4:33 And he spakespoke of trees, from the cedar that is in Lebanon even untoto the hyssop that springethgrows outon of the wall; he spakespoke also of beasts, animals and of birds, and of creeping things, and of fishesfish.
4:34 And theremen came offrom all peoples to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all the kings of the earth, who had heard of his wisdom.
5:1 AndNow Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants untoto Solomon;, forwhen he had heard that they had anointed him king in theplace room of his father:, for Hiram washad everalways been a loverfriend of David.
5:2 AndThen Solomon sent word to Hiram, saying,
5:3 ThouYou knowestknow how that David my father couldwas notunable to build a house for the name of Jehovahthe Lord his God forbecause of the wars which weresurrounded about him on every side, until Jehovahthe Lord put them under the soles of his feet.
5:4 But now Jehovahthe Lord my God hathhas given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary, nor evil occurrencemisfortune.
5:5 And, behold, I purposeintend to build a house for the name of Jehovahthe Lord my God, as Jehovahthe spakeLord untospoke to David my father, saying, ThyYour son, whom I will set uponon thyyour throne in thyyour roomplace, he shallwill build the house for myMy name.
5:6 Now therefore, command thou that they cut for me cedarcedars treesfrom out of Lebanon;, and my servants shallwill be with thyyour servants; and I will give theeyou hirewages for thyyour servants according to all that thouyou shalt say:, for thouyou knowestknow that there is notno one among us anywho thatknows knoweth how to cut timber like unto the Sidonians.
5:7 And it came toabout pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be Jehovahthe thisLord daytoday, who hathhas given untoto David a wise son over this great people.
5:8 AndSo Hiram sent word to Solomon, saying, I have heard the message which thouyou hasthave sent unto me:; I will do allwhat thyyou desire concerning timberthe of cedar, and concerningcypress timber of fir.
5:9 My servants shallwill bring them down from Lebanon untoto the sea; and I will make them into rafts to go by sea untoto the place thatwhere thouyou shaltdirect appoint me, and I will causehave them to be broken up there, and thouyou shaltshall receivecarry them; andaway. thouThen shaltyou shall accomplish my desire, inby giving food forto my household.
5:10 So Hiram gave Solomon timberas ofmuch cedaras andhe timberdesired of firthe accordingcedar toand allcypress his desiretimber.
5:11 And Solomon then gave Hiram twenty20,000 thousandkors measures of wheat foras food tofor his household, and twenty measureskors of purebeaten oil:; thus gave Solomon towould give Hiram year by year.
5:12 And Jehovahthe Lord gave wisdom to Solomon wisdom, just as heHe promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon;, and theythe two of them made a league togethercovenant.
5:13 AndNow kingKing Solomon raisedlevied aforced levylaborers outfrom of all Israel; and the levyforced waslaborers thirtynumbered thousand30,000 men.
5:14 And he sent them to Lebanon, ten10,000 thousand a month byin coursesrelays; a month they were in Lebanon, a month and two months at home:. andAnd Adoniram was over the menforced subject to taskworklaborers.
5:15 AndNow Solomon had threescore70,000 and ten thousand that bare burdenstransporters, and fourscore80,000 thousandhewers thatof werestone hewers in the mountains;,
5:16 besides Solomons 3,300 chief officersdeputies thatwho were over the work, project three thousand and three hundred, who bareruled rule over the people thatwho wroughtwere indoing the work.
5:17 AndThen the king commanded, and they hewedquarried out great stones, costly stones, to lay the foundation of the house with wroughtcut stonestones.
5:18 AndSo Solomons builders and Hirams builders and the Gebalites didcut fashion them, and prepared the timbertimbers and the stones to build the house.
6:1 AndNow it came toabout pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the childrensons of Israel werecame come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomons reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of Jehovahthe Lord.
6:2 AndAs for the house which kingKing Solomon built for Jehovahthe Lord, theits length thereof was threescoresixty cubits, and theits breadthwidth thereof twenty cubits, and theits height thereof thirty cubits.
6:3 And the porch beforein front of the templenave of the house, was twenty cubits wasin the length thereof, accordingcorresponding to the breadthwidth of the house;, and tenits cubitsdepth wasalong the breadthfront thereofof before the house was ten cubits.
6:4 AndAlso for the house he made windows ofwith fixedartistic lattice workframes.
6:5 And against the wall of the house he built stories roundencompassing about, against the walls of the house roundaround about, both of the templenave and of the oracleinner sanctuary; andthus he made side chambers roundall aboutaround.
6:6 The nethermostlowest story was five cubits broadwide, and the middle was six cubits broadwide, and the third was seven cubits broadwide; for on the outside he made offsets in the wall of the house roundall about, around in order that the beams should not havebe holdinserted in the walls of the house.
6:7 And the house, whenwhile it was inbeing buildingbuilt, was built of stone madeprepared ready at the quarry;, and there was neither hammer nor axe nor any iron tool of iron heard in the house, while it was inbeing buildingbuilt.
6:8 The doordoorway for the middlelowest side chamberschamber was inon the right side of the house:; and they wentwould go up by winding stairs intoto the middle story, and outfrom of the middle intoto the third.
6:9 So he built the house, and finished it; and he covered the house with beams and planks of cedar.
6:10 AndHe healso built the stories against all the whole house, each five cubits high:; and they restedwere onfastened to the house with timbertimbers of cedar.
6:11 AndNow the word of Jehovahthe Lord came to Solomon, saying,
6:12 Concerning this house which thouyou artare building, if thouyou wiltwill walk in myMy statutes, and execute mineMy ordinances, and keep all myMy commandments toby walkwalking in them;, then I will Icarry establishout myMy word with thee, you which I spakespoke untoto David thyyour father.
6:13 And I will dwell among the childrensons of Israel, and will not forsake myMy people Israel.
6:14 So Solomon built the house, and finished it.
6:15 AndThen he built the walls of the house withinon the inside with boards of cedar:; from the floor of the house untoto the walls of the ceiling, he coveredoverlaid themthe walls on the inside with wood;, and he coveredoverlaid the floor of the house with boards of fircypress.
6:16 And he built twenty cubits on the hinderrear part of the house with boards of cedar from the floor untoto the walls of the ceiling:; he built them for it within,on forthe inside as an oracleinner sanctuary, even foras the most holy place.
6:17 And the house, that is, the templenave beforein front of the oracleinner sanctuary, was forty cubits long.
6:18 And there was cedar on the house within, carved within knopsthe shape of gourds and open flowers:; all was cedar;, there was no stone seen.
6:19 AndThen he prepared an oracleinner insanctuary thewithin midst of the house within,in order to setplace there the ark of the covenant of Jehovahthe Lord.
6:20 And within the oracleinner sanctuary was a space of twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadthwidth, and twenty cubits in the height, thereof; and he overlaid it with pure gold:. andHe healso coveredoverlaid the altar with cedar.
6:21 So Solomon overlaid the inside of the house within with pure gold:. andAnd he drew chains of gold across beforethe front of the oracleinner sanctuary; and he overlaid it with gold.
6:22 And he overlaid the whole house he overlaid with gold, until all the house was finished:. alsoAlso the whole altar thatwhich belongedwas toby the oracleinner sanctuary he overlaid with gold.
6:23 AndAlso in the oracleinner sanctuary he made two cherubim of olive wood, each ten cubits high.
6:24 And five cubits was the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub:; from the uttermostend part of the one wing untoto the uttermostend part of the other wing were ten cubits.
6:25 And the other cherub was ten cubits:; both the cherubim were of onethe same measure and onethe same form.
6:26 The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was it of the other cherub.
6:27 And he setplaced the cherubim withinin the midst of the inner house;, and the wings of the cherubim were stretchedspread forthout, so that the wing of the one touchedwas touching the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touchedwas touching the other wall;. andSo their wings touchedwere onetouching anothereach other in the midstcenter of the house.
6:28 AndHe healso overlaid the cherubim with gold.
6:29 AndThen he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figuresengravings of cherubim, and palm trees, and open flowers, withininner and withoutouter sanctuaries.
6:30 And he overlaid the floor of the house he overlaid with gold, withininner and withoutouter sanctuaries.
6:31 And for the entrance of the oracleinner sanctuary he made doors of olive wood:, the lintel and doorfive postssided were a fifth part of the walldoorposts.
6:32 So he made two doors of olive wood;, and he carved uponon them carvings of cherubim, and palm trees, and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold; and he spread the gold uponon the cherubim, and uponon the palm trees.
6:33 So also he made he for the entrance of the templenave doorfour postssided doorposts of olive wood, out of a fourth part of the wall;
6:34 and two doors of fircypress wood:; the two leaves of the one door wereturned foldingon pivots, and the two leaves of the other door wereturned foldingon pivots.
6:35 And he carved thereonon it cherubim, and palm trees, and open flowers; and he overlaid them with gold fittedevenly uponapplied on the gravenengraved work.
6:36 And he built the inner court with three coursesrows of hewncut stone, and a courserow of cedar beams.
6:37 In the fourth year was the foundation of the house of Jehovahthe Lord was laid, in the month of Ziv.
6:38 And in the eleventh year, in the month of Bul, which is the eighth month, was the house was finished throughout all theits parts thereof, and according to all theits fashion of itplans. So he was he seven years in building it.
7:1 AndNow Solomon was building his own house thirteen years, and he finished all his house.
7:2 ForAnd he built the house of the forest of Lebanon; theits length thereof was a100 hundred cubits, and theits breadthwidth thereof50 fifty cubits, and theits height thereof30 thirty cubits, uponon four rows of cedar pillars, with cedar beams uponon the pillars.
7:3 And it was coveredpaneled with cedar above over the fortyside andchambers fivewhich beams, that were uponon the 45 pillars;, fifteen15 in aeach row.
7:4 And there were beamsartistic window frames in three rows, and window was overopposite against window in three ranks.
7:5 And all the doorsdoorways and postsdoorposts werehad madesquared squareartistic withframes, beams: and window was overopposite against window in three ranks.
7:6 AndThen he made the porchhall of pillars; theits length thereof was fifty50 cubits, and theits breadthwidth thereof30 thirty cubits;, and a porch beforewas in front of them; and pillars and a threshold beforein front of them.
7:7 And he made the porchhall of the throne where he was to judge, even the porchhall of judgment:, and it was coveredpaneled with cedar from floor to floor.
7:8 And his house where he was to dwelllive, the other court withininward from the porchhall, was of the likesame workworkmanship. He also made also a house like this hall for Pharaohs daughter, whom Solomon had taken to wife, like unto this porchmarried.
7:9 All these were of costly stones, even of hewn stone, cut according to measure, sawed with saws, withininside and without, outside; even from the foundation untoto the coping, and so on the outside untoto the great court.
7:10 And the foundation was of costly stones, even greatlarge stones, stones of ten cubits, and stones of eight cubits.
7:11 And above were costly stones, evenstone hewncut stone, according to measure, and cedar wood.
7:12 AndSo the great court roundall aboutaround had three coursesrows of hewncut stone, and a courserow of cedar beams; likeeven as the inner court of the house of Jehovahthe Lord, and the porch of the house.
7:13 AndNow kingKing Solomon sent and fetchedbrought Hiram outfrom of Tyre.
7:14 He was thea widows son offrom a widow of the tribe of Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a worker in brassbronze; and he was filled with wisdom and understanding and skill, tofor workdoing allany workswork in brassbronze. AndSo he came to kingKing Solomon, and wroughtperformed all his work.
7:15 ForAnd he fashioned the two pillars of brass, bronze; eighteen cubits highwas apiece:the height of one pillar, and a line of twelve cubits compassedmeasured eitherthe circumference of them aboutboth.
7:16 AndHe healso made two capitals of molten brass, bronze to set uponon the tops of the pillars:; the height of the one capital was five cubits, and the height of the other capital was five cubits.
7:17 There were nets of checkernetwork work, and wreathstwisted threads of chainchainwork work, for the capitals which were uponon the top of the pillars; seven for the one capital, and seven for the other capital.
7:18 So he made the pillars;, and there were two rows roundaround abouton upon the one network, to cover the capitals thatwhich were uponon the top of the pillars:pomegranates; and so he did he for the other capital.
7:19 And the capitals thatwhich were uponon the top of the pillars in the porch were of lily workdesign, four cubits.
7:20 And there were capitals aboveon also upon the two pillars, even above and close byto the bellyrounded projection which was beside the network:; and the pomegranates werenumbered two hundred, in rows roundaround aboutboth upon the other capitalcapitals.
7:21 AndThus he set up the pillars at the porch of the temple:nave; and he set up the right pillar, and callednamed theit name thereof Jachin;, and he set up the left pillar, and callednamed theit name thereof Boaz.
7:22 And uponon the top of the pillars was lily work:design. soSo was the work of the pillars was finished.
7:23 AndNow he made the molten sea of cast metal ten cubits from brim to brim, roundcircular in compassform, and theits height thereof was five cubits;, and a line of thirty cubits compassedin it round aboutcircumference.
7:24 And under theits brim ofgourds itwent roundaround aboutencircling thereit wereten knopsto whicha did compass itcubit, forcompletely tensurrounding cubits, compassing the sea; round about: the knopsgourds were in two rows, cast whenwith itthe was castrest.
7:25 It stood uponon twelve oxen, three lookingfacing toward the north, and three lookingfacing toward the west, and three lookingfacing toward the south, and three lookingfacing toward the east; and the sea was set uponon top of them above, and all their hinderrear parts wereturned inward.
7:26 And it was a handbreadth thick:, and theits brim thereof was wroughtmade like the brim of a cup, likeas the flower of a lily: blossom; it heldcould hold two thousand baths.
7:27 AndThen he made the ten basesstands of brassbronze; four cubits was the length of oneeach base, stand andwas four cubits theand breadthits thereof, width andfour three cubits theand its height ofthree itcubits.
7:28 And this was the workdesign of the bases was on this mannerstands: they had panels;borders, andeven thereborders were panels between the ledges;frames,
7:29 and on the panelsborders thatwhich were between the ledgesframes were lions, oxen, and cherubim; and uponon the ledgesframes there was a pedestal above;, and beneath the lions and oxen were wreaths of hanging work.
7:30 AndNow everyeach basestand had four brazenbronze wheels, andwith bronze axles, of brass; and theits four feet thereof had undersetters:supports; beneath the laverbasin were thecast undersetterssupports molten, with wreaths at theeach side of each.
7:31 And theits mouthopening ofinside itthe withincrown at the capitaltop and above was a cubit:, and theits mouthopening thereof was round afterlike the workdesign of a pedestal, a cubit and a half; and also uponon theits mouthopening ofthere it were gravingsengravings, and their panelsborders were foursquaresquare, not round.
7:32 And the four wheels were underneath the panels;borders, and the axletreesaxles of the wheels were inon the base:stand. andAnd the height of a wheel was a cubit and half a cubithalf.
7:33 And the workworkmanship of the wheels was like the workworkmanship of a chariot wheel:. theirTheir axletreesaxles, and their felloesrims, and their spokes, and their naves, hubs were all moltencast.
7:34 AndNow there were four undersetterssupports at the four corners of each base:stand; theits undersetterssupports thereof were part of the basestand itself.
7:35 And inon the top of the basestand there was there a roundcircular compassform half a cubit high;, and on the top of the basestand theits stays thereof and theits panelsborders thereof were part of the sameit.
7:36 And he engraved on the plates of theits stays thereof, and on theits panels thereofborders, he graved cherubim, lions, and palm trees, according to the clear space ofon each, with wreaths roundall aboutaround.
7:37 AfterHe this manner he made the ten basesstands like this: all of them had one casting, one measure, and one form.
7:38 And he made ten laversbasins of brass:bronze, one laverbasin containedheld forty baths; andeach everybasin laver was four cubits;, and uponon everyeach one of the ten basesstands was one laverbasin.
7:39 AndThen he set the basesstands, five on the right side of the house, and five on the left side of the house:; and he set the sea of cast metal on the right side of the house eastward, toward the south.
7:40 AndNow Hiram made the lavers, basins and the shovels, and the basinsbowls. So Hiram madefinished an end of doing all the work thatwhich he wroughtperformed for kingKing Solomon in the house of Jehovahthe Lord:
7:41 the two pillars, and the two bowls of the capitals thatwhich were on the top of the two pillars;, and the two networks to cover the two bowls of the capitals thatwhich were on the top of the pillars;
7:42 and the four hundred pomegranates for the two networks;, two rows of pomegranates for each network, to cover the two bowls of the capitals thatwhich were uponon the tops of the pillars;
7:43 and the ten bases,stands andwith the ten laversbasins on the basesstands;
7:44 and the one sea, and the twelve oxen under the sea;
7:45 and the pots, pails and the shovels, and the basins:bowls; even all these vessels, utensils which Hiram made for kingKing Solomon, in the house of Jehovah, the Lord were of burnishedpolished brassbronze.
7:46 In the plain of the Jordan did the king cast them, in the clay ground between Succoth and Zarethan.
7:47 And Solomon left all the vesselsutensils unweighed, because they were exceedingtoo many:; the weight of the brassbronze could not be found outascertained.
7:48 And Solomon made all the vesselsfurniture thatwhich werewas in the house of Jehovahthe Lord: the golden altar, and the golden table whereuponon which was the showbreadbread was, of goldthe Presence;
7:49 and the candlestickslampstands, five on the right side, and five on the left, beforein front of the oracleinner sanctuary, of pure gold; and the flowers, and the lamps, and the tongs, of gold;
7:50 and the cups, and the snuffers, and the basins, bowls and the spoons, and the firepans, of pure gold; and the hinges, both for the doors of the inner house, the most holy place, and for the doors of the house, tothat witis, of the templenave, of gold.
7:51 Thus all the work that kingKing Solomon wroughtperformed in the house of Jehovahthe Lord was finished. And Solomon brought in the things whichdedicated Davidby his father had dedicatedDavid, even the silver, and the gold, and the vesselsutensils, and he put them in the treasuries of the house of Jehovahthe Lord.
8:1 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the princesleaders of the fathers houseshouseholds of the childrensons of Israel, untoto kingKing Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of Jehovahthe outLord offrom the city of David, which is Zion.
8:2 And all the men of Israel assembled themselves untoto kingKing Solomon at the feast, in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month.
8:3 AndThen all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark.
8:4 And they brought up the ark of Jehovah, the Lord and the tent of meeting, and all the holy vesselsutensils, thatwhich were in the Tent;tent, evenand these did the priests and the Levites bringbrought them up.
8:5 And kingKing Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, thatwho were assembled untoto him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing so many sheep and oxen, thatthey could not be counted noror numbered for multitude.
8:6 AndThen the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of Jehovahthe untoLord to its place, into the oracleinner sanctuary of the house, to the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubim.
8:7 For the cherubim spread forth their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubim coveredmade a covering over the ark and theits stavespoles thereoffrom above.
8:8 AndBut the stavespoles were so long that the ends of the stavespoles werecould be seen from the holy place before the oracle;inner sanctuary, but they werecould not be seen without:outside; and there they are untothere to this day.
8:9 There was nothing in the ark saveexcept the two tablestablets of stone which Moses put there at Horeb, whenwhere Jehovahthe Lord made a covenant with the childrensons of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.
8:10 And it came toabout pass, when the priests werecame comefrom out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of Jehovahthe Lord,
8:11 so that the priests could not stand to minister bybecause reason of the cloud;, for the glory of Jehovahthe Lord filled the house of Jehovahthe Lord.
8:12 Then spakeSolomon Solomonsaid, JehovahThe hathLord has said that heHe would dwell in the thick darknesscloud.
8:13 I have surely built theeThee a lofty house of habitation, aA place for theeThy todwelling dwell in for everforever.
8:14 AndThen the king turnedfaced his face about, and blessed all the assembly of Israel:, andwhile all the assembly of Israel stoodwas standing.
8:15 And he said, Blessed be Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel, who spakespoke with hisHis mouth untoto Davidmy thy father, David and hathhas fulfilled it with hisHis hand fulfilled it, saying,
8:16 Since the day that I brought forthMy my people Israel outfrom of Egypt, I chosedid nonot choose a city out of all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house, that myMy name might be there;, but I chose David to be over myMy people Israel.
8:17 Now it was in the heart of David my father David to build a house for the name of Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel.
8:18 But Jehovahthe Lord said untoto David my father David, WhereasBecause it was in thyyour heart to build a house for myMy name, thouyou didstdid well that it was in thyyour heart:.
8:19 neverthelessNevertheless thouyou shaltshall not build the house;, but thyyour son thatwho shall comebe forthborn outto of thy loinsyou, he shall build the house for myMy name.
8:20 AndNow Jehovahthe hathLord establishedhas hisfulfilled His word thatwhich heHe spakespoke; for I amhave risen up in theplace room of David my father, David and sit on the throne of Israel, as Jehovahthe Lord promised, and have built the house for the name of Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel.
8:21 And there I have I set a place for the ark, whereinin which is the covenant of Jehovahthe Lord, which heHe made with our fathers, when heHe brought them outfrom of the land of Egypt.
8:22 AndThen Solomon stood before the altar of Jehovahthe Lord in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread forthout his hands toward heaven;.
8:23 andAnd he said, O JehovahLord, the God of Israel, there is no God like thee,Thee in heaven above, or on earth beneath;, who keepestart keeping covenant and showing lovingkindness withto thyThy servants, thatwho walk before theeThee with all their heart;,
8:24 who hast kept with thyThy servant, David my father David, that which thouThou didsthast promisepromised him:; yeaindeed, thouThou spakesthast spoken with thyThy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thyThy hand, as it is this day.
8:25 Now therefore, O JehovahLord, the God of Israel, keep with thyThy servant David my father that which thouThou hast promised him, saying, ThereYou shall not faillack thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel, if only thyyour childrensons take heed to their way, to walk before meMe as thouyou hasthave walked before me.
8:26 Now therefore, O God of Israel, let thyThy word, I pray theeThee, be verified, confirmed which thouThou spakesthast untospoken thyto Thy servant, David my father David.
8:27 But will God inindeed very deed dwell on the earth? beholdBehold, heaven and the highest heaven of heavens cannot contain thee;Thee, how much less this house thatwhich I have buildedbuilt!
8:28 Yet have thouregard respectto unto the prayer of thyThy servant, and to his supplication, O JehovahLord my God, to hearkenlisten untoto the cry and to the prayer which thyThy servant prayethprays before theeThee this daytoday;
8:29 that thineThine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place whereofof thouwhich Thou hast said, My name shall be there;, to hearkenlisten untoto the prayer which thyThy servant shall pray toward this place.
8:30 And hearkenlisten thou to the supplication of thyThy servant, and of thyThy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place:; yea, hear thouThou in heaven thyThy dwelling place; hear and when thou hearest, forgive.
8:31 If a man sinsins against his neighbor, and anis oathmade be laid upon him to causetake himan to swearoath, and he comecomes and sweartakes an oath before thineThine altar in this house;,
8:32 then hear thouThou in heaven, and do,act and judge thyThy servants, condemning the wicked, toby bringbringing his way uponon his own head, and justifying the righteous, toby givegiving him according to his righteousness.
8:33 When thyThy people Israel are smittendefeated down before thean enemy, because they have sinned against thee;Thee, if they turn again to thee,Thee again and confess thyThy name, and pray and make supplication untoto theeThee in this house:,
8:34 then hear thouThou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thyThy people Israel, and bring them againback untoto the land which thouThou gavestdidst untogive to their fathers.
8:35 When heaventhe isheavens are shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee;Thee, ifand they pray toward this place, and confess thyThy name, and turn from their sin, when thouThou dost afflict them:,
8:36 then hear thouThou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thyThy servants, and of thyThy people Israel, whenindeed, thouteach teachest them the good way whereinin which they should walk;. andAnd send rain uponon thyThy land, which thouThou hast given toThy thy people for an inheritance.
8:37 If there beis famine in the land famine, if there beis pestilence, if there beis blastingblight or mildew, locust or caterpillar;grasshopper, if their enemy besiegebesieges them in the land of their cities;, whatsoeverwhatever plague, whatsoeverwhatever sickness there be;is,
8:38 whatwhatever prayer andor supplication soeveris be made by any man, or by all thyThy people Israel, whoeach shallknowing know every man the plagueaffliction of his own heart, and spreadspreading forth his hands toward this house:;
8:39 then hear thouThou in heaven thyThy dwelling place, and forgive, and do,act and render untoto everyeach man according to all his ways, whose heart thouThou knowest;, for thou,Thou evenalone thoudost only, know knowest the hearts of all the childrensons of men;,
8:40 that they may fear theeThee all the days that they live in the land which thouThou gavesthast untogiven to our fathers.
8:41 MoreoverAlso concerning the foreigner, thatwho is not of thyThy people Israel, when he shallcomes comefrom out of a far country for thyThy names sake
8:42 for they shallwill hear of thyThy great name, and ofThy thy mighty hand, and of thineThine outstretched arm; when he shallcomes come and prayprays toward this house;,
8:43 hear thouThou in heaven thyThy dwelling place, and do according to all thatfor which the foreigner callethcalls to theeThee, for;in order that all the peoples of the earth may know thyThy name, to fear theeThee, as dothdo thyThy people Israel, and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by thyThy name.
8:44 IfWhen thyThy people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatsoeverwhatever way thouThou shalt send them, and they pray untoto Jehovahthe Lord toward the city which thouThou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thyThy name;,
8:45 then hear thou in heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.
8:46 IfWhen they sin against theeThee for there is no man thatwho sinnethdoes not, sin and thouThou beart angry with them, and dost deliver them to thean enemy, so that they carrytake them away captive untoto the land of the enemy, far off or near;
8:47 yet if they shalltake bethinkthought themselves in the land whitherwhere they arehave carriedbeen taken captive, and turnrepent again, and make supplication untoto theeThee in the land of themthose thatwho carriedhave taken them captive, saying, We have sinned, and have donecommitted perverselyiniquity, we have dealtacted wickedly;
8:48 if they return untoto theeThee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies, who carriedhave taken them captive, and pray untoto theeThee toward their land, which thouThou gavesthast untogiven to their fathers, the city which thouThou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thyThy name:;
8:49 then hear thou their prayer and their supplication in heaven thyThy dwelling place, and maintain their cause;,
8:50 and forgive thyThy people who have sinned against thee,Thee and all their transgressions whereinwhich they have transgressed against thee;Thee, and givemake them objects of compassion before those who carriedhave taken them captive, that they may have compassion on them
8:51 for they are thyThy people, and thineThine inheritance, which thouThou broughtesthast brought forth outfrom of Egypt, from the midst of the iron furnace of iron;,
8:52 that thineThine eyes may be open untoto the supplication of thyThy servant, and untoto the supplication of thyThy people Israel, to hearkenlisten untoto them whensoeverwhenever they crycall untoto theeThee.
8:53 For thouThou didsthast separateseparated them from among all the peoples of the earth, toas beThine thine inheritance, as thouThou spakestdidst byspeak through Moses thyThy servant, when thouThou broughtestdidst bring our fathers outforth offrom Egypt, O Lord JehovahGod.
8:54 And it wascame so,about that, when Solomon had madefinished an end of praying all this entire prayer and supplication untoto Jehovahthe Lord, he arose from before the altar of Jehovahthe Lord, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread forth toward heaven.
8:55 And he stood, and blessed all the assembly of Israel with a loud voice, saying,
8:56 Blessed be Jehovahthe Lord, thatwho hathhas given rest untoto hisHis people Israel, according to all that heHe promised:; there hath not failed one word has failed of all hisHis good promise, which heHe promised bythrough Moses hisHis servant.
8:57 JehovahMay the Lord our God be with us, as heHe was with our fathers:; letmay himHe not leave us, noror forsake us;,
8:58 that heHe may incline our hearts untoto himHimself, to walk in all hisHis ways, and to keep hisHis commandments, and hisHis statutes, and hisHis ordinances, which heHe commanded our fathers.
8:59 And letmay these mywords wordsof mine, wherewithwith which I have made supplication before Jehovahthe Lord, be nighnear untoto Jehovahthe Lord our God day and night, that heHe may maintain the cause of hisHis servant, and the cause of hisHis people Israel, as everyeach day shall require;requires,
8:60 so that all the peoples of the earth may know that Jehovah, the heLord is God; there is noneno one else.
8:61 Let your heart therefore be perfectwholly withdevoted Jehovahto the Lord our God, to walk in hisHis statutes, and to keep hisHis commandments, as at this day.
8:62 AndNow the king, and all Israel with him, offered sacrifice before Jehovahthe Lord.
8:63 And Solomon offered for the sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered untoto Jehovahthe Lord, two22,000 and twenty thousand oxen, and a120,000 hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the childrensons of Israel dedicated the house of Jehovahthe Lord.
8:64 TheOn the same day did the king hallowconsecrated the middle of the court that was before the house of Jehovah;the forLord, because there he offered the burnt offering, and the mealgrain offering, and the fat of the peace offerings,; becausefor the brazenbronze altar that was before Jehovahthe Lord was too littlesmall to receivehold the burnt offering, and the mealgrain offering, and the fat of the peace offerings.
8:65 So Solomon heldobserved the feast at that time, and all Israel with him, a great assembly, from the entrance of Hamath untoto the brook of Egypt, before Jehovahthe Lord our God, for seven days and seven more days, even fourteen days.
8:66 On the eighth day he sent the people away; and they blessed the king,. andThen they went untoto their tents joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that Jehovahthe Lord had showedshown untoto David hisHis servant, and to Israel hisHis people.
9:1 AndNow it came toabout pass, when Solomon had finished the building of the house of Jehovahthe Lord, and the kings house, and all Solomonsthat desireSolomon whichdesired he was pleased to do,
9:2 that Jehovahthe Lord appeared to Solomon thea second time, as heHe had appeared untoto him at Gibeon.
9:3 And Jehovahthe Lord said untoto him, I have heard thyyour prayer and thyyour supplication, thatwhich thouyou hasthave made before me:Me; I have hallowedconsecrated this house, which thouyou hasthave built, toby putputting myMy name there forforever, ever; and mineMy eyes and myMy heart shallwill be there perpetually.
9:4 And as for theeyou, if thouyou wiltwill walk before me,Me as Davidyour thy father David walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, todoing do according to all that I have commanded thee, you and wiltwill keep myMy statutes and mineMy ordinances;,
9:5 then I will establish the throne of thyyour kingdom over Israel for everforever, accordingjust as I promised to Davidyour thyfather fatherDavid, saying, ThereYou shall not faillack thee a man uponon the throne of Israel.
9:6 But if yeyou or your sons shall indeed turn away from following meMe, yeand orshall your children, and not keep myMy commandments and myMy statutes which I have set before you, butand shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;,
9:7 then I will I cut off Israel outfrom of the land which I have given them;, and thisthe house, which I have hallowedconsecrated for myMy name, I will I cast out of myMy sight;. andSo Israel shallwill bebecome a proverb and a byword among all peoples.
9:8 And though this house iswill sobecome high,a yetheap shallof everyruins; oneeveryone thatwho passethpasses by itwill be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hathhas Jehovahthe Lord done thus untoto this land, and to this house?
9:9 andAnd they shallwill answersay, Because they forsook Jehovahthe Lord their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and laidadopted hold on other gods, and worshippedworshiped them, and served them:, therefore haththe JehovahLord has brought all this eviladversity uponon them.
9:10 And it came toabout pass at the end of twenty years, whereinin which Solomon had built the two houses, the house of Jehovahthe Lord and the kings house
9:11 now Hiram the king of Tyre had furnishedsupplied Solomon with cedar trees and fircypress trees, timber and with gold, according to all his desire, that then kingKing Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.
9:12 AndSo Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him;, and they pleaseddid not please him not.
9:13 And he said, What cities are these cities which thouyou hasthave given me, my brother? AndSo hethey were called them the land of Cabul untoto this day.
9:14 And Hiram sent to the king sixscore120 talents of gold.
9:15 AndNow this is the reasonaccount of the levyforced labor which kingKing Solomon raised, levied to build the house of Jehovahthe Lord, and his own house, andthe Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer.
9:16 For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, and takencaptured Gezer, and burntburned it with fire, and slainkilled the Canaanites thatwho dweltlived in the city, and had given it foras a portiondowry untoto his daughter, Solomons wife.
9:17 AndSo Solomon builtrebuilt Gezer, and the lower Beth horon the nether,
9:18 and Baalath, and Tamar in the wilderness, in the land of Judah,
9:19 and all the storestorage cities thatwhich Solomon had, andeven the cities for his chariots, and the cities for his horsemen, and all that whichit pleased Solomon desired to build for his pleasure in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land ofunder his dominionrule.
9:20 As for all the people thatwho were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the childrensons of Israel;,
9:21 their childrendescendants thatwho were left after them in the land, whom the childrensons of Israel were notunable able utterly to destroy utterly, offrom them did Solomon raiselevied aforced levylaborers, ofeven bondservantsto unto this day.
9:22 But ofSolomon thedid childrennot ofmake Israelslaves didof Solomonthe makesons noof bondservantsIsrael; butfor they were the men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and his captains, andhis rulerschariot ofcommanders, his chariots and of his horsemen.
9:23 These were the chief officers thatwho were over Solomons work, five hundred and fifty, who bareruled rule over the people thatdoing wrought in the work.
9:24 ButAs soon as Pharaohs daughter came up outfrom of the city of David untoto her house which Solomon had built for her:, then did he buildbuilt the Millo.
9:25 AndNow three times in a year did Solomon offeroffered burnt offerings and peace offerings uponon the altar which he built untoto Jehovahthe Lord, burning incense therewith, with uponthem on the altar thatwhich was before Jehovahthe Lord. So he finished the house.
9:26 AndKing king Solomon madealso built a navyfleet of ships in Ezion geber, which is besidenear Eloth, on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.
9:27 And Hiram sent inhis theservants navywith histhe servantsfleet, shipmensailors thatwho hadknew knowledge of the sea, along with the servants of Solomon.
9:28 And they camewent to Ophir, and fetchedtook from thence gold, four hundred and twenty talents of gold from there, and brought it to kingKing Solomon.
10:1 AndNow when the queen of Sheba heard ofabout the fame of Solomon concerning the name of Jehovahthe Lord, she came to provetest him with harddifficult questions.
10:2 AndSo she came to Jerusalem with a very greatlarge trainretinue, with camels thatcarrying bare spices, and very much gold, and precious stones;. andWhen when she wascame come to Solomon, she communedspoke with him ofabout all that was in her heart.
10:3 And Solomon toldanswered her all her questions:; therenothing was nothidden anything hid from the king which he tolddid not explain to her not.
10:4 AndWhen when the queen of Sheba hadperceived seen all the wisdom of Solomon, and the house that he had built,
10:5 and the food of his table, and the sittingseating of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, waiters and their apparelattire, and his cupbearers, and his ascentstairway by which he went up untoto the house of Jehovah;the Lord, there was no more spirit in her.
10:6 AndThen she said to the king, It was a true report thatwhich I heard in minemy own land ofabout thineyour acts, words and ofyour thy wisdom.
10:7 HowbeitNevertheless I believeddid not believe the wordsreports, until I came, and minemy eyes had seen it:. and,And behold, the half was not told me;. thyYou exceed in wisdom and prosperity exceed the famereport which I heard.
10:8 HappyHow blessed are thyyour men, happyhow blessed are these thyyour servants, thatwho stand continually before thee, you continually and that hear thyyour wisdom.
10:9 Blessed be Jehovahthe thyLord your God, who delighted in thee, you to set theeyou on the throne of Israel:; because Jehovahthe Lord loved Israel for everforever, therefore He made heyou thee king, to do justice and righteousness.
10:10 And she gave the king a hundred and twenty talents of gold, and ofa spices very great store, amount of spices and precious stones:. thereNever cameagain nodid more such abundance of spices come in as thesethat which the queen of Sheba gave toKing king Solomon.
10:11 And also the navyships also of Hiram, thatwhich brought gold from Ophir, brought in from Ophir a very great plentynumber of almug trees and precious stones.
10:12 And the king made of the almug trees pillarssupports for the house of Jehovah, the Lord and for the kings house, harps also lyres and psalteriesharps for the singers:; theresuch camealmug notrees suchhave almugnot treescome in again, nor werehave they been seen, untoto this day.
10:13 And kingKing Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatsoeverwhich she askedrequested, besides thatwhat whichhe Solomon gave her ofaccording to his royal bounty. SoThen she turned, and went to her own land, shetogether andwith her servants.
10:14 Now the weight of gold thatwhich came in to Solomon in one year was six666 hundred threescore and six talents of gold,
10:15 besides that whichfrom the traders brought, and the trafficwares of the merchants, and of all the kings of the mingledArabs people, and of the governors of the country.
10:16 And kingKing Solomon made two200 hundredlarge bucklersshields of beaten gold;, sixusing hundred600 shekels of gold wenton toeach onelarge bucklershield.
10:17 And he made three300 hundred shields of beaten gold;, using three poundsminas of gold wenton toeach one shield:, and the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon.
10:18 Moreover, the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with therefined finest gold.
10:19 There were six steps to the throne, and thea round top ofto the throne wasat roundits behind;rear, and therearms were stays on eithereach side by the place of the seat, and two lions standing beside the staysarms.
10:20 And twelve lions stoodwere standing there on the six steps on the one side and on the other; uponnothing thelike sixit steps: there was not the like made infor any other kingdom.
10:21 And all kingKing Solomons drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold:. noneNone werewas of silver; it was nothingnot accountedconsidered ofvaluable in the days of Solomon.
10:22 For the king had at sea athe navyships of Tarshish with the navyships of Hiram:; once every three years came the navyships of Tarshish, came bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.
10:23 So kingKing Solomon exceededbecame greater than all the kings of the earth in riches and in wisdom.
10:24 And all the earth soughtwas seeking the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.
10:25 And they brought every man his tributegift, vesselsarticles of silver, and vessels of gold, and raimentgarments, and armorweapons, and spices, horses, and mules, aso ratemuch year by year.
10:26 AndNow Solomon gathered together chariots and horsemen:; and he had a1,400 thousandchariots and four hundred chariots12,000 and twelve thousand horsemen, thatand he bestowedstationed them in the chariot cities, and with the king atin Jerusalem.
10:27 And the king made silver toas becommon as stones in Jerusalem as stones, and cedarshe made hecedars toas beplentiful as thesycamore sycomore trees that are in the lowland, for abundance.
10:28 AndAlso theSolomons horsesimport whichof Solomonhorses hadwas werefrom broughtEgypt outand ofKue, Egypt; and the kings merchants receivedprocured them infrom droves,Kue eachfor drove at a price.
10:29 And a chariot camewas upimported andfrom went out of Egypt for six600 hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a150; hundred and fifty;by andthe sosame formeans they exported them to all the kings of the Hittites, and forto the kings of Syria, the did they bring them out by their meansArameans.
11:1 Now kingKing Solomon loved many foreign women, togetheralong with the daughter of Pharaoh,: women of the MoabitesMoabite, AmmonitesAmmonite, EdomitesEdomite, SidoniansSidonian, and Hittites;Hittite women,
11:2 offrom the nations concerning which Jehovahthe Lord had said untoto the childrensons of Israel, YeYou shall not goassociate amongwith them, neither shall they comeassociate amongwith you;, for surely they will surely turn away your heart away after their gods:. Solomon claveheld untofast to these in love.
11:3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines;, and his wives turned away his heart away.
11:4 For it came toabout pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart away after other gods; and his heart was not perfectwholly withdevoted Jehovahto the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father had been.
11:5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abominationdetestable idol of the Ammonites.
11:6 And Solomon did thatwhat which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord, and wentdid not fullyfollow afterthe JehovahLord fully, as did David his father had done.
11:7 Then did Solomon buildbuilt a high place for Chemosh the abominationdetestable idol of Moab, inon the mountmountain thatwhich is beforeeast of Jerusalem, and for Molech the abominationdetestable idol of the childrensons of Ammon.
11:8 AndThus soalso he did he for all his foreign wives, who burntburned incense and sacrificed untoto their gods.
11:9 AndNow Jehovahthe Lord was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned away from Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel, who had appeared untoto him twice,
11:10 and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods:; but he keptdid not thatobserve whichwhat Jehovahthe Lord had commanded.
11:11 WhereforeSo Jehovahthe Lord said untoto Solomon, ForasmuchBecause asyou thishave is done of theethis, and thouyou hasthave not kept myMy covenant and myMy statutes, which I have commanded theeyou, I will surely rendtear the kingdom from theeyou, and will give it to thyyour servant.
11:12 NotwithstandingNevertheless in thy days I will not do it, forin Davidyour thydays fathersfor the sake: of your father David, but I will rendtear it out of the hand of thyyour son.
11:13 HowbeitHowever, I will not rendtear away all the kingdom;, but I will give one tribe to thyyour son, for Davidthe mysake servantsof sake,My servant David and for Jerusalemsthe sake of Jerusalem which I have chosen.
11:14 AndThen Jehovahthe Lord raised up an adversary untoto Solomon, Hadad the Edomite:; he was of the kingsroyal seedline in Edom.
11:15 For it came to passabout, when David was in Edom, and Joab the captaincommander of the hostarmy washad gone up to bury the slain, and had smittenstruck down every male in Edom
11:16 for Joab and all Israel remainedstayed there six months, until he had cut off every male in Edom;,
11:17 that Hadad fled to Egypt, he and certain Edomites of his fathers servants with him, towhile go into Egypt, Hadad beingwas yet a littleyoung childboy.
11:18 And they arose outfrom of Midian, and came to Paran; and they took men with them outfrom of Paran, and they came to Egypt, untoto Pharaoh king of Egypt, who gave him a house, and appointedassigned him victuals, food and gave him land.
11:19 AndNow Hadad found great favor inbefore the sight of Pharaoh, so that he gave him toin wifemarriage the sister of his own wife, the sister of Tahpenes the queen.
11:20 And the sister of Tahpenes barebore him Genubath his son Genubath, whom Tahpenes weaned in Pharaohs house; and Genubath was in Pharaohs house among the sons of Pharaoh.
11:21 AndBut when Hadad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers, and that Joab the captaincommander of the hostarmy was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh, LetSend me departaway, that I may go to minemy own country.
11:22 Then Pharaoh said untoto him, But what hasthave thouyou lacked with me, that, behold, thouyou seekestare seeking to go to thineyour own country? And he answered, Nothing:; howbeitnevertheless onlyyou must surely let me departgo.
11:23 And God also raised up another adversary untoto him, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his Lord Hadadezer king of Zobah.
11:24 And he gathered men untoto him, himself and became captainleader overof a troopmarauding band, whenafter David slew them of Zobah:; and they went to Damascus, and dweltstayed thereinthere, and reigned in Damascus.
11:25 AndSo he was an adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, besidesalong with the mischiefevil that Hadad did:; and he abhorred Israel, and reigned over SyriaAram.
11:26 AndThen Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite of Zeredah, aSolomons servant of Solomon, whose mothers name was Zeruah, a widow, he also liftedrebelled up his hand against the king.
11:27 AndNow this was the reason why he liftedrebelled up his hand against the king: Solomon built the Millo, and repairedclosed up the breach of the city of David his father David.
11:28 AndNow the man Jeroboam was a mightyvaliant manwarrior, ofand valor;when and Solomon saw that the young man that he was industrious, and he gaveappointed him charge over all the forced labor of the house of Joseph.
11:29 And it came toabout pass at that time, when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, that the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite found him inon the way;road. nowNow Ahijah had cladclothed himself with a new garmentcloak; and theyboth twoof them were alone in the field.
11:30 AndThen Ahijah laidtook hold of the new garmentcloak thatwhich was on him, and renttore it ininto twelve pieces.
11:31 And he said to Jeroboam, Take theefor yourself ten pieces; for thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel, Behold, I will rendtear the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give you ten tribes to thee
11:32 but he shallwill have one tribe, for mythe sake of My servant DavidsDavid sake and for Jerusalemsthe sake of Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen outfrom of all the tribes of Israel;,
11:33 because that they have forsaken meMe, and have worshippedworshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of the childrensons of Ammon; and they have not walked in myMy ways, todoing dowhat that which is right in mineMy eyes, sight and toobserving keepMy my statutes and mineMy ordinances, as didhis father David his fatherdid.
11:34 HowbeitNevertheless I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand;, but I will make him princeruler all the days of his life, for Davidthe mysake servantsof sakeMy servant David whom I chose, who keptobserved myMy commandments and myMy statutes;
11:35 but I will take the kingdom outfrom of his sons hand, and will give it untoto theeyou, even ten tribes.
11:36 AndBut untoto his son I will I give one tribe, that DavidMy my servant David may have a lamp alwayalways before meMe in Jerusalem, the city whichwhere I have chosen mefor Myself to put myMy name there.
11:37 And I will take theeyou, and thouyou shaltshall reign accordingover towhatever allyou that thy soul desirethdesire, and shaltyou shall be king over Israel.
11:38 AndThen it shallwill be, that if thouyou wiltlisten hearkento unto all that I command thee, you and wilt walk in myMy ways, and do thatwhat which is right in mineMy eyes, sight toby keepobserving myMy statutes and myMy commandments, as DavidMy my servant David did;, thatthen I will be with thee, you and will build theeyou aan sureenduring house, as I built for David, and I will give Israel untoto theeyou.
11:39 AndThus I will for this afflict the seeddescendants of David for this, but not for everalways.
11:40 Solomon sought therefore to killput Jeroboam to death; but Jeroboam arose, and fled intoto Egypt, untoto Shishak king of Egypt, and he was in Egypt until the death of Solomon.
11:41 Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, and allwhatever that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written in the book of the acts of Solomon?
11:42 AndThus the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years.
11:43 And Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father: David, and Rehoboam his son Rehoboam reigned in his steadplace.
12:1 AndThen Rehoboam went to Shechem:, for all Israel werehad come to Shechem to make him king.
12:2 AndNow it came toabout pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it, that he was living in Egypt for he was yet in Egypt, whitherwhere he had fled from the presence of kingKing Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt,.
12:3 andThen they sent and called him, thatand Jeroboam and all the assembly of Israel came, and spakespoke untoto Rehoboam, saying,
12:4 ThyYour father made our yoke grievous:hard; now therefore makelighten thou the grievoushard service of thyyour father, and his heavy yoke which he put uponon us, lighter, and we will serve theeyou.
12:5 AndThen he said untoto them, Depart yet for three days, then comereturn again to me. AndSo the people departed.
12:6 And kingKing Rehoboam tookconsulted counsel with the oldelders men,who that had stoodserved before Solomon his father Solomon while he yetwas livedstill alive, saying, WhatHow counseldo giveyou yecounsel me to return answer to this people?
12:7 AndThen they spakespoke untoto him, saying, If thouyou wiltwill be a servant untoto this people this daytoday, andwill wilt serve them, andgrant answerthem themtheir petition, and speak good words to them, then they will be thyyour servants for everforever.
12:8 But he forsook the counsel of the oldelders men which they had given him, and tookconsulted counsel with the young men thatwho weregrew grown up with him, thatand stoodserved before him.
12:9 AndSo he said untoto them, What counsel do you give ye, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, MakeLighten the yoke thatwhich thyyour father did put uponon us lighter?
12:10 And the young men thatwho weregrew grown up with him spakespoke untoto him, saying, Thus shaltyou thoushall say untoto this people thatwho spakespoke untoto theeyou, saying, ThyYour father made our yoke heavy, butnow you make thou it lighter untofor us;! thusBut shaltyou thoushall speak untoto them, My little finger is thicker than my fathers loins.!
12:11 AndWhereas now whereas my father didloaded lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke:; my father chastiseddisciplined you with whips, but I will chastisediscipline you with scorpions.
12:12 SoThen Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king badehad directed, saying, ComeReturn to me againon the third day.
12:13 And the king answered the people roughlyharshly, andfor he forsook the counseladvice of the oldelders men which they had given him,
12:14 and spakehe spoke to them afteraccording to the counseladvice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke:; my father chastiseddisciplined you with whips, but I will chastisediscipline you with scorpions.
12:15 So the king hearkeneddid not untolisten to the people; for it was a thingturn broughtof aboutevents offrom Jehovahthe Lord, that heHe might establish hisHis word, which Jehovahthe spakeLord byspoke through Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
12:16 AndWhen when all Israel saw that the king hearkeneddid not untolisten to them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion havedo we have in David? neitherWe have weno inheritance in the son of Jesse:; toTo your tents, O Israel:! nowNow seelook toafter thineyour own house, David.! So Israel departed untoto their tents.
12:17 But as for the childrensons of Israel thatwho dweltlived in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
12:18 Then kingKing Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the menforced subjectlabor, to taskwork; and all Israel stoned him to death with stones. And kingKing Rehoboam made speedhaste to getmount him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
12:19 So Israel rebelledhas been in rebellion against the house of David untoto this day.
12:20 And it came toabout pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam washad returned, that they sent and called him untoto the congregation, assembly and made him king over all Israel:. thereNone wasbut none that followed the housetribe of David,Judah butfollowed the tribehouse of Judah onlyDavid.
12:21 AndNow when Rehoboam washad come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, and the tribe of Benjamin, a180,000 hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, thatwho were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bringrestore the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.
12:22 But the word of God came untoto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
12:23 Speak untoto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and untoto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the rest of the people, saying,
12:24 Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, YeYou shallmust not go up, norand fight against your brethrenrelatives the childrensons of Israel:; return every man to his house;, for this thing ishas ofcome mefrom Me. So they hearkenedlistened untoto the word of Jehovahthe Lord, and returned and went their way, according to the word of Jehovahthe Lord.
12:25 Then Jeroboam built Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and dweltlived therein;there. andAnd he went out from thence, there and built Penuel.
12:26 And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now will the kingdom will return to the house of David:.
12:27 ifIf this people go up to offer sacrifices in the house of Jehovahthe Lord at Jerusalem, then will the heart of this people turnwill againreturn untoto their Lord, even untoto Rehoboam king of Judah; and they will kill me, and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.
12:28 WhereuponSo the king took counselconsulted, and made two golden calves, of gold; and he said untoto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem:; behold thyyour gods, O Israel, whichthat brought theeyou up outfrom of the land of Egypt.
12:29 And he set the one in Beth elBethel, and the other he put he in Dan.
12:30 AndNow this thing became a sin;, for the people went to worship before the one, evenas untofar as Dan.
12:31 And he made houses ofon high places, and made priests from among all the people, thatwho were not of the sons of Levi.
12:32 And Jeroboam ordainedinstituted a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast thatwhich is in Judah, and he went up untoto the altar; sothus he did he in Beth elBethel, sacrificing untoto the calves thatwhich he had made:. andAnd he placedstationed in BethBethel el the priests of the high places thatwhich he had made.
12:33 AndThen he went up untoto the altar which he had made in BethBethel el on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised ofin his own heart:; and he ordainedinstituted a feast for the childrensons of Israel, and went up untoto the altar, to burn incense.
13:1 And,Now behold, there came a man of God outfrom of Judah to Bethel by the word of Jehovahthe untoLord, Bethwhile el: and Jeroboam was standing by the altar to burn incense.
13:2 And he cried against the altar by the word of Jehovahthe Lord, and said, O altar, altar, thus saithsays Jehovah:the Lord, Behold, a son shall be born untoto the house of David, Josiah by name; and uponon theeyou he shall he sacrifice the priests of the high places thatwho burn incense uponon theeyou, and menshuman bones shall theybe burnburned uponon theeyou.
13:3 AndThen he gave a sign the same day, saying, This is the sign which Jehovahthe hathLord has spoken:, Behold, the altar shall be rent, split apart and the ashes thatwhich are uponon it shall be poured out.
13:4 AndNow it came toabout pass, when the king heard the saying of the man of God, which he cried against the altar in Beth elBethel, that Jeroboam putstretched forthout his hand from the altar, saying, LaySeize hold on him. AndBut his hand, which he putstretched forthout against him, dried up, so that he could not draw it back again to himhimself.
13:5 The altar also was rent, split apart and the ashes were poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of Jehovahthe Lord.
13:6 And the king answered and said untoto the man of God, EntreatPlease nowentreat the favorLord ofyour Jehovah thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me again. AndSo the man of God entreated Jehovahthe Lord, and the kings hand was restored to him again, and it became as it was before.
13:7 AndThen the king said untoto the man of God, Come home with me, and refresh thyselfyourself, and I will give theeyou a reward.
13:8 AndBut the man of God said untoto the king, If thouyou wiltwere to give me half thyyour house, I willwould not go in with theeyou, neithernor willwould I eat bread noror drink water in this place;.
13:9 forFor so it was itcommanded charged me by the word of Jehovahthe Lord, saying, ThouYou shaltshall eat no bread, nor drink water, neithernor return by the way thatwhich thouyou camestcame.
13:10 So he went another way, and returneddid not return by the way thatwhich he came to Beth elBethel.
13:11 Now there dwelt an old prophet was living in Beth elBethel; and one of his sons came and told him all the worksdeeds thatwhich the man of God had done that day in BethBethel; el: the words which he had spoken untoto the king, themthese also they toldrelated untoto their father.
13:12 And their father said untoto them, WhatWhich way wentdid he go? Now his sons had seen whatthe way which the man of God went, who that came from Judah had gone.
13:13 AndThen he said untoto his sons, Saddle me the assdonkey for me. So they saddled him the ass;donkey for him and he rode thereonaway on it.
13:14 AndSo he went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak; and he said untoto him, ArtAre thouyou the man of God thatwho camestcame from Judah? And he said, I am.
13:15 Then he said untoto him, Come home with me, and eat bread.
13:16 And he said, I maycannot not return with theeyou, nor go in with thee;you, neithernor will I eat bread noror drink water with theeyou in this place:.
13:17 forFor ita wascommand saidcame to me by the word of Jehovahthe Lord, ThouYou shaltshall eat no bread, nor drink water there,; nordo turnnot againreturn toby gogoing by the way thatwhich thouyou camestcame.
13:18 And he said untoto him, I also am a prophet aslike thouyou, art; and an angel spakespoke untoto me by the word of Jehovahthe Lord, saying, Bring him back with theeyou intoto thyyour house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied untoto him.
13:19 So he went back with him, and didate eat bread in his house, and drank water.
13:20 AndNow it came to passabout, as they satwere sitting down at the table, that the word of Jehovahthe Lord came untoto the prophet thatwho had brought him back;
13:21 and he cried untoto the man of God thatwho came from Judah, saying, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, ForasmuchBecause asyou thouhave hastdisobeyed beenthe disobedientcommand untoof the mouth of JehovahLord, and hasthave not keptobserved the commandment which Jehovahthe thyLord your God commanded theeyou,
13:22 but camesthave back, returned and hast eaten bread and drunk water in the place of which heHe said to theeyou, Eat no bread, and drink no water; thyyour body shall not come untoto the sepulchregrave of thyyour fathers.
13:23 And it came toabout pass, after he had eaten bread, and after he had drunk, that he saddled for him the ass, donkey tofor withim, for the prophet whom he had brought back.
13:24 AndNow when he washad gone, a lion met him byon the way, and slewkilled him:, and his body was castthrown inon the wayroad, andwith the assdonkey stoodstanding bybeside it; the lion also stoodwas bystanding beside the body.
13:25 And, behold, men passed by, and saw the body castthrown inon the wayroad, and the lion standing bybeside the body; andso they came and told it in the city where the old prophet dweltlived.
13:26 AndNow when the prophet thatwho brought him back from the way heard thereofit, he said, It is the man of God, who wasdisobeyed disobedient unto the mouthcommand of Jehovah:the Lord; therefore Jehovahthe hathLord deliveredhas given him untoto the lion, which hathhas torn him, and slainkilled him, according to the word of Jehovah, the Lord which heHe spakespoke untoto him.
13:27 AndThen he spakespoke to his sons, saying, Saddle me the assdonkey for me. And they saddled it.
13:28 And he went and found his body castthrown inon the way, road andwith the assdonkey and the lion standing bybeside the body:; the lion had not eaten the body, nor torn the assdonkey.
13:29 AndSo the prophet took up the body of the man of God, and laid it uponon the assdonkey, and brought it back; and he came to the city of the old prophet, to mourn, and to bury him.
13:30 And he laid his body in his own grave;, and they mourned over him, saying, Alas, my brother!
13:31 And it came toabout pass, after he had buried him, that he spakespoke to his sons, saying, When I am deaddie, then bury me in the sepulchregrave whereinin which the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones.
13:32 For the sayingthing shall surely come to pass which he cried by the word of Jehovahthe Lord against the altar in BethBethel el, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass.
13:33 After this thingevent Jeroboam returneddid not return from his evil way, but again he made againpriests of the high places from among all the people; priestsany ofwho the high places: whosoever would, he consecrated himordained, thatto there might be priests of the high places.
13:34 And this thingevent became sin untoto the house of Jeroboam, even to cutblot it off,out and to destroy it from off the face of the earth.
14:1 At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam fellbecame sick.
14:2 And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I pray theenow, and disguise thyself, yourself so that thouthey bemay not knownknow tothat beyou are the wife of Jeroboam;, and getgo thee to Shiloh:; behold, there is Ahijah the prophet is there, who spakespoke concerning me that I shouldwould be king over this people.
14:3 And take withten theeloaves tenwith loavesyou, andsome cakes, and a crusejar of honey, and go to him:. heHe will tell theeyou what shallwill becomehappen ofto the childboy.
14:4 And Jeroboams wife did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. Now Ahijah could not see;, for his eyes were setdim bybecause reason of his age.
14:5 AndNow Jehovahthe Lord had said untoto Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam comethis coming to inquire of theeyou concerning her son;, for he is sick:. You shall say thus and thus shaltto thou say unto her;, for it will be, when she cometharrives in, that she will feignpretend herself to be another woman.
14:6 And it wascame so,about when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, ascoming she came in at the doordoorway, that he said, Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam;, why feignestdo thouyou thyselfpretend to be another woman? forFor I am sent to theeyou with heavya tidingsharsh message.
14:7 Go, tellsay to Jeroboam, Thus saithsays Jehovah, the Lord God of Israel:, ForasmuchBecause as I exalted theeyou from among the people, and made theeyou princeleader over myMy people Israel,
14:8 and renttore the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee;to andyou yet thouyou hasthave not been aslike myMy servant David, who kept myMy commandments, and who followed meMe with all his heart, to do only that only which was right in mineMy eyes,sight;
14:9 butyou hastalso have done more evil abovethan all thatwho were before theeyou, and hasthave gone and made theefor yourself other gods, and molten images, to provoke meMe to anger, and hasthave cast meMe behind thyyour back:
14:10 therefore, behold, I willam bringbringing evilcalamity uponon the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam every manmale childperson, himboth thatbond is shut up and himfree that is left at large in Israel, and I will utterlymake a clean sweep awayof the house of Jeroboam, as aone mansweeps sweepeth away dung, tilluntil it beis all gone.
14:11 HimAnyone thatbelonging diethto of Jeroboam who dies in the city shall the dogs will eat;. andAnd himhe thatwho diethdies in the field shall the birds of the heavens will eat:; for Jehovahthe hathLord has spoken it.
14:12 AriseNow thouyou thereforearise, getgo thee to thyyour house:. andWhen whenyour thy feet enter into the city, the child shallwill die.
14:13 And all Israel shall mourn for him, and bury him;, for he onlyalone of JeroboamJeroboams family shall come to the grave, because in him theresomething isgood was found some good thing toward Jehovah, the Lord God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.
14:14 Moreover, Jehovahthe Lord will raise him up for Himself a king over Israel, who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam thatthis day: butand what?from evennow nowon.
14:15 For Jehovahthe Lord will smitestrike Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water; and heHe will rootuproot up Israel outfrom of this good land which heHe gave to their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the Euphrates River, because they have made their Asherim, provoking Jehovahthe Lord to anger.
14:16 And heHe will give up Israel upon becauseaccount of the sins of Jeroboam, which he hathcommitted sinned, and wherewithwith which he hath made Israel to sin.
14:17 AndThen Jeroboams wife arose, and departed, and came to Tirzah:. andAs as she camewas toentering the threshold of the house, the child died.
14:18 And all Israel buried him, and mourned for him, according to the word of Jehovah, the Lord which heHe spakespoke bythrough hisHis servant Ahijah the prophet.
14:19 AndNow the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he warred, made war and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the bookBook of the chroniclesChronicles of the kingsKings of Israel.
14:20 And the daystime whichthat Jeroboam reigned werewas twenty two and twenty years:; and he slept with his fathers, and Nadab his son reigned in his steadplace.
14:21 AndNow Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he beganbecame to reignking, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which Jehovahthe Lord had chosen outfrom of all the tribes of Israel, to put hisHis name there:. andAnd his mothers name was Naamah the Ammonitess.
14:22 And Judah did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord, and they provoked himHim to jealousy withmore theirthan sins which they committed, above all that their fathers had done, with the sins which they committed.
14:23 For they also built themfor themselves high places, and sacred pillars, and Asherim, on every high hill, and underbeneath every greenluxuriant tree;.
14:24 andAnd there were also sodomitesmale cult prostitutes in the land:. theyThey did according to all the abominations of the nations which Jehovahthe droveLord outdispossessed before the childrensons of Israel.
14:25 AndNow it came toabout pass in the fifth year of kingKing Rehoboam, that Shishak the king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem;.
14:26 andAnd he took away the treasures of the house of Jehovah, the Lord and the treasures of the kings house;, and he even took awayeverything, all:even andtaking he took away all the shields of gold which Solomon had made.
14:27 AndSo kingKing Rehoboam made inshields theirof steadbronze shieldsin oftheir brassplace, and committed them to the handscare of the captainscommanders of the guard, who keptguarded the doordoorway of the kings house.
14:28 AndThen it washappened so, that, as oftoften as the king wententered into the house of Jehovahthe Lord, that the guardguards barewould carry them, and broughtwould bring them back into the guardguards chamberroom.
14:29 Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are they not written in the bookBook of the chroniclesChronicles of the kingsKings of Judah?
14:31 And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David:; and his mothers name was Naamah the Ammonitess. And Abijam his son reignedbecame king in his steadplace.
15:1 Now in the eighteenth year of kingKing Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, began Abijam tobecame reignking over Judah.
15:2 ThreeHe years reigned hethree years in Jerusalem:; and his mothers name was Maacah the daughter of Abishalom.
15:3 And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had donecommitted before him; and his heart was not perfectwholly withdevoted Jehovahto the Lord his God, aslike the heart of David his father David.
15:4 NeverthelessBut for Davids sake didthe JehovahLord his God givegave him a lamp in Jerusalem, to setraise up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem;
15:5 because David did thatwhat which was right in the eyessight of Jehovahthe Lord, and turnedhad not turned aside from anything that heHe commanded him all the days of his life, saveexcept only in the mattercase of Uriah the Hittite.
15:6 NowAnd there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life.
15:7 AndNow the rest of the acts of Abijam, and all that he did, are they not written in the bookBook of the chroniclesChronicles of the kingsKings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam.
15:8 And Abijam slept with his fathers; and they buried him in the city of David:; and Asa his son reignedbecame king in his steadplace.
15:9 AndSo in the twentieth year of Jeroboam the king of Israel, Asa began Asa to reign overas king of Judah.
15:10 And he reigned forty and one years reigned he in Jerusalem:; and his mothers name was Maacah the daughter of Abishalom.
15:11 And Asa did thatwhat which was right in the eyessight of Jehovahthe Lord, aslike did David his father.
15:12 AndHe healso put away the sodomitesmale outcult ofprostitutes from the land, and removed all the idols thatwhich his fathers had made.
15:13 And he also removed Maacah his mother he removed from being queen mother, because she had made ana abominablehorrid image foras an Asherah; and Asa cut down her horrid image, and burntburned it at the brook Kidron.
15:14 But the high places were not taken away:; nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfectwholly withdevoted Jehovahto the Lord all his days.
15:15 And he brought into the house of Jehovahthe Lord the dedicated things thatof his father hadand dedicated, his andown thededicated things: that himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vesselsutensils.
15:16 AndNow there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.
15:17 And Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah, and builtfortified Ramah, thatin heorder mightto notprevent sufferanyone anyfrom onegoing to go out or comecoming in to Asa king of Judah.
15:18 Then Asa took all the silver and the gold thatwhich were left in the treasurestreasuries of the house of Jehovah, the Lord and the treasurestreasuries of the kings house, and delivered them into the hand of his servants;. andAnd kingKing Asa sent them to Ben hadad, the son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, king of SyriaAram, thatwho dweltlived atin Damascus, saying,
15:19 ThereLet isthere be a leaguetreaty between meyou and theeme, as between my father and thyyour father:. beholdBehold, I have sent untoyou thee a present of silver and gold; go, break thyyour leaguetreaty with Baasha king of Israel, so that he maywill departwithdraw from me.
15:20 AndSo Ben hadad hearkenedlistened untoto kingKing Asa, and sent the captainscommanders of his armies against the cities of Israel, and smoteconquered Ijon, and Dan, and Abel beth maacah, and all Chinneroth, withbesides all the land of Naphtali.
15:21 And it came toabout pass, when Baasha heard thereof,of it that he leftceased offfortifying building Ramah, and dweltremained in Tirzah.
15:22 Then kingKing Asa made a proclamation untoto all Judah; none was exempted:exempt and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and theits timber thereof, with wherewithwhich Baasha had builded;built. andAnd kingKing Asa built therewithwith them Geba of Benjamin, and Mizpah.
15:23 Now the rest of all the acts of Asa, and all his might, and all that he did, and the cities which he built, are they not written in the bookBook of the chroniclesChronicles of the kingsKings of Judah? But in the time of his old age he was diseased in his feet.
15:24 And Asa slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father; and Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his steadplace.
15:25 AndNow Nadab the son of Jeroboam beganbecame toking reign over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah;, and he reigned over Israel two years.
15:26 And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord, and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin wherewithwhich he made Israel to sin.
15:27 AndThen Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him;, and Baasha smotestruck him down at Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines;, forwhile Nadab and all Israel were laying siege to Gibbethon.
15:28 EvenSo Baasha killed him in the third year of Asa king of Judah did Baasha slay him, and reigned in his steadplace.
15:29 And it came to pass thatabout, as soon as he was king, he smotestruck down all the househousehold of Jeroboam:. heHe leftdid not leave to Jeroboam any thatpersons breathedalive, until he had destroyed him;them, according untoto the sayingword of Jehovahthe Lord, which heHe spakespoke by hisHis servant Ahijah the Shilonite;,
15:30 forand because of the sins of Jeroboam which he sinned, and wherewithwhich he made Israel to sin, because of his provocation wherewithwith which he provoked Jehovah, the Lord God of Israel, to anger.
15:31 Now the rest of the acts of Nadab, and all that he did, are they not written in the bookBook of the chroniclesChronicles of the kingsKings of Israel?
15:33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, began Baasha the son of Ahijah tobecame reignking over all Israel inat Tirzah, and reigned twenty and four years.
15:34 And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord, and walked in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin wherewithwhich he made Israel to sin.
16:1 AndNow the word of Jehovahthe Lord came to Jehu the son of Hanani against Baasha, saying,
16:2 ForasmuchInasmuch as I exalted theeyou outfrom of the dust, and made theeyou princeleader over myMy people Israel, and thouyou hasthave walked in the way of Jeroboam, and hasthave made myMy people Israel to sin, toprovoking provokeMe me to anger with their sins;,
16:3 behold, I will utterlyconsume sweep away Baasha and his house;, and I will make thyyour house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
16:4 HimAnyone that dieth of Baasha who dies in the city shall the dogs shall eat;, and himanyone that dieth of his who dies in the field shall the birds of the heavens will eat.
16:5 Now the rest of the acts of Baasha, and what he did, and his might, are they not written in the bookBook of the chroniclesChronicles of the kingsKings of Israel?
16:6 And Baasha slept with his fathers, and was buried in Tirzah;, and Elah his son reignedbecame king in his steadplace.
16:7 AndMoreover, moreoverthe byword of the Lord through the prophet Jehu the son of Hanani also came the word of Jehovah against Baasha, and against his househousehold, both because of all the evil thatwhich he did in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord, toprovoking provokeHim him to anger with the work of his hands, in being like the house of Jeroboam, and because he smotestruck himit.
16:8 In the twenty and sixth year of Asa king of Judah, began Elah the son of Baasha tobecame reignking over Israel inat Tirzah, and reigned two years.
16:9 And his servant Zimri, captaincommander of half his chariots, conspired against him. Now he was inat Tirzah, drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza, who was over the household inat Tirzah:.
16:10 andThen Zimri went in and smotestruck him, and killedput him to death, in the twenty and seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and reignedbecame king in his steadplace.
16:11 And it came to passabout, when he beganbecame to reignking, as soon as he sat on his throne, that he smotekilled all the househousehold of Baasha:; he leftdid him not leave a single man childmale, neither of his kinsfolks, relatives nor of his friends.
16:12 Thus did Zimri destroydestroyed all the househousehold of Baasha, according to the word of Jehovahthe Lord, which heHe spakespoke against Baasha bythrough Jehu the prophet,
16:13 for all the sins of Baasha, and the sins of Elah his son, which they sinned, and wherewithwhich they made Israel to sin, toprovoking provokethe Jehovah,Lord the God of Israel, to anger with their vanitiesidols.
16:14 Now the rest of the acts of Elah, and all that he did, are they not written in the bookBook of the chroniclesChronicles of the kingsKings of Israel?
16:15 In the twenty and seventh year of Asa king of Judah, did Zimri reignreigned seven days inat Tirzah. Now the people were encampedcamped against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines.
16:16 And the people thatwho were encampedcamped heard sayit said, Zimri hathhas conspired, and hathhas also smittenstruck down the king:. whereforeTherefore all Israel made Omri, the captaincommander of the hostarmy, king over Israel that day in the camp.
16:17 AndThen Omri went up from Gibbethon, and all Israel with him went up from Gibbethon, and they besieged Tirzah.
16:18 And it came to passabout, when Zimri saw that the city was taken, that he went into the castlecitadel of the kings house, and burntburned the kings house over him with fire, and died,
16:19 forbecause of his sins which he sinned, in doing that which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord, in walking in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin which he did, tomaking make Israel to sin.
16:20 Now the rest of the acts of Zimri, and his treasonconspiracy thatwhich he wroughtcarried out, are they not written in the bookBook of the chroniclesChronicles of the kingsKings of Israel?
16:21 Then were the people of Israel were divided into two parts: half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath, to make him king; andthe other half followed Omri.
16:22 But the people thatwho followed Omri prevailed againstover the people thatwho followed Tibni the son of Ginath:. soAnd Tibni died, and Omri reignedbecame king.
16:23 In the thirty and first year of Asa king of Judah, began Omri tobecame reignking over Israel, and reigned twelve years:; he reigned six years reignedat he in Tirzah.
16:24 And he bought the hill Samaria offrom Shemer for two talents of silver; and he built on the hill, and callednamed the name of the city which he built Samaria, after the name of Shemer, the owner of the hill, Samaria.
16:25 And Omri did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord, and dealtacted more wickedly abovethan all thatwho were before him.
16:26 For he walked in all the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and in his sins wherewithwhich he made Israel to sin, toprovoking provokethe Jehovah,Lord the God of Israel, to anger with their vanitiesidols.
16:27 Now the rest of the acts of Omri which he did, and his might thatwhich he showed, are they not written in the bookBook of the chroniclesChronicles of the kingsKings of Israel?
16:28 So Omri slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria; and Ahab his son reignedbecame king in his steadplace.
16:29 AndNow inAhab the thirtyson andof eighthOmri yearbecame ofking Asaover kingIsrael ofin Judahthe beganthirty Ahabeighth theyear son of OmriAsa toking reignof overJudah, Israel: and Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty and two years.
16:30 And Ahab the son of Omri did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovahthe aboveLord more than all thatwho were before him.
16:31 And it came to passabout, as ifthough it had been a lighttrivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he tookmarried to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and went andto servedserve Baal, and worshippedworshiped him.
16:32 AndSo he rearederected up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria.
16:33 And Ahab also made the Asherah;. andThus Ahab did yet more to provoke Jehovah, the Lord God of Israel, to anger than all the kings of Israel thatwho were before him.
16:34 In his days did Hiel the BethBethelite elitebuilt build Jericho:; he laid theits foundationfoundations thereof with the loss of Abiram his first bornfirstborn, and set up theits gates thereof with the loss of his youngest son Segub, according to the word of Jehovahthe Lord, which heHe spakespoke by Joshua the son of Nun.
17:1 AndNow Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the sojournerssettlers of Gilead, said untoto Ahab, As Jehovahthe Lord, the God of Israel, livethlives, before whom I stand, surely there shall not be neither dew nor rain these years, butexcept accordingby to my word.
17:2 And the word of Jehovahthe Lord came untoto him, saying,
17:3 GetGo theeaway hence, from here and turn thee eastward, and hide thyselfyourself by the brook Cherith, thatwhich is beforeeast of the Jordan.
17:4 And it shall be, that thouyou shaltshall drink of the brook;, and I have commanded the ravens to feedprovide theefor you there.
17:5 So he went and did according untoto the word of Jehovah;the Lord, for he went and dweltlived by the brook Cherith, thatwhich is beforeeast of the Jordan.
17:6 And the ravens brought him bread and fleshmeat in the morning, and bread and fleshmeat in the evening;, and he drankwould ofdrink from the brook.
17:7 And it camehappened to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there was no rain in the land.
17:8 AndThen the word of Jehovahthe Lord came untoto him, saying,
17:9 Arise, getgo thee to Zarephath, which belongethbelongs to Sidon, and dwellstay there:; behold, I have commanded a widow there to sustainprovide theefor you.
17:10 So he arose and went to Zarephath;, and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks:; and he called to her, and said, FetchPlease get me, I pray thee, a little water in a vesseljar, that I may drink.
17:11 And as she was going to fetchget it, he called to her, and said, BringPlease bring me, I pray thee, a morselpiece of bread in thyyour hand.
17:12 AndBut she said, As Jehovahthe thyLord your God livethlives, I have notno a cakebread, butonly a handful of mealflour in the jar, bowl and a little oil in the cruse:jar; and, behold, I am gathering twoa few sticks, that I may go in and dressprepare it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
17:13 AndThen Elijah said untoto her, FearDo not fear; go, and do as thouyou hasthave said;, but make me thereof a little bread cake from it first, and bring it forthout untoto me, and afterward you may make one for theeyourself and for thyyour son.
17:14 For thus saithsays Jehovah, the Lord God of Israel, The jarbowl of mealflour shall not wastebe exhausted, neithernor shall the crusejar of oil failbe empty, until the day that Jehovahthe sendethLord sends rain uponon the face of the earth.
17:15 AndSo she went and did according to the sayingword of Elijah:, and she, and he, and her house, household didate eatfor many days.
17:16 The jarbowl of mealflour wastedwas not, neitherexhausted nor did the crusejar of oil failbecome empty, according to the word of Jehovah, the Lord which heHe spakespoke bythrough Elijah.
17:17 AndNow it came toabout pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fellbecame sick; and his sickness was so soresevere, that there was no breath left in him.
17:18 AndSo she said untoto Elijah, What havedo I have to do with theeyou, O thou man of God? thouYou arthave come untoto me to bring my sininiquity to remembrance, and to slayput my son to death!
17:19 And he said untoto her, Give me thyyour son. AndThen he took him outfrom of her bosom, and carried him up intoto the chamber, upper room where he abodewas living, and laid him uponon his own bed.
17:20 And he criedcalled untoto Jehovah, the Lord and said, O JehovahLord my God, hast thouThou also brought evilcalamity uponto the widow with whom I sojournam staying, by slayingcausing her son to die?
17:21 AndThen he stretched himself upon the child three times, and criedcalled untoto Jehovahthe Lord, and said, O JehovahLord my God, I pray theeThee, let this childs soullife comereturn intoto him again.
17:22 And Jehovahthe hearkenedLord untoheard the voice of Elijah;, and the soullife of the child camereturned intoto him again, and he revived.
17:23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down outfrom of the chamberupper room into the house, and deliveredgave him untoto his mother; and Elijah said, See, thyyour son livethis alive.
17:24 AndThen the woman said to Elijah, Now I know that thouyou artare a man of God, and that the word of Jehovahthe Lord in thyyour mouth is truth.
18:1 AndNow it came toabout pass after many days, that the word of Jehovahthe Lord came to Elijah, in the third year, saying, Go, show thyselfyourself untoto Ahab;, and I will send rain uponon the face of the earth.
18:2 AndSo Elijah went to show himself untoto Ahab. AndNow the famine was soresevere in Samaria.
18:3 And Ahab called Obadiah, who was over the household. Now Obadiah feared Jehovahthe Lord greatly:;
18:4 for it wascame soabout, when Jezebel cutdestroyed off the prophets of Jehovahthe Lord, that Obadiah took a hundred prophets, and hid them by fiftyfifties in a cave, and fedprovided them with bread and water.
18:5 AndThen Ahab said untoto Obadiah, Go through the land, untoto all the fountainssprings of water, and untoto all the brooks:valleys; peradventureperhaps we maywill find grass and savekeep the horses and mules alive, thatand wenot losehave notto allkill some of the beastscattle.
18:6 So they divided the land between them to passsurvey throughout it:; Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.
18:7 AndNow as Obadiah was inon the way, behold, Elijah met him:, and he knewrecognized him, and fell on his face, and said, Is itthis thouyou, Elijah my Lord Elijahmaster?
18:8 And he answeredsaid to him, It is I:. goGo, tellsay thyto Lordyour master, Behold, Elijah is here.
18:9 And he said, WhereinWhat sin have I sinnedcommitted, that thouyou wouldestare delivergiving thyyour servant into the hand of Ahab, to slayput me to death?
18:10 As Jehovahthe thyLord your God livethlives, there is no nation or kingdom, whitherwhere my Lordmaster hathhas not sent to seeksearch thee:for you; and when they said, He is not here, he tookmade an oath of the kingdom andor nation, swear that they foundcould theenot notfind you.
18:11 And now thouyou sayestare saying, Go, tellsay thyto Lordyour master, Behold, Elijah is here.
18:12 And it will come toabout pass, when as soon as I amleave goneyou from thee, that the Spirit of Jehovahthe Lord will carry theeyou whitherwhere I knowdo not know; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find theeyou, he will slaykill me:, butalthough I thyyour servant fearhave Jehovahfeared the Lord from my youth.
18:13 WasHas it not been told to my Lordmaster what I did when Jezebel slewkilled the prophets of Jehovahthe Lord, howthat I hid a hundred menprophets of Jehovahsthe prophetsLord by fiftyfifties in a cave, and fedprovided them with bread and water?
18:14 And now thouyou sayestare saying, Go, tellsay thyto Lordyour master, Behold, Elijah is here; and he will slaythen kill me.
18:15 And Elijah said, As Jehovahthe Lord of hosts livethlives, before whom I stand, I will surely show myself untoto him to daytoday.
18:17 And it came to passabout, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said untoto him, Is itthis thouyou, thouyou troubler of Israel?
18:18 And he answeredsaid, I have not troubled Israel;, but thou, you and thyyour fathers house have, inbecause thatyou ye have forsaken the commandments of Jehovahthe Lord, and thouyou hasthave followed the BaalimBaals.
18:19 Now thereforethen send, and gather to me all Israel untoat mountMount Carmel, andtogether thewith 450 prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty,400 and the prophets of the Asherah four hundred, thatwho eat at Jezebels table.
18:20 So Ahab sent untoa message among all the childrensons of Israel, and gatheredbrought the prophets together untoat mountMount Carmel.
18:21 And Elijah came near untoto all the people, and said, How long gowill yeyou limpinghesitate between the two sidesopinions? ifIf Jehovahthe beLord is God, follow himHim; but if Baal, then follow him. AndBut the people answereddid not answer him not a word.
18:22 Then Elijah said Elijahto unto the people, I, evenalone I only, am left a prophet of Jehovah;the Lord, but Baals prophets are four450 hundred and fifty men.
18:23 LetNow let them therefore give us two bullocksoxen; and let them choose one bullockox for themselves, and cut it in piecesup, and layplace it on the wood, andbut put no fire under it; and I will dressprepare the other bullockox, and lay it on the wood, and I will not put noa fire under it.
18:24 AndThen you call ye on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of Jehovah;the Lord, and the God thatwho answerethanswers by fire, letHe himis be God. And all the people answered and said, ItThat is wella spokengood idea.
18:25 AndSo Elijah said untoto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullockox for yourselves, and dressprepare it first; for yeyou are many;, and call on the name of your god, but put no fire under it.
18:26 AndThen they took the bullockox which was given them, and they dressedprepared it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hearanswer us. But there was no voice, norand anyno thatone answered. And they leaped about the altar which wasthey made.
18:27 And it came toabout pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, CryCall aloud;out with a loud voice, for he is a god:; either he is musing, occupied or he is gone aside, or he is on a journey, or peradventureperhaps he sleepethis asleep and mustneeds to be awakedawakened.
18:28 AndSo they cried aloud, with a loud voice and cut themselves afteraccording to their mannercustom with knivesswords and lances, tilluntil the blood gushed out uponon them.
18:29 And it wascame so,about when midday was past, that they prophesiedraved until the time of the offering of the evening oblationsacrifice; but there was neitherno voice, norno anyone to answeranswered, norand anyno thatone regardedpaid attention.
18:30 AndThen Elijah said untoto all the people, Come near untoto me;. andSo all the people came near untoto him. And he repaired the altar of Jehovahthe thatLord waswhich thrownhad been torn down.
18:31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, untoto whom the word of Jehovahthe cameLord had come, saying, Israel shall be thyyour name.
18:32 AndSo with the stones he built an altar in the name of Jehovah;the Lord, and he made a trench aboutaround the altar, aslarge greatenough asto wouldhold contain two measures of seed.
18:33 AndThen he putarranged the wood in order, and cut the bullockox in pieces, and laid it on the wood. And he said, Fill four jarspitchers with water, and pour it on the burnt offering, and on the wood.
18:34 And he said, Do it thea second time;, and they did it thea second time. And he said, Do it thea third time;, and they did it thea third time.
18:35 And the water ranflowed roundaround about the altar;, and he also filled the trench also with water.
18:36 AndThen it came toabout pass at the time of the offering of the evening oblationsacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, O JehovahLord, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, today let it be known this day that thouThou art God in Israel, and that I am thyThy servant, and that I have done all these things at thyThy word.
18:37 HearAnswer me, O JehovahLord, hearanswer me, that this people may know that thouThou, JehovahO Lord, art God, and that thouThou hast turned their heart back again.
18:38 Then the fire of Jehovahthe Lord fell, and consumed the burnt offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
18:39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces:; and they said, JehovahThe Lord, heHe is God; Jehovahthe Lord, heHe is God.
18:40 AndThen Elijah said untoto them, TakeSeize the prophets of Baal; letdo not let one of them escape. AndSo they tookseized them; and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.
18:41 AndNow Elijah said untoto Ahab, GetGo thee up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundancethe roar of raina heavy shower.
18:42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. AndBut Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he bowedcrouched himself down uponon the earth, and put his face between his knees.
18:43 And he said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. AndSo he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go againback seven times.
18:44 And it came toabout pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a cloud out of the sea, as small as a mans hand is coming up from the sea. And he said, Go up, say untoto Ahab, MakePrepare readyyour thy chariot, and getgo thee down, so that the rainheavy stopshower theedoes not stop you.
18:45 AndSo it came toabout pass in a little while, that the heavenssky grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a greatheavy rainshower. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel:.
18:46 andThen the hand of Jehovahthe Lord was on Elijah;, and he girded up his loins, and ranoutran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.
19:1 AndNow Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slainkilled all the prophets with the sword.
19:2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger untoto Elijah, saying, So letmay the gods do to me, and even more also, if I makedo not thymake your life as the life of one of them by totomorrow morrow about this time.
19:3 And when he sawwas that, afraid heand arose, and wentran for his life, and came to Beer shebaBeersheba, which belongethbelongs to Judah, and left his servant there.
19:4 But he himself went a days journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree:; and he requested for himself that he might die, and said, It is enough; now, O JehovahLord, take away my life;, for I am not better than my fathers.
19:5 And he lay down and slept under a juniper tree; and, behold, there was an angel touchedtouching him, and he said untoto him, Arise, and eat.
19:6 AndThen he looked, and, behold, there was at his head a bread cake bakenbaked on thehot coalsstones, and a crusejar of water. AndSo he didate eat and drink, drank and laidlay him down again.
19:7 And the angel of Jehovahthe Lord came again thea second time, and touched him, and said, Arise, and eat, because the journey is too great for theeyou.
19:8 AndSo he arose, and didate eat and drinkdrank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights untoto Horeb, the mountmountain of God.
19:9 AndThen he came thitherthere untoto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of Jehovahthe Lord came to him, and heHe said untoto him, What doestare thouyou doing here, Elijah?
19:10 And he said, I have been very jealouszealous for Jehovahthe Lord, the God of hosts; for the childrensons of Israel have forsaken thyThy covenant, throwntorn down thineThine altars, and slainkilled thyThy prophets with the sword:. andAnd I, evenalone I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
19:11 AndSo heHe said, Go forth, and stand uponon the mountmountain before Jehovahthe Lord. And, behold, Jehovahthe passedLord was passing by,! andAnd a great and strong wind rentwas rending the mountains, and brakebreaking in pieces the rocks before Jehovahthe Lord; but Jehovahthe Lord was not in the wind:. andAnd after the wind an earthquake;, but Jehovahthe Lord was not in the earthquake:.
19:12 andAnd after the earthquake a fire;, but Jehovahthe Lord was not in the fire:; and after the fire a stillsound smallof voicea gentle blowing.
19:13 And it wascame so,about when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice untocame to him, and said, What doestare thouyou doing here, Elijah?
19:14 AndThen he said, I have been very jealouszealous for Jehovahthe Lord, the God of hosts; for the childrensons of Israel have forsaken thyThy covenant, throwntorn down thineThine altars, and slainkilled thyThy prophets with the sword;. andAnd I, evenalone I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
19:15 And Jehovahthe Lord said untoto him, Go, return on thyyour way to the wilderness of Damascus:, and when thouyou comesthave arrived, thouyou shaltshall anoint Hazael to be king over SyriaAram;
19:16 and Jehu the son of Nimshi shaltyou thoushall anoint to be king over Israel; and Elisha the son of Shaphat of AbelAbelmeholah meholahyou shaltshall thou anoint toas be prophet in thyyour roomplace.
19:17 And it shall come to passabout, thatthe himone thatwho escapethescapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu shall Jehuput slay;to death, and himthe thatone escapethwho escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha shall Elishaput slayto death.
19:18 Yet I will I leave me7,000 seven thousand in Israel, all the knees whichthat have not bowed untoto Baal, and every mouth whichthat hathhas not kissed him.
19:19 So he departed thence, from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, whowhile he was plowing, with twelve yokepairs of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth:. andAnd Elijah passed over untoto him, and castthrew his mantle uponon him.
19:20 And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, LetPlease let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow theeyou. And he said untoto him, Go back again;, for what have I done to theeyou?
19:21 AndSo he returned from following him, and took the yokepair of oxen, and slewsacrificed them, and boiled their flesh with the instrumentsimplements of the oxen, and gave untoit to the people, and they did eatate. Then he arose, and wentfollowed after Elijah, and ministered untoto him.
20:1 AndNow Ben hadad the king of SyriaAram gathered all his hostarmy, together; and there were thirty and two kings with him, and horses and chariots:. andAnd he went up and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.
20:2 AndThen he sent messengers to the city to Ahab king of Israel, into the city, and said untoto him, Thus saithsays Ben hadad,
20:3 ThyYour silver and thyyour gold isare mine; thyyour most beautiful wives also and thy children, evenare thealso goodliest, are mine.
20:4 And the king of Israel answered and said, It is according to thyyour sayingword, my Lord, O king; I am thineyours, and all that I have.
20:5 AndThen the messengers camereturned again, and said, Thus speakethsays Ben hadad, sayingSurely, I sent indeedto untoyou thee, saying, ThouYou shaltshall delivergive me thyyour silver, and thyyour gold, and thyyour wives, and thyyour children;,
20:6 but about this time tomorrow I will send my servants unto thee to morrow about this timeyou, and they shallwill search thyyour house, and the houses of thyyour servants; and it shall become about, thatwhatever whatsoever is pleasantdesirable in thineyour eyes, they shallwill puttake it in their hand, and takecarry it away.
20:7 Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Mark,Please Iobserve pray you, and see how this man seekethis mischief:looking for trouble; for he sent untoto me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold;, and I denieddid not refuse him not.
20:8 And all the elders and all the people said untoto him, HearkenDo thou not, neitherlisten or consent.
20:9 WhereforeSo he said untoto the messengers of Ben hadad, Tell my Lord the king, All that thouyou didstsent send for to thyyour servant at the first I will do;, but this thing I maycannot not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.
20:10 And Ben hadad sent untoto him, and said, TheMay the gods do so untoto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people thatwho follow me.
20:11 AndThen the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him thatwho girdethgirds on his armor boast himselflike ashim hewho thattakes putteth it off.
20:12 And it came toabout pass, when Ben hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, hewith and the kings, in the pavilionstemporary shelters, that he said untoto his servants, SetStation yourselves in array. AndSo they setstationed themselves in array against the city.
20:13 And,Now behold, a prophet cameapproached near unto Ahab king of Israel, and said, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, HastHave thouyou seen all this great multitude? beholdBehold, I will deliver itthem into thyyour hand thistoday, day; and thouyou shaltshall know that I am Jehovahthe Lord.
20:14 And Ahab said, By whom? AndSo he said, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, By the young men of the princesrulers of the provinces. Then he said, Who shall begin the battle? And he answered, ThouYou.
20:15 Then he mustered the young men of the princesrulers of the provinces, and theythere were two232; hundred and thirty two: and after them he mustered all the people, even all the childrensons of Israel, being seven thousand7,000.
20:16 And they went out at noon., Butwhile Ben hadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, temporary heshelters andwith the kings, the thirty and two kings thatwho helped him.
20:17 And the young men of the princesrulers of the provinces went out first; and Ben hadad sent out, and they told him, saying, ThereMen arehave men come out from Samaria.
20:18 AndThen he said, WhetherIf they arehave come out for peace, take them alive; or whetherif they arehave come out for war, take them alive.
20:19 So these went out offrom the city, the young men of the princesrulers of the provinces, and the army which followed them.
20:20 And they slewkilled everyeach one his man; and the SyriansArameans fled, and Israel pursued them:, and Ben hadad the king of SyriaAram escaped on a horse with horsemen.
20:21 And the king of Israel went out, and smotestruck the horses and chariots, and slewkilled the SyriansArameans with a great slaughter.
20:22 AndThen the prophet came near to the king of Israel, and said untoto him, Go, strengthen thyself, yourself and mark, observe and see what thouyou doesthave to do; for at the returnturn of the year the king of SyriaAram will come up against theeyou.
20:23 AndNow the servants of the king of SyriaAram said untoto him, Their godgods isare agods god of the hills;mountains, therefore they were stronger than we:; but rather let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.
20:24 And do this thing: takeremove the kings away, everyeach manfrom out of his place, and put captains in their room;place,
20:25 and numbermuster thee an army, like the army that thouyou hasthave lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot;. andThen we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. And he hearkenedlistened untoto their voice, and did so.
20:26 AndSo it came toabout pass at the returnturn of the year, that Ben hadad mustered the Syrians,Arameans and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.
20:27 And the childrensons of Israel were mustered, and were victualled, provisioned and went againstto meet them:; and the childrensons of Israel encampedcamped before them like two little flocks of kids;goats, but the SyriansArameans filled the country.
20:28 AndThen a man of God came near and spakespoke untoto the king of Israel, and said, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, Because the SyriansArameans have said, JehovahThe Lord is a god of the hillsmountains, but heHe is not a god of the valleys; therefore I will Igive deliver all this great multitude into thyyour hand, and yeyou shall know that I am Jehovahthe Lord.
20:29 AndSo they encampedcamped one over against the other seven days. And so it was, came about that inon the seventh day, the battle was joined;, and the childrensons of Israel slewkilled of the SyriansArameans a100,000 hundredfoot thousandsoldiers footmen in one day.
20:30 But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city;, and the wall fell uponon twenty27,000 and seven thousand men thatwho were left. And Ben hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.
20:31 And his servants said untoto him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings:, please let us, we pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes uponon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel:; peradventureperhaps he will save thyyour life.
20:32 So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, ThyYour servant Ben hadad saithsays, IPlease pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yetstill alive? heHe is my brother.
20:33 Now the men observedtook diligently, this andas hastedan toomen, catchand whetherquickly itcatching were his mind;word and they said, ThyYour brother Ben hadad. Then he said, Go ye, bring him. Then Ben hadad came forthout to him;, and he causedtook him to come up into the chariot.
20:34 And Ben hadad said untoto him, The cities which my father took from thyyour father I will restore;, and thouyou shaltshall make streets for theeyourself in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. AndAhab Isaid, saidAnd Ahab,I will let theeyou go with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and let him go.
20:35 AndNow a certain man of the sons of the prophets said untoto hisanother fellow by the word of Jehovah, the Smite meLord, IPlease praystrike theeme. AndBut the man refused to smitestrike him.
20:36 Then he said heto unto him, Because thouyou hasthave not obeyedlistened to the voice of Jehovahthe Lord, behold, as soon as thouyou arthave departed from me, a lion shallwill slaykill theeyou. And as soon as he washad departed from him, a lion found him, and slewkilled him.
20:37 Then he found another man, and said, SmitePlease strike me, I pray thee. And the man smotestruck him, smiting and wounding him.
20:38 So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with hisa headbandbandage over his eyes.
20:39 And as the king passed by, he cried untoto the king; and he said, ThyYour servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man untoto me, and said, KeepGuard this man:; if byfor any meansreason he beis missing, then shallyour thy life shall be for his life, or else thouyou shaltshall pay a talent of silver.
20:40 And aswhile thyyour servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said untoto him, So shall thyyour judgment be; thyselfyou hastyourself have decided it.
20:41 AndThen he hasted, hastily and took the headbandbandage away from his eyes;, and the king of Israel discernedrecognized him that he was of the prophets.
20:42 And he said untoto him, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, Because thouyou hasthave let go out of thyyour hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore thyyour life shall go for his life, and thyyour people for his people.
20:43 AndSo the king of Israel went to his house heavysullen and displeasedvexed, and came to Samaria.
21:1 AndNow it came toabout pass after these things, that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard, which was in Jezreel, hardbeside by the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.
21:2 And Ahab spakespoke untoto Naboth, saying, Give me thyyour vineyard, that I may have it for a vegetable garden of herbs, because it is nearclose untobeside my house;, and I will give theeyou for it a better vineyard than it: or,in ifits itplace; seemif goodyou to theelike, I will give theeyou the worthprice of it in money.
21:3 AndBut Naboth said to Ahab, JehovahThe Lord forbid it me, that I should give you the inheritance of my fathers unto thee.
21:4 AndSo Ahab came into his house heavysullen and displeasedvexed because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him; for he had said, I will not give theeyou the inheritance of my fathers. And he laidlay him down uponon his bed, and turned away his face, and wouldate eat no breadfood.
21:5 But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said untoto him, WhyHow is thyit that your spirit is so sad, sullen that thouyou eatestare nonot breadeating food?
21:6 AndSo he said untoto her, Because I spakespoke untoto Naboth the Jezreelite, and said untoto him, Give me thyyour vineyard for money; or else, if it pleasepleases theeyou, I will give theeyou anothera vineyard forin it:its andplace. But he answeredsaid, I will not give theeyou my vineyard.
21:7 And Jezebel his wife said untoto him, DostDo thouyou now governreign theover kingdom of Israel? ariseArise, and eat bread, and let thyyour heart be merry:joyful; I will give theeyou the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.
21:8 So she wrote letters in Ahabs name, and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters untoto the elders and to the nobles thatwho were living with Naboth in his city, and that dwelt with Naboth.
21:9 AndNow she wrote in the letters, saying, Proclaim a fast, and setseat Naboth onat highthe amonghead of the people:;
21:10 and setseat two worthless men, base fellows, before him, and let them beartestify witness against him, saying, ThouYou didstcursed curse God and the king. AndThen thentake carry him out, and stone him to death.
21:11 AndSo the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who dweltlived in his city, did as Jezebel had sent untoword to them, accordingjust as it was written in the letters which she had sent unto them.
21:12 They proclaimed a fast, and setseated Naboth onat highthe amonghead of the people.
21:13 AndThen the two worthless men, the base fellows, came in and sat before him:; and the baseworthless fellowsmen baretestified witness against him, even against Naboth, inbefore the presence of the people, saying, Naboth didcursed curse God and the king. ThenSo they carriedtook him forthoutside out of the city, and stoned him to death with stones.
21:14 Then they sent word to Jezebel, saying, Naboth ishas been stoned, and is dead.
21:15 And it came toabout pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth washad been stoned, and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth, the Jezreelite, which he refused to give theeyou for money; for Naboth is not alive, but dead.
21:16 And it came toabout pass, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab rosearose up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.
21:17 AndThen the word of Jehovahthe Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,
21:18 Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who dwellethis in Samaria:; behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, whitherwhere he ishas gone down to take possession of it.
21:19 And thouyou shaltshall speak untoto him, saying, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, HastHave thouyou killedmurdered, and also taken possession? And thouyou shaltshall speak untoto him, saying, Thus saithsays Jehovahthe Lord, In the place where the dogs licked up the blood of Naboth shallthe dogs shall lick thyup your blood, even thineyours.
21:20 And Ahab said to Elijah, HastHave thouyou found me, O minemy enemy? And he answered, I have found theeyou, because thouyou hasthave sold thyselfyourself to do that which is evil in the sight of Jehovahthe Lord.
21:21 Behold, I will bring evil upon theeyou, and will utterly sweep theeyou away, and will cut off from Ahab every man childmale, andboth himbond that is shut up and himfree that is left at large in Israel:;
