afraid of David;. andThus Saul was Davids enemy continually.
18:30 Then the princescommanders of the Philistines went forth:out to battle, and it camehappened to pass, as often as they went forthout, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul;. soSo that his name was muchhighly set byesteemed.
19:1 AndNow Saul spaketold to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, thatto theyput shouldDavid slayto Daviddeath. But Jonathan, Sauls son, greatly delighted much in David.
19:2 AndSo Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seekethis seeking to slayput thee:you nowto therefore, death. INow pray theetherefore, takeplease heedbe toon thyselfguard in the morning, and abidestay in a secret place, and hide thyself:yourself.
19:3 andAnd I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thouyou artare, and I will communespeak with my father ofabout theeyou; and if I seefind aughtout anything, then I willshall tell theeyou.
19:4 AndThen Jonathan spakespoke goodwell of David untoto Saul his father, and said untoto him, LetDo not let the king sin against his servant, against David;, becausesince he hathhas not sinned against theeyou, and becausesince his worksdeeds have been tovery theebeneficial wardto very good:you.
19:5 forFor he puttook his life in his hand, and smotestruck the Philistine, and Jehovahthe wroughtLord brought about a great victorydeliverance for all Israel:; thouyou sawestsaw it, and didstrejoiced. rejoice; Why wherefore then wiltwill thouyou sin against innocent blood, toby slayputting David to death without a cause?
19:6 And Saul hearkenedlistened untoto the voice of Jonathan:, and Saul swarevowed, As Jehovahthe livethLord lives, he shall not be put to death.
19:7 AndThen Jonathan called David, and Jonathan showedtold him all thosethese thingswords. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence, as beforetimeformerly.
19:8 AndWhen there was war again:, and David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and slewdefeated them with a great slaughter;, andso that they fled before him.
19:9 AndNow there was an evil spirit from Jehovahthe wasLord uponon Saul, as he satwas sitting in his house with his spear in his hand;, and David was playing the harp with his hand.
19:10 And Saul soughttried to smitepin David even to the wall with the spear;, but he slipped away out of Sauls presence, andso that he smotestuck the spear into the wall:. andAnd David fled, and escaped that night.
19:11 AndThen Saul sent messengers untoto Davids house, to watch him, andin order to slayput him to death in the morning:. andBut Michal, Davids wife, told him, saying, If thouyou savedo not thysave your life to nighttonight, totomorrow morrowyou thouwill wilt be slainput to death.
19:12 So Michal let David down through thea window:, and he went, out and fled, and escaped.
19:13 And Michal took the teraphim, household idol and laid it inon the bed, and put a pillowquilt of goats hair at theits head thereof, and covered it with the clothes.
19:14 AndWhen when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, He is sick.
19:15 AndThen Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying, Bring him up to me inon thehis bed, that I may slayput him to death.
19:16 AndWhen when the messengers came inentered, behold, the teraphimhousehold idol was inon the bed, with the pillowquilt of goats hair at theits head thereof.
19:17 AndSo Saul said untoto Michal, Why hasthave thouyou deceived me thus, like this and let minemy enemy go, so that he ishas escaped? And Michal answeredsaid to Saul, He said untoto me, Let me go;! whyWhy should I killput theeyou to death?
19:18 Now David fled, and escaped, and came to Samuel toat Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and dweltstayed in Naioth.
19:20 AndThen Saul sent messengers to take David:, andbut when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, andwith Samuel standing asand headpresiding over them, the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul,; and they also prophesied.
19:21 And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they also prophesied. AndSo Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they also prophesied.
19:22 Then went he alsohimself went to Ramah, and came toas far as the greatlarge well that is in Secu:; and he asked and said, Where are Samuel and David? And onesomeone said, Behold, they are at Naioth in Ramah.
19:23 And he wentproceeded thitherthere to Naioth in Ramah:; and the Spirit of God came upon him also, andso that he went on,along andprophesying prophesied, continually until he came to Naioth in Ramah.
19:24 And he also stripped off his clothes, and he alsotoo prophesied before Samuel, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. WhereforeTherefore they say, Is Saul also among the prophets?
20:1 AndThen David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said beforeto Jonathan, What have I done? whatWhat is minemy iniquity? andAnd what is my sin before thyyour father, that he seekethis seeking my life?
20:2 And he said untoto him, Far from it;, thouyou shaltshall not die:. beholdBehold, my father doethdoes nothing either great or small, butwithout thatdisclosing he discloseth it untoto me;. andSo why should my father hide this thing from me? itIt is not so.!
20:3 AndYet David swarevowed moreoveragain, and saidsaying, ThyYour father knowethknows well that I have found favor in thineyour eyes;sight, and he saithhas said, LetDo not let Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved:. butBut truly as Jehovahthe liveth,Lord lives and as thyyour soul livethlives, there is buthardly a step between me and death.
20:4 Then Jonathan said Jonathanto unto David, WhatsoeverWhatever thyyou soul desirethsay, I will even do it for theeyou.
20:5 AndSo David said untoto Jonathan, Behold, totomorrow morrow is the new moon, and I shouldought notto failsit down to siteat with the king. atBut meat: but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field untountil the third day at evenevening.
20:6 If thyyour father missmisses me at all, then say, David earnestly asked leave of me thatto he might run to BethBethlehem lehem his city;, forbecause it is the yearly sacrifice there for all the whole family.
20:7 If he say thussays, It is well;good, thyyour servant shall havebe peace:safe; but if he beis wrothvery angry, then know that evilhe ishas determineddecided byon himevil.
20:8 Therefore deal kindly with thyyour servant;, for thouyou hasthave brought thyyour servant into a covenant of Jehovahthe Lord with thee:you. butBut if there beis iniquity in me iniquity, slayput me thyselfto death yourself; for why shouldestthen thoushould you bring me to thyyour father?
20:9 And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee;you! forFor if I should atindeed alllearn know that evil werehas determinedbeen decided by my father to come upon theeyou, then would I not I tell you about it thee?
20:10 Then David said David to Jonathan, Who shallwill tell me if perchanceyour thy father answeranswers theeyou roughlyharshly?
20:11 And Jonathan said untoto David, Come, and let us go out into the field. AndSo they went out both of them intowent out to the field.
20:12 AndThen Jonathan said untoto David, JehovahThe Lord, the God of Israel, be witness:! whenWhen I have sounded out my father about this time to morrowtomorrow, or the third day, behold, if there beis good feeling toward David, shall I not then send untoto thee, you and disclosemake it untoknown theeto you?
20:13 JehovahIf doit soplease my father to Jonathan,do andyou more alsoharm, shouldmay itthe pleaseLord mydo fatherso to doJonathan theeand evilmore also, if I disclosedo not make it notknown untoto thee, you and send theeyou away, that thouyou mayestmay go in peace:safety. andAnd Jehovahmay the Lord be with thee, you as heHe hathhas been with my father.
20:14 And thouif shaltI notam onlystill whilealive, yetwill Iyou livenot show me the lovingkindness of Jehovahthe Lord, that I diemay not; die?
20:15 butAnd alsoyou thoushall shalt not cut off thyyour kindnesslovingkindness from my house for ever; noforever, not even when Jehovahthe hathLord cutcuts off every one of the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth.
20:16 So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, AndMay Jehovahthe willLord require it at the handhands of Davids enemies.
20:17 And Jonathan causedmade David tovow swear again, forbecause theof his love thatfor he had to him;, forbecause he loved him as he loved his own soullife.
20:18 Then Jonathan said untoto him, ToTomorrow morrow is the new moon:, and thouyou wiltwill be missed, because thyyour seat will be empty.
20:19 AndWhen whenyou thouhave hast stayed for three days, thouyou shaltshall go down quickly, and come to the place where thouyou didsthid hideyourself thyselfon whenthat theeventful business was in handday, and shaltyou shall remain by the stone Ezel.
20:20 And I will shoot three arrows onto the side thereof, as though I shot at a marktarget.
20:21 And, behold, I will send the lad, saying, Go, find the arrows. If I specifically say untoto the lad, Behold, the arrows are on this side of thee;you, takeget them, andthen come; for there is peacesafety tofor theeyou and no hurtharm, as Jehovahthe livethLord lives.
20:22 But if I say thusto unto the boyyouth, Behold, the arrows are beyond thee;you, go, thyfor way;the forLord Jehovahhas hath sent theeyou away.
20:23 AndAs asfor touching the matteragreement of which thouyou and I have spoken of, behold, Jehovahthe Lord is between theeyou and me for everforever.
20:24 So David hid himself in the field:; and when the new moon was comecame, the king sat him down to eat food.
20:25 And the king sat uponon his seat, as at other timesusual, even upon the seat by the wall; andthen Jonathan stoodrose up, and Abner sat down by Sauls side:, but Davids place was empty.
20:26 Nevertheless Saul spakedid not speak anything that day:, for he thought, SomethingIt hathis befallenan himaccident, he is not clean;, surely he is not clean.
20:27 And it came toabout pass on the morrownext afterday, the newsecond moon, day whichof was the secondnew daymoon, that Davids place was empty:; andso Saul said untoto Jonathan his son, WhereforeWhy comethhas not the son of Jesse not come to meatthe meal, neithereither yesterday, noror to daytoday?
20:28 And Jonathan then answered Saul, David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Beth lehem:Bethlehem,
20:29 andfor he said, LetPlease let me go, Isince pray thee; for our family hathhas a sacrifice in the city;, and my brother, hehas hath commanded me to beattend. there:And and now, if I have found favor in thineyour eyessight, please let me get away, that I praymay thee, and see my brethrenbrothers. ThereforeFor this reason he ishas not come untoto the kings table.
20:30 Then Sauls anger wasburned kindled against Jonathan, and he said untoto him, ThouYou son of a perverse, rebellious woman,! doDo I not I know that thouyou hastare chosenchoosing the son of Jesse to thineyour own shame, and untoto the shame of thyyour mothers nakedness?
20:31 For as long as the son of Jesse livethlives uponon the groundearth, thouneither shaltyou notnor beyour established, kingdom norwill thybe kingdomestablished. WhereforeTherefore now, send and fetchbring him untoto me, for he shallmust surely die.
20:32 AndBut Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said untoto him, WhereforeWhy should he be put to death? whatWhat hathhas he done?
20:33 AndThen Saul casthurled his spear at him to smitestrike him down; wherebyso Jonathan knew that ithis wasfather determinedhad ofdecided his father to put David to death.
20:34 SoThen Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and did not eat no food on the second day of the month;new moon, for he was grieved forover David, because his father had donedishonored him shame.
20:35 AndNow it came toabout pass in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field atfor the timeappointment appointed with David, and a little lad was with him.
20:36 And he said untoto his lad, Run, find now the arrows which I am about to shoot. AndAs as the lad ranwas running, he shot an arrow beyondpast him.
20:37 AndWhen when the lad wasreached come to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan criedcalled after the lad, and said, Is not the arrow beyond theeyou?
20:38 And Jonathan criedcalled after the lad, Make speedHurry, hastebe quick, staydo not. stay! And Jonathans lad gatheredpicked up the arrows, arrow and came to his master.
20:39 But the lad knewwas not aware of anything:; only Jonathan and David knew about the matter.
20:40 AndThen Jonathan gave his weapons untoto his lad, and said untoto him, Go, carrybring them to the city.
20:41 AndWhen as soon as the lad was gone, David aroserose outfrom ofthe asouth placeside toward the South, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times:. andAnd they kissed oneeach another, other and wept one with anothertogether, untilbut David exceededmore.
20:42 And Jonathan said to David, Go in peacesafety, forasmuchinasmuch as we have sworn bothto ofeach usother in the name of Jehovahthe Lord, saying, JehovahThe shallLord will be between me and theeyou, and between my seeddescendants and thyyour seed, descendants for everforever. AndThen he aroserose and departed:, andwhile Jonathan went into the city.
21:1 Then David came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest:; and Ahimelech came trembling to meet David trembling, and said untoto him, Why artare thouyou alone, and no manone with theeyou?
21:2 And David said untoto Ahimelech the priest, The king hathhas commandedcommissioned me with a businessmatter, and hathhas said untoto me, Let no manone know anything ofabout the businessmatter whereabouton which I sendam thee, sending you and whatwith which I have commandedcommissioned thee:you; and I have appointeddirected the young men to sucha andcertain such a place.
21:3 Now therefore, what isdo underyou thyhave on hand? giveGive me five loaves of bread in my hand, or whatsoeverwhatever therecan isbe presentfound.
21:4 And the priest answered David, and said, There is no commonordinary bread underon my hand, but there is holyconsecrated bread; if only the young men have kept themselves from women.
21:5 And David answered the priest, and said untoto him, OfSurely a truth women have been kept from us aboutas thesepreviously three days; when I cameset out, and the vessels of the young men were holy, though it was butan aordinary common journey; how much more then totoday daywill shall their vessels be holy?
21:6 So the priest gave him holyconsecrated bread; for there was no bread there but the showbread, bread thatof the Presence which was takenremoved from before Jehovahthe Lord, in order to put hot bread in theits dayplace when it was taken away.
21:7 Now aone certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before Jehovahthe Lord; and his name was Doeg the Edomite, the chiefestchief of theSauls herdsmen that belonged to Saulshepherds.
21:8 And David said untoto Ahimelech, AndNow is there not herea underspear thyor handa spearsword oron swordhand? forFor I havebrought neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me, because the kings businessmatter requiredwas hasteurgent.
21:9 AndThen the priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thouyou slewestkilled in the valevalley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod:; if thouyou wiltwould take thatit for yourself, take it;. forFor there is no other saveexcept thatit here. And David said, There is none like thatit; give it to me.
21:10 AndThen David arose, and fled that day forfrom fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.
21:11 AndBut the servants of Achish said untoto him, Is this not this David the king of the land? didDid they not sing oneof tothis anotherone ofas himthey in dancesdanced, saying, Saul hathhas slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands ?
21:12 And David laidtook up these words into his heart, and wasgreatly sorefeared afraid of Achish the king of Gath.
21:13 AndSo he changeddisguised his behaviorsanity before them, and feignedacted himselfinsanely mad in their hands, and scrabbledscribbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittlesaliva fallrun down uponinto his beard.
21:14 Then Achish said Achishto unto his servants, LoBehold, yeyou see the man isbehaving mad;as whereforea thenmadman. haveWhy yedo broughtyou bring him to me?
21:15 Do I lack madmen, that yeyou have brought this fellowone to playact the madman in my presence? shallShall this fellowone come into my house?
22:1 So David therefore departed thence, from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam:; and when his brethrenbrothers and all his fathers househousehold heard of it, they went down thitherthere to him.
22:2 And everyeveryone onewho that was in distress, and everyeveryone onewho that was in debt, and everyeveryone onewho that was discontented, gathered themselvesto unto him; and he became captain over them:. andNow there were with him about four hundred men with him.
22:3 And David went thencefrom there to MizpehMizpah of Moab:; and he said untoto the king of Moab, LetPlease let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth, and bestay with you, tilluntil I know what God will do for me.
22:4 AndThen he broughtleft them beforewith the king of Moab:; and they dweltstayed with him all the whiletime that David was in the stronghold.
22:5 And the prophet Gad said untoto David, AbideDo not stay in the stronghold; depart, and getgo thee into the land of Judah. ThenSo David departed, and camewent into the forest of Hereth.
22:6 AndThen Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men thatwho were with him: nowhad been discovered. Now Saul was sitting in Gibeah, under the tamarisk tree inon Ramah, the height with his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing aboutaround him.
22:7 And Saul said untoto his servants thatwho stood aboutaround him, Hear now, yeO Benjamites;! willWill the son of Jesse also give everyto oneall of you fields and vineyards,? willWill he make you all captainscommanders of thousands and captainscommanders of hundreds,?
22:8 thatFor all of you have conspired against me, andso that there is noneno thatone disclosethwho discloses to me when my son makethmakes a leaguecovenant with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you thatwho is sorry for me, or disclosethdiscloses untoto me that my son hathhas stirred up my servant against me, to lie in waitambush, as atit is this day?.
22:9 Then answered Doeg the Edomite, who stoodwas standing by the servants of Saul, answered and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.
22:10 And he inquired of Jehovahthe Lord for him, and gave him victualsprovisions, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.
22:11 Then the king sent someone to callsummon Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his fathers househousehold, the priests thatwho were in Nob:; and they came all of them came to the king.
22:12 And Saul said, HearListen now, thou son of Ahitub. And he answered, Here I am, my Lord.
22:13 And Saul then said untoto him, Why have yeyou conspired against me, thou and the son of Jesse conspired against me, in that thouyou hasthave given him bread, and a sword, and hasthave inquired of God for him, that he should rise up against me, toby lielying in wait, ambush as atit is this day?
22:14 Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, And who among all thyyour servants is soas faithful as David, whoeven is the kings son in law, andwho is takencaptain intoover thyyour councilguard, and is honorablehonored in thyyour house?
22:15 HaveDid I tojust daybegin begun to inquire of God for him today? Far be it far from me:! letDo not let the king impute anything untoto his servant, noror to allany of the househousehold of my father;, for thyyour servant knowethknows nothing ofat all of this, lesswhole or moreaffair.
22:16 AndBut the king said, ThouYou shaltshall surely die, Ahimelech, thou, you and all thyyour fathers house.household!
22:17 And the king said untoto the guardguards thatwho stoodwere aboutattending him, Turn, around and slayput the priests of Jehovah;the Lord to death, because their hand also is with David, and because they knew that he fled, was fleeing and did not disclosereveal it to me. But the servants of the king wouldwere not willing to put forth their handhands to fallattack upon the priests of Jehovahthe Lord.
22:18 AndThen the king said to Doeg, TurnYou thou, turn around and fallattack upon the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned, around and heattacked fell upon the priests, and he slewkilled on that day fourscoreeighty and five personsmen thatwho didwore wearthe a linen ephod.
22:19 And he struck Nob, the city of the priests, smote he with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and sucklings, infants; andalso oxen, anddonkeys, asses and sheep, he struck with the edge of the sword.
22:20 AndBut one ofson the sons of Ahimelech, the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David.
22:21 And Abiathar told David that Saul had slainkilled Jehovahsthe priests of the Lord.
22:22 AndThen David said untoto Abiathar, I knew on that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul:. I have occasionedbrought about the death of allevery theperson personsin ofyour thy fathers househousehold.
22:23 AbideStay thou with me, feardo not; be afraid, for he thatwho seekethseeks my life seekethseeks thyyour life:; for withyou meare thousafe shaltwith be in safeguardme.
23:1 AndThen they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and are robbingplundering the threshing floors.
23:2 ThereforeSo David inquired of Jehovahthe Lord, saying, Shall I go and smiteattack these Philistines? And Jehovahthe Lord said untoto David, Go, and smiteattack the Philistines, and savedeliver Keilah.
23:3 AndBut Davids men said untoto him, Behold, we are afraid here in Judah:. howHow much more then if we go to Keilah against the armiesranks of the Philistines?
23:4 Then David inquired of Jehovahthe yetLord againonce more. And Jehovahthe Lord answered him, and said, Arise, go down to Keilah;, for I will delivergive the Philistines into thyyour hand.
23:5 AndSo David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines,; and broughthe led away their cattle, livestock and slewstruck them with a great slaughter. SoThus David saveddelivered the inhabitants of Keilah.
23:6 AndNow it came to passabout, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David toat Keilah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand.
23:7 AndWhen it was told Saul that David washad come to Keilah., And Saul said, God hathhas delivered him into my hand;, for he is shut himself in, by entering into a towncity thatwith hathdouble gates and bars.
23:8 AndSo Saul summoned all the people tofor war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.
23:9 AndNow David knew that Saul was devisingplotting mischiefevil against him; andso he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring hither the ephod here.
23:10 Then David said David, O Jehovah,Lord the God of Israel, thyThy servant hathhas surely heard for certain that Saul seekethis seeking to come to Keilah, to destroy the city foron my sakeaccount.
23:11 Will the men of Keilah deliversurrender me up into his hand? willWill Saul come down, just as thyThy servant hathhas heard? O Jehovah,Lord the God of Israel, I beseech theepray, tell thyThy servant. And Jehovahthe Lord said, He will come down.
23:12 Then David said David, Will the men of Keilah deliversurrender up me and my men into the hand of Saul? And Jehovahthe Lord said, They will deliversurrender thee upyou.
23:13 Then David and his men, who were about six hundred, arose and departed outfrom of Keilah, and they went whithersoeverwherever they could go. AndWhen it was told Saul that David washad escaped from Keilah;, and he forbaregave toup gothe forthpursuit.
23:14 And David abodestayed in the wilderness in the strongholds, and remained in the hill country in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivereddid not deliver him not into his hand.
23:15 AndNow David sawbecame aware that Saul washad come out to seek his life: andwhile David was in the wilderness of Ziph inat the woodHoresh.
23:16 And Jonathan, Sauls son, arose, and went to David intoat the woodHoresh, and strengthenedencouraged hishim hand in God.
23:17 AndThus he said untoto him, FearDo not; forbe afraid, because the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee;you, and thouyou shaltwill be king over Israel, and I shallwill be next untoto theeyou; and that also Saul my father knowethknows that also.
23:18 AndSo theythe two of them made a covenant before Jehovah:the Lord; and David abodestayed inat theHoresh wood, while and Jonathan went to his house.
23:19 Then Ziphites came up the Ziphites to Saul toat Gibeah, saying, DothIs not David hidenot himselfhiding with us in the strongholds inat the woodHoresh, inon the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of the desertJeshimon?
23:20 Now thereforethen, O king, come down, according to all the desire of thyyour soul to comedo downso; and our part shall be to deliversurrender him up into the kings hand.
23:21 And Saul said, BlessedMay you be yeblessed of Jehovahthe Lord; for yeyou have had compassion on me.
23:22 Go, I pray younow, make yet more sure, and knowinvestigate and see his place where his haunt is, and who hathhas seen him there; for itI isam told me that he dealethis very subtlycunning.
23:23 SeeSo thereforelook, and takelearn knowledgeabout of all the lurkinghiding places where he hidethhides himself, and comereturn ye again to me ofwith a certainty, and I will go with you:; and it shall come toabout pass, if he beis in the land, that I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah.
23:24 AndThen they arose, and went to Ziph before Saul:. butNow David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the Arabah onto the south of the desertJeshimon.
23:25 AndWhen Saul and his men went to seek him., And they told David:, whereforeand he came down to the rock, and abodestayed in the wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard thatit, he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.
23:26 And Saul went on thisone side of the mountain, and David and his men on thatthe other side of the mountain:; and David madewas hastehurrying to get away forfrom fear of Saul;, for Saul and his men compassedwere surrounding David and his men round about to takeseize them.
23:27 But there came a messenger untocame to Saul, saying, HasteHurry thee, and come;, for the Philistines have made a raid uponon the land.
23:28 So Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went againstto meet the Philistines:; therefore they called that place Selathe hammahlekothRock of Escape.
23:29 And David went up from thence, there and dweltstayed in the strongholds of En gediEngedi.
24:1 AndNow it came toabout pass, when Saul was returned from followingpursuing the Philistines, thathe it was told him, saying, Behold, David is in the wilderness of En gediEngedi.
24:2 Then Saul took three thousand chosen men outfrom of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men uponin front of the rocksRocks of the wildWild goatsGoats.
24:3 And he came to the sheepcotessheepfolds byon the way, where there was a cave; and Saul went in to coverrelieve his feethimself. Now David and his men were abidingsitting in the innermostinner partsrecesses of the cave.
24:4 And the men of David said untoto him, Behold, this is the day of which Jehovahthe Lord said untoto theeyou, Behold,; I willam deliverabout thineto give your enemy into thyyour hand, and thouyou shaltshall do to him as it shallseems seem good untoto theeyou. Then David arose, and cut off the skirtedge of Sauls robe privilysecretly.
24:5 And it came toabout pass afterward, that Davids heartconscience smotebothered him, because he had cut off the edge of Sauls skirtrobe.
24:6 AndSo he said untoto his men, JehovahFar forbidbe it from me because of the Lord that I should do this thing untoto my Lord, Jehovahsthe Lords anointed, to putstretch forthout my hand against him, seeingsince he is Jehovahsthe Lords anointed.
24:7 SoAnd David checkedpersuaded his men with these words, and suffereddid not allow them not to rise up against Saul. And Saul rosearose, upleft out of the cave, and went on his way.
24:8 Now afterward David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and criedcalled after Saul, saying, My Lord the king.! And when Saul looked behind him, David bowed with his face to the earth, ground and didprostrated obeisancehimself.
24:9 And David said to Saul, WhereforeWhy hearkenestdo thouyou listen to mensthe words of men, saying, Behold, David seekethseeks thyto hurtharm you?
24:10 Behold, this day thineyour eyes have seen how that Jehovahthe Lord had deliveredgiven theeyou totoday day into my hand in the cave:, and some badesaid meto kill thee;you, but minemy eye sparedhad theepity on you; and I said, I will not putstretch forthout my hand against my Lord;, for he is Jehovahsthe Lords anointed.
24:11 MoreoverNow, my father, see,! yeaIndeed, see the skirtedge of thyyour robe in my hand;! forFor in that I cut off the skirtedge of thyyour robe, and killeddid theenot notkill you, know thou and seeperceive that there is neitherno evil noror transgressionrebellion in my handhands, and I have not sinned against theeyou, though thouyou huntestare afterlying in wait for my life to take it.
24:12 JehovahMay the Lord judge between meyou and theeme, and Jehovahmay the Lord avenge me ofon theeyou; but my hand shall not be uponagainst theeyou.
24:13 As saith the proverb of the ancients says, Out of the wicked comethcomes forth wickedness; but my hand shall not be uponagainst theeyou.
24:14 After whom ishas the king of Israel come out? afterWhom whomare dostyou thou pursuepursuing? afterA a dead dog, after a single flea.?
24:15 JehovahThe Lord therefore be judge, and givedecide sentence between meyou and thee,me; and may He see, and plead my cause, and deliver me outfrom ofyour thy hand.
24:16 AndNow it came toabout pass, when David had madefinished an end of speaking these words untoto Saul, that Saul said, Is this thyyour voice, my son David? AndThen Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.
24:17 And he said to David, ThouYou artare more righteous than I; for thouyou hasthave rendereddealt untowell with me good, whereaswhile I have rendereddealt untowickedly theewith evilyou.
24:18 And thouyou hasthave declared thistoday day how that thouyou hasthave dealtdone wellgood withto me, forasmuchthat asthe whenLord Jehovah had delivered me up into thyyour hand, thouand killedstyet meyou did not kill me.
24:19 For if a man findfinds his enemy, will he let him go wellaway awaysafely? whereforeMay Jehovahthe Lord therefore reward theeyou with good in return for thatwhat whichyou thouhave hast done untoto me this day.
24:20 And now, behold, I know that thouyou shaltshall surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in thyyour hand.
24:21 SwearSo now thereforeswear untoto me by Jehovah, the Lord that thouyou wiltwill not cut off my seeddescendants after me, and that thouyou wiltwill not destroy my name outfrom of my fathers househousehold.
24:22 And David swareswore untoto Saul. And Saul went to his home;, but David and his men gatwent them up untoto the stronghold.
25:1 AndThen Samuel died; and all Israel gathered themselves together, and lamentedmourned for him, and buried him inat his house atin Ramah. And David arose, and went down to the wilderness of Paran.
25:2 AndNow there was a man in Maon, whose possessionsbusiness werewas in Carmel; and the man was very greatrich, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats:. andAnd it came about while he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.
25:3 Nownow the mans name of the man was Nabal;, and thehis wifes name ofwas his wife Abigail;. andAnd the woman was ofintelligent good understanding, and ofbeautiful ain beautifulappearance, countenance: but the man was churlishharsh and evil in his doings;dealings, and he was ofa the house of Caleb.Calebite,
25:4 Andthat David heard in the wilderness that Nabal was shearing his sheep.
25:5 AndSo David sent ten young men, and David said untoto the young men, GetGo you up to Carmel, andvisit go to Nabal, and greet him in my name:;
25:6 and thus you shall ye say, toHave hima thatlong liveth in prosperitylife, Peacepeace be untoto theeyou, and peace be to thyyour house, and peace be untoto all that thouyou hasthave.
25:7 And now I have heard that thouyou hasthave shearers:; thynow your shepherds have now been with us, and we didhave themnot noinsulted hurtthem, neithernor washave therethey aughtmissed missinganything unto them, all the whiledays they were in Carmel.
25:8 Ask thyyour young men, and they will tell thee:you. whereforeTherefore let themy young men find favor in thineyour eyes;, for we have come inon a goodfestive day:. Please give, Iwhatever prayyou thee, find whatsoeverat comethhand to thyyour hand, unto thy servants, and to thyyour son David.
25:9 AndWhen when Davids young men came, they spakespoke to Nabal according to all thosethese words in theDavids name; ofthen David, they and ceasedwaited.
25:10 AndBut Nabal answered Davids servants, and said, Who is David? andAnd who is the son of Jesse? thereThere are many servants nowtoday awho daysare thateach breakbreaking away every man from his master.
25:11 Shall I then take my bread, and my water, and my fleshmeat that I have killedslaughtered for my shearers, and give it untoto men ofwhose whomorigin I knowdo not whence they areknow?
25:12 So Davids young men turnedretraced on their way, and went back,; and they came and told him according to all these words.
25:13 And David said untoto his men, GirdEach yeof onyou everygird manon his sword. AndSo theyeach man girded on every man his sword;. andAnd David also girded on his sword:, and thereabout four hundred men went up afterbehind David aboutwhile four hundred men; and two hundred abodestayed bywith the baggage.
25:14 But one of the young men told Abigail, Nabals wife, saying, Behold, David sent messengers outfrom of the wilderness to salutegreet our master;, and he railedscorned at them.
25:15 ButYet the men were very good untoto us, and we were not hurtinsulted, neithernor misseddid we miss anything, as long as we went about with them, whenwhile we were in the fields:.
25:16 theyThey were a wall untoto us both by night and by day, all the whiletime we were with them keepingtending the sheep.
25:17 Now therefore, know and consider what thouyou wiltshould do;, for evil is determinedplotted against our master, and against all his house:household; forand he is such a worthless fellow, man that no one cannotcan speak to him.
25:18 Then Abigail madehurried haste, and took two hundred loaves, of bread and two bottlesjugs of wine, and five sheep readyalready dressed, prepared and five measures of parchedroasted grain, and a hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and laidloaded them on assesdonkeys.
25:19 And she said untoto her young men, Go on before me; behold, I comeam coming after you. But she tolddid not tell her husband Nabal.
25:20 And it wascame so,about as she rodewas riding on her ass, donkey and camecoming down by the coverthidden part of the mountain, that, behold, David and his men camewere coming down toward her; andso she met them.
25:21 Now David had said, Surely in vain I have Iguarded kept all that this fellowman hathhas in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that pertainedbelonged untoto him:; and he hathhas returned me evil for good.
25:22 May God do so untoto the enemies of David, and more also, if by morning I leave ofas allmuch thatas pertainone tomale himof byany thewho morningbelong lightto so much as one man childhim.
25:23 AndWhen when Abigail saw David, she hasted, hurried and alighteddismounted from her assdonkey, and fell before David on her face before David, and bowed herself to the ground.
25:24 And she fell at his feet, and said, UponOn me alone, my Lord, upon me be the iniquity;blame. andAnd please let thyyour handmaid, maidservant I pray thee, speak into thine earsyou, and hearlisten thouto the words of thyyour handmaidmaidservant.
25:25 LetPlease do not let my Lord, Ipay prayattention thee,to regard this worthless fellowman, even Nabal;, for as his name is, so is he;. Nabal is his name, and folly is with him:; but I thyyour handmaidmaidservant sawdid not see the young men of my Lord, whom thouyou didst sendsent.
25:26 Now therefore, my Lord, as Jehovahthe livethLord lives, and as thyyour soul livethlives, seeingsince Jehovahthe hathLord withholdenhas theerestrained you from bloodguiltinessshedding blood, and from avenging thyselfyourself withby thineyour own hand, now thereforethen let thineyour enemies, and themthose thatwho seek evil toagainst my Lord, be as Nabal.
25:27 And now let this presentgift which thyyour servantmaidservant hathhas brought untoto my Lord, let it be given untoto the young men thatwho followaccompany my Lord.
25:28 Forgive,Please Iforgive pray thee, the trespasstransgression of thyyour handmaid:maidservant; for Jehovahthe Lord will certainly make for my Lord aan sureenduring house, because my Lord fightethis fighting the battles of Jehovah;the Lord, and evil shall not be found in theeyou all thyyour days.
25:29 And thoughshould menanyone berise risen up to pursue thee, you and to seek thyyour soullife, yetthen the soullife of my Lord shall be bound in the bundle of lifethe living with Jehovahthe thyLord your God; andbut the soulslives of thineyour enemies, themHe shallwill he sling out, as from the hollow of a sling.
25:30 And it shall come toabout pass, when Jehovahthe Lord shall havedo donefor to my Lord according to all the good that heHe hathhas spoken concerning theeyou, and shall haveappoint appointedyou theeruler prince over Israel,
25:31 that this shallwill benot nocause grief untoor thee,a nortroubled offence of heart untoto my Lord, eitherboth thatby thouhaving hast shed blood without cause, orand thatby my Lord hathhaving avenged himself. AndWhen whenthe JehovahLord shall havedeal dealt well with my Lord, then remember thyyour handmaidmaidservant.
25:32 AndThen David said to Abigail, Blessed be Jehovah, the Lord God of Israel, who sent theeyou this day to meet me:,
25:33 and blessed be thyyour discretiondiscernment, and blessed be thouyou, thatwho hasthave kept me this day from bloodguiltinessbloodshed, and from avenging myself withby minemy own hand.
25:34 For in very deedNevertheless, as Jehovah, the Lord God of Israel, livethlives, who hathhas withholdenrestrained me from hurtingharming theeyou, exceptunless thouyou hadsthad hastedcome andquickly come to meet me, surely there hadwould not have been left untoto Nabal byuntil the morning light soas much as one man childmale.
25:35 So David received offrom her hand thatwhat which she had brought him:, and he said untoto her, Go up in peace to thyyour house; seein peace. See, I have hearkenedlistened to thyyou voice, and havegranted acceptedyour thy personrequest.
25:36 AndThen Abigail came to Nabal;, and, behold, he heldwas holding a feast in his house, like the feast of a king;. andAnd Nabals heart was merry within him, for he was very drunken:drunk; whereforeso she tolddid not tell him nothing, anything lessat orall more, until the morning light.
25:37 AndBut it came toabout pass in the morning, when the wine washad gone out of Nabal, that his wife told him these things, and his heart died within him, andso that he became as a stone.
25:38 And it came to pass about ten days afterlater, it happened that Jehovahthe smoteLord struck Nabal, soand that he died.
25:39 AndWhen when David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, Blessed be Jehovahthe Lord, thatwho hathhas pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and hathhas kept back hisHis servant from evil:. andThe theLord evilhas doingalso ofreturned Nabalthe hathevildoing Jehovahof returnedNabal uponon his own head. AndThen David sent anda spakeproposal concerningto Abigail, to take her toas himhis to wife.
25:40 AndWhen when the servants of David werecame come to Abigail toat Carmel, they spakespoke untoto her, saying, David hathhas sent us untoto theeyou, to take theeyou toas himhis to wife.
25:41 And she arose, and bowed herself with her face to the earth, ground and said, Behold, thyyour handmaidmaidservant is a servantmaid to wash the feet of themy Lords servants of my Lord.
25:42 AndThen Abigail hasted, quickly and arose, and rode uponon ana assdonkey, with her five damselsmaidens ofwho hersattended that followed her; and she wentfollowed after the messengers of David, and became his wife.
25:43 David had also tooktaken Ahinoam of Jezreel;, and they became both ofbecame them his wives.
25:44 Now Saul had given Michal his daughter, Davids wife, to Palti the son of Laish, who was offrom Gallim.
26:1 AndThen the Ziphites came untoto Saul toat Gibeah, saying, DothIs not David hidehiding himselfon in the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desertJeshimon?
26:2 ThenSo Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having with him three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seeksearch for David in the wilderness of Ziph.
26:3 And Saul encampedcamped in the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desertJeshimon, bybeside the way.road, Butand David abodewas staying in the wilderness,. andWhen he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.,
26:4 David therefore sent out spies, and understoodhe knew that Saul was comedefinitely of a certaintycoming.
26:5 And David then arose, and came to the place where Saul had encamped;camped. andAnd David beheldsaw the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captaincommander of his host:army; and Saul laywas withinlying in the placecircle of the wagonscamp, and the people were encampedcamped roundaround about him.
26:6 Then David answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joabs brother to Joab, saying, Who will go down with me to Saul toin the camp? And Abishai said, I will go down with theeyou.
26:7 So David and Abishai came to the people by night:, and, behold, Saul lay sleeping withininside the placecircle of the wagonscamp, with his spear stuck in the ground at his head; and Abner and the people laywere roundlying aboutaround him.
26:8 Then Abishai said Abishai to David, Today God hathhas delivered upyour thine enemy into thyyour hand; this day: now therefore, please let me smitestrike him, I pray thee, with the spear to the earthground atwith one stroke, and I will not smitestrike him the second time.
26:9 AndBut David said to Abishai, DestroyDo not destroy him, not; for who can putstretch forthout his hand against Jehovahsthe Lords anointed, and be guiltlesswithout guilt?
26:10 And David also said, As Jehovahthe livethLord lives, Jehovahsurely the Lord will smitestrike him;, or his day shallwill come tothat die;he dies, or he shallwill go down into battle and perish.
26:11 JehovahThe Lord forbid that I should putstretch forthout my hand against Jehovahsthe Lords anointed:; but now please take, I pray thee, the spear that is at his head, and the crusejug of water, and let us go.
26:12 So David took the spear and the crusejug of water from beside Sauls head;, and they gatwent them away:, andbut no manone saw it,or nor knew it, neithernor did any awake;, for they were all asleep, because a deepsound sleep from Jehovahthe wasLord had fallen uponon them.
26:13 Then David wentcrossed over to the other side, and stood on the top of the mountain afarat off;a distance with a greatlarge spacearea being between them;.
26:14 andAnd David criedcalled to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, AnswerestWill thouyou not answer, Abner? Then Abner answered and said, Who artare thouyou thatwho criestcalls to the king?
26:15 AndSo David said to Abner, ArtAre you not thou a valiant man? andAnd who is like toyou thee in Israel? whereforeWhy then hasthave thouyou not keptguarded watchyour over thy Lord the king? forFor there came one of the people incame to destroy the king thyyour Lord.
26:16 This thing isthat notyou goodhave thatdone thouis hastnot donegood. As Jehovahthe livethLord lives, yeall areof worthyyou tomust surely die, because yeyou havedid not keptguard watch over your Lord, Jehovahsthe Lords anointed. And now, see where the kings spear is, and the crusejug of water that was at his head.
26:17 AndThen Saul knewrecognized Davids voice, and said, Is this thyyour voice, my son David? And David said, It is my voice, my Lord, Othe king.
26:18 AndHe healso said, WhereforeWhy doththen is my Lord pursuepursuing after his servant? forFor what have I done? orOr what evil is in my hand?
26:19 Now therefore, Iplease pray thee, let my Lord the king hearlisten to the words of his servant. If itthe beLord Jehovahhas that hath stirred theeyou up against me, let himHim accept an offering:; but if it beis the children of men, cursed beare they before Jehovah;the Lord, for they have driven me out thistoday day that I should nothave cleaveno untoattachment with the inheritance of Jehovahthe Lord, saying, Go, serve other gods.
26:20 Now thereforethen, letdo not let my blood fall to the earthground away from the presence of Jehovah:the Lord; for the king of Israel ishas come out to seeksearch for a single flea, just as when one dothhunts hunt a partridge in the mountains.
26:21 Then Saul said Saul, I have sinned:. returnReturn, my son David;, for I will nonot moreharm doyou theeagain harm, because my life was precious in thineyour eyessight this day:. beholdBehold, I have played the fool, and have erredcommitted exceedinglya serious error.
26:22 And David answered and said, Behold the spear, Oof the king! Now let then one of the young men come over and fetchtake it.
26:23 And Jehovahthe Lord will renderrepay toeach every man for his righteousness and his faithfulness; forasmuchfor asthe JehovahLord delivered theeyou into my hand to daytoday, andbut I wouldrefused notto putstretch forthout my hand against Jehovahsthe Lords anointed.
26:24 And,Now behold, as thyyour life was muchhighly setvalued byin my sight this day in mine eyes, so letmay my life be muchhighly setvalued by in the eyessight of Jehovahthe Lord, and letmay himHe deliver me outfrom of all tribulationdistress.
26:25 Then Saul said to David, Blessed beare thouyou, my son David:; thouyou shaltwill both doaccomplish mightily, much and shalt surely prevail. So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.
27:1 AndThen David said into his hearthimself, Now I shallwill now perish one day by the hand of Saul:. thereThere is nothing better for me than thatto I should escape into the land of the Philistines;. and Saul then will despair of me,searching tofor seek me anyanymore more in all the bordersterritory of Israel:, soand shall I will escape outfrom of his hand.
27:2 AndSo David arose, and passedcrossed over, he and the six hundred men thatwho were with him, untoto Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath.
27:3 And David dweltlived with Achish at Gath, he and his men, everyeach man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabals wifewidow.
27:4 AndNow it was told Saul that David washad fled to Gath:, andso he sought no morelonger againsearched for him.
27:5 AndThen David said untoto Achish, If now I have found favor in thineyour eyessight, let them give me a place in one of the cities in the country, that I may dwelllive there:; for why should thyyour servant dwelllive in the royal city with theeyou?
27:6 ThenSo Achish gave him Ziklag that day:; whereforetherefore Ziklag pertainethhas untobelonged to the kings of Judah untoto this day.
27:7 And the number of the days that David dweltlived in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months.
27:8 AndNow David and his men went up, and maderaided a raid upon the Geshurites, and the Girzites, and the Amalekites; for thosethey nations were the inhabitants of the land, whofrom wereancient of oldtimes, as thouyou goestcome to Shur, even untoas far as the land of Egypt.
27:9 And David smoteattacked the land, and saveddid neithernot leave a man noror a woman alive, and he took away the sheep, and the oxencattle, and the assesdonkeys, and the camels, and the apparel;clothing. andThen he returned, and came to Achish.
27:10 AndNow Achish said, AgainstWhere whom have yeyou made a raid to daytoday? And David said, Against the SouthNegev of Judah, and against the SouthNegev of the Jerahmeelites, and against the SouthNegev of the Kenites.
27:11 And David saveddid neithernot leave a man noror a woman alive, to bring them to Gath, saying, Lest they should tell ofabout us, saying, So didhas David, done and so hathhas been his mannerpractice all the whiletime he hathhas dweltlived in the country of the Philistines.
27:12 AndSo Achish believed David, saying, He hathhas surely made himself odious among his people Israel utterly to abhor him; therefore he shallwill bebecome my servant for everforever.
28:1 AndNow it came toabout pass in those days, that the Philistines gathered their hostsarmed togethercamps for warfarewar, to fight withagainst Israel. And Achish said untoto David, Know thou assuredly, that thouyou shaltwill go out with me in the hostcamp, thouyou and thyyour men.
28:2 And David said to Achish, ThereforeVery thouwell, shaltyou shall know what thyyour servant willcan do. AndSo Achish said to David, ThereforeVery willwell, I will make theeyou keeper of my headbodyguard for everlife.
28:3 Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had putremoved awayfrom the land those thatwho hadwere familiarmediums spirits, and the wizards, out of the landspiritists.
28:4 AndSo the Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and encampedcamped in Shunem:; and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they encampedcamped in Gilboa.
28:5 AndWhen when Saul saw the hostcamp of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled greatly.
28:6 AndWhen when Saul inquired of Jehovahthe Lord, Jehovahthe answeredLord himdid not answer him, neithereither by dreams, noror by Urim, noror by prophets.
28:7 Then Saul said Saulto unto his servants, Seek for me a woman thatwho hathis a familiar spiritmedium, that I may go to her, and inquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman thatwho hathis a familiarmedium spirit at En dor.
28:8 AndThen Saul disguised himself, andby putputting on other raimentclothes, and went, he and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night:; and he said, DivineConjure untoup for me, I pray theeplease, byand thebring familiarup spirit, for and bring me upwhom whomsoever I shall name untoto theeyou.
28:9 AndBut the woman said untoto him, Behold, thouyou knowestknow what Saul hathhas done, how he hathhas cut off those thatwho haveare familiarmediums spirits, and thespiritists wizards, from out of the land:. whereforeWhy are you then layestlaying thou a snare for my life, to causebring meabout tomy diedeath?
28:10 And Saul swarevowed to her by Jehovahthe Lord, saying, As Jehovahthe livethLord lives, there shall no punishment happencome toupon theeyou for this thing.
28:11 Then said the woman said, Whom shall I bring up untofor theeyou? And he said, Bring me up Samuel for me.
28:12 AndWhen when the woman saw Samuel, she cried out with a loud voice; and the woman spakespoke to Saul, saying, Why hasthave thouyou deceived me? forFor thouyou artare Saul.
28:13 And the king said untoto her, BeDo not be afraid:; forbut what seestdo thouyou see? And the woman said untoto Saul, I see a goddivine being coming up out of the earth.
28:14 And he said untoto her, What form is hehis ofform? And she said, An old man comethis coming up;, and he is coveredwrapped with a robe. And Saul perceivedknew that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground, and did obeisancehomage.
28:15 AndThen Samuel said to Saul, Why hasthave thouyou disquieteddisturbed me, toby bringbringing me up? And Saul answered, I am soregreatly distressed; for the Philistines makeare waging war against me, and God ishas departed from me, and answerethanswers me no more, neithereither bythrough prophets, noror by dreams:; therefore I have called theeyou, that thouyou mayestmay make known untoto me what I shallshould do.
28:16 And Samuel said, WhereforeWhy then dostdo thouyou ask of me, seeingsince Jehovahthe isLord has departed from thee, you and ishas become thineyour adversary?
28:17 And Jehovahthe hathLord has done untoaccordingly thee, as heHe spakespoke bythrough me:; andfor Jehovahthe hathLord renthas torn the kingdom out of thyyour hand, and given it to thyyour neighbor, even to David.
28:18 BecauseAs thouyou obeyedstdid not obey the voiceLord of Jehovah, and didstdid not execute hisHis fierce wrath uponon Amalek, thereforeso haththe JehovahLord has done this thing untoto theeyou this day.
28:19 Moreover Jehovahthe Lord will deliveralso give over Israel alsoalong with theeyou into the handhands of the Philistines;, andtherefore totomorrow morrowyou shalt thou and thyyour sons will be with me:. JehovahIndeed the Lord will delivergive over the hostarmy of Israel also into the handhands of the Philistines.!
28:20 Then Saul immediately fell straightway his full length upon the earth, ground and was sorevery afraid, because of the words of Samuel:; andalso there was no strength in him;, for he had eaten no breadfood all the day, norand all the night.
28:21 And the woman came untoto Saul, and saw that he was sore troubledterrified, and said untoto him, Behold, thyyour handmaidmaidservant hathhas hearkenedobeyed unto thy voiceyou, and I have puttaken my life in my hand, and have hearkenedlistened untoto thyyour words which thouyou spakestspoke untoto me.
28:22 NowSo therefore, now I pray theealso, hearkenplease thoulisten alsoto unto the voice of thyyour handmaidmaidservant, and let me set a morselpiece of bread before thee;you andthat eat,you thatmay thoueat mayestand have strength, when thouyou goestgo on thyyour way.
28:23 But he refused, and said, I will not eat. ButHowever, his servants, together with the woman, constrainedurged him;, and he hearkenedlistened untoto their voicethem. So he arose from the earth, ground and sat uponon the bed.
28:24 And the woman had a fattedfattened calf in the house;, and she hasted, quickly andslaughtered killed it; and she took flour, and kneaded it, and didbaked bake unleavened bread thereof:from it.
28:25 andAnd she brought it before Saul, and before his servants;, and they did eatate. Then they rosearose up, and went away that night.
29:1 Now the Philistines gathered together all their hostsarmies to Aphek:, andwhile the Israelites encampedwere camping by the fountainspring which is in Jezreel.
29:2 And the Lords of the Philistines passedwere proceeding on by hundreds, and by thousands;, and David and his men passedwere proceeding on in the rearwardrear with Achish.
29:3 Then said the princescommanders of the Philistines said, What doare these Hebrews doing here? And Achish said untoto the princescommanders of the Philistines, Is this not this David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, who hathhas been with me these days, or rather these years, and I have found no fault in him sincefrom the day he felldeserted awayto unto me untoto this day?
29:4 But the princescommanders of the Philistines were wrothangry with him;, and the princescommanders of the Philistines said untoto him, Make the man returngo back, that he may goreturn back to his place where thouyou hasthave appointedassigned him, and do not let him not go down to battle with us to battle, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us:. forFor wherewithwith shouldwhat could this fellowman reconcilemake himself untoacceptable to his Lord? shouldWould it not be with the heads of these men?
29:5 Is this not this David, of whom they sangsing onein tothe another in dances, saying, Saul hathhas slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands ?
29:6 Then Achish called David, and said untoto him, As Jehovahthe livethLord lives, thouyou hasthave been upright, and thyyour going out and thyyour coming in with me in the hostarmy isare goodpleasing in my sight; for I have not found evil in theeyou sincefrom the day of thyyour coming untoto me untoto this day:. neverthelessNevertheless, you are not pleasing in the Lordssight favorof theethe notLords.
29:7 WhereforeNow nowtherefore return, and go in peace, that thouyou displeasemay not displease the Lords of the Philistines.
29:8 And David said untoto Achish, But what have I done? andAnd what hasthave thouyou found in thyyour servant sofrom longthe asday when I havecame been before theeyou untoto this day, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my Lord the king?
29:9 AndBut Achish answered and said to David, I know that thouyou artare goodpleasing in my sight, aslike an angel of God:; notwithstandingnevertheless the princescommanders of the Philistines have said, He shallmust not go up with us to the battle.
29:10 WhereforeNow nowthen risearise up early in the morning with the servants of thyyour Lord thatwho arehave come with thee;you, and as soon as yeyou arehave uparisen early in the morning, and have light, depart.
29:11 So David rosearose up early, he and his men, to depart in the morning, to return intoto the land of the Philistines. And the Philistines went up to Jezreel.
30:1 AndThen it camehappened to pass, when David and his men werecame come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had made a raid uponon the South,Negev and uponon Ziklag, and had smittenoverthrown Ziklag, and burned it with fire,;
30:2 and hadthey takentook captive the women and all thatwho were thereinin it, both small and great:, theywithout slewkilling not anyanyone, butand carried them off, and went their way.
30:3 And when David and his men came to the city, behold, it was burned with fire;, and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, werehad been taken captive.
30:4 Then David and the people thatwho were with him lifted up their voicevoices and wept, until theythere hadwas no morestrength powerin them to weep.
30:5 AndNow Davids two wives werehad been taken captive, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wifewidow of Nabal the Carmelite.
30:6 AndMoreover David was greatly distressed; forbecause the people spakespoke of stoning him, becausefor the soul of all the people waswere grievedembittered, everyeach manone forbecause of his sons and for his daughters:. butBut David strengthened himself in Jehovahthe Lord his God.
30:7 AndThen David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, IPlease pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. AndSo Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.
30:8 And David inquired of Jehovahthe Lord, saying, IfShall I pursue after this troop, band? shallShall I overtake them? And heHe answeredsaid to him, Pursue;, for thouyou shaltshall surely overtake them, and shaltyou withoutshall failsurely recoverrescue all.
30:9 So David went, he and the six hundred men thatwho were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those that were left behind stayedremained.
30:10 But David pursued, he and four hundred men;, for two hundred stayed behind, who were sotoo faintexhausted thatto theycross could not go over the brook Besor, remained behind.
30:11 AndNow they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he didate, eat; and they gaveprovided him water to drink;.
30:12 andAnd they gave him a piece of afig cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins:, and when he hadate; eaten, then his spirit camerevived. againFor to him; for he had not eaten no bread, noror drunk any water, for three days and three nights.
30:13 And David said untoto him, To whom belongestdo thouyou belong? andAnd whencewhere artare thouyou from? And he said, I am a young man of Egypt, a servant toof an Amalekite; and my master left me, becausebehind threewhen days ago I fell sick three days ago.
30:14 We made a raid uponon the SouthNegev of the Cherethites, and uponon that which belongethbelongs to Judah, and uponon the SouthNegev of Caleb;, and we burned Ziklag with fire.
30:15 AndThen David said to him, WiltWill thouyou bring me down to this troopband? And he said, Swear untoto me by God, that thouyou wiltwill neithernot kill me, noror deliver me up into the hands of my master, and I will bring theeyou down to this troopband.
30:16 And when he had brought him down, behold, they were spread abroad over all the groundland, eating and drinking, and dancing, because of all the great spoil that they had taken outfrom of the land of the Philistines, and outfrom of the land of Judah.
30:17 And David smoteslaughtered them from the twilight evenuntil unto the evening of the next day:; and there escaped not a man of them escaped, saveexcept four hundred young men, who rode uponon camels and fled.
30:18 AndSo David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken;, and David rescued his two wives.
30:19 AndBut therenothing wasof nothingtheirs lackingwas to themmissing, neitherwhether small noror great, neither sons noror daughters, neither spoil, noror anything that they had taken tofor them:themselves; David brought backit all back.
30:20 AndSo David tookhad captured all the flockssheep and the herds, cattle which theythe people drove beforeahead thoseof the other cattlelivestock, and they said, This is Davids spoil.
30:21 AndWhen David came to the two hundred men, who were sotoo faintexhausted thatto they could not follow David, whomwho also they had madealso tobeen abideleft at the brook Besor;, and they went forthout to meet David, and to meet the people thatwho were with him:, andthen when David cameapproached near to the people, heand salutedgreeted them.
30:22 Then answered all the wicked men and baseworthless fellows, men ofamong those thatwho went with David, answered and said, Because they wentdid not go with us, we will not give them aughtany of the spoil that we have recovered, saveexcept to every man his wife and his children, that hethey may lead them away, and depart.
30:23 Then David said David, YeYou shallmust not do so, my brethrenbrothers, with thatwhat whichthe JehovahLord hathhas given unto us, who hathhas preservedkept us, and delivered into our hand the troopband that came against us into our hand.
30:24 And who will hearkenlisten untoto you in this matter? forFor as his share is thatwho goethgoes down to the battle, so shall his share be thatwho tarriethstays by the baggage:; they shall share alike.
30:25 And so it washas sobeen from that day forward, that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel untoto this day.
30:26 AndNow when David came to Ziklag, he sent some of the spoil untoto the elders of Judah, even to his friends, saying, Behold, a presentgift for you offrom the spoil of the enemies of Jehovahthe Lord:
30:27 to themthose thatwho were in Beth elBethel, and to themthose thatwho were in Ramoth of the SouthNegev, and to themthose thatwho were in Jattir,
30:28 and to themthose thatwho were in Aroer, and to themthose thatwho were in Siphmoth, and to themthose thatwho were in Eshtemoa,
30:29 and to themthose thatwho were in Racal, and to themthose thatwho were in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, and to themthose thatwho were in the cities of the Kenites,
30:30 and to themthose thatwho were in Hormah, and to themthose thatwho were in Bor ashan, and to themthose thatwho were in Athach,
30:31 and to themthose thatwho were in Hebron, and to all the places where David himself and his men were wontaccustomed to hauntgo.
31:1 Now the Philistines foughtwere fighting against Israel:, and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain inon mountMount Gilboa.
31:2 And the Philistines followedovertook hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slewkilled Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi shua, the sons of Saul.
31:3 And the battle went soreheavily against Saul, and the archers overtookhit him; and he was greatlybadly distressedwounded by reason of the archers.
31:4 Then Saul said Saul to his armorbearerarmor bearer, Draw thyyour sword, and thrustpierce me through therewithwith it, lest these uncircumcised come and thrustpierce me through, and abusemake sport of me. But his armorbearerarmor bearer would not;, for he was soregreatly afraid. ThereforeSo Saul took his sword, and fell uponon it.
31:5 And when his armorbearerarmor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewisealso fell uponon his sword, and died with him.
31:6 SoThus Saul died, andwith his three sons, and his armorbearerarmor bearer, and all his men, on that same day together.
31:7 And when the men of Israel thatwho were on the other side of the valley, andwith theythose thatwho were beyond the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel had fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsookabandoned the cities, and fled; andthen the Philistines came and dweltlived in them.
31:8 And it came toabout pass on the morrow, next day when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen inon mountMount Gilboa.
31:9 And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armorweapons, and sent intothem throughout the land of the Philistines round about, to carry the tidingsgood untonews to the house of their idols, and to the people.
31:10 And they put his armorweapons in the housetemple of the Ashtaroth;, and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth shanBethshan.
31:11 AndNow when the inhabitants of Jabesh gilead heard concerningwhat him that which the Philistines had done to Saul,
31:12 all the valiant men arose, rose and wentwalked all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth shan;, and they came to Jabesh, and burntburned them there.
31:13 And they took their bones, and buried them under the tamarisk tree inat Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
