| 1:1 |
Paul, called toas be an apostle of Jesus Christ throughby the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother, |
| 1:2 |
untoto the church of God which is at Corinth, evento themthose thatwho arehave been sanctified in Christ Jesus, calledsaints toby be saintscalling, with all thatwho in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place, their Lord and ours: |
| 1:4 |
I thank my God always concerning you, for the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus;, |
| 1:5 |
that in everything yeyou were enriched in himHim, in all utterancespeech and all knowledge;, |
| 1:6 |
even as the testimony ofconcerning Christ was confirmed in you:, |
| 1:7 |
so that yeyou comeare behindnot lacking in noany gift;, waitingawaiting foreagerly the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ;, |
| 1:8 |
who shall also confirm you untoto the end, thatblameless ye be unreproveable in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
| 1:9 |
God is faithful, through whom yeyou were called into the fellowship ofwith hisHis Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. |
| 1:10 |
Now I beseechexhort you, brethren, throughby the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that yeyou all speak the same thingagree, and that there be no divisions among you;, but thatyou ye be perfectedmade togethercomplete in the same mind and in the same judgment. |
| 1:11 |
For itI hathhave been signifiedinformed unto me concerning you, my brethren, by themChloes that are of the household of Chloepeople, that there are contentionsquarrels among you. |
| 1:12 |
Now this I mean this, that each one of you saithis saying, I am of Paul;, and I of Apollos;, and I of Cephas;, and I of Christ. |
| 1:13 |
IsHas Christ been divided? Paul was Paulnot crucified for you, was he? orOr were yeyou baptized intoin the name of Paul? |
| 1:14 |
I thank God that I baptized none of you, saveexcept Crispus and Gaius;, |
| 1:15 |
lestthat anyno man should say thatyou ye were baptized intoin my name. |
| 1:16 |
AndNow I baptizeddid baptize also the household of Stephanas:; besidesbeyond that, I knowdo not know whether I baptized any other. |
| 1:17 |
For Christ sentdid not send me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel:, not in wisdomcleverness of wordsspeech, lestthat the cross of Christ should not be made void. |
| 1:18 |
For the word of the cross is to themthose thatwho perishare perishing foolishness;, but untoto us who are being saved it is the power of God. |
| 1:19 |
For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And the discernmentcleverness of the discerningclever will I bringwill toset noughtaside. |
| 1:20 |
Where is the wise man? whereWhere is the scribe? whereWhere is the disputerdebater of this worldage? hathHas not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? |
| 1:21 |
For seeingsince that in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom knewdid not come to know God, itGod was Godswell goodpleased pleasure through the foolishness of the preachingmessage preached to save themthose thatwho believe. |
| 1:22 |
SeeingFor thatindeed Jews ask for signs, and Greeks seeksearch afterfor wisdom:; |
| 1:23 |
but we preach Christ crucified, untoto Jews a stumblingblockstumbling block, and untoto Gentiles foolishness;, |
| 1:24 |
but untoto themthose thatwho are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. |
| 1:25 |
Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men;, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. |
| 1:26 |
For beholdconsider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise afteraccording to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:; |
| 1:27 |
but God chosehas chosen the foolish things of the world, that he might put to shame themthe that are wise;, and God chosehas chosen the weak things of the world, that he might put to shame the things thatwhich are strong;, |
| 1:28 |
and the base things of the world, and the things that are despised, did God choosehas chosen, yea and the things that are not, that heHe might bringnullify to nought the things that are:, |
| 1:29 |
that no fleshman should gloryboast before God. |
| 1:30 |
But ofby himHis doing you are ye in Christ Jesus, who wasbecame madeto unto us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption:, |
| 1:31 |
that, accordingjust as it is written, HeLet thathim gloriethwho boasts, letboast him glory in the Lord. |
| 2:1 |
And I, brethren, when I came untoto you, camebrethren, I did not come with excellencysuperiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God. |
| 2:2 |
For I determined not to know anythingnothing among you, saveexcept Jesus Christ, and himHim crucified. |
| 2:3 |
And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. |
| 2:4 |
And my speechmessage and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:, |
| 2:5 |
that your faith should not standrest inon the wisdom of men, but inon the power of God. |
| 2:6 |
WeYet we do speak wisdom, however, among themthose thatwho are fullgrown:mature; yet a wisdom, however, not of this worldage, nor of the rulers of this worldage, who are comingpassing to nought:away; |
| 2:7 |
but we speak Gods wisdom in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom that hath been hidden, which God foreordainedpredestined before the worldsages untoto our glory:; |
| 2:8 |
the wisdom which none of the rulers of this worldage hathhas known:understood; for hadif they knownhad understood it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory:; |
| 2:9 |
but just as it is written, Things which eye sawhas not, seen and ear heardhas not heard, And which enteredhave not intoentered the heart of man, WhatsoeverAll thingsthat God has prepared for themthose thatwho love himHim. |
| 2:10 |
ButFor untoto us God revealed them through the Spirit:; for the Spirit searchethsearches all things, yea, even the deepdepths things of God. |
| 2:11 |
For who among men knowethknows the thingsthoughts of a man, saveexcept the spirit of the man, which is in him? evenEven so the thingsthoughts of God noneno knoweth, one saveknows except the Spirit of God. |
| 2:12 |
ButNow we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spiritSpirit whichwho is from God;, that we might know the things that were freely given to us ofby God., |
| 2:13 |
Whichwhich things we also we speak, not in words whichtaught mansby human wisdom teacheth, but whichin those taught by the Spirit, teacheth; combining spiritual thingsthoughts with spiritual words. |
| 2:14 |
NowBut thea natural man receivethdoes not accept the things of the Spirit of God:; for they are foolishness untoto him;, and he cannot knowunderstand them, because they are spiritually judgedappraised. |
| 2:15 |
But he thatwho is spiritual judgethappraises all things, andyet he himself is judgedappraised ofby no man. |
| 2:16 |
For who hathhas known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct himHim? But we have the mind of Christ. |
| 3:1 |
And I, brethren, could not speak untoto you as untoto spiritual men, but as untoto carnalmen of flesh, as untoto babes in Christ. |
| 3:2 |
I fedgave you withmilk milkto drink, not withsolid meatfood; for yeyou were not yet able to bearreceive it:. nayIndeed, not even now you are yenot yet able;, |
| 3:3 |
for yeyou are yetstill carnal:fleshly. forFor whereassince there is among you jealousy and strife among you, are yeyou not carnalfleshly, and doare yeyou not walkwalking afterlike themere manner of men? |
| 3:4 |
For when one saithsays, I am of Paul;, and another, I am of Apollos;, are yeyou not mere men? |
| 3:5 |
What then is Apollos? andAnd what is Paul? MinistersServants through whom yeyou believed;, andeven each as the Lord gave opportunity to himeach one. |
| 3:6 |
I planted, Apollos watered;, but God gavewas causing the increasegrowth. |
| 3:7 |
So then neither isthe heone thatwho plantethplants anything, nor neitherthe heone thatwho watereth;waters is anything, but God thatwho givethcauses the increasegrowth. |
| 3:8 |
Now he thatwho plantethplants and he thatwho waterethwaters are one:; but each shallwill receive his own reward according to his own labor. |
| 3:9 |
For we are Gods fellow workers:; yeyou are Gods husbandryfield, Gods building. |
| 3:10 |
According to the grace of God which was given untoto me, as a wise masterbuildermaster builder I laid a foundation;, and another buildethis thereonbuilding upon it. But let each man takebe heedcareful how he buildethbuilds thereonupon it. |
| 3:11 |
For otherno foundationman can nolay mana layfoundation other than thatthe one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. |
| 3:12 |
ButNow if any man buildethbuilds onupon the foundation with gold, silver, costlyprecious stones, wood, hay, stubble;straw, |
| 3:13 |
each mans work shallwill bebecome madeevident; manifest: for the day shallwill declareshow it, because it is to be revealed inwith fire; and the fire itself shallwill provetest eachthe mansquality work of whateach sortmans it iswork. |
| 3:14 |
If any mans work shall abide which he has built thereonupon it remains, he shall receive a reward. |
| 3:15 |
If any mans work shallis beburned burnedup, he shall suffer loss:; but he himself shall be saved;, yet so as through fire. |
| 3:16 |
KnowDo yeyou not know that yeyou are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwellethdwells in you? |
| 3:17 |
If any man destroyethdestroys the temple of God, himGod shallwill God destroy; him, for the temple of God is holy, and suchthat is what you are ye. |
| 3:18 |
Let no man deceive himself. If any man thinkethamong you thinks that he is wise among you in this worldage, let him become afoolish fool, that he may become wise. |
| 3:19 |
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness withbefore God. For it is written, He thatis takeththe one who catches the wise in their craftiness:; |
| 3:20 |
and again, The Lord knowethknows the reasonings of the wise, that they are vainuseless. |
| 3:21 |
WhereforeSo then let no one gloryboast in men. For all things arebelong yours;to you, |
| 3:22 |
whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all arethings yours;belong to you, |
| 3:23 |
and yeyou arebelong Christsto Christ; and Christ isbelongs Godsto God. |
| 4:1 |
Let a man soregard accountus ofin usthis manner, as ofservants ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. |
| 4:2 |
HereIn this case, moreover, it is required inof stewards, that aone man be found faithfultrustworthy. |
| 4:3 |
But withto me it is a very small thing that I should be judgedexamined ofby you, or ofby mansany judgment:human yeacourt; in fact, I judgedo not mineeven ownexamine selfmyself. |
| 4:4 |
For I knowam conscious of nothing against myself;, yet I am I not herebyby justified:this acquitted; but hethe thatone judgethwho examines me is the Lord. |
| 4:5 |
WhereforeTherefore judgedo nothingnot go on passing judgment before the time, but wait until the Lord come, comes who will both bring to light the things hidden thingsin ofthe darkness, and makedisclose manifest the counselsmotives of themens hearts; and then shall each manmans havepraise hiswill praisecome to him from God. |
| 4:6 |
Now these things, brethren, I have infiguratively aapplied figure transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes;, that in us yeyou might learn not to goexceed beyondwhat theis thingswritten, whichin areorder written; that no one of you bemight puffedbecome uparrogant forin thebehalf of one against the other. |
| 4:7 |
For who makethregards theeyou toas differsuperior? andAnd what hastdo thouyou have that thouyou didstdid not receive? butBut if thouyou didstdid receive it, why dostdo thouyou gloryboast as if thouyou hadsthad not received it? |
| 4:8 |
AlreadyYou are yealready filled, alreadyyou yehave arealready become rich, yeyou have comebecome tokings reign without us:; yea and I would indeed that yeyou didhad reign, become kings so that we also might reign with you. |
| 4:9 |
For, I think, God hathhas setexhibited forth us the apostles last of all, as men doomedcondemned to death:; forbecause we arehave madebecome a spectacle untoto the world, both to angels and to men. |
| 4:10 |
We are fools for Christs sake, but yeyou are wiseprudent in Christ; we are weak, but yeyou are strong; yeyou haveare glorydistinguished, but we haveare dishonorwithout honor. |
| 4:11 |
EvenTo unto this present hour we are both hunger, hungry and thirstthirsty, and are nakedpoorly clothed, and are buffetedroughly treated, and haveare no certain dwelling placehomeless; |
| 4:12 |
and we toil, working with our own hands:; beingwhen we are reviled, we bless; beingwhen we are persecuted, we endure; |
| 4:13 |
beingwhen defamedwe are slandered, we entreat:try to conciliate; we arehave madebecome as the filthscum of the world, the offscouringdregs of all things, even until now. |
| 4:14 |
I writedo not write these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children. |
| 4:15 |
For thoughif yeyou were to have tencountless thousand tutors in Christ, yet haveyou yewould not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I begatbecame youyour father through the gospel. |
| 4:16 |
I beseechexhort you therefore, be ye imitators of me. |
| 4:17 |
For this causereason I have I sent untoto you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, whoand shallhe putwill remind you in remembrance of my ways which are in Christ, evenjust as I teach everywhere in every church. |
| 4:18 |
Now some arehave puffedbecome uparrogant, as though I were not coming to you. |
| 4:19 |
But I will come to you shortlysoon, if the Lord will;wills, and I willshall knowfind out, not the wordwords of themthose thatwho are puffed uparrogant, but thetheir power. |
| 4:20 |
For the kingdom of God isdoes not consist in wordwords, but in power. |
| 4:21 |
What willdo yeyou desire? shallShall I come untoto you with a rod, or inwith love and a spirit of gentleness? |
| 5:1 |
It is actually reported that there is fornicationimmorality among you, and immorality of such fornicationa kind as isdoes not exist even among the Gentiles, that onesomeone ofhas you hath his fathers wife. |
| 5:2 |
And yeyou arehave puffedbecome uparrogant, and didhave not rathermourned mourninstead, thatin heorder that the one who had done this deed might be takenremoved away from amongyour youmidst. |
| 5:3 |
For I, verilyon my part, beingthough absent in body but present in spirit, have already asjudged thoughhim Iwho werehas presentso judgedcommitted himthis, thatas haththough soI wroughtwere this thing, present. |
| 5:4 |
inIn the name of our Lord Jesus, yewhen beingyou gatheredare togetherassembled, and myI with you in spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus, |
| 5:5 |
I have decided to deliver such a one untoto Satan for the destruction of thehis flesh, that thehis spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. |
| 5:6 |
Your gloryingboasting is not good. KnowDo yeyou not know that a little leaven leavenethleavens the whole lump of dough? |
| 5:7 |
PurgeClean out the old leaven, that yeyou may be a new lump, evenjust as yeyou are in fact unleavened. For Christ our passoverPassover also hathhas been sacrificed, even Christ:. |
| 5:8 |
whereforeLet let us keeptherefore celebrate the feast, not with old leaven, neithernor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. |
| 5:9 |
I wrote unto you in my epistleletter not to haveassociate nowith companyimmoral with fornicatorspeople; |
| 5:10 |
I did not at all meaningmean with the fornicatorsimmoral people of this world, or with the covetous and extortionersswindlers, or with idolaters; for then mustyou yewould needshave to go out of the world:. |
| 5:11 |
butBut as it isactually, I wrote untoto you not to keepassociate company, with if any manso thatcalled isbrother namedif ahe brothershould be aan fornicatorimmoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or ana extortioner;swindler not even to eat with such a one no, not to eat. |
| 5:12 |
For what have I to do with judging them that are withoutoutsiders? Do you not ye judge themthose thatwho are within the church? |
| 5:13 |
But themthose thatwho are withoutoutside, God judgethjudges. PutRemove away the wicked man from among yourselves. |
| 6:1 |
DareDoes any one of you, havingwhen he has a mattercase against his neighbor, dare to go to law before the unrighteous, and not before the saints? |
| 6:2 |
Or knowdo yeyou not know that the saints shallwill judge the world? andAnd if the world is judged by you, are yeyou unworthynot competent to judgeconstitute the smallest matterslaw courts? |
| 6:3 |
KnowDo yeyou not know that we shall judge angels? howHow much more, thingsmatters thatof pertain to this life? |
| 6:4 |
If then yeyou have tolaw judgecourts thingsdealing pertainingwith tomatters of this life, do yeyou setappoint them toas judgejudges who are of no account in the church? |
| 6:5 |
I say this to moveyour you to shame. WhatIs it so, cannotthat there beis foundnot among you one wise man who shallwill be able to decide between his brethren, |
| 6:6 |
but brother goethgoes to law with brother, and that before unbelievers? |
| 6:7 |
NayActually, alreadythen, it is altogetheralready a defectdefeat infor you, that yeyou have lawsuits with one with another. Why not rather takebe wrongwronged? whyWhy not rather be defrauded? |
| 6:8 |
NayOn the contrary, butyou ye yourselves do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren. |
| 6:9 |
Or knowdo yeyou not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? BeDo not be deceived:; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with menhomosexuals, |
| 6:10 |
nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortionersswindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God. |
| 6:11 |
And such were some of you:; but yeyou were washed, but yeyou were sanctified, but yeyou were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God. |
| 6:12 |
All things are lawful for me;, but not all things are expedientprofitable. All things are lawful for me;, but I will not be broughtmastered underby the power of anyanything. |
| 6:13 |
MeatsFood is for the bellystomach, and the bellystomach is for meats:food; but God shallwill bringdo toaway noughtwith both itof and them. ButYet the body is not for fornicationimmorality, but for the Lord; and the Lord is for the body:. |
| 6:14 |
andNow God bothhas not only raised the Lord, andbut will also raise us up us through hisHis power. |
| 6:15 |
KnowDo yeyou not know that your bodies are members of Christ? shallShall I then take away the members of Christ, and make them members of a harlot? GodMay forbid.it never be! |
| 6:16 |
Or knowdo yeyou not know that hethe thatone iswho joinedjoins himself to a harlot is one body with her? for,For TheHe twainsays, saithThe he,two shallwill become one flesh. |
| 6:17 |
But hethe thatone iswho joinedjoins untohimself to the Lord is one spirit with Him. |
| 6:18 |
Flee fornicationimmorality. Every other sin that a man doethcommits is withoutoutside the body;, but hethe thatimmoral committethman fornicationsins sinneth against his own body. |
| 6:19 |
Or knowdo yeyou not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit whichwho is in you, whichwhom yeyou have from God?, and yethat you are not your own;? |
| 6:20 |
forFor yeyou werehave been bought with a price: therefore glorify God therefore in your body. |
| 7:1 |
Now concerning the things whereofabout yewhich you wrote:, Itit is good for a man not to touch a woman. |
| 7:2 |
But, because of fornicationsimmoralities, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. |
| 7:3 |
Let the husband renderfulfill untohis theduty wifeto herhis due:wife, and likewise also the wife untoto theher husband. |
| 7:4 |
The wife hathdoes not powerhave authority over her own body, but the husband: does; and likewise also the husband hathdoes not powerhave authority over his own body, but the wife does. |
| 7:5 |
DefraudStop yedepriving not one the otheranother, except it be by consentagreement for a season, time that yeyou may givedevote yourselves untoto prayer, and maycome be together again, thatlest Satan tempt you not because of your incontinencylack of self control. |
| 7:6 |
But this I say by way of concession, not of commandmentcommand. |
| 7:7 |
Yet I wouldwish that all men were even as I myself am. HowbeitHowever, each man hathhas his own gift from God, one afterin this manner, and another afterin that. |
| 7:8 |
But I say to the unmarried and to widows, Itthat it is good for them if they abideremain even as I. |
| 7:9 |
But if they havedo not continencyhave self control, let them marry:; for it is better to marry than to burn. |
| 7:10 |
But untoto the married I give chargeinstructions, yea not I, but the Lord, Thatthat the wife departshould not fromleave her husband |
| 7:11 |
but shouldif she departdoes leave, let her remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband;, and that the husband leaveshould not send his wife away. |
| 7:12 |
But to the rest I say I, not the Lord:, Ifthat if any brother hathhas a wife who is an unbelieving wifeunbeliever, and she isconsents content to dwelllive with him, let him not leavesend her away. |
| 7:13 |
And thea woman thatwho hathhas an unbelieving husband, and he isconsents content to dwelllive with her, let her not leavesend her husband away. |
| 7:14 |
For the unbelieving husband is sanctified inthrough thehis wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified inthrough theher brother:believing elsehusband; werefor otherwise your children are unclean;, but now they are they holy. |
| 7:15 |
Yet if the unbelieving departethone leaves, let him depart:leave; the brother or the sister is not under bondage in such cases:, but God hathhas called us into peace. |
| 7:16 |
For how knowestdo thouyou know, O wife, whether thouyou shaltwill save thyyour husband? orOr how knowestdo thouyou know, O husband, whether thouyou shaltwill save thyyour wife? |
| 7:17 |
Only, as the Lord hathhas distributedassigned to each manone, as God hathhas called each, soin this manner let him walk. And sothus ordain I direct in all the churches. |
| 7:18 |
Was any man called beingalready circumcised? letLet him not become uncircumcised. HathHas anyanyone been called in uncircumcision? letLet him not be circumcised. |
| 7:19 |
Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing;, but what matters is the keeping of the commandments of God. |
| 7:20 |
Let each man abideremain in that callingcondition whereinin which he was called. |
| 7:21 |
WastWere thouyou called beingwhile a bondservantslave? careDo not forworry about it:; nay,but even if thouyou canstare able also to become free, userather itdo ratherthat. |
| 7:22 |
For he thatwho was called in the Lord beingwhile a bondservantslave, is the Lords freedman:; likewise he thatwho was called beingwhile free, is Christs bondservantslave. |
| 7:23 |
YeYou were bought with a price; becomedo not bondservantsbecome slaves of men. |
| 7:24 |
Brethren, let each man, whereinremain hewith wasGod called,in thereinthat abidecondition within Godwhich he was called. |
| 7:25 |
Now concerning virgins I have no commandmentcommand of the Lord:, but I give myan judgment, opinion as one thatwho hathby obtainedthe mercy of the Lord tois be trustworthy. |
| 7:26 |
I think thereforethen that this is good byin reasonview of the present distress that is upon us, namely, that it is good for a man to beremain as he is. |
| 7:27 |
ArtAre thouyou bound untoto a wife? seekDo not seek to be loosedreleased. ArtAre thouyou loosedreleased from a wife? seekDo not seek a wife. |
| 7:28 |
But shouldestif thouyou should marry, thouyou hasthave not sinned; and if a virgin should marry, she hathhas not sinned. Yet such shallwill have tribulationtrouble in thethis flesh:life, and I wouldam trying to spare you. |
| 7:29 |
But this I say, brethren, the time ishas been shortened, so that henceforthfrom bothnow on those thatwho have wives mayshould be as though they had none; |
| 7:30 |
and those thatwho weep, as though they weptdid not weep; and those thatwho rejoice, as though they rejoiceddid not rejoice; and those thatwho buy, as though they possesseddid not possess; |
| 7:31 |
and those thatwho use the world, as notthough usingthey itdid tonot themake full: use of it; for the fashionform of this world passethis passing away. |
| 7:32 |
But I wouldwant have you to be free from caresconcern. HeOne thatwho is unmarried is carefulconcerned forabout the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord:; |
| 7:33 |
but heone thatwho is married is carefulconcerned forabout the things of the world, how he may please his wife, |
| 7:34 |
and ishis interests are divided. SoAnd also the woman thatwho is unmarried, and the virgin, is carefulconcerned forabout the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit:; but sheone thatwho is married is carefulconcerned forabout the things of the world, how she may please her husband. |
| 7:35 |
And this I say for your own profitbenefit; not thatto Iput may cast a snarerestraint upon you, but forto thatpromote whichwhat is seemly, and thatto yesecure mayundistracted attenddevotion uponto the Lord without distraction. |
| 7:36 |
But if any man thinkeththinks that he behavethis himselfacting unseemlyunbecomingly toward his virgin daughter, if she should be past the flower of herfull age, and if needit must be so requireth, let him do what he will;wishes, he sinnethdoes not sin; let themher marry. |
| 7:37 |
But he thatwho standethstands stedfastfirm in his heart, havingbeing under no necessityconstraint, but hathhas powerauthority asover touching his own will, and hathhas determineddecided this in his own heart, to keep his own virgin daughter, shallhe will do well. |
| 7:38 |
So then both he thatwho givethgives his own virgin daughter in marriage doethdoes well;, and he thatwho givethdoes not give her not in marriage shallwill do better. |
| 7:39 |
A wife is bound foras so long time as her husband livethlives; but if theher husband beis dead, she is free to be married to whom she will;wishes, only in the Lord. |
| 7:40 |
But in my opinion she is happier if she abideremains as she is,; after my judgment: and I think that I also have the Spirit of God. |
| 8:1 |
Now concerning things sacrificed to idols:, Wewe know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffethmakes uparrogant, but love edifiethedifies. |
| 8:2 |
If anyanyone mansupposes thinketh that he knowethknows anything, he knowethhas not yet known as he ought to know; |
| 8:3 |
but if anyanyone manloves loveth God, thehe same is known by himHim. |
| 8:4 |
ConcerningTherefore thereforeconcerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that there is no idolsuch isthing anythingas an idol in the world, and that there is no God but one. |
| 8:5 |
For thougheven if there beare thatso are called gods, whether in heaven or on earth;, as indeed there are many gods and many, and Lords many;, |
| 8:6 |
yet tofor us there is but one God, the Father, offrom whom are all things, and we untoexist himfor Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, throughby whom are all things, and we exist through himHim. |
| 8:7 |
HowbeitHowever there is not in all men thathave this knowledge:; but some, being usedaccustomed until now to the idol until now, eat food as ofif ait thingwere sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled. |
| 8:8 |
But food will not commend us to God:; neither, if we eat not, are weneither the worse; nor, if we do not eat, arenor the better if we thedo bettereat. |
| 8:9 |
But take heedcare lest by any means this liberty of yours somehow become a stumblingblockstumbling block to the weak. |
| 8:10 |
For if asomeone mansees seeyou, thee who hasthave knowledge, sittingdining at meat in an idols temple, will not his conscience, if he is weak, be emboldenedstrengthened to eat things sacrificed to idols? |
| 8:11 |
For through thyyour knowledge he thatwho is weak perishethis ruined, the brother for whose sake Christ died. |
| 8:12 |
And thus, by sinning against the brethren, and wounding their conscience when it is weak, yeyou sin against Christ. |
| 8:13 |
WhereforeTherefore, if meatfood causethcauses my brother to stumble, I will never eat nomeat flesh for evermoreagain, that I causemight not cause my brother to stumble. |
| 9:1 |
Am I not free? amAm I not an apostle? haveHave I not seen Jesus our Lord? areAre you not ye my work in the Lord? |
| 9:2 |
If to others I am not an apostle, yet at least I am to you; for you are the seal of minemy apostleship are ye in the Lord. |
| 9:3 |
My defencedefense to themthose thatwho examine me is this.: |
| 9:4 |
HaveDo we nonot have a right to eat and to drink? |
| 9:5 |
HaveDo we nonot have a right to leadtake aboutalong a believing wife that is a believer, even as the rest of the apostles, and the brethrenbrothers of the Lord, and Cephas? |
| 9:6 |
Or Ido only and Barnabas, haveand weI not have a right to forbearrefrain from working? |
| 9:7 |
WhatWho soldierat everany servethtime serves as a soldier at his own chargesexpense? whoWho plantethplants a vineyard, and eatethdoes not eat the fruit thereofof it? orOr who feedethtends a flock, and eatethdoes not ofuse the milk of the flock? |
| 9:8 |
Do I speakam not speaking these things afteraccording theto mannerhuman ofjudgment, menam I? orOr saithdoes not the lawLaw also thesay samethese things? |
| 9:9 |
For it is written in the lawLaw of Moses, ThouYou shaltshall not muzzle the ox whenwhile he treadethis outthreshing. theGod corn.is Isnot itconcerned forabout the oxen, thatis God careth,He? |
| 9:10 |
orOr saithis heHe itspeaking assuredlyaltogether for our sake? YeaYes, for our sake it was written:, because hethe thatplowman ploweth ought to plow in hope, and hethe thatthresher thresheth, to thresh in hope of partakingsharing the crops. |
| 9:11 |
If we sowed untospiritual youthings spiritualin thingsyou, is it atoo greatmuch matter if we shallshould reap yourmaterial carnalthings thingsfrom you? |
| 9:12 |
If others partakeshare ofthe this right over you, do not we yetnot more? Nevertheless, we did not use this right;, but we bearendure all things, that we may cause no hindrance to the gospel of Christ. |
| 9:13 |
KnowDo yeyou not know that theythose thatwho ministerperform about sacred thingsservices eat of the thingsfood of the temple, and theythose thatwho waitattend uponregularly to the altar have their portionshare with the altar? |
| 9:14 |
EvenSo soalso did the Lord ordaindirected thatthose theywho that proclaim the gospel shouldto liveget oftheir living from the gospel. |
| 9:15 |
But I have used none of these things:. andAnd I writeam not writing these things that it may be done so done in my case; for it werewould goodbe better for me rather to die, than thathave any man should make my gloryingboast voidan empty one. |
| 9:16 |
For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to gloryboast of;, for necessityI isam laidunder upon mecompulsion; for woe is unto me, if I preachdo not preach the gospel. |
| 9:17 |
For if I do this of mine own willvoluntarily, I have a reward:; but if notagainst ofmy mine own will, I have a stewardship intrustedentrusted to me. |
| 9:18 |
What then is my reward? That, when I preach the gospel, I may makeoffer the gospel without charge, so as not to usemake tofull theuse fullof my right in the gospel. |
| 9:19 |
For though I wasam free from all men, I broughthave made myself undera bondageslave to all, that I might gainwin the more. |
| 9:20 |
And to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gainwin Jews; to themthose thatwho are under the lawLaw, as under the lawLaw, though not being myself under the lawLaw, that I might gainwin themthose thatwho are under the lawLaw; |
| 9:21 |
to themthose thatwho are without law, as without law, though not being without the law toof God, but under the law toof Christ, that I might gainwin themthose thatwho are without law. |
| 9:22 |
To the weak I became weak, that I might gainwin the weak:; I amhave become all things to all men, that I may by all means save some. |
| 9:23 |
And I do all things for the gospelssake sakeof the gospel, that I may bebecome a jointfellow partaker thereofof it. |
| 9:24 |
KnowDo yeyou not know that theythose thatwho run in a race all run all, but only one receivethreceives the prize? EvenRun soin run;such a way that yeyou may attainwin. |
| 9:25 |
And everyeveryone manwho thatcompetes striveth in the games exercisethexercises self control in all things. NowThey theythen do it to receive a corruptibleperishable crown;wreath, but we an incorruptibleimperishable. |
| 9:26 |
Therefore I thereforerun soin runsuch a way, as not uncertainlywithout aim; soI fightbox Iin such a way, as not beating the air:; |
| 9:27 |
but I buffet my body, and bringmake it intomy bondage:slave, lest by any meanspossibly, after that I have preached to others, I myself should be rejecteddisqualified. |
| 10:1 |
For I woulddo not, brethren, want have you ignorantto be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; |
| 10:2 |
and all were all baptized untointo Moses in the cloud and in the sea; |
| 10:3 |
and did all eatate the same spiritual food; |
| 10:4 |
and did all drinkdrank the same spiritual drink:, for they drankwere ofdrinking from a spiritual rock thatwhich followed them:; and the rock was Christ. |
| 10:5 |
HowbeitNevertheless, with most of them God was not well pleased:; for they were overthrownlaid low in the wilderness. |
| 10:6 |
Now these things werehappened ouras examples, tofor theus, intentthat we should not lustcrave after evil things, as they also lustedcraved. |
| 10:7 |
NeitherAnd do not be ye idolaters, as were some of them were; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rosestood up to play. |
| 10:8 |
NeitherNor let us commitact fornicationimmorally, as some of them committeddid, and twenty three thousand fell in one day three and twenty thousand. |
| 10:9 |
NeitherNor let us maketry trial of the Lord, as some of them made trialdid, and perishedwere destroyed by the serpents. |
| 10:10 |
NeitherNor murmur yegrumble, as some of them murmureddid, and perishedwere destroyed by the destroyer. |
| 10:11 |
Now these things happened untoto them byas wayan of example;, and they were written for our admonitioninstruction, upon whom the ends of the ages arehave come. |
| 10:12 |
WhereforeTherefore let him thatwho thinkeththinks he standethstands take heed lest he fall. |
| 10:13 |
ThereNo hathtemptation nohas temptationovertaken taken you but such as manis cancommon bear:to butman; and God is faithful, who will not sufferallow you to be tempted abovebeyond thatwhat yeyou are able;, but will with the temptation makewill alsoprovide the way of escape also, that yeyou may be able to endure it. |
| 10:14 |
WhereforeTherefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. |
| 10:15 |
I speak as to wise men; you judge ye what I say. |
| 10:16 |
TheIs not the cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a communionsharing ofin the blood of Christ? TheIs not the bread which we break, is it not a communionsharing ofin the body of Christ? |
| 10:17 |
seeingSince thatthere weis one bread, we who are many, are one bread, one body:; for we all partake of the one bread. |
| 10:18 |
BeholdLook Israelat after the flesh:nation haveIsrael; are not theythose thatwho eat the sacrifices communionsharers within the altar? |
| 10:19 |
What saydo I mean then? thatThat a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything? |
| 10:20 |
ButNo, but I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God:; and I woulddo not thatwant yeyou shouldto havebecome communionsharers within demons. |
| 10:21 |
YeYou cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of demons:; yeyou cannot partake of the table of the Lord, and of the table of demons. |
| 10:22 |
Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? We are wenot stronger than heHe, are we? |
| 10:23 |
All things are lawful;, but not all things are expedientprofitable. All things are lawful;, but not all things edify. |
| 10:24 |
Let no manone seek his own good, but eachthat of his neighbors goodneighbor. |
| 10:25 |
WhatsoeverEat anything that is sold in the shambles, meat eatmarket, without asking noquestions question for conscience sake; |
| 10:26 |
for the earth is the Lords, and theall fulnessit thereofcontains. |
| 10:27 |
If one of themthe thatunbelievers believeinvites not biddeth you to a feast, and yeyou arewish disposed to go;, whatsoevereat anything that is set before you, eat, without asking noquestions question for conscience sake. |
| 10:28 |
But if anyanyone manshould say untoto you, This hathis beenmeat offeredsacrificed into sacrificeidols, do not eat notit, for histhe sake thatof showedthe itone who informed you, and for conscience sake:; |
| 10:29 |
conscience, I say, mean not thineyour own conscience, but the othersother mans; for why is my libertyfreedom judged by anotheranothers conscience? |
| 10:30 |
If I partake with thankfulness, why am I evilslandered spokenconcerning of for that for which I give thanks? |
| 10:31 |
Whether, thereforethen, yeyou eat, or drink, or whatsoeverwhatever yeyou do, do all to the glory of God. |
| 10:32 |
Give no occasionoffense of stumbling, either to Jews, or to Greeks, or to the church of God:; |
| 10:33 |
evenjust as I also please all men in all things, not seeking minemy own profit, but the profit of the many, that they may be saved. |
| 11:1 |
Be ye imitators of me, evenjust as I also am of Christ. |
| 11:2 |
Now I praise you thatbecause yeyou remember me in all thingseverything, and hold fastfirmly to the traditions, evenjust as I delivered them to you. |
| 11:3 |
But I wouldwant have you know,to understand that Christ is the head of every man, isand Christ;the andman is the head of thea woman, isand theGod man;is and the head of Christ is God. |
| 11:4 |
Every man prayingwho orhas prophesying, something havingon his head coveredwhile praying or prophesying, dishonorethdisgraces his head. |
| 11:5 |
But every woman prayingwho orhas prophesying with her head unveileduncovered dishonorethwhile praying or prophesying, disgraces her head; for itshe is one and the same thingwith asher ifwhose shehead wereis shavenshaved. |
| 11:6 |
For if a woman isdoes not veiledcover her head, let her also behave shorn:her hair cut off; but if it is adisgraceful shamefor to a woman to behave shornher hair cut off or shavenher head shaved, let her becover veiledher head. |
| 11:7 |
For a man indeed ought not to have his head veiledcovered, forasmuchsince as he is the image and glory of God:; but the woman is the glory of the man. |
| 11:8 |
For the man isdoes not oforiginate thefrom woman;, but the woman offrom the man:; |
| 11:9 |
for neitherindeed man was thenot man created for the woman;womans sake, but the woman for the man:mans sake. |
| 11:10 |
forTherefore thisthe causewoman ought the woman to have a signsymbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. |
| 11:11 |
NeverthelessHowever, in the Lord, neither is the woman withoutindependent theof man, nor theis man withoutindependent theof woman, in the Lord. |
| 11:12 |
For as the woman isoriginates offrom the man, so isalso the man alsohas byhis birth through the woman; butand all things areoriginate offrom God. |
| 11:13 |
Judge yefor in yourselves: is it seemlyproper thatfor a woman to pray untoto God unveiledwith head uncovered? |
| 11:14 |
DothDoes not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man havehas long hair, it is a dishonor to him?, |
| 11:15 |
Butbut if a woman havehas long hair, it is a glory to her:? forFor her hair is given to her for a covering. |
| 11:16 |
But if anyone manis seemethinclined to be contentious, we have no suchother custompractice, neithernor have the churches of God. |
| 11:17 |
But in giving you this chargeinstruction, I do not praise you not, thatbecause yeyou come together not for the better but for the worse. |
| 11:18 |
For, in the first of allplace, when yeyou come together inas thea church, I hear that divisions exist among you; and in part, I partly believe it. |
| 11:19 |
For there must also be also factions among you, thatin theyorder that those who are approved may behave madebecome manifestevident among you. |
| 11:20 |
WhenTherefore thereforewhen yeyou assemblemeet yourselves together, it is not possible to eat the Lords supper:Supper, |
| 11:21 |
for in your eating each one takethtakes before other his own supper first; and one is hungry, and another is drunkendrunk. |
| 11:22 |
What,! haveDo yeyou not have houses in which to eat and to drink in? orOr do you despise ye the church of God, and putshame themthose towho shame that have notnothing? What shall I say to you? shallShall I praise you? In this I will not praise you not. |
| 11:23 |
For I received offrom the Lord that which I also I delivered untoto you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which heHe was betrayed took bread; |
| 11:24 |
and when heHe had given thanks, heHe brakebroke it, and said, This is myMy body, which is for you:; do this do in remembrance of meMe. |
| 11:25 |
In likethe mannersame alsoway He took the cup also, after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in myMy blood:; do this do, as often as yeyou drink it, in remembrance of meMe. |
| 11:26 |
For as often as yeyou eat this bread, and drink the cup, yeyou proclaim the Lords death tilluntil heHe comecomes. |
| 11:27 |
WhereforeTherefore whosoeverwhoever shalleats eat the bread or drinkdrinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. |
| 11:28 |
But let a man proveexamine himself, and so let him eat of the bread, and drink of the cup. |
| 11:29 |
For he thatwho eatetheats and drinkethdrinks, eatetheats and drinkethdrinks judgment untoto himself, if he discerndoes not judge the body rightly. |
| 11:30 |
For this causereason many among you are weak and sicklysick, and not a fewnumber sleep. |
| 11:31 |
But if we discernedjudged ourselves rightly, we should not be judged. |
| 11:32 |
But when we are judged, we are chasteneddisciplined ofby the Lord, in order that we may not be condemned along with the world. |
| 11:33 |
WhereforeSo then, my brethren, when yeyou come together to eat, wait for one for another. |
| 11:34 |
If anyanyone man is hungry, let him eat at home;, so that youryou comingmay togethernot become nottogether untofor judgment. And the restremaining willmatters I setshall inarrange orderwhen whensoever I come. |
| 12:1 |
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I woulddo not havewant you ignorantto be unaware. |
| 12:2 |
YeYou know that when yeyou were Gentilespagans, yeyou were led awayastray untoto thosethe dumb idols, howsoeverhowever yeyou mightwere be led. |
| 12:3 |
WhereforeTherefore I make known untoto you, that no manone speaking inby the Spirit of God saithsays, Jesus is anathemaaccursed; and no manone can say, Jesus is Lord, butexcept inby the Holy Spirit. |
| 12:4 |
Now there are diversitiesvarieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. |
| 12:5 |
And there are diversitiesvarieties of ministrationsministries, and the same Lord. |
| 12:6 |
And there are diversitiesvarieties of workingseffects, but the same God, who workethworks all things in all persons. |
| 12:7 |
But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit tofor profitthe withalcommon good. |
| 12:8 |
For to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom; through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit:; |
| 12:9 |
to another faith, inby the same Spirit;, and to another gifts of healings, healing inby the one Spirit;, |
| 12:10 |
and to another workingsthe effecting of miracles;, and to another prophecy;, and to another discerningsthe distinguishing of spirits:, to another diversvarious kinds of tongues;, and to another the interpretation of tongues:. |
| 12:11 |
butBut all these worketh the one and the same Spirit works all these things, dividingdistributing to each one severallyindividually evenjust as heHe willwills. |
| 12:12 |
For even as the body is one, and hathyet has many members, and all the members of the body, beingthough they are many, are one body;, so also is Christ. |
| 12:13 |
For inby one Spirit we were we all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bondslaves or free;, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. |
| 12:15 |
If the foot shallshould say, Because I am not thea hand, I am not a part of the body;, it is not thereforefor notthis reason any the less a part of the body. |
| 12:16 |
And if the ear shallshould say, Because I am not thean eye, I am not a part of the body;, it is not thereforefor notthis reason any the less a part of the body. |
| 12:17 |
If the whole body were an eye, where werewould the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where werewould the smellingsense of smell be? |
| 12:18 |
But now hath God sethas placed the members, each one of them, in the body, evenjust as itHe pleased himdesired. |
| 12:19 |
And if they were all one member, where werewould the body be? |
| 12:20 |
But now theythere are many members, but one body. |
| 12:21 |
And the eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of thee:you; or again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. |
| 12:22 |
NayOn the contrary, it is much rather, truer thosethat the members of the body which seem to be moreweaker feeble are necessary:; |
| 12:23 |
and those partsmembers of the body, which we thinkdeem to be less honorable, uponon these we bestow more abundant honor;, and our uncomelyunseemly partsmembers come to have more abundant comeliness;seemliness, |
| 12:24 |
whereas our comelyseemly partsmembers have no need: butof it. But God temperedhas so composed the body together, giving more abundant honor to that partmember which lacked;, |
| 12:25 |
that there should be no schismdivision in the body;, but that the members should have the same care for one for another. |
| 12:26 |
And whetherif one member sufferethsuffers, all the members suffer with it; orif one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. |
| 12:27 |
Now yeyou are theChrists body of Christ, and severallyindividually members thereofof it. |
| 12:28 |
And God hathhas setappointed some in the church, first apostles, secondlysecond prophets, thirdlythird teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governmentsadministrations, diversvarious kinds of tongues. |
| 12:29 |
AreAll allare not apostles, are they? All are allnot prophets, are they? All are allnot teachers, are they? All are allnot workers of miracles, are they? |
| 12:30 |
All do not have all gifts of healings, do they? All do allnot speak with tongues, do they? All do allnot interpret, do they? |
| 12:31 |
But earnestly desire earnestly the greater gifts. And moreoverI show you a moststill more excellent way show I unto you. |
| 13:1 |
If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but havedo not have love, I amhave become soundinga brass, noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. |
| 13:2 |
And if I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but havedo not have love, I am nothing. |
| 13:3 |
And if I bestowgive all my goodspossessions to feed the poor, and if I givedeliver my body to be burned, but havedo not have love, it profitethprofits me nothing. |
| 13:4 |
Love sufferethis longpatient, andlove is kind;, loveand enviethis not jealous; love vauntethdoes not itself, brag and is not puffed uparrogant, |
| 13:5 |
dothdoes not behaveact itselfunbecomingly; unseemly,it seekethdoes not seek its own, is not provoked, takethdoes not take into account ofa evil;wrong suffered, |
| 13:6 |
rejoicethdoes not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoicethrejoices with the truth; |
| 13:7 |
bearethbears all things, believethbelieves all things, hopethhopes all things, endurethendures all things. |
| 13:8 |
Love never faileth:fails; but whetherif there beare propheciesgifts of prophecy, they shallwill be done away; whetherif there beare tongues, they shallwill cease; whetherif there beis knowledge, it shallwill be done away. |
| 13:10 |
but when thatthe which is perfect is comecomes, thatthe whichpartial iswill in part shall be done away. |
| 13:11 |
When I was a child, I spakeused to speak as a child, Ithink felt as a child, Ireason thought as a child:; nowwhen that I ambecame become a man, I havedid put away with childish things. |
| 13:12 |
For now we see in a mirror dimly, darkly; but then face to face:; now I know in part;, but then I shall I know fully evenjust as I also Ihave wasbeen fully known. |
| 13:13 |
But now abidethabide faith, hope, love, these three; andbut the greatest of these is love. |
| 14:1 |
FollowPursue after love;, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but ratherespecially that yeyou may prophesy. |
| 14:2 |
For heone thatwho speakethspeaks in a tongue speakethdoes not untospeak to men, but untoto God; for no manone understandeth;understands, but in thehis spirit he speakethspeaks mysteries. |
| 14:3 |
But heone thatwho prophesiethprophesies speakethspeaks untoto men for edification, and exhortation, and consolation. |
| 14:4 |
HeOne thatwho speakethspeaks in a tongue edifiethedifies himself; but heone thatwho prophesiethprophesies edifiethedifies the church. |
| 14:5 |
Now I wouldwish havethat you all speakspoke within tongues, but rathereven more that yeyou shouldwould prophesy:; and greater is heone thatwho prophesiethprophesies than heone thatwho speakethspeaks within tongues, exceptunless he interpretinterprets, so that the church may receive edifying. |
| 14:6 |
But now, brethren, if I come untoto you speaking within tongues, what shall I profit you, unless I speak to you either by way of revelation, or of knowledge, or of prophesying, prophecy or of teaching? |
| 14:7 |
EvenYet thingseven withoutlifeless lifethings, givingeither aflute voiceor harp, whetherin pipeproducing ora harpsound, if they givedo not produce a distinction in the soundstones, how shallwill it be known what is pipedplayed on the flute or harpedon the harp? |
| 14:8 |
For if the trumpetbugle giveproduces an uncertainindistinct voicesound, who shallwill prepare himself for warbattle? |
| 14:9 |
So also yeyou, unless yeyou utter by the tongue speech easythat tois be understoodclear, how shallwill it be known what is spoken? forFor yeyou will be speaking into the air. |
| 14:10 |
There are, itperhaps, maya be,great so many kinds of voiceslanguages in the world, and no kind is without significationmeaning. |
| 14:11 |
If then I knowdo not know the meaning of the voicelanguage, I shall be to himthe thatone speakethwho speaks a barbarian, and hethe thatone speakethwho speaks will be a barbarian untoto me. |
| 14:12 |
So also yeyou, since yeyou are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek thatto ye may abound untofor the edifyingedification of the church. |
| 14:13 |
WhereforeTherefore let himone thatwho speakethspeaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. |
| 14:14 |
For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prayethprays, but my understandingmind is unfruitful. |
| 14:15 |
What is itthe outcome then? I willshall pray with the spirit, and I willshall pray with the understandingmind also:; I willshall sing with the spirit, and I willshall sing with the understandingmind also. |
| 14:16 |
ElseOtherwise if thouyou bless within the spirit only, how shallwill hethe thatone fillethwho fills the place of the unlearnedungifted say the Amen at thyyour giving of thanks, seeingsince he knowethdoes not know what thouyou sayestare saying? |
| 14:17 |
For thouyou verilyare givestgiving thanks well enough, but the other man is not edified. |
| 14:18 |
I thank God, I speak within tongues more than you all:; |
| 14:19 |
howbeithowever, in the church I haddesire ratherto speak five words with my understandingmind, that I mightmay instruct others also, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue. |
| 14:20 |
Brethren, bedo not be children in mind:your thinking; yet in maliceevil be ye babes, but in mindyour thinking be menmature. |
| 14:21 |
In the lawLaw it is written, By men of strange tongues and by the lips of strangers I will I speak untoto this people;, and not even thusso they will theynot hearlisten meto Me, saithsays the Lord. |
| 14:22 |
WhereforeSo then tongues are for a sign, not to themthose thatwho believe, but to theunbelievers; unbelieving: but prophesyingprophecy is for a sign, not to the unbelievingunbelievers, but to themthose thatwho believe. |
| 14:23 |
If therefore the whole church beshould assembledassemble together and all speak within tongues, and thereungifted come in men unlearned or unbelievingunbelievers enter, will they not say that yeyou are mad? |
| 14:24 |
But if all prophesy, and therean comeunbeliever inor onean unbelievingungifted orman unlearnedenters, he is reprovedconvicted by all, he is judgedcalled to account by all; |
| 14:25 |
the secrets of his heart are made manifestdisclosed; and so he will fall down on his face and worship God, declaring that God is certainly among you indeed. |
| 14:26 |
What is itthe outcome then, brethren? When yeyou come togetherassemble, each one hathhas a psalm, hathhas a teaching, hathhas a revelation, hathhas a tongue, hathhas an interpretation. Let all things be done untofor edifyingedification. |
| 14:27 |
If anyanyone manspeaks speaketh in a tongue, let it should be by two, or at the most three, and thateach in turn;, and let one interpret:; |
| 14:28 |
but if there beis no interpreter, let him keep silencesilent in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. |
| 14:29 |
And let the prophets speak by two or three prophets speak, and let the others discernpass judgment. |
| 14:30 |
But if a revelation beis made to another sittingwho byis seated, let the first keep silencesilent. |
| 14:31 |
For yeyou can all can prophesy one by one, so that all may learn, and all may be exhorted; |
| 14:32 |
and the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets; |
| 14:33 |
for God is not a God of confusion, but of peace., Asas in all the churches of the saints,. |
| 14:34 |
letLet the women keep silencesilent in the churches:; for itthey isare not permitted unto them to speak;, but let them besubject in subjectionthemselves, just as alsothe saithLaw thealso lawsays. |
| 14:35 |
And if they woulddesire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home:; for it is shamefulimproper for a woman to speak in the church. |
| 14:36 |
What? Was was it from you that the word of God first went forth? orOr camehas it untocome to you aloneonly? |
| 14:37 |
If anyanyone manthinks thinkethhe himselfis to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him takerecognize knowledgethat of the things which I write untoto you, that they are the Lords commandment of the Lord. |
| 14:38 |
But if anyanyone mandoes isnot ignorantrecognize this, lethe himis benot ignorantrecognized. |
| 14:39 |
WhereforeTherefore, my brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and forbiddo not forbid to speak within tongues. |
| 14:40 |
But let all things be done decentlyproperly and in orderan orderly manner. |
| 15:1 |
Now I make known untoto you, brethren, the gospel which I preached untoto you, which also yeyou received, whereinin which also yeyou stand, |
| 15:2 |
by which also yeyou are saved, if yeyou hold fast the word which I preached untoto you, exceptunless yeyou believed in vain. |
| 15:3 |
For I delivered untoto you firstas of allfirst thatimportance whichwhat I also I received:, that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;Scriptures, |
| 15:4 |
and that heHe was buried;, and that heHe hathwas been raised on the third day according to the scriptures;Scriptures, |
| 15:5 |
and that heHe appeared to Cephas;, then to the twelve;. |
| 15:6 |
thenAfter hethat He appeared to abovemore than five hundred brethren at onceone time, most of whom the greater part remain until now, but some arehave fallen asleep; |
| 15:7 |
then heHe appeared to James;, then to all the apostles; |
| 15:8 |
and last of all, as it were to theone child untimely born, heHe appeared to me also. |
| 15:9 |
For I am the least of the apostles, thatwho am not meetfit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. |
| 15:10 |
But by the grace of God I am what I am:, and hisHis grace whichtoward was bestowed upon me wasdid not foundprove vain; but I labored even more abundantly than they all: of them, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. |
| 15:11 |
Whether then it bewas I or they, so we preach, and so yeyou believed. |
| 15:12 |
Now if Christ is preached, that heHe hathhas been raised from the dead, how saydo some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? |
| 15:13 |
But if there is no resurrection of the dead, neithernot hatheven Christ has been raised:; |
| 15:14 |
and if Christ hathhas not been raised, then is our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. |
| 15:15 |
Yea,Moreover and we are even found to be false witnesses of God;, because we witnessed ofagainst God that heHe raised up Christ:, whom heHe raiseddid not upraise, if soin befact that the dead are not raised. |
| 15:16 |
For if the dead are not raised, neithernot hatheven Christ has been raised:; |
| 15:17 |
and if Christ hathhas not been raised, your faith is vainworthless; yeyou are yetstill in your sins. |
| 15:18 |
Then theythose also thatwho arehave fallen asleep in Christ have perished. |
| 15:19 |
If we have only hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most pitiableto be pitied. |
| 15:20 |
But now hath Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of themthose thatwho are asleep. |
| 15:21 |
For since by a man came death, by a man also came also the resurrection of the dead. |
| 15:22 |
For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all shall all be made alive. |
| 15:23 |
But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits;, thenafter they that those who are Christs, at hisHis coming., |
| 15:24 |
Thenthen comethcomes the end, when heHe shalldelivers deliver up the kingdom to the God, evenand the Father;, when heHe shallhas have abolished all rule and all authority and power. |
| 15:25 |
For heHe must reign, tilluntil heHe hathhas put all hisHis enemies under hisHis feet. |
| 15:26 |
The last enemy that shallwill be abolished is death. |
| 15:27 |
For, He has put all things in subjection under hisHis feet. But when heHe saithsays, All things are put in subjection, it is evident that heHe is excepted who didput subject all things untoin himsubjection to Him. |
| 15:28 |
And when all things haveare been subjected untoto himHim, then shall the Son Himself also himselfwill be subjected to himthe thatOne didwho subjectsubjected all things untoto himHim, that God may be all in all. |
| 15:29 |
ElseOtherwise, what shallwill theythose do thatwho are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why then are they baptized for them? |
| 15:30 |
whyWhy doare we also stand in jeopardydanger every hour? |
| 15:31 |
I protest, brethren, by thatthe gloryingboasting in you, brethren, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily. |
| 15:32 |
If afterfrom thehuman mannermotives of men I fought with wild beasts at Ephesus, what dothdoes it profit me? If the dead are not raised, let us eat and drink, for totomorrow morrow we die. |
| 15:33 |
BeDo not be deceived: EvilBad companionshipscompany corruptcorrupts good morals. |
| 15:34 |
AwakeBecome tosober sobernessminded righteouslyas you ought, and sinstop notsinning; for some have no knowledge of God:. I speak this to moveyour you to shame. |
| 15:35 |
But somesomeone one will say, How are the dead raised? andAnd with what mannerkind of body do they come? |
| 15:36 |
ThouYou foolishfool! one,That that which thouyou thyselfsow sowestdoes is not quickenedcome exceptto life unless it die:dies; |
| 15:37 |
and that which thouyou sowestsow, thouyou sowestdo not sow the body thatwhich shallis to be, but a bare grain, itperhaps may chance of wheat, or of somesomething other kind;else. |
| 15:38 |
butBut God givethgives it a body evenjust as itHe pleased himwished, and to each seedof the seeds a body of its own. |
| 15:39 |
All flesh is not the same flesh:, but there is one flesh of men, and another flesh of beasts, and another flesh of birds, and another of fishesfish. |
| 15:40 |
There are also celestialheavenly bodies, and earthly bodies, terrestrial: but the glory of the celestialheavenly is one, and the glory of the terrestrialearthly is another. |
| 15:41 |
There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differethdiffers from another star in glory. |
| 15:42 |
So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown ina corruption;perishable body, it is raised inan incorruption:imperishable body; |
| 15:43 |
it is sown in dishonor;, it is raised in glory:; it is sown in weakness;, it is raised in power:; |
| 15:44 |
it is sown a natural body;, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. |
| 15:45 |
So also it is written, The first man, Adam, became a living soul. The last Adam became a lifelifegiving giving spirit. |
| 15:46 |
HowbeitHowever, thatthe spiritual is not first which is spiritual, but thatthe which is natural; then thatthe which is spiritual. |
| 15:47 |
The first man is offrom the earth, earthy:; the second man is offrom heaven. |
| 15:48 |
As is the earthy, suchso also are theythose alsowho that are earthy:; and as is the heavenly, suchso also are theythose alsowho that are heavenly. |
| 15:49 |
And just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. |
| 15:50 |
Now this I say this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neithernor dothdoes corruptionthe perishable inherit incorruptionthe imperishable. |
| 15:51 |
Behold, I tell you a mystery:; Wewe all shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, |
| 15:52 |
in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump:trumpet; for the trumpet shallwill sound, and the dead shallwill be raised incorruptibleimperishable, and we shall be changed. |
| 15:53 |
For this corruptibleperishable must put on incorruptionthe imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality. |
| 15:54 |
But when this corruptibleperishable shallwill have put on incorruptionthe imperishable, and this mortal shallwill have put on immortality, then shallwill come toabout pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. |
| 15:55 |
O death, where is thyyour victory? O death, where is thyyour sting? |
| 15:56 |
The sting of death is sin;, and the power of sin is the law:; |
| 15:57 |
but thanks be to God, who givethgives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. |
| 15:58 |
WhereforeTherefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfaststeadfast, unmoveableimmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuchknowing as ye know that your labortoil is not in vain in the Lord. |
| 16:1 |
Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I gavedirected order to the churches of Galatia, so also do yeyou also. |
| 16:2 |
UponOn the first day of theevery week let each one of you layput byaside himand in storesave, as he may prosper, that no collections be made when I come. |
| 16:3 |
And when I arrive, whomsoeverwhomever yeyou shallmay approve, themI willshall I send them with letters to carry your bountygift untoto Jerusalem:; |
| 16:4 |
and if it beis meetfitting for me to go also, they shallwill go with me. |
| 16:5 |
But I willshall come untoto you, whenafter I shallgo have passed through Macedonia;, for I passam going through Macedonia; |
| 16:6 |
butand withperhaps youI itshall maystay bewith that I shall abideyou, or even spend the winter, that yeyou may setsend me forward on my journeyway whithersoeverwherever I may go. |
| 16:7 |
For I do not wish to see you now byjust thein waypassing; for I hope to tarryremain awith whileyou withfor yousome time, if the Lord permitpermits. |
| 16:8 |
But I willshall tarryremain atin Ephesus until Pentecost; |
| 16:9 |
for a greatwide door andfor effectualeffective isservice has opened untoto me, and there are many adversaries. |
| 16:10 |
Now if Timothy comecomes, see that he beis with you without fearcause to be afraid; for he workethis doing the Lords work of the Lord, as I also do:am. |
| 16:11 |
letLet no manone therefore despise him. But setsend him forward on his journeyway in peace, so that he may come untoto me:; for I expect him with the brethren. |
| 16:12 |
But asconcerning touching Apollos theour brother, I besoughtencouraged him muchgreatly to come untoto you with the brethren:; and it was not at all his willdesire to come now;, but he will come when he shallhas have opportunity. |
| 16:13 |
WatchBe yeon the alert, stand fastfirm in the faith, quitact you like men, be strong. |
| 16:14 |
Let all that yeyou do be done in love. |
| 16:15 |
Now I beseechurge you, brethren yeyou know the househousehold of Stephanas, that itthey iswere the first fruits of Achaia, and that they have setdevoted themselves tofor ministerministry untoto the saints, |
| 16:16 |
that yeyou also be in subjection untoto such, men and to everyeveryone onewho thathelps helpeth in the work and laborethlabors. |
| 16:17 |
And I rejoice atover the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus:; forbecause thatthey whichhave supplied what was lacking on your part they supplied. |
| 16:18 |
For they have refreshed my spirit and yours:. Therefore acknowledge yesuch therefore them that are suchmen. |
| 16:19 |
The churches of Asia salutegreet you. Aquila and Prisca salutegreet you muchheartily in the Lord, with the church that is in their house. |
| 16:20 |
All the brethren salutegreet you. SaluteGreet one another with a holy kiss. |
| 16:21 |
The salutationgreeting ofis mein Paulmy with mine own hand Paul. |
| 16:22 |
If anyanyone mandoes loveth not love the Lord, let him be anathemaaccursed. Maranatha. |
| 16:23 |
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you. |
